This is the fifth one I bought Set up quickly I bought a Drive Cloning Device to switch out an old HD with this SSD. The Cloning device couldnt talk to the SanDisk, BUT their inhouse cloning software worked perfect and fast. Dont bother with cloners, just use their setup software, you will be happier. this unit makes the whole system run sooo much faster.

SSD drive prices are down probably about as far as theyre going to go, starting in the 20 range for a 120128GB model and around 100 for a big 1TB model Note that these are not premium devices from the biggest names, but theyre good, solid, wellperforming drives.Ive updated several of my older desktops recently one of which has a spinning drive thats starting to show signs of failure, and another which is my mostused everyday computer thats now about 4 years old, and was equipped with a 1TB spinning drive. Figured it would be a good time to hedge against eventual failure and improve system performance at the same time.So I opted for this SanDisk TB SSD, which was onsale for under 100, and put it in in place of the existing system drive.I used Macrium Reflect Free to clone the existing system to the SanDisk, which was connected to the system via a USB3 external drive enclosure. Prior to cloning, I had to initialize it in Windows 10 disk management so that the system and Macrium Reflect would recognize it. From that point, it was an easy process, just following the prompts and letting Macrium do that hard part.It didnt take long, despite the fact that the original 1TB drive was well over 50 full. I didnt time it I started the cloning process and went to dinner. When we returned, it was finished, showing an Operation Completed message. At that point, I powered down the system, removed the power and data cables from the original drive and connected them to the SanDisk. The system booted right away and I really mean RIGHT AWAY Its always a treat watching the first boot of a computer thats been fitted with a new SSDSmooth as butta My system took right up where it left off, but runs significantly faster using any applications that are diskintensive.Great purchase

When one buys this ssd drive, you are given a web URL to download the ssd dashboard. That sw is fine. It gives you a link to download a sandisk specific copy of the True Image software. That software cannot see the SSD drive when connected via a USB adapter as used when upgrading from the internal HD to this SSD. True Image have not replied to this fault in their software and I am using AOMEI partition assistant instead. The software utility recommended by Sandisk should work with their drive

I would recommend as a first SSD boot drive. Will be easier if you use this on a fresh install of windows.. Since its only 120gb, you arent going to be able to clone a 2 year old hard drive that youve been using everyday.. there just wont be enough room. Get windows, your drivers updated, and get the most important programs installed and then clone. Place everything else like pics, downloads, and your xxx on your old hard drive. I joke, but you know what Im talking about. lol

I love the speed and quality of this sad drive. Used it in my MacBook Pro 13 late 2011. Its now super fast even in basic menu functions. Boots super fast under 1 min. Even cut down on my fan staying on All the time. Would highly recommend Thanks again

Good drive for the price. Seems a little slow as digital SSDs go but that could be my imagination.I build new PCs with 1 new SSD every 3 weeks, this one just seems a little slower than others I have used. Recommended with reservations.

Absolutely transformed my 7 year old laptop. As fast or faster than day one. It took me a week to install with a new operating system and set everything up but well worth it. Longer battery life, quieter, much faster boot up, less heat, lighter. Saved me a fortune because I dont need to buy a new laptop.

You may get it or an alternative cheaper online but well done Argos for holding a decent branded SSD in stock on a sunday. Not the fastest but most will never notice and way faster than a HDD.

While not specific to the SanDisk produce, an SSD drive is the simplest, and best value, upgrade for any computer to increase speed. I initially bought one for my notebook which was frustratingly slow compared to my desktop and it immediately became very usable. So much so that I got a bigger one and installed the operating system and scratch drives of my desktop computer in it, leaving all the data on big conventional drives, and the improvement was equally worth while. Far better spend your money on one of these first before considering more memory or faster processors.

My SanDisk 480GB SSD failed in the first year of use. I was very happy with the performance of this drive until it stopped working. SanDisk did offer to replace the drive at no cost but the whole experience was so disruptive I didnt bother sending it back for a replacement. The cost of the drive was nothing compared to the cost of its failure. With all the time spent recovering files, lost work, and downtime. No thanks Not going to risk it again.

This is a short review as this device is easy to sum up in a few words. It does exactly what it says on the tin and is made by a reliable and trusted manufacturer. I use this as a scratch disk when video editing. Its fast and I expect it to be reliable…Thats about it.

I bought this SSD a couple of years back for my ASUS X54CRB01 laptop before the OS failed and when the laptop was struggling to stay up and running. 3 Years ago, I installed the SSD into my main desktop PC for the OS Windows 10 Pro x64 since I put my ASUS laptop in storage for a while until I can get it back up and running and the speed has increased by a lot when booting Windows. The OS was on a 150GB partition, plus a 100MB System Reserved partition, so I moved the partitions to the 480GB SSD backed up the data first and its been working for a long time.

Lags are a thing of the past for my 4 year old laptop that was using a 5400RPM spinning disk. I expect this upgrade to prolong my laptops life for another couple of years. The nice thing is that I can then take this drive and put it in my future computer. I only wished the capacity could have been a little bigger at least 512 GB in which it would be easier to clone. It makes it a lot harder when you go from a bigger disk to smaller disk My source disk was 500GB so going to a 480GB disk was chore.

Great drive. It has invigorated my trusty Dell Latitude D630. Had to pay attention upon install no spacer is included, so I had to angle the drive to ensure it connected to the SATA header.Once that was done, though, everything else was easy as pie. Reinstalled Windows 10 via USB, and my old laptop was up and running in no time. Everything has worked good since.

This SSD works fine. It replaced the system drive in my PC. The downside is, the copy software SanDisk supplies does not work. The PC would hang during a boot. I found a free utility to perform the copy of the hard drive to the SSD. After this was performed, the PC booted fine from the SSD. This issue has been mentioned in other reviews of this SSD.

SATA SSDs are like appliances now. They all seem to blend together and one works pretty much the same as another unless you worship at the altar of benchmarks or Crystal Diskmark. This will make you computer seem like a funny car running on nitro if youre coming from a spinning hard drive. If not…. more of the same. This a good, cheap drive and thats the best thing about it.

Paid a great price. The SSD is just as quick if not quicker than a Samsung I already have. Its well made. The proof will be in the long term, SanDisk are a well know quality company, so I think its a winner.

