This Solid State Drive is great for upgrading your desktop or laptop. You will see an immediate speed increase in booting and application startup. Since it is a Solid State Drive, you do not have to worry about crashing on your laptop when you move it around no moving parts.

I used this drive in two different ways. First, installed in a Vantec external HD case, httpswww.newegg.comProductProduct.aspxItemN82E16812232053cmreCBSTU32PB12232053Product , I formatted this HD ExFat and used this case so I could transfer files back and forth between an iMac and an Asus Strix laptop, both with internal SSDs. I do a lot of RAW photography as well as 1080p recording with a Canon 6D. I transferred 50GB of RAW images and video and the drive averaged out around 500MBs write speed. This was very respectable considering the price. On the other hand, transferring documents and small images under 1MB was painfully slow. It does not handle small files very well compared to bulk, continuous data. Second, installed as an internal hard drive on the Asus Strix laptop. Compared to the M.2 drive the laptop comes with, its slow, but that is to be expected. Compared to the 1TB 5400rpm drive that it is replacing, night and day. Of course I saw the same exact results out of an internal installation, but this configuration it also hosted games. I would consider this a good use of the drive. A lot of the data that is pulled from the HD during loading is larger files due to the higher resolution textures that are used in modern gaming. It would offer the best bang for your buck while you keep a smaller, much faster HD for your operating system and most used gamesfiles. Overall, Its a great value for the money. There are always going to be other SSDs that are better than this or that in the category so purchased your SSD based on the type of data you are working with. If its large files, this is a very good choice for the budget minded individual.

Just spent all day copying all the data off my WD BLUE 1TB drive because its read speed was stuck at just 20MBs. After copying everything off takes a whole day at 20MBs , reformating, and copying it all back on, it now reads at its original speed around 400MBs on my PC. Not sure what the cause is but i may choose SAMSUNG next time. Maybe it only happens if the drive sits powered off for extended periods of time, six months in the case of this drive. I use it through a USB2SATA adapter cable, but i use a lot of drives with this cable and have no problem with them. I install quite a few WD GREEN drives and never had any problems with them but they go into machines that are on 247.

Its WD and Ive never had a prob with them and have bought their brand for years. All my normal HDs are WD Blacks or Blues 1TBs. This SSD sped my games quite a bit from being on a normal HD. Not great compared to what you can get these days but it helps if you on a budget. Still think it could be slightly cheaper.

Drive was easy to install, transferred operating system from older mechanical drive to SD drive without an issues. Transfer was relatively fast and computer was up and running without any further tweaking. The only issue was that it did not come with a mounting adapter witch was purchased separately. There was no indication regarding this possibility readily available. Other than that I am satisfied with the product.

I purchased the 2t drive for my 2012 macbook pro. My old hd was so slow that i was using obscene language every single time i turned it on. I was about ready to toss it. Then the it got for our company recommended replacing it with a ssd. So i did my research and settled on wd both for the review i read around the web and the price. So happy i did. I love my macbook again I plan to max out the ram on this baby and keep it for another 5 years I did have a little trouble with the install. I had never replaced a hard drive before so i didnt know you had to format it. The wd tech support cleared that up for me. Though he was a little confused and told me i needed to pull it out and format it externally with a usb sata cable and my old drive. Fortunately, i did know how to format a drive via disk utility so i just did that and voila Installed mojave, restored my time machine back up and im back in business. This drive really is a game changer. I did opt for the outletpc extended warranty just to be safe. But so far, im extremely happy

Easy to install, good speed. Used on a raid5 on dell workstation with 128 gb of ram and an i7 processor. Using vmware workstation 15, and installed vsphere 6.7 running at least 6 virtual machines in it. Performance is great I like this disks and do not perceive any performance difference with my other server running a similar configuration. So far i recommend this drive i bought 3 of them in a raid5 config. Working great I will post performance stats my next reveiew

Stop using HDDsThat is all I really need to say when it comes to refreshing your older enterprise computers. If your machine has any newer iseries Intel processor even i3s, destroy that HDD and throw it in the trash. I have refreshed about 20 older Dell E5530s circa2011ish and they are perfectly capable, fast machines now that I have removed those dinosaur HDDs and replaced them with this WD SSD.Western Digital has been my goto storage since I was a nerd in school building my gaming PCs and now that they bought SanDisk and entered the SSD ring, I will continue to do so for cheaper reliable SSDs. Not everyone needs a Samsung Evo 950 or an M.2 NVMe unless they are doing some serious crunching. Your average user cant tell the speed difference between an i3 and an i5, they definitely wont see the difference between an SSD and NVMe.They WILL see the difference between an HDD and an SSD. Do them a favor and toss those HDDs when you can buy an SSD for 50.

Installed this in my Dell laptop that had a Seagate HDD 5400RPM 1TB which had nothing wrong with it. I bough this drive for my new Desktop build and I havent gotten all of the parts for that yet. So, I wanted to test this SSD before the build was finished. So, I installed this on the laptop. Installed the OS. Long story short. The HDD had been replaced with this SSD and the HDD is now sitting in the box collecting dust. Highesight. I bought another one of these SSDs for the Desktop. Its currently being shipped as of 1102020 I promise myself not to use that one in the laptop as well. Since the Desktop is taking the M.2 2280 SSD drive and The laptop has the option for both. Laptop is keeping the SATA III 2.5 drive and the desktop is getting the M.2 Both have great speed and potential. However the Zen II Asus board will benefit from the M.2 direct drive to board SSD vs one of the SATA 6gb cable.

Was easy to install, working great as a replacement for my former hard drive that failed. Faster and less noisy. Good price. Dell chat sales agent was very helpful in selecting this item.

When I bought the first of the two which I now own, I was a little skeptical. I had been told that only the black edition of WDs HDDs were of top quality and would last very long. And I am not sure that this advice was necessarily true, either. However, I have not found this to be true of their SSDs, either. SSDs in general seem to be more reliable and offer better longevity, since they have no moving parts like the spinning platters of the older HDDs. I would highly recommend this drive for the purpose of adding room for more data to ones build. They are very reliable and are priced competitively. But, like any electronic storage device, I always make sure to back up all data regularly to another storage device. Over time, all of them will eventually fail.

Simple installation when using the Acronis True Image WD edition downloadable on the WD site. Make sure you have the drive fitted before you install the app though or it wont work. Replaced a smaller Samsung 850 Evo with this drive, seems every bit as fast as the Samsung. Delivered quickly by CCL as promised. Plus, it was cheaper than from EBuyer cant complain
Anonymous –
Not much to say its an ssd. I bought this to be my primary gaming ssd to take the pressure of my boot drive that was getting full from my games. It works as intended and easy to install and setup. Its wd so there products has always served me well and Im sure this wont be any different
Phil S. –
Bought this to upgrade my MSI GF75 Thin laptop. Replaced HD with this SSD, worked flawlessly, and makes all installs much faster to load. Great software from WD to manage drives, Western Digital Dashboard. Great value from CCL for 3D NAND SSD.

I have a home digital music studio. It requires a fast drive to prevent latency when writing a song, and to perform various tasks. Previously I was using a 7200 rpm 1TB hard drive. I decided to upgrade to a solid state disk. I chose the Western Digital SSD 1TB Blue drive for the replacement. Wow, what an improvement. It is at least 56 times faster than my old hard drive. Windows and all other programs load very fast. It is quiet and uses less power to operate. I have used Western Digital products in the past, and they are very reliable. I am very satisfied with my purchase. As usual, BH Photo got the product to me in record speed.

Western Digital SSDs are as good as they get. Between Intel and WD there are little to difference in performance andor reliability. Ive used WD SSDs since 2011 when SSDs started to make their way into the market. It has yet to fail on me, I only upgraded because capacityprice has come down a lot. Dont get caught up in all the ReadWrite numbers, this SSD will bring an older laptop back to life. I promise, Ive done it 5 times with other old laptops my relatives have. Instead of buying new computer. We Cloned the 5400rpm HDD drive to the WD SSD and bam they basically have a new computer thats quick and snappy.
Sqby –
So far I had no issues with the drive. Quick install and works perfectly. Arrived a bit late but didnt caused me any troubles, also quite understandable with the Covid situation. This was recommended by my company as they are using them for all the PC in the studio so I am sure it will be as reliable as Samsung that I used before.

It was a good little drive but it died completely in just under a year and a half, had it as a boot drive and it failed catastrophically. Nothing loading or closing had to force shutdown cause windows locked up. Drive became unbootable Tried windows recovery tools Installation media 3rd party recovery software. It reads as a drive in windows but formatting is impossible and its pegged at 100 usage.

Worked just fine, and was a VERY nice upgrade from a dying mechanic hard drive in a 2015 model 27 iMac. I had to go in to repair something else anyways, so I figured why not upgrade to SSD while Im in here and this was a good idea I would recommend for desktops and iMacs to ALSO order a 2.5inch to 3.5inch adapter, as this will be required to put a smaller 2.5 SSD into a larger machine that only accepts 3.5 drives

Disk drive was working in a couple of minutes. It replaced a 500GB Intel SSD, and I see no difference in time to copy 100GB from another disk. I believe that many SSD either work 5 eggs or they dont one egg. At least in my case, warranty is not useful at all except as an indication of the quality commitment of the vendor because, if I had a problem, I would not like anyone having full access to the bits in the disk drive. Instead, what I would like from manufacturers is to have more and better tools to recover data and reset the disk drive if possible.

I upgraded my ancient PC with more memory and faster disks. I had bought a WD Blue 256GB hard drive a few years ago, and finally installed it, but realized I didnt have the space for my pictures, movies, documents, etc. So I went to NewEgg and found the WD Blue 2TB, and decided to splurge. It installed flawlessly and has been operating perfectly so far. I just moved some files to it today and saw about 150MBs from the 256 GB flash drive to this new flash drive. Well see about longevity Im not sure about the durability of 3D NAND but so far Im happy

I bought this to convert my PC from HDD to SSD. Boot time now is somewhere around 10 seconds from power button to login screen with Windows 10. Applications like Firefox start up a lot more quickly too. And of course, quieter operation is a big plus the CPU, power supply and graphics card fans still make some noise obviously. I cant speak about reliability so far but I trust WD. Like any other SATA drive, it is straightforward to install and fits into a 2.5 slot.

Works perfectly. Earlier this year I built a PC with 500GB SSD from another manufacturer. After a couple of months I started to have intermittent boot up problems, which I traced to the original drive. So purchased this Western Digital SSD,and cloned the old drives software onto it in about 20mins.Never had a problem since.Western Digital have always been very reliable and I use several on NAS boxes on my network.
BobD from Toledo OH –
I bought this on the suggestion from a coworker as my existing HD was slowing down. My buddy would have helped me install and clone the drive but Covid struck him and I wasnt going to visit him. It took awhile to find the proper cloning software but once I did I eventually found it on the WD site under support Acronis was the software , the cloning worked successfully. My computer is working much faster and reliably faster and overall a successful purchase. I will admit the size of this thing really surprised me as it is SO Small compared to the existing HD. Newegg was very proactive with my purchase providing me multiple emails to verify my purchase and tracking info. Its been awhile since Ive bought anything like this from Newegg but their attention to customer service has remained high for me.
Mark S. –
Relatively inexpensive compared to some other SSD drives I saw for sale. It works as it should. I installed this on a recent build where my boot drive is an M.2, so this is just a storage drive. I havent used it much yet, nor have I had it long, so I cant talk of durability, But out of the gate this drive is performing at an above average clip.
James F. –
My system is a bit elderly, and not as fast as the systems today. Im certain that the Crystal Disk numbers are limited by my older PCi Express 2.0 bus MOBO. But I did notice a bit more snappy operation in doing the usual things. It gets a little warm during operation, but nothing even close to alarming. I have a 500Gbyt Samsung M2 drive for boot, and this 1TB for big data videos, music. Getting rid of my last mechanical drive did make a difference. 1 year later. Still going strong. Even though my system is very old, this drive gives it new life.
Martin H. –
The WD Blue SSD is fast and great value. Fitting this drive into a laptop transforms its performance and makes it feel like a new machine. This is a great value upgrade for any laptop and will extend its life dont buy a new laptop just buy this SSD and swap out the original hard disk drive. You will be pleasantly surprised.
Trevor –
It is fast and the discounted price is great. The bottle neck for many old laptops are not the CPU but the slow drive speed. Now my old laptops bootup time has decreased substantially. I feels like I got brand new machines. Dells price is the cheapest I have seen on the internet.
Robin L. –
1st one was defective had to RMA Newegg is good and fast about this Second one arrived, dropped it in and cloned my old drive no problem. However I had to use third party software to clone with, as the software available on the Western Digital website would not work. I was copying from a Samsung 120 Gb to this WD 250 Gb. The free software would not recognize the Samsung drive at all. The Western Digital Dashboard software reports the drive status as POOR. Minimum number of blocks has been reached. Order a new drive. However this does not seem to be accurate, as third party software reports the drive to OK, and the drive operates perfectly so far Would I recommend this drive to a friend Well, only if that friend was computer savvy enough to deal with aforementioned issues… Western Digital knows better, and we as consumers expect more from them as a company. These issues could and should be corrected, as there are reports all over the place that state the same issues. So these are known issues at this point… Will I buy another one Probably not. The Samsung was so good for so long, I should have just ponied up the 25 difference and bought the Samsung of the same size. Hopefully Western Digital will get their act together and fix the issues. The drive is fast enough, so lets hope it is reliable enough as well.

