I was wondering to get this lens as soon as it hit the market. I am simply speechless by the sharpness of the lens wide open, also I am impressed by the accuracy of the Auto Focus even in low light situations as receptions at weddings. I have many primes in my bag but with this one Ive found the consistency of getting tack sharp images at any frame. Love the compression of the background, the contrast and color. Well done SIGMA

I find that although this lens is a little on the heavy side, it is no where near the weight of 200mm, yet there is a similar compression. Super fast, sharp lens. I was trying to decide between this lens and a 70200mm, and I am glad I chose this one. Game changer.

This ia very good lens only issue is it is very heavy so most of the time it is sitting in my bag

Its a nice looking piece of glass. The design is beautiful and it measures up to the ART name. Its also wonderful to have such a fast lens in such a wide focal length. That said, as expected, there are some tradeoffs. Its heavy. Its huge. It probably should have come with a tripod collar. And, it has some very apparent coma issues. I didnt expect it to be perfect but after the reviews, I thought it would be better than it is. Even stopped down a bit I had some stretchy stars going on in the corners which started about 50 out from center. Its no where near as bad as the 20mm f1.4 ART lens. But its far from perfect too.

    Anthony

The flaring is bad during the day outside. Interior, perfect but very heavy. Should get the 14mm GM but that just came out, actually preorder. Sigma 14mm is all we had and it works.

I love this lens It has been a game changer for my ourdoor portraits. Its tack sharp and does so well in low light. I could not be happier.

This lens is fast and amazingly sharp. Straight lines remain straight. A great improvement over the Nikon 14 f2.8.

Built like a tank but takes beautiful pictures wide open that can blow out the background in a full length portrait.

I was in search for a Bokeh Beast lens and had my eye on the ever popular 70200 f2.8. After renting one I was semi satisfied… until I saw what this beauty was capable of.Creamiest bokeh Ive ever seen. Fantastic subject separation even at 5.6 and higher. Ive marveled at what some of the ProTogs were able to get with their magical gear and Im sure magical post production… but this gem does it all for you Just be weary… the focal plane is shallower than a politicians donation jar. But sticking around 5.6 youll be pretty golden. Not tried this on my APSC body but Im sure with the 1.5 crop 1.6 Canon youll still get some bangn bokeh.

Superb image quality but it weighs an absolute ton. The price we pay for a bit of extra speed at 14mm. I wouldnt do it except for making milky way and other night shots where reducing motion smear is important. Replaces my Nikon 1424 f2.8 for night sky duty.

Amazing Lens Ive only been able to use it on two shoots so far but its proving its worth so far. There is very minimal distortion and will require next to no fixing in post unless its user error not keeping the lens even to the ground. Id give it five stars but it does not have any kinds of threads for add ons Lee ND filters would be great, the lens cap is held on only by pressure so I feel it will loosen over time and the thing is big and heavy All things I can live with. If your doing Realestate or landscape Id definitely consider adding this to your arsenal

Actually Im in Iceland as I write this and wow. I had initially purchased this lens for astrological photos i.e., NorthernLights and Milky Way, but it is working fantastic as a landscape lens. Worth the money. As a side note BH is great they ship quickly and by the fastest route. I ordered another item from their online competitor and it took almost a week. Use the best and forget the rest as my grandma use to say

Resolving power is excellent micro contrast is very good and bokeh is excellent. But, compared to the Zeiss Milvus 135 f2 the colors look muddy and murky. In a headtohead comparison, the Sigma 135 images lack the Zeiss 135 pop or brilliance. Instead of pop, you get brownish murky. One less important fact is the Sigma is not a 135, more like a 132 mm. The Sigma 135 lens was autofocusing in front of the target. The Sigma Dock was some help to partially correct this, but if you have two bodies, a primary and a backup, then you have to split the difference with the Dock correction and then use AF Fine Tune on both bodies for the final correction to each body. Bottom line, I would not buy this lens again. This 135 lens exhibits the usual Sigma shortcoming poor color rendering. As photo equipment buyers, it is always a question of as compared to what and what kind of image you want to make.

I use this on my D810 and it creates such beautiful images. It is the perfect focal length for automotive and portrait photography on full frame cameras and has a really nice bokeh. Heavy strong design makes you feel like it was made nicely and feels great in your hand.

This lens is fantastic and probably way to good for me Luckily for me I got it on a flash sale on BH for something like 500 cheaper than its normal price It was purchased as a replacement for my Rokinon 14mm 2.8 and I have been beyond satisfied. Using it mostly for astrophotography, it has mad the task way easier with shorter exposures and way more light allowed. Was slightly worried about the problems Id heard about with the autofocus, but I like many will say there are no problems with the AF on Nikon. 2 thumbs up from me

An exceptional lens.Focus and sharpness are superb on Nikon, in my experience.Only downside is the weight. The lens is significantly heavier for its size than Nikon equivalents.Bottom line, id buy this lens again.

