So far happy with the lens. Quality seems amazing. Auto focus on a7iii seems fast and I dont see any bad color fringing Im happy with the value of this lens.
andrew –
Great lens, super sharp and solidly built. Another great addition is that you can lock the lens while not using it to prevent lens creep. Superb and half the price of the Sony.
Nick –
What can I say, Ive been super impressed with what Sigma has created. The lens has a quality feel to it. The images are sharp and the autofocus works flawlessly.
Travis –
I was super excited for this lens and used it for two family photo sessions and when i went to do some long exposure photos dust kept showing up in the photos. Well there is already two large pieces of dust in the element. Not sure if I just happened to get a lemon of the a lens but Im waiting to hear back from Sigma at this time.
Adam –
I had a Sony 2470mm 2.8 GM lens and I found it to be soft compared other lenses. The autofocus ability of this lens on my Sony A7iii is great whether in photo or video mode. The sharpness and clarity of this lens is amazing and the build quality and lens hood is better than the Sony version and at half the price. The Sigma Art line really does make great lenses.
Jesse –
Incredible image quality and very nicely built. AF on the a7s III is great though it has a harder time holding focus at extreme close focus. If it detects an eye or face in the shot its rock solid holding them sharp. Seems to be equal to the Sony 2470 GM other than that one point, but the Sony doesnt let you get as close as this does at minimum. Probably the best value in all around short zooms for Sony would definitely recommend it
John –
Bought this primarily for video on my Sony A6600, A7siii and FX6 cameras. The lens has a a good utilitarian range, is very sharp and has great autofocus capabilities.
mygor18 –
Fantastic lens Solid build quality and butter smooth focus ring. The additional items are a nice bonus for an already great valueforperformance lens.
SAMUEL –
Phenomenal lens. I owned the G Master 2470 f2.8 for over a year and this lens is just as capable in every sense. The only area that this falls short would be SLIGHTLY less accurate autofocus. I dont do video so it doesnt affect me. In terms of image quality, this lens is just as sharp as the G Master at half the price.
Stephanie –
Its a very great lens. Perfect for both video and photography. Feels as good as the GMaster and its way cheaper.
Edgar –
This is an amazing lens for a great price. The bokeh is amazing on this lens with a pretty fast aperture. This lens is built with quality and I would recommend it to anyone
Christopher –
Just beginning to use this lens. I appreciate the clarity and ease of use with my Sony A1. Its a bit larger than I expected but fairly light and easy to attachdetach. Personally, I found the balance of the lens to be a bit better than the Sony GM version.
Christopher –
The Sigma 2470 f2.8 DG DN is the workhouse of the photography world. This lens is great for your wide angle landscape shots, portraits, and everything in between. The wide aperture is great for low light shotsgreat for those low light wedding venues and is sharp corner to corner. Weight is manageable as it is lighter than the Sony GM version, and outperforms it in performance and sharpness. It is weather sealed and gives you everything you could ask for at half the price of the Sony GM. You will NOT be disappointed.
Geoffrey –
The 24 70 soon rotation on the Sigma is opposite the zoom action on the Sonys native glass. When I use the lens for indoor sports, it always takes me a bit to remember this, especially when Im using a Sony on one camera and a Sigma on another and switching back and forth. Its the only irritation in an otherwise very, very good lens.
Jennifer –
2470 has been on my radar for awhile. I run a solidly busy portrait business and have been using two Sony bodies and a 35 and 50 for most of my indoor work. Switching to the 2470 has improved my session speed and workflow and the images from the ART are nearly flawless. I spent some time reading and watching reviews comparing the ART to the GMaster and really could not justify an extra 1,000 on the Sony version. The Sigma is sharp as a tack. This is my 4th ART lens for the Sony and Ive been extremely happy with the performance of all of them.
SCOTT –
Beautiful lens and super sharp glass, but it was heavier than I anticipated. My photography often occurs while I hike and budgeting weight factors high in my valuation of a lens. Overall, not a great fit for me and my style, but man is it a great lens. I really wish I could have found a reason to keep it
Thomas –
First off I would like to say that the image quality is superb, and the af is reliable. I shoot weddings and events and this lens is one of my main zooms at the moment. I have only taken this lens on about 10 shoots before I started to notice dust in the front element. This doesnt really bother me that much, even though this lens is dust resistant. But on the last shoot I did the lens collected a very big dust particle behind the rear element. That is a problem because when stopping down to f811, it becomes visible as a dark smudge. This lens is amazing, but if I have to send it in to be cleaned multiple times a year, then it is simply not worth it. This lens is not dust resistant at all. Please beware.
Scott –
Really nice lens for the moneyWorks great with the auto focus trackingNice color renditionSharp with pleasant bokeh
Matthew –
I know why a lot of you are here reading reviews of this lens you are torn between the Gmaster or Sigma. Let me save you a lot of time. For over 1000 less, the Sigma is a fantastic value with solid buildquality and outstanding optics. The 2470 focal range is a nobrainer its extremely versatile, providing excellent wide to medium creative flexibility. Shoot at portraits at 70mm f2.8 for nice subject isolation and bokeh, or shoot landscapes at f5.6 24mm. It does both extremely well. Focusing is quick enough for me not shooting action sports or racing here, and focus accuracy has been good.My only complaint is that when importing raw files to photoshop, the software doesnt automatically detect the lens details in the lens corrections settings perhaps a failure of photoshop, idk.Either way stop hesitating. Save yourself a bunch of money and get this awesome lens
Aaron –
If your looking to save money on a lens compared the Sonys very own 2470mm. It offers I would say 95 of what it the Sony does for half the price That extra 5 isnt worth the extra. AutoFocus and Sharpness are both on point with this lens and you have a closer focal distance compared to the Sony.Def worth it
jacob –
So far this lens has been great to use. Ive had no issues everything works beautifuly when used with the A7iii. I had the tamron 2875 decided to sell it purchase this. Too keep this short sweet, the Sigma seems to do everything just a little bit better. If you pixel peep you really wont notice the difference, but the sigma has better sharpness on the edges of the frame. Its nice having the 24mm at the wide end I personally like the little extra weight the Sigma brings, which is the only reason i think some people may stick with the Tamron.
Jenny –
As an owner of Sony Alpha Series cameras A7III, A7SIII and someone who has worked in photography for 10 years now, I can highly recommend this lens to anyone looking for something from video to portraits. The 1635 GM is a top contender for best all around but this lens, at this price point and focal length, I think takes the cake. Fast AF, well built body, AF lock. This lens is a beast. My one criticism of the lens is the rubbery focus wheel and plasticy feel. But no other complaints than that. I recommend this lens to anyone who is searching for something to put on their camera and not worry about changing out too much. I shoot weddings, cars, portraits, products and real estate with this lens mostly. The price being half the GM Sony lens this is an absolute must buy
Louis –
Image quality is just superb for the price despite this is not a cheap lens. Its a great scout or if you dont have time to compose a shot and need to act fast this is the ticket.Weather sealing is excellent Ive taken this on couple of rain shoots and its still perfect.Cons Weight. If you consider this tank youll love it but its heavy. Start lifting. Youll need to I had it on my CF Tripod and hiked for about 4 miles because my strap is missing. Lets just say Im ripped now. There are no other cons to this lens other than the weight. Once youre used to that… This lens will not leave the body unless you want more reach.
airplug –
I love it, everything about it is amazing, sharpness built quality, the only thing I dont like that much is that 24mm it has a weird distortion
Robert –
This is one purchase I am so glad I made. This versatile telephoto is tact sharp, fast focusing, and will stay on my camera body 90 of the time.
Michael –
After a long decision months to buy the Sony A7iii Mirrorless Camera, I decided to purchase this as my first lens. I will have to admit, at first there was some frustration as a new photographer, but I learned it was more my skills rather than this lens itself.I snapped a few good landscape shots, macro images, as well as some wildlife which this is not the lens for this type of shooting. As a beginner, I would recommend this as a first lens rather than going with a substandard kit lens. However, keep in mind, there will be a learning curve and you will need to be patient with it to get used to how you want to use it for your unique situations.Overall, I am pretty happy with this particular Sigma lens as a 3rd party lens. Unfortunately, I dont have a Sony G lens to compare it to, but I am learning to be quite satisfied with it.
CARL J –
This lens build quality is superior, with that said it is rather heavy. I have taken it out in well below zero temperatures and it preformed without a hitch. The image quality paired with my a7riii is fantastic. The auto focus is quick, quiet and accurate. The rings for zoom and focus are very smooth and easy to use. I would recommend this product to anyone considering the 2470 focal range. Its a big savings over the Sony G Master equivalent.
Joshua –
I cant say enough good things about this lens. I use it for photography and videography, and it has never disappointed. So often after reviewing the results I will let out an Ugh in disgust because this lens is just that pretty. Love love love it. Cannot recommend enough.
Sophorn –
To keep it simple, both lens produce amazing results and with that in mind the decision comes down to the users preferences and budget. For me personally I got the Sigma for these main reasons1 Build Quality while it is a bit on the heavier side, I dont mind it and it gives me more confidence with its durability.2 Focus and Zoom Placement As oppose to the Tamron 2875mm, I highly prefer my zoom ring being in the back and my focus ring in the front of my lens.3 Focus AutoManual Switch Having this feature eliminates time toggling back and forth just to set it through my camera. One hand is already on the body to adjust exposure, while I have the other holding up the lens , so for me to have this feature just feels more practical.4 Focal Length IMO theres a HUGE difference between 28mm to 24mm. Theres time where Ive had to shoot in some tight spaces and having the extra 4mm would have been all I needed. In conclusion, my preferences are pretty much the key differences from the Tamron 2875mm. The price differ isnt as crazy but I think its worth the extra money for the extra features in the Sigma. If all the above doesnt fit for what youre looking for then the decision between the two should be easy, vice versa.IF youre still undecided I highly recommend renting before fully investing.Hope this review helps
Cassidy –
I wanted to upgrade my kit 2870mm and be able to use a wider aperture. This lens is the perfect balance of price and quality The autofocus in video is perfectly silent and catches quickly with no hunting, that Ive seen so far. Only issue is that its quite a bit larger and heavier than I was expecting, which really isnt that big of a problem. Definitely consider this lens.
TED –
Wonderful on Leica SL. Fast autofocus and tack sharp. I couldnt go all the way for the Leica 2490. For the same price and admittedly a little less image quality I can get this and a 100400 and a prime. Sigma really rounds out the LMount alliance.
Brian –
This lens is fantastic Its very, very sharp, feels good in the hands, feels well made, and is absolutely worth it for the price. 1010 would recommend
Tiffany –
This will be my goto lens for a long time. Image quality is amazing. Beautiful creamy bokeh. Focus is fast animal eye af is on point. To be honest I thought I was going to constantly be thinking about the weight of this lens seeing others reviews, but its really not that bad at all and I got used to it fairly quickly. Im 115lbs and I do a lot of hiking with this lens. Its worth the little bit of extra weight from the Tamron when you see the amazing quality it puts out.