My mothers old hard drive from 2014 began dying so I bought this for her PC because my 1TB version has been amazing, too. Shes super happy because now her programs run faster than ever before. The only hiccup I found in the whole ordeal was caused by myself as I used her old 1TB drive as a temporary storage location and because she likes to save to the desktop, I changed the save location of the desktop to the old 1TB, which caused a continuous error eventually leading the PC to reboot without warning however, I have since undone this and all rebooting has stopped. I only write this to say I did not put it in as a Con because the error was not caused by the drive itself but by Windows not liking the changes I did. And I only wouldve placed it as a Con and reported the errors if they persisted after troubleshooting.
WILLIAM K. –
I dont know if I would recommend this drive because I have not owned it long enough. It seems to do what it should, it loads Music, Games, Emulators, and other mediaprograms I have stored on it. Seems OK for a Ivybridge system that only has SATA interface. All of the drives on the system run at the same speed. There is a system limitation, its not the drive. Drive works good and reliable.
Matthew M. –
Updating a PC to hand down to family. Moms going to be amazed at the speed. Not the fastest SSD Ive used, but its less expensive than others and Ive had good luck with WDs Blue line of HDDs. Figure if it runs in the same vein as those, Im good. Didnt list it as a con because its just the nature of the technology, but I still grumble over SSDs limited readwrite cycles. As soon as they release an SSD that will outlive any of my platter drives, Im grabbing it.
Richard K. –
Bought this to replace a traditional HDD, in use with a laptop purchased 2012. The particular laptop is a truly robust product, amenable to updating. So I cant speak for all users of older computers. Amazing improvement in speed and efficiency on all programs, even without other updates to the computer. Waste heat is also noticeably less fan doesnt have to run as much. Price is great, and BHs price is remarkable.
Thomas M. –
Performance wise, the drive is just fine. Its right up there with other SSDs on the market saturating the SATA line. Unfortunately, one of the 2 drives I purchased is already starting to have read and write failures. Thats pretty shocking for a brand new SSD.
Daniel –
I bought this because I was wanting to switch from a 2TB mechanical 7200rpm drive so I can have an all SSD system. It works great Its snappy, most of my pro apps load almost instantaneously and if youre a gamer, you cant go wrong either. Premiere Pro doesnt have a hard time scrubbing 4k H.264 footage and game loading times are way shorter than they are on a standard mechanical drive. The time to have SSD mass storage is now.
Cesar R. –
I have an Ideapad u430 from Lenovo which was starting to reach its capacity in terms of hard drive speed with todays program website demands and processing power. It came with a 5400 rpm HDD, so it was finally time to upgrade. Paired with a new G.Skill Ripjaws 8g ram stick AND this SSD, my laptop feels like a new machine So happy these two upgrades have breathed new life to my 6 year old laptop. It has noticeably helped my laptop run cooler AND has improved battery life. Boot time difference is ridiculous. So most of stuff they tout is true . My biggest challenge was cloning my HDD to the SDD with the Acronis software on their website. Between that software and Win 10 Pros automatic driver assigning of the SSD when I plugged it in, it took me fiddlin before deciding to use another thirdparty cloning app. Despite that, great drive especially if you had an older laptop with a HDD. I cant imagine going back, even to a hybrid HDDSSD drive.
David S. –
I installed this on an aging Asus K55A laptop which is my worktravel PC. I run AutoCad, some process simulation software, and the typical Office applications. The PC would typically take 5 minutes to reboot for everything to start. AutoCAD took 45 minutes to boot. Photoshop just … Never mind. Just spent a lot of time waiting for my toy to catch up with me despite 16 gb RAM. Now, 30 second boot, less than 30 seconds for ACAD. Photoshop even opens Major difference. The slow part of my PC is now the processor Intel Core i5 and not the hard drive.
Matthew S. –
Looks cant be everything. Anyone who buys this drive will know what it looks like. The Acronis problem I had could have been user error. I cant justifiably remove any eggs for either of my cons. At the end of the day this is an incredibly fast SSD that stakes claim to lower power draw and longer life, while boasting a 3year limited warranty. Its 3d NAND tech allows for up to 2TB of storage if you can swing the cost of it. I want to thank newegg and WD for the opportunity to review this drive. While it may not be part of the showcase in my PC, I fully intend to test its longer life span in my daughters. I would highly recommend it to anyone that is building off a blue color scheme.
Mark –
I have always had excellent service from WD devices. This device was extremely easy to install and initialize using Windows 10 disk management. Installed into a 2.5 SATA III housing, it was pressed into service and is a nice addition to my computer system.
Jack C. –
Definitely recommend this product for anybody who has a older laptop or desktop with a hard disk drive as a boot drive adding a SSD like this is very affordable and with an older computer is not much of a cost. Your boot time and your read times for opening documents are presentations will be increased to the point that you will not mind spending the minimum cost for this upgrade. These drives are the best bang for the buck stay away from the knockoffs you cant beat these
David K. –
Would recommend. Was going with m.2 for my x570 gigabyte aorus elite when I saw that a sizable number of people were having windows install m.2 drive troubles with gigabytes latest bios patch. Went the safer, cheaper route and I dont feel cheated. Not that m.2 is risky or anything, just know if your getting my mobo that you might end up doing a bios flash if you go the m.2 route.
Rob M. –
Seems like drive works ok. However, the plastic SATA connector pin on back was broken on arrival. So very difficult to line up connector pins on cable and tape in place. The piece of plastic was cracked and pretty much fell apart before I even installed into PC. But with some tape holding things in place, for now its working.
Mark –
I also bought the eSATA to USBC cable with this SSD. This gives me a 1TB surplus of storage space to compliment the Mac Minis internal 500GB of storage. This is my third 1TB WD Blue SSD. They are generally used for file storage, while occasionally used for video storage and editing. They are great drives and very reliable.

Id have given it 5 starts if I were basing my evaluation strictly on the performance of the product, but there are other things to factor in and they dont allow people to give 910ths of a star, which is what the star ranking for the product really is to me. First let me begin with the one and only negative thing about the WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB PC SSD SATA III Western Digitals site only provides Acronis True image for cloning your existing drive, and it is a trimmed down version that has no error messages or logs, and doesnt really scan your original HDD to report any corrupted files. So, let me save you some time and trouble on that part dont go to the wd site and download Acronis. There is free software out there to do a better job, I used Macrium Reflect, and now Ive decided to purchase it because it does a much better job at backups than MS Win backups do and it is safe to use. Im always suspicious of software on foreign sites, but Macrium came recommended by CNET and the 30 trail allows you to clone. I tried for 2 days using Acronis to isolate the cause of my cloning failures, following all the known issues on various logs including the WD site. In one hour, Macrium Reflect informed me that I had some corrupted files that needed to be fixed and gave me the command line prompt to fix them. Acronis pretended to be cloning, but never completed a single task and then just terminated with no messages, or reasons why. It didnt even pick the task up when I tried to isolate causes and run the clone again, but Macrium did. Acronis made me go through the whole setup, again and again and again. Now for the positive stuff. This ssd drive is like having 1TB of RAM. Windows doesnt just load anymore, it blasts on the screen with nerve shattering speed. Applications load like theyve never been closed. I do a lot of work in 3D and I can easily load a 1 million polygon file in 12 seconds. While Im working on 3D models a no longer have to bear the sound of my HDD thrashing around violently. My 8 year old computer performs like a one week old super computer now. I bought an extra device just for my virtual memory and backups. It is just amazing and well worth the frustration of cloning,,, just dont make the same mistake I made, dont use Acronis, use Macrium Reflect.

My HP Envy was needing an upgrade from a OLD 1TB Crucial SSD. So I decided to put a 2TB WD SSD Blue and am extremely satisfied with the performance. It was very easy to install a real GREAT SSD and I managed to snag it at a sale price. Fired up the laptop and NO problems everything worked perfect even the cloning and if I need to buy another SSD I would do it again. Thanks WD for your Sale Notifications

This disk drive has a fundamental design defect, in that it houses some of its GPT partition information on the host operating system drive no big deal unless you happen to change that information while under a different system disk, and then go back to the old one. In that event it ends up in a configuration where its half of one, and half of the other. This destroys the data on the drive. I have never seen a disk drive that you cannot freely move between computers, not in 32 years of fixing computers and servers professionally and yet this drive is exactly that. It has nothing to do with bitlocker or anything else, its not a security issue the part of the drive that becomes corrupted is the actual partition information itself. I called western digital support, and they were at a loss as to how to repair it, so this drive is best avoided.
Telford D. –
Being SATA, installation was simple. Used Acronis software to make a mirror image copy of the original HD onto the new SSD no issues encountered, then removed the original HD and booted off the new SSD. System came right up and worked the same as with the original drive, but much faster. Obviously, long term use will show whether this drive is reliable in the long term, but so far, so good. Stay tuned…
Joseph C. –
Tested this drive against 2 other SSDs in my system, a regular 2d nand sandisk ssd pro 128gb and a samsung 950 pro 256gb NVMe pci ssd using crystal disk mark to bench them all. 1tb WD Sandisk 950evo Read 556.3 448.3 2251 Write 534.4 211.0 948.6 As you can see from the results, the WD blue gets exactly as WD claims and its interesting to see how it stacks up against an older drive and the faster drives that use different interfaces. Its worth noting that when the sandisk drive was brand new it got around the same read speeds as the WD blue but still way slower writes. I threw the 950 nvme drive in just for comparsion as nvme drives are getting more and more common and they are not limited by SATA. Test was done on windows 10 with i54690k on a z97 asrock motherboard 16gb of ram and using 1gb file sizes in crystal diskmark.

On September 11, 2020. I had purchased 2 M.2 SSDs and the Western Digital 4TB SSD, both were in separate orders made on the same date. I sent the 2 M.2 SSDs back as I had purchased the wrong ones. I was refunded both sticks but only one of the extended warranties and when I brought it to the attention of Newegg, they had supposedly corrected it….but instead of cancelling both warranties for the M.2 Sticks, they cancelled one of the sticks and the extended warranty I had purchased for the Western Digital 4TB SSD. The warranty on the stick I sent back was refunded today, but I was told I had to repurchase it for the Western Digital SSD. Problem is…I cant. If I didnt originally purchase it with the drive, I could…but I purchased it WITH the drive. I was told by not ONE but TWO Newegg Reps that I could repurchased it, only to be told I cant…so sorry, so sad, too bad. This is a problem with having employees sharing only one brain cell….if its stretched beyond its capacity, its going to fry and even of one one employee was using the cell at the time, theres still a 95.99 chance the the cell will fry. A simple thing that I had explained in great detail was so messed up, that you could literally say that things went from FUUBAR to SNAFU at the same time. Total incompetence.

Your OS will load in mere seconds. Between restarts from desktop to desktop, it is under 20 seconds tops. My M.2 drive, which sits right under the super hot video card eventually started showing signs of heat degradation because the Mobo does not allocate for thermal problems between various components. This SSD can be cabled far away from the video card and under cooling fans. The M.2 it replaced is not so fortunate. It still chugs along but the heat it experienced being so close to the video card ruined it. This SSD is protected from heat dissipation with good cabling. GET ONE its ONE TERRABYTE

The drive is satisfactory, the promotional deal from which I obtained it was excellent, and I am happy with THE DRIVE. I am absolutely not happy with the nonfunctional support software installer package, Western digital please read your support forums and you will find a lot of people extremely unhappy with this software which cannot be installed. I dont want to get emails telling me that I have to do this procedure or that procedure on my computer, I want to see a brand new package available that is not a Web stub, but a full offline installer. I mean, the program is only 200 MB, why cram it into a Web stub just give us the full offline installer for the latest version Grrr.

