I needed to add a lens that was good in low light and also suitable for interiors. This lens fit the bill. It acquires focus very quickly and provides edgetoedge sharpness, even when wide open however, it can also provide a very nice bokeh. Im so glad I purchased this lens especially from BH.
Nicholas –
I bought the lens, and I have been using it for a while. The apertures I used were f1.4 and f2.8. Thats the reason I bought it for wider aperture. Then, I just found two noticeable spots when I stopped at f4 or smaller. They are appeared at every stop after f4. They are just getting darker and darker. I called BH right away, but they said it was out of the return period. Check your lens in every F stops, otherwise you might never notice the defect with the return period.
DURRELL –
Lighter and smaller than I had thought. Easily added to my camera bag with Alpha 7Rii and three other lenses. Now I have a complete set with f4 24105, f1.8 85, and f2.8 35.Maybe someday a long lens.
Kanaka808 –
This GM lens is almost identical in all functions to the 20G lens. Im a true Sony user and I compare performance to pricing. 24GM does have a slight edge at 1.4 for Astro. Nothing negative just trying to help customers.
Sudevan –
Best push chase and vision that I have made. Love this prime and quality of pics. Iam a hybrid shooter and use it for both pics and videos. Loving it. I combined it with Ronin Sc and it works flawless and never had any issues. I would AF in video is little slow, but not a deal breaker anyways for me.

WOW When I first bought my A7R2 a few years ago it came with a 2470mm kit lens. I found that I enjoyed the wide angle on that lens a lot, but the sharpness was not satisfactory. I later purchased a Laowa 18mm DDreamer which is a pretty incredible piece of kit, but ultimately the weight and need to manually focus every shot makes it less versatile for my type of casual shooting. This lens covers all my bases. It gives me the sharpest image I have seen, amazing bokeh, and theres a level of contrast and detail present here that I cant explain. It just makes the photos pop.Very happy with this purchase. Im not a professional, but the images taken with this lens definitely has the qualities I see in a lot of professional photos. Glad to have a piece of hardware I can grow into.
Chris –
Bought this for landscape, street and product photography for my A7R iii, and its incredible. Fast, tack sharp. Love the dedicated aperture ring on the lens itself feels good and works great. Its not cheap, but its built like a tank and will probably last forever. I have no regrets and this will be one of the first lenses I recommend to anyone shooting astronomy, landscapes, street or any lowlight work.
haptssolutions –
There is no wide angle lens like it. One can blur the background out with a wide angle lens
Clifford –
My first GM series lens. Very sharp, even wide open. Corners are sharp too. Very bright. I love the aperture with declick option. Build quality is excellent. It feels really good in your hands. Just about as perfect a 24mm f1.4 can possibly be. Only down side is the price is a bit high compared to Sigma. This one is a keeper for me
Kunhe –
Some QC issues definitely exist. The first thing I noticed after putting the lens on my camera is the loud motor noises it makes when I changed the aperture. In addition to the noise, I could feel the lens shaking when I tried to hold it still.I found many people online had the same noise issue with their copies, including the other 4 star reviews here. I tried my other Sony lenses and none of them makes such noticeable sound when in use I even have the notoriously noisy 55mm f1.8, and I never noticed any loud noise with it. This motor noise level is not something to live with but an obvious manufacture defect, especially considering a selling point is the declicking of the aperture control to reduce noise. To people who dislike the other threads that talk about this, maybe it didnt happen to your copy but this does happen but other buyers deserve to be aware of this.
Sean –
4 stars because my copy would emit a high pitched noise when attached to a poweredon camera A7III. Sound occurred on MF and AF. It was relatively quiet, but easily picked up by the inbody mic. Not an issue if using an external mic thats farther away from the lens. Didnt seem to affect the excellent image quality of this lens, although I dont expect to pay and have to worry about the focus motor eventually failing.Still, as others have said, extremely sharp and excellent AF performance down to f1.4. Very disappointed to wait on backorder so long only to receive a faulty copy.
Steve –
This is the holy Grail of wide angle lenses. Super fast AF, beautiful bokeh, compact, yet superb image results…performs very well in low light both photography and video. This is simply a dope lens…just love it
JONATHAN –
Great lens and extremely versatile. This was the only lens I took to Costa Rica and it served me well Its small size made it possible to bring staling ATV tours as well as on a catamaran. It also worked really well for night photos The important thing is to keep the subject towards the middle to avoid distortion.
Pixogenic –
Amazing results This camera will capture beautiful wide angles shots without any distortion. My favorite lens for any occasion. If I have space to carry just one lens, 24 mm G master will take that space. I am very happy with my purchase.
Jesse –
Preordered mine in early November and it was delivered Dec 26th. Looks and feels very good on A7iii. Images so far are amazing. This is my first GM lens.Im in northern Dallas with a lot of light pollution and I was still able to shoot Orions belt through a break in the overcast skies. As expected its razor sharp. I cant wait to shoot the Milky Way GC this summer with this awesome lens.
John –
I bought this to pair with the high res Sony A7RIV. I replaced the Sony 28mmF2 lens. Wow, what a difference. The detail you get with this is amazing. See the photos, its a 100 11 crop. I chose that image so that you can see the lines and details. It would even be better if I sharpened. If detail is important to you, this lens will not disappoint. If looking for a 24mm focal length, this is well worth the money. I use for video as well which gives me 24mm and 36mm focal length in crop mode. I VERY versatile lens A big different between those two focal lengths gives it the versatility of two lenses without compromising quality.
Yadiel –
its a Beast the depth of field on the 1.4 Wao amaizing the quality Whole new level
KYLE –
Small, fast, sharp and wow does it pop. I never imagined buying a G Master lens as they have all been so heavy. I was surprised at how light this was when it was announced and jumped on it as soon as I saw the reasonable price.Im astounded by the image quality of this little gem. Im reaching for this lens more than I ever imagined using a fast 24mm.
Connor –
The sharpness and bokeh capabilities of this lens is insane. Amazing quality.
Tony –
This is paired up with an A7siii and a gimbal most of the time and it has proved to be an amazing combo. The control of pulling focus is now almost perfect, giving film makers a new set of options. The lens is incredibly sharp and has a nice bokeh when the backgrounds are blurred.
Dan –
This lens will allow you to take ridiculously sharp photos. The bokeh is as sweet as the 24mm focal length allows. Its not a macro lens, but focusing distance is far shorter than most nonmacro lenses, so you can get pretty darn close to subject and get even blurrier backgrounds. If you rely on JPGs, the colors out of the box are very nice. And best of all, this thing is light so weight is pretty much a nonfactor when carrying stuff all day.Only real negative is the price, but excellent things dont come cheaply. 24mm is also a focal length that can start to create some distortion, but thats just how all wide angle lenses work. But even so, the distortion is quite minimal and can be easily fixed.A lot of people these days like to say, Gear doesnt matter, and if theyre referring to composition and storytelling, of course, theyre right. If youre one of these people, save your money and just use your smartphone. But if you care about other aspects of an image such as sharpness, detail, low noise, and and more pleasing renderings, then gear definitely matters, and the Sony 24 F1.4 GM is a very special glass that delivers some magic.
Mark –
Simply the best lens for my style of shooting. I love to shoot people in action or day to day reality unposed, often in difficult lighting. I have a Sony a9, a7r3 and an a7r2. My favorite lens used to be my Canon 24mm f1.4 which is a beautiful lens, but was adapted to Sony with an MC11 or Metabones IV. When I got the a9 body, I yearned for something more responsive and sharper. The Sony FE 24mm f1.4 delivers. Searingly sharp, even wide open. Fast focus response, and includes my favorite feature that I wish was on all lenses a manual fstop ring that gives me instant control over depth of field and exposure. Also, it is super light and stays on my a9 by default.
Zachariah –
Incredibly sharp, perfect for vlogging, venue and architectural shooting, absolutely stunning for astrophotography, and the best part, ITS LIGHT Definitely helps for my hikes.
Gerick –
Beautiful wide lens for our a7iii. We shoot both video and photo and really value our new G Master 24MM for its autofocus capabilities and speed.
Stephen –
I was blown away at how sharp this lens is. Paired up with my A7R4, I am able to pick up an immense amount of detail. This has to be the sharpest lens Ive shot with.
Marek –
Wonderful lens. Really good for videos and photos.I use it with Sony A7siii and this is the best combo. And if you have gimbal then you have everything you need for perfect video shots.I really recommend this lens.
