I bought this short zoom by the description only. Ordered though my local kit supplier and it arrived a couple of days later, I actually picked up on the way to the airport on the day I was due to fly to Italy. So no chance to try it out before hand. I spent a week taking 100s of photos in Rome, Naples, Capri and the Pompeii ruins. The bulk of the images were taken inside basilicas and of architectural features . F2.8 working was great. I did a few sticktogether panoramas, Again QUALITY stuff, unexpected from a micro43, considering Im a full frame DSLR user. In the end, I only used this one lens for the whole trip, my other lenses stayed firmly in the hotel room. Im off to Japan later this year, my GX7 and this lens is all Im taking. Expensive, yes….. but really worth every penny

Just go on youtube and listen to your most trusted reviewers and theyll confirm that this is THE best lens that you can buy for the GH4 or other Micro 43 camera that you might have at this price range. Like I say dont take my word for it youtube it.

The constant aperture in this lens is a dream, making this my new goto lens for videography on the GH5. The O.I.S. is spectacular. When you turn it on, the image gets slightly cropped, but the level of stability you get in return is well worth the tradeoff. The variable zoom with constant aperture is just perfect for video work. If you are looking for a workhorse lens for the Panasonic GH5 for video, and you dont have the budget for gimbals andor a speedbooster, this lens is by far my best recommendation, and one of my favorite allaround MFT lenses. Get it

This is a great lens Its the equivalent of a 2470mm lens on a standard camera. It takes sharp, clear images, has a smooth focus ring, and is lightweight. The other accessories are junk, though.

I have been using this Lens for 2 months and I found that it is comparable to my P25, better than P14 prime Lens. It is more flexible than the P25. I dont have to change lens often, especially on a trip when luggage weight is also a consideration. This lens provide better color rendition than P14. It is very sharp, and waterproof, a Pro Lens class. It may be sharper than the P25 when OIS come into play, reduce handshake and which is vital for low light condition. The lens flare issue doesnt border me, and I found that it is an advantage for night scene.

The Panasonic Lumix G 1235mm f2.8 II ASPH is built to be a workhorse. This lens has some serious weight because of high quality materials. A lens like this is built to a specification not a price. What I like the most about this lens is the constant f2.8 aperture though the entire zoom range. This is a lens for a serious for photographer, or videographer.

One of the best M43 lenses available with very useful zoom range. Can aslo be used both day and night with maximum f2.8. Image Stabilization works great. Background blur is not impressive as olympus 45mm f1.8, but quite good. I do not miss using a prime lens with that range 1235mm. Overall, I love this lens and plan to keep it as long as I have a M43 camera.

This lens plus my 14 x 140 will satisfy 95 of all my photo needs

This is probably one of the most essential lenses to get for a Lumix camera. And if looked after should last you for life.

  10. blank

    Tim

With BMPCC 4K, this seems to be the best lens available that offers OIS thats not a prime lens. There may be some other lens with OIS but those focal lengths are way too big for the BMPCC 4k While 2.8f isnt as fast as desired, its the best thing on the market.

  11. blank

    AMKHA

This is no doubt THE BEST micro 43 out there. I used this lens mostly for video, love the lowlight and wide angle on it. My only complain is the lens cap keep coming off by itself.

This lens the first of my quest for the holy trinity of Panasonic G X series Power OIS II lenses. The GX Vario 1235mm f2.8 is the equivalent of the DSLRs 2470mm f2.8 but in a micro four third system. I chose this over the 1260 because of the smaller size and constant aperture. And, it will pair well with the 35100mm f2.8.The 1235mm focal range is a great all around lens that allows me to shoot many styles of photography and video in changing conditions anytime, anywhere. Its small, compact, light, weather sealed, and inconspicuous. The low light performance is great. The AF is super fast and accurate. And this lens works great with the Dual IS 2 of the LUMIX G9. Ive not had any micro jitters. Some of the things that are not great. The focus by wire for video. But, Ive developed a work around using the manual focus to start the focus shift, and use back button focus to finish for accuracy. Also, the lens barrel extends out when zooming out. Not really a problem, but the air sucking could inhibit dust into the lens which is my main concern shooting mostly in the desert. At any rate, a great lens for the G9 for photo and video. And like my DSLRs it will be my main lens that will be used the most. Some may consider it pricy, but for the equivalent of a DSLR 2470, in this compact size, its a great deal.

