I just finished testing a BUNCH of UW zooms, including a Leica 16353.54.5 Lmount, and this Sigma won. It has excellent resolution at all focal lengths and produces very fine images. Im VERY happy with its results.

This lens is BRILLIANT. It costs more than the 1.4 for a reason which that reviewer JAMES which does NOT have the lens and only decided to give it low rating because he cannot afford it, missedThis lens is amazingly sharp wide open across the frame unlike the 1.4, has great CA control unlike the 1.4 and the bokeh rendition is amazingly smooth where the 1.4 is extremely harsh and ugly.Sure is big and expensive but an OTUS which this lens outperforms, costs a lot more.So there is a reason for the price. This is a stunning piece of glass. So ignore that review by James. Hopefully BH will take that down and prevent him from posting any more of his insightful reviews…

Just arrived yesterday. This lens is amazing. It focus surprisingly fast and is about the same size as a 2470 gm. The lens itself is a little on the heavy side but consider the aperture its not that bad. When shooting at f1.2 is it a litte less sharp than i imagine d but it is as sharp if not sharper compared at 1.4 with the ZA 35mm zeisd sony. Overall nice lens, good quality and bokeh.

I recently purchased this lens and used on a recent trip to New Mexico, Utah and Arizona for landscape and astrophotography. I previously had used my Canon 1635 L series III with a Sigma MC 11, also an excellent lens. Regardless of the situation, the lens performed extremely well. Reviewing my images, the CA in my copy appears to be nonexistent, the focus is sharp from center to edges. Working with F 2.8 for astro, stars were sharp, minimal if any comma that I could detect and foreground definition was nice even wide open. For landscape shot between F8 and F16 and again focus was excellent. Shot multiple images for focus stacking but DOF so good that in most cases only needing to use 2 images for sharp foreground to infinity images. Based on previous sigma lenses Ive used expected weight to be an issue and thats not the case at all. This will be my go to lens from now on with my A7R3

This lens is amazingly sharp. It does have minimal distortion with close objects on the wide end. It is larger and heavier than some other options. Some trade offs are necessary if you want this FL range and f2.8.This is an amazing lens given the trade offs. Sigma Art series dont seem to sacrifice IQ for anything even if it makes the lens bigger and heavier. Im willing to deal with the size and weight to gain a wider view than the Sony or Tamron f2.8 options and faster than the Sony f4 option. I knew the IQ would be on par with or better than all other wide angle options so it was the perfect choice for me. It does not disappoint.

with the new Sony 35mm 1.8 coming out at half the price and half the weight I was having a hard time choosing this lens over that one, after much thought I decided to pull the trigger on the sigma and from the moment I got it Ive been nothing but impressed. its really sharp wide open, with minimal CA, the focus is accurate and fast enough. the bokeh is absolutely dreamy and smooth. distortion is apparent and definitely a weak point for this lens in addition to its weight at 2.4lbs both of those issues arent big enough to over come how amazing the image quality is. I highly recommend this lens I couldnt be happier.

This lens is awesome and great at everything you throw at it. The ONLY reason to get the 1635 is if you never go below 16 which I do and you like something to go beyond 24mm which I dont. My whole kit is Sony lenses besides this lens.

Ive had this lens out and about for a while now here in Korea and I am very satisfied with that I got for the price.Pros very sharp from f1.2 through f16. Honestly I dont even think about sharpness with this lens, I pick the aperture for the shutter speed and depth of field required and shoot. Frees up the mind to focus on more creative aspects of shooting, which to me, is the hallmark of good equipment. I shouldnt have to be thinking about how to overcome equipment shortfallsquirks while shooting.Autofocus is fast and accurate. I shot some f1.2 portraits of myself with a remote, and even with zero human oversight on focusing, I got sharp eyes using the standard center AF on my Sony A7RII.Manual aperture ring, AFMF switch why Zeiss, is this not on the Batis lenses, AF lock, welldone manual focus by wire…..all work without any tinkering or quirks, again, exactly how it should be.Good flare resistance, the lens was built assuming the use of filters so there is no severe vignetting even with a CPol stacked on a 10stop ND. Part of why it is so big. Again they designed it to disappear between you and the creative process, you dont have to think about the lens when shooting.Cons It is huge and heavy. I am seriously considering a second 35mm for backpacking. The rendering is accurate and clinical. Theres no magic like some brands. Not a big deal, just post process. There is field curvature. At f1.22 if I want the corner at infinity to be sharp, I need to focus at the corner. This is almost never occurring in real shooting situations. Its very much a problem if youre primary subject matter are resolution charts and brick walls at ultra wide apertures. Thankfully, I shoot real photos and not lens tests, so this has never effected a real world image.Dont hesitate

