Got this for 150 on their Ebay site when they ran a promotion. This SSD is blazing fast. I use it as my primary OS drive, software drive, and gaming drive. I have been using the drive in my gaming rig see specs below for aobut 6 months now, and has been running flawlessly. I am currently using about 60 of the storage space on the drive, which is 465GB total after NTFS formatting. Ran ASSD benchmarking to test the speeds. Advertised Max Sequential Read Up to 540 MBps Max Sequential Write Up to 520 MBps ASSD Results Sequential Read Up to 515 MBps Sequential Write Up to 496 MBps Slower speeds than advertised, but could be due to amount of storage space I am using on the drive. Would highly recommend this drive to anyone. If you are thinking about getting one, and find it on sale, get it now. I bought this for to replace a WD 1.5TB black HDD used to hold games. The reason behind moving my game storage from a HDD to an SSD was to decrease game load times. The 2nd reason was 1TB SSDs are finally hitting a good price point. This review is late in coming I have owned this SSD for 2 years now. I ran CrysalDiskMark to perform the testing. Do to the speed of the drive I was not able to test its potential real data transfer speed. as a note to the speed tests I am not sure why the newer 850 is slower than my older one Samsung 850 EVO 1TB Read 403 MBs, Write 411 MBs 2017 model firmware EMT03B6Q For Comparison Samsung 860 Evo 256GB Read 542 MBs, Write 509 MBs new drive in another computer Samsung 850 Pro 512GB Read 553 MBs, Write 502 MBs 2014 model firmware EXM04B6Q Samsung 850 Evo 1TB Read 555 MBs, Write 508 MBs 2014 Model firmware EMT02B6Q WD Black NVMe 500GB Read 3414 MBs, Write 2543 MBs WD Red 3TB WDEFRX Read 135 MBs, Write 128 MBs Even though the newer drive is slow I am still happy with its performance. It is very close to the max speed of a sata III 6gbps interface. I have the 2 Evos for my game libraries and the Pro for my OS. The EVO series in has a shorter expected life than the Pro series fewer writes which is why I am using it for my game library. I expect to only install and not uninstall games regularly, while the OS drives tend to do more writes. I am also using a standard HDD the WD Red 3tb for my mass storage like pictures, docs, and music.

Its not like its a huge drive, or the data loss or even the wasted time just to try to RMA this thing. If your a fan boy of Samsung I hope it works out for you. Warranty or RMA is probably not going to happen. Im currently using several of what I thought where lesser brands of SSDs but they have all outlasted the Samsung. I personally will be using the old favorite for now on. Maybe they can veri8fy my purchase from this review

Any SSD will be a speed improvement over a hard drive. This however is top shelf and worth its premium 1 It is faster than the vast majority of its competition. While too technical to go into here, there are far more than the 3 or 5 specifications usually provided in advertisements that reveal actual speed in use. This is zoom zoom fast 2 Samsung provides a generous warranty. 3 Easy to use stateoftheart software Makes cloning your OS drive a breeze. Testing, diagnosing and configuring your drive AND the OS are included. An awesome caching program is included as well. 4 Its ONE GIG In the future that wont be much, but for now its great Room for more than one Operating System, any frequently accessed program browser, utility, game, Paging file… will benefit. If youre sly you know what goes on in the background. Point it to your SSD and crank it up

This is a great product that performs as expected. Its fast and light. But if youre planning on replacing your laptop drive, you need to be comfortable with removing hardware and configuring software, plus youll need an external case USB connection to use the bundled cloning software. They do not provide an option to create an image file of your existing drive to some other source flash drive, external HD. etc. that can then be restored to the new SSD. It ONLY allows you to Clone the data directly from the original drive to the Samsung SSD where both drives have to be connected to the computer at the SAME TIME. If this wasnt so cumbersome, Id have given it 5 stars

In these times one expects electronics to move at the speed of light. Just recently I decided to upgrade our systems because we were spending too much time waiting for boot up. Its odd that we would have to go do something else while we waited for this boot up to complete. We would do something that would take a few minutes rather than sit like a couple of bumps. Until we kept finding ourselves in this time warp we didnt appreciate how long a few minutes could be…nor how aggravating. I decided to upgrade even further and bought Samsung Evo and Pro SSDs. My computer now boots up in about 7 seconds and Im on line in about 15. Thats incredible. 15 seconds and Im in my mailbox. I expect that this time will improve also since Windows 10 seems to get a little quicker as it finds its way around a new system. It seems to streamline itself. With the old hard drive as a back up and the reliability of a brand name such as Samsung it gives a peace of mind that all will not be lost Theres so much good to say for SSDs and their life spans are increasing with new advances. Theyve made me a believer I use Macrium Reflect to clone since I dont find the Magician interface user friendly. Macrium is simple and tothepoint so that I can set up the process in about 30 secondsand 1020 minutes later have a whole new system on steroids Now, how will I spend these extra minutes …..

This is a great little SSD, on the expensive side compared to others, but I have never had any issues. Runs fast, appealing design, and no problems of any sort. I would say its worth the money and Id definitely consider buying again if in the market for a new one. If youre replacing a HDD with a SSD then you MUST set windows directly or via Magician that you have SSD and to change the appropriate settings. The difference in GB from 1024 based and 1000 based sizing will say youve got roughly 900 gig . All drives do this now and most of them including Samsung use that difference for sparing, wear leveling, reliability. This is most important in SSDs so I dont complain so much. Samsung Magician also request that you Over Provision by letting it use up to 10 of the last partition on your drive. This over provisioning is used for fast writes that it later coalesces into your partitions where it belongs. This helps as a flash write requires a readinsertwrite cycle unless its known a flash block is empty. So over provisioning uses free space known empty as skipreaddowrite blocks so is much faster. That said Im told 8.1 may do this already and I havent found anything concise. Then you can use that space on that last partition so its not lost . Folks mostly say dont let any partition get more than 75 full and there should be enough free space for these SSD write optimizations to work.. Samsung Magicians performance benchmark is inconsistent. After a few days it started saying my sequential was 110th of what it should be. Per the web I used ATTO benchmark and it showed the drive was running as recommended. Many people say you must start from scratch on a HDDSSD but thats not true. You just need to make the system changes. Samsung Data Migration will purport to make all these but it wouldnt let me migrate from an mostly empty 2TB hdd in a new laptop to the 1GB 850 EVO. Few tools will shrink partitions not even Acronis So you can do well just copying partitions over hddSSD but you need to tweak the settings. Magicians optimize OS will do that for you. Or from disk properties, advanced, Optimize make sure all your partitions are set to optomize, and Id say once per day. Enjoy these smoking fast drives

I bought the Samsung SSD to be used as a test to determine if SSDs are now suitable for use in small business computers that store customer information. I have been a tech for over 40 years, which means that over 99 of everything I see is defective customers do not call until something has gone wrong, and the memories of the early LCD displays and memory chips still cause me to be very cautious and to not trust any new product. I ran the tests on an MSI AM1m MB with an AMD 5350 2ghz APU and 16gb of ram. Boot Speed On a Windows 8.1 PC, boot speed slowed from the original 12 seconds postbios to the SSD speed of 24 seconds postbios, likely caused by the need to load SSD software. Shutdown times remained reasonably similar. As a comparison, the SSD Windows 8.1 boot time is similar to Windows XP SP3 loading on the same hardware with a SATA2 HDD. Boot and shutdown speeds are not important, but they do give an idea of what to expect. Program Speed Prefetch is disabled in the SSD software, so MS office programs load much slower about 1 to 3 seconds as compared to about half a second on a SATA3 HDD, and as compared to almost instant on an XP SATA2 HDD. Nonprefetched programs like browsers and Libre office are much faster around 9 seconds on the SSD as compared to 20 seconds or more on a HDD. Generally, I did not have any wow moments for the SSDs speed, but the SSD does make the PC noticeably faster over all. Security The primary concern is that sensitive customer data must be permanently destroyed when a HDDSSD fails, and the only way to destroy the data is by destroying the HDDSSD itself. Regardless of warranty, if a SSD fails the first minute after installation, the SSD must be destroyed. Destroying a 50 1tb HDD is no big deal, but destroying a brand new 180 500g SDD is uncomfortable. My thoughts The SSD is good for personal computers, and I am tempted to install another Samsung SSD on one of my other PCs. At present, until the prices become competitive to HDDs, I will still not recommend relatively expensive SSDs for my thrifty business customers who must store sensitive customer information.

This is a rather expensive upgrade and 2TB is a huge amount of space, but it is so worth it. As long as you know how to open up a laptop to get at the hard drive, it is easy to install. Using the recovery disc set I made and starting with a bare drive, it too around a third to a half the time that a reinstallation of an operating system would take Yes, I timed it. The speed boost on initial startup is phenomenal, although loading up with AntiVirus and other periferal drivers will slow things down, its a lot faster than a mechanical drive. Samsungs monitoring enhancement software is well worth the expense of their drive over competitors. I am so happy that I got this at the price I did and only eBay could have helped me find it. Incredible is not good enough for this drive.

500GB does not equal 500GB according to your computer. Allow me to explain All storage devices are measured in bytes, but its not the same byte that your OS recognizes computers can only recognize a base2 numbering system, whereas we use a base10 system. The closest value to 1000 that can be reached in base2 is 1024 or 210, hence 1,024 bytes 1 kilobyte 1,048,576 bytes 210210 or 220bytes 1 Megabyte 1,073,741,824 bytes 2103 or 230 bytes 1 Gigabyte What we consider 500 GB is actually 51011 bytes, but a computer can only see it as 465.66 GB 51011230 thanks to this numbering system So technically its not the drive manufacturers who are ripping you off, its a 17th Century German mathematician and his obsession with Chinese divination thats causing you to lose precious drive capacity. Its also the industry fault for standardizing human bytes over computer bytes Samsung is one of the only manufacturers to design and build all of the components inside their SSDs, giving them a significant cost and development advantage as all aspects of their SSDs can be controlled in house. Only Toshiba and Intel have this topdown control over their SSD production, although they have used components from outside their company for lowerend consumer drives. The 850 EVO is a product of Samsungs industry advantage, being the first consumer SSD that combined the affordable TLC flash structure with vertical NAND or VNAND density. In laymans term, Samsung can not only make cheaper flash memory, but they can cram more capacity in each package of flash memory, reducing the number or flash packages needed for certain capacities and further driving down costs. The 850 EVO comes in both 2TB and 4TB versions thanks to the benefits of vertical scaling in flash capacity increasing both the capacity of each flash die and the density of dies per package. They use the same number of flash packages as the 1TB 850 EVO, but are able to double or quadruple capacity thanks to this increase in number of dies and die capacity per package. This may soon affect prices of future 850 EVOs under 2TB. Right now, the 500GB Samsung 850 EVO uses 4 flash packages, with 8 dies per package, and a total capacity of 128 Gigabit or 16 Gigabyte per die. Thats 32 dies of 16 Gigabyte each, or 512GB of total capacity. Approximately 12GB is left out for overprovisioning, so thats 500GB of usable storage or 465GiB of actual storage. If Samsung chooses to trickle down these denser NAND packets, the next iteration of the 500GB 850 EVO will only have 2 flash packages with 16 dies per package and 16 GB per die based on the 2TB EVO or even a single flash package with 16 dies and 32GB per die based on the 4TB EVO. Whether that will lead to a significant price drop is yet to be seen, since the denser die packages in the 2TB and 4TB EVOs are between 4 to 6 times the cost of the older EVOs packages.

I bought this Samsung 850 EVO 250GB 2.5 SATA III Internal Solid State Drive to add to my existing Intel SSDSA2CW 160G3ATA which stores all my programs including Windows, and is running out of space. After installing it and the software that came with it, my computer could not see it and not only that, all my external drives became invisible. I thought the drive was defective and requested that it be replaced. However, the new one behaved the same way. My boyfriend and I poured over the internet trying to find out how to solve the problem but to no available. We tried all different settings from the BIOS, but nothing helped. It was decided that I should pack up the drive and return it because it is just not compatible with my motherboard. The next day, we decided to try one last thing, which is migration from my existing SSD drive to this one and installing only the migration part of the software. Well, bingo, it worked. Now I am using the Intel SSD for my scratch disk when working with Photoshop. My boyfriend also told me that my motherboard will only go as fast as a SATA II, so buying a III doesnt really benefit more.

Just wow. If you want to improve your performance on your desktop or your laptop by at LEAST 800 not joking then buy one of these babies. Watch a video or two online to figure out how to get your OS and stuff on it and swapped out. Your good to go. Now watch your computer go from fully off and shut down, hit the power button and in 58 seconds your fully booted up to the OS desktop and ready for anything, no load times. Games load so ridiculously fast. Everything is mind blowing. Every computer needs a SSD. You dont have to get a large SSD. Buy a 128gb or 256gb and keep your old hard drive and use the SSD to boot the OS off of and save your files on the regular hard drive. Hope I helped out

The Bad Included data migration cd failed when moving data from existing Win 7 OS disk to new ssd via sata cables. Tried all options several BSOD but end result FAIL. Was able to finally install a drive image via ACRONIS with errors. Running CHKDSK corrected FAT errors and finally was up to speed. After thoughts Buy the SATA USB cable that should be included with every drive and use the included software. I didnt have the cable nor quick access to one. I had no warning that a proprietary adapter would be required to migrate OS to the new disk. My other option would have been to do a fresh install of the OS rather than to clone my old drive. I expected the new SSD to conform to industry standards for data migration. The Good My new drive rocks and will be worth the aggravation suffered in the long run. I love the speed as is over 10x faster than my SATA2 SSD was I think the real gem here is the 5 year warranty. I think this drive is the way to go….just use the usbsata method to clone your drive Thanks Samsung for a great product I love all aspects of the Drive Magician software.

It works amazingly well. There are some tutorials showing how to use the migration software. I bought the 1 Tb drive so I could just pick up all of my programs, data, OS etc and move it onto a better, faster drive. I was not disappointed. Step one. Back up you old HDD. Step two run the migration software it took me 4 hours to move 800G. Step three power down and unplug the old HDD. Step four reboot and run with the new drive. There might be some tweaking involved. The software that comes with this will help you with the OS settings. Also, I initially has issues launching games, but after a bit of homework I discovered that the nForce SATA controllers were frankly terrible for SSDs which is not shocking since they werent around when the drivers were written. Diablo 3 failed to load completely. I swapped in the standard Microsoft drivers for the nForce ones drill though system info to the device manager to the driver selection. click update then tell it you want to select the driver to use and pick the Standard controller driver… kick nForce to the curb and problem solved. Im not getting all the speed I would with a SATA III board. And I know there will likely be issues with the garbage function down the road so it might start slowing in a year or two. By then I plan on upgrading my system to a sweet i5 rig. Till then, this works great. I recommend it to anyone.

I personally love my work computers. I have a 24 Sony Vaio Desktop and 2 matching Sony Vaio Laptops that are all probably 6 or 7 years old. They all have Intel i5 processors. Well as new design software came out and more programs were added over the years, my computers began to move slower and slower. It got to a point I would cut on a computer and walk away because I knew it was going to be at least a 1 to 2 minute process. After doing a lot of research, it seemed that the EVO 850 was going to be a great option for me. I purchased 500gb SSDs for my laptops, a 1000gb SSD for my desktop, and maxed all my computers memory to 8gb or RAM. Now everything starts working in 20 seconds or less Even better I was able to copy and install everything myself from the instructions and YouTube videos. You will need to purchase an USB to SATA III cable 9 to copy your original hard drive but still in all this was the best hardware for the money.

Bought this drive online for a good price on sale. Arrived in two days through expidited post. I didnt use the provided CD to transfer my data because it requires a special SSD to USB adapter that I dont have. In my case I wanted to do a fresh install anyways so this worked out. I copied all my files to an external USB drive, removed the old disk drive, put this SSD drive in and did a clean OS install before copying my files back. Immediately noticed a huge performance improvement and after putting all my data and apps back on the laptop including onaccess virus scanning the performance is still orders of magnitude better than with the old conventional hard drive. I would highly recommend this product. I installed it in an older Lenovo T420 laptop and it has given the machine new life.

Samsung SSD have always been my favorite. They are reliable and fast compare to other companys. This particular one isnt their fastest SSD, but it does more than quick enough for my daily use. I do not have a bench mark result or anything, but in real time personal use Ive never had a problem with speed. It boots up really fast from sleep and from off. Great value for the price. Also to note, when I purchased this the prices were lot higher. Now SSDs have came a long way on price so definitely worth upgrade to PRO. This reviews reflects from my purchase couple years ago to how its still holding up.

Pros Really easy to install and boot For a nontechnical person like me I installed this within 15 minutes minus the time for the new OS to install on this. My HP laptop running Windows 10 now boots quicker and runs multiple programs without the freezing. Would recommend anyone to buy one because I think its good value for moneyCons Just a nit picky one the instruction manual doesnt cover anything as far as I could see on how to set up the drive if you want to boot this from a fresh install. I found some content online to help.

I see some complaints about the software that comes with it, i didnt use the data migration software as i already use Acronis True Image to keep my system backed up. I just connected this 850 EVO in place of my failing drive and used the Acronis Bootable Recovery that i have on a flash drive to boot up and recover from the last good image a couple days prior as my most recent backup was corrupted due to the failing drive, no biggie its just the OS drive no personal data. After i was booted up i did install the Samsung Magician software just to check optimization and settings as well as to check it had the latest firmware which it did ship with the latest version and ran some performance tests, pretty much right on the money with its specs. I upgraded from another SSD that was starting to have some issues which i discovered after Acronis started complaining that there was unreadable sectors during a backup. Obviously the source of my random crashes and problems i have been having for a few days prior to that notice. This 850 EVO is FAST, it made a noticeable difference even upgrading from a previous generation of SSDs. Highly recommend it

Everything is superfast after installing the SSD. Its like my computer got a new life. Windows server 2016 used to take about 80 secs before whereas now its reduced to 25secs. Visual studio, Adobe suits and MS suit open in a jiffy. I am absolutely loving it. Most importantly data migration is so simple with Samsungs migration tool. Apart from that havent done any major transfers yet but can tell that the performance has improved significantly. Another thing is its completely silent. Definitely recommend this for anyone.

This was an upgrade from a SanDisk Ultra Plus 256.The capacity is much better for me. 500GB goes a lot further than the 256GB I had before. The speed is somewhat faster for large file transfers, and mine actually delivers 505MBsec read and 465MBsec write with large files 20MB. IOPS benchmark about 40 higher than I had before.Real world I cant tell any speed difference between this drive and my old SanDisk, although occasionally my boot times climb into the 20 second range running a 2.23.2GHz i73632QM on HM76 chipset, 16GB DDR31600 99924, and 1TB secondary HDD, Win7x64. Normally boot time is about 15sec It was 14.1sec every time with the previous SSD.Power consumption in my laptop has also gone up considerably. With the previous SSD my battery life was a consistent 9h30m, now it is about 5h. Both run times with brightness at max, surfing the internet only. Standby power consumption is supposed to be very low, but when have you known Windows to leave the boot drive alone long enough for that to be effectiveOverall, though, considering the capacity benefits I would definitely recommend this SSD as a great upgrade item. And if you are upgrading from a hard drive you could expect your battery life to increase significantly. Note that the Design rating only got 4 stars due to the significant power increase over my previous SSD. Some increase was expected, but not this much.

Ill explain my Con items, which are all related. My notebook computers support only ONE hard drive, unless you use A an adapterconverter for USB or B sacrifice the DVD drive and install a hard drive on that interface. Eventually, I was able to use a snailmail delivered USB adapter. None are stocked in local stores in my city. But I was surprised and disappointed that I was unable to use the system transfer program within a desktop computer, also running Windows 7. The desktop has 8 SATA ports, and I plugged in both the new SSD and the hard disk from the laptop. I was ready to do a system transfer from disk G into SSD hard drive H… But Samsungs program insisted that the source drive ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY had to be hard drive C. This is a really stupid limitation, and probably fixable in about 20 lines of code. Grrrr.