It isnt true that a zoom can never be as sharp as a prime lens but the odds are against it. So far, I found the 818 Panasonic labeled Leica, but Panasonic and the 351002.8 Panasonic are first class lenses. Sharp enough to make the most of m43, yet small enough to make sense. Neither of these are cheap but theyre worth it.So, with the excellent 818 at one end and the very sharp 35100 at the other, what to do about the middle The obvious choice is the Panasonic 12352.8. Its quite good, and the appropriate size for a m43 camera. But like widetele zooms for full frame cameras, the 1235 isnt without flaws. Its sharp in the center, period, but at 12mm the corners are not great. The 12352.8 is very convenient for walking around and much, much better than the 200 zooms people rave about, but if youre used to eyepopping sharpness and want a reasonbly sized lens, you might consider just using a 25mm or 30mm prime.I tried the PanasonicLeica 1260 and found my 1235 was slightly better, plus smaller and lighter. But the 1260 has a great range and is not bad either. My strategy is to use the 818 up to 18mm, and then switch to the 1235 because by the time it gets to 18mm, the 1235 is excellent.

Autofocus is speedy, would satisfy the most discerning user. As a reviewer put it, this lens was built to meet a specification not a price. It has a good range of focal length for daily use. It is a handsomely fitted lens which gives crisp images and is well suited for still and video. Zoom action is a little bit stiff and may need an accesssory lever to achieve zoom control. Not a gripe, just an observation. I would like to know how weather sealed this lens is,and Pana does not say except one gasket.. I am a cheapskate at heart and yet I feel I got my moneys worth. Hope the price drops a little, but so do all of us with limited hobby funds. Worth the cash if you need the F 2.8 constant. Or like the value of same.

I use this lens on my Lumix GX8 and I rarely use any other lenses. The image and color is great and it is very easy to use and as with most m 43 lenses, it is quite compact as well as light. I would highly recommend it.

This was my micro 43 lens. I am a full frame shooter and was skeptical about getting good quality image from such small sensor and small lens. But I have to say Im am so impressed with this glass. The images are stunning and the stabilization works fantastic with my Gh5. The footage handheld is very impressive. I chose this over the newer version since there wasnt much difference and it was a few hundred dollars less. I would recommend this lens.

  23. blank

Good but not great. Maybe I have been spoiled by great lenses such as Olympus 17mm, 12mm, and 75mm then when I put my hands on this Panasonic 1235mm II I realized that it is not that sharp. Zoom lenses are very useful, however a zoom lens will never be as sharp as a prime ones. Not sending it back. It is a keeper. Very good lens but not great.

  25. blank

The manual focus ring and also the autofocus stop working after 1y and 3 months using it less than 1 time a month.. Panasonic offers 3 years warranty for this lens but Its not worldwide warranty as I expected.. Unfortunately my first experience with Panasonic lens is not being good.

    Tim

Great compliment to the 1235. Sharp at all focal lengths and apertures. Sharpest at about f4. Between the 2 lenses, it gives you a lot of range of shooting. This lens is equally adept at photos and video. Its a musthave. Another good feature is that it adjusts the glass internally no external telescoping Very nice focal range for the size. Can keep things nice and discreet. Nothing really negative to say about it. Now Im adding some primes for specific applications.

Im an amateur, so I havent used it as broadly as might a pro. I bought the lens primarily to use when taking multi row panorama frames using an RSS gimbal. The focal length range is perfect for that use. Initial impressions are positive, it focuses sharply and renders colors well. Im about to take off on a long journey Ill update my review when I return.

The perfect all around lens. Its very solidly built and has a not too heavy, not too light. I love using it. But the only thing you can complain about is the f2.8 on a mtf body. But otherwise its the perfect everything lens

  36. blank

    floodgate76

I dont know what to say that hasnt been said by much better photographers than me, and thats why I bought it. I knew the specs were what I wanted, I saw examples and really liked what I saw. I bought this because it is supposed to be optically excellent, and it truly is. I bought it for the practical use of a wide angle lens with the ability zoom and a relatively fast constant aperture, it delivers this too. I also love that its weathersealed, this means using it with my weathersealed GH4 is perfect, not having to worry about a bit of dust or rain. But I havent yet tested those conditions. Only negatives are the price, but Its actually not much compared to motherliness of this quality. Its still a lot. Then theres the lens hood which is a bit odd to click on feels like it doesnt entirely fit, especially when you reverse it for transport. Oh, and the rubber grips on the focuszoom rings are lintmagnets.

  37. blank

    Mauricio

I use this lens for video mostly. I love its low weight and hight optical quality. It has focus by wire, which many people seem to dislike. But I paired with a GH5 camera, and do most of my focusing through the touch screen, which imo, is a superb feature. In low light I do it manually, but the focus by wire hasnt been a nuisance so far.

I use this with my BMPCC4K, and it works amazingly. It has IS which is super nice because the camera doesnt. And its f2.8 is just added awesomeness. 1235 covers all that one would need, and it has a very smooth zoom and focus. Worth the price

The Panasonic Lumix 35100mm f2.8 ll is a gem. Its equivalent to a 70200mm f2.8 FF lens but less than a fourth of the weightand less than half the price Its as sharp and contrasty as any prime lensjust amazing optics. It takes full advantage of the 20.3 MP sensor in my MFT Lumix camera. And the lens doesnt extend at all when zooming or focusing, which means less dust is sucked in when zooming or focusing. Fully weather sealed. Switch on lens barrel turns optical image stabilization on and off.

