Demetrius –
I am new to using a light meter. The Sekonic L308XU light meter is perfect for me. Its small, compact, and pretty simple to use. I can see a difference in my photos already
Mark –
Convenient small size fits in pocket or small camera bag. Exposures are spot on with my more expensive meters. I wish that it reported 110 stops in all modes and I wish that the flat directional attachment was a permanent part of the meter.
Carlos –
This is my first flash meter, its really easy to use, helps you to set up your lightning to correct exposure in an easy and efficient way. Lightweight and compact.
daleinu.c –
Really nice easy to use light meter. All I had do was calibrate it to my camera and flash and it works perfect It is a real time saver It is a good value for the money Dale
Jon –
I am used to having a Minolta flash meter that was very easy to use. There are several more steps you need to initiate with the L308XU so it took some getting used to the meter. Its a good meter, I just am not used to using it.
Jessica –
I purchased these when I bought my Westcott FJ400 strobes as I wanted to have a clear read on what my power out put was. Since majority of my work is at client businesses, I didnt want to be fumbling and guessing my settings. That said I wish I would have done a little more research on this light meter. I knew it wouldnt fire my strobes, and I was ok with the way you set it up to read the strobe light. Once you have your settings you hit a button to ready it to read the light, then I click the test on my strobe remote and it gives you a reading. Now for what I was more annoyed about. It took my awhile to figure out how to change the shutter speed options from 1 stop increments to 12 stop increments. I honestly just wish that it would come set up with all the shutter speed settings available, and if I wanted to change it to 13, 12, or 1 stop only that I could then select that. I probably just have a lot more to learn, but I just wanted to set it as close to my sync speed of my camera. Especially if I wanted to shoot at a lower aperture.I struggled with 4 or 5 stars, but ultimately decided 5 stars as it works as advertised. I should have really researched it more, and for the price it isnt a bad light meter. Had I had more knowledge and funds I might have went with the next light meter up.
ANDREW –
I only wish it had more shutter speed settings. It skips from. 1160 to 1250 but my cameras max sync is 1200. LUMIX GX9
Don –
Just us it when I need
Fabio –
This is a product Ive wanted for a while and Im very happy with the purchase, easy to use, light and good to carry.
Kathleen –
Fantiisic I just love it very accurate I use it with my Nikons D7200 and D3200 when I have them in Manual mode. i also use it with a Canon M50 in Manual mode. As i stated it very accurate
Walter –
What a fantastic replacement for my older Sekonic. Dont remember the model number, but was the equivalent of this. It had a swivel head. Finally died after about 25 years. I never had a meter last that long, so sticking with Sekonic. Time will tell. I like the idea of a belt holder, but seems a bit awkward. Just keep in my shirt pocked like I did the old one. I use it mainly as a reflected meter. A bit to get used to turning it around to take a reading. Works and doesnt risk problems that could arise in the twist head.
jolelemk17ebg –
Great product looking forward to using it
CR –
Easy to use and several YouTube videos explaining how to setup and use
Jeffrey –
Functions perfectly for my needs. If I had to have one wish it would be that it could fire the flash remotely but none of the Sekonic models do that for Godox or Flashpoint speedlights or monolights at this time. Wish that were so.
theodore –
Just received this light meter 3 hours ago. I did several test shots in varying lighting situations to see how it does its thing. Perfect. Every single time. I got this to use for incident readings. In fast changing light situations out on the street its not always possible to use the cameras light metering quickly enough without losing the moment. Incident readings allow me to set it and forget it. Between the time I ordered it and received it I watched a couple of YouTube videos on using it and was able to open the package, pop in the AA battery, and I was up and running. I am not new to light meters. Back in the ancient times of film I used a few cameras that had no light meter and used a high quality meter. But even if you have never used a a handheld meter you will be an expert with this one in a matter of minutes.
Cameron –
Great unit, that works perfectly
Randall –
Easy to use and removes the guess work.
Alexander –
Intuitive to use. Love this thing. Always gives me the right levels makes my histogram look great.
