Description

LEICA DG Objektiv – höchste Auflösung und geringste Verzeichnung. The Panasonic Lumix 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. lens (model number H-NS043E) is a premium prime lens designed for Micro Four Thirds (MFT) mirrorless cameras. Here’s an overview of its features:

Focal Length and Aperture: With a focal length of 42.5mm, this lens is classified as a short telephoto lens, making it ideal for portrait photography and capturing subjects with a flattering perspective. The wide maximum aperture of f/1.2 allows for excellent low-light performance and creates a shallow depth of field, resulting in beautifully blurred backgrounds and enhanced subject isolation.

Optical Design: The lens typically features a sophisticated optical design that includes multiple specialized elements, such as aspherical elements, to minimize various aberrations and distortions. This ensures high image quality with sharpness, clarity, and minimal optical flaws.

POWER O.I.S. Stabilization: The lens is equipped with Panasonic’s POWER Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) technology, which helps to reduce the effects of camera shake and allows for sharper handheld shooting, especially in low-light conditions or when using slower shutter speeds.

Fast and Quiet Autofocus: The lens typically utilizes a high-speed and near-silent autofocus system, allowing for quick and accurate focusing performance, which is particularly beneficial for capturing fast-moving subjects or achieving precise focus in various shooting situations.

Durable Construction: The lens usually features a robust and weather-sealed construction, making it resistant to dust, moisture, and harsh environmental conditions. This ensures durability and reliability, even in challenging shooting environments.

Versatile Usage: In addition to portrait photography, the lens can also be used for various other types of photography, such as street photography, weddings, events, and low-light photography, where its wide aperture and image stabilization capabilities come in handy.

Compatibility: The lens is designed specifically for Micro Four Thirds cameras, such as those from Panasonic and Olympus. It provides a 35mm equivalent focal length of approximately 85mm, taking into account the MFT sensor’s 2x crop factor.

Overall, the Panasonic Lumix 42.5mm f/1.2 ASPH. POWER O.I.S. lens is a high-quality and versatile prime lens that offers superb optical performance, fast autofocus, effective image stabilization, and durable construction, making it an excellent choice for portrait photographers and enthusiasts who demand superior image quality and creative control.

This lens, when wide open, can produce results with the right balance of angle of view, depth of field, and image quality . It is an ideal portrait lens.

Not only is this lens a great performer in very low light conditions, it also does a great job in all sorts of lighting conditions. I find myself leaving it on the camera more than any other lens. If the subject is too close I just back away. Its a great lens.

Given its high price I did expect this lens to be great so my expectations was high. Knowing the m43 sensor size I wanted a lens that does decent DOF so I went for F1.2. Some backgrounds I am new to the m43 format, my other cameras are Nikon D700 full frame and Fuji X100S APSC. Sample pictures are taken using Panasonic GM1. The lens itself is well constructed, feel solid and heavy, but since all fast lenses are made of tons of glasses so I wouldnt call it a negative. Aperture and focus rings are butter smooth and easy to operate. Auto focus is very fast just a tiny bit slower than the kit lens came with GM1 but it is fast nevertheless and the color is very good.Of course the reason for getting this lens is for its F1.2 and I must say that I am not disappointed. At F1.2 the image is still incredibly sharp It is the sharpest lens in my fast lens collection, period. So if you dont mind the weight and its relative high price then this is an excellent lens for you m43 camera. Get it if you want an auto focus LEICA, shallow DOF, and do lots of portrait shots.

This lens is worth the price. It is large for an m43 lens, but it pulls you into a whole new realm of wonderful with what it can do. I cannot praise the image quality enough. I also own the Olympus 75mm f1.8 which is a great lens. This one though is just different, its artistic in a way that other lenses arent. Wonderful for low light shooting. It did a fantastic job photographing an indoor Nickel Creek concert.

PROS Highest resolving lens on my GH4 the micro contrast creates amazing 3D pop effects in portrait shots. This lens is amazingly good at f1.2 I used to own the Voigtlander 42.5mm f0.95 lens but I found I had to stop it down to f2.8 or even f4 to get edge to edge sharpness. What is the point of a f0.95 lens which is only useful f2.8 I have sold my Voigtlander sice purchasing the Noctricon. The greatest thing about the Noctricon is the colour and bokeh. It is also super sharp f1.2 edge to edge.CONS Very expensive. The lens barrel is rather big and on my GH4 it protrudes below the mounting plate problem solved by replacing the tripod mounting plate with one with a smaller length. The lens hood is rather big.

