Before buying this lens just be aware that it is a micro 4/3 lens which means it will only fit M4/3 camera (Lumix G and such) it won’t fit full frame or APS-C without an adapter! Additionally M4/3 crop factor means that while this is a 25mm lens it is actually the equivalent to 50mm on a full frame camera. Before I talk about what I like and don’t like about this lens let me give you some context. (skip to the end for pros and cons) Earlier in the year I purchased a Panasonic Lumix GH5 with the standard 12-60mm f/3.5 kit lens. I mainly use it for personal photo and video work, but have done some semi-professional projects with it too. And, while the kit lens is good it isn’t amazing. It doesn’t quite give you that professional outcome you desire when purchasing an expensive camera. I never quite got the bokeh effect (background blur) I wanted. I was a bit disappointed, and even thought about getting a new camera, since this wasn’t giving me the result I wanted. Additionally, I’m fairly new to this, and I know with the right know-how you can make even a cheap camera create amazing results, but I am still developing that skillset. Fast forward a little, I did some research and looked into buying a new lens. I came across this 25mm (50mm equivalent) f/1.7 and realised it may give me a slightly better result. Safe to say it absolutely did. This lens completely saved my camera from being traded in and gave me the professional quality I sought after. The images included were all taken with this lens and have not been edited. I couldn’t believe the result all from slapping it on and using autofocus. So let’s talk about what works: – Outstanding picture quality – Quick and reliable autofocus (I have also tried this with video and the results blew me away) – Amazing bokeh effect – can’t stress how impresses I was with this – Definitely great value for money What could be improved?: – Colours look a bit flat (honestly this could just be the way I have my camera set but things just don’t look too vibrant) – made of plastic – not really an issue for me but if you’re particular about your lenses then you may want to spend more on a metal lens. But as I said, to me this doesn’t really matter. Hope this helps anyone researching cameras and lenses. If you have a M4/3 and want a lens to create a great bokeh effect for photo or video then you can’t go wrong with this one. 30 people found this helpful

I’m from the old school of photography I admit it. Film SLR’s I have bought in the past all came with a fast 50mm lenses and I grew to love that angle of view – It just seems (to me) to be the natural way to see the world. Moving on to the digital age and using “kit” lenses with various digital cameras, I tend to set the zoom at around 50mm or 35mm (equivalent). I have recently purchased a Panasonic Lumix Micro 4/3 camera with 12-32mm “kit” lens – An excellent lens – Very sharp and perfect for travel etc. However at my preferred 25mm (50mm equiv.) the lens is down to f5.2 wide open, which on a dull day forces the ISO up for a given shutter speed. With this (H-H025E) lens I have over 3 stops advantage – That’s the difference between being able to shoot at ISO 200 rather than ISO 1600. My initial test shots show the lens to be very sharp from f1.7 to about f11 where image quality starts to drop off (due to diffraction). Lovely smooth focusing ring, light as a feather (125g), metal mount and with a matching lens hood. OK, it’s plastic, but so is the Olympus 25mm f1.8 at twice the price. Only down side is that there is no image stabilization built in, but that’s a small price to pay considering the price of the lens. Highly recommended 33 people found this helpful

At first I was a little underwhelmed when opening this lens, the build quity isn’t even on par with my 14-42 Olympus kit lens. Price in mind I guess I shouldn’t of expected more. Taking it out for a few test shoots it seems to focus quite fast on my EM10 MK2 and overall the images seem good, but it doesn’t make me go wow like the 45mm f1.8 Olympus lens does. I do need to give it some more use but so far my experience of the lens is it performs well but if you have the kit lens I’d be hard pushed to recommend this over it unless you shoot a lot of low light and need the F1.7. 4 people found this helpful

I got mine only yesterday and haven’t had the chance to do much testing yet but from what I have done I can say that this is indeed an incredible value lens. Autofocus is indeed very fast, much more so than my 14-42mm Olympus kit lens, and the focus is very accurate. Picture quality has only been tested indoors so any comments at this point I think would not do it justice but I can say that it is definitely sharper than my kit lens and nicely blurs the background. I love how compact and light it is and although it’s an all plastic build it doesn’t feel cheap to me. I’m really loving this lens so far and cannot wait to try it out outdoors. 2 people found this helpful

I purchased this lens for my Panasonic G7 and I’m so glad I did. Firstly, the built quality is excellent for something in this price range. The body is plastic, but it feels very solid and the mount is metal.The focus ring is buttery smooth and the lens itself is very light, but doesn’t come across cheap. It comes with a lens hood which looks a bit excessive but it does the job, and it’s nice of Panasonic to include it in the box *cough* Olympus *cough*. The image quality on this is fantastic. Even when shooting wide open, it’s very sharp and there’s barely (if any) chromatic aberration. The sharpness improves even further at F4 and F5.6 and it’s very usable up to F16, though I wouldn’t go any further than that. There can be some slight vignetting but it’s nothing to worry about, and I like to add some in post production anyway so it’s no concern for me. Of course one of the main reasons for getting this lens is the shallow depth of field, otherwise known as “bokeh” and this lens certainly does not disappoint. If you look at the example images, you’ll see the creamy soft background, and you don’t need to shoot wide open to achieve these results, just get closer to the object. To sum up, it’s a fantastic lens at a fantastic price and if I was looking for my first 25mm (50mm on a full frame) fast prime lens I would look no further than to get this. Just do it. P.S.
