I wanted this lens for travel and also to take photographs of a new grandkid. The skin tones and sharpness of this lens is equal to any of the Canon Lseries lenses I own. It rivals the Canon 85mm 1.2 at half the weight. The build quality is excellent. I realize that it is more expensive than other Olympus lenses however, you will see a marked difference in quality. Realize that this lens is a f2.8 throughout the zoom range. Its low light capability is incredible. The other zoom lenses are f4.5 to 5.6…this will make a difference in a low light situation. If you like a shallow depth of field, this is the lens for you.

I bought this lens to use with the new BMPCC 4K because I was tired of trying to make other lenses work with adapters. Mounts perfectly. Operates well. The image looks really good. Just wish it had the optical stabilization, oh well. I recommend it.

Easy to get clear shots ,as the ability to quickly change to manual focus allows fine tuning.Nicely balances the camera and helps with overall handling.A nice zoom range that focuses closely for almost macro capability. This is our go tolens.

This is my goto lens for Alaska and Caribbean scenery as well as general photography. The weatherproofing has survived many days in the rain and cold. Image stabilization produces reliable exposures even from moving trains and boats. This lens works well with my Olympus OMD EM1 MKIII and MX1 cameras. I strongly recommend this lens for general photography that does not require a telephoto lens.

I am a long time Canon shooter, and my favorite lens is theEF 70200mm f2.8L IS II USM. This Olympus lens, while it does not cover the same range is in exactly the same league when it comes to quality photos. I probably could not tell the difference between shots with either glass. The construction is excellent rock solid, and weather proof. However, the Canon lens attached to my full frame 5D camera is a beast it is awkward, heavy and highly visible. The Olympus lens is extremely portable, light weight, and takes awesome pictures. I have it on the Olympus OMD E M10. A perfect marriage of camera and glass.I strongly recommend both.

Loving this lens so far. A bit bulkier than the prime lenses I would normally carry but worth it to not need to swap all the time. Great quality and solid.

This lens is sharp at all fstops, its fast throughout the zoom range and its very well made. I really like the way you can put it in MFAF by sliding the focus ring back and forth. Even the lens shade is easy to put on and take off. Its weather resistant and thats my only beef with it. The oring at the lens mount makes it a minor struggle to twist the lens onoff. Theres no good place to grab the lens to do that. Focus is fast and silent.

It takes excellent photos. However, Ive only had it a few weeks my rating could go up or down as I begin to use it more frequently. It is certainly a solid feeling lens the most solid, heavy lens that I own.

I have looked everywhere for a pro olympus lens. I finally found a good deal. Even without the 20 discount, this lens was cheaper than I could get at JB Hifi. The lens was posted from Sydney to Mackay, yet I had it in my hands 24 hours later. Brilliant.

Bigger and heavier than the standard kit lens. But it is weather sealed and far sharper than the kit lens and on the OMD EM1II it feels right.

I purchased the M. Zuiko Digital ED 1240mm f2.8 PRO lens along with the OMD EM1 from BH a while back to replaceupdate from my Nikon D80. At the time of my purchase, the OMD EM1 does not come with a kit lens. I decided on this lens because I think its a most flexible and quality lens to begin the switch from DSLR to mirrorless. After shooting with it for a while, I am extremely happy with the decision. The Zuiko 1240mm f2.8 PRO is the equivalent of a 2470mm f2.8 full frame 2480mm to be exact. It probably has the biggest diameter of all the M. Zuiko lenses. It looks quite impressive and professional with the EM1. The built is quality and solid. The lens hood DOES come with the lens and it is reversible. If you carry your camera with a BlackRapid type of a strap i.e. to your side, be careful to keep the lens hood release button away from your side to avoid accidently releasing the hood. The lens does not have IS but its OK for me since my EM1 does have 5axis stabilization. The zoom range and the wide angle on the 1240mm f2.8 PRO are very user friendly. It allows you to take pictures at different distances and angles without you have to move around all the time to fit the subject into the frame because sometimes you dont have that option. The f2.8 aperture means that the focus is very fast and it can handle the indoor photography very well. The only time that I have problem with indoor photography using this lens was taking picture of people dancing at a wedding reception. People were moving fast and the room was quite dim. Overall, the pictures are very sharp unless you compare them to the M. Zuiko 75mm f1.8, which is ridiculously sharp and fast. I recently wrote a review on the 75mm f1.8 and I gave it a fourstar, instead of the fivestar that Im giving the 1240mm f2.8 PRO. I really believe that the 1240mm f2.8 would give you the BEST bang for your buck because it is so flexible. Other lens could be sharper and faster but they are limited to a certain shooting occasion. The 1240mm f2.8 PRO can handle all of the occasions that you encounter with a high degree of success. It will end up staying on your camera all the time. It is a little pricey but it is worth it. You will NOT disappointed with this lens. I would HIGHLY recommend this lens to be the FIRST lens in everybody MFT lens collection.

I typically use this lens for landscape and portait and event shooting. First and foremost this lens is built like you only wish most pro lenses would be. Everything that moves moves with butter like precision. Very tight build but no binding up whatsoever. No play and no noises. Through its complete extension it is smooth as can be. With that said make NO mistake. This lens is one very sharp tool. Super sharp wide open throughout all but the extreme corners which snap into sharpness by f4. The color rendition of this lens is without compromise. NO flare detected and no CA either. It definitely is worth the high asking price. Ive had pro L Canon as well as Nikons and they were considerably more expensive. You NEED to have this lens if you have a EM1 that is for sure.

This lens has a good range, being the equivalent of one of the Nikon Trinity lenses, the Nikkor 2470 f2.8. It is, however, way more compact than the Nikkor. The build quality is superb and it complements my EM1 very nicely. I am an architect and avid photographer, shooting a wide range of subjects such as architecture, portraits, plant studies, objects, landscapes, etc. Ive only have the lens for about a week but am very impressed by and happy with it.

Based on 2 weeks use, this lens is nicely built and seems durable. The lens shade mounts quickly and securely. Photos throughout the zoom range are uniformly sharp. I have just transitioned from a professional Nikon cameralens set that I did not use because it was too big and heavy. This new Olympus equipment is as good or better quality, plus it is much smaller and lighter than the Nikon gear. I am very pleased with this equipment.

This is my favoutite lens for my Olympus OMD EM10. It is super fast, and the focus is always tack sharp. The lens is well made and a good weight for its size. It is easy to use, both in fully automatic mode, and as a manual focusing lens. I like the fact that it is dustproof, splashproof, and freezeproof as I use my cameras through a range of weather and coditions.

I have had this lens for about two months now and I am extremely happy with it. Combined with the Olympus EM5II, it produces extremely sharp images. Focus speed is amazing compared to my old Nikon D7000 with the kit lens. Construction is top notch as well, with a solid feel and very smooth operation of focus and zoom dials. The only disadvantage that I see is the size. It is large for a 43 lens and sort of negates the size advantage that the Micro 43 system provides.

I bought this to use with my Lumix GX7 and have been nothing but impressed with the results. The images it generates are vivid, crisp, and dynamic. The resolution increase over the stock panasonic 1442 is dramatic and that is a nice lens. The extra wide angle reach is a bonus and the 40mm long end is just about perfect. My favorite feature is the pull back ring for switching from auto focus to manual focus, which is very handy when using this for closeupmacro photography something this lens is also very useful for. I havent had a need to remove this lens from the GX7 since I first mounted it in the Fall and will likely not switch anytime soon. A truly great lens

Sharp at every setting. Replaces 2 or 3 primes and saves money and hustle of changing lenses. Not quite a macro lens but still has incredible close focus capability. Perhaps 23 inches. 58cm On the downside it is still a bit bigger and heavier the Id like. Oh well … nothing is perfect.

Ive been shooting M43 for a while now and have a pretty decent kit. I like to get a new lens about once a year and this year I splurged on the 1240 Pro lens. Im so glad I did. I have almost never used my kit lenses because of the slow speed and barrel distortion. I shoot some of the primes like the 25 PL abut often miss having a bit of zoom. This lens really covers the range well. Its bright and tack sharp. It is so well built its heavy for m43 glass, but it feels so good on the camera, the focus ring has such a smooth action. The hood that is included finally Olympus is substantial and locks in place. I cant wait for the next round of pro series lenses from Olympus

I have had this lens for about three weeks and have shot probably around 500 photos with it. Im using it on a OMD EM10. It looks a little large on the camera and is heavier than the 1442 kit lens that came with the camera, but is not awkward to use. It is extremely sharp wide open across the entire frame. The color and definition are outstanding. Im primarily a user of Canon DSLR gear and have a 6D with the Canon EF 2470 f2.8L II lens. The Olympus lens is every bit as high quality as the Canon lens for less than half the price. The build is first rate. It looks and feels like a very high quality item. The image quality is stunningly good. When I saw the first shots from this lens I was absolutely amazed at the quality. I cant recommend it highly enough.

I used the lens with a BlackMagic Pocket Cinema Camera to shoot documentary style footage mainly indoors. I found the zoom range to be idea for this kind of work. The build quality is excellent. The focus holds well throughout the zoom range. When the lens is fully open and zoomed out, the bokeh is decent. Not as dramatic as Ive come to enjoy with the EF L glass weve shot on.

I purchased the Olympus 1240mm f2.8 M.ZUIKO as a complement to my PEN F which I have now been using for about one year. The 17mm kit lens and the PEN F is a fantastic combination but a bit limiting. The 1240mm looked like an ideal choice providing the so useful equivalent of 2480mm in full frame terms and a good maximum aperture of f2.8 throughout. It certainly hasnt disappointed.I was concerned that it might be a little front heavy on the PEN F body which, to a degree it is, but you soon get used to that and there is no need to worry on that score at all. It is silky smooth in operation, the autofocus is accurate and very quick and you can also disengage the clutch to quickly change to manual focus if you feel the need. It also comes with a very well made plastic lens hood which is easy to both attach and remove and locks in position with a most satisfying click. There is some distortion evident at the wide angle end and in particular at wider apertures but if shooting in RAW easily corrected in post processing a profile exist for this lens in my processing software of choice, Capture One.This is not a cheap lens but as is usually the case you get what you pay for and as soon as you take it out of the box and handle it for the first time you realise that this is a superb and well engineered lens that just has that indefinable quality feel to it. It has already become my standard lens and all I can say is it delivers stunning results. Such a contrast in both size and weight carrying the PEN F plus this lens around compared with my full frame Nikon and 2470 lensThoroughly recommended.

I bought this lens primarily for indoor use. It is great It is amazing outside as well, of course. Solid build. I also like manual focus clutch on the focus ring. It doesnt beat the quality of my 45mm f1.8 prime, but much more versatile.

