Xm5 definitely has good sound, very detailed sound. I am able to tell the difference between Xm5 vs Linkbuds. The main question is whether you think that difference worth the extra £100/$100. I own a pair of IE900 and other DACs, considering this is wireless, WF-1000 XM5 has an acceptable quality sound compared to wired headphones buds. This is pure physics that it would be unfair to compare wireless vs wired headset. ANC is Good. There could be some sound come through, but I can accept the level. What I like is it has good ANC but doesn’t create ear pressure. God, I can’t use AirPod Max more than 2 minutes the ANC from other brands hurt my ears & makes me feel headache. WF-1000 XM5 ANC feels more natural. Transparency. I know people comparing it with Apple AirPods Pro, but it is good enough for me personally. The Transparency mode or ANC mode can behave strange when you only wear one at a time, it’s very situational, not a big issue for me. Connection is fast. WF-1000 XM5 Bluetooth paring is so fast it has paired to my phone before I even have the chance to put it in my ear. Comparing to LinkbudS, LinkbudS will take much longer (15 seconds more) time to pair. Sony Headphone App: functionally great, UI/UX is (what you expect from a Japanese company, I wish they can learn it from the Playstation team)…… I am not using the app that often and it does the job when you need it. Finally, make sure you keep some patient with the firmware update it could cake very long 30-40 min, expecting update comes 2-3 times a year (thus this is not a big deal). I highly recommend you delay the firmware update just to see if the firmware has any issues in the long term before commit to it, because you cannot rollback! Minor annoyance I find: 1. Xm5 is difficult to get the earbuds out. A fine detail if anyone notices, Sony app during onboarding shows the way to get out. You need to turn the buds (e.g. right earbud turn clockwise direction, left earbud turn anti-clock direction) and pull it out, not directly try to pull it out from the case. 2. New hybrid foam tip is actually very comfortable once the foam is shaping against your ear after a few days. Sony has some interesting thought on this, I think from pure sound engineering and comfort perspective it works well. But keep them clean is a nightmare, I switched to a set of silicone tips, seal is fine using silicone tips. Make sure you try out seal test in the app after swapping to silicone. I ended up using S for right ear and SS for left ear to get both comfort and good seal. The earbud nozzle does not have filter protector without the eartip, when replacing eartip, make sure you choose the eartip that comes with dust mesh or buy a 4.3mm mesh (sticker) separately to protect the nozzle. 3. Touch control is too sensitive. I turned right side touch control off. 4. Not suitable for gym, very good for quiet and enjoyable music session. Get a cheap $15 earphone for gym is a better idea. 13 people found this helpful

I bought these earbuds to replace the Sennheiser Momentum 3, which I’ve been using for 2 years. I was satisfied with Sennheiser overall, but common connection issues and the huge case made me sad. Sony has better sound about 10% and cool app. That’s it. The case is tiny compared to Sennheiser, but it feels and looks like it’s not a Sony flagship but the cheapest Xiaomi. The case battery capacity is poor. The plugs itself doesn’t fit ideally, I had to adjust them every 3 minutes in a gym. I use M-size plug, but for these I had to use L – the biggest one. Noise cancelation is very weird. It works perfectly if you fit the plugs in the ears solidly and listen to music. But if you are speaking ANC corrupts surrounding noise like you are in some tube or barrel, which is annoying. 3 people found this helpful

