Ive had several media players including Android and other well known names. The Nvidia Shield TV is by far the best. When I received mine and began to set it up it immediately started updating not only the firmware but the software also. It updated the remote and the gaming controller in minutes. Other Android tv boxes Ive owned you simply got what was inside the box. No new Android updates for the operating system or anything else. Ive seen other reviews saying this was the best and you pay a little bit more for it but you get what you pay for. Its smooth operation and streaming abilities are flawless. Walmart also beat the others prices and I got free 2 day shipping also. You cant beat this deal.GTIM

A versatile product that can cater for beginners to the tech savvy. Customise it for your needs. Easy to setup and navigate. Only thing holding it back is poor google home integration it works, but not as well as it should. Hopefully future firmware updates will improve this quality of life feature. Overall, you ought not be disappointed, whatever your needs.

Pros I have had other android media boxes in the past but this box excels them all. It has the very latest android firmware installed with pre installed media streaming apps. It looks and feels classy and is so easy to setup and use. I purchashed a keyboard mouse for use with this which is good but the standard nvidia remote control is very good, especially the microphone. The picture quality, sound and speed is second to none. This box is more expensive than alot of android media boxes out there but in my opinion, its money well spentCons None

This is the best Android TV box available no questions. We have the mi box and the h96 pro both are good for streaming but theres nothing like the Shield for streaming and gaming. Have ours setup with a 2tb wd passport external hard drive running multiple kodi builds and many TV and movie Apks iptv Apks and retro gaming on ours. Go from the Atari 2600 Saga NES to the GeForce games and Android games. Have aptoid and droidadmin to expand on play store. TV app repo is a must have to load apk short cuts to home screen easily. Hooked up a ps3 controller for 2nd player you also could use a Xbox controller Ive read. Saving for a 2nd one for the other TV.

Great product, get this dont mess with others like I tried returned them all. This things fast and good wifi connectivity. Chromecast works great, IR remote works like Bluetooth point anywhere Have it running to an HDMI converter then YPrPb out to old Plasma tv, great picture. Only complaint is the volume control on the remote way too sensitive, Nvidia needs to implement a push button for volume instead of slider. 4.99 5 stars.
bigj0rdan –
The Nvidia Shield is the best lightweight streaming box that I have used. It plays 4K smoothly with everything I throw at it. The remote could do with some extra controls, but apart from that, I have no complaints. I now have a Shield for both TVs in the house.

I purchased the NVIDIA PRO version i.e. with internal 500Gb instead of 16Gb of this product about 5 months ago.It is indeed a very powerful streaminggaming device and everything will go well till you get your first mandatory software called shieldexperience update. My device was working properly till ShieldExperience SE update 7.2, that was released 2 weeks ago. The update is full of bugs affecting thousands shield owners worldwide just check the GeForce forums.Im one the victims my Nvidia Shield PRO does not boot any more, it is broken after the update 7.2.I contacted Nvidia support to solve the problem. In the beginning they instruct me on how to factoryreset the device and erase all my data but it didnt work. My device was totally bricked Next step they offered to replace the broken Nvidia SATv by a new one, and in principle I was happy with that solutionWhat a disappointment instead of sending a brandnew replacement device, I got a shabby refurbished Nvidia SATv full of scratches and clearly misused by the previous owner.I bought the most expensive edition of the Nvidia SATv PRO device, and kept it in pristine conditions. The device is broken because of Nvidias careless softwarerelease methodology. Please send me a brandnew device. It is just not fair that I get stuck with a refurbished subpar deviceIm very disappointed with Nvidia Support.

This is the ultimate streaming device This should be in your living room or entertainment area. Yes, there are cheaper products out there that can do similar things, but I think its money well spent if youre invested in streaming. Theres just so much this device can do, and it handles it like a pro. I never have any problems with opening apps or switching between them. Everything loads up quick, and I never have to wait around for buffering. Id recommend researching Android TV a little bit see what its about, and if does what you need, the NVIDIA Shield is the device to get Again, check for specific app compatibility, but you can get Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, and even Amazon Video. If you still have cable, depending on your service provider, you can still get access to certain channels apps like TBS, TNT, or ESPN. There is also a selection of games available to download and play, both through Android and NVIDIAs own selection not a selling point for all, but great to have, especially for kids. Youve got access to music through Spotify, Pandora, and obviously Google Play music. Since it is Android, you also get access to the Google Assistant. The only downside to this is the price, but once you see how well this thing runs, its understandable. Id seriously recommend it to anyone who can afford it

The Nvidia Shield is an absolutely perfect Android box with breathtaking sound, graphics and network performance.I run Netflix, Youtube, IPTV and Chromecast through my box each performing brilliantly and responsive in seconds.I can stream full 4k videos from any source in seconds, zero buffering or lag.I also play occassional games streaming through the Shield and I really do not see any less performance than Xbox or Playstation. With a single device our every single entertainment need has been met one of the best purchases I have ever made.I also love the fact the remote does not need line of sight and works via network.

Pros Build quality is generally good if a little plasticky. XPMCKodi are lightning fast. Plays a wide range of video and audio formats. Picture and sound are excellent. Easy to set up. Looks great.Cons Lack of customisation. Cant change the wallpaper Stock launcher is terrible, no good alternatives without rooting. Doesnt come with a stand. Doesnt come with HDMI lead. Remote is too small and thin, if you sat on it, it would be dead. Gamepad is not good for anything other than games. Only 2x USB sockets, they should have made the unit slightly bigger and added 4x USB sockets.
Abad –
Great Android TV box. Very easy to set up. Lightning fast processor. Great for gaming.Well packaged and delivered quickly. Two year warranty from John Lewis.Improvements suggestedBattery loading cassette for remote control not robust or user friendly, Ordinary AAAAA batteries would be niceGame controller has no OffOn switch or charging led.