Matthew –
This is a fantastic lens and not just for the price. There is no compromise with this lens if youre torn between the native Sony lens vs the sigma. This is a set it and forget it lens very sharp, crisp images. Focuses quickly. It feels balanced on the Sony a7riii. Cant say enough good things about it.
bsneen73 –
This Is an amazing lens And I had half the cost Of the Panasonic version It blows it out of the water. This is the perfect Daily driver lens . Its got the optimal focal length so you can go wide And zoom in a little bit when needed.
Eric –
Very neutral colors and excellent sharpness. I use it for my FS7 and will soon use it on FX6. It also breathes minimally which is great for video work.
Ronald –
knowing that sigma is an amazing brand. I had the opportunity to try one of their lenses and for the quality price that it brings me, I was superlatively surprised by its sharpness, blur and focus speed. If you ask me if I recommend this lens, my answer is 100 for anyone who wants to get their hands on a powerful lens with the quality of one of the greats of the brand.
Hannah –
I love the quality of this lens. Portraits look great and so does the night sky A little large though. The lock on the lens doesnt seem to hold itself very well, but well enough to not adjust in your bag.
Zachariah –
Versatile the weight is an adjustment…. the focus button is a nice touch. Nicely built weatherproof solid lens must have for your collection
Eric –
As a Nikkor lens user for 40 years, I will compare with this reference Better apparent quality, solid feel, exceptional sharpness at all focal lengths. AF is spot on. Cameras Leica SL2, Sigma fp.
Brandon –
An amazing lens that is now basically glued to my camera, everything is sharp and has all the right focal lengths i need, however after having it for about 2 weeks i noticed there were dust inside the lens, it doesnt effect the quality too much, but im worried about over time if more dust will get in there. all in all its an amazing lens for a fraction of sonys Gmaster
Peter –
In line with my expectations, this lens delivers superbly sharp images with minimal chromatic aberration through the entire range of aperture sizes. This lens is incredibly versatile I can use it in a wide range of applications from portrait, still life, event, to even some wildlife photography. The autofocus is good. Its not superb or the best, but I really only notice the shortcomings when comparing to a G Master lens, which, being developed by Sony, you would expect to be quicker. But dont get me wrong this lens is still very fast. Especially in still photos, depending on the focus area you use, you can maintain a very high keeper rate using autofocus. For video, its decent enough to get the job done though for my specific application of narrative film work, manual focus follow focus works a bit better. Im using a Sony A7SIIOn my most recent job, I was really impressed with how well this lens handled shooting against a backlight. It maintains its sharpness and clarity, giving you high contrast, punchy images with little to no chromatic aberration or flaring. The build quality is also excellent and I anticipate having this lens for years to come. Could not recommend it highly enough.
Jacob –
If your a photographer, looking for a workhorse lens then this is absolutely for you. Its tack sharp without looking too digital, handles highlight roll off flawlessly with impeccable color rendition across all focal lengths.Where the lens falls a bit short however is its auto focus capabilities, while still useable in most high light situations it really begins to get wonky when your not in the sun. As a professional videographer I would not feel comfortable using this lens for anything with crazy motion unless I had a focus puller.
budur –
At f8 or even at f11 its giving the same DOF as at f2.8 which should NOT be happening. The AFL button also seems to be doing absolutely nothing.
Jason –
Looks incredible. It drained my wallet but holy s. The comparable Sony was twice as expensive and Im sure its better in some regard, but holy s, who are the people can afford that s. Sony is marginally better for twice the price. Im extremely happy with this purchase. Photos are sharp. With basic lighting I made images that are cinematic Incredible. Great color and auto focus.
Ahmed –
The Sigma 2470mm f2.8 DG DN Art is a must have for Sony shooters. It takes amazing photos and video and is as sharp as the G master at half the cost. The build quality is excellent and you get the all the features you would get in a native lens such as AFMF switch, Zoom Lock Switch and an AEL button which can be customized. The lens comes with a hood and it is a lot nicer than hoods Ive used in the past. Its labeled with the lens it goes to, has the directions to turn to twist onoff and it has a button that you must press to remove it. My only grip is that the material on the mount portion has a rubberized coating and collects a lot of dust. The lens is heavy so I highly recommend using it with a clutch strap or a neck strap.
Anonymous –
I absolutely love this lens. I used to own the Sony GM version, but this lens performs just as well if not better in some areas. The focus is fast and image quality is super I definitely recommend this lens over the GM.
Per –
This lens is surprisingly good for a third party lens. Image quality is excellent while build quality is good.
Philip –
This has been a great lens and is very sharp and the autofocus is perfect. Only issue is some dust has crept behind the front element. Personally, if I was to decide on purchasing this lens over the GM again, I would choose the GM. I recently purchased Sony GM 70200 f2.8 and am completely blown away by the image quality. The sigma 2470 art lens is a superb lens and at present is 899 which is great value for money, but I would still pay more and get the GM.
Lawrence –
You can not go wrong with this lens. If you buy the Sony lens, it is only for the name. The Sony may have stabilization built into the lens, but you really do not need it since it is already in the camera. Plus this lens us lighter and a bit smaller. Unless you are tight on money, this is probably a better bet than the Tamron in this range although if you are really weight and money conscious it might be a good choice. I own the Tamron 70180 which I really like. I do miss that the lens doesnt have a focus lock on the lens, but for the price and low weight, made it an easy choice.
Jerome –
I rated it 5 because once you include the price its a no brainer.Pros Center sharp at f2.8. Youll need to stop down to get those edges tack. Not a big deal if you crop. Build quality is very good. It has a barrel lock. It does unlock once you move the barrel. I only see the lock needed once the lens is really broken in. As of new I couldnt get the lens to creep pointing down and shaking it. The custom button is rubber. I like this better than Sonys. Its easier to feel for. Weight and size are good when comparing it to other pro 2470s. Its a tad lighter than Sonys. The Tamron is smaller and a lot lighter though. If youre just looking to take something on vacation id consider looking into that lens. It you want build quilly get the Sigma. AF is pretty good in most settings.Cons Barrel distortion and vignetting at 24mm is not that great. The good news is that can be corrected in post. If youre using the older lightroom classic youre not going to have the correct profile. I did find the older Sigma 2470 DG OS HSM profile did a good job at most corrections. The Sigma 2470 IF EX DG profile does a little better at the distortion but less on vignetting. You can also do them manually. The lens cap feels pretty cheap. Ive owned the 1835 f1.8 art and it was better quality. Animal Eye AF struggled on this lens compared to my 24mm G and 1635mm G. This might change with updates. Not a good sun star landscape lens. Stopped down youll get a star but the trails are not that long and they become even smaller at 70mm.Over all you cant beat what this lens has to offer for the price. I was well aware of the issues by other reviews but in hand they are not that bad and in most cases dont matter at all.
Parth –
The lens has a very rich construction, Image quality is very impressive its sharp very minimal chromatic abberation. Auto focus is decent in low light situations but performs really good in well lit surroundings.
Milan –
Sharp. Zoom and focus ring feel good. Great lens to have in your kit. Its my number 1 lens right now.
Alexander –
I was looking for a general purpose lens for travel. Im glad Sigma addressed the dust issue. I tried it out instore. And I will say that it was well worth the wait. Great lens for everyday use.
andas8dfbth –
Really excellent IQ, no significant weaknesses there. Ex color and general image rendition in addition to being sharp as I would ever need and then some. Nothing out there is or can be much better than this lens.
Louis –
I have only owned this lens a short period of time, so I am not sure how it will perform in all locations. I am VERY impressed with the clarity and build of this lens. I am a recent convert from Canon to Sony, so I dont know how it compares to Sony lenses. However, I feel it is every bit as good as the Canon L lens I have used. Bottom line is that this is a wonderful lens and you will not regret buying one.
Jeffrey –
Im relatively an ametuer, but this lens is miles beyond what Ive used in the past. Its incredibly sharp, super fast AF, and just smooth in every way. The constant f2.8 is a dream and well worth the extra money over a variable aperture zoom. This and a similar 70200 could be the only lenses you need to carry.
Anonymous –
Please read this before you buy it I am not a guy who usually writes a review under the product. I have to admit that this sigma lens is very sharp and I like its color. However, as a dustresistant lens in 2020, I found some dust sneak inside my lens. I bought this Sigma 2470 f2.8 dg dn E mount from BH on Feb 15th, 2020 and it arrived on March 9th. I barely used my lens due to the virus and I used it mostly indoor. Now, after a month, Im stuck with not being able to return items to BH and having all the repair shop closed. So think about it before you buy this.
Jose –
Ive used this lens for a few weeks now and it has quickly become my favorite. The lens is a bit on the heavier side, but the high quality of the shots have made this slight drawback worth it. Being able to shoot at a variable range of 2470mm makes for great versatile lens able to capture significant amounts of area for landscapes, achieve great subject separation at f2.8 for portraits and commercial photography, as well as some amount of zoom range that might be too close for longer telephoto lenses. Autofocus is sufficiently fast that one can work with it without much trouble and the manual setup is smooth. The design is sleek and feels nice to the touch and the resulting images are of great quality.
Lezanne –
Im pretty darned impressed with this lens. It is fast, lighter and meets my requirements perfectly. It feels like Sigma is finally playing with the big kids. The 2470 is lighter than the Leica L 50mm that I also have. And also lighter than the comparable Leica 2490mm at a literal FRACTION of the cost. So, so happy
Justin –
I really liked this lens for the 48 hours after purchase until I noticed dust that appeared to be under the front element. Ive had the lens serviced and cleaned by a SIGMA authorized service center. They cleaned the inside of the lens and after using it again lightly for 1 day this past weekend, it is already filled back up with dust behind the front element.None of my other lenses have this problem and after only using this on a few shoots it has more dust inside of the lens than my other lenses do after hundreds of shoots. Very dissapointing.
gary –
I have Shot Nikon for years…and years. I flipped to a Sony A7R IV and recked my brain on a 2470 lens for it which is my work horse. I tested a lot of them and this Art lens just had me. Its build quality is super nice and the images coming out of this thing might be the sharpest I have ever used. Its got a good weight to it but not too heavy and feels like it should. I looked at Tamron and Sony but for me there was only one competitor but at less than half the price with better image quality there was not much of a choice here. I mean these images are crazy sharp with limited distortion and great color reproduction. I can afford a Sony, but I buy on quality and value scale and this tipped it for me. If sony was a landslide I would have bought it for sure but ai just could not get there. Sigma art might be my favorite lens in my bag.
Michael –
Like you I read a lot of reviews before choosing this lens. Its really quite amazing value at less than half the price of the Sony equivalent. Was really impressed with the feel and operation of the lens, albeit somewhat on the heavy and bulky side. I guarantee you will be impressed with the results this lens delivers, its worth the effort of carrying it round when you see the gorgeous images it captures.