Benjamin –
Aside from the superb sharpness, colors, bokeh rendering and lack of distortion, what I really love about this lens is its compact size. My other Sony lenses are amazing, but this one is just the right size and weight for a Sony a7riii camera. You can easily walk around for hours and hours without the camera feeling frontheavy exactly what you want in a fast wideangle lens like this one.
Brian –
I also own the Canon 24mm 1.4L II, so that is my point of reference. First, I like the price of this Sony, especially relative to other Sony GM lenses. It costs about what the Canon goes for used. Its roughly the same size as the Canon, but about 23 the weight. It looks large on the Sony A7 III compared to my 55mm 1.8 or 35mm 2.8, but feels balanced. I had originally planned to use my Canon primes 24 1.4, 35 1.4, 50 1.2, 85 1.2, 135 2 with a Metabones M4 adapter. However, the AF performance was disappointingly unacceptable, so I set off to buy Sony equivalents and this 24mm was the latest. Rumor has it that Sony will be coming out with a 135mm 1.8 soon and I will probably get that one as well whenif it does. The Sigma is too huge and the Batis is too expensive and only opens to 2.8, so Im waiting on the Sony.Heres my take on the 24mm GM Overall, very good. Its sharp, produces good color, and has minimal distortion. It focuses fast and accurately with my A7III, however, the eye focus is not as effective at any kind of distance due to the wide focal length. It works great in close. The aperture ring is nice for video, however, it doesnt lock into the A position, so Ive accidentally moved it while changing lenses during a shoot. The button to hold focus that this and other GM lenses have is not needed since I use back button focus and can just let go of the button to hold focus. The only other negative is the wicked artifacts the lens produces while shooting into the sun. I dont mind a little flare, but these look more like someone sneezed on my lens not pretty. Check out the purple fringing on the shoulder of the male adult in what is, otherwise, a very nice shot with this lens.No lens is perfect. This one doesnt even come close, but I do like the results its giving me on my Sony A7III. It produces fun shots that have inspired me to include a few of these in my shoots.
Kris –
I love the G Master line of lens because its so similar to Carl Zeiss. The 24mm GM is the best wide angle currently out for the Sony Mirrorless system. I also own the 25mm Zeiss Batis but this GM is beyond better in sharpness, the colors and even when it comes to ghostingchromatic aberration. The 24GM gives you an excellent results if youre like myself and shoot wide open aperture. The wait is over, because Sony has made a lens that photographers and even videographers can completely be happy about. If there is a sixth star, this lens definatly completes it. BUY IT, youll thank me after.
Mike –
This is a awesome light gathering lens for night photography. I purchased this lens because of other reviews I have read for shooting night scape and milky way shots. I have been very impressed with its performance and the quality of the image that it can produce. I have discovered with this lens that night photography is quickly becoming a new passion for me.
Aristotle –
Great quality lens. If this is the focal length you need and want the best, this is the way to go. Compared to sigma, tamron, etc which are good lens also, but I wanted native lens. Worth every penny
Teddy –
I agree with the vast majority of reviewers that this is a great lens with respect to its built quality, size, sharpness, and F1.4 low light abilities. At 24mm its a very versatile lens for a variety of applications, especially for Street Photography. I wanted a lens that was capable of keeping up in sharpness with my Sony a7R IV at 61MP and this lens delivers. I find this and the 135mm F1.8 GM lens as perfectly suited to the a7R IV. This level of quality of course comes at a price 1,398.00 to be exact But if youre looking a high quality lens in the wide angle focal length look no further. Highly recommended
Abby –
Love this lens . I was back and fourth for awhile as to if I wanted to invest the money into it … but its well worth the investment The quality of images the video has been amazing. The in body stabilization with my Sony a7iii has been great for hand held as well. Could not recommend this lens more..although Im curious to see it in comparison to the 20mm
Adam –
This lens has not come off my A7RIII since it arrived. Its perfectly sharp and so lightweight for my two camera wedding set up. The ONLY negative thing I will say is that there is pretty heavy chromatic aberration between 1.4 and lessens to 2.8. In bright sun where people may be backlit, you will see pretty strong chromatic aberration that will be slightly tough to correct. All you need to do is step it down to 2.8 and youre fine. All other scenarios, the lens is literally perfect.
James –
Pros Absolutely unreal Only lens you need on a camera. Love the look the 24mm givesCons NA
Tristan –
GMaster24mmWhat more is else there to say This lens is probably the best for the Sony 7iii depending on your needs. Love this lens. Stays on my camera majority of the time. Going to get a 55mm to compliment this lens tighter shots.
AUGIE –
First time camera buyer and learning how to shoot using this lens has been great. It allows me to stop and really think about composition and settings without having to worry about zoom etc. very happy I bought it and it will stay with me for a long time
Yaya –
What a sharp full frame lens to pair perfectly with my a7RIV. Im no pro by any means but this lens has helped me take some great quality pictures. Works extremely well in low light. I travel frequently and have picked up photography as a hobby to capture the beautiful landscapes. The color definitely pops more with this lens than my previous Nikon cropped sensor lenses. The detail is there Even zoomed in the pictures retain their quality. This is a very pricey lens, however if you can afford it I would splurge on it. The focal length is good for many different types of photography.
PrimeTime –
This wide angle camera lens is amazing It captures beautiful bokeh flawlessly…I love the flexibility of this lightweight compact prime lens…Make the investment…G Master at its best
Brian –
I wanted this lens for a specific purpose and it is now my favorite lens. I have five other lens and 3 GMs.
Alejandro –
Undoubtedly one of my favorites of all times. The color rendering of this lens is simple outstanding. Amazing for night sky photography making so easily to take great Milky Way shots.
John –
I know there has been a lot of hype around this lens and I wasnt sure if it would be a dramatic upgrade from the Zeiss 25mm f2.0… It is without a doubt the best wide angle Emount lens that money can buy. Fantastic rendering and great with the a9 or a7III. Perfect for video and photos. If you are up in the air between the two, this is the lens to buy.
Madmags –
The first lens i inculcated in, and worth the price. very fast shutter speed , the picture sharpness and quality is fantastic
John –
The lightweight build of the lens makes it a great fit on the A7iiiA7RiiiA9 bodies. It feels well balanced and compact. I have found that it is a great size and weight for walking around with it every day. I have heard a lot of mention about desire for a goodsolid performing wide angle lens and Sony did not hold back. I am extremely pleased with the lens and expect it to be a wonderful lens for all types of photography.
James –
The lens is extremely sharp, lightweight and quiet. Perfect for still and video. Easily fits on a gimbal and is small enough to be discreet when traveling. Highly recommended
Alexander –
This lens is intuitive and delightful to use straight out of the box. The aperture control ring is smooth and cinematic, and the bokeh is incredible. Excited to use this lens with my DJI Ronin SC and Sony A7III
Steve –
This is my second G master lens in addition to my 2470 2.8 GM. The bokeh and qualify of this lens is amazing. Quite a bit lighter than the 2470 so its ideal for walking around for point and shoot also
Ammar –
Ive been wanting to get my hands on this lens all year and after renting it for a couple months, I knew I needed to own it. This lens allows me to capture moments, scenes, and stories in a focal length that I naturally think in with incredible quality.
Romy –
This lens is razor sharp. Very versatile and the size is perfect on my A7R4. I used button C1 for APSFull frame and on APS mode I have 35 mm with 26 MP. Wide open this lens is very sharp with beautiful bokeh. My walk around lens 95 of the time. Hope Sony could make the 85 GM 1.4 mark2 smaller.
Braedon –
This is a great lens It is so crisp and the autofocus is very fast I also love the way pictures and videos come out at F1.4. That alone makes this lens very versatile because of its low light capabilities.
touseefjavaid1 –
I was deciding between this and 35mm 1.4 Zeiss. Pick this and it is so light weight and now its not getting off from my camera for landscapes, street photography and environmental portraits.
Gene –
Its an imperfect lens, with serious CA, soft corners, slow focusing. And yet, its my favorite lens. The focal length is very useful for me, the 1.4 aperture is incredibly important, and its pretty compact and lightweight. And there is something very pleasing about its rendering, the sharp center and soft bokeh make it charming.
bettyswollocks2000 –
If you are looking for one prime lens, this has to be it The Sony engineers behind this have created something special here. It is light. Attached to my A7III the combo comes in at a kilo. Less than half the weight of my previous Sony with Zeiss 2470. It is sharp. There is a range of comparison videos out there that compare this to the Batis 25. I cant answer those differences here. I chose this having seen all of them on its low light capability Excellent at 1.4 along with the breakthroughs in eradicating sagittal flare it does really well and chroma which Ive yet to notice. Ive answered yes to the is it good value box. Remember, Canikon options on the same cost 50 more and are debatably not as good. If you have the A7R3 dont worry. This baby can resolve images of the largest size comfortably. It is light, sharp and delivers brilliant results.