Ive bought Western Digital drives exclusively for over 20 years now. I dont buy any other brand. For many years, back in the NCIX days, I would have bought my WD spinners from Newegg, but for some reason they always had bad reviews for the WD spinners they sold whereas everywhere else they were rock solid. The only thing I could deduce from this was somewhere along the Newegg route, be it the delivery, or the handling of the WD drives at Newegg, the drives were not treated with the care they should have. Why else would Newegg be the ONLY seller of WD drivers that had an abnormally high failure rate So because of this I never once bought a WD spinner from Newegg. But now that Im in the market for numerous SD drives, the rough handling issue with the spinners is no longer a problem. The SD drivers are so light in weight that even if they are throwing boxes of them across the warehouse floor or dropping them on the floor, the packaging itself is more than enough to protect them. Even better is that of the last 3 WD SSD drives Ive bought, the last 2 have been FROM Newegg because they have beaten out the all mighty Azn in pricing That is a noteworthy feat in and of itself. As for the WD Blue SSDs, they are rock solid just as their spinners always have been for me. All the current NAND WD SSDs now come with a 5 year warranty compared to 3 years when the WD SSDs first came out, and they are reliable and they just work. I havent had a single issue with a WD SSD ever and I currently have 6 of them in operation going back over the last 2 years in different sizes ranging from 250GB to 1TB. So Im super happy with WDs SSDs, and I dont ever see myself buying anything but WD for SSDs just as I did and still do with their spinners.

Installed in my Dell Inspiron 15 3000 3567. Used You Tube videos to learn how to replace the old drive with the new WD SSD. Cloned and installed in less that 1 hour with no problems. Note that it does not come with the cable needed to clone old drive to new one.

Im a consumer who likes to buy quality products that are reliable and will last me a while, giving me the most for my dollar. Western Digital is a brand that has been in the game for a long time, and they know what theyre doing. Ive been using WD drives for a long time, and Ive never had issues with using them until they reach end of life from regular use. I bought this to replace my PS3 HDD, and my system runs much faster than it used to. Given that I dont play my PS3 all the time, I can expect this drive to last me 510 years before I need to replace it. The price is well worth the brand I bought into.

I replaced an existing hard drive with this SSD and am amazed at the performance. I was ready to get rid of my PC due to slow performance, but this drive changed everything. I decided to do a clean install of windows 10 so put the install files on a flash drive. I backed up everything important, installed the SSD and then installed windows 10. One thing to note. I have two drives on my pc and you have to disconnect all drives except for the one getting windows 10, otherwise you will get an error. The new SSD is in and running very well

I dont know a great deal about SSD drives, but the larger capacity the better, and the newer 3D NAND technology improves reliability. This 500GB WD blue SSD 3D NAND ticked those boxes for my PC system drive upgrade. End result Windows 10 now takes under 30 to fully boot before with the regular platter drive was around 3 minutes, and programs and items clicked on open pretty much instantly. Worth it.

I bought this as a replacement drive for an old Optiplex PC I am using as a secondary PC at a second house. I needed a desktop and a printer for the odd document that has to be printed. The Optiplex was slow, so I added some memory and this drive, and the machine runs fast enough for the basic tasks I need web searches and printing. Its a great drive for the price and purpose.

This was tested against a Samsung 850 Evo, Crucial MX300 and Kingston Hyper X SSD, all 500GB in capacity and newly formatted. The benchmarks were all run at least 10 times and averaged out. Results are as follows PCMark 8 Service Time for WoW lower is better Evo 57.3 WD Blue 57.9 MX300 58.9 Hyper X 59.3 Several other games and applications were run through PCMark 8 with nearly identical margins and the same order of performance. Sequential Steady State Read average of 80 and 70 reads higher is better WD Blue 364 MX300 293 Evo 246 An impressive win for the WD Blue here 4K Random Read IOPS higher is better MX300 86500 Evo 74800 WD Blue 67000 128K Sequential Read higher is better WD Blue 538 claimed 560 Evo 517 MX300 488 Very impressive as the WD Blue is nearly maxing out what can be done with SATA 128K Sequential Write higher is better Evo 513 WD Blue 497 claimed 530 MX300 489 In the end, WD has done a great job with this 500GB 3D NAND SSD and I would have no problem recommending this to anyone. Prices constantly change but as of the writing of this, its as fast or faster than the highly praised Evo 850 in all areas that matter and depending on the size drive your shopping for, it can be had for considerably less making this Blue a relative bargain. I expect there to be a firmware update in the near future that will give this drive the final polish it needs and eek out even more performance. I wish WD would stand by their offerings for more than 3 years as plenty others offer 510 year warranties and that offers up a lot more peace of mind to the consumer.

I have always had very good performance and reliability from WD. This drive runs very fast. Had to improvise some to install in a Dell Optiplex 3010…used an Insignia 3.5 to 2.5 adapter. Drive has to be flipped over to plug into SATApower connections. Dell uses pins for mounting that dont work…used one fine thread screw that I had to mount adapter into HDD plastic rails. WD Acronis Drive Image would not clone the drive via usb. Used AOMEI standard and worked like a charm

my old dell inspiron 15 3521 got back to life. I highly recommend find a good cloning software before you buy ssd. If the new and old disk size is same, then free software do not align your new disk. If you do not align then speed is low and you will have to buy a software for partion alignment.

Dont want to spend the extra on a Samsung These are great alternatives. This is my second purchase for one of these, and much like the EVO, its because theyre solid drives and performance difference between the two is near negligible. Great for a cheap laptop drive swap out.

Great little units for injecting some get go into aging Dell computers configured with SATA hard drives. Installed in 20082010 lap tops and a tower. They are all functional with Windows 10 again. Boot up speed went from multiminutes to tens of seconds. All apps are usable once more. Reliability ….well it is an SSD so should be fine, but to soon to access.

Bought it to replace non SSD WD blue drive. So far improves speed so Im happy. Need to download Acronis software to clone old HD. Takes about a half hour to clone 500GB drive. Need to initialize drive in disk manager. No instructions included to do so. You can download software from WD to check drive statistics.

Ive always wanted to switch my comupters to SSD but in the past it was just not cost effective, but these days it is, so I did I run 17 mid to highend notebookslaptops and the speed of these SSDs are awsome not to mention consideralby less power draw on the system, I chose the WD Blue because it is TLC storage apposed to QLC I feel as though the lates and gratest advancements are NOT always a good thing. The TLC is fater and yet has plenty of storage power. Lighting faster then the michanical drive I upgraded from.

Newegg replaced the unit but it took a long time to accomplish although without hassle. COVID was the reason given. I also ordered other units from Crucial, these came very well made, performed really well and the things are almost unbreakable. Buy Crucial instead. I have used Western Digital in all build for the last 20 years and I am highly disappointed with these, cheaply made and cheaply shipped in an envelope.

Installing this SSD to replace a 500GB Seagate disk has made a tremendous difference to the speed of my old Lenovo laptop. Installation was relatively painless cloning and resizing the existing partitions from the old disk using EaseUS software that I already had. I used a very cheap external USB enclosure to do this. Highly recommended.

Been a user of the WD Black drives for a very long time. First experience with SSD was the Samsung EVOs, and they are fine performers. Along came the WD Blue SSD. Replaced the Black drives in this old rig with a Blue 250gb OS drive and a Blue 1tb Data drive. This 10 year old Win7x86 rig is screaming again Buy the WD BLUE SSD drives with confidence.

I bought these to upgrade some old PCs for my kids. We swapped out the mechanical drives and reinstalled Windows. They were a massive improvement, even for 10yr old PCs, and when my kids are rough with them the drives arent likely to fail. One odd note, because of the shapecolor of the label it makes the drive look like it isnt the standard 2.5 size, but rest assured, they are standard size.

Great product. Great price at 109. I used it to upgrade my 2010 Mac Pro. Going from mechanical HD to SSD makes a huge difference. I am using my Mac pro 2010 for video editing and music creation. I will be getting more WD SSDs soon.

So I bought this SSD in order to update the wifes PC and finally do away with spinning rust, as primary drives at least. Sadly, it was not to be. Today is Dec 28th 2018 and I just had to put said rusty drive back into the PC. It all started when it started taking an ice age to start up or shut down. Then BIOS didnt see the drive, then it did. Swap out leads, swap SATA ports and W7 finally admits to seeing it. Back up the entire contents and thank heavens that I could at least get that on Dec 26th. Dec 28th, no joy in the BIOS, W7 wont start regular or Safe Mode and it wont shut down. Without changing anything else, I put back the old HDD and all is good again. Back up is being copied back and now I have to get a replacement from WD. Which is going to be fun as their portal just 404ed on me… Maybe I should just take a hammer to the drive and get a Samsung Evo, like I have in mine… Avoid these, they arent worth the small savings over the current Samsung 860 EVOs.

It is fast compared to my old HDD of 5500 rpm and easy to install. Very light in wight. On the negatives, very plasticky and looks more like a childs toy than some serious piece of electronic equipment, of course this is the reason it is light weight. In this case its suits the looks are deceiving adage though. Packs good performance.

I did receive this drive for review. I did a fresh install of Windows 10 which went just fine. It is such a pleasure to install an OS to an SSD with a nice fast USB3 flash drive. What a difference from using floppies, CDs or even USB2 flash drives for that matter….so fast….great time to be alive. After running some benchmarks I was a little disappointed it was consistently about 1520 lower than advertised. Mostly writes as reads were super fast all around. I did not take a star off because in real world use nobody would be able to tell the difference. It is a good value, especially if WD is your prefered brand. Real world She is a choocher for sure. I am using this with an FX8350 as a headless dedicated gaming server. I have two separate instances of 7 Days to Die servers running as well as a Factorio server. No lag issues from disk writes as you walk through a randomly generated world, even when the other servers have a few people on them. It is nice having the space to have multiple servers running while having the performance of an SSD. If WD is your brand this is a good one for sure. If you dont really care , you may be able to find something a bit cheaper. Recommended

Fabulous product. My iMac had become SO SLOW that it was hard to use. Took so long to boot that I would start it and walk away to do something else while waiting. This SSD has made it run like new. Starts in a FLASH, mere seconds, and ready to USE Have used WD drives for years. Reliable and LONG LASTING

It arrived, it worked, and it was relatively easy to install. Massive speed up compared to my HDD at a good price, and with a solid amount of memory. Did NOT come with a SATA cable, so I had to purchase one separately. Vaguely annoying, but not enough to affect the score, especially considering the great value.

Chose this as the drive for OS and programs in my new build. I then separated data onto a Gold Enterprise Class drive. The Blue SSD was easy to set up initiallyno glitches. It performs well and I am confident it will last years beyond its warranty. For 25 years I have used only WD drives, mostly the Black Edition. WD drives have never failed. As long as I need drives, WD is my choice.
Derek N. –
Minimalistic packaging, a benefit in that there is little to throw away, however if you buy this drive and need a 3.5 adapter youll need to purchase it separately as well as making sure you have the appropriate screws and cables. As I noted this was installed into my Yoga being slim enough it doesnt have indents in the corners so it did hang up on a screw, however the drive laid just flat enough to reinstall the cover plate without a noticeable bump or any damage being done to the unit. I was concerned at first this drive would end up being an old SanDisk with a new label. I have a few SanDisk units and compared them on the same test system. The WD drive has different performance characteristics, so it doesnt seem to be a clone of the other units I was able to test it against. I hope this is true as those are some of the only drives Ive had issues with. Its nice to see WD stepping into the SSD arena, they have been my go to for over a decade when purchasing hdds. This drive has certainly been a huge upgrade from the previous sshd. If you dont have an SSD yet, its past time to get one. It is the largest general use performance enhancement that can be made to most systems.