Before saying that its not worth the price tag, what about giving a chance to the Sigma people for bringing us this baby, on my side a 1000 is rapidly forgotten when your everyday tool brings you this je ne sais quoi that makes your images unique on top of your style of course.. Cant wait

This lens has probably reached the top of what can be realized from this focal length. It is absolutely sublime. Sharp as a tack but the beautiful bokeh is the thing Sigma have amazingly achieved at the same time. Its very difficult to do both wide open but they have managed it. If you can live with the weight just buy it Ill keep my adapted ZM 35mm 1.4 for when weight savings are at a premium.

Was using the Sony 1635mm f4 for the longest before I switched to the Sigma. Was really impressed by the sharpness of the 50mm and 85mm Art lenses I bought so I figured it wouldnt be much of a risk. While I love the Sony Zeiss, I wanted the lens to cover more real estate. A part of what I shoot are automotive events and wide angle lenses go a long way in delivering the you are there experience. The Sony Zeiss was 12 a footstep too close at times and I had to figure out how to step back in crowded event spaces. As for construction, the lens IS heavier than the Sony Zeiss but not excessive in any way. Others have commented about the heft of Sigma lenses but I actually appreciate it. Not sure what to do with the programmable AEL lock button on the lens, but nice to have. Weather sealing is great, although I typically do not shoot in inclement weather. Only concern is how the bulbous front glass sticks out just a bit when at 14mm. Putting the lens 24mm actually retracts the lens a bit so Ill have to get into the habit of that.Only gripe would be… Im used to rotating the lens clockwise to zoom in, and counterclockwise to zoom out Sony and other lenses are like this. This 1424mm is, however, the exact opposite. Not as annoying as how Tamron places the zoom ring on the front, and focus ring on the back.Highly recommend this lens. Sigma is doing a hell of a job with their Sony EMount offerings.

Ive had this lens only far a short time, so far all I can say is this lens is very sharp across the entire frame, even at aperture 2.8. I originally owned the Canon EF version of this lens, even though this lens is an entirely new design for the Sony E Mount, its right on the same level of image quality maybe even better, weighs 360 grams less, the smaller diameter makes much easier to handle. If youre familiar with ART lenses, you know what to expect in terms of build quality. Auto focus has been surprisingly really good, eyetracking doesnt miss a beat. Compared to the Batis 18mm this lens is superior in my opinion except weight. Cant comment on video autofocus quite yet with the small sample size I have. I was originally torn between this and the Tamron 1728mm. Bottom line, you probably wont dissapointed with either lens, but I think the Sigma will offer a little better IQ, have less chromatic aberration, be superior for astrography. If you do more video work especially on a gimbal want a lighter walk around lens, the Tamron is the way to go.

Like most consumers considering an expensive purchase I did A LOT of research before I pulled the trigger on my next wide angle lens.I chose the Sigma Art 1224 over Sonys native G Master 1635 I already have the Tamron 2875 so the 2835 focal range was already covered by that lens. Of course, now Im missing the 2428 focal range, but its not a deal breaker for me when I can move a few inches forward.Im 100 satisfied with my choice. Sonys GM lenses are great, dont get me wrong, but so is an extra 1100 in my pocket while also getting Sigma Art quality.

