Description
VideoMic Me Directional Microphone for Smartphones. The VideoMicro is a compact microphone designed to improve the audio quality of your videos. There is a bit of conventional wisdom that goes something like, “Half of good video is good audio.” And it’s true. Say you’re recording a video of a live performance. Who cares if the band looks like they’re cooking if it doesn’t sound great; The VideoMicro incorporates a high-quality cardioid condenser microphone capsule for great quality audio recordings when used with a wide range of cameras. The VideoMicro reduces distracting peripheral sounds and focuses on the audio in front of the camera. Its pickup is more forgiving than other on-camera microphones, providing a more natural sound when recording indoors. The microphone body is made from aluminum, giving it a high level of RF rejection, and is finished in RODE’s high-grade ceramic anti-glare black coating. Included with the VideoMicro is a camera shoe mount featuring a Rycote Lyre shockmount. Featuring a suspension structure composed of a rugged thermoplastic, it is far more effective at minimizing unwanted vibrations, handling and cable-borne noise than traditional elastic suspensions. The Rycote Lyre will never sag, snap, wear out or require rethreading to maintain its effectiveness. Also included is the WS9 synthetic furry wind screen with foam inner cell, designed for use in outdoor scenarios where wind and environmental noise can inhibit recordings. I bought this to improve my YouTube videos for my sons channel (Henry’s Hysterical History). The videos before this were suffering from wind noise and were picking up a lot of background audio that I didn’t want. The microphone comes with a wind muffler to reduce wind noise. This is effective, but doesn’t fit as tightly as I would like – I am genuinely worried at times ti will fall off if I’m tipping the mic forwards so might look at other attachment methods. The clipping method is brilliant and works flawlessly on my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. I also use this with my DJI Osmo Gimbal so have bought an extension cable to mount the microphone onto the gimbal instead. Directional audio has vastly improved the sound quality and allows me to focus the audio recording on the subject of the video and cut out a lot of background cars or chatter. Overall I highly recommend this if you plan on using your videos for anything more than home use. Audio is hard to fix in post production so getting it right first time is a life saver. 15 people found this helpful

and the manufacturer is perfectly succesful in this. Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 October 2024 Style Name: VideoMic Me-C It is intended to be a direction mic, and the manufacturer is perfectly successful in this. It is simple to use and gives good quality sound if used correctly: pointed toward the source, hairy wind cover used, not too close or too far from the source. One person found this helpful

September 2024 Style Name: VideoMic Me-L I use a quad lock phone case and it impossible to fit with the case on, Other than that sounds great, feels quality, made well, and comes with a big deadcat Just lost a star because of the compatibility with phone case, if it was just a few mm longer

It’s small and you just plug it in to your phone and off you go, but the sound isn’t much better than your iPhone. Slightly better, but not way better. I was disappointed. And for the price it’s not really worth it. Better to fork out for a Yeti and plug that in to your phone (you have e to fork out another £25 for the Apple camera converter as well), because then, with a longish wire, it can be right close to you, which will always give better sound. But if you were out and about this could be in your pocket and would be better than just your phone. One person found this helpful

To me, this is a must-have for anyone wanting to shoot video on an iPad or iPhone. It’s small and it’s simple and it solves the two main problems of the inbuilt mic: First, because it’s directional, it doesn’t pick up breathing and sniffing noises from the operator like the phone’s inbuilt mic does. Secondly, it comes with a fuzzy windcover, which is extremely effective at cutting out wind noise, which otherwise ruins so many videos. Now, this is not a “shotgun mic”, and never claims to be, and it’s all the better for it. A shotgun mic is a log tube mic that is highly directional. Short shotgun mics are rarely much use. The VideoMic Me has a cardioid (heart-shaped) pickup pattern, so it picks up more sound from the side than a true shotgun would, but it really isn’t an issue. The only problem I have with this is that it’s only for phones, so there’s no way to mount it on a DSLR camera for instance. It’s nice whendevices can be easily shared between different filming rigs, but sadly this isn’t one of those times. This also means the VideoMic Me is really only for the phone/tablet in a plain configuration. I’ve just bought an iOgrapher case for my iPad Mini, and the VideoMic Me doesn’t fit. Well, you can just squeeze it in and no more, but the mic contacts the case, picking up a lot of handling noise, and the fluffy windcover often brushes against your hand, making it an extra source of noise. I was going to look into building an adaptor to site it elsewhere on the case, but as this mic has no suspension, the handling noise would still be a problem. Oh, and one little tip: the VideoMic Me doesn’t come with a carrying pouch of any kind, but with the windshield on, it’s just the right size to fit in the end of an old sock. This keeps the fluffy material from getting trapped and pulled, or embedded with dirt. 17 people found this helpful

December 2024 Style Name: VideoMic Me-C Picks up the deepness of my voice when singing. Sound quality brilliant, especially compared to the microphone on my iPhone 15 Pro Max.