I have it on good authority that the NVIDIA hardware is very powerful. It was fast enough for normal use, including many games. However, Android and the overall UI here is confusing and hard to use. I encountered plenty of bugs too, like the setting to turn on the network file server that taunts you by disappearing until you google it and find out you have to first turn on the Plex server that you dont want and then reboot while doing a headstand. For that matter, we couldnt make it through more than about thirty seconds of TV in Plex without the Plex app crashing too. The remote is actually pretty bad needs real volume buttons, dedicated playpause, and bring back the headphone jack from the older model. Volume control with this device is mysterious and ultimately broken. You can plug a keyboard inbut oh wait, I cant use it to enter passwords randomly in some apps Amazon, looking at you. Finally, the Android TV smart phone app for iOS pales in comparison to the Roku apps in basically every way. You can say oh thats Plexs fault or oh thats Amazons fault and on and on. OK, sure, maybe theyre the ones responsible for their apps. But ultimately, if everything you want to run is buggy, no matter whose fault it is, why would you buy a box where all the apps are buggy If NVIDIA wants to sell these things, these issues need to become NVIDIAs andor Googles problems at some point. I doubt you want this product. Buy something else a Roku, a Raspberry Pi, a little NAS you can put Plex on, a gaming PC. Maybe no one of those will do everything this box can, but the Shield TV ends up being so frustrating that you wont want to use it for anything. Sorry I cant write more now, I have to go box up the Shield TV and it just started Google Play Music at full volume for no apparent reason.
Lee –
Pros Super fast. App availability increasing though you can use sideload app to launch any apps from Google play store. Also use FS file explorer to obtain any app in APK form as a direct download. Slender remote, 4k video, 5ghz WiFi, 1gb Ethernet.. a all round excellent piece of kit.Cons Uses a standard hard drive. One improvement should be the inclusion of a solid state drive.
Dan –
Pros The absolute pinnacle in android TV home entertainment, plenty of video apps to cater for all your media needs, while the play store provides a plethora of great games and emulators for a huge catalogue of retro gaming via apps like RetroX. Add GeForce now streaming for all the latest PC games which run flawlessly and youll never need another device. The new pad is fantastic and its compatible with PS4 or Xbox One pads via Bluetooth.Cons The only thing I didnt like was that Nvidia have removed the sd card slot which they had on the 2015 model, which is a shame but not a major issue.

The best is NOT an understatement. This product is just brilliant. Does everything you would want at speed. AWESOME

Most smart TVs have a limited amount of apps you can use. For example, I purchased the latest Panasonic oled TV a month ago and yet it does not have Disney Plus and a phone call to Panasonic concluded that there was no plans to have that app for the TV. I use Plex with movies etc stored on my Nas. The Panasonic and my 4 year old Samsung will not play 4k without stuttering etc ie you cannot watch original 4k content. Enter stage left the Nvidia shield. Both above problems are solved and there are many more apps I can use to enhance my viewing convenience. This is not to mention games and I will not, but my son is over the moon with this facet of the shield. I am still experimenting with it I hope I can load Chrome as this would allow quick browsing without using phone or pc.

I have large 4K and 1080p files I play from my external hard drive and every app I tried, Kodi, MX Player and VLC, had the audio out of sync with the video after awhile. I chose bitstreaming in the settings of the Shield as well as within the apps and only one app actually sent the HD audio codecs to my receiver, but the other two didnt. This is great for people who dont have smart TVs and those who mainly stream from online sources. However, those who are into lossless, high bitrate video and audio will be inevitably disappointed I will go back to viewing movies from my external HDDs on my HTPCs without all of these problems.

The NVidia Shield TV is the perfect media streamer. Ignoring the games controller which is very cool, its easy to setup with a reasonable knowledge of your network and the peripherals TV, amp etc. I run Kodi, and as a streamer, the Shield is fast and faultless. What I really chose this for is futureproofing. Nvidia maintain the firmware as an ongoing thing, and that includes Android updates. My earlier devices were stuck on whatever OS they were shipped with.
abacera –
Some say it is still the best media player available… agree. Does everything an Android TV can do and it does it well. Being able to control it with your TV remote CEC or AnyNet via HDMI It is fast It plays everything, 4K and HDR and 10bit color TrueHD Dolby no problem It allows to stream play any AAA PC game in the TV if you have PC with a GTX card, better than Steam streaming Easy to expand storage with USB Android Games Nvidia Games are pretty decent Controller is as compatible as a XBox 360 THE most compatible controller Microphones to control it with voice, Google Assistance works great Negative things It doesnt do the dishes
billcsho –
I bought it mainly for the media streaming function. This is my 9th media player and the fifth that is Android based including FireTV Stick and FireTV2. The performance is much better than all other media players I have used although it is also the most expensive one and double the cost of the next one. So far I have not had any problem in side loading Android apps which was my original concern with Android TV OS. I added an external SSD pulled from an old laptop as device storage and I added a keyboard touchpad remote to it to supplement the limitation of this unit. I have to say not all USB 3.0 hub or external drive case are compatible with Shield TV. Fortunately I have multiple ones at home that I can try. I am very happy with it right now and hesitate to update to Oreo OS. One minor problem I found is the slow charging of the game controller. The gaming experience is good, particularly with the free GeForce Now subscription and plenty of free games.

Replaced a Roku Premier. Loved the Roku interface, and generally loved the product. Unfortunately, if you have a sophisticatedcomplex Home Theater setup or really any kind of sink device that is both capable and automatically sensesoptimizes to the best of the vast array of source device video formatsi.e. HDR, DV, 444, 422, 420, combinations thereof, etc., the Rokus HDMI handshake issues are just intolerablewhich is unfortunate. Its not totally their faultNetflix and other streaming apps are as much to blame for their incredibly unnecessary and annoying video auto startpreview featurePIA that cant be disabled which is even more inexcusablethey probably realize EVERYONE would disable it so they force it on you and dont even realize the issues it creates for certain technology setups creating the need for an HDMI handshake with the sink device. But the bottom line, it became unusable. The Shield suffers from no such problems. But the tradeoff is you have to manually optimize the sink and source device since the Shield requires you set the video format manually. On the good side, it does provide something like 60 different video formats. So odds are it will work with just about any sink device. And since I despise all things Apple, this was the best alternative heavy duty consumer friendly streamer, imho.