Victor –
For the price, the 24mm G Master lens provides extreme sharpness and reliability in autofocus. I highly recommend this if you are looking for a wide lens with great low light capabilities. Going to goto the Poconos soon for some astrophotography, so Ill be testing this out very soon
Telfer –
The word that come to mind when describing this 24mm GMaster lens is stunning beautiful. It makes photos look slick. it has an expensive depth to the image. Focus and sharpness are both spot on. Definitely 5 Stars
Ethan –
I bought this lens as kind of an impulse buy, thinking it would compliment my current 2470mm F2.8 with a bit of a faster aperture. The colors it renders and sharpness are on par if not better than the 2470mm GM. I absolutely love it and the fact it has a manual aperture ring too. Im an avid storm chaser, so this lens will be my go to this coming spring for wide angle storm shots and timelapse video.
mj24449302 –
Awesome lens. One of the sharpest lens Ive ever owned. Autofocus is fast and quiet Highly recommended
Jeff –
This lens is awesome Its light, sharp and spot on when using it. Great for video on a gimbal. Perfect for shooting low light concerts and events. If you have the budget, get this lens. I use mine on an a7III
Dean –
This GM is really sharp. With the A7R3 I can hand hold at f16. Not ideal in very low light, but have gotten super sharp great depth of field with this lens in low light.
Seokyoung –
Portable and right size for capturing moments. I have most of Sony GM lenses abd this is one of the Highest qualit sony lenses above of all time Havent found any issues so far will update more details as soon as I find it. Highly recommended.
ckh2012 –
This is a ripper GM lens you will ever get The best in its class of a 24mm focal length. Photos coming out there tells a story Sharp and solid lens, good feel and is GM for every Sony users.
landman66 –
This is a great wide angle lens for Astro photography and even landscapes. Very sharp with very little vignetting. Great buy.
Vanessa –
I had become impatient waiting for this and had bought the Sigma equivalent, but returned it because of the weight, and because I knew I would always regret not buying the Sony. It was worth waiting for. Small, light, fast, and great for astro. I also do aerial photography, so for lowlight shooting I know this will be great. This image was taken at F1.8 15 sec at ISO 1600 and Im pretty happy with it.
SAM –
This lens is by far the sharpest, most accurate and contratic lens I have ever have. Is a jewel. Sony really outdone themselves with this one
Grif –
I researched this Sony offering by reading every review that I could find. All were glowing and positive. I searched FLICKR for all the images credited to this lens, which were awesomely sharp with great contrast. Beach Camera was fantastic to work with and in no time the lens was in hand. My verdict This lens lives up to every pro review Sharp, great contrast and FAST focus. I love this lens
Anonymous –
The lens is well built and very sharp. When clicked, the aperture ring requires some force to turn which prevents accidentally changing the aperture. When declicked, the aperture ring can be changed smoothly. Great lens overall.
Gwon –
I bought it since I wanted a relatively wide prime to cover low light scenarios. Although the 20mm 1.8 came out right after, I think I will stick to this lens.I read many reviews how great and almost perfect this lens is and so far, I am generally satisfied with the size, weight, sharpness, build quality.
Robert –
This is by far my most favorite lens. Razor sharp cornertocorner. Light weight but not cheaply made. Very, very, quite. Simply fantastic. Buy it … you will not regret it.
Tony P. –
Braydon W. Is my MVP. Thanks for helping me with my order This lens is a beast. Super clear images and fast delivery.
TONY –
Super sharp corners. Amazing for low light applications. super smooth bokeh
Michael –
24mm is not my favorite but oh wow this lens is epically good. The colors, the focus speed, the weight. It is as close to perfect as you can get. This and the 135mm 1.8 GM blew my mind. I hope they come out with a new 85mm GM designed by the same people that did this 24mm lens and the 135mm lens. Seems like they are keeping this theme going with the new 35mm GM so I ordered it immediately.
Anthony –
I have several Cinema Lenses and have gotten used to the fantastic quality they provide. Problem is, theyre heavy so its not practical for run and gun shooting. This lense produces incredible quality and is lighter than I expected. I was incredibly hesitant to purchase due to the price but its money well spent.
Bruce E –
Maybe its because lenses designed for cameras where there is no mirror box are inherently better, but this lens seems to have much less distortion that my 24mm Nikkor. The size and weight are the only things I dont like about the Sony 24mm but the lightening fast auto focus make the trade off worthwhile.
Richard –
Buying a product online isnt always easy. I like how easy it is to buy something from B H. Easy to order, orders are processed quickly and the order arrives in a couple of days. It doesnt get any easier than that. Thank you B H. The lens is way good. Im glad I purchased it.RJS
Michael –
Loving this for astrophotography, city shots at night, and indoor group shots where the contextenvironment is fun. The size is also perfect, great match for my A7iii.My kit24 1.4 gm As wide as I would personally go if Im taking pictures of people, which is why I dont own anything wider. I tried the 20mm 1.8 g, and while that is also great, I just have a preference for 24mm.50 1.2 gm Great pair with the 24 1.4, favorite lens for pictures of people24105 f4 Super flexible, great for hikes or travel. I really like pairing this with the 50mm, as they have very different strengths.
Marcos –
Im in love with this lens. Its light, compact and SHARP Oh these pictures are amazing. It versatile in and outdoors too. Perfect allaround travel lens for me. I can walk around for hours without sticking out like a sore thumb or feeling like my neck needs adjustment. This is my first non zoom lens and it took me some getting use to the fact that, zooming its done with your feet. If you are a newbie like me be ready for that. Yes, I quickly found the supper 35 mm in camera option and that eased the transition period. However, at the end of the day, the deciding factor for me keeping this lens, was reviewing and editing the pictures after every trip. Every time, Ive sit down to sort my images its been a pleasant surprise. The color and sharpness, even in low light conditions is amazing.
Sally –
Ive waited months for this product to arrive so I was expecting my first G series to exceed all of my expectations and quality of existing lenses. But I was disappointed at the lack of sharpness in my photos with many blurry ones to scrap. I have a Rokinon 35 mm 1.4 that I actually think I prefer to this lens Im not giving up, however. Ive only shot with it about 10 times and will continue to see if maybe theres something Im doing wrong. If anyone has any advice on the blur aspect, Im all ears.
Liam –
Forever, I have been a fan of wideangle. From films to photos. Portraits to landscapes, everything is amazing with wide angle. I have gone through many lenses, the 25mm f2 by Zeiss, the 35mm 1.4 GM from Sony, the 2470 2.8 GM from Sony, and finally now I have a lens that I love every aspect of. The 24mm 1.4 is lightning fast, 4x lighter than the 2470 and has better bokeh and corner sharpness than any other Sony lens available right now. The 1.4 paired with a wide angle is absolutely beautiful. This lens fits on my gimbal, is less expensive than any other G Master and will never come off my camera.Thank you Sony for continuing to listen to your audience and give us what we want.
Lawrence –
We just shot five days of exterior B roll in Manhattan, Queens, Bronx, Brooklyn and Staten Island. Mostly at 120 fps. We were able to achieve beautiful wide compositions and take full advantage of the 1.4 F stop to give us nice shallow focus and Bokeh. Love the new addition to my Sony FS7 kit
Ryan –
Forget Canon L glass, Sony has proven they know how to make some amazing lenses. This lens is small, light, perfectly balanced on an a7 body and it is sharp as can be. Excellent straight lines, beautiful bokeh, and did I say SHARP Even at F1.4 This is my new favorite and it has earned a permanent place on my camera Worth every penny Good job Sony.
Kentaro –
Spectacular lens Wonderful, brilliant colors, ideal size for everyday life. I am experimented to see if it will be my definitive lens. It will pair with the wonderful Zeiss Batis 135 f 2.8.