Also, I own the Sigma 30mm 1.4 lens for Sony A6500 and the Sigma 60mm 2.8 Lens also for the Sony A6500.I have watched every video on youtube and read every article i could on the internet. phillipreeves.net petapixel and camera stuff review did wonderful and great job in their reviews with photos to back up their findings. Also go to scantips EXPOSURE CALCULATOR to see the difference an f1.2 lens VS f1.4 lens will give you in ISO and shutter speed. The BOKET rendering especially in the portrait of the model where she is close to the len is absolutely GORGEOUS I highly recommend

I just finished using this lens for a week on a short film video shoot. I really loved the quality of the shots, and despite the weight, I was still able to balance and use it in a RobinS. My only issue is the focusbywire they put into this lens instead of mechanical focus. That made it almost impossible to manual focus a moving subject since the speed at which you move the focus ring will change how fast the focus changes.Because of this you cannot do consistent focus pulls. That said, it did work great with touchscreen focus pulls, but when I needed to focus on someone walking away, manually focusing was very difficult although I did have pretty good success with people walking towards the camera with letting the autofocus face detection do the work for me.I also used the Sigma ART 50mm f1.4 and it was WAY easier to manually focus and set up focus pulls ahead of time because of the mechanical focus system.Just something to keep in mind for video shooters if you are looking at this lens over the 35mm f1.4 that does have mechanics focus.

This is most certainly the best sony E mount ultrawide on the market. It is lightweight and small in consideration of the specs and performance. Image sharpness at 14mm f2.8 is easily comparable with some prime lenses stopped down to f8. Low vigtetting, has no chromatic nor monochromatic aberrations and suffers no contrast loss with only a tiny flair when pointed at bright light at certain angles. Only drawbacks are at 24mm wide open corner sharpness isnt as good as 14mm and not being filterfriendly. There is yet any rear optical glass filters to fit and gel filters themselves are useless.

I followed Youtube reviews by Christopher Frost snd Dustin Abbott. Impressed by sharpness edge to edge over zoom range and apertures with no caveats. Also, lack of coma and control of chromatic aberration. I dont mind the weight as it is for special occasions. I am very pleased with the results I am getting. Good purchase.

Received my initial copy of this lens and tested it as I always do. It was immediately apparent Id received a decentered copy. Returned it and bought another copy same issue. Love the lens. Some complain about the sizeheft, but I found it actually really heightened my enjoyment of shooting. Great bokeh, lovely character. But same right sided softness across a myriad of tests distant object in 4 corners without adjusting focus, brick wall test, etc… Still planning on getting this lens, but unsure of when as Im wary of another from this shipment right now. Its a relatively wide focal length, and lots of elements so some is acceptable, but to have two copies in a row with the same pattern seems unusual. Anyone else having decentering issues

i have a couple of lenses that over lap this focal length which made me very hesitant in purchasing the lens. I am very happy that i did The bokeh and 3d pop you get from this lens is amazing. Only downside i can say is the weight and size but besides that no complaints here. IQ beats those negatives any day of the week. here are some jpegs i have from a photo shoot i have done with the lens

I bought this lens to replace my Sony 1635mm f4, and could not be more pleased with the purchase. After extensive testing, it has proven itself to be sharp across the frame wide open, with minimal moustache distortion. And it simply blows away my old Sony in the corners. Yes, its a little larger and heavier, but thats a price Im more than willing to pay for such a high quality lens.

