I bought this two years ago as a student who was had about a year of decent experience under my belt. I have since graduated and landed an internship and now a full time job purely because of my portfolio that i put together with the video work I made using this cameraI understand that everyone has different tastes and preferences and a camera is only a tool but this camera has gone above and beyond for me. doing ad work and passion projects i can always get the look i want. going handheld is no problem with the AMAZING in body stabilization. The 4K 60fps looks amazing and heck, even the 180fps looks way better than 120fps on any of the Sony mirrorless cameras. Good battery life, dual recording slots, no record limit, 10 bit, 422. In my opinion this camera still beats out all of its competitors.Ive had my eye on the BMPCC4K for the Raw but even that needs an extra 2,000 to run its best and loses its ability to be run and gun camera. All in all, I am extremely happy with this camera and cant recommend it enough.

This cameralens kit is the most bang for the buck Its well known among seasoned pros and budding film makers Its got many professional features that are only found on cameras literally costing tens of thousands of dollars more This cameras capabilities are phenomenal Check out 4k 60fps video shot in Vlog and properly edited color graded. Theyre all over YouTube and Vimeo The evidence is out there. I did meticulous research and I can only conclude with MOST BANG FOR THE BUCK

When it came out a lot of people were pissed that they remove camera stabilization. It was a trade off for the slightly larger sensor. BUT this is a serious video camera that takes ok still. If you want it for run and gun and logging get the non S. But if you want the best by far MFT video camera get the S. It has everything that my much more expensive high end video cameras do, incredible format choices, tools like wave form, vector scopes, histograms, line, mic and phantom powered audio, 14 stops of dynamic range in the included VLOG profiles, a lot of built in profiles and much more. The most impressive thing is slow motion in 4k that looks very good. The 240 fps in HD is pretty incredible too. I fly it on a Ronin S, perfect match especially with the flip out screen.

We sold an FS7 to invest in a GH5 and GH5S to shoot a 30 min doc for NHS England recently, with lovely results. We used the GH5S model for static interviews and the regular GH5 for actuality the GH5 IBIS is so effective, we no longer take a tripod on actuality shoots. These cameras deliver incredible results just as good as actually better than the FS7, with a very small and discrete footprint. The XLR sound module is excellent quality with very low noise preamps and we keep it all together on a Smallrig cagehelmet kit. Stuff to consider transcode rushes to ProResHQ, as the native GH5 422 10 bit files are unwieldy in most NLEs, even with a proxy workflow. Lenses 1235 and 35100 are our goto actuality lenses. Leica 15mm1.7 and 42.51.2 Nocticron are gorgeous for static interviews. 42.5 Nocticron also has IS, so its a fab, lowlight, luxurious, stabilised, quality telephoto actuality lens. Batteries be careful not to let the battery die midshot, as you will end up with a corrupted file that is difficult or impossible to fix. Bottom line were really invested in the MFT system, not interested in full frame, and were looking forward to whatever Panasonic has up its sleeves for us next… GH6 BGH1

Great camera. Bought for 4K video work and as a step up from my GH4. I shoot solo documentary style and short films. The GH5S has been a solid reliable workhorse with a fantastic image. Its a beast for time lapse work and makes easy work of even complex shot sets. It is also surprisingly good for stills work. The sensor has a great dynamic range and is great for both colour and monochrome photography.

This camera when paired with the Leica 1260mm f2.8f4 lens is an amazing combination The five axis stabilization in the camera works amazingly well with the stabilization with this lens allowing for smooth walking without the need of any other stabilization Im talking rock steady like are you kidding me This is unheard of until now The auto focus for video works very well but its important to watch youtube videos to learn how to set it up properly. The out of the box settings are not the best. I suggest watching the videos by Photo Joseph on youtube who has people from Panasonic on there really explaining what you need to know to get maximum use out of this camera The batteries in this camera at the highest 4K setting do not last quite as long as they do in the GH4, but still last significantly longer than the ones in the Sony a7sII. So pick up some extras to have on hand. The quality of the video out of this camera is unbelievable If you plan on shooting at 10bit 422 in 4K this camera gives you billions of colors that must be seen to really be appreciated If you want to take full advantage of what the camera is capable of then purchase the VlogL which gives you a flat profile with aWide Dynamic Range of up to 12 Stops perfect for color grading to get that cinematic look The key is not a download but will be shipped to you. Follow the book exactly to install. I would also suggest saving up and getting the Ninja Inferno Monitor and recorder which will allow you to record 10bit 422 4K footage at 60fps in Apples high res codex much easier for editing I am beyond happy with the GH5 Panasonic really listened to the consumers and the pros to put out this work of art Oh, and it takes outstanding pictures too Get ready to smile

Im a stills shooter just launching into video. I wanted a competent video camera to start and wow, this GH5 is just that. The image quality is superb and together with the amazing dual stabilisation feature makes easy to get smooth footage, even for a beginner. The stills image quality is also very good, good enough for professional use in my opinion. I am able to push the stills in Lightroom much further than I expected to perhaps bring back a blown out sky for example. Low light looks good too and much better than you hear on you tube etc. Even my full frame camera is noisy at 6400, so is this Panasonic. 3200 iso is perfectly usable to me, and I am impressed. The camera is built very well, inspires confidence, feels pro. To top it, its a fraction of the size of my full frame gear, makes me wonder if I should swap to micro four thirds complete. Will need more time to evaluate that, in the meantime I am lucky to have both systems. My thanks to Panasonic for this amazing and fun camera, its simply brilliant.

Okay, the Sony A7III has better auto focus and low light after ISO 10,000. Yes the Black Magic Pocket Cinema 4k has the best overall IQ under an Arri Amira. But TELL YOU WHAT… The GH5S has better IQ than the Sony overall due to 10bit and better color science But the better weather proofing and video centric features peaking, zebras, luts etc make it just simply the better out of the box solution for Pro Level Video The BMPCC4K is just plain NOT ready right out of the box due to 5 minute battery life rigging needsrequirements to get the most out of it. This compact beast just plain eats low light has been gifted with a ready to work right out the box feature set by Panasonic Weather sealing, peaking, vectors, zebras, luts, 2 hr battery life not to mention access to larger batteries. unlimited record times, limitless lens choices, SMALL FORM FACTOR, customization GALORE, great OS and more make this a right out the box monster The Sony is good no doubt, but, just didnt check off some key boxes mainly data rates that relate to color grading and image quality. The BMPCC4K is super great, but its just missing lots of smaller filmmaker tools like a useful LCD that at least tilts, high speed 4k without a crop, a form factor that doesnt require larger gimbals and plates but this thing has the absolute BEST IQ out right now. Overall, the GH5S will simply solve 80 of filmmakers needs without much rigging or work. Need a gimbal Grab a Moza Air or Moza Air 2 and film Want that indie filmmaker look Grab a lowcost 80 camvate cage, some handles and GO Cartel Land The Rode mic and spare battery in this kit are a plus The only feature one could ask for is better auto focus… But hey, Im doing excellent without it… And so are the thousands of pros who dont use AF in actual movies My goal is films… not VLOGS and not having a spec sheet contest… but actually creating things that communicate stories The GH5S combined with my GH5 will CERTAINLY GET THE JOB DONE AND EXCEED MY EXPECTATIONS

I really lovehate this camera. The capabilities as astounding The things it will do in video are truly amazing including the really outstanding image stabilization using both the camera body stabilization as well as the O.I.S. built into Panasonic lenses. The image quality in 4k is hard to beat and my favorite feature is the joystick control on the back of the camera. It is much faster than the old control dial the control dial is still there and improved if you like to use it. I hate the camera for some of the same reasons. Im spoiled for choice when I pick up the camera. Ive never had to spend nearly as much time to set up a camera for the first shot as I did with the GH5. The menu system is EXTREMELY deep with many submenus. Since many choices are either shown or hidden according to the way other choices are st, it is often difficult to find a choice that you want to return to. Either love or hate, the GH5 is a camera that Im willing to make an intellectual investment in because Im sure that my effort will be rewarded.

Most recently shot a period drama short using two GH5 cameras and voigtlander manualfocus lenses, the cameras served really beautifully everyone involved very pleased with the results. Although Im interested in an update to these cameras a GH6 I dont feel that resolution is an area that needs to be improved. I shoot video in 1080p, and dont even want the hassle of dealing with the larger files of 4K video that the GH5 supports. 10bit colour depth is more important, and VLog by default would be good. Improved lowlight sensitivity would be way more beneficial that increased resolution. There are at least some wonderful highaperture MFT lenses available that make lowlight shooting possible. Some wider improvements Id like to ask Panasonic for Open up and document the remotecontrol API, make it a documented feature of the cameras. I have customwritten software to administer multiple GH5 cameras at once, enabling one operator to startstop the cameras rolling simultaneously. This works brilliantly for shoots where theres a minimal number of crew, which is increasingly valuable in the era of COVID19. Nextgen support for focuspulling with autofocus lenses. First off, give a numerical focus scale on the OSD, not just a line that moves between a mountain and a flower Secondly, allow remote control of the focus using bluetooth allowing focus pullers to use a remote focus control device. These kind of things would be gamechangers for indie film makers.

With the optional VLog L installed, the GH5 works great for my line of work in educational, training, and PSA videos for education and nonprofits.I use Olympus lenses and one adapted Nikon for macro work. The IBIS really is amazing, and the reviews Ive seen about how good it is are accurate even with nonIS lenses.Battery life is not as good as my GH4, and I can get about 1.5 hours out of the genuine Panasonic batteries. When shooting longer, I have a dummy battery hooked up to a VMount battery using a Tilta VMount plate, 15mm rods, and a SmallRig baseplate for the Canon Cseries cameras all attached to the SmallRig cage.

I am an indi film maker and have a tight budget. Most of my work is for reels for actors and short form as well as some industrial and feature work. This is an amazing camera. PLEASE DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU BUY. If you are a wedding video or run and gun with no stabilizers, this is not the camera for you. I own equipment to make up for the fact that they took out stabilization and the trade off for the low light is well worth it. If you are needing to shoot weddings, probably not the best hybrid and stick to the GH5. But if your a film maker and loved the GH5 this is a great camera. My old lenses feel new now that I can shoot with lower light. So I still light and shape light on set that is part of film making, but now with more control of the ISO my options are much greater. The quality is amazing and it already comes with VLOG. I am loving the camera.

