I had big expectations of this bluetooth speaker when I order it and they have been fully lived up to. On arrival the speaker came in very stylish packaging, all cardboard and no plastic so Sony are obviously thinking about sustainability when they design the packaging for their products. In the box is the speaker, a USB charging cable, a base station for easy charging and a couple of instruction and warranty booklets. This speaker is much smaller than many speakers on the market. It has a lovely design with lots of curves and a soft textured outer surface. Operation is pretty straightforward no complex buttons, just an on/off button at the back, a ‘+’ and ‘-‘ button to control the volume on your bluetooth connected device and a pause/skip forward and stop/skip back button. Easy! There are a couple of LEDs to indicate charging state and on/off, very simple. Pairing with the speaker was simple too, showed up as ‘****’s Linkbud Speaker’ in my device’s list. I compared this speaker with a cheap Chinese made speaker that I’d been given for Christmas a couple of years ago and the difference was pretty amazing. The cheap speaker was a slightly louder when set to full but it’s sound was also little distorted and not quite as deep or full. This Sony device has great sound quality as you’d expect. The bass is brilliant, the treble is crisp and sharp and importantly the mid-range isn’t lost between the two. I played the speaker on full and there was none of the distortion that the cheap speaker displayed. I didn’t delve into the software side of this speaker, I don’t need it, but you can control it and set up several of it functions with the app. This speaker can connect to two bluetooth devices at once and it will also act as a microphone for phone calls, I tried this and the call’s sound quality was good and the person on the other end could hear me clearly. Verdict: I can’t recommend this bluetooth speaker enough, it does everything you need and all at a very high quality. Yes, £140 is expensive but it’s worth every penny.

The audio quality from this small speaker really stands out. It’s clear and balanced, and perfect for both music and podcasts. The design fits nicely in any room without taking up much space, and it’s easy to move from one area to another. Battery life is impressive, lasting the whole day without needing a charge. Very convenient for on-the-go use too.

Sony linkbuds s. These sound fantastic using ldac codec with Gadget Tree music HD tracks. I’ve had the xm5 earbuds and the anc is weaker than the linkbuds, very impressed with the anc. These buds are unbelievably light, literally hard to tell you are holding them! They slip into your ears perfectly and you really can’t tell you’re wearing them. I have tested these using my galaxy a24 phone and after exactly 3 hours the battery’s were both at 50%! Thats with anc on, volume 60% and using ldac codec, so they would be at around 65% if I was using aac codec. These are really loud, at 60% they were pumping out the tunes. Obviously I have heard all about the battery problems and I can’t speak for that, but the fact that they took 2 hours to charge fully is a great sign and the fact that left and right buds drained literally exactly the same is hopeful. Advice,,,, don’t use the DSEE HX function, this will drain the hell out of the battery, also disable “speak to chat and don’t enable Google assistant etc. All these functions are just gimmicky to me and drain the battery. I even turn off the wear sensors, is it that difficult to just tap the bud to pause your music? I think not. PLEASE BE SURE TO REGISTER THEM FOR THE WARRANTY. I know it’s a pain but if you don’t you only have 90 days to register, so if the notorious battery problems start after 6 months you could be in trouble. At £120 I think these are superb. Time will tell with the batteries??? Happy listening Ps if you register for your warranty you’ll receive an email from Sony offering an extra 1 year guarantee, just had my confirmation email from Sony so I’m fully covered for 2 years….. I’m going to keep this quite short and concise as i don’t want to waffle on but this is genuinely the best sounding speaker i’ve had to listen to my music on in as long as i can remember. in a distant past i owned proper home audio setup and a mobile dj setup that were objectively better (and way more expensive) but in the modern age of bluetooth speakers and music on your phone this is head and shoulders above the other ones i’ve tried. i listen to a lot of hip hop (90/00s) uk garage, grime, d’n’b and throw the odd bit of blues in there when the mood hits. this absolutely rocks all of those genres. i’m hearing bits of songs i’ve forgotten were even in there and the bass is perfect for a normal sized room (i put it on an empty container when i want to add a bit more punch. i’m by no means an audiophile and my taste is entirely subjective but i am so impressed by this. all the connectivity stuff is also very well done but it’s the sound that impresses me the most. worth the money 100%.