Gagnon –
Good product
NATHAN –
I am new to light meters so take this with a grain of salt. This is simple to use and has helped me save time while shooting. The readings get the exposures right on or darned close depending on shooting environment. I have always been reluctant to get a light meter due to the heavy cost. If you are on a photography budget, I would highly recommend this product. It wont eat a large chunk of your budget and will save you time dialing in the exposure. And time is money.
NIK –
Totally awesome if youre into awesome stuff
Ivan –
The Sekonic L308XU Flashmate Light Meter works as described. Im glad that I purchased it.
Matthew –
So since I was never formally taught the art of photography Ive had to be self taught whether it be by books, Youtube, or even the small photo class here and there for a couple of hours. The biggest hurdle Ive had to overcome has been my exposure settings for landscape photography. While I can usually get it right after a series of shots and a decent amount of time getting to that point this device helps me get the settings right a lot quicker freeing up more time to spend in other areas. So far Ive just used it for some minor test shots to see how it does I am excited to hit some spots this spring and summer to really put it to the test. I have no doubt that it will do its job.
Richard –
Very nice light meter and very easy to use and accurate.
Bryan –
This is a great little Light Meter. I highly recommend. Not cheap but also wont break the bank.
Ilene –
This is the first time Ive used a Light meter and found it very easy to learn. Controls are straight forward. Definitely made a quality difference with my exposures.
M –
Having taken pictures for 50 years, I have always relied on my cameras internal meter but In my 2nd yr photo class . metering is part of the project and a must. It only made science to purchase one and I have to say it is easy to use, has been pretty accurate and light weight. in fact so light weight you can forget it is in your pocket. Its all good.
jac2086 –
For the price and for its small size this is an awesome tool
Cesar L. –
Accurate, small and reliable. All you need form a light meter at a decent price point. Really easy to use.
ivygold50 –
My review about the product is good, what i want the company to know is about the company that delivered it,just knocked the door once without waiting for an answer and threw it in the front door with the risk to be stolen.
David –
Great little meter. Does what I need. Well built.
Keith –
Love this meter Its a quality product that fits within my limited budget. Certainly satisfies all my needs as an analog photographer.
PAUL –
This is my second sekonic ambient light meter. More accurate than camera meter. Compact size, fits in my pocket. Great tool for photography. I would recommend this product to anyone interested in photography.
Dorin –
Makes life so much easier And saves me a few test clicks…I use it mostly as a flash meter, but its very useful for natural light too, especially in difficult conditions.
Daniele –
Seems simple and easy to use and gets job done. As always, quick and flawless delivery from BH.
Debbi –
I am very satisfied with the L308XU. While at a good price it gives me accurate lighting analysis for a good combination aperture and shutter speed as well as ISO. Also its easy to use and small enough to fit in my pocket.
Abdullah –
I used the meter both at night and at day and it gave me pretty accurate results, highly recommended.
Randall –
Love it easy to use
Rennis –
An upgrade from my previous lightmeter. I love the small size and very accurate readings.
Man yu –
Both aperture and shutter priority
Angalee –
It was a little tricky to figure out how to use this. But with the instructions and after watching a few YouTube videos, I think Ive finally got it figured out.
Mike –
I bought this to use with my classic Bronica film camera. The meter is easy to use and does everything I ask. I am a weekend warrior that shoots landscapes. That is my use and this is just fine for me.
Dick –
This seller was on the ball. They notified me when it was shipped and when it will come to me, and it got here right on time. I only gave the light meter 4 stars because I have not had a chance to use it yet. The owner was outstanding, and I would buy from them again.
Elliot P –
Perfect allaround light meter for my Sony a7riii kit
Darryl –
works great along with the it value. does everything you would need if your on a budget
Dominick –
Compact, accurate, and easy to use. There are some more complicated features that can be played with, but for my use this performs wonderfully
Carlos –
Love this small light meter, fits in your pocket, very light and very accurate. Easy to use and does what its made to do perfectly. It also takes just one regular AA battery so no worries about replacing batteries.
tho9681 –
The meter preforms as advertised. Both flash and ambient preformed flawlessly.