James –
So I recently brought a used but mint copy of the 1635mm f2.8 GM and it is a pretty awesome lens, I normally dont shot past 24mm, 20mm on a good day. The main reason why I picked up this 1635mm GM is because I got it for under 1500 in LN condition.I wanted the 24mm GM and I was one of the ones who preordered as soon as it was eligible for preorder, but my patience got the best of me and cancelled my order two weeks in and it was one of my best decisions. Fast forward to 3 days ago. I was surfing on BH in the used department, because I am that barginguy, and long and behold a used 24mm GM f1.4 for only a grand, yes a grand, with boxes, bag, hood, paper work and plastics. So when I received the item today I was very nervous to open it because I didnt know the condition, other then what BH said it was about an 8, to my surprise when I opened it, is was a 10 jackpot. OpticsGlass Super sharp and super clean, not one scratch. And now for the quality, I would say it is easily much sharper then the 1635mm GM, 85mm F1.4 GM and it is on par with my favorite Sony FE of all time, the FE 50mm F1.4 Zeiss 50mm 1.4 ZA is killer lens razorsharp dont sleep, though the 24mm GM has less CA wide open.In terms of sharpness it has to be one of the best and sharpest 24mm f.14 let alone in the Sony Line up. The color rendition is a GM level, as well as the build and the BOKEH Amazing fall off. I dont have any focusing issues when I pair it with my A7RIII. And there is no audible noise, that is of any concerns. The MFD is surreal, it isnt macro by any imagination, but it can get pretty close. I wouldnt even consider posting a picture on BH, because the compression wouldnt do the lens no justice.I know the 1635MM f2.8 is an awesome lens and serves a different purpose then the 24mm GM and I would, and others would consider it one of the best 1635mm lens out there, especially one of the top in the Sony FE Line up and for the price I got it for, I will kick myself if I was to sell it but only time will tell. But if I do sell it, I know the 24mm F1.4 GM would step up from the 24mm vantage point.I would easily brought this lens at full price and I was looking almost daily to purchase it, but always out of stock. The 24mm is the new 35mm, but much more versatile IMO. For my style of shooting, I have 4 lens, 1635mm GM, 50mm f1.4 ziess, Sony 85mm f1.8 I sold my 85GM for this and havent looked back and now the lovely, beautiful and light, 24mm GM For me, it was luck and worth the wait.If 24mm is you FL and if you are in the Sony FE camp, dont look any further, and yes, I am a big Sigma Fan, but the colors and the weight made me look right past it. though I did have the Sigma 20mm and 24mm FE and they are very sharp the color didnt wow me, howeverI hope this review helps someone who is deciding to buy this lens. I am not a paid photographer, but love all things cameras and photography am super enthusiast. Me buying lens at the price that I did, was a bonus, but it is easily worth the retail price. I would love to see the DXO Mark review if you believe in that site any more. Thanks for reading And happy Shooting

Just received my 24mm f1.4 GM Lens and ran out to catch a sunset. I was amazed how light and fast this lens is. The quality is top notch
alamo855 –
Fantastic lens for astro work. Great size, weight and for the price you get a G Master lens. Ive have many but this ticks all boxes and the price is far more reasonable to others in the line up
Iran –
This is probably one of the best lenses I ever shot with, its tack sharp across the frame even at 1.4 with only some minor CAfringe. Its smaller than most f1.4 lenses for full frame but not necessarily light. If youre into astrophotography youre in for a treat
Kevin –
I am in love with this lens. It is a beautifully constructed piece of glass that performs excellently. The weight of this lens is less than the sigma fe mount and it is noticeable when I brought it on a recent hike. The weight difference is well worth it in the long run. I barely noticed it during the hike.Optically, the results are brilliant as expected from the sony GM line. The backorder time for me was about 6 weeks. Good hunting.
SamPho –
It lives up to the GM name. Sharp, minimal distortion and aberration. Great build quality. This is a lifelong lens. Ive used it for everything from landscape to portraits. A bit expensive for a 1.4. It could definitely shave 100 to 150 off the price.
Jon –
From the packaging on into the lens the feeling was of quality. The click detent lens shade with the velvety finish inside to reduce flare was a nice touch Ive not seen before. The focus and aperture rings just feel good, the lens is solid. So Im using it. I think this is probably the best lens Ive ever had, I am so very pleased with it. Small apertures do have a little hunting grunt as it focuses, but no big deal. The images are stunning, superb color, contrast and focus. Ive delayed posting comments as I wanted to be sure Im really that pleased with this lens. I am. This lens will live on my a7Rii, with the cropping available I doubt I will use my zoom all that much.I would attach a starburst shot for comment, the image was too large, the starburst got really good comments. As usual, BH service was exceptional, just prepare for the now mandated sales tax.
Steve –
Beautiful, well balanced lens for my A7R III body. Incredible sharpness on the subject and amazing bokeh depending on your aperture setting. Looking forward to both landscape and unique portraits with this lens.

I never heard of pictureline before. I always purchased from BH or Adorama or Amazon. I purchased the Sony 1.4 24mm GM. They answered all my questions quickly. Shipped quickly. And packaging had lots of bubble wrap and cushion to protect my 1400 investment I Highly recommend this shop. People need to realize theres more camera shops out there. BH Adorama arent the only companies selling camera gear. Will return again for more lens purchases and camera gear.
Dominick –
This is an amazing lens. For the MSRP cost, it can be dissuasive however trust me it is a great investment. Edgetoedge it stays tack sharp, distortion isnt too bad, low light performance is beautiful f1.4 is quite helpful.
Bill –
I bought the lens based on rave reviews and the fact of being f1.4. I do a lot of night photography, so performance wide open was everything, really. I was disappointed in how badly the lens performed as you get away from the center of frame. Stars got softer, as well as square or hourglass shaped instead of round at the edges. And, I dont think the images were sharp at infinity at all when shooting wide open, even in the center of frame. I wonder if I got a bad iteration of the lens. So, back it goes. I shot with the A7rII.
Lauren –
I wasnt sure about making this purchase since I already own the Sony 1635 f2.8 GM, but this thing is a beast. Sharpness is fantastic corner to corner at nearly all apertures, and bokeh is creamy. Great lens for recording video and interviews.
Mark –
Love it, well worth the wait… I am by no means professional. I bought this lens for shallow depth and Astrophotography. I have attached a couple pics from my night shots here in the North East. I love this thing
Cobeimaging –
Great lens for capturing the best low light situations and gives you some of the best blurred out background shots. I love it
David –
I got sent a used lens with obvious wear and use on it. It also had multiple coffeedrink stains and some sticky residue stuck in between the seams and plastic. Barely functional. The focus and aperture rings had a hard time turning because of the sticky stuff stuck in between the lens seams. I had to wait like 2 weeks for this lens to come back into stock before ordering one. For a 1500 lens, very disappointed that I got sent this after waiting for so long. Will be purchasing from another website.
Ylwdevil –
Very nice lens. Super light and sharp. Good for videography
Matthew –
So I bought an A6100 with a kit lens to see if liked trying a mirrorless system before I buy the a7IVr. After the ease of use, Im going to upgrade and get it. But I did buy this lens to try it out and Im blown away by the photos. The pictures are razor sharp AND I dont have to touch them up as much in LightRoom. Definitely worth the investment and this is my go to lens when I do shoot.
Reviewthis –
I purchased this lens to mount on my Sony A7 mark 3. Best lens Ive every own. Sharp and fast with high quality material. Worth every penny.
Garett –
Lens appeared to be used. Glass was dirty and the lens hood was already attached. I ordered the same lens from another company and the lens hood came in plastic not mounted. Will be returning.
Jung –
It is sharper than Sigma 24mm and Nikon 24mm, and ZE 25mm f2, and bit better than Batis 25mm. Color rendition is similar to Batis 25mm. After testing with these indoor test, I feel it is best ever 24mm in the market for mirrorless camera.
Derek –
Decided to get this lens for astrophotography, low light party pictures and landscapes. Works great for all of these. At this price, Id like to see image stabilization built in as well. it works well with Sonys in body stabilization.
viktokuruc –
One of the best GM lenses. Quick, silent and accurate AF. No distortion. Surprisingly sharp even at f1.4 much better than my 85 f1.4 GM. Nice color and Bokeh rendering. Very small and light yet durable. Buyed this lens instead of a 2470 because of the F1.4 aperture and i really love it. Using it on an A7R4.
Travis –
This might be my new favorite lens The 1.4 aperture is amazing in low light but also great to just get awesome depth of field images aka bokeh. Its super lightweight and durable. Really enjoy everything about this lens
Huilin –
This item is the cheapest Grand master lenses at Sony band, personally I have Sony 35mm f1.4 Zeiss Lens, 85 Gm Lens , and 135 f2.8 Zeiss batis Lens, 24mm is as perfect as these lenses. I have try this lens from Sony company which is my desire lens for wide angel choice, it is fast, accurate, awesome in build. I did many portraits at the demo day, I have To say this I love 24mm so much. I believe this lens will be a daily use lens for me, if I open apsc crop function on my Sony a7 riii, it can be used as a 35mm lens for street photography I highly recomand this one for its quality, its low weight and for its convenience
Jacqueline –
Ive had this lens in my wishlist for a while and finally pulled the trigger I was looking for a lens that can be my every day goto lens. Its perfect for photojournalism and getting wide shots Its very well built and has the creamiest bokeh
Susan –
I sold my whole Nikon kit D5, 10 prime lenses one zoom, and got the Sony A7R4. This was the second lens I got for it, after the 85 f1.4 G Master. Both of these lenses are great. The 85 is bigger heavier than my Nikon 85 1.4G, but this 24 G master is lighter weight than the 24 f1.4 G from Nikon. I like a 24mm for being in the middle of it all.