As a portrait photographer, I have an obsession for razor sharp eyes, and I have several good lenses that will do that, but none are a match for the Sigma 135 ART. I used to have to overshoot quite a bit and then sit down to loadcull a session with a bit of dread, wondering how many images wouldnt meet my standard of sharpness sure they client may not notice, but I do. With this lens I have about a 90 or more keep rate, and they are incredibly sharp. Not to mention that extra compression is soooo dreamy. My 85mm 1.4 used to be my goto portrait lens, but this guy is the head honcho in my bag now. Also great for action speedy fast even in low light.

In addition to the new Sigma 135, I have Nikons 135 F2.0 DC Nikkor, Zeiss 135mm ApoSonnar, and Nikons 70200 E. Of all these lenses, the Sigma 135 has the best balance, of sharpness, freedom from chromatic aberration, beautiful bokeh, focus agility and accuracy. The Zeiss is slightly sharper, but is too clinical for my portraiture needs. The Sigma is just right. Both Zeiss and Nikon 70200 zoom have busier backgrounds bokeh so I favor the Sigma in this attribute, with the Nikon DC lens being the best, but no by much Focus is constantly spoton, and required NO microadjustment. Just an amazing lens the most useful I have found in 135mm focal length

I was apprehensive buying this lens because of some reports of autofocus issues. Not so for me. I use it on a Nikon d810. The lens is very well constructed and should last a long time. Autofocus is very rapid, extremely quiet, and remarkably accurate right out of the box. Just pay attention to the shallow depth of field at large apertures and dont blame the lens for lessthanperfect focus. I have yet to use the USB dock to tweak anything. Most importantly, images are tack sharp to near the edges at all apertures, and seem nearly perfect to the edges at f1.8, which is why I bought this lens. Color rendition and saturation are also excellent. Manual focus and manual fine tuning of focus, if desired, are easy because this lens large focus ring has a good feel. No image stabilizationvibration compensation is present. I do wish Sigma would add this to all their new lenses. Tamron and Nikon have a distinct advantage here. The only real downside isnt really an issue because its expected in a lens like this. The lens is large and has some real heft to it. Its hard to carry around all day. But I find it well worth the money because of its many positives.

I read a lot of positive reviews of this lens, but now I have it on my Nikon D850, I am really blown away. It certainly is a specialty lens, so maybe not for all of us photographers out there, but man oh man what a killer for portraits, landscapes, street or even wildlife on my D500 It is a heavy lens and has no VR, so keep your shutterspeed at a reasonable level

  30. blank

    thunder1604

Well constructed like Sigmas other Art lenses..good long smooth focus ring for fine tuning manual focusing but has fast autofocus capability with the option to limit the range to reduce focus hunting once set up. This is a reassuringly hearty lens with a filter thread of 82mm the same as the 85mm so will add a lot of weight to your camera bag. Its not a focal length Ive used before but Im pleased with the results so far, works well with my Nikon D850.

I did a quick test with this lens as soon as i receive it and im confirming what the reviews i read say, the lens is very very sharp even at its widest aperture f1.8 the center was very sharp and the corners a little soft which is expected, at f8 is very sharp corner to corner. Also i really like the colors this lens produce, in general pretty happy with it so far.Cant wait to test it with some landscape photos.

I purchased a 35mm art prior to this lens and had focus issues and was disappointed in it. After calibration the lens has been awesome. This lens on the other hand has been spot on and tact sharp from the first shot the bokeh is dreamy. The weight of the lens was a concern of mine but I adjusted quickly. I have used it for docmentry type photos of my kids and weddings so far, loved it for both.

I loved my Sigma Art 35mm and I knew this Sigma Art 135mm would be as great as 35mm. I got the lens and tried on several occasions on childrens portraiture and it totally exceeded my expection. Bokeh is so creamy and nice and subject is very sharp. Though its much heavier than some other 135mm, I think its totally worth its weight for the quality of the image.

Amazing lens. Sigma has really upped their game with their new lenses. This thing is build solidly and with a max aperture of f1.8 it absorbs tons of light and is super sharp. I used to be a skeptic years ago with Sigma but it seems like theyre making top notch lenses that can run with the best of them.

Just received this lens after waiting several months for its arrival and I am extremely happy with it Very finely built and beautiful, it would look great on display as a sculpture. Did test shots from f1.8 through f5.6 and was amazed at the sharpness even wide open. The wide angle lets me capture much more indoor space than Im used to and am excited about being able to shoot more complex landscape scenes. This is my second Sigma Art lens, the other being a 105mm macro, and though I havent needed it yet I bought the USB dock because this series is my new favorite and Im sure a few more will be entering my kit bag. Highly recommend Any Sigma Art lens and especially this outstanding 14mm. Thank you Sigma and BH as well great products and service.

