I bought this one particularly to use it on my PS5 as we know PS5 storage is sort of limited and no real expansion NVME is available now, however, you can plug an external SSD and play your PS4 games off of it in your PS5. That is exactly what I used it for and by God this one delivers. The load times is as fast and in some cases The Last Of Us 2 it loads even faster than the internal SSD I dont know why. So if you are buying this for your next gen console storage I highly recommend this. Its compact and its great value if you get the deal price. It also has amazing transfer speed on my laptop to from NVME internal drive to this SSD. I have the previous gen SSD of this model and it is actually twice as fast transferring data. So get it now if you are looking for an external SSD.

This little SSD is unexpectedly powerful and fast. My files boot up into photoshop so much faster than it would on an external, or on my computers hard drive. Its a great value for the price when you catch it on sale. I already plan on buying another one for my laptop. I previously bought a competitor brand and had to return it because it didnt work so I am glad I went with this sandisk SSD instead.

Pros Excellent compact SSD that worked first time. Good that it is supplied with two connector types usb3 A adapter and usb C. Good capacity vs cost and is very small and portable. I reformatted it and it now runs my Raspberry Pi400 on Linux like lightning. 10secs to boot to desktop I would recommend this item.Cons The connecting cable is less than 100mm long and would be better at say 200mm long.

Ive been using SSDs to do multimedia work and this Sandisk extreme portable SSD is just what I need. The SSD is rugged and it even has some water resistant rating not water proof but enough to guard against water splashes. So this SSD is also designed for the field, which gives you peace of mind if you need a portable storage that is field ready where weather and terrain condition might present a challenge to normal portable SSD. Even when you dont have the need to carry your SSD outside your home, having a rugged SSD gives you extra peace of mind as the SSD is shock resistant up to 2 meters of drop protection. It even has a lanyard hole on top right so you can clip on your carabiner and attach the SSD to your drone or camera bag.Performance wise, this portable SSD feels fast and even faster than the one I got a couple of years ago. This is important to note if you want to use the SSD for multimedia work where your multimedia files are stored and processed in the SSD instead of in your PCs hard drive. I dont feel the need to run performance benchmark as Im sure there are top of the line SSDs out there that will outperform this SSD. This SSD is fast enough for what I use it for.The USBC port is basically todays standard and it comes with USBC cable and USBA adaptor. Connecting the SSD to PC is very easy just like connecting a flash drive. This SSD features hardware encryption so you can password protect your SSD for security. This is one portable storage that you will use across your gadgets and computers iPad Pro, laptops, PCs, etc. In case something goes wrong, Sandisk offers 5 years limited warranty, which is nice, though I dont even remember when was the last time I need to claim for warranty from Sandisk.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is SanDisks newest model of small, portable, highcapacity Solid State Drives SSD, with a notable improvement in data transfer speed capabilities over its predecessor the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V1. SanDisk and its parent company since 2016, Western Digital have long been a highly respected and popular manufacturer of computer storage including hard disk drives, flash memory products and SSD devices. I rely on Western Digital and SanDisk for many of my own storage products because they have always proven to be very reliable products with excellent performance. SanDisk has cultivated an outstanding reputation for their flash memory cards and drives and for their solid state drives. The new Extreme Portable SSD V2 excels in several important waysThe Extreme Portable V2 is available in 500 GB, 1 TB and 2 TB models. The black enclosure appears to be constructed of nonmetallic composite which is clad on five sides by a silicone rubber material which from appearances should prove to be both rugged and durable. This is a mostly sealed device which is IP 55 rated for dust and water resistance. The IP 55 rating does not certify that a device is waterproof or submersible. An IP 55 rating indicates that a device is protected from limited dust ingress and from low pressure water jets. The USBC port does not have a sealing cover however. The dimensions of the Extreme Portable V2 are 4 78 in length x 2 in width x 716 in thickness. It is both light weight, and compact.Portable SSDs are extraordinarily convenient and useful for many purposes. Video content producers find them to be essential. Given their large capacity and high data transfer rates they are ideal for those purposes as well as data backup and storage, and notably, for use as a portable file store when using multiple computers, and particularly when travelling away from home or primary workplace. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is generally well suited to working when away from a primary computer. When travelling light, the SanDisk Extreme SSD is a good accompaniment to an extremely portable 13.3 Chromebook, as long as the SanDisk Extreme is not utilizing password protection data encryption security with the included, SanDisk Security Software. That compact, lightweight pair obviously cant run AutoCAD, but they easily accommodate working with Microsoft Office files, Adobe Acrobat files and other functionality not requiring hauling around a large, heavy and powerful laptop. However, if SanDisk Security Software is utilized, only Windows and Mac OS computers are supported. Most users will probably choose to utilize password protection and data encryption, and therein lie additional minor nuisance issues that I encountered, beyond the inability to utilize the SanDisk Security protected SSD with a Chromebook. The SanDIsk Security Software installation exe file for Windows computers and a zip file for Macs is located on the drive. The SanDisk Security Software installs on a host computer via that executable file on the SSD. The installed software is required in order to create, change or remove password protection and AES 256 Bit encryption on the SanDisk Extreme Portable V2 SSD. Unlocking the SSD can be accomplished with the SanDisk Security software application. However, the SanDisk Security software is not required to unlock the SSD. The SSD can also be unlocked on any Windows or Mac computer, without the SanDisk Security Software, via the SanDisk Drive Unlock Utility, which creates a Virtual CD Drive on the attached computer. Unfortunately, neither the SanDisk Security Software application, nor the SanDisk Unlock Utility work with Chrome OS.The SanDisk Security Software offers the option to AutoUnlock, on an attached computer with the full SanDisk Security Software installed. A convenient option, but antithetical to maximum access restriction security for the data on the SSD.When using the SanDisk Security Software I found that the time for the mounted SSD to be recognized by the Security Software averaged approximately 33 41 seconds. After entering the password, there was an average wait of approximately 8 10 seconds for the SSD to unlock. This period of roughly 50 seconds seems like a long delay when you are attempting to access your files. I am compelled to remark that when utilizing a competitors 1 TB SSD, which similarly provides AES 256 Bit encryption and password protection, and also includes a biometric security feature, that drive is recognized immediately, and unlocks instantly.Furnished in the box with the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is one, 6 USB 3.2 Gen 2 cable, terminated at both ends with USB Type C connectors. Also included, is a USB Type C to USB Type A adaptor. A 6 USB cable is absurdly short and is an impediment. Additionally, the small adaptor may easily be misplaced. Another SSD that I own included two, 17.5 long USB cables both a USB TypeA to USB TypeC cable and a USB TypeC to USB TypeC cable. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD should have two cables of decent, practical length, as well. There is a printed SSD Safety and Warranty Guide included, which includes a URL httpwww.downloads.sandisk.comdownloadsumssdinstallguide.pdf for downloading the PDF User Manual from the SanDisk website. Unfortunately, the URL printed in the guide is nonfunctional, and I could not locate a User Manual for this model anywhere on the SanDisk Support site. Perhaps the User Manual should have been included on the SSD.While exploring the SanDisk Support site, I downloaded and installed the SanDisk Dashboard, Version 3.1.2.5.. I was disappointed to discover that the SanDisk Dashboard software did not interact properly with this SSD. It did not display Drive Health, Temperature or S.M.A.R.T. passthrough data, etc. Nor did the diagnostics work with this SSD. Perhaps you will have better results with the Dashboard application I ultimately uninstalled it.The SanDisk Extreme SSD is preformatted in exFAT, with 512 byte sector size. There is no visual indicator for drive activity or power on the SanDisk Extreme SSD. I believe that an LED power drive activity annunciator would be beneficial. The high transfer rate specifications for the SanDisk Extreme SSD V2 are a very impressive 1050 Mbps for Sequential Reads and 1000 Mbps for Sequential Writes. Those fast data transfer rates are attributable to the PCIe Peripheral Component Interconnect Express bus, NVMe NonVolatile Memory Express memory and USB 3.2 Gen2 connectivity. However, those data transfer rates are only achievable when the host computer is similarly equipped with USB 3.2 Gen2 ports. The SanDisk Extreme PRO model SSD is rated at 2000 Mbps transfer speeds. My test speeds were limited by the USB 3.0 ports on both of the laptops available for testing. USB 3.0, data transfer rates were measured with Crystal DiskMark 7.0 at 458 Mbs Sequential Reads and 449 MBs Sequential Writes. Nevertheless, based on anecdotal observation, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 was extremely fast. Very large file transfers were very fast. Data transfer rates did not appear to be affected at all by AES 256 Bit software encryption. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 does become palpably warm when attached to a computer, even when idle, and generates heat in proportion to activity when it is actively in use. Large data transfers generate a lot of heat. I would presume that SanDisk employs a single layer PCM Phase Change Material to somewhat mitigate the heat generated by use presumably encapsulated paraffin wax. Nevertheless, the SanDisk Extreme SSD runs hot, and perhaps it may retain heat, rather than dissipate it effectively, as a consequence of the silicone rubber cladding which is likely insulative.Overall, the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is a very good portable SSD. It offers large capacity and very fast data transfer rates. The IP 55 rating is a valuable asset for portable SSD drives particularly when travelling. SanDisk provides a five year warranty on the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2, which certainly bests the typical three year warranties. The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD V2 is certainly worthy of consideration and I am comfortable recommending it

I could not find a driver to download so I simply plugged the SanDisk into my MacBook. I then drug the folders and files that I wanted to backup and they appeared in the SanDisk. I opened a few files from the SanDisk and manipulated them. Everything worked properly. The SanDisk is very fast and works flawlessly.

I brought 500gb SSD to store all my personal stuff. Here are some of pros and consPros1. Speed I added many Mp3 and Mp4s and it was quick2. Lightweight and compactCons1. The cable wire is bit small, I wish they could have made it bit biggerOverall happy with the product

The SanDisk external USBC is an excellent portable HD The speed alone almost outdoes the 2TB size of my new toy. Versatility is not stopped at portability either, as the USBC device has an adapter head for USB I plug in to my laptop, and then my phone just like that.
PhotoJournal –
Palm sized sleek design. Works great for storing photos and other documents. When traveling and doing photography I was using a conventional external hard drive but was always worried of a possible failure and loss of the photos I had taken. With a solid state drive you are not 100 safe but are in a much more reliable situation since solid state hard drives have no moving parts that could fail.
Alex –
I bought this to use with my 128 GB Macbook pro 2019 and Im amazed. It is so small, works great, and is really fast. I reformatted it to APFS apple file system, it took 2 seconds only. But the exFAT format worked just fine for Mac and windows.Regarding the speed, this one is just really fast with its 550MBs. There is no need to buy the Pro version which is using the thunderbolt max speed, this one is much cheaperThe cable is great, perfect size and short you dont need a long cable for such a small SSD drive.
JNP19 –
Ive done research on many SSD external hard drives. I even bought the Samsung T7 first. I have a MacBook Air and the T7 did not recognize the drive. I returned that and bought the SanDisk and it works perfectly. I was even able to partition it to use part of it as a time machine back up and the remaining as file storage. Its super quick and also has a real nice rubber coating to it.
Vasily –
Very fast SSD and very sturdy. At the same time small, which is great for travel. Nothing else to say really. Just great SSD. Decided to by this one, instead Samsung T7, same speed, but better in harsh weather and during travel. So, nice value overall.

I have three of the 500gb version that I use in conjunction with my ATEM Mini Pro ISO for capturing events. These drives are plenty fast to capture the 5 video and 7 audio streams and not lose a beat. Great value for the size. I only wish the data transfer cable were a touch longer.
Tracy –
Super fast read speeds. Works great with a ps5. I bought this ssd specifically for the ps5 and it took less than 30 seconds to format and ready for use. A little high price for a 1 tb. I wanted at least a 2tb but not willing to pay over 200 for an external hd right now. They really need to bring the prices down on these things
KaneM7 –
Very impressed with this drive. And the compact and rugged exterior casing with the speed as well.Standard port is USBC but comes with an adaptor to USBA.no drivers needed for win10 was autodetected and able to use.Encryption software is INCLUDEDDoes the job, good sizing at 1 TB and very quick

It is my first time purchasing a Blazing Fast External SSD. I always trusted SanDisk brand on SDHC memory cards and when I saw they make External SSD Hard Drive I jump on it and purchase how they perform as I tested it home its blazing fast and transfer is fast like 300gb under 20mins so cool Saves me time and waiting. Love it
sgtsdad –
I got it on sale and paid half with rewards. A little disappointed that there wasnt any backup software with it. Ill have to use Windows 10 os to do it. The drive is fast and can use usb 2.0, 3.0 or 3.1. I have large usb storage sticks and other ssd and Hdd. I just wanted this style drive also for my laptop. You can never have enough backup.
Justin –
Ive been using the V1 of this drive and purchased this one while on sale. Its slightly larger but still fits in my travel case for the previous model. Its super fast, feels very sturdy and solid. I edit 4K footage from it and havent had any issues. And of all the dozens of drives Ive used in the past these are definitely my favorite aesthetically That part isnt entirely important but with the softrubbery border around it I dont freak out when I accidentally bump it against something.
MadMensch –
This is a great SSD. It was a lot smaller than I expected and very thin. The only annoying thing is there are 3 versions of this same 1TB SSD so be sure to look at the transfer speed specs before pulling the trigger. Theres a 550mbps version, a 1000mbps, and 2000mbps version which are all named SanDisk Extreme. This version is the NVMe 1000mbps with USB 3.1 but theres also a USB 3.2 version which is faster.I transferred a 900mb video from this SSD to my Moms iPad Pro and it was so fast that I thought the file never transferred. Excellent price and great product from Sandisk.
campbelld –
Fast…tiny, has a good feel with slideresistant exterior. Comes with a short usbc cable and adapter which converts usbc to usb 3.0 so you can plug into laptops without usbc ports mainly PC laptops.I would prefer a second cable rather than the adapter plug. Not a big issue though.
DebraDR –
Love the size of it. Fits great in my purse for ease in transport unlike my older model that was bigger and more bulky.Easy set up on my computer and holds needed data great.I would recommend for anyone who needs portable access to documents on the go.