Im impresses by this lens performance, optically is very close to perfect, Im really really impressed at its quality on the wider end. At 24mm is not bad by any means, f2.8 at the center is ultra sharp as well, at the corners it softens slightly, but fortunately it shows no chromatic aberration, so nothing to worry about. The autofocus is quick and precise although not blazingly fast. And the manual focus ring is a joy, it is perfect for focusing on the stars when shooting astrophotography. The Adobe profile correction for distortion is weird, it doesnt correct properly to straight lines and over corrects for the vignette, so you probably need to create your own profile. And finally, the lens itself is well built, sturdy, and feels well balanced with my camera, I thought it was going to feel heavier or even look larger, but I guess Sigma is taking advantage of the mirrorless benefits for wide angle optical formulas. Good jobI recommend this lens 100

For some background, I generally do not mind lens price tags like this I paid 1,500 if the performance is outstanding and the rendering is beautiful. For the latter, the rendering is the reason to buy this lens. The look of a moderately wide angle combined with the 1.2 aperture is really a unique look. Fortunately, the lens is sharp at the point of focus whether at close distance or far and whether you are focusing at the center of the frame or midframe. If you focus toward the edges it can help to stop down a bit. The bokeh is really appealing not too busy unlike other fast 35s and I personally really like the vignette it produces. As for negatives, there are a few. I dont mind the size given its a 1.2 with autofocus, but I expected more symmetric distortion and field curvature. The distortion is a bit funny in that the correction affects one side of the image more than the other. Its not a simple barrel in the middle and that can make compositions on flat surfaces more challenging. The big issue I have found is the field curvature and in summary, the lens performance isnt a harmonic improvement when stopping down. Instead I find it is best at either 1.2 or smaller than f4. For some reason the field seems relatively flat at 1.2, but from 1.4 to f4 or so and in I cant get sharpness on a flat plane if I focus at the center at infinity. Using an offcenter midfield focus point is better as is focusing at a close distance where the curvature seems to affect the plane of sharpness less. The final issue is autofocus in that in single AF it can lock focus then refocus again on its own. Im not sure how that happens but also havent seen a firmware update.

I originally purchased this piece of glass to use for my real estate photography, but have also been able to use it for my landscape and Astro photography projects. Sure, it doesnt say Sony on it, and Im usually one to go with native Sony parts, BUT I am thoroughly impressed with both the build quality and AF performance of this lens. The Sony alternative to this lens is more than double the price and for me in this case that wasnt worth it. This lens is phenomenally sharp and with its fast aperture, I am able to capture a lot of light in low light situations. Definitely well worth the money for any landscape, real estate andor Astro photographer looking to expand their arsenal. Im sure it would work well with other genres, but I can only speak for the ones Ive actually used it for. 1010 recommend

Im mainly a landscape photographer, and this lens matches what I shoot pretty well. The center is very sharp f2.8, but a bit soft in corners, but once you step down a little, the corners are as sharp.

This is an amazing lens. Its sharp, the build quality is incredible, and the focusing is fast and accurate. Im very impressed with the quality of image coming out of this lens. The only true competition on the market for this lens is the 1635 GM, and this is sharper IMO. Im selling the 1635 and staying on the Sigma. The only downside to this lens is the weight. Its hefty, but with a battery grip, its nicely balanced.

Who doesnt want a 35mm lens with a f stop of 1.2 This lens delivers exactly that. But with great power comes great responsibility. Responsibility in this case being weight and a slightly noisy autofocus. So if you have a strong set of arms and dont record audio right next to your lens I would say this is the lens for you.

I had been eyeing this lens for a while. I knew that when I moved to a full frame camera that I would need an epic lens to go along with it, and as someone who has spent years shooting on a manual 12mm, this Sigma is absolutely wonderful I love the dimension and options that a wide lens gives, and paired with my a7r IVa, it is absolutely perfect for my needs. I have used it on landscapes, and I have even tried it on close up shots of flowers and insects. It has excelled at everything Ive thrown at it thus far, and I couldnt be happier. Image quality is excellent and this is a very capable lens. EyeAF works extremely well and nails focus every time and the lens is sharp even down to f1.2. The color and contrast are great and the bokeh is smooth. The build also feels solid and I love aperture rings. It isnt perfect though. Unless you really know you will use f1.2 a lot, I wouldnt recommend something this big. Its almost as heavy as my old Nikon 80200 2.8 and is heaver than a 2470 2.8. Given how good Sonys 35 1.8 and the Voightlander 40 are, you really ought to consider if that heft is worth differences that generally will only be seen in pixel peeping at more normal apertures if then. If you want f 1.2 then go for it but otherwise think twice. In addition to the most obvious con, which is the giant size, the biggest issue this lens has is flare that makes it a worse landscape lens than my Voightlanders. The autofocus sometimes will also pulse in and out in a way that my other lenses dont do and struggle to lock onto focus in landscapes with fading light.