I am currently getting my degree in photography. I have been taking pictures for many years and use professional gear. I have taken some night shots before but was always disappointed in the results. Well, no moreI did a lot of research before I bought this lens. I do not have an unlimited budget but I wanted to get the best tool for the job. For me, this fits the bill.I saw that there were some that had focusing issues. I did not. Beautiful images right out of the box. I must caveat that by saying that I used manual focus and hyperfocal length to get my night shots you are not going to be leaving autofocus on at night.I am attaching a shot from my first night shot with the new lens and I am thrilled with the results. This is the Sigma 14mm 1.8 Art 20 secs and 1600iso. I light painted the scorpion with a small flashlight. The results speak for the quality of the lens. Can you buy a better Astral photography lens Maybe. But, for the money, I am sticking with this one.

The close focal distance, incredible build, and amazing image quality make this lens the perfect portrait lens. I am so excited to pick this lens up and use it I have already used it more than my 135L lens for Canon. The weather sealing at the lens mount is a nice touch. It is heavy. But worth it for the results

After waiting several years for the new Nikon 135mm, I decided to try the Sigma 135mm f1.8 DG HSM Art.OMG, this is it, the Nikon AFS 200mm f2 has now a little brother The Sigma is built like a pro lens, heavy and solid AF is ultra fast, quiet, and very accurate tested on Nikon D800I love the close focusing capability, less than 3 feet Sharpness is incredible, even at f1.8 and not just at the center, sharp all over the frame check the clock picture, D800 ISO 800 f1.8 160s, no flash.Bokeh is just like the Nikon 200mm f2, amazing Falloff and chromatic aberrations are very well under control, unnoticeable. The filter size is 82mm, it will take a BW XSPro clear MRCNano filter 007 without any issue for mounting the lockin hood.I have more than 15 Nikon Nikkor lenses and only 1 Sigma lens but trust me, that lens have its place in my camera bag

May well be the sharpest lens Ive ever owned…and the list is long and distinguished. AF is snappier than i thought it might be. Bokeh is amazing. Hit rate even in low light dance action was great as well.

For a while now Ive been in the market for a new portrait lens, and when Sigma came out with the 135mm f1.8 ART, I was intrigued because its a focal length I prefer over the 85s and 105s of the world. Online, reviewers raved about the sharpness and bokeh, so I had to give it a try. I knew a lens would have to really impress me to justify spending that much money, especially when compared to my reference lens my Nikon 70200mm f2.8G VRII, which has been a stellar performer for more than seven years and is even better after a recent tuneup from Nikon service. My initial experience was a bummer. The first copy had autofocus problems, which is exactly what I had feared. I was determined to give it a fair shake, though, so I sent it back and requested an exchange and got the Sigma USB dock along with it so I could calibrate it more thoroughly. Around the same time, I ordered a Nikon 105mm f1.4 with the idea I would test it headtohead against the Sigmas replacement when it arrived. Long story short After several days of testing and handwringing and several hundred images shots under varying conditions, Ive decided to keep the Nikon even though the second copy of the Sigma was better than the first. It was a tough call, but for me it came down to autofocus capabilities. The Nikon was just more accurate and more consistent, and thats really important to me.SHARPNESS Is it sharp Absolutely. Crazy sharp. It has been hailed as the sharpest lens ever tested by some reviewers, and I would have to agree. It is sharp across the frame at 1.8 and only gets better. Advantage Sigma.BOKEH This, of course, is very subjective. In looking at photos some reviewers posted, I thought the Sigma was slightly more appealing less fringing and outlining on the bokeh balls. In my testing, though, I found little to distinguish the two. Both lenses produce a creamier, much more appealing background than my 70200, which I have always found to be a little busy in the bokeh department. Advantage neither.AUTOFOCUS This is where the rubber meets the road as far as Im concerned. My replacement Sigma was better than the first one, and after finetuning with the Sigma USB dock, I thought the AF performance would be acceptable. I was disappointed. My testing consisted of shooting test charts using a tripod and camera timer stilllife arrangements outdoor portraits both handheld and on tripods and indoor portraits with studio lighting. I did not test either lens under extreme lowlight conditions, like what you might encounter at a wedding or a concert. All shots were taken with my Nikon D750, which is the bestfocusing camera Ive ever owned. After shooting almost 500 images over the course of several days, I now estimate that the percentage of infocus shots was between 7580 for the Sigma and between 8590 for the Nikon. Why the estimate Because I cannot totally account for errors due to my own technique, and I couldnt tell if some outoffocus shots were attributable to camera shake or frontback focus. Is 7580 good enough for you Not me. Especially when the Sigma misses focus on a test chart with adequate contrast and detail in a brightly lit room, which it did multiple times, especially when using the outer focus points. I just dont get that. Neither lens was as reliable as my 70200, which regularly nails about 95 of shots.