heath –
Look out for the DN lenses from Sigma they are MADE for mirrorless rather than adapted for mirrorless from their bigger brothers. It is sharp, autofocus is great and it is relatively compact. Love it.
Jeffrey –
This is my primary, most used lens on my A7R. Very versatile and sharp at all focal lengths apertures. Well worth the price and good value for such quality. Its difficult to do better than a Sigma Art lens especially at this price.
Abdul –
I love the quality. I would wish that the zoom ring was swapped with the focus one. Also the lens is a bit on the heavy side and the ring movement requires some force. But that was expected. The lens hood is amazing and the picture quality is excellent. I used it with Sony a7c.
Robert –
I use this lens more than any other lens in my camera bag. Super sharp and quick focusing. Buy it and you wont be disappointed
Nikki –
Completely worth getting this for both the quality and versatility that comes with this lens The only reason Im giving it 4 stars is because the packaging for this was awful, the lens was just in its sigma lens case within its sigma box and had the dingy plastic bag with the postage info. I was honestly scared that the lens would be broken with how awful of packaging it had
Gary –
This lens is SHARP at both 24mm and 70mm. I have rented the sony alternative and I have no urge to go back. It is cheaper and gives my images a sharper look. An overall MUST HAVE in your kit.
Sunny –
Love this lens and it really shines in low light. Coming from f4, this is a huge difference in ISO performance. It has a different look than native sony glass. I think its more sparkly which can maybe be attributed to the sharpness of the lens. At 24mm you will get a vignette on the corners that goes away around 27mm. If you shoot at 2×3 like I do, I usually end up cropping away the ends anyways. I think this is a fantastic lens but its a big lens. I can see people struggling carrying this around all day. The 82mm front end is enormous and I imagine it sucking up light from around the room. I think you get tremendous value from this lens and its worth jumping up from the Tamron. You will keep this lens as you evolve your camera bodies thru the year.
Peter –
For anyone curious about the Sigma 2470mm f2.8 DG DN Art lens. I think its amazing I bought it for Leica SL2 but I have no doubt it will meet your expectations for other camera brands. All my lens are M primes. Not weather resistant. Felt I needed one zoom, weather sealed and I chose the Sigma 2470mm f2.8 DG DN Art. It arrived a few days ago. I took it out the next morning. Took a few sample shots to see how it performed. Two are when I tried to get as close as my poor legs would let me. The closeup pics was taken at about 20cm from the subject at 70mm. Regardless of my aperture, the depth of field is measured in milimeters. The bokeh differences were noticeable. One photo was of a woody scene with a slightly frozen pond. However, I had to reduce the size of the Woodland photo from 8216 5483 to 41006144 to accommodate BH uploading. Merely a pic to show the Sigma 2470mm f2.8 DG DN Art Lens ability for this type of scene.NO IMAGE ADJUSTMENTS of any kind were made to these 3 sample pics. They are SOOC DNG and only converted to JPG with SL2s native resolution of 8216 5483 and one at 41006144 in Capture One Pro 21. Hopefully BH allows for full resolution display for these three images so you can zoom in.For anyone who is curious about this lens or are thinking of adding a 2470mm to their kit, this is a very good choice.
Gabriel –
Very happy with the results. Did some testing and its an impressively sharp lens and outperform 2470 gm in many aspects. I have my a7r4 with 60MP and this lens can handle it easily
david –
Dust keeps getting under the front element of this lens. Its impossible to clean without voiding warranty. I already sent it back to Sigma once, had to pay 50 shipping and insurance and after getting it back and going out on one shoot there is already dust inside of the lens again. Its a shame because the image quality would be A otherwise
hec6875dltrjy2s1t –
I shoot sports photography, a lot of volleyball tourneys in sometimes not very well lit gyms. The sigma 2.8 helps alleviate that. Proving some very crisp pictures the zoom range allows for shooting in small gyms as well. Very versatile lens especially for almost half the cost of the Sony equivalent
Robert –
This lens has been an excellent option for my Sony A7RIV. Sigma has done a great job of having their lenses communicate withe the Sony cameras. Colors, sharpness and contrast have been been excellent. Focusing has been fast and accurate.
duke –
This lens is so so sharp. The results are astounding and imo the images are near in sharpness to the Zeiss 55. The only reason to keep the 55 now is for its compact size. Sigma hit a grand slam home run with this lens.
Marcus –
ProsThe build quality is fantasticSharpness with the A7R III is superbBokeh is wonderful wide open 2.8Videos shot with it look greatConsLarge front element 82mm so filters are expensiveNeutralThe sun produces stars even wide openThis is a large lens, but IMO it feels at home on the R IIIIn closing, this is the best allaround lens Ive owned.
Peter –
All of my lenses are Mmount for my Leica SL2. Of course, none are weatherproof. I felt I needed a midrange zoom for the winter element with out having to change lenses. Also, I wanted a lens to have a close focussing range without having to get a macro lens.Researched and decided on this lens. Works wonderfully on my SL2 and the 18cm closest focussing distance at 70mm is great. The day after I got it, I took it out to get a few sample shots. Found it very sharp at all focal lengths. Im uploading a yellow leaf photo taken at f5.6 at a distance of about 20cm. Also, Im leaving it at my SL2s native resolution of 8216 5483 so perhaps you can zoom in and see the closeup quality of this lens.Im very pleased
ARTHUR –
Excellent build quality, smooth operation, convenient switch positions, and quality sharpness with accurate color contrasts. Totally worth the wait in getting this lens thats designed for mirrorless. Though you may need to collect a new set of filters in 82mm.
Jessica –
So far I am happy with this lens and have no complaints with its function or clarity. Used for landscape photography in the field.
Ross –
Loving this lens Super versatile and sharp. Its definitely not light but I dont find it uncomfortably heavy. Autofocus and bokeh are both very nice as well.
Nick –
Fantastic lens but it has a dust problem. Ive only used it a handful of times but theres already dust behind the front element. I even have a front filter on it so theres even less of a reason dust should be sneaking in. I understand that dust will get into almost any lens regardless especially zooms and that it doesnt affect image quality but it is a bit frustrating that Sigma highlights slash and dust resistance as a feature yet this lens has the most dust out of any of the lenses I own and its only been a couple months.
Charles –
Got this for shooting photos of the family for thanksgiving. Id say Im a decent photographer, but not a pro. My sister said that the photos taken of her and her new fianc are better than the engagement shoot that they just did Shots with the lens were always crisp with an amazing depth of field. If you are thinking of getting this, do it
qizhang168 –
The Sigma 2470mm f2.8 DG Art Lens is of very high building quality and gives very sharp image. Its sharpness and features are as good as if not better than the Sony 2470mm f2.8 G Master. I am particularly fond of the lock switch. It is very handy, just need a twist to unlock it.
Sean –
If you have been on the fence, stop. Just stop it. Look at yourself What are you doing This is nonsense. The quality you get out of this lens is second to none and is 12 the price of the g master. Plus, the resale on this lens is upwards of 90 so you have no issues if you got caught in a pinch needed to sell.I use this for both photography and video and it looks great for both. Stop waiting and just buy this lens. Or dont, and sit lie in your bed at night staring at the ceiling wondering why you cant pull the trigger.
GUNNAR –
I purchased this lens for my first wedding film. I was in search of something versatile with fantastic image quality. This lens performed beautifully. It balanced easily on a gimbal. I didnt take it off my camera the whole day.
Didimio –
This great lens compete with the most expensive Sony 2470 G master, but at 1,000.00 less money. The build quality and the performance is extraordinary. Very sharp, stunning colors and remarkable auto focus. I love this lens.
Andrew –
Great value. Superb build and image quality. Not too heavy. If only it was a little longer maybe 2490…
Oscar –
Im not a professional, only a hobbyist. Ive been very impressed by its performance, not quite at the level of a prime lens but very close. I havent owned a zoom lens this sharp. I mainly shoot my family as well as product photography for my business. The close focusing distance makes this lens even more versatile than expected, its almost a macro lens. It is very quick to focus however, I have noticed it misses often. Im hoping a firmware update will fix this. It is a heavy lens, the weight struck me as a big negative and it took some days to get used to, now I no longer mind it. The weight is a good trade off for the high build quality. The distortion is very noticeable especially on the wide end, however its easily corrected in post now that editing software includes this lens as an option under profile correction. I highly recommend this lens, you will not be disappointed.
John –
This is a perfect walkaround lens for me. The thing that sticks out most to me is the color performance. That is, my photos hardly need any post edits for color correction, etc. Well worth the purchaseNote I use a SonyA7Riv with this lens.
Andrew –
I used to have the 2470mm GM but with the Sigma, it is half the price, half the weight and still amazing image quality. I prefer this lens of the GM and I recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about it.
Zac –
Bought this for a video setup for our church recordings. Camera is a6100 probably 60 away. Camera is extremely sharp and bright even at 70mm and is working very well.
Juan –
I waited months for this lens to go back in stock and absolutely worth the wait. Photos are coming out great and video quality is super clean. The lens is definitely heavy but beautifully designed.
Cyryl –
I had been using this lens for the last 30 days for product photography. I am overall happy with it, but fringing is very noticeable when photographing white and offwhite object photos attached. I will keep it as it costs 50 less than Sony lens, and this issue can be easily corrected in Photoshop. Anyways, I though I will mention this, as other reviewers do not. I own three Sigma prime lenses 19mm, 30mm, and 60mm, and fringing has not been an issue with them.
Brett –
Its sturdy and the focus and zoom rings are smooth. When fully zoomed out, there is some fisheyeing happening around the edges of the screen, which makes it not the best for Real Estate, but I suppose if I get the wider lens from Sigma, this will mostly disappear. For videos, its a great blend and has a nice fstop. Its my first lens for the Sony A7S3 and it works great for what I need it to do right now.
Reza –
I bought it 4 months ago and forced myself to stick with it for the whole time. Its a great generalpurpose lens with a good range of wide and telephoto focal points. Its fast and the focus is pretty nice but. Its a bit heavy but I dont mind it.The only downside so far is the dust that I see inside the lens. I do street photography but this is a weathersealed lens so I didnt expect to see dust inside the lens. But again, Ive shooting outdoor in heavy rain, snow, wind, dust and etc and this lens hast failed me yet
Matt –
Nice lens with a decent image and good build feel, but dust behind the front glass come on Sigma.
Andrew –
This lens is definitely lighter and smaller than DSLR version of Canon or Nikon, and Sigma has been up with the quality for their Art series. This lens is no exception the center is supersharp, and bokeh is creamysmooth. The sharpness on the edge of images arent bad either. I think we finally got a very affordable competitor for Sony 2470 GM.
Reinis –
This lens great, image and sharpness is fantastic, feels very nice in the hand BUT although it is advertised as weather sealed, its not. I was shooting in a windy desert for 5 minutes and that was enough to destroy it completely, i got sand underneath the focus ring, zoom ring, the barrel and even inside the lens underneath the front glass element, took it to service and luckily they screwed it up even more so i got a new one, but yeah….knowing this i wouldnt buy it again. Check out OpticalWander on youtube, he has the same issue so its not just me
CHANG –
