I use the lens with the M8 primarily for street shots. It just work wonders focusing is spot on not as sharp as the leica , thats the reason why i love this lens. and you cant beat F2.0 you will have no problems in low light in most cases. get this lens

I purchased this lens to provide more coverage than my 35mm Summicron. The build quality is firstrate. I like the focusing tab it provides a familiar feel when using the lens on my M6. My only quibble is the lens shade external mounting threads on the lens the shade didnt stay secure on the lens. The lens is sharp. A bit soft on the edges f2 but who cares youre usually shooting in poor light at 130th anyway. Stopped down the lens is sharp across the field. Set it to f8, zone focus and you can shoot all day from the hip. I shoot BW film. The lens produces contrasty results, some of this can be tamed by adjusting processing times. I bought the lens wthe aux. viewfinder. This also exhibited firstclass build quality. Overall, a good lens in an affordable package. Id recommend the lens wout reservation.

For the price, the 28mm f2 Ultron is a great deal, especially when mounted on a Leica M8. The 1.33x crop on that camera will give you a hairs bigger focal length than a 35mm. It has pleasing bokeh, nice contrast, and is a easy performer on the streets.Of course, it will not be as sharp in the corners as a Leica Summicron, but youll really only notice that in larger prints, and even then its not signficant. When compared to a Leica, or arguably even a Zeiss, the Ultron is cheap, but it doesnt feel cheaply made nor does it give you cheap results. And, when it comes down to it, approximately 600 dollars for a rangefinder lens is cheap, but in the whole scope of things, its not pennies like a Canon 50mm Mark II f1.8. Thats a cheap lens in every sense of the word. The main negative is that the lens will show in the bottom right corner of your view finder. Then again, so will the Leica 28mm. I think the only one that doesnt do that is the Zeiss.

I studied up on this lens. The lens was simply too expensive I use this lens for street photography and low light photography. Also the size of the lens draws less attention than the faster lens. I would recommend this lens too any photographer. i love it
mandingo66 –
I use this lens on a digital rangefinder Epson RD1s. The price is great and it does the same job as expensive Leica lenses costing thousands more.
Jim –
I purchased this lens for my Sony NEX7, attached with a mmount adapter. It is solidly built, optically sharp, and a great addition to my camera bag. Manual focus and aperture adjustment are straightforward. I anticipate this lens will survive many generations of mirrorless cameras into the future. A great lens for street photography.
Peter –
Mounted on a Sony NEX 6 with a Voigtlander adapter, this lens provides 42mm equivalence and is very sharp and contrasty. The lens is small and balances well on the camera. There are no color shift artifacts. The lens is a pleasure to use with this camera, which provides great dual focus aids for manual focusing. And, the results are terrific. No noticeable distortion. Highly recommended.
handcraftedmusicalinstruments –
This lens is very easy to use, not to big and very sharp. Compared to the 281.9 I had before, this lens is much better and sharper. I use it on my Leica M8.
Jim D –
If youre looking for a wideangle rangefinder lens for your A7A7R, this is the one to get. This lens does not exhibit the magenta shiftcorner smearing that is typical of LeicaVoigtlander widetoultrawide lenses. Built like a tank with excellent aperture and focus ring feel. No distortion, but a little vignetting.
Pandamonium –
A very nice lens that is tight corner to corner. No distortion and while not a Leica lens it produces a very honest and viewable image from my M3. Nice bokeh for the buck. Use it while you save up for the Leica version, which costs several thousands more. A good medium budget match with the Minolta CLE mmount rangefinder.

I bought this lens to use on my Sony A7R as a walk around lens. I have used it for a couple of weeks and the images are good. The lens is solid and small so it makes the 7R much smaller than using my A mount lenses with the adapter. The f2.0 makes the lens excellent for low light shooting I am using the Fotodiox Pro adapter and the fit is fine. The only drawbacks is that it is hard to focus. I really cannot see a difference through the viewfinder during focusing and the focus magnifier does not work with this lens. The issue may be my eyesight, as I am older. I have had success setting the f stop at 8 or above and using the depth of field scale to focus. That seems to work well and make the lens useful for street photography. This is a good, reasonably priced alternative if you are comfortable in the manual world. It does take a little practice to use.

I am a huge fan of Voigtlander lenses and I own several in both MFT and VMmount. Up until recently, I have used them exclusively on my MFT cameras with their 2X crop factor. Now I have a Sony A7 and this has opened up a whole new world of true wide angle without the crop factor. This lens at 28mm on FF is moderately wide angle. The f2 aperture is bright enough for most applications, both for DOF and lightgathering purposes, particularly since it is sharp at this aperture and doesnt need to be stopped down like some faster lenses. It is the 2nd smallest and lightest Voigtlander lens I own, and I expect I will find this on my A7 a lot of the time. It is bigger than the 35mm f1.4 or 40mm f1.4, but I find that the wider angle and much better optics make it worth the tradeoff. Also, I want the brighter f2 aperture compared to the Voigtlander 25mm f4. The 21mm f1.8 is in a class by itself.
Salbal –
I use the Ultron 28mm f2.0 on the second camera in my bag, a very nice LeicaMinolta CLE. It is great for shooting crowd scenes, such as zoos or parades. I have also used it in museums and outdoor sculpture gardens. Its small enough to not be intimidating and wide enough for reaction shots of faces on the edge of an event. f2.0 is sufficient for close in shots with decent bokeh. Not Leicaclass optics, but cozy and comfortable for photographing small groups of people.
saurabh –
Optically solid, decent bokeh, easy to use and very well built, with solid clicks for aperture and a silky smooth focus ring. On the downside, the minimum focusing distance is 0.7m, which limits usefulness as an allpurpose lens, since its not very usable for candid portraits or indoor snapshots in tight spaces, especially on my crop sensor XT1 where its effectively 40mm. Particularly with portraits, the combo of small focal length and large min. focusing distance means far too much DOF, even at the largest aperture of f2.0. It also feels a lot heavier than its size would suggest, probably because of its metal construction. Felt about as heavy as a native Fuji lens twice its size the 35mm f1.4, making it a bit imbalanced on the relatively lightweight XT1. Ended up returning it within a week of buying.
DCFL –
Better image then the leica lens Lente Leica Varioelmart 1856mm F3.55.6 Asph. Of course this is fix lens. It produces excellent video image in Leica T.