This lens offers something other superwides do not a fast aperture This separates it from the other superwide products. It offers minimal vignetting for such a wide and fast lens and minimal coma great for astronomy. I had no flare issues while imaging throughout the August 2017 eclipse. I have also used this lens for architectural photography where a tripod was not permitted. In such a venue it performed very well. Ive done some minimal portrait work with this lens and the bokeh is nice. This is my first Sigma Art lens and I will likely buy more. It is the first lens that Ive owned that has shown moire on textiles, wide open, with my Nikon D800e an indication that it is outresolving the sensor…

I bought this lens for my Nikon D850 for portrait use, and it does not disappoint. The colors are spot on. The bokeh is unbelievable. The look of the photos is stellar. You have to stand quite a distance from your subject but I dont mind doing that. I think this lens is going to be very useful for wedding photography in addition to portrait work, and some street photography. I really love it. Autofocus is speedy, just as fast as the 85mm if youve used that. Sigma has continued to exceed any expectations that I have. I know own almost the entire ART line, the 24, 35, 50, 85, and now the 135. All I can say is wow There is truly nothing on the market that compares in sharpness at f1.8 or to the speed of the AF system. its quite, fast and dead on. Like most Sigma lenses it is a good idea to get the calibration dock and spend a few minutes really fine tuning the AF system. This is the downfall of the third party market, none of them have the Nikon or Canon secret sauce that they need to sync the AF systems like OEM Glass however, with that said. It was as simple as a few tweaks and this lens was razor sharp. Ive used it for almost a month now and it has almost all but replaced my Nikkor 70200mm f2.8 FL ED VR. If there is anything Id change itd be adding VR and moving it to f1.4. BH had this lens weeks before everyone else and I was able to get a copy earlier than expected which was amazing, this sold me not only on the Sigma lens, but on BH.

First… wow, what a beast This is a seriously massive and heavy lens. The size, heft and operation of this lens just oozes quality.Photographers struggling with weight issues are strongly encourage to find an 1130 gram weight 39.87 ounces to get an idea about how massive this lens is. Get a round 4inch mailing tube and fill it with sand…Autofocus is very fast and quiet. It has selectable focusing ranges by a 3way switch for FullCloseFar to restrict autofocus hunting. This is very useful in dim light and fast movement, such as rock concert work. This is the sharpest 135mm lens Ive seen in any review. It beats the Zeiss, and Nikon primes by a very large amount. There is no zoom that comes anywhere close to this level of sharpness. The sweet spot on the Sigma is f4, and even wide open at f1.8 it soundly beats my very sharp Nikon 851.8G across its entire range. On my Nikon D810, the autofocus appears to be completely accurate. This is the lens for those who demand the ultimate in sharpness, and do not balk at the size, weight, or cost.

Great lens. Autofocus is quick, lens is ridiculously sharp, and well built. My two year old loved it. Taking one star off because the lens hood is not as secure as other Art lenses and popped off, falling into the mud when the camera just bumped against my leg while I was working with my model. Not the kind of thing I need to worry about at a wedding or photoshoot. I did need to fine tune focus on my nikon Df, but it was pretty much dead on with my D700. Its going to take some practice getting used to the focal length and nailing focus, but overall it seems like one of those lenses you may forget about because its a special focal distance, and then fall back in love with when you start shooting with it again. Or maybe ill just weld it to one camera body. I would say focus in good light is nearly as fast as my 70200 VRII and didnt have any hunting issues. I sold my 70200 to get this and it seems promising so far. It did hesitate in lower light before locking on, but id much prefer that to hunting any day and it was very slight. In good light it was super fast and dead on. You just have to be careful with the shallow dof. These photos were all shot at ISO 1600, less than an hour before sunset, and all at f1.8. Shot the whole time in drizzly Portland rain and had no issues with the water on the lens body. Of course im not going to challenge a lenss sealing. Not sure what to really say. Its an Art lens through and through. Just wish the lens hood was tight like my 35mm Art.

Exactlty what Ive come to expect from sigmas art series line. Its a well built tank of a lens with amazing quality optics. Calling 1.8 sharp is a total understatememt on this lens….its beautiful and the resulting bokeh is buttery silk…amazing. Hats off to sigma for finally releasing this focal length in their art series. In the Nikon world there have been no good 135mm lens autofocus options for years nikons 135 last being released in the 90s and thats no longer the case with the release of this lens…

Ive reviewed this lens before but after some more handson experience, I would like to provide some update. Overall a very competitive lens in the field of astrophotography. Even without a tracker, the long exposure time made possible by the ultrawide angle and the large aperture make it absorb so much light. Plus the ultrawide also produces some of the most stunning photos of the Milky Way. Highly recommend

I am a fan of the ART series of Sigma lenses in general, now owning three of them. This one, the 1351.8 did not disappoint and is the only option for a 135 with its speed. Even after the first five minutes of testing, in my officebasementstudio, I was blown away. I am anticipating giving it some use at basketball this year and also for portraits. Having only owned it for a couple of weeks, I really have not given it a complete workout, yet results todate are impressive for both sharpness and bokeh.