I am surprised at how fast this runs. I have used it to store some of my larger games onto and the difference is daylight and dark. The loading times are noticeably faster and games run much more smoothly. For instance, when the games were installed onto my internal drive, it took a little bit before everyone around me loaded in, the map loaded in, and even my character took some time to load in. After installing them on this SSD those issues are gone. Its very slim and the material is matte and siliconelike. It feels durable enough to put in your bag or pocket if need be. It also comes with SanDisks Security file ready to install as well. When I plugged it in it had 4.8 GB of free space. Im assuming the other .2 GB was the security program install. The cable is a USBC on both ends and then a USBC to USBA adapter. I do wish the cable was a bit longer. Where this is plugged into my tower on the back, there is no way it will reach a surface to lay on. When I plugged it into the front and tried to lay it on the top of the tower, it just slides off. I definitely dont want it just hanging down and putting stress on the port. If you were using this with a laptop then it would not be an issue.

I already love the SanDisk Extremes small form factor and water resistant shell. Ive had the smaller 500 GB version for a while now. The 1 TB is barely any bigger than the 500 GB with twice as much storage. It has a ring in the corner where you can connect keys or a backpack clip if you wish, and because its SSD, its very fast and has no moving parts. It really is perfect for traveling. Stuck at the airport Hundreds of songs on my SanDisk Extreme. Long flight Movies on my SanDisk Extreme. TV at the hotel is in a language you dont speak TV Show seasons on my SanDisk Extreme. Going overboard taking photos on your trip Push all the photos over to your SanDisk Extreme and free up room on your camera cards or phone. Waiting forever for the next, bus, tram, train or taxi when you travel Waiting to checkin, checkout, board, disembark, pass through customs Audiobooks on the SanDisk ExtremeI can do all of this, PLUS download the contact directory for a 1500person agency and keep copies of important memos and documents from work, and be able to handle an emergency from the other side of the world. With 1 TB of storage you can do all of that with room to spare. At home, I use 14 TB and 10 TB external drives for storing a complete library of music, movies and audiobooks. When I want to move content from one drive to the other, I use the SanDisk Extreme to move the content. The SSD makes the transfer MUCH faster than transferring directly between two platter drives.I really cant recommend this drive enough. The only way to improve it is to keep going bigger on storagenot size.
John –
Even smaller in real life than appears in photos. I use it for my offsite bootable backup drive. Im retired, so I no longer have a really convenient alternate physical location, so I keep this in the car. Not perfect, but at least its not at home when Im away. And I use it for backups when traveling. On photo trips I download images to the travel computer, never erase camera SD cards, and have this for backups so three locations for images.
Wilfred –
This series of SanDisk SSDs are my goto workhorse external drives. Two 1TB drives alternate as my video and still photo drives, and this 2TB acts as the backup for both of them. Tiny, fast, and much more reliable than the now ancient spinning drives, SSDs are definitely the way to go, and SanDisk is my favorite SSD.
Adam –
I bought this card specifically for editing videos off of. Its not fast enough to write to from my Blackmagic cameras, but I didnt expect it to be. Perfect for an edit drive being that its very durable. Also, much smaller than a 2.5 SSD. Long gone are the days of spinning drives and USBmicro. This thing will hold up for a long time
Cclo9 –
SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is great for all of our backup needs. This disk backs up files extremely fast and I love the durability and portability of this disk. I also love the fact that its waterproof. It has a lot of capacity too, which is great.
Michael –
This SSD hard drive is near perfect. 2TB, tiny, portable and rugged to the max I own two and bought another because you can never have too much backup. One weak point on this and all other similar SanDisk Extreme drives, there is no plug for the USB connecter. Why Who knows A simple plug would make it truly watertight, a foolish oversight. There is a newer version that is twice as fast at twice the price. If cost doesnt matter and a minute makes a difference, go that way. I am more than happy with this drive
Lee –
Pros Its very tiny small, thin and light, which is great. You could add a carabiner and hook it to a bag, a wallhook or even a keychain. Great 1tb capacity. Good price for SSD. Fast transfer speeds for large video files. Good for a nononline backup option.
Sattar2016 –
It is fast efficient, small and lightweight, fits in a pocket or wallet. it is worth the price. Excellent quality. files get transfer much much faster. I recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a reliable and durable external drive.
StarLord24 –
A must in my opinion All around speedy and great drive Does what I need it to, store my files does it effectively and I have piece of mind that if I accidently drop it, it can handle it with ease. Really fast write and read speeds, and looks cool on top of it all Not cheap but you get what you pay for.
rkl525 –
Purchased this drive when it went on sale for 149. What a bargain Blazing fast transfer and read speeds and rugged case make this a very versatile drive. USB cord could be a little longer. I use it for Xbox series X storage for my older games. They load almost instantly.
Michael K. –
I bought two of these for backing up videos and photos from several cameras while on the road. They fit easily in a small backpack pouch, giving me a great extra storage option when Im on the move away from my larger backup drives. I havent used the USBC functionality but the USBA adaptors work great and still transfer data superfast.
Alejandro –
today I got the sandisk. I was super happy because it is an important piece for my bmpcc but happiness ended in the next 5 minutes, the first thing was that I felt as if the disk was in use, that is, it had already been used and repackaged later when I put it in my mac pro to check the super speed that sandisk boasts so much about the disc heated up very quickly as if it were an iron. this extreme is supposed to be done for extreme things. I think Im going to return it, Im very disappointed.
SimonJ –
I bought one of these to backup a MacBook air, and well it is very disappointing. For my 2017 MacBook Air I need to use the USB C to A adapter which it comes with, and this is a very short stiff cable that does not feel secure at all when connected to the Mac, and I fear one slight movement will corrupt the connection and damage the data.nnThe second issue is that when using this with Time Machine, it goes Very Very slow. My 74GB backup took hours and hours and hours 5 hours, and was using a lot of CPU resources. Now this Extreme SSD claims to get about 550 MBPS, but in reality it is writing at about 4 MBPS average, yes about 4.1 Mega Bytes Per Second in 2020. In comparison my 2011 MacBook Pro had a Samsung 840 Pro in it and that had the same advertised speed, but backed up much faster. Oh and this San Disk Extreme also gets pretty warm too. So I think I will make myself an external enclosure and put an 850 Pro in it and have a very reliable very fast backup system over this as this is going to be a nightmare moving the files around as I have to do.
thoms42 –
The vault aspect of the device made me a little nervous after I read that a problem with the application left a user with no access to the files. I followed the advice of another user and reformatted to make it more compatible with no restriction on access. I dont intend to carry it around with me, so the vault was not a great advantage. It transfers at terrific speeds in general, so it serves my purposes exactly as I need.
DeBeau –
Small with great capacity. All computers recognize this external hard drive. I received many compliments from my friends. No many people knows that this technology is ease available. Great speed of transfer. No moving parts. Very nice price at BestBuy. I bought it as gift for my friend and girlfriend as at gift. They love it. I have 2TB at home for my use. Unbelievable product to use and even to touch the very smooth surface.
searowle –
This is a welldesigned product, very small in size, and represents great value for money to anyone looking for fast, multiplatform SSD external storage. It came formatted as exFAT, which doesnt have file size limits like FAT32, and the 250GB version yields 238GB free space minimum. The included cable is sufficient for most situations, although Ive ordered an additional slightly longer one these can be picked up for 5. The cable attachment port is conveniently accessible on one corner with a folding cover. No heat, no sound, true plug n play. Transfer speeds are impressive, especially on USB 3, although I havent yet done testing on file sizes of 6GB upwards. Speed over USB 2 is as respectable or better than any other external drive Ive used. No issues encountered when used with OTGcapable Android devices. Bottom line excellent price for volume of SSD storage, delighted with purchase
Jkaiser29 –
Probably a great drive but I had a bad experience personally. I found a same brand external drive was a bit simpler than this sanddisc for duplicating an internal drive.A little pricey compared to other options. I guess your paying for the durability of a highly portable design that is rubber and tough.
Maximilian –
The drive works ok for normal use but I had to return it for two reasons1. Theres NO PASSWORD protection, which is ridiculous for such a product. Pretty much every other portable drive has this feature.2. The Encryption feature is misleadingly described in the specs. Theres NO hardware encryption of individual files. What you get is a an app that creates an encrypted folder into which you drag sensitive files. Theres no way for any app to use those files directly, so you have to pull those docs out of there into a normal folder. Thats very cumbersome and means encrypting 1000s of your files impractical, except for long term archiving.

I love this new SanDisk 1TB external SSD. I have owned the previous generation of this device, both in 1TB and 2TB configurations. This new generation using NVMe storage technology is head and shoulders above the already excellent previous generation.Doing a direct comparison file transfer using my 16 inch MacBook Pro of the same 300TB of 4K 60FPS footage the new model completed the transfer in almost half the time. Thats write time. Doing it in reverse and this new model finished the same transfer in less than a third of the time. This was from internal SSD to external both ways.My workflow typically involves transferring raw footage from the camera on SD or microSD to one of my external SSDs to edit a project in Final Cut Pro. This means a fast readwrite time is important to me, especially when working with larger files. Currently I have a Samsung T5 and two T7s both 1TB as well as the previous gen SanDisk Extreme 1TB and two 2TB drives. To me, and without running any benchmarks, this new SanDisk feels faster than the T7s I just bought a couple months ago. Put another way Ill be buying a couple more of these new SanDisk drives when the 2TB models drop soon.I like the solid construction. Being both water and dust resistant along with drop protection is important to me. Plus I just really dig the look and feel with the soft touch finish.
Baldie –
Great form factor. Really fast. Happy with the price. But the unit bricked with a power loss. SanDisk replaced it on warranty without any issues except the time factor which is inevitable. I was counting on this drive as a system backup for my dads Mac Mini and his 55,000 photographs. Due to the nature of the technology I had assumed that it would be immune to a sudden loss of power but my experience proved otherwise. I had another SSD that I had to use while waiting for the warranty replacement that dropped from a power hit as well which is when I discovered a flaky power bar but it was able to be repaired and remounted without any loss of data. The SanDisk would not recover. So it seems that SSDs arent as robust with power loss as I had thought, or maybe the Mac Mini does something weird when it loses power which wreaks havoc on these SSDs. Regardless, they werent bulletproof. In the end, my solution was to install a UPS on my dads system to ensure that there would never be an ungraceful shutdown of the system. Heres hoping it works and his data all stays intact. So, yes Id recommend the product, but only for use on a laptop as it wont ever experience a sudden power loss like a desktop unit could.

Pros Absolutely tiny much smaller than I thought it would be and sooo much smaller than an external HDD of the same capacity. Also, unlike an HDD, it doesnt make a constant whirring noise. Very fast as well.

The SanDisk 500 GB Extreme Portable USB 3.1 TypeC External SSD is really small, which is the best for portability. What a great drive for a road trip, plenty of options size wise. Five hundred gab worked for me.The drive was quick and simple to load and can go with me anywhere.

If youre anything like me youve learned that SSD is the way to go on a PC, especially when it comes to PC games. Once youve used an SSD then you will never want to go back to a regular old mechanical hard drive. So the idea of installing internal SSD drives are likely something many of you have already done, much like myself. However, there comes a time when you really need a portable SSD drive on the go and that is where the Sandisk Extreme drive comes into play.Receiving this drive it looks a little larger than one would expect but it definitely seems very, very rugged and my guess is it would be able to withstand a good bit of playing rough by dropping it before there would be any sort of real issue. It just seems like it is a very tough case that it is in and offers me real peace of mind for taking it on the go on the occasion when I travel for work. The drive comes already formatted and setup and ready to go. All you do is plug it in and begin using it. If you dont have a USBC port there is an adapter included to use the old style USBC port but realize you are losing a lot of your speed. Once you get it up and going the only real software on it is Sandisk security for encrypting the drive contents, which I chose not to use since I have nothing of a confidential nature on my drive.Moving on to actual use now I am no professional video game player or content creator but one thing I do like to do is play PC games and stream, albeit just so that my friends can join in to see what Im playing. And this drive has done an amazing job in keeping up with streaming to the drive both in real time and for saving it for later use.Ive been using the drive on and off now for playing and streaming games and it seems like its super fast, Ive never noticed any slowdown in any regards and its been reliable as ever. I think this is a great drive for gamers and professional content creators and streamers, especially for those who are on the go at times and want something really rugged that can stand up to being moved alot. I applaud Sandisk for this product and happily give it a five star rating. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

No setup. Just plug it into a USB3 port and go. I used the typec port on the computer for the first time and was impressed with the data transfer rate. It included an adapter to allow use in a conventional USB3 port. Its silent huge capacity and very tiny. Great product.
JoeW –
I use it on my pc for extra game storage. Loading times are lightning fast compared to my internal 7200 HD. Connects with USB C and works just as well as any internal Sold State drive. The cord is very short, but its light enough where its safe dangling off the plug in the back.
Harrison –
Pros Very solid and well built design. An IP55 rating to show dust and water resistance is a nice benefit. The device is very portableabout the size of a pack of gum. This drive is FAST. Both read and write speeds are very quick. I was able to transfer a feature length movie in seconds when using a USB C port on each side. This drive was very easy to set up. All I had to do was plug it into my computer and it worked.Cons This drive did not work with my phone. According to my research it has to do with how much power the drive is able to pull from the USB port. So if you were looking to expand your phone storage, this is not the drive for you. The cord included with the drive is really short, which Ive found to be inconvenient.