Pros Does what it says on the tinCons Not a fault of the shield but Google only make certain apps available direct or installed on the Shield out of the box. But most normal everyday apps I use can be installed by other backdoor routes. ie Google Earth, File managers general items that normally come as stock with Android devices that we use every day and rely on to get things done. Just a pain when first purchased learning how to accomplish these tasks. Thank God for online Nvidia forums user guides and existing owners instructional videos nowadays

Had numerous android boxes of varying expense and this blows them all out of the water. Fast snappy menus, super quick. If you like gaming you can get emulators for Nintendo and stream from a pc to it. these can be tricky to set up Built in Google chrome cast is excellent for my older TV. Built in Google home with a mic in the remote. Game pad is solid and charge lasts for days.

I absolutely love my NVIDIA Shield I would highly recommend to anyone who wants one of, if not the best streaming Android box. Its super easy to set up and use. You can be streaming in about 5 minutes once you have it out of the box. This makes my 3rd Shield Ive bought for my household as I have added more TVs.
Mark –
Pros Takes time to set up, but with the right apps installed its amazing. 4K chromecast is built in. Nvidia GeForce now and Steams game stream work best over a wired connection 1010. Gaming over WiFi is more like 610.Cons Limited selection of apps to download on Google Play Store eg no web browser. Youll need to add an alternative store like Aptoide to get the most out of the Shield. Voice control with google assistant currently has limited features.

IPTV will most likely become illegal in Canada sooner or later. The taking of internetbased TV channel content without paying any licence and redistribution fees, and reselling them to us, has already been disputed to the CRTC in Canada and there are several articles by major newspapers or news services, which suggest that it is definitely going to be stopped one day. It could happen in a few months, or a few years. Having said that, the NVidia Shield does have all the speed and power that everyone praises it for, and more RAM than almost all other IPTV boxes out there. I think a new one just came out with 4GB of RAM but most have 1 or 2GB, which may not be enough for 4K streaming if required. It rarely had issues of freezing. I played only car racing games but the games were a bonus, not the main purpose of this device for me. IPTV depends a lot on your providers quality. None of the Canadian channels I got were HD They were all 480p or may be 576p at best I had to go to the USA to get the HD versions of TSN, CBS, Sportnet which is by Rogers, a Canadian company Thats pathetic. I know there are other IPTV providers out there which can give possibly HD content but guess what Even the original TV channel websites like CBC or CTV dont have FULL HD streaming shows I just watched a show and it was at 576p from the CTV website. Also, your favourite weekly TV show may work one week, but the stream may fail the next week, causing you to get a network error and miss it. So I decided to forego a questionable service like IPTV and just stream the TV shows I usually watch from the Canadian TV channels websites. No big deal. I almost always recorded them on my PVR when I had cable TV anyways, Recording IPTV is also extremely limited. You cannot schedule recurring weekly shows for example. If there are apps which can do that, I didnt have the patience to search, because the IPTV world is a mess of buggy, subpar apps, with a few good ones mixed in. This requires a lot of time like WEEKS even months of learning and spending time on the internet. Then there is the infamous EPG the electronic programming guide. 2550 of channels were not listed in my providers EPG. Yet my IPTV provider was chosen No. 1 in Canada for servers, by a website. Thats why I went with it. You can find other EPG links URLs or xmltv files on the internet, but that would takes enormous amount of time and patience. I had the Shield TV for 2.5 weeks, so its not like I didnt try to learn all I could about it and about IPTV. After spending 4 HOURS and another 23 hours more the next few days, no matter what I tried, I could not get Shield to see the contents of my network attached storage drive folders nor my PC folders on my home network. I could see the folder but clicking on it did nothing no errors neither. I emailed NVidia and they never really solved the problem just offered a few lame indifferent and arrogant suggestions about troubleshooting which were the SAME ones as on their website So NVidia technical support is garbage Looks like NVidia has joined the ranks of thousands of famous companies which make so much money, that they dont care about properly supporting their PAYING customers, to which they owe their existence The navigation is also very complicated on the Shield TV. You cannot just use their remote control or game pad. Some apps require you to go up to the top for the main menu, which cannot be accessed with any button on the remote, unless you scroll up to the top of your TV channel playlist and then after about 50 clicks, reach the settings menu You need to use the Shield Android app on your phone and use the mouse function to navigate and the keyboard function to type URLs, passwords, quickly. Otherwise, it would take you like 12 minutes to type a password using the onscreen keyboard and remote control cursor , when it

I know there is a new model out in the US which was my only hesitation to buying this for Xmas but Im so stoked I did. I have a 55 4K TV that was smart once upon a time but due to LG not supporting their products past 12 months I needed a new solution. 4K Netflix, Disney looks mean and produces better audio via my soundbar than previous. Ive sideloaded a whole bunch of apps that are usually just for android phones…all work well. Downloaded an app so I can airplay the screen of my iphone and stream apple music. And finally have wired the connection to my modem so I can Steam Link and stream games from Steam and that works well too Mean.

Connects well, Google compatible, but controller is a touch sensitive volume strip that almost moves on its own and jumps hi and lo. Difficult to adjust anyway. Havent found an alternate controller yet that doesnt require a USB dongle. Does have 2 additional USB ports for that kind of connection.

Great device. I moved from a FireTV Box and I love it. However, I need to buy an app called Bluetooth settings to limited Bluetooth devices I have paired. I guess someone in my apartment building owns one also and was trying to pair a BT device to my box. A week after I got this I went to watch something and kept getting a paring request. Install apps were easy but you do need to know how to sideload stuff. If you are a newbie then watch some Youtube videos. Unlike FireTV you can install from a browser. All I needed was Puffin TV and I was able to get what I needed.

Replaced a chromecast with this device and its so much better. Faster in terms of CPU power but also the cabled network means netflix and Plex dont buffer before starting, its just on. The unit automatically switches the HDMI like chromecast, responds to Google home just as well, if not better and automatically powers down and up extremely quick so fast its not an issue. Brilliant play back quality over Plex with full surround sound through the reciever. 3D Benchmarks put it faster than any other Android device. Oh and it can chromecast from your other devices. Impressive unit. Highly recommend.