I have a 17 MacBook Pro mid2009. Its definitely showed its age but after a 4GB to 8GB RAM upgrade and a change from 5400 RPM 500GB drive to this EVO 850 500GB SSD, it just grew a cape and started flying. I ran into a few kinks though. First, I tried to mirror my existing hard drive onto the SSD using a USB dock, but kept it failing. I then installed the drive in my Mac and used a bootable USB key to boot into OSX and restore the drive that way and no luck either. Finally I used Time Machine to restore my latest backup onto the SSD and success. A few hours of troubleshooting led to incredible performance gains

The tabs for attaching the charger to the watch broke after 3 weeks of use. The snap on plastic tabs are very thin and have to flex to clip on to the watch. In a very short time they wear, crack, and break off. There are numerous reports of this problem on various online forums. The design is just not durable when having to use the charger every other day. A spring loaded button or other mechanical means of releasing the catch is needed. That being said, the compactness of the charger and the built in backup battery makes for a good combination. Easy to carry and unobtrusive in pocket or purse until needed. If the bottom had the same concave curve as the bottom of the watch itself, you could even continue to wear the watch with the charger attached. Its still possible with the convex bottom on the charger but its not comfortable and makes the size truly gargantuan.Unfortunately, there is no alternative charger available so we are forced to used this fundamentally flawed product. This product would rate 5 starts with fairly minor design tweaks that would not significantly affect the cost. Samsung needs to either fix the design or offer an alternative desktop charger for daily use and keep this product reserved for occasional use when away from home. Eventual breaking due to flawed design might be tolerable with sporadic usage, but it is intolerable in a product required to be used almost daily to keep your expensive smartwatch operating.

A great upgrade for any PC or laptop. Windows loads in a couple seconds on my rig. Everything is faster, Games. Browsers, etc. My PC even shuts down faster. The Samsung software is the best in the biz. Use Samsung data migration to copy your old drive to the new one. It works the first time, every, time. And its super easy to use. Use Samsung Magician to over provision OP your drive 10 93gbs. Bummer right But well worth doing. The drive will last longer and will be much faster. If your using rapid mode, create a restore point, once in a while. Hope this helped someone.

I purchased the VNAND SSD 850EVO for my laptop. I decided to do this because I purchased my laptop brand new less than 6 months ago and the conventional hard drive failed. The laptop manufacturer replaced my failed hard drive with the same one that failed. I didnt want this to happen again so after a little research I decided to purchase the Samsung 850EVO. I am not very tech savy or mechanically inclined but I had no problem cloning my system to the new drive and removing the old HD and installing the SSD. The Samsung Magician software made it so easy. It took me around 30 minutes and everything went smoothly. Since I installed the SSD my laptop is so much faster, quieter, and doesnt get nearly as warm as it used to. I researched a lot of SSDs and this one was the best value, not to mention Samsung has a great reputation and they back it with a long warranty. Do yourself and your computer a favor and upgrade your old hard drive to a Samsung SSD. You will be so glad you did

I only installed this SSD on April 1,2016. My first impressions are great. I used Samsungs Data Migration software to clone my 750gb laptop HDD to my new Samsung 850 EVO. The cloning went without a hitch. It only took about 25 minutes to complete the clone as I only had 72GB of data to copy. Once the cloning was complete I shut off my laptop and replaced my HDD for this SSD, I turned on my computer and in just a few seconds I was booted back up into Windows 10. I tested my boot up speed from the time I pressed the power button till the time I logged in and opened Firefox. On my laptop with the HDD installed the test took 1min 13sec. With my SSD it to 30 Seconds. Thats more than half the speed cut in half. The shut down went from 45 seconds to just 14 seconds. The read and write speeds increased as expected as they went from about 130MBps to 520MBps. I noticed a huge increase in everyday performance as I ran a third party software that brings back the Windows Experience Index to Windows 10. The HDD score went from 5.5 to 8.15 from 1 being the lowest and 9.9 being the highest. Opening applications such as Word opens in like 2 seconds where before it would take about 5 or so seconds. Other applications open faster. I also did a copy test where I copied a folder with 10.7GB worth of various files and sizes. On my HDD it took 5 minutes to copy from my documents to my pictures folder, on the SSD it took 30 seconds. I think this right here shows the huge increase in performance you get with installing a SSD in your computer. If you want to make you old or even new computer faster upgrade to this SSD. This was my first time ever upgrading anything in a computer let a lone even opening up a computer, but upgrading from a HDD to an SSD was easy. Ive seen videos where people had 57 year old computers that were very slow go to being reasonably fast and an increase in performance. All I can say is if you are looking for an increase in performance and overall speed upgrade to an SSD. This SSD is great so far and hope it lasts for a while. I can say SSDs are more expensive than HDD but I think it is worth the price. This is an Excellent SSD. I cant stop using my computer as it now opens up things faster as my computer is only 2 years old and was no slow poke but an SSD made it even faster.

So far, I am very satisfied with my new Samsung SSD and would buy another one in an instant. I run Windows 10 Pro and have the OS and all my programs on the primary SSD drive and all my documents, spreadsheets, videos, photos, and other files on a secondary 1TB HDD. I replaced the OEM Liteon 256GB SSD mSATA card with the Samsung 500GB SSD mSATA card because I had reached 68 capacity on the OEM capacity, I needed to install a new large CAD program, and the highlyrated Samsung drive was on sale. On the other hand . . . the New Egg deal included a 60 credit for a 60 Ubisoft game. Although I couldnt possibly have cared less about the game, the gift ended up costing me money. Both order and invoice listed 2 ordersshipments . . . Order 1 included the drive and other purchases for my business and Order 2 was the Online Game Code for the game. Unfortunately, they showed the 60 credit on the Order 1 order and its invoice and then billed me 60 for the game, which is clearly not a deductible business expense. Basically, the free game ended up costing me a 22 income tax deduction. The problem would have been avoided if the invoice had listed the credit in the appropriate place. I know this probably doesnt matter to most people but it is why they get a 3 rating instead of a 5 and why I wont be making any more business purchased at New Egg if the price includes any freebies.

This drive is special because it has a feature called SED self encrypting drive it is ALWAYS encrypting your data with encryption keys that it stores in its ROM. If you use software to delete the keys the info is useless so no need to do a government style drive wipe that reduces SSDs lifespans. The thing is that SED feature wasnt made for that. It was made so that if your laptop or even desktop got in the wrong hands the data would be useless. There is no mention of HOW to setup the drive to do this. Utilizing this feature means storing the encryption keys outside the drive and send the drive the key every time you start the computer. NO KEY NO DATA Well very few consumer boards some asrock can set an SED HD password in bios. The bios holds the keys and when you type a boot password it transmits the keys to your SSD unlocking the data. You probably dont have that board so Option 2 If you buy a version of windows or upgrade to one that has bitlocker bitlocker has a feature that can speak to the SED SSD. You must install windows using UEFI. There are many advantages to installing in UEFI mode so I would recommend you do this no matter what If installed using UEFI use a guide to bitlocker to encrypt your drive. Use a USB thumb drive to store your keys and back them up somewhere else and put them in a safe or something. If you do things correctly bitlocker WILL NOT inform you that it has to take time to encrypt the data in your drive. If bitlocker tells you this you are doing software encryption which is not as secure and it is slower. Google bitlocker SED for more info

I have just installed the Samsung EVO 850 SSD 500gb on an older Acer with an I5 chip and Windows 10. I used the supplied Data Migration software, accepting the offer to upgrade to version 3.0. Other users have had problems with Windows 10 and data migration, but the 3.0 version worked almost without a hitch. The only problem I had was it appeared to be hanging after setting all the file exclusions and initiating the clone. After nearly an hour of apparent inaction, I called the Samsung help line for advice, and almost immediately the cloning sprang to life and completed without a hitch Samsung magic or what. I guess I should have been more patient. The Data Migration software would only let me transfer up to 416GB although 465GB are available after the clone finished and I rebooted 14 secs. It does advise a back up be taken before starting the process make sure you do it and it indicated that transferred files would be deleted from the old disk but this does not appear to be true. Once I installed the new drive in the Laptop, it rebooted quickly and I havent found any problems. Anything disk related is now way faster than even the Seagate Hybrid drive I had been using, it is like having a new laptop Time will tell if reliability is a problem.

Ive used 840 Evo SSDs in the past, and had no problems at all the migration software worked perfectly and quickly. However, this time around the Navigator software wouldnt recognize the drive and kept prompting me to connect a Samsung SSD. Because Id run this before, I thought the drive might be bad when neither my laptop nor my desktop could see it. The USB would connect, but no drive appeared in File Manager, etc. Because NewEgg has no tech support, I had to return the drive to find out. When the second drive did the same, I started looking for solutions. Eventually I found a post saying that the current release of Navigator simply does not recognize Windows 10. Not sure if thats correct, but it went on to tell how to use DISKPART to initialize the drive. After that, Windows could see the drive but not Navigator. So I went to Best Buy and picked up their standard Apricorn cloning software and cable, which cloned my HDD onto the SDD in about 20 minutes. Swapped out the drives and I was in business. So, great drive, awful software. Its truly amazing that a huge corporation like Samsung can produce a state of the art SSD, but somehow cant manage a simple piece of functional cloning software especially when there are many such available for download all over the interwebs. Just inexcusable Really, shame on you, Samsung.

I installed application like. wmvware workstation and gns3 in my SSD 850 EVO 2.5 SATA III 500GB. Also I stored my VMs templates inside this ssd. VMware workstaions and GNS3 installed super fast comparing with my previous hdd seagate barracuda 1tb..During the cloned process the disk utilization percentage avg was no more than 10. During the Guests OS installation, the utilization disk percentage was between 56. While Im working with 2 VMs simultaneously it keeps between 510 utilization.Right now i have this samsung ssd hosting the os, application and my VMs. My previous seagate barracuda 1tb is storing my program installation files.Im willing to buy the 1TB version of this SSD later this year waiting for a lower price.

My old Toshiba Satellite A205S5825 boot time is now 4x faster than with my old internal system hard drive. Instead of the CPU waiting for the hard drive, this SSD is now waiting for the CPU. Very easy to clone the operating system, programs personal data files to this SSD from my hard drive, I merely downloaded installed the free SSD Data Migration software from the Samsung site, hooked up the 5 USBtoSATA cable between the laptop and the SSD, executed the Samsung program, and cloned the 100gb of OS, installed programs, personal files from my old intenal hard drive to the SSD with 3 clicks of my mouse. 1 hour and 30 minutes later about 18mbsec transfer rate due to my 5500rpm hard drive, my new 250gb was ready to swap out with my old laptop system drive. 10 minutes to physically swap the drives and power on, and I was up and running without any issues. My old internal hard drive is now retired as a justincase backup in the event my laptop is stolen or destroyed. WIth the best warranty in the industry 5years, I am not to worried on the longevity of this 850 EVO SSD, but I like to be prepared for any contingency. The 850 EVO SSD is currently the fastest and highest rated SSD in its class, and cost is less than 20 more than the basic bargain basement brands.Additionally, what Im not going to miss is hearing that everpresent muted ticking of the heads in the old hard drive and the spinupdown of that hard drive motor depleting the battery at an alarming rate. With this SSD, I also realize over 20 more battery time between recharges If you want to stretch the lifespan of an older reliable laptop I hate having to reinstall and replace some evermoreexpensive software in a laptop upgrade to fit the new operating system, when your older laptop is doing just fine, but a bit slow, or optimizing your new laptop, a Samsung 850 EVO drive is an easy viagra upgrade for less than 100 I bought my 250gb for less than 70 with free shipping When sizing your SSD, I do, recommend at least doubling the capacity of the old hard drive you are replacing, as you should still have plenty of storage when you reclone the SSD from the internal drive of your next laptop upgrade, when you finally do make the switch.

This is my first SSD and I tried to migrate from my 1TB Seagate COS HHD. Im running a desktop PC with an Intel iCore 7, 8Gb RAM, SATA 3 and with AHCI enabled as well as TRIM. Performance of the SSD is OK but the Samsung Magician Migration software was a bust. Tried it twice with no positive results I was disappointed. I then tried AOMEI Backupper and ended up with an unhappy COS SSD, it just did not seem to run properly. I finally tried a restored from an existing, current, Acronis True Image COS drive backup. All went well and upon installing the drive into the PC it was as if the existing Seagate HDD had never left. It now runs stable and it is just faster. Since that Acronis restore and installing the SSD into my desktop PC I have waited 1014 days to write this and I have noticed no issues. I believe that in using the restore file it helps to negate any fragmentation of files that may occur using migration as well as any issues in going from a 1TB HHD to a 500Gb SSD I may be wrong but this seems to make sense to me. So if you are having any issues similar to mine try Acronis, I was shocked that it could be so far superior to Samsung Magician and AOEMI Backupper for what I wanted to do. Acronis did what it was supposed to and that aint bad. I do not believe, other than boot, that desktops users see the profound speed improvements that laptop users experience. Most desktops run 7200 RPM HHDs whereas laptops run 5400 RPM HDDs, so there is an inherent slower speed from laptop HDDs. Therefore a desktop users initial HHD speeds are far superior to laptops HDD speed so the sense of speed improvement will be far more noticeable for a laptop user. Do appprograms and such load faster on the desktop PC, yes, but not enormously so. Also, rendering videos and Photoshop images etc. will always show better performance using an SSD.

Easily one of the most reliable and costeffective SSDs available. I use a 250gb SSD for booting and it takes seconds to get up and running. I initially built my computer with an HDD for storage, but have since bought another 500GB SSD and a 1TB SSD for playing graphics heavy games and MMOs. With the cost of SSDs now, I dont think Id bother with HDD again.

Fast even on my dated SATA 2 PC. Used Samsung included software to migrate. Only difficulty migrating were my mistakes the first try, second time went without a hitch. That was with OEM no disk Windows 7 32bit pro, I was worried about the OEM accepting the drive swap, but no problems. Also no issues using Magician. Which is weird, my computer accepting both Samsung programs, usually it gags at everything. RAPID rated twice as fast on quick Magician and other benchmarks, but didnt test too critically. Seems faster works fine when running programs. I maxxed out the RAM and am waiting on a new GPU Zotac GTX750Ti, one of few that fits its only a Dell OptiPlex 760 mini tower with a SATA 2 Mboard but the SSD, RAMonly pc6400 and GPU should lighten the load a lot. Much less straining and lugging along so far. Very happy with how its working, would recommend to friends for speeding up PCs.

I upgraded from a Mushkin 240GB SSD to this behemoth because I literally ran out of room. I know I couldve bought another 240 or any other size in that matter to add to my PC, but I wanted to do a reformat anyways. I got this on sale when it was 379 The speed of this compared to my old SSD is still quite a big difference, and that shocks me because I thought my 240 was fast. Everything starts up within seconds using Windows 7 and load times for my games are nonexistent. I bought this because my Origin and Steam has so many games, but I could only have a couple installed at a time. I would have to finish a game and then uninstall it to reinstall another game. Im not looking to install all 200 games I have accrued over the years, but I would like more than just WoW, BF4, Borderland Pre Sequel, and Dragon Age Inquisition installed. Many friends play other games as well, but I have to constantly uninstall 1 to install a different game every other week. This 1TB drive has been amazing and I have had ZERO issues with this. Sadly, I didnt use the program that came with this, so I cant rate it

Ive purchased 3 of these over the last six months and have not been disappointed. On my first purchase I was replacing a dying OCZ REVO PCIE SSD absolutely the fastest drive Ive ever seen, so this SATA SSD is noticeably somewhat slower, but still better than a platter. And half the price of the REVO. The first one I purchased came with the Magician software requiring the SSD to be linked to the PC via a USB to SATA cable only or it would not see it I could have spent the 8 bucks to get this cable but when would I ever use it again Never. I have ESATA ports for that. But the REVO had too many bad sectors to even get Acronis to clone it, so I did a fresh OS install instead. The other two came with a newer version of Magician that allowed me to plug the SSD into an internal SATA port like normal and cloned from platter to it. Perfect My advice Newegg is a great site and customer service here is fantastic. The free shipping sucks. Its DHL business days no weekends shipping and when it finally arrives SOMEWHERE, ANYWHERE in your state they pass it off to the USPS. Thats right, the good old snail mail service delivers it just as quickly as they do everything else. Best thing to do is shop for it here on Newegg, read the reviews and compare products. Then go to they censor the A word here but its the mega online retailer named after the South American river and buy it. This drive is there now for 15 bucks less and even their free UPS shipping is half the time of DHL.

I have purchased about 100 Samsung EVO SSD. 128500GB. Ive also bought tons of other SSD drives. These Samsung EVO are by far, the best drives on the market for the money. check Toms hardware reviews for full specs, reliability testing, speeds, and comparison. its a no brainer. If you have the correct mother board controller, skill, and extra money, then go ahead and get the M.2 pro series. it is a wee bit faster, but way more expensive and difficult to install, clone, etc. The Samsung magician software is great and really speeds up the drive. the Samsung cloning software is a waste of time and I cant believe they even put it on the disk. really youll have to get Easeus backup for free and it can clone all your drive partitions fine. you also must buy your own ssd cables and 2.5 to 3.5 adapters for desktop installation. but if you didnt know that already before you bought this drive, then you should be paying a professional to install it anyway.

Before I go getting all gushy with Samsung because Im not really… the only thing I own from Samsung are the SSD drives multiple and I have had one fail about a year and a half into use… through normal use as a person that uses my computer 5 days a week. I still trust the drives, I think the technology behind the drives is about the same across the board. Where the Samsung delivers is the software that you use to transfer the old hard drive onto this new one. Its slow, but probably has to be… but it is perfect. I have replaced about 6 drives with Samsung SSD drives and not one of them gave me any problem, in fact, when switching putting the new drive in, every machine fires up and works as if I hadnt done a thing and then when you look at the space you now have… its almost a miracle. SSD drives are generally on the smaller size at the moment… and if they have to carry the operating system, its almost rediculous how little space is left… Boot time is good, access is quick… but only by todays standards… I believe that all drives are going to a SSD and the magnetic drives are soon to be gone except in specialty applications. But thats not what youre reading this for. The great thing about the Samsung is the software that transfers your old boot drive to your new boot drive seamlessly. Ive tried a few other drives trying to same money and ended up using them as a nonboot drive. Hope this helps, I highly recommend the Samsung SSD series. You may need a transfer cable, when I did my computer I was able to steal the cable from the CD drive but for my Notebook, I had to buy a transfer cable which was cheap on Ebay about 8 if I remember right its a sata cable and if you have Bluetooth 3.0, make sure to get a 3.0 cable for the quickest transfer possible.

I received this SSD after purchasing a new gaming laptop. I wanted to boot games as fast as possible. My laptop has two drive bays so I installed it first. I used the migration tool on the disc provided by Samsung. After a successful migration I would boot from the SSD. It was very glitchy, slow load times, programs crash or dont work at all. I formatted and attempted a migration a number of times with the same tool and easUS tool. Problems still persist. I spoke with Samsung about the issue and they told me to do a secure format and provided me with an iso to make a bootable disc to do so. After that the problems still existed. I spoke to Samsung again, and was told that a migration of an OS will NEVER be perfect and that i needed to do a clean install of the OS. Computers dont come with discs anymore so I found a tool developed by Microsoft to create an installation disc from a flash drive. Finally after all the trouble, a clean install has worked. After doing all this Ive come to the conclusion that shavings mere seconds off your boot and load times arent justified after all the tedious work. Not to mention Samsung provides a tool and then claims that it doesnt work as well as a fresh install. I wouldve been more satisfied knowing at the time of purchase that Id need a fresh OS installation. In the end I dont think its worth it. However, it does work, and does it very well. The experience was just annoying.

Comes with a data transfer dvd to assist with transfering data from previous hd to ssd drive. I didnt personally use it. I pulled out the old, plugged in the new, booted from a windows installation cd with proper bios settings. Must boot with uefi setting. Drive was recognized and windows installed well. Upgraded to win 10 anniversary from win 8.1 I also had Win 10 installed on old hd drive. It took 50 secs to boot to login screen. With ssd drive its 12 secs. Launching apps is crazy fast. Huge installs like MS Office or photoshop shaved 80 off install time once files buffered into ram. All ssd drive accesses are real fast so theres no system lag time. Still expensive in comparison to hds but prices bound to drop. An excellent purchase.

