I recently purchased the RØDE VideoMicro Compact On-camera Directional Microphone for Filmmaking, and I must say, I am impressed with its performance. This microphone is an excellent addition to my filmmaking gear and has improved the audio quality of my videos. The microphone is incredibly compact and lightweight, making it easy to carry around with me wherever I go. It’s also very easy to mount on my camera, and the directional design helps to reduce background noise and capture clear audio. The build quality of the microphone is impressive, and it feels sturdy and well-made in my hand. The included furry windscreen is a great addition, which helps to reduce wind noise when filming outdoors. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase of the RØDE VideoMicro Compact On-camera Directional Microphone for Filmmaking. It’s an excellent microphone for those who are just starting with filmmaking or those who want a reliable and affordable microphone for everyday use. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve the audio quality of their videos. 5 people found this helpful

Had been happily using a pair of Flip 5’s for nearly 2 years in my conservatory. Sound quality was excellent for such a small speaker & they were impervious to drastic changes in temperature & humidity, but when Gadget Tree heavily discounted the price of the Charge 5 in February 2023 I couldn’t resist & bought two. A year later I am still amazed how good they are. Detail & dynamics are very good, bass & treble can be a touch overblown on some lesser quality recordings, but well mixed music sounds incredible! OK, these may lack the smooth definition & control of my lovely super-duper real HI-Fi system in the lounge, but they are simple to set up with no cables to worry about & just so much fun to listen to! I use them about 8 feet apart in stereo mode, slightly toed in, with me making up an equilateral triangle & stereo imagery, although not pin-point, is surprisingly good! So far they have proved completely reliable. I switch on the left speaker, it pairs within 3 seconds, I switch on party boost, (which I originally set to stereo when I bought them), repeat the process for the right speaker, press play on my phone & that’s it – Simple – less time thinking Hi-Fi, more time listening to music! UPDATE 19th August 2024: Still very happy with these, so when Gadget Tree dropped the price of the teal model, (which I’ve always fancied) to an irresistible £99.99p I splashed out & bought a pair for the conservatory & moved the black ones upstairs to serenade me on the treadmill. UPDATE 22nd December 2024: After regular daily use, both pairs still sounding excellent & I seem to be using them more than the hi-fi! 10 people found this helpful

By now you’ll have noticed that the built in recording function on your camera or device sounds terrible and you’re looking to improve the quality of you’re production. The biggest appeal of this model is the fact that it has no battery. You simply plug it into your recording device (camcorder, dslr etc.) and your ready to go hence the name. There are advantages and disadvantages to this but it’s up to you what you’re after. For me it’s been an awesome addition to my home setup so i’m not fussed. With that said here are some of the pros and cons. PROs: -The mic itself is very light, has a sleek design and can fit into your back pocket. -It comes with a lengthy 3.5mm jack which you can connect direct to your dslr and it’ll start working. -The mic is attached to a shock absorption stand that reduces noise and vibrations and can be attached direct to a hot shoe mount. -The sound quality pre-processing is great for the price and has a decent frequency response range with background noise. CONs: -The design of the mic means it protrudes at the back so its not level with camera. Wouldn’t say it’s a big deal but if you’re looking through the view finder odds are its going to bonk you on the forehead. -Has no built-in pre-amp, battery or high pass filter, hence why you can get interference, noise and the sound quality is slightly lower at the same level as more advanced rode models. -You have to purchase an SC7 cable if you want to use with an iphone or android phone. – Can get interference if dslr wifi is on so switch it off before use. Overall i’m pretty satisfied with the mic it’s been with me for a while and I’ve always had it connected to one of my cameras or phone recording content even after getting better mics. I’m aware of some complaints about hisses, clicks and interference but to summarise all of those issues are the result of the camera or lens and it’s internal settings. Simply switching to manual mode get’s rid of all those problems. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone getting started. 20 people found this helpful