This SSD was added to an older pentium laptop to try and make is usable again for Windows7, worked well, not top rte performance but made it viable for web browsing, email, etc. We saw at least a 25 performance gain, even though the laptop only had a sata II controller. With a slightly newer laptop with a sata III controller and replacing a hard disk drive you would see even better gains.

Ive had 3 sandisk SSD drives fail on me in the past year or so. The average life expectancy is from 13 years on their SSD drives. Their support has been great at replacing them but it is a pain to have to deal with the replacement and data restoration every time it happens. Ive got spinning drives that are 1015 years old and still work fine so there is absolutely ZERO reason for an SSD to continue to fail like this. Giving 2 stars only because their support is good at replacing their flawed drives. Wont be buying any new ones again at any price.

I used the solid state drive to replace a slow hard drive. I replace it in one of my laptops and it was so fast I did the same thing to another laptop I have. Using the proper software to transfer from one drive to the other is a must. The drives work perfect.

I have installed over a dozen of these for clients over the past year, all have performed flawlessly. This is a dirt cheap way to turbocharge the boot time and performance of both older and newer PCs that currently have a standard spinning hard drive. The readwrite time is up to 10x faster than a traditional drive you will not believe its the same PC after installing one.Is 240GB enough space For an average user, yes. You can check the amount of space being used on your current drive by opening File Explorer, leftclicking on the C drive and looking at the amount of file storage youre currently using. If the number is 160GB or lower and you dont plan on adding thousands more songs or hours of cat videos to it you likely dont need anything with a higher capacity than this.

Dont get me wrong, the priceperformance of that little thing is excellent. Just dont expect it to hit 400MBs constantly. Id recommend it as an alternative to an HDD for storing anything, but standalone as the single system drive would not be a good idea. The whole SSDexperience feels sluggish and slow Operating system start up times are not comparable to say even a Samsung Evo 850, they are more in the range of an SSHD, just a tiny bit faster.

This item is great, my PC is so much faster with it. It was a pain to get working though and took almost 8hrs. The supplied software was not very informative. Here is what I found worked. Install the device software, restart your PC. Connect the device to your PC to be cloned, your PC will not recognize the device so you have to go to Disk Management under computer management and right click and do new spanned volume or something like that, you can find that on the web all over. Then you can use the supplied software to clone your old HDD. Good Luck

I purchased this drive to be a primary boot device on my Windows 7 desktop and replace an HDD. Booting to Windows takes less than 5 seconds on average with this SSD, on the HDD my computer took at least 20 seconds to load Windows. One downside to SSDs is that they are currently much more expensive per GB, for this reason I purchased the 120GB model for Windows, Applications, and Games. My desktop still uses standard HDDs for storage as they are much more cost effective per GB when speed is not a crucial factor.

I love the Sandisk SSD Dashboard It shows all the SMART information on the drive and also has a life remaining bar, so you know ahead when to replace the SSD. After 2 years as a boot drive, mine has 96 life remaining, with my software SSD at 99 life remaining. I havent tried other SSD brands, but I dont need anything that this brand doesnt already have.

I really like this ssd drive it has many good qualities way better then the kingston ssd drives. It doesnt over heat performs pritty good very fast boot times. Only faults i found were its a 111gig not 120gig like stated in description and id like to only pay 100 Dollars or less for a 111gig drive even if ssd. But compared to all the other ssds out there your getting a big bang for your buck especially if youve never tried ssd you in for a treat it changes boot time from two to three mins like with a rpm drive down to less then sixteen seconds boot time. And everything is almost instantaneous

Bought this for my gaming rig. The 2TB 7200 rpm regular hard drive would hang up occasionally playing Red Dead Redemption 2. I installed this and moved all my games to this drive and the difference is amazing. Will never use a regular drive for my games again. Load times have been cut in half or more across all the games I play. I have a smaller version for my operating system Win10 and the computer boots in less than 20 seconds and 8 seconds is the hold time to enter the BIOS.

I installed this on my aging MacBook Pro and breathed new life into it. I replaced the older, slow 5400 RPM hard drive and the improvement was immediate. Restoring everything from time machine was quick, booting takes seconds, not minutes. I also made sure to enable TRIM using the trimforce command to extend the life of the drive. All in all a good upgrade for a good price that would work wonders for just about any aging laptop.

i have used this exact model ssd to upgrade my old Samsung laptop, and a new hp that i purchased as a present for my mother. both worked out great, and continue to years later. also put one in my brother in laws budget gaming pc to give it a little boost. has done the job well. picked this one up because the sale price was great, and my spare Kingston ssd has been claimed, so i bought this to replace it, as i like to always have a spare ssd just incase, as downtime is nonoption for me personally. would definitely recommend to anyone looking for decent speeds for light gaming , or heavy personal use. as for heavy gaming, or video editing, ect, probably an m.2. otherwise, great drive, great price.

I am no PC guru but I just built my second home gaming PC. Now I did have 3 partitions on this hard drive out of the box. I tried to install Windows 10 and Windows 7 for testing purposes but a system error told me it could not install Windows on the primary partition because it was a GPT format. It took me some time and research to figure out how to fix this, and in the process I started getting a boot manager missing error which also delayed me. In the end, I had to unplug the ssd, boot from cd, plug in the ssd once at the Windows install setup screen, refresh and format ALL partitions, delete all partitions, new all partitions, reset the pc and finally begin the install. In a nutshell functional but painstaking. That was my experience.

Bought this SSD a couple of days ago, and I wish I bought a Samsung SSD instead. First off, I had a rather difficult time locating migration software to clone with. Samsung uses its own. I finally found Anomei Backer upper. I finished cloning the old HHD to SSD, shut it down installed the new Sandisk SSD and it wouldnt boot. I restarted into the bios, then nothing but a blank screen. It appears to have fried the motherboard. My girlfriend is really ticked off now. It was her PC that I was trying to upgrade. OMG Im returning the Sandisk as soon as I finish this review. If I could I would give a zero rating. Thanks for nothing Sandisk. Never again.

