This camera takes excellent pictures and the lenses that come with it have amazing clarity and resolution. They are light and feel cheap but once you get passed that, they violate all the rules of cheapness and perform magically. The RAW and JPEG output is excellent. You can shoot photos with this camera anyway you like from manual to Scene modes and enjoy and admire the photos that are produced. The kit price is excellent and I think that this kit is all the average consumer needs for photography. The entire kit is light and packs well for trips and vacations. You will not be unhappy with your purchase. Just understand what it is. Professionals can go to the Z6 and Z7 levels but the average will enjoy the Z 50. I use it also with the FTZ adapter and use a Tamron 70200 occasionally, since the 50250 is lighter and works better and Tamron 100400. Both lenses need to have their software updated to work. Also my Sigma 150600mm also needs a software update to improve its functioning with this camera.

I bought this camera thinking the low light performance would be better than my D5300, and in fact, it does appear to be. Focus is sharp and the colors are great. The FTZ adaptor adds weight, but my Tamron 100400 lens and my Tokina 1116 mm lens both work well with it. The adaptor added an extra few inches in length and makes it harder to put my mounted Tamron lens into my prior Nikon camera bag. I would like to figure out how to make it stop showing my last picture in the viewfinder which gets in the way of shooting my next photo. I also thought this camera was weather sealed, but apparently it isnt. I was annoyed to find out my remote shutterintervalometer from my D5300 didnt work with the Z50 because there is no place to plug it into the camera. The optional in camera battery charging requires yet another charger, although you can charge the battery out of the camera with the supplied charger. A second battery is needed and is pricey. Battery life is noticeably shorter than with the D5300. The SnapBridge app remote shutter works pretty well so far, though. If my phone doesnt have a connection in some countries, I am not sure the GPS tagging will work, and of course, if the phone battery dies, there will be no GPS or remote. On the plus side, Nikon makes a wireless remote that will work, and there are some generic ones out there, as well. I dont use GPS tagging too often, but I like it when I am birding in a foreign country.

Well without going into too much detail and getting long winded, this camera kit is sure to impress. This latest technology far surpasses my previous Nikon D7200 and in my opinion gives a strong argument as to the DSLRs demise or not. At any rate Im now totally mirrorless and will be purchasing the Nikon Z6ii as soon as it becomes available putting me where Ive wanted to be ever since dropping film for digital, full frame 35mm comparable

Nobody is paying attention to this little camera because it does not have the pro specs, its not dual card slot, its only 20.9 MP, its a huge mount with a small sensor, fullframe is better than APSC, the lens selections are not good, blah…blah..blah… Everyone is missing out the intention Nikon has on this camera and that is the FUN factor in photography. I have and used Nikon D7100, D810, D850, D500, and the Z7. All of them are really grate cameras. Well constructed, weather sealed, rugged, and most of all aimed for professional use. I also have a bunch of Nikon lenses that you can say are also pro grade. When Nikon first announced this camera I was not really thrilled like the way I was when they debuted the D850 and Z67. And like everyone before investing on a new equipment I do research first before committing. When it became available for preorder I went ahead and took the dive of getting one. Now that I tried it I was amazed with how compact this camera is. It literally a pocketable camera like its point and shoot cousins. The capabilities in stills and video is on par with my D500 except of the size, additional features, and weight. I take this camera with me most of the time than my other ones. Its fun to shoot it. IMO its a better alternative than using my smartphone for taking photo at least the shape is familiar for me with that DSLRMirrorless feeling in your hand. The size makes good use for candid and street photography because its less noticeable and discrete. Its a well rounded camera for taking almost any kind of photography. The 20.9MP is just within the sweet spot for resolution good enough for a 13 x 19 size print out. I do not pixel peep or even scrutinize the resolution like Youtuber reviewers do because at the end of the day what matters most it your overall satisfaction with the product since you are the user.

I got this camera right before Nikon announced the Nikon zfc, and when I say right before I mean barely 24hours had passed since I purchased my Z50. Im so glad I did since I probably would have preordered the zfc and regretted the fact I didnt buy the z50 for the very nice grip it has and just the overall modern mirrorless look. The zfc is pretty much a Z50 in a retro body minus the grip, but I think the body limits it to only properly using small compact lenses 1650 kit28mm f2.8 unlike the Z50 that has a PROPER grip for using big and small lenses alike. On another note, one thing I didnt expect from the Z50 is how solid it feels and just how much quality heft it has for its fairly small size. It feels great in the hand and it honestly makes you want to go out and take photos of everything. Previously I was using a Nikon D3200 with the 35mm and 50mm which was a solid package to take pics but I just got to the point like many photographers nowadays that felt it was time to make the mirrorless switch after many years of using a dslr. Needless to say this camera has all the bells and whistles you can ever expect from a top of the line APSC camera of today, I hope to build my Z mount glass arsenal in the future and beyond. Picture quality is beyond great even with this dinky 1650mm lens it came with. Video quality is very good as well but not as great as the photographs this thing pumps out. If youre on the fence about purchasing one do yourself a favor and just throw down the cash and get one. Period.

I love this little camera. I got it with the 1650mm kit lens and the ftz adapter. Its perfect for my needs, and as a longtime Nikon user, I think that the menu system is the easiest to use that I have experienced. Love the U1, U2 feature. The EVF takes a little getting used to, but now I never want to go back.Used with the ftz adapter, it doesnt skip a beat.

Bought this for my wife, so far she really likes it. She said give it four stars because she hasnt had a lot of time to get to know it yet. Her only complaint so far is that she still hasnt figured out how to turn off the touch focus, but she also has yet to dig into the manuals or watch videos on it.

I have 2 Nikon DSLRs, a D3100 and a Df, and when the Z range was announced I decided to take the plunge and bought a Z6. This is an excellent camera, great to use and came with a very good kit lens. However, I have always felt the need for a quality lightweight and compact take anywhere camera, and had been looking out for some time for something to replace my ageing Nikon 8400. The Z50 did not disappoint.Like the Z6, the ergonomics are terrific, and it has a very good EVF. Its a pleasure to use and the output is excellent. I can dangle it around my neck and not notice its there. Im astonished by the quality of the kit lens. My interests are almost entirely taking outdoor shots, mainly landscapes.

This camera is my first foray into the mirrorless world. I owned a Nikon d810 and a Nikon d500 and while I considered a Z6, the overlap of capability with the cost seemed a bit difficult to swallow. Because I do travel a lot and much of my photography is travel related, I decided to buy this with the two kit lenses. I am glad I did. The camera is SMALL and LIGHT. There are some buttons missing and no screen on the top of the body, but with the EVF functionality, I frankly havent missed them. Focus for me has been fine although I have yet to adopt fully to the automated focus modes and tend to force it to single focus point AFSthis is a user thing and lack of experience. I have only shot maybe 500 pics so far but the detail and color rendering appears excellent. The lenses are clearly not the same as my old 2470 or 70200 but they are surprisingly sharp and very small although I have not taken anything but test pics with the 50250 as of yet. The camera is very fun to use and the images are excellent. I was a bit surprised at how enjoyable shooting with it is.

I bought this Z50 over an year ago from Harveynorman Dandenong, The EVF flickers, every time I try to use it on a 4K mode maximum resolution video shooting causes terrible health issue that dizziness and headache, I contacted Nikon and it took several months for their assessment and what they concluded was that flickering in EVF is nature of this camera or any mirrorless camera and its not manufacturers defect and they negligence of my health issue of using this camera. Please do test before you buy this camera.

I bought NikonZ50 to take photosvideo on my vacation. The picture quality is OK, low light picture quality is also ok. But, the camera itself is not user friendly. The LCD monitor tilts down in a selfie mode however, if you mount the camera on a tripod, the LCD tilt down selfie mode is useless. What a thoughtless design. Also, theres a big processing delay between taking pictures few seconds, even with a high speed high quality SD card. The menu is not very user friendly either. Honestly, I dont think it is worth 1200. It should be around 400. I did not want to but this camera to begin with but the sales associate at Best Buy convinced to buy it. I did not like the camera at all and retuned it to BestBuy. Here is the worst part, the Best Buy charged me 15 180 restocking fee. So be aware of that. Do your homework and dont listen to their sales associate. What a customer service

Love the camera quality of pics even with the kit lens. Shooting raw is great as you have many adjustments at your finger tips. Do buy better glass though. Use the money you save between z50 and z6 to buy f to z adapter then buy better glass.

The two DX lenses work extremely well and using the FTZ adapter with legacy glass makes this an amazing all around camera for everyday use in most any situation.

This camera completely flattened the learning curve for me as someone just starting out. The fact that the Z50 has all of the essential buttons and dials you need to adjust your most fundamental settings was so critical for a newb. When you dont even really know what aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc… are youre less likely to experiment with them if they are buried in a menu as opposed to on a button literally under your finger tips. Which brings me to ergonomics which are superb. Its not a full frame camera but for a newby you dont feel like you bought one of the cheap point and shoot style cameras like we all had back in highschool. Its big enough to be fun and comfortable but small enough that you dont mind grabbing it and taking it everywhere. The pancake kit lens keeps things small and you can get some pretty solid photos out of it as long as you cap that iso on the lower end. Its also lightweight and extremely durable little camera despite its moderate weather seal rating. The Z50 has lived in a Peak Designs Capture Clip on my backpack strap for every hiking and hunting trip over the past year. Its been covered in snow, rain, mud, blood, fat, just things no camera should ever be exposed too and it hasnt winced once. As a vlogging camera it is quirky but definitely doable. the flip down screen necessitates the addition of a Smallrig if you plan to vlog with a tripod. That in turn cuts off the top portion of the screen which is where your settings are. Battery life is perfectly adequate for photos but will drain quickly when recording video and the Smallrig needs to be removed to access the batterycard slot so make sure to monitor your battery life because its not a quick or simple reload. But those quirks aside the camera performs phenomenal and I cannot taut it enough. Good work Nikon

Excellent camera. I have used Nikon cameras since 1971 and have always been satisfied with their performance. This is the first mirrorless that I have used and I am impressed with the ability to preview the shot on the EVF or rear screen. Being able to see how the actual photo will look is a big help to me. I am satisfied with the two lenses but wish they were a bit faster so I can blur a background. However, using the FTZ adaptor I am able to use my older Nikon glass and that has given me more flexibility to use the right lens for the shot. All in all, I would make this purchase, again.

My wife loves her new camera. Tons of photos, using it for video. Not the best selection of lenses, but more are coming out. Ive always used Nikon Cameras and almost made the switch to Sony, but Im happy I decided to stick with them.If there is one issue, and this is my only issue with the camera thus far. Is the availability of batteries for it. I hate the fact that they used a brand new battery, that is expensive and is hard to get.

I already have a D7500, but I wanted to venture into the mirrorless world. So far, though, due to the COVID pandemic, I havent been able to really get out and use this camera as much as Id like to. But the deal was too good to pass up, and I didnt want it to go away. So far, though, I really like its compact size and the fact that its so lightweight. Ive waited on getting the adapter to use my lenses from the D7500. I want to see how much use this one gets first. Its very easy to use. I like that the lenses retract a little more than other lenses. It makes them a bit easier to fit into a bag. Ill try and remember to add to this as I get to use it more.

This camera is for the run and gun point and shoot photographer. Available pop up flash when needed is a bonus. Tiny footprint The pancake lens is so small it enables the camera to be put in the tiniest places. Photos are great Only negatives are , it has a different battery than other Nikon mirrorless , one card slot and lacks some of the functions the higher ends have. Positive advantage , very afforadable. A must for the point and shoot photographer.

I love this camera It is much lighter than my older Nikon digital and takes excellent pictures. It has many features that I have not yet learned to use and am looking forward to warmer weather to get outside and further explore its potential. The only drawback is that the adapter that must be used with my other dale lenses is pricey and there are few Z50 lenses available.