Juan –
Great for the price and gets the job done
Paul –
I primarily bought this light meter because it can be used for incident metering a flash, especially for old corded type flashes. I have started using my 40 year old 35mm slr Nikon FM with a Sunpak auto322 flash again and needed a meter to accurately set my exposure which I had not been able to do in the past. This unit performs all other types of metering imagined and has options to accurate fine tune settings. For its price point its a steal, very easy to understand and use. It exceeded my expectations. With its available options it is quite versatile. I would recommend this meter especially if someone has started to get serious about shooting in analog.
Mike –
Works incredibly well, Very simple to learn and understand. I bought it as a first meter but I think it will work as a permanent meter.
cdbose140c –
I bought the Sekonic L308x light meter to measure by lights for portrait shootings. It very easy to use and to my surprise how accurately are the measurements. The skine tone and the garments were perfectly balance. I do recommend this product.
Mallon, –
Good size for pocket when the big L758 is getting in the way. Simple to use without a lot of secret codes to remember. The only downside is it can only be calibrated for 1 camera so some camera bodies are a 1312 stop off sometimes. Close enough for a test shot. Do wish the reflected meter lens was just a bit narrower.
hector462 –
Worth it
Robert –
Quick and easy to work with, directions are short and easy to understand. Ive already used the unit to take measurements for lightingstrobe placement at an upcoming wedding. Found it to be quite natural to work with. Had an older style meter but it was film era and had the dials and analog sweep hand display. Did some basic research and found this brand and model specifically rated very well for being accurate and reliable but budget friendly.
John –
Ive had a L308S for years worked great and its the most pocketable meter available. It always drove me a little bit nuts that it didnt have an aperture priority setting like my dual master Sekonic. Not a big deal, but annoying to have to click up and down to land on the aperture you want. When I found out that this updated version has AP, I bought one. Love it. The lumisphere on my old one came loose from going in and out of tight jeans pockets so often. I suggest locking it in place with some gaff to keep the little plastic detent nub from shearing off.
Chuck –
Not a lot of extraneous features Ill never use. Just a good basic lightflash meter. Straight forward, works as it should. Easy.
Tony –
I was looking for a small and accurate meter after my Minolta died after over 30 years of service. After a couple of weeks using this meter, I know that I made the right choice.
Colin –
I use this for video production, and it helps me create consistent light levels as I change locations but want to maintain a similar look for interview lighting. If you know light meters, this is a very simple and effective tool. The Sekonic website gives tutorials for the various modes. Very pleased so far, it stays in my camera bag.
jkajcdno9lyl –
The Sekonic light meter delivers everything they say it would do. Easy to use and accurate and is reasonable priced cant go wrong with it. Only used it a few times since i got it but im happy with the results so far, i recommend it.
Joanna –
I havent got the footage back that I used this sekonic with so maybe ill edit my review once I see what it looks like. I used it with a Bolex to shoot some 8mm film and it was easy to setup and use. Cant speak to its accuracy just yet but in terms of ease of use its 4 stars and it does have the setting for shooting film if you are planning on doing that.
Allen –
Great light meter. Cant wait to use it this weekend on my school project. Also order the bright green silicone case for added protection.
James –
works great just what I needed for my shoot would recommend
Frank –
I used it for the monolight and it works good it is pretty accurate
Jeff –
I have resisted using a light meter for many years. Finally thought I would try it. Wow. So easy and fast. Will never go back. This device is small and simple to use. Works great.
Antonio –
I bought this unit to replace an old one. And it just did its job Efficient and reliable No more guesses about light, speed or aperture. Just click the meter, set the camera and boom Only perfect photos
Dionicio –
Was debating between this one and the pricier option, ultimately deciding on this one. It has worked perfectly and has sped up my workflow.
Wayne –
Works perfectly as advertised. Very simple to learn and a great light meter. Its my first light meter and I am very happy with how much it has added to my game. You will not be disappointed.
Dale –
Works easily and well. However, I am not able to use it to meter Flashes triggered by my Olympus EM1ii as the camera uses an optical system a preflash to communicate with the Flashes. This Sekonic meter measures the preflash, not the actual flash. Very disappointed in this.