This was not good for my use. I am a musician. I put a sound library on it. The drive constanty loses connection. I have to eject it and reconnect to access the music library.I would like to bring it back…over 200 spent.I have ran all the test. It is the drive vs. My new mac mini or cords.

The drive is so tiny that it can fit in your palm. Personally I do feel that it should have been heavy. As its so light that it feels like a toy. Psychology right amount of weight generates confidence. The front size is textured fees good and grippy. The back side is slippery. The front side texture should have been on the back as well. Performance wise yet to check the moment my laptop is delivered Ill check the performance

Much smaller than I expected its about half the length of a mobile phone. Connectivity is natively USB3 but a USB2 adapter is included which Ive used. Transfers are extremely fast, certainly compared to platterbased HDDs. Im using it as a Mac timemachine disk, and it works flawlessly, once reformatted. Its fast, silent and low power. Highly recommended.

I use this for my Xbox One currently that has all my game data and downloads onto it. Transferring my games onto it didnt take very long. Loading games was noticeably faster from this drive compared to the drive in the Xbox itself. This will make a perfect drive to use for the upcoming Xbox Series consoles for storing and playing older Xbox games on. Same goes for the PS5. The only trade off is the price. Its far more expensive per byte than your standard portable HDDs, but the speed is what makes all the difference. One final thing to note that I didnt know when I bought this This is a newer and faster model E61 than the previous version E60. The read and write are doubled. There is no other difference between them. Appearance is essentially the same.

I have been using the previous model with 500 gb to store my kids pictures and videos and needed more storage. This being 1tb was already an upgrade but I noticed that the transfer speed was also improved which was a plus. Moving the files from my laptop to the drive was very fast and left me impressed. The included usb c to usb A adapter was great because it allowed me to just plug it into my bluray player and watch the videos on my tv. The drive must be fast enough because I didnt have any issues with playing the videos. The drive is very sturdy as my teething toddler got a hold of it by accident and put a few small bite marks in it and it didnt affect it at all. Overall I am very impressed with it and would definitely recommend it. This has fast transfer speeds in a small size and the capacity is perfect.

Im going to keep this short and sweet unlike some of my more novellike reviews, because this one is easy The new SanDisk Extreme 1TB NVMe SSD is just about as perfect as you can ask for. It has all these things going for it1. Small and Light Easy portability. A smidge bigger and heavier than my 2018 SanDisk Extreme 500GB unit but not by much.2. Rugged While small and light, it has a solid feel to it. Much better than my 2018 unit. Continues to have the great rubberized coating, so it doesnt slip out of your hands, and outstanding dustmoisture resistance. That being said, I dont think Im going to be tossing my important files around, but nice to know I could.2. Speed More than twice as fast as my 2018 unit. Ive attached screenshots of the speed tests but in actual use it seems much faster. I did an entire Time Machine backup with this drive and it wrote the 487GB of photos, videos, and documents in about 24 minutes. I cant do a direct comparison with the 500GB unit since the whole reason I got this 1TB unit is because Id be pushing max density on the other drive. But even when it had less files I could go have lunch and come back and it would still be going before. Now that may have a little bit to do with macOS Big Sur finally supporting APFS but I still think it is much more attributable to the NVMe memory in this drive.3. Value I know this thing isnt cheap but for the speed, portability, and ruggedness, I consider this to be a great drive at a very good price.I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who needs a wicked fast external drive for their photo, video, or other critical files. You cant go wrong with the SanDisk Extreme 1TB NVMe drive.

Ive been stress testing this SSD for the last couple of days and while its to early to speak about long term reliability, I can say its handled everything I threw at it so far. I have been transferring over 100 GB of information at a time and its been done in around 23 minutes. Thats crazy fast and Im not used to that kind of performance.I have also used BlackMagic Disk Speed Test to see just how fast this drive is and through many tests the average readwrite speeds have been around 920mbps thats pretty fastThe other thing I want to point out, is just how small this ssd is Its sleek and small and can easily be put in your pocket for ultra portability.Sandisk claims it is dustshock proof as well as having an IP55 rating which hopefully I will never have to test out, because I dont plan on using this ssd around water, but its good to know The only con so far I can talk about is that when using this ssd with music production software, it has gotten pretty warm, almost on the hot side. This has happened especially when constant readwrite actions are being performed.Overall I think this SSD is awesome and Im excited to use it everyday.

I love it I have numerous high resolution photographs from the early 1900s and I wanted a backup to keep all of the original scans safe. My backup used to be on DVDs but those are not reliable. This external SSD drive is perfect. Im extremely happy with the speed. When it arrived it was much smaller than I expected but I like that. There is nothing I dont like about this SSD external drive. I would highly recommend it.
DeanT –
I got this as a faster solution for storing images and video on a laptop that were taken from a 61mp camera. I cant really tell if it is that much faster that my other external storage, but it handles Lightroom and Photoshop well. This is a very small drive and would be easy to misplace or lose, but that also makes it easy to take with you.
DanfromMI –
I use these SSD drives to store Lightroom catalogs of RAW photo files, so I dont completely fill up the storage on my laptop. The USBC interface is fast enough, and the readwrite times on the SSD itself are great. Unit gets a bit warm when under heavy use, but its not a problem. Its also nice that there are no moving parts to fail.

Ive used this SSD, while using a Blackmagic ATEM Mini Pro, to record several video productions. It has not disappointed I am able to easily access all my files camera ISOs included and transfer them with ease. Ive also transferred, a few small projects, from my laptop onto the Extreme SSD. Im very happy with the speed and reliability of it.
Leftie80126 –
Extreme is a great name for this It is so light I wasnt sure there was anything in the box.For a speed test I ran a copy from an internal SSD to a USB spinny disk and the SanDisk Extreme. I transferred approximately 750GB 10k files to each drive using the same port on my computer. The spinny drive took 22314 and the SanDisk Extreme took only 05734. Thats 60 faster

This product does all I want it to, which is to store videos. It has 465 Gigabytes of available space despite it saying 500 I assume that is because of the preinstalled software, it would have been nice if it said that in the description though. It has a really small stiff cord, but I find that useful because it can hang from my laptop without any issue. It also has an adapter for those like myself who dont have a USB Type C port. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase, but keep in mind that I only owned this for about 2 weeks at this point. I am unsure of its lifespan, but it comes with a 3 year warranty so Im not worried.

500MBs sequential reads and writes easily. It is a bit older and smaller model, but it was cheaper, and sufficient for my needs, and compared to newer models, it runs cooler under load.It only gets 500MBs, but that is a lot. After testing in my main computer, I use it with Raspberry Pi 4, as main system drive, where I can get 300MBs out of it.Internally it has WD Blue NVMe M.2 drive, and a small M.2 to USB adapter, that implements UAS USB Atached SCSI, but it also supports USB Storage Class, so you can boot from it, connect to older systems, etc. In fact this SanDisk drive is the same drive as the WD one, just in a different shell, and fancy hook.I didnt test it with Android, but I am sure it will work just perfectly. The only complain is the cable, or more the adapter. It comes with a nice TypeC to TypeC cable, short, black and flexible enough, high quality. But instead of also giving TypeA to TypeC cable, they included a small adapter instead, which fits into the provided cable, and it just doesnt insist confidence. If you use this drive often with TypeA ports, I recommend buying a separate short or long if you wish cable for that purpose. But still, the adapter works, it just doesnt feel very secure.I believe the Pro model and Portable 2, do have two separate cable, so check them out too, especially if you have computer with USB 3 Gen 2, as they can do 1GBsAh also, it comes formatted as exFAT, and there are some exe files for windows and manual on it. Not a big deal, and even could be nice, but just know it is there. You can remove them easily.

The SanDisk Extreme NVMe SSD has a small size and rugged construction perfect for taking it with you on the go, and fast speeds which make it great for any task you could reasonably throw at it. Backed by the longtrusted SanDisk and Western Digital brands, this unit is a worthy pick for those needing a decent external drive. Performance During my benchmarks connected to a laptop via USB 3.2 Gen 2 type C port using the included USBC cable, I maxed out at 978.72 MBs read speed and 940.03 MBs write speed with sequential 1MB chunks in CrystalDiskMark, reasonably close to the advertised maximum speeds. In practical file transfer tests between this and another NVMe SSD drive connected to the same computer via M.2 where the other drive benchmarks faster in all regards, I was getting about 700 MBs read speeds and 465 MBs write speeds consistently fromto the SanDisk drive. For stability testing, I recorded many hours of highresolution, highbandwidth gameplay videos directly to the drive which went very smoothly with no hiccups. Design The rubberized body feels very sturdy, and I suspect could endure some significant punishment while protecting the internals from harm. The IP55 rated dust and water resistance, while not amazing, provides enough protection against mishaps to confidently take the unit on the go. Theres no plugcap for the USB port on the drive, which detracts somewhat from its otherwise rugged design. The carabiner loop is a nice touch for some added utility. One of the most unfortunateand arguably bizarredesign choices is the incredibly short USBC cable included. While barely sufficient for plugging this drive into a laptop or other small device tablet, phone, camera, etc., plugging this drive into a PC with a tower case is almost certainly going to require a much longer cable to avoid unintentional disconnects. Theres no power or activity light, and while not necessarily unusual, it is a feature that some may miss.
David –
On my 2020 Mac Pro plugged into the Thunderbolt port it is clocking in at around 970 Mbps. A lot slower on my 2020 iPad Pro but that is to be expected. But I have noticed it prefers the included short cable. Any of my extension cables or other USB C cables either are slow or unable to connect the drive with the other device. This thing is small, great capacity and feels solid. Mac users will need to reformat the drive, no big deal I originally formatted it ExFat but seen where APFS could give a faster RW speed so I reformatted it to that. Mine is the 2TB Version 2 drive.

I ordered this SSD drive in order to setup a bootable macOS Catalina drive to be used on multiple Macs. I was successful with this endeavor and when I boot from this SSD drive the computer works just as quicklywell as when booted via the computers default SSD drives so it is fast and works well in other word. I have used this drive with both the USBC and traditional USB plug addon which attaches to the end of the USBC cable and it works great either way. The device is smaller than I had expected, and it does not appear to get too hot with regular usage or while initially installing the operating system etc.
IslandDad –
I love this SSD. First off, its smaller than it appears in pictures. I have a 7 in 1 Anker dongle that I use with my laptops and its about the same size. Also, its incredibly fast. This is my first external SSD and it was mind blowing the first time I used it. You can transfer 10GBs of photos and vides in a minute or two. My only word of advice is to select the speed you need. Theres an older 550 MBs version still out there and then theres the newer 1050 MBs and 2000 MBs. Dont get the 2000 MBs version unless you know for sure your machines ports can handle that speed.

I actually used this as an external storage for my PS4 pro but later on PS5 when I get it and the games somewhat load a bit smoother than when I was running off the main drive being an sshd. It comes with the USBC to USB adapter which I am using at the moment to connect Ill have no need for the adapter once I get the ps5.Regarding looks, it looks rugged and theres an eyelet or whatever it is to loop a hand strap.Overall is great small pocket sized storage without the bulk ness of previous external ssds in the 2.5 form factor. Highly recommended.
Curtis –
This Portable SSD Drive is much smaller than it looks in pictures, its about the size of a business card and its light. You can easily slip this into your pocket and not even notice it is there.I purchased this SSD to be able to use Adobe Lightroom on any of my PCs or Laptops. I love this option because I can keep my catalogs and pictures in synch without having to synch them over the web. Using this methodology has also significantly sped up Lightroom because Im accessing the catalog and pictures from the SSD drive instead of the internal mechanical hard drive at 7200 RPM. The speed improvement is significant.I love this little SSD drive and highly recommend this for any photographers especially for those using Lightroom
HappyAppleBuyer –
After checking on the ratings for this drive, I bought one at Best Buy. It proves to be even better than I expected. It is really fast 1050 MBs. I wanted an external drive for my new Apple M1, that was as good as Apples internal drive and SanDisk has come through with this little beauty. It is also extremely durable. When working it hard it does not get very hot and it is small enough to tuck behind the Apple 24 stand. It seems to work flawlessly with the new M1 chip. It is exactly what I needed to expand disk space without paying a fortune for it.

