The Zoom L-20R is the portable mixer/recorder that does it all! It is a rack-mountable digital mixer that allows musicians to control their live mix right from the stage with the use of an iPad. With wireless control, 20 discrete channels, 22 tracks of recording, and six custom monitor mixes, the L-20R offers a complete solution for any venue.
Portable and Powerful
Featuring 16 mono mic/line inputs and two stereo inputs, the L-20R can handle the most demanding stages. The L-20R offers two EFX busses and each channel includes a 3-band EQ, pan controls, and compressor.

Independent Monitor Outputs
With six independent monitor outputs, the L-20R enables musicians to create their custom mix. A dedicated output enables the FOH engineer to easily switch between monitoring the main and sub-mixes.
iPad Control
With iPads, the FOH engineer and 6 musicians can control their mix from anywhere in the venue. It is compatible with all iPad Air models, iPad Mini 2 and later, iPad Pro, and iPad (2017), running iOS 10.3.3 or newer.

This is basically just like the H4n, but with the bonus of having XLR inputs that lock into place, and external gain nobs. I find that crazy useful, and the price isnt that much higher than the H4n. Pretty good buy.

Highly recommended. I primarily use this for Electronic News Gathering and music recording. It works well to extend the number of simultaneous recording tracks on my Zoom R16, and the stereo field provided by the XY capsule is mighty fine. Buy rechargeable batteries and another handful of SD cards the maximum capacity is 32GB, although this package actually includes two 2GB cards.

Ive had an H2 and an H4n, and I now own an H1 and H5. All of these units offer excellent sound, which is the name of the game, and thats that. So far, it seems the H5 has lower selfnoise than any other I own or have owned. The only feature Id like to see the manufacturers add is autooff, or sleep mode, after a userselected idle period. Ive learned to use rechargeables to save on batteries Ive drained because Ive forgotten to turn the darn things offwhich is easy enough to do when you use the recorders as often as I do and for the purposes to which I put them. Im looking forward to trying the midside mic. Could be fun.

The H5 is a very flexible recording device with extensive menus and options. I especially like its ability to use both XLR and TRS 14 input cables. It can provide phantom power or not, as you like. Recording quality is very good. Im working on a voiceover project but wanted to use my classic Shure Super 55 or RCA 77DX mics, and the H5 makes that easy. Highly recommended.

Using at band practice to record various songs. All I get to work with are words to the song and a few chords over the words. If I know the song that is ok. A lot of the songs we do are Hawaiian and the words are in Hawaiian. I am not Hawaiian . I am the keyboard player with 30 ukuleles. Now I can record at practice and take it home to play along and learn it. I dont have all the features mastered but in time I hope to master it.

The Zoom H5 is a good product. It has many useful features needed to record quality sound. It has multiple outputs you can record with. I used to have my pc on to record audio but now I can turn it off and record from the H5 and not have to deal with the extra noise of pc fans. Good investment for studio and field recording.

This recorder is excellent. I film commercials and i had switched to DSLR filming due its portableness. Because 90 of dslrs suck at audio the wonderful device is my go to audio. The body has a rubberlike finish and thats not a small thing. You hardly will get handling noise from this recorder even its hand held during recording. The pick up is better than my NTG2 shotgun mic and that NTG is also improved when plugged into the H5. CONS its called a 4channel recorder and technically that is true but not in practice. It can not be concentrated to 4 separate actors in a room. In practice you can only hone it to 3 actors. To me this makes it a 3Track Recorder. If they had a head attachment that would create 2 XLR inputs then you would have 4true tracks of dialog. Channels 34 can be separate mono tracks of dialog but one and two are always a stereo pair and does not allow for one actor being closer to channel 1 and another actor 8ft away to be closer to channel 2. Still Its worth the buy and you will not get better audio from any other recorder in its price range.

The unit is well constructed, smooth contours and I really like the protective bars over the volume pots. I used the H5 to record a live gig 4 sets 6 piece band and the batteries are still going strong. The audio playback was great, highlighted all areas where improvement could be made, this is an invaluable resource to have if you are a giging muso. I will continue to use it at all gigs I have used it at home , acousticvocal and it is perfect, I really like the overdub. Tons of effects and editing features. The 4 input recording is great . The included software, Cubase and wavelab, is a fantastic bonus

This recorder is really useful for creating an MP3 or WAV file from any sound source. The files can very easily be transferred to a computer and then used in any playing media. Quality is excellent.

Lovely little recorder gets the voices out of nowhere excellent. Unfortunately the software will not open MP3 files of 250MB message that the audio file is too large. This is a pity as files way bigger files will come off the 32GB MicroSD it is capable of taking. I have had to load other software for big files.

Second thing isnt directly related eGlobal but DHL wasnt the most convenient carrier.

This is a great recording device, which I use to create language listening texts for school. It is highly mobile, recording is easy, and the sound quality for voice tracks is excellent especially with additional mics plugged in to the XLR ports, provided youre in a quiet spot.The one thing I struggle with is the filing system, i.e. retrieving files, but that may just need more practice. The display could also use an update.