Robert –
You cannot go wrong with Sekonic light meter. This one has the perfect balance between simplicity and all the optionssetting you can want.
acamera123 –
It has newer features than my old meter. If I need them or choose to use them, they are there. It was a refurbished item, and a good value to me.
Matthew –
I have only had the unit for a few weeks but I am very happy so far. The unit I have is a high quality build. It is simple to use and perfect for my flash photography projects.
Peter –
Has produced exquisite resultsYet to try measuring flash intensityAmply complex and precise…
Klebe –
Couldnt ask for anything better for daily use. Multifunctional. Easy to use. Straight forward. Accurate. Definitely a keeper.
Marshall –
Being familiar with light meters, I can see this coming into great use and benefit. Though with a broken camera, Ive not been able to put it to great use. Though walking around checking exposures almost everywhere and refreshing the habit of seeing the light better. I had to download the manual in PDF form, so I could read it. And theyre very thorough in bring one into an understanding of the meter. Looking forward to really putting this baby to work. To which Im sure it will handle the task very well.
JEFF –
Ive started doing some food product photography, shooting in manual mode. Though I know what settings I should use, theres almost always a bit of trial and error, especially when Im out in the field at a restaurant or other potential client where I may not have complete control of the environment. The light meter practically eliminates trial and error. It gives me beautifully exposed images nothing too dark, nothing blown out.
James –
I demoted it by a star because paying 30 extra for a 0.75 piece of plastic, the Lumidisc. irritates.
Sudipta –
A lot of meter for the money. Totally removed the guesswork out of my portrait photography. Easy to use and accurate. money well spent.
RYAN –
Excellent light meter when using my mamiya RZ67.
konrad –
Accurate and simple
Robert –
Love this meter Small but does a great job
John –
Compact and accurate, this probably represents the best valueformoney digital meter out there at the moment. You can get a Gossen at a similar price but the ergonomics are completely different. Most people will either prefer one or the other. I prefer the Sekonic. But ironically, its the ergonomics that I found hardest to deal with. To be fair to the meter, this is simply because I have huge hands and this is a very compact meter, normally a selling point. Test on digital and film confirms that this meter is very accurate out of the box. Since it cant be calibrated to the camera, this is a very good start and realistically, what I need most from a meter.Be aware that this model has no cine mode.
Marc –
Nothing more and nothing less, it just works great. What else can you ask for a light meter
Uri –
This is a basic light meter but it has all the functionality that I require.
Joe –
Im just starting out in photography so I really appreciate the 308s simplicity and ease of use. Right out of the box I was able to understand how it works and get up and running. I
Jeffrey –
Perfect piece of equipment for those starting out with studio lighting.
Suzanne –
Til now, Ive just gauged my strobe or speedlight by instinct and trial and error. Ugh. This takes all the guesswork out of the equation and makes my set ups and sessions go faster. Im still getting used to using it but its actually a really simple tool that will have you up and running right away. Tip search the web for tutorials. there are many and they really sped up my learning process.
Steven –
Wow this past year I have been experimenting with OCF and got allot of mixed results from the meter built in my camera. The other day I grabbed this meter and made a low light shot. The only thing the meter asked me to do was change my ISO. I didnt have to change my shutter or aperture. I have wanted a Sekonic meter for along time. Its got to be one of the most useful purchases I have made in my photography bag. If you get confused on how to use the meter Sekonic has posted videos on the never ending You Tube.
Jack –
Heres the non long winded review. The L308XU Flashmate is an accurate meter for both flash and ambient light. Its price is extremely reasonable and the compact size is a godsend. Definitely money well spent.
Eugene –
Excellent light meter. It can take the guess work out of getting the correct exposure. Easy to use. A good compliment to a cameras built in meter.
Kate –
this one is a lot newer than any light meter i had used previously. i admit i did not read the manual but after some tinkering was able to figure it out pretty quickly. highly recommend as it seems to be meter pretty accurately and seems to be durable.
Patricia –
I borrowed an earlier version of this light meter and was surprised on how easy it is to use and to change settings. This newer version has more features of which Im looking forward to try. It sure saves a lot of time in setting flash power.