Bought these with a healthy dose of skepticism as far too often I’m disappointed in products that receive high accolades from the main review websites. But I was very happy to find that the WF 1000xm5 really are fantastic. They are very comfortable to wear, sit very comfortably in your ear for long sessions. They look very discrete and tasteful, the only negative I have for the design is as they are so tiny they are a little awkward to get out of the case, but I quickly learnt an easy way to remove them. Reassuring really as the magnets offer a very secure fit in the case. The sound quality is terrific. A decently wide soundstage with good placement of all elements. Everything sounds crystal clear with no unwanted distortion. The bass is tight, impactful and has a satisfying thump. The mids are excellent, vocals from both sexes sound terrific as do guitars and keyboards/synthesisers. Treble is well extended with little to no sibilance. Wonderful sound all round basically. The noise cancelling is the best I’ve encountered in earbuds so far, mutes everything around you very well and as I discovered today they handle really strong winds very well. The ANC has very little effect on sound quality, and absolutely no background noise. The app experience is very well implemented, with a huge array of features. Everything always works and the auto EQ adjustment is the only one I’ve ever used and liked. Offered me a better sound than me messing round tweaking for 30+ minutes with a manual EQ. All the presets are good and change the sound perceptibly. Still not tried the 360 audio features. But if my other Sony over ears are anything to go by, it’ll be great. They are the best TWS earbuds I’ve owned or tried(via friends), the LDAC in highest bitrate sounds superb – best Bluetooth codec yet for me by far. In case you haven’t noticed I love these, I only have one criticism of the product and it’s the included ear tips, they work but the security of the fit is quite poor, always have to adjust them when putting them in and frequently while in use. Swapped to Comply foams already, for me it’s the only negative thing about the WF1000xm5 – hated the included tips – change them please Sony! 16 people found this helpful

I purchased this phone, to replace a Samsung A51, which I do found too big to comfortably handle. It’s amazing how few good quality smaller phones, are available at the moment. Anyway, after an Gadget Tree price match, I got this for £299. Set up was very easy; all data and apps were copied from the Samsung within a few minutes. The phone was fairly easy to customise to your own preferences, although simple things like changing the text alert could be made easier, as I found that was hidden under a few menu layers. Once you work it out though, it’s easy. The fingerprint sensor is spot on, and works 99% of the time, compared with the Samsung hit rate of around 70%. Bluetooth works seamlessly, and pairing is so simple. It’s also a no frills phone, so doesn’t have facial recognition, which isn’t necessary for me, and there is no way to expand the memory. The camera is amazing, and photos can be tweaked endlessly. Very clear display, and the battery is very powerful; I would say it lasts a day and a half under normal usage. I’ve probably not even scratched the surface of what can be done, but it is super fast, and I’m more than happy with it. ##BIG DRAWBACK## Please beware of an Android 12 update/beta, as it totally bricked the phone. Decline the installation, unless your phone meets certain criteria, that are available to see on the web. The phone was totally paralyzed after the update, so I got onto Gadget Tree and Google to resolve the issue, neither if whom were if any use. I unbricked the phone by allowing the battery to drain, then placing it on charge, and initiating a factory reset, which worked. This was a minor pain as I had to reinstall a few apps, but I also used a backup from the Samsung, which saved me some time also. So if in doubt, leave Android 11 installed, although Android 12 now works, and us very good. I hope this review helps you. 13 people found this helpful

I bought this as a replacement for the WF-1000XM4 which destroyed themselves due to a well know bad firmware update. I also purchased the latest flagship models from bose, sennheiser and jabra too, of all of those great earbuds I reached for the sony WF-1000XM5 more often than any other, the reasons, battery life is good enough, sound quality is probably about as good as bluetooth earbuds get, noise cancelling and passthrough both work well enough, they are small in the ears and pocket and I find the foam tips really comfortable and secure. The jabra and bose got returned quite quickly, the former had an unpleasantly hissy sound signature and the bose connection to android devices/app was unreliable. I do have a dirty little secret though, I also kept the sennheiser momentum true wireless 4, I couldn’t resist, they also sound great, have good battery, good noise cancelling, very secure in the ears, but I find them slighly more uncomfortable than the sony, but I do like the slightly different sound signature, its not better than the sony its just tonally slightly different. On multiple android devices the sony and sennheiser apps work well. The sony is slightly more reliable than sennheiser on the terribly unreliable bluetooth of a macbook pro. The only critism I have of this sony unit is that its pretty hard to put the buds in the ears or adjust the fit without activating the touch sensors, they are slippery to hold too having a glossy finish. 14 people found this helpful