I have only tried out most of the functions but not used in a recording situation yet, but as this has the same quality build and performance as my Zoom H6s which I am hoping this will replace, then I am very confident that it will perform well, what I do really like is the 12 segment meters on each input, nice touch Zoom.

There are better recorders out there, which also have XLR inputs for professional microphones and better preamps than Zoom recorders. If youre an indie or amateur filmmaker, and also have shotgun or cardioid mics, get the Tascam DR60D. But if you need a small recorder for voice overs, event mixer recording, DSLR audio, you cant beat the Zoom H1N for 100 You can mount it on your camera and record directly to it, you can use an external microphone on a boom pole with it, you can connect a lavalier mic and put the recorder in the actors pocket. If youre on the lowest possible budget, you should get this recorder It will do 34 different jobs without the need for another microphone. Chances are, your DSLR has really bad preamps…hence, the H1N can solve that issue while also recording with its inbuilt microphones. Good luck and keep being creative

I bought this digital recorder for my podcasting studio as I wanted the security of having a dedicated recording device rather than PC, laptop or tablet that would be reliable and just at home on a studio desk as out in the field when interviewing. I chose the Zoom after watching various YouTube reviews and comparisons with other like devices. Im glad I did as the Zoom is really easy to setup and use surprisingly so. I love the quality feel of the unit and that it can be powered from a USB port with the enclosed lead. Also, file transfers are simple and undertaken without having to remove the SD card micro SD card and SD adapter are included in the box. The unit also came with two batteries, so quite literally you could buy the Zoom, unpack, and use immediately. Theres also a plastic case for the Zoom, so it can be safely stored or transported. The internal backup recording facility two sound files per recording was a big draw card for me. Lets face it, some things only ever happen once and you really dont want miss it because your equipment wasnt up to scratch. Ive been reading the manual enclosed in box and experimenting with the various settings, which include mixing and a basic compressor limitor. Ive also used the Zoom to record from my laptop using theunits 3.5mm input plug. The recorded sound quality has been superb from each recording option I have chosen, i.e. either using the attached mic, my Rode mic direct to unit or from my PC. Overall, Im really happy with my choice and feel that I will get many years of great, reliable and quality service out of the Zoom H5. The Zoom H5 exceeded my expectations.

I am a performer and music teacher. I have already used it for recording both performances and music lessons. The detachable microphone is a great feature. Sound quality is good but not great for extreme volume scenarios I tested at a live gig and keeping below 6db was difficult without other noises added because of the inbuilt limiter. The battery life on this Zoom is king. I tested with the provided alkaline batteries using the top mic at 48khz16bit and I gave up after six hours. There was one bar left. I then used power rex recharge batteries not new and used the top mic, input 1 from an iPad, input 2 to from a sony wireless mic system phantom off on 1 2. Recorded 48khz16bit. After four hours of recording finally got the unit down to 1 bar. My old Zoom h4n was no where near as good as this battery king. I am more than happy with the battery life on this unit. Ive not bothered with the sound quality, Ive seen enough reviews on youtube to know its good enough for me. Cheers Ratu

The recorder is lighter than it looks, even with batteries installed.The recordings sound nice and clean, that is if you keep the gain under 5 and dont hold it in your hand while recording. There are no clips to hold the XLR cable in place but they are fairly tight making it unlikely the cable will fall out. Has a hole for a lanyard, I recommend getting a lanyard to avoid any accidental droppages.The included XY mic works well, unfortunately I had mine attached to a cheap tripod and it fell over breaking the flimsy XY shock mount Best to place this on a sturdy tripod or attached to a mic stand on a goose neck. The RCH5 wired remote then comes in super handy as pressing buttons on the device are picked up on the recording when using the capsule. As for the dead tribble, it covers the entire XY capsule so you need to adjust the gain before putting it on.

This is a wonderful recorder you can take with you everywhere and quickly set up for when you need to capture the best sound quality for your dslr and or mirrorless set up. In my case I am using it with my Panasonic G7 and Olympus MFT systems. Later in Final Cut Pro I edit and synch the sound and I have a perfect thing going. It is light in the hand, easy to use, and although I have not taken advantage of its full potential, I feel like I have an excellent tool in my arsenal now. Its a bargain. Highly recommended.

Overall the Zoom is superb, the extra input channels give me all I need in a small unit, the ability to have built in optional limiters makes it forgiving if you get the level slightly wrong and the carry case it comes with, whilst not a flight case, is a very useful addition to transport it. The only downsides for me are i It takes a while to power up and sort its self out before being able to record. probably all of 20 seconds…. ii Having to set date and time every time you change the batteries iii Not being able to input an auto file name for recording The Tascam had this and I used it These are only minor quibble and I highly recommend this device as the quality of the recordings are superb, it has so many features that are there in case you need them.

I do Voice OversSound Design for a living. This little recorder makes my job soooo simple When Im not in my Studio,I take it out to my Car with a Sennheiser MKH416 and record Voice Overs for my Clients. When Im out and about I bring my mic and Zoom with me to capture all kinds of intersting sounds that become FoleySound FX. Being the base model I didnt expect too much but I was pleasantly surprised. Its super easy to use has some useful features like auto gain high pass filter. I used the line in feature so I couldnt comment on how good the mic is but what I captured through my mixer was very good.