Bought before Christmas to replace the spinning drive in my laptop. Although both drives were nominally 1Tb the Sandisk SSD was marginally bigger, which made cloning the drive straitforward. I have a dual boot Linux Windows set up, and both OSs now boot rapidly. From selecting the OS to login screen, 11 sec in Linux, and 17 sec in Windows 10. Launching applications is also noticeably quicker. Too early to know about reliability as only been in use a week or two but seems fine so far. Did not look for cloning software on Sandisk website, as Clonezilla a linux based clone tool worked fine for me. burned to a USB live disk the process took around 2 hours to clone the 1Tb drive, which has about 650Gb data.

By reputation and experience SanDisk have always managed to produce excellent storage devices. This new device has been installed in my HP Elitebook 8570p. The SSD it replaced was only 240GB and it was starting to give me some problems due to it being quite full, photographs and music primarily. This new SSD Plus is noticeably quicker on startup and video editing activities. Youll have to take my word as I didnt really benchmark the old one but this is like the brown stuff of a shovel The Old one is now in the the desktop and so my overall PC performance is really good.

Ive had nothing but good experience with SanDisk products, this is no exception. Great little drive for the price, if youre not storing a lot then 240GB should be more than enough. SSD over standard HDD is an incredible performance upgrade, you can breathe a few more years of life into your aging system with one of these at a minimal cost.

WOW what a difference. No matter what computer you have Id really advise anyone to use this as the Boot drive rather than the SATA hard disk, you can then use your SATA drive for storing all your progs etc. All in all, a great deal at the price Highly recommended.

After struggling with a painfully slow laptop for a while I decided to experiment with replacing my drive with an SSD. Read through a lot of reviews which said Samsung EVO 850 is the best one for budget buyers. Its price was somewhere around 110 all around the web and stores.I still wanted something cheaper and went through a couple more youtube videos. One of the suggested this hard drive as the one that works best for average users and that there would NOT be a noticeable difference bw Samsung and this one. I got this for around 75 from walmart and it has been positive since. The laptop became 100x faster and that saved me money which I would have to spend on a new laptop. Now Im running windows 8.1 with ease on a 6 year old Intel core 2 Duo machine. Go for a bigger one if your budget allows.

I bought 2 of the Extreme 120. According to SanDisk website httpwww.sandisk.comproductsssdsata, the writespeed is better than that of Ultra Plus models. I tried to boot 2 Dell Latitude E5430 1 with Ultra Plus, 1 with Extreme II. Both showed same result in that regard. There may be slight difference, but its not noticeable. The Extreme II has 8GB less comparing to the Ultra Plus, though. One important difference is in the dimension. The specs posted on SanDisk website showed both models are 7mm thick where in fact, the Extreme II that I got was actually thicker by possibly 2mm. Im not exactly sure of the mm difference, but it is for sure thicker. This caused a problem when using the Extreme II in the Latitude E5430. Since its a bit thicker, it cannot be seated 100 all the way with the SATA connectors. The hard drive bay of the laptop can handle the drive, but there is a little notch at the corner of the bay that prevents the Extreme II to be fully connected to the SATA connectors. For that reason, I had to resort to using the Ultra Plus model instead. Just a note of caution as I was able to put the Extreme II to use in Desktop PCs.

This SSD has been a great replacement for physical drive in a new high performance desktop machine. As expected, OS boot and load time response were enhanced noticeably. The only thing I can think of that would make it even better for the consumer, is to include image transfer software.I solved that by purchasing another, internal WD HDD separately, for backup that included the Acronis image software download for moving OS and data.

Was sceptical at first because of the price, packaging wasnt confidence inspiring either. HOWEVER, for the money you cannot complain. The drive was in excellent condition, and marked with REFURB as stated in the description. Installation was a doddle, and windows was installed with relative ease. I was running out of space on my old 74Gb 69.2Gb actual system HD. Needed a larger hard drive to add programs and possibly a Linux Distro for my astronomy science. Please note that youll need a 2.5to3.5 adapter to fit it into normal desktop bays. Also note that Im using a Shuttle SN27P2 circa 2006 that does not support Sata III but works with the SSD anyways at Sata II speeds

Great SSD, its fast and works well. The thing to be aware of, I did have to install their software to get my pc to recognize the disk. I have a different brand already installed in my computer that was immediately recognized and expected the same from this SSD. This was just a minor inconvenience and not a big deal, if you are installing this drive into your pc then you are advanced enough to deal with the software install imho.

Our Dell Latitude 15 5000 had the standard hard drive that came in it and it was extremely slow. We installed this drive and it immediately made the laptop fast and usable. Chatted with Sandisk Support about the software needed to clone the old drive. All, in all, do not buy this drive. It seemed like a good idea at the time when it was on the daily deals here on newegg. Now that Ive been trying to get the installation of windows on my system to clone to this drive, Ive gotten a very bad taste in my mouth for sandisk or any of their products. How can you go wrong with an SSD Wait, I know buy one of some other companys BX series Been there, done that. But with this awesome SanDisk drive you wont have those silly overheating problems the other guys didnt bother to tell us about. This drive flies Its so light it feels like it could be full of clouds. The speed difference for any system is see title amazeballs You can take pretty much any computer as long as the operating system supports SSD drives and youll be able to avoid buying a new system for at least a few more years. I will definitely buy a 2 Terrabyte drive as the Gig price contines to fall. I have one drive bay left in my beautiful, pristine but antique Lian Li all aluminum midtower case. I am putting all my many obsolete electromechanical drives WD Blacks Blues, Seagates, etc to work as backups I also need another 1 Terrabyte SanDisk so I can retire my wife,s 640 Gig WD Black covert her PC to an all SSD drive desktop. She currently has a 240 480 SSD as well as the Black.

SSDs are by far the most significant tech development in years. I will never willingly buy a product with a mechanical hard drive again. SandDisk makes what seems to be a reliable product. As with anything, you should always backup your data because with a SSD, a failure could mean zero access to your data, so that might be considered one serious flaw, but it hasnt happened to me yet, so I got that going for me

the drive is not protected in strong case so handle with care. Strange size 240GB instead of 250GB.I bought it to replace the 500GB harddrive so slow w Windows 10. Current data occupied is about 145GB, I spent hour to shrunk the diskspace to make it fit for imaging, but Clonezilla doesnt accept that. After Google, I found out Sandisk allows to download WD Acronis, and it worked perfectly.