Have now used it on two pro jobs for national brands. Its an amazing camera. Ive used all the pro and semipro cameras on the market the last 10 years and the GH5 has a killer combination of codecs and shoot tools. Its the best run and gun camera out there. It even shoots clean video up to 1600 and useable video to 3200. The stabilization means you can do entire shoots with no tripod. Think about that for a moment. We did a few walk and talks with no extra equipment. In extremely trying conditions over the last 6 weeks I had very few issuesI had one instance where I could not cut while rolling. I had to pull the batteries and reboot. The file was still intact though, and may have been a card issue. The temps were well over 100F and the camera had been running for some hours. The batteries drain significantly faster than the GH4, or comparable Canon. If youre planning a long shoot day in 4K, with audio via the top interface, then have 4 batteries ready to go.I didnt use the AF in video. Peaking worked great. AF in stills works perfectlyCompared to anything else in the market under 8k, the GH5 currently has no competition.

Amazing quality and pro features such as zebras and focus peaking. As a Canon stills photographer, using a speed boster allows me to use my expensive Canon L glass, Stabilisation is incredible. It was a toss up between this and blackmagic pocket 4k. The GH5 is more versatile, and more compact. Highly recommend to anyone who is serious about getting into video. 2 small gripes. Although I primarily use manual focus, the autofocus is nowhere near as good as Canon, and I think to extend the life of the GH5, paying an extra 100 to unlock vlog should be waived, and it should be enabled by default.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is what the other camera brands aspire to. It features everything that makes a camera a PRO camera, and then some. Its all well known by now so Ill cover some of the rest. First, you have to know more or less what youre doinghow to properly handle the camera and lens, understand what it is designed to do and its limitations. For example, you cant focus on a clear blue sky and complain that the birds were out of focus. The AF points must land on the birds Some bad reviews of cameras are actually posted by bad photographers. There is also a lot of misinformation about M43 format sensors. One is that, to get an image equivalent to an image from a FF sensor, you have to change the effective or actualfstop of the M43 lens. That is not true but you can find this misinformation almost everywhere online.A M43 35100 f2.8 lens is optically equivalent to a FF 70200 f2.8 lens. If you need proof, just set up the same scene with the FF and M43 cameras, the same lightning, ISO, fstop, shutter speed, focal length and distance to the subject. The two images from the two cameras will have the same exposure.A 20MP M43 sensor has its pixels much closer together than a 20MP FF sensor. This is a big advantage in surveillance of a distant subjectyou will get much more detail and resolution than from a sameMP FF sensor, for any given focal length. This is because the size of the image on any sensor is determined soley by the focal length of the lens, while the distance between the pixels remains the same, and different between the two sensors. You get much more detail in lunar images as well.In the Panasonic GH5, you get a tuff weather sealed body, 200,000 shutter life, IBIS that works together with the lens stabilization, fast quiet accurate AF, two separate UHSII card slots with no video recording limitnever again will I have to stop at 2959Mirrorless cameras with electronic viewfinders are the future, and the GH5 is the Benchmark.

Panasonic has a winner with the GH5. Whats not to like Shoots true 4K, 10bit, 422, ALLIntra codec internally Are you kidding me It has everything. Feels great in the hand, Viewfinder is solid and clear. Controls logically placed the control dial, by default, controls headphone volume, yes, lots of Function buttons to customize, Wave Form Monitor, Zebras, Manual Exposure Assistant, Dual Slot recording, and on and one it goes. The Menu system is easy to access and navigate. And it takes great pictures. The only thing I dont like is having to pay for VLog separately, but is it worth the extra 100. Yes it is. 12 stops of DR, right on the heels of SLog which has 14 stops. But most of the time, the highlights are getting blown out in SLog3 any way, so are long as you dont overexpose VLog, you should be able to get cinematic quality no problem. I love this camera. Its a classic. Right up there with the Canon 5D Mark ii, the Sony FS7, it is in a class of its own.

When I originally learned to use a video camera, it was with one of those bulky, over the shoulder, traditional video cameras. I then switched to using Canon DSLRs because of the sensor size, cost and lens options. Canon has done as little as possible to continue the video movement as far as adding features goes, so it was time to start looking for something else. The GH5 arrives and it seems to good to be true. I am adapting my EF mount lenses on the GH5 and I really could not be more pleased with the results. The features that this camera gives you out of the box are incredible. It is infinitely customizable to your preference and it is a heavy weight when it comes to video quality, options for resolution and frame rate, as well as file format. This camera truly bridges the gap of having video on a camera and buying the over the shoulder, massive camera. The ability to record in 4k 60p, have zebras and focus peaking are truly game changers if you have come from a Canon DSLR. Keep your EF lenses and adapt with the Metabones speedbooster.

I have been using the GH5 for over a year. I have not used my Canon or Nikon DSLRs since I got comfortable with the camera. Professionals with specific needs still benefit from full frame platforms, but for enthusiasts the GH5 is the swiss knife of photography. What really makes the GH5 a go to camera is the combination of features at your fingertips. Low light performance is one weakness of smaller sensors, but Panasonics unsurpassed 5axis lens body Power OIS almost makes up for lower sensitivity in available light. Videos are butter smooth, handheld stills at 400 to 800 ISO are possible that I cant get with my Nikon and Canons. For videographers unlimited 2slot SD internal UHD 4k 60fps and 4K 30fps with 10bit 422 , plus ALLIntra, is fantastic. Photographers miss out when they dont shoot video if the opportunity arises to capture a story.I shoot mostly stills, and I find the GH5 to be just as good with photos as it is with video. The auto exposure works very well. The quoted burst spec of 9fps MF 12fps AF hides the fact that you can get 60fps 8MP stills and 30fps 18MP stills. For the first time I can get baseball shots at the moment the ball leaves the bat, not a fraction before or after. The auto focus takes some time to master, and is not as good as Canon when following moving targets, but if the focus spot is well chosen it works fine. Manual focus assist is available when sharpness is critical, and the added DOF of micro43 helps. All of the features combine to make the GH5 a joy to use. If you want a camera that is ready for almost any challenge, nothing compares to the GH5.

Fantastic, versatile, small, and lightweight camera that punches way above its weight class. Can easily replace a dedicated video camera for many scenariosuse cases if you combine it with the DMWXLR1 mic adapter, a good variable ND filter, and the right lenses. Great for sliders, jibs, and gimbals and for traveling light. A truly great hybrid photovideo solution. I use the GH5 primarily for corporate and training videos, outdoor event videos, travel and personal projects including stills, and have previously owned the GH3 and GH4. The GH5 is definitely a worthwhile upgrade improved lowlight performance, even better bit rates, fantasticlooking slow motion, the list goes on…with its highquality flipout screen, headphone jack, robust build, lens selection including the ability to use adaptersspeed boosters, ability to add VLOG, etc. the GH5 simply gives you so much. There are really only two things I think you can fault it for relative to other cameras in its price range its autofocus, and the sensor size as it relates to low light. Concerning autofocus if thats an important factor for you, then something in the Sony A6XXX series or a Canon non4K camera might suit you better. Concerning sensor size if you do lots of lowlight shooting where youre going higher than 6400 on consistent basis, then the GH5 may not be the right choice for you. However, the sensor size is also one of the key benefits to the GH series as well smaller, lighter lenses, use of adapters, etc. Although neither of those two items are dealbreakers for me, Ive decided to rate the GH5 four stars instead of five, solely because I do think the autofocus system could be better. Otherwise, the GH5 rivals cameras costing thousands more and I readily recommend it, particularly if you are looking for a camera in the sub5000 range. Its truly like a swissarmy knife of cameras it takes great stills, too

I bought the GH5 to update my GH3 because of all the new features and improvements.. The large bright EVF is so detailed it almost has the feel of any optical viewfinder, something extra special when you dont like using the LCD panel which is also very sharp and shows well even in the bright light outdoors. .I really like the new menu system which is easier to use than the older system which was fairly easy to use and found on all the other Panasonic cameras I own. It felt very natural and I like it a lot.The in body image stabilization IBIS was the first thing I tested and it does provide several stops of image stabilization depending upon the lens used. Its close to but not as good as Olympus IBIS.Buttons and button placement is excellent and easy to use. The WB, ISO and exposure compensation are like on the GH3GH are up front and the slightly different feel make it easy to tell which button is being pushed. The new joystick button works great and is much better than expected. It perfect when you eye is on the EVF, it easy to manipulate and much better than using LCD screen or buttons. Two cards slots WOW I love that feature and am using it for card 1 imagescard 2 video. There are many options on how you can setup these 2 slots.Build quality and feel is excellent. The camera feels solid and dSLR like. The grip is excellent in my hand with room for all my fingers to solidly hold the camera. I use a wrist strap as a safety feature, should the camera slip from my hand. It wouldnt happen with this camera but its a good safety feature.Only some of the new features have been tried but all work well. 4K…60P WOW. Smooth as silk. All images and video taken so far looks perfectly exposed, colorful and enjoyable to view 55inch 4K panelThe focus issues that were reported on the internet are grossly overblown and really irrelevant to most video. The focus looks excellent to me and works perfectly for my needs. So far the camera is impressive and hopefully my camera proves reliable. I am no pro but I think it is a good value for the quality and all the impressive features it offers.

We use the camera for property videography, although it really came into its own when doing wedding video. Great quality image and tons of features. The IBIS combined with lens stabilisation is incredible, making our gimbal virtually redundant. We also like the 60fps options and the tele zoom function. Only downside is low light performance not great.

This is a great camera for video and stills but as everyone knows its setup to be a video camera and it does this beautifully. Pair this set with some good glass and a good mic and you have a great 4K camera rig. The audio hot shoe adapter makes capturing great audio easier and gives you the ability to run the rig without an audio tech. My two favorite things about this camera are the frame rates and the stabilization. Paired with a stabilized lens the GH5 uses both the in body and the lens stabilization which makes grabbing those quick handheld shots fantastic, Im not saying throw away your stabilizer or gimbal, but it does make life easier. The frame rates are listed above in the tech specs go check it out. I use 120fps a lot to help tell the story so the ability to have one camera that can easily swap from 1080 120fps back to 4K 30p is priceless. Now with that said if you are looking for a great low camera check out the Sony A7S ii, the GH5 performs well in low light with the right lens but the full frame sensor A7S ii is just a low light beast. Overall the GH5 is a great camera for any pro, hobbiest, or even a beginner. Great job Panasonic

This camera came out a couple years ago, and still to this day I believe is the best camera money can buy. Under 1500 you get fantastic 4K with robust recording options, anamorphic support, HLG support, and VLog l. Dual SD card slots is really useful for me as I do backup recording which has saved me on so many occasions. If you add a speedbooster, you can even use ef lenses as well. Battery life is great, I get about 2 hours of C4K recording. This camera is a BEAST.