This device is very small well made and comes with a short USB C cable and an adapter that converts one end of the cable to USB A. I found the device to be really slow because it was formatted to exFAT format. After I reformatted the drive to NTFS the device is very fast and you will not be disappointed in its performance. This device is worth purchasing. The device comes with software but I did not use.

I use this with iPad Pro 11 Gen 1, and 1st Gen 12.9 and it works fabulously for moving files for video editing. Its super fast and so compact yet rugged. Highly recommend I personally will be purchasing at least one more in 1Tb.The back side is a rubbery silicone feel and it does collect little fuzzies, but they wipe right off.The bottom has a usbc port. It comes with the shortest usbC to usbC cord.

Need some fast storage on the go No problem, SanDisk has you covered This 1TB NVME SSD is the real deal with 940mbps read and write speeds Best thing about it is it wont overheat on you either. This drive works perfectly and comes in a very small footprint that allows you to take it practically anywhere.Performance wise, this thing obliterates conventional portable HDDs. Was able to transfer over 20GB in a fraction of the time it would take on a 5400rpm HDD took 40 seconds on this NVME vs 5 minutes on HDD. Its literally plug and play on WindowsMacOS though some formatting may be involved depending on the OS. Playing games off of this thing is actually quite good, ive not ran into any issues with installing Fortnite or Apex on here and playing not very surprising considering the speed this drive offers. If using this little drive on the PS4 Pro, it does quite an amazing job as well. Ive noticed considerable improvements over my portable 1TB HDD which would yield long loading times. One thing to note, i have a 1TB SATA3 SSD in my PS4 Pro and because the PS4 Pro does not have USB 3.2, it limits the full potential of the read and write speeds this NVME SSD provides but nonetheless it is still a huge upgrade compared to HDDs.If you are looking for a portable drive and you need speed, i cannot recommend this drive enough It is simply the best and most portable option out there

I have purchased this series of SanDisk black with red ring and they are fabulously fast reliable external storage. Reliability is so keyTypically, I have purchased 2TB but for this application I only needed 500 GB. No moving parts, small and so reliable.
JimC –
I use the product in a music application for storing a virtual instrument catalog. It could be the cord that come with it, but i experince a data disconnect often. This requires me to eject the hard drive and reconnect it.I appreciate the portability of the SSD. I hope to resolve this. I purchased 2 of them. One is a 2 tarabyte and a 500 GB. It is just the 2 tarabyte drive that is an issue.

So far so good. 425 MBs Read and 400 MBs write using USB 3.0 connection Macbook Pro 2015. Would probably be faster with USBC port on newer machines. Using mine for media scratch disk for FCPX and lightroom. Nice form factor and build quality… also includes cable adapter for USBA and USBC. Reformatted first for Mac using disk utility, still retained 999 GB out of 1TB, so minimal storage loss.

As long as you have USB TypeA USB 3.1 USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports the drives are blazingly fast. I bought two for video editing. I store the footage on one drive and use the other drive to render to. The OS and software are on an internal SSD hard drive, making the whole process super fast.
Noapplebutorange –
Fast and portable. Along with a nice loop for a carabiner or some paracord, it can easily be mounted on a pack for portability. It has a nice finish that seems to make it slip resistant in case your hands are wet when handling it. I would choose this over other brands that have similar specs being constantly outdoors and traveling I find it very convenient to have something this portables

This is a great, compact, fast little drive that I can take anywhere. Ive even edited a 3 minute wedding video on Premiere Pro, working straight off of this drive, which was pretty greatMy only frustration with it is that it disconnects very easily sometimes when I slightly bump it. And then when I try and connect it again immediately afterwards, it has trouble mounting back up onto my computer. Sometimes Ill have to restart my computer for it to mount back up again. Maybe its a problem with the short cable that comes with it, I dont know. But this issue can definitely be a frustration when Im trying to get work done.Other than that little issue, this is a great drive and I can see myself buying another one in the future if it goes on sale again.
Johnnie –
Just got this thing and connected it to my 2019 16 MacBook Pro with no problem. I then tested it by transferring 110GB to it to see how long it would take. And to my surprise, it was done in 2min and 45secs This same transfer with my 7200rpm g drive takes over 24mins This little drive is blazing fast. Definitely surpassed my expectations.

Ive been using Sandisk SSDs for about four years, starting with the 500 GB square ones the previous design. Pricier than disk drives obviously but I hate worrying that a disk drive will suffer mechanical failure. The Sandisk SSDs have been super reliable I have five of them now, in various storage sizes and I have never observed the smallest glitch. Blazing fast too. The new design is brilliant, smaller than Id expected. You cant go wrong. The only question is whether to wait for the prices to drop because they keep getting cheaper.
Richard –
Pros Reasonable price.Cons Had to reformat to reduce the file allocation size since the preset size it came with made it use 3 times the space for my files compared to a HDD. I had a lot of small files and I changed the file allocation size to 4096 bytes and that solved the issue. I also changed the system to NTFS rather than the exFAT system it came with.I am using a USB 3.0 port and I was disappointed that the speed to download files onto the SSD was no better than a HDD I used before. I expected much faster speeds. Maybe a USB 3.1type C port would be much faster but I dont have one.

SanDisk Extreme 1TB external USB Type CI am using this drive to offload files from my notebook computers SSD that never seems to have enough room. Connected via USBC, the speed is indistinguishable from the internal drive. Installation in Windows 10 was plugandplay simple. It just works.Im now running my proprietary work software from it which, among other things, captures audio streams PCM at 48,000 Hz, 346 MBhr, and its worked flawlessly storing up to 3 GB per day. Transfers to archival storage are handled efficiently and without incident.Ive been so impressed with the drives performance, I bought the 2TB version and connected it to my Xbox One X. The included USB Type A converter works perfectly. Apparently, this drive is faster than the X1Xs internal drive, by a lot. I didnt have the presence of mind to specifically note load times before I moved everything off the internal drive to the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, but its noticeably faster. Ive spent a good amount of time with The Outer Worlds recently, and the load times are a fraction of what they were I no longer have time to go get a drink from the fridge downstairs while waiting between levels. Borderlands 3 load times are now almost negligible. If capacity and speed are what you need, buy this drive. You wont be disappointed
IsThatEazy –
Used this on my old 13 MacBook pro 2015 model. I was able to download about 700gb in 20 mins. Its truly amazing. Also the body of the extreme is very durable yet compact which is a nice feature imo. I have yet to try the Samsung T7 but I hear it may be faster. This purchase was great as you can use it on your PlayStation 5 if need be.

I am a bit of a data backup junkie. I have been using a variety of desktop and portable hard drives for years and am never without a flash drive in my pocket. Another thing I dont like to do is pay a ridiculous markup for additional storage on my mobile devices. This handy device solves both issues for my elegantly. With a smaller footprint and more rugged than traditional portable hard drives, this drive is super easy to pop in the pocket when going out the door. I often use a tablet as a displaycontroller when shooting with a tripod mounted camera and with this drive I can create a local backup or completely offload the images and videos as I go without the need for an internet connection, a nice feature when photographing outdoors. This drive has made it very simple and faster than cloud based solutions when moving data between my PC, android tablet, and Chromebook laptop. Where it really shines for me is the ability to use it with my android tablet, which I could not do with my old portable HDD.I tested the drives speed against a portable HDD I have been using for a year or two with my laptop. I transferred a 21 gb photo and video file from my PC to each and the Sandisk SSD was about a minute faster. Not huge. However, on the other side, reading files especially the videos was noticeably faster on the Sandisk, with HD videos loading and playing right from the drive with no jitter at all.The design feels light but solid and it has a nice non slip coating on the back. I doubt I would ever clip it onto a pack or anything with the built in hole in one corner, but it speaks to the intent that this would be a goeverywhere device. It says that it is dust proof and water resistant, but there is no integral plug or cover for the USBC port which would seal up the internals nice a tight. If I were to take it into an environment where I might be expecting extra dusty or wet conditions were a possibility I would try to cover this exposed area.Al in all I am very happy with this drive as a really handy way to lug around a lot of data in a relatively rugged package, and its already been quite useful to me.

Love this thing. Put on the security so no one can get into my files. Lol. Superfast transfers. I use type c for transfers so its really fast. Feels really good. The quality is great and comes with a clip for attaching to backpack or keys. Super slim and doesnt take up much space at all.Bonus with buying it on sale.

Its interesting what can happen when you dont visit a particular technology for a few years. External Solid State Drives have come a long way in a short period of time. I am so impressed by this drive it made me think about the first external hard drive I ever bought some 30 plus years ago. If my math is right it usually is this drive is apprx 1150th the size, has 100,000 times the storage capacity and about 13 the price lol. But enough with the trip down memory lane.I love this drive. Its small, fast, feels well built, quiet and priced right. Its amazing. Im using it to build a library of my favorite movies. I may get a 2nd one just to use as a backup to all my files. I usually like to say a little more when I leave a review but what more is there to say This drive is absolutely fantastic. I would give it 6 stars if I could and I would absolutely recommend it to a friend.

I have used this for a couple of weeks and find it provides excellent storage capacity in such a small package. Ive not been able to take full advantage of its speed capabilities since I do not have a TypeC connector on my laptop. It does, however, work with the TypeA adapter. The laptop used is several years old and the typeA 3.0 connectors have never given me much more than 2.0 speeds, so I wasnt surprised at the 2.0 speed when using the adapter. Looking forward to a newer computer with a TypeC port.
Davidmc2013 –
Wonderful little drive. Its smaller than an iPhone, so it fits really well in your pocket or bag. You can tell its quality made. I also love that it comes with a USBCUSBA adapter for the cord so it can be used across multiple devices easily.
JenfW –
This portable hard drive was smaller than I expected. That is not a bad thing, it makes it easier to carry around when you know you will need it. I am using it to back up all my things from my phone. Pictures mostly. It has plenty of room and cleans up my phone so I can add more.

This is great and exactly what I needed for my weekend photography outings. Ive been overloading my phone lately copying my RAW files to my phone for a little editing and this is perfect for off loading my phone halfway through the day just to clean things up a bit. Getting cold here and dont really want to be lugging my laptop around all the time. Using my phone as a go between is working fine. Love having all this extra storage space now.Transfer speeds are fantastic although I never maxed out the specs. I moved a 60GB folder of RAW and JPG files from my PC to it in about 6 minutes but I was forced to use the USBA adapter so I was limited by that. The real speeds show up when using the USBC direct with 3.2 specs.Looks and feels pretty rugged and a great size to just throw in your pocket whenever youre heading out.
Eric –
You definitely pay more for a solidstatedrive, but the speed is worth it if you can afford it. I utilize an SSD to hold and transfer large video files. I edited quite a few videos on my computer directly from this drive. Its very small in the form factor. The one thing I would change is that the USB cable had an adapter on it to use on your standard USB 2.03.0 connection on your Mac. This can come off when you unplug your SSD from your computer and when you get to the next place you find that you just have the USB cable to the micro or mini USB since you are missing the connector. Just a minor thing.

SanDisk Extreme SSD drive had me at 550mb read write. Thats extremely fast for editing video and photos, which I do a lot of. This SSD drive connects fast to my Mac and files are copied to it from my Mac really fast. I use Final Cut a lot and scrubbing video is super fast. Because this drive write and reads fast it allows fast rendering.

This is my 3rd Sandisk Extreme. My second unreliable one.I deeply wish I could recommend this.My first model of the slower model of these was great for the first year. Now its unreliable as well.My first Sandisk Extreme was not the pro model but I edited from it nearly every day. It was the 500gb model and I lost the cord nearly right away.I replaced the cord with an amazon basics USB C cord and it worked great for over a yearThen I needed to upgrade space since I was becoming more pro.I got the 2TB version of the nonpro model.I was doing a MASSIVE project, filling most of the drive in one go, and the drive kept interrupting the transfer. It was lightning fast for about 3gbs of data and then would abort the transfer.I pegged it for overheating, so I used the slower cord of Amazon basics and it actually helped, but still aborted transfer. So I transferred it for the pro model, paying the extra cost for the increased reliability.Nope.2 months in and this drive is now not being read by our computer. We are putting WEDDINGS on this drive, events that will never be recreated again. Im very lucky we have multiple backups, this unreliability is unacceptable for the pro drive. And the drive is unreadableIt was doing great for the first 2 months, but for as expensive as this is, it had better be reliable for years, especially considering the pro moniker.Idk, I still have Sandisk SD cards, but I have since started using the Samsung T7 drives and have had ZERO issues with them for DAILY PROFESSIONAL USE.So Eff these drives, I want my money back.Go Samsung for your hard drives as far as Im concerned.

Let me preface this by saying that I only buy SanDisk SD cards for my cameras Sony Nikon because of their legendary reliability. Since Ive never had an issue with any SanDisk products that I purchased in the past, I decided to buy this external MVMe type SSD. I have a fiveyearold iMac with a 1TB Fusion internal HD and it was getting sluggish at times the spinning beach ball popping up constantly and stopping me in my tracks. After attaching the SanDisk SSD to a USB 3.0 port, reformatting and installing macOS Big Sur, I migrated all my software to the new SSD and made it my startup drive. What a difference This SanDisk SSD is blazing fast and everything loads and runs so much quicker now. Spinning beach balls have virtually disappeared and its almost like I have a new iMac on my desk Highly reccomended.