The sharpness at F1.2, color, contrast, build quality, stabilization, the Leica look its all there. I was skeptical when I mounted this thing on my GH5 but no pixel peeper can deny the quality in the RAW files this lens can make. Its stunning. It turns ordinary subjects into art. And dont get me started on the bokeh. How this thing makes a tack sharp sliver of a focal plane at F1.2 melt away into a blissful and oh so pleasing smooth cloud of blurriness will confounded your senses. Micro four thirds cameras are as good as ANYTHING on the market when you use the right lenses like this one.

After a year of my thinking about it, BH had a couple hundred bucks off sale, so I bought one. I come from decades of great Nikon gear, so appreciate a nice sharp image. Other objective technical reviewers have said this lens is among the best of any brand, and my subjective opinion concurs. The focal length is a sweetspot for portraits, gardens, family dogs and kids, and many other applications. Bokeh is just what you want, and the 1.2 aperture offers new opportunities in nonflash low light. Yes, it costs a few extra bucks, but if quality is important to you, get one.

This has got to be one of the best lenses you can get for the M43 system. Its incredibly sharp and the images are supreme. If you love bokeh, youll love this lens. Its my favorite lens out of my collection. Cant say enough good things about it. Worth every penny.

I bought the 42.5 Nocticron for low light portrait shooting on my em1. Notwithstanding the well documented balky autofocus problems with the em1 in low light, I recently shot closeup people pictures at f1.2, ISO 12,800 at an Independence Day celebration in the Dominican Republic with truly outstanding results. In regular light, of course, there are no autofocus problems and the lens is as sharp as advertised, while the bokeh is creamy. A beautiful lens which looks and feels terrific on an em1. Many people comment on what a great looking rig it is. Glad I picked it up.

Im using the 42.5 lens primarily for headshots but feel that its a great all around people lens if youre looking to obtain shallow depth of field on the M 43 cameras. Ive read some reviews that felt the lens was large or heavy but i havent found it to be either one at least when compared to DSLR lenses

Unfortunately this was the first lens I got with the GH4. Now every other lens I have tried does not come even close to this. I even have the Sigma 1835 art lens with the new metabones speedbooster XL 0.64 which takes me to f1.1 and that does not even come close to how good this 42.5 looks. it is worth every penny

Great portrait and boudoir capture glass. No distortion or fringe. Could almost have been APO. Very fast, snappy focus on an OMD EM1. Do need to set up the camera for the IS feature if used on an Oly.A joy to work with on the road and on location.Bad lens shade. Should have had a 35mm older Summicron design, or best, the 1240mm Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 1240mm f2.8 PRO shade to lens mount, plasticnylon, not metal. Shock passed unto the lens if hitting door frames, and glue bleeds.

This is a great lens that will give you excellent results. Undoubtedly the best that m43 currently has to offer. If the cost is not an issue, this is the lens that every m43 user needs to have. Great for portraits. Autofocus is fast. It is a little heavy and large for what is supposed to be a compact system but if youre buying this lens, it isnt for the size but the results.

    Technology

Everything about this lens makes it an investment worth making. It has the fastest focus, best color, most clarity, and its incredibly sharp even at 1.2. Solid construction and will last for decades. It really is a dream to work with. For me, the 30mm Sigma DN takes second place as far as prime lenses go. Its a better value for the , but use this lens in the field and you will know why its 4x the price. Its truly a pleasure to operate.

Optically this is a truly wonderful lens. If you are looking for a very fast 85mm equivalent lens for your m43 body that also has autofocus, this lens will not let you down even at f1.2 it is razor sharp in the center and quite sharp even to the corners. There is a hint of LoCA in some of the out of focus elements at f1.2, but surprisingly little I dont know if my EM1 is doing incamera processing on those aberrations even on RAW files or not. Vignetting is present but well controlled at f1.2, giving an overall pleasing look pleasing to me. Bokeh rendering is fantastic. You can get subject separation from the background even at a range of 15 or more feet from your subject something I personally thought Id need a full frame sensor to achieve. The build quality is very solid, all metal. The hood is a clampstyle that I wasnt used to, but I just leave it on all the time rather than try to reverse it your mileage may vary on that score. The lens is not explicitly weather sealed, which is unfortunate at this price it should be. In short this is a great portraitshort tele lens that works perfectly on my OMD EM1. Note I use the IBIS of the EM1 so I havent evaluated the OIS on the lens.

  35. blank

    Jeffrey

Great build and imaging qualities sharpness, contrast, bokeh. There is some vignetting in the corners, and well in from the corners shooting wide open. Corner sharpness is not perfect shooting wide open.It is pretty big and heavy for m43, but is about the same size as a midquality FF lens with the same field of view. I moved from an EF 1002, but comparison with the more closelymatched 851.8 apply. The Nocticron is the same weight, and about the same dimensions bit smaller diameter but slightly longer. It has a better build, adds stabilization, and performs better wide open.

