Although its very pricy, its very small, lightweight, and very easy to use. It works great as a backup drive for my laptop and desktop PCs
Gary –
Small, rugged and fast And I love that it attaches to a carabiner. Absolutely perfect product.
Anonymous –
This is a solid, fast SSD and is worth the price In case your host device doesnt have USBC, beware of knock off USBC Female to USBA Male adapters as they will drop your transfer speeds significantly. I purchased one of these adapters at another online merchant and was only getting about 37mbps transfers on a USB 3.0 port.
Ram –
I got this one as a gift from my girlfriend. The form factor is tiny. Shock proof, water proof, rugged build. Best data transfer speed. Best in class SSD.
KSlate –
this is my go to external now so fast i can load and and all of my sample libraries and steam libraries music and gaming with easeunless you wanna spend 1000s of dollars on some RAID drives this is the best youre gonna getSanDisk for the win
Rich –
The Extreme Pro SSDs have become my goto editing hard drives. Markedly faster than the Extreme Portable, the Extreme Pro Portable allows me to edit 4K footage with no lag. Big fan of these drives
Ricardo –
As a video editor, Im constantly looking for better ways to store client footage.Though not cheap, this solution works great for my specific needs of editing lots of footage without worrying about how much space I have left on my system. This lets store and edit all my client footage from one location. I use the smaller 2TB drives as back ups for current client projects.I love that I can take my footage with me and edit on the go with my MacBook Pro if I need to, without skipping a beat.It should go without saying, but you need a Thunderbolt cable to get the most speed out of this puppy.
gadgetguy11 –
This is an ideal hard drive for either MacOS or Windows OS. I reformatted it so it would have much greater capacity on MacOS. I gained approximately 850GB Seriously, This 2TB HD only had 1.15TB capacity out of the box Also, out of the box, folders did not show the number of files or the file sizes. Now that is solved. I formatted as APFS. I connect via USB 3.0 my photos upload download quickly. I am connected to a Mac Pro Desktop. This is a rugged, extremely well built hard drive. It operates cool never overheats. I highly recommend it.
Jbnickel4 –
Needed a new external hard drive and wanted to go SSD. Recommended by friends and really happy. Awesome speed and reliability.
Tapas –
It is so portable but not speed as it say that is all about my concern. i wish it meet as it say in details… it say 2000mbs Read and Write but when i check it says below 1000RW… from both blackmagic and crystal apps… also say it wont support 10bit 2160p50 and 2160p60
Bradley –
This is my 3rd SanDisk SSD. So far my experience with this drive and the Extreme Portable has been great. The drives are small, easy to stash, fast and reliable. The hole on the edge of the drive is useful to lash it to gear. Thats a nice advantage over the Samsung. However, the measure of a drive is how it holds up over time. Perhaps I can come back with a 5 star rating in the future.
JaxonsDad02 –
I was looking for an external storage solution to free up my hard drive space and to also serve as a physical backup for my items in the cloud. At 2 TB, this SSD was exactly what I was looking for. Its small size makes it great because I can take it with me. Im more than happy with this. Two thumbs up
Rich –
Purchased the SSD drive to back up my new decked out 16 MacBook Pro. It works perfectly and has reduced back up elapsed time significantly. Only regret is I wish I would have purchased the 2 TB model.
Isa –
I have used it couple of times until know, but it is blazing fast when connected to my 16 Macbook Pro. I loved it and currently I am putting all of my lightroom catalogs in it and i cant feel the difference when using it vs the built in SSD
Morad –
Purchased this to backup my music and photos on my Mac Pro 2012 with USB3 card installed. It worked flawlessly and fast No error and no unexpected dismount from the desktop had bad experience with Samsung T7. I wished it had a status light but not a deal breaker.
John –
I own a bunch of the 12TB drives and Im glad to finally have a larger one. Theyre reliable and fast. The price seems reasonable for what they are.
Anonymous –
Nice and lightweight and much smaller than originally thought which is nice for portabilitys sake
BobbyJ37 –
Works great as a backup drive for my laptop and its sooo much faster than using an external HDD. Literally couldnt get a better deal for it when I did, almost 150 off
Gustavo J. –
Did a speed test on the drive and readwrite speeds were under 1000MBs less than half of advertised max on a MacBook Pro via USB C. Disappointing for the premium price I paid. Is it worth the money
Frank –
I now have two of these drives for travel storage. They are small, lightweight and easy to set up
David –
The port appears to have been manufactured with a male connection instead of a female…so bizarre
Obed –
This is an amazing portable hard drive. It is fast, fast, fast. I use it to edit video. I plug it into my Mac and edit video thats on the drive and export it directly to the drive. The read and write speak is fast and I dont notice any delays.A little pricey, but well worth it.
Jefelos –
Excellent. Exactly as advertised as far as I can tell. Will update if significant.
Matheus –
IVE BOUGHT A SANDISK EXTREME REGULAR FEW MONTHS AGO, BUT THIS ONE IS TOO BETTER. 1GBS WOW AMAZING
Eadweard –
Incredible I bought this hard drive to back up my new film that Im doing titled Yaruki Thanks for the plug for my film hahaThe film file is 1.69TB FCP file and this beautifully designed and very tiny hard drive Downloaded it in 45 minutes which is Awesome I was using a Lacie Rugged 5TB and it was taking 810 hours to download so this SanDisk rips through it in no time.So happy I bought this and I will probably buy another one.