Had a D90 laying around gather dust with a bunch of glass I wasnt using due to weight and size of camera.Wanted to upgrade to something that was lighter, modern and good video capabilities.Bought the Z50 with the FTZ adapter from BH.PROS Camera is compact and lightweight Capable and works great with my AFS lenses using adapter Solid build quality Fast and accurate focus with lots of tweakable settings to make it fit your needs High quality video quality wish there was a 720p option Built in flash Limited but useful in camera editing capabilitiesCONS Too many menu options, with many key options scattered all over the place Not all menu options contain built in help, requiring you download a separate manual to cross reference WIFIBluetooth capabilities are awful Was able to connect and download photos from my iPhone but very slow. Makes you connect over Bluetooth but downloading photos requires constant switching to WiFi Was unable to connect the camera to a computer over WiFi. Software is terrible Landed on just taking out the SD card and pluggin that into my PC Flip down LCD is useless when using a tripod although if you get the FTZ adapter, it provides an additional tripod mounting option No automatic screen brightness adjustment, requiring constant menu tweaking FTZ mount adds bulk to the camera, making it much less compact, even with a 35mm prime on. Its smaller size and lighter weight hide the many features packed into this Nikon z50. I bought it with the adaptor to use old DX lenses and its been great. The video and still are both easy to take. Especially like the HDR and time lapse features.The screen situation for selfiies is a bit weird but actually works for handheld. The lack of an audio monitor jack for live video is a problem and possible deal breaker if you want to do even basic video production. That cost a star in the review.For the money the z50 delivers outstanding performance and value.

I moved up from the D3200 and am joy the pictures I am taking. Took 300 pictures on my 10 day trip so I could see the different setting, lots of fun to compare. Need to buy the adapter so I can use my bigger lens that I bought for my 3200. I find it easy to use the Nikon app to move photos over to my phone and iPad.

When my D5300 broke, I wasnt sure what to purchase as a replacement. I have been shooting Nikon APSC cameras for about 8 years and have a 35mm f1.8 lens, a 1024mm Nikon DX lens, a 55200mm kit lens, plus an external flash.It would have been cheaper to just get a D5500, but the superior autofocus capabilities and smaller size had me considering the switch to mirrorless. I considered going full frame, but due to cost, how frequently I use my camera, and my skills as a photographer, I decided to stick with APSC sensor options this time around. That left me to consider the options from Sony, Fujifilm, and Nikon. A local Best Buy has a great photography section that allowed me to play with all 3.Several reviews have mentioned how challenging the Sony menu system is to navigate, and my time in the store supported this. The prices of Sony lenses was a bit high and a consideration since I already had a nice selection of Nikon F mount lenses. The Fujifilm was great to use, and they have a great selection of high quality, well prices lenses. If you are starting from scratch, Id recommend considering the Fujifilm, in addition to this Nikon.Ultimately, I went with the Nikon because 1 it was the easiest to use, 2 had the necessary features I wanted, 3 was well priced, 4 and allowed me to use my 35mm and 1014mm lenses with the FTZ adapter plus my Nikon Flash.I have been really pleased with the purchase so far.PROSEASY TO USE The camera and menu system are very intuitive and easy to use. One thought I had in the purchasing process was, what good is a great camera if you cant figure out how to tweak the settings effectively and take great picturesKIT LENSES BETTER THAN EXPECTED All of the pictures I uploaded were taken by the kit lenses. The compactness of the 1650 lens makes this camera almost pocketable and easy to walk around with. We just spent a week at Disney and I never had the thought of Ill just use my phone because carrying this camera around and keeping it accessible was just so easy. The quality of the pictures sharpness and color with the kit lenses has exceeded my expectations. The Image Stabilization in the kit lenses has been the most impressive. I took this camera on a hike and the IS makes images usable to about 15 sec or slower, where my D5300 was prone to showing shake at anything less than 130 sec.GREAT AUTOFOCUS As promised, the mirrorless system has great autofocus and is able to quickly lock in on my fast moving children and take great photos. This has been my favorite part of this camera it is just so much easier to get photos of the kids.ISO PERFORMANCE On the D5300, once you got above ISO3200 the pictures got pretty grainy. On the Z50, Im pretty happy with how the photos look up to ISO10,000 which makes photographing kids on the move indoors or at night a much more relaxing process.FTZ ADAPTER The adapter works great, but the kit lenses have been performing so well, I havent used it as much as I would have thought I used to shoot almost exclusively with my 35mm lens.CONSISO JUMPS HIGH One small complaint I feel like the auto ISO jumps higher than it did on my D5300. Where the D5300 might have selected ISO3200, now Im at ISO6400. Since the higher ISO shot actually looks better on the Z50, I cant really complain, but it is something I noticed.ANIMAL AUTOFOCUS I tried to take pictures of apes swinging on ropes in Animal kingdom and none were great. The autofocus would focus on the rope etc. but had a hard time locking in on apes that were kind of far away. Im guessing other cameras in this class would have struggled as well, but the much more expensive Z6 and Z7 do have animal eye detection now so its possible they would perform better.Overall, this has been a great camera. I love how easy it is to carry around, and how effortlessly it makes taking picture when Im out with the family. One tip I did setup the User modes so that U1 is tweaked to be pictures of things higher saturation, etc. and U2 is setup for pictures of people requires faster shutter speed, etc. I found that when Im walking around and want pictures that surpass my celllphones capabilities, but I dont really want to think about taking a great picture, this makes the photography pretty effortless. I do still shoot on A and M most of the time, but for just a day with the family, Im pretty happy with that setup.

Summary one of the best if not the best APSC cameras. Should be called CaNikSony. But in order to enjoy it fully as CaNikSony you will need several adapters. The best feature there is probably no lens made in last 100 years you cant adopt to the camera. For most lens you can find a reasonablypriced adapter on eBay. Sometimes you have to be resourceful. For instance there is no Mamiya ZE or Mamiya CS to Z adapter. But there is Mamiya ZE to MFT adapter and there is a MFT to Z adapter and you can combine them. This camera and its lager fullformat siblings like Z5, Z6, Z7 can be named CaNikon because they can work with most if not all Canon EF lens, even preserving autofocus feature. All you need is an adapter. I have good experience with Fringer, but your mileage may vary. Where a Z50Z5Z6Z7 or, if that matters, Canon R series really do shine is if you want to use a shift lens. Shift or tiltshift lens are known since a while but exact metering is often impossible because of the interference with mirror. Once mirror is gone you can use the shift lens fairly easy and in many cases you can use shift lens handhold. Which camera speaks better to you the Z series from Nikon or R series from Canon is up to you. The better R series do cover thesensor if not used by its shutter. The Z can be forced doing that trick, but its unofficial, this feature is debated arguably, the shutter is more fragile than the sensor itself. R is also somewhat larger than Z, has longer lens mounttosensor distance. But it has full tilting screen. As a Canon user, after about a year of headscratching I decided to side with the Nikon Z series simply because I can make a Canon camera from any Nikon Z, but not the other way, see the Fringer adapter. So I can use the best of both worlds. As for the choice the most prudent is probably Nikon Z5 if you dont care much about video or Nikon Z6II. The Z50 is terrific as a backup camera, is tiny there go all the MFT, compare the size of GH 3 or later with Z50, ouch and all the legacy lens made in last 100 years can be used. Panasonic did see the writing on the wall switching to full format, but sorry… the L format is a niche. With Z you can use even Sony E lens. Just be careful you should unscrew a part of the Sony E to Nikon Z TZE01 adapter for Z50, otherwise it wont fit the Z50. No problems with Z567 series. In a nutshell if you want to buy Sony E, Canon R and Nikon Z the same time, just stick to Z and get all the adapters.

I bought Nikon Z50 2 lens kit a couple months ago and have been able to try it in different settings. Camera generally performs very well. Autofocus is very good not perfect however. Small kit lens very good bigger lens pretty good. Overall it has very satisfying experience. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.

I bought this an an upgrade to my D5300 figuring that the FTZ converter would let me fly with my existing lenses, which worked okay in some respects, but failed at any improvement of a focus speed advantage. If anyone is in my predicament, I strongly recommend going with either the D7500 or the D500 the Mirrorless aspect so far is more of a gimmick that a real advantage to someone like me who does no video. Ill force myself to learn this one, but I do have buyers remorse.

This is my first mirrorless camera and I have been very impressed with its performance. Since I am already an Nikon user the menu system and controls are easy to pickup. I shoot mostly landscapes and nightscapes and even with just the kit lenses this camera is a great companion for my fullframe D750. Its lightweight and has fast autofocus making it a great choice as an all purpose carry around.

Waited a long time for a Nikon mirrorless camera after using various other brands over the years. Got into digital photography with a Nikon D90 back in the day, and have always been most comfortable with the Nikon system. I bought this camera with the 1650 lens and the FTZ adapter. Using both the kit lens and a 70300mm zoom Ive been able to get great photos. I do a lot of bird photography, and this camera has been perfect for that with the lenses that can be adapted to this camera. It is easy to use, the ergonomics are great, and with the kit lens attached it makes a super light camera great for travel. I highly recommend it if you are looking for a great mirrorless camera. Dont be fooled by the megapixel count as 20.9 MP is plenty see my pictures for evidence.

I already own a Z6 D750 that I use for Astrophotography, but I wanted something smaller and lighter for an EU vacation Im taking in December Im limited on baggage. This camera takes amazing pictures and I dont need a separate camera bag. Bottom line, very small, very light, but feature rich although a lot of my shots will probably be Auto. Pros I was unsure about moving from DSLR but I love the light weight of this camera and the fact that the EVF gives a preview of exposure and depth of field. Great image quality 1 month in.Cons Lightweight 1650 lens gives great image quality but build feels a bit cheap. There is also a lack of native lenses the FTZ adaptor works great but with it you effectively have a DSLR sized camera.

Fantastic If you are thinking about another crop sensor mirrorless camera, dontI loved everything about this while reading about it before my purchase. Coming from an FX DSLR D610, it felt odd going back to a crop sensor camera. Let me say that this z50 kit has REALLY impressed me. Also, the included lenses are both fantastic. I believe Nikon is trying to do a REALLY nice job with all of their Z lenses, and they are all coming out great from what I am reading.The 1650 has great focal length coverage for day to day shooting, is very sharp, and focuses very close. It collapses in on itself as well VR is fantastic as well.The 50250 at its longest 250mm length is equal to about 375mm on a full frame camera.Back to the crop sensor issueI find that this camera is great in low light, has plenty of resolution for almost anyone other than the pixel counters that have to have 4x what they need for no reasonAutofocus is great, especially the eye detection modes.The EVFs colors and clarity are awesome. Can browse the menus as well as your photos previously taken as well. I was at first worried it might give me a headache but I got used to it in a few days. Much brighter and more colorful than an optical viewfinder.I may purchase a 35mm f1.8 z lens in the future, but to be honest, the included lenses are fantastic for all of my needs, even for low light. Dont forget, the rear elements of these lenses are MUCH closer to the sensor than they would be on a DSLR. Also, the lens mount is quite a bit larger, also allowing for more light. Dont let the high minimum f numbers of these lenses scare you. Very high quality lenses. But I cannot wait to see what this camera will do with a fast prime.Build quality of the body and lenses is superb. LCD is of very high quality.Battery life has been WAY better than rated in my experience. Gotten over 1,000 shots per charge, even while using the EVF.The colors in the images from this camera are beautiful, just as they are in the viewfinder.Try it, customize all your settings as desired, and you wont be disappointed.

Excellent beginner mirorless camera. The included zoom lens takes exceptionally sharp photos, even at 250mm. When switching lenses, be careful not to get any dust on the sensor. Best to keep the body facing downward when doing this.

Could I give this an extra point for the value categoryGetting beautiful sharp photos from this Z50 camera, even when cropped way down.The 1650 pancake lens is very thin compared to similar lenses making the camera and lens very compact. The other 50250 lens zooms out into the super telephoto range around 375mm full frame equivalent.We have been getting great results with macro photo shots of flowers and telephoto shots of birds. Very low grain in low light shots.Photos can be cropped down quite a lot and still have sharp images. Quite impressive.The grip on the right side is deeper than most other camera this size making it easy to carry the camera and not feel like you are about to drop it.Overall a great small and light weight camera and lenses with outstanding image quality.

Wow, the Z 50 does everything exponentially better than my old D300. Magnesium body feels quality. And the F to Z adapter is a no brainer. Works great with all my AFS lenses. My older D lenses also work, but of course without AF since there is no motor. Very pleased and BH always great.