I am an a photography enthusiast that learns the art by making poor pictures and finding out why. I own an Olympus OMD M10 with kit lenses for quality shooting and a Leica C for the camera you always have with you. In good light both work well. In low light, neither works well with long exposures and high ISO settings on a tripod that give fuzzy pictures at about 13 sec exposures. That is why I just invested for good glass. After about 50 pictures I am amazed at the picture improvement in sharpness and color witht the 1240 F2.8 PRO lens. MY only complaint is the size and weight of the well made lens. But I guess it is true science that you just cant avoid the weight if you really want pro results. While the 43 appraoch is still lighter and smaller, it is still bulky and heavy, but I love the pictures

Summary read on for the gory blathering I have several years experience with Canon L glass I have two other consumerprosumer grade Micro 43 zooms in the same focal length range This lens meets my every expectation of a Canon L pro grade lens And Im getting significantly better results I wish it had a 1.2 wide aperture I wish it were lighter I love it and highly recommend it. read the full review below to see why I personally do not count these against the lens. The wonderful good ol days… As a past user of Canon L glass, I finally got tired of lugging the weight around and bought the first Micro 43 camera and a couple of basic lenses. Since that time, Ive watched the progression of the line, anticipating the introduction of professional grade lenses. And then this lens was introduced. I still have my first two walk around zooms Panasonic 1445 and Olympus 1250, but finally made the leap to this lens as part of a deal including the OMD EM1 body. The new kid on the block… This lens feels like a pro lens in every way. The zoom ring is smooth and consistent. The weight and build exude toughness that encourages me to use it without worrying about it getting knocked about. It also has a good balance to it. The included lens hood, manual focus clutch, constant aperture, and the nicest front lens cap Ive seen add to the package. And then there is the performance. Again, with my experience using Canon L glass, I am totally pleased with the performance of this lens. As so many have said, so many times before, Ill say it again it focuses quietly, quickly, and accurately. I am getting a much higher frequency of sharp pictures with this zoom than with my other zooms of similar focal length. I have only used this lens with my new OMD EM1 body, but the closest success rate Ive gotten on my OMD EM5 has been with the Olympus 45mm 1.8. I only have myself to blame for poor shots. If wishes were fishes… I wish it had a 1.2 aperture. However, I have discovered that most of my photos have too narrow a depth of field. So, almost all of the time, I would be stopping down to 2.8 or more anyway. Im a geek it would be so cool. I wish it were lighter thats why I got into the Micro 43 line, right Oh yeah, I wrote all this stuff about having a lens built like a tank… There is something about things built with appropriate weight, and this lens feels that way. Having lugged the Canon 1785 around for a few years, I have no regrets. Conclusion… If you need a walk around zoom, and can afford it, I highly recommend it.

What a sharp lens And so very small compared to my big full frame set up with the equivalent lens. Not many drawbacks on this lens except one. The manual focus clutch mechanism gets knocked in and out of operation when putting it in and out of my camera bag. No big deal but one must double check if you want auto focus right out of the bag for a quick shot.

I bought the 1240 when my 1260 43 lens started the dreaded clicking it started sticking sometimes and it was really annoying to get improper exposures on such a nice system. This lens has been a joy its very sharp throughout the aperture range, and focuses quite quickly and surely. Also, being able to use ALL the focusing points is really nice. The renditions from this lens are sharp, with a very nice bokeh at larger apertures and close distances. The size is good and just using it, you are seduced by the nice, smooth operation and just enough heft. Using the EM1, many of the photos I took benefited only slightly by sharpening they were already incredibly sharp. Its a more consistent performer for me in the focus department than the 1260, which occasionally missed focus although I still loved the image quality. Now if it was just a 1260 instead of maxing at 40

If you dont like changing lenses and are in a wet or dusty situation, then this is the lens that can replace several prime lenses. I have all the primes….the 12. The 15 Pany , the 25mm .095 manual focus and the Oly 17 1.8 plus the 45mm Olympus. All are great lenses. But when I travel or am at, say a political rally, then this lens is the lens that stays on my Olympus EM5 MKII most of the time. Carrying around several lenses at public meetings is a real pain. Yeah, the 1240 is larger than most primes, but not having a pocket full of primes to worry about is worth the extra size that the 1240 brings. It is weather sealed and so is the Olympus EM5 MKII so that combination makes this a very useful lenscamera combination for most weather conditions. Being a micro 43 lens, its 35mm equivalent is 2480….very useful for street shooting but just a bit much for real estate work. A better option for that is the 714 pro lens. The 1240 is F2.8….not as quick as many primes but still useful for about 90 of my shooting needs. The image quality of this lens is not as sharp as the 45mm or the 75mm Olympus, but it is very close. Color is fantastic and auto focus is super quick. Make sure you get the lens firmware update from Olympus. No CA that I can see. The Olympus 1240 is the lens that is on my camera the most. I still have my primes but they just sit on the shelve waiting for really low light conditions which is not always the case for me. I highly recommend this lens.

I bought the M. Zuiko f2.8 PRO lens for my new Olympus OMD eM1 camera and couldnt be more impressed with it. In my Digital Photography class, the instructor is also impressed, as are the other students. Its not just good its GREAT. Easy to use, superb quality, a fine longlasting investment at a very decent price. Getting kudos already about my photos, which are portrait, travel, landscape. Am doing my own work now for marketing collateral and as good as anything weve had before. My only complaint I had to wait 3 weeks after I received my camera, because it was backordered. Cant wait for the upcoming 40150MM this year, too

Completely weather proove, very good build quality, excelent glass inside with very quick focusing. The size is maybe a bit big for the mft format that always lean to be smaller form factor, but at f2.8 that is expected.

This is a great standard zoom with good speed and excellent sharpness. Solid build and reasonable balance on a PenF. Just be forewarned that this a heavy lens for a micro four thirds camera. Dont expect tons of bokeh at f2.8, either.

Really outstanding lens. Sharp, plenty fast enough,Its probably my largest micro 43 lens, but not so big as to be a burden carrying it around all day.If I would change anything, Id want just another 10mm on the ling end, but that would make it bigger or slower.Highly recommended.

I purchased this zoom after 612 years of using primes on my various m43 bodies. I wanted a convenient highquality lens for my Mexico trip, which I am enjoying as I write this. As I load my images onto my computer, I cannot believe a zoom can be this good. Wow Fitted to my Pen F with grip, this is as good as it gets for an easytopack travel kit for a demanding photographer. I can already see that my prime lenses Im keeping them all will quickly become speciality items. This 1240mm f2.8 is amazing.

I guess I mustve got a bad or damaged copy, but this 1240 just doesnt cut it. Its simply not as sharp at any aperture as my old 43s 1454 II I acknowledge that I probably have an exceptionally good copy of that lens, and a very poor copy of this one. However, lens variation has always been a thing photographers have had to deal with. Its a shame, as the fit and finish on this lens is spectacular the body feels refined and looks amazing paired with my EM1 II. The manual focus clutch is a lovely little addition. Autofocus speed is faster than my 1454, but not by much. I dont shoot actionsports so CAF and SAF performance are functionally identical across these two lenses for me. Video autofocus with the 1240 is fantastic with the latest firmware update for the EM1 II.

Recently got this lens and I do see noticeable improvement over the kit lens. Focus is quick, controls are nice, build is solid. I have it on my EP3 and find it comfortable to hold, although it is big enough to obstruct the tiny builtin flash. And also if I pay premium price for the premium grade lens from the premium Japanese brand I dont expect it to be made in China.

Nice lens. solid build. Very quite fast sharp focus. Great for video and photo. BUT…..had for less than 2 years and the front element seems to be pitting on the inside. The outside of the lens is intact. The lens has less than 500 shots on it. Cant explain the pitting. You can see the spots on the inside of the lens. They do not seem to affect the pictures not as of now at least. I keep finding more of them too. Did not contact Olympus yet. I have most of the olympus M Zuiko Primes and this lens in addition to all the other F2.8 zooms. This the only one that has this problem so far. In addition to Olympus I have all the Nikon G primes up to the 400mm f2.8 G and most of the G f2.8 zooms. I have never had such a problem before. Because of that and to attract attention to the problem I will give it a 1 star. If I find a solution or explanation will update.

Im a professional cinematographerphotographer so I bought a GH4 to have 4k footage and high res photographs. I used a handful of lenses before getting this lens, mft, canon L, sony G series and this is hands down the finest lens I have ever used. Lightning fast AF, beautiful bokeh, built like a tank, supremely sharp, awesome colors and is 2480 f2.8 lens. You want to unleash the true beauty and power of the gh4, buy this lens. As long as I have a mft system I will never sell this lens.

The range of 1240 or 1260 in MFT terms is a great all rounder lens. This OM 1240 delivers great results for me. It is a little heavier than I had expected but it is robustly made and dust and splash proof. Having looked at many reviews, I chose this lens ahead of rivals. I love the 12mm 35mm 24mm wide angle, for me a decider. I find 14mm 35mm 28mm not quite wide enough for GP use. And the 40mm 80mm in 35mm terms only a tad short of my favorite 45mm 90mm in 35mm for portrait use. Overall it was my choice and I would, after much use, recommend it highly.

Im moving from Nikon APSC cameras to Micro 43s, because of the promising lens lineup and reduced weight. This lens does not disappoint It produces beautiful blurred backgrounds and is very sharp wide open. Its a worthy successor to my Nikon 2470 f2.8. As a bonus, it works very nicely with my Nikon 62mm closeup attachments. Videos look great, with nicely blurred backgrounds.

This is the sharpest zoom lens I own. However, I just started using it without reading the enclosed instructions, and missed the existence of the neat, discreet manualauto focus switch ring. It is well designed, easy to use, and invisible to overeager new owners. I enjoy using manual focus with this lens, now that I know how to quickly turn it on and off. Its great to have constant aperture throughout the zoom range.

Just recieved the lens and went out and shot. Love what I have seen. The lens has a great feel, very balanced with the camera, and fits my hand perfect. The first shots I played with have been extremely sharp. Love the focus speed of the lens with camera. I traded my full size Canon 28 L series lens for Olympus and glad I did. The only thing I find a little problem is lens cap does not snap to lens as tight as I would like. I would recommend this lens.

It is big and heavy and operates buttery smooth. If you are looking for image quality close to the primes in this range, but would rather have weather sealing then this lens will get you closer to anything else on an Olympus camera. Also I feel the implementation of the manual focus ring on this camera is better then all the past attempts. The only real down sides I can see are the size and the lack of even wider aperture, if you can count those really, as their is no way to currently build optics to outperform what you get with this zoom. This was the perfect pairing to my EM1 and will defiantly be a permanent piece to my MFT kit from now on.

