Cindy –
I purchased this for my Sony A7R3. Its perfect for that little bit of extra grip.
Chris –
Adds so much stability.
Eric –
I am a singlecamera shooter. And I LOOVE this grip. The battery grip only added one extra batter, so it wasnt worth 350 to me. But this is totally worth the money for the comfort on my pinky and my wrist honestly. In order to change the battery, you just need to twist the screw, a quarter turn, then swing it out and open the battery compartment. It is NOT good for people who want to use a tripod a lot, or those with straps that screw into the tripod mount money makersblack rapid slings.Perfect for me though
Ken –
Very well made.. Excellent fit… Extreme Quality Have tried other Grips for the Sony A7M2… this is the best
Peter H. –
Sony A9 you really need this or the battery grip With the new batteries I just didnt want the weight size of the grip Yeh if you need a tripod mount often its not practical wish they had made it so you could sill get to the tripod mount or a mount hole in the grip next gen probably
Frank –
this is a good addition to the camera for a better hold. will need to remove it for a quick disconnect tripod mount.
Mike –
Put it on my A7iii the day I got it, and I havent taken it off. Worth 108 Probably not. But hey, I like it.
Steven J. –
5 stars for the usefulness and craftsmanship and 0 stars for the price. for the piece of metal If it wasnt paid by the company I work for, I would rather buy analog People who pay for this from their pocket must be crazy.
Paul –
This grip extension is excellent quality and makes gripping much more comfortable. I rate it at 3 stars due to the inconvenience I ran into with my sling strap not being able to screw into the bottom. I had to go with all new Peake strap and use the regular strap connections
George –
The RX1 is a well designed camera as such, it does not need this accessory. That said, it is an additional luxury that is nice to have and does improve the ergonomics. This thumb grip becomes important when shooting the RX1 during the winter with heavy gloves Im happy I got it.
Calvert –
Its worth every dollar to get an improved and more comfortable grip of my A7R II mounted with a lens of the FE 24105MM. I feel more confident to shoot under any circumstances. Highly recommended.BTW, I would like to make a suggestion to Sony that this extra grip should merge it into the body as a whole for upcoming model.
Offpen –
A tiny accessory with a nice price tag but it certainly makes the camera feel more comfortable and stable in your hand. Its one of those items that you wouldnt initially bother with, but once youve tried it would never go back.
Eric –
This is a very wellmade and well thought out piece of kit. While it is fairly expensive it is very nicely designed and will no doubt outlast the camera. If you just loosen it slightly it can raise off its locking pins and let you access the battery without taking it off altogether which is a great convenience. It feels solid as a rock and makes the camera a pleasure to hold and work with.
Ryan –
The idea behind this is good but the execution is poor. Put this on and youll constantly be screwing and unscrewing for battery changes, which over time would strip your tripod mount.
Gary –
Now that I have it, I havent wanted to take it off and, it seems to be worth the price, to gain a better, solid, more comfortable hold. I have enjoyed the shooting experience since getting it. It fits nicely with my a9, and a7RIII. I may have gone with a third party version, although, they didnt seem to offer a quick thumb screw lever, as this model does since swapping batteries generally needs to be done, easily, quickly.
ben –
A nice light grip to add some extra space for your hand. Blocks the battery access, but thats not critical. Feels very sturdy
Alon –
Coming from DSLR world this was one of the first accessories I bought. The downside it is too expensive you have to unscrew it for battery access.
Loren –
I have been using a Sony A7Rii with an Lbracket for about 5 years. I just bought an A7Riii for its improved ergonomics, battery, and dual cards. Since I have big hands, I wanted to try the Sony grip extension. It is simply an awful design. It sits on the righthand side of the camera so the camera cannot sit flat. It covers the battery compartment so must be removed to change batteries. It uses the tripod screw mount and has no way to attach a quick release or ARCASwiss mounting plate. It is over 120 for a small piece of metal.Overall, it is worthless and can be replaced by a generic Lbracket for less than half the cost and solves all of the issues mentioned.
Cousineau –
Although I like the grip built quality and the camera handling with the grip extension on, the main issue in my opinion is that you cannot use the tripod mount anymore, or attach a strap anchor on the bottom. Its also a bit expensive.
pallllllllli –
Makes the already great RX1R 2, handling even better. Good, superb built quality, but very expensive.
