I replaced my Z50 for this one because of 3 main points: 1. The screen flips out to the side, which is great when mounted on a tripod 2. The tally light to let me know it’s recording. 3. Eye auto focus In my opinion, this is the best camera Nikon make for video at this moment in time. The tally light, unlimited recording, eye focus and flip screen are amazing and exactly what a camera should have for video recording. I don’t use it for photos (or at least not intentionally), so the lack of EVF is not an issue and actually a plus point, but if I really need to take a photo. It does have the capability, and the quality is perfect (same as the z50). There are loads of other features and benefits which you can find on the internet, but these are the ones which make it stand out for me, which I think is all you need to know. 6 people found this helpful

I have a Z50 that is beyond repair but with having a set of Z lenses, an FTZ adapter and lots of DX lenses, it made sense to buy another. I bought the Z30 instead. The fault with my Z50 began with the flip screen ribbon cable but side opening on the Z30 means this can’t go wrong any more. The side flip screen makes it far better for video use. Also, I don’t need a dummy battery as I can plug it in and use it at the same time. It has a few features such as focus bracketing that the Z50 doesn’t have. Downside? I might miss the viewfinder of the Z50 but the screen on the Z30 can go very bright to allow for sunshine and anyway, that’s the same for phone cameras.