Im was confused about Olympus versus Panasonic lenses. But… this 1240mm f2.8 PRO is just Amazing. The lens body is like a rock, with fine detail and robust shape, looks like nothing can happen to that piece of glass. Image is clear, sharp and the focus is just spot on. Definitely no way to go for a Panasonic lens. The focus ring it can be set for manual focus and this is a big step for Olympus as a great engineering development. I know it doesnt have IS but you can use your camera IBIS. I paired this lens with Panasonic G9 and the things cant go better than that. If you are struggling to find a good zoom lens, dont hesitate to grab this Olympus 1240mm PRO. Good luck

This lens is astounding. Its sharp wide open throughout its range and built like a tank. As good as the legendary Nikkor 2470mm but at nearly half the cost and a much more manageable size and weight. The killer feature of this lens is also that its practically a macro lens with such a close focus distance. It wont replace a dedicated macro lens but it might be all any casual macro shooter ever needs.

I really love the Olympus 1240mm f2.8 PRO lens. I picked it up at an incredible price from BH and it has proved that its worth the money. I took it out for sunset at a local wildlife refuge and I was happy with the quality of the photos at 12mm and 14mm, stopped down to f5.6. Really nice. I also took it out to the Chinese Lantern Festival where it performed wonderfully. I got some great and sharp shots of the lanterns at night, handheld. Highly recommend this lens. I have it paired with the OMDEM1 which I also purchased from BH, at a different time. I really like the lighter combo compared to my Canon 7D and 6D. Just get it

I am an enthusiast and own the OMD EM 5 along with Nikon 610 and Pentax K3. The OMD EM 5 is my favorite for travel. This Lens is super fast, super sharp and super silent. Tough build and excellent quality. It sure deserves the Pro designation. I have the F2.8 Nikon Zooms and the F1.4 Nikon Primes…this Lens is not any less on quality. If anything it might be better on usability and functionality, be it the weather resistant aspect of it or the fraction of the weight compared to the full frames I own. Outside a studio, this one is the winner.

I started out with the Nikon D7000 and it was a great camera. But as I am getting older I wanted to go lighter. So I first purchased the Olympus EM10 and it was a good starter camera for me in the M43 world. I then upgraded to the Olympus EM5 Mark II and I wanted to get a better walk around lens then my Olympus 1250. I have been eye balling this lens for a long time and when it got down to a price I could afford I snatched it up It is sharp as a tack and fits like a glove with my EM5. I have the 17mm prime, 25mm prime and the 60mm macro lenses. I also have the kit 40150 but since I am not a long lens shooter it suffices for my needs. I do still have uses for my primes but this lens stays on my camera 90 of the time.

Exactly what we needed in a tight space. A lot more throw that youd think for the sensor size. Image is sharp and clean. Focus rings are also pretty smooth with not a lot of tension.

As has been noted before, this lens performs extremely well. My copy, at least, gives excellent image quality wide open at all focal lengths with virtually no chromatic abberation at 18X24 print size, no flare shooting backlit objects, nearly undetectable distortion at all focal lengths, vignetting is slight only at wider angle settings and only in the corners wide open. It balances well on my Panasonic GX8 and has very solid and attractive construction. The versatility makes it the lens I use for 90 of my shots. Bokeh is attractive, both near and far. Manual focus works a treat and is very handy for critical work. And it looks great on the GX8.

…it should be this one. It is a ProLevel lens in every respect. All the superlatives that have been heaped upon this lens are spoton macro capabilities, landscape, portraits, weather resistance, relative size, etc. I use this on an EM5 without a grip and it is very comfortable. Fit and finish are flawless, zoom ring is firm and sure, autofocus is extremely fast and quiet but not as fast as my 17mm f1.8 that lens is ridiculously fast. Bokeh is smooth and creamy, color and contrast are wonderful and the sharpness corner to corner is superb at all apertures. More reach would be nice, but with its sharpness and the OMDs 350 dpi RAW resolution, it really becomes a minor issue. ISO 1600 looks gorgeous cropped in, and ISO 800 and below are phenomenal. To my eye, it outperforms my 2470 f2.8L, and certainly the 24105 f4L IS lens by a long shot. Enough said…if youve been vacillating on this lens, just buy it. you wont regret it.

This lens is awesome The bokeh is so much better than I expected and the sharpness in the image rivals if not surpasses my DSLR. The size and weight are unreal after lugging around a big canon body lenses for years. I love itThe only reason I took a star off is because after 4 days the auto focus stopped working… just throw luck of the draw I guess adorama has been very helpful in getting me a new one.

Ive only had the lens for a couple weeks and so far am blown away by it. I had been using a 25mm prime 50mm effective for two years, which takes great photos, but was after something with a bit more flexibility, especially at wider angles. This lens has certainly delivered. Fully open, it is fantastic for landscapes, giving a real sense of openness in your frame, without any noticeable distortion, which Ive read can occur on very wide angle lenses. Zoomed fully in, the lens also impresses. On my first outing, I managed to zoom in on a flock of geese taking flight in the early morning. It was a quick shot, purely luck, but coupled with my OMD EM5, the fast f2.8 aperture and body focused quickly and resulted in a beautiful in focus shot of the birds in flight. The lens is also good at close up shots not as good as a dedicated macro, but still good, so fully zoomed in with the focal length indicator set to 0.2cm, you can capture a nice amount of close up detail. On that note, the distance indicators are super handy. They are revealed using the manualauto focus clutch system, which overrides the cameras auto focus if you want full control. All in all, this lens is a must have, and I cant wait to use it on my next outing.

Great lens currently used for photographing plants The wider apperature compared to the standard f3.5 is wonderful. A bit heavy, but a minor issue. Good value as I got it just before the prices almost doubled as a result of the devaluing AUD.

The best ever lens I owned. After seeing that indescribable image quality Im not to purchase any mediocre lens in future.I tend to use Topaz Labs Detail to sharpen up my images. I shot an indoor event with this lens.Small interiors colored walls so using a flash was not an option major color bleeding. I had to use f2.8 for all my handheld shots. Excellent results also thanks to 5axis IS. But when I applied Topaz Details even out of focus areas vividly came to life. I dont get such superb effect with any other lens.

Its pretty difficult to fault this lens in any way. Results are consistent and predictable. Feel is heavy and solid. Mounted on my EM5 mkii, the combination feels like military industrial grade tech that would survive anything. Everything about this lens is a yes. You can find technical reviews everywhere that praise it. If the range suits your style, you wont find anything better in any format.

This is an extremely good lens, so good that it could replace your prime lens covered within its focal range. It focuses fast and as close as 20cm, has nice contrast and has corner to corner sharpness. The build is superb and for the price it can be had for from Pixmania you wont regret buying it. One of the best lenses around across all formats. I could go on and on but you can read indepth reviews elsewhere from the professionals.

I recently purchased the Olympus OMD EM1 and awaited the 1240 lens with great anticipation. I suffered a bit of foreboding about spending nearly 1000 on a lens sight unseen and untested but the lens has more than lived up to expectations. Clear, sharp, excellent color rendition. Smooth zoom, quick focusing. No lens creep. No regrets a terrific lens and weather proof to boot.

After outstanding success with the new 40150 Olympus micro lens for my new OMD body, I purchased this lens for the midrange. This lens replaced my steady 1454 Olympus lens I used with an adapter, which served me well on E1 E3 for years. This lens is fast and sharp, a real pleasure to use. The whole set up is remarkable in low light. The compact size of the OM body and lens is a real plus, especially for someone like me who carries a camera on backpacking and rafting trips. I did lose the hood fairly quickly after I added a UV filter to the lens. The filter seemed to stress the hood where it attached. But a sweet setup all around, I highly recommend this lens and the OMD system.

Ive been using olympus cameras since the e420 and I always liked using the standard kit lens 1442mm. I also own a 1122mm but is really big, so almost all the time I always went back to my old kit lens when using my EPL1 and EM1. This lens is the same size as my old kit lens. It feels at home in the EM1. The build quality is really good, it feels way better than my old 1122mm. Very fast to focus and is very easy to switch to manual focus when needed. The short focusing distance is a very useful and neat feature. Is very sharp and I cant find chromatic aberration 1122mm has a lot. For the moment I dont have anything negative to say. I really like it so I started saving money for the 714mm.

There are two pro zooms for mu43, this one and the Panasonic 1235mm. If youre an Olympus shooter this is the one to get, although the Panasonic is slightly smaller and offers many of the same benefits. The Olympus has a slightly better range 40mm vs 35mm, a very good snapfocus ring to quickly engage manual focus and a closer focusing distance than the Panasonic. All of which make up for the slight increase in bulk. My copy of the lens is very sharp and youd be hard pushed to tell the difference between this and any of the Olympics primes in this range in terms of image quality.

In making the gradual shift to Olympus, this lens was one of the three that I purchased with my EM1ii. It is an absolutely lovely piece of glass. After several months of use, it is sharp throughout its focal range, renders faithful contrast and color reproduction, and there are no issues for me with focusing AF or MF at any focal length. Of course, as with any lens from any manufacturer, youll want to field test your copy.

With M43 Im normally a dyedinthewool prime guy, doing street photography with 34mm and 50mm equivalents. I bought this lens only because I was shooting an event that required a minimum of shutter noise. So I pressed my M43 camera into service rather than the DSLR I would normally use for such an assignment. I got great results with this 1240mm. Super sharp, nice rendering, and minimal distortion no matter what focal length. Ive since used this lens in the studio, also with excellent results. While its not a large lens, its probably still a little too imposing for street photography. But who knows The images are so striking, I may give it a try on the streets, too.

A wonderful addition to the Olympus lens offering. A noticeable improvement over the kit lenses bring extra sharpness and shallower depth of field wide open. Strong metal construction. Some distortion on the edges at widest angle though. Im still exploring it but out of the box its excellent glass.

I shoot video on a GH4, and I recently switched from the 1235 Panasonic to this lens for my main lens. The focus rings hard stops are amazing, and the images are crisp, sharp and beautiful while still having plenty of character. The build quality is ridiculous. The lens feels like a tank. While it isnt image stabilized, I shoot almost entirely on a monopod or tripod anyway, and I really dont miss the stabilization on the 1235 that often.

So I needed to start with a lens. Couldnt have made a better choice than this one. Quality, durable build and wonderfully sharp and clear photos. Wide open f2.8 Id have to say that the bokeh isnt as creamydreamy as with my f2.8 L lenses, but its still fine to most viewers eyes. I love the size, the weight, and ease of use, too. If youre looking for a perfect walkaround lens for your Micro Four Thirds body, this is it.

This glass, along with my EM1, EM5, and fleet of M43 primes has reached fruition. I just finished selling all my Nikon pro gear on . This leaves me hanging a little waiting for the 40150 F2.8 to come out later this year, but I figured if I waited for that to happen my Nikon gear would be worth less as others jump ship like I just did. The future is here. This lens on a OMD EM1 with grip makes for a very bright future indeed. But do grab all the Olympus primes from 17mm 75mm for good measure. I like those particularly well on my EM5 no grip. Now heres the best part I made money out of replacing my Nikon gear with my Olympus gear. Snicker snicker.