This lens is easy to use and very compatible with any indoor portrait situation. Havent tried it much outdoors. This lens, and the 100300 mm lens are pretty close to all, if not all you need to get started. Beyond these two, Id focus on filters and special effects lenses.

The range is perfect for m43 format, and the f2.8 aperture helps is lower light setups. The image is clean, no obvious visible chromatic aberrations. The lens maintains a great geometry throughout the range. Pretty good for video too, it focuses really fast and the zoom range associated with the crop factor makes it an excellent lens for handheld operations. The bonus is the OIS, it does help smooth out micro shakes. Improvements I wish Panasonic and Olympus could be a bit more up to date with peoples needs. An f1.8 or f1.4 constant aperture, parfocal zoom lens with OIS is what most dslr videographers and event photographers would call an amazing and versatile low light lens.. Until the day when Panasonic and Olympus would rival 5D MKIII and an at least 10 or The A7s usable high iso range there will always be a group of unhappy M43 users… 1235mm f1.8 with OIS would have been greater than any of the lenses Panasonic and Olympus have been providing to their loyal customer at heavy prices. If sigma can do it, why cant they

I bought this lens to take on safari to Kenya and Tanzania. The 35100mm focal length was ideal for much of the big animal wildlife photography that I enjoyed on this trip. The fast f2.8 aperture was an added bonus I could get amazingly sharp photos at dawn and dusk, photos that my other, slower lenses could not capture. The small size and light weight of the lens made it ideal for travel.Overall, I am very happy with this lens and look forward to using it for years to come.

Small and light for a f2.8 lens. Sharp and refers nicely. Ive also owned the 1240, and I prefer this the 1235. I think the rendering is nicer and the smaller size is more in line with my wanting to use m43 mount in the first place.

With this little glass you can almost forget about all the other lens if you are on the run. 1. Good sharpness for zoom lens 2. Wide enough for most shots 3. Descent low light performance. Not the best but can handle low light situations. 4. Good image stabilization 5. Acceptable bokeh for portraits All of these makes it a perfect travel lens. It lacks only telephoto capability but its obvious that in this case it would loose all its advantages like sharpness. Highly recommended as the main and most versatile glass.

This lens illustrates beautifully the benefits of the Micro Four Thirds format. Its sharp, compact, and wellbuilt. Contrary to the shibboleth that MFT lenses cant produce images with nice bokeh, thats not true in my opinion. I suppose its a matter of your expectations and how much background blur you prefer, but the large aperture and design of this lens enables me to create very pleasing subject separation. I also appreciate that the lens does not extend when zooming or focusing, thus maintaining its compact size. Its not an inexpensive lens but in my opinion it provides excellent value.

I have Panasonic GX7 and multiple prime lenses 14mm, 20mm, 25mm, 35mm, 75mm. Also have 14 to 140 zoom and standard 1450 and 50150. This lens is awesome and has essentially taken over all my primes. Sharp and great aperture with constant f2.8. Weather sealed and rugged. Now I just need to upgrade to gx8 to match.

  68. blank

    Robert

This lens is OK at longer focal lengths but below 20 mm there is too much distortion. For my use in shooting real estate and wedding receptions, the pain involved in correcting this in post would only make sense if this were tack sharp or inexpensive. This is neither.

I bought this lens hoping the image stabilization would allow me to get steadier handheld video shots with my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 4K. As someone who is used to Canon IS lenses, I was unimpressed by the jerkiness of the image stabilization on this lens. Also, 1235mm is not a useful zoom range for my professional work, even on a MFT sensor. I have since returned this lens and my BMPCC4K.

A good lens, on the GH5s it is 35mm equivalent of 24 70, a nice range and a good lens to start with. Focus feels good and zoom is smooth, be aware that it will not hold focus through a zoom as it is not parfocal.

I loved the IQ of the prior version of this lens Mk I, but sold mine when I bought a different camera system. I decided to return to M43 recently, as I missed many things about it, so this was my choice for wide to normal in this format. The first version was great, this one is just a bit better. If you want a great wide to normal fast zoom for M43, this is my choice. Note I had the Oly 1240mm, and I like this one better. Its smaller, and balances better on the camera, as well as having built in OIS. IQ on both is excellent, so I am quite happy with this one over the Oly.

Such a good all around lens. Was using the Olympus 1250mm prior to this and had a decent copy. Was pretty happy with it. Purchased a Panasonic GX8 a bit ago and was having purple cast issues with the 1250mm, so I decided it was time to upgrade to the Panasonic 1235mm f2.8.. wow, it was a much bigger step up in clarity, sharpness and color rendition than I expected. It took my GX8 to another level on image quality. Superb lens Lens is a no brainer on Panasonic bodies.

