I recently purchased the Zoom H1n Handy Recorder and have been extremely pleased with its performance. This portable recorder stands out for its user-friendly design, featuring simple instructions and an intuitive interface that allows for quick and easy setup right out of the box. Its ease of use makes it an ideal choice for both beginners and experienced users looking to capture high-quality audio recordings without fuss. The H1n proves to be a versatile piece of equipment, perfectly suited for a variety of recording needs. I bought it specifically to record ambient noise, and it has exceeded my expectations in this regard. The sound quality is impressive, capturing the nuances of the environment with clarity and depth that add a professional touch to my projects. One of the most appreciated aspects of this recorder is its portability. Its compact size makes it convenient to carry around, ensuring I never miss an opportunity to capture the sounds around me. Whether I’m in a bustling city or a tranquil natural setting, the H1n is always ready to go. However, if there’s one area for improvement, it would be the inclusion of a built-in rechargeable battery. While the current battery setup is functional, a rechargeable option would enhance the convenience and sustainability of the device, making it even more appealing for long recording sessions or fieldwork. In summary, the Zoom H1n Handy Recorder is a fantastic investment for anyone looking to record high-quality audio with ease. Its simplicity, versatility, and exceptional sound quality make it a valuable tool for capturing ambient sounds or any audio recording needs. With the addition of a built-in rechargeable battery in future models, it could become unbeatable in its category. 4 people found this helpful

The camera comes with only two languages which was strange luckily it had English and the other being Hindi. Odd considering it for UK market the charger is not of UK plug and the provided adapter doesn’t fit the charge. I had to go buy a sperate adaptor to charge I wish this could be resolved. But I doubt Gadget Tree will reply. I was scared that I got a fake product but everything else seems genuine. Idk if there is a way to verify the products authenticity.

Simply, inexpensive way to be able to record things at a high quality. I use for band practice, sound effect recording, lessons, all sorts of different things. I also use it as a real-time microphone for streaming or plugged into my video camera as a shotgun attached to SMALLRIG Microphone Shock Mount. Battery life doesn’t seem that great and it seems to drain more than I would have liked when not in use considering that there is a physical switch for turning it on (so you wouldn’t expect battery life to be draining away with it monitoring a soft switch waiting to be powered on). The UI is now quite dated and it’s awkward to remember what you’re supposed to press to do certain things as the display is so small but that’s because the device is nice and small. You can’t rename sound clips on the Zoom. Speaker is terrible but it’s enough to check that something was recorded. Best way to use it is just press start and stop to do your recording and work out what you recorded later when you connect it to the computer (or use the micro SD Card). 5 people found this helpful

Bought the Zoom H6 Handy Recorder for recording vocals in locations with better acoustics other than my living room or kitchen. Usually I would use a Shure SM58 through a Zoom V6 and clean up in post; I’ve also used the iPhone App: Voice Record Pro for patching in the odd lyric. The H6 is initially a bit fiddly, as using the scroll menu / button seems a bit retro, when touch screen interaction has been around for such a long time, but you get used to it. The XY mic capsule with settings of both 90° and 120° is impressive and for transferring files you can either use the SD card, or slightly quicker by micro-usb to USB 2.0 cable, which doesn’t come with it and you have to buy separately. I’m more than satisfied with the quality of audio the H6 generates: up to 24 Bit 192 kHz. Results are interesting when using additional mics in any of the 4 XLR/TRS inputs, can which I’ve been experimenting with in different positions. As far as battery longevity is concerned (either AA alkaline or rechargeable NiMH), Zoom claim 20 hours usage and I’ve managed to go 16 without replacement. Phantom power is also available in the menu with 3 settings: 12, 24 + 48V. I just wish I’d have got one years ago ~ as it’s coming in very handy… 6 people found this helpful

As the sound recorded from my action go pro type camera is prettey useless and after doing some research it became apparent, not many decent film makers use the audio in camera. I wanted to do some decent filming myself and I like to try and do youtube videos, but the sound is aweful from most cameras. A lot of people use this to record live music and ambient sounds and due to the available mic patterns from the on board 5 mics I guess this is going to be pretty impressive, its not something I have tried as yet but will look forward to being able to record live music. I have successfully used it to record narration through a lapel mic and sync the sound to video using adobe premier elements, but you can do similar with many other programmes, imovie included. Obviously you can either use the H2N with suitable mic pattern switched on or a mono input through the socket, usually with the auto gain switched off. You then hide the H2N in your pocket etc and record your narration. When I did this I did a video of a car review, it was then easy to insert cut aways etc and the original video and sound from this, once synced, remain so during the video and during the period of the cut aways. Its a really nice piece of kit, maybe doesnt need to be shiny plastic, matt would be nicer, but it is what it is, the controls are easy to use and there are many available settings for the quality of the recording, I have not yet learned which is best for what purpose but generally leave iton the default which is good enough for my purpose. The ability to screw a handle on from the available kit is quite handy as it turns it into a handheld mic, a bit more cumbersome than most but very useful. If you are thinking of dabbling with recording sound separately, give this a try for an intro bit of kit, I think most people would be quite satisfied with it for a long time before needing to upgrade 10 people found this helpful

I found this really straightforward to use and had it up and working within minutes. I have used it a lot recording outdoors, indoors too, and the quality of sound is excellent. I downloaded the user manual in advance, which I recommend doing. Battery life is very good, and a 32 gig SD card will give you heaps of recording space. I’m very happy with this product and would recommend it highly to anyone as a starter/beginner recording device for podcasting. 2 people found this helpful

Great value for money and sound quality for its price. Obviously if you crank the mic gain quite up you’re going to have quite some noise from the pre-amps but compared to its predecessor, the original H2 it’s so much better and versatile. It’s actually got 4 microphones built-in and not 5 like advertised. The advert is more to make you understand the way the polar pattern works….sort of. Its actually got 2 microphones set in a X/Y configuration and 2 more microphones set in M/S where one microphone picks up the Mid signal and another microphone set right above it that works in a figure 8 pattern that picks up the Side signal. You can also control the gain of the Side microphone letting you adjust it to you liking. Or you can also record in full gain and then use the free VST plugin from Zoom to edit the gain in post. Overall for its price it really is a great and portable recorder which is very versatile (I use it mainly for field recordings), with excellent battery life that lasts ages and with lots of cool features. You can’t go wrong with this one. 8 people found this helpful

October 2024 Style Name: Zoom H4n Pro Black Handy Recorder Great product, but for £150 I’d expect it to at a minimum come with a charging cable? Or batteries? Or an SD card? The product is great but I don’t know why it doesn’t come with the cables advertised. The rest is good.