Kirk –
Excellent light meter. Easy to use and accurate. Great price Would highly recommend it.
Michael –
Own and still use a functional Sekonic L358, and this is a second unit for a separate location. This L308XU measures exactly as the other. Use them mostly for outdoor product photo withwithout flash.
Kamalaksha –
Great tool and specially when am on a timeline, cant spend too much time on trial and error Additionally it brought life to my film SLRs. I havent tested it fully yet but so far so good.
Brittany A –
Absolutely brilliant.
Michael –
After using this product in studio for class, I finally got one for my business. It is a great simple to use light meter and works great It is a reliable product to use until upgrading to more advanced light meters. I highly reccomend this product
Dominic –
Great tool
Lyle –
I use it mostly for checking the exposure when using strobes but it will also work as an incident or reflective light meter. Simple and easy to use.
Moshe –
The meter is preceded by the 358 predecessor which was an East to read, accurate and inexpensive meter. It is more compact but nevertheless just as East to read. The hand grip and controls are easy to use although a large hand might feel it to be awkward somewhat.Overall a great reliable meter which is likely to last many years just like its predecessor.
Stephen –
I will be using this for multiple flash use. The L308XU is so easy to use and intuitive. Using it soon becomes second nature. I think it is a great value.
Grant –
This works very well. It is easy to understand and accurate.
James –
So far, only a few days, it does what I expected.I was disappointed I had to buy the lumidisc extra, but it wasnt promised with what I purchased.
Harout –
A very decent and affordable light meter with lots of functions and settings.
gregory –
I bought the Sekonic L308XU Flashmate light meter and I would highly recommend it to all of my industry friends. I find that it is essential for many conditions that we as professionals and amateurs encounter. The Sekonic L308XU allows me to virtually eliminate using my cameras meter and trust it for all readings. on a very small area now using spot focusing. This meter enables me to find the best exposure in other conditions, too, because it measures the incident exposure as well. This meter is a great investment that will not break the back and allows me to put it in my pocket as it is very portable and convenient. The added light for dim areas is a benefit as well.
Peggy –
this is the 3rd or 4th Sekonic meter I have had in a 40 year career. Pretty good Id say.
WILLIAM –
Many dont see the need for a light meter, relying on the modern camera meters. The Sekonic 308 has the necessary basic functions, is accurate, and I think a good value. Sometimes I use the meter when I am scouting different settings, including indoors to decide what lenses and or flashes I might want to use. I also think it is useful when using reflectors, diffusers, and flashes outdoors.
mikee409 –
Works great for what it is. Correct exposures are easy to achieve. The only ting missing is it wont do HSS.
Katherine –
This light meter is replacing my last Sekonic which lasted over 20 years Easy to use and very accurate.
John –
Very nice small enough to fit in your pocket spot on accurate, for walking around its perfect and for BH five stars
Steven –
This is my first separate light meter since I owned a CdS Sekonic almost 50 years ago when I purchased a Topcon RE Super with TTL metering. I had not used the occasionally superior method of incident metering since then but the Sekonic is great for nailing better exposures with my Canon EOS cameras 80D and 6DmkII. The flash metering capability improves my results with Canon Speedlitesnow I rarely use their ETTL function as I use them manually in less direct ways. I will purchase an optional lumidisc after I start using radio controled, multiple flash setups.
Raymond –
Easy to use. Works as advertised
Jeffrey –
Ive used sekonic in the past. This would have been around the mid 90s. Its a very good brand. Very dependable. That said, this new light meter is very similar in looks to what I used in the past. Heres where it diverges. First, this thing feels like a toy. Its literally a fraction of the weight. The plastic that covers it feels cheap. It has a hollow sound to it if you play with it. Other than that, I absolutely love it. As a light meter it was great. I just feel that I need to be a little more careful with the handling of it .
Rick –
The package arrived very quickly after ordering and worked perfectly. The meter comes with a very nice protective case. Cost wise it is comparable with all other suppliers.
Brian –
Hoping it takes some of the guesswork out of tricky exposure situations.