This seems like a really goodquality lens. I havent had any problems with things like fisheye, vignetting, or other types of distortions you sometimes see with lowquality lenses. I use it mainly to video record lectures for my university students, and it works great for that.Ive seen some people on YouTube say that that they have replaced this with a lens that allows for a more open aperture so that they can do videos with a shallow depth of field, but this lens goes down to f2.8, and that seems to be all that I need.

I bought this lens about a month ago to use with the GH5. I had been reading about the duel stabilization that is achieved when paring a lens that has internal stabilization with the GH5 that has internal stabilization. But I was shocked when I actually experienced it. I can now shoot a lot more handheld shots and rely less on other forms of stabilization. As many other reviewers stated this lens stays on my camera. It is a little pricey but it is worth it.

I purchased this lens to compliment my kit adding a fast, short zoom capability. Despite being expensive, the lens does not disappoint. The f2.8 aperture, and sharpness at that opening, nearly eliminate the need for a flash indoors and what flash is used, can be much softer. With its 12mm wide angle capability and the 169 format option in the Panasonic cameras, this is also an awesome wide angle lens for landscape shots wide and sharp to the edge with little barrel distortion. The auto focus is nearly instantaneous and seems very accurate.

Id give this a 4.5 but Im leaning more towards 4 than 5 lately. This lens is a great size, easy to use and covers that essential 2470 FF focal length. Its awesome on the GH5 with the dual ISand very solid if youre looking for a little more stability on the GH5S. Ive been using the 12mm f1.4 and Voigtlander 17.5 f.95 more in this focal rangethey have more character in this focal range IMO, and are faster… but the versatility of the 1235 ii cant be denied and Im reluctant to part with it. I shot a docstyle feature using this lens about 75 of the time, but its not a goto for me like it was thena couple years back. High floor, low ceiling type of lens but a good one to have for MFT. The 35100 ii, on the other hand, is wildly underrated…

Having come from Canons 2470, I was unsure how a smaller version of what I was used to would work out Im used to bigger signifying better quality. But I am so pleased how it looks and works for video, autofocus is quick and most importantly for filming very silent.I film a lot of smaller animals like hummingbirds and insects, and its close minimum focus distance allows me to do some really creative shots without having to swap to my macro lens every time.Image stabilization is functional but not overwhelming, I use it with the GH5s so I assume when used with IBIS like the GH5 it would be more noticeable.

So I waited for months before finally deciding to buy this lens through reBuy. I had many other options. Some webshops sell it new for more or less the same price. Those sellers have much longer delivery times though and no local customer service to deal with in case of problems. Local shops sell it new for about 200 more. So I finally took the chance in spite of my skepsis about buying second hand through a webshop. Unfortunately the trust I placed on reBuy was not rewarded. On the contrary. Although the lens was delivered within three business days as promised, when I opened the box I immediately recognised the colour and markings of the much older previous version of this lens. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed and wanted to smack myself for not spending the extra money to just buy it new from my local camera store. So I called the local reBuy customer service, spoke to a friendly an polite gentleman and told him what had happened and suggested two possible solutions 1. Since the lens does seem to be in mint condition Im willing to accept it IF the difference in pricevalue is reimbursed to me as soon as possible. By my calculations that should at least be 200. 2. I send the lens back under the free postage return policy and the right lens is send out to me promptly. Suggestion 1 had to be taken under consideration and I was told I would receive an answer by email the same day. Unfortunately initial skepsis was ones again confirmed because I received no such email. Suggestion 2 was denied right away. I would first have to return the lens. Wait for reBuy to figure out what happened and pay me back the full amount after which I can reorder the lens hoping that this time Ill get what I payed for. Unfortunately in the meantime the ZEER GOED very good condition of the lens is now sold out so I cant even order it again. In conclusion I can only say that this is my first and probably my last experience with reBuy unless if something radical is done now to resolve this issue. As for the lens I can say that its a quality lens that looks to be in great condition. Unfortunately it is not the lens I ordered and was massively overcharged for the lens that I received. About the same amount that I was hoping to save by ordering from eBuy in the first place. Hopefully I will later be able to come back on my review with a positive outcome.

Bought this for video use on my GH5. Works well and I find the focal range excellent for most of what I do. Great in lower light but I bought the 25mm f1.7 for that. The lens is light and small m43 and the build quality seems quite good. The focus and zoom rings are rubberized which gives them a nice feel, but also allows them to get dirty. The image stabilization works well with the GH5 too. I do not do professional work but do use the camera and lens often and would recommend the lens.

  96. blank

    Evan

Paired with the BMPCC4K this lens yields pin sharp images, beautiful bokeh and great colours. Auto focus works fine. For manual focus moves I find the focus ring sometimes requires more rotation than can be achieved in one smooth movement, but this is a photography lens, not a cine lens so to be expected. Overall great lens.