As advertised a quality set of optics. No complaint. Except two things One I have it mounted on the smallish Olympus Pen F and my right hand firmly around the camera because of the weight causes me to inadvertently brush some of the buttons on the super menu with results I dont want. Also, if one leaves the MF ring in that position and turns on the power, you may take out of focus shots because the AF is turned off. Need to get used to these issues. I wish it were a bit lightersuffer from arthritis in the thumbs

This comes close to being a primary lens as the focal length, the f2.8 aperture and the weight of the lens make it a great everyday choice. Yes, it is a bit heftier than the kit lens, but it is worth it for the added sharpness and light gathering capabilities of the lens. Good things 1. f2.8 maximum aperture versus f3.5 to f5.6 for the kit lens 2. Sharpness…..much, much better than the kit lens 3. Contrast….much better than the kit lens which is not bad 4. Ease of use….excellent, especially the placement of the selffocusautomatic focus option 5. Weather proofing Not so great things 1. A bit of flare is evident in difficult lighting situations especially backlighting 2. The barrel extension at longer focal lengths takes getting used to is not a favorite feature. Overall, a very good lens. My only regret is that I waited so long before purchasing it.

This Olympus M.Zuiko Pro lens is of the nicest lenses Ive ever owned, and that includes several Nikkor 35mm lenses from the 70s80s. It just feels like quality with a capital Q. Auto focus is virtually instantaneous, even in low light. It has awesome bokeh compared to the 1442 F3.55.6 kit lens. And the difference between 14mm and 12mm is more than youd think. Having recently switched from Canon L series to the smaller, lighter, 43rds on a GH5 you expect to lose a little of that lush depth of field imagery, but with the constant aperture at 2.8 and an actually quite useful zoom range what is in effect 24 to 80mm on a full frame, this little, but reassuringly heavy lens performs small wonders. Love it Im also lucky enough to have the 12100mm constant f4 Olympus which has its own place, but for gaining a little more light all round in those darker places, grab yourself one of these you cant go wrong

I purchased this lens to go with the Panasonic GH4, I chose this lens over the Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 1235mm f2.8. The reason for that is build quality. The Olympus lens is all around metal and feels really well built. As where the Lumix seemed a bit on the rubberplastic side such as on the focus ring and the lens itself. The Olympus lens doesnt have O.I.S. but I rather stabilize if necessary in Premiere Pro, and with the 4K image on the GH4 you can stabilize so well and have plenty of room to reframe if it comes to that. The lens image is great in my opinion, great lens to begin the MFT glass collection with, giving you a focal length of about 2480mm with 2x crop, a little more in 4K 2.3x. It has given me great video and photos as well. It has a virtually unnoticeable flicker when zooming in as opposed to the Lumix where it was noticeable, it all depends on what kind of work you do with your camera to know if that would be an issue for you. Autofocus has worked well 98 of the time though I tend to use manual focusing most of the time. The other great feature is the focus ring, it can snap back to give you definite focus points giving you complete control on focusing when using a follow focus or fixed focal lengths, or you can snap it to endless turning and useto fine tune together with autofocus or whatever your method is. I like the size and weight it gives the camera when mounted, the lens cap has center pressure levers allowing for easy on and off of the cap, even with sun hood on. Anyhow, I think it is a great lens for the price and overall great glass. You will not be disappointed.

great lens, tack sharp, fast focus and as one would guess being f2.8 it is brilliant for low light. Beautifully designed, fast zoom lens. Similar focal range to a classic 2470 35mm equivalent on a MFT sensor, but slightly longer on telephoto end at 80mm.The game changing feature of this lens is the manual clutch ring with slides forward for autofocus, or back for true manual focus yes, hard stops on either end This allows for consistent, repeatable focus when using a follow focus for video applications, and unlike most AF lenses for mirrorless cameras that use focus by wire, the focus action is smooth and predictable no matter how fast or slow you turn the ring.Sure, you can get these results from a dedicated manual focus lens, like a cine lens, but then you lose AF when you want it, and an affordable cine zoom with this range just doesnt exist.I havent done a fullon test for sharpness and distortion, but the performance for video is quite good just by looking at the footage Ive shot so far. DXO Mark scores are good, but slightly lower compared to similar options in a full frame DSLR for still shooters. If youre shooting video primarily, you cant go wrong with this lens.

This is an impressive lens that feels so solid and precision that it makes you want to go out and use it. There is a trade off, and that is size and weight. For me the size is not really a problem since I had been using the Oly 1442mm f3.55.6 kit lens from my old 43 camera with an adapter on my EM1, so this 1240 is basically the same size but with a larger diameter lens 62mm v. 58mm. The weight difference is noticeable however. I like the extra bit of wide angle range and the wider, constant aperture. I have only shot some test images, but so far they look very good. The zoom and focus rings feel totally solid. I like the manual focus clutch too.

Though content using the Zuiko DSLR lenses 1260 and 50200 both f2.84 on the EM1 mark ii I wanted a native lens to free up the others for the E5. I am very happy with the lens. I will be doing a lot more manual focus because of the ease with which to engage the clutch for MF without my eye leaving the EVF. The camera has proven sharp even when wide open. The lens was mostly wide open as I took the enclosed shots. Obviously in two of the three there was a lot of movement. Excellent AF and very easy MF with focus peaking. AF does not always work well when the lens is mated to the GX8 body, a bit of a disappointment. The focus is not fast nor accurate with this lens and the Panasonic GX8. Nor is it fulfilling. The Olympus lens is about overvalued for a serious lens. One can buy a 400mm lens for the same price. I was never able to achieve spot on focus in 4k picture mode. Over the past 35 years I have used numerous lens for film and digital cameras. This lens ranks at the very top of my list. I learned long ago to buy the best lenses and spend less on the camera body. The lens is the secret sauce not the camera body. I rented this lens for 4 days and tested it against my Pentax prime lenses on a K5 body using a tripod and the equivalent focal length,Fstop and shutter speed. All were shot in RAW and JPEG. At its widest focal length,24mm it was sharper than my Pentax 15mm lens. At settings equal to 35, 50 and 75mm the Pentax and Olympus were equal. This convinced me to buy the Olympus lens because of its size, weight and sharpness.

I got this lens a few weeks ago as a gift from my wife. I began making photos immediately with my OMD EM1. I was very impressed with its lightening fast focus on most subjects. But, when I tried to focus on some colorful clouds during a sunset, with some nearby silhouetted trees in the foreground the lens kept trying to find focus, but couldnt, 30 of the time. I didnt expect that. So thats why I gave it four stars. Otherwise, it takes excellent pictures. I was also surprised when I switched to manual focus. The focus was magnified, and focus peaking appeared as well. That doesnt happen with my Zuiko, 17mm 1,8 another excellent lens. Anyway, it was helpful in making the close up shots sharp as can be. I had no trouble mounting the lens to the body. Its a bit tight, but thats to be expected. I didnt notice any excessive weight or balance problems. My legacy lenses are even heavier than the 1240. Overall, Im happy I got the lens though it is rather pricey. I got tired of changing primes while shooting. And, the old glass just wasnt as sharp. The zoom works well without any noise. Both focusing systems are smooth and accurate. The lens hood and pouch are a welcomed bonus, although I expect the 1240 will be my primary lens from now on, so I wont be using the pouch except when packing the lens while traveling. I havent tried any evening or night shooting yet. I will do another review when i shoot under those conditions.

The f2.8 is great in low light and gives a smooth blurry background. Top marks for a truly great lens that would challenge a Canon Lseries…praise indeed.

I really like using primes. In fact, this is the only zoom I own. It lives on my EM1 because if I need to get a quick shot, I have the most options quickly. I previously owned the kit lens from the EM5, the 1250mm, so when I took this lens out of the box the first thing I noticed is that this lens is a beast. Its much larger than the kit lens, its also bigger than the 75mm prime. Its not so big that its uncomfortable, its just one thing I didnt know while considering the lens. Still well worth it.

Paired up with my M10ii and its a beast lens. Sharp pictures with little to no distortion when zoomed in. However, this lens makes this screeching noise that is not loud, but very audible in quiet areas. Ive used a different lens 25mm for testing and found that it is not the camera, but the 1240 itself. Heres what Ive found when trying to determine the problem It does not occur from zooming, occurs when I dont zoom It does not occur from focusing, the sound is audible without touching the focus ring It is not the Image Stabilization, Ive turned it off, still occurs, and swapped out lenses 25mm, tried it with and without stabilization, camera is fine Sound is audible when I keep camera still at times or when the camera is idle, occurs at times when camera is moving Sound disappears when zooming inout, using manual clutch It sounds like it has to do with its electrical components, not mechanical It does not affect lens performance but having paid top dollar for a Pro lens, noises that occur randomly and frequently is a bummer.

i have decided to switch to Micro Four Thirds recently and after reading countless reviews of the Olympus M Zuiko 1240mm ED Pro lens, i fell for it. Paired it with the OMD EM10 Yes, i just love the EM10, i am getting great results everytime I just love this lens I could have gone for prime lenses, but having a highquality zoom lens is convenient. The image quality is topnotch But….it seems to be the lens makes some noise when focusing. If you record video, you will hear it in the clip. Since im new to the lens, i have no idea if its normal or not…again, i dont care much about video feature so its not much of a concern.

I own a Canon 60D with two general purpose lenses Canon 1585 which i kinda liked it, and a Tamron 1750 2.8 which I loved although it did not have IS or USM like the Canons. Somehow, I looked for something lighter and eventually bought an Olympus OMD10 mark II, which I liked, but missed the Canons sharpness I was used to. For sure this should be blamed by the Olympus kit lens. I eventually, bought this 1240 PRO lens It is great it focuses fast, and have a great sharpness. I guess I like it being a zoom lens allowing me to get results comparable to prime lens, and it is not so expensive. Truly recommended.

Build quality the best Ive seen. Color rendition is superlative. Pictures sharp at all fstop settings. Somewhat lighter than its 43rds counterpart, the 1260mm f2.84.0 lens, and unlike the 1260mm lens requires no adapter on a micro43rds camera. A must have for micro 43rds owners. Brilliant and instant pushpull autotomanual feature. Pushbutton hood feature that prevents accidental loss. Zoom and manual focus rings smooth as silk. Great value. It would be perfect if it had the extra 20mm reach available on the 43rds 1260mm lens.

I bought this lens in order to have s zoom that was weatherproof and a larger maximum aperture compared to the kit. I Bought this at the BH retail store since I was in NYC. However the price tag hadeget out of line a couple of times. I am so glad I purchased this lens. It is rock solid, the manual focus overide is sweet, and it renders images beautifully. I will admit that it is not a small lens like Im used to for m43. This lens is about the size of a DSLR kit lens, but heavier. I suggest you get this lens without trepidation because it is s real performer.