Harold –
I have not had any problems Adorama in the past. Their ordering process, return policy and their shipping is very user friendly. What I really appreciated about Adorama is after theyve done their part, they will not leave you in the dark you can call anytime with questions and they will guide you through any issues you may have, thats why I keep coming back.
Fred –
This little meter is essential when using strobes or speedlights. It is a must have for any serious photographer. Great value.
Dr. James –
I thought light meters were no longer of value. I am taking an advanced photography class at Johnson County Community College. Based upon the recommendations of our professor, I learned that light meters were still of value and even necessary. This is one more tool to help me create better photographs. This is a great meter, and it makes me appear to be a better photographer Ill take anything that makes me look good at me look good
Noah –
Ah yes, the choice meter of many film photographers many of whom, including Willem Verbeeck, use the incident cover to do reflective metering, and somehow it works, and in my opinion, the best new light meter you can buy today. As much as I respect Sekonic and their product line, it seems like every other product they make has a touch screen and a pretty clunky OS behind it. This meter though Pure LCD and buttons. No faff. Incredibly easy to use, fits very well in my bag and pocket, and feels incredible in the hand. They clearly thought of everything. The strap it comes with is SUPER long, if you were planning on wearing this on your wrist I would buy a separate strap.
Otto –
It does exactly what I need and was not that expensive. I was not using it much, but when it came to trying to get a white background to work it was crucial I could quickly meter all the needed locations. It does not trigger the flashes, so if you need that then a more expensive model is probably needed. For me it is plenty, I have Nikon CLS so can trigger everything with my remote and take the reading with this guy.
Dan –
So far very reliable and does what it intends to do very well. A must have when using multiple flashes set on manual.Reasonably priced.Helps you to set up your lightning to correctexposure in an easy and efficient way. TheSekonic L308XU flashmate is an essental part of any photograhers kit. Fast Free shipping from BH .
Serge –
I bought this light meter primarily for educational reasons I want to learn more about lighting, and I needed a light meter to actually see how different lighting scenarios affect highlight and shadow areas. I did some research and this unit came highly recommended for having the best pricefeature combination. Its easy to learn to use, and I had no trouble figuring out how to switch from a constant to a strobe light source. Readouts are fast and accurate. I look forward to improving my photography, and portraiture in particular, by learning to use this meter on actual shoots.
Isaac –
Super useful tool with incredible features all compact into an easily portable device
David –
Excellent product. Does everything as expected.
Will the Picture Man –
Sekonic outdid themselves with this meter. Its simple to use, but accurate. I love the simplicity of it
LAUREN –
Great little light meter which gives accurate readings. Easy to carry around and operate
Rafael –
This is so useful for everyday use So light and non interfearing with my day
Robin –
I bought this meter as a backup to my Sekonic LiteMaster Pro L478DRU. It is just as good but about 200 cheaper. Basically the same functions and exactly the same accuracy as you can see in the photo. The Sekonic LiteMaster Pro L478DRU has a built in radio trigger that fires my Pocketwizards and an option to turn your LCD screen background to pink or blue. Worth the extra 200 nope.Im a working professional and use meters several times a day. This Sekonic L308XU Flashmate Light Meter is all you will need and is just as accurate and the more expensive meters.
CRYSTAL –
I bought this for a wedding so I could have exact exposures at the wedding and it was giving me crazy exposures. I had to do my exposures myself instead. I miss my Seikonic L358, but it broke last wedding, which is why I bought this. Complete waste of money.
Daniel –
Excellent. As expected
mirthtinged –
Works exactly as described. I need the incident and reflective option so this is a perfect meter for a reasonable priced.
PETER –
This is a great light meter which easy to use, and creates pictures exactly how you want to expose them. It is an affordable product made by Sekonic who manufacture great light meters.
GARLAND –
This is a great light meter
Dr. James –
I love this light meter. I purchased it at the recommendation of my photography professor. I could not be happier with this purchase.
William –
The Sekonic L308U flashmate is an essental part of any photograhers kit. As a mobile photographer I never know the conditions I will be shooting in but, with the Sekonic L308XU I can meter the conditions and be shooting in a flash
NATHAN –
This light meter hits all the main points inexpensive, durable, ACCURATE, easy to use, and compact. This meter is a workhorse backed by Sekonics fantastic reputation.
