I’ve been buying and using Nikon kit since the 1970s but I can’t remember being so excited about a new lens. From the moment I fitted it to my Nikon Z5, I was sold. The macro facility is excellent for my purposes because I’m not interested in microscopic stacked focus images. The focus sometimes needs manual tweaking when taking close-up full frame shots in low light but I would expect that anyway … but I see the macro facility as a bonus anyway because this 50mm on my camera in everyday situations gives me the exactly the right weight/quality image combination for a day’s walkabout photoshoot – especially when the FX/DX capability of the Z series mirrorless camera gives me the option of also using this lens as a quality APS-C 75mm option. From now on, this will be my ‘go to’ lens whereas my previous (otherwise excellent) Nikon f1.4G spent more time in my bag as an alternative for lower light or unobtrusive candid shots. 4 people found this helpful

If you need a 50mm macro lens (and for general purposes) for your Nikon Z camera give this lens serious consideration. Keep in mind that a macro lens with a shorter focal length has a fairly short working distance (from the lens/camera to the subject) when focussed at its minimum focus distance. If that’s a problem buy the Z 105mm macro lens instead. This 50mm lens is pleasingly small and light with fine image quality. Bought as an emergency for my teenage daughter. A very good phone. Does everything as expected and at an affordable price. Annoyingly, the first phone orderd was missing from the packaging that was posted through the door, which I quickly informed Gadget Tree. They are investigating it. Nice lens which sits well on the Z bodied camera’s. Image quality was a let down though. Certainly this is better than some older Nikon macro lenses but it doesn’t come close to the sharpness of Sigma’s 105mm at half the price with VR. I’ll stick with the Sigma for now. 2 people found this helpful