First thing I did was to put it in my dock to see if it was recognized and it was immediately, then attempted to clone my HDD onto it. I had a 250gb HDD as a place holder in an existing system for a future SSD upgrade. The cloning software included and the free software I had been using for years both failed to make a bootable clone. Further research showed that making a disc image as a backup and restoring to the SSD was successful and did save the hassel of a complete reinstall. It worked as if the SSD had always been the boot drive. I did find the reason for the failed clone. It was that I configured my system to have a boot drive and 2 1TB storage drives in Raid 1 configuration. The result was that a clone would not work due to the motherboard rejecting it as a boot drive and was really a matter of the motherboard just not liking it. The motherboard had no problems recognizing the backed up disc image as the disc image configured the SSD to be compatible. Many people that report problems, never report their pc configuration and make me question if they just fail to use other methods to make their pc work. When pc configurations are not all the default settings which is the most common and target group for the free cloning software, people sometimes have problems that are not the fault of the hardware manufacturer, but just the wrong method of installation. The other problem a lot of people seem to have is they dont initialize an SSDHDD, sometimes this does not happen at the factory and needs to be done by the end user. They also sometimes fail to set it as the boot drive in their BIOS as is required by my motherboard, which does not do that just because I install a new SSD or HDD. Final results. I would buy again and do recommend this drive.

Western Digital makes good products. This is a fact and I am sure this product will be one of them. The fact that the post office held it for 9 days bothers me. It arrived at the Memphis post office on the 17th of December and I received it on the 26th of December. I live 70 miles from the post office in Memphis. This is not the fault of New Egg but the postal system which is the most inefficient company in the country. Service from New Egg has always been great so I am not disappointed in the company but the transportation they have to use. The post office delivers for both UPS Fedex badly.

I purchased this SSD to replace my Samsung EVO 860 500GB SSD that ran out of room. The Acronis True Image WD Edition software not included, but available on Western Digitals website made the installation very easy and flawless. So for I am very happy with this product. I purchased it while on sale at NewEgg and am very happy I did.

Installed in brand new machine. Hours of file and app installations later, most things ran fine, but Windows Update kept reporting Downloading 0 for updating SOME device drivers and some programs mysteriously wouldnt complete installing. I reset Update and did everything I knew to resolve. Finally ran WD SSD Utility the v. 2.5 wouldnt run, but the v. 2.4 would. On the SMART test, the drive showed bad Just didnt feel right. I unsuccessfully Reset Windows failed and reverted to no changes made. Then did a full reinstall and everything seemed OK update works, SSD Utility 2.5 installed and reports fine. All programs smoothly installed. For some reason, it may have been the video driver Intel 630 UHD. I discovered Microsoft requires a fairly new Universal Windows Driver for Windows 10 v. 1809 October 2018 Update and beyond. The change also applies to Windows Server 2019 and later. If you use the older legacy driver, Intel reports it could cause system instability. UPDATE After 3 days of use, the drive cant be recognized. No Boot Device when Windows starts. Im returning it for replacement. Will update when new one arrives. disappointing.

It took wd a rather long time before getting into the ssd market but this unit works well and is at a great price. Im glad that wd did this since ive used their spinners for many years some over 10years and still going. Within the next few years, these standalone ssds will begin to be replaced by nvme motherboard drives and will mostly be used for removable drive applications. But, for now its hard to beat the price and performance of this 2tb drive.

Im in the process of replacing all of my spinning drives with SSD and these 500GB WD SSDs are a great way to do that. Hopefully 1TB versions get down to this price point soon then all my server drives will be swapped out. I tend to put these 500GB WDs in laptops or repurposing where I either clone the spinning drive or do a fresh Windows 10 install. The boost to older laptops is fantastic and puts off having to buy an expensive laptop until the expensive laptop becomes inexpensive. They are also a simple install dead simple. Theyre great for Linux installs.

3D NAND is new, and highly praised by the manufacturers for greater stability and life. These were very important in choosing SSD over spinner HDs. And so now its even better. Oh Yeah, bring it ON I now own two, and am shopping a third 3D NAND SSD. No Moving Parts is a winner. Nothing to break and wonderfully quiet and cool. And small, very small These SanDisk and WD SSD drives have been very reliable, fast and they are being priced lower and lower all the time. What is there to not like about these devices They are greatThis is one that would get ten stars if they had that

This isnt the fastest SSD out there, but it does what you want it to do at a decent price. Ive been a fan of WD for about 15 years now and have yet to regret a WD purchase Ive made. Ive been building computers for 25 years and used to like Seagate drives, until their build quality started getting dismal… every since I switched to WD I havent had a hard drive problem. Ive had plenty of problems with motherboards, RAM and PSUs, but I dont have to worry about hard drives.

I have always been a WD consumer when it comes to drives and this SSD is no exception. Fast right out of the gate and no issues that I can find. My tests were run on Windows 10×64,AMD 8Core,16GB ram,and a Sabertooth 990FX R2. People have complained about the 3 year warranty but with how fast tech is changing in our world, you should be replacing your equipment every 3 to 5 years anyway. So the warranty for me is not a problem. Ran my test against a PNY Optima 240GB SSD and a Samsung 830 512Gb. WD out performed the PNY by a long shot and at times was neck and neck with the 830. Though in the end the 830 did out perform the WD SSD. Overall I like this drive a lot and for the price you could get others for cheaper. I wouldnt as WD has always made good drives and stood behind their products. To me that makes the difference when I decide what hardware I will buy. If you want to build a rig with this SSD I saw go for it and you will not regret it at all. WD Seq R345 W352 4K. R33 W71 Samsung 830 Seq. R367 W377 4K. R33 W75 PNY Seq R245 W252 4k. R27 W56

This appears to be a good drive for the price considering the performance and warranty however my tested sequential read of 321 MBs and write of 408 MBs are below the advertised maximum. I cant comment on durability but have always used WD drives and never had an issue. I would not mark a drive down for looks but IMO WD could use a logolabeling update. If the drive is going to show as is the case in many newer cases, the white and blue is not particularly flattering.

This review is for the WD Blue SSD 500GB model WDS500G2BOA. This is a 2.5 inch form factor drive. For this review its running firmware X61130WD. This drive surprised me from the get go. I own and use 16 SSDs in my home PCs. These drives come from a variety of Vendors and sizes 128GB1TB…and includes WD, Samsung, Mushkin, Sandisk, Kingston, etc. While all have performed well the Samsung EVO line has always been my gold standard for main stream SSDwith the pro for more high end 2.5 inch. The price and performance for the EVO line was unmatched for years. In the past year competitors have been producing drives that encroach in the territory. This WD blue is one of them. While it doesnt beat the EVO in every category its performance is compelling. For the purpose of comparison Ill compared the WDS500G2BOA vs the other 2 SSDs in the test rig. The test rig is running Windows 10 x64 Pro i76700k, 16GB ram, using a Gigabyte Z170xUD5 THCF motherboard The competing drives are of course the WDS500G2BOA firmware X61130WDvs the Samsung 850 EVO 500GB firmware EMT02B6Q vs Mushkin ECO3 480G firmware 01126A Scores in UserBench were as follows In sequential readwrites WD Read 516 Write 504 Mixed 505 SS EVO. As can be seen the current weak spot of the new WD blue is it 4k performance aka smaller files. Being a newer drive time will tell if Western Digital can improve this area with a firmware update. As far as benchmarks go results can vary depending on which program you use to test. Overall I am impressed, and at the time of this review theres been no firmware updates yet. If WD can improve the weaker 4k results this drive can become a great seller and that would change my review from a 4 EGG to 5 EGG review

recommended part. I use these regularly WD Blue SSD, not just 500gig sized parts for upgrade of older servers which were originally deployed with some form of spinning rust drives SATA, SAS, etc. net result is always the same great boost in performance for old system. Obviously these drives work fine in normal laptops PCs as well. But their reliabilitywarranty make them a good pick for a variety of uses IMHO.

The C drive in my gaming laptop is a 250 gigabyte SSD and my D drive was a 1 terabyte 7200 rpm HDD and I was running out of storage space for all my games. The D drive is very easy to replace in an Acer Predator gaming laptop, so I bought the WD Blue 2 terabyte drive to replace the SSD. I used Macrium Reflect to transfer the files and increase the storage size to 2 terabytes on the transferred partition. It didnt take long to do this and I was up and running. This all happened about 5 months ago, and so far, the WD Blue SSD is performing quite well and I am very happy with it.

The 2TB Western Digital SATA disk is wonderful. My i7 PC boot time has gone from nearly two minutes to about 20 seconds. I had no problem cloning my HDD to the SATA, and the performance improvement is amazing. The warranty helped to convince me to make the change.

Apart from the cloning of an old hard drive, the actual installation of this piece of kit took about twenty minutes and its had a huge impact on how well my laptop runs. The difference between the old HDD and this new one was like night and day. A previously sluggish and unresponsive laptop has been transformed into something that is a pleasure to work with.Great service and quick delivery given were in the middle of a global pandemic

Overall its a decent drive and I know you get what you pay for. I have older computers so cant take advantage of the 6Gb Sata connecters. On 3 Gb connecter is runs about a 246 on sequential read with crystaldiskmark. Its about the same as Samsung 860 or Crucial MX500. On and older computer I would buy whichever one is on sale. But for the price and warranty this drive is hard to beat..

I have been using a Radeon R7 480GB SSD for the past 2 years, and get ATTO speeds of 560MBs Read and 530MBs Write. With this new WD Blue 250GB SSD, I get a bit slower ATTO speeds of 495MBs Read and 470MBs Write. Crystal BenchMark also shows the WD Blue a bit slower than then Radeon R7. But in real world use, fully booting my Windows 7, both the Radeon R7 and WD Blue are within 2 seconds of each other. Since the warranty on the WD Blue drive is only 3 years, I cant really see it as a primary SSD where you want it to last more than a few years. Usually I recommend replacing a SSD 6 months before the warranty is out, otherwise you may risk possible data loss. Since my Radeon R7 that I use as a primary Win 7 boot drive has a 4 year warranty, and Ive used it for 2 years, would look at replacing it in another 1820 months before possible failure at the 4 years mark.

I have seen a 100 loading speed to my console, I play warframe, the game would normally load in 1min. 40secs. . With this upgrade, now I am getting 50sec. loading of the game. Now in game loading speeds, also a massive increase in speed, normally I would have to wait 30secs. on loading screen to get to a mission, now I just wait an average of 15secs.So if you are thinking about it too, just go for it. Make sure to get the REINSTALL DATA on a flash drive. Do not confuse it with the update data. You will find it at playstation website.

Easy installation and setup as is the case with most ssds. Just built the pc and havent had much free time to use it. Gave it 4 stars just because there were no hiccups going in. Cant give it 5 stars just because I havent had a chance to test it other than initial setup.

As a DJ that uses Vinyl Emulation software a quickly rebooting computer is needed when technical issues require that you reboot your computer. That was not going to happen with my current hard drive. After the upgrade the computer boots in 23 seconds and I can log in and have my software running in another 10 seconds. I also dont have to worry about mechanical failure from my OS drive now. I am very happy with my purchase.

As others have stated the same thing, I knew about the initialization in advanced. Did a quick plug in, two separate ways, on two separate computers. I installed as primary drive and used a usb copy of windows 10 to install win10 onto drive. After that, was able to transfer it back onto the usb adapter, initialize, then formatted.

The last time I bought a storage drive from Newegg was a 1TB Western Digital Black back in 2010. Its on its last legs, so I finally upgraded to a solid state drive and it boots up lightning fast. My PC is more responsive in pretty much every situation, it even runs games better, so I can now go a little bit longer without completely rebuilding my desktop gaming PC. I highly recommend putting your OS on an SSD, growling heck

Fantastic drive Easy to install, no moving parts so no noise, ridiculously fast. And a 5 year warranty. And all for less than 60. Will be buying a again. With windows 10, Im up and running from power on to using my PC in less than 30 seconds. Bliss. Highly recommended.

WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal SSD SATA III 6Gbs 2.57mm Solid State Drive WDS100T2B0A I use this drive as a game drive, at first everything was fine. Then one day I started Ghost Recon Breakpoint and it was stuttering and hitching like mad. Tried everything to fix it but nothing worked, then I decided to install the game to my Intel 660p NVME and the game worked perfectly. This was the case with other games as well, such as Ghost Recon Wildlands and Borderlands 3. Thing is I had a WD Blue 500Gb SSD drive installed before this one and had no problems with that drive. Guess I got a bad drive. Ive already created an incident report. RMA will be next.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a 1TB SSD. The only thing is, which does not concern the SSD, the transfer software I have used before and wasnt too happy with it. But, I seen another reviewer before I received this that said use Macrium Reflect to do the transfer. It transferred different sized drives 480GB to 1TB SSD flawlessly. It even booted up without having to mess with the boot loader. Could not have been happier with this product. Id buy it again, which might happen soon.