This little thing is a joy to use. Since I bought it, I find myself reaching out to the Z50 more often than my D850 The small body and lens, and its lightweight makes it so much easier to hold this for extended hours as a walkaround or hiking camera. You get excellent dynamic range from this sensor and decent amount of resolution for social media and family use. It is no match to the D850, but it is so much easier and more fun to carry around.

I bought this camera to replace my Nikon D7200 and Ive not regretted this choice yet. The Z50 is a great beginner mirrorless camera I.e. good entry level camera. The Z50 is much lighter to be expected since its mirrorless than the D7200. The kit lenses are at least functional, even if they arent prime lenses. But I also bought an adapter at the same time so I can use the lenses I used to use with the D7200. The preview is nearly the same as the actual final shot which helps with adjusting exposure and lighting. Id buy this again if I need a new camera, but I hope to have the money to buy the Z5 or Z6 in the future.

All could make good images, but their ergonomics and interface were all a pain. I bought the Z50 with the two lens kit. I had trouble loading the photos onto my iMac, and learned that first I had to update my software to OS 10.13 High Sierra. I then had to update my Nikon View NXi software. Despite these two updates, files from my Z50 may or may not load onto my iMac. Worse still, files from my D500 exhibit the same problem, especially with my RAW files. Both RAW and JPEG files from my D750 are not affected, however. While the Z50 and two lens kit makes a great walkaround camera, the software difficulties are exasperating. This is a work in progress…..

I am more of a fine art photographer than an action photographer, so I chose the Z 50 camera when I wanted to employ a DX sensor to extend the utility of my lenses.Many lenses designed for a Nikon FX full frame or 36 x 24mm sensor camera, work very well on the cropped or halfseize APSC sensor. Experience may be your guide, but Nikon lenses such as the popular 38300mm lens were designed for use on the FX or DX camera bodies. On the Z 50 my 28300mm has the field of view of lets do the math 1.5 x 300 450 of a 42 to 450mm lens.The results are stellar. See my photos attached.

The key to good photos is having the camera with you when the opportunity arises. So often, you take pictures in your head because you only have your iphone and it just wont do the job properly. This Z50 is small and light enough to take everywhere. Pictures are sharp, colors are great, controls fairly easy to use. Looking forward to Z mount fast DX lenses

This is my first mirrorless camera purchase. So far my favorite thing about it is how lightweight it is. I am still getting used to the focus points on it but overall like it. The only real complaint I have so far is you have to rotate the lens after you turn the camera on in order to take a photo. So if you are trying to catch something quickly, you may miss it

I love this camera. I replaced an older Nikon D60 which still worked fine. Im retired and doing a lot of traveling had to return back to the U.S. early from Australia because of Covid 19. The camera is smaller and lighter than my previous Nikon, but the photographs Ive taken are great. The only minus Ive had is that Ive been shooting in the Fine setting large image size, and have experienced some buffering. I saw where others have been using the basic setting and still getting excellent results. Im still learning and trying new features. The Wifi transfer worked perfectly sending pictures to my iPad and laptop for backup. I bought the bundle which included the Nikor DX 50200 and Flashpoint Zoom R2 Mini Flash. The small flash is the perfect size for this camera.

Prior to buying this camera kit I spent several months researching it and found that most reviews were quite positive. After using the camera and included lenses I concur I also bought the FTZ adapter so I can use F mount as well. The adapter works fine.

The low light of the camera is simply amazing all the way up into 12800 its completely usable. Past that its personal preference but I could easily use the highest without extending. Its tack sharp the 50250 is definitely the one Ive used more on the camera to get nice bird shots. All in all Im still working over the camera and learning some new things here and there so I cant say much but what I can say is its perfect for getting into the z system like I wanted. It would be the next best camera to get besides the A6400 Id actually pick it over the 6400 due to the grip of you have small hands or big itll fit you and make the exp much better over time that grip really truly makes or breaks a camera and yes mirrorless cameras can be too small its why the Fujis havent exactly been on my list to buy other than the xh1 but even so it didnt meet my requirements much. The appeal of the Nikon z50 just captivates you and thats really preference more than anything so if you like the looks I can definitely tell you to buy the camera cause itll handle whatever you wanna do really. Id honestly buy the body alone plus the 85 s 1.8 but that was more money than I had to spend so I just went the next best thing and got the kit, over all it was the best kit you can get aside from maybe Fuji but again the lenses on Fuji are lit but the bodies need major tweaking to win me over.

I always wanted to get into using a mirrorless camera and this kit was the most bang for my buck. I already have a NIkon D3200 so I wanted to stay within the Nikon family. The reviews on this product didnt do it justice. It is like a whole new world with the Nikon Z50. The images are crisp and the digital viewfinder is so responsive. Being able to flip the display down for selfie mode is a feature I didnt think Id use that much, but it helps a lot when trying t capture a shot from a much lower angle Im a tall guy. Its connectivity to Snap bridge is very responsive. I have any photo I want and can use my phone as a remote trigger. This is useful for self portraits and long exposure shots when I dont want to go to the menu to set the self timer. You can even set the self time through the remote photography option on snap bridge The video quality is beyond amazing. I dont usually edit my content in 4K but having the option to do so now makes me interested. My old F Mount lenses work even better with this camera and I am more than happy with this purchase.

The Z50 feels durable and is nice in the hand to hold. It comes with two lenses, a 1650mm and 50250mm. Both lenses feel well constructed with good vibration reduction, and offer a broad focal range. Picture quality is impressive. Auto focus, plus focus peaking and back button focus makes framing shots very easy. Viewfinder and rear screen have a decent resolution. Battery life is average and getting hold of a second battery is proving difficult. Affordable lens options are still quite limited.

I purchase this camera to be one of a few that I need to start my business youtube channel, and Ive been testing it for that and it works outstanding.I have a Samsung note 9 and the snapbridge works flawless for it. I was a bit disappointed when Ibsaw the box saying its made to work with apple devices but I guess from the previous reviewer it doesnt work for iPhone.The lenses are like all mirrorless camera lenses you have to dial in focus manually but its very easy. Theres no manual focus but like I said its fun to adjust.Touch screen and menu are a breeze to learn but Ibdont even use the touchscreen I find it more easy doing manually plus it gives me a feeling I have a camera not a smart phone or tablet device.

Been using Nikon for 50 years and when I ordered this , I wasnt expecting much from it. How wrong I was. In my opinion, results are better than the D500, light as a feather, cheap and nasty looking kit lens turns out to be more than capable. Eye autofocus is much much better than I had expected after watching Influencers. Ive been using it with the FTZ and a 300mm PF and 1.7X for birds and its a light carry all day set up. I even bought the 50250 which I had no intention of doing and again it excellent.

The Nikon Z50 is an excellent complement to and a suitable transition from my Nikon D7100. Its Nikons first APSC mirrorless camera. A similarlyequipped Z6 would be more than three times as much wcomparable fullframe 2470mm and 80400mm lenses and would render my current APSC glass obsolete. I always thought that fullframe lenses were the way to go for APSC cameras because of the sweet spot argument, thereby avoiding the marginal corner performance of most nonprofessional lenses. This is selfdefeating in the sense that one pays for the fullframe coverage and has to accept the concomitant weight penalty. The Z50 takes normal SDmemory cards albeit only one slot SDSDHCSDXC UHSI, and has a builtin flash that is lacking in the Z6 and Z7. Both kit lenses appear to have ultrasharp optics, fast autofocus and are incredibly lightweight. Unfortunately, their lens shades are excluded from the kit. The FTZ Lens Mount Adapter became the decisionmaker by BHs offering it as a bundled savings. This makes my favorite compliment of Nikon Landscape Macro Two Lens Kit with 1020mm f4.55.6G VR 40mm f2.8G as well as my Nikon DX Fisheye 10.5mm f2.8G ED totally usable. DX lenses on fullframe Z6 or Z7 bodies automatically crop their sensors to DX, so youre discarding more than half your sensor area and getting less resolution than by using them on a Z50. Granted, the Z50 lacks incamera fiveaxis image stabilization, but alternatively, the lenses do have vibration reduction. If you own a majority of DX lenses, I highly recommend the Z50 mirrorless alternative.

If you get the Z50, make sure you get the kit w both lenses. Because these lenses are MADE for this camera body.The clarity sharpness of the images is amazing. And the lenses are very lightweight. To get both these lenses for only an additional couple hundred bucks kit on sale 1099…thats a nobrainer.My only complaint would be that the 50250 lens should come with a lens hood. Bought this camera from Very a few weeks ago and I have previously owned a few DSLRs but could never get on with them so stuck with Bridge and Compact cameras but this Nikon Z50 is the best camera I have owned the quality is as good as a DSLR and the AF is amazing, The kits lenses are far better quality than your average kit lens. Still getting to grips with it have added some sample photos I have taken so far mainly with the 250mm.If there is one downside is Nikon need to hurry up and bring out more Z mount telephoto lenses.Most I have spent on a camera but well worth it.

The z50 is an amazing camera that weighs nothing and seems to perform very well having it for only 2 weeks. The autofocus appears to be responsive. I purchased the z50 to replace my D7500 and so far no regrets. Touch screen works just as well. Ive used the Tamron 150600mmg2 and autofocus doesnt seem any worse than what I was used to on the D7500. I think Nikon got this one right.

I was interested in taking up photography as a new hobby and did a lot of research on what camera to buy. I decided on this mirrorless camera from Nikon and I havent regretted a thing. Ive taken this camera hiking and the shots have been great. The two lense system has allowed me to take some great wide angle shots and zoom in to get some great detail. The camera body is smaller than most DSLR cameras so it is more mobile. I would recommend this to anyone.

Nice camera, however there were some initial problems. The camera is shipped with firmware 1.00. Needs updating to 1.11. The exe file with the firmware wouldnt run after download. Needs to copy the exe file first.Automatic bracketing cannot be switched off, need to set the number of bracketing exposures to zero.Constant warning message poor lighting, flash recommended. Cannot disable the message.Nikon support was wellwilling, but took a lot of effort to identify and solve the issues.

Ive used Fuji, Canon, and Sony crop sensors before including the XT3 Xt30, HX1, X100v, a6000, a6500, and 80D. For me it has canon and fuji colors right straight out of the camera with the auto focus and sharpness of sony. I use this to supplement my a7Riv. Definitely get the two kit lenses as they are superb. They are not the fastest on their tele end, but for most things outdoors, they will be fine. Higher ISOs are actually quite nice due to its pixel density and sensor size. The only negative in my opinion are the controls, but if you are a Nikon shooter, it is probably right up your alley. They are just not what I am used to. Battery life is amazing for how small the battery is. But being a new battery, they are expensive and hard to find in stock. No 3rd party batteries available yet. No IBIS, but the VR is very good that i prefer the lighter weight without IBIS. This camera has everything you need to get out and go, just add a screen protector as I do on all my cameras. Overall even with my primary camera system being another brand, this is a kit I will keep and use frequently.

I have had this camera since its launch so I have put over 1000 images through it and can say that it has exceeded all my expectations and then some. When I got this camera I was debating over the DSLR or Mirrorless set up and man this blew all those expectations out of the water with the EVF. Being able to see my image and changes both on a screen, and in an EVF has made taking all my images easy and have had no problems with it in bright sunshine. The video side I have not made full use of it since I am mostly taking stills with it and have found it a joy to play with to try out for some fun. This camera can be tack sharp with any lens that you want to use from all manual lenses to any Nikon F mount with the FTZ adaptor to the Z mount lenses. After owning this camera for almost a year I have had no problems with it and even when I get a full frame camera I will still be caring this camera around for how compact and ease of use that this camera comes with. All of the buttons are in locations that my hand can reach even with big hands I have come to like the grip that this camera has, I have even compared it to a D7500 and I have noticed that I have gotten spoiled with all the buttons on one side that can be used with one hand and have found the grip to be better for me. Its just sits right in the hand where it needs to be. Both images that I have attached came out from the two DX lenses that this kit came with, the flower is with the 1650mm and the squirrel is from the 50250mm straight out of the camera with no editing.