  36. blank

    George

Finally the micro43 line is starting to fill with fast aperture lenses. This is the fastest lens in this focal length category that has autofocus. In addition, it come with optical image stabilization a plus when using it Panasonic cameras. The bokeh on this lens is very nice and is equivalent to an 85mm f2.4 lens from the depthoffield perspective. What I have found, in 35mm FF imaging, is that the fast 1.4 aperture 85mm portrait lenses are seldom useable wide open except in straight on portraits more often, the aperture is stopped down to at least f2 to ensure both eyes are in focus. So, the Nocticron is more useable wide open than a fast portrait lens for FF. Its a large lens for a micro43 camera, but worth the price.

Ive been shooting video with m43 for 3 years now. I must say this is my favorite lens 85mm gives such a unique look. Pair that with the creamy bokeh and sharpness you get out of this lens, and youll get great looking image. Shooting mostly with a GH5s. The only feature I wish it had was being weather sealed. Rented both this lens and the Voigtlander 42.5 0.95…liked AF and handling of the Lumix but in the end the Voigtlander was the winner…All of us 43 owners relish that full frame look of extreme beautiful bokeh..the lumix comes close but the Voigtlander matches and exceeds the 1.8 full frame look…of couse this lens has manual focus but would buy this lens over and over again that is how good it is..But if you want to come close the Lumix is definitely no slouch…

Tack sharp, creamy bokeh, beautiful color renditions worth 5 stars. However the frustration is the a la Leica metal hood, and non locking A fstop position that will easily move when using the lens. The hood should have been a quality resilient plastic, with a twist bayonet reversible mount. Further insult, is the plastic ring in the shade with a bad glue that will ooze when exposed to natural heatwarmth The lock knob is just AWFUL.

Great lens.. NO Fantastic lens Fast in focus and light gathering, gorgeous bokeh, and SHARP However the shade being metal is plain AWFUL, particularly when you have new age plastics that will absorb shock and are more resilient. The metal transmits damage when placing down or accidentally hitting a wall or door frame. Furthermore, the lack of bayonet mount, wobble easy to lose and glue sweat is awful. A good target for engineering a shade is the Oly m.Zuiko 1240mm f2.8 PRO bayonet, metal mount ring and squeeze latch a la Leica 35mm Summicron, and PLASTIC front ideally Nylon, or carbon fiber for the Sunday photographers. Minor issue, but problematic, the A setting on the fstop ring setting does not lock down Gaffer to the rescue. Maybe Nocticron II with a good shade and a button lock on the A setting

I use the Leica DG Nocticron for stills and video. Its incredibly sharp, focuses fast, has effective image stabilization, creates creamy background blur and produces great color and contrast. This is an elite lens and it stacks up well against elite lenses in any format. The MFT system has some great lenses in this focal range but nothing else has the unique look this lens produces.

This Nocticron is absolutely stunning Lens at 1.2 maximum aperture it is perfect for low light situations giving a fast speed at a low ISO setting. Also it is made of durable and expensive materials under LEICA standards and that are well known for their quality for many decades. Great looking and feeling in your hands and has metal hood very durable which can be reversed and attached on the lens backwards for more protection during transportation. The Panasonic Leica DG Nocticron 42.5 is characterised by its fast and sophisticated optical design.

If you need the image stabilization in the lens, this is one of the best lenses you can use. NO, check that, it IS the best lens for that purpose. However, if you own an Olympus MFT camera with 5axis stabilization, you dont need this lens, just patience. Olympus is about to release the first of their lowlight f1.2 PRO lenses that will make this lens obsolete for Oly owners, at least in terms of cost. Patience, for sure…

Honestly one of the best lens I ever owned used. You may be hesitant with the price but the 1.2 f.stop really saves you in low lighting situations. The separation between your backdrop and focus subject is amazing. I do not recommend using this lens on a light mobile tripod for video because if the Fstop is completely open you will see the slightest jitters if tripod is not sturdy.