Purchased the Sandisk Extreme Portable 1TB External to transfer RAW photo files from 2019 MacBook Pro 16 to 2020 iMac 27. Phenomenal Speed is incredible on both upload to drive and download from drive. Very small, about 2×4, and durable. Rubberized backing prevents drive from sliding on desktop. Couldnt be more satisfied.

Love these SSD portable drives. This 2TB holds 1000s of high resolution images. Transfers between my mac and pc wish I could not do the my WD My Passport external drives. But to get great power comes with a great cost…60 verses 300. But for what I do it was worth the additional cost.

If youre looking for a fast and convenient storage option, look no further. This is portable SSD is extremely fast. I was able to copy over 8gb of videos and photos from my internal SSD on my laptop to the SanDisk drive in under 20 seconds. I was very impressed with how quickly I was able to transfer the media. Ill be using this to transfer large files between my home and work. Its a nice sized drive too, slightly smaller than a credit card in width and height, and just slightly thicker than a usb plug. It also has a nice softtouch on one side, and a textured side with the SanDisk logo. The drive itself has just a single port, which is thankfully a USB C. An adapter cable is included to go from USB C to A as well.Overall, this is a fast performaning, small and extraportable drive.

The San Disc has been fast with my Surface Pro 4 but the short connection wire was too short. I made sure a I got a longer fast cable and Im good to go. I put together a lot of family videos and jpegs. The transfer speeds for the video has been so much better than the external hhd I use to use. I set it up to transfer and it seems to think for a few seconds then the video transfers in seconds. Jpegs go so fast I have to double check that it worked. Was easy to find a a good price too.

Incredibly smaller and lighter than I imagined when ordering, and realized when I took it out of the box. What I learned is that I needed to reformat to FAT 32 to be able to use it in a backup configuration with security camera systems HDs. Thus cant use all the features delivered i.e. encryption software. Also wish the security camera systems were SSDs, it would make the backup time much faster

Super fast SSD drive. Very compact as well. Fits perfectly in any bag or even your pocket. Ive only used it for a few weeks but it seems durable. Its a bit it on the pricey side, especially compared to other drives with as much capacity but other than that no complaints. Glad I purchased it.
MajorPaine –
This is going tor replace all my other drives. Casing made of high quality gripping around the hard drive feels solidly built. Im getting close to 1GBs transfer speeds through a USB hub. Works well across my Mac and windows laptops, and its super light and small. But when compared with others, its 2X the cost for similar storage. I dont know if its worth the price. The real test is the durability which is an unknown.
BruteFarce –
Bought this to use as external storage of PS4 games on my PS5. The only thing keeping it from 5Stars is the cable it comes with is woefully short for this purpose. I keep my PS5 horizontal so its not too much trouble but I had to order a longer cable. If I kept my PS5 vertical this drive would just be hanging in space.

SanDisk is a name you can trust for a quality and reliable product. Installation was quick and easy. You have the option of creating a passcode to lock your device but if you lose your passcode, there is no retrieval process. Transferring files between devices is a breeze. It does get a little toasty but not extremely hot. The size and build is perfect for travels and on the go. Its great to have extra storage when you need it. Highly recommended this product.

Very fast and sleek SSD. I love that it comes with USBC and USBA type connections so you can connect to any computer.Speeds are fast and the waterproof functionality was big as I want to protect my data. I was between this and a few others, I do not regret my purchase at all.

This is the second one Ive purchased. Not because I had trouble with the first one but because I liked them so much. The first one is connected to an ATEM at church to record the services. Bought this one for personal use to use with my iPad Air. This is so portable and lite it just slips right in the pocket of my Ruggard iPad carry case with the apple pencil and hub.

First, the Sandisk portable hard drive was reasonably priced. After price shopping and reading reviews I think I got a good deal. The unit itself is of good quality. It looks and handles nicely. Operating it was very easy, just plug and play. One issue, though, the one doc included with the package referenced having to go online for instructions. After too much time online and failing to find any further guidance I had to leave a message for Sandisk to contact me. They finally notified me that the unit had no operating manual and was, in fact, plug and play. Some indication in the package of that would have been nice.

We absolutely love this little drive. Its very small and very powerful Weve been using it to edit photos while plugged into our laptop and its so fast compared to a standard HDD. Love the portability and will be getting more of these in the future

I have been reading and so I followed what the others did when they bought this. This item needs to be reformatted to NTFS for large number of small files to make it work good. This item comes in ExFAT format and I tried to copy one of my 16GB folders, At first it would not copy my files but once I reformatted to NTFS, I was able to copy all my files 150GB onto the Sandisk 1TB drive without any problems. It was pretty FAST.

This is a wonderful portable solution for storage. Its small enough to easily fit in your pocket, barely larger than a credit card and just under half an inch thick. This is easily the fastest portable drive I have ever used as well so if you have need to move large amounts of data between computers quickly and on the go this is the drive for you. I also tested it as an external drive for my Xbox One X and Xbox Series X in moving games between the consoles and it performed perfectly. For the price you wont find a better portable storage solution.

I am very impressed with this external SSD. When I read that it was NVMe NonVolatile Memory Express, I knew transfer speeds would be very good, but how NVMe drives are usually reserved for PCs with an M.2 slot on a motherboard, and that translates to extreme speeds. Turns out that when you pair an NMVe with the latest USB3.2 gen 2 standard, its not a bad combinationJust to get the nerdy stuff out of the way, USB3.2 gen 2 is rated for 10Gbps, which translates to around 1000MBs. That has got to be the fastest thing Ive ever had the pleasure of using out of an external drive. To give you context, you can move a 20 gigabyte file to and fro in 20 seconds There are some caveatsThe host that youre connecting to must support USB3.2 gen 2 as well. Typically USB TypeC is associated with these speeds, but some hosts will only support USB3.1, which will not get you those top speeds. Perfect examples of this are my test cases a Samsung Galaxy Chromebook, a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, and a custom PC. Each device was able to easily detect and use the Sandisk Extreme. The Chromebook supports USB3.2 with a USBC port, and I was able to see file transfers go balls to the walls. The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, although a USBC port, only supported USB3.1 and I was getting half the speeds. Finally, my custom PC did not have a USBC port, so I had to use the included adapter to USBA in order to connect. Moving to USBA obviously brought the speeds down to USB3.1 specs.I know SanDisk makes a nonNVMe variant of the Extreme and pricing could possibly be lower, so its really up to you to either figure out what devices you currently have and if they support the latest USB3.2 gen 2 standard and go from there. You can also approach this from a futureproofing standpoint in the event that you end up buying new hardware that can achieve those transfer speeds. The drive itself is on the compact side with a rubbery back and a textured front, and the unit feels very solid to me. It has a loop to allow you to hook to carabiner or a safety tether, but you can get creative with it. SanDisk claims some level of water and dust resistance, and thats actually a very great feature to have if youre out and about. I think SanDisk hit it out of the park with this allinwonder of an external drive for the speeds and the tech that we can attain today.

Worked OK for a few hours. Then randomly dropped connection from my laptop, although all cables etc were still properly connectedThis kept happening randomly. Google search showed this is a recurring problem with this particular product.I returned it to Best Buy and bought a similar Samsung product instead

I saved all my images to an external hard drive … and back up my images to another external hard drive … even when traveling. My experience with less expensive external hard drive that have moving parts is … it is just a matter of time before you drop it or something else happens to it … and it just stops working. I switched to the SSD external hard drives … and so far … I am very impressed. They are much smaller … great for travel … and since they do not have moving parts … more durable … especially for travel. The only negative is … they are much more expensive.

Ideal storage for working onthego, or storing images during an outdoor photo session. Rugged, weatherized case extremely fast data transfer speeds. An expensive drive but you wont have buyers remorse once you see how well it works. Definitely a quality device from a quality manufacturer.

The shipping was quick, the size is about that of a credit card. It doesnt seem to require a powered hub to work with a raspberry PI at least PI 4 anyways. The PI4 also has a USB3.0 512GB flash drive attached to it to give you an idea of how little power this thing uses. Anyways, I might opt for the 1TB version at some point so I have much more drive space for the PI. Might use that to make a NAS. So yea, its a good product, it got here ontime as well.

I would recommend.Very FAST and it works seamless with the new M1 Mac mini. I bought it to be used for Time Machine and a Backup drive partitioned in XFAT, 5050 split. At the 1050 Mbs, you dont even realize there is a backup going on. I transferred a bunch of picsvideo from my old computer to this SSD and it is all so fast, no more waiting and waiting to complete the file transfers.

This solidstate drive is extremely lightweight and ultra fast for read and write speeds. For those on the move who like to have their storage at hand and easily accessible the lanyard clip cutout allows you to do just thatKeep an eye out for sales as I got mine for almost 100 off Which really helps justify the storage space for the price

The SanDisk Extreme 1TB portable SSD is an excellent external drive solution. Whether you are backing up media files, accessing files on your usbc equipped phone or tablet, or are wanting an external drive for your XBOX One, the SanDisk Extreme is very easy to recommend. On Windows and Mac, the drive is plug and play. The included cable has a USBC to USBA adapter. I would make sure to use it on a USB3 port, though.I created transfer tests on multiple computers shuffling around 10GB files. Compared to external hard drives that rely on 5400 RPM physical disks, the NVME portable produces unmatched results. You can copy huge files to and from the drive in a matter of seconds. In my experience, data would transfer three times as fast as the more traditional external drive. The device feels solid. It has a rubber grip to it and its tiny. Unlike backup drives with older, platter based drives, this device is smaller and less prone to losing data in the event of bumps or drops. With this drive, you can place movies, music, or files and then access them from your Samsung Android tablet. I could watch movies on my phone from the SSD. And because the drive is relatively small, I could easily slip this in a travel bag for commutes. Whether you are browsing photos or editing documents on the go, the Extreme 1TB drive is simple and easy to use.I tested the drive on an XBOX One. Newer games require faster transfer rates and the traditional external hard drives often dont keep up which can lead to texture popins or stuttering cinematics. I didnt have any such problems with the 1TB Extreme. Games loaded in fast. Now, you currently cant use an external hard drive for XBox One Series X games, but for XBOX One or Xbox 360 games, this hard drive is super fast.If I had any complaint, it might be worth while to invest in a longer USB 3.2 cable with a USBC connector. The cable that comes with the drive is just a couple of inches. Its very short.I would take a 1TB drive with this speed and durability over a standard external drive for traveling and performance needs, but if youre wanting to backup your computer or archive photos, an older drive that isnt as fast might realistically be a more economical solution. Thats the tradeoff you have to weigh, but outside of those scenarios, I think this drive is a clear winner. It isnt much bigger than a thumb drive. Its faster and wont take up as much space in my bag.I really like this drive, and I whole heartedly recommend it.

Perfect. Compact. Powerful and fast. Served the purpose I need it for and pretty rugged to take a fall. Works extremely well with my 2020 MacBook Pro to offload some hard drive storage.

The 2 TB SSD SanDisk Extreme Portable USB 3.1 is just that, EXTREMELY Portable It fits in the palm of your hand, fits in my front pocket and handles 4K editing on my MacBook Pro with ease. This is designed for the person who is on the go and wants to stay light in their travels. Or people who just want to keep a minimal desk space with less clutter of tech gadgets. I recommend this product to anyone who appreciates simplicity, performance and quality.