After using the GH5 for 2 years mainly for video but also stills. I believe it is one of the most capable true hybrid cameras. The unlimited recording of 4k 10bit 422 AllI 400mbps internally is something not easily matched by other products. The video picture quality generated by the high quality codecs is superb. Stills performance is often overlooked but the speed of the camera and AF system has allowed me to capture birds in flight on multiple occasions. The lens selection is huge and gives you tons of options.

Ive been a amateur mirrorless camera shooter ever since they first came out and have owned 6 different Panasonic, Olympus, and Sony models. I primarily used them with legacy lenses for still photography, but I purchased the GH5 in order to concentrate on video for awhile. Ive only had it for a 3 or 4 weeks, but can give some initial impressions. This is a big camera, much bigger than my Sony a7ii fullframe, but it is perfect for my big hands. Ergonomically, it is the best camera I have ever owned. It has 10 programmable function buttons that are nicely spaced out and easy to identify while your eye is at the viewfinder. It also has two programmable control wheels, a joystick, and a dial control, so you can set this beast up exactly how you want it for very quick operation, no matter what type of shooting you are doing. Then you can save those settings in 5 different configuration memories. The viewfinder is the best Ive seen and a big improvement over the a7iis, which I never liked. The fullyarticulating touch screen is also a big deal from a functional standpoint, especially for video. Manual focus legacy lens shooters will like this camera. Its very easy to assign the focal length to ensure proper stablization and focus peaking and the ability to rapidly move the magnified focus box around the screen with the joystick makes getting an exact focus very easy. It has a 30fps 6K still photo mode 6000 x 3375 pixel images for action capture. One of the few things about this camera that I dont like is a bit of shutter lag in this mode that forces you to anticipate when to shoot. It doesnt seem to affect the single shot modes. Another thing I dont like is that the jpegs seem a little soft. The RAW files, on the other hand, are excellent and require very little editing. Its odd because other than the softness, the jpegs and RAWs look very similar … much more so than any other camera Ive owned. I suspect that Panasonic does some very nice default processing on the RAWs. Battery life is good, but not great, so buy a couple extra batteries. Ive had good luck with Wasabi batteries. They function as well as OEM and maintain their performance for at least the 2.5 years or so that I keep a particular model. The camera has a lot of modes that use internal processing for things such as postfocus, focus stacking, and multishot sharpness and noise reduction. I havent tried them all, but what Ive seen so far is impressive. The shot of the Christmas lights below, which is straight out of the camera, was handheld using the Intelligenceauto mode. It automatically took a burst of about 5shots to produce this jpeg. Looks pretty good to me. Thats about all I can say about the GH5 at this point. Ill be posting shots to my Flickr photostream in an album dedicated to the GH5. If you like to check out my images, Google Rick Bolin. My photostream will be among the first few hits.

The Panasonic Lumix DCGH5 is everything I could have hoped for. I am extremely content with purchasing this camera and overall this camer excels where more expensive cameras cant compare. The GH5 does what I expect it to do. It is extremely reliable and tough. I have owned this camera 1 month now and I have filmed with it in the African Bush, in the snow and in the rain and it runs seamlessly. I paired by GH5 up with the Rokinon 12mm T2.2 Cine Lens which I would highly recommend buying for this camera as it works well and is a great quality wide angle lens. The GH5 is a strong go anywhere camera and there are it will make a excellent companion for outdoor filmmakers and documentary filmmakers. I have used and work with other more expensive cameras and the GH5 has all the features those cameras have and in many cases does a better job at a fraction of the weight. I would highly recommend this camera to low to medium budget filmmakers

I have been working parttime freelance as a videographer over the past two years. After my first year using the Lumix FZ1000 which was more than adequate I upgraded to the GH5. The GH5 has exponentially increased both the versatility and the quality of the footage I am able to produce. Interchangeable lens paired with the wide range of settings available has meant I can experiment with far more styles and ways of shooting than Ive been able to previously. The high frame rate of 60fps in 4K allows for smooth variable frame rate shots that give a significantly polished look to any Broll or establishing sequences. The multi SD slot feature is really handy to save you from having to scramble around for that extra card when on a shoot, and the way it enables you to roll camera almost indefinitely is a fantastic feature though not one I anticipate using all that often It seems tough, Ive not pushed it through the elements too much yet but I have shot in light rain a few times as well as it being hauled around in backpacks through long camping trips, certainly no issues thus far As an DSLR bodytype camera it has a fair bit of weight to it, but crucially I found that its payload is not so heavy that it cannot be operated on a Gimbal.

Ive tried several cameras over the past couple years in search of the perfect fit for my type of photography and videography hobbyist, family videophoto and have struggled to find something that checked all the boxes for me. I first started off in the APSC realm with Sony. The autofocus was amazing, but the ergonomics left much to be desired. I moved on to Fuji APSC and enjoyed the lens selection and image quality, but found myself wising that the camera felt better to hold in my hand I had the XT3. I then made the plunge into Fullframe with Sony fearing that I was missing out on that fullframe look. For my needs I found that this look was not worth the weight and price in lenses. After researching some, I was intrigued by the GH5. I had always viewed it a pure video camera and avoided considering it since I was looking for a hybrid system. However, after using it, Ive found that the photo quality is awesome and the video is stellar. In my hands its perfect for taking along on family outings to snap some photos and take quality video for short films I make for my kids. Sure, there are shortcomings, but I found that the benefits of a smaller sensor and larger body are perfect for me ie. IBIS, reliability and durability, form factorthis thing is so comfortable to hold and use. Im glad I finally found the GH5 and let go of my FOMO fear of missing out of full frame and embraced M43

I have switched to GH5 from Sony FS5. Before i worked on Canon 5D Mark 3, Sony EX3, Canon C300, C300 MK2 and many other Sony DV cameras. I think GH5 is very good considering its price. I am using it with Sigma 1835 1.8 Sigma 50100 1.8 and Metabones Speedbooster Ultra for a couple days ive had Panasonic 25mm F1.7 and ive been using it for photos. Overall i am happy with the camera performance for its price. I shoot mainly corporate videos so i really appreciate unlimited recording time. Recently Ive added XLR module and i am really happy with this little device as i dont like to work with external audio recorder another device possible failure. I am enjoying 4K50p, focus peaking and waveform monitor. There are some drawbacks 1. Thing that annoys me a lot is noise in low light not super low light but in general indoor. Even with the fast lens f1.8 f1.2 thanks to speedbooster i cant avoid it. I dont want to go above 1200 ISO and usually keep it under 800. if you shoot in low light a lot this camera is not for you. You better off with Sony or Canon. 2. Many functions are locked when you recording. For example i cant use extended focus works only when you are not recording. This is super bad as when you work with fast wide open lens is really difficult to focus manually and the lcd is small good quality but small size. I cant turn onoff the waveform monitor while recording. And there is many more like this. 3. When you set your LCD brightness to max, after 30 seconds screen is dimming slightly. Usually I wanted to adjust exposure and then once you touch any button screen goes back to normal brightness real pain. 4. Many people said that and i was aware of it when buying AF isnt great. Ive seen some tests with new 2.0 firmware and looks like its improved but its nowhere near to Sony A6300 or even FS5 or Canon. Im not using it anyway as i have only EF lenses but it would be helpful for gimbal shoots. Overall for its price is good camera, specs are great and 4K50 is brilliant, dual memory card slot gives peace of mind, ergonomic is great, its not to small and not to big. First i wanted to return it but after few events and adding XLR module i am buying another one. There is no perfect camera but if you know the weakness and know how to work with that then dont wait and get one

So I ordered the GH5 with the free software kit a couple weeks ago, March 2019. Ordered it on a Friday morning and it arrived the following Thursday, shipped from New York to Oregon. The sling bag is actually really well made with tons of compartments for all your GH5 gear, with space for 23 lenses depending on size. The VLog upgrade wasnt too hard to input on SD into my camera. The SD card reader is alright, it doesnt light up but it reads the cards, so thats a plus. The optic cleaning kit is really awesome. SD card sling pack is actually pretty solid and not flimsy like I thought it would be. The extra battery works great, no problems the last couple weeks. And of course the camera. Love it. Solid body, mediumto heavy feel, as it feels really durable. No problems with the camera whatsoever. Everything arrived in great condition, and if youre looking for a great camera and one thats Micro 43, the GH5 is for you. IB Stablization, up 10 bit 400mbps 4k, up to 180frame slow motion, decent autofocus with the new 2.4 update. Get this kit, its the best priced one that includes the Vlog upgrade.

My first Lumix G2 was plastic and is still working great but the photo and video quality had not kept up with the times. In contrast, the GH5 is a totally upscale product. Current new and used prices make the camera an excellent camera for anyone moving up but theres a catch. For the occasional, point and shoot, or shooter that doesnt want to read manuals the camera can be a handfull. The GH5 is a machine engineered to record video and stills as such it is not entirely userfriendly. If you will be using it every day or so great but if not, you may want to stick with a camera with simple controls and Program functions that take the guesswork out of your picturetaking. I certainly wouldnt suggest you use the camera on any project without first working with it and checking the performance on your application. To buy or not to buy At the price, and with the features, my thought is you cant go wrong with the Panasonic As for the MFT vs. fullframe argument, the photo business has changed. Look beyond the brand name, sensor size, and decide what youll be doing with the images or video FIRST this should be the defining factor of what lenss, body, and additional equipment you need in that order. The GH5 will do more than the average shooter demands. Ive been using Nikon equipment since the 70s and I wasnt sure switching to a Panasonic, known for TVs and VCRs was a good idea. For me, it was a very good idea.