I love this lens, well built, great image quality, versatile for indoor and outdoor. But, dust is there, and it has only been 1 year since my purchase I did send it back to sigma to clean out the dust once, so its more like halfyear worth of dust. Nothing big so far but might need a replacement after 3 years.
Marcos –
Recently purchased this lens and cant be happier with it. I was looking for a more versatile lens for filming and photography and this lens has it all. Whether you are looking for portrait or landscape photography the detail in each image is phenomenal. Highly recommend.
Johnson –
Very happy with the Sigma 2470 Art lens. Sharp and a fast 2.8, what more could you want. Less than half the price of the 2470 Sony GM, with equal results.
FERNANDO –
Great lens, it works beautiful. Image is sharp. If money is an issue, best option out there instead of the Sony G Master. Only problem, Photoshop does not have the profile to fix distortion automatically, but should be included soon.
Justin –
Using this on my s1. I primarily shoot short films and dabble in photography with this lens. Well built, fantastic image, but suffers from a few issues that make me feel like sigma is phoning it in on their L mount releases. Currently, the manual focus has a habit of randomly ceasing to respond. Its intermittent, but nearly every time Im out shooting it happens at least once. The other issue, is that even though the s1 allows me to set the focus ring to linear, which should allow for repeatable focus pulls, the lens behavior doesnt seem to respond at all to this change. Hopefully these issues can both be solved with firmware. I contacted Sigma twice now. No response to the linear issue, in regards to the unresponsive focus ring they basically said Id have to send it into them, unfortunately right now they arent receiving shipments and I cant send it anyway since I have upcoming shoots and this is my only lens. If they solve these issues I would most likely give this lens five stars.
Benjamin –
I bought a Panasonic S1 in April 2019 and Ive been using a Nikon adapter to hold me over until Sigma finally released a 2470mm f2.8 zoom for lmount this month. All I can say is it was worth the wait I know there were other options when the S1 launched, but Ive been happy with my Sigma art series 1835mm f1.8 lens on my S1 shooting in APSC mode for video. I own a 35mm f1.4 Nikkor prime, a 105mm f1.8 Nikkor prime, and a 58mm f1.4 Voightlander fmount prime, so when I wanted to shoot full frame I could, but I always planned on buying a native 2470mm f2.8 zoom. Im mainly a video shooter, so the quality of the 4K in APSC mode on my S1 is more than acceptable for my needs. With that said, a 2470mm f2.8 zoom is now essentially a 24105mm f2.8 zoom. I know Im not getting the same shallow depth of field in the 70105mm range, but this is a compromise I can live with to have the flexibility this one lens gives me on my S1.So what do I think of the image quality Im getting from this lens Hard to put into words. Ive been using the Sigma 1835mm f1.8 with the Metabones Speedbooster for five years now on Panasonic GH3, GH4 and GH5 bodies and can easily say that my Sigma 1835 has consistently been a reliable go to lens for me. Ive walked around with the Sigma 2470mm f2.8 lmount lens for the past two days and Ive been really pleased with the results. I uploaded a quick montage of the footage I captured to Vimeo.search forTampa Street Walk Sigma 2470mm f2.8 Lmount, Panasonic S1
Joe –
Photography is just my hobby, but this is the lens thats on my A7III most of the time. Great quality, great versatility, decent size.
Tj –
This is lens is everything I hoped it would be. Responsive and great autofocus. Images are sharp and look great
John –
This is the perfect lens for someone considering photography as a serious hobby or more The pictures you can get are wonderful
milinda –
Its been awesome, I love how this lens performs. the colors are amazing straight out of camera, which helps for editing. It has fast AF on Sony a7iii. You cant beat the price of this lens, its a great addition to anyones camera bag
Mark –
My headline says it all… wellmade and sturdy… wish it was smaller Sure Wish it was lighter Sure Nevertheless, on my Leica SL2 it balances out nicely and the image quality is excellent. Leica quality Dont know as I havent tried one and could barely afford the camera But I find it sharp and the contrast punchy.
Ryan –
literally the best lens Ive ever photographed with. Unfortunately, there is a terrible amount of dust inside the lens after one week of shooting. I paid a premium price for a premium lens that I believed was weather sealed. Not good.
Jesse –
I bought this as a quality alternative to the GMaster. I didnt think the extra 1k bought me 50 more quality, and I still feel that way a couple weeks later.Ive shot both personally and professionally with this, and Im happy with the results. The lens is as sharp as I need from center to edge, and I havent noticed any fringing or aberration. The need for software correction is minimal. The autofocus is fast, and theres plenty of light. Performs as well as Id hoped. The only potential drawback is how heavy it is, which is the price of playing poker for its build quality. I tried it out on a RoninS, and while the motors can handle it fine, and the cameras lens mount ring didnt seem strained, the total weight was prohibitive. So, if you were thinking about that, you should go with more of a RoninM type unit.Overall Im happy with the purchase, happy with the value, and happy I didnt spend the extra for the GMaster, though Id never fault someone who did.
Michael –
I use this on a Leica SL and a Sigma fp. The constant aperture makes video capture more efficient. For stills on these 24mpx sensors the lens is optically excellent and compares well with my Leica 2490 but is shorter and lighter. Down side is no IS with these cameras.
EVAN –
This was an amazing lens, really worked amazigly… until it just stopped. Its a pretty new lens but suddenly, theres no electrical connection. No aperture, focus, anything. Dead. It wasnt dropped, bumped, or anything. Really lame
dahar3987 –
Excellent build quality. Great value.. Great lens. Replacing Sony 2870mm kit lens. Attached pictures show the differences between the two. This Sigma lens is equal to the Sony 2470mm GM lens at half the price. Well packaged with a nice carryingstorage case.
Peter –
I am completely satisfied with this purchase. It supersede my expectations regarding built quality and image quality. It is fairly price lens consider for Sonys brand I would have to pay more than double. It is definitely best option instead of the kit lens even if it means you need postpone the purchase until you have the money. Kit lenses are not worth their money unless it is prime lens with low aperture.Strongly recommend.BTW expensive lenses last forever and still remain high trading values in the future.
Carsten –
I had been waiting almost two months to order this lens and I absolutely love it. It has great bokeh and even though its on the heavier side, I havent used any other lens in the past 3 weeks.
Pwolski –
I was looking for Standard Zoom to remove fiddling about swapping primes on paid work. Although I havent tried the equivalent GMaster 2470 f2.8, I dont think I now need to. Obviously that lens will be better than this, as a native top of the range etc, but the Sigma is plenty of lens enough that youll never feel youve missed out, esp for the money. I shoot on an A7iii If I used an A7R with more megapixels maybe the GM wouldve been worth it to maximise the compound benefits of both lens and camera… but that depends on individual circumstances I suppose. Objectively, though, its a brilliant lens. The quality is fantastic a different feel to my native Sony lenses, cleaner somehow and beautifully sharp. Its fast enough for most situations at f2.8, and thats as good as youll get from the Tamron and GM anyway. There is noticeable vignetting on the wider end but thats easily sorted by incamera corrections andor post. Same with distortion. The build quality is fantastic, the lens hood is particularly heavyweight compared to my other Sony lenses and has already come into its own in its secondary role as glass protection when my strap broke and I dropped my camera onto concrete. My only concern with materials is that it has rubberised parts which will get sticky over time, presumably. The only issue with this lens is that it is an absolute BEAST. Not sure about the GM but the Tamron would certainly be better for traveling or as a long term street lens. For the occasional street shoot, tripod work and events the weight probably wont be a problem. What I love most about this lens is the minimum focus distance. Its crazy. I was worried that it wouldnt match the 35mm prime this replaces which has a decent 28cm I think MFD and I use for food photography. This lens focuses closer at 35mm, and crazy close at 28mm for a std zoom. Its bigger than the 35mm prime meaning that I have less overhead space to play with on OH tripod food shoots, but goes wider. BUY
Alex –
Gives me great range of focus. Impressive image quality, clear video and photo, awesome Bokeh. Feels like quality. Get it.
Ramil –
The best lens for any life situation.1 F2.8 very light and sharp2 Includes 24mm, 50mm, 70mm3 not expensive and high quality
David –
Good zoom range, love the 2.8, and it is made for digital native Sony Sharp all the way through. My neighbor was impressed and purchased one too from BH.
Michael –
The Singma 2470mm has become my new go to lens for just about everything. Its large, heavy, and REALLY well constructed. If you are looking for just one good all around lens, this would be it.
Jay –
I like the image quality and build of this lens. It was a good price on sale, so I couldnt really pass it up even with the 82mm front element. Ill deal for that price. though Ill probably spend a couple hundred in filters that I have for 77mm alreadyThe downsides are the 82mm front element and the general size and weight. probably fairly typical for an f2.8 2470, but coming from m43 its big and heavy LOLAlso, I dont like the rubberized lens hood exterior. It picks up a lot of dustdirtfingerprints, so has turned dark gray with only a little use. It feels kind of nice, but not sure why its needed.
Benjamin –
I have three Sony G masters and a Tamron lens. I dont know why this is the only one I use. Its just a great lens and I would buy it again in a heartbeat if something happened to it.I took portraits with this and they were on par with a G master in a controlled studio setting with professional lighting. If there are visuallydetectable differences, I dont notice and obviously clients dont either.
David –
I purchased this lens to step up my equipment for my Sony A7R2. I had no idea what a difference it would make on the quality of the images I could capture. This lens is a beautiful match for my Sony. Unbelievable tack sharp images, sweet contrast . First stop was Bodie ghost town, which yielded a gang of wall hangers. I think the Sony and this lens are a great match and will be married to each other for quite some time. If you looking to step up your lens from a kit or less expensive brand, and are on the fence about this lens. Do yourself a solid and jump on it.
Andrew –
This lens works very well. The auto focus and look are excellent. I do not have the sony gm for a direct comparison, but I like the look and feel of this lens and at a 1000 savings I went with the sigma and am very happy.
Christian –
This lens is straight up magical. The clarity and precision that Im able to photograph with this lens and my new Sony Alpha a7Riii is INSANE. I love it so much and Im so glad I splurged on it 1010 recommend
romulo –
All in one folksenough said.videomaker or photographer on the go. just get it
MJS photo –
This was the first Sigma Lens I have purchased. It related a Sony 24105 f4. Overall it has the edge on the Sony and is a good match for my G Master 2470 f2.8. It is slightly small and lighter and easier to carry around. It will remain on my A7R3 as a great all rounder. highly recommended.
Sukhnandan –
I loved the lens but one minor bump against the car window damaged the focus motor. Sigma refused to honor their warranty. The housing is not strong enough and it needs to be handled with extra care. It is not something I would carry hiking, backpacking, offroading. I own a variety of canon and Sony lenses and I have never had to have a lens repaired before despite rougher use including drops on concrete and rocks. I will be reselling the lens once it comes back and buying something more rugged like a GM lens. No wonder it is much cheaper that the other lenses like the Sony GM
Theodore –
Crispy sharp photos edge to edge, only used this lens for a week and thats too early to give a real review but my first impressions after a week of use is awesome. Build quality is supreme. Sigma is known for Gr8 quality and this lens is no different
CLAUDETTE –