Dominick –
While its steep price tag may dissuade potential buyers, I assure you it lives up to the cost I did a lot of research before deciding to invest in this lens, watching YouTube reviews, reviewing comparisons between this and similar lenses, and I couldnt be happier with my decision. NOTE It is a wide lens for Fullframe cameras, dont buy this without understanding its usecase. I personally use it for streeturban photos, and use it in conjunction with my 55mm Zeiss during portrait sessions for those fullbody shots.
Anonymous –
This is an excellent prime that packs superb image quality in a compact package. Its built like a little tank and it has a nice density to it.The image quality is great and the color representation flat and flexible.
Nina –
I borrowed this lens once. On the basis of great reviews.I shoot rockn roll concerts very often and wanted to try it out.I was absolutely excited and convinced. What a quality. Sharp from corner to corner, and that wide open.Even the drummer who is further away is clearly visible. It was clear I had to buy it. Im a fan of the Gmaster lenses and thats my first prime lens. The quality is brilliantYou can see some of my images herehttpswww.instagram.compB1XBjpen3GoNinirockx Instagram
Christopher –
This is my first GMaster lens and Im definitely impressed. Reviewed with a Sony a7iiiFor traveling, this is small, lightweight and, can easily fit in any kit. Ive used this lens to shoot some portraits and landscapes. Photos come out super sharp which is expected with this lens. Out of all the lenses in my kit including other primes, this is my favorite lens and usually stays on the camera 247.Autofocus performance is something to be a little desired. In my experience it can take a moment to lock onto a face or eye but nothing switching to manual cant fix. If you dont need INSTANT response, this is something you most likely wont notice which is why I still have this product 5stars.Definitely a good buy if you are looking for a premium lens for your kit
Mark –
Pros Fantastic image quality across the frame from wide open.Colour renditions are just what I like.Cons No points of note.
Will –
I am really enjoying my 24 GM. The sharpness and rendering of the lens, particular for photographs of people is just gorgeous. I am more of a 3585 person, but this lens is pushing me to work more on environmental portraiture.
Nick –
I love this lens. I never knew how much I needed this. 24mm 1.4. Great build and quality. Totally worth the price.
David –
This lens is bolted to my a9. The a9 is bolted to my face. Goodness, the color rendition, crisp details, edge to edge brightness, vibrancy, and character are all captivating and breathtaking. The lens fits the alpha body so perfectly. Out of the ten lenses I have used a lot with the alpha cameras, the 24gm feels the best balanced, both in weight and size. Its very comfortable to walk around and handhold the camera for hours and take handheld shots. The build features are great the aperture ring makes it easy to go from a razor thin depth of field to deep landscape, while the focus button takes full advantage of the blazing focus speed of the alpha cameras, and the manual focus ring is a smooth focusbywire system. Ive got a smokey Hoya variable ND filter I pop on front that combo brings such character to the images…reminiscent of the Zeiss 55. Its truly impressive how fine the detail is up close and from far away all the way across the frame. Still learning how to do portraits. The lens has built in image correction, so there isnt as much barrel distortionbulby face for close up portraits, but its still there. A bit of distance with a nice background works well and the f1.4 creates 3D pop. Architecture photography is a blast thanks to the details and vivid colors. Im also LOVING how well it captures film in 4K. So far Ive been less than impressed with the a9s ability to capture 4K, always seems choppy and laggy. But in a tough, lowlight situation a coinop shooting gallery in Old Town Sacramento the 4K video was smooth, bright, and vivid…watching it on a big screen put me right back in the moment. And thats what photography is all about…clarity of the moment. This lens does just that. Check out the comparison photo of a landscape with a rising sun. Even the Gods know how special the 24gm is they opened up the clouds once the lens appeared. The comparison is the 24205G77mm, the Zeiss 55, and the 24gm. Love each for their own abilities it seems the 24 is a blend of the strengths of the other two clarity of the 24105G with the character of the 55. Buy the lens.
Nickolas –
Not sure what to say that hasnt already been said. This is an amazing wide angle lens, no one would argue otherwise. Its very rare the photovideo community agrees on a best anything, but this is the best 24mm and everyone seems to universally love it. That alone says more than any review ever could.
Richard –
An f1.4 wide angle with superb optics wide open is a dream lens for astro, EXCEPT if intent is to capture auroras at high latitude, near or beyond the arctic circle, youll need to shoot in portrait orientation if you wish to include all or at least most of the aurora with any foreground. To frame an attractive composition youll need to stitch a panorama. Up for this challengeI was, and it can be done, but the advantage of f1.4 is lost, since even with short shutters, 2, and a click stop pano head I used the PocketPano about 35 is lost between exposures. Thus in the overlap, when merging, there is smear equivalent to an exposure of about 57.So you are better off, at high latitudes where auroras go far towards the azimuth, using a wider lens even if a stop slower, shooting for 46 and at a lower ISO. I returned to my Laowa 15mm f2 ZeroD which has all the optical performance needed and boasts a tstop matching its fstop not all fast aperture lenses have such high transmission.I owned Sony 24 GM for a few months, then sold. For daytime landscape at 24mm my 424105 does fine, for nighttime cityscapes my Loxia 21 produces fine aperture stars around lights, and for astro I prefer my Laowa. Also the Laowa is always with me for its extremely close focus ability. For interest, attached is a pano merge of an aurora over the Dalton Highway in Alaska, north of the arctic circle, created from 4 images in portrait mode, f1.4, 1.6, ISO 6400 on an a7iii. Many stages of processing in LrC and a pass through Topaz AI DeNoise were needed. The aurora is not sharp despite short 1.6 shutter, and is equivalent to that of a 6 exposure due to delay between shots while flicking the pano head.

I waited more than a month to get this lens, for a trip I had planned. Was so excited to get it. Initially took some pictures outside and was really happy but then went inside to test the wide aperture. The noise this lens makes in low light is unbelievable. Spent a lot of time searching people with similar experiences and there are many. The lens opens and closes the diaphragm blades when half pressing the shutter release button and you can hear it. In video seems to be very quiet, but in AFS will always be clunky. Got some better results in AFC but still there. I updated firmware on my A7II to the latest hoping for a better experience but no luck. Pictures are really good but doesnt feel right to pay so much for a G lens that sounds like an old car. I will reach out to Customer Support to see my options. Unfortunately, some people complained about getting the same experience when replaced so really frustrating. I would like to keep it but this doesnt feel comfortable with the noise it makes.
Patrick –
This lens is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted a fast, wide, quality lens that was robust and well built. This checked all the boxes a focal length that I quite enjoy. I have used the 35mm, 55mm and 85mm native sony glass on our A7riii and they all drawbacks that led me to keep looking. I find the size of this lens to be very manageable the 85mm G Master is a monster while having some really good optics. The CA is there for sure but anyone buying this lens is going to fix that any other minor issues in post. I found the 55mm Zeis to be perhaps a bit sharper wide open but I like the colors on the G Master people say the Zeiss is more saturated but I didnt see that in my shots. The images really really pop. I also really like the aperture ring which I actually use and the assignable function button focus lock by default but I like it for EYE AF since the default button on the back is less comfortable to press and I hold this lenscamera combo with two hands its not light and with a flash is actually heavy. This is an expensive prime lens but I do think it will hold its value and I can keep it for some time since I plan to stay in the Sony ecosystem. I would suggest looking at the 85mm if you really only want to focus on portraits without that wide FOV. I like the wide look with kids because it makes for a more interesting photo. The made it harder to frame shots. Not sure if Sony will come out with a G 35 or 55 but for now I am very happy with this lens.