I love the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 1240mm f2.8 pro lens. I use it with the OMDE5 Mark II Olympus camera. I have used it while just walking about meaning not specifically going out to take any photos, but taking my camera with me should the opportunity arise. Its lightweight and the versatility range 2480mm is perfect. Shooting wide open you can definitely get the bokeh effect. Ive taken shots of flowers and plant life with a bokeh look. I also used it at nighttime outdoors to take shots of Christmas lights. And I used it on a tripod to take photos of my friends around a campfire. All in all, if I had to travel really light and just take one lens, this is the one I would take. Even though I have 78 other Olympus lenses.

This lens is sharp from center to corners. Wide enough for most and just long enough for portraits. Light and well built. Has function button that you can customized. Easy to switch to manual focus and has smooth action .Not macro, but close.Splash proof , Ive taken it out in my kayak where it has gotten wet with no problems just wiped with microfiber cloth and kept on shooting. Easy to travel with. The best thing about micro 43 is the small light weight lens. This is a pro lens. You can get a less expensive and lighter lens, but, not as fast or as sharp nor as weather resistant in a standard zoom.

This is one lens that definitely lives up to the rave reviews. Super sharp and detailed images. It is a bit big and heavy compared to other lenses, but its a worthwhile trade off. How sharp is it my Panasonic Leica 25mm f1.4 is now redundant. A major plus is the ability to grab the focus ring and instantly switch to manual focus.

This is my first PRO m43 lens and its nothing short of amazing. Im a long time Canon shooter whos used to high quality Lseries lenses, and I can confidently say that this lens can hang with any L Ive ever used. Its amazingly well built, has blazing fast AF, is highly weather sealed, has smooth zoomfocus rings, and is razor sharp wide open. It includes a locking lens hood nice feature and a lens bag very similar to the Canon lens bags… which I use for totingorganizing accessories. Ive shot this lens on both the EM10 II and EM1 II, and its great on both bodies. Its not a tiny lens, but its still small and light… especially if compared to its full frame equivalent. My EM1 II 1240 PRO is almost exactly half the weight and at least 13 smaller than my 5D III Tamron 2470 VC, but gives me images that are just as sharp and beautiful. Yes, the bokeh is about 2 stops behind FF in the amount of blur M43 f2.8 looks like FF f5.6, but its very very close to matching APSC which pleasantly surprised me… but thats a M43 sensor size characteristic, not anything to do with this lens. Overall, this is a pretty amazing lens and one I highly recommend if youre looking for an extremely high quality and fast lens.

This is my first professional lens for use on my GH4, and I must say, this will probably be THE LENS that is always on my camera. The FOV at 12mm is more than satisfactory for the cinematic look, giving me the coveted 24mm that directors love. The colors are lush and accurate, and the lens is quite sharp. For most of the shooting I will be doing, this lens will cover it. OH… and the manual focusing is superb This lens acts as both an AF lens and with a click switches to a vintage lens. LOVE it.

This is the professional replacement for the the OMD kit lens. It is fast, brilliantly sharp and well priced. It is as good as my Olympus Premium series ED fast primes. Although the primes are a are a little faster at f1.8 and lighter. The only negative thing about this lens is it weights nearly half a kilogram considerable more the the camera body. I suspect OMD owners will need to make a decision between this lens and the 12100mm F4.0 IS PRO lens as their general purpose lens. This lens is faster, sharper, smaller and lighter than the 12100mm so you need to do a lot of telephoto filming to justify the 12100mm over this lens.

Ive been using the 1240mm along with the 918mm, 1442mm kit, 25mm 1.8, 45mm 1.8, 60mm 2.8, 40150mm II R, and the 75300mm 4.86.7 and have captured too many good memories to count over the last couple of years. This lens has image quality like the 25mm and 45mm prime lenses, is weather resistant, and has a much nicer focus ring feel. The prime lenses have a faster F1.8 aperture, but the F2.8 aperture is a good compromise for the 1240mm zoom capability which makes it the best all around lens. The ability to switch from auto focus no stops to manual focus with stops by pulling back on the ring is a great feature. If youre only going to buy one lens for your M43 camera this is the one to get.

I love the quick manual focus feature. I wish all the m43 lens could do this. Ive very impress with the lens. Build quality is excellent and it feels like a quality pro lens. For a Micro 43 lens its a little heavy but when comparing it to a canon L its light.

I am a hobby photographer, and enjoy shooting landscapes and portraits of familyfriends. I used to shoot a lot more actionmotorsports, but have transitions to calmer photography. This lens is paired with my Olympus OMD EM5 mark ii. It is a fantastic all around lens, and although heavy compared to many others, the fixed 2.8 makes it worth it in my opinion. I have heard people discuss the sharpness of this lens in a negative manner, but I have found it to not only be sufficiently sharp, but very sharp for a zoom lens. Please keep in mind for those coming from APSC or full frame cameras that M43 is a smaller sensor and thus the aperture is one full stop less for purposes of depth of field control as in with all M43 lenses. This lens will NOT act like a 2.8 on a full frame, and that should be expected due to the sensor size. That being said, bokeh is not a problem if you shoot 2.8 at 40mm80mm equiv. Just dont expect to get Full Frame F2.8 performance at 12mm. This lens is on my camera about as much as my 45mm 1.8, and is the only lens I take out with me walking around for general photography. I hesitate to give anything 5 stars, but I really enjoy this lens.

This lens represents my first foray into the world of micro 43s photography, and I have been more than a little surprised by not only the lens but the Olympus EM1. This lens is so quick and easy to use. Since it is the resident lens for the system, I expected it to be fully integrated and that is certainly without saying, but its very difficult for me to convey the feeling with how simple and fluid everything integrates. I am still learning my way around the digitalease of the Olympus language, but it hasnt proved to be an insurmountable task. For me the clarity of the pictures is immediately obvious, and the ability to shoot everything at f2.8 may not be something that stikes you as so important until you begin shooting with it. I began most of my shooting at the 40mm position which is equivalent to an 80mm length in traditional 35mm photography, where I came from. The shots are crystal clear both wide open and stepped down at f22. As everyone conveys here, believe me you will not be disappointed with the clarity and sharpness across the board. Ive seen only a minor bit of vignetting, but only once or twice, and nothing that I couldnt easily deal with. I shoot Leica lenses because in the end it is always about the glass, and this is one glass youll be happy is in your bag. Yes it does stick out a bit at 40mm, but it certainly isnt unwieldy. And it glides so easily from one length to another, it easily glides back to the shorter length when needed. Let me say a word about the Bokeh on this lens open wide. Its amazing. At 40mm it carves out this delicious black background and virtually isolates your subject so cleanly youll be amazed at the way it pops. If you want to go to a single format, with one lens, Id say this is the one to go to bed with. Its fantastic and gets better each day.

What more can be said about this lens The reviews have been so great that I rented it for a recent vacation. After a single day I knew I was going to go home, sell a few old things, and buy it. It is all the things youd want sharp, great color contrast, fast.It feels good on the EM1 though I wish it was a little bit lighter. I really like the pushpull focus ring for quick MF. I purchased this lens three weeks ago from BH when it was on sale to use with my EM10 and take on a European cruise this spring. I shoot landscapes with a FF Nikon setup and am used to shooting with various Nikon lenses, 2470mm, 60mm micro, 85mm F1.8, 50mm F1.8, etc. I mainly use the micro 43s system for family events, but after shooting for three weeks with this lens i doubt the 2470 will get much use in the future It constantly amazes me how the Olympus primes, and this zoom, are sharp wide open This lens is as good wide open as it gets and covers a very useful range cant wait for Europe.

Other reviews can tell you all you need to know, its a great lens. Just wanted to add that I have involuntarily given this lens a quite rough treatment, and it just survives anything. Treatment includes a solid saltwater shower, followed by a freshwater shower to remove the salt, and I once threw it hard into a rock. The lens didnt seem affected by this at all. Even though I would recommend you to treat it nicer than me, it is evident that this lens is designed to tackle hard use.

For reference, Ive been using this with the M1 Mk. II for the past 2 years now, and its literally been my only lens in that time, so I cant offer much in the way of comparisons. With that said, during that time, Ive shot 22,600 images, the vast majority of which were while skiing, mountain biking, fly fishing, and trail running.I wanted a single lens that could handle most of the shots I need to take, and this lens has done that very, very well, for what it is.I just purchased the Panasonic 35100mm F2.8 since the main downside I have with my current setup is needing to get way too close to the subjects for certain shots, which can get a bit dicey when theyre skiing riding casting directly at me.But the 1240 mm F2.8 has proven surprisingly versatile. Wide enough for very closeup action, just enough zoom so that I usually dont get run over by the subject, and plenty sharp for what I do primarily digital publishing, no big prints. The fullrange F2.8 has proven really useful compared to my last, cheap kit lens, and especially for biking where light is often limited in denser forests. While Im far from a lens expert, what I can attest to is this lenss durability at least in my experience. I am embarrassingly bad when it comes to taking care of my camera gear. Last winter, I skied a full season with the camera probably 60 days with it in a regular ski backpack and basically no additional protection. Then I spent a summer biking with it in a nonpadded hip pack. And I like skiing and biking way more than I like taking pictures, so while I wont deliberately flip or spin while I have my camera, I definitely still ride hard with it. This past year I finally got padded cases for it while skiing and biking, but that has not prevented it from getting blasted with snow and dirt while shooting. Im really bad in terms of remembering to zip my backpack closed before shooting, which means the interior is rarely snowfree when I put the camera back inside. After all that, I have not had a single durability issue with this lens. IMO, thats either just really good luck, or the lens I have is very durable.Downsides Its expensive, though I managed to get it with the M1 when Olympus did a 800 discount on the package, so that was fortunately not a big issue for me personally.Based on the other reviews, it sounds like the autofocus may be subpar. As I noted above, I havent used another lens to compare yet, so I dont know if its just this lens, the M1, or neither, but I will say Im often wishing for quicker autofocusing while shooting veryclose action shots. Ive easily gotten used to this, and just have to set up the shot autofocus where I think the best image from a burst will be, but itd be cool if it was faster and more reliable. IMO, not a huge deal since Ive been able to adapt, but it seems like a possible area for improvement.Overall, this lens has held up very well to legitimate abuse, Ive been able to become a better photographer with it, and Ill be continuing to use it as my widerangle lens going forward.