NVIDIA shield is crazy fast and smooth. the 4k quality in netflix looks better than my xbox one. ive been using the Nvidia ge force games some free and some i bought on steam and works so smoothly with my internet connection of 150mbps download. you need atleast 50mbps for 1080p at 60fps. This is literally my first time playing PC games with high settings and without lag. you also dont have to worry about hard drive since you dont need to download the game fully to play. the installation finishes in one second and done you can play.
potgiel –
On the positive side, it plays most video formats. But it is difficult to set up CEC for smooth integration with my Samsung Q7 TV. The remote control performance is poor as the distance increases, almost as if IR is used. Remote control commands are often delayed by seconds Unit performance often suffers from response time problems, aggravated or caused by delays from remote control.
jfox –
Ive been known to go for an older model on some items, and this was just such a case. My TVs are 1080P Im quite satisfied with them until such time as they eventually fail and would need to be replaced. I dont have 4K service here.so the 4K support features of allied devices are superfluous and irrelevant. Also had no interest in Alexa which could be listening in on all sorts of things etc., so those later features are not needed or wanted here. In regard to these Nvidia Shield models, I preferred having the microSD card slot to the dual USB ports. So, this earlier model happened to be the right fit for me. It has been a very good product, reliable, superior to competing brands in this category, and it well covers the functionality I was looking for. Im seeing the latest supposedly greatest Shield models going for up to 400., and thinking WHY I spent much less than half of that, including the shipping.
Chris –
Pros Good device with lots of addon features and the ability to attach a USB HDD to expand the internal storage. I purchased to use as a Plex serverstreaming device. Worked well for any video that didnt need transcoding but struggled to transcode a single stream live TV feed to a single device. Ended up replacing with a Synology DS918 NAS to run Plex insteadCons Unfortunately the first device didnt work but this was bad luck more than anything
Antonio –
Pros Easy to install. Small items and it doesnt take lot space . Remote control and controller are great. The graphics is excellent. I only bought a month ago and I still explore, but defenetly I recommended.Cons As I dont have 4K tv problely the sound is not show is best, I have FHD. The only thing if you buy direct from America youll get free GeForce games otherwise you have to be members and pay monthly. But sti lots free games As is an America product it hasnt Fife which is my favorite football game.
Steven –
Pros Industry leading performance. Tasks are performed very easily and everything loads in a few seconds with no glitching or image deterioration.Cons Touch remote, the volume feature on the remote is by far the most useless thing I have ever seen on a remote. It can turn the shield up and down from your pocket while your hands are no where near it. The price. Although its the best on the market. Is it really worth the price After using it now for many months. I would price it, around 20 cheaper.
Allen –
Pros Android TV operating system is fantastic. Very powerful and very user friendly technology. I now have 2 and recommend to every geek I know. I even stream my online games from my gaming pc or even Nvidias own cloud gaming service. Battle net, steam servers and Uplay even. Plex works great. Primarily this is used for streaming Netflix, amazon prime, and Youtube in 4K. The list of uses goes on and on. Highly recommendedCons None that I can think of, and Ive tried.

its awesome. I had a hard time convincing myself it was worth spending that much to upgrade from my chinese 4k box, but this is on a whole other level. For one, it is highly refined in how it interacts with your system. Turning it on will turn on my receiver and tv automatically, and if i forget it on, it will go to sleep trigging my reliever and tv to turn off. I can just click cast on any device in the house and it will wake up, my tv and receiver will turn on to the cast. Amazingly smooth…

Loaded Kodi, Cinema APK and Downloader onto unit. Was never able to get a network connection on this after market app add ons. Deleted everything and tried again. Same result. Did a factory reinstall and tried a 3rd time, same result. Went online to try to find tech support for the problem and zero, nothing out there to help me. As long as I activated the apps that came loaded, no problem. It was loading apps from Google Play or side loading that I ran into problems. I dont have the technical skills or know how to find a work around. So ended up sending the unit back. Wish I could have figured it out or gotten some tech support as promised to be a fantastic option to other Android boxes. So if youre not a bit of a techie, and youre wanting to use this box to use Kodi and Cinema APK, may not be the best option for you.
Paul –
Pros Best streaming box currently available. Works well as a gaming device too.Powerful, featurerich and the resolution will do any TV justice. Quality rechargeable gaming controller and svelte aluminium remote which works on 2 x CR 2032 batteries easy to replace and claimed by NVIDIA to last about a year in normal use. Intuitive in use and installs in a few minutes.Cons Very little. Play store apps for Android TV still a bit thin on the ground, youll need to look elsewhere for a decent browser for example, but GoogleYou Tube will yield workarounds for pretty much anything you need.
Anthony –
Pros Nvidia Shield is still the best Android TV that you can get. It is Amazing for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, Plex, etc. Plus, it doubles up as an impressive 4K Chromecast with builtin Google Assistant. Im also very impressed with Gamestream and GeForce NOW. While Tegra processors are not exactly new, they still pack enough punch to run Emulators and great Android Games.Cons Lots of limitations with Android Software. Adoptable storage performance crippled by encryption, limited write access to external storage. Network shares are exposed using SMBv1. Remote can lag and become irresponsible. Lack of software, lack of separate user profiles, buggy Plex Server implementation and several regressions every time that you update.
Jonathan –
Pros For playing media files and emulation, a tough system to beat, if you check YouTube reviews, people even prefer this to the Xbox One as a media hub. It has a lot more functionality as an Android device and is basically a mini power PC.Cons My Nvidia Shield would lose picture or sound when playing movies from a connected hard drive even after the latest firmware and software update. I might have had a faulty unit, but my Raspberry Pi 3B is not as powerful but is rock solid stable and doesnt crash. All I needed the Shield for was to play media from connected storage but it failed at that due to its instability as I said, I might have had a faulty unit.
Ryan –
Pros I love Nvidia products, I had the previous shield, loved it. Thought Id buy a second and this one is of a much poorer quality, smaller, more plastic, looks cheaper. Only thing better is the shape of the new pad but feels cheaper and doesnt light up like the last one. At least you can game with this padCons The new box is faulty that is why I cant recommend. This box turns itself off all the time. Mid gaming, mid watching films. They say it is an error with google location but this is a lie. I honestly feel this is a manufacturer fault Im looking to replace mine and if that one fails I want a refund. Look online for reviews before you buy this box and youll see many people have this same problem. Cant possibly nvidia stream games with this issue.
Anonymous –
I have a streaming PC hooked up to my TV to watch Netflix, HBO Now, A Prime. Started to see some issues with streaming quality. Was going to do a PC upgrade but figured would try Shield instead. Man am i glad i did. This thing streams movies and shows like a champ. It supports most of the popular streaming apps out there. Vudu, Netflix, HBO Now, Sling, A Prime, YoutubeGoogle movies are the ones I use the most. For the price and what I wanted, you cant beat this. PC Upgrade or a new mini PC would have cost much more.