Absolutely love this lens Its a beast Its big and heavy duty. Makes the camera super heavy. The pictures I capture with this lens are great shots almost every single time. They come out crystal clear, beautiful, detailed High definition pictures. That I love The only issue I have had is wanting to zoom inout a little more and not be able too, but other than that its a favorite lens
Pavel –
Tack sharp it is… not Since Sigma did not deliver on the release date, I had to go with a Tamron for our Christmas vacation trip. When Sigma finally arrived on Jan 2, I carefully compared the two lenses. Either my copy of Tamron is really sharp, or my copy of Sigma did not deliver. It was worse than Tamron at all focal lengths and all the way to f5.6. Only at f8 it matched the Tamron performance barely. That was really upsetting given everything Ive ever heard about Sigma quality. I really liked the build quality and 24 mm vs 28 mm focal distance. Back it went for refund. I suggest you wait a bit until they sort out all the glitches. I think there may be copies with similar issues out there, Ive seen some reviews to that regard.
Ben –
Some distortion and sometimes it works like a 4.5 instead of a 5, but there is no better 2470 f 2.8 out there right now, especially for the price. Its like half of everyone elses and its great. Does pick up a ton of dust like everyone says. I would say that is annoying and really does mess up a shot every once in a while, but I would say the trade off is fair because besides that it really is the best available at a great price
Daniel –
Was debating between this lens and the Sony G master. Ended up getting the Sigma and havent regretted it yet. Build quality is great and the lens even comes with a nice bag for travel. Images are sharp and bokeh is pleasing. For video shooters, this lens is a linear focus lens with little to no breathing. However, do note that it still uses a focus by wire system. So dont expect any hard stops for manual focus.
Gilbert –
This was my first experience with a sigma lens but Ive researched it and watched several review videos on it and decided to give it chance. Normally I would rent the sony Gmasters 2470mm lens for weddings and events but Ive grown tired of the time restrictions so figured invest in a permanent option. This lens is extremely sharp quick focusing and light weight. I used it for the first time actually yesterday to shoot Christmas portraits and I love it. Fits nicely into my camera bag glad I made the purchase its definitely worth the price you wont regret it.
Max –
This is the lens that convinced me to move back to the E mount system. Sonys G Master glass isnt bad but what Sigma is doing with their DG DN art line is incredible when you consider the value and build quality of their lenses. This boy is a tank and fits perfectly with my a7siii body even without battery grip. Its actually slightly smaller than the G Master too Save your money and go with this. Also tbh I think it looks even nicer, the materials use involve some plastic and rubber but its all super high quality and tactile surfaces. Most of the solid stuff feels metal. Autofocus is a dream and coming from a Fuji system with first party lenses on that side this is a major improvement.
Muhammad –
I am using Sony cameras for awhile now. As far as the great lenses for Sony system, G Masters are great but too expensive.Sigma always keeps good balance between the quality price. I had 2470 2.8 GM lens, which is twice the price of the sigma. I returned sony and bought Sigma, never regret my decision. There are some advantages to GM lenses but not worth the huge difference in the price. I am extremely happy with my choice. Picture quality, sharpness and focus performance is on par with GM.
NATHAN –
Fantastic lens, comparable in quality to the Sony version for half the price. As with all Sigma lenses Ive owned, this feels much heavier than the Sony but performs great.
Andrew –
Since Im so disappointed at Sonys 2470mm GM for its price, I looked for an alternative. I tried Tamron 2875mm, and although it was okay for its price, I wanted something with better image quality. When I almost gave up that I may have to pay a fortune to get Sonys 2470mm GM to get somewhat decent image quality, this lens got released, and this savior is what Ive been looking forFantastic image, nice smooth bokeh, and not too heavy for Sigma. It is still a bit on the heavy side for me, but not compared to their DSLR lenses. I can tolerate some muscle pains on my arms if I can get this great quality of pictures. Do NOT buy Sony 2470mm GM. Either buy this or buy budgetfriendly Tamron 2875mm.
Rodney –
Wow I already have the 70200 F2.8 GM to capture the grandsons baseball activities. These two lenses compliment each other and provide about 90 of my hardware photography needs. This Sigma is superb
Alec –
If youre looking to purchase this lens, youre probably deciding between this and the Tamron 2875. The Sony GMaster is twice the price and the Sigma has 95 of the performance, so here we are, Tamron vs. Sigma. For me, the 24mm vs 28mm on the wide end was the dealbreaker, I shoot inside a lot and the extra 4mm may seem insignificant but makes a large difference. Whereas the extra 5mm on the long end is barely noticeable. Ive included pictures of 24 vs 28mm. Ive seen many people mention the distortion on the wide end of the lenses, especially the sigma, but… lens correction in lightroom eliminates that in one click.I would also note as someone who has held both the sigma and Tamron, the sigma feels to be much higher quality whereas the Tamron is cheaper feeling with more plastic. Now addressing the wins people often give to the Tamron over the Sigma. First, the Tamron is a 67mm filter whereas the sigma is the more expensive 82mm. I only buy 82mm filters and use stepup rings for all my smaller lenses so this never concerned me. If youre only buying one lens, then perhaps you want the smaller filter in order to keep things more compact, which leads me to my next point in which the Tamron wins, even for me… Size and weight. Yes, the Sigma has more quality to it, but the Tamron is no doubt a smaller and leaner lens, something that aids in portability and having to carry the whole thing. But hey, quality, zoom, fullframe glass will always be heavy.Another win for the Tamron is price, 880 vs 1100. Ive seen the Sigma on sell as low as 900 and the Tamron as low as 750. This is really where you have to weigh your use case and whether or not the Sigma is worth the extra cash. For me it was, but for you, maybe not. Overall, the Sigma is an absolutely great lens and I highly recommend it to someone who needs something thats an allarounder.
Joshua –
This lens is fantastic. Sharp image quality, solid build, and fast autofocus. The focus and zoom rings feel smooth and responsive. The zoom lock is a nice touch but it only works when the lens is zoomed out to 24mm so its more for storing the lens. Its also a hefty lens since its a constant F2.8 with an 82mm filter thread. All in all for the price this lens cant be beat.
Steven –
I have been really impressed with the build quality of this lens. It is very well constructed, and it feels great in the hand. The image quality is superb, and it is clear and sharp across the whole range.Im using it on the Sigma FP and they pair very well. I would strongly recommend that you use it with a cage, otherwise the camera gets dwarfed by the lens. A cage also provides a larger grip, which is essential when using a lens of this size and weight.
michael –
I am on Sonys 2470 GM as well as Camerons 28 Dash 75. When sigma introduced their 2470 I watched Gerald Undones review and decided to try the Sigma. The Sigma works flawlessly. I cant see any possible reason to spend the extra money on the GM unless you need the extra stabilization. On my a7S3 I dont see the need for extra lens stabilization. And although the Tamron was very nice, the sigma is superior in just about every way. If you really need the savings in size and weight then I guess the Tamron would be the way to go. The Tamron and the GM are great but the Sigma for me is definitely The superior choice.
Mourad –
When I wanted a standard zoom for my A7 r4, i tried both the Tamron 2875 and the Sigma 2470. Both are really excellent lenses but I went with the Sigma because I need the 24mm makes a big difference and find the extra controls on the lens very useful specially the custom button there is never enough custom controls on the A7 r4.Only downside of the Sigma compared to the Tamron are the extra weight and the price. Both worth it in my case.
Mark –
Sharpness is average at best. Most disappointed with the extreme vignetting at f 2.8.
buonbianchi55 –
This is a fantastic lens in every way, what we expect from the Sigma Art line. Significantly less expensive than the Sony GMaster similar. Fast, reliable autofocus, sharp corner to corner.
jeffrey –
This lens was everything I need and more. Beautiful and Sharp, smooth and silent AF for video. The great AFL button, once I learned how it worked, lol. Its just stellar and looks amazing on FF A7Sii and FX3.
Peter –
Super sharp across the frame the contrast and colors are wonderful on this lens. Some people take issue with the bokeh I suggest taking a look at some sample photos. Ive found its smooth and blends together nicely, unlike what some people say about it being highly contrasty and distracting. While its not Zeiss levels of sharp, its still wildly sharp, definitely enough for product photography, but still a pleasant amount of softness enough for portraiture. If anything, the color cast of this lens compared others Ive shot with, such as Sony GMs and Zeiss glass, is a little bit warmer and perhaps a bit greener, but these are so subtle theyre hardly noticeable, and definitely correctible in both DaVinci and Ps Lr.Everybody already knows this, but you cant beat a 2470mm f2.8 ever, much less at this price. Even wide open, especially wide open, this lens is still super sharp and beautiful. Will be in my kit for a long time.
Nicholas –
Just received this lens first weekend out and Im thoroughly impressed with the results. This thing is SHARP and autofocus keeps up like a champ on my A7iii.It was between this and the Tamron for me I wanted the extra 4mm on the low end and I didnt mind the extra weight. YMMVI have zero regrets about purchase Id youre one the fence like I was for several months I doubt youll be disappointed.
Omer –
Amazing lens More than I expected for the price. My copy of this lens is super sharp from 24 to 70mm. I compared at 24mm with the 1635 GM and the 25mm Batis 2.0 and in terms of sharpness is right in the middle, above the GM.At 55 mm is also as sharp in the center as my Sony 55mm 1.8 and almost as sharp in the corners. Same thing with the comparison I made with the 35mm 1.8 FE.In the bokeh department is as good as my old Sony 2470 2.8 ZA which out of focus areas I simply love.
Joshua –
I really, really wanted to like this lens. I dont. Theres absolutely nothing special about it. I did a series of tests with different charts, and it performed well on almost all of them. The lens was centered well enough. Good sharpness across the frame. But the barrel distortion was offensively bad, and the LoCA wasnt great either.Character was very blah. Less interesting than Sonys 24105 F4 G, which I thought had terrible LoCA. I would have kept it if not for that. This Sigma was hopefully going to replace it. Its not. This Sigma also has plenty of chromatic aberrations, though I dont think they were as bad as the Sony. Still not very good. I saw plenty of purple and green fringing on some basic test shots.Color accuracy was okay, but felt slightly desaturated. Better than the Sigma 50mm Art prime lens I had that turned everything red.Contrast wasnt great either.Everything about this lens is mediocre, except the distortion which is bad. I took some wide to medium shots, and felt like something was off. It wasnt until I finally took pictures of straight line shapes that I saw what the issue was.Maybe theyll fix this to some degree with a firmware update. Im not going to wait around to find out. The lens is going back.
Chad –
If you are looking for a lens that provides great flexibility, high performance wide open, and uncompromising sharpness, look no further. This lens is easy to compare to the Tamron 2875mm, which also provide great value, but the Tamron is a step back in terms of sharpness, corner distortion, and overall build quality. Its also easy to compare to the Sony GM with the same focal range, but the Sonys performance is on par with this lens and and costs twice as much, while being larger and heavier Additionally the constant f2.8 is invaluable for video shooters. The only cons I have for this lens is that there is some barrel distortion while wide open, its not as bad as similar lenses, but it is present. Secondly, I wish there was a aperture ring like you see on many sony GM primes. All and all, great value for the money. If you need a zoom that provides a flexible range and fast aperture, this lens is hard to beat, especially for the price.