This SSD Solid State Drive is an amazing piece of hardware and I recommend it in the fullest. If you are building a new PC this is a must have in the modern world as the benefits of SSD vs. HDD Hard Disk Drive are exponential by comparison. To put it in a nutshell, HDDs were obsoleted by the technology of an SSD and the difference is in how they store and access data. end of nutshell A HDD contains a circular plate the Hard Disk that serves as the medium for your data to be stored. The data is read by a little header much like a CD player and it is read one file at a time until all files has been found or whatever program you are tying to run no multitasking. The hard disk has many different locations to store the data in and the locations have finite space available to them. So if you fill the capacity of one area with a program it will have to store the rest of the program in a different area of the disk. This can become convoluted with time. The hard disk has to spin in order for the header to read the data. When your data is spread so thin that the header has to hit multiple locations in your hard disk to compile the data for one program you can begin to notice the issue with HDDs. When these things happen a lot you begin to have noticeable hits to your system performance. And this is why disk defragmenting is an essential part of PC maintenance when using an HDD. Defragmenting your disk would literally find files that belonged together and try and order them as closely and neatly as possible and this would help system performance. With SSDs these things are no longer the standard fare. The exact workings of an SSD I have yet to fully research but I can tell you the fundamental differences. A SSD has no moving parts. It has no disks to spin. Unlike a HDD it can pull data from all locations of the SSD at the same time yes multitasking to gather the files for your program. An SSD DOES NOT CARE how close your files are to each other or how neat the data is dispersed. This also means disk defragmenting is a thing of the past for a SSD and could potentially mess up your SSD so DO NOT defragment these. Because of this the data transfer to and from a SSD is blazingly fast and will actually bottleneck overload with information older SATA interfaces. Do not worry though as the HDD you might be replacing with an SSD never came close to bottlenecking the SATA and you WILL get noticeable perform gains. Your computer will literally do everything faster with an SSD and is easily the best upgrade for an aging andslow PC and a literal must have for any new build. SSDs are in a laptop form factor as well so one literally fits all PCs, desktops and laptops. There is a possibility of a PC case not supporting SSD mounting if it is sufficiently old. Price differences in SSDs come from the capacity of the drive and the ability of the data storage cells to write and rewrite data before failing. The Samsung 850 EVO is of higher quality in this regard and that is the reason for the price premium when compared to the drives of competing manufacturers with similar or greater storage capacity. I happily recommend this product at its standard price and insist upon it when it goes on sale.

I also bought a 20 PCIe adapter to go with this drive. I have a 64 bit Windows 7 machine thats about 5 years old, I use it for Windows Android development. I have a LOT of programs utilities installed. I debated the benefits of doing a fresh install, but had a deadline on a project I was working on that I couldnt afford to give up a day or two of working on if I was going to meet a customers expectations. I thought using Microsofts own Windows 7 drive image utility, would be the best solution. Unfortunately after making a successful backup of the spinning drive, the utility refused to restore to the SSD. Thankfully the Samsung software did the transfer with no problem, and a single reboot with the SSD as the boot device was successful. System responsiveness is noticeably improved. Good system upgrade, at a very reasonable price.

Like Night and Day I own a HP P6516F with Window 7, that I bought back in 2010. Over the years I have updated my graphics card, power supply and maxed out my ram. My hard drive started getting a little slow here about Dec 2017, pushing my luck there. After reading all these great reviews about this EVO, I though Id try it myself, before dumping a couple grand for another decent PC, besides I dont like Windows 10. What a Difference. Load time cut 23s, what use to take 3 12 minutes to get to my desk top, now takes just under a minute. I can only imagine what the 950 Pro can do in these newer M.2 units, but that will be down the road a bit, when I can afford a decent gaming PC. If you buy this drive make sure you remember to purchase the Sata cables also. Make sure you use the new versions of the software from Samsungs site. If you using this in a desktop computer you DO NOT need the USB to SATA adapter as it is PICTURED in the directions and like people have blogged all over the internet. The recommended SATA III cable is a 6.0Gbs. That cable is backwards compatible for SATA II and SATA. Check your mother board specifications to know which type of SATA port you have and purchase the cable that is for that port because not all motherboards are created equal or just get the SATA III and cover all your bases. Even in the 3.0Gs port w the respective 3.0Gs cable, this drive benchmarked at the manufacturers specifications as strange as that sounds. Looking online you will be told what other people think rather then what is truly recommended by the manufacturer. Which, by the way, is not marked on their product anywhere or on Samsungs site. ALSO, make sure to use the software supplied by the manufacture called Samsung Magician From their site not their included CD. Contrary to what people blog and think, it does increase the longevity of your drive by creating an extra partition and also gives you the RAPID mode feature that is unbelievably effective. Also, the software helps you set the drive for optimization and over provisioning. Important little tools that make this drive easier to use and maintain. I hope this helps and the drive, like I said, performs better then the manufacturers specifications in my case but just like CPUs and GPUs they do not all perform the same but they do at least perform to the minimum specifications provided by the manufacturer. I am very happy with this purchase other then the CD software issues and the CABLE not being included.

4k hours, powered onoff hundreds of times, still tests to 100 health, and booated my computers performance a solid 30 Price new is pretty absurd. But seeing as how the performance isnt compromised after extensive use, there are good deals to be had in the used market. Samsung 850 Evo is literally my gold standard for 2.5 solid state drives. When researching other drives, i use UserBenchmark to see how close they get to the 850 Evo not to see if they EXCEED it they never do. That being said, there are better values drives that perform 95 as well, for less than half the price new. Or, a few dollars cheaper new, than the Samsung is used. And there are faster options M.2, PCIe, mSATA or whatever. A lot of laptops have these slots. Never know until you look. But 2.5 is pretty much guaranteed compatible, if your picky, and want speed quality, look no further. If youre still using a traditional spinning HDD, your computer is performing at about half its potential

Purchased one of these from Amazon approximately two years ago. December 21, 2015. Samsung 850EVO pn MZ7LN500 Model MZ75E500 sn on demand from any Samsung rep. I used it for storing Steam games, which take up a lot of room. Worked perfectly until very recently, when it just died.I tried Samsung Magician, I tried Formatting with Windows 7, I tried everything I could think of or find online. Nada. Upon reboot, Windows would see the drive and list it in file Explorer for approximately a minute, and I could even see the files inside then it would crash. Switched SATA cables, tried different controllers, different BIOS settings, everything and anything. No matter what I tried, no joy.I am well within the warranty period, so I figured Id just return to Amazon, but no, they said I have to contact Samsung, and that they would get involved if necessary. So far I havent had the time to actually speak with a Samsung rep I work crazy hours during the week, and they dont make it easy by letting you do any exchangerepair via online reporting.I purchased two new drives of the same exact model, hoping this one was a fluke, and so far they both work fine. That, and a new Samsung kitchen set prompted me to sign up and register everything with Samsung, which is how I got to this review.I am really hoping someone there at Samsung will read this review and contact me to replace my dead drive. I will keep this review updated if the site allows future editing to let everyone know if they replaced my dead drive, how easy or difficult it was, and how the two new drives are working out.

Installation went perfectly Dell xps 8700 windows 7 prof 64 bit. Data migration from the old hdd to the ssd went perfectly. After migration, pc booted quickly and ran great just as expected. That evening I attempted a Casper backup from the ssd to the hdd. Shortly into the backup the ssd locked up and became unreadable. Both the ssd and the hdd were trashed. Luckily I had a third hdd backup After this incident, SSD was no longer recognized by several windows PCs. The drive was dead I returned it to adorama, which acted as the newegg seller. I then ordered another new ssd from newegg. When it comes next week Ill try again. I had no problems with the xps 8700 before this incident. I have an older desktop at work that has been especially creaky since Microsoft shut off caching in Intel chips back in February when the cachememory exploit was revealed. Unfortunately, my machine is not due for replacement for another few upgrade cycles, and the 10min startup wait was getting to me every day when I came in not to mention the general sluggishness proclivity to hang the rest of the day. Spoke w one of our IT guys he allowed how if I was willing to supply it, theyd do the HD swap for the original drive to a SSD which I knew from prior experience w my old laptop was a surefire speed boost for day2day usage Did not know, however, that the recent development of 3D chips makes the drive reliability of SSD drives so much greater, and is the only way to go, moving forward. So the IT guy definitely put me on the right track there when he insisted on vetting any prospective buy for me so I wouldnt get punked Thanks Eric, you rock

I am a professional aerospace engineer for hardware and software. as such, my work challenges my development hardware often up to and beyond the published specs. these evo ssds of which i currently have 10 in constant use have provided me with the ability to compile, store, manipulate data in truly an outstanding and highly reliable fashion for a large, complex, and interrelated crossplatform project that involves all the latest windows, mac, and linux servers and their companion workstations. from machine language to cc to c to java, to sql, to html5 and some proprietary systems i have enjoyed a development lab that is virtually quiet and certainly cooler than when my equipment used rotational storage devices. i have taken the time to compare the speed between my older development and the current setups. i have recompiled and compared the overall completion times and find that in every my specific case my overall time to completion is simply faster even on some of my older, much slower processors. i heartily recommend these units to even the most casual user. i have a batch of the even faster EVO 512s coming for an extension of the current development and am expecting to be even more pleased with these Samsung products. not sure this is appropriate but i have tested other manufacturers products and have chosen Samsung for the final production deliveries.

Currently the number 1 rated recommended SSD. Easy to install, format and clone old drive to, or to use a new addition. People like the faster boot time, but thats peanuts you boot once a day, you open apps all day long, and thats where you will notice and appreciate the speed of an SSD. This is my 3rd EVO 850 500GB 2 laptops and now in my desk top minitower. Ive been watching the price for 2 years, and this 158 is the lowest its been. Price had been artificially high due to businesses buying Samsung for its quality, creating high demand. Samsung makes their own parts, controllers, etc, so its all designed to work together, vs piecemealing a drive with other peoples parts.

this is an outstanding product im on my 3rd of 4th now. one is from sandisk. these are remarkably fast especially in an older computer. if anything, it will likely negatively affect computer sales because these devices make just that much of a difference in speed. i have seen their effect with 5 7 year old thinkpads and one 6 yo hp desktop. boot time went from 45 55 secs to 13 for most users, thats the longest they will have to wait for disk activity unless playing a game. download speeds are more restricted by the network connection than any hdd or ssd and web activity even less so. the major bene of an ssd is its durability no moving parts.

Replaced the TOSHIBA 1TB mechanical hard drive in my laptop. Still good, just might format it and put it in my PS4. I was lucky that the SATA controller on my laptop Acer Aspire V5591G had ACHI already enabled, so there was no hassle of making any registry edits or changing anything through the BIOS. All I had to do was plug in the SSD using the USB to SATA cable, use the Samsung Data Migration software to clone which went through without a hitch, and swap in the drive in my laptop, three relatively small tasks. Cloning took about 20 minutes. Boot up was extremely fast. Cold boot to desktop screen in roughly 1015 seconds and an additional 10 seconds to finish up loading system services and the stuff on the taskbar. Performance is astounding. Visual Studio 2015 and the Microsoft Office apps open up in the blink of an eye and games are quick to load up. And I have yet to turn on RAPID mode. Hopefully wont have any issues with this drive, though the 5 year warranty is reassuring. Will update if anything bad happens.

The drive is a tremendous performance enhancement for an older laptop. The migration from the old drive to the new drive does take a considerable amount of time. Thankfully it only needs to be done once. For older 3 years old the SSD drive is highly recommended to increase not only the boot time, but the overall speed of the machine. As machines get older, the original drive also gets older and as time goes by, the older drive gets closer to its breaking point. My suggestion is to NOT wait until it gets to this point. Be proactive on the older drives. In the end you appreciate getting the faster drive and hopefully it wont fail for the remaining life of the machine

Think I got a bit caught out on this. I know Samsung is a great name and SSD is exciting rejuvenation for any PC, after I found the EVO drive only lasts half the life of the PRO version I felt I had much overpaid on the going rate for these drives when they are only rated to last five years. The PRO version of the same thing is ten years but not twice the price. Looking st it the other way round the EVO is a LOT more than half the price of the PRO version. I guess theres nothing wrong with it, no. Its not that. Its just five years disappears fast and my money goes with it. Be careful how you use SSD. Their lifetime is a bit like mileage on a car, except that when they get to the end of that stated lifetime 5 years for the SAMSUNG EVO SSD your data is no longer guaranteed to remain. Unlike a car or a traditional hard disk, which you can continue to use even beyond the manufacturer warranty, the warranty on the EVO SSD is just troubling to read that when it reaches that lifetime it does not accept any more data writing. This is like saying your car will no longer go into gear after the warranty has expired but you can still start the engine, use the heater, radio and music system but you will need a new car if you want to go anywhere. Technically its still a car but for all practical purposes ceases to be one. If you buy a drive like the EVO my recommendation is NOT to use it for constantly writing fresh data like backups for example. Normal use is OK. Just set yourself a reminder in your phone to let you know when the timeup is getting near I do believe SAMSUNG should make this limitation on the EVO SSD clear to consumers so they can make an informed choice. Im not convinced that consumers are aware of this limitation and therefore I do not believe they buy this completely informed of the lifetime limitation in the EVO SSD.. I photographed the back of the box so you can read whats printed and notice theres no mention of the limited life or what happens when that time is reached. All you get is the positive stuff including fiveyear warranty.

We have just replaced the hard disc drives on our several laptops and one desktop with solid state drives. Very easy to do Get free software to clone your current drive onto the SSD, then remove the old drive in your computer and replace it with the cloned solid state drive. Google how to replace the drive on your specific computer and just follow the easy directions. And wow What a difference in speed You can use free software to measure the old speed before replacing it, then measure the new speed afterwards. Samsung is good quality and speed. I was lucky to get a pair of these on sale but I easily couldve went with another brand if I had to pay full retail price. These 860 EVOs are performance tuned very well for everyday use and have a really good caching setup so youll hardly ever see these things slow down to any significant degree you wont need the more expensive PRO models unless youre doing extremely heavy video editing and the like. The lifetime durability ratings on the flash chips inside the 860 EVOs have been effectively doubled vs the previous generation devices, as well 150 TBW vs the 850s 75 TBW. However, performance increases over previous generation SSDs are minimal, so upgrading from other SSDs you have now and are happy with wouldnt be worth it. Even among its current gen peers, theres very little in the way of overall performance differences so if you can find other brands on sale and cheaper, you might want to consider those first. In summary DO buy the EVO 860 if you can find them on sale at a discount, at the same price or better than competing models DO buy if youre looking to upgrade from a slow HDD or an oldcheapsmaller or otherwise very poorlyperforming SSD DONT bother if youre looking to upgrade from an SSD that still performs well and meets your needs or if youre seeing competing brands on sale for significantly less AND if youre into industrial scale content creation video production, heavy photo editing, etc, odds are, youre not even going to be looking at Samsung EVOs or, perhaps, any kind of SATA connected devices in the first place

The Samsung EVO 850 is capable of providing a huge increase in performance providing your computer meets certain requirements. The computer motherboard must have available a highspeed interface connection known as SATA3. SATA3 has a maximum data transfer rate of 600 megabytes persecond, barely more than the rated 525 megabytes persecond speed of the EVO 850. SATA1 or SATA2 are slower at transferring data than the EVO 850 and therefore will be incapable of providing the maximum performance the drive can deliver. If your computer is more than 6 years old, it may not have a SATA3 port. My 4yearold DELL XPS 8500 has only 1 SATA3 port, the rest are SATA2. Your computer should also have a relatively fast processor and dual channel memory. So you see, the performance gain might be disappointing in an old, lowpowered computer. In my computer, the performance gain was enormous. However, I took the unusual step of performing a clean install of my operating system Windows 8.1 directly to the EVO 850. I did this to ensure that nothing that could slow my system down was transferred from the old hard drive the EVO 850 was replacing. This step requires an enormous amount of work, however. It took me more than 8 hours to install Windows 8.1, 360 updates, and the 30 applications I use. One big advantage to this approach was that I was able to keep all my user files more than 600 gigabytes worth on the old mechanical hard drive. This was important to me as the EVO 850 has only 500 gigabytes of total storage. I then backed up all my user files to an inexpensive 50 USB external hard drive. I now have speed and a complete data backup for security for minimal cost. To give you an idea just how fast the EVO 850 is, boot times for the computer went from a little over 2 minutes to just 30 seconds until the desktop became visible. Much more importantly, the operating system loaded all my programs, completed the many background tasks my applications require, and was ready to get to work in only 15 SECONDS from the time the desktop appeared. With the old, mechanical hard drive, it took 15 MINUTES for the computer to be ready to work. Any application I launch loads in just a few seconds, more that twice as fast as the mechanical hard drive. I am now much more productive with my time spent at the computer. I also have peace of mind knowing that the EVO 850 is far less likely to fail than the mechanical hard drive. I highly recommend the EVO 850.

I originally put this in a caddy in my optical bay, I was sad cuz it was only like 50 of advertised speeds but still lightning fast. Then I noticed it was on sata 2, apparently almost all sata connections for optical bays is sata 2. So I swapped my old hdd into the caddy and put the ssd in the original hard drive spot and boom advertised speeds. Also the Samsung cloning software is awesome, it really takes a lot of the nerd work out so that even a non tech person could do this easily. The magican software is pretty nice too, it lets u easily optimize your settings for max performance or a few other things. Samsung does 90 of the work for you all you got to do is format the drive, use samsung cloning, and after the clone is finished select the new drive as priority boot drive in your bios. That was literally it. No swapping drive letters or anything, samsung took care of that too. Its so easy my mom could probably do it. Have I mentioned how fast it is yet

I purchased a brand new HP Envy 17t laptop elsewhere, which was slow despite having a 4core i7 processor and 16GB of memory. The problem was a laggy hard drive. Booting up and opening applications was taking way too long. Yesterday I replaced the hard drive with this one and now its lightning fast. The login screen is up about 5 seconds after pressing the power button. Transferring files around is also much much quicker. The software that comes with this drive makes duplicating your current hard drive even if it is bigger very easy. It worked flawlessly. You will, however, need some way of attaching the new hard drive to your computer without removing the old one. I used an 2.5 USB hard drive enclosure like this httpwww.staples.comSabrentSBTEKU2525USBIDEExternalHardDriveEnclosureproductIM1GU0025. Once you replace your old hard drive, you can then insert it into this include and use it as external storage.

I am currently using a SATA II mobo so this drive is only half as fast as it could be on a SATA III drive and I can only imagine at this point what that would be like. My old hard drive is almost full and about 4.5 years old. I was playing world of warcraft and was getting fed up with objectspeople phasing into my view distance. Most people think this is lag but it is actually the objects loading off your hard drive slowly after the your pc knows thye object should be there. Anyways this drive completely fixed that phasing issue and makes the game feel like I am playing on a brand new PC. I am blown away at the performance change this made to the game. I started warcraft on my PC and my wifes PC at the same time. I was in the game with all objects loaded and she had not even started the load bar yet. This was my first experience with a SSD and more of a personal experiment to see if they are worth the money. I can assure you the pc I am building will have nothing but SSDs. I cannot go back, I will not go back.

Intel 4790K processor, 32 GB G.Skills 1600 memory, Corsair CX750m PSU, EVGA 740 GPU, Gigabyte Z97XGaming 5 motherboard and Windows 7 Pro x64 . A simple speed illustration, she can have her desktop showing, click restart and less than 30 seconds her desktop is back and her computer is ready to go. And thats with approximately 85 processes running in the background. That wont set any world records but thats pretty good. My wife is a lite gamer. Mainly, online and a few low GPU stressing PC games. This system rocks. Been up and running for about a month as I type this. Not 1 BSOD and no nagging system freezes. I contribute time tested quality brand name components and the Samsung SSD as an integral part of the perfection puzzle. Bottom line…For a boot drive, you cant go wrong with a Samsung SSD. I have one as the boot drive for my computer too. I wouldnt have nothing else.

