Fabunmi Best lens for the A7 range Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 3 February 2018 Size Name: 2/25 Colour Name: Black Verified Purchase I used this to film a performance in dark arena recently and was blown away. This coupled with the A7Sii in 4K full frame mode makes the lens roughly 16mm and in APS-C mode a 25mm. As for quality, this…alongside the Sigma 30mm 1.4 are the 2 sharpest lenses in my bag. And the autofocus for video is snappy and quiet. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 October 2020 Size Name: 2/40 Colour Name: black This is a good lens, but not a great one – especially at the RRP – with rebates the case is a bit clearer and it becomes a better proposition. Like the other Batis lenses, it has a distinctive look, it’s light and well built but the body is prone to scratches and the rubber focus ring is a dust magnet. It’s on the large size for the modest focal length and aperture. Image quality is very good, with excellent sharpness, contrast and colour. Bokeh quality is so so, thanks to the lack of curved aperture blades. The close focus is excellent and I’ve found it very useful for studio tabletop work. It’s not the last word in background separation, but as a do it all prime, it’s very good – just not 1k+ good to my mind, you are paying for the name in this case. When released the lens was much maligned for a couple of issues which have largely been fixed by firmware updates. Read m

I bought the Sony RX10 IV after reading many reviews. I wanted an all-round camera to replace my aging Pentax SLR and lenses which I could no longer be bothered to carry around. Opening the box my first impressions were of a quality product. The finish is incredibly good. Putting the memory card and battery into the camera also gave a feeling of quality as the covers seem much more solid than my old Pentax. The camera has so many settings and controls that it does take a little time to get your head around. However, once you get to use the camera it is a quality experience. Pictures and Video are very good, and you can control and download images to your smartphone. The camera focuses extremely quickly. The screen and viewfinder are brilliant. The zoom range is fantastic, and the lens seems sharp at all focal lengths. My only criticism would be the battery life, the screen only being vertically tiltable and of course the cost. This camera is a brilliant allrounder and extremely versatile. Great for travel and people would want a bit more from a camera without having to carry lots of gear. 10 people found this helpful

I bought this recently, and am very impressed with the whole quality of the camera. My usual camera that I work with is a Canon 1DX MkII with a selection of L Series fast lenses. I haven’t been doing as much professional work recently so decided to sell my usual Canon gear, o make way for an R3 eventually, so decided on a bridge camera, at least until I decide to buy some new pro-spec stuff. Must say at this point, for a Canon fan to buy Sony, felt like I’d just sold my soul(!), but have to concede, the RX10iv is a truly amazing camera, and far better quality than I expected to find with a 1 inch sensor, especially when I’m used to full frame. Although I will go for an R3 Canon soon, I’ll definitely keep this marvel of a camera, and use it whenever I don’t want to take full SLR gear around. I love it’s solid feel, and it’s weatherproofing, focusing is lightning fast (superbly so), as well as the very fast shutter, and the sharp results I’m getting, even close to the 600mm end of the lens – no surprise from a Zeiss lens I suppose, but very impressive all the same. I wish it was slightly wider at the other end, but that would be asking too much perhaps. This is very expensive for a bridge camera, but in my view, worth every penny. If your budget avails you of the choice to buy this camera, honestly – do it, it’s amazing, and you won’t be disappointed. Would I recommend – wholeheartedly, yes. Sony has a new fan! 19 people found this helpful

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 6 October 2024 Style Name: Single Verified Purchase Well, it does and it doesn’t. Although the resulting picture clearly shows an increase in focal length a photo taken without it and cropped to the same size shows far more detail and is less blurred. And to say the price difference between nearly £500 and £0 for just cropping and getting a superior result does not justify the price. The theory behind it is good but not in practice. Apologies Sony but it’s just what I’ve experienced.

My main reason for buying a new camera in the first instance was that my older camera, a Lumix LX100, was lacking in both the pixel count and zoom range. This started to become an issue on my travels. After a lot of research, and with my initial thoughts focusing on a mirrorless, I decided to buy the Sony RX10iv. Thus far I am very happy with the results though I have yet to test every detail of the camera. The attached photos were all taken on this camera to highlight some of it’s characteristics. Although with it’s 1″ sensor it does tend to struggle with low-light conditions, it is not impossible to get fairly decent results. It is not the perfect camera, but it is the closest I could find for my needs. The zoom range – without having to carry and change extra lenses – is probably its strongest feature and certainly the thing that finally helped me part with my cash. I won’t go into all the technical detail as a) I don’t fully understand the whole of the cameras functions as yet and b) there is a plethora of sites on the internet and videos on YouTube that give all that information. The camera isn’t cheap, especially when you take into account the fact that it is a bridge camera with a small sensor. But don’t let that put you off, the build quality, and quality of images, is fantastic. The brilliant focusing system and zoom range alone makes it that little bit more special when compared to its competitors. The downsides: there is no in-built ND filtering system so you’ll need to buy these if desired. There is no time-lapse program. The RAW files do not automatically open in Lightroom 5. However, there is a Sony app that will convert the photos to TIFF format which you can then import into the editing program. All-in-all a very good camera and certainly one I’ll be taking on all my travels and using for all my future video work. 17 people found this helpful
