I switched from Sony FE 24105 G to this little lens, for the faster aperture and lighter weight. It turns out exceeding expectation that this lens not only has a larger maximum constant aperture at f2.8, it takes pretty dang good images. The bokeh is also not bad for portraits, making it be a oneforall lens from landscape to street shots to portraits.I still carry a Sony FE 85mm f1.8 on the days I am dedicated for portraits, just for an even sharper image and larger aperture. But this lens is absolutely worth it.

adorama was the only site that had this lens for order in march and it came fast and on time Really great lens its really light and compact so makes it great for everyday use you do lose 4mm on the wide end but if weight is your main concern this is a great pick and for a great price as well highly recommend

I tried this lens thinking it might replace my Sony 24105 G at lower weight plus sharing 67mm filters with others lenses in my kit including the wonderful Tamron 2.870180 with which its focal length range dovetails. It failed. After confirming my sample was properly centered, I used a high contrast target to test central sharpness.ResultsAt f2.8 central sharpness was mediocre at all focal lengths. At f4 central sharpness is inferior to that of the Sony at all focal lengths. At 35mm central sharpness does not catch up to the Sony until f5.6.At 70mm central sharpness was mediocre at all apertures.Since the Sigma was unsatisfactory in central sharpness I rejected it without testing mid zones and corners. Ill keep my Sony 424105 with its superior optics, weather sealing, and zoom range, despite the slightly greater size and weight.

I purchased this lens from BH, tested it, and returned it.Most reviewers have matched this new Sigma against other f2.8 zooms such as the bloated Sony 2.82470 GM and the svelt Tamron 2.82878. My comparison was with the Sony f4 24105 G, which Ive owned several years. My Sigma copy was well centered. It handled well.I tested center sharpness mounted on an a7Riv using a high contrast BW test pattern. At f2.8 results were not good enough for my eye at any focal length. At 35mm the Sigma needed f5.6 to catch up with the Sony at f4.0At 70mm the Sony was sharper than the Sigma at all apertures.Failing to satisfy me with center sharpness, I did not waste time testing mid and corner performance.I had hoped this new Sigma would save me weight and bulk, with added convenience of sharing 67 mm filters with my Tamron 2.870180, Zeiss Batis 40 CF and Voigtlander 65mm ApoLanthar all of which I love, but it just does not make my cut. Ill continue to carry the slightly longer and heavier Sony 24105 G w 77mm filters when I need a normal zoom. I also appreciate the greater claimed weather sealing of the Sony and its significantly superior zoom range.

Purchased with Sony A7C to build a lower profile fullframe rig to not embarrass teenage daughters and still get high quality family shots. I bought for DAD use, not professional so Ill review that way. Size is a nice balance for the compact a7c. I previously shot A6300 with Sony 1670mmf4 so the in hand feel is similiar. Image quality, particularly in low light has exceeded expectations with the f2.8 head and shoulders beyond the f4. Lens is solidly built, important to me since Im pretty rough on gear, as busy parents trying to shoot and move with familyschool events tend to be. Looking forward to a full schooltravel year with this lens.

I have filmed a few weddings with my Sony a7s III and this Sigma 2870mm f2.8 and I can honestly say that I love this lensIts lightweight but feels sturdy and the autofocus paired with the a7s III is superbI would highly recommend this lens

I had a mix feelings when I just got this lens. Dont get me wrong.. I had a 2470 GM and sold it for this. Its due to weight, carrying the GM all day plus 2nd body with lens is a killer. After using this lens, I find it a tad sharper than my GM but more pronounced distortion however it outweighs my GM in terms of my needs. I like the Sigma color better , IQ is close to GM if not sharper , Close focusing distance like tamron but this lens is more fun to use , durable but smaller and lighter.

I have used a sony 2470 GM, the sigma 2470 art, and this lens on emount. this lens is almost identical in quality to the other two, at half the size and weight.Only quality issues are some minor distortion when you get straight hard edges near the edge of the frame at specific focal lengths and a chance for some cats eye. I take photos while hiking, so in most situations I prefer to not lug around my 2470 and have this instead.

Great standard zoom lens. Versatile and can be used for many different types of photography. Love the small size and light weight for a 2.8 zoom. No complaints so far.

Im new to this video and photography scene, but I think I made the right choice with this as my first lens. I borrowed a friends 2470mm sigma lens and liked it, but this 2870mm came out just as I was about to buy one for myself. Although it may not go as wide as the 2470mm, it is lighter and smaller in size, not to mention less in price, and does the job for me I use this with my Sony a7s iii

I have only used it once in a shoot and I can already tell that this lens does its job exceptionally well4 stars because ultimately would like the zoom feature to be within the camera body similar to the 18105 Sony.It may not be a fair comparison, but it would still be nice

I sold my Sony 2470 GM in favor of this lens because of the size and weight. This lens is sharp and focuses fast and weighs very little. Half the size of the GMaster.

This little lens is truly a game changer for me. I had a 24 prime and an 85 prime and needed something to close the gap.I do video as well, and wanted a zoom to be able to do dolly zoom and crash zoom. The focus and zoom rings are smooth as butter and there is almost no focus breathing which is a huge plus for video shooters. Bokeh is smooth.Make sure to go into your cameras setting and turn on distortion correction or else you will see distortion in your video and Jpgs.Autofocus works great and is dead silent. Very sharp and well built. Almost the exact same image quality as their 2470 art lens but almost half the weight and size. Perfect upgrade for people wanting something small to replace their kit lens or just prefer small lenses all together. 67mm filter thread is a very popular one and matches my other primes.