I started a photography business a few years ago and upgraded from the GH1 to the LUMIX GH5 with the incredible LUMIX Leica 42.5mm F1.2. This camera gave me the flexibility and control I need to deliver quaintly shots to every client. All of my 100s of clients have loved the photos. The GH5 made it easy to driver on their expectations and more. For the price, the quality prime lenses that Panasonic LUMIX has available cant be beat

This is an early and subjective review, but overall Im very impressed with features and image quality.Positives Full sensor shooting gives a 1.28x crop with speedbooster xl, stunning dof and even very good lowlight with 1.4 lens 6k30, 4k60, 1080180, 10 bit 422 and stills in a tiny body Pro features like waveforms, vectorscope are huge IBIS is huge, I discovered this from the gx85. Once you try it, youll never go back MFT gives you huge telephoto and tiny lens options if you want Good ergonomics not perfect good menus, good viewfinder Fast, VERY good stillsNegatives How do I edit the files now Its a pita workflow atm Some bugs in software Some buttons are difficult to press Can we have backlit buttons please PANASONICOverallThe best hybrid shooter yet. With a speedbooster it feels like a full frame mirrorless beast with IBIS that beats the knockers off Sony. Color is much better than GH4, still no CanonArri. Its not cheap though, with speedbooster and accessories youre entering Ursa and FS5 territory, but if you have a lot of FF glass, a speedbooster and this body is fantastic. Paid LOG sucks imo, I just wish they would give us compressed raw magiclantern OK so Im dreaming. If you can afford it, I highly recommend.

Ive been filming for almost 20 years, and own and use cameras from most of the major brands the Panasonic GH5 is handsdown the camera I am most likely to grab for my daytoday needs. Sure, if I need something with a bit shallower DoF Ill use a fullframe or S35 camera, but for the majority of my work, the GH5 is ideal. It doesnt get in the way, menus are fast to navigate coughsony custom buttons are great dedicated buttonscontrols even better. In short, it just works. Its also a very compact lightweight system, which is superimportant if youre shooting handheld for many hours per day. IF ONLY Panasonic would get their autofocus right and yes, it IS important in professional rungun situations it would be unbeatable.

I dont have this exact bundle, but I did purchase the GH5 from the Panasonic website. Ive had the camera for a little over a year now and I could not be happier with it I used to use canon so this is a bit different since it is mirrorless, but I couldnt be happier with my decision This camera is so advanced, Im still learning new things about it. It shoots beautiful high quality and smooth video in 4K which is unreal I love the wifi feature and apps that connect the camera to my phone as well. It was very convenient when I was traveling, and was able to transfer photos from my Lumix, straight to my phone I was able to edit my photos with the adobe Lightroom app and post high quality, beautiful photos without bringing a heavy laptop Love that the display screen pops out, it makes vlogging super easy Im also amazed at how lightweight the camera body and lenses are compared to canon Its sleek without being heavy and bulky which makes it much easier to transport and carry around. Im so impressed with this camera overall, great decision

The Panasonic GH5 has been around for several years now but the firmware was recently upgraded again to V2.6. This has ensured that the GH5 remains relevant and still a good value choice especially for the serious videographer. At first sight the menus of the GH5 can be intimidating and I would suggest that this is not a camera for the beginner. Even an experienced photographer can expect to have to invest a substantial amount of effort to setup the GH5 to get the best out of it. That said putting time into the setup of the GH5 is well worth the effort. The 4K video produced by the camera at up to 400Mbs is brilliant but it does tax the PC to process it at bit rates over 100Mbs.

I have spent my life working for broadcast television companies. I am a trained cameraman, editor, and now a producer and director. I shoot and edit my own broadcast quality documentaries. The GH5 is great for runandgun filming. Many of my filmed stories follow people and their activities. The GH5 is lightweight and quick to configure with preset buttons. Batteries are small, relatively longlasting and quick to change. I have a variety of LUMIX lenses. The really big advantage of the GH5 is the inbody stabilisation which I use with OIS lenses. This avoids the need for large, heavy gimbals. I use a small cage to add extra items such as a microphone and a video light.

There are so many downs to this camera that panasonic should be ashamed and actually i guess it started its crisis with this terrible camera. I own one since 3 years i rarely use it and when ai do i do for the worst job i have. Bad video quality, moiree that is unbearable for a pro camera, they should have kepts like the gh5s the 10mpx sensor of the gh4 for at least, no autofocus at all, the main lens is terrible and really the color is unbearable, one of the worst ever.. never buy it and nor the successor which is just a waste of money in my opinion.. Image quality is so low that is really unbearable.

Its a videocine camera so why put it in a photo camera bodyGive us this camera in cine camera body with XLR audio and internal ND filters and Id gladly pay 4,000 for it. I was gonna give it a 3star because of the photo body nonsense but the GH5s is still the best option for video under 6000 if you need good low light capabilities.Ive never been a big fan of the GH series, the image always felt crushed and often muddy, especially in low light, but the GH5 has made a bit of improvement here. In low light the GH5s does much better than the Sony A7 series. What Yes the Sony can go farther in iso without noise than the GH5s but the colors fall apart so rapidly that for me the sony is unusable above iso 3200 when the GH5s holds the colors pretty well even at iso 6400. Great features like the 400mbs all intra internal recording though most of the time I only need 150mbps, and a clean 1080p 240fps, among other great features. I do prefer the amazing image quality colors rendition of the Fuji XH1 but the battery issues and 30min limit makes it unusable for my event video need. Continuous autofocus is somewhat usable but far from great compared to many other cameras out there. Yes, IBIS would have been is a nice option but not essential for me. I have the 1260 2.84, which works better for my needs than the 1235. I also have the Nokton 17.5 0.95, and will probably get the 10.5, 25, and 42.5 too at some point as they work great with the GH5s. Overall, its a great camera and best option so far for events and documentary style videofilm, but when Fuji comes up with a camera with better battery life and unlimited recording, Ill say goodbye to Panasonic.

I have had the GH5 for over 5 months now. I use this camera for my sports videography job and for short film use. Feel free to view some videos I have made with the camera with this link most often filmed using the metabones XL with the canon 24105 mk i.httpsabmuell.myportfolio.comportfolioCOLOR The 10bit color really makes a difference in many of my images compared to my coworkers who have opted for the Sony route. The CinelikeD color profile with decreased saturation is excellent for color grading in post production. Much easier to manipulate than Sony Slog in my opinion which I have had to color grade with before and hate to do so.FRAMERATES The framerates available with the camera are unbelievable. The 180 fps recorded natively to 60 is one of my favorites. It is silky smooth. The only negative I would have is I wish I could record audio with framerates higher than 60fps. But this is common with most cameras to my knowledge. Also the ability to record natively in framerates such as 72 and 36fps are great for specific stylistic choices.RELIABILITYBATTERIES This camera has yet to let me down. The Panasonic battery last for a very long time. I once had to film a parade where I used a fully charged battery to continuously film for an entire hour 24fps10bit200mbs and there were still 3 bars showing after that hour. I also have two 3rd party batteries as back ups and they work very well Panasonic battery is better, but these are not far off. For the price they were a good choice.ERGONOMICS Brilliant. I am able to adjust ISO, Aperture, and framerates very easily. There is nothing negative about the design for me. Menus are quick to use once you learn the layout. Way faster to use than Sony IMO.4K Its a great function and looks amazing, but I opt to use the high MegabitColor Bit recording options in 1080 for daily use in my line of work for practicality.LOW LIGHT This camera is great for what you get, but this would be the only negative about the entire camera. I am pleased with the capabilities the camera offers but there are times where I wish I could have some extra ISO to keep a cleaner image. This may be a thing more for when you are using higher frame rates, but overall the performance of the camera is brilliant when parred with a metabones and a relatively fast lens. If all you do is shoot in the dark then go with a Sony A7 series camera. Otherwise I would choose the GH5 over the Sony any time.In summary I would recommend this camera to videographers anywhere. If photos are your main thing then there are other cameras better suited for the task. This camera is a video workhorse that can take very great photos when needed. I encourage you to view my sample works in the link at the beginning of the review if you want to see what this camera is capeable of for realistic everyday use.I also am not a Sony hater. There are many great videos that my coworkers make using the Sony line of cameras. I just much prefer the usability and look of the GH5.

Using primarily for gimbal and car mounts as well as run and gun. Bought the GH5S over the S5 because it has full size hdmi and all intra 400 mbps codec. Chose GH5S over S1 because it has OLPF all intra 400 mbps and is smaller. Got this over the BGH1 because it has a screen and EVF. With a speedbooster on the one point eight crop factor you will not miss full frame. The GH5S is a workhorse and is not afraid of the dark.

Everything is great, except the continuous AF in video. It has improved over the various firmware updates, and somietimes it is usable, but it si no match for Canon and Sony PDAF. I hope the GH6 will have that improvement. A great addittion would also be the possibility to punch in for manual AF to check focal sharpness while recording video. As for the rest, this is still a fabulous camera, and the M43 lens lineup is marvellous too. No need for fullframe

I know, most people go the other way, but I researched and hoped for a year that a better video camera would come out near this price level. Of course, there is nothing that does 400 mbs 4K in 422, 10 bit for under 2K WITH Hybrid or Vlog Log gamma and variable frame rates in this quality range.I have been using Canon HDV, Sony EX3s and Panasonic TM series cams for a wide variety of private and corporate projects for years and wanted to step up in frame rate, bit rate and color space. To do this I evaluated the Sony Z90V, the GH5 and the GH5s. The Z90V disappointed me rather quickly. I returned it within 3 days. For shooting in a dim lit room the noise is like my old Canon XHA1 HDV codec. Many have addressed the video noise in the Z90V as did I in a scathing review but I had to see it for myself. All I can say is that the wrestling demo is misleading. Now to the point. I also bought the GH5 and GH5s. The GH5 for 20MP photography which I am doing more of now and the GH5s for its supposed outstanding video quality. I took both with me to shoot a wedding in Michigan along with my other four video cameras Airport security freaked. I also bought with the Lumix cams the Leica 43, 818 Vario Elmarit, 1235mm and 35100mm X Vario lenses. I evaluated them before I left to practice, during my shoot and after in four different states we traveled. I am in a word… stunned.First, the bokeh and crispness of these Leica lenses, coupled with Panasonics superior codec in dim light is what first wins me over. One can push the ISOs out to 6500 with very little noise. The video and photos I took made me drunk with the creativity I now had at my fingertips I took over a thousand photos in a week and about 6 hours of video. Ill admit it is hard to evaluate 100mbs vs 400 mbs in 10 bit without the proper equipment. But that said, you can see the difference between 100 mbs 8 bit 422 and 200 mbs 10 bit 422. I have a 4K monitor but its only 8 bit however I trust Panasonic with the unbelievable technology in these cameras and know the depth is there. In addition, the 2.3 firmware update fixes the slow focus issues in the GH5 and unleashes 400 mbs video. The 5s seems to have no flaws and is also joy to shoot decent photos but more importantly, excellent videos with. However, I am disappointed that you cant shoot VFR in anything but 1080P AVCHD.Some differences in the two While the GH5 is a fine video camera it is a better photo shooter. The GH5 has dual stabilization in both the chip and the lens OIS. I have taken 200 ISO shots at 2.8, 14 second with outstanding results, maintaining sharpness. In regards to video, with both cams one has soooo many choices ranging from 24mbs AVCHD to 400 mbs 4K. The video I graded with the 5s in VLog is exactly what it should be. I cant measure the dynamic range but I would guess its 1011 stops. It is so easy to adjust your scenes while viewing the live view to allow you to create shadow control and yet maintain highlights. To wrap it up, I am keeping the GH5 and GH5s. My Sony EX3 is a fine 8 bit, 422 video camera. I will keep it but I am giving my other three video cams to my son. My EX3 will become my slum cam now. To be fair, it is tough to run n gun with a DSL mirrorless. You miss the flexibility right away you have with a video cam, but there are ways to adapt. After I upgrade my editing system and pay for these new cams and lenses, I will go after the Sony FS7M2. After all, the GH5 and GH5s are just B cams.