Michael –
I am utterly blown away by the image quality and bokeh from this lens. I watched and read ALL the reviews about the 24mm 1.4 G master but di not quite get it. I watched them again after using the lens and NOW I understand. WOW Wide and shallow depth of field. Creamy, gorgeous. Really like nothing Ive ever used. BTW I have the Zeisss 35mm 1.4, 1635mm 2.8 G, Leica lenses and Zeiss supersede primes for pro use. Still massively impressed. A attached is the first image I took in my jeep the moment I took the lens out of the box and put it on my A7III
Chanelle –
Pros Beautifully designed lens captures stunning images from portrait, landscape, and in low light conditions.Cons Can be expensive but also priced competitively compared 1.4 24mm in its class.
ChrisO –
This lens is truly outstanding. Edge to edge sharpness even at f1.4 as advertised. Lightweight and easy to handle. Sony has a true winner with this amazing glass
Soto –
What an amazing lens. So versatile, great for portraits landscape and street photography too Super light and superbly fast, I never leave the house without this lens when Im shooting or even vlogging because guess what Its actually an amazing lens for shooting videos too Gobsmacked from what it can do, at the end of the day its a SONY though so you know youre buying quality
Chanh –
This lens is INSANE. The sharpness from this lens is crazy, this picture is a super cropped photo of a squirrel that I took and its still so sharp. The bokeh on it is so smooth and clean. I had thought the 55 1.8 was sharp but compared to this GM… all i can say is wow. Autofocus is super fast and it weighs next nothing. Definitely worth the money. I cant seem to take it off and use another lens
pommerbob –
Great lens all around. Its easier for me to explain the things I dont like. Nothing.
Anonymous –
A very very versatile focal length. Not too wide nor narrow for a street photoshooting. Crop it becomes 35mm. Money very well spent. I got it at 25 off LN. Felt a bargain here. Once this lens go LN at my local store it just flies off. Sharp and fast AF. Unbelievable. All in one small less than 500 grams.
Kiyokai42 –
If you are looking for a wide angle, but not super wide, lens, then this is the lens for you. Unlike a lot of Sony GMaster lenses, this is small and lightweight.Perfect for gimbal work, and those landscape shots. I do wish Sony had something this good in 35mm.This is also a great lens to use for pet photography, animals look amazing.
James –
The combination of a wide perspective and a narrow depth of field is unequalled by any other lens in my kit. Great for people in places. Use it bolted to a Sony 7R III. Love the aperture ring.
Xuhan –
This is overall a great lense. Supper sharp image, lightweight, high building quality, the aperture ring is supper helpful and enjoy to use it.Large aperture helps you express your subject very clearly. Give a lot of opportunity to taking photos at night.Love it.
Daniel J –
I sold my Zeiss Batis 18mm for this lens. It was so worth the money. I have the 2470 GM 2.8 and was worried about the crossover comparisons. Its as light as advertised, snappy and the bokeh rivals the GM 85mm with a much wider range. Perfect for street photography, architecture shots and everyday use. Highly recommend.
Brian –
For a 1.4 this lens is actually pretty small and looks right at home on an a7iiia9. Focuses quickly although a tad bit noisy at smaller apertures. I love the aperture ring on the lens. I have no real complaints so far. Its magical in low light, and creates beautiful images. Im likely going to be selling my Zeiss Batis 25mm now.
George –
Sharp as the devil himself with buttery, delicious bokeh. Couple that with the moderately wide focal length and you have yourself a truly amazing lowlight environmental portrait lens. Its also fairly small and feels incredibly wellmade. Not cheap, but I love it so hard. I bet you will too.
Matthew –
Im a documentaryjournalist video shooter and I love this lens for my work. Like other Sony GM lenses the picture quality is mouth watering. I love the colors it produces. The size is compact and it feels pretty solid although, still not as robust as Canon L glass. I bought this lens for the quality and AF that I occasionally use in my video work and which Sony is finally improving in their A7 series cameras. However, my one complaint exists for this camera like it does with all Sony glass, which is that the MF is horrible. I dont care how many fancy terms Sony uses to describe its new manual focus system, it will never compare to a good ol mechanical MF. If you shoot only MF maybe consider the Sigma, which is a lot cheaper. Its a pricey little fellow, but the MF issue aside, its an amazing lens if youre looking for an ultra fast fixed 24mm.
rldpt –
Just bought my first song a7iii and decided to pair it with this lens. This lens is a Beast Im still new to photographyvideography. I really enjoy the low light capability and the bokeh is beautiful. Ordered near Sept 27 and just received it on Oct 9th since it was back ordered.
John –
Sharp, sharp, sharp and bright I bought this lens because of Allyn Wallaces rave review of it for Astro. But meanwhile Ive been using it for walking around street photography where it is a little wide, but still excels. Especially at night. Buy it, you wont regret it.
david –
A great addition to my tool belt. A very sharp and fast lens and relatively smal and compact. Will be great for landscape
Kevin –
This is a great Lens made from Sony, but most of product lines at Thailand not Japan. If you get a Fujifilm camera you can see everything from Japan. But this Lens is really sharp.
Joe –
I bought this lens mainly for shooting astroaurora stuff a role in which it excels due to its low comma and fast aperture. Ive also discovered that the fast apertureshallow depth of field in combination with wide angle of view opens some very fun creative doors, from wide angle portraits to still lifes. The lens is equally at home shooting landscapes, being nicely sharp corner to corner even wide open. And its OK for infrared photography up to f4 and even f5.6, where a faint but easily correctable hotspot appears. One downside there is some fairly significant vignetting with the lens however. Allinall, Im very happy with the lens.
Alex –
If youre a Sonylover lets be honest, Canons innovation is at snailspeed and want full flexibility in aperture… this is the one. Its less than a pound. Its the best walkaround lens Ive ever used. Keeps an a7R iii kit to under 2.5 lbs.I started off in RAW, but now shoot in extrafine, and the resolutiondetail is absolute sublime. Very happy customer. You can pair this 24 GM with a 70200 GM or the 70300 G and just be fully content with your entire Sony setup. And its true that you can hit the crop button easily, making this puppy a 36mm when you need it and its still 19 MP when cropped. You can do landscape, street photography, group shots, portraits and even stars with it. God bless you Sony.
RichieG28 –
As soon as I saw the option to Add to Cart I bought it, and received it 4 days later. Its simply an AMAZING lens. Its sharp, light and fun to use. No need to really go into detail, Its a G master lens that produces G master quality, its that simple. I also own the 1635 f4, 2470 Gm, and the 85 f1.8. I plan to use this lens for Astro, landscape, street, and creative portraits. Im making this my main lens if i ever need to just carry one. Ive been doing a lot of street photography in NYC and being that its f1.4, the shots i take at night are sharp and crisp. The bokeh is also great, I love how the colors come out of this lens. If youre a photographer who prints large photos, Youre going to love the detail and sharpness this lens offers.
Michael –
This lens is ridiculously versatile with portraits, landscapes, group photos, family portraits, close ups, bokeh… you name it you can use it. I havent really used my 50mm since I got this. Its so good. Cropping in post is great too, especially if you have the a7riii or a7riv. Total treat Auto focus mechanics are spot on too. If you want a bit wider and more sharp, get the 20mm 1.8 G. Its definitely sharper, primarily for landscapes, but if youre like me and do many other styles shoots, grab the 24mm. Even for video this lens is phenomenal
Tristan –
Picked this up a few months back, and yep.. Its as good as everyone makes it out to be. Fast and reliable AF, great for video and manual focus as well. This lens can handle wide shots and close portraits with ease.. I find that it has been on my camera more than I expected it to be. No longer feel the need for the 1635mm
Tristan –
I debated between this and the 1635 GM and am pleased with my decision. Since getting this lens it has rarely left the camera, it may be the most versatile lens Ive used. It can handle portraits and wides both beautifully. Very sharp, focus is great for video as well.
Diego –
if you arent aware by this point Sony has been behind some of the smartest advertising campaigns across youtube. look up any reviews of this lens and search results will be plagued y you tubers being flown to san Fransisco to preview the lens and same people reviewing this lens after a couple weeks of use for their own youth channel.how does this lens perform is it worth the hype I think to some degree it is. with this package you are getting a 24mm lens that shows minimal distortion, goes down to 1.4 and produces very nice out of focus areas. the resolution is very very good even looking at images on a 5k display and seeing the results you get from a7Riii model is amazing.where this lens falls short is wild quality. look at other reviews there are plenty of people complaining about appetite noises this lens producing. I have also noticed focus breathing when this lens is placed on auto focus during video modes.. not that you should e using manual focus anyways.lastly I think my biggest complaint is that the zoom ring feels really bad. Ive had two copies… both from BH the first had a zoom ring that barely had any tactile feel when turning horizontally.. and when the ring was pushed vertically it made some odd clicking noises. the replacement has a much better horizontal zoom action but still exhibits vertical play.in the end is this worth the asking price it depends. you really have to ask yourself what you want this for. astro are you a paid professional dont get caught up in all the Sony hype you see online.. the best gear is what you have. and I bet if you grabbed a kit lens and compared it to this lens on instagram not a lot of people would be able to see much difference
Anonymous –
It has a compact, high resolution, fast prime lens with solid build quality. I cannot be happier with this purchase. However, I find 20mm f1.8G has a better image quality with a lower price.