I like the Panasonic 1235 lens a lot. It is much sharper than the 1442 kit lens, at the center and at the edges, and is an excellent upgrade for your standard lens. Plus the extra 2mm at the wide end is very useful 24mm equivalent is significantly wider than 28. I find its size and weight to be very acceptable for a lens with its specs very highquality optics and 2.8 constant aperture. Its build quality is also excellent. It is well worth its price.

Took this on a filming job in Southeast Asia for a realworld test…Good size weight for travel, ok color rendering, but mine wasnt very sharp. Glass was squeaky clean with no filter and still softer than my much cheaper Olympus zoom. Also, I use manual focus for video and didnt like how the focus ring feels when operating. Very, very touchy, not designed for manual use. I never miss focus and missed several times with this. Dealbreaker.

Spent many weeks testing it. While it appears to be very similar to the v1, there are important differences, the most significant of which is DUAL IS 2, which is far superior to the standard OIS in v1 or even the DUAL IS 1 if you upgrade to firmware 1.3. If you are a video maker, it will be worth the extra cost for that stabilization during both stills and video shooting. This is why you would purchase this lens. See Youtube for my GH5 IBIS tests. Most other aspects appear to be very similar to v1, v2 is a touch wider, v2 still shows significant lens flare I wouldnt recommend it for sunset shooting, I think the Olympus 1240 2.8 is better.

Ive had this lens for a bit now and precisely as the 3 star rating it OK. it does everything it needs to do. It focuses quite well.I think it works quite well for video so if thats your only thing Id give the lens a 4 star. Its sharpness if OK, not great. Its bokeh is less than OK, but satisfactory. I feel the lens is way overpriced for how it compares to similar glass I have purchased at this pricepoint. If you have a Panasonic body and primarily shoot vide Id go with this lens. Ive used the Olympus pro lens and I feel it is superior for still photos in most every aspect.

The dual stabilization when paired with the GH5 makes it the perfect walkaround lens for a wedding filmmaker. As a FF equivalent of 2470, its about as wide as I want ot get for a wedding and the mid range zom is perfect for capturing unexpected moments. I use a GH5 with this lens which goes on and off my Zhiyun Crane and then keep another GH5 on a strap with a prime lens on it. I suddenly had to find a power zoom lens for smooth zooming while recording video. I am very new to these types of cameras, know very little about lenses, and had very little time to figure something out. So I was very thankful that Panasonic now has a power zoom lens.I read as much as I could about adapters, and other lenses some which had better but I needed to know absolutely that what I got fit my GH4 would work immediately. It did was excellent very smooth zoom, easy, easy, easy Also the location of the zoom button is fairly convenient.I was shooting outside first in blazing sun, then an hour later in heavy cloud cover. perfect for my use in both. I needed to zoom in on something the size of a soda bottle on a post 250 yards away.Simple to use, and it worked right away. Major KUDDOS to BH for getting this delivered a full day before it was due. I paid for the two day it arrived early which gave me that 2nd day to get the video just in time.Because its a 45175 35mm Equivalent Focal Length 90 to 350mm it is not going to be as useful as my 14140 is, but I am so glad I got this because the power zoom also holds the focus much better on manual focus. Its not parfocal, but much better than what I was trying to do with the other lens. Also Thank you BH for having the filter with it. Ill update this if I have any changes when I have used it a little more Now though, I really need to find a power zoom that is in that 14140 range….

If youre hesitating on buying this lens, its probably because of the limited focal length. 35mm 70mm equivalent seems too short. At first, I felt that way too but now I like the lens. The lens is sharp at full aperture and stays sharp up through f11. It produces natural colors and decent contrast, although I may brighten some images, more as a matter of personal taste. I dont think that bokeh is exceptional but it is adequate for me. Focus is fast. I often use the lens for festivals and parades. I do not shoot video.Where this lens really shines, for me, is when I shoot Panasonics LMonochrome. Man, are the images crisp I get sharp edges and striking contrast, straight out of the camera. The images remind me of those wonderful 1930s Life Magazine images.I previously tried the Olympus 1240mm f2.8 pro lens and found I was getting soft images. Perhaps I had a bad copy of the lens, but the Panasonic 1235mm is superior for sharpness.

Really enjoyed taking this to Japan on my GX1 body. It is light enough to be dragged around the City all day but delivered some great results, especially in low light. My only complaint was the battery life on the GX1. I think the power OIS hits the battery hard, so I found I only got nearly a day of photography in and had to be very sure I switched off the camera, rather than waiting for it to go to standby. So carry a spare battery

Almost as good as primes with a very flexible zoom range from wide open to portrait. I wish the zoom action was similar to the companion 35100 zoom which does not elongate while the 1235 does.