This lens is a beauty The quality is very sharp with auto focus responding just as quick as the G master version but coming in at a fraction of the original beast. Highly recommend this

If youre an amateur photographer like me, spending 2000 on a lens can be a stretch. Thankfully Sigma created this budget friendly lens and it is certainly not a cheap knock off. The build on the lens is A grade and nothing felt cheap or plasticky. Id definitely recommend this to my cash strapped photog friends.

The build quality is fantastic. The optics are as good as any 2470mm can be. However, this lens has one severe and massive design flaw. When used on either the S1 or S1H, its aperture cannot smoothly open and close the way Lumix native lenses do. Instead, if your shutter speed is set and you want the apertureiris to auto open and close to control exposure, it will literally stairstep open and closed. This creates jolting exposure shifts in video recording. I called Sigma and they confirmed that this is absolutely a design issue with the lens. Its a shame that a modern, newly designed lens in 2020 doesnt have a smooth ramping aperture in video considering how important video is in camera bodies today. Sadly, I had to return this lens and buy the Lumix 2470 with smooth aperture. This was a shame because the Sigma is half the price and could have been perfect. If you dont care about video apertureiris pulls, this is a great lens for photography.

This lens is just as good as its more expensive counterpart. Sharp, contrasty and beautiful color on Panasonic S1, S1H and S1R bodies.