David –
Bought the Voigtlander after giving up waiting for Fuji to offer something in the 28mm neighborhood with a proper aperture ring.My copy is a Leica M mount and Im using a Fuji adapter. The lens is not a great match for the Fuji sensor but I havent really had a chance to properly check it out. I have always liked Voigtlander lenss renderings but this is a bit soft in the corners. Still need to print something and check it out further.Would I recommend it Dunno. Maybe Im so used to Fuji lens resolution that I cant get used to the Voigtlander. I need more time with it. It works well mounted on the XP2 and is wonderful to handle.

I used to own the Leica 28mm f2 Summicron ASPH the current version 2 and that lens was optically outstanding in every way, as it should be given what it costs.I ended up having to sell that beautiful lens and now have this muchcheaper Voigtlander 17 the price and must say, this lens is far more than 17 as good. The Voigtlander has some field curvature, but then so does the Leica, a bit more flare and a bit more purple fringing and at wide apertures the Voigtlander is much softer in the corners and a little softer on center. There is also a small amount of focus shift at f2.8 through f4 in close focusing distances, though honestly depth of field more than covers this under the vast majority of situations.Id say this lens is about 85 as good as the Leica, which is very good indeed. It is far better than my Canon 2470mm f4 IS at the 28mm position, even at f2, and by f5.6 it actually rivals the 7X more expensive Leica Summicron.Contrast is excellent at all apertures and distances, and while sharpness is good at f2 in the center, by f5.6 it is tack sharp from corner to corner and shows almost no distortion at any aperture or distance.Id also like to say that the build quality is far better than I expected, and that is true with the other Voigtlander lenses that I own as well 35mm f1.4 Nokton SC and 50mm f1.5 Nokton ASPH chrome. Its not quite at Leica Summicron level, but it is very, very close and is better than the old manual focus Nikon Nikkors and Minolta Rokkors I grew up with, to say nothing about modern plastic autofocus lenses whcih dont come anywhere the build quality of those Voigtlander. Finally, while many call this and all Voigtlander M mount lenses cheap or budget options, these lenses are only cheap in the context of Leica M mount. Compare to other modern lenses for mirrorless or DSLRs and this is absolutely a premium product, with look, feel and optical quality befitting one.I am absolutely delighted with my purchase, and only give it four instead of five stars for reasons that have nothing to do with quality the Leica is also a 4star lens for me, specifically it is fairly bulky and blocks more of the 28mm frame line than it should, and also in common with other Voigtlander lenses the markings on the aperture ring, focus ring and depth of field scale are small and difficult to read at a glance. Minor nits on an otherwise outstanding wide angle rangefinder lens.

Ive been a loyal customer since the mid 1980s. Once again they came through with flying colors. Prompt, efficient, great customer service, on time shipping. Product perfect as described

I had no intention of buying this lens. However, were visiting Ireland in a few weeks. I looked at some of the travel pics I took in the UK last year, and realized that my 35mm lens just falls short for travel.I did some net searching and found people rated this lens very favorable, both in optical quality price. Adorama had the lens in stock, so I ordered it. It arrived the next day free shippingLets start with the packaging. Gone is the retro, 1960s box. The new box reflects a company that is now producing lenses that can complete, for all intents purposes, with Leica Zeiss. The fit finish of the lens is first rate. The fstops click into place with a firm snap. The engravings are clean crisp. A minor point the red markings indicating the footage scale are difficult to read. Voigtlander should paint the footage scale white for USA inports. Right now, the white scale is for meters. The second quibble is the poor design of the lens cap. A first class lens should have a first class cap.To mount a 46mm filter, you need to unscrew the lens hood. The lens does intrude into the viewfinder of my M4P. Id estimate it blocks about 5 in the lower right corner. Its not a deal breaker. From close focus about 2.5 ft. to infinity is just shy of a 14 turn. The scooped focus tab makes that action very fast. By carefully choosing a working fstop, you can forget about focusing and work with the generous depth of field the 28mm focal length offers. The lens is sharp wideopen, with a tiny bit of distortion at the edges. I shoot film, so this is a minor distraction. Stop down to f5.6 and the lens is a powerful optical tool. It produces negatives with good contrast. I would imagine that it renders good digital color images. The cost of the lens puts it in a category that most photographers can afford. If you want the OEM lens for Leica, go for it. If you want an excellent 28mm lens, and have money left over in your pocket for travel, then this lens is for you. There will be people that will argue that this lens is subpar, as if it was made in a factory with dirt floors. Nonsense. This lens is equal to one costing thousands more.

The 28mm Ultron works great on both my M10 and a7R II, no color shiftingfringe. I use this lens for street photography, this lens is not the smallest, but small enough to be inconspicuous, great for zone focus shooting.

This lens is great value for the money. Its small, light with excellent sharpness across the frame. I also found that the color saturation was much richer then many other more expensive lenses such as the F1.2 Voigtlander. With the 28mm focal length I was surprised at the generally smooth bokeh. Cannot recommend enough