Ive been a photographer for nearly 40 years… starting with my fits Nikon EM in the early 80s. I do some professional work, too. Ive owned dozens of amazing cameras, most Nikon. Currently have a Nikon D810 and some wonderful glass… its awesome. But its big. And heavy. And a lot to carry on a hike or a bike ride. About two years ago, I tried the Sony a6500. Great camera, Fantastic technology, but the software and the menu system and the concept of buying apps to let the camera perform certain tasks… just didnt fit with me.Ive had the Nikon z50 for just a short while and in that time Ive become QUITE impressed with its speed of focus, sharp imagery, color rendition, and the so far flawless uploading of JPG previews onto my iPhone X. Its pretty remarkable to take a few shots… and by the time I look at my phone theyre there. If the shots are for social media, the Large JPG files are great. Edit with Lightroom and away we go. But if I want to work with a larger RAW file, I can transfer those, too.From the absolute beginner to the intermediate to the seasoned and experienced professional. This camera is wonderful from pointandshoot to fully manual with tons of creative flexibility.The video is amazing, too. The focus sensor works very well… and the quality of the 4K is superb.Im now considering whether I should move into the full frame Z series… and get a Z7 or Z7ii when they come out this week. Im seriously impressed with this technology and the commitment to excellent pictures and video. The shots attached are snapshots… just examples of how easy it is to get really good images. No flash, no real setup, just quick shots.For the price I dont think there is anything else better on the market. And Ive explored.Price not withstanding I think its the best crop sensor camera out there.

This isnt even that watered down compared to my Z7, this blows my mind. It has all the same timelapse app functions, and everything else I used on my Z7 except ibis. It also doesnt have an AA filter so you get nice crunchy, sharp images, especially black and whiteI used to use my Z7 in crop mode a lot and have crop lenses. This works the exact same without the extra bulk. I would recommend this for anyone that wants a portable sidekick to their Z6 or Z7 or just wants to get into mirrorless. Hands down my favorite APSC camera out there.

Ive had the Nikon Z50 for about a week now. As a predominately jpeg shooter, the first thing I want to know about a camera is, how is the color science While I do engage in minor editing, I want good color straight out of the camera. My current camera of choice is the terrific Fuji XT30.But I wanted to test out the Nikon Z50, so I bought it, along with both new Z lenses. After using it for a week, Im very impressed. It is extremely light, reasonably intuitive, and while its color palette differs from the Fuji, it is nonetheless very appealing. Video tracking is excellent, and the builtin audio is better than expected.A few niggles While taking portraits, auto eye focus only engages when the focus mode is wide. So if youre in one of the more narrow focus modes, you have to remember to switch it out. A second shortcoming is the annoying flip screen which flips below the camera, which cant be used with a tripod, and is just poorly conceived. Flip screens should articulate to the side A third nitpick is that to my eye, the camera exposes a third of a stop high, so I generally shoot a third of a stop down. But overall, this is a fun, well thought out camera that is destined to make many travel photogs happy. Is it better than the XT30 No, but its close, and once I become more comfortable with it, who knows

The reviews of this product tend to be lukewarm. I found it to be excellent. There may be other cameras in this category mirrorless, less than full frame that do particular things better, such as faster autofocus etc. But overall, I think this is a really great product with the expected Nikon quality. It is extremely compact especially with the supplied kit lens. That lens has great optics, but a relatively high fstop. The sensor is very good, allowing you to use high ISO values, which somewhat offsets the limited light gathering of the lens. And of course, you can buy faster lenses if you want the maximum results. If a semiserious photographer is looking for a very good, convenient, versatile camera that is not too far from the professional level, I think this is a great choice.

Im not sure this camera is working properly. There is a long pause following taking a picture that doesnt seem to end until I take another shot. As a result I often end up taking a random shot that I cant view after the intentional shot. Of course a few months after the purchase, which was just at the start of the pandemic, the camera is no longer returnable. Im very dissappointed, as Ive been a long time user of Nikon cameras. I expected more from them.

Ive been perseverating for about a year on what camera to buy. Microfour thirds lacks sharpness. Full frame is too expensive and too heavy. APSC is just right in that im getting sharp pictures, good colors, camera is light, user friendly. Too me it seems that Nikon is working for my business. Theyre giving me value for the money.Get both the pancake and zoom lens. If you can, get the FTZ lens adapter cheap, 50 or so, get it. With the adapter, the Z50 is compatible with DX Nikon lenses and that opens you up a lot of possibilities. Good lenses. Not breaking the bank. Last thing, camera is good in low light.Im not a pro. I just like taking pictures. Will post pics of autumn.

I have had this camera for a few weeks now.This is a great camera. I really like it.That being said. Many creative type people, my self included, are left handed. Most lefties are left eyed. Using this cameras eye level finder targets your nose on the up and down screen touch buttons on the touch screen. Making the image magnify and demagnify as you are looking through the finder. I affixed a small piece of velcro to the glass to keep my nose from hard contact with the touch screen. Still able to operate with my finger and the velcro makes it easier to locate them.Pictured is my fix for this problem. Hope this helps some one.

If you are coming from Nikon APSC DSLR, you will find this camera a breath of fresh air. The EVF will blow you away from what you are used to. Whereas D3xxxD5xxx have such a small OVF, the EVF here is like watching a big screen TV. If you already have a MILCMirrorless camera there is plenty to like here.The body is a great size. Ergonomics overall are better than Sony and most others. The grip is just a tad short for my hands but light years ahead of Canon which always has too square and shallow grips. The menu is Nikonfamiliar, much better than Lumix and Sony. You get a full function flash hot shoe and builtin flash.Holding the Z50 and Z6 together there is no comparision. Z6 is tooreminiscent of DSLR in size and weight, something most of us going to mirrorless are trying to get away from. The Z50 is extremely close to a Goldilocks camera.There are two areas where the Z50 slightly disappoints. One is in the opticsdiopter for the EVF. The adjustment clicks seem to miss where my eyes are at and for me the EVF is never 100 in focus. I also notice some lack of uniformity in the EVF clarify going from left to right. It does remind me a bit of some failed EVFs in the past like the Lumix G85 which had one of the worse EVFs ever. But the Z50 EVF is highly usable. When adjusting the EVF brightness, which is a little low by default, its a little confusing that you can navigate in the menus to the EVF brightness but you cant actually change it unless holding the EVF to your eye. Sure, kinda makes sense. But the information popup is not clear enough to not have made me spend a full minute trying to figure this out.My main disappointment is with the lens. The zoom throw is good, its pretty short to go from wide to sortatele. But the main thing for me is starting from f3.5 and going to f6.3. I shoot a lot of low light with movement and this lens wont work for me. In fact, it is hard to think of a worse decision for a kit lens. I would rather have a longer, wider, and somewhat heavier lens at get at least in the f1.8f2 neighborhood. Starting from f3.5 is going to keep all but the most casual shooters, or full daylight only shooters away from this great little system. Great as a vacation or outdoor family camera. But if you are shooting at dusk or evening events even under strong lighting, its not going to work.So I take away one star for the kit lens. You would think after Sonys notorious bad kit lenses that Nikon would want to check all the boxes here by doing something that more seriousexperienced photographers on a budgetfamily would go for. Z 50 will sell a lot. But would have sold a LOT more if it had a decent kit lens. Z 50 really is close to a well rounded perfect camera.

After four years, my trusty D5300 was long in the shutter count tooth and in need of replacing. I debated the merits of going full frame, ultimately choosing the Z50 because its more compact size leads to easier travel. I have to say Im super happy with the purchase.Pros The EVF is incredible I will never go back to an optical viewfinder. Eye Autofocus and tracking are good not awesome but acceptable enough for me to shoot a high school hockey game with ease. All my Nikon lenses work flawlessly with the FTZ adapter. Battery life is better than expected. Lightweight, well built, but ergonomically comfortable. Great option for video. Handles noise at higher ISOs better than I though it would, being an APSC camera. Weather sealing feels good.Cons Good thing the FTZ adapter works well because theres bupkis available for fast Z glass. Seriously, Nikon Lightroom can be a bit finicky with the exported files. Eye Autofocus system is not as accurate as Sonys. Menu can be a bit much to navigate. Kit lens is disappointing.Overall, I would definitely recommend this little camera. I can see it becoming my go to travel camera.

I am continually impressed by this camera. Its size is incredible, and it feels amazing in hand. Its low light capabilities are awesome, and it does awesome in bright light as well. The two lenses that come with it are actually pretty good lenses, and pair it with the FTZ adapter and you can use older F mount lenses as well, which is nice. Also, the battery continually destroys its shot rating rated for roughly 300 shots per charge, I continually get well over 1000 shots plus, if WiFi and Bluetooth are off I have gotten over 2k Only one SD card slot, and USB mini rather than C, no 4k60 just 4k30 so yeah its not perfect, but for its price its pretty hard to beat.Also, the one reviewer who said a wireless remote shutter wont work for him makes no sense. Its not connected to a network, its connected to the remote through the in camera wifi. You can use a wireless remote literally anywhere… Plus you can use the Nikon Snapbridge app and your phone can become a Bluetooth remote also useable anywhere…. Regarding the RAW files on Macs, Ive never had any issues with the RAW files, however I use Adobe Lightroom to process my raw files, and use a PC. No raw files work with windows viewer anyway unless you use a buggy extension app.This camera is a blast to shoot with and its size matched with capabilities made it the clear choice for me. I couldnt be happier with my decision.

Ive been using Nikon DSLR cameras for years. Love them. Decided to try the Z50. Took a few test shots in RAW format. None of my apple devices are able to use the RAW filesiPhone.ipadMacBook in the native apps. All are on the most current public releases and they just display a big black square. The camera works fine for jpeg files, but thats not sufficient. Probably taking it back unless NikonApple fix before my return period expires.

This is my first mirror less camera. While Im not new to manually setting my focus, aperture and shutter speed, I feel that it is quite easy to master for a new user of such cameras, in my opinion. I have found its features to be easy to use and provides excellent results. Very user friendly.I am concerned about short battery life and high replacement battery cost.

This camera produces outstanding image quality even in mostly Auto modes. I used Nikon DSLRs for the past 16 years, and was a little hesitant to purchase the Z50, however it exceeded my expectations. The ease of use is excellent, and you can actually take pictures by tapping on the screen. The image quality also significantly exceeds that of my D700. The balance of color, contrast and definition are superb, and autoexposure meter works accurately. Im confident to say that with this camera no postprocessing is needed unless an artistic effect is desired. This actually solves a big problem for me, as nowadays I really want results quickly especially when I travel. Instant results, on your phone, are expected today. Transfer of fullsize photos to my phone or iPad is also very easy, so the pictures become available for sharing quickly. The image stabilization on the telephoto lens is as good as Nikon ever got. In my opinion it is better than that of Nikons professional lenses from just a few years ago. I also got the FTZ adapter to use with my Fmount lenses. Im happy to report the even prime lenses focus swiftly and surely, and produce sharp pictures even wide open something that was challenging with a DSLR to achieve. Ultimately Im confident while taking pictures with the Z50 and can focus on composition and design, not on camera settings which is distracting. The two negative sides I see is one that the battery life is very short. I recommend getting a second battery right away. The other negative is odd behavior when using slowsync flash and auto ISO. The camera seems to favor slow shutter, and does not increase the ISO to meet the minimum shutter speed as configured in auto ISO settings. This is the opposite of what my DSLRs do, and requires effort and reconfiguration to overcome. Ultimately avoiding slowshutter sync may be the way to go. I dont understand why Nikon chose to design this behavior. Should you buy this camera My answer is YES if you are interested in expanding your photography beyond the smartphone.

This is the fourth Nikon I have purchased N80, D70s, D90 and now the Z55. There are some features from those models missing, such as the top LCD display and a drive pin for nonmotorized focus lenses. It also has a micro USB instead of USBC, which is weird because the other Z bodies use USBC. This will be used as a way to bridge the gap from the Fmount to the new Zmount. The opening for the Zmount is huge Looking forward to new lenses coming out, and a body between the Z55 and Z6.