The remote does not require charging, but instead uses a small coin battery. Prototype fancy features seem to replace basic functions that would have improved the overall experience like volume BUTTONS, ONOFF switch, or a more comfortably sized remote. Overall score 45, above average. Not a problem with Nvidia, but Android TV is only customizable to a point. Applications installed using an apk dont show up on the homepage, but are in the app list which takes longer to access. Also note the Netflix TV app will autoplay a preview with audio when hovering over a selection, making browsing annoying.
nmc124 –
Setup was easy. The device is smaller than expected but packs a punch. The only reason I am giving a 4 star is because GeForce Now which hosts all of the best games is in Beta free and there is a waiting list. Nothing like being excited about a new device to have to wait to take full advantage of it. The game controller is similar to the xbox one controller. It could use an LED light to let you know if its charging, charged, or turned on. Nvidia says to navigate to the accessory in the settings tab. User experience is pretty intuitive. Overall very pleased
Benin Clarion –
Definitely worth buying No China TV boxes comes close to this Easy to setup and operate with the ease of navigation through use of shield remote. Has a very different google play interface which may confuse other android box users. This is the only reason for a 4 star rating. Sideloading media apps has to be done in order to install and create menu app shortcuts. Best used with a wireless keyboard and mouse like a Rii mini i8 if you prefer typing out your search inquiries and browsing the net. Wifi connection is blazing fast, nearly as fast as a wired connection does. Android interface is very smooth and very much like a game console.

That guy blabbing about IPTV wasted his money on this device. For me, Its for Netflix, YouTube and of course Gaming. Afraid to waste thousands of dollars on future proofing your gaming PC Then how about using this little guy to stream games from Nvidia own servers. Ensure you have fast internet speeds and even a wired ethernet to reduce any input lag. You are set to game well into the future. You can even stream your existing games I love this thing

Upgraded my Samsung Smart TV with NVIDIA Shield and that made huge difference. Before even with Evolution Kit my model is upgradable it was slow, sometime even froze so I had to restart it. Now I removed Evolution Kit and use NVIDIA instead of Smart features of TV. It amazingly convenient, blazingly fast, has international keyboard for search YouTube. It remember where you stop watching something on YouTube and when next time you turn it on, it just continue from this place without any manipulations with remote. Fantastic all I can say. This is the only streaming box youll ever need for streaming live tv and video on demand.Simple to install the major apps such as Netflix, Amazon Video, Kodi, Plex, BBC iPlayer, YouTube and ITV Hub, while others can be found on the Google Play Store or you can cast other apps not available thanks to the inbuilt Chromecast Ultra.Using Chromecast will give you access to Now TV, All4 and My5 among other services from your phone or tablet. The picture quality is excellent and youll rarely ever see buffering if you have a decent broadband connection. In effect youre getting the best of Android TV and Chromecast in one box.

Pros Most powerful media player on the market with a lot of headroom to be able to stay fully functional for years to come unlike most smart devices that are overwhelmed after a year of updates.Very fast and turns TV on and off with the unit if desired.Excellent MKV 24p content playback and supports all the Subs etc.Nice and small, very fast boot into use time. Plays nice with external HDDs, doesnt mess up their file structure when swopping between this device and a windows device for adding content.Bought to replace WDTV units for local content playback.Cons Reliance on having a Google account, no option to skip and have reduced functionality. If you are buying to play back local content only, you will still need to have and use a Google account.Setting up KODI for local playback was a real pain but once done, or you already know how, then its either a one off issue or not one at all.The only real issue at present for those using the device to play back local media is that the Shield does not properly support 25fps 30fps playback. It plays at 5060 and does NOT pulldown correctly resulting in skipping when viewing this type of content. There are a couple of setting s in KODI advanced setup for this but it doesnt work perfectly unlike on a device that can handle it.

Pros This is a cool and awesom bit of technology. Android apps work well and its powerful for a lot of good quality native games and apps. Then theres the ability to use quite a few games processed and streamed from your PC with nVidia GTX card. If you subscribe to GeForceNOW you can connect to nVidia servers and stream games directly at 1080p. Its very flexible and also great for TV streaming from Netflix, Amazon etc. not nowTV. If you have your media on a server Plex, VLC, Kodi all work. Theres loads more app options such as Spotify and many more. nVidia also appear to be active in updating features and software.Cons The GeForceNOW subscription could be cheaper or include more games within the price.

Great idea of a box hampered by a combination of hardware and software bugs. Unit has issues connecting and staying connected to the 5GHz wireless network, turns out it only works with certain 5GHz channel. The native UI appears to be rendered in 1080p and interpolated when connected to a 4K output, resulting in blurry text and UI elements. Apparently there is a manual fix by going into the debug mode and executing some terminal commands. No frame rate and dynamic range switching matching the content, not ideal but boxes of similar price range read Apple TV 4K does it wonderfully. I do like the idea of having the ability to load various apps not available on the competing platform read Apple TVs Looking at you Spotify, but the various hardware and software limitations ruins the experience just hours into setting it up before calling it quits. Its a decent box if youre happy with the limitations, otherwise keep an eye out for the next NVIDIA Shield revisioniteration.

I have had The Shield TV now for a couple of weeks and a lot of time to play around with it, this is the best android TV Android box made so far.It is very simple easy to set up. I would suggest to purchase a separate HDD or a Flash USB Stick something above 64gb because the storage space does get taken away especially if youre a gamer and are installing a lot of apps.It has however, played all my files in my HDD with excellent quality speed. From initial turnon it performs every action very fast and the ability to easily customise the menus screens and apps is excellent. The voice control on selecting YouTube clips is amazing it really does work. Before purchase I took some time researching what android box to purchase, and yes this is expensive but bear In mind you pay for what you getTrust me this is the most versatile piece of hardware I have ever purchased, the Shield TV Box has so far proven to be an excellent purchase and well worth the money, do not be fooled be its small footprint. The quality of packaging is as good as any other highend piece of kit I have purchased.Purchase from John Lewis dont forget the 2 years Guarantee.Overall just cannot fault it, well done Nvidia.