I purchased this as an upgrade to the Olympus 1250mm kit lens that came with my OMD EM5. While I felt the 1250mm was already under appreciated, this lens has totally blown me away with its sharpness corner to corner, fast focus, and quality of build. Just picking it up…you know its something special. This lens is most always attached now, only getting supplanted by my 45mm when shooting portraits, and my Panasonic 100300mm for wildlife shots. I think my 17mm street lens will see the sun less and less though it may come out for nighttime street photography from time to time. Bottom line…BUY THIS LENS.

I replaced two Olympus prime lenses with this 1240mm pro, I was a little reticent, as the image quality of the 17mm and 45 prime it was going to replace, was excellent. I need not have been concerned, this 1240 mm pro lens is truly exceptional, it is so sharp and exceptionally fast to focus that I cant stop using it. I have used some very expensive lenses prior to changing to the Olympus micro four thirds system, but I have never produced images of this clarity before. If you have a passion for quality photography and own an OMD, this lens will blow your mind, and anyone who looks at your pictures will also be very impressed. At the purchase price from eglobal via ebay, it is the best buy I have ever made.

Ive been using an Olympus OMSE5 for about 2 years now with a pretty good set of primes and the kit zoom. But I found I needed a little more room at the wide end and something faster than the 1442mm,3.55.6 kit zoom offered. I spent a fair amount of time and energy looking at the options getting 12mm and 25mm primes, looking at the Panasonic offerings, etc. as I was a little put off by the weight and price of this lens. After trying the 25mm and finding it not to my liking, I decided to go all in and purchase this lens. I have to say I fell in love with it right away and have been incredibly impressed by its sharpness which is like that of the Olympus 45mm. Yes, it is a little heavy for my aging, arthritic hands, but the positives far outweigh that issue and Im having fun finding ways to adapt. This lens has not come off my camera since its purchase except when doing macro work and, BTW, the macro capability of this lens is amazing. Just for fun, I switched out my 60mm macro lens for this one and was quite surprised by the results. Its not a true macro, but in certain situations it serves quite well. I can recommend this lens to anyone with a M43 camera note, no lens stabilization as it is an Olympus lens as a Cant do without lens.

This lens, the Olympus 1240mm f2.8 or its rival, the Panasonic 1235mm f2.8, is a must have for micro four thirds shooters. Just make sure your camera body has inbody stabilization as the lens itself does not have stabilization. The focal length is wide enough at 12mm to shoot landscape photos. At the narrow end, 30 to 40mm will shoot great portrait shots only beaten out by a faster prime lens. The speed f2.8 is fast enough to get most of the needs done. At low light, youll need to pump up your ISO though to compensate. The longer focal length tends to see a little bit of dropped sharpness but its really only noticeable if you pixel peep. I gave up my 14150 for this because the f2.8 instead of f4 to 5.6. The new lens will also do focus stacking with the firmware 4.0, and because I am a macro fan, this really delights me. It is heavier than the other lens, but is decidedly well built. The manual focus clutch is a fast way to go back and forth between auto focus and manual which really helps me taking bird pictures with branches in the way. And I can even take it out in the rain

Very sharp, reasonably fast, can get decent bokeh. Like how it handles and manual focus clutch. Splash proof perfect necessary for Scotish English weather. LFn button useful with standard function AELAFL but is a bit hard to find. This and all Pro lenses feel Big Heavy and expensive when compared to usual m43 25mm, 45mm or even 14150 and 75300. Changing between 1240 Pro and 40150 Pro needs careful handling. But if you wantneed Pro performance and characteristics you pay for these and manage the size and weight. It is just that this is no longer a small, cute, high performance, low cost m43 lense Clearly meant for enthusiasts and professionals, but entry level amateurs should consider their expectations carefully. Side note I fit 1240 Pro, 40150 Pro, 75300 and one or max two smaller lenses in a Hadley Pro.

I heard about this lens from watching a Tony Northrup video reviewing the Olympus MD II camera plus some lenses for it. Tony highly praised it, so I decided to get one. I cant comment on its durability because Ive only had it for a few weeks, but it seems pretty solid, and Ive enjoyed walking around with it. I wish it had more reach, but other than that, Im happy with it. Its sharp, and you can get close to the subject for closeup photography. Its also small and light I purchased a used copy of the lens for a good price slightly less than half the new price, and its in excellent condition. In that sense its a very good value. From my experience so far, Id be happy to pay full pop if that were all thats available. In all, if you have an Olympus camera, you cant go wrong with this lens.

Its a rock solid starter lens for your MFT camera and its light enough that one can use it with the BMPCC4K and a singleoperator gimbal. That said, there is minor warping at the wider settings so get ready for that. Nothing offensive, just enough to notice if youre looking for it.

This lens has a larger diameter but the same length as a micro 43 1250. It has a heavier more solid feel to it almost twice the weight of the 1250. It has a 7 blade aperture vs the 5 blade of the 1250. It does not have the motorized zoom capability of the Olympus 1250. It does not quite reach the minimum image size of the 1250 for closeups. For many pictures the differences will be indistinguishable from the 1250. However it is intended to give more isolation between infocus and outoffocus objects when used wide open. The most common use for many people would be for more pleasing portraits of people. It is a superb lens.

There are plenty of reviews of this great lens available and I held off quite awhile getting one of my own, but I thought showing the lens in use by a publication might be helpful to show how it did.All the photos in Wavenys always quietest in the snow, which was done in New Canaan, Conn. and published Feb. 8, were shot with my trusty old EM5 and the Olympus M.Zuiko 1240mm f2.8. You can search online on that title in quotes and the article should come up easily.I have fastultrafast primes like the Voigtlander f0.95s that I use for low light, indoors at dusk, nighttime cityscapes and so on. Ive usually got them along with that same EM5, which has some mileage but still always gets it done. Ive reviewed much of that gear, too.But I got the Olympus M.Zuiko 1240mm as a lens option to have on the camera for general daylight situations and in the inclement weather that, for one reason or another, I often find myself in. The lens range, good f2.8 speed, very close focusing, overall excellence and so on obviously are very useful in a grab and go situation when you dont know what to expect. Its not pleasant if I have to take some of those primes out in the rain, sleet or whatever theyre tough, but I sure dont want water leaking into them. Working on this story the other day, I was out for awhile in heavier snowfall.I figured a snowstorm was exactly the environment to see how the lens would do. With enough snow whipping around, weatherproofing doesnt matter if the front of the lens is all snowy or wet, so I still did my best to keep the camera and lens shielded. The lens worked great all around, and although I blew off snow with a bulb when I hopped back in the car and inspected cleaned it later take care of your gear and itll do the same for you, the lens was just fine without being coddled. But it is very nice, and it delivers. Its easy to want to spoil it a bit.As a few quick build quality notes, I find the hood works well forward or in reverse as long as I make sure Ive got it threaded in its track properly and it snaps on. I was a little disappointed at first that the innerfront lens barrel and front threads are plastic, but theyre sturdy and the materials are wellchosen. Just be careful not to misthread any filters you use. Also, thank you, Olympus, for the little but nice touches like the cool front lens cap and handsome lens pouch. The lens arrives in some style with attention paid to details. Its hard to find fault with a lens thats just got all the right stuff and will be useful in a variety of challenging situations. Have a look at the slideshow and article if youd like to see some realworld examples.

Beautifully made lens feels great in the hand and built for tough love. Results are superbly sharp with great tonal rendition and contrast, the close focus range is a real bonus. I usually hate all rounder lenses like this but they are massively practical so i bought it anyway. I dont regret it. This is a great and versatile lens, with a few caveats. Most of the issues of note with this lens have less to do with the lens itself and more to do with the format itself. The Positives Relatively fast constant aperture. 2480mm 35mm equivalent focal length is versatile for daily use. Construction is metal, durable, and well assembled. Comes with a bayonetmount petal hood. Hoods are not always a given with Olympus shame on them. Demarcated focus with distance scale and freewheel focus. You can select by pulling the focus ring back or pushing it forward. A nifty feature. Additional programmable function button on the lens. Very sharp across the field, good contrast, color, and clarity. The Negatives Included lens cap is centerpinch only, no edgepinch. I find this slightly annoying. Pro branding is somewhat ostentatious. Lens is a bit heavy and a bit large for MFT. Note it is still compact compared to other formats. It just might be a bit front heavy for a very small MFT camera, it is quite at home on my EM5. My last negative is a result of the design choices of both the system and the lens. The depth of field achieved by MFT cameras at f2.8 is very usable. Expect to shoot this lens wide open practically all the time. However, as the light begins to decrease you can not crank the ISO all that much before you begin to introduce lots of noise and ruin the chroma accuracy. This means the low light capability of the lens is somewhat limited and you will want to reach to f1.4 or better to really realize good exposures in low light. Overall this is a great lens, my cons list is entirely made of pedantry. A perfect companion to any of the more substantial MFT cameras such as the EM10, GH4, or EM1. It will still work great with cameras like the EP5 and GM1, but it will be a bit frontheavy. Quality is high, very usable in many situations, good focal length range. Heartily recommended.

I just got the lens and have started to put it throughout the paces on the EM1. It is tinge heavier because it is a solidly built lens and excellent for travel . I rolled both the camera and lens off a boulder and no issues. I always felt like a minority in being a fan of Olympus products, but this lens supports why…its fast on the focus, my pictures look sharp, and i can drag it anywhere i want. Admittedly I havent used the function button on the lens but expect I will add and learn more on that shortly. Ive used it more outdoors so far for landscape sort of pictures . Ive sampled a couple stills and they look good with nice bokeh . Im excited to take more pictures

The price was so good from eglobal central that I hesitated quite a bit on my first purchase. Sure enough, my first lens came olympus 75300 for micro 43 and it was perfect. Brand new. I quickly ordered this one 1224mm next and its my favorite lens now. I only wish they carried the panasonic 100400 for micro 43 I heard some reviews about delays but that wasnt my experience. I highly recommend this business and lens

This is my first pro lens for my OMDEM10 Mark II. It makes my little camera feel like a real camera with this attached. Up until now I have gotten great shots with my prime lenses but bought this so I can take it out for the day without switching lenses. It has a build quality which is much more substantial than the primes. it operates smoothly and I like the way manual focus engages. Im still not sure what to do with the function button though. I wasnt sure how it would be on the entry level OMD because the camera body is so small but with the grip on the body it is just right.

As expected from a Prosereis lens, this lens is wonderful. The build qaulity is super, the feel of it is solid and robust. In comparison to the 1250mm lens of Olympus I got with my EM5 OMD camera, this one is another story. Yes, it is shorter by 10mm from the 1250mm but with F2.8 it is much much better in every parameter. After having a 20mm prime lens on my camera almost since the day I got it, it feels a bit strange to suddenly have a big barrel mounted on. But after a few shots you realize its worth the price around 1000, not including local tax in my country, the weight more than the camera alone.., the size this is not a Panasonic 20mm lens.. and the hussle of suddenly walking around with a camera that does not fit in your bag so easily.