TechNeck55 –
I own both the SanDisk V1 10 Gbs, 2020 and the V2 20 Gbs, 2021 versions of the Extreme Pro 2TB and love the performance and reliability. Even better, it doesnt get extremely hot like some other portable SSDs. The case and associated cooling system are extremely well designed. I also own a pair of Crucial x8 1 TB 10 Gbs portable SSDs but the Crucial units get so hot that you cant even touch them This cannot be good for the SSDs longevity. Also, when these ultrafast SSDs hit high temperatures they will throttle down the speed by a tremendous amount which is what I have experienced with my Crucial x8 units. I have never encountered high temperature throttledown problems with my Sandisk Extreme Pro units even when transferring very large multiGB files. These SanDisk ultrafast portable SSDs are the best on the market, IMHO. Just be sure to use the proper cabling and use a USBC port on your PC for the fastest speed. If you do use an adapter cable for a USBA port, be careful how the USBC cable coming from the SSD is plugged into it. Sometimes you need to turn the USBC cable around 180 degrees before plugging it into the USBA adapter to get the top speeds.
Robert –
Very fast and sleek external SSD. Im using it for my PS5 even though it outperforms the readwrite speeds capable on the system. It was plug and play with no issues.
ACCOUNTS –
Works very well. The first one came in and did not work but they sent out a new one right away and it works perfect
Brandon –
Editing 4k footage form multiple different camera in fcpx and just never stops fcpx from doing anything at all I highly recommend it.
Bill –
Great little SSD. Paper included unreadable due to tiny print. Unable to find any use instructions on Sandisk website.
NightFOX –
Love it Love it Love it If you never use SSD Solid State Drive, this will change your life. Its so fast Your jump drive and other hard drives will look like dinosaurs. This is lightning fast. The upload and download speed is insane. I got things done in half the amount of time. If time is money, this thing will save you a lot of money. The case is durable and waterproof. Its compact and easy to carry. It fits in my pants pocket. I dont really like the USB cord that comes with the SSD.Downsize The price Its too expensive. I would wait for a sale. If you could get this for 150175, go for it. Its a great deal. Speaking of speed, the biggest thing that you have to beware of is the type of port that you have. For instance, if you have Apple Macbook AirPro with M1 or Mac Mini with M1, this will only go up to 600MBsec, not 2000MBsec as advertised. Apple port only supports USB 3.1. If you want to maximize the speed, you should get an adapter. Because of the port speed and if you use M1 laptop or desktop, I would recommend getting SanDisk Pro, not the Extreme Pro. Its cheaper and performance is about the same since the M1 does not have a proper port.
Timothy –
I bought this for dive traveling, which has been nil since there is a pandemic. But I can really see how handy this will be in the future. It is really small and thin. I could carry it is a shirt pocket. I have tried some video transfers with it and it is fast and efficient, great for transferring image and video files at days end. So far, the experience has been excellent. It seems to warm up quickly but it is not overly hot. I also like the rubber base and the ability to hang it from something is handy in tight quarters, like those found on a ship. So ar, great product.
Barry –
There have been a lot of reviews on here of people being upset that they are getting around 1000 MBs readwrite speeds and not the 2000 MBs promised. The reason for this is that no computers have hardware that can utilize the newest USB form USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 which this hard drive uses. If you want to see 2k MBs you are going to need to buy a Yottamaster C5 for your PC. If you have a mac just stick with thunderbolt 3.
Steve –
This is my 2nd Extreme Pro. The 1st is a 500MB. I was using it for video processing, saving everything to the external. Works so well that when I wanted more storage I bought the 1TB, and converted the 500MB to a backup that my MacBook can start from. Used CC Cloner to create the 500MB backup, and now the 1TB is my everyday video drive. If you have a MacBook with a USBC port, you will be very happy with the incredible speed of these SSds
GearBrand –
Hands down the best hard drive Ive ever had. No reformatting or software required. Just plug it in and go. Plus its the fastest hard drive for transfer speed Ive used to date. AND it fits in my pocket
Matthew –
Truly an extraordinary product that leads the industry in nearly every way. Holding 4TB in a tiny, featherweight device hardly larger than a credit card is still baffling to me still, weeks later. The tour de force continues when you plug it in. This thing tears through enormous files in seconds. Gigabytes fly by at a seemingly impossible rate, turning hours into minutes and minutes into just seconds. Youll need a fast computer and a fast USBC plug to enjoy that speed. My 2018 MacBook Pro with Thunderbolt 3 enjoys this external SSD at full throttle. Yes, its expensive. No, its not as invulnerable as the LaCie Rugged pro half the capacity. But the cost of futureproof technological azimuth is worth it, isnt it Whats the value of your time and sanity
acarlsonent –
This SanDisk SSD portable hard drive is very fast, as long as you plug it in to a usb3 port. The build quality is great, it has a aluminum and rubberized chassis, which looks good as well. The drive comes formatted as FAT 32, but you can format it yourself to meet your needs.
Soobie99 –
Wow this thing downloads and uploads FAST And its pocket sized
Jun –
I have finally done some research and found out the necessary educational information about this drive. This drive is capable to do 20Gbps, which is twice of 10Gbps typically offered by USB3.2 Gen 2. However, it requires the host to support this USB 3.2 2×2 standard. Such support currently is not widespread only a few PCIE card on desktop support it.Now onto Mac community. Most modern Mac including my new Mini M1, supports what they call Thunderbolt 3 USB 4, which supports 40Gbps if you use Thunderbolt 3, or 10Gbps if its USB 4 which is a rebrand of USB 3.2, which is not required to support this particular USB 3.2 2×2 performance standard. So, in summary, you can buy this drive, which is really solid. You just in the majority of the cases, will be limited by 10Gbps. This exactly why you will see most users report Blackmagic scores of 900M Bps or so. Its not possible to go above 1000M Bps in this context while if you do have the right host, it can reach 1500M to 1700M Bps.Rate it as fourstar for this reason.