This lens is on my G85 90 of the time. The 2.8 aperture makes it useful in a wide variety of lighting conditions, and its sharp enough that if you frame the picture correctly you can always crop in. Weather sealing is great paired with a sealed camera, I carry the camera in light rainsnow without worry. Focuses quickly and the dual IBIS makes it great in low light. Its not a true do it all lens but pair it with the 35100 and youre pretty much covered.

Its only having taken a couple of hundred photos with this lens that Im starting to realise that it was worth every penny of the price. Photos are sharp, and outoffocus blur bokeh if youre Japanese has a really nice quality that my other nonpro lenses dont produce. More than that, many photos have a deeper and indefinable quality to them which lens experts would no doubt be able to explain scientifically which makes them quite special. Ive already taken some photos which are so good that I cant believe Ive taken them The lens is well built and lovely to handle, and videos taken with it are stable and ultrasharp. The adage you get what you pay for is certainly true with this lens.

I only have one complain about this lens. It has nothing to do with image quality, sharpness or anything but simply build. For a 1,000 lens, it just feels cheap. It feels like a kit lens that comes on a Canon T3i. Honestly, it doesnt feel much different than a standard 1855 Canon kit lens, and thats a bummer. For a lens of this price, it should feel better. It should look more professional, and feel more professional. It feels cheap and plastic which is not what I was hoping for. Its for my first Panasonic lens so maybe they all feel this way, but its a bummer. Im used to Sony Zeiss metal lenses, and Canon L lenses which are super well made and look sexy. This lens, not so much.

I use it with shooting video on Lumix GH4. It is a very good lens in terms of build quality with some notices, image quality and optical stabilization. Sharp image makes it plenty for DMCGH4 detailed picture. Wide open f2.8 aperture allows to blur out background in pretty good amount. Also I dont see any chromatic aberration. Focusing and zoom rings are pretty smooth. It is no problem with manual focusing on this lens if you have some skill and camera focus peaking. For me first lens disadvantage is the thin rubber water resist ring on the back side. Strong rain drops are penetrate deep into camera. Second and not so important for me is nonparfocal lens. Very good choice for this price.

The versatility, usability and portability of this lens has made shooting documentaries and impromptu video on my BMPCC an absolute breeze. Its straightforward to achieve cinematic looks in a wide range of scenarios though even cheap primes with an extra fstop or two can be superior, while also enabling a strong and crisp image in the field on the fly. The image stabilization is on point and works wonders on handheld and moving shots. If youre only going to buy one lens for film or photography on MFT, I would 100 recommend this one.

The Lumix 1235 is a top quality optic that delivers excellent image quality even wide open. Sharpness and microcontrast are excellent giving shots a certain clarity and depth that only the best lenses deliver. Its significantly better than any of the kit zooms and so it should be at the price. I find it excellent for general purpose use such as for events, landscapes, people and walkaround. Unless youre into specialised requirements such as dramatic perspectives from very wideangle lenses or long lenses for sports or nature, then the 1235 might be the only lens you need. In summary, if youre after a very high quality standard zoom then the 1235 will fit the bill perfectly but be prepared to dig deep into your pockets

First off, I want to clarify that I purchased this lens for videography purposes, not for photography. My initial outofbox observations were that the kit was packaged nicely, with a portable lens sleeve included. The lens itself has a sturdy, light build quality. I am using this lens with the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4k. Considering this camera does not have image stabilization, I was eager to see how the IS in the lens compensated. It handles minor handheld shake quite well, and I would recommend this lens if you have a cinema camera without IS. Image quality out of the lens is superb, and ultra sharp. I am blown away by every shot that comes out of this lens. However, my only complaint with the lens is that it has very noticeable vignetting when at its shortest focal length of 12mm. To eliminate this, Ive had to shoot at 1314mm. I hoped this wouldnt be an issue, especially considering the price of the lens. But other than this issue, its a wonderful lens to work with. Id recommend this lens if you are interested in any form of professional videography or perhaps if you shoot landscape photography.

its just money the clarity is great and the build quality is awesome i would totally recommend the lens i have some pics taken with this lens on a gx85 lumix body its great in low light probably just a step below the fixed focal length lenses only because of the 2.8 fstop is the lowest it will go where as my 25mm lumix lens will go down to 1.8 f stop and this is only for low light shooting

Used with a Black Magic Pocket Cinema Camera and an SLR Magic Anamorphot the power stabiliser works on the BMPCC as does focus although slow and Iris control and it manages to focus through the adaptor perfectly well. Very crisp image, largely plastic but pretty well made may try it out on a gimbal. This doesnt have a manual aperture ring, and the focus ring is an infinity type so no external focus markings. Works brilliantly on the Lumix GM1 which gives that older camera a little more life.

I shot with the original 1235mmf2.8 zoom on my Panasonic camera since it first came out. I have several prime lenses that I use, but the 1235 is the one youd most likely find on my camera at any given time. I have always been impressed with the versatility and image quality of the original lens. Ive finally upgraded to version II because I now have a Panasonic camera body that can use the dual image stabilization. I have yet to find a reason to change my high opinion of this lens.