Im probably the only one that does this, but i didnt bother reading the manual and just stuck the lens on and started shooting. Imagine my horror when all of a sudden my camera refused to autofocus, at a photo shoot no less I even returned the lens for repair My vision is not correctable to 2020 so I have to rely on autofocus Now I know about the autofocus clutch, which is easily moved accidently wish there was a lock, just be sure to check your results. Love the lens next time Ill read the manual.

This is a.hea heavyweight lens for micro four thirds. Lighter lenses may be available but this is all metal and oozes good build quality. Image quality is superb. On the Olympus OMD EM5 markii it feels front heavy but with the battery grip attached it is much more balanced. It is not a macro lens but close focusing is amazing and an added bonus. The price at eglobal is hard to beat and makes it a bargain for serious photography. So impressed, i have just ordered the EM1 markii and the 40150mm f2.8 pro lens from eglobal. This will exceed my original need to replace my 2 canon bodies with the 2470mm f2.8 and the 70200mm f2.8 gear as I will have a reach of the equivalent of 24mm to 300mm in full frame format in a more compact and much lighter set up.

At first, I didnt believe that I would put down this much money for this lens since Im not a professional photographer. However, after using the Olympus 1442mm kit lens for a while, I was not satisfied with the clarity of my photographs and the lens overall. Honestly, I wish I bought this lens with my camera body much earlier. It has an amazing metal construction build, the glass is extremely clear and high quality, the zoom range is very useful, and the F2.8 stop is also useful. I used this camera in rain and snow with no problems. The lens is expensive, quite large, heavier than most Micro Four Third lenses Ive used, and it makes a rubbery noise when zooming in and out. These are minor cons compared to what this lens does for your photographs which are so sharp at even 100 crop. This lens added to myOlympus OMD EM5 Mark II body makes a full weatherproof camera. Its a pleasure to use.

Solid construction and beautiful results. I ordered this as part of a bundle with the EM5 MKII and I couldnt be happier. Coming from the Panasonic camp, I had a hard time deciding between this cameralens combo vs the GH41235 f2.8. Im primarily a stills shooter so paying up for the video features of the Panasonic approach seemed a poor bargain. The lens produces images that have more presence than what Im used to. Hard to put into words, but I feel like my photos have more pop. I was also surprised that it has such close focusing capabilities. If could only have one lens, this would be it.

I had preordered this lens, so I ended getting it in October 2013. I have now had ample opportunities to use it. My biggest surprise is how steady it is. I have been able to take shots at 115 and ISO 400 that are very sharp at 100. Incredible. I was afraid this lens was going to be heavy for the OMD, but it very nicely matched. I have no trouble hand holding and zooming. The overall image quality is not discernibly less than the 75mm, at least to my eye. Finally, the close focus on this lens is a breeze to use and a fantastic asset. I was expecting a high quality lens at this price, but I was naturally also expecting the need to accept compromise. Yes, of course there are compromises, but this lens has exceeded my expectations

Last year I purchased an OMD M5 II as an upgrade for my E510. I also purchased the micro four thirds four thirds adapter so I could continue to use my existing lenses. This worked well, except that the focus was painfully slow. This was not a problem except when photographing people. I was frustrated as I really loved the new camera body.A while back, a gentleman from Australia was in the Olde Tyme Portrait Studio, where I work who had an E1 with this Pro lens. He let me try it and that evening I purchased this lens. Now, Im a very happy camper. The lens is lightening fast and the photos are stunning.

The lens is sharp from f2.8 upwards. There are plenty of good reviews out there and it lives up to the hype. The colour produced by the lens is good too. The lens is built well and has a very smooth movement which feels very durable as a pro lens should be. The only con is that the 62mm lens filter can be hard to find and that the lens is heavy. But worth carrying it around for the image quality.

I was deciding between this lens and the Lumix 1235. I AB tested both lenses and the Olympus 1235 is sharper, plus I found the image to be a bit more pleasing. OK Its big and a little heavy, but you dont get something for nothing. This lens is sharp with very good contrast and very little flair. Being a constant aperture design is in part responsible for the extra heft but having that maximum aperture of f2.8 available at all focal lengths is really good. The build quality is quite robust and the splash resistant construction is a nice feature. This lens is becoming my go to lens and is an item that I can heartily recommend .

This PRO lens from Olympus is weatherproof, razor sharp even wide open, beautifully built, gives gorgeous color rendition and is the perfect fit for the new OMDEM1 body. I use it in conjunction with the 45mm f1.8 portraits are great and the 75mm f1.8 phenomenal midtele. The 35mm equivalent is 2480 on this lens but it has no weaknesses anywhere in its focal range from f2.8 to f8. I used to be a bigbody 35mm APSC and fullframe shooter but my bag would weigh upwards of 45 lbs with bodies, lenses and flashes. Now it weighs less than 20 lbs with everything I need and the quality is as good or BETTER than before I eagerly await the 40150mm f2.8PRO early in 2014.

I have used this lens primarily for travel and landscape photography. It is excellent. Resolution, speed, size, weight all contribute to make this a great primary zoom choice. I have shot Northern Lights, in the rain, in low light handheld to half a second, and can print gorgeous 17 x 22 prints with my Epson P800. No super technical review, just that edge to edge my 17 x 22 prints shot with this lens and the OMDEM1 MKii look terrific. Thats all I need.

This is a well built, good zoom lens for micro fourthirds, with fast autofocus, nice bokeh, and I really enjoy the flexibility of a zoom in this range. It is heavier than other micro fourthirds lenses, but it balances nicely on my body. However, I find that I prefer prime lenses on my OMD EM5 Mark II as they provide much sharper images with more contrast and brighter colors. Prime lenses are almost always going to be sharper than zooms, but I find it more so on my EM5. Images with this zoom paled in comparison to my Olympus 25 mm and 75 mm images. This is the lens to have if you dont want to mess with changing lenses so much, but for me I dont mind given the results with the primes. The primes are also very light, so the body and 2 or 3 lenses amount to very little weight. I like this lens a lot, but my preference is for prime lenses.

In reality, imagine having the equivalent of the Canon 2470 f2.8 L at basically less than half the price. Thats where the MFT formats latest pro lens from Olympus leads us. Top notch build quality, tack sharp wide open, beautiful color rendition. Not to mention being weather resistant, along with easy clutch mechanism to switch from AFMF. Having been a long time user of both Canon and Nikon, Ive switched to the OMD EM1 with this glass and havent looked back. Not cheap, but taken in perspective to pro glass prices from the big two, its a bargain. Highly recommended.

I always find the wide angle lens purchase so difficult a decision.I have used the Panasonic 1445mm as my general purpose lens since the G1was released. And more recently on the OMD series camera bodies.I considered the 12mm F2, but after many hours of research I was concernedregarding the often reported corner softness of this lens.So I decided on this 1240mm F2.8 and was purchased from WEX,The construction is so solid with very smooth zoom and focus rings. The image quality is great, and right into the corners. a big improvement over the Panasonic . The quality is not quite as good at 40mm as reported on the the web.I appreciate the close focusing, the FN button and the way the hood locks on to the lens barrel. This lens is a replacement, the first one had a faulty aperture blade and was quicklyreplaced by WEX, Thanks for the great after sales service. So, a very expensive lens, but I am pleased with the performance.

I use this lens with an OMD EM5 II, primarily for landscape photography. It covers most of the focal lengths I tend to shoot in equivalent of 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 80mm. The lens feels great, feels very high quality. I love the manual focus clutch, and the lens hood included, thankfully has a positive click for engaging onto the lens so it wont unscrew on you. Its also reversible as well. The biggest selling point for me on this lens was the fact that it is weathersealed, and its fast. It has excellent sharpness throughout the zoom range as well. The only con I can think of is the bulk its larger than most other MFT lenses, but its not bad… Still way more compact than an equivalent lens in APSC or fullframe. All in all Im very happy with the lens. The only downside is that I cant blame my gear if my photos suck.

I have been waiting to purchase this lens for a while, and I finally did when the price dropped recently. I had hopes that this could be a great allaround lens AND MAYBE my primary goto, walkaround, take anywhere lens when I didnt want to pack a couple primes and have to worry about changing lens while I was out. It comes close, but after a few weeks of use it hasnt lived up to my expectations. For one, its heavy I know theres a lot of glass in there and that is what gives you the resolution and f stop that you want, but it changes the micro camera concept into more of a small DSLR. To me, its not a comfortable sacrifice. Secondly, I havent been that impressed with the low light quality. It definitely doesnt rival any of the primes that I have been using for that purpose and I feel like it cost me a lot of possible shots because of noise or blown out highlightsin a darker theater environment. Accidentally bumping the manual focus ring has cost me some quick focus shots for sure. This will not end up as my goto lens and its weight will keep it off my camera as my default lens, so now I am pondering what its long range purpose will be, and for me thats when I start thinking that even though its a very high quality lens… it might not have a place in my lens lineup. It was wishful thinking that it could accomplish wide landscape, people shots and lowlight evening and not have any flaws. My Bad.

I have never bought a lens this expensive and thought long and hard. I wasnt disappointed as the image quality is in prime lens territory. Build quality is what you would expect at this price. The manual focus ring is excellent when I pull it back it gives me peaking and a magnified view on my EM10 without fiddling with controls. Its a big lens on a body as small as the EM10 and I added the accessory grip, which makes a vast improvement to the handling.

I bought one of these from Adorama and returned it because it was decentered. One side of the photos was sharp, the other very soft. Didnt want the hassle of buying and returning several to get a good one, so I went to a local store and they let me test them in store on my camera. I had to reject FOUR of them before I got a good one. That good one is INCREDIBLY sharp, one of the best zooms I have ever seen. Quality control sucks, though. I have had this issue with several Micro Four Thirds lenses from both Olympus and Panasonic.

This lens has a solid build and feel to it without being too heavy. The zoom range is perfect for everyday use and makes for a good walkaround lens. Wide enough to use indoors as well. With the 2.8 Aperture it creates a nice shallow depth of field. The only negative about this lensand maybe its more on the camera I use but it is long enough that the flash gets cutoff and you can see the outline of the lens when using on camera flash

PROS Great range and very compact vs. Nikon 2470. Manual focus override is brilliant and is a joy to use. Very sharp in center and corners at all focal lengths. I have worked out this lens since I got it. I do a lot of landscape work, and have also tested it out as a portrait lens at the 40mm end. It performs well across the range of focal lengths. Crisp and clear for landscape, but really nice for portraits too. Gets that bokeh. This is a serious, fast, versatile lens which focuses fast. My only complaint is the sizeweight for 43. But still, I use it about half the time was my walking around lens. Would give it 4.5 for that. But as a zoom it is near perfect. So 5.