The MFT platform is what it is, a limited platform when it comes to DOF because of the sensor size. The 4045 mm range on MFT is effectively littered with goodtoexcellent lenses, not so much when you go wider or longer, so the competition is stiff. In its own right, this is a fantastic lens in any way. It is sharp, clean, no onion rings in the bokeh, colors are great, the manual focus action is smooth, the AF is reasonably good, I guess the OIS is fine too using it on an OMD the sensor stabilization is far superior to the inlens stabilization. Compared to the Oly 45mm, this has a better bokeh, it is sharp when shot wideopen even in the corners, the vignetting is acceptable, the colors are better.Paired with the excellent OVF on the OMD EM1, working with this lens is a pleasure. Stopped down a bit to F2 the vignetting goes away completely, the LoCA is reduced to a minimum, and it can be used for landscape stitched shots, as the distortion is minimal. What this lens is not It is not small, nor light It does not focus very close to the subject, so it is not a macro or a closeup lens. It is not an APO lens, so there will be some minimal LoCA the correction for that is outstanding.

I travel a lot, and I like to pack light. I ended up with only 3 lenses that I take with me, and this being the one of the 3, and also this is the one I use the most. It is not the lightest of the micro 43 but the image quality is great. It is a very fast lens, and you can shoot with low iso, and without flash in low light. I am using it with GH4. The lens can be even used as a macro lens, though the minimal focus distance is around 0.5m

I recently switched from Canon to the micro four thirds system, and this was my first prime for my new GX8. Photos with this combo have all been stunning. Its an extraordinarily fast lens, and the colors just pop. Yes, the lens is heavier and pricier than many lenses in this system. But wow, what a difference it makes. Highly recommended.

  69. blank

    jeb

I use this lens on the GH4 predominantly as a walkaround travel camera. I cannot say enough good things about this lens…its tacksharp, and even wideopen it produces crisp images without significant CA. I enjoy using it wideopen to obtain the shallow depth of field effect…in a microfour thirdssize sensor, to get this kind of shallow DOF is stunningly impressive. Its not light, but what you lose in weight, you gain in speed and optical quality. In all honesty, this lens rivals any prime Nikon or Ziess lens…and it better considering its price.I was hesitant to purchase, given the high price…but I took a leap of faith and was very pleasantly surprised. If it fits in your budget and you enjoy shooting in MFT format, I would strongly recommend this lens.

I have had it for a short time but so far I am extremely impressed with its performance. Using it on my GH3 for video, I find that it does a fantastic job of pulling focus for me. This is the sharpest MFT lens I own now. I really want Leica and Panasonic to make some wider lenses that work as well as this. I dont mind that its a little heavy. I am willing to carry it because it just looks so great.

  74. blank

This is the sharpest Lens in the Micro Four Thirds MFT lineup. Most people know that. What many dont know, is that its probably the fastest focusing lens of all the MFT lenses. Its also one of the fastest, and the fastest lens with the fastest auto focus. And it also has image stabilization. Its perfect It has a manual aperture ring, dedicated switch for manual versus auto focusI just leave it on because it works so well. The only thing not to like is the price. I bought mine as a display model and paid 1040 for it. Ive seen them sell for in the 900 range. If you see one for around 1000 buy and you will never look back. It will instantly become your favorite lens. Why should you not buy it There are many good lenses in this focal length that are almost as fast, much lighter, and these are all fine lenses, but they are not the best for sharpness, focus speed, and many do not include image stabilization. Bokeh is the word that is associated with this lens. Go to Amazon and see my review there for some pictures. It creates a more three dimensional feel than any other lens on any other focal length. Perhaps the 25mm f1.4 comes close. And I understand Olympus has come out with a 25mm f1.2. Neither of these has image stabilization. IF you need orespeed than this, the Voightlander Nocton manual focus lenses are f0.95. Finally, this lens makes women swoon and melt in your arms. You will have to carry a stick to beat them of. Final thoughts I have nearly every Panasonic Leica lens in the MFT, including the 45mm Leica Macrowhich I also like immensely. This Nocticron is still head and shoulder above the rest. I love it and want to be buried with it.

for the better part of the last three years I have salivated over this lens and red no less than 50 reviews about it and watched no less than three or four dozen YouTube videos about it as well. Finally ironed enough to pull the trigger. I had bought the voigtlander lens first because it was slightly Cheaper by a few hundred dollars. Although that is a great lens I knew that I would need this lens for some of my photography needs where auto focus was needed. I sold the voigtlander and then pulled the trigger on this lens. No matter how many times I had read what is the top lens for the micro 43 system this lens is always number one and now I understand why. It is the game changer that everyone says it is. Everything is incredible. from being able to shoot handheld stabilize video on my gh5 but also just having the g85 on my hip as a second camera with this lens on it I have the power of incredible photos and video clips at everything I shoot. It is by far the best lens investment I have made for as long as I have had this system. If youre wondering if you should pull the trigger trust me it is everything its supposed to be and more. My only wish is that the Panasonic folks would develop a similar 17.5 1.2 lens to match it. Then life would be perfect. Happy shopping

Rented this lens on several occasions for several video projects and fell in love with it. Dreamed of owning it. The sharpness the, the background seperatiion are indescribable. When I saw it on sale on BHs website recently I had to have it. Dream come true and an investment in Leica glass. You wont be disappointed

Fast glass, sharp and solid build. Not clickless, but aperture controlled in my camera at least for quiet adjustments.