I thought Id have to buy her a new machine but thought Id try this. It was like getting a new PC, saving me the time and expense of getting a new one and moving her to that. She was happy, too. Decent solid state disk SSD, much faster lower power use than traditional momentum HDD, and I can fit 2 in the same space. Only warning nominal capacity is 1 terabyte 1 TB actual as formatted for NTFS is 930 GB seems pretty typical for 1TB SSD as another brand I bought is the same. But, it was less than 100 on sale so that was my price point. Might drop a few tens of more in the next 6 months, right now was the time to buy.

There is a review stating that this is a false item description from February and Walmart still hasnt updated the listing. This is not an external drive, it is internal or would require an external enclosure to be purchased. You can see in the picture that it says nothing about being a USB external drive, unlike the description. All this from the description is a lieImprove your data storage with this SanDisk SSD Plus 480GB External Solid State Drive. It performs up to 20 times faster than a typical hard disk drive. It delivers faster startups, shutdowns, data transfers and application response times. This SanDisk external SSD also offers quiet, reliable performance and dashboard status monitoring for your favorite media applications. Quite honestly the product was unusable as purchased. It had apparently sat on the shelf for a very long time. I went to Mcafee to get malware, spyware and virus protection and and as configured by Office Depot ,Mcafee would not load onto the computer. The windows program needed 179 updates. Then Mcafee protection would load. I spent four hours with a technician from Mcafee loading Windows program updates and then Mcafee protective software. That session cost as much as OD charged to put in the new hard drive

My laptop was running agonizingly slow and it often took 30 minutes or even an hour at times just to boot up. The IT guy at work told me that the best thing to do would be to upgrade my hard drive to a Solid State one in order to boost performance. I relayed this information to the salesman who showed me a few options. I choose this one because of past success with this brand. My performance boost is through the roof. My boot up time went from 30 or 40 minutes or more to just a few seconds. I no longer have any lag time in functionality and the software programs all open and run nearly instantaneously. My frustrations gone, I now all but have a new laptop.Very pleased with the results Im getting. No other hardware included with SSD.Problem arose after downloading and running the free Acronis cloning software. This is a Western Digital San Disk owner licensed version. The new version is not listed in the online instructions. After running, apparently successfully, my computer would not boot from the new SSD drive. After a couple attempts to troubleshoot I downloaded and ran the free version of AOMEI Backupper. Problem solved.System boots faster and loads software quicker. I am unable to achieve maximum data throughput probably due to limits of my SATA interface but still much better.SanDisk needs to resolve software issue but pleased with drive.

I bought this to rebuild a 4 year old i7 Windows 10 laptop that had a bad hard drive. The SanDisk was a good size for a main system drive. Id recommend a Windows PC have at least a 200 GB system drive for most peoples apps and general use.Gamers and heavy video and graphics users would need a much larger drive, but this was good for a general purpose laptop and the SSD should last more than twice as long as a standard HD, which tend to fail after 2 or 3 years. Installation was easy and performance was good. No unusual problems.I didnt rate 5 stars because it does not perform as fast as higher end SSDs and did not include software to transfer an existing hard drive to the new one. But for the price, I was happy with it.

Not a knock on SanDisk….T5500 onboard SATA is 3GB. Tried THREE different 6GB SATA cards to boot the SanDisk off of and the Dell BIOS only saw each as a Mass Storage Device but NOT attached drives so NO Bootable Device. You could see thecards in the POST but would never see the attached SanDisk drive. Even tried it with a HD Drive and got the same results. Looks like Dell hamstrung the BIOS…BLOODY WEASELS…Go Figya. SO…the SanDisk is only running at 3GB off the System Board but is it still blows the doors off a HD drive. If anyone has successfully found a 6GB SATA Controller that works in a T5500 NONRAID environment let me know. Looking at whether I can still get the 6GB performance via a Bootable external eSata enclosure. UPDATE 2172016 Found a FANTASTIC INTERNAL SATA III card that works with the Dell T5500…. I purchased the SSD Plus of this drive in February for an exceptionally good price. I think I know why it was priced so low I think it was old inventory Anyway, it died 7 months later no warning just dead all data lost. The 3 year warranty does not cover postage to ship it back the Sandisk in Guelph Ontario, but Best Buy agreed out of goodwill to replace it as an even swap with this Ultra Plus version it sells now. Initially they wanted the price difference for this upgrade, since the SSD Plus was discontinued from their product list. I was a bit suspicious because the packaging did not say Ultra anywhere on it. So I asked Sandisk who confirmed with the model number SDSSDA480GG2 that the new drive was indeed the SSD Plus. not the ULTRA 2 like Best Buy in the US sells, model SDSSDHII480GG2 I concluded that the Ultra Plus that Best Buy in Canada sells is merely the SSD Plus drive under a different product description perhaps to distinguish between the new and the old inventory. Nowhere on the drive or packaging does it use the word Ultra. So it is not. You can check out all the drive models on the Sandisk web site. Basically, there are three levels of drives the Plus. Ultra 2, and the Extreme. There is no such thing as Ultra Plus that Best Buy posts in the online product description.

I bought two of these replacing a desktop 7200rpm HDD and a laptop 5400rpm HDD. Starting from the packaging, this SSD looks and feels cheap. I doesnt come in a box, in a plastic and paper packaging instead, much like a shaving razor. It comes with no additional accessories. Its housing is made of relatively soft plastic which just adds to the cheap feel. I feel if I squeeze it a little itll break. Installation was no problem. There is no cloning software included or even recommended. I used Macrium Reflect and was not able to properly clone the partition from the desktop drive so I had to do a clean install. The cloning of the laptop drive worked, but not to a 100 for example MS Office had to be reinstalled, perhaps there are other affected programs I havent found about yet. The speeds in CrystalDiskMark 5 arent impressive either the advertised reading speed of 535MBs is nowhere to be found the closest it came was 377 MBs the write speed was closer to advertised at 360MBs. This is very disappointing for an MLC drive which is the main reason why I bought it. It did bring a noticeable improvement to the laptop, but almost nothing to the desktop. I recommend the drive to price sensitive customers, but if you can afford another 3040 Euro get something else. The 3year warranty is also almost the bare minimum.