This external SSD is a musthave Its easy to use and super fast to transferretrieve pictures and videos within seconds. I had an old external hard drive and it took forever to backuptransfer data. Also, you dont have to worry about losing your data since there are mechanical parts. Plus, it comes with a USBC cable and a USBC to USBA adaptor.
ejdbroker –
Its a drive. Its a fast drive. Its all good.It has a USB C cord with a converter for the USB youre probably used to. The cord itself is only 3 inches and not very flexible, so your drive basically sticks out of the computer. Thats a bit awkward, especially if youre using it on a laptop. Can always get a different USB cable though….
Metatron –
Using on my PS5 for all my PS4 games, leaves console storage open for PS5 installs. PS5 recognized and formatted easily. Games copied quickly via the usbc connection. No lag or noticeable difference during game play.As of now Sony does not allow external devices for install of PS5 games

This is quite simply a great compact, lightweight USB Type C SSD. to have more capacity for all of my android modding files. This SSD has no power plugwall wort. this drive is excellent for an android enthusiast like myself. works seamlessly on Oxygen OS and in TWRP. i was surprised at the IRL size being as small as it is, but it is perfect for my functions. super lightweight. as other reviewers have mentioned, the rubberized back does pick up lintdebris from your pocket, but i plan to grab an extra sopiguard skin and cut it to fit this drive to avoid that. the usb type A adapter leaves something to be desired for me, but its nice that it and the cable are included. saves me having to reach for one of my OnePlus cables. I bought the 500gb variant from Focus Camera on Walmart.com and my singular complaint is this item showing 2day shipping and after i purchased it on Jan 1st, it taking until Jan 6th to get to me. However, at the time, the largest one at my local stores was a 256gb for like 10 less, so it was worth it to roll the dice on a vendor. The device itself is amazing and goes above and beyond my expectations. Kudos to Sandisk for this amazing piece of tech.
JKhan –
A bit taller and thinner than a Zippo, this is a great little drive. When on the go, the smallest drive I previously had was a WD Element drive which was convenient, fast, but still fragile. Being a solid state drive and rugged, this is the next gradual step up. In the pocket it goes the only wish list feature would have been a retractable USBC plug on the actual device. As of now, a small cord is needed and supplied with a USBA adapter for backwards compatibility. As for speed, its as expected…FAST. My best test was transferring 21GB in just about a minute with very few dips in Mbps. Very satisfied.
Eddie –
Crazy fast drive. Using this off a USB C port on a laptopThis drive has a m.2 WD Blue inside. It looks like the cap speed is about 615MBS. It will slow down some when copying tons of small files. I do play games off this drive. Tom Clancys Breakpoint, Black Desert Online, World of Tanks I see no performance diff from the SATA ssd I was using before.
RustyKnight720 –
Bought this to exclusively use as external SSD for my PS5. After formatting it, have to say everything works as intended, fast speeds and really compact. Barely even notice it is there because of how small it is. If you are looking for a fast and compact SSD this does the job. Keep in mind only PS4 games can be stored in external SSD for the PS5. As of now it is on sale so hurry.
David –
Pros Its tiny and super light. I have it plugged in all the time as a second drive and the transfers speeds are great.I cant put any negatives, only that I was I got the bigger 1TB but the 500GB is great value and thats my fault not the product. Def recommend thisCons None try for the 1TB if you can as its spot on. Its so easy and quick to use I filled my 500GB version very quickly
Keith –
Pros Light and portable inobtrusive which is just what I wanted the download and upload speed again is what I expected and have not been diaappointed.Cons When ordering I got he impression that I needed to order a separate connection canle from standard usb to mini usb when in fact when the drive arroved it arrived with an adaptor to do just that so I wasted 10 on a separate cable I did not need. Not good enough detail in the product information.

So in the few days Ive had with the drive and testing it, I have to say, for an external solution, its a joy to use. Its also very small, its really not all that much bigger than the USB 3.0 SanDisk Extreme drive I have pictured. For sake of longevity I havent written too much data to the drive, though Ive used some software to test it.Your results are going to vary quite a bit depending on the cable youre using to connect to the drive. The included cable, which I wish was much much longer, its only about 4 or 5 inches in length will allow you to use the drive to its maximum cabability. In the images Ive attached to this review, two of them are using the provided cable. The ones with over 900MBs Read and Writes are with this cable through a Gen 3.1 Type C port on the back of my motherboard. I was also able to replicate the performance on another HP computer with a TypeC on the front panel. For using the included USB 3.0 to TypeC adapter, you can expect a maximum of 450460MBs. This is due to the limitation of the USB 3.0 ports. When using TypeC to TypeC 3.13.2 cables you can easily get close to the rated speed of the drive. I didnt ever get 1050MBs but I got fairly close with the 980MBs in the screenshots.I used CrystalDiskMark with a write size of 64MB and also used ATTO Disk with a 64MB write test as well. The ATTO test was with the adapter, as was the slower CrystalDiskMark test.If youre looking for an excellent fast option for external storage at a good size for a not so crazy price, this is an excellent option. The particular drive that was used at least in my unit was a Western Digital Blue SN550 drive. In the desktop NVME variants these drives are capable of hitting as much as 2200MBs. The drive itself is of very good quality and carries that reliability that Western Digital is known for. This would work well for just needing a large drive to install programs or games on, or even for keeping media on if you need to take it on the go.definite reccommend for large, fast portable storage.

Bought this for daily backups of my laptops disk. Love the small form factor and the speed. The light weight allows me to just let it dangle off the USB cable while plugged in. I have a pro version, too, with a metal body that does get hot. Thus, if heat generated is similar, and the pro dissipates heat better, this ones heat still has to go somewhere … So, I expected some heat issues. However, none so far not even throttling AFAICT.
Sitwon –
Fits a LOT of data into a tiny, convenient package. Smaller than a pack of playing cards. Its a little more expensive than buying the flash and a generic enclosure separately, but this enclosure is nicely sealed anecdotally, it withstood some spilled water and has a convenient loop for clipping to a bag.I just wish there was a designated spot for a label. The texture of the enclosure feels nice in the hand, but stickers dont adhere too well.
John –
Finally the price for reasonable sized SSD drives has come down enough to make them realistic. This one is beautiful, appears to be fairly rugged and is much smaller than I expected. Speed seems great, too soon to comment on durability, but this is just what Ive been looking for. Perfect so far to hold my travel library. Will probably pick up a second one for backup. Get a Fromsky case for it well padded, complimentary color and a perfect fit.
Maureen –
Pros its smallCons An important piece of work I saved it in 3 different places this product, a Sandisk usb stick and google drive. All the Sandisk products failed which left me with google drive and that was ok. I am now rushing to copy it to a few more places in another attempt to be safe.
David –
Pros I like how this can be used interchangeably between Apple or Windows rather than being set to one specific format. It writes and reads quickly. The unit is nice looking and practical but the cable is a bit short. The connections are firm so it works ok hanging from my Windows computer or rests on the table when I use my AppleMac.Cons Longer cable might be better. Connection to iPads would be good.
DIYguy94 –
Im writing this review because I purchased this to get more storage on my PS5, let me start off by saying I can only transfer digitally downloaded games.. this is really annoying.. however the product is good Im sure if you use it for its intended purpose but very pricey Im not slandering the product. It just doesnt work like I thought it would and Best Buy only allows 14 days to return…. probably due to the Rona like every other companies excuse Lame
JoeP –
Four stars because it has only been in use for a month, so I have no sense of how reliable SSD will turn out to be compared to rotating media. Reliability is my most important criterion. If a drive fails and you lose data, it doesnt matter how fast, compact or pretty it was,I am using this SSD as the principal data storage on a new desktop so it gets a workout. Using external data storage is the best way Ive found to get back in business after a hardware failure.I will probably buy another SanDisk SSD to replace my current backup external harddrive as soon as I am comfortable with its reliability.
jkfrenchtx –
This is a nice product. Only complaint is that the cluster size is so large on the default formatting of it that if you put a lot of small files on it, it wont hold near as much as it couldshould. Reformatting to NTFS or other compatible format with a smaller cluster size allocation unit size with Windows Format takes care of the problem and it still works well. Example I moved a Train Simulator that had a lot of addons with small files and it took well over 700GB but on my hard drive it was just over 200GB … literally tripled the space used on the SSD drive vs space used on the hard drive … after moving everything back to the hard drive, reformatting the SSD with the smallest cluster size available and moving it all back to the SSD drive again, it was back down to the hard drive equivalent in space used. If you store a bunch of large videos on the SSD drive, the default format will likely be fine. Otherwise, you might consider reformatting before using.

These drives are wonderful in size and use. They allow me to take backup with me when I travel for all my photos with a minimum of size and weight. I also like their size and convenience for home use. It goes with out say that as solid state drives they have good speed and reliability also they are not delicate.
Prosper –
This is obviously not the best drive ever. But you are definitely getting good value if you pick this thing up on sale like I did. I wanted to transfer some games from my laptop to this drive so while I was doing it, one of my favorite games failed to transfer correctly so I had to delete it. Sucked a lot but everything else is working fine. I also am unable to transfer any game pass games from my pc to this drive. Its weird cos I looked up online guides but its still not working. Other than that its a solid drive. The size also surprised me.
Someguy –
So I bought this specifically to run backwards compatible PS4 games on my PS5. And through the USB C port, it is incredibly fast. Load times are nearly as fast as the PS5s internal SSD. Resource and asset loadingtexture streaming is a huge improvement over an external HDD. Highly recommended.
CBBiscuits –
Bought this as a onthego content storage drive that I could edit off of. Unfortunately the drive heats up and runs extremely slow. I have some My Passport SSD from WD and they work seamlessly. Was very disappointed in the performance of this drive. Fine for storage but dont plan on using it as a quick access drive.
Groovybrian –
I picked up two of these. One for the PS5, using the USBC port, and the other for a PS4 Pro. This is a fast drive. Its about 6 times faster than the internal drive on the PS4 Pro. On the PS5, I have all my PS4 games stored on this. They load so much faster than when I played the same games on the PS4.This is twice as fast than most standard SSDs. There are some faster models too, but I figured that I didnt need to spend the extra for just PS4 games. I did get it during a Black Friday sale, so it was about 100 off at the time.
Aldridge –
This is very fast. I use it mainly as work space when working on Lightroom. It also keeps the catalog. Im a computer consultant working on big mainframes I specialize in performance analysis. I realized that I needed a fast workspace to get the data from storage to the CPU and back and since this is an SSD it would even be faster on top of the transfer rate. This would extend the life of my Mac Pro 2015. It has been working great, speed up my work. I have a 5D MKIII so the files are large and sometimes going into Photoshop concurrently has helped. This is great for moving around also when I need to go somewhere to do work.

Okay so I bought this ssd because I wanted extra storage on my Playstation 5. I purchased the 2 TB one and its speeds run so well. Loads games super quickly and runs games very well as if it was being loaded on from the main ssd. Honestly thinking about upgrading to the 4 TB ssd. Its extremely durable as I did some stress test on it from kicking it around to moving large files to and from ssd to ssd. The speeds for 200 gb files was around 35 minutes for the ps5 to do keep in mind this was about 6 games. So it moved everything.

love the sandisk portable ssds i have the samsung t5, the g drive ssd, and these sandisk. the sandisk is my favorite built for how small and smooth it feels. in my DIT kit i keep a couple of these drives and they have traveled and bounced all over yet still work great out in the field. ive also been able to run windows 10 off of it externally bootcamp. some people online have said they can only get the other SSDs any brand but SanDisk to work but i was able to after thoroughly formatting it in disk management on Parallels and by booting into Safe Mode Security Startup on the mac side and making sure that Security Boot was set to no security this is macs T2 Chip preventing devices like this to externally boot off it. Very happy with it for all purposes ive used, highly recommend.

Excellent additional storage for the PS5. As close as you can get to the internal SSDs speed for now with the probable exception of the Extreme Pro when playing PS4 games. Solid chance that Sony releases compatibility with this SSD for PS5 game downloads, but well seeOh and its way smaller and thin than I expected which is a huge plus
BradBB –
I buy a lot of external hard drives to both back up my computers and to store my photographic work. In terms of lightweight storage and protection this SanDisk is amazing. Now you can pay a similar price to get a HDD that will have more storage I can think of at least three drive makers that have 5TB drives for about the same price but this SanDisk SSD is ridiculously small and solid in design. I literally put it in the pocket on my camera bag wear I would usually put an energy bar. The SanDisk also seems solid enough to take some shocks without the worry of head crashes. It is also extremely fast on both read and write. You can rely on this bit of technology.

I just transferred 26gigs of high res videos in under 1 minute from my 2021 macbook pro This usbc drive is excellent, small form factor and ruggedized. Actually smaller than I expected so thats a bonus for my plans to bring it along as we adventure around outside and record with gopros and DSLRs. Love the carabiner option for keeping it hooked to a EDC bag. I plan to use this as the primary drive for all my video edit projects and will rely on the transfer speeds to keep buffering at bay. I purchased this SSD drive because of the transfer speeds.Highly recommend

I dont have a house full of gadgets for comparison because I like to buy things once and be done… that was my philosophy choosing this hard drive and it appears to have paid off. Treating this as a multiyear investment I wanted to take advantage of high speeds and high capacity. That search led me to this little fella, which includes the added benefits of IP55 and its other construction features. Very small form factor slips easily into a pocket in my backpack and isnt noticeable at all in terms of weight.Using it was a breeze plugged in via USBC and it was recognized and usable the first time in about 3 seconds. I did NOT use the included software so I cant speak to what it is or what it does. This drive comes with a little pigtail USBC cable and a CA adapter long enough to turn 180 degrees to let you nestle the drive in next to a laptop, but short enough not to have to snake extra cable across the table.
Veal –
I was looking forward to this drive for extra storage for my M1 MacMini, and I wanted a drive that would outperform a SATA 3 connection. My main resource hog applications and Opus by EastWest and Cubase for orchestral scoring. While applications loaded just fine, there was a definite choke point when it came to streaming large samples off of disk and I was getting clicks and pops even with my audio settings at 44.116.Under Blackmagic, with the data transfers which were well under advertised 1000 MBps. As my screenshots show, the included USBC cable was only mid 800s for read and 700 for write. Using the USBC to A adapter yielded only 377 read and 350 write.Adding insult to injury was I paid 450 for this drive 13 days ago and today its on sale for 299.For the pluses, it is packaged well and portable. It feels like solid quality. It was plug and play as can be.
SpeedyDrive –
Its great, speedy, almost like having an internal drive. No lag. Small, USBC and compliments the small 512gb SSD that came with my computer. Pared with my online storage, I have plenty of space. Great for photos, video editing. Got it on sale so an even better deal.