I didnt sleuth these devices out. I decided it was time that the home server had an upgrade to the os hosting device. I wanted two SSDs to make into a redundant root fs and put some pep into basic operations. I installed debian buster in a VM, using an external USB hot swap enclosure, on them and then popped them out when I got a chance to shutdown the home server. The home sever has regular hot swap bays in a 4U enclosure. Unsurprisingly this caused no issues and the new server instance booted first time. Saw exactly the performance difference youd expect going from spinning rust to ssd. fs write throughput was 1.1GBs, so no complaints.

I have never had a old school WD Hdd fail on me in 15 years of building PCs . I have now pruchased 3 of the SSD 2.5 SATA drives the WD Digital Blue and they just perform exactly as the packet says. I have one as my windows 10 boot partition and recovery points. A 500gb as my gaming drive for things like Metro and Control. And I also upgraded my PS4 to one from the clunky old thing it gets shipped with. The PS4 is like a new beast since. I trust these drives completely. I will always recommend them over other brands for a good stock SSD on a mid level price bracket.

I have now updated all my familys laptops, replacing conventional hard drives with these Western Digital SSD drives. Laptop performance is now easily 10 times faster, if not more. By also purchasing USB3 external cases I am able to reuse the original drives as backup or additional storage at very little cost.

This replaced a 3.5in HDD in a desktop PC i had already put 8gb ram in its an old i5 and the business was still complaining that their Rx software was lagging. This took the on to desktop boot time from about 2 minutes down to 16 seconds and loads their Rx software PioneerRx down to exactly where they dont complain any longer. I benchmarked it at around 500Mbs vs. the Seagate HDD at 150Mbs readwrite so around 5x faster

Transferring 400 gbs video and audio data from 7200 WD 1 TB to it took about an hour. Transferring 400 gbs from Crucial SSD to it took about 13 minutes which puts write speeds right in target. I usually use WD and have never had a failed drive in my 30 years of using them on a 247365 system. The 7 years with Crucial have also been great.

I have always been very satisfied with WDC hardware, and the 5 year warranty on a midgrade drive is hard to beat. No stars off for the software, but if I had to rate it separately it might get 1. WDC, your own help forums are full of complaints like mine. Cloning disks is mature tech. Yall should be able to offer up reliable freeware to your customers to support your hardware. I do this kind of stuff because it is fun. Not all of your customers can afford to think of it that way. Many thanks to all the Acronis victims who offered up their experiences on the WDC forums. I could not have solved this without the benefit of your sharing. Shame that no one from WDC is monitoring those boards. They might learn something.

I have a problem, and its that I love storage. Im a gamer, and I sometimes do video editing, and I just love not having to worry about storage. I also run a game server for my friends. Almost all of the drives I use at this point are WD SSDs, and I have not had any problems with any of them. Would absolutely recommend and will almost certainly buy again when I need to.

Followup Still running strong, very pleased. Original I replaced a slow mechanical drive with this one in a laptop for the operating system. I received a hardware error trying to install but that was my fault. Resetting BIOS to defaults worked like a charm, a tip I found online. This drive is extremely fast compared to my previous drive which is mechanical. I am saving it as a backup, of course. This drive breathes life into my older laptop, although when I bought it the machine had pretty decent specs. This laptop now should last me years. Time will tell, of course.

Yes, this drive is nosy. Whenever it gets accessed it emits high pitch buzzing noise. This is most likely supply circuit resonance on capacitors or coils. It is VERY annoying. You can hear it loud and clear as typical electronic hissbuzz. No this is not a fluke, I have ordered two drives and both have this noise. None of my other Samsung, Toshiba or Patriot drives have it. This is most likely result of marginal design or componentsmanufacturing. As a result I have returned both of them. Will avoid this or other WD drives in the future as they most likely share the same design.

Mind you I love my new SSD, however it could use more instructions for the novice. Im pretty sure with Youtube and the like out there the information is readily available, but it would have been a nice thing to have. Im not a gamer so I dont know how it affects that group, but for me it cut down boot time tremendously and it freed up my old hard drive to be extra storage. Really though it was very simple to put install, just get SATA cables, find housing for the drive, clone my old hard drive, transfer data, change boot sequence, and done. I know some SSDs include software to clone your old hard drive, but really for the price it wasnt necessary. Just download free copy of Macrium Reflect

I purchased this solid state drive to upgrade my moms computer. Its performance is excellent The ssd provides a dramatic increase in speeds to the entire operating system, providing greatly enhanced responsiveness and significantly reducing update times. Users will discover that a wide variety of tasks are now much faster, especially opening applications and moving files and data. Western Digital is doing a great job with their ssds. I have had experience with a number of WD ssds, and I have always been pleased with their fast performance and high quality.

Pros This has totally transformed my laptop. I was thinking about buying a new oneas I had to start it up and leave it 15 mins before I could use. Even then it was slow. I tried all the usual things like reloading windows, deleting files etc. Then I read about these. It has never run so fast even when it was brand NEW. starts up in seconds even from full shut down.Cons Cant fault it

I was rebuilding my media PCworkstation, which has to handle large lumps of data. Raw AV and HD video capture, manipulation and streaming are probably the biggest tasks that a computer deals with. The meaty software that is used to capture and edit video requires speed and space, and I had a VHS video tapes project to do. This involved realtime capture of the raw AV, and the subsequent editing and rendering to DVD. The system needs to be very nippy to cope with this. I had experimented with a 240 GB SSD, which I found could capture AV certainly up to 30fps, easily and without dropping frames. So, now I needed to go BIG to afford the space that was needed for raw clips, as well as the speedy transfer ability. I researched, and eventually bought the 2TB Western Digital, Blue series SSD and combined this with Hauppuage HDPVR Capture Hardware, and Corel Video Studio Pro x10 and 2020 editing software. The system platform is Windows 10 x64 Pro. No frames were dropped at all and editing went smoothly throughout the whole project. The DVD enduser was very happy with the results… Precious memories now digitised and archived for a lifetime. For the speedfreaks,.. From the button, boottime to desktop is currently less than 25 secs, if I cut out the sign in. Delighted with that and the other bonuses as well… Less case heat, and quiet operation at a fraction of the footprint and weight. Cant comment on lifeexpectancy, other than to say the WD figures look impressive enough. I have had hard disk failures in the past, and consequently lost data. I finally got round this issue by running WD EARX Green series in Mirror RAID config, and will probably seek to do the same soon with WD Blue SSDs. About to commence a new project which involves capture from Hi8 and SVHS AV tapes. With this really a much crisper media PC, Im quite looking forward to it.

Bought for a 2012 Macbook Pro. The computer still ran well but had frequent hiccups where it just stopped responding for a minute or so then normal again for 1015 minutes. I upped the ram, but no change. I slapped this and and what a smooth experience. I cant speak to longevity, but am very impressed so far

This SSD is my third brand that I have used and is also the fastest. I originally installed this in my laptop for use and quickly learned just how fast it was and switched it to my aging desktop. This drive breathed new life into an old desktop thanks to its speed, which was an issue with some older SSD I have used. I am attributing this to WD use of 3d Nand and the controller they used which imo is much better than what they used in their first foray into SSD. I used this drive as a main operating system drive and from complete shutdown to full start the desktop booted in less than 20 seconds. With my prior SSD the computer still took anywhere from 45 seconds to a minute and a half, thankfully I use to leave it on all the time due to that but now I can turn it off as needed without worry about waiting for a long startup. The read and write speed is great and one of the reasons I will be looking to replace all the drives I have with these, heres to hoping its longevity will out last its mediocre 3 year warranty.

These could be the best SSDs ever created, but youll never know. The installation procedure is so tainted by the abysmal clone utility, you are forced to hate the drives, hate Acronis and hate WD. First, the clone software will refuse to install unless it finds a WD drive. Connecting the new SSD via USB gets you past that, but it then refuses to run unless it finds a WD drive installed in the system. This is most inconvenient in the case of a laptop. Next, you note six or more new services running and something like twenty new items hooking into the OS listed by autoruns. Its already looking bad. So, you swap the drives and try booting from the original spinning drive over USB. Up comes the ominous BSOD twice, three times, apparently forever. You put the spinning drive back in the computer and you still get the same BSOD. Forever. Acronis has corrupted your hard drive. You are forced to reinstall the OS from CD onto the new SSD, which means the partitions are not properly aligned because Windoze is unaware of any need to do that. Searching online, you find the old alignment utility is no longer offered by WD not that you could ever trust any software offered by WD anyway, leaving you with an unaligned drive, which can never be trimmed. In the end, the laptop boots fast and runs fast, but who knows how it will perform over the long term. There is a reason Samsung owns the SSD market, and it is a simple one. The clone software that comes with the their drives does its job without a threering circus and a letter from the President of the Universe. With a Samsung drive, you install the software, run it, do the clone and swap in the new drive. It leaves one service running, which is easy to kill, and is, otherwise, quick, simple and effective. And it can be run once a month or so to do a trim. WD should stick to selling spinning drives. It is obvious they have no idea how to compete in the SSD market.

I bought this to replace my 8 year old 2 TB HDD that was starting to show its age. This was the only 2TB SSD available that didnt completely kill my budget, so it was a bit of a nobrainer to select this one. Installing into my machine was about as quick and easy as any other drive I have installed. I ran into a whole bunch of problems trying to clone my HDD, but I dont believe the problems were because of the SDD. I wound up with a clean install of Windows 10. The OS was completely installed in less than 20 minutes. I am very happy with this SDD, particularly how fast it transfers data, even on old SATA 2 connections. I would definitely recommend this item.

Ever since my computer was built it has been constantly crashing multiple times in a row with memoryrelated errors. Plus it takes forever to boot when it boots at all. It takes several minutes each time, and then it often crashes again as soon as it boots.I like WD for hard drives but this SSD is a lemon. I am looking to replace it ASAP and to buy cloning software so I dont have to reinstall everything yet again. This SSD has been very bad for my anxiety.

WD acquired SanDisk in 2016. SanDisk is a leading manufacturer of memory technologies so this offering from WD is expected to leverage their deep knowledge base. I think you can certainly buy with confidence, and I still enthusiastically recommend, just make sure youre indeed buying this for consumer purposes and be cognizant of the degree of write cycles your usage requires so youre not caught unaware. Again, Ive never personally had an SSD failure in 7 years and Id consider myself an average user with moderate write cycles in my normal usage. I also dont believe WD would put their reputation on the line for a series of SSDs that underperformed. So, buy with confidence and plan accordingly.

Bottom line at the top I would not recommend a WD SSD, even if the price drops far below equivalent Crucial drives. Crucial drives are just as good, and the cloning process is as smooth as it can be. Not so for WD SSDs. First, the package comes with no pointer to the WD version of Acronis cloning software or WD dashboardmanagement software. You have to do your own searches, and pay careful attention to whether you end up on the WD site or not. Looking for the specific product on the WD site didnt get me to the correct software. Eventually, I found what I was looking for, but it took awhile. In contrast, Crucial packaging points directly to the software required. Second, the WD dashboard software is incredibly slow at detecting the drive. It took several minutes for it to detect the new drive. In contrast, Crucial management software takes a few seconds. Third, although the drive was detected by the dashboard software, it was not detected by the AcronisWD cloning software installer, so the cloning software refused to install, saying I didnt have a WD drive. The drive was attached to a standard SATAtoUSB3 adapter, which works just fine with Crucial and all other Windows and Linux cloning software Ive used. I contacted support about this, after being shuffled around, their solution was to ask to take remote control of my computer and apply the fix themselves. We have a strict policy never to allow anyone even vendors we contact to take remote control of any system in out network, so that approach wasnt going to fly. Since I wouldnt allow this, their advice was to go buy some other cloning software, and it should work with any of them. Instead, I did more research and found an obscure post that suggested connecting any WD drive to the system, so that the AcronisWD installer would see a WD drive. I happened to have a external WD HDD, so I attached this to the system, and then the cloning software installed perfectly. Simple workaround, but it requires that you have another WD drive on hand to appease the AcronisWD installer. At the very least, the support folks should have known about this workaround, and offered it as an alternative to either relinquishing control of the system to them or going out and buying some cloning software. Of course, the correct solution would be to correct the AcronisWD installer so that it recognizes the SSD properly, even when connected via USB. I have purchased and installed several Crucial MX500 SSDs, and have never had any issues like this. This is the first WD SSD I have purchased and installed, and based on this experience, it will probably be the last.