Great product for streaming 4k hdr movies, television shows ect. Also if your a casual gamer you can stream games via the Nvidia server in 4k hdr as long as you have the right internet speed and a 4k hdr compatible television. If more extreme gaming is needed you can stream games from your PC providing your PC has a Nvidia graphics card installed . In my opinion well worth the higher price range die to its multi purpose functions.

I was excited to get this after the recommendation of a friend. The remote stopped working after a few days. I didnt see anywhere for a battery. I looked online and there wasnt much help only talk about interference from a HDMI cable or other devices. I put it on the floor away from the AppleTV and DVD player…I took it to another house and attached to a TV with a different HDMI cable and no other devices. Same problem…remote doesnt work. I contacted Best Buy but it looks like they just printed a return label. I would like an exchange. Preferably they can send me one and I can return this one in the same box.

Pros Very fast and very smooth. Runs Steam brilliantly and emulation is mostly awesome GameCube games have never looked so good. Fantastic bit of kit, especially for the priceCons Only has 16gb builtin storage and only likes SanDisk ultra USB 2.0 storage. No built in browser. Can be a tad fiddly to use at times without a keyboard and mouse but you can get around that by installing the Nvidia shield app on your phone

I would rate it The best TV box I have come across over the years. It works well, and playing Video games has NO lag and the NEW game controller is perfect with great battery life. Remote is Very Nice Quality made. It is an excellent TV Box for streaming pretty much anything you want to do.PROS1. Great price at 159.99 Gaming edition on 112620182. Performance A3. Supports Many External 2.5 standard HDD NO External Power Required 4. Small Form Factor5. Nvidia Support UpdatesCONS1. MUST have INTERNET and GOOGLE account JUST to SETUP. NO WAY TO BY PASS THIS2. NO WAY TO CHANGE LAUNCHER OR CUSTOMIZED THE DESKTOP.3. ONLY 16GIG ROM would have thought at least 32 gig4. NO Micro SD CARD SLOT5. NO USB 3.06. NOT Enough USB Ports7. Would have given it 5 STARS if Owners could Fully customize or USE the BOX with out being REQUIRED to be connected to INTERNET and Have a GOOGLE account.8. Should have full control over BOX since I OWN it.

I had a Roku Ultra 2016 for a year and I was continuously frustrated by it being annoyingly slow in 4K mode. Examples 1. when playing a new YouTube video, the stream starts with at least a 23 seconds delay. the video isnt delayed though but chopped off. 2. when in Great Courses Plus, transitioning to the video details page takes always 3 seconds I timed it. Additionally, as you can read from most professional reviewers, the interface is dated at least 4 years old in my experience and its usability is lagging behind. Shield doesnt have any of those problems. Yes, it is at least twice the price in fact. But its buttery smooth and doubles as a mobile gaming platform Android if you are into such things. Im not and so I didnt get the controller for it. Downsides some parts of the UI show old Android progress bars think of 5.0Lollipop era.

Shield performs very good compared to other boxes that I had. Is very fast. Downside box is useless for games. You need to register for shield Now beta that is free for now. It can takes weeks if not months until they write and accept your new account… if they do Do not buy it by thinking you can play out of the box right away. But if you need just a Kodi box thats the way to go… Tip just buy any box with the new S922X chip build in. They come the shield very close in performance.

The Nvidia Shield is a great device and is blazing fast when it isnt crippled by software updates. Ive only had it for a month and after updating both the Shield and remote software the remote often loses connectivity with the Shield. Sometimes it is minor and just has a 510 second lag in input. But recently my remote will completely disconnect from the Shield. Luckily I have the Shield controller gamepad which I have to use as a backup. But now when I try to reconnect the remote, the Shield doesnt even detect the remote. To reconnect the remote I have to unpair the remote and restart the shield or just wait until the remote wants to work again. I can only imagine how much worse it could be for those who dont have the controller. For hardware this expensive, I expected more from Nvidia.
eblanc2010 –
ITs great but definitely needs a tiny bit of tweaking. Its not like other streaming tv packs plug and play. But the options here are 10 times better. You can do a LOT more with Nvidia shield that with any other streaming box.

This is hands down the best TV streaming device I have ever owned. It does game streaming very well I have fiber Internet but it does 1080P at 60 frames flawlessly and 4K stutters a little but is acceptable. The streaming services that are available for the shield are very good and the device handles them very well. I use Spotify, YouTube, VRV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video all on this device. The nVidia app and Steam do streaming that exceeded my expectations.
Nick –
Pros powerful, 4k 60 playback, controller, both NETFLIX and Amazon TV on one device no need for fire stick or Amazon TV box, PC games streaming.Cons No SD card slot, only 2 USB slots and one is taken by system storage because internal system drive is only 16 GB and you MUST use USB3 memory stick to expand it. Not enough USB power to drive most 2.5 external HDDs. Another one is not related to this particular device but be be prepared for the Android TV OS limitations its not a full Android and many Android apps and games are not compatible. Again it not a device problem but be aware.

I love this machine. Its amazing. Ive been lucky enough to play around with one for a few days and I would love to have one for myself but that price is a bit steep for my blood. One day though it will be mine…….cue evil chuckle….. Streaming your favourite shows No hassle. Gaming No hassle. Android certified TV os is great and Netflix in 4K HD. It handles everything you throw at it. If you can afford it then its a nobrainer.
Gingerkid42 –
Lovely bit of kit, really small and unobtrusive, so small you could easily put it in your pocket. If you like Amazon, Netflix, side loading Android apps and access to free games then this is really the best solution out there. Also great for streaming movies or music that you have on the internet at home. You can add Kodi, Plex etc too. Its not the cheapest but you get that value back with the free games 10 times over.In summary a great streaming device you can play games ondecent games. I have set mine up for 4K and all runs smoothly and I have an average speed internetabout 25MB