As a longtime Nikon user, I wanted to move into the mirrorless world that I already experience with my Olympus EM1, Mark II another great camera using the Olympus 12100 zoom by the way. The Z50 is the least expensive Nikon option into mirrorless and combined with the Tamron 18400, offers a one cameraone lens combination that is unmatched at this price point note that the Tamron needs to have firmware updates to version 2.0, or be a recent version to work on this camera. This lens offers a 27600mm equivalent focal length on the Z50. Of course you need the FTZ adapter to use the regular Nikon F lenses and other Nikon mount lenses. This is my travel and adventure setup. I dont want to change lenses I just want to grab the camera and go. Its easy to use and creates great images. Ive captured deer and bird photos which previously were out of range for me. I run my photos through Lightroom, then Topaz DeNoise to clean up any issues and post from there. I did not get the two kit zooms as they hold the camera back for the best images. They are a great value and smallcompact, but be aware that other lenses will bring out the best with this camera. Just get the TTZ adapter and this camera, then put your best lenses on and go from there.

In all honesty, I havent used the camera that much yet. However, Ill offer a few things up to this point. My purpose in purchasing the kit was I hope to do some vlogging. Im a Nikon guy so I stayed with the brand. Also considered a Lumix as had read some good things about them.One of the reasons I purchased this was to get a smaller camera for travel potentially motorcycle. This certainly fits the bill. Ive got a smaller camera pack that I think will hold everything I need. Not crazy about the bag they send with it would rather they gae you a lenshood. The camera itself is very lightweight. Well see how it feels with some of my other Nikon lenses.The 1650 lens that came with it has proven pretty nifty in test shots video so far. Have gotten some really nice shots outside in evening lowlight settings Auto. And, I just took some pictures in my room as I write this. No flash. Light source outside window, cloudy day, blinds louvered about 30 degrees. Impressive on both video and still. Great light gathering on this lens.The bokeh on some outdoor flower shots at 16mm was very nice. Ive ordered the adapter backordered arriving soon. I am anxious to see how that works with my other lenses. Ill wait on ordering the 50250 until I see how things go.I like the touch screenmonitor. Still learning all the nuances but I think it handy, especially as a monitor. I know some use an external monitor. Im just not that far yet as to even consider.Ive been very pleased with the still shots Ive taken so far. Very nice.The Gorillapod that comes with it can work and Ill probably use it depending. Will also use my other tripod Im sure. Will depend on the setting.I have not used the external mic yet. The mics on the camera body have done okay on inside test shots. But, havent really tested them as I will.Overall I am very pleased to date. I think this is going to be a very nice camera. I shoot a D7100. Had thought my next big camera would be the 850. However, I am so enjoying the mirrorless, might go to the Z 7 if I can ever afford either.I dont think the Z 50 is a replacement for a higherend camera could be your backup. However, I do think it will take some really great pictures for you. I cant wait to try it out on travel.Wish I could provide more detail, just havent used it enough as yet. This camera is a joy to use. I had the D7500 before, and since it uses the same sensor, it produces great images. I just hope Nikon makes new fast zmount lenses for this body. That is not to say that this lens is bad. Far from it. In fact, it is sharper than any FMount lens that Ive used. But it is a slow lens. However, I was able to shoot 13 of a second handheld with this camera due to the stabilization in the lens which makes up for its small maximum aperture.

Thats saying a lot, Ive owned probably 60 or more cameras. Mostly Nikons, but with zeiss contax sony fuji panasonic canon in the mix as well. I thought each of those 50 were the best at the time best I could afford was more like it, but none are more fun than this one. Its really effortless to get an outstanding image, its a little bigger than a V2, and it just feels like a performer when you have it in your hands. Im an old school photographer emphasis on old so in body IBIS doesnt concern me that much, Ive only had IS for 5 percent of my years as a photog. I bought the 2 kit lenses, and theyre more than I need as far as image stabilization, and theyre pretty amazing for the price. If Im shooting in low light Im normally photographing people, and they dont stay still so I bought the z 50 1.8s lens as well. And thats the real reason to buy into the Z system, the lenses. Cameras come and go, and these Z cameras have a lot to offer, but the lenses are just something else. You owe it to yourself to give this one a try, its a sweet little camera and a good entrance into what should be a pretty amazing lens collection when its finally complete.

Delighted with the picture and video quality of my new Nikon Z50. It was easy to order online and arrived quickly under the current difficult climate. The Z50 takes beautiful crisp sharp photographs, works well in lower light towards end of day in particular where I previously struggled to get clean photos. This camera, especially with the dual lens kit, is amazing for people new to photography. I have one to complement my Z5 as my primary camera, and use it primarily for videoing myself. Its small size and weight makes it really easy to bring with me, even with a bunch of other lenses, and the range this camera is capable of with the dual lens kit is wonderful. For about a year it was my primary camera before I upgraded to full frame, but this thing has proven to be very capable and very durable. Especially on the holiday sales it is a steal.

This is a great little camera… I sold it once and actually missed it so I bought another one. Cant say enough great things about this camera. The reason I gave it three stars is that it cannot be registered in America as it is a grey market camera and lens. This means if it breaks, Nikon will not fix it as the warranty is not valid in the USA and the camera was not meant to be sold on this side of the ocean. You will have to find a camera repair shop to get it fixed as NIkon will not touch it.

Already had a Z6 and wanted a small and compact camera for the family. This one did not disappoint Focus is dead on and quality of both video and pictures are awesome. True to Nikon form, the menus are easy to navigate, the lens is sharp, and the screen is great. I love that I can use my old glass with the Z50 with FTZ, plus new glass is reasonably priced for the Z50. This is a great family camera or a backup for higher end product.

Coming from a D500 this sensor is just as good and perhaps slightly better. 80 of the time I prefer using and images from the Z50 over the D500. The EVF provides a lot more information than a DSLR can. Im more creative with the EVF and dialing exposures in to taste too. I REALLY like that nearly everything operates from the right hand with this camera I skipped the 50250 kit lens and got the 24200. Ill be pairing this with a fullframe Z camera soon when they make one with more buttons and dials. Something that matches the form factor of DSLRs more closely.I just wish the screen fully articulated, the USB port was USBC, the fnct buttons were larger, there were two more on the back above the thumbdial, and a lighter material FTZ was available. Even if was limited to smallerlighter lenses like primes. You cant program submenu items like spot focus to buttons like you can with Nikon DSLRs and even other Zs. The user modes dont save picture control, crop, or release mode either.I cant see anyone not being happy with the camera, especially with the 1650mm kit. It still works nicely with larger lenses though.

the perfect companion to my Nikon Z6 in my Cinema body of work and a great 2nd body in my photography sessions. The quality of video while not as good as the z6 is fantastic. it is my set gimbal camera with great balance, coulled with the fantastic kit lens 16 to 50mm dx. true Nikon color, excellent auto focus and clean low light imagery. truely a wonderful little camera bidy for my work, i use the 70 to 250 kit dx lens on my Z6 and it rivals my fx 70 to 200mm, i could not be happier with this kit. i only wish it could have been a little cleaner in high iso as the z6 but for this price it is a minor exception. my other gripe is as of this review there are no replacement batteries in stock, which is very annoying to have to charge on the job, but im sure this will change, not a pro mirrorless cam but it sure acts and performs like one, good job Nikon,

As an owner of the Olympus OMD EM1, EM10, Sony NEX7, Canon M5, and former owner of the Fuji XT3 and XH1 I was able to compare handling, AF performance, and image quality against the Nikon Z50. In my opinion the Z50 is exceptional and excels the ergonomics and handling of all the aforementioned cameras, and easily equals their AF performance.As to image quality, the Z50 has an impressive sensor with excellent dynamic range that makes pulling detail from the shadows easy and revealing. But surprisingly, the Z50 does not provide any notable gains in image quality beyond that of the Micro Four Thirds EM1 or I assume the EM1 Mark II as evidenced by a sidebyside comparison. They are both excellent sensors with great dynamic range that render a lovely color image.The Nikon Z50 also provides a decent but not overwhelming amount of customizable Function buttons that provide a good degree of controls.The sharpness of the 1650mm Nikon kit lens even wide open that is supplied with the Z50 was a totally unexpected surprise. The stabilization of the 1650mm is extremely efficient, although I would have preferred if the Z50 had inbodyimagestabilization. It does not. The Z50 together with the kit lens is a great value for the money and hard to beat although Nikon does not include a lens hoodits extra for another 25, and much better than the Canon M6 or Olympus EM5 Mark III.I was impressed with the exceedingly quiet and dampened shutter of the Z50. Its electronic shutter is a delight for Silent shooting.After three weeks of shooting and analyzing the results my only complaint against the Nikon Z50 is with the processing of its RAW .NEF files. Although Nikon provides a free downloadable RAW processor for its files the interface of the Capture NXD is so dense and byzantine that I earnestly searched for an alternative process with Affinity Photo and Iridient Developer. However, the best results were via the Nikon software. If you prioritize shooting JPEGs then you will love the results outofthebox. Or if you are more demanding, you will be pleased after tweaking the incamera sharpness, contrast, and noise reduction parameters.

One great little cameraI use a d500, d7200, p1000, and w300. Each has its place and function.The z50 is great for family pics, a carry along everything camera, superb for landscape stacking, exceptional noise suppression at high iso so one can use it without a flash in low light. With the adapter I can use all of my f lenses. No downside. I can hand this camera to anyone and they will record great images. In the viewfinder, what you see is what you get. For the above uses, that is a great advantage.I like my DSLR better for high speed wildlife images and burst macro images.

Auto focus is fast and accurate producing sharp photos which can be enlarged without loss of definition. The zoom lenses are high quality and easy to use. A great camera at a great price.

My D850 with with lens attached is massive by comparison to the Z50 so Im able to have the smaller camera with me at all times. The controls are at least similar to my DSLRs and since unlike them its fulltime live view there was no need to spend the better part of a day finetuning my lenses to it. The kit lens is a bit slow f 3.5 wide open but seems to work for most situations. Its great walkaround camera definitely a keeper.

The quality of the body is fantastic it features a metal lens mount other brands use plastic that breaks on the first slight impact and the body is tough but light being a metal alloy.My concerns physically were that my large hands wouldnt be comfortable on the smaller body, but the body is not compromising. On top of that, the grip is satisfyingly deep and features a great thumb rest.Concerns image wise, were the lack of in body image stabilization. However, all of the lenses made for the Z series feature vibration reduction. Coming from a non stabilized body, I was used to it, I had no problems shooting freehand, even on a 200mm lens.Speaking of lenses, I had a previous Nikon F mount collection, I was thrilled to hear that with the included FTZ adapter all of my AFS lenses carried over see image. Ok. I am a pro, in that I earn a living from photography and graphics. So this camera I picked up to see what this generation of cameras with DX sensors were like and have it as a spare in emergency. I am a Nikon user and I know there are lots of other quite sophisticated beasts in other brands. What I can say about this kit is this. Its fantastic fun. The kit lenses that came with it are decent. Got some nice red squirrel pictures, a few decent birding pics, a bunch of landscapes which were fine and some decent studio shots. It is so easy to carry about with you anywhere so family pics were a dream. Youll enjoy using it. Nearly all digital cameras at this price mark are good. Personally I liked the handling of this cutie. Worth the price tag.

A very compact, lightweight camera with many features and settings to learn. However, it is slow. When set to take RAW photos it a few seconds to process them, especially if the monitor is opened for use instead of the viewfinder. Meanwhile, another photo cannot be taken.You may find the camera strap so big that it gets in the way and that a hand strap is more practical if you arent carrying the camera far.If you have big fingers and short fingernails, it may be a challenge to get the memory card out.It takes high quality photos that can be cropped severely and still be useable.

The Z50 is a solid package for the price, as one has to remember this is not the future higher end DX, but mid range, without the IBIS. I have found the sensor to be awesome, vivid, and the kit pancake lens is producing sharp rendering. I was concerned that the lens would not be of high enough quality, but so far, not concerned at all. The Z mount lets me use its bigger brothers, and I can use the F mount lens with my FTZ adapter. I find they kept enough features to mimic my larger Z, so I dont feel like any feature is missing. Took a bit to get used to the moved play back button. The low light performance has been excellent, and seems to be very close to my Z6. Focus has been fast including continuous. I would give this a recommended buy. Oh and the grip is the best of my smaller cameras as have the 6000 family and the Fuji family, so I can compare to others, and the handling of this camera is the best in my opinion.