Peter –
I use with Zeiss optical finder. One day, I found the Thumb Grip and finder on the car seat, next to the camera. The lock hadnt held. If this had happened while in the field, Id have lost nearly 700 in equipment. Im surprised that Sony has produced such an expensive piece…that works great…with such an insecure lock. Ive used a Thumbs Up grip on my Leicas and they were rock solid for far less money. Disappointing.
Thomas –
Figured out a way to hook up peak design plate to it Still cheaper than battery grip and since battery lasts so much longer now, grip isnt as worth it to have. Go to HD and get longer screw with lock washer, then take out Sony screw and peak design screw. If you get the right thread and length, it should all work with base of camera.
laverne –
one of these days ill get the big hand grip. until i do that, i love this stupid thing. giving your pinkie finger something to do makes all the difference in the world.
Shaomin –
This grip offers a good pinky fix but a little too pricey
kpk –
works fine but can buy similar for 25.
Wayne –
Could not be happier with this grip accessory, make the camera easy to hold.
skooes –
I have found this grip to improve the handling of the camera it adds some muchneeded weight to the earlier versions of the Sony cameras such as the a7ii etc, but overall the grip makes the camera feel much more substantial and overall better in the hand.
Charles –
wanted a better hold on my camera but had no need for the vertical grip and extra weight that involved… This is such a simple, fantastic solution… little pricy… but worth it…
David –
Just the right little extra part that makes the grip a better experience, carrying a small prime like the 35mm with the a7 or the a9 its ok, but carrying a 2470mm all day with such little body it is very uncomfortable, this grip makes all so much better.
Collin –
First off, I dont get all the complaints about this little thing. It is the perfect solution to a well known problem. It gives you just enough added real estate for comfort without needing the added bulk of a battery grip and additional battery. It is incredibly well made, still overpriced in my opinion but this solution is a better one than any other company offers. Coming from crop body sensors the only solution to ergonomics would be a battery grip which i didnt really want. Lastly, blocking the battery door is to me a weird complaint. Changing the battery isnt something that you do frequently with the new Z batteries and you dont NEED to take it all the way off to change it, you can unscrew it a bit, spin to the side and bingo…take the battery out.The only downsides to this are 1. Price and 2. Blocking of tripod mount.I usually leave a plate on the bottom of my camera for a tripod, so admittedly that portion is a bit of a bummer. Bit also, if i am being realistic my camera spends more time in my hands then on my tripod so really not that big of a loss….and again, its a screw, not super complex to remove.
Photogdog –
I bought this for use with the Zeiss optical viewfinder. Its easy to install and locks in place like a bank vault.
tilstdavi –
Having dropped my Rx1rii once big repair bill this little enhancement gives me a solid grip, albeit a pricy one. Combined with the Black Rapid wrist strap the camera is safe from a repeat disaster.
Bryan –
Okay, so first let me say that the grip feel is superb. I absolutely LOVE the way this grip makes the camera feel without adding unnecessary bulk. The form factor is just sublime. Truly. If youre the type of shooter that is simply going to put a strap on it and dangle from your neck youre going to LOVE this grip. Since the new A9 batteries are 2x the capacity of the A7 series its not like youre swapping batteries all day like before. Now for the downsides… First, the grip covers the battery plate. Therefore you need to completely remove the grip first before swapping out batteries. While the grip is SUPER EASY to unscrew, its still not the most elegant solution. Second, the screw to attach the grip to the camera utilizes the same female tripod mount. So you guessed it… If you want to throw the camera on a tripod monopod, or like me you use the PeakDesign system to attach your camera to your bag, belt, etc. then youre aed out. So like I said, if you tend to shoot off of a conventional camera strap then youre gonna love this thing. However, if you go between a tripod or use a PeakDesign clipin system then this is utterly useless. For me, the only reason I would even need a grip attachment is for a long day of shooting to make it more natural and comfortable. But this is also the very situation when Im using my PeakDesign system to clip my camera off and on, and potentially combine with tripod shooting. So essentially when I need this grip the most, its the least practical. Just food for thought guys…