Adair –
Very compact, and it just works… nice to be able to carry this thing around, not bulky at all
Rich –
A reasonably priced meter that does almost everything you need for incident, reflected and strobe readings. Lightweight too.
mgmer –
Im an old school photographer. Loved shooting 4×5 Owned Hasselblad, RB67, Leica with 5 lenses, Nikon F2 Shot in studios, outside, amphitheaters, beaches even in the Astrodome back in the day. I used a LunaPro then This 308 is so easy today. You will love
Jeremy –
This is my first light meter and Im loving it. Definitely makes getting the exposure right so much easier. Instructions were confusing but I googled a couple of how to use it videos and I feel like a master of light now.
James –
It has worked flawlessly since I got it. It seems more accurate than my last meter. Ive had a Sekonic Digi Lite F, L328 for about 30 Years, so if this one holds up half as well as that one did, Ill be very happy.
Joel –
Amazing product. Easy to use, makes my setup time easy by getting the right exposure from the start
Hugh –
Easy, accurate so far as all my Sekonic meters have performed through out my many years of photography.
Joe –
Very reliable. Fast shipping
crystalkjellberg –
Fantastic light meter Great for anyone learning light or just everyday photography.
Maria –
The lightmeter makes its job, it is precise like always Sekonic but for the price it looks expensive. It feels kind of delicate, with a cheep plastic and I always have the feeling that it will brake. In a filmmaking environment I have the feeling I have to take too much care of it, anything can damage it.
James –
This is a great everyday, everywhere meter. So light and small, youll have to check your bag to know you have it with you. Does a great job with everything Ive thrown at it.
Russell –
This light meter rocks. Has vastly improved my photos over incamera metering in marginal lighting situations.
Aaron –
Im loving this Sekonic L308xu flashmate It really does take the guess work outta calculating exposure and so easy to useAdoroma did a fabulous job with the order as well , I would highly recommend them for all your photography needs
Todd –
Ive been using a Sekonic Flashmate for 20 years now like the little design changes, particularly to the info on the display. Makes it easier to use, but with the same reliable accurate readings.
Rodgers –
I still havent figured out the menu and controls. Manual seems like it is for another gadget
Stephan –
Put battery in, turned on, took reading. Took pictures.
LaToya –
I was debating between this and the newly remade Minolta IV, which is the Kenko kfm1100 248 and I received a deal of the day email for the Sekonic. Im so glad I got this because as an enthusiast photographer, its so easy to use and user friendly. Maybe as I become a pro and see that I need more options Ill upgrade, but right now, it serves its purpose and I got it at a steal. Very happy customer

Great meter for basic metering or as a spare. Tested it against other meters and was spot on Easy to set up and very user friendly. Great meter for the price.

This is a dandy little light meter. Though it might appear to be a scaled down version of Sekonics higher end productsand it isI prefer it because of its size and all of the features I need.It comes with a protective pouch and lanyard. It has a simple but straightforward design that is practical and functional.Reflective and Incident light are measured easily. To really see the advantage of using a light meter that measures incident light also known as ambient light, use your digital cameras built in light meter on a wall that has light and dark surfaces. I found my cream color house with blue window trim to be a good target.Use Aperture priority or Shutter priority and set either to be the same for two photosone on the bright surface and one of the dark surface. When you compare the two photos you will find the bright surface is underexposed and the dark surface overexposed. Make note of the exposure. Now, put your camera in manual mode and use the light meters Incident mode to take a reading right on the surfaces with the meter pointing toward the cameranot the surfaces. Note the reading and set your camera accordingly. Be sure to use the same aperture or shutter speed that you used in your first two shots. You will find that the exposure is accurate because the camera is not automatically trying to adjust the exposure to fit a certain shade of gray.I do recommend the cushioned grip accessory even though the pouch comes in the box. It is likely the meter will hang around your neck and bump into things. Not to worry, even with the grip and the lanyard wrapped around the meter vertically they all fit into the pouch. My only suggestion is to have a velcro belt loop so I wouldnt have to remove my belt to remove the protective pouch.FIVE stars easily.