Sharper than it has any right to be, wide open or stopped down, faster more responsive autofocus than my other Sigma Art lenses, Im in love with this lens. Had to dump my old Nikon DC 135mm since it wont autofocus with the new Z6 bodies and the difference is astounding. The ridiculous size and weight of this monster ought certainly to be a major consideration for anyone working without a tripod, but for me, on a tripod as are most of my shoots, its simply fantastic

SIGMA 135ART F1,8 Nikon mount 1st piece ever , officially , delivered in Europe. Specifically in Greece My male topmodel kitty , Kokopsonakos , sends his regards. Absolutely NO sharpening , has been applied in his photo. Only a mediore gainlift of the shadows. The photo has been downscaled from its original analysis to less than 1K due to BH limitations of the Photo uploader it was saved at 60 quality . It has been shot with aperture F1.8 Camera was at 2m distance, from the model. Model was 2,5m distance , from the backround. First time in my life , i have the certainty that my Nikon D750s 24Mp sensor is WAY outperformed maybe even humiliated P by the quality of the glass. The glass is astonishing and possibly can resolve more than 50megapixels of analysis I am shocked by the image quality. We need an immediate , head to head , comparison with the OTUS 85mmF1.4. First the picture is wrong, it is longer and like everyone says yes it is heavy. That said for Night and Milky Way this lens and the SEL1224G f4 and SEL1635 f4 can not afford the f2.8. I found out in 2014 my A7S was perfect for Milky Way shots and the lens to use was the Rokinon 14 f2.8, yea got lots of light BUT the star trails and coma in the upper corners everyone lived with, I got every model and all had the same problem, even at f4. I have used the NPF rule since it came to be known and this lens at 6.68 sec. 7 sec. captures the light BUT when you need more even a 30 second shot no star trailing or coma well at 200x yes star trailing. Admitted by pros they work hours to rid star trailing. I shoot dark sky over the ocean in Florida and Georgia coast in lt parking lots and lit buildings as foreground in aperture mode because of the bright lights but the sky is so dark even over the Gulf of Mexico from Floridas forgotten coast St. George Island to New Orleans coast it is all dark sky. This makes the forth lens I love, the third before there were night lenses the SEL1018 f4 in full frame mode at 12mm is as good as they come if used at NPF rule. This lens and the sony lenses are kept in a firewater proof safe at home and in by Pelican when out, I cherish this lens that much. just remember the NPF rule and use the A7M3A7RM2 soon the A7SM3 never too dark for this lens. Need I say needle point stars and perfect sky colors and no soft places that I could see. So much good glass it has to be heavy

What I have learned after one week of using the Sigma 135. Again, the lens is just first class. Learning curve for me. The first time I changed the lens to manual focus, I just went brain dead. I neglected to switch the camera body to manual as well. The lens still focused manually, However when I switched the lens back to full auto the lens would not focus up, no way no how. I remembered reading this in another review on the New Sigma 85mm with the same problem. DONT SEND the lens back because it wont auto focus. The FIX is turn off the power switch on the camera body. Then remove the battery. Reinsert the battery and the camera and the lens will talk to each other again. I understand this could be a pain for some camera owners. However I have a vertical battery grip on my camera and removing the battery takes just seconds. I want to emphasize that this was operator error for sending confusing info to the lens, so it needed to be rebooted. I hope this will help some of you with lens operation. I just love this lens. Photo 1 my cat full length full frame. 2. 200 crop of the same image.

I am using this lens on my Sony A7r II via Sigma MC11. For sure it is one of fastest and so far, I have used this lens mostly at wide open aperture for the smoothest bokeh. There is another f1.8 lens in this FL but the way it is, the AF of this lens via MC11 is better, more responsive and accurate than the Sony 135mm f1.8 lens via the date LAEA4.And at wide open aperture, the lens optical performance is incredible. It is sharp on the spot of focus and the background is nice and smooth. I am very pleased with the lens performance and will keep it until Sony comes out with a new GM lens that can match the speed of this lens, well, at least at f2.0. Yes, it is big and it is heavy but I gladly put up with those inconveniences for its I. Bravo, Sigma

I own a few lenses and have shot nighttime adn astro images with each the Sony FE2470GM2.8, Rokinon 20mm1.8, and this Sigma 14mm1.8. I dont use any tracking equipment, so everything is pretty much single shot. The Sony is sharp, but doesnt quite capture the stars. The Rokinon captures the stars but the image quality isnt great. This Sigma lens is incredible. It has excellent low light performance, and the image is SHARP This is what matters to me. Optical clarity wide open is absolutely stunning. I had read that AF is better than other Sigma lenses including all the other Art series but on my 5D3, 5D4, 5DSR, its not very impressive for consistent AF accuracy. Most of my other native Canon lenses will more consistently hit perfect focus than this Sigma. My Canon lenses have about a 95 hit rate where this is more around 80. Im hoping that Canons new R series bodies perform better with this lens. Like I said though, optically it is a jewel and I have been in situations where my 70200F2.8 didnt gather enough light but this 135F1.8, even with the focus issues, performed butter due to the ability to freeze subject movement. It was a very dark venue.