Pros Size weight price for the capacity.Cons Strange interface. Very dated and slightly confusing. Not like the drag and drop usb key interface I expected. Usable once you get used.
Good4u –
I originally purchased the portable drive to back up my computer. I have had no problems with it at all including needing to save pictures and large files for an unexpected death. I was able to do everything I needed with ease and provide the printers with information. I love, love, love it. I am thinking about buying one for each of my kids in college.

I was looking for 1TB HDD. After talking with some people, I realized that the real deal is NVMe. So I decided to give it a try to 500GB external drive. I loved the size and the cable came with an adapter since USBC is not that popular yet. The only issue is that it might burn but it is kind of normal. I am waiting until Thanksgiving 2021 to buy 2 more.
Doug –
Pros Its so much smaller than a conventional external drive, and very fast too. Perfect for backing up and carrying around music and videos. Highly recommended.Cons No power onactivity indicator.

When connected to my Microsoft Surface Book 3 I see 900MBsec transfer speeds which is absolutely incredible. Most advertised speeds on devices like this are garbage. Oddly when connected to my Surface Studio 2 maxed out around 600MBsec.I love the size and build of the device. I can see me using this for the next decade.
Corey –
This is a very compact drive. It is designed for travel and works quickly for video editing and is very responsive compared to spindle drives. It does get a little warm but I have not encountered any heat issues. My only complaint is that the USBC cord is very stiff and short but it wasnt worth deducting a star for that. I may find a more flexible cord since I often work in tight spaces and dont want to damage the USB connection on my computer or the SSD. Great value, great product.

Pros Used these SSDs before and was thoroughly pleased to buy another. Theyre fast, extremely reliable, very light, and easy to carry around with you. Pricing was cheaper than Amazon and other online retailers. Also much more reliable than a standard hard drive with moving parts and can be prone to damage. Instead this SSD has no moving parts and is more difficult to damage. Awesome Thank youCons Although still great value for this particular product, the whole SSD market weighs in much more than their HDD counterparts. Cant really criticise though as very pleased with the product. Thanks

Bought this to to play backwards compatible PS4 titles on my PS5. The speed is almost as fast as the internal storage. Drive gets very warm, but zero issues so far. Highly recommended for use with the PS5 console. Only downside is the included USB cable is only about three inches long, so keep that in mind when purchasing.

Great size super portable. Holds a decent amount. Its also fast. Sleek design. Planning to use it for both personal and professional use. Seems to be easy to travel with, likely bringing it to take photos and videos while on vacation.

I dont know why I waited all this time to purchase this drive. I can finally have my Lightroom catalog and work images in one drive as I switch between my iMac and MacBook Pro. There is a very slight lag when I edit an image from Lightroom to Photoshop but it is something I can tolerate at the moment. This drive is perfect for someone who has a light to moderate workflow in Lightroom andor Photoshop or someone who needs their files mobile.

Fastest external drive Ive used No setup needed but there are files in the drive for added security. I never used it though. I would recommended buying a separate carabiner that locks since the one it comes with seems to rub the black coating over other material.

I shoot mostly wildlife, often overseas. Ive had the smaller 1TB version of this SSD for a few years and its a treat to use to back up images after a long day inevitably followed by an early morning when the last thing you want to do is wait for file transfers to complete before getting some sleep. These SSDs are compact, fast, reliable, and increasingly affordable. What else could you ask for

Having already purchased the 500 GB version of the same drive with excellent results, I opted to buy the larger 1 TB model. The first 1 TB drive I received was not recognized by 4 USB ports on two laptops. On an exchange, the second one had to be plugged in numerous times before being recognized. Upon opening the included SanDisk secure vault software, I was prompted to upgrade it. That put me into endless spinning of the download circle until I was able to finally cancel the unresponsive download, after which the vault software disappeared from the drive completely. Just opening the drive took forever. So I returned the second one too. Also, the included USB adaptor was easily dislodged and constantly had to be checked to make sure it was properly attached. My old 500 GB version still works great though.

So I dont really need the latest fastest version of, well, anything if Im being honest Im a slow, methodical landscape photographer currently. This thing does the job as described such that I can load and edit files via Lightroom and maintain a secure catalogue efficiently. Lightweight and wellbuilt, reliable performance since I first began using it a few weeks ago.

I use this for my Lightroom catalog for editing pictures. I purchased this because I heard on YOUTUBE from a reputable photographer that using one of these while going back and forth between a laptop and a pc would Lightroom work faster. I can say it has I love Sandisk recovery tech people especially as well as they have been helpful every time, and generous with their time. They have helped me recover deleted files in the past that had not been formatted yet.

I bought 2 2tb Extreme SanDisk external drives. Both were actually only 1tb and in sealed boxes. Check the size before you use it. I now have to drive 25 miles each way to return the 2 bought. Nice phyical size and probably would work great but only half of the purchased size.

I bought this to save photos off of my MacBook Pro and free up about 300 GB of disk space. I was amazed at how fast the files saved to the device. Access to the photos from the SanDisk Extreme SSD Drive is very fast. SanDisk has never disappointed me over the years with great quality products. I have never had an issue with a SanDisk item which is why I stay with them. You cannot go wrong purchasing this SSD drive.

I bought SanDisk Extreme Pro 1 Tb some months ago. I want to save info for many years, so I checked the device CAREFULLY using WD Software. SOrry too many errors. Returned it. Got my money back but not my time several hours. Use Western Digital Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows DLGDIAG This is the Most strict test.

I managed to get this on sale and had some Best Buy certificates so based off the price I bought it for…excellent The PS5 caps at about 825GB so I bought this to extend the storage space a bit. Downside, it only allows PS4 games to be added to external devices. But man on man, download speeds have been a dream and I see no performance issues. If you want something small, reliable and rugged, this works.

Ive already written a lengthy review about Lightroom freezing up on me, then restarting my computer and then this SanDisk drive not mounting up again. I use it on my iMac.That same day, after writing that review, the drive decided to suddenly mount up again on my computer a couple hours later as I was trying to recover the footage from it.Ever since then, whenever Ive been using the drive and have had to restart my computer for one reason or another its been Lightroom troubles lately, then the drive doesnt mount up again for another 30 minutes to an hour. I can restart my computer 10 times and it wont mount up. Itll just mount when it decides to mount again.Let me be clear………If I start my computer normally, after its been shut down in a normal fashion, then the SanDisk drive will mount up just fine when the computer boots up. But if my computer has to be forced to shut down due to a problem or a crash or from freezing up, then thats when the drive wont mount for awhile after booting the computer back up.Today I was working in Lightroom and my computer shut down due to a power problem not related to my computer. So I restarted my computer and sure enough I cant get the drive to mount up again. Ive unplugged it, changed the cable, restarted my computer, nothing works. This is actually the 3rd time this has happened to me and this time Im at least a little more hopeful because I do believe itll mount up again whenever it decides to do so.In fact, as Im writing this, it just now popped up on my desktop. So my computer was restarted 30 minutes ago and now the drive has finally decided to mount up its a relief each time I do see it finally pop up.Before I decided to write this new review as I was sitting here hoping the drive will mount, I did a little deeper research online and this mounting problem appears to be a pretty common problem with this drive. Ive read some things from people that have had the exact same experience as me, where it mounted up on its own time. Some people were saying they couldnt get it to mount up at all anymore. So the frustrating thing is……. this is a great, fast little drive. PERFECT for storing all my photo work and working straight from Lightroom with it. But this mounting issue is REALLY frustrating when if a computer problem occurs and I have to wait and hope for it to mount again. It makes me wonder if its finally going to decide not to ever mount again at some point. I have no doubt SanDisk knows about this issue so hopefully theyll get this issue fixed. Until then….. buyer beware

Convenient size and package. I found it fast on a USB 3.0 connection. I am using it for static backup on a Linux system, so cannot evaluate for Windows or Mac environments. The cables packed with the device are very short, which in my usage is a nonissue, others may wish for a longer cable.

The SanDisk Extreme 1TB External is a super fast and portable NVMe Solid State Drive. SanDisk has combined a lightweight and durable hard drive with blazing fast NVMe speed. This is a huge upgrade compared to previous USB 3.0 External Hard Drives. This hard drive is solid enough I feel like I can take it with me and not worry about damaging it anywhere I go. I am a professional photographer so I always need to have an external with me when traveling or editing. I am very impressed by the read write speed of the drive and if you had USBC it really takes advantage of that higher speed. Its also fast enough to work directly off of using Lightroom and Photoshop which isnt always the case with USB 3.0 Drives. All in all I highly recommend this drive to anyone who is looking for a fast efficient and portable rugged Hard Drive.

Met or exceeded my high expectations. I am using this 2 TB SSD drive as essentially my main drive holding all my photos, videos and documents I would have had on my previous computer just bought a MacBook Pro with a smaller SSD.The SanDisk basically as fast as an internal drive and boots up instantly when plugged in. My other disc based external drives take a bit to appear in the Finder and read and write much slower. Going forward I will simply switch the drive to which ever computer I am using laptop or desktop. Very happy with the performance and small size.I bought a small hard Hermit Shell case from Adorama that, though not designed for it, fits perfect. So far very happy with this equipment.

This is the fastest Portable USB Hard drive I have ever used. It is made by Western Digital who owns SanDisk. WD is known for making one of the most reliable hardrives in the industry. It comes with a USB Type C to USB Type A dongle for use on devices with older USB Type A ports. It also had a 5 year warranty. I would highly recommend this Sandisk SSD Portable USB drive to anyone who wants the fastest Portable USB Hard drive and the lightest one I have ever used. It works with the Xbox one X and the Xbox Series S X. You cant install Xbox Series S or X games on it.. you can only install Xbox One, 360 and original Xbox games.

The very first thought I had when opening the package was Wow, this thing is small.Im used to dealing with traditional 2.5 hard drives, and I wasnt quite prepared for how small this tiny little external drive would be.The drive comes with an adapter for using it with a traditional USB typeA port. That being said, my laptop has a USB typeC port with Thunderbolt and I was able to plug it in without the adapter.I was absolutely floored by the speed at which it transferred files.I moved roughly 5GB of files INSTANTLY. I mean that quite literally. There was no delay, no loading bar, no indication of any type of file movement whatsoever. I initially thought that something had gone wrong with the transfer since everything was so silent. It wasnt until I started actually opening some of the transferred files that I realized that it had simply worked insanely fast.I love the soft touch feel to the drive. This is going to sound silly, but its extremely comfortable to hold in ones hand. The lightly rubberized surface makes it very grippable for lack of a better term.I would strongly recommend this drive for anyone with a USB typeC port looking for fast, compact storage.

I purchased this to be used as my data drive on my IMAC. This way I have no user data on my internal SSD Dive. It is extremely fast, I do not notice any loss of speed from when my user data was on my internal SSD. Time Machine backs up my user data the same way it did on my internal drive. I use my MAC for my Photograph processing, which requires a lot resources and this drive works great with it. Also, in Oklahoma we sometimes have tornados, grass fires, etc. and it is so easy to just put it in your pocket if you are forced to leave.

I want to love it. It is quite small, but the cord is short, which isnt much of a problem. I loaded it with a large backup, about 300 Gbytes, 370,000 files, but it took up 600 Gbytes of space. It was formatted with 1 Mbyte blocks, so small files took 1 Mbyte. I tried to reformat with 4Kbyte blocks, but then it seemed really slow. Not sure if it was, or just appeared to be when I checked. Reformatted again with 64 Kbyte blocks, and it used about 420 Gbytes of space. Acceptable, but not ideal. This is an issue with exFAT though, not the drive I guess. Otherwise, I love it.