The first thing I noticed was the weight … I tend to use either the Olympus 45mm 1.8 or the Panasonic 20mm 1.7 on my GH4 and GX7, so it was a bit of a shock putting on the 1240mm. But I needed a zoom lens for video documentary and it was either this or the Panasonic 1235mm. In the end I went for the Olympus. When you pull it back, the focus ring has hard stops and supports repeatable focus which I really need. Focus pulling on most m43 lenses is next to impossible. The Panny has IS, but with my initial tests I managed to get ok handheld footage and on sticks it wont be an issue at all. Im really impressed with the quality of the image. In a perfect world I could get a shallower DOF, but I went with m45 knowing its limitations and I love this lens

This is a fantastic zoom lens. I just purchased it to use with my EM5, after several months of shooting with only the fast and super sharp 12mm f2.0 prime. Im a prosumerenthusiast, not an optics fanatic, but this lens appears every bit as sharp as the 12 mm. Build quality is superb. Low light performance is superb Was able to take a handheld pic of Orion constellation with 2 sec exposure the Oly IS system is amazing. Weather sealing is good used it outside during heavy wet snow and no problems. Zoom ring is smooth with minimal but not no noise. Manual focus ring is a nice touch especially given the sometimes iffy focusing of the EM5. Ergonomically, on the EM5 its a bit big and probably demands that you use one of the optional handgrips. However overall the combo remains pretty well balanced and the visual effect is of serious kit. Might have wished for a slightly longer focal length on the zoom end say 50 mm but thats a minor quibble. I dont think anyone will be disappointed with this lens, especially considering that to get equivalent quality and speed in DXFX format would be twice the price and twice as heavy. Highly recommend.

This is just amazing compared with the usual kit lens. This is one you can glue on to the camera and forget. It is reasonably tough but that is not what you are looking for in something you will look after. Very sharp indeed. Expensive new but a good excellent deal used.

Ive loved this lens for the images it produces, but I barely bumped this and the base that mounts to the lens almost fell apart. Now it has to go be repaired for a pretty penny. Ive had this lens for a few weeks now and am loving it. First, the light weight and compact size of these lenses makes carrying it around a breeze. I am so glad I spurged and bought this lens with my EM1. In nearly 2 months, it has not been off the camera. This lens is easily as good or better than my Canon L glass. The lens is extremely well built and weather sealed as is the EM1. The zoom ring is buttery smooth, yet has enough drag that theres no chance of zoom creep. The focus ring is also smooth. Olympus has incorporated a clever and very convenient method of manual focus. just put the focus ring back, a distance scale is exposed, and the cameralens is in manual focus mode. One drawback to this If you forget and leave the ring in the manual facus position, you might think the cameras auto focus is broken. Dumb, I know, but it has happened to me and others. The front of the lens does extend as it is zoomed, but not by much. The included lens hood snaps on with two lugs on either side. Ive heard others say that the hood was prone to falling off, but Ive not had that problem. The lens cap is solidly made and snaps into the front of the lens by squeezing the two lugs in the front face. Sometimes Ive had a little trouble getting the lens cap to seat properly. The lens also has a lens function button, but Ive not found a good use for it yet.By comparison, I have the Canon 1740 L lens which covers about the same zoom range, although they are for different cameras. While the 1240 f2.8 Pro lens is a bit more expensive, it is smaller, lighter, faster by 1 stop, and it focuses closer and faster. Another example the fullframe Canon 2470 f2.8 L lens has about the same field of view as the 1240 f2.8 Pro. The latter is about half the size and weight, about half the price and every bit as good as the former. So even though the Oly lens seems expensive, it really isnt when you compare it with similar lenses in other formats.Autofocus is very fast, and it is tack sharp, even at f2.8. Im sure it is even better stopped down, but so far the most Ive stopped down was about f3.5. It is easily as sharp as my 45 f1.8, which used to be my goto low light lens, but not any more. If you have decided to purchase the spectacular EM1, you need this lens to go with it.

I think this is the best allaround lense for MFT. For this price to get 24mm80mm focal length with aperture of F2.8 all the way, it is a great deal. Take a half stop from the maximum aperture and you have images as crisp as they get. Its also really robust without being overly heavy.

I purchased the lens for my Panasonic Lumix and am very impressed so far. When I first got it I could not get the AutoFocus to work. Even went ahead and upgraded my firmware… it still did not work. The solution after doing a bit of research was simple just mentioning it here as it is not that obvious. The lens has something called a Manual Focus Cluth. Which is a ring around the middle of the lens, push it back and it changes it to manual, forward to AF. Once I figured it out, the lens is PERFECT. Only minor con is that it is a bit heavy, but then again, it is made of quality materials.

I am not a fan of consumer zooms, they start out slow and end even slower, the image quality is rarely equal to prime lenses and most of them feel cheaply made. But the 1240mm f2.8 is a true pro lens at a very affordable price. It is sharp and reasonably fast, at a constant F2.8, across its entire range. The image quality is right up there with the Olympus primes. It has an extra assignable function button built right in the lens and the same manual focus snap ring used on the Olympus 12mm and 17mm. The lens body is solid metal construction, it is weather resistant, and includes a hood that locks in place. With one of the OMD bodies, this becomes the perfect singlelens kit.

I bought his lens to upgrade from the kit 1442 lens that came with my OMDEM5. the primary reason I bought this was I was missing the f2.8 aperture on the 1442. I have now had the opportunity to use this for a few months and am extremely happy with my choice. The lens is very well constructed I am a fan of well built heave lenses, balances well on the OMDEM5. It is compact but still has enough room for zooming and manual focusing if necessary. The bokeh is also very pleasing. The diaphragm seems well made. I was eyeing this lens for a while and when it showed up on MassDrop, I jumped at it. The shipping was also very quick and I had no trouble getting it delivered in India. Overall very happy with my purchase,

I have used both the Panasonic 1235 f2.8 and the Olympus 1240 f2.8. I much prefer the Olympus as it is everything I look for in a quality zoom. I did not care for the Panasonics feel and build quality and also think the Olympus bests the Panasonic in optical quality. The Olympus has a nice close focusing range and can produce lovely bokeh at times. If I only have space or patience for carrying one lens on my Olympus body, this 1240 is it.

This lens is on my camera more than any other because it is fast and sharp over a very useful zoom range. Also, since I often take pictures in the rain, its splashproof construction, along with my splashproof EM1 means I can work in the rain without any plastic bags covering my equipment. I find the manual focus to be very useful in low light. The autofocus is silent and fast when there is enough light. I do use a .9 neutral density filter during the day when I want a small depth of field. At f2.8, backgrounds can be nicely out of focus while the subject is sharp. Finally, the lens can focus at a very close distance, giving almost macro performance.

Looking for one professional quality lens for my M10 and this one is unbelievably good. The build quality is excellent. This lens is very sharp with wonderful color and contrast. Focus is right on. When I first received it I was a bit disappointed with the size and weight was heftier than I was expecting. But after seeing the results I forgot about the weight. And its not as though it is anywhere near as heavy or big as the lenses I had for my Nikon. Now I dont even think about it. If I could only afford one lens this is the one I would buy. Recently purchased a EM5 Mark II and was very impressed with this very versatile and compact mirrorless. However was not all that happy with the image sharpness and overall quality using the consumer 1442 mm Zuiko lens I bought with it, not much better than any brand X point and shoot. The purchase of the 1240mm f2.8 PRO lens solved that and then some. On 8 x 10 prints I could not discern any significant difference between the EM5 MII and a Nikon D610 full frame, 2485 mm f3.5 for walk around and landscape images and came very close to my Nikkor 105mm F2.8 closeups on the D610. The full frame Nikon will surpass it of course in enlargements. Bottom line This lens is a must have if you will be purchasing an Olympus mirrorless you will not be happy with anything less on this camera.

My first MFT lens since changing from Nikon FF DSLR DX lenses too. This is one of the smoothest action, crisp lenses I have ever had. Its as good as some of my Nikon primes The f2.8 thru the zoom range is excellent. Color edition bokeh it is right up there with the best. OK its heavy but not as heavy as my Nikkor 18200 so since I found I never used the 200 end works great. Its expensive worth it Splash proof too.

This lens is great. The build quality is really nice All metal with weather sealing. Nice milled knurls on the zoom and focus ring. Its a weighty treat. Its very small for what it is a 2480mm equivalent f2.8 zoom lens. Sharpness is hilariously good. Wide open at all focal lengths, the sharpness is incredible, what I would expect from a stopped down Canikon equivalent. Sharpness at 40mm is not quite as good as other focal lengths, but still incredible. Stop down to f4 and you reach maximum sharpness through to f8. Autofocus speed is lightning fast on my EM1 in all light except zero light. Nothing much more to say about that. The manual focus clutch ring is a great feature. I wish all new Zuiko lenses had this feature. A top quality metalplastic hybrid petal type lens hood is included in the box, as is a presumable faux leatherette carrying bag. The lens cap is also a metalplastic hybrid center pinch type, and very beautiful. This lens looks great, and produces even better looking images. Might be a bit heavy for anyone running with a Pen body, or even maybe the EM10, but its a great match for the EM1.

At first glance, it felt heaver and larger than my current micro 43 lenses, but after taking it out on the streets, the hills, and events has changed my thoughts. As I own a 12mm and a 35mm prime lens, I find this lens more convenient with zooming from 12 to 40mm without compromising the fstop of 2.8. The manual focus clutch is perfect when I want to shoot either auto or manual focus without going through the menu. As for the weathersealing, it has brought me more confidence to take my EM5ii out in any conditions, and I look forward to use it both recreation and commercially. Well done Olympus.

I purchased this lens to use with an EM10 mk2, thinking it would be mounted 90 of the time. However, I found that it was bigger and heavier than expected and didnt feel secure in my hand, given the small bump of a grip. I was pleased with the build quality, features, and picture quality, but ultimately returned it and purchased a few prime lens instead. I couldnt justify buying an addon grip, and adding weight and bulk to a camera that I liked because it was light and small.

I recently bought an OMD EM5 camera with the 1442mm EZ zoom for travel because my Nikon D610 with a 2470mm lens attached just seemed a bit too big and heavy for family vacations. I love the compactness of the 1442mm EZ, and still use it when I need a compact camera that out performs my iPhone, but the sharpness of the EZ zoom just wasnt enough to persuade me to leave my Nikon at home. However, with this 1240mm f2.8 lens attached, Im not forced to compromise on image quality when using my OMD instead of my Nikon. This lens is sharp, fast, light, well made, and a joy to use. I tested the image quality against my Nikon and with this lens, the Olympus can really hold up. There are advantages that a full frame sensor provide that a u43 just cant its physics, but with this lens Im very satisfied with the image quality I can get from my OMD. If like me you are interested in a small and light high quality camera and lens, I highly recommend an Olympus OMD and the Olympus 1240mm f2.8 lens.