Although it is expensive, it really feels great, silky smooth operation and the optics are stunning. Probably the sharpest lens I own in my Lumix system. Really deep reversible hood. It is great to see commitment from Lumix Leica to create extraordinary lenses for Micro43 format.

I primarily use my M43 camera for vacation trips but this lens may force me to use it more for portraits. The focus is quick and precise with fantastic bokeh. I am used to using a full frame camera for my portraits but decided to see how this lens did with one of my poses. It is sharp and made the weeds behind them blend into a beautiful background. I highly recommend this lens.

Compared to FF or ASPC m43 has a rep its not as good in lowlight. With modern software like Topaz you can eliminate most of this noise in post. Having said that this lens lets you keep the ISO low enough in lowlight that you dont experience this much noise. Photos indoors under natural light handheld without a tripod are possible with this lens. Itll be perfect for my next project, cathedrals in Italy.

I found myself in need of a very fast lens for low light photography with my Panasonic G9. My everyday carry lens had been an Olympus 1240mm F2.8, but after attaching the Nocticron the 1240mm has remained in the bag. This lens renders clear, sharp, natural colored images and fulfills its low light promise. It is costly but worth the price if you require a very fast lens.As an aside, I find that this 85mm FF equivalent lens works well for street photography to the extent that I have been using a Leica SL 75mm F2 lens on my Panasonic S1R for the same purpose and no longer employ the 50mm focal length for street.

A real workhorse in my productions. It rarely comes off the GH4 body. Great bokeh and a nice focal length of around 90mm on the GH4 in 4K mode. Super sharp between f2.2 and f8. Nice and creamy at f1.2 f2. It does fringe in high contrast areas if wide open, but doesnt seem to be too distracting in video mode and it is fixable in post with stills quite easily. Solid metal build too.

This lens is solid and robust, and I love that it has the traditional leaf shutter that is so rarely found on digital lenses, and the optical quality is superb. I use this lens with my Pan Lumix GX7 and GH3, so I gain its full functionality. I initially hesitated about investing in it as Im building my portrait business from scratch at the moment so it is important for me to get as much bang as possible for my buck. Im extremely glad I did as it creates superb shallow dof portraits with wonderful buttery bokeh, and has provided me with far more options using natural light without raising the iso to the point where noise becomes noticeable. This is my goto lens for portraits, alongside the Panasonic 25mm f1.4 Leica DG Summilux Aspherical Lens for for full body shots.

Ive used this lens for as long as I can remember. It provides such a clear image and its really big so there is no need to zoom in. It met my expectations of being one of the best out there and Although it is expensive its one the best Buys

Its true that leica optics are remarkably different in quality than others. This is obvious on the Nocticron lens that LEICA has done for the micro 43 system . I just love this lens it offers me the chance not to use flash even at night photography with its wideopen 1.2. Actually i decided to enter the micro 43system after i saw this lens . Its outstanding in every respect.

Im a novice that purchased a GH4 and this lens from BH 2 weeks ago. I bought it for my stepdaughters wedding this past weekend in beautiful northern Minnesota. Wow. Just, wow. Crisp, FAST focus, lightweight, not in your face this thing does all the work for a newbie photographer.

Id like to address this to people like me who started out poor and are in better circumstances. I know all about compromising. I did it constantly for years. The law of diminishing returns is a real and inescapable thing. But after having exposed maybe four images with this lens I can tell you its astonishingly good and if youre a professional or committed amateur who can afford it just for Gods sake get it. There are pretty good alternativesfrom Panny and Olympus both, and Im sure othersbut this is quite simply the best lens Ive ever used and Ive used scores of them. Wideopen sharpness, bokeh, contrast, its all there. If you need or want the best portraitlength lens for the system, just for Christs sake buy it. You wont regret it.

Great sharp lens…even wide open…very good build quality…metal….tiny compared to my canon 85mm f1.2

Excellent lowlight capacity. Works well to complement the Voigtlnder 17.5mm f0.95 on the Lumix G6. I use this quasijournalistically in available light for portraits and twoshots. So far nothing negative to say. The lens is sharp and contrasty and well worth the rather high price.