I liked this camera but feel badly let down by the apparent timecode facility allowing you to synchronise with audovideo with other professional cameras the issue is that it is only usable IF this Camera is to be the Master which would never be the case in a professional shoot, but also you can only send its timecode out via the HDMI output which again makes interfacing it to other professional cameras difficult. On Video filming the tiny battery will manage no more than 1.75 or maybe 2.5 hours maximum need much more and the audio in is a single stereo socket so even if you want to use an external timecode device like a Tentacle you end up being forced to use BOTH channels of your audio for Timecode, removing the possibility of recording timecode on one audio track and event sound on the other. Overall the Camera had so much potential but Panasonic have clearly decided to offer professional features in the brochure, but so hobble them in real life that practically the Camera is very limited in this sphere.

The Panasonic Lumix GH5 is still nearly unmatched by more recent designs. Its packed with features and superior bit depths and log capabilities. A great match to other Panasonic cameras like the EVA1 or Varicams, it makes a terrific bcamera. The only downside is the micro 43 sensor size, which means that you need to either invest in native lenses there are several, or get a speedbooster adapter for use with your EF lenses. The Viltrox speedbooster is a very capable unit for modern lenses, and 13 the price of the genuine Metabones speedbooster. However, only the genuine Metabones unit will work with vintage adapted stills lenses. Fullframe mirrorless cameras are the latest darlings, but this camera still holds up.

Recently I had a Sony SD UHS2 card corrupted in my Panasonic MFT camera. It would not play back video recordings I made on the camera. I replaced it with a Lexar UHS2 and then a SanDisk card. Both those cards worked perfectly in recording and playback after the problem with the Sony card. Evidently the camera was operating flawlessly and it was the fault of the Sony SD card that it corrupted itself. SD cards are delicate and can be damaged easily. They have some degree of computing capabilty and have a controller inside. The point is that ANY card can get corrupted and can do so in ANY camera but it is far more likely that it does it to itself. The card slots must be kept clean and you cant yank out a card while its still writing or reading. You should be careful when putting them into the slots and taking them out. Or just record to both slots simultaneously.

As a stills camera, it is almost ideal for what I use it for. I am a Film Stills Unit Photographer and I use it to capture Behind the Scenes images of the production process on set. I can swap between normal mode and silent mode with the press of a button without the need for a Sound Blimp. Its is smallish which means that it doesnt get int he way but it does struggle a bit in low light because of its MFT sensor. Video quality is second to none.

Ive owned a lot of video cameras. Most recent being Red Komodo, Sony FS7, FS5, A7Sii, GH5, GH4, and this camera tops my list and sits right below the Komodo as my favorite. With a catch You have to shoot 400mb All Intra LOG. And when you do, you end up with a beautiful image that allows you all the latitude to grade as you wish, with the dual ISO and exceptional low light capability giving you noisefree shadows. I sold this off when switching to my Komodo, but I would buy another in a heartbeat.

THIS is the camera Ive been looking for Amazing low light performance and 10 bit 422 internal. With a speedboosterfocal reducer, the sensor is even bigger than APSC, or Super 35, so its between Super 35 and full frame, which is more than I need as a filmmaker. For the folks complaining that this doesnt have IBIS, well, this camera is not for you. If you want a vlog, travel, documentary, or wedding camera, then stick with the GH5. If you want superior low light, and to my eyes, even better color science compared to the GH5 httpsyoutu.beKDs32Poh2LI for narrative films, then get this camera. I own a tripod, steadicam unit, and glidecam stabilizer, so I dont need the IBIS which actually will ruin the shots that I need for narrative work. The IBIS sensor in the GH5 is always moving even when you dont have it turned on. When you mount the GH5 on a car to do chase scenes, you will get warping jello artifacts due to the IBIS sensor always moving. The new Venus Engine sensor gives the skin tones a more natural dare I say it Canon look. Ive always had trouble color grading with previous GH4 and GH5s greenyellow skin tones, but not anymore. The look out of the GH5s beats the GH5 for narrative work due to a brand new sensor. See for yourself and do your own research on YouTube. If you are a filmmaker wanting to produce more narrative driven work, this camera will fulfill your needs. And given the affordable price for some of the many features you get like true Cinema 4K at 60fps, a time code option, and a full sensor readout giving you more accurate lens to sensor angle of view all three of which the GH5 doesnt have, it is a nobrainer to get this camera for more creative narrative projects.

A brilliant Camera. Superb quality video. Im shooting full HD 442 10 bit whilst in Scotland. Really happy with the results. I really like the my memory function which enables me to have my most used settings available under one heading. Would like smoother transition in the auto focus mode, though usually Im in manual focus so its not a deal breaker. The focus mechanism on the stock lenses leaves a lot to be desired, especially when compared to my Canon XF305 HD Camcorder. Love the C1, C2, C3 custom settings. I can flip from 4k to HD, to Variable framerate HD at the flick of a switch. It would be good if the camera remembered the exposure setting when it is powered down. Annoyingly you have to reset the exposure on power up. The live viewfinder is really good, though an eyepiece that as able to be tilted upwards would be ideal for low shots. Twin SD card slots is a great feature. Battery life is excellent, I get through 2 on a long day shooting. The touchscreen is really good and very responsive, though I generally prefer to use the viewfinder. Considering its size the GH5 packs a real punch in terms of features and quality. Extremely pleased with my purchase.

A great camera Forget the fact that it is a M43 sensor, and focus good glass There is nothing this camera will not do and do great If you are good at what you do, this camera will do it for you Focus is not an issue if you program it right and you know how to use it there is nothing on this planet that is perfect, but knowing how to use things with limitations is a great trait to have This is my third GH5 and it works great for me BTW good glass is not expensive, so heres your great tip of the day

The Panasonic GH5S is an awesome pro camera. No video recording limit means no missed moments trying to restart the recording, advanced video capabilities unmatched by the other camera companies, two card slots, true weather sealing, electronic viewfinder, fast accurate AF…the more time you spend with it the more you discover what it can do.Im going to sell my Sony a77 mark 2. It is 24MP APSC and has WORSE image quality than my new 10.3MP GH5S in indoor medium to lowambient lightThe Panasonic is micro four thirds, and the body and lenses are correspondingly smaller and lighter than FF bodies and lensesthe weight is roughly 23 that of FF. For lenses the difference is much morea MF3 lens can weigh less than half of a FF lens. Multiply that by the number of lenses in your bagThis counts for a lot if youre going to carry it around for hours. I fit three MF3 cameras with lenses attached in a medium size backpack camera compartment. Small and light will always be a significant advantage, and many photographers will continue to realize this. If you want more MP, the GH5 has 20, but the GH5S has amazing low light performance.I am unable to register my camera though, after trying on different devices and getting help from a computer techy friend. Panasonic customer support has not helped. Still I cannot take a rating star away because the GH5S is excellent. Five stars.

This is the best camera for video that Ive gotten my hands on. With the new autofocus fix in the latest firmware updates its now even better. While the contrast autofocus will never match canon and Sonys technology it is much improved and far more reliable. And nothing in this price range delivers on image quality like the gh5. Nice solid camera. The pro series adds a lot of weight compared to the semi pro line. But the weight feels good to me and is easily handled by the crane 2 and ronin s gimbles. Endless options to tweak your image. Enjoy working with it and finding your own look or take a shortcut and search for many pros settings posted all over the internet. This camera wont disappoint. Disclaimer I dont realoy take photos with this camera and Im not a photographer. Only work in video. But the pictures I have taken are great by my standards.

I love the 43rds. You are able to film at 2.8 or 4 and the DoF is similar to 5.6 or 8 on a full frame. So I can operate I lower light without having a ridiculously lower DoF why people want this Ill never know, its okay for some films but not corporate stuff. VLOG is brilliant, ive over 20 years of Photoshop experience so when I realised I could make own LUTs in Photoshop I feel that I get a really good looking image. Makes the camera look like a 5k camera or more sometimes. Dont need RAW as file sizes are enough but if there was a way of being able to control WB or ISO afterwards, although with a RAW that could be tough. But you must have clever engineers there Possibly 100fps at 4k. I use the XLR adapter and that really helps but possibly improve audio recording further. May be 32bit float, thats great for people who are loud like me Built in ND filters, even if its achieved digitally. A GH6 thats similar to a GH5 would be superb. I like the look of you new FF but lenses arent compatible and it means buying more so a GH6 thats 43s is best. At some point I might get a FF if I feel like being arty. One thing I was hoping was a body that was shaped more like the Sony FS, Canon C range or even the Reds. No one uses the GH5 for photography so why make a GH6 like a camcorder box Youd be able to build an XLR audio box and change the eye piece view finder. If you made camcorder only box shape GH6 with extra features Id buy that, keep it 43rds though.

I have two GH5s which I use alongside my Sony XD160s for wedding filming. The GH5 is by far the most versatile of the cameras. My Sony XD160 is used on a tripod for filming the wedding ceremony, speeches and dancing, but my GH5s are used for everything else on the day. They are light, easy to carry and put them on a monopod and you can go anywhere and still have very stable footage. Quality of the GH5 is second to none.