Western Digital drives have proven reliable over the years for me. Western Digital allows you to use Acronis to transfer everything to your new drive from the old drive. Breaths new life into older computers when you replace the mechanical drive with a solid state. You can find Acronis for download at Western Digitals site. This version of Acronis only works if a Western Digital drive is involved. I help a lot of people who are older and use the computer sparingly. Browsing and email is it for a lot of people I know. Watching video is the most demanding thing some of them do.

Hi my names Trevor, I am going to tell you why I think these drives are a great buy. Firstly and most importantly for me has to be quality, price and performance. When my gaming friends first mentioned SSD drives and suggested I buy some it is something I had to consider as I could see in game at the time they were faster than I was and after asking them what they were using we made equipment comparisons and I realised ssd drives were a good idea. Quality wise looking at these drives they look pretty much like any other ssd drives on the market with nice decals and some performance information printed on the front of the drive as they are standardised at 2.5 They are reasonably and competitively priced with other manufacturers drives and there are a lot of drives to choose from. The Performance increase I have noticed since using these drives is a lot better than the old sata 2 disk drives I was using, I also own and would recommend a 3TB WD 6 Gbs red nas drive for storage. They are a little slower than high end Samsung drives however as you may well know and can see for yourself the premium price. I made my choice and I am very happy with my Blue Western Digital SSD, I think you would be happy too.

This excellent SSD made my Optiplex 7010 more responsive overall as expected. Restarts that were painfully slow are now quick. I can open Windows Media Player and music is instantly there rather than wait a few seconds for it to pop in.I chose WD Blue over Crucial BX due to 5year warranty and 250GB as compared to 3warranty and 240 GB for nearly the same price as Crucial. Pennies to around a dollar difference depending on website.

COMPANY HISTORY AND BRANDING A little history WD bought SanDisk for about 19 billion last year. Sandisks manufacturing partner is Toshiba. Together, Toshiba and Sandisk ramped up 3D NAND production for the mobile device market and 3D BiCS NAND has been shipping for about a year. The third revision which is 64layers high is what is being used in this SSD which is essentially the same as the Sandisk Ultra 3D SSD product. This WD Blue brand is aimed at system builders and resellers while the Sandisk brand is aimed at brick and mortar stores and endusers looking for upgrades. NAND, 3D NAND, and BiCS There are three main types of NAND flash. Singlelevel cell SLC 1 bit per cell on or off Multilevel cell MLC 2 bits per cell Triplelevel cell TLC 3 bits per cell. Endurance usually goes down with more bits per cell. Putting the cells on a sheet is 2D NAND. 2D NAND also called planar or singlelayer NAND has encountered challenges in achieving higher densities due to celltocell interference as the cells got smaller and closer together.. 3D NAND has multiple layers of cells allowing for higher capacity in a smaller space. This also results in reduced power consumption and higher data write performance. Samsung was first to produce 3D NAND and called it VNAND. WDSandisk partnership with Toshiba calls it BiCS Bit Cost Scaling. 3D NAND generally uses MLC or TLC flash. BiCS uses TLC. Only this year did Toshiba start delivering 512Gb chips. Last year was limited to 256Gb chips. Their latest chips have 64 layers. NAND PRICE The 3D NAND market has for the most part been completely gobbled up by the cell phone manufacturers. Most manufacturers are spending a lot on converting fabrication plants to 3D NAND so the hope is that prices will drop soon but with Apple stocking up on components for the new iPhone, NAND prices are expected to remain high through the rest of the year. This drive is costcompetitive as of my writing.

Needed something bigger to replace a 128gb drive. Never done this before so I chose the 500gb over 1tb thinking it wouldnt be such a waste of money if it didnt work. Installed in about 10 minutes plus half an hour to reinstall Windows. Works great, really fast and wish I had gone for the 1tb now.

Stay tuned…

Great upgrade for older laptop. My moms Dell Latitude e6520 had been sitting on a shelf unused for over a year. It was very easy to replace the original HD for two reasons 1. WD cloning software was very easy to use and made the drive swap plug n play. 2. Why cant all laptops be as easy as this Dell was to swap a drive Turn four screws, swap drives, turn four screws, done.

However, an 8 adapter piece fixed this quickly and easily.SSD was very easy to plug into the rig, loaded right up, and is indeed 1TB of space. I now doubled my storage space and the load times on my PC are INSANE

I bought this SSD to create a new, larger system drive for my Mac Pro 5,1. Following a clean install of OS and all apps and other software, the drive failed to boot after just two days of normal use. All attempts to repair, recover and reformat have failed under both Mac OS and Windows 10. I have about 10 other SSDs going back a number of years Crucial, OWC, Samsung, Mushkin this is the first that Ive ever had fail. Most have just been relegated other tasks as I have replaced my system drive every couple of years. I have contacted WD support but have no response after 5 days. Very disappointed as I have had good luck with WD spinning drives over many years.

I dont know what to think. I had two of these drives connected as RAID 1. They functioned flawlessly and were very fast for about 6 months. Then all of the sudden, at least one drive failed, the other seems OK but I just found out it is damaged as well. The RAID controller is also damaged. I am not sure whether it was the drives I suspect it was or the Raid controller that caused the issue. The company that makes the controller is analyzing it now. Western Digital has replaced one of the SSD drives and I may be sending them the second drive which is acting weird. As far as the delivery for this additional replacement drive, the packaging, the speed of response, and the website, WalMart has been great. I now rely on WalMart because prices are usually the same or better than Amazon and the shipping is super fast and mostly free. If you are not Amazon Prime, they play a silly game. The product might be shipped immediately and sit in a UPS or USPS warehouse for a week rather than be delivered. I have tracked packages where it took one or two days to reach my city only to have it sit for a week before delivery. I guess this is punishment for not being PRIME. So that is why WalMart is now my choice supplier.

Cloned an older laptop HDD to this using the free version of Acronis provided. Easy to install and got the expected speed increase that comes with SSD. Having been an IT provider for the last 20 years, I can say without question, that SSD disk drives are the largest real feel speed increase in the last decade. Where a lot of other upgrades boast some theoretical speed increases largely leveraged by power users the SSD drives actually make old computers and new computers without SSD drives faster and more enjoyable for all users. While its unfortunate that WD doesnt offer a warrantee of the same length as its competitors their designation of being a blue line drive means its aimed at cost conscious consumer computer users. Id wager a STRONG bet that they will be following up these drives with Red, Purple, Black product lines which favor even better performance or operation time before failures just as they have marketed their spindled hard disk drives. Having been through the warrantee process a handful of times of Western Digital I can tell you that they do stand behind their products and if a drive does fail its very easy to get an exchange from them. My final recommendation is that if you know why you might like another SSD over this one then you are probably right. If you are just looking for your first SSD drive go for it and get this SSD drive. Its a high quality, bangforyourbuck option which includes the Acronis True Image software that makes the upgrade something doable for your average computer user.

I bought this to upgrade my now 12 year old pc. It was running windows 7 and needed to upgrade to windows 10 and decided to upgrade the primary drive to SSD at the same time. It took about 7 mins to boot on my old system and now takes about 35 seconds My old WD drive served me well and heres hoping this one does the same and initial signs are good. It was a matter of fitting and no issues with loading win 10. I needed a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter but bought one in advance so about 12 hour to fit and I was away Only time will tell for reliability but looking good so far. Extremely pleased.

I bought this to put in an old ThinkPad I had with a failing hard drive. I dropped this in and put a fresh install of Win10 and it was ready to go. The boot speed is rabbitlike compared to the spinner drives. I then gave it to my younger brother, who now loves to play Minecraft on it Definitely recommend this if you need a way to breath new life into an old computer. Never had any issues with WD drives.

I had always considered Western Digital drives to be quality drives. This one felt flimsy but I told myself ahh, its just a plastic shell for those chips it isnt going anywhere Little did I know that the guts are probably cheap too. Now that these are installed around the office and everyone took stations home for quarantine, Im getting nervous about this apparent junk hardware. A real disappointment

Purchased this to switch from a spinning platter HDD to SSD for video projects. Snatched this on a great sale. Installation was trouble free whens the last time you had a problem with a 2.5 SATA drive these days. Only thing missing that left a star off is longevity, as this just got installed in my editing workstation. Time will tell, will update if there is anything happening with the drive. Else, definitely recommended if you can catch it on sale

For a software engineer or anyone who fetches large numbers of files, this product may save a lot of time and money. Since my main PC motherboard failed it was necessary to switch over to using an older PC with a traditional hard disc. The figures speak for themselves with the original HDD it took over 35mins to compile the software here, with this product the compilation takes less than 5mins. I think this product provides the greatest performance improvement for the money when installed in an older PC using a traditional hard disc.

Even though Western Digital was late in the game with SSDs, they are still the top company for any type storage related drives in my opinion. The tests results prove its worth as a competent drive. The max tech specs for the drive are 560MBs READ and 530MBs Write. I ran three tests with three different benchmark tools. Here are the top results ATTO Disk Benchmark 256MB run READ 558MBs WRITE 532MBs Crystal Disk Mark 1GB x 3 run READ 559MBs WRITE 529MBs AS SSD Benchmark 1GB run READ 520MBs WRITE 470MBs As you can see, the number from the first two real world application come close to the max readwrite as specified for the drive. The WD Blue 2TB SSD is what it says it is. Expect to get what you pay for. I highly recommend this SSD.

Without any issues this SSD is now installed in an older Dell Inspiron laptop. Boot time of the computer went from 1 minute 40 seconds to 20 second. The numbers speak for themselves, excellent upgrade for the money.

Bought 6 of these to upgrade old office PCs and milk another year or so out of them. They are Dell Win 7 machines, and now boot in 1520 seconds vs 23 min before. Everything launches quicker, too, and the SSDs give the impression of a much faster computer without having a faster CPU or memory. Within reason. Wont necessarily speed up already running programs. But, for these old ones that only have 4 GB RAM, it should also speed up shuffling data in RAM to the pagefile virtual RAM. I used Macrium Reflect to clone each of the drives, using a USB3 external hard drive case made for quick swapping of drives, in case anybody cares.

I received the product on time but it was for a future build . 3 months later after all my parts had been ordered i began the build and to my surprise inside the WD ssd box shilled was a OCZ vertex 4 256 ssd so upset . The return period had already expired so i had to eat it. Be sure to check your merchandise when you get it.

To my surprise, this tested faster in my system than the Samsung 860 EVO product in the 2tb size. The advantage is measurable but not noticeable less than 5, but still, this is a strong showing for WD. This was actually the cheaper of the two products at the time of purchase. The Samsung product is noticeably better built, holding the two in your hand this feels and looks chintzier, but these differences are ultimately inconsequential. If you have an open NVMe slot, stop reading this and just buy the NVMe. SSDs like this are staggeringly fast compared to their spinningdisk predecessors, but the speed is bottlenecked by SATA. Today you can buy a NVMe that is literally six times as fast as this WDs SN750 reads at 2895MBs in my system for about 150 of the cost per gigabyte. If you care at all about performance, 6x speed for 1.5x cost should be a nobrainer. If you need the SATA io, 2.5 form factor, or extremely high capacity in a single drive, this is a fine choice, and it is a good value compared to other SATA SSDs. But looking at the storage market broadly and factoring speed against cost against capacity, this product is not a very good value. In my case my two NVMe slots are used and I needed big bulk storage for project files, so this does the job nicely. Two cons to know about this product first, this 3D NAND storage does have a finite writeoverwrite endurance. In most applications you will never run into it, but if your intention is to use this for something where it is getting written and overwritten constantly, e.g. a scratch disk for media creation applications, this might limit the lifespan of this product though for all but the most extreme applications, it is probably still within tolerances for reasonable drive life. The other con is that WD hides a binding arbitration clause in the fine print of their manual. Unless you notice it and waste time and a stamp to opt out, you are deprived consumer protection that are considered normal in America i.e. getting in on a class action suit were the product to prove defective. Lots of companies do this now, but it is a shady move suggesting low confidence in the product and low commitment to consumer satisfaction longterm. Par for the course today, I guess. TLDR Good showing as SATA SSDs go, but skip these entirely and go to NVMe if you can, at current prices they are a much more attractive option. I bought this WD Blue 1TB SSD to replace a hard drive that I thought was the likely cause of some data corruption experienced in a desktop topline computer. It required also buying an SATA III cable and a 2.5 to 3.5 adapter bracket to fit in the desktop bay since they are not included with the drive. The drive did not come with any useful instructions, but this procedure worked 1. Shut down 2. Leave original drive as is connect new drive to power and an unused SATA port on motherboard 3. Power up. Normal but new drive does not show in My Computer 4. Run Acronis software available free from WDs site a. Select Clone disk and automatic mode b. It identified the old and new disks c. It ran about 1.5 hours and cloned the original drive, including all partitions and 500 GB of data d. It shut down computer automatically 5. Disconnected power and SATA cable from old drive 6. Connected new drive to the SATA port on motherboard where old drive had been 7. Powered up. It booted OK. Everything seems fine. Boot up and opening programs seems about 5 times faster than with the original spinning disk hard drive. I cant evaluate long term reliability, but my initial impression is excellent.