If your motherboard does not have any Sata III ports the performance increase provided by the SSD will not be as great, but your computer will still be considerably faster than your old hard drive. If you plan on migrating your current operating system to an SSD you will need a USB 3 dongle that includes a SATA connection for the drive. These are available from Newegg, but are not included with the drive. I have utilized Casper software to migrate the operating system from a hard drive to an SSD. I have also loaded a clean version of Windows 7 to an SSD. Both times the process was painless and the SSD sure does take a lot less time to load all of the post SP1 Windows 7 updates. I havent tried one of these drives in a laptop, but the performance increase should be significant since there are a lot of laptops out there utilizing 5400 rpm hard drives. In addition, the battery should last longer since the SSD uses less electricity than a spinning platter hard drive.

The G4 unit we received had a leathered back that turned heads wherever we went. You have to give it to LG for creating a look thats truly unique and feels premium. The leathered back also means that the G4 offers a secure grip, and contrary to our initial fears, sweat wasnt really a problem more than with any other smartphone even in the Delhi heat. However, we do fear the leather finish will not age as gracefully as its plastic counterpart, and ripped seams will be an eyesore in a few months.

It works, is fast, installation was a breeze and Ive had no worries about the drives lifespan. The Samsung Magician software works, though some parts of the software could benefit from additional explanation without going looking it up outside of the software. That in no way diminishes my overall experience with the drive, and can be argued is not an issue with the SSD itself in any case. All in all, would buy again, or the latest version of it from Samsung.

Good product, but I bought this product for the rapid feature with the ram. I have always enjoyed most of my electronics from Samsung. This is a good SSD, but if you buy it to enable rapid mode, be aware it would not let me enable it in Windows 10. All of the required things to have to enable rapid mode are detected, except I get the error, Unable to determine operating system. Its not checked green like the other requirements. I have installed two separate versions of the software to enable this to no avail. I just purchased it, and havent gotten to tech support yet. Samsung has great tech support, so I am sure they will fix this issue for me. I will update my ratings after they have been notified, and a resolution determined. Im going thru the warranty process now, but a product that dies in less than a year is not a good choice in my opinion.I spent much more effort than I expected to install this device in my Dell 6900 XPS desktop machine. Highlights Purchased via Amazon. There is a large fold out diagram based set of instructions. Step 2 of those instructions says to insert the Onestep Install Navigator CDDVD but this was not provided in the packaging. There is no such software on the Samsung website. The diagram also shows a SATA to USB connector to be used apparently for setup and data migration. That and the cables, screws and mounting hardware are not included in the packaging. There are tons of privacy intrusions in the installation software from Samsung rather scary, actually. I discovered that I could Not Accept the privacy policy and the software still installed… I hope that means it is not sending my private data to affiliates and servers in South Korea as the policy stated. My Goal I have a 2TB hard drive, and wanted a 500 Gb drive to boot and run key programs from. So my aim is to turn the 850 EVO drive into the boot drive and still store massive amounts of data on my hard drive. My machine uses Windows 10. Installation and Set Up While installation is fairly simply two cables, you have to do some hunting to find and download the listed software. It is not clear why three separate software components are required one of which cannot be found. I have no USB to SATA connector, but did have an extra SATA cable and available SATA power connection I was able to cable the device up. I powered on my machine and the Samsung Magician software recognized the SSD disk Windows not yet, however. I then used the Samsung Data Migration utility. It took 50 minutes to transfer 310 Gb of data to the drive. I rebooted Windows 10, but got an error message that flashed by more quickly than I could read.I could not see the new drive in Windows. I discovered from internet searches that the Migration Utility clones the contents of the Hard Drive to the SSD meaning they both are now identical boot volumes. This creates a conflict and the new disk remains offline due to signature collision. The fix requires geeky hacking to make it work. I wish there was a nice crisp article on Samsungs site about this method of using the drive as I suspect its pretty common. But I still havent found a decently detailed and uptodate article.I fault the installation instructions for not providing any alternative installation method other than replace. I want the SSD to speed up my system, but Im not throwing away the 2TB hard drive thats already there. SUGGESTIONS Open up the computer you want to put this device in and look to see how the drives are installed… then you will know what mounting hardware and cables you may need. There are many different drive arrangements in desktop and laptop computers. One of my desktop machines, for example has a caddy that mounts around a 3.5 drive and snugs it into a drive slot without tools. The other has a rather complicated drive bay that must be removed to insert a drive. CONCLUSIONS Once you get it working, great if it lives long enough. Seems to be much, much faster. But you really need to be a geek to have a chance to make a successful install and yes, Im a geek. FINAL OBSERVATION If it only works well for less than a year as mine did, its not worth the risk.

If youre on the fence about an SSD, pull the trigger and buy this drive. Worried about the 150TB lifecycle of writes I was. Let me put your mind at ease I reloaded my entire OS Windows 10, reloaded XPlane, a ton of orthographic scenery, and all my dailydriver programs. Oh, and some virtual machines. So Ive used this to write more aggressively over the past six months than my typical use. I have burned through 3.16TB of use. That means I have about 40, say, of these cycles left before the drive will statistically fail. This gives me an MTBF of 20 years. Lets say I have a firstthird drive got unlucky. Call this, what, 5 years of use This is still really good for a HDD, and all the while I am getting the benefit of SPEED. If youre looking, if youre thinking about this drive, if this is the right pricepoint and formfactor for you, buy it.

I didnt have the USB to SATA cable so I was unable to use the Samsung Disk Image software that comes on the DVD with the drive. I read about it ahead of time and prepared by downloading free clone software from EaseUS Todo Backup. 1 Put the drive in. 2 Boot into windows. 3 Use admincomputer management and disk management. 4 Format the Samsung drive NTFS, default allocation and assign it a drive letter. If you want to clone your Boot driveOS, then continue on…. 5 Right click the drive and select properties, make the Samsung drive ACTIVE. 6 Use EaseUS Todo Backup or whatever you want to clone your previous BootOSWindows drive. be sure and DEFRAG that drive before you try to clone it, as you want all the files compacted as much as possible, disk cleanup also on the old drive. Once the Samsung has been made a Clone of your old Boot Drive, then… 7 Reboot and go into your bios. Select the Samsung SSD as the primary boot device in Bios. Save bios and restart. 8 Assign your old Boot Drive a new drive letter not C 9 Reassign the Samsung drive with the OS on it a new drive letter C 10 You can now format the old boot drive, or keep the files on it intact in case you want to make sure the SSD works for awhile.

A month ago I purchased the EVO 850 mSATA variant and was so impressed, I decided to upgrade my Corsair Force GS 240GB SSD with this item. Well, I am so glad I did. Not only am I getting a larger SSD 500GB vs 240GB, but one blazing fast SSD and totally a reliable one as well. Now granted I never had any issues with my Corsair, but it just makes a system work better when like products are used alongside one another, and that is what I have experienced with my Samsung drives. The unit arrived in the retail packaging and was a joy to behold. So, am I happy Very much so, and did I mention the 5 YEAR warranty YES, 5 years When I was looking to upgrade my Corsair, I looked at ALL of the top SSD drives, but this one had the BEST warranty So, I now have 2 Samsung drives mSATA SSD and both have a 5 year warranty. The only other drive I considered was the PRO version of this drive, with a 10 Year warranty But, after fully reviewing the Pro version against this version, I found them to be almost identical, except for the warranty. So with that said, I couldnt justify the increased cost of the PRO version. So, unless you need a 10 year warranty, this item will serve you perfectly One happy camper

Mac users please that note. The Samsung Software that comes with this SSD is for Windows. I used SuperDuper which is free to download online to copy my old hard drive on to the Samsung SSD. You can use SuperDuper or go online to Samsung The web address is on the box and download their software for copying your existing hard drive on to the SSD. As an example of how fast this Samsung SSD is I had to wait 28 seconds for iMovie to open. Now its only three seconds. iMovie is a 5GB app. Other smaller apps open within a second. Another example is my iTunes Library which has around 24GB of songs and movies. iTunes opens within a second and less than half a second of choosing a song or video it will play. I installed the Samsung SSD in to my Mid 2012 MacBook Pro and its working super fast. Im very happy.

This is my fourth solidstate drive purchase and installation All four have been different brands, all four have met my expectations, all four have provided tremendous performance boosts, and I am happy with all four. Before the purchase of the Samssung SSD 850 EVO, I would have thought all SSDs were about the same, and would have recommended that a person shop for the brand that offers the lowest price. After my purchase of the Samssung EVO, I can only recommend a person buy the Samsung EVO series of SSDs. The Samsung models are more expensive, but the cost difference is nominal, you receive more value for your money, you receive a much superior product that supports the price charged.Upgrading your home or home office pc from a HDD to a SSD of any brand is an easy task resulting in noticeable and significant increases in performance, and speed. Solid State Drives are also significantly smaller and lighter than traditional hard drives, but the Ssamsung EVO is the smallest and lightest of the four I have purchased by quite a margin. While I installed it in a desktop pc where size and weight doesnt really play a role, the difference would be significant in a laptop. I am so impressed with the Samsung EVO model that I am purchasing another to replace a previously installed ssd in my laptop. The smaller size lower weight benefit is not what sets the Samsung apart from all the others, however. Its the included softwaredriver that makes for easy cloning of the original drive, and postinstallation, allows the drive to be finetuned for maximum performance and reliability. This process takes just a few minutes, is extremely easy and straightforward, and is unique to Samsung when compared to the other brands I purchased. I couldnt be happier with my purchase of the Samsung SSD 850 EVO. I paid a little morebut just a littleand I received a superior product with software support the others lacked completely. Samsung EVO is the only SSD I can recommend. Buy Samsung and Save your money and your time.

There are lots of SSDs available to buy, some cheaper than Samsung, but none better. Before purchasing I did a lot of research and it comes down to Samsung gives you the full performance some other brands give less than advertized, its reliability has the best ratings, and the technology used for the storage gives you better lifespan than most of the others. Also, the cloning and optimization software it comes with is hard to beat, so when you are setting up your new SSD from an older HDD it makes the transition smooth and simple. I set up two computers with it, one starting fresh and the other was to replace an existing hard drive. In both cases the transistion was smooth and the drives are working great.Bottom line, youll pay a few extra bucks for a Samsung SDD, but it is well worth the price.P.S. If you are debating whether you should get an SDD or just stick with a HDD, get one Youll never want to go back

If youre installing for use with Windows, I recommend using the Samsung Magician software utility to manage the device and optimize system settings. It consolidates a number of system changes into simple profiles for performance, capacity, or reliability which are automatically applied. For Linux, anything not natively optimized, as usual, you can check ArchWiki for. You may have trouble using some features like over provisioning in Windows if youve used the system prior to using Magician due to the creation of immovable files at the end of the system partition. If you temporarily disable pagefile, hibernation, and system protection restore points for the new device, youll be allowed to shrink it manually or let the utility handle it for you. Also, you may want to skip using FS compression under Windows. It significantly wrecks random IOs.

Pros Easy to assemble into the pc case and has plenty of storage. Although if you are going to be running bigger games like gta v and Cod I would recommend going for a higher capacity SSD.Cons The wires that were provided by my SSD were right angled which means I couldnt then have it plugged into my motherboard without it sitting next to my power supply unmounted.

I replaced a 320 GB 7200 RPM drive with this 500 GB SSD and the performance difference was outstanding. With the old drive, booting the machine was painfully slow. When the machine went into hibernate it would take several minutes to resume operations and would often hang up in the process. Even sleep mode would sometimes take a minute to wake up. With the Samsung SSD boot up takes less than a minute, resuming from hibernate 30 seconds or less and has yet to hang. Waking up from sleep mode is instantaneous. Applications start much quicker although the gain varies by the application. The machine is mush quieter since there is no platter to spin. The battery life is somewhat improved, the display remains as the major energy drain. The drive comes with software to migrate from you existing hard drive to the new drive. I decided to use Reflect by Macrium to clone the drive instead. The process of cloning the drive was quite easy and the cloning process itself only took about 30 minutes after completing a backup of the drive. The drive was inserted in an HP Probook 6550b laptop running Windows 7 Professional with an i7 processor

The install and cloning went fairly easy. Just drop in the disk it came with and follow the on screen prompts. If you have installed one on these SSDs in the same computer before the prompt may have you uninstall the previous version of the cloning software, as was my case. Although it asks you to use the USB adapter to do the cloning its not necessary if you would prefer to just install it in an empty hard drive bay, as the software will detect it just fine. It took about 20 minutes for it to clone a 120GB SSD to a 500GB SSD. Also if you have a bigger drive but the data is smaller than the drive you wish to clone to you dont have to do anything other than clone it. ie. I had a 750GB HHD with 100GB of data on it I cloned to a 120 GB SSD and used the 750GB HHD as my secondary D drive and all worked fine. Hope this helps, Im impressed with the drives so far. I upgraded to the 500GB SSD from the 120GB SSD that has worked flawlessly for the last two years. After cloning it fired right up no hick up or problems whatsoever. Its a good drive if youre looking at one and can afford it by all means grab one. AL.B. Slidell, La.

I had still been using traditional hard drives before now and had no idea what I was missing. A few months ago I built a new system based around an Intel 4790k CPUwith liquid cooling, 16GB 1866MHz memory, 2x GTX970 in SLI, and a plain old hard drive, a Western Digital 2TB Caviar Black that I had already owned a few years. I was well aware the HDD was the main bottleneck in my system but really underestimated how much it was holding it back from its true potential. When I installed the 850 EVO 500GB M.2, I figured I was do for a clean install of Windows anyways and wanted to try out Windows 10 so thats what I did. Its a hair longer now, but when it was a completely clean installation with nothing installed other than drivers, it booted to my desktop in 7 seconds. Compared to probably two minutes or morenever really timed it on my previous Windows 7 installation. I was sold on SSDs right there. Even when running programs installed on my other hard drives, everything feels smoother and more responsive. Games load amazingly fast and theres no more occasional slowdowns as part of a map is loaded or the like. I plan to in the near future get another SSD and have everything other than movies, music, pictures, and the like on something solid state. So basically, if you have a moderately decent system but still use a traditional HDD, get yourself an SSD. Itll feel like a new computer and like myself, youll probably end up wondering why you didnt do so long ago.

This Samsung SSD exceeds my wildest expectations with its blazing fast performance. The Magician software is the crown jewel, though. The Data Migration section made moving all data and my Windows 10 OS to the SSD a breeze. Magician is indeed the appropriate name for this software. Speedy, error free, effortless. Magic Likewise the Magician Disc Management section. It provides all the options one needs to configure the SSD according to ones specific requirements. I configured mine for Reliability rather than Performance because this new 30 second computer boot up time is just fine with me This ranks up there with my Corvette as one of my all time best buys

My eMachine was dead it was so slow before I installed this SSD. It was truly amazing how fast the computer is now. On a good day with the old harddrive it would take 30 to 50 seconds for Windows 7 to boot up, now it loads in seconds about 5 seconds truly amazing. One bit of advice do not try to load windows on the partitions that come preloaded. Deleat the partition and create a new one, you should have no problem. I searched the internet to find an answer if this SSD would work on the eMachine E525, I could not find the answer. Well it does work great. Fantastic. One other side note Do Not try to defrag the SSD it is not like the old hard drive, defraging the SSD could slow it down. I did see the same model SSD for a lower price just make sure you are buying new with the warranty.

My wife has the 2011 Samsung Series 9 NP900X3A with a 2nd Gen Dual Core i5 processor, 4 GB of DDR3 RAM, and 128 GB mSATA drive. It was getting frustratingly slow, to the point where we considered buying her a new laptop. After some research, we decided to buy parts and upgrade her existing laptop instead. Bought another 4 GB of RAM, this Samsung 850 EVO mSATA, and an external enclosure so I could still use the 128 GB drive. Did a fresh install of Windows 10 easily and included Samsungs Magician Software to better optimize the SSD. Laptop now runs as well as most modern day laptops that could have cost us 800 USD. With newer NVME drives though, I was hoping I could get this for much cheaper.. probably would have gotten the 1 TB. Regardless of price, this was a purchase I was very happy to make

I bought this SSD hoping not to have to buy another laptop for my wife. She wanted one due to how slow it was getting. We installed it in March and I must tell you it is fantastic. Zero complaints. It was a learning process to get it going. I just installed a new 1TB on my desktop computer yesterday. I am including that review now. It is the same for both. Most new laptops run as fast as they do due the SSDs they have installedI was looking at buying a new computer, mine was so very slow. After looking I noticed most new computers have slower CPUs than the one in mine….. I had heard the SSD was the way to go and it is unbelievable. I have gone from a 11 minute boot up time to under 2 minutes. I timed it from when you push the power button to when I can write a new email… It is fantastic. All apps load instantly and even faster once you open them the first time. It is like having a new computer for only a fraction of the cost. It is important that you follow the instructions. Load the software first. I rebooted then plugged the drive In…. I did not have a sata to usb cable, so unless you have a computer that has an external sata socket you will need the cable. The cloning software seemed to hang up at 100 and not responding, but luckily before stopping it I read online that it seems to do that just let it go and it will eventually finish. Maybe it is performing a function they forgot to add to the overall time, I have no clue, but after an hour it was done, I installed and have not looked back. Best computer purchase I have ever made… Recommend to anyone with a computer and unhappy with performance. I am going to upgrade all my computers now.

Do yourself a favor and dip your toes into the SSD pool with a Samsung. Even if you just get a 250GB Evo to run your OS and a few key gamesprograms, you are gonna be smiling from ear to ear. You can expect your system to boot up in 1020 seconds, not minutes. Programs that youve installed on the SSD will start almost before you click on the shortcut. This drive I just purchased is for my Dads new computer. Hes been running an old Dell that has just continually degraded in performance year after year. Rather than upgrade the system, Im building him a new one. The key to this new build This SSD. With an Intel I3, 16GB of RAM and Evo SSD, he wont know what hit him. Instead of waiting 10 minutes to use his computer after booting it up, hes gonna be able to sit down, press the power button and get right to surfing the internets and perusing the 15 years of email he has archived. NOT to be confused with its predecessors the EVO 740EVO 840, the Samsung EVO 850 is the top of the range in my experience. I have been in the laptop trade for many years, and with the technical bench marking experiments I have done only one model of Toshiba SSD of similar on paper spec came close. On the other hand the cheap and nasty King was rubbish, and when I bench marked one it was not much better that a 7200 spin speed ordinary HDD. Normally most laptop HDDs spin at 5400rpm. ALSO, as a side issue I have been SO awfully let down by very poor performance of King Value products. As for RAM memory, I recommend either the best which is the Crucial brand and as a very close second, not only for performance but for compatibility, as with some makes of ram of the same make and specification will not work properly together, but in my great many years and experience I have never had even one single issue with Crucial or Corsair. DONT SKIMP, or you could so easily get bad value for money

I highly recommend this. Money wise, this is the best upgrade you can make on your computer if you do a bit of everything on it. Personally I do everything, from social media sites to watching movies to video games. Mostly video games. If you hate loading times as much as me, get this. If you hate low FPS and like good graphics, get a GPU first, then this. Also, keep in mind SSDs are very sturdy and highly unlikely to break down or be defective. Unlike many Graphics cards which have a much higher chance of having problems later down the road or being defective. A bit off topic here, but I highly recommend the Nividia Geforce GTX 960. It runs cool, it is sturdy, and it is well worth the money. Will play anything you throw at it on ultra if you have the processor to keep it from bottlenecking.

I bought the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB drive to replace the Samsung 128 GB 840 PRO that I originally chose when I had my laptop custom configured a year and a half ago. That one had worked great, but was getting full. It was a very easy swap. The Data Migration went flawlessly. I made an image of the original and saved it to my external drive just in case. The Magician software is great as well. This is my 3rd Samsung SSD EVO drive in addition to the PRO. I just put one in my wifes laptop in a 2nd bay and moved OS to it. That also went flawless.I also took the 840 PRO that this 850 EVO replaced, and putt it into an 8 year old laptop. Also easy to do, with the only trouble was having to find a spacer as it went into a side slot that held a 9mm HDD. I was able to find one for a couple of dollars. I would like to see Samsung offer a spacer for this purpose.I know have the Samsung SSD in all 3 laptops, plus my desktop. I will recommend them to anyone.