Ive only had this lens for a few days, but Im blown away by the awesome colors, contrast and sharpness it delivers on my D810 I havent had any of the focus problems that I had read about. Ive tried it in different lighting conditions and it seems super fast to me. Im replacing my Nikon 70200mm f2.8g v2 with this. The 70200 is a great lens, but its so long and heavy. I was worried about the new Sigma not having stabilization, but with the larger aperture I can use faster shutter speed and it gives beautiful bokeh And to me it appears sharper than the Nikon lens. This new Sigma is much easier for me to handle and has a large beautiful, light gathering front diameter element without the long length. Well done Sigma Im impressed

At this time of review, it is longest focal length lens with aperture 1.8 or less. It is indeed top choice for me to photograph children in outdoor.Pros1. Resolves images to the full potential of latest high resolution sensors. When using this lens and other 135 f2 lens on D850, you could see the difference.2. Bokeh. The blur in the background is really smooth and also gives you nice separation from subject. When you compare bokeh side by side it is better than 200mm f2.8.3. Focal length. Ideal length for outdoor child photography work.Cons1. Weight. For me it is heavy to carry and shoot for an hour. But for the image quality and results, it is worth carrying though.2. It sometimes hunt for focus when changing focus from subjects in far to subjects in close. So you will have to remind yourself to use the focus limit buttons in these cases. My recommendation for buying. If you already have 70200mm f 2.8 with no focus breathing Canon or Nikon, you can produce similar results with 200mm f2.8. For an event and fast family outdoor shots, just carrying constant 135mm focal length will limit your shots. For everyone else for shooting pets, kids, headshots and whoever thrive for artistic touch in work, this is the lens you should seriously consider.

IMO this lens is built for one purpose only astrophotography. In other words, if you are looking for a versatile ultrawideangle lens capable of multiple tasks, this 14mm F1.8 Art is not what you want and get a 1124, 1424, or 1635 instead. This lens is so specialized in astrophotography that honestly it will likely be sitting in your dry cabinet for a long time. However, for anyone who craves for the Milky Way above us, this is your Eye of Sauron.

The Sigma 14mm f1.8 Art is an outstanding lens, sharp and well built. I also own the 20mm f1.4 and 24mm f1.4 Art lenses. From my experience you absolutely must have the Sigma USB Dock. None of these 3 lenses focused properly out of the box with the 20mm being the worst of the three. And you really do need a focusing target like LensAlign or something similar. From my experience, Sigma Art lenses really arent calibrated to any standard so its important to use Sigmas optimization software and calibrate your new lens at each of the distances shown in the software. Making adjustments at infinity is the hardest part. I found a distant object outside that had enough detail, so I could check the sharpness. But without a focus scale I found manually adjusting the focus as I looked through the viewfinder helped me determine if the lens was front or back focusing. This may seem like a lot of work, but Ive found that once calibrated, those settings transfer to other Nikon bodies. Once adjusted on one camera body using the USB dock, I can use the lens on other Nikon bodies. However, with each new body its still important to use AF finetune to tweak the focus for that body. AF fineTune may be more important with these lenses due to their shallower depth of field. My main reason for purchasing these fast prims is for star shots, the advantage being the 2 or almost 2 extra stops of light. I can shoot at much lower ISO resulting in much less noise, no more star stacking to reduce noise. Previously, Ive been using Nikons 1424mm f2.8 and while its surprisingly sharp even compared to the sigma primes, f2.8 is too slow for astrophotography. So, whats not to like First you must calibrate the lens yourself. From all the testing I did, I also found the Sigma lenses dont focus as consistently as the Nikons do. I could see this visually in the series of tests shots I took, and it was even more obvious when I used FocusTune software in conjunction with the LensAlign target. When FocusTune analyzes a series of shots, it produces a plot of the variation within the test group. In many of the Sigma test there was an inexplicable outlier or wild way out of focus shot. Even at their best the Sigma lenses had larger groups than the Nikon lenses. Where focus is critical, I often double check using manual focus, an extra step I dont do with Nikon lenses.Weather sealing isnt great either. Of the three lenses I own, only the 14mm f1.8 has a gasket on the flange and all were purchased since July 2017. I also discovered during a trip to the southwest, that a small grain of sand found its way into the focusing ring of the 20mm f1.4. I could feel the roughness when I turned the focus ring. Fortunately, I could see the tiny piece of grit and I was able to remove it with a brush and compressed air. In terms of astrophotography, I cant say the 14 and 20 have reduced coma relative to other lenses like the Nikon 1424mm. Stars in the corners develop some interesting shapes particularly in the 20mm, but I kind of like them since there shape reminds me of alien space craft. FX Corners on both the 14mm 20mm when shot wide open are decidedly soft and dont really become sharp until f8 or even f11 at the expense of reduced center sharpness. Also, at those fstops you begin to encounter diffraction limitations. These are great lenses but if you dont need a fast prime or youre on a budget, the Nikon 1424mm is still a very good lens. Sigma has also announced a new 1424mm f2.8 Art lens that looks very promising.