This device isnt better than the Fire tv stick 2nd gen or 3rd gen or 4k. I thought it be better but downloads are not supported on the device so you cant put what u want on it to make it the ultimate machine. So its basically for only gaming. You have to have a GeForce acct. but you have to be put on a waitlist to get to enjoy the games on it. So to me Im just not impressed. Quite disappointed in the nvidia shield tv.
alexhering452009 –
Great product, easy to set up. Has problems with Netflix at times. Unless your 4K TV is a newer version running at 60HZ refresh rate you will get error messages requesting to change HDMI cable. Annoying as you have to reboot constantly to get Netflix to work properly. 4K on YouTube works well. 4K movies on Stan can also be a bit hit and miss as well. As a gaming machine brilliant with free games etc. Works on Steam or GEForce Now games. Check refresh rate on TV before purchasing.
dawtyne10 –
great product and great price for the 2017 model with controller vs the new 2019 model price… Most recently this replaced my xbox one and raspi 4 libreelec setup… very seemless allinone. Im using a harmony hub remote to control and works great. My only real complaint is the volume control with the sonos surround system and no ability for osd for volume level, but that is more sonos issue than the shield. Steam games setup and integration with steam andor geforce now games also has been great so far. I wish I wouldve made the transition sooner
ladybuster69 –
Great unit. Only problem is the remote. No different than any other box in that regard. Had to install my own browser for as it didnt come with one but this unit along with a chord less keyboard remote is the only way to go. Dont waste youre time with other smart tv boxes. This is the real deal.
efrainf69 –
It is an extremely fast device that allows you to not only use your favorite streaming services Hulu, Netflix, Amazon Prime, Vudu, etc. It connects to the Google Play Store but sadly the list of available software is limited. You can get Android packages from outside and load them in but it is a security risk. The game streaming feature works very well especially with Steam. I only had one problem during setup where the device could not connect to the Internet. This was because the device automatically gets an ip for the router and makes it static. When this happens, you have to put the ip on an excluded list. That will fix it. The game pad is really comfortable and responsive

Kids love it family loves it we subscribe to the GForce now bought a couple of controllers to play the games have an Nvidia controller and ASUS gamepad controller for it it just works great flawless smooth operation and it does what we need it to do. We are not heavy gamers but we do enjoy playing games and this is all we think we need with the GForce now network its a good overall unit plays videos very well

Why would you even look at anything else Best graphics card. Powerful processor. Expandable. Ota updates. Can play all the major apps in their highest quality playback. And on top of that top notch game console Works great super smooth. Do yourself a favor if you want an awesome media center look no further

I bought a generic Android TV box as a cost efficient media device after my old XBox 360 expired. Frustration was my reward with poor picture quality, dodgy system navigation and no instructions. The nVidia SHIELD box is a top quality unit all the way. Beautiful picture quality, easy to use and supported with an online manual. After an hour of exploring and familarising myself with the system and customise it to my preferences. Spend the extra money on the nVidia and save yourself the trauma that comes with the cheap alternatives.

Pros This is the fastest android box, it is just so fast. It also works with my old mini X remote control with a full keyboard. kodi works really well on this box, again the speed of this box is noticeable. Loads of free games available too with a proper games controller. overall ExcelantCons Android TV is a bit limiting, only certain apps can be installed. I feel the VPN apps you can use are very bad as you have to install each app and then register to then find out what they cost. No up front charges are shown.

Excellent product that is far quicker and more stable than any of the other similar products Ive tried in this price bracket and bench mark tests Ive carried out show results between 3 and 4 times better than products Ive seen reviewed elsewhere. It does exactly what a media streamer should for me and handles the 25TB of storage that I have connected to my network without any trouble AND it streams perfectly in 1080p from my Amazon Prime account.Having started using this with an ethernet connection then moving to wireless using an up to date router Ive yet to notice any difference in picture quality from regular HD video streaming. The one downside is the remote control included which can be very temperamental and not just for me if Nvidia forums are anything to go by. Ive put mine away and use a MINIX NEO A2 Lite Air Mouse handset instead. The NVidia Shield 16GB is a product that works perfectly for me and one that I would happily recommend, and have.

I bought the Nvidia Shield after reading many favorable comments. I had high expectations about it and it certainly did not disappoint me. It works flawlessly Its fast, the WiFi reception is much better than average and the picture quality on my TV is great I am very happy with my purchase. Spending the extra money on the Nvidia Shield is worth every penny. Buy it Youll love it

This is by far the best Android TV streaming box I have found. It is fast and stable and offers features like Plex media server that simply arent available on other boxes. The only negative might be that the 15 Gb model lacks serious storage space. Thankfully Nvidia thought of this and now lets you use external memory to expand this capability. I have added a 128 Gb flash drive to mine.
hwag7899 –
I waited years to take the plunge and purchase a Shield Not all that happy with it …1 you have to go to a separate computer to activate the Amazon prime video app…I dont have a reg. computer I have no real use for one…So I just use a Chrome browser on a Android tv box. Problem 2 no browser on the shield I know you can side load one another pain…But I think worst of all a wireless keyboard seems not that much help at all unlike a reg. Android box where the wireless keyboard works on everything…So now you have to use the remote and a keyboard an even bigger pain. So I just put the shield in a drawer and went back to my T95 Android box and Roku

Bought it to run Kodi best box Ive ever owned for running it but it does a whole lot more, exceeded my expectations. Really glad to have gotten this to use. Had heard it was one of the best ever to do what it does, and thats absolutely right. Easy to use interfaces, consistent and reliable, with a whole lot more features than I was expecting. Simple and quick to set up and get running. If you stream pretty much anything, youll never regret getting this box.
Jane –
Pros Its very stable as a platform to do whatever you need doing. It has a very good quality robust chipset and processor and it doesnt overheat.Cons Warning It does not run on full blown Android It has hybrid mishmash. So if you think you gonna download all your favourite apps straight away on it think again

just got it, easy to use. alot of youtube videos to help you, just make sure there up to date. plenty of free games and apps only thing its small, pictures make it look big. game controller is largest thing in box its same size as xbox controller see and open the box and you no you got great quality item from nvidia.