I purchased a refurnished laptop with a standard 500GD hard drive. I replaced that slow hard drive with this Samsung SSD drive and boot up and shut down times went from 10 seconds to almost immediate. The drive is super fast and accessing files like pictures are almost instantaneous. If you want to upgrade your laptop to become a much faster machine, this inexpensive purchase alone will dramatically change your performance experience of the laptop. After purchasing the first one to replace the drive of my present laptop, I also did the upgrade to my wifes laptop which had a slower processor and less memory and discovered the same fast performance difference on her laptop. Note that the SSD drive comes with migration software which makes cloning the old laptop to the new drive painless.

How can you go wrong with this drive The price is great, the thing will last even much longer than they quote there have been tests… and magician software is even helpful. RAPID is a cool concept if youve got some RAM to spare. Basically turns this single SSD in to an SSD RAID0 feel by using RAM as cache, just like RAID cards do. If youre thinking about the Pro vs this model, the only differences are the Pro has a 3core controller vs this models 2 core, the Pro is provisioned to the full capacity 512 vs 500 and the Pro has the longer warranty. Will you feel any difference with the pro in a home rig NO. In a high end workstation where this drive is going to take a beating for long periods of time autocad and other specific use cases the Pro could be worth it as it will yield lower latency, likely works better in RAID arrays though you should be looking at the SM951 these days and is quoted to last longer.

Pros Genuinely speeds up any computer. The most laggy part of any computer is the hard disk. With this installed a Windows PClaptop just flies. Boots in a couple of seconds and is ready to launch apps quickly immediately after sign in. Also, on a more technical point, the fact that the system swapfile is on an SSD means even systems with low amounts of RAM really benefit from the boost in speed. Excellent Have now put SSDs in all my systems.Cons This particular model only has 120GB of space but 250GB and 500GB versions are available. This size is fine for a laptop that does not have a large media collection e.g. big musicvideophoto collection.

While I have been rotating my business PCs to SSDs, Ive had a few issues so I kept hearing about how great the Samsungs were so I decided to try one. I couldnt decide between the Pro and the EVO but pricewise placed me with the EVO. I was astounded how simple it was to clone the existing hard drive off a new Panasonic CF30 yeah, its old but I run an automation business so I need old gear using the included Magician software. Not only did I have zero faults, but it was done in about 30 minutes, most of that most likely being my old rotating drives slowness. The boot time for Win 7 32bit was reduced from over 5 minutes to 1 minute, 6 seconds from the flick of the power switch. Programs which took a minute or two to open now open with just a click. I am so impressed with the EVO I could hardly imagine what the Pro version could do. Definitely Samsung from here on out.

First off, the drive is great. Revolutionized my computers operation when I cloned my system drive and replaced it with this. I can reboot, roundtrip from the desktop, in about 30 seconds. photoshop opens nearly instandly. GTA5, FO4, Skyrim, etc, all load games and fast travels in 10 seconds.Im dinging a star because they dont include a cable with the drive. I know its a cheap cable, but thats why they should include one. I bought this right before Christmas, and it came right in the middle of the holidays, when the few stores still carrying SATA3 cables were closed, and online shipping was a mess due to holidays. I basically couldnt use the drive for 4 days after receiving it because I had no cable to hook it to my motherboard.Im sure I could have figured out it didnt have a cable, and maybe no internal hard drives come with cables anymore. I dunno, its been awhile since Ive bought one. But … its literally a 5 cable. Box one in and make our lives a little easer.

Samsung is definitely a name you can trust. Their hardware and products across all mediums are solid and trustful. I purchased this drive to replace the one that came with a PC I bought at the same time as the main drive. The lack of mounting screws was disappointing, as the screws that typically fit any drive did not want to fit this one at all. I had to go through a bin of random screws to find some that would actually fit this drive and hold it in place. There is no cables included with this drive so be sure to buy an extra SATA cable if you need one Also a power adapter if you need one as well. This drive came with an instruction book on how to copy existing files over to this drive using a USB adapter that is not even included. Seems kind of odd to include anything like that when the parts needed are not included with the package. Overall a great buy, great and solid drive and performs well.

Pros My OCZ 64Gb drives was down to the last 420mb. They were great drives, but a 5 year old Sata II SSDs dont compare to this Sata III beast. I bought 2, one for my PC and one for my wifes PC. I will definitely be buying one more of these for my daughters PC.This Samsung SSD comes with Data Migration software for cloning an existing partition as well as Samsung Magician software for optimizing the drive. There is no need to buy or download any other cloning software. The cloning process was easy and took about an hour with an external USB to Sata II enclosure I had one laying around. The Samsung Magician software identified that I had the SSD set for IDE and not AHCI AHCI is much faster.Benchmarks with the SSD set for IDE were terrible, and here they areBenchmarks are as followsSequential Read 346 MBSecSequential Write 440 MBSecRandom Read 9074 IOPSRandom Write 18,623 IOPSAfter correcting and converting to AHCI my benchmarks are as followsSequential Read 532 MBSecSequential Write 506 MBSecRandom Read 39,839 IOPSRandom Write 34,084 IOPSMuch improved and you can really tell the difference, especially with game loading.Cons None at this moment. Ill update this review in a month or two.Other Thoughts If you installed Windows 7 in IDE mode and realize you actually needed AHCI mode for better SSD performance, you can fix this issue easily. You cant just go into the Bios during windows 7 boot up or your OS will crash. The following are instructions on how I corrected my IDE to AHCI1 Startup Regedit2 Open HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlset Services3 Open msahci4 In the right pane, left click on start then right click and select Modify5 In the value data field enter 0 and click OK.6 exit Regedit7 Reboot your system and enter your BIOS hold Delete key while rebooting8 In the BIOS select Integrated Peripherals and Onchip PATASATA Devices.9 Change SATA Mode to AHCI from IDE10 Save and exit BIOS, and boot into Windows 7. The OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Your system will now need one more reboot, then youll have the screaming SSD youve always wanted.

This is my first experience with an SSD, so I am not able to compare to other models. Ive only been using this for a couple weeks, so too early to comment on reliability. I am putting this into a computer that has had very high specs for a long time, but those high specs were choked out by the bottleneck of a HDD read and write speed. Now that I have a very fast SSD, the computer feels like a brand new muchupgraded machine, and all of the other hardware of the box finally has a chance to shine. I tried a 4TB hybrid drive, but I really didnt see much difference from a traditional HDD. This, on the other hand makes a very noticeable difference in performance. I should have done this years ago. Dont wait like I did. Get yourself a real SSD for booting and programs. It makes your computer sooooo much faster.

This drive comes with the drive, a Quickstart guide with cartoon guides for setting the drive up on a laptop OR desktrop, a warranty statement in umpteen languages and a disc with Samsung Magician and a more indepth manual. There are NO mounting brackets or adapters, and there is NO SATA cable, and if you plan to clone a drive, there is NO USB adapter, you cannot use an external encasing. Have these on hand if you want to install when you get your shipment Or better yet, order them with the drive Samsung Magician is totally optional. On SATA III without it youll get advertised readwrite speeds WITH Magician, youll not only meet them almost consistently, you can easily EXCEED them A previous reviewer has stated by 50. HOWEVER, Samsung Magician is finnicky software, and in fact, the drive itself is finnicky. But more on that in a second, lets go through my install process Installed the drive, checked BIOS, it was all good. It automatically set the drive to IDE. This came back later. I did a clean install of my brand new Free copy of Windows 10, formatting my current 1TB WD Green HDD, and installing to the SSD. The installation was complete in less than 30 minutes, with ME as the bottleneck. It booted fine, drivers installed well, updates went without a hitch. Then my system crashed. I installed Samsung Magician and it reported everything was okay, but notified me Youre using this drive in IDE mode, and not AHCI. To get the best performance, we recommend AHCI mode. Was this significant Yes. I tried all sorts of drive settings and optimizations in Magician. My system would keep crashing periodically. I troubleshooted for two hours before I finally decided to switch the drive to AHCI. This is tangly. If you installed Windows on IDE, and change the BIOS to AHCI, Windows will not want to boot. Its set to load IDE drivers and never even look at AHCI drivers to optimize your booting. Your PC WILL NOT BOOT if you change your drive to AHCI after installing Windows with the drive in IDE. A safe mode boot after switching to AHCI solves this. However, that was in fact the issue. I left my PC on overnight to test and I came back to it humming away when I woke up. The same problem can be caused by other things too. They SAY that Samsung Magician, and sometimes that the drive itself, does not play well with AMD chipsets, and having an AMD FX6300, I can confirm this. As mentioned above, on IDE mode without Magician, on an AMD mobo, my PC would crash after roughly 30 minutes. But in other cases, AHCI mode or not, the drive crashes because of Samsung Magician Its the same problem, but there are several solutions. Do yourself a favor and make sure you switch whatever SATA ports your put this drive on to AHCI BEFORE you install Windows, no matter your chipset Intel or AMD. In some cases its the difference between the drive functioning or not, and in others it just straightup increases the dri

I replaced my SSD along with deciding to buy my first SSD. This is the first time Ive ever touched anything myself on the inside of my PC, and boy was it intimidating. To my pleasant surprise, installing my new HDD and SSD was easier than I thought it would be. The only harder part was my horrible cable management. Low and behold I realized that I needed a 2.53.5 drive adapter. I wasnt about to buy one so I made do with the double sided Velcro I had laying around from something else. I simply velcrod it to the bottom of my case. I know, I know. Cringe. So far however the Velcro has held, and the SSD is working amazingly. I especially like the magician soft wear that arrived alongside the SSD that allowed me to quickly optimize it. I would recommend this SSD for anyone. Great price. 500GB of SSD by Samsung. Comes with the Samsung Magician software, Performance benchmarks at first said it wasnt working, than after optimization within the Samsung Magician speeds went up to as follows Sequential Read 551 MBs Up to 540 Sequential Write 529 MBs Up to 520 Random Read 95667 IOPS Up to 98000 Random Write 88068 IOPS Up to 90000 My PNY 240GB does slightly better in all benchmarks surprisingly. But also has been used or broken in a bit more. Just that aside this arrived early, installed easily after finding where to activate it as a Drive in PC, and super lightweight. Great addition for the empty 2.5 bay. Other thoughts, I would be more upset with those benchmarks if I paid any more.

Windows will recognize the drive if your biosUEFI is set to either AHCI or IDE just not RAID, remember. Of course, we dont want to use anything except AHCI. You can still get RAID arrays while your motherboard is set AHCI, of coursejust use Windows Disk Management to create the arrays by striping two physical disks into the number of RAID 0 partitions you want. I use twin 500GB Seagate Cudas formatted into two RAID 0 partitionsdrives E and F in my system. Its commonly called software RAID but it runs 99 as fast as socalled hardware RAID as far as I can see. I think but dont know that Samsung has done something to make these drives invisible to Windows under a RAID controller because sometimes the TRIMM commands are not passed through the RAID drivers even though they are supposed to be AHCIcompatible. Windows configures hardware RAID as scsi devices, so that might be the problem. Its all really moot, however, because just one of these SSDs in AHCI mode boots Window far faster than any RAID 0 mechanicaldrive configuration I have ever seen Love it.

used this on an ACER One AO722, 1GHZ atom uP with 4GB ram. I bought this because I thought the HDD was failing, due to laggy 3min to 20 min boot times and the seemingly daily Windows 7 security patches. Was forced by windows to do defrag and partition shrink to fit a 40GB used 500GB partition to a 232GB SDD. Took 2 days to get windows log, virus vault, appdata, and fragmented excluded files off of the 60 mark and last 3 of the partition. Thanks PerfectDisk free and AOEIM partition cloning software, cuz the Win 7 admin tools configuration manager disk drive management and defrag tool just couldnt cut it. For a laptop buy the Samsung sata to usb connector. Itll save you 2 days of disassemblyreassembly and having to use another PCs extra slots. Funny thing after defragging 4 times, and shrinking the drive to 130GB The laptop boot time went from 35 min down to 1 min. After cloning to the SDD, boot time went down to 30 sec. This is a 1GHz Atom dual core, so I didnt expect instant…but the improved load times were nice.

This SSD is amazing. The Evo line never disappoints. This things is blazing fast. It is not as fast as an NVMe, however it is so fast you wouldnt even be able to tell the difference. With an instant boot time, and games loading in extremely quickly this is a must buy for any PC enthusiast.

This is my 2nd SSD drive, first one was a Kingston 240GB for a laptop, while this Samsung one went into my lowish budget IBUYPOWER pc. They are great drives to have speedy, efficient, no complaints. The one thing I dont recommend, after seeing many issues on online tech forums, is to use the Samsung software that came with this drive to clone Windows 10. I used the free version of EaseUs Todo and that worked flawlessly. It did take over 3 hours to clone my 1 TB Hitachi drive only had 180 GB full to my Samsung SSD, but I was using a USB 3 external SSD adapter cheap Amazon.com one to do so.Fyi, my internal IBUYPOWER 7200 rpm Hitachi drive originally had Win 8.1 on it, and then I upgraded to the free Windows 10 release. The Samsung drive has no problem running the Windows 10 cloned copy. There were 2 older software packages that needed reactivation of their product key, but it let me reactivate without any issues or payments needed. My MS Office 2010 with Outlook works fine no reactivation needed, printer works fine Samsung duplex laser printer, scanner Canon liDE 120, etc.

Anyone looking at the Samsung Gear S should know that the charging cradle has a flawed design. There is a very thin and very small plastic clip on the charging cradle that allows the cradle to snap onto the back of the Gear S. The clip is such thin plastic that it breaks with gentle normal use.I did a lot of reading on forums before buying a Gear S and saw hundreds of people having this issue. I still decided to buy a Gear S and was just going to be really careful and avoid breaking the clips on my cradle. YOU CANNOT AVOID BREAKING THIS NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRY. 6 months of gentle use and it no longer clips onto the watch. There is no way Samsung would not have seen this issue when testing this product in the lab and before releasing it to market. It is a really poorly designed cradle that I can in no way recommend. If yours breaks, then I suggest reading online about the work around that others have come up with. Do not throw more money at Samsung for a replacement that will undoubtedly break on you also.

I bought this SSD for my fairly new HP Desktop that initially came with a 128 Gig Samsung.I felt initially that that was really too small long term and it has proven to be insufficient for my needs. I am only using about 25 of it, but that means it will last almost forever. This is the 4th Samsung SSD that I have installed on a computer this year and the first one was the most challenging since the migration software was not as good as required, but the last 3 with the latest migration was easy as could be. If things are right on your old disc, this will successfully migrate things while you enjoy your coffee and breakfast or whatever you will do while it is being installed. When it is ready to go comes that part that requires the most effort, but depending on the computer you are putting it on, it will be maybe a 15 minute to one hour job. 500 Gig will be the sweet spot for most of us and this is a good value for 150 or so and will make your computer more enjoyable to use. Every computer that I use or help others with today has a Samsung 500 Gig SSD on it and when you use the Samsung Magician with it when it is installed, you will get the best performance on it no matter what type of computer it is. Samsung has really done their job on giving you a high performing product that works at a level that might blow your socks OFF. All of the computers that Installed this product on had an i7 processor and 6 gig to 24 gig of ram. This will help any computer, but probably have its best performance on ones with 4 cores or more on the processor. the I7s I put them on effectively have 4 cores with hyperthreading and they look like they have 8 cores.

Hooking the drive up as a slave in this system. I have now 4 total hard drives. A SSD boot drive 120gb and two secondary media drives at 640gb each of the older rotational variety. Installed the new Evo booted up and went to look for it. Doesnt have a drive letter. Hmm ok. Shows up in device manager just fine drivers are already the newest… it has the newest firmware on it too. It has been so long since I have added a new drive that I forgot its not ready to go right out of the box. So once its installed speaking purely as a slave drive. Windows 10 though it should be the same for 8 as well. Right click the windows start menu and select disk management. Find the new drive if the window doesnt automatically popup to intialize the drive. Use the MBR Master Boot Record option. Also use the Simple volume setting as well. Hit ok and once thats done format using NTFS. Drive should be all happy and ready to go with its new drive letter.

I bought this SSD from which to run three operating systems and applications. It was expensive, but similar size SSDs cost two to three times as much when bought new. It was very easy to install, slotting straight into an internal drive caddy I bought for the purpose and installed in my towers unused lower optical bay. The seller had preformatted it for me, and I was able to clone my main OS onto it without issue. Having owned it now for over a month, it has so far run flawlessly and greatly sped up both my Mac OS and Windows systems, allowing me to more effectively manage my time and energy usage. My computer feels new again Very pleased.

Used daily for the last 5 years for high performance gaming and multitasking. I wouldnt consider this a con, but 5 years ago this was an expensive drive understandably so. Its relatively inexpensive now, as much larger drives would equate to its original cost.

Upgrading to the Samsung SSD 850 EVO M.2 500GB is the best thing that ever happened for my laptop. Apps load blazingly fast. The increase in performance is immediately noticeable. The only hassle is that it does not come with a M.2 mounting screw. And to my luck, my laptop also does not have a M.2 screw in the mounting screw hole of its M.2 slot. So I had to procure a separate M.2 screw which was a bit of a hassle.Data migration was a bit tricky since the Samsung Data Migration Tool was not able to clone the recovery partition of my old hard disk. Kinda disappointed about that, but its not much of a big deal since I was able to make a workaround by creating a recovery USB using Windows 10s Create USB Recovery app.Overall though, I am very satisfied with the product. Im never settling for those old, rattling, heavy hard disks again. Ever.

I am impressed at the quality of this product despite the high price, due to having issues with other Samsung products in the past. Includes software for managing all functions of the device, and allows customisation for how the device operates, be it Longevity of the devices lifespan or raw speed and power. From my testing this software can also be used for other branded SSDs also, with the exception of coming up listed as unrecognised devices. Even on longevity mode the device operates bang on its advertised speeds, mine were actually above the stock specs, no complaints here. The only thing negative I can say about this device is that it doesnt come with an adapter or bracket for mounting in 3.5 or other sized bays. Not much of a biggy but for its asking price it should really have 1 included.

This SSD uses an interface the SATA that is rapidly being replaced with better interfaces… but these new interfaces are only available on the newest machines, with the newest motherboardschipsets. These are of course very expensive, until the production cycle gets toward the end, at which cost begins to drop. 3 years from now, the newer interfaces will come down in price, as they are also replaced by newer and better. But for right now, the SATA3 interface is still a darn good one, and the standard plattertype HDDs are still too slow to effectively use the speed available from SATA3. That means an SSD that uses the SATA3 is still a vast improvement on the standard HDD that normally comes with a machine, and of all the SSDs that use the SATA3, the Samsung 850 EVO is probably the very best available. The reviewers were singing its praises with angelic sweetness, 3 years ago, when it was king.

When I first installed this 4TB drive I loaded Windows 10, However the disk pace was only showing 2TB, not 4TB capacity After reading in the Internet, I found out I had to buy special software to convert the drive to GPT. I purchased AOMEI Partition Assistant Professional Edition. Then I selected Disk and then Convert MBRGPT. Also, changed on my computer BIOS by selecting F12 UEFI. Then I was able to install W10. The new drive then showed 4TB capacity in File Explorer. Apparently, Windows has a 2TB limit on drives with MBR So, if you do not want the hassle, only use 2TB drives, This drive was expensive 1100.

This was my second try at installing an SSD into my 2012 laptop. Over a year ago I had purchased a competing product and fought to install it. I imaged, cloned, used EasyBCD but I just could not get it to boot regularly. In fact, it would never restart but would boot if I turned off the computer then turned it back on. I gave up on it and installed a 7200 RPM HD. Oddly enough the competing product I bought 3 installed and booted into an 7 year old laptop and a 9 year old desktop. In 2015 I bought this 850 EVO. I had read the reviews for this around the time I had bought the competing SSDs but the price was nearly 200 for a 250GB SSD so I passed. I wish I hadnt. The EVO installed so easily, sooooo easily. I cant believe how easily it installed. It didnt care whether I booted from EUFI, or Legacy, or BCD or any other cryptic name the gearheads use when they build these things. I didnt have to know anything. This thing was basically plug and play. I lost a year of SSD speediness because I was being cheap.I have had this EVO for a few months now. There are no heat or noise issues you might get from a regular hard drive. The computer boots faster than it had ever before. The only thing that seems to slow it down is program incompatibility between my operating system and my old school word processor.Every Samsung product I have ever owned has been a delight. Maybe they will make cars some day.