I have used several Rode mics over the years and have been generally impressed with the sound quality. I bought a Rode VideoMicro (original model) a few years for my Panasonic X920 camcorder and, being very light and compact it is easy to use and copes with windy conditions quite well using the furry windshield. Reading reviews of the new VideoMicro II I decided to invest in one. It is also light and compact, has an improved mount design and a more directional sound pick up. I used it on my camcorder in the summer but delayed editing until recently. Indoor use was fine. However, outdoor footage was marred by low rumbling wind noise and distortion. I then tested VideoMicro II against the VideoMicro and found that the newer model is certainly much worse at handling wind noise. Using the Low Cut setting on my camera improves the situation and I have yet to test this fully on the two mics. Viewing a comparison test on YouTube confirmed my findings that the VideoMicro II does not handle wind noise at all well. I will in future use my original VideoMicro for outdoor situations and keep the VideoMicro II for indoors where the more directional pickup will hopefully prove its worth. 3 people found this helpful

As an avid filmmaker, I needed a reliable microphone that could capture crisp and clear audio while being compatible with my GoPro 10. Let me share my experience with this fantastic device that enhanced my filmmaking endeavors. Sound Quality That Exceeds Expectations: One of the most remarkable features of the RØDE VideoMicro is its exceptional sound quality. It captures audio with an impressive level of clarity and richness, providing a significant improvement over the built-in microphone of the GoPro 10. Whether recording in loud or quiet environments, this microphone brings out the finest details in audio, making every video cinematic and professional. Directional Design Perfect for Filmmaking: The VideoMicro’s directional pickup pattern is another standout feature. The microphone captures sound primarily from the front while minimizing background noise, ensuring that the main subject’s audio is the focus. This proves to be incredibly useful when shooting in noisy environments, allowing for clear dialogue and immersive storytelling without any unwanted distractions. Compact and Convenient: Designed to be mounted on a camera or camcorder, the VideoMicro’s size is compact and lightweight. This makes it an ideal companion for my GoPro 10, as it doesn’t add any significant bulk or weight to my setup. I appreciate that it doesn’t compromise mobility, providing convenience during extensive filming sessions or when on the move. Durable Construction: Built to withstand the challenges of on-the-go filmmaking, the RØDE VideoMicro boasts a sturdy and durable construction. The microphone is encased in a rugged metal body, offering longevity and protection against accidental bumps or drops. I feel confident that this microphone will withstand the rigors of my filmmaking adventures, ensuring it will continue to deliver stellar audio quality for years to come. Easy Setup and Versatile Compatibility: Setting up the VideoMicro is as simple as plugging it into the GoPro 10’s external microphone port. Its universal 3.5mm TRS connector makes it compatible with a wide range of devices, including various cameras, smartphones, and even laptops. This versatility allows me to seamlessly switch between different filmmaking equipment without any hassle, ensuring I never miss an opportunity to capture incredible audio. Conclusion: The RØDE VideoMicro Compact On-camera Directional Microphone has indeed enhanced my GoPro 10 filmmaking experience. Its outstanding sound quality, compact design, easy setup, and durable construction make it a fantastic investment for any filmmaker seeking professional audio results. Whether you’re recording dialogue, interviews, or ambient sounds, this microphone delivers exceptional performance. January 2025 Style Name: VideoMic GO i’m so happy that i bought this mic, the difference in sound quality with it and without it is huge, you can tell instantly if a video is recorded without the mic on.

The RODE VideoMicro microphone surprised me with its impressive sound quality given its price point. For an on-camera microphone, it captures clear audio, focusing mostly on mid-frequencies. While it lacks a bit of bass, adjustments can easily be made during editing if needed. In my experience, the microphone effectively isolated my voice even with background music in the room behind the camera. Its directional capability shines, maintaining clarity despite some variation when music is played in front of it. I haven’t tested it in loud environments, but from what I’ve experienced so far, it performs admirably. However, VideoMicro’s performance has limitations beyond a certain distance—beyond approximately 1.5 meters, it isn’t as effective. One impressive feature is its reliance on the camera’s power due to its compact design, eliminating the need for additional batteries. Simply connect it to the camera using the provided SC2 3.5mm cable, and you’re ready to record hassle-free. Should you wish to connect the VideoMicro to a smartphone, a separate SC7 cable compatible with TTRS audio jacks, such as those on iPhones and iPads, is necessary. Overall, for its price and functionality, the RODE VideoMicro is a worthy investment, providing commendable audio quality for on-the-go recording without the fuss of extra batteries. 9 people found this helpful