I have always used a crop sensor camera so thought this would slot in with my other gear.I take landscapes, ICM and wild birds.Its okay for straight landscapes, although it has a tendency to over sharpen.For ICM or anything not normal its terrible.Despite my setting up the menu to allow me to do ICM it manipulates my exposures by adding EV or switching on the auto ISO. Ive lost count of the potential photos it has ruined.If you want something for selfies and Facebook its great but anything out of the ordinary forget it.Oh and its not fast enough for the bird photography when used to the adapter and my 160500mm lens.All in all a disaster area for me.

This is an awesome little rig that makes a great entry level or back up camera for the prosummer crowd. I shoot product photography and vlogs for the outdoor industry and this little camera has made an excellent run gun rig thanks to its lightweight, impressive weather proofing and the fact that it is inexpensive enough that I am not freaking out when it gets knocked around.My Z50 typically rides on the shoulder strap of my backpack. I have had it in snow, rain and rocky mountain dirt and dust and it has yet to fail me. The kit lens is plasticy but likewise has held up well. Ergonomically this feels like a proper camera and not the little cyber shots highschoolers used to carry around. Which is what most cameras in this price range typically remind me of. Likewise the Z50 has a proper button array in mostly the right places which is great for newbies to easily access the most important features without feeling overwhelming. Think of this camera like a stripped down Jeep not a Tesla. The small glass and crop sensor definitely struggle a bit in low light but the files coming out of the camera are great. The 20MP sensor is plenty for social media and makes file transfers quick and easy. If you are going to be taking advantage of the flippy screen for vlogging definitely invest in the small rig bracket if you plan to use a Gorilla pod or tripod. Its not a perfect solution because the bracket blocks the top of the screen where your settings are reflected but its better than having the screen blocked entirely by your tripod. The Smallfig also has to be removed to access the battery compartment and SD Card which is not great considering the run time on these smaller batteries. Definitely pack a spare battery if you plan to be out all day. You can only expect so much from a smaller camera. But overall I love my Z50. It really makes you want to take it everywhere and its proven it can hang.

What a fantastic camera at an incredible price. Im definitely going to pick up another one to help when Im shooting sports or doing portraits. This camera can do it all and even though its a DX sensor, the quality is very good. Definitely beats my 7200 that Im selling I made money with that camera but this Z50 is just faster, lighter, and just flat out better. The autofocus is brilliant, the colors are classic Nikon, and the way it performs will surprise a lot of people. Ive got the Sigma 1835mm f1.8 and 50100mm f1.8 coming in soon.

It does not compare to the quality of my D850 but for everyday, travel, street photography and snapshots is perfect because of the small size and light weight. Keep it in the car or in my pocket. I already own a Nikon D850. This is a great camera but I have not yet owned a mirrorless camera and did not want to spend the same amount I did for the D850 and lens. This Z50 is the prefect solution. The size is really quite nice since it allows you to carry this camera almost everywhere unlike full size models. it is very easy to set up and use both for photos and great video. The two lens in this kit are the perfect combination. I use the 1650 the most but always nice to have a small size telephoto in the bag. The files are not as large as the D850 photos due to the small sensor but they are beautiful and full of color true to what one is shooting. I have found myself taking the Z50 with me much more than I have the D850. Photos are great. Size even better. And the price is just right.

I had a Sony A7 iii with a 24105mm f4 G OSS lens. In addition, I had the Godox wireless flash with a Sony hotshoe mount. Sold the Sony camera and lens, and got this Z50 two lens kit. The performance of this camera is nothing but wow. Pictures with both lenses are tack sharp, and really small camera is now a joy to use, especially with the 1650mm pancake lens that makes this a lightweight camera to travel with. I love the onboard flash on the Z50, which the Sony lacked and was a pain to use indoors. Most low light indoor photos with people in them are usually lame without fill flash, so the Z50 fills that gap very nicely.Both lenses are so sharp and good, that I would purchase a Nikon Z camera just so I can get the lenses. Bokeh, even at the fastest aperture setting is smooth and soft on both lenses. Although I dont really need it, I am tempted to add a f1.8 prime lens that Nikon just announced for the Z system to my kit.I purchased a Godox wireless flash trigger, and a Godox Ving flash that was sold as a bundle on amazon for my Nikon. These flashes work seamlessly with my Godox flash for Sony, so now I can play with multiple remote wireless flash positions for portraits of my family members. Wireless flashes add a whole new dimension to portraits, and 9 out of 10 photos are spectacular with this Z50. I shot monochrome portraits using wireless flashes, and they were jaw dropping good.The other items that I purchased for this kit were the UV and polarizing filters for both lenses, that were really cheap on amazon, and work fantastic.I could never get the same level of sharpness or the vivid colors with the Sony A7 iii as I do on the Z50. Plus, I have several hundred dollars in my pocket left over with this trade, even with the extra flash units and filters I purchased.Super happy with this camera

I recently picked up this kit as a beginnerhobbyist coming directly from film. It feels like a camera I can grow as a photographer with and its been really fun to shoot with. One reason is, its small and light weight so its easy to just grab and go out with. The picture quality is quite good and one card slot is really all I need. Ive been able to use SnapBridge 2.7.1 to upload photos to my iPhone iOS 14.4 without a problem. Lenses have produced nice, sharp, images.

Love the camera. Wonderful pictures out of the camera, fun to use, great form factor. Lens are compact and sharp. I am irritated because I tried to set up bluetooth and WiFi connectivity and got an error message that IOS 13 is not currently compatible. I called Nikon and the nice lady was apologetic and said most Nikon cameras are not currently compatible with IOS 13.3 and Snapbridge. Since the ability to share pictures on the go is an important feature for me and one reason I upgraded to this camera, I am disappointed. The lady said that they are working on it and should have a firmware update soon, but I had the impression that it has been a problem for a while since Snapbridge software identified IOS 13 as the problem. Is it fair to give 3 stars to an otherwise 5 star camera When the firmware arrives, I will change my rating.

I was very skeptical of jumping into the mirrorless fray with the Z series cameras and lenses. I read a few reviews on the Z6 and Z7 but felt the pricing was a little bit out of my budget for a walk around or travel camera since I use a D750 with a whole host of top Nikon glass.So, after a few months of release of the Z50, I decided what the heck for a reasonable entry level of money I could find out for myself what the fuss was all about with the mirrorless trend. If youve owned Nikon digital DSLRs, the Coolpix series, Nikon 1 the Z50 is relatively easy to figure out the knobs, control wheels and software menus. Although, the menu system for the i button didnt sink in until about a week of usage. After I read the manual again, the menus began to be intuitive. I do mostly shoot with the vivid mode with the sharpening bumped up to 8 or 9 and the saturation to 3 or 4 for a very close to Fuji Velvia or even souped up Fuji Provia look. To say I am hooked is an understatement. I immediately ordered the 50250 lens along with the 46mm UV, polarizer and neutralizer filter package from Hoya for the 1650mm lens. The waterfall picture was taken with the polarizer and ND filter attached. I also purchased initially the FTZ adapter to use some Nikon glass such as my manual 50mm f1.8, 70200mm f2.8 AFS VR and 80400mm f4.5f5.6 AFS VR. The results are stunning. Although I would be comfortable using the 1650mm and 50250mm kit lens full time and get good photos. The only caution with the Z50 is obviously the AF is not as snappy on longer lenses used for such for things as wildlife. At this price, I wouldnt expect the Z50 to match the D750s AF capabilities with such glass. Overall, I dont think you can get a much better package than the Z50 for a travel and day to day photo opps setup. Of course, BHs service and shipping are first class. Would highly recommend both the camera and BH to anyone.

I hemmed and hawed about getting the Z50 I had depleted my DX equipment purposely and moved on to full frame. After enough You Tube viewing to make my eyes red. I started to see what most everyone was raving about. A mirrorless camera the size of a bridge camera that would use most of my FX lenses when I wanted it to and a terrific, though be it slow, zoom lens on the thing witch gave the equivalent of a 24 70mm lens in FX. All in a very portable size.In this review I wont get specifically into its operation. I have only had it a few days and admittedly, am unfamiliar with mirrorless cameras. But if what I have been able to do so far is any indication of what I will do in the future with this, Wow hang on. It in conjunction with my FX collection really makes for a bunch of possibilities.Just on first impressions alone, its worth the price. Watch some You Tube videos like I did and then get your hands on one.

But its a crop sensor.But again and again those reviews kept raving about the picture quality out of the Z50.I bought this kit with the FTZ adaptor while holding my breathYou know how sometimes you really think something out and plan for something only to have your purchase let you downThat is NOT the case with this camera.Every thing I have asked this to do, from being a simple point and shoot, to having full control of ISO, Aperture, Shutter, and Focus, both autofocus and manual, to the quality of the images, to the software that comes free with the purchase to download the images with processing to the software that lets me edit the RAW files.Every aspect has been far and away better than I expected.Even the pesky little Snapbridge App that doesnt want to play well with my Bluetooth lets me download photos quickly and conveniently to my iPhone and iPad.During this Corona shutdown I have spent hours each day challenging this thing with difficult circumstances, I could not be more thrilled.The two kit lenses cover the focal lengths you need and they produce fantastic images.Just a heads up, you will want to get a couple of extra batteries. If you love this thing as much as I do youre gonna need them.

I will use this for travel and street photography and in situations where I need to travel light. When I purchased the Z 50, I had fairly low expectations. Much to my surprise, my expectations were far exceeded and the Z 50 has found a permanent place in my camera bag. With the 1650 attached, the Z 50 is easy to carry in a coat pocket so long as youre ok with a bit of a bulge.The image quality from the 1650 is excellent and far better than any kit lens Ive used in the past. Im used to using the D500 and the image quality of the Z 50 is on par with a bit more color noise that completely disappears in post. The 50250 lens also exceeded my image quality expectations and combined with the Z 50 provides a lightweight package for shooting my kids sports outdoors or some larger wildlife in decent light.The eyeAF works very well in good light but is inconsistent in low light. I wasnt expecting mindblowing eyeAF results so Im ok with it. Switching between AF modes and areas is a bit clunky but again, for a basic APSC offering, I can live with that.Allinall Im very happy with the Z 50 and kit lenses, though there are a few areas that could see improvement AF selection controls and eyeAF accuracy in lower light, Im very pleased with the price to quality ratio in Nikons first Z mound APSC offering. Image quality is my ultimate goal, and the kit lensesZ 50 dont disappoint.

This z50 2 lens kit deliversBenefitsSize and weight The z50 and 1650 lens weighs around 1lb and is a little larger than many point shoot cameras.Image quality Even when the image is downsampled to web size images, they are sharp and on par with the bigger full frame kits. Dont let the plasticky lenses fool you. The z mount lenses deliver. This tiger pic was shot from 50ft with the 50250mm.Handling The ergonomics of the grip and camera controls are as good as any full frame camera that costs much more.Battery Life I shot 200 pictures and the battery lost only 1 bar. I think that the rated battery life of 300 pictures is conservative.Lenses These are probably the only 2 lenses you really need. The z mount lenses are amazing.WeaknessesFlip screen The screen flips down for selfies. I dont do selfies or much video but my first impression is that a flip screen that went to the side is more practical.Lenses With the FTZ adapter, you have access to the existing F mount legacy lenses for both full frame FX and apsc DX. You also have access to the limited number of Z mount full frame lenses. The full frame Fmount lenses and Z mount lenses are pricey. If you need them, this can get expensive.Battery The z50 uses a different battery than most of the higher range Nikon DSLRs ie, D7xxx, D750, D850, Z6, Z7 etc which all use the ENEL15. This uses a slightly smaller new ENEL25 which means that you have to buy a different battery if you want extra batteries. If you pack any of the other Nikons, this forces you to pack different batteries and chargers.Grip There is no option for a vertical grip. Some people think this is a must have for vertical portrait shooting and the grip carries and extra battery. Its a matter of personal choice.UHS1 SD card The z50 has a single UHS1 SD card slot. Im not bothered by the idea of a single card slot as this may have been done to minimize size weight of the camera body. But I would have liked to see the faster UHSSD cards supported.Unless you think any of these weaknesses are deal breakers, youre getting almost all of the benefits of a full frame Z6 in a smaller lighter kit for a lot less money. If you want to travel light and have a quality camera, this is an easy choice.