Great quality for its size and purpose. A little too expensive, but thats what you pay for a 1235 mm with fixed 2.8. its distorted on 12mmm..get better from 15mm…A must have if your need quality in a micro 4 3 zoom lens.

For the micro 43s system this is a exceptional lens. Very nice for low light shots. Very nice image quality across the board. Sharp , contrasty, and very nice color. The only drawback the DOF is more comperable to 5.6 on a 35mm sensor. This lens does produce very nice bokeh. I just wish they would have made it a f2.0. But then it would have cost even more.If you want a a really nice street Xoom, and dont mind the price, this is a winner.

In Norway this lens would be 2x as much..Buying from this Japanese brand, I couldnt be more happy. Everything is working perfectly and the image quality is amazing. As I saw the image quality, I understood that I wouldnt need a new camera at all Thank you guys

The lens is super portable which is the obvious advantage of a micro four thirds. The lens feels high quality with some weight to it. A lot of panasonic lenses have a moving element with the IS so the noise you might here when moving it around off of the camera is completely normal as per panasonic. This is the best lens to choose if you had to choose one. It will fit a wide variety of needs.

Everything you read about this lens and its 35100mm f2.8 companion are true. Very sharp focus, excellent lens. This one was my first lens purchase for my new GH5 since it goes from wide 12mm to short zoom 35mm, right through the standard 25mm 50mm, 35mm equivalent. So once you buy this, then you will say I need that 35100mm to complete the set since 3x zoom, for either of these lenses, really isnt much. You are trading off large zoom capability for lens quality and being f2.8 fast low light. Then your next lens will be wow, even wider would be nice, the olympus 714mm F2.8 which ive also bought. If you want a longer zoom, but higher f, consider the 14140 10x. Ive bought that too as a travel allinone lens.

This is a superb walk around wide angle lens. Fantastically sharp images with great color. Its a bit heavier bulkier than the standard zoom, but worth it.

Sharp lens with impressive OIS. Tactile feel, durable design. Nice smooth rings. Only negative thing is the continual f2.8 aperture does flicker a bit when zooming. I dont think this will be a problem for me personally.

This lenses are great whit very good sharpness allover the entire zoom range. Fixed aperture is also good as build quality. A must lenses to all lumix cameras. Recomend

O.I.S f2.8 two good things to have on a lens. Versatile indoor and outdoor. Add a UVNDCPL filter and youre set. The lens has a nice weight to it not heavy and not light, just right.

I would definitely recommend this lens. Kinda expensive, but nice to have the f2.8. Balance is good with G85 and zhiyun crane for smooth shoots.

If you have a Panasonic camera or other MFT camera system, this is a great lens to have at a good price. With an aperture of 2.8, you get plenty of light hitting that sensor whether you are at 12 or 35 mm and everywhere in between. Want some of that beautiful bokeh Then 2.8 is a great place to start. If you are just starting out with photography or videography and dont know what Im talking about…get this lens. You will take great shots with this lens thanks to the amount of light it lets in and your backgrounds will be blurry to give you subject that professional pop you are looking for. It is also lightweight and has optical image stabilization. Enjoy

What a perfect zoom for the GX85 I find it balances well and just takes very lovely looking pictures. I am not just talking about the sharpness which is great across all focal lengths but the way the pcitures are rendered. In spite of many people comparing 1232 kit lens favorably with this lens, I feel that there is just no comparison, both in the quality of the lens as well as the character of the pictures taken.

To everyone that thinks this is actually a 2.8 aperture lens, it is not. When you put this lens on your Panasonic micro four thirds camera, everything doubles. What that means is the 1235 focal length becomes 2470 in 35mm terms. BH even says that in the description. What they do not say is that the 2.8 aperture that sounds appealing becomes a whopping 5.6 in 35mm terms. That shallow depth you were looking for just got eliminated. There is very little depth when shooting at 5.6 so if that is something you are hoping for in this camera you should look somewhere else. I have shot over 200 weddings with this lens and when I got a lens that had an aperture of 1.2 which became 2.4 after the crop…..the image is unbelievably better. While this lens can zoom yes, 900 for this lens at 5.6….there are better options. Check out the Olympus 1.2 25mm 50mm 2.4 aperture lens on this camera. No you cannot zoom with it but if you are really going for quality of image, forget zooming.