Mannymixx01 –
This lens is great for low light photography. Nice for astrophotography also when paired with the right camera. My daytime photos also looked awesome . Great bokeh while subjects looked sharp in the foreground.
Brian –
This lens is excellent. Clarity, sharpness,AF speed, light weight. If you shoot Sony and like 24mm just buy this and stop checking online photo forums. Sigma has size AF issues,Batis is great but not as crisp wide open,Loxia is manual. Samyang is a QC gamble. This lens is priced a little high I think all Sony is but if you shoot 24mm a lot or for work, this is the best option.
Bryans –
Hands down one of my favorite lens. Super sharp.I dont regret buying it, but if you can find a cheaper deal or open box, itll be perfect
1309keith52 –
This is a beautiful lens, solidly built, with nice features. It is relatively lightweight for a lens of its type. Importantly, this lens allows enables creative choices not found in slower wide angle lenses. Great fun.
Asib –
First of all, thanks to Pictureline for getting this highdemand, outofstockeverywhere lens in a short period for me. I have used it in last 6 weeks for astrophotography at the Arches NP, Dead Horse Point SP, Canyonlands NP, did hiking with this lens to the Angels Landing at Zion NP, and also did a painting photography session to help one of my artist friends. I waited to write this review to be thorough. Sharpness is an already established trait of the GM lenses, but what amazes me most is the light weight and exceptional comma performance. Honestly, I dont have to stack images to get sharp astro pictures with this lens. Hiking has never been easy Of course, I miss the versatility and perspective offered by the 1635mm zooms……but the 24mm f1.4 gives you something unique. A pro may need and carry both of these lenses. And the wonderful sensor of Sony A7III gives clean single shot images with this lens…I printed a few at 1812 from Costco for an exhibition. The images at ISO 5000 was super sharp. Just saying this to give you a perspective. You just cannot miss these amazing offerings from Sony For the value of your money

Light, fast, sealed and turns into a 35mm on the A7 using superzoom. Wont be coming off the camera for a long time
CasualReviewerPhotographr –
Sonys lenses are of usual high quality. This one pushes above that high standard. For its size it feels light, although the weight of assurance of quality build is present. For now I am using it in my Sony a6000. It feels heavier than the camera, and due to crop sensor it behaves as a 36mm.The speed it focuses is instantaneous, and the Aperture ring in the lens becomes second nature to be used, and an unexpected convenience while filming, as it can have smooth rotation switched on.I cant review 100 about Aperture given I am still using a crop sensor buying soon Sony a7R III to fix that, but at f1.4 the background in close up composition simply melt. A surreal blend of colors that gets me rethinking possibilities of composition.Yes, this lens is FUN to use. It is easy to use and durable, so you dont worry about it too much yet I recommend get the insurance, this is still over a 1000 equipment. It is weather sealed too.Only side notes I can make are that for astrophotography this lens literarily shines. I was in a light polluted area, with rain, and the Autofocus still locked with precision at f1.4 at stars, like magic…And the Extra customizable button to side is only programmable in newer Sony Cameras, and mostly Full Frame. Certainly not in Sony a6000.And by the way, get this lens regardless of using a Crop Sensor or Full Frame, price bites, but when you are having fun with wide angles and landscapes, or low depth of field close ups, you will grin.

This is my second Sony G Master lens in addition to my 2470 2.8 GM. So far I have no put this lens down Picture quality is absolutely amazing paired with my A7Rii. The bokeh is fantastic, it is much lighter than my 2470, and overall it is just a great lens to walk around with. If you can get your hands on one….buy it

Out of all the GMasters Ive used Canon glass, too, this lens has been my absolute favorite to use. Tack sharp, incredible low light performance, no wideangle distortion or none that I immediately notice on people up close.I cannot believe I didnt buy this thing sooner. Stayed on my A7R4 all day for my last wedding.

Awesome lens, works great with my A7sII. Definitely recommend the lens for some awesome shots.
Amanda –
SO far I love the image quality of the lens. I like that its smaller and lighter than other G series lenses I have purchased for my Sony A7III. However, I still think its a bit large for the mirrorless camera, even though its full frame. As a prime lens I would love for it to be a bit smaller.
J –
Great lens. Not quite the improvement over the kit lens that I was expecting but is very sharp. Autofocus is a little noisy but not bad. Really sharp even at f16
Kevin –
Ive been a pro for 30 years. Own lots of equipment including some of the best lenses on the market. This 24mm is so ridiculously sharp that I am still surprised, even after reading other purchasers and reviewers comments. Bokeh is beautiful. Lens is beautifully constructed and the declick works flawlessly. Auto focus is fast and accurate. I put this lens in the same caliber bag as my 90mm G, 55mm Sonner, 85 1.2L II Canon 70200 4.0L IS Canon.

A stand out amongst my other native glass. Its getting as much time as my beloved 55 1.8 lens, and checks many of the same boxes but its faster and had better ergonomics. What isnt to like Price Cry once.
Simmodddjjj –
Excellent resolution, well designed and made lens, with a great combination of size and weight.
Sean –
This lens is amazing. The results at f1.4 are excellent. I have a sony 24105mm so I was on the fence about getting another lens at the 24mm focal length. Let me just save you the hassle. Just get the lens. Its that good.

No disrespect to G MASTER GEEKS but if you do this more for a hobby and for fun and maybe somewhat get paid in the future Id go with the 20mm G lens over this lens literally owned both of these and it was no different..YOUTUBERS who are paid to tell you things will say GM GM GM ….sony did such a great job on the 20mm 1.8 that is 2yrs newer in technology that it should be labeled a GM …in my opinion this lens was not worth 500 dollars more…you dont have to be professional to have 2020 vision or have the eye for photography…I put average because its a great lens but way too close to a 20mm 1.8 this lens is actually sharper at 1.7 which matches the sharpness of the 20mm do as you please but I wont make 1500 doing this for my hobby so I took this back to avoid 15 restocking fee and kept my 20mm 1.8..

Absolutely incredible. I took some family portraits and some astrophotography over the holiday and was amazed by the quality of the pictures. The photos of the night sky were particularly incredible. At Fstop 1.4 and 18th second shutter, the amount of detail in the night sky that was capture was nothing short of astonishing. Orion and the little dipper jumped out of the picture, and did several other star clusters. Increasing to the max of 20 seconds without starstreaking, turned night into day, and yet still had incredible details of the starts in the sky.
Ron –
All the reviews are right. This is the best 24mm prime for Sony and one of my favorite lenses period. Zoom shooters, sorry, your zoom might cover 24mm, but it does not look this good.
Alfred –
I have been utilizing BH to build a interest in photography for my son. They have everything and it has been a ease to do what we set out. He is moving forward and building a small business.
Ian –
Flawless quality, superb in lowlight, great for both landscape photography and indoor shots. Aperture ring works great.
VictorD –
This is simply a phenomenal lens superbly clear especially towards the center, and of course on the Sony you could always use apsc mode so you could technically shoot 35 mm equivalent… This lens gets the job done and has incredibly fast focus on top of being very sharp
Patrick –
I would recommend the 24 Gmaster lens. The lens has great optical quality and is lightweight compared to the other Gmaster lineup. The lens has useful features as well such as the focus hold button and the ability to declick the aperture ring. Oh yeah, it has an aperture ring Very nice to have that as I am coming from the Fujifilm system and miss having that on the lens. Check out comparisons to the 25f2 Zeiss Batis and Sigma 24 and even Sony 28f2 before dropping 14 on this guy. But if money is no problem, I can see this being in quite a few kits.
Gregory –
This lens continues Sonys high standards in its G Master line. It is sharp, sharp, sharp and fast focusing. Despite being a wide angle, the bokeh is as beautiful as it gets. I will say this, however I bought this lens after using a Zeiss Batis 25mm f2 lens for over a year and I would say that the two lenses are mostly on par with each other. If youre thinking about changing to the Sony 24 f1.4 from the Zeiss, I dont think it is necessarily worth the cost.