In incident light mode, the meter uniformly gives an absurd F stop suggestion that results in a completely over exposed photo. Yes, I have the ISO on the meter set correctly, as well as shutter speed, even though shutter speed is not a factor.Sekonic customer support says that the meter is picking up the preflash from the camera, which could be true. But if so, it renders the meter virtually useless.I trigger two remote speed lights using Flash Commander mode on the Nikon D7100. They recommended I trigger the flashes through some other means for metering purposes, but if I use the test button on the flash itself, it doesnt seem to pick up the settings as transmitted by the Commander.Theres no question that I must be doing something wrong, but I cant figure out what it is.So far, a disappointment.

I am new to using light meters and this one was very easy to learn. I just watched a quick video and got to work. I am using it to shoot film as the meter in my camera broke. Excited to get my first roll back to see how it did. I think it has way more capabilities than what I will ever use but its nice to know I have the option Definitely recommend.
Claire –
Really happy not to be guessing anymore. I dont always use this, but when I do, Im very happy with the results.
siarhei –

dont have shutter speed 160,200 only 125 and 250 for flash, if you have nikon d5300 for example sync speed for flash is 1160 i cant metering with this device, and if use for example canon 550D sync speed is 1200, same problem. If you have pro camera, like me Nikon d850, you dont have problem when use this devices

I really enjoy this device. My metering is always accurate and precise, with the only limitation of a wide reflective reading.
Hector –
Great tool for correct exposure. I use it mostly with my analog camera and its very acurate.

I purchased this Sekonic L308XU to replace an old L208 with a sticky needle. In fact, the L208 works fine if you remember to shake the needle loose, but it was time for an upgrade.I have a variety of older film cameras, many with no metering or meters of unknown accuracy. Ive been able to make great images using the L308XU. It does a lot more than my older meter and I havent yet learned all the ins and outs, but Im very happy with this purchase.
BEN –
Ive been using this little light meter for testing both ambient and strobe, and find it to be very accurate. I appreciate how lightweight and small it is, as I like taking it with when Im traveling just with a camera backpack and every bit of space in my bag is valuable. It seems quite durable despite feeling like it wouldnt be.
Thermon –
Purchased to replace and old LunaproF as my eyes are not getting any younger.

First time using a light meter. Purchased the meter for setting up flash portraits. It was necessary for me to use the online manual to figure out how to use the meter. The instructions that came with the meter were not much help. Like using it for flash saves a lot of trialanderror with better results.
minitrax23 –
This is a must have for flash photography and to determine proper exposure. Works great.
donaldw47 –
Mint condition, simple to use and affordable.

Based on my experience, this light meter doesnt sense triggered flash all the time, so its not a very reliable tool to have around. Too bad I cant return since I past the 30 days return deadline.

Ive been an avid photographer for going on 50 years. Starting as a hobbyist, turning pro for a great number of those 50 years and finally retiring to a photography enthusiast in 2010. When I started my photographic journey a good handheld light meter was an essential piece of equipment for any serious photographer as many of my cameras had no internal metering system. As time and photo equipment advanced into the digital age even the simplest point and shoot cameras come with very sophisticated light metering systems. But now as 50 years ago a simple handheld incident light meter is the way to go for insured accuracy. Over the years Ive had many handheld meters. My latest is the Sekonic L308XU Flashmate Light Meter. Very lightweight, accurate, and easy to use. I highly recommend the Sekonic L308XU Flashmate Light Meter for any photographer wanting to take their art up to the next level.
Gary –
Accurately measures flash for perfect exposure in studio or the field. I wish it could fire lights with wireless control, but carrying around the controller is no problem. Highly recommended
Steve –
With the latitude of todays cameras, can imagine needing anything more accurate or sophisticated than this model. Just right.
Shane –
Works great and helps setup for shoots fast and easy.
WILLIAM –
Great meter does what it is supposed to and very accurate.
Julio –
Super small. Its a pleasure to work with it.