One thing Ive learned through my years of photography. But good glass and good cameras. Everything else can be cheap. Buying Sigma lenses is a money saver for sure and most of the time is sharper and better than the name brands. You have nothing to worry about buying this lens. Its phenomenal and produces outstanding quality, sharp, and next to known lens distortion at 14mm. I couldnt have made a better purchase. This is my 3rd Sigma Art lens and soon there shall be a 4th.

I never thought Id be saying this about a sigma lens but, it is amazingI am a professional photographer with 28 years experience working around the world. I switched to the Sony mirrorless camera and was looking for a good wide angle lens that was sharp, fast, light enough to hang from a peak design mount on my backpack strap and well built to handle the elements in the Sinai desert. I was constantly blown away by the sharpness and clarity of this lens. Sigma delivered well beyond my expectations. Best wide angle I have ever owned and I would recommend this over anything else on the market.

I know that youre not supposed to use lenses like this for sports. I thought I would put it to the test during a local high school basketball game. What makes this lens work in this situation is that its coverage area is much larger than the scene, allowing to crop for a nice, tight image. Really bright. Lightweight. A joy to use. Looking forward to using it more in the future.

As long as you can work with the fringe distortion in your composition, you can make this lens work for your kit. The lens is sharp and has a great minimal focus distance. As a third party lens on a LUMIX body, it responds just as quick as any native lens. While it doesnt have any threading for ND filter attachment on the front, the third party Haide filter glass works great and fits perfectly in the rear mount. Overall, recommend the lens.

Get this lens Been eyeing and wanting Sonys 1224mm f2.8 but could not justify the price tag. Decided that 14mm is wide enough for me for landscape and astro photos. I LOVE my 2470mm Sigma f2.8 and this lens is just as sharp with no distortion. high quality and sturdy build. The Haida Rear ND filters are also phenomenal and a great value 4 portable filters for less than one traditional filter. Been shooting Astro with it and the f2.8 is more than enough. Compared my astro photos from this Sigma at 14mm to my friends new 14mm Sony Prime and I honestly can not tell any difference unless you blow up and pixel peep at the very extreme edges. Go ahead and just get it.

Once again the sigma art series didnt disappoint. The color rendering is spot on, the auto focus is fast with no problem, its extremely quiet, the sharpness is there with very little distortion. I took test shots at 14mm, 18mm, and 20mm, at 14mm there was little distortion in the corners of the frame, with almost no vignetting at all ranges. The only problem with most Sigma lenses, is the weight of there lenses. The Sigma 1424 feels really good while Im holding it, but once its in my camera bag with two other lenses The Sigma 35 art, and Sigma 85 , this lens does add a lot to the weight.

So macht Fotografieren wirklich Spass.

I previously owned the 1424 art lens for Canon EF. I loved that lens, but it was huge and heavy when adapted to my Sony cameras, so I sold it and bought the Tamron 1728.

Very sharp lens, even in corners at 14mm, f2.8. I do a lot of night photography and have used the Rokinon 14mm f2.8, the Nikon 1424mm f2.8, and the Tamron 1530mm f2.8. The first was slightly decentered, would need to stop down to f2.8 or 4. Otherwise very sharp on a7r4 and confirming all the positive reviews. The second would not get sharp until f5.6 in the center and should definitely not have left the factory. No problems with any returns to BH. Taking a rest. Image sharpness is excellent, even all the way to the edges of the frame at 14mm.