This lens is everything thats good about sigma. Has fantastic optics as well as great feeling in the focus and zoom rings. Cannot recommend enough.

This is a beautifully sharp, fast, lightweight, versatile lens for the indoor working photographer. This is not for the outdoor photographer as it suffers from a major internal dust issue caused by a vacuum effect during the retraction of the zoom barrel. This lens should simply not be advertised as a lens with a weathersealed design that benefits working in trying environmental conditions. I returned it within 2 weeks of purchasing. My previously owned Sigma Art 1835 50100mm f1.8 lenses were built much more resistant to dust even though they are not advertised to be weather sealed like this one. Hopefully this dust issue will be addressed in a 2nd version of the lens.

The lens is well built, feels nice, not too heavy like they say. Just that I didnt like that my copy had chromatic aberrationheavy purple fringing… sorry I had to return it because its just something I cant stand.
Jack –
I thought I did not like the weight and that it could not replace my primes. That was the wrong thinking. This is very complementary to an existing set of primes. I have most of the Sony primes and the color characteristics of this Sigma just makes you wish you had it. I can deal with the weight for the optical quality this lens delivers.

I purchased this lens Back in March at my local store. Got super lucky as they were sold out the since Febuary. Performance is absolutely amazing I rented out a 2470 G Master prior to purchasing and I can say by far, this sigma is the better lens. And for half the price, I cant think anyone in the right mind that wouldnt take this over the GMaster. Im mostly a prime shooter and use an A7Riii. I found my self going multiple shoots without changing lenses. This this is crispy sharp. It is a bit heavy but most 2470mm tend to be on The heavier side
Riley –
I love this lens so far Super sharp and super quick to focus Eye autofocus works great as well

Been doing film photo for events with my 1635gm and I find it a bit short in length. I say that because due to covid measures we have to distance ourselves more from people. So having this Sigma 2470 helps out a lot. Its pretty sharp for photos too Impressed with this lens so far.

Got this lens this week. It has excellent build quality. Fine controls, AFMF switch and programmable focus hold button like the GM, but at half the price. Great focusing and quiet too. Sony Alpha Blogs tests MTF standard show the Sigma outresolves both the Sony 2470mm GM and Tamron 2875mm. Lighter than the GM. So far my photos look great using it on my A7RIV. What an excellent choice and price for true quality. If you dont already have the excellent GM or Tamron, I would get this Sigma for sure. Cheers
Waymon –
Took this on a low light street photo shoot and it performed extremely well, I didnt use a strobe light just natural street light to catch some of my scenes and it did a good at maintaining sharpness.
Belinda –
Bought this for my Sony A7C perfect Lens gives me great versatility and fantastic clarity. Its going to be my goto lens for years to come.
Brad –
I love this lens, it is my favorite and most versatile. Solidly built, quiet action, quick auto focus, well designed.
Jake –
I bought this and was super excited to open it and get shooting. When I opened it there were 2 very small chips around the edge of the ledge. This is super disappointing to me.

Ive been a prime guy for years. As a amateur landscape photographer I never wanted to sacrifice image quality for convenience. I was on a trail a few months ago and it hit me that I didnt want to change lenses so often anymore. I thought about switching over to Nikon and getting a Z7 and the 2470 2.8, but I thought I would give this a try first. For the most part Im glad I did. Mine is really good but it doesnt have the image quality of a prime like Ive heard some say it does. It has bad vignetting and distortion. Theres a profile in lightroom so those are both gone in a click. Ive tested it twice, once at infinity and again from about 5 feet out from a fence. Its tack sharp in the center wide open at all focal lengths. The mid frame is good by f4. There are times when mine needs to be stopped down to f11 for some of the corners to look good though. I was able to drop a radial filter on those corners at f8 and make them look better. Im planning on shooting everything a bit wide and cropping in if I need the corners to be sharp at f8. I can confirm that its soft up close. The center looks good, but sharpness falls off quick. Ive only had it a few days, so I cant comment on the dust issue. All in all Im happy and Im anticipating it being glued on to my a7rii. I would really like the corners to be completely cleared up by f8 and the close up image quality to be better. I wont pay 2000 for something that doesnt check both of those boxes and is maybe only fractionally better than the dg dn. You cant go wrong with this lens for the price.

For the most part I really love this lens Its super sharp and crisp throughout for photos. When focusing for videos, its a little slow and sluggish. Ive always loved every Sigma Art lens Ive owned, but this one is not quite the quality Ive come to expect. It could be my Sony thats having issues as well, but this seems to be the only lens thats focused so slow during video. At any rate, I love everything else about it Solid and sturdy, not too heavy and shoots pictures like a dream, even wide open
Ryan –
Sigma is crushing it right now This lens stayed on my camera for an entire wedding day and gave me the opportunity to get a wider range of shots with ease. Super sharp image and never lost focus in AF. Hard to justify going Sony GM with quality like this at this price point.