The GH5 is still a great hybrid camera with awesome 4K video features and now its a very good deal, especially used in near mint condition for close to 1,000. If one knows how to optimize its AF, including the installation of the latest firmware, this is quite usable too. I have been using 2 of them with Panasonic pro lenses for shooting indoor interviews and small products in 4K video with ease of use and high quality results. Until I have a need for higher than 4K they are going to remain my cameras of choice. My no for easy to use is not because the camera is complicated but because it has so many features that one has to spend the time necessary to learn how to use it to its best.

I have found a camera that brings my video quality to the next level. The GH5s produces incredible image quality especially with the tones in the shadows and low lighting. Great dynamic range and very similar to the GH4. Works well on the DJI Ronin SC using a 12 45mm 2.8f and the 7 14mm 2.8f Panasonic Lens.

Bought this after researching several cameras. Image stabilization and video quality is fantastic. I havent tried 4K yet though. Be aware VLog is sold separately. It does record sound in camera which is great, and the customizable buttons will be handy as I get more familiar with the camera. Autofocus has issues as others have said, but I mainly manual focus anyway.

I primarily use the camera to create instructional videos for maths, computing and physics. This includes explanations and demonstration of how lenses and lighting work. The camera is also used as the live source for developing new video transmission codecs. The camera has been used for video calls and meetings as part of the codec development and for general online meetings though it is obviously massively overkill for the latter. And finally, I use the camera for home videos and for my daughter to learn about photography and video making.

The biggest gripe I have is the speed sensitive manual focus on lumix lenses makes it unusable for pulling focus consistently and smoothly. As primarily a video system this doesnt make sense. Please make linear an option in a firmware update. I doubt I will buy any more lumix lenses otherwise. Secondly give up on the autofocus system.

I purchased this camera and lens for my business. Im a part time wedding videographer and I needed an upgrade from my Nikon. I did a lot of research before buying this camera, too. Ive filmed 3 weddings so far with this camera, and I have no complaints. The auto focus is quick, options out of the wazoo for videos and still pictures. Im going to be using this camera for a long time

I use this camera alongside my old gh3. The 5 is the A cam and the 3 is the B cam. I film mainly documentary materials in the uk. I have a gimbal that works very well with the 5. I do my own sound using a Mixpre 3 along with several pro mics. I find this combo provides top notch audio. I have my own lighting kit as well.

I just LOVE this camera. 3 years later and its still a dream to work with. There are other cameras out there that have a little more dynamic range, a little more pleasing image. There are dedicated video cameras that have ND filters and native XLR in. But when I look at the whole package, with mediumlarge sensor and a camera that does good stills and fantastic video, all the options that it has in video modes including 10 bit and full open gate 6K, plus the amazing image stabilization, this camera is just the perfect do everything camera.

I use this product as a man camera sometimes, and a broll camera other times. Initially I considered it a secondary camera because I was skeptical, with its compact size and all. But now I am fully confident in its capabilities and its size is actually part of its arsenal. The stunning video that I get out of it, in 4.2.2 sill amazes me. I do mainly commercial shoots, and made my first dabble into panasonic with this camera. Yes, some client eyebrows raise it its not megarigged out, but when they see what it can do… their mouths are left hanging open. So I like its run and gun portability. Its a tremendous part of its value. Plus the slowmo Mmmmmm creamy creamy yummy yum yum People always want perfection but nothing is perfect. Its not about what is Its about what strives to be perfect I spend most of my time shooting in the Caribbean Sun, and this camera has proven to be a real contender in that hot sun and salt air. Plus I can slap it into my back pack. Easy. To switch from large camcorders like the URSA mini 4K, and to put down my Canon series DSLRs, and pick this up confidently for many of my shooting requirements is testament to how much I believe in the product.

So far the GH5 is better than expected. Good clean crisp image, awesome features and format choices, such as no record limit, dual card slots, full size HDMI out. and 20 Megapixel sensor. One area that Im disappointed in, is that it doesnt have a built in flash like the GH4, but the aforementioned features, help to make up for this. Overall, despite the GH4 and GH5 coming out several years ago, they are still incredible still photography and filmmaking tools.

Afters years of researching, we felt confident purchasing the GH5. It is a BEAST of a camera. From stills to videos, it can handle 4k footage and everything about the camera is so ideal. The flip out touch screen is perfect for vlogging, while its robust body can take a great amount of stress and beating. Its completely weather sealed which is perfect for piece of mind. We took this bad boy out for a 2 weeks travel and it withholds even the extremely conditions. the GH5 is a great investment for anyone looking for a future prove camera.

I had this camera on preorder when it first came out and have used it on a daily basis for either photographyfilming. Its been used thousands of feet up a mountain in 20 temperature and blizzard. Been used on sandy beaches in 38 degrees and been used in torrential rain and never let me down. The small form factor and the native lenses allow me to get into places without being noticed. It truly is a wonderful piece of kit.

I purchased the GH5 as an upgrade to the FZ2000 that has served me well over the last few years. I intend to use the GH5 to take both stills and video of local musicians, but owing to the current lock down this has not been possible. I have run some tests and like the IBIS system. I have taken quite a few photographs and I am very happy with the quality of most of them, never have I been able to get consistently good results, provided I get the settings right there is a learning curve.

I didnt want to be like everyone else and get a Sony, or a Nikon, like everyone else does. I just had to be different. And I honestly cant complain.Easy to use, but READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. Its pretty much the same for all digital cameras, but this one, you want to be comfortable when you get to the upper echelons of photography. Granted, Im not ready for the top of the game, but I know what to do when I get there. And this camera, is my ride.

I am a TVVideo student in my last year of college. Ive been shopping around for a camera upgrade for quite a while now, as its about time for me to put together a professional portfolio and reel, as well as the capability of producing more professionalgrade content. The GH5 seemed to be the right choice for my price range, as I had been saving money all year. This GH5 bundle made it a breeze to unpack the body lens as well as the attachments, familiarize myself with the setup, and shoot within a day. Beach Camera sent me the package promptly, and I had the GH5 in my hands within 4 days of ordering the product. I was able to bring it to my videography job and start recording quality footage of the events the following day. This portable, versatile camera was the perfect option for me, and the bundle allowed me to grab and go, and get an extremely fair price on everything. I foresee myself using this product well into the future sweepstakes

I preordered this camera based on what I now realize was marketing hype from select reviewers and panasonic employees who didnt show the autofocus but assured me personally it was super fast and reliable and the only reason they couldnt show us was because it was preproduction firmware. Like a big dummy, I believed that and preordered and excitedly waited for the camera to arrive. Well, as it turns out the video autofocus is unusable because the face tracking…well…wont face track. Not reliably anyways. Its pretty much a nonstarter when your job requires you to be in front of the camera. However, even when behind the camera I found the focusing difficult. The peaking was just off and focus assist was only available before you hit record. Once you hit record all bets are off. If you add to that the lens are focus by wire and the screen though awesome is really too small for making focus adjustments, there is literally no way to adjust focus reliably when you or your subject is moving. 4K60, 5 stop stabilization, duel card slots, etc. All awesome for the price but none of that is helpful if you cant keep things in focus and if your client is getting annoyed waiting on you to check and double check it every single time you move the camera. If you are shooting in a studio or in a controlled environment where you have time more time to set up than I do, this could be an EXCELLENT camera for you When you add to that that none of the color profiles look all that great to me in camera and the XLR1 doesnt lock down securely on the hot shoe it wiggles, and the batteries only last a little over an hour, AND the battery grip tripod mount is so far off to the side that the weight of the camera and lens actually makes the whole kit lean 1 degree on my heavy duty tripod, its just not a good fit for me…and I betting Im not all that different than a lot of folks who are buying this.

This is one of the better all inclusive DSLRs out there for film. They actually built this DSLR from the opposite spectrum of DSLRs as the GH5 and GH5S is geared towards filmmakers. The internal Codecs are remarkable to have. I only wish the Autofocus was better for gimbal work, and there is no IBIS, other than that, you cant beat this deal.

Ok I just bought one for video at 2021. I have a7III as my main video and photo camera before. The photo is no question better than GH5. But for video, GH5 lose some but gain some as well. Let me talk about it.The main intention to buy a new camera is to use for handheld shooting. The a7III has ibis but you can not really do any smooth panning or slider kind shot with handheld. That is where GH5 really shine. You can certainly do slow panning and some slow slider shots just with your hand. You can make it perfect buy add tiny bit of warp in post. What even better is the IS lock, that is what I call a game changer feature. You really do not need tripod. It is almost still. You just need use warp and set no motion in PR and it only crop 12. And you get a dead still tripod shot. This is so vauleable for overhead shot. Normally you need bring some kind supporting system and hang your camera there. But now you just handheld and you got perfectly still shot. Game changer for how I shoot and what I need to bring. Speed up the shooting and made life easier.Yes GH5 lack low light and auto focus that where a7III shines. So I will keep both cameras for different need.

As an actor filmmaker and photographer, this type of dslr has been long awaited. theres so much one can say about this camera. Been working with some of the big cams out there, RED etc, this delivers. I have mainly full frame glass but thanks to speed booster adapters i can use them all including the rokinon cine lenss on it with amazing results. Its very popular now for weddings, music vids, documentary and short films all paid work which gives you and idea of its capabilities including the quality to get your work on Netflix subject to a well told story Im currently writing a feature film script and looking to buy a couple more of these as its becoming one of my favourite go to cameras excellent for run n gun. You wont be disappointed by the photography side either. Every camera has its limitations as well as its advantages and then there is the vision or story the beholder wants to tell or show from which to decided on their equipment and accessories. I believe this camera will not disappoint, more to the point, youre more likely to pick up something else in addition but definitely not to replace as there isnt much it cant do and if anything, it will certainly move you in the real world of serious photographyfilmmaking. It will take a while to get around all the menusfunctions etc, especially for beginner…just when you think youve nailed it, youll learn theres more that it can do that. Youll have a great journey and experience developing your talents with this camera. You can find many in depth reviews of this product and how you can build it up with accessories etc to go another level. Enjoy.