Nice product, great haptic, excellent readwrite performance on my MacBook Pro with USBC
Anonymous –
It worked perfectly well. The backup took a few hours for 1Tetra but the restore was within one hour. All my data was there using Time machine.
Fredda –
I love this drive. Its small, light and stays connected to the computer even if i accidentally let go of it while walking around with my laptop. I dont know how much faster it is then the slower SSD drive but its fast.
David –
After reading Mark Sparrows superb Forbes article on how to revive an old computer with the SanDisk Extreme Pro Portable SSD, I ordered the 2TB version from B H. It was effortless to set up as the new startup and storage disc following widely available YouTube videos on the process, and now my tired old 2015 iMac is blazingly fast in every respect. It was never this fast even right out of the box. Although 1TB seemed enough at the time, I didnt want to take the chance, and now Im glad that I ordered the 2TB version because in two short weeks, I blew right past 1TB. Another nice feature is that the B H SanDisk comes with two cables USC to USC and USB to USB rather than a converter. And its so small and lightweight. So for 350 I essentially got a new computer instead of having to spend almost ten times that to replace it.
Simeon –
So fast… so so fast. 512GB in 15 min Other drives were taking me 2.5 hours even with usb 3.1 and 7200rpm. This have made life so much easier when I need to dump a lot of data fast.
Scott –
I work with large video files and wanted a drive that could move the data fast. With ProRes 4444 video files from an Arri Alexa I needed a drive that could keep the data flowing. The speed of this SSD is amazing. I got a great price for it on sale. These SSDs are also very highly rated. This SSD has not disappointed me.
Daniel –
Wow this thing is tiny. It is weird. It is kind of like having a minitruck with the payload of a gigantic industrial dump truck with tires as large as a house. Except that it is also fast. So, a giant dump truck with a twin turbojet engine that does zero to sixty in three seconds.
Justin –
Extremely fast. Just ensure your computer has the appropriate ports to handle the most up to date USB technology. Many will not be able to take advantage of the full speed of this drive.
Mikeee –
I purchased this drive for its speed and able to read a lot of information fast. It does the job very well . This is a nice fast hard drive. A lot faster than most SSD drives.
Mark –
I did some read and write tests with the extreme non pro SSD V2 and this one clearly is quite a bit faster. Small size is great for my computer or camera bag.
Ramon –
love the compact size have not bought one of these in a couple of years I was surprised on how much they have shrunk
FRANK –
I replaced an external hard drive as my back up drive. This is smaller, faster, and does not require an external power supply. It was delivered quickly and worked straight out of the box.
Stafford –
I bought this one to replace a 1TB SanDisk. If this one as good as the 1TB I will be completely satisfied. Also I was able to get it on sale, which made it even better.
Anthony –
What do you say about a hard drive, it writes fast, its small, and the materials are high quality. The orange bit is actually machine aluminum.
Jasper –
I love this drive Im a 4K 6K video editor and this little drive really delivers. Great for moving large projects from the studio to a remote working environment. I edit on a MacBook Pro, I love how this drive doesnt disconnect on me like other USBCthunderbolt 3 drives. Being able to connect to USB and move files is a huge plus. Youre not trapped to only using thunderbolt 3. Super fast
Souvik –
The storage is good, I was not able to use the max speed in my laptop. not sure the cause. it was only working for 1000mbps not 2000mbps.
Willy –
I bought this for use as an external drive on my MacBook … I put a FinalCut Pro Library on it, so I wanted speed. Its good in that regard, its fast, very compact, and reliable so far. Its nice that they provide both a USBC to USBC cable as well as USBC to USBA. Little pricey, but when BH has it on special, its reasonable.
Garay –
This is Exactly what you need when Run out of space either way it can use on ps5 or Xbox, reliable, safe and speed its amazing not lagging no delays wow
Matthew B. –
These Sandisk drives are very well made, small, and all around quality hardware. I have several of the V1 models and decided to step up to the V2 because, who doesnt want to double their speed, right I tried with multiple rigs, high quality cables, and never got more than the 1,066Mbs speeds I obtained with the V1 drives. Im sorry Sandisk, I really wanted it to work, I promise In the end, I returned it. I think I cried a little bit when I put it in the box.
Eric –
Small in size but fast for a USB SSD backup drive. Did not get hot during a complete hard drive backup. Made a first time 500 GB bootable backup using an iMac in just under 9 minutes.
Karlheinz P. –
I replaced an older external drive with this one. The thing that stood out was the speed differential between the two drives.
David –
Small and compact, easily fits in your pocket. Works very well, fast, silent. Stays cool while working. I highly recommend this product.
Yoshinori –
I have been using hard disks for back up but I was frustrated with them due to their slow speed, so I purchased SSD and I am so glad I did. It is so small and light I can put in my pocket and carry around and still have 2TB. It is expensive but I am thinking to buy 2nd one already. Highly recommend.