I ordered on, it was nothing short of amazing. The color rendering was amazing even in JPeg. The images were sharp , really beautiful until I shot a bird in flight and a large flaw was evident on the sensor. It looked like a finger print smear. I contacted b h for a no hassle exchange.I received the exchange, it did not have the great color rendering nor the beautiful sharp images but it DOES have a flawed area on the sensor, it looks almost like the exact flaw only it is at the bottom of the sensor. I would recommend anyone getting this camera , first thing, go shoot a sky shot to make sure the sensor is clear and clean. I am going to return this one as well. I am so disappointed as I ordered this camera for a vacation and no time for another exchange.Other than that, the set up and use of the camera is very easy, especially if you are already a Nikon user.

Its got so much going for itIts light, small, comfortable to carry and to handle, extremely intuitive and ergonomic.Once setup with BBF, it is actually more convenient to use than my similarly setup DSLRs.High ISO is surprisingly good but dont expect to be able to take quality indoor Futsol photos at highest auto settingsAuto Focus works very well, and quickly.It offers adaptability and functionality for inexperienced as well as experienced photographers.Color accuracy is excellentWith the adaptor, I can use my other Nikon lenses although, as advertised, some lose autofocus capability.Shooting in RAW provides more than adequate size files.Being able to see exactly what you will get in the view finder, or on the screen, is reason enough to own this mirrorless cameraThe kit lenses, while not fast, are adequate for most purposes, and provide good zoom range.It is great fun to use.Did I mention it is great fun to use.It seems like a bargain to me for what it provides as a kit.One may quibble about the battery capacity, or the pivoting screen that can get in the way for tripod use, or some missing professional capability. Get over it. Nikon is clearly trying to appeal to a very broad audience and is largely successful. Nothing is perfect.Ive yet to use the movie capability or the blue tooth connectivity. To be honest, I do not care about either and will assume from the tech specification that the former, at least, is good. I own and have owned multiple Nikon cameras over a 4 decade span, including currently a D850 and a Z7. I got the Z50 predominantly to use with the FTZ and my endless collection of vintage FMount Dx lens and have to say I am not disappointed. Although slightly less feature rich than its bigger brothers and not full frame, it produces excellent quality images nearly every time, even with manual focus only optics.Its light weight and lower relative price makes it an excellent choice for a travel bag camera or a fun second or even third camera for weddings, etc.My current favorite setup has it paired, via FTZ with a 1972 NikkorO 35mm NonAI lens. Even without any EXIF or metering focus info, the EVF quality and magnification along with Focus Peaking make nailing manual focus fast and easy and the WYSIWYG view finder and histogram make it easy to get good exposure and color balance the first time and every time.

I got this as a camera to try to pick up photography as a hobby. Compared it with the Sony a6400 and landed on this due to the better feel in the hand and the much better organized menus. The two kit lenses cover a long range and I dont think the camera or lens will be the limiting factor in my photos I like that it has a quick switch to move to video and the movable screen on the back is really handy.

I did a lot of research into upgrading and decide to go Mirrorless, after seeing the D500, D7500, and a few Full Frame Nikons. The Nikon Z50 was a real surprise, compact size with all the features I wanted. For Wildlifephotography where I am on my feet for extended periods carrying equipment to myfavourite spots it is ideal. The size negates some of the excess weight of theprofessional SLR bodies but does not compromise on features. Great selection ofnew S lenses are becoming available but the advantage with the Z Cameras isthat with the FTZ adaptor it is possible to use our F series lenses. I bought this to upgrade from a D7100. I really liked the flip out screen and the grip was wonderful.After that it was down hill. Photos where usually one stop over exposed, face detect could not tell the difference between a womans face and her breast, eye detect only worked if the person was looking right at the camera bug eyed.Battery life was only around 100 shots and there are only two native lenses at F6.0.My 7 year old Olympus kicked its butt too and theyre the ones going out of business.Sorry returned.

Had camera for 1 month with 2 lenses. Very happy with image quality, video quality and general ergo. Using 1550 mm lens most of time. Shooting outdoors notices a blur spot on images, looked closer at the lens at the white light, there was a good size chunk of black debris on inside the lens element. It was impossible to clean of course. Looks like a plastic debris from lens itself. Called Nikon, they offered only to send lens to them for complete disassembly and cleaning……Hmm…. I am not sure why Nikon thinks that is the way to get things done. I wanted just lens replaced, its plastic relatively cheap lens and I dont want Nikon to get into it and potentially cause more issued down the road Fortunately, BH happily agreed to replace whole kit instead of dealing with NIKON service. I owned many lenses over the years, Nikon, Canon, Tamron, etc. I never had this issue with chunks of built in debris. Hope this was a fluke. Will see……

I did not think much about it after the Z 50 came out, but after considering the Z fc, I realized the Z 50 would be a better fit with my Z 6II. I am impressed. I use it for travel and walkaround, and it is very light and compact. The 1650mm kit lens is surprising good. I shot a lot of plants and flowers up close in breezes, and it nailed focus and was very sharp. Nikon has not made a lens in the Z mount that is not noticeabley better than the F mount. The Z fc is cool and can encourage manual shooting, but the comfortable grip on the Z 50 is better if you dont use a strap. I would prefer the monitorEVF button be replaced by either the Playback or DISP button. I set it once and forget it hopefully as opposed to frequently shuffling the display options or image review.

It was 106 degrees F today in the Bay Area. I was walking around the Golden Gate park and never noticed the little Z50 camera with its 50250mm lens on my shoulder. This is exactly why I bought this camera. Gone are the days when I want to lug around a D600 with battery grip and a 70200mm F2.8 zoom lens with a bag of four other lenses on the other shoulder.It is also a wonderful surprise when the kit 50200mm lens performed better than expected.

This is a crossover from a snapshot to camera which can take any Nikon lens, with the adaptor. I love its small size, like a snapshot camera. It has many of the options for scenes that the snapshots have and larger cameras dont include. The Pop scene has a lot of creative applications. The Macro scene allows you to get a little bit closer into your subject, though not quite as close as a macro lens. A macro can do 11, this one is more like 14. It can do very rapid multiple exposures, which is very handy for sports, 11 fps in Continuous High Plus mode. It also has a focus tracking feature. Lock onto something and it will track that and keep the focus on that spot as long as it is in the frame, handy with sports. It has both a mechanical shutter and electronic shutter which I like. The controls and menus are very similar to all other Nikons, which is great for me since I have all Nikon equipment and can very easily move from one camera to the next with ease. The kit lens isnt fast at all, similar to snapshot cameras, but the pancake lens is very compact. In the image above the lens is extended for shooting. When done shooting you can retract the lens a bit to make it a bit more pocketsized. I like the larger grip, I dont use the viewfinder much, but with sports photography it helps me keep on the action better than the back screen. And most of all I like that ALL my Nikon lenses will work with the adapter.

I researched digital cameras for months before purchasing one. I was an cell phone camera enthusiast and wanted something better than an entry level camera. This camera is all that and more. This camera is easy to use. I take a lot of landscape, sunset and sunrise pictures and this camera works great. With the quick burst rate I was able to get some really nice pictures of the waves coming in off the gulf. The lenses that come with the the camera are great to start with.

Only took delivery 2 days ago and this camera is awesome, so many features, watched a lot of reviews on YouTube and nobody has a bad word to say about it only people moaning it should have the extra features of the Z6 and Z7but if you want those features you should buy the Z67Seemed a no brainer paying for the 2 Z mount lenses that form the kit, theyd be a lot more expensive bought separately.Cant fault it

Nice Camera for pics and also videos. Takes video at 4k 30fps or 1080p at 120fps which i always use. videos looks so smooth and clear. Only problem i have right now is getting backup batteries for it. Hard to come by and a bit pricy

I bought my Z 50 with 1650 FTZ from BH when the recent sale was announced. Ive been curious about mirrorless but admittedly I was a little apprehensive, after using my larger heavier DSLRs for many years. After watching reading quite a few reviews, I decided my camera bag needs a Z 50. First impressions right out of the box, I was really impressed with the build quality and overall solid feel, especially from a much smaller camera than Im used to. It doesnt feel small if that makes sense. Everything is where it needs to be. I appreciate that Nikon included the popup flash on the Z 50, I dont use it a lot but when I need quick portrait fill catch lights, Im so thankful its there. Using my other nonZ Nikon lenses yields amazing results no downsides or differences that Ive noticed so far. This was a primary factor in my buying decision I have three DX lenses, plus my 70300 AFP FX and they all work perfectly well. The 70300 in particular is just amazing when paired with the Z 50.Some initial wishlist items Im really hoping Nikon adds Animal Eye detection and alternative subject tracking initiation in their next firmware release. Assigning subject tracking to Fn1 or Fn2 or the ISO button would be IDEAL currently its only set to the Ok button on the multi selector, or via the touch screen. A lot of pros are asking Nikon to get some more Z lenses out, but this isnt a factor for me plenty of amazing F mount lenses around, and their current Z lens lineup has my needs more than covered. A dedicated AFON button would be super, but honestly Im using BBF much much less on this Z 50 the focusing system is a game changer.So overall, Im really enjoying this Z 50 and Im very impressed. So much so that Ive deleted my fullframe DSLR wish list in my BH account, and replaced it with a Z 6 wish list, ifwhen I decide to go fullframe. I might be done purchasing new DSLRs it feels weird even saying that.. and happily committed to mirrorless.

They rival my 36 megapixel D810.Practicality. Not only is this camera a bargain at the price, I can use my recent Nikon Fmount lenses with no issues after adding the FTZ adapter. Many common aftermarket lenses from Tamron, Tokina, and Sigma also work well.Planning. If you are planning to go mirrorless, this camera will get you into the game quite handily. One reason I bought it is for the DX sensors crop factor. The 1.5 crop turned my Sigma 2435mm into a lens with the field of view, in 35mm lingo, of 36mm to 52mm. My previous camera was a Pentax that by todays standards was klunky. It was heavy and bulky. Great photos, but not as many features as desired. For that reason, I wanted a lighter camera mirrorless that also shot video and had more advanced features.I did a lot of research and talked to several professionals. Watched videos of the camera being used by professionals. The Z50 met all my criteria. If you are a true professional, this is most likely not your camerait only has one memory card slot. But for a serious amateur who wants an easytouse camera with lots of features, this should be considered.Now that I have used it for several months, I realize that it would have been better to get the body separately and get one more flexible lens to start with. I have the 50250 lens on the camera most of the time. Keep in mind that because of the size of image sensor, this lens has a greater magnification. Look up what DX means.

I really like this camera. I was looking for a mirrorless that would be a step up from my D5600, and this is it. Features somewhere between a D5600 and D7200 depending on who you ask. Small. lightweight body yet still has a good viewfinder and decentsized hand grip. My only real complaint is the common mirrorless delay between startupwake and the ability to take a photo the extra second or two lag can be very frustrating at times.

I bought this product to use with an F to Z mount adaptor with my old 70s Nikkor lenses. Worked great Also I wanted a taste of what mirrorless was all about and I am pretty impressed. I did get the 1650 kit lens and that is the only reason I rated it at 4.