Installed with zero issues in a PC with an older ASUS motherboard running Windows 7. With 15 years in the IT field I am aware of all the potential problems and compatibility issues I could have run into, and I was expecting to have to get under the hood for at least minor tweaks to get this working. But Samsung has obviously done their homework well, this product is slick. Both the Data Migration and Samsung Magician software programs installed and operated flawlessly. The OS boot drive cloning procedure worked perfectly, as did the drive and OS optimization routines after successfully booting to the SSD. Performance gain over the previous HDD a WD Raptor is amazing. I am impressed, highly recommend this product.

Replaced the HDD in a HP Envy 15 x360 laptop running Windows 8.1 with this SSD. Samsung included a CD with a Data Migration tool, which I had to first install on the HDD since the laptop does not include an optical drive. The Data Migration tool initially failed to clone the HDD to the SSD, but provided a error code that I could look up the problem on Samsungs website. Per the website, I moved the USB connection to the SSD from the laptops USB 3.0 port to a 2.0 port, and the migration ran without any further issues. I then registered the device 5 year warranty, and downloaded the Samsung Magician application to optimize the SSD and OS settings, and test performance. I configured my SSD for maximum reliability and enabled RAPID mode. My particular results are the following. Your results may vary, depending on the hardware or your laptop. Sequential Read MBs 3035 Sequential Write MBs 2128 Random Read IOPS 71588 Random Write IOPS 44576

First, I have used SSDs for many years now, and have installed them in everything. From gaming rigs to simple laptops, I always run SSDs and no longer use any traditional HDDs whatsoever. I have purchased Crucial ,OCZ, Munchkin, and Samsung SSDs. Typically the Samsung benched the best, but overall I have found that all of these other SSDs offered similar performance while in use, and only really showed any difference in benchmarks. Sizes used were from 120g to 500g, and everything in between. Now my problem with the 500g Samsung EVO 850. I installed this as an upgrade to my EVO 850 250g drive. If you read the specs, the 500g drive shows a slight improvement in performance over the 250g, but not much. Still the last thing I thought would happen is a HUGE drop in random read and write speeds. These drives were both installed on an ASUS Maximus VI Hero motherboard with a i7 4790K CPU, and low CAS 8 1866 ram, running on Win 10 Pro 64 bit. I cloned the 500 g off of the 250 g using the Samsung Magician software. The 500g speeds were 553 Sequential Read 528 Sequential write. Decent speeds But the random read was down a bit at 71297 , still not horrible, but not even close to the 250g speeds. The random write speeds were only 28610 BTW, that 28k number is the best I have ever managed with this drive. The 250g 850 has 548 sq read 521 sq write 96887 ran read and 82967 ran write. First I thought maybe a bad cable, so I swapped the drive cables, so that the 500g drive was using the same cables from the 250g and was even connected to the same Sata port as the 250g was previously. Reran test, same results from both drives. The 250g performed great, but the 500g drive still had the pitiful random performance. As a result, I contacted Samsung support to see if they could offer a suggestion as to what was going on here. I got the usual, did you do this, and did you do that responses. No help whatsoever. Also, their responses made some suggestions like what port was it in, do you have a bad cable or connection Clearly ignoring the simple and OBVIOUS fact that the 250g performed properly when connected to either of the sata ports while using either sets of cables So Im thinking maybe the cloning was to blame. So now, Im not wanting to wipe the 500g 850, so I decide to try all of the possible issues with Windows setup. No matter what settings i tried, the drive speeds remained the same. At least they are consistent So now Im left with the last option. Wipe the disk, reformat and see if the cloning was to blame. The 500g drive is now th storage drive with the 250g as the bootOS drive . I downloaded some games from Steam, after setting up the drive in disk management,, and reran the test again . SAME HORIBLE RANDOM READ AND WRITE SPEEDS AS BEFORE NO CHANGE WHATSOEVER CLEARLY THE DISK IS DEFECTIVE, AND ITS POOR PERFORMAANCE HAS ZERO TO DO WITH SETUP OR CLONING JUST A BIG WASTE OF TIME Thanks Samsung My time may not be super valuable, but it is worth something to me …

Both Dell and Samsung support are BAD. Both support personnel seem to me more worried about clearing requests than solving customer issues. Received canned answers from both. Samsung answer was sorry, you need to contact Dell on the positive side they answered in hours. Dells answer was, on your 7 month old laptop, you need to call us for a price….. I swore a decade ago I would never buy Dell again but a big box had what seemed like a good buy, I wish I had a time machine, no more Dell for me. Samsung, products are good out of the box, after that, one does not exist. My galaxy tab is missing so many Android security patches I have lost count. Just an FYI for AMD users, Samsung SSD firmware update does not work on AMD chipsets, that is unless you downgrade to generic msft drivers. I am in the industry, my customers call me for help on their PCs even though I neither sold nor support them. Building desktops or servers from scratch is a no brainer for our company. Dealing with nonwhite box units is a growing pain. It all comes down to support and proprietary software. I have yet to have a positive experience with Dell concerning my laptop, but this is not the forum for that. Samsung support, well there isnt any…..

Once you get over the sticker shock, youll find yourself wondering why you didnt get this drive sooner. Ive been using it with a build I put together last year. In the year Ive been using it, its been exceptional. You can go cheap on a few things when upgrading your computer the three places you cant are Video, memory and storage. When I built my system, I built it around an AMD FX8350. I added this hard drive, a ZOTAC GeForce GTX 970 4GB to the Corsair 16 Gb RAM and MSI 990FXAGD80 V2 motherboard. A friend and customer of mine bought a computer from HP based around an i7 chip. It had a 2 Tb spinner and the default Intel video chip set. In the competition, I was running at the desktop before his PC got through the Loading Windows bar. My system still loads Word in around 16 seconds, while his back then took over a minute and 10 seconds. His system cost more too. Mine was all Newegg parts. Again. if you want a good build, this drive deserves consideration.

I had a Samsung 850 EVO 250GB SSD and it was a very efficient SSD with its 3D VNAND. Read and Write speed was above 500MB and it was running in top notch but when you need to install programs like Visual Studio 2015 you need space and a lot of it. So I upgraded to the 500 and man the Read and Write is faster and the Random Read and Write is also in pretty high benchmark with its VNAND. You only get 465GB but that is enough for me. I think this SSD will be good for anyone who needs basic space and by basic I am talking about few big programs and that is it. If you are looking to install your Steam, Origin, and Uplay library then I recommend breaking the piggy bank and getting the 2TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD which is going to cost you a whole lot of Benjamins but hey if you have the money why not and if you want to go overboard get the 4TB Samsung 850 EVO SSD which is going to cost you over a thousand dollars but like a said if you can afford it why not haha. But other than that the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB is prefect for most users. Besides I have a 2TB HDD as my secondary and dont require such massive SSDs.

I love almost everything about the Samsung Gear S, but I dont care for the charger very much. Ill give a few examples of why I dont care for the charger. Hopefully Samsung will find this review up to par.First, the design of the charger holding a charge without it needing to be plugged in is awesome Ive noticed that once you unplug the charger it doesnt keep the charge for long, unfortunately. About late afternoon time the Gear S needs some juice. So, I normally keep the charger in my car to plug it in. Though when I put the charger on, it only charges the device to about 30 and dies.Second, if the watch is waterproof shouldnt the charger be as well Im on my 2nd charger because I dropped my first one in my cats water bowl by accident. Amazingly, it still charges the watch, but doesnt hold a charge anymore without it being plugged in. This was an accident on my part, obviously, but I think it would be cool in the Gear 3 to ponder a waterproof charger as well.Thats all I got Its alright for a first run, but Id really like to see a 2.0 of this charger.

Highly recommend this drive. I cant vouch for longevity yet, but the 5 year warranty is awesome. This was the single best performance boosting upgrade I have ever done. Win 10 boots to password screen in 18 seconds. I used to always put the computer into sleep mode to decrease the time waiting for a start up. Now I shut it down completely because the boot up is so quick. The ONLY negative so far was the included data migration software. It didnt work. First attempt it locked up at 1. Second attempt it cloned the drive with no issues 100, but took hours for about 150 gig of data…AND one problem. It would not boot. Not matter what I tried to do. I also found it a little weird that the installation instructions want you to connect it with an adapter which is NOT included of course to an external USB port to transfer the data first and then install it onto the SATA bus. Why That is probably why it takes so long to copy data over. After many attempts in various ways I gave up and downloaded a third party free clone software and it migrated the data in less than one hour and booted right up. And did this with it installed on the SATA bus. Just disconnect the source when done. You might think the company that makes the drive AND includes proprietary software to manage it would make sure it works with it. I see others here have had success with it. I guess it is some hit or miss thing depending on different drive interfaces maybe. But I wont knock off any eggs because of that…because the main deal is the performance and not only the boot up time but every application flies. You wont be disappointed with this drive.

The Samsung 850 EVO has data migration software that works flawlessly. I used it to migrate Win10pro from my Desktop computer to my external ESATA docking station and it took less than 10 minutes and did it perfectly. I was very surprised. I set my bios to boot from the ESATA docking station and the Samsung 850 EVO Booted perfectly. My Desktop SSD is a Intel 730 with 480GB of capacity. The Samsung 850 EVO has 500GB of capacity. The Samsung migration software is extremely easy to use and works perfectly. I have many friends that have used Samsung 850 SSDs and they all have had very good results with all the Samsung software including Samsung Magician. I used the Samsung 850 EVO for several days in my external ESATA docking station to make sure the backup of my C drive works perfectly now and has 20GHz more space on it also. I purchased an additional 500Ghz Samsung 850 EVO that I will be also using in the near future. These drives are extremely dependable and I personally know several close friends that have been using these drives for several months now and they have reported all excellent results from all their data migration and cloning. I have many computers including laptops and I have mostly Intel and Kingston SSDs in them. I will be installing larger capacity Samsung 850 EVO drives in all these in the near future. It is by far the best drive for the money and with the 5 year warranty it is an absolute winner in my opinion. I am a certified Professional Broadcast Engineer. This product is amazing It is currently installed on my Mid 2012 Macbook Pro. After install I found my boot ups and application startup times significantly improved as an SSD would. It is reliable and very affordable Since it comes from Samsung you will find that the quality of the SSD is as great as all their other products. Those who question this SSD keep in mind it IS Mac compatible. The price is just right for the amount of gigabytes you get and exceptional speeds. Its a nice looking SSD with all metal but of course its not gonna be outside the laptop since its an internal SSD. I am currently booting up from shutdown in less than 20 seconds out of the minute and a half or more I got with the stock Toshiba HDD that comes with the mid 2012 and lesser models. GREAT BUY

The average HDD in my laptop Readwrite both 100ish, everything slow, scores 1.2103.010. You absolutely need this without a doubt unless you have m2x4. Unless you have the slot to take advantage of a better SSD, this is the best you can get. There are VERY few products this good that work with these sockets. THIS IS MSATA PERFORMANCE This would be EXCELSIOR if I put 2 or 3 of these on an old PC with Msatas. Im assuming desktops used msata before m.2. I have a gap from 20052015. Computers on the floor 247 from inception2005 and from 20052015. This is why I ordered the wrong form factor. I have learned now, and this is the best for m.2 even if you have m2.2 , which you probably do. If you didnt buy your computer this year or the last 3 months of 2014, you dont have m2x4 most likely.

A quality Solid State Drive SSD using NANDbased flash memory with no moving parts has typically two to eight times the readwrite speed, uses less power and runs cooler and quieter than a mechanical drive.Consequently, SSDs are a very costeffective way of significantly improving the overall responsiveness of desktop and laptop computers. The Samsung 850 EVO MZ75E250BAM 2.5 250GB SATA III 3D State Drive is easy to install with its own data migration software that can completely mirror a primary drive that has less data than its capacity. With a sequential read of 540 MBs QD32 of 97,000 IOPS and write of 520 MBs QD32 of 88,000 IOPS using TurboWrite technology, Samsung claims that the 850 EVOSeries delivers top class performance. Moreover, the 850 EVO is a SelfEncrypting Drive that secures data with no loss of performance due to its AES 256bit hardwarebased encryption engine.Additionally, Samsung states that it has an industry leading 5 year warranty, and a 1.5 million hours Mean Time Between Failures MTBF. It has been said that modern SSDs can maintain data for over 200 years

I bought this SSD to replace my slow 5400 RPM HDD that my laptop came with, the boot time was unbearable The price was right so I gave it a try. I am so happy I did. This is the single most impressive upgrade to any PC I have ever made, my boot time is at least 20 times faster, my programs load at lightning speed and can multitask with no lag or hesitation. Very happy with this SSD. I migrated my OS from my HDD if you dont have a SATA III to USB 3 you will need one to migrate, unless you plan on doing a fresh OS install using the migration software from Samsung, It went without a single issue. After I swapped my hard drives I booted the system and ran the Magician software and did a final reboot. Then the benchmark tests, WOW Average readwrite from my old HDD was 81.3 MBs, The SSD average was 673MBs……. Very impressed with this drive, I would recommend one to anyone who wants to free up their PC performance bottleneck their hard HDD.

I have a home recording studio with several pieces of highend gear and a PC with all the bells and whistles Win 7 three storage drives 16GB RAM multiple USB2.0 3.0 connections Firewire connections 3 monitors. Well, ALMOST all … the PC came with a 5400rpm hard drive for the primary drive, and it wasnt quite meeting the demands of all my recording sessions.Enter the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB. At this point it is installed, fully operational and running my sessions with scarcely an errant pop or glitch. Programs load up FAST, its quiet as a church mouse, less powerconsuming and cooler. All great pluses any studio engineer would applaud. There was only one pothole on my road to system Nirvana, and that was the cloning software. More specifically, it was the fact that my PC didnt recognize the SSD as a Samsung drive when I connected it via USB3.0 to SATA. So, when I tried to employ the cloning software I got an unpleasant message telling me that no Samsung drive was connected to my PC.I tried upgrading the drivers, my BIOS always good to do that when your manufacturer recommends it anyway and searched every troubleshooting measure on the Samsung site to no avail. Faced with a potentially costly install at the local computer geek store, I happened upon a demo of a 3rdparty cloning software that I saw recommended by multiple different sites and blogs.Since Im a musician and not a computer geek, I was afraid I might really mess up my system so I read many tutorials and watched many videos about doing it the RIGHT way which includes completely backing up your system FIRST dont ever make any major changes without doing thatUltimately, I successfully got the new drive cloned, spent about 15 minutes changing out the drives, fired up the PC and everything ran without any problems. It took it a couple of restarts to really get into the groove and start flying through the startup and opening of programs.Ive had it running for a week now without any issues or complaints. My system score had previously been a 5.9, and that due to the hard drive I replaced. Not bad per se, just not ideal for the demands of pro audio recording. Now, with the Samsung SSD, the overall score has bumped up to a 6.8. The Samsung SSD has the highest individual score of all components. Only the graphics card is not maxed on its score, but then Im not playing graphicsintense video games.Overall, Id recommend getting this drive. Just dont despair if you run into the same issue I did with the cloning software. Samsungs site couldve been a little more thorough and helpful in troubleshooting, but I found a solution and the drive is so far living up to expectations.Do make sure to get yourself an appropriate bracket if youre going to be installing in a desktop, as the drive is physically small and wont fit without a bracket.

This SSD is amazing. I have 3 of them in use and have nothing negative to say. The computers are lightning fast and have had no issues whatsoever. Even on a SATA 2 interface this drive makes a huge difference in speed and boot times. The supplied software increases the speed and reliability even more. It also contains simple cloning software that works perfectly. Only drawback is that you will need a DVD drive to use the cloning software. The 5 year warranty is a plus as well. Be sure you retrieve the part numbers from the drive before installation and register the drive with Samsung.

The read and write speeds on these drives are good. We upgraded all of our office desktop computers and laptops with solid state hard drives. The response on performance has been overwhelmingly positive. End user systems boot up in 10 seconds. It has made a big difference to end user productivity having this kind of performance. Let me tell you, there is a difference in solid state hard drives and Samsung is among the best in the business. This is all that I buy and have not regretted it for a minute.

Some reviews have said windows 7 clean install will not recognize the drive. It will… you have to select New on the install window when you are selecting the drive for windows to install on so it will format the drive as needed. Ive tested a few of the drives for speed. depending on your processor they perform near or at the speed advertised when using the rapid boost option in the Samsung software. FYI you dont need to use the Samsung software in win 7 or higher, however you can install the software, then optimize the drive then uninstall the software and it will remain as optimized excluding the rapid boost. I run a PRO pair in raid 0 and have a third EVO as a ghost backup drive I connect with a USB adapter. Tip for the migration… Be sure to disable your antivirus and make sure your windows updates are current prior to doing the migration. Quarantined sections of the disk can run into problems migrating and windows updates can mess with the OS if it is trying to migrate system files while they are set up for an update that is going in on the next shutdown.

I received my order only a few days after buying it. The packaging could of been better because I only received brown paper in box that was clearly too big for the product. It came in the original packaging as advertised. I bought the SSD to replace my old 120GB Kingston SSD that I got about 45 years ago at a similar price. Im probably only going to use it to run the operating system. But due to the fact that its running at about 14 to 13 capacity it will probably last a really long time, because it will have plenty of spare NAND flash to act as a buffer. I now believe that I dont need another system SSD for a very long time. The installation and migration could of gone a lot smoother. Be sure to update the migration software otherwise it wont work. And once it is migrated go into disk management and fiddle with that until you get it working and wipe the old drive.

I purchased this SSD as an upgrade for my Late2011 Unibody Macbook Pro i5. Installation Hardware installation was a breeze, taking about 20 minutes of time. Software installation was also a breeze using Time Machine and my external drive, utilizing my Firewire 800 port. Software installation took about 2.5 hours. Functionality Overall the function of this drive when used in my older intelbased mac is phenomenal. The boot up time is significantly reduced, as is the application and documents load time.Overall Overall, I would highly recommend this drive to anyone looking to upgrade their Macbook.

I love me gear s. Problem is I cant power it on anymore due to the absolutely terrible design of the charger. The first one that came new in box broke in 5 months, the little clips that hold on the charger break off after daily use. I returned it to Verizon and they helped me out by giving me a new one even though they said it was not their issue. So here I am a few months in again, out of warranty by a few weeks and it broke again same issue Contacted samsung and they want me to mail the whole watch and charger back so they can repair it which they will no doubt charge me for. Unreal so disappointed and upset. Now in order to use my watch I have to shell out 20 dollars to buy a new charger, all because no one used their head when designing this thing. Ughhh. Very aggravated, I own all samsung products the level phones note 5 10 inch tablet the watch. That may be changing very soon.

After upgrading from a hybrid drive, also 1TB, Ive booted into Win10 its 2017 in under 8 seconds compared to 17 with the hybrid. Programs fully open in under 9 seconds Adobe products anybody Tested the hard drive on constantupdating sites such as Twitter, Facebook and other news sites, there was where I noticed some weaknesses. Using Chrome, it would stutter or hang about half a second, especially with an active program running in the background I was running defrag on my new old hybrid slave drive. Moving cache folder to slave drive solved the stuttering issue. I have an ASUS ROG G751J computer so an SSD upgrade just made my beast, beastier. Heat and mechanical vibes are no longer issues. I had a Crucial 256gb before this. While the performance differences between the two are just a blink of an eye, the price on the other hand is night and day. Samsung is doing something right with customers here. at 1TB and hovering below 400 new, Samsung is king right now of the SSD market. I installed a 250GB as a boot drive in my laptop. I thought it would make it boot a little faster since the hdd was the slowest component on my i7 laptop. I was so surprised with how much difference it made It boots in a few seconds , and it is definitely noticeable in just about every thing I do It wasnt slow befor but now its like a new gaming computer The software makes a huge difference as well. It not only helps migrate from my old hdd, it optimizes the computer after the move and doubles the performance yet again I didnt realize how beneficial the migration software was until I installed a cheaper brand ssd in my Moms computer it took much longer with a faster result with ssd vs hdd but not nearly as much of a difference as the Samsung SSD. I saved some money up front but it took me so much longer and a disappointing result I would have been happier buying a smaller Samsung ssd with the great software Im still messing around with my Moms computer trying to get it close to my computer with the Samsung ssd Save yourself a headache and save up a little more and get the Samsung or just go with one size down and put your big files on your second drive. You cant go wrong with Samsung. They didnt pay me to say any of this.