Mark –
I have several of these SSDs. They are very fast, portable and reliable. The included connector can be used with USB2 and USBC
Levon –
Just got mine and although I havent yet had a chance to properly put it to the test my computer is a bit dated at 3 to 4 years old, it works great so far. Really love the build and form factor
Marco –
These things are fast, rugged and reliable. No issues at all. I have a pair of these and a pair of the 2tb all good.
Jorge –
This drive held all of my sound libraries in my mobile studio, so it was only used every so often. Today I found out that it has completely died. While it did work really well during its very short life, not lasting an entire year of only being used a couple of dozen times definitely lands a two star. I treated this drive with the utmost care and protection, it was my favorite SSD that I owned because of its speed. It really bites seeing it not work anymore. This is why it is important to always have multiple back ups of the exact same drive for immediate replacements.
Walter –
This drive really shows how speedy a USBC external SSD can be. When Im using it to back up my files, I often see speeds in excess of 1 GBs, even with the drive formatted using NTFS. The drive itself is solid, and leaves the impression of durability. Cant say that Ive tossed it off the roof or dropped it in the loo to test it, but its obviously wellbuilt. Worth the money, especially when its on a good sale.
Anthony –
With the cost of SSD coming down, Ive been slowly replacing my external hard drives with SSD counterparts. Not only are they bus powered, but also they are significantly faster and super compact. I always buy SanDisk because Ive have twodecadelong perfect record using their SD cards in my camera.
FullHardDrive –
Needed new portable SSD for photos and new USB 3.2 Gen 2 TypeC NVMe SSD is super fast relative to previous generations. It is expensive and when i tried to get a price match two days after my purchase at 169.99 after i purchased mine for 200.99 they said not in stock, no match.
Hugh –
Fast and great for travel due to the Durability design. Dropped it many times and still works like a champ.
Brian –
Small, lightweight. Awesome companion for travelVery fast Backups are much quicker than with mechanical drives
Title17 –
Super fast storage with no worries about moving parts failing. Makes my automated backups via Time Machine zoom by. I wish larger drives would come available, especially at reasonable prices, but for now this is the SSD to get.
Timothy –
I bought this to transfer video files from my computer…superfast So much faster than the previous ten, worth the upgrade and cost. Keep your stuff backedup creatives
Christopher L. –
Small but large The small physical size makes it easy to carry and the large memory makes it great for storing everything.
Joellen –
I wanted something smaller than my passport drives with lots of space for backing up photographs while traveling. Nice sleek design. Small but high capacity.
ToneDeff4Eff –
Works solid but I have had a few issues where the drive was in limbo and needed to be disconnected and reconnected. Also have rare instances that while running a game off the drive, the game will freeze up briefly. Not sure what to think. Might just be a bad drive otherwise good.
John –
Amazingly small and compact. And Fast Cant wait to really use the heck outta this in the field.
Lorenzo –
I bought this to help speed up my editing process. I tend to edit with 4k and 6k video and all of my drives were struggling before I used this one. Now playback runs super smooth
Jason –
The drive arrived fast even with COVID19 Shipping issues. Worked without issue the moment I plugged it in. It has made a significant improvement in my consoles load times. In other words, it is working just as I had hoped it would
Anonymous –
My best external drive so far. Fast writing 950 mbsec and reading saves a lot of time for frequent transferring 1.5 Tb from PC.
Gameaddict007 –
You should investigate transfer speeds if you arent sure what your computer or laptop can handle. This thing is capable of 20 Gbps I have a Microsoft Surface Book 2, and I checked it out, as well as the Surface Book 3, and both of them dont even have the up to date descriptions of the data ports. And I was looking on Microsofts website even Ill try to explain but you might do better researching for yourself anyway. But basically, the fastest youll get out of a Surface Book 2 is going to be 5 Gbps, and the fastest youll get from a Surface Book 3 is 10 Gbps. Anything that is USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 Gen 2, is now USB 3.2 Gen 1, or SuperSpeed 5 Gbps. Anything that is USB 3.1 or USB 3.1 Gen 2, is now USB 3.2 Gen 2, or SuperSpeed 10 Gbps. And both of those can be USBA or USBC ports. The next one can only be USBC and has to be that on both ends. But anything that was USB 3.2, is now USB 3.2 Gen 2×2, or SuperSpeed 20 Gbps. Beyond that, anything that is USB4 Gen 2×2, is now considered USB4 20Gbps. And anything that is USB4 Gen 3×2, is now considered USB4 40 Gbps. You can see why you might want to research this stuff yourself just to be sure, lol. Needless to say though, if your machine wont be able to transfer as quick as this thing will allow, you will at least have something that you can be sure wont be obsolete this time next year.
SamZ –
Work very fast and easy to handle. Work well during travel. No issue I see so far with this SSD
Jun –
Fast and convenient. However I cannot get above 1000Mbps on my Mac mini m1. Not sure if its the cable or its something else…
Doug –
I use this editing video on a laptop. I can edit 4k andor multiple streams of 1080p. Small, no power required, fast.
Franklin –
I am using this to clone a rather large home directory and provide me some scratch space to do some other work. Using Carbon Copy Cloner, the times are on par with other NVMe drives as it is limited by the USBC connection on my MacBook Pro.
Anonymous –
It is a fast ssd that allow me to transfer my data faster than other ssd, will do more test outside to see if it can handle rough environment.
Andrew –
Works great so far. Im getting around 920 MBs reading and writing which in my experience is pretty good considering the advertised speeds. It feels really great in the hand, and Im hoping to get a lot of life out of it.