I would recommend this device without reservation. I have used several of these devices over about 2 years and have not encountered any failures or other problems. Very useful for high volume photo storage.

I have purchased a lot of Western Digital hard drives in my day, but the WD Blue 3D 250GB is my first SSD from them. Initial impressions Looks like most any other SSD. However the all plastic construction does feel a little less solid than most the other SSDs I have owned, which tend to be at least partially shelled in metal and offer a less pliable construction. But to be honest, once in your case it should not matter. Extras Not a lot offered really in terms of extras, but that is expected for a 250GB drive at this price point. The WD monitoring software is decent and offers a look into some helpful data points like drive life, temp, utilization and can also update the firmware. Additional Info If I recall, this is WDs second stab at a SSD. This time they decided to go with 3D TLC NAND and a Marvell controller. It is backed by a 3 year warranty which is okay, but lower than some competitors in this price tier. Pricing is currently 99, which is about average for this segment. Performance A lot of the current SSDs are very similar in terms of overall peaks speed these days. The limitation is the SATA III interface that is being used. But, random readwrites and IOPS can vary greatly between SSDs. See testing results below Crystal Disk Mark Read MBs Write MBs SEQ 543.0 520.3 512k 401.1 509.5 4k 45.5 136.2 4kQD32 398.0 351.8 IO Meter 4k random Read 93558 Write 58427 As you can see performance overall is quite good. Only the Write IOPS in IOMeter that looks off, but it could be exclusive that that specific test. Conclusion Overall I am pleased with the WD Blue 3D NAND 250GB SSD. It is priced competitively, performs well and fully deserves consideration. Yes the 3 year warranty is a bit of a let down compared to the 5 year with Samsung, but is still decent. Recommended.

I use it for the Atomos Ninja V to record 4K off my Sony a7iii.It is the cheapest 1TB and most compatible according to Atomos, and its true. Theres no restriction recording ProRes RAW HQ. Also theres no frame skipping notice on the screen with this drive.WD has always been reliable for me. Highly recommended

Needed an SSD for my sons PC to try and overcome some video artifacts in the Avengers game. It didnt work, but that isnt really the drives fault. It worked great Installed, formatted and ran like a charm. Built out a new PC for my son and this is now his Data drive. If you dont have an M2 slot but want the advantages of SSD, this is the ticket.

My wifes laptop was essentially useless. It was only a little under 2 years old and startup times were miserable. most applications would take a minute to start. I figured the culprit was the HDD and when I opened the machine i was surprised to see a WD Blue mechanical HDD. I figured I would up the RAM and replace the drive since it did sound noisy. The HDD alone was the culprit and this one if operating amazingly fast, even on this core i3 laptop.

I asked Acer if I could fit a 500gb ssd drive in place of 500gb hdd in my Aspire 5733z. They said No it wont fit. Scan said Yes I could. Well it did fit very easily and Wow it speeded up sign in and operation faster than its ever been. I am very pleased. Thank you Scan

I have had excellent results with WD drives for many years. Their traditional hard drives have given me long service lives, and the new SSDs work great. The usual comment after I upgrade someones PC with an SSD is Wow I didnt know it could go that fast.

Ordered this as an extra drive for my personal computer. I currently run off a 2TB Western Digital so this was meant to be my kind of replacement for that drive that would then turn into a storage drive for items that are infrequently accessed or that I dont care to get great load times with. Packing on the drive was in very good condition with no bumps or marks from shipping. The drive arrived in the expected time frame and booted with no issues at all.
Anonymous –
It is amazingly small, and simple to install and to use. I purchased the 2tb version. Once installed, my computer recognized it as a simple disk ready for formatting. I split it into two 1tb disks. I as well use it as the work disk for adobe photoshop cc 2019 and corel painter 2020, among other programs. I do not have to wait nearly as long for large images to be read or written to the ssd. What once took a 60 seconds now takes about 10 seconds. Most of that is the application program preparing the data for writing to disk or loading from disk and preparation for display on the monitor. I will use it to hold my work in progress and the current year collection of my paintings and photomanipulations. I will migrate the data for the previous year each january to external storage. I as well use it for backup my libraries to picture, music and other data and files related to my artwork. This western digital ssd seems to fit my needs and for a reasonable price. It is truly about 100,000 times cheaper than the first gigabyte of storage we purchased in the middle 1980s 20,000 versus 0.20 per gigabyte . I sure hope it lasts a long time, and stays fast.

When it comes to SATA SSDs theres not much to compare between devices as most are able to exceed SATA 3 data transfer speed. Look for warranty, price and any manufacturer software included. The WD Blue has a pretty standard 3 year warranty and while its software isnt seen as good as Samsungs when it comes to drive cloning its price is lower than an Evo so its definitely worth a place on the short list when looking at a fresh OS install or a drive for your Steam games.

Very solid drive. Updated an older i5 with 16GB RAM and Windows load times went from 34 minutes to about 30 seconds, including having all the background junk loaded and system ready to go. I didnt think just changing drives would make this big a difference but it has. Games load much faster and no longer having to wait on content to put me behind everyone else in multiplayer games. Awesome drive for a good price.
Trevor W. –
Install was fast and simple and the improvements to overall responsiveness over my old HDD are huge. Also, Im happy that the prices have come down so much recently. I just wish it came with good partition software or at least a link for download. I couldnt find any on WDs site. My old drive had 3 partitions for some reason and the cloning software I found googling free partition software wasnt great. it cloned the 3 exactly and and left unallocated space. I ended up starting over using the minitool partition wizard free found on download.cnet.com. That was able to remove the unwanted partitions, consolidate and expand, all the things I was expecting. Now that that is over with, Im very happy with my purchase.

Its really comprehensive when you compared two drive offerings but so incoherent in not to mention the price difference. The WD Blue is only a 3 year drive but those that mention that other offers a 10 year warranty, they miserably FAIL to mention that the drive cost 100 more 10, like buying a car, you add 3,000 to the cost of the vehicle when you BUY the extended warranty. In my experience, Western Digital are the most if not 2nd to none, reliable storage drives on the market Im still waiting for WD to enter the USB flash drive arena, my Green drive which I bought 8 years ago still working fine and in use in my main PC. So, when it comes to warranty is never an issue for me, they can bring it down to 1 year and I would still buy them. Samsung in the other hand I dont own any electronics made by that company, appliances either, nor will I ever. So, if you want to waste 100 to buy an extra 7 years of warranty, then good for you Western Digital drives are super fast, great warranty period and a very good price when found on sale. I bought mine for a buck twenty five.

My HDD was a 750 GB drive, so I had to Shrink my volume in Disk Management before cloning. Actual cloning time was 16 minutes, but there was not a lot to clone. I had no cloning issues with Macrium Reflect once I shrunk the volume. Once cloned, I swapped the HDD with the SDD the computer booted right up. It was still sluggish I believe I found the culprit in one of the startup applications. Technically, the laptop manufacturer doesnt support Windows 10 on this laptop. I havent tested speed yet. Some folks complained about the 3 year warranty I wonder if that recently changed as Newegg shows 5 years better check my documentation.

I bought one of these to upgrade a laptop from a mechanical hd for a friend, doing a clean install of Windows 10 at the same time, rather than migrating a chaotic old OS installation. I was a little concerned about recognition and initialisation, but it turned out that my fears were completely groundless. Installation went like a dream booting from the DVD drive the WD SSD was recognised, initialised, partitioned and formatted, all without any problems at all and incredibly quickly. I have used Samsung OVO and QVO SSDs previously but this was the first WD SSD. It will not be the last. Performance is exceptional and the price excellent. The owner of the laptop was so impressed, I got a rather large bonus

Installed this in an old I7 4770 system with a 1050ti, 16gb ram and a 1tb 7200 WD HDD and sold the system to someone I work with. Hes put at least 300 hours or so on games like Rust, The Forest, Raft and some others in the last couple months. Computer seems to still be rock solid stable. I also own a 1TB WD Blue SSD that I have in my gaming laptop.. That still gets some fantastic reads and writes after using it since June or so last year.

Replaced a HHD with this SSD and used the WD Acronis software to clone the drive. It worked perfectly. New drive booted up 3 to 4 times faster than the old drive. Apps load much faster also To do the cloning you need a Sata to USB cable to use with the Acronis software. All very user friendly. You will also need an adapter to use this 2.5 in a3.5 slot but they are inexpensive.

After about a year of it working pretty well, my computer started freezing from time to time mostly when watching youtube or downloading a game. I shrugged it off at the moment because it was a rare occurrence. However, just recently, it started freezing more and more often. We thought it was a heat issue so I reworked the ventilation in my PC. Then I ran a test to see what the freezing was. I started a download and sure enough about 25 minutes later on task manager, it said the disk usage was 100 and my computer had frozen. I tried a bunch of things but nothing seemed to work until I did some research that basically said I need a new SSD. As you can imagine, I was pretty bummed out. Luckily, I can still play most of my games still except for The Forest which freezes every 5 minutes. Its just incredibly annoying when I am downloading something and it freezes every 20 minutes or when I am watching YouTube.

I performed a couple of tests that I always use on SSDs and other drives I review, benchmarking it with CrystalDiskMark and timing a realworld data transfer by writing to the SSD while simultaneously timing with a stopwatch. Heres the results in MBs Seq Read 387.5 Write 360.7 512K Read 338.4 Write 349.9 4K Read 30.96 Write 55.07 4K QD32 Read 217.7 Write 111.1 The results are pretty average for an SSD. Nothing here to be too impressed about. In fact, I have a Samsung T3 USB 3.1 external SSD that benchmarked considerably faster than this in most catagories. However, there is a serious anomaly when I tried a test I usually do on any SSD or hard drive I review. I time how long it takes to transfer files as what I consider a more realworld test for write speeds as opposed to synthetic benchmarks. Most of the time, this realworld test shows a somewhat slower, but more authentic transfer rate than the benchmarks show. This time, however, when I timed the transfer, I got an outrageous number 1GB File Transfer Test 651 MBs I thought, that cant be right… thats much faster than anything Ive ever tested. I checked my math. I rechecked the file size, did multiple transfers and timed each one, but my results were always the same. Remember that external Samsung SSD I mentioned earlier that outperformed this internal SSD in the benchmarks Transferring that same file came out to about 263 MBs. Something seems off here, so I tried a larger file transfer, this time with multiple large files in a folder totaling about 4GB 4GB Folder Transfer Test Large Files 681 MBs Even faster Now this is just toying with my head. I grabbed another folder from another drive, this time one that had a little over 2GB worth of numerous small files. This transfer dragged on and on 2GB Folder Transfer Test Small Files 65 MBs The fact that there were just so many small files slowed it down tremendously, but somehow, large files it can transfer lightning fast. I cant explain it, but it must have something to do with the way the controller handles information being written to it. Its beyond my level of knowledge to say exactly what happened with the file transfers, but I havent seen it before in any tests Ive done on other SSDs. Regardless of how valid these results are, it is still a respectable SSD for any PC, especially if youre on a tight budget.