I have used the lens a few times and have been blown away by the sharpness and detail that is capable from this lens. I bought it to use on my EOS 6D, but have also purchased an MC11 adapter to use on my A7RII. In either situation, I was very happy with the performance of the lens. I especially love the eye autofocus capability of the lens when used with the MC11 on the A7RII. Understand that the performance of a native lens in those situations would probably be better, the Sigma worked well for me. All of my images, except for a very small few, were tack sharp. Those that werent were probably my fault. The lens is big and heavy, but there is a lot of glass in this lens. I cant compare it to other 135mm lenses because this is the first one I have owned. With that being said, I was very happy with the performance and it did well for me. Wide open shots really allow you to blow out the background and make your subject standout. I would recommend this lens for anyone who is in the market for good 135mm prime.

Ive had multiple copies of the Canon 135 over the years. Ive also tried out the RokinonSamyang. The Sigma Art is head and shoulders above them optically. The 1.8 aperture is an attention grabber but means little in reality. Virtually any of the fast 135mm primes will get you good subject isolation and sharpness. However, the difference with the Sigma is that it maintains that sharpness across the frame and is free from CA unlike the Canon. This adds to the perceived level of sharpness and microcontrast.Autofocus is fast and has been reliable. I cannot speak to its operation on a DSLR though since I have it mounted on a Sony A7R2 with the Metabones IV T and Sigma MC11. The MB adapter officially supports AFC at all points in the PDAF area which is what I prefer using in conjunction with single point selection. However, you give up eyeAF in this configuration. You can switch modes on the MB adapter and regain eyeAF but then you give up reliable AF in both continues and single shot outside of the very center of the frame. The Sigma Adapter retains eyeAF and works decently in AFS. However, it is unusable in AFC away from the center point. Needless to say, I generally have only used it on the MB.The only negative, if I had to be picky is sizeweight. It is definitely not the smallest or lightest in the category. Much like the monetary cost, one has to decide if the weightsize payment is justifiable for what youre getting. For me, the answer is heck yeah. It is an absolute beauty optically. Focusing is on par with anything else Ive used and the look it generates has aided me in not regretting the sale of the canon 2002.0.In case anyone is curious, in my opinion, the Sigma 135mm gives me 95 of the look of the canon 200 and it is a shorter focal length which has made it much more usable across a wider range of applications for me.

Wow, I thought the Sigma 35 and 50 Art lenses were sharp, but the Sigma 135 1.8 Art is a step above. I have used it wide open at 1.8 and stopped it down to f8. Im amazed at the results I get with this lens. The color rendition is excellent, as I had to return and replace my first Sigma 50 1.4 Art due to inaccurate colors. If your subject is close enough, shooting at 1.8 creates a beautifully smooth background. The only limitations are the weight and no optical stabilization. And for me, it is not always on my camera, as I use the 35mm and 50mm primes more often, but its in my bag and I look for any excuse to use it. It truly is an outstanding lens. I shoot with a Nikon D810, so you have frame of reference for comparison.

I shoot a lot of health care projects and am in small examinations room where even my 18105 wont let me get a profile twoshot. This bad boy really does the job. It balances nicely on my Fs5ii and surprisingly has very little barrel distortion and the chromatic aberration is negligible . My only mark against it is that it doesnt support steady shot. Super sharp and just beautiful images wide open.It only needed minor adjustment with the dock. The 35 and 50 needed from 2 to 12Focus struggles slightly in very dark situations like concert stage situations.Using it on a D850 and one thing that surprised me was the camera blur that appeared out of nowhere. ha I have a fairly steady hand but the resolving power of this lens combined with the D850 makes previously unnoticeable camera motion visible. I usually shoot at 1250, or 1320 when I can, to eliminate it. Its really just a pixelpeeping issue, but it is definitely there.

I have enjoyed astrophotography for many years, and it has become more rewarding as detector and lens quality has improved. This lens pretty much lives up to the hype.It is incredibly sharp, able to outresolve my Nikon D850 especially in the center where you can see the false color evidence from the lack of antialiasing filter on fine detail. It also has little or no chromatic aberration no pink halos around stars at large aperture, and the fidelity of star colors is excellent. It does suffer from some field curvature. In shots when the center is sharpest the corners are soft even stopped down to f4, which is slightly worse than my Nikon 1424. If you are willing to give up some of that center sharpness, you can reach a compromise focus choosing a point about 23 of the way between center and edge to put best focus that produces good star images across the entire field in a 4K resolution image at f2.8, which is better than my 1424 at its maximum f2.8 aperture. Once you get below about f2.2, the variation in star sizes from center to edge gets a little too distracting for my taste, but I am fairly sensitive to this. The bottom line is with a careful choice of focus you can get no excuses 4K images at f2.8, for beautiful timelapse movies of the night sky.