David –
Its fast, its quiet, its sturdy and you forget that its even there. I use mine for audio sample libraries, mostly Native Instruments. On a MacBook Pro with 64GB of RAM and Thunderbolt its sooooooo fast.. like really really fast to load multiples of plugins, its not even funny. No lagtime. So happy with this purchase. Thanks BH
Doc –
super fast drive and has made it easier to carry important data back and forth from onsight locations back to the studio. Im less worried about the connection with this drive than I am with any of my other drives. Ive yet to run into an issue where the slightest bump will jiggle the cord and disconnect the drive. Have had issues with WD and Seagate spinning portable drives in the past.
Eric –
Its super easy to put in your backpack, and still feel safe with it great build quality. The transfer speeds are crazy fast
Ken –
Ideal size, great speed, durable and easy to transport. Ive only used a short time and hoping it will last without issue. Using for Video Editing, especially when I need to travel with a project to a client etc.
Tracy –
this is exactly what is required to get the job done without issues. Its the best inthefield HDD Ive found to date. Essentialhighspeed transfers 550MBs read speeds. Small, compact reliable, durable rugged, water and dust resistant, this is exactly what is required to deliver video and high resolution photos quick. It also looks cool.
Scott –
Very simple to connect up and store files just what I needed for my new MAC laptop ,,,, elegant, powerful, and easy to use.
PIOTR –
I give 5 Stars for a product, and 3 stars for USB confusion…I tested this with iMac 27 2017 previous version of this drive which I also own 2TB SSD 1050MBsSpeed I get Write Speed 916MBs Read Speed 941 MBs…2TB SSD V2 2000MBs Speed I get Write Speed 936MBs Read Speed 944 MBsI really like this drive. Thats why I bought my second drive V2 version, but keep in mind that you need USB 3.2 GEN. 2×2 in your Machine hopefully there is more laptops with this type of USB in 2021 3 Stars for USB confusion from BH and many others sources and 5 stars for Sandisk SSD is just very nice driveBH customer told me1 this SSD will work with Macbook M1 at its full speed and Those ports work at full speed with USB Type C Gen 2 devices 10Gbps and at full speed 40Gbps for Thunderbolt 3 devices2 If the device is USB 4 then it works at up to 20Gbps. The SanDisk Extreme Pro can read and write at up to 2000MBs which is possible with these portsSandisk Customer Service Please be informed that you need a 3.2 gen2x2 port on a computer to get speed upto 2000MBs on a type C port the speed would be around 1050MBs
Philip –
Nice vault security included. Small, portable and fast access. Initial feedback poor, but once confirmed, things moved fast.
Dr Steven –
Now that SanDisk has brought out this version of their SSD, I have moved all of my photos and Lightroom catalog to this drive and have it connected full time. Works well and fast enough that it is a good alternative to using the internal SSD that came with my MacBook Pro
Tomsdiner39 –
Great purchase, using as an external drive on Mac mini M1 and so far so good. Fast access to my dropbox files.
Preston –
What you would expect of a quality SSD, nothing more nothing less.
Yaakov –
Its a small device that can hold huge amounts of data. Nice design and well built. But most important, its super fast Recommend purchase.
John –
Doesnt work as presented. Uploading is not any faster. Also the video editing is not any faster, betterif used just ordinary external drive i.e. WD My Bookor WD Elements external drive 6, 8, 10 or 12 TB.Just wasting money
Mariana –
BH si The best shop, all the time I need something they have it in the best time and the they have the best price. Thanks BH
Gregory –
It is light and easy to travel with. Its 2TB which is the biggest Ive ever bought and will need with cloud storage backup. It was the perfect answer to my storage solutions as Im in between two Macs one with old ports and one with new USB ports. It comes with both cables so I pulled the trigger and this made my life easier to keep the photos flowing.
James C. –
This device works superbly. I use it to transfer data between computers as well as to backup critical information. It is small, easy to carry, and has huge storage capacity.
Beezpuck –
I travel around the world with this. Use this for backing my Macbook Pro 15 and I have another one to save my data from my other computers. Backing up and file transfer are lightning quick. My partner accidentally spilled coffee on it and it still works without a hitch. The size is very small too which makes it easy to carry. I also carry this around with my photography kit as I am also a photographer. Perfect for multiple use applications. Highly recommended for IT professional and also photographers.
Jusdoit –
Very good expansion for my PS5. The quality is very good. Functions just as spec states.
Shaun –
Its a solid build, fast, nice drive. Nothing negative to mention yet, working as expected.
William –
Easy peasy. Plugged it into my Mac and just loaded files onto it. Very user friendly.
Sushrut –
fits in my palm and gives me almost 1.5 GBPS of transfer speeds using thunderbolt 3 cables. Cant ask for more. I have a new favorite portable SSD
teapot110 –
A very good well built drive, light and sturdy. Great for store and fast, highly recommended.

Simple review excellent HD, super fast on USBc and reliable. I have it attached to a Mac mini as my Lightroom drive for my photography hobby. It replaces a 500 gb version that is now my backup drive for my laptop. Both are fantastic.
Happy0701 –
Love it Very portable and I can back everything up to it with awesome speed
Peter –
This is a fast SSD but like other SSDs I found the write speed slows down drastically once the drive is close to half full. Next time I will consider the larger drive.
Javier –
I am using this disk with a MacBook Pro. I partitioned it so I can use it as two disks. One partition is for Time Machine backups, and the other partition is for regular storage. This is a great portable solidstate device. I have only good things to say about it. Its fast, durable, portable, and looks great. I highly recommended it.