Fantastic combination of products, Adorama is always able to put together great deals The ND filters slide right in and theyre easy to use. The lens is extremely sharp and has a great build. 24mm is already an iconic focal length but worry not if you need to go wider. At 14mm, you can capture the Milky Way galaxy with a fast aperture of f2.8 and get all of it. Beautiful foreground compositions can be made with the stars as well. Fantastic astrophotography lens and landscape

I do tons of architectural and Real Estate photography. My Nikon 1424 served me well but after 3 repairs there were issues that just didnt make it worth keeping. I researched lenses and bought the Sigma 1424 Art.Right out of the box…crisp, clear, spot on images No flare. No artifacts around the edges. Each image is super sharp side to side and top to bottom.

Just got it and I use it in a bit of peculiar way, with a TZE adapter on a Nikon Z. So no profile automatically applied. I compared it with the sony 1635 GM and I kept the sigma and returned the GM.The sigma has much less field curvature and vignetting than the Sony GM and its centered. And its cheaper. Its a touch less sharp than the sony in the center but sharper as you move out from the center maybe because less field curvature.Disadvantages are AF works not as well but maybe a future firmware update of the adapter will fix it and no front filters only rear.

When focus is precise, which usually occurs, this lens is phenomenally sharp. I have the Alpha One. Even at 14 mm landscape photos, when I punch in I get the giggles. Video is pretty impressive overall but focus accuracy is occasionally difficult to obtain. However, I blame that on my camera so I dont hold it against the lens. The one negative I have found is less than stellar high ISO performance. I dont know if its just a wide angle lens thing but as soon as ISO gets up to 2000 or 2500 the image degradation becomes too noticeable. Particularly indoors but also for astrophotography. Some recent Milky Way images were shot at various ISO values. The most revealing images needed those 1600 ISO. Even at 1600 my images were blotted with typical noise as well as a significant amount of magenta blotted noise. However, the magenta noise is most likely camera related so again, I wont punish the lens. Overall Ill give this lens a 4.5, so Ill round up to 5. The sharpness is too impressive.

I highly recommend this lens I couldnt be happier.

This lens is amazing. Simply put. I love the fact you can declick the lens to shoot motion with it. And the 1.2, love it.

This lens has, so far, in my short ownership, been spectacular. Unbelievable sharpness, zoomed in, corners. I have been very impressed. Focus is fast and completely silent, I think. I am a photo shooter, not video, so make sure you check this out. This replaced my Sony 1635mm f4 lens so, getting the advantage of a full stop and somewhat wider field of view. So happy to get this lens and have it stand up to its reviews Very recommended

Tried a Sony GM 1635. Loved it. But think I prefer this.

I would be happier with smaller lighter f1.8 of this quality, unfortunately neither the Sony 35mm f1.8 nor the Voightlanders compare well.

I was really excited until I received a used lens at the new price. When you spend money for the fresh out of the box experience and someone else already put their fingerprints all over and it was shoved back in the box. This was a big let down and, I can not even pretend to be excited. Great product. Really screwed this up.

This lens is awesome and great at everything you throw at it. The ONLY reason to get the 1635 is if you never go below 16 which I do and you like something to go beyond 24mm which I dont. My whole kit is Sony lenses besides this lens.

One of my favorite full frame zoom lenses for Sony E mount. This lens is incredibly sharp and produces amazing wide angle shots. Ive been shooting with it for about 6 months now and I can say that this is one of my favorite lenses. Also great for astrophotography with the fast aperture of 2.8

If 14mm field of view is ultra wide enough for you and for me, its MORE than enough then this lens offers a fantastic range and exquisite sharpness and image quality the Art lenses are famous for. Mine is paired with the 24702.8 Art lens, and I really dont feel I compromised anything by not going with the GM variants.

It feels durable in your hand, and it dials in smoothly. Most importantly, it produces beautiful shots.

Vorige wide angle Tamron 1728mm. 14mm is perfect. Weinig lensfouten, haarscherp, goed contrast.

I tried several different ultra wide lens including Sony 1635 2.8, Tamron 1728 2.8 and this Sigma counterpart gives you not only 23 mm wider view, but significantly better overall sharpness.