I have just used two GH5s units on a twoweek shoot in Norway. One was handheld and the other was on a gimbal. Unfortunately, relying on autofocus for the gimbal resulted in a significant minority of the clips with the subject not in focus. We shot in HLG mode for the extra dynamic range and are very happy with this HDR mode. The main problem with autofocus is when light levels are low, or when the subject does not fully fill the center of the frame.I also found that using a DSLR on a gimbal rather than a shouldersupported camcorder not only means loss of easy focus control but also loss of most zoom capability. Generally a DSLR on a gimbal means a wide angle lens with none to very little zoom capability. My feeling is that at present day, both types of video acquisition devices, i.e. DSLR on gimbal and shouldermounted camcorder are needed for best flexibility. Of course, some may rightly say that a drone must be added to the mix tooIn conclusion I am happy with the great stable video that is now possible. It is too bad though that we have to loose zoom and focus capability to accomplish it. If a reader knows a way to work around these problems, then please let me know in reply.

This camera is an extremely powerful tool for shooting gorgeous, gradable, professional videos. While all of the bells whistles of this camera are great its important to keep in perspective what kind of content will be created using this tool. I work at the Center for Innovative Teaching Learning at Western Kentucky University where we produce a number of different types of video content. Green screen work, interviews, guest speakers, onlocation run gun, and in studio productions. Our chief priority is image quality, color grade ability, long record time, oncamera audio control, and cost. With the Panasonic hot shoe audio unit, this camera fits the bill in all of those areas. Numerous YouTubers have been on the offensive about the auto focus incapability, battery life, and 5axis sensor stabilization. To address these specifically, the auto focus is a nonissue to me. As I mentioned before in regards to keeping in perspective the type of content being created with this tool, all of the content we create have the focus either locked down, or we use the focus assist with our external monitor to focus manually when not locked down. If autofocus is a chief concern for you, there are much cheaper options with better auto focus systems, aka Sony a6500. For the battery life, I cant believe this is even brought up as an issue. The camera is processing significantly more amounts of data than its previous generations, using the same battery from the previous generation, therefore requiring more from the battery thus draining the battery quicker. With this in mind, I shot for a 3 hour window using our dedicated audio unit, external monitor, and sensor stabilization and still had 1 bar left on the battery. Which I believe equates to at most 33.3 of the battery left. As for the stabilization, this has also been a nonissue. Weve paired the body up with the Panasonic 25mm 1.7, and it looks smooth without any jarring or swaying. Pros I explained our specific use earlier, but here is a list of the features I value the most 422 10bit 5 axis sensor stabilization Dedicated audio unit No record limit Hot swapable cards Portability Large Buttons Mode lock Physical button layout Touch screen accuracy Overlay focus assist, histogram, zebras, etc. Cons To be fair, this camera does have some quirks. After hitting the record button to stop recording, Ive had the unit pause up to 5 seconds long until the camera indicated it no longer was recording. In one instance this lead to confusion of when we were and were not recording for the next take. There have been several instances where the flip out screen is black with the display overlay for up to 10 seconds before the image shows. Not being able to charge via the USBC seems like a missed opportunity, although there are work arounds. While this specific quark is photography based, out of the box and in Manual mode the camera does not have the Constant Preview option enabled. Out of the box, when looking at the EVF the camera appears to be setting auto exposure, even in manual mode, however its not actually setting auto exposure. It appears to be attempting to intelligently show me proper exposure, but isnt actually changing the exposure settings. If while facing the front of the camera you hit the preview button to the left of the lens, it will give you an accurate representation of the actual exposure for the image. If the Constant Preview is enabled, the camera does this without having to hit that button. Coming from the Sony Canon world, this was interesting and notable. In summary, this camera is the exact tool we needed for our department. Its cost effective, yet produces amazing video images. I couldnt be happier with the purchase.

Like all cameras, the GH5 has its flaws, but overall its an excellent camera especially at its price. I use it almost exclusively for video. The picture quality is excellent and well above its predesesor the GH4. Strengths really good builtin image stabilization that becomes even better with Panasonic lenses that also have stabilization, 4k at 60fps, decent in lowlight when coupled with an f2.8 or better lens, long battery life, no video time limit, dual card slots, solid. Weaknesses not so great auto focus Panasonic has improved this but its still not the greatest be sure to set sensitivity to low, image stabilization eats batteries faster than the GH4, but they still last fairly long aprox. 120150 minutes. I dont recommend using auto exposure or Intelligent Auto mode for video during daylight filming. It will fluctuate from overexposed to underexposed even when the camera is stationary and theres little movement on screen. This doesnt seem to be a problem in lowlight, however.

Definitely a good buy. A few niggling details I dont like, but it will be great, I think, for my purposes. I still plan on a full frame something or other when the makers of such things make something that is better than the things that currently exist. Working with this camera sparks creativity. The details I dont like The playback button is on the left side of the camera like the 5dmk2 so you have to change your grip to press it. The viewfinder does not articulate. Some of the verbiage used in the complex menu system is kind of strange, so takes a while to find things. Low light performance not so good. ahem Oh … the LCD … it articulates .. great But from stowed position it is hard to grab it. Yes .. they made it fiddly to get a thumbnail under the edge to lift it out of its socket. Some things I DO like Picture and video quality is very detailed yet natural, in fine details, atmosphere, and color. Light rolloff is much more pleasing than Sony exception being FS700 shooting RAW or PRHQ to 7Q So I like how the output looks. The buttons and knobs are numerous, customizable, and for the most part, well laid out. They could have made some of them a little bit higher, with more feely detents or dits to aid in finding the buttons without looking. The scroll wheels for shutter speed and aperture are at forefinger and thumb … .you can twiddle both at same time. Ability to program pretty much everythinggood. One thing I like now is the back button focus snaps the focus into place, and then allow manual focus to continue.

Superb video and stills camera. The GH5 has been out long enough for thorough vetting by countless videographers, and it certainly has been a consistently reliable workhorse for the dozens of projects Ive used it for since getting it about six months ago. The Leicabranded 24120mm equivalent zoom is also a solid performer, sharp and versatile. No arbitrary recording time limit, no overheating issues, and rugged weather resistant construction make this a consummate professionals tool.

When the 2020 pandemic hit I was tasked with videoing our local church masses for the duration, As anticipated, this remains a long term project, and a rugged, reliable, video oriented hybrid workhorse camera was needed. As a long time Lumix user, the GH5 was the obvious choice. It has served well, without any glitches or surprises, and I expect it will continue to do so into 2021. Nice bonus is the Leica kit lens, which is versatile, sharp, and balances well on the GH5. This is a kit which I intend to keep well past the current COVID crisis.

Its such a great camera and I would recommend it to almost anyone. My two main areas I would love to see improvement in are 1 the auto focus being more reliable and two the white balance, particularly auto white balance a lot of other cameras I have used tell you what temperature you at even when using auto white balance, this means you can choose auto, let the camera tell you what is the best white balance and then manually set the white balance as that so it doesnt change during a take. Unfortunately, as far as I know there is no way to find out what white balance the camera is at when auto is being used.

I use this camera mostly for still photography and some videography, since I am still getting aquainted with the later as it has such great and advanced features. I must say the autofocus speed is slightly behind the competition. It still suffices for my type of photography, which is landscape, cityshooting and portraiture. I love the IBIS of the camera which makes shooting of stills and videos without a tripod very easy. The dual memory card slots and continuous video shooting in excess of one hour is the icing topping the cake in this durable and compact hybrid mirrorless camera.

I would like to see the autofokus for follow focus improved. The autofocus has come a long way thanks to the free firmware updates. The camera today is totally different from the camera 2 years ago. I thought I would never use follow focus, when a bought the camera, but the technological development i the market and the use of gimbals has made it more interesting to have reliable follow focus. I use my 2 G9s for that. They are completely different animals when it comes to follow focus in video and stills. I would also like the follow focus in photomode to be more reliable. For non follow focus, the autofocus is exellent. Comming from Canons fulframe DSLRserie 5 1 the autofocus in the GH G cameras was lightyears ahead. The color science in the G9 for stills is better and I would like the GH6 to have the same or better color science.

I originally went for the Sony A7iii and unfortunately it just stopped working after a week. I saw the features of the LUMIX GH5 and it has been so user friendly, the 4K video and 6k photo quality was a game changer The touch screen viewer made such a difference too and the layout is much more user friendly I would definitely recommend this to an enthusiast or even semipro like myself

Great camera and bundle from Adorama. I first bought a G9 and I like it so much I decided to get a GH5 and I will eventually get the 14140mm lens. All the stuff in the bundle is useful for me, so why just buy the camera alone when for the same price you get a bunch of free stuff and Adorama service. I like to film documentary interviews so having an A and B camera will help. I use wireless lav mics and shotgun mics, just depends on the subject and the room acoustics. A video camera wo microphone and headphone jacks is a nogo, and the articulating LCD is an absolute requirement.
Jeff –
The GH5S has so much going for it, but it has one fatal flaw that I utterly HATE. When the battery life is below about half, it may not process the 4K video files or long time exposures. Numerous times I have gotten home, only to realize that critical footage is missing or corrupted. I called Panasonic support and they said it was not an issue, just shoot with a battery that is above half charge or drop the resolution below 4K. Corrupted files not an issue Unbelievable. If I cannot trust that the footage will be there when I get home, I cannot use it for anything of importance which is mostly what I shoot. If you do purchase this camera, make sure you shoot any highly important footage with a second camera.

Personally, I use the camera professionally for filming, as a hobby, photos that give me a lot of joy. In both cases, I am very pleased. A very versatile tool. Handy, not too big, you can travel without problems because it does not take up much space. A large selection of lenses. Very plastic image quality. The battery works relatively long. There are only two cons in my opinion, the display button is in the wrong place, I press too often by accident and reasonably acceptable noise in photos

Prior to buying this camera I did a ton of research on it. Now that I have it its been easy to learn and fun to use. Im using for both stills and videos. If you have the money and willing to make the investment I suggest you seriously look into this Panasonic GH5. This camera is amazingAlso, I feel very comfortable buying it from Best Buy because of their warranty and ease of buying it online.