Sure it has been in production Series I for almiost ten years. Yet the price at B and H has actually decreased since my first sample.A complex lens that covers the most typical range of fixed lenses for the micro four thirds sensor. It is moderate size and weight and the construction is non pareil. Many elements work to make it zoom smoothly. it also has image Lens stabilization where that helps. Paired with the 35100 one has a match made in heaven…well close. The F 2,8 suits my needs….a great balance of aperture and size and cost. I owned the Series One and used and used it until it failed in combat so to speak….out of warranty I opted for the Series I which by the way has a tigher fitting petal lens hood. I just love this optic, and use it so very often as first choice…yes I have some specialty mcro single FL lenses. But zooms are the way to go for this user. Also did I say you get a three year total warranty….nice to know…

the optics are great but when used on blackmagic pocket cinema 4k with exposure control set to iris shutter, pointing the camera up and down causes very noticable sounds from the blades in this lens.

One of the best run and gun, stock lens This thing slays when it comes to shooting on the low budget shoots My only complaint is the focus wheel doesnt have hard stops Besides that great lens

Unfortunately. Many people like Brian pretend to be experts. Sorry, but you are very, Very, VERY wrong. The multiplication factor is in reference to how the chip coverage will cause an increase in apparent viewing image size. It has NOTHING TO DO WITH APERTUREAs to the lens. It is of the same range as Canons LSeries lenses. Not quite as good BUT totally fine for Video usage. Using all Mirrorless cameras for my small stuff. I prefer using my full Pro Video Cine Cameras for bigger projects. This lens is a must because it is one of the few to actually have I.S. Only lens wider than this is the Tamron 1024. Either case you get GREAT smooth moves with a Gimbal. Use a Crane myself and wide lenses with I.S. make for a FANTASTIC image

This lens compliments the Panasonic GH series quite well. I shoot video with the Panasonic Lumix GH3 and this 1225mm lens is a great lens to own. Its compact in size and has a very durable build to it. Both the zoom and focus rings are extremely smooth. With a built in OIS image stabilizer, handheld shooting delivers an incredible steady shot within reason of course. I discovered the secret ingredient to achieving such a clean and crisp image with this lens paired with the GH3 is as follows With good to excellent lighting In Video Mode 1. Set the camera GH3 to High iDynamic and High iResolution 2. Set the image profile to Standard using 5 contrast, 2 sharpness, 0 saturation, 5 noise reduction 3. Use a f2.8 aperture 4. Use aperture priority in menu selection camera will auto set shutter speed and ISO in good lighting the auto ISO settings work great. I typically shoot 24p 72Mbps ALLINTRA MOV But I suggest you use your discretion as to the Recording Quality that appeals to you best for your needs. Please note that these settings work best when shooting people at a close to reasonable distance. These settings yield a very sharpcrisp image and shooting too far away from the subject will lead to unwanted aliasing and moire effects. If you are looking for a less sharpened image, i suggest not using the High iDyanmic High iResolution settings. Or, use color grading techniques that will soften the image in post production if you use the High settings. All in all, this lens is great for videos and photos. I recommend you own this lens if you have a GH series camera.

Since I bought this lens I have really fell in love with it as a great all around lens. It takes great stills but I am a videographer and I use it 98 of the time on my Panasonic GH5 and GH5S for video and love it.

This has fast become my go to lens as it is so versatile. It has a great 2470mm equivalent focal length range with a constant f2.8 aperture. This allows for a consistent performance throughout the entire zoom range. It provides more control over depth of field and greatly helps when working in difficult lighting conditions.

I am using this for video on a GH5 and I get a jitter wigglewobble across all combinations of stabilization, even full off. Noticed it one day while zoomed in for focus and then ran some tests. My other native lens 42.5 f1.7 does not display any of these symptoms Could be defective

This is my go to Panasonic lens for general use on my Panasonic bodies. The focal length equiv. to 2470 is a great range for a zoom lens and the constant f2.8 is great for all kinds of lighting conditions. The Power OIS is a godsend as well for videos. If I have to take one lens with me on a trip, this would be the one.

As expected with a Leica lens, the 1235 lumix II is incredibly sharp. Having this focal length coverage 2470 at such a small compact size is amazing. Easily became my go to lens especially when traveling.

I so want to love this lens. Overall, I think the image quality is exceptional. The price is way too inflated by Panasonic, but it is nice to have a lens that is made to work with the GH5s. That said, coming from the world of Canon LSeries lenses, I am having a rough time with the fact that the focus and zoom spin the opposite direction of Canon. Nikon users wouldnt have this same issue, but there ya go. One interesting thing about this lens that I think I really do love, is the lens flare. The lens flare comes into the frame like rays of light with colorful elements. Really looks like a special effect filter. Im sure it is based on a negative facet of the construction and lack of proper coatings, but I think it is really beautiful. The biggest negative to me is that this lens is difficult to accurately focus manually. For some reason, the focus peaking monitor Small HD has a difficult time accurately highlighting the areas that are in focus. So I have gotten back to the edit a couple of times and found out of focus footage. It could be that I need to learn the nuances of working with this lens. Overall, this seems to be a really good lens, albeit a bit too expensive. There is no way a MFT lens should be as expensive as an LSeries Canon lens.