This is second one Ive purchased. First one was new, second is used. Works much better than a firestick or an android box until it stops dead The first one died after 2 12 years, with no resurrection no matter what I tried. Another new one was out of my price range. Took a chance on a used one and it works as good as the other one when it worked. Time will tell how this one will hold up. I have a firestick and an android box, but in my own opinion, neither compare to what the shield can do.
pim747 –
So much better and faster than Roku. I have multiple Roku Ultra and can tell you the AI sharpening and upscaling to 4k makes the image look so much better. Because its Android, when you hit the Netflix button by accident, its so much faster at switching back to what you were watching by showing open apps. The remote is also superior. It lights up in the dark by itself whenever its moved. Brilliant. 9 Roku devices later, and I can tell you Shield is the one to buy. Forgot to mention, it also adds network streamed TV channels it finds to the home screen and lets you preview whats on each channel. Not even Plex does that Amazing

This is the best streamer Ive ever seen . I was skeptical because of the price being a lot more that most other streamer on the market . After 1 year of everyday use it still performs fantastically. I highly recommend this purchase to anyone that is tired of the hastles most other streamer have this is the one for you.

The best way to get content from the internet It gives you the flexibility to choose what sources to follow. The remote control is small but highly functional. Streamed content looks great and rarely buffers. A great starter for those looking to cut the cable

Fantastic product provided you can successfully register the product online. The device failed to register and prevented us from accessing any of the NVIDIA games. NVIDIA Support were great and resolved the issue on their backend systems. Would have been a perfect score if we could have avoided this issue.

This is pretty fast device and its much faster than Roku and Amazon fire tv overall I am happy with my purchase and picture quality is superb with HDR and the best part is that it has ability to sideload application to download which are not available on Google play store only downside is 16gb internal memory is not enough for downloading application and Media picture , music etc. I wish it could have more storage, but overall I am satisfied and impressed with the device.
dominic191984 –
This is hands down the best streaming device I have ever used. Once you understand how to set it up. there are loads of youtube videos to help, especially if you want to put custom apps on. It performs excellent. I use it to gamestream from my pc and run emulators and in comparison to my old steam link, this knocks it out the park, normally getting a solid 60fps at 4k on my tv. The only problem I had is origin games dont seem to work, but from reading forums this is actually origin and not nvidia. Highly recommend this product.
comrasc9imlh –
Certainly faster than other android boxes Ive owned. But a couple of issues for me. The remote is too basic. Its too easy to accidentally touch the volume slider. Also, no onoff switch for the shield itself. If I want to shut down the shield altogether, as I prefer my HDD to power down, I need to unplug the shield and reinsert the cable to get it to power back up. Cant do much about the power, I think, but Ill get myself a third party remote to use with the shield.

I have researched and tried many streaming devices. Non compare to Nvidia for both quality and ease of use. I find it to be the best streaming device currently available. The quality of 4K streaming is excellent. I would suggest a direct connection over WIFI for the best quality. I highly recommend the Nvidia Shield over other systems.
JMS –
If youre looking for a powerful streaming device, look no further. This is the most powerful one there is. It also has the ability to play games through the Google Play store. This device accelerates in 4K and HDR content. If you stream Plex, this device can direct play almost any file type. Their new interface is nice and simple to navigate. I will say Roku has more options in terms of channels, but this device has a ton to choose from too. Netflix, Amazon, ESPN, Spectrum, Hulu are all available, plus many more.

This is an amazing device that nobody knows about. Its a fantastic hdr 4k compatible set top boxchromecast that has all the obvious apps you would want alongside your TV. Due to the power it contains, theres no slow ramp up to 4k its there when you press play, and it manages it without any delay, lag, or issues. Its android so its still regularly updated, that includes the controllers and remotes. Though exactly what its doing, Ive no ideaThe game streaming from your pc is unbelievably good. If youve ever had a steam link this is a similar concept but taken to the next level. Almost zero noticeable delay on a fast network and unlike the steam link it can play about every game you have installed, regardless of launcher. The smart controls means any pop ups or launcher menus become easy to handle rather than a total block. It is extremely well designed, nice looking, and really worth checking out.

Pros All good. Fast, reliable with regular updates a great piece of kit. This has to be the best streaming box on the market and it has also replaced my Amazon tv box. Also great for Netflix and any other APK that you wish to install. There are plenty of tutorials on YouTube as well.Cons My only small gripe is the low amount of ram. Easily fixed with the purchase of a fast flash drive 64gb or 128gb recommended.
Tina –
Pros Easy to use, game controller included is great. Games easy to download, netflix and streaming services work better through the shield than on our 4K smart TV. Perfect for a seamless kodi experience. Highly recommended. Extra memory on Shield pro doesnt seem necessary glad we bought this version. sits smartly under our TV along with our other devices. Looks good. Had to call nVIDIA customer services as remote wasnt updating fixed within 5 minutes.

I like the android TV interface. It works well as a Plex player and with Netflix. It has plenty of game options that I have not yet explored. However, I also bought it in order to use it as a plex media server, meaning to host all of my media to devices tablets, TVs etc in my house. This was a heavily advertised feature. And now, after some recent updates, this wont work for me. The server constantly goes offline. I am not the only one to have this problem, based on reading forums. If you are looking to buy this product for that purpose, you might want to reconsider. The support has been nonexistent.

This is the second shield that Ive bought the first one is for myself and this one was for my parents who definitely are not tech savvy but I did not want to see them wasting 100 a month on Foxtel when all they needed to do was learn to navigate this simple interface and share a 12 Netflix subscription. They now have far more entertainment than they know what to do with and a saving a considerable amount of money. For anyone that wants a media player that just works this is for you. 220 is a very cheap amount of money to spend on something that seamlessly works with Plex Kodi Netflix and just about every other Internet subscription you think of.

Looks great, was easy to set up by following the onscreen commands and works perfectly. Mine is bluetoothed to my sound bar and I am pleased with the sound output. The remote is precise and the voice control works well. We have so far only accessed free games but the quality of these has been excellent, the gaming controller is responsive and has a nice quality feel to it. The home screen is easy to customise if you wish to change it. We have very low broadband speeds and the Nvidia seems to cope well with this limitation. Before I purchased I contacted Nvidia support to check out a connectivity issue I wasnt sure about and I was very impressed with their prompt and accurate response to my query. My only negative comment and this isnt down to Nvidia is the limited number of apps available on the android playstore.
conan7772 –
Sensational device. Super fast, great quality sound, very nice interface. Evens converts analogue audio into True Dolby Digital, and does an amazing job at it too. All Neflix streams come up as Dolby Digital on my amp. Vocals are crystal clear with effects separated beautifully. Just like playing off a DVD with a digital amplifier. Very impressive.