Alison –
I bought this lens for use on a backpack trip in the mountains . I wanted a wide angle to capture the whole scene and it did that beautifully while being relatively lightweight. The results are sharp and beautiful. Im so thankful to have this lens. It was a joy to use and let me be creative.
Martin –
Sharpness and autofocus are great. Not too much distortion. Great for chasing my somewhat clingy toddler. Minus one star because the weather sealing gasket doesnt actually touch the mount on my A7iii. It might not be necessary to seal the mount interface, but putting in a fake gasket seems dishonest. Otherwise I totally love the images this lens can produce. I will say that close up two to three feet away face detection with the A7iii leaves something to be desired, unless the subject is really facing you.
Rob –
Pros Quality of the lens, from build to images produced, are out of this world. It hasnt come off my camera since it arrived and Im now concerned that my other lenses have become pointless to me.Cons Expensive
Shida –
Truly the best 24mm for SONY FE mount. Prior to receiving this lens, I rented the Sigma equivalent on a trip abroad and that lens pales in comparison in terms of autofocus unsurprisingly since its not built as a native lens from scratch like the SONY GM.The premium for the SONY GM variant is definitely worth the extra if you shoot anything that moves at all.
Zak –
Theres a reason it has been hard to get one. Outstanding image quality. Sharp when wide open. Lightweight. Minimal chromatic aberration.
Jimmy –
Purchased this lens 2 weeks ago and I love it I use it for close ups and Landscapes. Very sharp over the entire frame. It is permanently attached to one of my cameras now Great service from BH
Juan –
This lens is a huge game changer for me. One of the best run and gun lenses I have used and puts alot of bang to your buck. The f 1.4 is truly amazing and the lens itself has alot of variability with its manual focus dial and aperture dial. I was skeptical between getting this lense and a Weiss lens. I have no regrets on my decision.
David –
For the past 6 months the 1635 GM has been the primary lens on my A7R3 as a walk around combination. The 24mm GM finally arrived after a 3 month wait and it hasnt been off my camera. Its so light and I love the aperture ring on the lenslike on my 85mm GM and the sharpness of the images are fantastic. Good job Sony
Paul –
First off, this lens produces spectacular images..just amazing rendering and sharpness. As good as it gets. However my copy makes audible noise when focusing aperture blade and motor movement. Not only can I hear this, I actually can feel inner components moving. Sony told me the lens should be silent so I have requested an exchange which BH is doing right now. Will update review when second copy has been received and I can compare its performance to the first.
Ben –
For such a small lens, this baby packs a punch. Honestly, its a truly magnificent piece of glass. Tack sharp, even wide open. This is probably going to be my goto lens for most of the work I dointeriors, street, architecture, lifestyle, wedding and yeah, even portraits. Sure, its not cheap but when you see the pictures this bad boy delivers, youll soon consider it a smackinthefacebargain.
Jonathan –
I was lucky enough to track down one of these after numerous phone calls to every store within 100 miles, and it is AMAZING. Let me put it this way my wife, a non photographer whos seen many images of mine from other lenses, saw a couple of tester shots from this afternoon when I was editing them and she was blown away. Its not only better in a way that only photographers would notice. Its just amazing.Jonathan
angelusx –
Perfect lens. Incredible bokeh. I would recommend this to any professionals out there. For this price Come on, its worth it
Phillip –
Lately, this and the 50mm 1.4 Zeiss has been my favorite street photography lens. Always have the two in my camera bag. But this, has overwhelmingly been my default lens. What a joy to shoot with.
Paul –
I actually tried two copies of this lens to confirm that focus noise, aperture noise, and some tactile thumping during focus is normal for this lens. Both lenses behaved identically. This lens is crazy sharp essentially at all apertures. I actually took it on a golf outing and was able to crop down a very small area with great resolution. Appears very sharp, even at corners, wide open. No question this is a stellar lens and a must have if you need an auto focuse lens in this focal length. Ideal for landscape, interior shots, and portraits if used correctly.
Derrick –
Was looking for a lens that would allow me to shoot full body subjects laying on the floor without having to climb a ladder. This one does the trick perfectly without distorting things so much that they look bizarre. There is certainly edge of frame distortion to watch out for but thats to be expected at this wide of an angle. Also, kinda hard to keep your feet out of it haha.A step stool is still highly useful, but it doesnt have to be 15 feet off the ground like with my 50mm lens

I was able to take this lens up to the Tetons just a few days after purchasing it and it was wonderful to use for landscape photos and astro photography. Im also using it around the house for pet portraits and just playing around. The size an weight is very manageable
Ron –
First, Im not a Pro photographer. I bought this lens to shoot star laps, time laps and wildlife landscapes shots with my Sony A7III.Every article that I read and saw on YouTube so far seems to be true. The lens is super fast with the F1.4 aperture and crystal tack sharp focus across the entire frame. The auto focus is super fast and quiet also. The more I use this lens the more things Im finding to use it for. I really like the difference in the depth of field and is works awesome on my camera when using it on my Ronin S gimbal. Even using it for close up shots like portraits or pets works really great also. The only downside I would say about it so far is the price. But when you see the photos that come out it, all I can say is Wow, you defiantly get what you paid for. When my friends see my photos they think I am a pro, but thats because they dont know any better
Marc –
The Sony 241.4 GMaster is one of a handful of FE mount lenses able to fully resolve the A7RIVs 61 meg sensor. It is surprisingly compact and light weight for a f1.4 WA lens. It has 11 rounded Iris blades to produce a very pleasing Bokeh. Focuses down to just under 10 minimum distance.
Bill –
Perfect for shooting in the dark as well as landscapes. 24mm has the best view angle for outdoor videos.
Tarik –
Sharpness is excellent But there is either a problem with QC or engineering at Sony because the lens makes a variety of noises when being operated in the various videophoto modes of my a7Riii.. I love the focal length, sharpness, ergo, but come on Sony, at this price point and for a GM lens, you really have to do better. Disappointed.
Alex –
I upgraded to this from my 28mm F2. Its a little wider in the field of view, has a faster aperture and looks amazing. I use it for recording YouTube videos and I noticed a big difference in the colors and contrast right away. Ive taken a few stills and they came out great also. If you have a full frame Sony this is a must have.
Bill –
My favorite lens for landscape and outdoor people video. I totally love this lens. It is amazing in low light outdoors. Gets an even better low light image than expected for f1.4 and that is amazing. The best landscape night lens.
Maria –
Love the lens and how it capture very good quality of image. I was skeptical at first because of the price, but its worth the price.
Gonzalo –
This lens is amazing. Shoot wide open for great bokeh. Its not small, but its not heavy. Autofocus with Sony cameras is extremely good. I would get this lens again without question. The quality of the GM build made me switch my 85mm Zeiss Batis for a GM.
Nathan –
Fantastic lens. My first experience using a G Master lens and Im continually blown away with every use. Worth every penny. I use it for a mix of photography and video.
Jonathan J –
I love this lens. The F1.4 aperture is awesome and this lens is sharp as a tack. The best part is how compact and light it is. It great to use with a gimbal.
Cody –
We use this lens in conjunction with our gimbals for weddings, events, and broll. Looks amazing, great buy
NextGenTV –
Excellent lens with amazing quality that you would expect to find in a prime lens. I have it matched with my Sony A6600 and I am very happy with the purchase. I use it mostly for real estate and marketing videospictures which turn out great. Hoping to use it for landscapes and astrophotography soon.
Sam –
I just recently purchased my own copy of this lens and my comments reflect my previous experience by renting one for an international trip I had. If my copy is as good as the one I rented then Im sure Ill be as happy with the outstanding results I had during my trip. I took two lenses on my trip, 1 Sony 1635 F2.8 GM and 2 the rental version of this one. In 10 days in Asia, I shot with the 24mm GM about 90 of the time for these reasons Lightweight, Low light capability, great focal length for both city and landscapes, great autofocus capabilities in low light on my A7R IV, and awesome shallow depth of field for portraits. For the results I got and those reasons, I purchased my own copy. Im not ready to sell my 1635mm GM yet but I can see this lens on my camera most of the time and a true WiNNER
Igor –
Was very concerned about the loud noises it made while focusing. Loud on auto, but super loud on aperture priority. I checked online and many people have reported this issue. Came close to returning it for another but seems to be the norm for this lens. Quality of photos are amazing, some distortion in the corners sometimes but all correctible. In any case, love the lens. My new walking around lens. Too bad I cant say the same thing about the awful customer service at BH.
Alexander –
What an amazing lens Very sharp and accurate focus. This lens is now my everyday lens on my a7iii. Absolutely worth every penny