I have been building computers for over 15 years, and have used many brands of HDs. I remember when SSDs first came out on the consumer market . Now the price and reliability are vary good compared to the earlier SSDs. Another manf. has been the industry leader for many years and always been my favorite brand for HDs but they have fallen behind and are just now entering the SSD market. I have used a couple of the leading names in computer parts SSDs and they have worked well. But after installing a Samsung EVO 850 drive, and using it a few days I am now a convert. Have upgraded all my computers 2 laptops, 2 PCs to Samsung SSDs from prior HDDs. Startup time is amazingly quick, and they run significantly cooler than the old harddrives which is greatly appreciated in the laptops. So much cooler, that laptop fans take significantly longer before they turn on, and then fans turn off after running only a short time . . . testament to how much cooler these SSDs run. In the PCs, they are used as OS drives, while I still retain a couple internal HDDs for mass storage within the case. After converting first laptop to SSD and being overwhelmed with how quick and well it worked there, I purchased Samsung 850 EVOs for all my other units. Absolutely best upgrade investment one could make in their computer.

Whether youre using a computer that old like the one that I have from 2010 or building a new Skylake system even though theyre touting PCIe SSD support A LOT, this SSD is the best choice for most people. At first, I was concerned that I might be using the SSD too much that I could wear it out before the fiveyear warranty is up…but since then, it has dropped down to much more acceptable levels. The endurance level is so high youd be writing to the SSD 80GBday every day to reach the 150TB endurance rating in five years Most people like me dont write to the SSD 80GBday I used up roughly twice as much in the first day to install the OS and the applications, but I think thats the only time youll be doing such a lot of writes in one day, so the 850 EVO should be fine for most users despite the fact weve got faster SSDs, such as the 850 PRO and Intels 750, at a much higher price while, in my opinion, doesnt accelerate as much in turning on the computer, using everyday applications and turning off the computer it would only benefit in contentcreating applications such as Adobes Creative Suite of programs. Even when Im using BitTorrent when my computer is idle, the SSD doesnt write very much Right now, my total amount of data written to the SSD is less than the 80GB daily average. My boot times for my computer, though, were roughly the same as without SSD or marginally better, but I think its because I have too much hard drives connected, and it may be because of the older platform. Overall, this is the upgrade Ive been waiting for way too long. Ive been using the 840 EVO SSD on my laptop, and it changed how I used my laptop, so why not my desktop computer Ive been really wanting this SSD for months, despite the age of my computer, and finally I am proud to be a very highly satisfied customer of the 850 EVO. Highly recommended, whether youre tired of using an HDD as an OS drive and need the extra kick of responsiveness of an SSD, or building your next dream computer build. I used Samsungs Data Migration software to setup my SSD and transfer data from my WD1002FAEX hard drive. From reading the commentscomplaints about Samsungs Data Migration software, I fully expected to encounter problems. Nope it worked flawlessly, no runs, no hits, no errors. For those who have complained about this software freezing, stopping, or failing to complete. In some cases, you may have been a bit impatient with the software doing its thing. I watched the process for awhile, and noted it appear to stop. I just relaxed, walked away and let it do what it was designed to do, and it did. To get the max performance out of this SSD, use the RAPID mode. My PC took 16 seconds from the appearance of the ASUS BIO screen to reach the Windows Logon screen. But, I didnt install this SSD to see how fast I could boot up my system. I have large MS Outlook PST databases, and occasionally run the compaction process to improve performance. With a standard hard drive, this could take up to four or more minutes, depending on the condition of the database. With my Samsung SSD About 4 6 seconds. My games Watchdogs, Metro 2033, Far Cry 3, Dishonored all load and perform noticeably faster. UPDATE of a previous review I left in June this is worth reading, folks I was pretty pleased with the jump in performance I received after installing this drive, but was puzzled by the Samsung Magicians Performance Benchmarks figures Random ReadWrite 19432392231 Sequential ReadWrite 64665244 Now, Im technically savvy enough to know that these figures were bogus, and I planned to look at this issue later. THEN after a month, for whatever reason, my Windows 7 Update file became seriously corrupted no, I dont blame my Samsung drive. I could no longer install any additional Windows updates. With the Windows 10 upgrade coming, I ended up working with Microsofts Tier 1 Tier 2 Support over a three day period to resolve the issue. After several attempts, they eventually downloaded an entire new copy of Windows 7 Ultimate for me to reinstall. The installation went fine, I was able to install all of the new Windows 7 updates, and all was well And then it got interesting. Samsung Magicians Performance Benchmark decided it was going to give me TRUE performance figures, as follows Random ReadWrite 369391 Sequential ReadWrite 6556446905 Ouch Way too slow I repeatedly went through every possible system setting that I could change to increase performance, but I could barely get the performance up to 403378 on the randomsequential ReadWrite. Something was wrong, because this drive can do so much better performancewise, I have SATA III ports, and I used a new, top rated OKGEAR GC18AUBM12 SATA III cable from Newegg I was thinking about calling Samsung Support, but before I did that, I decided to verify I had my SATA connection in the right port per the ASUS mobo manual. After much reading of reviews, decided on the 850 EVO for capacityprice. Installation was accomplished via a 3.5 adapter bought separately and went smoothly. The sata and power cables hung a little low in the bay without the adapter. Also installed a 1TB Seagate Firecuda for file storage, etc. Loaded Windows 7 on the EVO and the speed increase in the sys op load was tremendous. Other loaded program performances are also noticeably quicker and consistent. The accompanying Magician software was 4.5 Im installing 5.0 now. The 5 year warranty is also nice as most other SSDs run from 1 year to 3 or so. After using Samsung cell phones for years without problems I am hoping this new SSD drive will reflect the same commitment to quality.

I have had this drive for almost one year. Since day one this drive has been a little flakey, occasionally not starting up. My laptop would give an error saying no boot device present. No hard drive found Power cycling would bring it back. Now these start up failures are becoming more frequent and have probably reached the 5050 point, and trending towards total failure.I am going to RMA it before it fails to start up at all.Sorry to say I will not ever really trust the replacement as I really do not use my laptop that often and I doubt even one terabyte of data has actually been transferred on and off this drive.I do not recommend buying these drives or any in the EVO series as they all probably suffer the same reliability issue.

After trying the Crucial 1 TB SSD ive been sold on them ever since. Insanely fast compared to platter HDs and even hybrids. My quibble with the Crucial is it is SUPPOSED to be 1 tb capacity but only shows 698 GB capacity 300 gb lost is not a minor thing…it might have been taken over by the reserve partition or something like that but, this irked me enough to want to try another brand. As always, installation has the possibility to be a headache but, the enclosed DVD that came with the drive, did all the work. I dont think the program cares what brand or type you use as source disk, there is no going to their site and entering some code just so you can download and use your own cloning program for your own disk, no codes to enter and nothing to download. Simple install of the cloning program, then you tell it to clone your drive and the program does the rest. It will not shut off your computer automatically as the Crucial drive program does so you have to check the screen for the notice that tells you to shut off your computer now. I cloned using a Crucial solid state drive as source disk, and i timed it at a half hour start to finish. Id guess a platter type source drive will take longer but I dont really know. Anyway when it tells you shut off the computer, then restart to boot to your new drive and you are done. No muss, no fuss, easy. And the capacity of this Samsung is well over 900 GB they say when they make the chips they cant pick exactly how big it will come out, the chips are tested and the ones close to the desired capacity are what go into the drive. Anyway, this solid state drive is well worth it the speed of these has spoiled me, the same way cable internet spoiled you for modems forevermore after you used it…I dont even want to bother using any platter type drive now since the slower response would drive me mad. When I used a hybrid drive as my main hard drive, boot time was over 2.5 minutes…you know the kind, where you turn on the computer and then go shave or something while it comes on Now with a solid state drive its less then 30 seconds, doing a restart takes maybe 40 seconds. Once you go solid state, theres no going back…

I bought a new laptop for work, I am an EMT working in NYC. I noticed that whenever I was using my laptop while the vehicle was in motion the system will freeze or stutter. I had it once I received a notification telling me some of the files in my system were corrupted. That is when I bought this SSD. In less than 30 minutes I was using my laptop without any issues. The provided software was really easy to use. Migrating my entire system only took a few minutes. I no longer get any stuttering or freezing when I am using the laptop while the ambulance is in motion. My system now Loads much faster and when I open my monitor its instantly on. An added bonus is I no longer hear the sounds the HDD makes when it starts up which was actually louder than my the laptops fan.

I bought a desktop tower in September 2012. It had a 2GB HDD and 10GB of RAM. It has always been extremely reliable and fast compared to my previous system anyway. But some people arent always satisfied with the status quo, eh So, among several tweaks in the past nearly 4 years I have upgraded to 16GB of RAM, added a 1TB drive in the swap bay, added a second monitor, blah blah blah.I was never convinced my boot disk was doing me justice. I have a boatload of goodies loading at boot time so I just lived with waiting nearly 23 minutes for booting to complete. A few months ago I discovered it was actually a SATA II disk, and being plugged into my only SATA III port wasnt much of a treat. My Windows 7 Windows Experience Index assessment ALWAYS rated disk performance at 5.9 lowest of all the categories. The highest ratings were 7.7 thanks to an i73770 Quad Core processor. So, I bought a 2TB SSHD disk. It was SATA III and the WEI was still 5.9. That disk is now my data disk with a dedicated partition for the page file, and two rather large data partitions and the original 2TB drive is in an external USB enclosure.Anyway, I remained obtuse about getting an SSD. To be honest, my biggest concern about changing my boot disk was its size and a 1 or 2 TB SSD was just not something I felt was necessary. After all, my original 2TB disk was only using 257ish GBs when I cloned it to the new 2TB SSHD. So I bought a new 1TB SSHD, thinking THAT would be all I needed for boot time and overall performance bliss. It wasnt. Still multiminute booting. Still a 5.9 WEI rating. For the record, everything I am writing about with regard to changing my boot disk was done with Windows 7s built in Backup and Restore functions. As I changed from the 2TB SSHD to the 1TB SSHD, it was necessary that the C partition be shrunk to under 1TB so as to accommodate the 18GB Recovery partition and the 100MB System Reserved partition. Windows built in imaging tool takes care of those quite well, but when writing a backed up image to a new drive, you must make sure everything will fit. The restore function will create the partitions exactly as copied in the image, so if everything in the image takes up less space on a new drive there will be unallocated space after the C partition, which can come in handy for over provisioning.Moving on, the new 1TB SSHD did not make much difference. My system had always taken a couple of minutes to boot and I attributed it to all the stuff I have loading at startup. Even though I was never actually dissatisfied with my computers performance after it got going I was still curious about getting super fast boot time with an SSD.Curious enough that I decided to move all the My folders off the C drive. I chose to move all the folders in my User directory that had a Location tab in their Properties box. They are, alphabetically Contacts Desktop Downloads Favorites, Links. My Documents, My Music. My Pictures, My Videos and Saved Games. I wasnt inclined to have some on C and some elsewhere. This was done on 72416 and Ive had no issues at all.My initial reason to move this data was to reduce the amount of data in C so that an image would be as small as possible, thus making the purchase of a smaller SSD justifiable. I know for what I spent on replacing the original 2TB drive I could have easily gotten at least a 500GB SSD. Well, lets just say I have plenty of external storage. Now, after moving my user data NOT my user profile and NOT the App Data the amount of data on the C drive was about 75GB. What After nearly 4 years of running Windows 7, the OS and installed programs and app data was 75GB Why had I run my system on a 2TB disk all this time Live and learn, I suppose. So here I was with 75GB of necessary info on a 1TB drive. Obviously I would have to shrink the C partition if there was to be any chance of writing an image that would fit on a much smaller SSD.My first thoughts were of maybe going with a 120GB since 75GB was all I needed for a running system. But research told me SSDs need space to manage themselves, and I knew 120GB advertised would not be 120GB usable. So it seemed like a safe bet to zero in on 250BG models. With as many positive reviews as there are on Samsungs EVO line, it became a done deal in my mind. Thus, this review. For informational purposes, the Shrink Volume function in Disk Management isnt always going to get you where you want to be, but with some help, it can. I used Auslogics Disk Defrag AND PerfectDisk to finally reach the desired size of the image that would be used to create the C partition on my new SSD. PerfectDisk has a lot of options and it wasnt exactly intuitive but I did a couple of boot time defrags with the Prep For Shrink option and then I let it run overnight with what I believe was the Consolidate Free Space function. I think I also checked the option somewhere that says Aggressively Consolidate Free Space so I might be able to shrink to a very manageable image size. For what its worth, even if you see a defragmenters map of files showing unmovable files the bane of Shrink Volume happiness, go ahead and start the Shrink Volume process in Disk Management. It very well might move some system files during the actual shrink process. It will always show you what size it can shrink to without changing anything. I can assure you I was shocked when I finally saw I could shrink my C volume to 74.4GB. I wrote that image immediately. And so, my system is now booting in under 30 seconds It still loads bunches of things so I am not worried at all that it COULD be faster. By the way, I count the boot time from the moment second the BIOSBoot Options screen disappears since its duration can be set by us humans. Oh, and the Windows Experience Index rating for disk performance, which was 5.9 since the first day I ran it in 2012 its now 7.9 higher than the 7.7 the processor and RAM always get. WooHoo I love this thingLastly to make a really long review even longer whatever you do when you decide you want a new boot disk create a system image of the system as it exists BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING just to be safe. And if you reach points where you can make an even smaller image do it. Just try to have a couple of different drives to write your images to. Good luck

If you installed Windows 7 in IDE mode and realize you actually needed AHCI mode for better SSD performance, you can fix this issue easily. You cant just go into the Bios during windows 7 boot up or your OS will crash. The following are instructions on how I corrected my IDE to AHCI 1 Startup Regedit 2 Open HKEYLOCALMACHINE SYSTEM CurrentControlset Services 3 Open msahci 4 In the right pane, left click on start then right click and select Modify 5 In the value data field enter 0 and click OK. 6 exit Regedit 7 Reboot your system and enter your BIOS hold Delete key while rebooting 8 In the BIOS select Integrated Peripherals and Onchip PATASATA Devices. 9 Change SATA Mode to AHCI from IDE 10 Save and exit BIOS, and boot into Windows 7. The OS will recognize AHCI and install the devices. Your system will now need one more reboot, then youll have the screaming SSD youve always wanted.

I didnt use their data transfer software so I dont know how that is. I used Acronis True Image for this and was able to backup only my Windows and EFI partitions, then restore them to the new SSD. No issues. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that my HP desktop machine has a 2.5 drive mount so I didnt need an adapter kit. Nice Samsung Magician software is very helpful but not really necessary if you dont use Windows. The real magic is in the drive, which would be recognized by any current operating system that supports SSDs. It helped me best configure Windows to maximize the performance of the drive. After turning on RAPID mode in Samsung Magician, the benchmark numbers went up but it was already amazingly fast. Logging into Windows though and not having to wait for the apps in the tray antivirus, OneDrive, etc. to get going and hear the HDD chattering while they do… Priceless. Oh look, theyre loaded and ready to go. Smiles…

149.99 was the Black Friday deal. That is still a good amount of coin to spend on a hard drive. I wish these would come down a little more on the price. Another thing I noticed is that these do not come with a SATA cable or a tray to mount your drive in your desktop. If you have a custom built PC that is within 5 years old, you will most likely have a tray that fits these SSD drives. Mine luckily did. I did not have to buy one. I also had a few SATA cables laying around that I always keep on hand. But for some of you, that may be a different story. If you buy this drive and do not have any spare SATA cables laying around, be sure to add one to your order along with this drive. So that when you receive your drive and open the box, you are not disappointed when you do not see a SATA cable and realize you cannot do the swap till you get a cable. For 149.99 sale price, it should come with a SATA cable. That was a sale price. Retail is over 200. Come on Samsung, at least put a cable in the box. Its a 1 part. I like Samsung products but thought that was a little cheap on their end to not include one.

It took me a while to select an SSD, as I had never bought one before. I did a moderate amount of research and charts I saw showed the performance of the Samsung EVO series to be well out in front of other SSDs. The price was reasonable, too. Its SATA 3 compatible super fast, although my motherboard only supports SATA 2. I upgraded from a standard 5400 rpm drive. So far It works great. The SSD Magician software CD it comes with is really cool too… it helps you really tune your SSD for maximum performance. The following has nothing to do with this SSD, but is just a note to anyone who is cloning a drive I have cloned many drives in the past without any problems. I had an issue this time, though. I KNEW I was doing everything right in Disk Management, but after 2 days of trying, I could not get this drive to initialize. I was just at the point of giving up and sending the drive back, when I thought Id try plugging the drive into a different USB port on my computer. SUDDENLY, I was able to initialize the drive and the rest of the process went smoothly. So, try to remember that if you have any problems.

So the SSDs from the T5 Portable are certainly the same physically as the 850 EVO. They behave the same in terms of read sped and write speed, they have the same capacity I was able to add two to an existing RAID array. They are for the most part the same thing. Except when theyre not. There is a subtle difference, in that the T5 Portable drives have a different firmware. Samsung Magician wont update them, or otherwise support them. Now thats not really a big issue for me in my use case as mentioned, theyre part of a RAID array, and after adding them to the array, I cant remove them to update the firmware. And Im not going to use the make it even faster features of Samsung Magician basically a better cache BUT if youre a Samsung SSD Fan who is accustomed to using Samsungs tooling, this could be a disappointment.

I bought this SSD after alot of time researching and reading reviews from a lot of different websites. I am not going to go in detail of why this SSD is better than the competition for the sake of keep this review relevant to potential users. The SSD arrived on time like expected from Mindfactory and I was able to install it without any issues. Now it was time to boot up the PC. I booted the PC thinking something is going to go wrong with it. Everything seemed to work. I did have to update couple of drivers using driver navigator because they didnt copy over only because they were being used at the time of cloning the HDD. I should mention that my boot time was not faster than my existing boot time, which i supposed had something to do with the fact i have a relatively decent HDD installed. Now I booted Far Cry 4 main reason for upgrading to SSD and the load times were considerably faster. it loaded about 60 faster then my HDD would load these games. I retested it with Advanced Warfare and same results. This definitely a upgrade any gamer should make.

This is not my first party, but it is the first time Ive had two identical drives turn out DOA like this. It makes me fear for the durabilitylongevity of the 500GB 850 EVO I have installed in my laptop. So far, its been perking along without a hitch but now I half expect it to fail while Im still in the middle of writing this. A similarsized drive of another brand is so far working reliably in my wifes laptop. To anyone from Samsung who may actually read this Que pasa Could an agent from the North have slipped across the border and infiltratedsabotaged your company Could you have all or part of a batch that slipped through QC in spite of having problems Hint It would cost less to recall the entire batch than to lose business to ill will resulting from apparent reliance on end users to do field testing. A great pity, this, because Ive always liked Samsung products. Now, however, its Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times Sorry, but thats not about to happen even I am capable of learning.

I was sceptical of buying a drive off of ebay, but I took a chance. It came very well packaged. It came fast. It installed perfectly. Note that on some machines Lenova as an example there is a foil sheet of sorts that wrap around the plug end of the hard drive to be replaced. I first thought of forgetting about it, but recalling my days as an Electrical Engineer at Motorola, I know how RF spray and noise can be a killer. I EASILY peeled off this foil, then put the bracket around the SSD, and placed the foil precisely where it was before. Done and dusted. The drive has made a hugh difference in the performance of an otherwise slow laptop. I used the data migration tool from Samsung, and it worked. Almost perfecty, 1 or 2 glitches after the laptop came came up. You might seek out Youtube videos on how to use the 2 software tools. If like me, your machine has no CD, external ones are cheap. You can try and download these programs from Samsung.