This speaker has a lot going for it, but it’s a bit of a mixed bag, especially considering its price. I picked up the black version, though it’s also available in light grey. Its design is sleek and simple—definitely a bit more understated and utilitarian than, say, Sony’s LinkBuds earbuds. It looks fine on a desk but feels less exciting as a centrepiece for a living room or kitchen. Still, it’s well-built, and I appreciate that it has an IPX4 water resistance rating, so I don’t have to worry about it getting splashed. One of the nice things about this speaker is its portability. Unlike a HomePod mini, it has a battery and a small handle on the back, which makes it easy to carry around the house. Plus, the charging dock that comes with it is handy. You can leave it on the dock for a semi-permanent spot, but it’s easy to grab and take with you to another room or outside if needed. The battery life is solid—Sony says it gets about 25 hours, which I found to be pretty accurate. And if you need a quick charge, a 10-minute charge gives you about 70 minutes of playback, which is super convenient. Sound quality is where this speaker performs well but doesn’t blow me away. For a compact speaker, it’s impressive and can easily fill a bedroom, and I’d say it’s enough for smaller living spaces too. The bass is there, but it’s limited by the speaker’s small size. The mid-range is a bit thick and, at times, can feel muddy, especially if you’re listening to something with a lot of detail in that range. Still, for casual listening, it does a good job. In the Sony Connect app, you get two EQ choices, but I wish there were more preset options like on other Sony products. You can manually adjust the EQ to boost bass or tweak mids, but it’s pretty limited. Connectivity is generally smooth, with a nice auto-switch feature that lets it toggle between the speaker and compatible Sony headphones. There’s even a dedicated button for Spotify. Tap on the speaker so you can play your Spotify playlist with just one press, which is neat if you’re a Spotify user. I also like that it has tactile buttons for basic controls like play, pause, and volume. The speaker is surprisingly good for calls. It has a mic on top, which makes it easier to pick up voices in any direction. The echo cancelling technology really does its job here, and the call quality was clear on both ends. There’s even a dedicated button to answer or end calls, making it a nice option if you’re working from home and need a speakerphone. After using it for a while, though, I didn’t find myself as attached to it as I’ve been with some other similarly priced speakers. While it performs well, there are other options out there that feel a bit more polished. For instance, the HomePod mini’s always-on voice assistant and the Sonos Roam’s dual Wi-Fi and Bluetooth setup give them an edge for seamless connectivity and integration. Overall, this Speaker is solid if you’re looking for something compact with good call quality and a sleek design, especially if you’re using it as an add-on to the LinkBuds earbuds. But unless you’re really into Sony’s unique hand-off feature or find it on sale, it feels a little expensive for what you get.

It’s a Sony speaker, you know it’s going to be good quality. I was sceptical at first, given the small form factor and the high cost, but in fairness I think it does well in justifying the price. It is portable (and has a strap handle you can carry it with), and comes with a base-station for easy charging. Operation is very simple, just a power button and +/- buttons for volume control, and play/pause and stop/skip buttons. That’s pretty much all you need. Pairing via Bluetooth is simple and straightforward, as it should be. Sound is very good, given the size. It definitely makes its presence known in the room, with thick bass and clear trebles, neither of which drowns out the other. Overall, it’s hard to find fault in it. It even comes nicely and stylishly packaged in sustainable packaging; Sony firing on all cylinders with this one!

This is a very good quality speaker, as I would expect from a name like Sony. There are no operating instructions in the box, though you do get quite a wodge of paperwork that translates into, what seems like, every language there is on the planet. It took me 3 attempts to get the QR code to link to the correct webpage and I haven’t fiddled with all the setting yet but the sound that I’m getting on just ‘normal’ is really great. The sound emits from all around the speaker, including the top, so you don’t have to make sure it’s in the right position or being blocked by something. The speaker comes with a charging base that you can leave plugged in, just dock the speaker when not in use or leave the speaker on it while playing so that it carries on charging. I already have a well-known brand’s speaker, larger and twice the price, but this Sony delivers the same quality in sound for less. Thoroughly recommend.

This little speaker is fantastic, it works absolutely flawlessly and the sound is great. Out of the box I wasn’t super impressed with the sound, it was extremely heavy on the bass which to most people would be a good point, but after a bit of EQing in the official app I got it to sound just how I like and now I use it every night. The charging dock is an amazing addition which makes this thing a lot more fun to use, it would be nice if they used Qi instead of the proprietary one that comes in the box, it would be nice if the charger at least had a removable cable on it so I could use a shorter one but it’s not a deal breaker. Using the dock is great, it charges the speaker no matter which way you put it on so it really doesn’t require much effort. Overall I am super happy with this speaker, I don’t own a pair of linkbuds so I can’t test the compatibility between those and this speaker sadly, but with the quality of this speaker I am definitely tempted to get a pair.