This SSD Hard drive is super fast faster than any other external device Ive used previously. I had been using a pocket 128gb flash drive and this one is only a little bit bigger than that. Still a little too big to replace the thumb drive, but small enough to put on my keychain and have with me everywhere I go. Its great for moving large files between computers and OSs without having to wait for cloud services to uploaddownload too. Great little device

Bottom Line Up FrontSanDisk delivers another yet another high performing, rock solid storage solution only now its completely pocketable and faster than ever. If your looking for a semirugged, take anywhere, ultrafast portable storage then the SanDisk Extreme Pro should definitely be on your list HOWEVER, even with IP55 dustwatershock RESISTANCE I dont think this bad boy is as rugged as it may initially appear if that that happens to be your primary point of consideration.Unboxing, Styling FunctionalityThe Sandisk Extreme 1TB External NVMe drive comes with everything you need to start transferringsavingmoving your files and content right out the box. The drive is backed by a nice 5 year manufacturers warranty. Seeing as how the Extreme NVMe drive is a USBC device, SanDisk is kind enough to throw in a female USBC to male USBA read old school square shaped adapter in the box in addition to the single mandatory USBC cable. I was a little disappointed in the length of the included USBC cable, and I estimate its about 68inches in length way to short in my eyes. If you plan on connecting this to a traditional tower or taller PCdevice it will be potentially dangling by the cable however if you use a laptop or have a top case mounted USBCUSBA port you should be fine. I cant help but feel this is one of those areas where a little more thought could have been placed by SanDisk to better suit a wider swath consumer devices even if I have to pay a dollar or two more to get a little more cable length as a result. As soon as you hold the SanDisk Extreme in your hand though, it just feels so cool literallyI guess that in large part due to the soft touch siliconerubberized coating that wraps around almost three quarters of the device. Only the topside facing portion of the drive is made of what feels like dimpledtextured plastic. The drive has a decent sized carabiner loop on the upper right side of the device, and only has a single female USBC port along the lower right corner. The whole unit feels light, yet satisfyingly well built at the same time to me. Sadly, I worry that as nice as the rubberized surface may appear, I have experienced significant wear on surface like this from other devices in the past. Its only been a few days of regular use, but I do worry about the longterm physical appearance over repeated travel and uses outdoors or on less than ideal surfaceenvironments. Additionally, it is for those reasons that I wouldnt want to actually clip this device on anything or anything onto it since I fear it will only wearscratchrub the coating off as well. As I just said so far so good, but only time will tell.Performance UsageThe Sandisk Extreme has performed flawlessly in all my file, image, and project transfers so far. I work with large Virtual Machine filesimages in addition to very large image files for webphoto design and development and I have to say that the SanDisk Extreme 1TB was a welcomed stepup from my current traditional 1TB2TB Platter USB hard drive setup I use to move around stuff from various workstations and personal machines. From a professional standpoint I was impressed how much performance increased the NVMe technology has increased file transfer speed and reduced file write times. The Extreme 1TB literally cut my transfer times by around 40 to 50 and that adds up when your transferring RAW image files or 20 Gigabyte VM files upwards of 40 times a day.I did note how WARM borderline HOT the Extreme 1TB can become particularly on large file transfers and interestingly stays mildly warm while plugged into a USB port. I cant help but wonder what a little more metal or heatsink consideration could be taken into place because I know for some people this may be a weaksticking point especially if your using it ina rugged outdoors setting, in hotter climates, during the peak of the warmer seasons. It does make for a nice hand warmer in a cold server room though Even on my large 20 Gigabyte transfer files as you can see in my photos I was still getting a respectable 400MB write speed, so to me thats greatWhile using it to transfer smaller batches of not professional grade images and documents at home for personal fun use I think the SanDisk excels more than anyplace else. It is formatted as a exFAT obviouslyso that it can be compatible with a wider range of consumer Operating Systems and devices but if youre working on Windows machines AND looking for more performance AND have a mind for enhanced securityfile permissionsystem administration like I do I suggest you format the drive for NTFS before you start to use it.Interestingly, and unsurprisingly the USBC female port has mange to build a small amount of lint and crud from being traveled with in my DaytoDay activities. I am not the most gentle with my portable drive to be fair so I cant say that there is anything inherently bad about the Extreme 1TB design other than potential cosmetic material durability concerns. While IP55 certification covers most accidental water accidents, this does not mean you can submerge the drive, or expect to survive a dip in the poollakeriver either. As nice as the Carabiner look I find myself a little perplexed to its inclusion for actual outdoors style activities. Especially because that USB port has no cover as I previously mentioned yes I know the device is mostly sealed and as I previously stated has IP55 dustshockwater resistance but call me old school and that doesnt mean your USB cables and device ports are necessarily certified that level either.Closing thoughtsI found it interesting that the device has no plug or dust cover for the USBC port on the drive itself. I cant help but think as rugged or portable as the device is that relatively inexpensive rubbersilicone dust cover would go a long way in preventing the amount crud andor pocket lint that ends up inevitably building up inside the female end of the internal port particularly after being placed in a bag or pocket. I really like the way the Extreme 1TB feels and looks in my hand or w I Just worry it wont look that way for long after a few months of being tossed in my photography bag, my gym bag, my pocket along with my keys, my backpack ..you get the drift. While the heat generated by the NVMe drive may be mildly off putting its been my experience that most NVMe drives get warm under usage. It would be nice if SanDisk maybe could a little more thermal consideration into the design perhaps a metal top plate instead of plastic. Regardless, SanDisk stands behind their products with a 5year warranty and I personally never had a SanDisk drive fail on me without cause. The SanDisk Extreme 1TB has knocked it out of the park where it counts most in my book performance. Its faster and lighter and takes up way less space than my older traditional USB platter disk drives you can see a photo of my older drives with a Nomad Case for comparison. The Extreme has convinced me its time to upgrade the rest of my older portable USB drives so that I can travel lighter, and spend less time waiting for things to get done be that for work, or just documents and image manipulation at home. I find myself now doing more in less time even if it is not as rugged as I though it should be.

This is a compact and durable looking item, for a good price. I have used many SanDisk products, this is my first NVMe.It is uncomplicated, without the burdensome hardware encryption that has caused the aggravation of trapped data by another devices inability to withstand a bounce.Obviously, it would be better with a lower gig cost, but the solid reputation and fair price make up for all of that.

This SanDisk, SS portable drive is great to have in the field or on trips to back up your Photoss and files. It is very fast and extremely convenient and reliable. I use these drives as backups in my home and especially when traveling. I then transfer the files to my main drive and later to a backup drive. Very fast even for very large files of all types.Lightweight to carry and very safe. I always backup twice. I carry two of these drives when traveling. These drives are excellent

Im a real fan of these drives. They are rugged, compact and the form factor is great. I have several of them now and, like all of the other SanDisk products I own, I love them. Ive never had a SanDisk memory device fail and Ive been using them for nearly 20 years now.

I bought this as an extra storage unit for my laptop. I thought it may be nice for moving videos from one computer to another . I was very surprised at how fast it would download a video. It is a very compact unit for being 1 Terabyte and comes with the cord and 2 types of plugs. I plan on buying a bigger one next

This SSD is plenty fast for using as a media disk in Davinci Resolve. The Blackmagic disk speed test says its suitable for everything except for the very toptier RAW footage which I have no plans to shoot in the near future. The drive works reliably, stays connected, is fast, and doesnt get too hot during operation. The only problem I see is that it includes a USBA to USBC adapter, rather than a separate cable. I foresee the adapter getting lost at some point, though I dont really have a need to connect this disk via USBA right now.

I needed an external drive for my business laptop and this worked like a charm. It was fairly compact and came with a usbc to usbc cable as well as an adapter that could go to usb3. I didnt need that converter.I ran crystal disk mark 8 on this as well as on another external nvme drive that I had a big name brand and I was surprised that the SanDisk Extreme outperformed it using the same usbc connection. I achieved first line read speeds of 464 MBs with write speeds of 462 rounded in both cases while the very big name nvme external their latest turned in 427 and 446 respectively on the first line. With regard to how hot this SanDisk runs, it is very reasonable to touch warm, not hot whereas the other nvme external which had a metal case and thermal pad is slightly warmer.to touch.I would highly recommend this for portable storage certainly this is very fast and SanDisk is a quality brand.

The SanDisk Extreme 1TB External USB TypeC NVMe Portable Solid State Drive is a rubberized, heavyduty, small form factor, fast, portable storage device. Ill describe my feelings about it based on what I used it for. I do some hobby cinematography shooting in 4k 24fps most of the time. Thats a pretty good amount of data that needs to be moving fast between devices and takes up lots of space. This device has not given me even a hiccup so far. I have transferred over 2 TBs of data over the course of a few days. This SSD is significantly faster than any SSD I have owned. The fact that its so ruggedly built makes me believe it will last a long time no matter what abuse you expose it to. If you are like me and need a fast, 1TB built to last portable SSD, this device is one of the best you can buy.

Once you start using these SanDisk portable SSD for moving files around it wrecks you for other flash drives. I now own 3 of them and primarily use them for quickly moving video files for myself and employees. Completely dependable and often surprisingly fast. Has changed the way I manage file transfers. Employees love them too and often just work on their video project from files still on the drive. No noticeable lag time.
David –
Nice qualitybuilt fast SSD. I didnt measure the readwrite speed but there is a significant speed improvement when used for photo and video editing. I am using 2TB SSD to store and edit a large video files, normally painfully slow process but with the SSD it is now palatable. The SSD case do run warmhot temperature so I am not sure if this will cause a future reliability problem. Otherwise it is an excellent SSD.

This thing is teensy and super lightweight. A true drive for the onthego creator. Its very fast and I am not having issues with the cord adapter disconnecting easily as others have mentioned. I would definitely recommend it and will probably continue to buy more as my need for storage increases in the future.

As a travel photographer, this is a very small device that doesnt take up much room in my camera bag or computer bag. I use it when traveling to back up my current photos to. Then download to my mass storage unit when I return. I have several different SSD drives for different collections, The SanDisk Extreme has proven to be the best for travel.

My wife is a photographer so this is an extremely valuable asset to anyone who is looking for more storage space yet doesnt have a lot of memory on their PC She often brings this to clients houses to view on their machines. Can be used for any kind of document as well. She is going to use it to display all the pictures of her family on a slide show at an upcoming family event.

SanDisk Extreme 1TB External USB TypeC NVMe Portable Solid State DriveThis 1TB WD SanDisk Extreme portable SSD has everything going for it. Its light 1.76 ounces, spacious 1T and lightning fast when compared to the previous older hard drives. The 1Terabyte offers ample storage for your files, photos and videos. Its dustproof and water resistant, and its small, compact size provides for easy portability of your files when youre traveling. It offers password protection to secure your files from prying eyes. Theres a builtin loop which allows you to secure the drive to a belt loop or backpack. Finally, it offers drop protection as well as Xray and shock resistance. In addition to the drive itself, theres also a USB TypeC to USB TypeA adapter included in the box, making it compatible with most PCs and Macs. And it includes free virus protection. It comes with a fiveyear manufacturers warranty for both parts and labor. Bottom line, this SSD checks all the boxes. Highly recommended.

Pros Compact, easy to use plug and play with windows 10, tough. Highly recommended.Cons Expensive compared to non SSD drives. Think carefully if you really need its. Speeds only relevant if using USB C at both ends but it does work with older types of USB.

Purchased to provide an external backup for a laptop. Easy setup and works perfectly with Apple products. Cable is a little short and the USBC to USBA adapter seems a little flimsy, but has provided good service for other SanDisk drives of the type. Very compact and lightweight.

I bought one of these drives 8 months ago, feeling very confident from the reviews and especially that it was made by SanDisk, a very established company in this business. This was my very first SSD drive and it was on sale so I went ahead and bought one so I can use it mainly for my RAW photography photos and Lightroom catalogs. I felt if I was going to trust any drive to keep all this stuff in one place, it would be an SSD drive like this one.For the past 7 months Ive stored thousands of RAW photos on it which has been for my business and it has been a great drive, other than my small complaint of the cable disconnecting the drive from my computer which would happen sometimes just by simply moving or bumping the drive. But that was ok because its been a fast little drive and convenient to take on the go to do work on my laptop when needed so I was content enough with that.I use this drive pretty consistently since part of my work is shooting models, so I use it almost everyday to edit my photos through Lightroom.Today I was on my desktop computer iMac 27inch 2015 editing some photos in Lightroom when Lightroom froze up on me. I had to manually shut down my computer because the frozen Lightroom also prevented other things from working properly. Yes, frustrating……. but who hasnt had to do that before So whatever.Well when I booted my computer back up, the drive didnt mount. I figured it wasnt much of a problem. Id just reboot my computer again and Im sure itll mount. It didnt mount again. I rebooted one more time with no results. So I tried the drive on my laptop to see if it would mount there. Nothing. I tried another cable to make sure its not the cable. I still got nothing.Fortunately I back up all my RAW photos on another drive in case something like this happens, although I hadnt backed up my last shoot which is killing me right now.Needless to say I am incredibly frustrated and am now scanning the drive with a file recovery program hoping ill be able to recover at least these last photos that werent backed up. The data recovery program can see that the drive is connected to my computer even though the drive doesnt show as mounted.Coincidentally enough, a few days ago I just purchased another one of these exact drives my second one due to Black Friday deals. Now I dont know what to think or what to trust anymore I guess even an SSD drive isnt perfect. This one certainly isnt, and I was stupid enough to think this could be since I hear so many good things about SSD drives.I havent contacted SanDisk yet and I dont expect BH to take care of this since I bought it awhile back. Right now Im just hoping, hoping, HOPING to recover this last photoshoot I did which wasnt backed up yet. Ill just be happy for that at this point. As good as this drive may be in different areas, purchase with caution

The speed of the solid state drive is great and the files are safe, unlike hard drive. I use my One Terabite portable SSD as a backup for my laptop computer. The 500 Gig units I use for music, movies and larger photographic files. My only complaint is that the cost is very high. I notice the price has dropped over the past year or so but it is still very expensive. eg, I would like to have a couple of 2 TB drives but the cost prohibits me from having these. After using the SSD I would never go back to hard drives. My main computer has a 1 TB main Drive and a 500 GB on board drive for data. Speed, safety and effeciency is why I bought solid state drives. Ill have to keep my eyes open for the cost to drop before buying any more of these units.

I purchased a SanDisk 1TB to unclog my computer. The data transfer was so fast and so efficient that I purchased another one within days.I realized the following drawback too late I look at it sideways and it gets ejected from the desktop. The connection is so unstable that I have to pay super attention to how I lays it on my desk.I should have paid more heed to a similar recent review from a user before my purchases. This might have caused me to research other alternatives more deeply.