I started my Panasonic journey after buying the GH4 to fit on a drone. I started to use the camera just for fun and soon realised I had a little gem in my hands. Using the GH4 got me into shooting professional video I had always been a stills photographer until then but what a lightbulb moment in my career and income buying Panasonic has turned out to be. Having been so impressed with the GH4 I bought the GH5 as soon as it came out and it is an amazing camera. Im a professional photographer and have shot Canon 5d series from the original up to the 5d mk3. When I got the GH5 with the new sensor I did some comparative shots on a tripod of the same subject with both the 5dmk3 and the GH5. I shot both cameras in raw and processed in LR and Photoshop. I expected the Canon to come out with better images just by having a slightly bigger sensor and being full frame but I honestly couldnt tell the difference, even zooming in to pixel level. The GH5 is now my go to camera for stills and especially video. The articulated screen is so versatile Canon take note your professionals need this on the 5d and 1d series cameras The weight of the GH5 is a real joy as well. My L series Canon lenses are amazing but after a day of shooting a wedding with the 2470 and the 70200 lenses my right thumb and my wrist aches from the carrying such a big combination. With the GH5 and the comparable 1235 and 35100 lenses the weight is about half that of the Canon and no perceptible loss of quality. The GH5 for me is nothing short of amazing. My Canon cameras and lenses have now taken a back seat to the GH5 and I am very pleased and very happy to recommend the Panasonic Lumix GH5 to anyone

I used to be a Canon shooter, but I got frustrated with Canon not listening to the DSLR cinematographers like myself, and not spending more time enhancing the video capabilities of their cameras enough. So I decided to try Panasonic starting with the GH4. I was impressed with it and loved the images I was getting out of it, primarily when I shot footage to an external recorder. Now, having upgraded to the GH5, I can say with confidence that Panasonic is the real king of DSLR cinema. The internal 10bit 422 color space allows me to shoot without the need for an external recorder. The inbody image stabilizer makes handheld shooting much smoother, the addition of 4K 60p is a beautiful option for specific projects, and the lack of an antialiasing filter makes the images significantly sharper. Even the low light capability is improved. I can get clean and usable footage at ISO 1,600 with little to no noise. Also, what noise there is, is very fine grained and is much more filmlike than the ugly digital noise you might otherwise expect. I could not be happier with this camera. Panasonic has outdone themselves. Highly recommended for videographers, cinematographers, and of course photographers. Panasonic, keep up the good work.

The GH5s is a great camera. My GH5s is a used camera but everything is checking out well. Looking forward to using the camera for video, as well as still, photography. My Panasonic lenses work perfectly with this camera. The optical image stabilization is in the lens as there is no stabilization in the camera body…stabilization switch on lens will set the icon on the LCD display. No IBIS was done to offer a newlarger image sensor. The controls are in the same places as my G6G7 cameras. The displayrecall button is now in the upper leftside of the LCD by the LVF button. Menus seem almost identical to G6G7 cameras but have mounds of more featuressettings. Especially looking forward to trying out all the various video settings. I miss a strobe on the camera but there is a hotshoe if one is needed. I especially like the minijoystick…and along with the quadbutton and rotary dials, makes for easily setting functions on the camera. The camera is barely heavier than my G7. The batteries are different than for the G6G7 also. Im still reading the manual…much to read about…and watching videos. Just might pick up another GH5s

i really like this product it is just as i expected. tghe price is really good for the quality that is offered i am using it now and it is great. reall happy with this purchase,To be honest, not everyone needs so much resolution in fact, most people dont. Weve been quite pleased with the 24MP images from the Sony A7 III and other cameras with similar sensors. 61MP comes out to 9,504 x 6,336 pixels, or enough resolution to make a 31 x 21inch print at 300 pixels per inch. For another perspective, 8K TV, still a nascent technology, is only 7,680 x 4,320 pixels, or about 33MP. If superlarge prints or extensive cropping are in your plans, then the A7R IV probably looks very attractive. But for viewing images online, especially on the likes of Instagram, its beyond overkill.

Not speaking about the camera. Which is excellent. But the bundle that comes with it. The lens is an all around great lens for most situations. The other items that come with this bundle are good. Very nice to have functional filters and extra batteries and smart charger. The tripod is a crutch until you get a good one. Its too lightweight, fragile, and lacks a flyid head. For a pro camera like the GH5, you want a heavy duty fluid head anyway. Still, a nice bundle.

I own a production company and approve all purchases, so when some of the up and coming team here requested this camera we bought it. But despite all of the great resolution features, if you cant rely on video manual or auto focus, then its pointless, as its really the one thing you cant fix in post. This review is based on this camera, paired with the 1235 ii Panasonic Lumix lens. First, autofocus. We use all Red manual focus cameras here, or Canons with Dual Pixel. Dual Pixel is fast, it locks onto faces, it locks focus fast and typically keeps it. With the GH5, using all focus tracking settings, we were able to track subjects, however, the lens would hunt for focus, always taking 35 seconds when moving between focus points. With Canon, if you were tracking, youd be in focus. Not so with the GH5. The autofocus is simply unreliable and we had no confidence in it. When filming presentations where we often have a subject who is moving between focal distances, dual pixel has made this work very easy. The GH5 makes the footage unusable. So then we tested out manual focus. Note that 2 focus assist features only work in manual. Peaking. And also assist, which is the GH5 term for magnify. These do not work in auto mode. In manual, we had 2 major issues. The first is inconsistent focus through the zoom. Sit a subject down, zoom in on the eye, get focus, zoom out, magnify to check focus…the focus would be lost. Zoom back in, youre out of focus again. The second issue is focus speed ramping. We noticed that when pulling focus or searching for focus using manual and looking for peaking for example, youd have to crank the ring pretty far to get focus to adjust, but then as it got closer to the focus limit, the focus would move much faster, or ramp. The speed was inconsistent. This made it very difficult to pull focus while following a subject as the focus was inconsistent. To prove this, we turned on the visual focus bar, and here you can see that as you turn the focus ring, it will move slow in the center, then speed up at the edges. In addition, the focus and zoom ring rotate in the opposite direction of Canon and frankly every other lens we have here. I honestly do not understand how anyone who is a professional is using this camera and thinks these issues are acceptable. They are not. And with that we are sending it back. With that said, I wonder how it would work with a Metabones and Canon L lens for example. Im not willing to spend more capital to find out. On a side note, if youre asking what we think about Sony. Every single frame of A7Rii footage thats ever come into the studio here has green or blue cool tones that dont match the color science of our pro gear, or our clients requests. Despite Canon lagging in features, the color science and dual pixel make it the gear that fits our needs when we dont use the Red gear.

I bought the GH5 to replace my GrPro and HCV800 to maximise the captured video quality. I primarily use the camera in a caving environment where by it is subject to very dark and wet conditions not submersed. The improvement over my previous cameras is like chalk and cheese far better video quality without exception and the low light capability really is not a problem at all as long as the correct settings are used whilst maintaining a relatively low ISO. The stabilization is superb and the camera seems to take all the abuse thrown at it. The only slight downside is the autofocus which really isnt that bad but you always have to be aware on the focus point and focus setting being used. Generally I always run in manual mode and set the focus to a known object distance before we start filming so that all subjects in the focal range remain in sharp focus. This works for me as being used mostly in caves rather reduces the distance that it is possible to see in real life anyway, so not really a drawback as such.

I know its a little preemptive to write a review for a camera that has not yet been released but for me, I can already rate the GH5 5 star and I will tell you why. Im a full time content creator with a video focus and I own 2 x GH3 and a GH4 camera systems. For anyone wondering about the Panasonic GH5, I wanted to fill in this blank space here on my all time fav store and let you all know that even sight unseen, I know this camera is going to be a fantastic upgrade and a no brainer for anyone already invested in the M43 platform. As a professional content producer for all kinds of web clients who want quality video content that they can use to educate, inform and entertain even my old GH3s are capable of doing what is needed. But there is a reason I purchased a GH4 and I will buy the GH5 for the exact same reason which I will tell you now. I purchased a GH4 because its easier to use. Im a creative person and the less Im bogged down in the technical side of things when I am shooting a video, the better. Amongst other things, the GH4 made it much easier to achieve focus and capture great audio and shoot 4k for punch ins on interviews and I even use it as an unmanned camera for event videography. Yes you heard me correct, I have 3 cameras and Im only one man so at least two of my cameras are locked off. The GH5 sounds like it will takes things up a notch with 6k which offers all of the advantages of 4k but the larger image means even more scope for selective panning, tracking, zooming etc in post. But this is not actually the reason I will be buying the camera. The reason I will be buying the GH5 and the reason I can confidently rate the camera so highly with even the tiny little bit of information available is because I have 3 GH5 prototypes right here with me and they are all rock solid professional tools that have never failed to help me to bring home the bacon. With the introduction of the Panasonic GH5, its all going to be even easier. And why, with my production degree and 10 years experience would I care about easier image capture Well because Im lazy……naturally….. Not really, the actual reason is because the easier it is to capture great looking images and audio the more we can focus on creating engaging stories that people want to watch. 422 internal means extra latitude to adjust the image in post without the bulky external recorders and batteries. Better metering will make it easier to set exposure, better focus will… well, you get the picture. Since 2008 when I first started the hybrid camera journey with a Canon 5DMII, I have been guilty of more than my share of pixel peeping and yes, even a little equipment paralysis. BUT as each generation continued to improve on the previous, the which camera debate has become less and less relevant for me and most of the professionals in my network. The new Panasonic GH5, for this producer at least, wont require a Philip Bloom review or Dougies opinion to warrant purchasing. I know this camera will make my job easier and thats about all the excuse I need I hope you enjoyed my commentary have a great one…. Paddy McCann

Dear, extremely satisfied with the image quality of my Lumix Gh5. It offers a large selection of recording formats. I use the photo only for family purposes. In video recording, a major drawback is autofocus, which is unreliable unstable. Focusing should be softer. I solve this by manual adjustment. Autofocus in video recording is the only drawback of this camera.

I bought this for my son who is getting into videography. I did a lot of research first. And, it seems the GH5 gets glowing reviews from everyone including pros who use much more expensive gear. Im not a rank amateur as I have been shooting for over 50 years. With 4×5, Hasselblad, Canon, Nikon, etc. Videography is new to me though. And, from what Ive seen of the GH5 I bought for my son, I am tempted to buy one for myself It is feature rich competing with platforms costing much more. Yet, it is small, light, and easy to shoot with and not be as noticed. There is a huge variety of optics available for Micro Four Thirds which makes the GH5 a very attractive camera. In short, I would recommend the GH5 to anyone wanting to get into videography. Im still a full frame purist for stills. But, that could change. Its a lot easier to carry the GH5 than my D850 with all the gear. Leaves me wondering….