Ive got Leica CL with 1856 Leica kit lens in 2018 as travel camera. All photos I did not much were not sharp enough. I went to Leica in July 2019 and complained about sharpness. Leica rep checked the camera and lens and I was told that all OK. So I kept using Leica DLux and loved it. Recently being in Manhattan I bought Sigma 2470 Art lens. What a difference Much heavier than kit lens, twice less expensive and very sharp. Im not sure that Ill travel with it due to the wight , but Im going to use Leica CL with the new lens more often.

So first of lets start this review with this lens is amazing, auto focus is snappy, the bokeh at 2.8 is lovely and wait youre not gonna believe it…….its a 1000 dollars cheaper than the Sony version and it actually is equivalent if not better. Wish I could submit some photos I just got with this thing, if interested check out 219shooter on IG
bemaginate –
seemed to get what i payed for, sharp and all metal with zero focus breathing. wished the autofocus was better but thats mostly Panasonics fault.

I cant say enough good things about this lens. I use it for photography and videography, and it has never disappointed.Responsive and great autofocus. Images are sharp and look greatI love it.
Luis –
Exceded my expectations. I was kind of skeptical about this one but the results have been great Compared with the Sony GM lens for more than half the price is a no brainer. Lock on the hood was a nice detail. Also the lock on the zoom unlock every time you want to zoom in. Expect it to be heavy. Always remember is not the arrow is the archer.

I ordered this lens after months of comparing the gm to the sigma art. I reluctantly ordered this lens expecting nothing special about it. After taking it out and shooting with it professionally I can say this lens is special. From the way it renders colors to the way it blurs the background. I cant believe it only costs 1099. I also love the macro capabilities of it making it that much more versatile. I am someone who typically only likes to shoot with a 1635 or 70200 and leave the 2470 in the bag or at home. Not anymore, this is going to be glued to my camera for a long time. Hope this review helps, its seriously incredible

Generally Ive been a prime shooter from the beginning but these new Sigma lenses have changed my view. I now own the Sigma 14 24mm in the 2470mm f2.8 both of these lenses give you prime quality with the flexibility of a zoom. The primes I found sharper are the Sigma 35mm F 1.2 the Sony 135mm GM and the Sony 24mm GM. This is a must have lens for any Emount user as it is 99 what the Sony G Master is plus it has better image resolution at half the cost of the Sony G Master.

I ended up buying two copies of the Sigma 2470 and two copies of the Sony 2470 2.8 GM. Yes a bit crazy but I got tired of reading and watching reviews online plus I was bored I wanted to see for myself. Ended up keeping the sigma from BH which was a better copy compared to the store version at 50mm soft at all apertures almost. My conclusion is same as what others have reported at fred miranda forums. The sigma tends to render things in distance better than the GM which is important for me because it will be my landscape lens. The AF speed and accuracy is pretty much on par with GM. Maaaaaybee the GM is just a tiny bit faster but really not noticeable all lenses were on latest firmware, I checked. Also I really love the colors of the sigma and contrast. From almost all the focal ranges I tested 24, 35, 50, 70, the sigma did better in center to mid area especially and was pretty much on par with the GM. I really had no flare issues either with both lenses. The GM was slightly better at 50mm tested against the worse copy, didnt retest against the 2nd sigma copy which was much better than the 1st sigma copy so I am confident it will be on par if not beter than the GM. A sunset I took where I used both lenses clearly showed me how much better the sigma did at 24, 35 and 70mm. Very impressed by the sigma. So glad I got to actually test the GM. Its a great lens but seriously for half the price you get even better performance….that is really hard to say no to unless all you will do is use the lens for video and you need that faster video AF. Now I know why this lens is selling so well. I am not too worried about the reported dust issues. I take care of my equipment well and if there are issues with dust I can always send it to sigma to have them take c are of it or use the warranty I got from BH.

I have been renting lenses for the last couple years since I got into photography and finally decided to purchase one to replace my kit lens. I love the Sigma lens. Its lighter than the Sony G master which is important to me for backpacking and hiking.
Mark –
I love this lens, its versatile, sharp and affordable. I shoot most of my stuff between 2470 so its perfect. Build quality is top notch on Sigma Art lenses, focus throw is particularly good for a focus by wire system.I would love it if they put the aperture control on the lens itself, but old habits die hard.I made a review on the lens that can be seen here if interested. Not looking for subscribers, but not a lot of reviews for the L mount on the S camera bodies for this lens, so figured Id bang one out.httpswww.youtube.comwatchvkWW5GWrAEt53s

This is my first Sigma purchase, and I was really on the fence of prime vs zoom. Ive only had this lens for two weeks, and Ive only used it outdoors. I had rented the 20mm before, but I found 24 was sufficient for my use. Eventually, Ill want something with more reach. For now, I have no regrets and Im really enjoying this lens. Ill have to scope out other Sigma lenses now
Mark –
Not a lot of L mount options for the S series, great options, but not a lot of them. The Lumix S series are fantastic, but cost twice as much as this one. Not sure that price differential is really apparent for many of us.Solid build quality and quite sharp across the FSTOP scale I think its my ONE AND DONE L mount lens. I mostly shoot vintage lenses, but wanted one native mount lens for my S1H. This is it.I reviewed this a few weeks ago here, not looking for subs, but just passing on my experience and samples with the lens. Chapters for easy navigation in the body of the video.httpswww.youtube.comwatchvkWW5GWrAEt5s

Absolutely love this lens so far… this is my first zoom lens and Im really happy with the versatility. You really cant beat the price for this kind of quality.Suggestion Pay a little extra for the warranty. I made the mistake of not and my friend ended up dropping it… luckily its still operational. The outer glass has a knick in it but its not within view of the lens thankfully.
Aaron –
Love the lens, its great for an every day carry BH made me love the lens even more with its smooth delivery process and didnt run into any problems

I had the tamron 28 to 75 for nearly a year before I bought this lens. That lens was amazing, but this lens has blown the tamron out of the water. The sigma grabs the eye better than any lens I have used, the colors that come out of it are gorgeous, and the built quality is amazing. The only bad thing I have to say about the lens is the weight on it. Its a heavy one, but Sigma is known for making not the lightest of lenses. If you are more on the causal side when it comes to photography, this one might not be for you. This one will weigh on you after a while. If you do not mind the weight, this is a lens you need to buy right away. You will not regret it.
Lisa –
This lens captures unbelieveable images. Photosvideo is so crisp and detailed. Great if you like to switch quickly into Manuel focus. Great night lens too You wont be disappointed
Travis –
Ive used this lens 3 times and its littered with dust. Save up and get the Sony GM lens. I shoot in urban environments. Its not that dusty yet my lens is full of it.
Alain –
Ive used canon lenses for years and thought they were the best thing since sliced bread. Well, heres a new slice. This lens is sharp, fast, and 12 price when compared to the equivalent Sony one. Focus is super fast, and very quiet. Would recommend in a heartbeat
Jimmie –
This lense is tack sharp. It feels like it was meant for the Sony E Mount. Great feel in your hands that commands your attention. Robust and weather sealed. True Sigma quality and craftsmanship. Love this lense.
Danny –
What an amazing lens. The pictures come out crisp and clear. If you are looking to take professional pictures in different environments dont hesitate. Get this lens now while they are in stock.
Matt –
Dropped the lens twice in the first weekend we had it. The first time on a cement driveway. The fall barely left a mark. The lens is sharp. Great color. My wife is incredibly critical of sharpness and color fidelity and this thing makes the cut. Lenses she has discarded include a very popular e mount 35mm f1.4 and 2875 f2.8.
Joseph –
This lens is incredibly sharp. Ive been using it with my a7ii and its my new work horse lens. Great focal range and its not too big. It would be great for shooting events.
Cristhian –
So far, this is the sharpest and versatile lens I have. The build quality is excelent and, yes maybe can be a bit heavy, but for me, give estability and presence. The lack of in body stabilization is not an issue for me, and for this price, you wont regreat buying it.100 recommended.
Josh –
This is a short review because we all already know how good this lens is.I planned to use it mostly for video and made a quick decision when the price was right. But I failed to check its weight, I find it too heavy for hand held, monopod and stabilizer usage. The weight is no problem when using a tripod.
Teerachai –
I wish someone had known this or mentioned this. This lens is not compatible with Sonys EYE Af function. I may have gotten the Sony GM version instead. Its a great lens in every other respect.
Nathan –
Ill keep it short. Its a workhorse that will be worth your investment. It shoots like its more expensive Gmaster. Ive shot with both I cant tell the difference.Oddly enough vignette on the wide end is better on this lens than the Gmaster I shot on.Yeah its heavy for a lens, but as far video hear goes its not that heavy.
Michael –
I was able to use this on a shoot right out of the gate and it did everything I needed it to. The quality is superb, especially for the price.