The first Sigma lens was the 150600 Sport, and it turned my opinion on after market lenses. At less then 13, the cost of the Nikon, I decided to try this big baby out. It proved to be absolutely perfect long lens for me. Now, we own 6 Sigma Art lenses Nikon mount. Im sold on Sigma Art line. If you havent tried the Sigmas you are missing the boat. Move over Nikon And Canon, because there is a new kid in town. And the name is SIGMA. I purchased the Sigma dock for software updates, however to date all of our lenses have been perfect right out of the box,not needing any adjustments period. Please try one of the these lenses from Sigma, they well certainly impress you, and your photographic images. This new 135 is by far the perfect portrait lens. Raiser sharp, dont cut yourself.

As a pro event and wedding photographer Ive shot over 480,000 images on my D3s alone. I recently purchased this lens after weeks of research for my new D850. So far Ive only used the D850 with my Nikon 70200 f2.8 VR II lens and just couldnt understand why the image quality didnt blow me out of the water like I had expected when I compared it to the D3s. This lens literally taken my breath away. Noticeable improvement in image quality and sharper than my Nikon 200 F2 I sold a few years ago. This makes my 70200 look pathetic. The lens is completely silent and balances on the D850 like it was made for it. Focus is super fast and needed only a 3 microfocus adjustment. My Nikon 70200 needed 17Colors, contrast and bokeh are to die for. The D850 is like a completely different camera as this lens has totally unleashed the sensors resolving power.

Definitely need to be thoughtful when using this lens, and watch the edges of your frame to not stretch people out, but using this for wedding photography is great. Always looking for a differentunique perspective and this lens definitely delivers. Solid sharpness, 1.8 is awesome for low light and the occasional shallow dof effect, plus super fun to shoot with. Yes, its heavy, but totally worth it.

Many years ago, I purchased the iconicNikon 135mm f2 DC. This lens and me grew together. I had never before shot in such shallow depth of field, and I drastically needed to adjust the front focussing on my D700 curiously this wasnt necessary on the D800 many years later. But I fell in love with that focal length. I was nervous what the new Sigma 1.8 would offer. My comments after the first test 1 The depth of field is terrifyingly shallow. If you are not ready for it, dont blame the lens. 2 My copy is crazily sharp up to the corners at 1.8. The only other lens I have tried that was that sharp is Nikons 2002.0. Neither Nikons new 105 nor Sigmas 85 ART come close to this. 3 Focussing is fast and accurate, very much in contrast to the 135DC. I am stunned.

The Sigma 14mm lens is a well made, sharp and very rectilinear lens and well worth the money. There are a couple of gotchas the lens is big and heavy and not something you can throw in a camera bag just in case.Theres no aperture ring but autofocus can be turned off and the lens used with manual focus that being said, at 14mm, almost everything is going to be in focus.Apart from astronomy, few are going to really need 1.8 and it would be nice if a smaller, lighter version was available at a more sensible 2.8.Finally, we measured the angle of view at more like 105 than 114 which is not unusual with lens manufacturers though it could be partially down to the cameras viewfinder.

Sharpest lens I own by a mile, fast autofocus, heavier than expected, solid construction, virtually no chromatic aberration

Amazingly sharp and crisp and contrasty on my D810, I can hardly wait to get my D850 but…..it weighs a ton. Oh well thats the price we pay for Otus like performance with auto focus at a fraction of the priced.

I am a professional portrait photographer at maxleephoto.com, and have been shooting portraiture for the past 5 years. I use my 70200 2.8 very often and when I do shoot tight portraits, based on my catalog, I tend to use the focal length around 135mm to be very pleasing. Nikon has been dragging their feet on updating their 135mm f2 for a very long time. While 135mm f2 DC is an excellent lens, it is soft by todays standards, and the AF speed and also the accuracy leaves very little to be desired. Enter Sigma. I have used sigma lenses, their last 2470 and 70200 2.8 before the ART series lenses, and they simply sucked. The optical quality was excellent, however the AF was all over the place and not reliable. When Sigma announced that they will be producing a 135mm f1.8, I was very excited but reserved, as Ive had bad experience with the above two lenses AF performance. However, with BHPhotos return policy, I decided to give it a try again. BOY am I happy about this lens it is incredibly sharp, and center sharpness to me, in practical use, is sharp as or even sharper than the 70200 2.8 and the 85 1.4. I use my lenses mostly wide open, so AF accuracy is paramount to me, and that too, is on par, or better than the Nikon lenses. It nails 80 of the focuses. Then comes the focus speed. It is a BEAST Very very fast focus, racking and especially with the limiter, its gets blisteringly fast. My copy of lens required no microAF adjustments in my pair of D800s and pair of D750s. Bokeh is incredible as seen in the images below, cleanestbeautiful bokeh Ive seen in a lens for a while. my 85mm 1.4G makes amazing images also, but this 135 makes very similar images with more compression. I am absolutely floored by SIGMAs quality on this lens, and its performance. I absolutely highly recommend this lens, and only con is the lens is HEAVY. Lots of glass in there at aperture of 1.8 at that focal length. It is not a carry around lens at all.