I am a long time Nikon guy and bought into the Z system early on. I bought the Z50 to complement my Z6. I found it slow and clunky and it sometimes freezes up. It is great for video and low light. Now that the z5 is out go for full frame. I know lots of folks love this camera, Just not me. Maybe the z6 spoiled me. Sold it on line because I wouldnt recommend to a friend

I bought the Z50 because Im used to Nikon and I wanted something small and easy to carry. For the past month I have taken it with me every time I leave the house and I am very happy with it. Its small and light, but the grip is substantial and makes it much easier to hold than other small cameras Ive tried.Image quality is outstanding with the included lenses. The default Auto White Balance A1 has been spot on in every lighting situation I been in so far. High ISO performance up to 12800 is terrific. Noise reduction is a bit aggressive at the default setting, but it can be adjusted to your liking.A very nice touch is that Auto ISO has an Auto setting for minimum shutter speed that will set the minimum speed dynamically based on the focal length set. It defaults to roughly 1focal length but you can adjust that be a stop or two slower or faster based on how shaky your hands are.Focus is fast and accurate for things that dont move much. It will track motion, but not very quickly. I actually use the motion tracking feature for stills. Set it to track the spot you want to focus on, and then you can recompose and it will automatically keep focus on the spot you set. That way you dont have to move the focus point around manually. Very nice.The faceeye detection feature works well if the face dominates the scene. It also works with multiple faces, but again, it works best if the faces are the major part of the image. The farther the faces, the less well they are detected.A firmware update added animal faceeye detection. It works on cats and dogs if they are close, but nothing else.In addition to the kit lenses, I have used my 35mm 1.8 and 70300 AFP lenses with the FTZ adapter. Both of those setups work very well. The biggest down side is the added size and weight. Using the FTZ seems to increases the wake time when you tap the shutter a bit see below, but I havent actually timed it.The camera generally works quickly, in large part because you can customize the buttons and dials in many useful ways. You can even assign something to the Record button when in Still Photography mode. Being able to customize the options in the i menu is also great. Everything works the way you expect on a Nikon, so if youre a Nikon shooter youll adjust to this camera very quickly.I was skeptical about an electronic viewfinder EVF, but I love it. Its bright, adjusts automatically based on the light, shows you almost exactly what your final image will look like, and displays a lot of useful information in a way that isnt distracting. A nice bonus is that you can zoom the viewfinder even in auto focus. Im also surprised that I actually prefer viewing images through the viewfinder instead of on the rear display, especially in bright light. I often turn off the rear display to save battery power, and I enjoy using it that way. Even the menus work well in the EVF.That said, the rear display is actually great. I didnt think I would care about the touch screen, but its really nice, especially for menus. The screen tilts up and down, which is nice when shooting high or low shots. I thought the selfy mode was silly, but then I actually got a nice picture of my wife, son and I using it. Its better than a cell phone for selfies because you can pop up the flash in harsh light.Speaking of the flash, it works great. Its set by default to do fill flash, and it does so very well. It isnt all that powerful, but its great for adding some fill if you arent too far away from the subject. My Nikon flashes work great with it.The only complaints I have are slow wake time and short battery life. With the camera on and asleep, it takes a little over a second to come back to life after you tap the shutter button. Not bad, but not instantaneous like a DSLR. Ive gotten used tapping the shutter button as I raise the camera to my eye, and that makes it much less of an issue. Also, turning either kit lens from the locked travel position to shooting position wakes the camera up, so that also helps make it feel less laggy. Still, its an adjustment coming from a DSLR for sure.The EVF is great to use, but it sucks battery power. Im used to shooting all day with a single battery, but that isnt possible with this camera. I suggest you get one or two extra batteries with it.Overall, those minor drawbacks do not significantly impact my enjoyment of this terrific little camera. Its delightfully fun to use, easy to carry, the images are outstanding, and its easy to have with me all the time.

And I have owned a few Most of them Nikon.I think this is actually a much better camera than the other Z series cameras Simply because it is so small, portable, and fast. I especially enjoy the electronica viewfinder. That is a huge upgrade over the old DSLR optical viewfinders, in my opinion.11 frames per second Is more than enough for most scenarios. The FTZ adapter really comes in handy. So that you can use your old Nikon F mount lenses, and save a lot of money. All the F mount lenses work flawlessly, it seems.I couldnt be happier

Havent had it too long and with the world currently on hold its been hard to get out and shoot. So Im still getting acquainted with it. But so far I love everything about. Lightweight, easy to use and solid build quality. Nikon quality. I have a Nikon d500 which is the pinnacle of Nikon performance. This is a good companion. This is definitely not a mirrorless version of the d500. Probably more like a d7500 but definitely a step up from 3xxx and 5xxx cameras. I purchased it with the FTZ adapter. No sense spending extra money on the chintzy kit lenses they offer when I already had some decent dslr lenses. They all work flawlessly on this body.

This is an excellent camera. The size and weight make this camera easy to carry and use. The new Z Mount coupled with the new mirrorless feature make this camera very functional in low light situations. Pictures in low light conditions look more natural without the flash although there is one built in for extreme low light shooting situations. This camera is not full frame but most amateur photographers will not notice the difference. So the question you will face is the the full frame Z5Z7 worth two to four times the Z50 price Only you can decide but I think full frame is for professional photographers. Heres a real life example. If you take a picture of the front of your house, you want the house and its surrounding shrubbery. You really dont want the sides of your neighbors houses and clouds high in the sky so you are going to frame the shot with the focal plane ring anyway. So full frame is of little or no value in this shooting situation. However, if you are shooting landscapes each frame will have 1.5X more image area proportioned around the edges and this could be of more value. I gave this camera kit a four star rating instead of five because I dont like changing lens. I like a flexible zoom lens 18200mm but Nikon did not Christmas Discount a kit with this make up. Now that the Black Friday sales are off, Id consider the Z50 Body with the mirrorless 24200 lens. Unfortunately, the zoom lens adds more bulk and weight and tends to compromise the lightness and usability of the Z50. This rating really isnt a criticism of the camera but more of Nikons marketing strategy. Dont buy something that you dont want just because its on sale

A professional photographer I went to HS with highly recommended Nikon.This camera is almost fool proof . I bout it with the typical pair of Nikor lenses. The whole thing is not overly pricy.Very pleased with pictures of hummingbirds, hot air balloons etc.

I absolutely love this camera I had been a user of standard DSLR cameras, and decided I wanted to give the mirror less a try. I absolutely love it Very easy to use. Very light weight. I love being able to use the monitor or put it up to my eye and use the viewfinder. I also love that the picture that I take comes right up in the viewfinder so that I can immediately see how it turned out.

I waited six years for a DX camera with video phase detection autofocus. Here it is, and mirrorless to boot. I love this camera. It takes fantastic photos, makes great videos, and handles like a real grownup camera. I traded in my Nikon D5200 and Canon 60D to buy it. It does everything those two cameras did and more. The D5200 was just the right size and handled great, but the video was jerky. The D60 took great photos, but was heavy. I ended up not using it because it was too bulky to carry around. I considered all the Z50 rivals. They might have a little better autofocus, better lens selection, be more compact with tiny EV or none at all, but its the way Nikons handle that drew me to the Z50. What a joy. There are some peccadilloes though nothings perfect. Were going to have to wait for a full lens selection, although this camera is so good Id have no qualms buying full frame lenses, if only it had IBIS camera or lens. I bought the FTZ adapter so I could use my DX 35mm 1.8 lens. It works beautifully. Face detection autofocus is a little iffy in video. It works well, but not always on the face youd like, especially if your main face turns away or leaves the frame. Better to turn it off and use object tracking which sticks like glue. AFArea autofocus has an annoying way of focusing on better lit objects in the background, especially in dim light however, low light performance is really good. OK, so maybe autofocus could be a tad bit faster, but fortunately all these obstacles can be overcome with quick and easy menu selections. To my mind, this is the best allaround APSC camera you can buy for the price.

I bought this kit to use as an all around small and lightweight kit. Image quality is excellent and the 2 kit lenses are sharp. My only complaint is the electronic viewfinder. It takes a couple of seconds to activate which can make action and nature photography difficult. For most everything else, its great.

A spare is essential and they are not in stock anywhere at the moment.Okay Ive been looking through the menus a lot on the screen but Ive took around 100 images and Ive had to charge the battery 4 times already. Im hoping for some improvement with warmer weather.

Purchased this to possibly replace our Nikon D5600. This mirrorless camera is amazing. The focus points works very well even in low light conditions with the kit lens. The FTZ adapter works although not as quickly as the Z mount lens. But because of the other lenses I have this was the most economical decision to make without burning a few thousand on more glass.

As a longtime shooter and a former pro, I was reluctant for many years to buy an APSC body, but I finally bought a D500 and was simply amazed at the image quality. I was still a little reluctant about buying the Z50but I wanted something lightweight and relatively cheap to keep in my car, for quick trips to the beach or that particular time when Ive wished I had a camera with me and didnt. However, after reading many reviews here at BH and elsewhere, I thought Id see if the Z50 is really that good.Its better than I imagined. The image quality rivals theD500, its better than many of my previous FX DSLR bodies and I would go so faras to say it gives my Z6 II a run for its money, and maybe even my Z7. No, itsnot going to equal a fullframe camera as far as noise goes, but the Z50handles noise about as well as the D500 and it is easily correctable withsoftware like DxO PureRAW or Topaz DeNoise.I put it to the test as soon as I received it, with myFmount lenses and an FTZ adapter, including the Nikkor 500mm PF, the AFP70300mm and the Tamron 100400mmall with the same extraordinaryresultsperfect images that were brought to perfection quickly and easily inACR and needed no further editing in PS.Now, one caveat, and I am not reducing the rating because ofit as it is not a matter of camera quality the refurbished unit I received hadsome spots on the sensor. Its the first time Ive received a refurb camerathat was less than perfect and not likenew. I could perhaps have cleaned it but I decided Id rather return and buy a brandnew unit, with the 2lens kit.Suffice it to say, you cannot go wrong with the Z50

Its a scaled down Z67. But much lighter. I needed something for long bike rides. Very easy to operate, the menu system is the same as the big brothers. I like the pop up fill flash. The lenses are adequate. I can borrow lenses from my other Nikons if I need something faster and longer, and Im willing to pay the weight penalty.I highly recommend this camera.

Great gateway camera to mirrorless cameras. Very compact light. If you are a previous Nikon digital user the menus and overall controls should be familiar. FTZ adapter allows you to make use of your F mount lenses although be aware that only lenses made in about the last ten years will be fully functional. Older lenses may not auto focus. Battery life is ok but buying a second battery would be a good idea. The kit lenses are quite good light and sharp. The overall lightness of system is greatly appreciated when spending several hours carrying the equipment in the field. So far so good

Im very pleased with the Z50 and its two kit lenses. The camera itself is a perfect size. Its well balanced and handles perfectly with the built in grip. Image quality is top notch, with that famous Nikon color palette. Im finding I prefer this to my Fujifilm mirrorless cameras, due to the pop of the images and the much better menu system.For me the move up to full frame wasnt worth the money. Im familiar with the DX image size and it works for me. People knock this camera because there are only two DXZ lenses for it now. Well, these are really the only two lenses that you will ever need, and you could really get by with just the 1650. I was worried about the f6.3 on the far end, but the camera handles it fine if you let it pick ISO. If you are looking for a daily driver, great sizeweight and fantastic image quality, this is a one stop package.

I wanted a companion camera for my Z7 that was small and compact yet retained the picture quality I had become used to with my Z7. I christened the Z50 on a recent trip to Whipsnade Zoo, it didnt miss a shot regardless, wether the animals were stationary or moving and it faithfully reproduced the images I had taken in every aspect. I would recommend this camera for Vloggers, Beginners Enthusiasts..it is SO capable.

I have several Nikon cameras lots of lenses This is the most fun, light, easy to use, and small enough to slip in your coat pocket with 1650mm lenscamera Nikon makes. I was VERY impressed with the picture quality and the video pictures. If you want a nice, easy to operate camera for a vacation trip without packing the car with lots of lens and camera bodys This little guy is the choice you should make.

First, this is misadvertised as, inter alia, for beginners this is the best camera I have ever used, I buy the best camera for my needsI have had this for only two days testing it against my best DSLR, the D500, it equals it for resolution, so the D500, at twice the weight, is for tradeinThe view through the viewfinder is a Wow experience, with its superb colour rendition. Then I realised that this is a preview of the picture it will take. Thus if the exposure set is inadequate the view is dark, alerting one to adjust the settings. The silent setting is a dream for wildlife. I have tried the FX DX Canons which would not find focus in poor light or resolve nearly as well as my D500. This does.

Recently made the switch from DSLR to the Z50 and when i pulled it out of the box and noticed how light the camera and lenses were i was skeptical of its performance. However on first use it proved it packs a punch even in the evening without flash on. Great camera . I also like that with the F to Z adapter I can still make use of my DSLR lenses.