I purchased this HD like 3 months ago. Installed windows 7 fine onto the drive. First problem was that I kept getting errors when trying to transfer huge files over from my external hd onto this ssd driveblue screen of death. I ended up just ignoring transfering files and using the computer as a music production computer. Last week working on music I kept getting blue screen of death errors again. Could not finish any track or anything. I decided to go ahead and reinstall windows once again. Installed windows 7 again, same problem with transferring large files from external. I reformatted and installed windows a 3rd time. This time I was able to transfer large files from my external ok. Figured finally solved the problem. Now today, when installing all my music programs again, blue screen of death and cant even log into safe mode without blue screening or windows repair without blue screening. Im done with this hard drive and any Samsung ssd drive hard drive ever again.

So, I went from a Western Digital 7200 rpm 1 TB drive to a 1 TB SSD. I did not use the included data migration software. Instead I used a one to one hard drive cloning box. No problems at all after copying. Installed into my PC and was up and running with one error message but nothing serious, just a volume size difference thing quickly resolved by the OS. First boot was very fast. Installed the magician software and made a few tweaks and all was great. I must say that I was surprised at how well the software worked. As I said earlier I did not use the data migration software so I cant say how it works. Others have said it works well and I dont doubt it, It was just easier for me to clone the drive outside the PC. As for performance it is noticeably faster. With that said, I guess I was so caught up in the hype that I expected lightning fast. Boot up is about a third of the time it used to be and that is great. However after boot up, I have not yet seen the blazing increase in speed in my machine. Programs do open faster but my machine was pretty quick to begin with. Please dont misunderstand, this is a very fast drive, my only question is was it worth 400 bucks for the increased boot speed. Only time will tell how much faster my system is after a few weeks of use. Overall it is fast, stable and would recommend this drive to anyone thinking about an SSD.

My understanding of SSDs is they are not as prone to failure compared to HDDs since there are no moving parts. All of my HDDs have far outlasted this SSD and generally you start to see when a HDD is going to fail based on my experience. When this SSD failed there was no indication of an impending failure only experience a lack of response followed by a reboot. My computer would not progress past the POST which I assumed was due to a motherboard or RAM failure. Wrong assumption, the failure to complete POST was due to the malfunctioning boot drive SSD and resulted in spending 1000 to replace motherboard and CPU which also would not complete POST using the dead SSD. Not sure if this is a anomaly or an indication of poor quality by Samsung, irregardless I will not purchase another Samsung SSD.

I am writing this review on the Gear S Charging Cradle developed by Samsung to complement the Gear S Watch. Where as the watch is a nice product, the charging cradle has two small clips at each end of the cradle which attach to the watch during charging. I bought my watch l4 months ago, and I am very happy with it. However the charging cradle small clips which snap into place with the watch while charging have a tendency to break at the very tip where it attaches to the watch. I have replaced the charging cradle 3 times because the very tip of the plastic clip has broken. I would like to suggest to Samsung Charging Cable designers to develop a more durable product or a different product with a totally different material. It would be very nice if Samsung could replace all of these charging cradles at no charge given that there is in fact a design flaw.

In relative seriousness, I currently have this drive attached to an MSI z97a gaming 7 motherboard paired to an i54690, complimented by 8gb of questionable yet stable Avexir ddr3 clocked at 1866mhz. After enabling both the MSI rapid boot feature and Samsung rapid mode, this particular conglomeration of parts is able to present me with a Windows 10 desktop within fewer than 7 seconds of pressing the power button. This seems outrageous, but time after time it never ceases to impress friends and loved ones. I might also mention that due to the advancements in technology that allow m.2 to be possible, there is nary a data cable in sight. In addition, the modular power supply has only a 24 pin, 8pin atx, and 6pin graphics power attached. I have been building personal computing machines from as far back as the 8086 era, and never before have I seen so few wires in a system utterly astounding M.2 is the future of simplifying the hardware experience.

I bought this for my ASUS ROG G751JL Notebook to replace the stock HGST 1TB HDD it came with new. I tried to use Acronis 2016 to clone my original drive to the 850 EVO installed in the second bay of the notebook. The cloning reported success. And the system would boot to the 850 EVO, but it would then not respond past the login screen. I feared it may be incompatible. But then I installed the accompanying One Stop Install Navigator software and, after updating it to the latest version, which it wanted to do itself anyway, used it to clone from my stock HGST drive, to the 850 EVO via a connection using a Vantek NexStar dual USB 3.0 dock. With the HGST in its original position in the G7510JL, and the 850 EVO in the dock, and connected via USB 3.0 to the Notebook, the Navigator software recognized both drives and the cloning process completed successfully. I then removed the original HGST drive, and replaced it with the 850 EVO, and it booted up like a champ. Ive used SSD drives before. If you havent used one for your C drive, you are in for a shock. It is blazingly fast. My boot up time went from minutes to a few seconds. Im a software developer and use Visual Studio a lot. It took minutes to load one instance of Visual Studio with the HDD I use a ton of addins. And that is with 32 GB of RAM. Purely a hard drive bottleneck issue. It now takes 13 seconds for one instance to load. And as you can imagine from that, everything else is now uber fast. The drive itself is a bit pricey. But hey. Its 1TB. Ive had several SSD drives in the past. All but one eventually failed fairly quickly. My recommendation is, if you rely on you machine as much as I do, like, for a living, and you want crazy fast speed, then go for the 850 EVO or some equivalent. But, back up your drive. Your system is only as good as your last backup.

Ive been using my Samsung 850 EVO 1TB SSD for a few months now and I have to say, it has performed very well. It was very simple to install since its a direct replacement to a traditional HDD. The overall speed of my system increased, although, the only time its apparent is during a bootup. I havent had any problems with the reliability. It truly operates just like a mechanical harddrive. In addition to all of that, this thing doesnt make any noise at all and it barely generates any heat.Overall, Im very happy with this upgrade. I was a bit apprehensive at first of switching from a mechanical HDD to a total digital SSD, but now that Ive had it for a while, Im glad I made that switch.

I purchased a Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 520MBs Internal Solid State Drive MZ75E500 yesterday and I am extremely pleased with the unit. I had recently updated my Lenovo U410 laptop from Windows 8.1 to 10, and found that it seemed to slow down a bit despite the fact that the computer has an i7 processor. To improve performance, I decided to give SSD a try. I did some research and selected the Samsung, and decided to go with the cloning of the HDD onto the SSD rather than doing a complete reinstall of Windows 10 all my apps. I was pleased that Samsung included software to do the migration, but was disappointed that the USB cable connector illustrated in the manual was not included in the box. Luckily I have a SATA drive caddy. My next disappointment was to find that the Samsung migration software failed a couple of minutes into the process. Some online searching found that the supplied software doesnt work with Windows 10, and I couldnt find a new version on the Samsung website. I did find free software by EaseUS to do the cloning and it worked well, except that it would not allow me to set the drive partitions the way I wanted. Note, before cloning, I had to use Windows Disk Management to set Simple volumes and format them on the SSD. It took about 3 hours for the cloning to complete. I then swapped the Samsung SSD into the laptop and turned it on. It worked perfectly and was amazing how fast the system was up and running about 15 seconds, as opposed to 45 seconds with the original Western Digital 7500 RPM HDD. The next step was to fix the drive partitions. Unfortunately the disk management software in Windows 10 only allows merging unallocated space in partitions that are adjacent, so I looked around and found a free version of MiniTool Software. It worked exactly as Id hoped, allowing me to resize the partitions just the way I wanted. Overall, the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB is a great piece of hardware and I have absolutely no buyers regret, despite the fact that there are lower priced options available. I was disappointed with the software not being Windows 10 compatible and the cable illustrated in the manual not being included. That did waste a lot of my time. The steps I went through may be a bit beyond the technical comfort zone of some users.

This solid state drive was an upgrade from a 5400 RPM hard drive. The change in speed was dramatic and immediate. Hard drive intensive tasks like full system scans that used to take 15 minutes now take under five minutes. File searches are almost instantaneous. Even though my HP Envy was equipped with a Core i7 and 16 GB of RAM, I found virtual machines to run slowly, but that has all changed now. Some may miss the hard drive clicking noise, but I will not. I was able to disable the fall sensor software on the computer, as it is no longer needed. A laptop fall will no longer threaten all my data. There has also been a minor boost to battery power as there is no longer a hard drive that needs to be kept spinning, but the change is far from dramatic. I paid around 100 under the market price and received just a hard drive with no instruction manuals or cables, which was perfect for a laptop installation. I highly recommend this product if you can find a good price.

The EVO 860 series SSD has been as reliable as my favorite EVO 850 series. The 850 series never let me down on a clone using Samsungs Data Migration software. The 860 is pretty good, I had two fail the migration, which isnt a big deal for me, Im 5050 with data migration or a complete rebuild. With 30 of these in the small company I used to work for and all of my personal laptops, we have never had an EVO go down. I still only buy the Samsung EVO 860 as a replacement for laptops and desktops alike. The boot times are quick, fast response with minimal power usage.

Advice from experience Buy this SSD, in any capacity. You simply cannot get more bang for your buck in performance with either the EVO or the PRO. Lightyears ahead of the competition. Magician canwill improve the performance of your SSD phenomenally, but install it and use it with care. Do these things first… 1 Read the manual. The quidproquos of Dos and DoNOTs take up two full pages. 2 With this in mind set up your BIOSUEFI 3 Install the OS, any necessarymissing drivers for your mobo and hardware, and only the most important user software and antivirus you NEED to run flawlessly on your new build. 4 Update EVERYTHING except KB3004394. Windows has pulled this update on all WIN7 and Server 2008 machines, but users it also conflicts with software on WIN8 machines. If you have this update installed, uninstall and HIDE it, or the Sorcerer will freeze your new build Dont ask how I know this. 5 Back up any user data you cannot lose. 6 CREATE A RESTORE POINT Unless you find the words Refresh and Restore strangely comforting. 7 Install Magician 8 Try out one feature at a time, TEST the feature, and create a RESTORE point after each successful feature. 9 Once you have a stable machine with the Magician features you like, install the rest of your software, create restore points, and enjoy the performance. Samsung Magician works flawlessly for most users, but if your UEFI, your Windows updates, your drivers, Magician options, or some other part of your configuration is not to Samsungs liking, you may experience a frozen OS, a frozen SSD and will need to resort to the previous configuration. OS optimization only works on one drive. DO NOT apply it to more than one, or you will crash both Magician and the system. RAPID is an excellent performance enhancement feature, but it does not play well with some IRST drivers which perform some of the same enhancements as Samsung RAPID. Read the manual and install only compatible IRST drivers. Secure Data has three modes, and only uses ONE mode DO NOT activate more than one Not only will Magician crash, it will crash your new build and you will need to revert to your Restore Point. Samsung is actively working on compatibility issues esp with RAPID and listens to the forums for feedback, but they have consistently had issues since 2011. Dont hold your breath. Install. Update. Backup. and Restore The most lucky and persistent users are able to make Magician work for them, but if you have problems, you will spend time looking for technical answers on the forums. Good luck

I am a Microsoft Certified IT and have installed 6 of these so far in clients systems. Even with low memory or slow processors, these drives breathe remarkable life into whatever theyre installed in. Ive brought boot times from 3 minutes to 30 seconds with these babies, in systems at least 10 years old. Faster than most new systems these days. Samsung makes the best in my opinion and come with a generous warranty. Consider one of these if your computer is slow and youd like to avoid purchasing a new one. With the right equipment you can even clone your hard drive over and keep everything exactly how you had it just swap the drive. Worth every penny. Highly recommended.

I have read so many reviews regarding Samsungs class leading performance, so many reviews that I wondered if it was just everyone piling on the bandwagon, and not actual real world results. I say this due to so many people who love to run benchmarks over and over again, constantly tweaking their setups until until they reach some rarefied, unrepeatable number. A number that bears little resemblance to consistent, day to day performance. After Samsung released the new 850 series, at an even lower price then the highly regarded 840 series, I was even more hesitant that the NEW version could deliver the same high level of performance . Im happy to report that id truly does deliver the performance, and at a bargain price My original SSD purchase was just a few months back 9232014 from a highly regarded memory maker. It is a good performing SSD, and was roughly 20 less in price then the 840 series at that time. The trade off being that it didnt match the 840s performance, and I had to settle for that lesser performance to save a few bucks. Unfortunately, the zippy performance began to slow down a bit. Still decent, but even less then what I had originally bargained for. ENTER the 850 EVO The same class leading performance, but at an even lower price then before So low that I paid even less for the 850 EVO, then I paid for my earlier SSD After spending some time with the new 850 EVO, I can say that I have never before experienced the speed and convenience that SAMSUNG has delivered. Real world performance that matches the promised speeds, and with the MAGICIAN software, a simple and easy to understand users guide that makes it so effortless to achieve the best possible performance. Setup was even easier then before with SAMSUNGs DATA MIGRATION Software . My earlier SSD setup used the ACRONIS software which worked well enough. But the Samsung DATA Migration software was even easier to use, and I was up and running in no time at all All in all, Im happy to say that all of the buzz surrounding SAMSUNG SSDs is deserved. They truly deliver the best performance and at a bargain price to boot Couple that with the included SAMSUNG software, and you have an unbeatable combination

Wow. If you want to improve your performance on your desktop or laptop by at least 1000, buy one. Watch a video or two online to learn how to get and replace the operating system and things. Now watch your PC run from fully shutdown and shutdown mode, then press the power button and within 2 to 5 seconds of starting the entire computer to the OS desktop and ready for anything, and there are no loading times. Downloading games is ridiculously fast. Everything mind blowing. Each computer needs an SSD. You do not have to get SSD is great. Buy 128 GB or 256 GB and keep your old hard drive and use SSD to shut down the OS and save your files to the regular hard drive. I hope you will take it without limits

And it works perfectly now. much faster. No more 10 mins long windows updates and no more 23 min boot times. the system boots up in about 1520 seconds. worth the buck if you are putting off upgrading to a newer laptop and want to get a cheap and efficient makeover. highest performance vs cost ratio. experience with newegg delivery was quick and well packaged. No defects in the item. before this I got a 960 pro which has even faster speeds than the 850 series however 960 series of samsung requires an M.2 port which my laptop didnt have should have checked before ordering. So I returned it and got a full refund minus the shipping. So overall the service is good and reliable. I prefer Linux Mint 17 for its speed and features. Some of my programs require the Windows operating system. I have Windows 10 as a secondary operating system with the dualboot feature. No problems at all. It improves the speed of Windows 10 boot, and operation. Linux Mint naturally boots faster, but the 850 Evo improves the performance even more. if you are using Virtual Box, there are improvements in speed when running Windows 10 versus running Virtual Box on a standard hard drive. All the SSDs will improve your performance significantly. I dont recommend getting too hung up on the technical specs. You wont notice any difference between brands. What I like about the Samsung Evo 850 is that it has a five year warranty. By the time it is out of warranty, it will be obsolete.

The product is blazingly fast, the data migration software that clone the HDD was extremely easy to use and best of all it workedI replaced the HDD in my Samsung Series 7 Chronos laptop. While there are no instructions included for the removal and replacement of the HDD but it should be intuitively obvious if you are going to tackle the task. After removing the bottom cover, I removed the 4 screws holding the current HDDD and disconnected the SATA Cable. I then removed the mounting bracket from the HDD and put it on the SSD. Connected it and mounted it back in place and then fired it up.1st boot was good, the system recognized the SSD and the OS indicated a reboot was required. After the reboot, the system speed was amazing….. After validating everything migrated, I used the SW included on the CD, Samsung Magician, to configure the SSD for performance. After rebooting, the speed increased again and I performed the Performance test and was impressed with the read write speeds.Simple install, amazing results. I strongly recommend the product and wish the price was a bit lower but operationally, it is exceptional.

I tried to use Apples disk utility to clone my HD to the SSD. But got nothing but errors, issues and bullsht. Only thing that worked was reformatting the SSD to get it ready for use. Time Machine, also didnt help much. I was getting very frustrated with my purchase and was reading everything I could about the problems. Finally I decided to use Carbon Copy Cloner who had actually gave me issues before in the past but this time it worked perfect. Took 9 hours to clone my HD. Opened the mac, swapped it out and everything worked great Also, Amzn sells the same drive for a few bucks less, but it took 11 days to leave the factory, and 60 in shipping transit, without tracking numbers, only to finally never arrive and they said maybe its in customs but were not willing to find my package or help at all. In the end I waited 70 days to get my money back, plus 8. I was happy to have this SSD arrive in 1 day. Thank you

installing in SSD is a great way to improve the speed of your computer. I dont think the slight differences in speeds among various manufacturers is worth considering as a reason to buy. You wont see the difference. Youll have to run some sort of bench test to convince yourself. I bought the Samsung Evo for the five year warranty, not because it is slightly faster on paper. In five years it will be obsolete. No point in paying extra for the Samsung Pro drive with the 10 year warranty. It has performed flawlessly so far. I have owned it for just under a year. BTW, Samsung Magician runs perfectly on my Windows 10. Im not sure why the other reviewer is having a problem with it. I use this drive primarily with Linux Mint 17 for the improved performance and features compared to Windows 10. The drive works perfectly with a dualboot operating system.

I really like the watch. It is coupled with my Galaxy S5. The issue is in how the watch gets charged. The charger snaps onto the back of the watch. The charger has tiny hook shaped tabs molded into the plastic of its case that hook into recesses on the back of the watch. In my case, one of the little hooks broke off. That means that the watch will not snap onto the charger any more. I have temporarily worked around the problem by putting the charger in place and holding it there by closing the watchband around it and a bottle of just the right diameter to press the charger contacts against the watch contacts. Someone else, with the same problem but a different size wrist would have to find just the right size bottle to clip in. The point is that I can easily imagine that many will have the same problem. I have not treated either the watch or the charger roughly and plastic is not a good material from which to make hooks of any kind

The reason for this review is mainly for this Other thoughts section, and unfortunately, its directed at Newegg. I ordered parts for a brand new build all at once, expecting them to come from different places as Newegg has distribution centers across the US. Indeed, the tower case and a few other items started from the east coast, while these SSDs came from the west coast. Also from the west coast was some platter HDDs, CPU, and RAM. However, the SSDs came in a separate shipment from the HDDs, CPU and RAM. Rather than ship them all in one box, they came in two. I do not have an issue with this, nor would I have had an issue if they had arrived over the course of a few days. What does upset me is that they were delivered on the same day, on the same truck, but in two wildly different packages and packaging quality. The HDDs, CPU, and RAM came in a well handled box with plenty of air packaging to reduce bumps during shipping. The SSDs, however, were in a box absolutely mangled, looking as if the box had fallen out once every 100 miles from CA to UT. Whats worse is that all of the air packing had been deflated, so it was just a bunch of plastic surrounding the boxes containing the drives. To me, it seems as if Newegg warehousing was just abusing the nomovingpartness of SSDs and thew them in with air wrap that has deflated over time in order to reuse plastic and cut costs. Even more so, I would be mostly fine with all of this but the fact that I had two boxes come in different states, the one containing properly inflated wrapping and good care, having plenty of space to fit two SSDs, and the other with poor packing, just shows some deliberate packing choices on Neweggs part. The SSDs have passed all stress tests Ive thrown at them, and I still intend to run them in RAID 0, but it was disappointing to have a distributor such as Newegg, one that I love and trust, treat a package so poorly.

I had to disconnect and reconnect the drive a few times when trying to find a good mounting positioncable management. The connection board not the connections themselves if that makes sense feel a bit creakyloose. Im not concerned now that its mounted, but it was a bit nerveracking as I did fear it might break off. Never experienced this before. That aside, the Samsung EVO series is fantastic. Tons of reviews and benchmarks out there, so not much else for me to add. Although you pay a bit of a premium for Samsung products, for a few extra bucks, its well worth the piece of mind that Im getting a quality product. I recommend these drives to all my friends customers you cant go wrong.

Upgraded old Sony VAIO S Series laptop. Well worth it. Faster file transfers, less heat, less electricity, less noise, lighter weight, no moving parts. Increased daily work productivity and time savings. Turned on Samsung Magician software RAPID mode. Much faster file transfers when working with multiple memory cards and external hard drives. Must have for any computer. Cant go back to old SATA hard drives now.