Randy –
A very nice, small and portable solid state drive Not sure if its any faster than my portable western digital hard drives
Saleh –
I take it coz im photo editing and vedio editor. I put every item on my project on it, very fast. I need another one at soon
Guy –
This is whats my PS5 was screaming for. Super fast read speed
Tyler –
Storage and a quick readwrite speed. Very portable for on the go jobs. Without one my laptop just wouldnt do the trick.
Arun –
I bought this for use as a work drive for video editing in Final Cut Pro, and it turns out to be perfect for that. It feels just as fast as the internal SSD, and is small enough that it doesnt clutter up my desk.
campbelld –
This external solid state drive is incredibly fast for a nonthunderbolt ssd drive. In my opinion the thunderbolt drives are finicky so I welcome a 2TB drive that works well on a MAC and a PC. I recommend this especially if you want to edit videos and keep your videos on this drive instead of taking up precious space on your internal hard drive. I have had no problems with it.
Kaimana –
Its smaller than it looks. Light, super fast as advertised and very solid build. It does turn into a hand warmer with heavy use, but no big deal. I do wish the underside was plastic like the top and not that satin rubber stuff. If you travel and need to carry backups on your person this is ideal, it also comes with security software that encrypts your data.

This little thing its just amazing and fast, transferring photos and 4K footage to my computer its just faster than before when I was using other portable drives. You wont regret if you decide to buyout
Mariel –
I bought this SSD because I needed a faster workflow and faster transport speeds. This SSD works extremely great and I love the size and feel of it. 1010 would recommend this one over the others
Barrie –
This drive is as advertised. It is rugged and fast and gives the peace of mind of being an SSD. I use these drives for backup shoot storage and am tired of spinning disk version which eventually stop spinning. As I make several backups I seldom lose anything these days when external disks fail but these give that extra safety margin. Expensive, but so are photoshoots.
Joy N –
Light weight and fast. Got this for my M1 Mac. And this is the best choice I made. Faster computer needs faster transfer.
Paco –
Very much regret this purchase. Transfers individual files fast but is unable to handle multi file transfers.
Anonymous –
Fast, reliable, smaller than my wallet and has a nice metal finish… just love it
CVtex –
The SanDisk 1TB memory storage is useful, convenient, fairly priced and just the right size.
Brett –
Its a great little ssd. I have it hooked up to a 3.2 gen 2 usb connection and Im only getting 1Gbps is my only complaint. The description said it is supposed to get 2Gbps
Gary –
Works perfectly, so far. Easy to set up and use.NO MOVING PARTS. Comes complete and instructionsactually make sense. It is my backup. Replaces failedSeagate unit.
Jb –
I needed a fast external drive to store videos captured from different sources. This SSD holds everything and transferssaves files super fast.It connects to the iPad Pro newest version with one cable. No connectors or additional power sources needed.
Michel –
Amazing Red camera Filmmaker This is a magical device. We set it up to use stored redraw data, for RedcineXpro, Scratch 9.0 Assimilate and FCP 10.5.Amazing Immediately the speed, render and ease of working on iMac, Mac Pro was incredibly improved.
Tyler –
This piece of gear is just amazing super fast speeds its so small though. Like seriously its pocket sized. Will buy more. I wanted something portable to be able to edit video and photos on the go and around the house while outside or in bed more family time and this is a game changer. Must have for anyone on the go. BH shipping and service is on par even through the covid slow down. Love it guys
Anonymous –
I bought this for my bf to use with his PS. Its worked well, and he likes that he can have all of his games without having to compromise space.
Jeff –
I love these small, sleek portable SSDs. This one is the fastest yet and works great for editing 4k video on my laptop from it. Wish I could get it in a 4TB verion
Harvey –
Better built than the Samsung SSD 2TB that I am using. Can stand the abuse in my camera case while travelling.
Marie –
4th one of this series of SSDs Ive ordered. Great product. Reliable, fast and durable. Go for it.
MIKE –
Product is rock solid and works great. I have owned these in the past and have been very pleased with their performance.
Gdale –
This drive is seriously fast. I read the reviews, and when I received it and tested it, did not disappoint. I am running apps and games from this thing with no hiccups or anything. Regular USB flash drives tested anywhere from 230mb40mb readwrite speed, this thing clocked at 9601000mb readwrite speedit honestly maxed out my USBC port, have not tested on the rated 20002000 read write bus speed yet I need a new computer
Anonymous –
Faster, smaller and compatible with Mac Windows, this portable drive is amazing.
Alexander –
Super cool and small 1 TB drive is the PRO worth 100 more than the Extreme. I can an afford it and Im more than extreme im an extreme PRO
Anonymous –
Great device Excellent readwrite speeds and storage. Light weight, portable. Needs a tiny led power light for onoff read out.
Mark –
This is my second SanDisk pro portable SSD. I like the design and the fact i can attach to my case if needed with a ring clamp to avoid loosing it. No complaints and always have had good outcomes with SanDisk products
Glenn –
What I like most about this portable SSD is I can transfer files between my MAC PC. The WD Passports would not allow me to do this so I had to use several jump drives for different tasks. The 1TB storage allows me to keep all tasks on the same SSD….and its much faster too.
Erik –
Out of the box the SSD is formatted with exFAT and will work on almost any computer. However, I reformatted to Apples APFS as I will only be using with macOS. The SSD is very compact, actually a bit smaller than I thought it would be, but that is fine as it tucks away in the camera bag easily. Build quality appears top notch. Performance is very fast. I tried it with both supplied cables ThunderboltThunderbolt and USBThunderbolt and 80 GB transferred to the drive quickly with both cables. The included cables are about a foot in length, which I like as there is less cable to pack in the camera bag. Just plan to keep the SSD right next to the computer when using it.