I would give this and other WD products another shot using more modern platform, but that would be the last time. At this time I am sticking with working, reliable and easy to install products we have been using. It is entirely possible that the platform might be at fault, but this is something that should be anticipated by a company like WD customers upgrading disks on older platforms. Like I said earlier, using other brands like Crucial and Mushkin, have never seen this happen, especially doing clean installs of Win 10. Would I recommend Maybe not at this time. Specially since time is money and troubleshooting one of these issues can be time consuming. Western Digital support has not replied to email sent in over 36 hours. So, as far as support is concerned, it is nonexistent.
EdStaker –
Bought this as a dedicated gaming drive for my HP prebuilt for which it is perfect. Loads games quickly with no effort and has enough room for me to have a decent selection of games on the go at once. What I would point out is that this drive has no DRAM cache so for sustained long period readwrites performance will drop off but that isnt an issue when playing games and comes more into play when using it as a system drive or one that is constantly being accessed.
David –
I would recommend this product for anyone that has a cheap laptop and want to maximize its performance. The 500GB drive is relatively cheap… so Im still trying to understand why manufacturers are putting the older platter drives in the laptops that they sell and not invest a few dollars in moving up to a solid state drive.
Garbear –
I for sure would recommend this to others. This is the second laptop that I used this exact 12 TB WD Blue SSD, and upgrading from the old spinning disk with solid state made both used have new life Both laptops just cruise along now and you can have two windows open and running at the same time.

I received this 1TB SSD and had to wait to install it due to the holidays. It was easy to clone my existing HD onto the SSD. Installing in my laptop was easy, the hardest part was accessing the HD itself. There placement was unplug HD and plug in SSD. Laptop booted up and ran with no problems at all. Now I am thinking about replacing the HD in my wifes laptop too. Id recommend this SSD to others.

My son, a computer whiz, advised me to install a new hard drive in my laptop. I purchased this in March. Installed it in my laptop. NOTHING. What with the pandemic all, I could not get to my sons for several months. He tried it on several laptops and confirmed that it was a DUD. In other words it DID NOT WORK. Since 6 months have passed I doubt I can get a refund. It is kind of irritating to buy a product that DOES NOT WORK. I wish Newegg could make this right but I dont have high hopes.

WD quality control is slipping. Do yourself a favor, and check the SMART data immediately when you install the new drive. Lots of these are shipping with a HUGE amount of bad blocks. While you may not notice a problem right away, with that many bad blocks, it will run out of blocks to replace a lot faster. The fact that I received two bad drives in a month tells me A WDs quality control is slipping, because they could have stopped these before they left the factory, and B there is a large batch of these out there, in stock at your favorite vendor… be careful…

95 of pc users dont require a drive faster than this Dont listen to the tech channels about needing the fastest drives out there, its not a big deal unless youre primary job is editing and rendering. Get this, save money, use the extra for more ram, a better gpu, a better psu, a better cpu, etc.. WD has long been the standard for great drives. For 30 years Ive been using their products and will continue to do so.

Item is in great condition. Easy to install an OS and running quiet. The good thing is lots of storage to manage media files or videos. I would recommended this to install the desktop but sure to check the specs of it first. Very light and quiet operation. Boots up 27 to 53 seconds which is fast for an SSD. Easy packaging to protect the SSD so it wont get damaged.

Ive replaced all my spinning hard drives with SSDs in the past year or so. The WD 2TB Blue replaced the last spinner in my old 2014 laptop, a Dell 5000 series, running Windows 10. I used an Aluratek drive duplicator to make an exact copy of the 1TB old drive copying it bit for bit onto the SSD. Once finished about 3 hours, I installed the SSD into the laptop, and it booted immediately. I expanded the partition on the new SSD so the full 2TB could be utilized, giving me double the storage space. The new SSD breathes new life into the old laptop. It boots in seconds, and operates much faster. It also generates less heat, and its quieter since the fan runs less. If youve got a computer that runs ok but is just slow, upgrading to a new SSD is likely to help

Ive gotten to review a lot of SSDs. This is one of the few I was very excited to get my hands on. I do keep a considerable amount of games installed and I was tired of moving things off and on my previous 480GB drive. I have more installed now than I can even keep up with and still have 1.2TBs of free space. Had I been primarily a laptop gamer, this would have been a nobrainer for me. With that said though, unless you have an absolute need for this much space youll probably be better off with one of the smaller capacity drives from this line up. WD built a solid and reliable product here one Im happy to own.

Reliable old SanDisk Ultra 3D TLC technology, has DRAM unlike some other alternative and fast enough for a drive on no the SATA interface. Although clearly not a performance champion The similarly priced Crucial MX500 is clearly more performing, Samsung 860 EVO performs better too but is often more expensive. It is a good value offering if you arent looking for high performance and on my own experience has been a very reliable model which I favor over other things. Backed by a 5 years warranty too.

It was quite easy to upgrade my old Dell Vostro 1510 laptop from HDD to SSD. After cloning, just swap out the old HDD for the new SSD and boot up. It is now runs faster, cooler, with less power consumption and has increased storage capacity. I am pleased and would recommend this.
SSD replaced HD –
This is the second time that Ive replaced a HD with a SSD to improve performance. I bought a WD SSD because I like WD HDs which may be irrelevant. I am pleased with this purchase. It will extend the life of this 6core AMD FX6100 Zambezi 3.3GHz CPU PC with 32 GB of RAM.

Finest drives Ive got in ages. I made the mistake of investing on 3 Samsung QVOs sometime ago and was happy till I realized that theyre slower than mechanical drives once you try and write more than 10GB of sequential data.None of that nonsense with this drives, as you can write the entire capacity and they will sustain 450500MBs throughout. Brilliant. Got 3 of them.

5 eggs I ordered this part to upgrade my Lenovo Ideapad. After some research I found this was the best performance SSD that would be compatible. The unit has some heft to it, indicating that the NANDs are well packed in there. My use case is for light duty personal computing. The estimated life span of the 1TB unit is well over 20 years for my purposes. I noticed an immediate drop of over 90 time required for disk intensive tasks. My bootup time and launching of MS Office applications is near enough instantaneous. If you are fed up with long boot times and waiting for up to two minutes to launch apps, I highly recommend the WD Blue SSDs. Just make sure that you order the right type of connection to be compatible with your system.

Ive been very pleased with the WD SSD drive. The speed difference is notable after I installed the hard drive. It feels like a new computer. I have a Inspiron 15, 5000 series, 8th Gen Core I7 processor running Windows 10. I did not load any of the Dell software that initially came with my laptop as all my warranties have expired.

Drive works great. The drive itself has been as close to perfect as I could expect so far. Personally I recommend using the drive warranty as a guide. If the manufacturer doesnt have faith in their product, then neither should you. The WD blue line had the longest warranty of the 2TB drives I looked at.

The first WD Blue SSD was released in 2016 and really did not bring anything new to the table, this has changed significantly with the release of this new SSD thanks to WD incorporating its cutting edge 64 layer bitcost scaling BiCS 3D TLC NAND. I took a look through WD website and according to them typical NAND SSDs rely on memory cells that are spread out horizontally, their new 3D NAND is built vertically, 64 layers high. This allows WD to increase capacity, reliability and increases the speed of data transfer between memory cells. WD also states that the endurance of these drives is class leading with 1.75million hours before failure and 500TB of data written. To put this in to perspective if you manage 20GB of data daily the drive will last for 56 years before failing Why then the 3 year warranty A little disappointing but no eggs off. The drive is not very exciting to look at, the label printed in blue and white and a standard 2.5 inch form factor, 7mm thick. The drive kept cool and quiet during testing which is to be expected due to its low current draw and no moving parts. I downloaded the free Acronis True Image software and cloned my current 1TB Mushkin Reactor MLC SSD and an additional 1TB Samsung 840 EVO SSD that I am using as a spare, in order to compare the three drives. I also installed the free WD Dashboard software on to the WD Blue SSD. The Dashboard is pretty good, displaying status and performance and allowing for firmware updates and SSD optimization. I ran two tests on all three drives, using free software that can be downloaded from the internet AS SDD and Crystal Mark. In Crystal Mark the WD drive was faster than the Mushkin and the Samsung drives with a sequential read and write score of 556MBs and 527MBs close to the maximum stated performance. The Mushkin scored 507MBs and 502MBs and the Samsung scored 532MBs and 530MBs. In AS SDD the WD scored another win showing a sequential read and write score of 528.49MBs and 509.23MBs. The new WD 3D NAND drive impressed me, it ran cool and quiet, put up performance figures that were better that the Mushkin Reactor with its MLC NAND and the Samsung 840 EVO with its 3D TLC NAND. It comes with free software, the WD Dashboard and the industry leading Acronis True Image which makes cloning existing SSDs and HDDs simple and quick. Having a 2TB SSD is great as it is spacious enough to use as both boot drive and data drive and with a mean time before failure of 1.75 million hours reliability should not be much of a concern. While paying 600 plus for an SSD sounds expensive, this is one of the cheaper 2TB drives on the market. Performance is strong and it will take some time to fill up this drive even with current game downloads of 40GB or more. My GTA V takes up 71GB Great drive, top class performance, competitive pricing, the latest 3D NAND technology and industry leading reliability. You cant go wrong with this drive. For me, the only disappointment was the relatively low 3 year warranty. But no eggs off.

The best thing to happen to computers since the multicore processor or highend graphics cards. Never buy a laptop without one of these beauties in it and swap out the DinoDrive in your laptop for one of these ultrafast high capacity WD drives. the days of waiting for your machine to boot and load programs will be practically over unless you have a desktop with a dinodrive still in it for extra storage. WD makes rocksolid drives and they are the ones I trust to put into my own machines, they are also the drives I recommend for my clients due to their reliability.

I bought this drive to replace an old hard drive in one of my computers. Im using a USB to SATA box for for the cloning process. I downloaded the Acronis WD cloning software but it does not recognize the new SSD drive and directs me to a site to buy the software. The ad for the product said Free cloning software The new drive is all formatted and ready to go…what am I missing

I have now replaced the boot HDD on two computers successfully with this SSD , one is a Lenovo Z70 laptop and another a DIY PC with the AsRock 970M Pro3 motherboard. Both computers run openSUSE Linux , work great with this drive and provide speedy boot times. However this SSD and probably other SSDs did not work with Windows XP on a MSI CR630 laptop, probably because the AMD SATA driver for XP is buggy. It worked fine with Windows 7 x64 and openSUSE Linux on the same laptop though. This drive also did not work on a computer with the Gigabyte GA78LMTUSB3 motherboard. The BIOS goes into a bootreset loop when the drive is connected.

Test system CPU is i74790K, with 16 GB of Kingston HyperX DDR31600 RAM, on an Asus Z87A motherboard, and AMD R9Fury graphics. This was used to test three SSDs as a boot drive, the WD 3D NAND 2 TB SSD, along with a previous 1TB non3DNAND SSD, and a 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO. The fastest SSD was the Samsung, with the following numbers from AS SSD Benchmark v2.0.6485.19676 Seq read 505.85 Seq write 485.38 MBs 4K read 44.21 4K write 115.97 MBs 4K64thrd read 409.52 4K64thrd write 325.96 MBs Acc. Time read 0.092 ms Acc Time write 0.028 ms Surprisingly, the Western Digital SSDs, both 2D and 3D NAND, had every similar numbers. First the 2TB 3D NAND SSD we are reviewing today Seq read 495.46 Seq write 479.99 MBs 4K read 37.53 4K write 102.59 MBs 4K64thrd read 333.71 4K64thrd write 258.31 MBs Acc. Time read 0.088 ms Acc Time write 0.088 ms And, finally, the older 1 TB 2D NAND WD SSD Seq read 480.68 Seq write 478.02 MBs 4K read 37.36 4K write 104.78 MBs 4K64thrd read 360.87 4K64thrd write 273.24 MBs Acc. Time read 0.161 ms Acc Time write 0.046 ms The total score each SSD earned in AS SSD Benchmark Samsung EVO 500 GB SSD 1268 WD 3DNAND 2 TB SSD 1058 WD 2DNAND 1 TB SSD 1114 Two things to note here first, the Samsung EVO series has always been one of the fastest SSDs available, and this 3DNAND WD SSDs performance is only slightly lower. There is no discernible difference in the numbers posted that any human would ever detect without using benchmarking tools. The other interesting fact is that the older WD non3DNAND SSD seems to have actually improved its benchmarks slightly with agealthough that may be due to using a different version of the benchmarking tool then verses now. In conclusion, though at the 2TB capacity, it is somewhat expensive, for those looking for a large, fast SSD with an extremely high endurance rating, this is the one to get. And in fairness, all 2TB capacity SSDs are going to be quite expensive, and this is one of the least expensive available at that capacity.