Theyre not so expensive. It now takes my computer only FIVE SECONDS to load up fully from Hibernate, making Sleep obsolete The drive is also super lightweight and makes no noise. Ive included a sidebyside benchmark comparison of my 5400rpm HDD and this SanDisk drive. One note though, for those who may have read somewhere that cloning software is included its not. I recommend the free version of Macrium Reflect.

Ive been looking to replace the HDD in my late 2011 MBP for some time. After finding a great deal on this SSD, I decided to go for it. The difference is night and day. Apps no open quicker than ever before and it seems as if the battery goes a longer distance, although I havent measured it against my old one. Coming from a 750gb HDD to a 480gb SSD was my only worry but after installing this drive I am happy that I made the switch. If you are looking to extend the life of your computer, I suggest this SSD. Only con I can think of is that the size of this thing is incredibly thin. In the 2011 MBP the original HDD is alot taller than this unit, so you may have a problem securing this unit in place so that it doesnt move around. Other than that, this is a great replacement for the price.

I purchased this drive from MicroCenter because it was on sale and gave me 1TB for about the same price as a Samsung 500GB. The Samsung drive I have in another computer IS faster I think. The Samsung was easier to install because the one I purchased came PREFORMATTED for Windows 10 where the SanDisk drive did not. I spent about 45 minutes trying all types of different connections inside the box thinking I had a computer problem before I finally chatted with Sandisk support and then I learned that the drive was not formatted. This drive is much faster than the old hard drive in my laptop. The computer boots faster and there is less delay when I launch a new program. Well worth the money.I would have given the SSD 5 stars except that I had a problem with the installation, and SanDisks support was not able to help. The cloning software, which was included with the SSD, was unable to clone from the C drive a hard drive that was set up in a Raid 0 configuration. Basically, that allows the computer to cache data coming off the drive so the net result is faster reading. Fortunately, I have been making image backups of my C drive. To get the SSD drive to work, I had to physically install the drive, then using the recovery USB flash device, restore everything to the new SSD. The installation software a special version from Acronis does not allow the user to back up and restore the way I did with another 3rd party program. The drive works great now, but there was no information about how to solve my problem in any of the SanDisk literature, and their support tech did not know what to do.

This SSD is Great for its price, but it lacks the write speed that similar drives have. Nonetheless its great for a raid 0 configuration because it gives you 240GB at twice the speeds for a very low cost. I promised to do a swap of my laptop HDD to SDD when the price dropped, which it finally did. The process was straightforward to clone my HDD to the SDD. The physical replacement went smoothly and the SDD worked as advertised. My expectations were blazing fast speed, but I only noticed my laptop became CPUintensive instead of HDDintensive good. Boot time is about 35 faster and normal operations are a little quicker. Biggest finding was you dont defrag a SDD, so get rid of your defrag software before you partake. Also the SDD has a physical life…didnt know that one either. In any case, it appears to be a solid change for me and it has met my base expectations. Definite B if we had to give it a grade.

Steps are 1 search for Download windows 10 or Download the media creation tool you will need a blank USB drive about 8GB 2 install the media creation tool and follow instructions to create a USB image 3 Power off machine, swap your HDD for a SSD 4 In the BIOS boot to your USB stick usually F12 or F2 and change boot order 5 For partitions, click New to create parition Windows creates boot partitions too 6 Continue to install windows 7 connect to your WIFI internet, download all the drivers and updates 8 Done Normally takes about 1 hour to downloadcreate USB image, 10 mins to swap HDDSSD and about 2 hours to install Windows with all the updates. Now you have a REALLY fast machine, enjoy Simply unplug your old HDD I recommend getting a cheap USB connector andor drive enclosure to use it as a backup device and plug in the SSD. I just bought this solid state SanDisk hard drive, to replace the original hard drive in my very new laptop, which crashed after less than 4 months. I cant really speak to its long term viability, but was very glad to find a higher quality replacement drive which will likely not have the same failures that the original drive did. I suspect I had a defective product. However, this SSD fell into the category of almost working. Having something almost work is much worse than being DOA. I was getting terrible performance, dropouts, hesitations whilst using this SSD. So I had to go through a lengthy troubleshooting process.Eventually, I replaced this thing and switched to a competitor and magically my problems went away Hint The competitor is vertically oriented, in that they make the flash, controllers, and firmware. Wow, did I get an outlier or something I am blown away with this little drive. It feels extremely fast and I am getting 503MBs sequential read, 425MBs sequential write, and 25MBs 4k random read. Did I get the best one of the batch or do these things all fly Very impressive especially considering its 120GB size that are normally a little slower than 240s and 480s.

Sandisk offers software like Samsungs Magician as a download on their website. It gives you the ability to update firmware, run S.M.A.R.T. tests, and benchmarks. The firmware in the drive I received is the latest version. Be careful not to break the SATA power connector. When I was connecting the drive I pushed too hard on the connector and thought I broke it yikes. Luckily I did not, however the board the connector is attached to bends very easily.

We are replacing a old Hitachi HGST 5400 drive, not for speed , but to get the drop and temp protection a SSD offers over a Mechanical Rotational Disk. If we had only gotten 30MBs it runs at, we wouldnt have complained, as speed we had wasnt an issue. But 9.8Ms is ridiculously slow. It took most of a work day to transfer just 250GB. Thats not even mentioning the It doesnt turn on bit. We trust SanDisk, or did. We were on with SanDisk Technical Support for Two Weeks, and Sandisks official response was SanDisk will not guarantee speeds ANY SPEED unless the drive is plugged directly in to a motherboard port on a limited set of motherboards. No PCIe cards, No Raid controllers, no adapters, no Caddys, no External box, and no other Motherboards To put this in perspective the 7 year old, 5400rpm rotational disk the SSD was replacing does 30Ms write. No other drive we tested was even close to as slow as this thing. Our Intel SSDs work just fine. Everything the same, only unpluging and pluging in different Harddisks We tried both Win Xp and Win 7 with no difference in speed. We really like SanDisk, and have three SanDisk SSDs from 1992 that still work today. But Intels skull trail line beat them on speed, so most of our SSDs are Intel. But in this case we didnt need the speed, so we when with the trusted SSD maker Sandisk. This has been a Huge surprise. We are returning it, and replacing it with a Mushkin. Who, we precalled Tech Support. Mushkin says there SSD work in everything without limitations unlike the SanDisks SSDs

I have an active file to shut the drive down when its inactive for 20 minutes and activates when I open access the drive. I use it for heavy number crunching when memory is not the answer when it come to writing programs to crunch the numbers. Its held up to my 450rw drives but its much faster than disk drives.