Vic –
The SanDisk 2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD V2performed as promised. Im a satisfied customer.
Davide –
Worth spending the extra money on this one over the slower previous generation.
Andy –
using this for my iPad Pro for video files. this is a great and fast portable ssd. highly recommend
Timothy –
Easy setup on my MacBook Pro. Looks well made. Compact. Highly recommended, would buy again.
NYSTRIP –
Excellent performance Excellent performance
mhardee1221 –
I bought this for extended storage on my PS5. Might be a little excessive but the capacity is great. This is small. I have not bought an external drive in probably 10 years. Price is up there. Its a good hard drive though. Fast and efficient. Would recommend buy on sale or wait unless you can afford it. In the mean time this works for all things PS4 that you want on your PS5.
Danton –
I use this ultrafast drive to play back samplebased music apps. Small portable and connects through Thunderbolt to my Macmini.
Paul –
This version, the SDSSDE812T00G25 has the same tested speeds as the previous version, the one rated at 1000 MBS.I am waiting for the feedback from Sandisk at the moment.I have tried thunderbolt 3 and other high speed cables, and the speed of this for both write and read, are the same as the 1000 MBS version, the one with model SDSSDE802T00
David –
Love it. Super fast, small form factor. SSD at its best. The Extreme Pro is a bit bigger than the Extreme only version.
Martin –
This external SSD ticks all the boxes. Extremely good performance and a housing capable of some wear and tear. This is a top choice of external SSDs.
Randy –
Works as advertised and flys through file transfers with ease. I reccomend getting the 1000 read write instead of the 500, a world of difference.
Sanman –
This ssd drive is fantastic I can edit video from my Mac right off this drive and save back to it. Super fast.
Stephen –
I purchased this drive to do photo and video editing on my 2021 iPad Pro 12.9 and it does an outstanding job Its just like I was using internal storage.
NICK –
Great product Super fast speeds and I love the small form factor. Its been very reliable so far
Hikaru –
Im using this for the virtual machines with VirtualBox. I dont feel any improvement in speed, even when resuming saved virtual machine.Size is larger than the predecessor model. Of course, the price is higher, too. Cable is longer and no USBC adapter therefore you may need to take 2 cables instead of 1. I just dont see a big advantage. However, if you constantly copy files back and forth, newer one may save time a bit. The price difference between 2 models is small enough to consider upgrade. Both models get very hot when using, but newer one may be slightly lower temperature. But it is just my feeling and I hope someone can compare sidebyside thoroughly.
JONATHAN –
No problems at all. Using it with Dell XPS 15 13 laptops to back up pictures and HD video on location. Will probably buy some 1TB versions when price comes down. Easy to travel with as can easily fit 23 of these drives in jeans front pocket.
Benjamin –
Fast. Spacious. Extremely portable. Very easy to use. Works like a charm. Highly recommended .
Sai –
When I checked the read write speed using CrystalDiskMark software provided by SanDisk, it is less than 50Mbs as against the 1000Mbs mentioned by the manufacturer. Please see attached photo.
Michael N –
Love these drives. Ludicrous fast Transferred over 1.4 TB in just over 35min. I do a lot of work in After Effects on the go and they always hold up.HardwareMacBook Pro 16
Tien –
Very small, light, rigid and quality for high speed and storage value.Solid state is more reliable than HDD, and much more compact and lightweight. Strongly recommended.
Paul –
consistent 900 mbs read write with most Macs and PCsRuns cooler than Samsung external SSDs. Perhaps its the larger sized casing.
Feli –
Excelent Very fast and great capacity Very happy with this purchase.
Paul –
I bought it right before my traveling. It was very nice and convenient having it and be able to save a backup of my photos without worrying loosing any of my photos.
Disgruntled Audio –
Im an audio engineer, and use an Allen Heath SQ audio console. It would not recognize the hard drive even after multiple formatting.
Jonathan –
Its a portable 1tb SSD that seems to be well built. Theyre asking me to review it less than a week after I received it so thats my review. Its a portable 1tb SSD that seems to be well built.5 stars on being a portable 1tb SSD that seems to be built well. There… Happy, BH Can I have that 1000 gift card now or is that even a real thing Does anyone actually know someone that won the 1000 gift card. I suspect not.I hope this was helpful for someone looking to buy a portable 1tb SSD that seems to be well built. I promise you will at least feel like it was well built and youll notice almost immediately that its portable and 1tb.Cheers
Sherry –
To be honest, the drive is still in the box. I am amazed at how small it is compared to my Transcend external drives. I am not happy that a week after getting it which it was back ordered at the time they went on sale.
Raul –
The SanDIsk 1TB Extreme Pro fits all my needs. Its very fast and its easy to adapt to any computer, the 1 TB capacity its really useful, whenever you have to edit or work in any project that requires some extra memory capacity.
Randy –
I might be over enthusiastic because I just updated all me computer stuffs after tens years. Coupled with thunderbolt 3 port and this Pro drive, transfer speeds are blazing. I edit 4K video from it with ease, transfer Gigs of photos in seconds. Couldnt be happier
Mont –
Fantastic device. Probably the best external SSD hard drive in the market. Highly recommended, a must have.