I did a disk copy from my 2 TB HD to this copying about 400 GB of information. It took 36 minutes. I swapped the cables and fired the PC back up. The BIOS wanted to boot from the old HD. I removed the cable from the old HD and had to go into the setup to have the BIOS acknowledge the SSD. After that, it booted with not problem. I reconnected the old HD and it still booted fine. My mistake, not the device. Update on 2282017 Thanks to Newegg, I sent the SSD back. I was just at 30 days. I got a refund instead of a replacement, gun shy I guess. All of the issues went away once I stuck the old HD back in AND deleted the dashboard software for the SSD. Some of the problems remained, IE crashes and problems with some gaming software, until I deleted the dashboard software. Anyway, I paide 265 for this drive and now they are still at 265 and being advertised as 315 normally. I think after 3 months of being on sale, the sale price isnt the sale price anymore. Used this to replace a spinning disk drive in a laptop purchased on boxing day 2011. Once I figured out that I needed cloning software that allows for cloning to a smaller hard drive seems to be rare among cloning softwares and that I needed a USB to SATA cable, the actual physical replacement process was quite easy. Now my laptop is honestly like a brand new laptop. For the price, which was the Black Friday 2016 price, this was a fantastic purchase and has definitely extended the life of my old computer. Its gone from barely usable to speedy and quick. Positive impact to general performance, massive impact on speed of bootup, speed of turning off, and loading time for documents and applications. I researched SSDs for a few hours and this was one of the highestrated drives in its price class. Installation was simple but I had to use an external SATAtoUSB adapter to clone my existing Windows 7 installation directly. SanDisk would like you to buy their adapter, which only works on their drives, but I bought a universal USB adapter for only a few dollars more. This was for an older laptop and the performance improvement was well worth the money. Note that SanDisk makes statements about SLC caching but I believe the drive itself is MLC, which is probably true of nearly all lowcost SSDs.

SanDisk seems to make excellent SSD drives, and of all the different brands Ive used quite a few , SanDisk appears to be the most reliable and consistent in my personal experience. They may not come out on top in the various speed tests with other competitors, but in realworld operation they will satisfy all but the most IO speed obsessed techie. Well worth the price. If you REALLY want to speed up your system, an SSD drive is far and away the BEST investment you can make…with 10 times speed increase over a traditional hard drive as the return on your investment.

UPDATE 08112016 Installed in system Core i54590 ASRock Z97 Extreme4 16GB DDR32400. Were using this as our DVR recording drive because of its high endurance rating 320 TBW and superfast response when searching, skipping ahead or back, etc. when watching recorded programs via VLC media player. VLC is a good media player that allows us to use its graphic equaliser to boost mids and highs to make dialog crisper and clearer for our ageing ears. However, when we skip ahead through the commercials VLC is somewhat laggy with our previous WD and Seagate spinning hard drives. Now, skipping ahead and back as much or little as desired its all very snappy just like it would be if we used Windows Media Center. Windows Media Center is the best player for recording and playing back, BUT theres no tone control of any kind. Tried the X400 first as a game drive to check if it installs and loads games as well as my existing Sandisk Extreme Pro SSD, and the X400 worked just as well as the Extreme Pro. So, no problem using it as a fast data drive or for operating system drive. After a week or two i deleted the games and set it up for DVR use the PC is also our HTPC. Some numbers ASSSD Seq. RW 502460 4k RW 3591 Total Score 1056 Respectable mainstream performance at a few dollars above entrylevel price makes this an attractive option for many users. Yes, the Samsung EVO 1TB is faster and it costs way, WAY more of your hard earned dollars. If you want bragging rights get the Samsung. However, the Sandisk X400 will boot up and open all your programs and games just as fast as the EVO, plus it has very high endurance and the 5year warranty. All that and a much lower price. Looks like a winner. Think ill order one.

Unfortunately my computer was a 32 Bit so I just kep Windows XP.I also upgraded my Windows 7 with a solid State drive and it could not operate faster.I would suggest that when you are upgrading you choose the X86 64 bit option.Microsoft no longer offers a virtual machine for running 32 and 64 bit programs. That is not right that they should cut off past programs in a effort to make people upgrade. I received this old laptop from a friend and decided to upgrade it to see how far I could take it. The last thing was to install a SSD to see if boot up was faster. So I searched for a SSD and found this one, with free shipping and, to me, a great price. It arrived ahead of time which was nice. fter a few moments of looking it over, I installed it. I removed the SATA drive adapter from eth rotating drive interface and put it on the SATA SSD drive. Then installed it into the laptop. I booted the system and it recognized the drive without issues. I then installed WIN 7.1 Pro and subsequently upgraded to Win 10 Pro free, of course. I can now get to a useable screen with this old dog in about 40 seconds and this with only 2 GB of RAM and an AMD SEMPRON cpu. Like I said, old, but now working pretty dang good I can certainly recommend the SanDisk SSD for projects like this, no issues at all for me I am certain that anyone who can use a screw driver could also install one of their own in their old dog as well.

Ive purchased several different brands of SSD in the past, including Mushkin, ADATA, Samsung, Western Digital, and Team Group. SanDisk is the slowest of the bunch by a country mile. Specifically, random read times are atrocious. I could bore you with numbers from Crystal Disk benchmark, but in real world terms my PC with a Mushkin SSD went from a 5 second boot to windows loading screen to a 12 second boot to loading screen. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Maybe SanDisk makes a FASTER version of SSD drive, but so far the SSD PLUS is a big MINUS in performance.

Performance of this drive is way, WAY below other SSDs in the price range. Dont get me wrong, at home we have several Sandisk SSDs an old Ultra II, an Extreme Pro, and an X400, and they are fine. The problem with this SSD Plus model is that its Write speed is about 66 SLOWER than other competing drives. When you tell your computer to Save a file or folder, install a program or a game, or to copy a video, or music, or photos the SSD Writes the data onto the drive. That process should be pretty fast with an SSD. Unfortunately, with this model the larger the amount of data you want to Save, the slower this SSD writes Instead, consider spending just a few dollars more and get something like the Crucial MX300 which is many times faster and has a great track record for reliability. Its true that if you use one of these to replace an old, slow regular laptop hard drive it will speed up your computer, but its nowhere near as good as many other models at a similar price. Sandisk has a pretty good reputation for reliability, but thats about all that the SSD Plus model has going for it.

Dont know that I needed a 480GB. I dont keep my photos and docs etc. on my C drive typically and Im not even using 250GB. I got one this large to have plenty of room for a Win7 OS and a Linux distribution or two. But its hard to get a Linux distribution to boot from the same drive as Win7 especially with UEFI BIOS. Ended up paying 37 for a little 120GB SSD for my Linux OS. Just because for 37 I didnt have to mess around with it. So if youre getting this size SSD for that maybe rethink your math. If youre getting 480GB because you are going to keep some photos and videos on your SSD for editing and reencoding… Rock on. I had about 18GB of HD video on this drive batch reencoding with my FX8350 OCd 8 cores at 4.3GHz per core liquid cooled was clipping at 315 FPS for most of it. with a fast machine this baby is fast.

Its got enough capacity for almost any normal human requirements. I cant imagine needing more, unless youre storing scores of fulllength HD movies.I recommend getting an external case for a 2.5 drive these are cheap and plentiful and mounting the SSD inside it. Plug into your PC or laptop, clone your HD to the SSD, and swap the drives. A great way to bring an old laptop back to life. I have an almost 6 year old lenovo laptop, which started to feel sluggish in the past year or two. A full restart would take at least 90 seconds, up to 2 minutes, programs would open slowly, the desktop would take a few minutes to fully load after restart. I decided to see how much it will improve if I swap out the HDD with this SSD, since it was fairly cheap, and from a brand I recognise. I cant adequately describe the improvement I am enjoying, and to anyone that is wondering if its worth it, go for it. A full restart now takes 25 seconds, the desktop loads in an instant, programs and windows search are very snappy, its awesome. About Windows, how to do it I personally went with a fresh install, rather than trying to copy old junk to my new drive. To people that are afraid to do it, its simpler than you would think. Go to Microsofts Create Windows 10 installation media page, and run the tool. You would need an empty pen drive. Its all next, next, and it will create a bootable drive out of your pen drive. After you backup all your important files, take out your old HDD, put in the new one, plug in the bootable flash, and switch on your laptop. Since the hard drive is empty, your machine will find the first bootable drive, which would be that pen drive, and from then on out its just a next, next installer again. Its important to note that most people have their windows licence digital on their Microsoft account. If thats the case, you do not need to enter any licence key during installation, and once you log in to your windows when Cortana prompts you after installation, everything should be working as normal. To check if your windows is activated with a digital license, open the settings app, and search for Activation Settings you should see Windows is activated with a digital licence linked to your Microsoft account.. Of course make sure that you remember your usernameemail and password.

From what Ive read, it should be readingwriting closer to 300 MBs minus a small for overhead and resistance and stuff… so this concerns me a bit that this drive might be one of those bottom of the barrel drives and even if I had a SATA III mobo, itd still underperform. Instead of deducting 2 eggs here, I can only deduct one so far due to its underperformance via SATA II. After a lot of testing, it seems to write faster than it reads. This is something that some people encounter with SSDs so now I am one of them. Everyone should always deduct one eggstar for these RETAIL drives if they come with no mounting screws. That would help send a clear message to manufacturers to stop being greedy. Actually, we should always deduct a point for their incorrect storage size calculation, too, until the industry as a whole stops with that insanity. As a single consumer, I feel powerless to wake people up so that effective changes can be made which will benefit all consumers in the end. Sigh…

I put this SSD in my friends old Acer laptop. Id upgraded her memory to 8gb last year but Windows 10 still ran horribly. When her Hitatchi 5400 RPM SATA drive she wanted to scrap the whole laptop. So I went and grabbed this very decent but nicely priced SanDisk SSD Plus and BOOM Her laptop runs like a dream now. Finally. Its like a new laptop and she is very happy. She doesnt do any gaming, just web surfing, and she keeps her files on an external so this SSDs specs were sufficient for those needs.

The SanDisk Plus 240 is by far the best Consumer level drive Ive had yet. Im sure there are faster drives out there, especially when you go into the performance series SSDs, but for the entry level, low cost, consumer level drives, this one is the best Ive owned so far. Ive had ADATA, PNY Optima, Mushkin Chronos, Mushkin ECO2, and Kingston V300 series. Ive had the 120GB and 240GB versions on each. Consistently, the 240GB versions outperform their 120GB counter parts, most likely due to more memory pathways on the board for the controller to access. But the SANDisk is the first one that actually reaches any advertised speed. Sequential Read tests run at 550MBs as advertised. Sequential Writes hit around 400MBs. The next closest to that speed in the list above is the PNY Optima and the ADATA which are right around 350MBs Seq Read, and of course it just goes down from there. And yes, the SANDisk out performs the others in every test category on CrystalDisk, ATTO, and my own filecopy tests. Another great quality about SANDisk Plus is that it has the Sanitize feature. Ok, this might be a small thing, but NONE of the other entrylevel drives listed support the Sanitize feature, which imho should be standard on ALL SSDs. For those who dont know, the sanitize bit is like an instant Data Wipe for an SSD. Connect it as a secondary drive, or boot to the Sandisk BootUSB easily created with their SSD utility and with one click you permanently erase all data on the drive. Sanitizing prevents data recovery completely. All around a much better drive than any other manufacture is offering at this price point.