Shannon –
It really is quite amazing to get 2 TB of super fast storage in a format this small and with dustwater protection and without having to worry about a spinning disk. Ive only used it a short time, but was able to copy about 1TB of data onto it from another SSD at a sustained rate of about 600 MBs the other devices limit.Minor gripes from the perspective of a power user1 No onoff switch. Means you need to physically disconnectreconnect the drive if you want to unmount it when you have your machine asleep. I understand a physical switch probably makes dustwater protection more difficult, but I worry about the durability of cheap consumer connections repeatedly being connectedreconnected. Ive had drive connectors break several times over my career, but never an on offswitch….2 Cable length 12 inches. Fine for many uses, but if youve got a tower or even an iMac, the short cable makes connectingdisconnecting repeatedly see point 1… and drive placement more problematic. This isnt a cheap device would it have really killed them to also throw in a 3 ft cable
Geoffrey –
Light as a feather. Typically you know when youre yanking on an external drive older spinning disks had some weight to them. Ive actually picked up my laptop and didnt realize it was attached. Speeds are better than my old nonSSD not crazy about specs but I know this will speed up video processing. After a corrupt CompactFlash from Transcend I ONLY TRUST SANDISK
Sushrut –
Does what it claims to do, fast transfer of data. Ive clocked over 1000 mbps on my macbook pro while using a thunderbolt cable. I generally save my RAW files on the portable SSD and edited JPEGs on my computer. Also, Im an impatient person, I dont have to wait too long for image transfer on this external drive.another pro Fits in the palm of your hand, no matter how small your hand is.
grievecrew –
Its fast. Its small. Its portable. Its easy. And its well built. Plugged it into my PS5 to store all those old PS4 games. PS5 recognized it and formatted in no time flat with no issues. So far, so good.
Anonymous –
After about 3 hours of copying files over from an old HDD, the SSD is a little bit warm but not hot so I think the cooling works well. So far, no issues to report. The cables that come with it are only 28 cm. so that could be a bit short depending on your use. But at least it comes with one USB C USB C and one USB C USB 3 cable no adapter needed. Copying files over with USB 3 will be of course much slower than the speed advertised.
fatma –
its good and fast but with macbook its will work only 1000mbs not 2000mbsbecause 2020 M1 mac mini and macbook pro used 3.1 usb not support 3.2
GSSkier –
I have been using this for a while now and have had zero issues with it. I got this on sale so the value was excellent.
Michael –
The only way I could give this five stars is if I had a thunderboltusb 3 connection to get top speeds. Otherwise still faster than most.
Vipin –
Excellent and robust. I love this product. This is having very good speed.
shad w –
I havent been able to use all the framerates and codecs that the camera is designed for because the ssd isnt communicating at the speed required to preform said task. This is my opinion and not actually backed up by anything other than surface level cognitive frivoulity.
Eric –
Usually you pick two from fast, cheap and good. This little drive hits all threeA really awesome and fast drive for multiple applications.
Mdemp –
Great solid state drive, very compact and quick transfer rate. Definitely worth the money.
Chris –
These drives are fast, durable, portable, and reliable. I own several and recommend them to everyone.
Headphones –
A must have while editing large video files. The only downfall is they need a larger version.
Eric –
A great edition to my mobile editing rig. Faster than any external drive I have ever owned. Also great for moving big files between folks as well.
RYAN –
Quick upload and download so far. Only had it a week but loving it so far. Not sure Ill use the carabiner loop though, no sense in risking it.
Rmslim1 –
Using this SSD for my PS5 as an external drive, and Ive gotten excellent results. Strongly recommended, for a fast and efficient PS5 drive.
Matt –
This drive was way faster than expected Its quiet and surprisingly cool compared to similar models. Highly recommend.
Kevin –
I bought this to backup my old hard drive and had 800 gigabytes of images and documents. The transfer was smooth and the only constraint is the slow speed of the old drive the SanDisk is fast, quiet, and fits in the palm of my hand.
Brian –
Havent had it long, so I cant comment on durability, BUT I bought to use as an external startup disk running El Capitain for use running Adobe CS Programs and for that the speed is excellent and well worth the price.
Ashley –
I have used this for just a short while, but the device is very well made, rugged, it is small, and its very fast while connected to the MacBook Pro via USBC.
Ugly –
This SanDisk Extreme Pro 2TB. drive is very fast, rugged and small.Very happy with this purchase
Ann –
Love the shock absorbing exterior. Orange trim makes it easier to see in my work bag. Works great.
dtyrrell58 –
Needed an external drive to store photos, documents etc. So went for a SSD drive, read the reviews … so purchased the 1TB couldnt afford the 2TB Its small and compact, very fast reading and writing, ideal for browsing and looking at photos etc. Comes with 2 leads, USB and Thunderbolt cables. Great piece of kit, recommended. I will be looking for the 2TB when the prices come down
Andy –
I wanted the quality and worry free of a respected manufacturer and needed to back up a 4TB system but didnt really want to spend that much. I already have a 2TB Sandisk Extreme. So the first thing I had to do was copy the same files same USBC connection on and off both drives. It is SO worth it for the extra speed especially with large video files. I love backups now, blazing speed
Jack –
Great for backing up my photos in the field. Lightweight but powerful and durable.
John –
I just wish I went for the 2TB, this one is full and I am now out of room completely. Think about your projects now and future before buying. Always go with the idea, you need to have a backup that leaves 2530 open for growth. I hope this helps another BH Photo customer to make a good decision. Remember, that video takes up a lot of room.