I decided to replace my 1TB X300 which was one year old with this new X400 1TB. Just used Acronis to clone and installed into my desktop. Seamless and effortless. Running Asus Z170AR and I7 6700K DDR4 3200. Took my 1 year old X300, performed a secure erase on the Sandisk Dashboard and clones it into a new laptop I purchased that had 1 1TB 5400 mechanical spinner. Again, used Acronis and voila, all is well and the 5 year warranty and easy Sandisk replacement adds value.

Get this if its the only local option that is in your price range. I bought this for the sole purpose of being a boot drive for the O.S. and a few key applications in my newest desktop build. It was running beside a 3tb desktop drive which was used primarily for storage. Ten days after completing my build, and maximizing all my components, I was running a Valley Benchmark which was contained on the SSD to give it a slight edge in performance. When the results populated, I left it running for full stability checks on the system. Within 5 minutes there was a fatal crash on the drive, and the system was forced into a loop boot where it would not post. I attempted to repair the boot location using my windows 8.1 disk, but this failed. After 1 attempt, the drive was no longer recognized in Bios. After hot swapping to try and reset it, trying different power lines, different sata connection spots and cables, it would not recognize. I was forced to go out and buy a new SSD to use as a boot drive in order to recover my PC to where it was. Once I installed the new boot drive Pny 240 gb SSD C1110 it worked flawlessly. I then reattached the Sandisk drive in hopes to recover the information off of it, and was able to find it in disk manager, and likewise authorize the drive to recover the files. Ill keep this drive as a backup drive that keeps the PNY Duplicated in the system should I experience another SSD crash, but Im sad to see it happen to begin with. On a side note, the build quality of the PNY is excellent in a metal chassis versus the plastic housing of this Sandisk drive. And ended up costing 10 USD less thanks to a local sale.

This little 240Gb solid state drive delivers the same readwrite stats as more expensive drives, and at a lower price. Installation and setup were super easy, and Im very happy with the performance. Note that it does not come with migrationcloning software, but search for Macrium Reflect for an excellent free one. Also, the drive doesnt come with an adapter for your 3.5 drive bay, but for a PC you can let it sit in the bottom of your case. Also note this is the SSD Plus, not the Ultra II.

I ordered two of these. One to go in a 5 year old Acer Aspire 722 netbook that seemed like it was on the verge of a HDD failure. I cloned the drive with a USB 3.0 combo enclosure and 3port hub and Macrium Reflect. The upgrade went smoothly. I didnt notice a huge performance increase like many folks will describe when going from a HDD to an SSD, but it is a 5 year old netbook. I wasnt expecting miracles. I intended to use the second one as a boot drive on an older desktop, but was having problems getting my new laptop to recognize the Crucial SSD I bought to swap into it. Keeps coming up with a Hard Drive Locked message when installed and wont boot. Trying to rule out a hardware issue, I tried the clone onto the SanDisk. it never showed up as a removable storage device in Explorer or as a second drive in Macrium or Acronis. I can put another drive in the enclosure and verify that its not the enclosure. It picks up other drives just fine. I sent the SanDisk back to Newegg with a replacement request. Id really like to use it. Got the new one and it does the same thing. I cant tell that its even trying to work. It never gives any indication that its working at all, except that the computer bings when I connect it to the USB port. At this point, I think Im going to request a refund and try a different drive altogether. Neweggs return service was very good, though. Quick and kept me informed through every step of the process.

This is a great item….very reasonable and great bang for the buck. Installed easily into older Macbook Pro, with no issue whatever. Its very fast….even despite connection to older SATA II. My favorite thing is that its silent…it throws nearly no heat at all…and even when Im running HiRes heavy Photoshop Illustrator simultaneously, the machine fans rarely have to kick on, even in the Texas heat. When they do, its maybe 30 or 45 seconds to cool the machine. Haha…its almost eerily quiet. If youre a Mac user….my 20 year MacOnly user opinion is this is the SSD for you. I gave this unit and seller a perfect 5 stars….and Im very happy with my purchase. It was a great deal….cant wait til SSDs come down even more so I can buy the TB model.

Adding an SSD to an older laptop will breath new life into old hardware. SanDIsk has an excellent reputation in the flash memory market. This has excellent performance, much better than a hard disk. One thing of note also is the warranty and return process. If this drive ever wears out you can return it for a replacement pretty easily.

I guess it will be hard for me to go back to using the older conventional hard drives after installing this SSD drive. It increased the speed of my desktop computer noticeably. I decided on a SanDisk SSD drive because I was satisfied with their flash drives and memory cards that I have bought in the past.

I installed this to house the root partition of my Ubuntu desktop, leaving swap, var, tmp, and home folders on a traditional HDD. I left these things on the HDD to prevent unnecessary writes to the SSD not sure if thats a real problem these days, but better safe than sorry and because my home folders hold a huge amount of media. The boot, suspend, resume, and program load times on my system are now nothing short of miraculous. OS benchmarks on the SSD show near zero seek time and sustained full SATA III transfer rates. Out of the package it feels like a toy, but it performs like a monster. I have never used a desktop that was so fast.My only regret is that, for my configuration, the SSD has too much capacity. With a full set of image editing, publishing and development tools on my system, Im using less than 7GB of this 240 GB SSD. I could have saved myself 25 by getting the 120GB model and still had oodles of storage to spare.

Easy to install, using the same fittings as the previous movingparts drive. Lighter in weight and performance is improved Windows 10 operating system is ready to use after only 15 seconds from turnon. The Windows installation uses about 24 GB of storage, leaving ample space for my needs on the 240 GB drive. The only drawback is cost the original drive was 1 TB, about four times the capacity of the new SSD. A replacement 1 TB movingparts drive could be had for the same cost as this 240 GB SSD.

Its fast for sure, but did not survive a firmware update Became an unmountable boot volume. Cant even use it as a door stop Sandisk was willing to replace, but they wanted the bad drive back. Not sending a drive back with all kinds of personal data they keys to bank accounts and such Ill have to eat it and try again… maybe a different brand

Fits perfectly as a replacement to the old hard disk. The laptop accepted it straight away as a new drive. Less noise, more efficient. It is fast but this might be because of the new Windows 10 build

Excellent product works really well. A lot faster than the old drive. Postage a tad slow, but would recommend this product and picstop.

Really speeded up an old laptop, even though the laptop was only SATA II. Definitely worth it if you want to breathe life into an older PC.
