Been with Nikon since 2018. Had a few cameras in the past, by far the F mounts are the favourite. I’ve had the Nikon D3500, Nikon Z5 and Canon M50 MII (change). As far as personal preference goes, mirrorless cameras are high quality and sharpness excelling. Price, a lot! And something I’ve not wanted to go above and beyond for, for rail photography. Back to what I bought, Nikon D3400. 8 years old now, got it for £235 in the sales with the kit lens. Pre-owned (Very good) which, it is. Like the sister, D3500; easy setup, handles everything you’d want from a camera. With it being ‘the budget camera now’ I’d not hesitate to get one if it’s still in good nick. Identical to the D3500, so already, no words to say but, it’s a great camera. Might ask, why go to the D3400 when the D3500 came out 2 years later? I overshot my D3500, to the mirror having faults 6 years later, inner wires not working properly. But, had its fair share of shots. Excessive of 100k. Wasn’t paying £500/1000 for a camera for simple photos. Went back the way, best choice. Hopefully isn’t a waffle on in the review, but to give some more help to those who are after a camera on a budget that delivers. Personal preference I’ve found to help a lot! *ps, I highly recommend anyone who likes 18mm shots to 135mm (landscape photography) to get the Nikon AF-S 18/135mm Lens. £120 now, best buy for F mounts. Thanks for reading, hope it helps anyone out there.

Purchased as a replacement for a previous Nikon (D80) which developed a fault. The camera is lighter than the D80 but most of the functions are familiar from the previous camera. Took 1600 indoor close up shots in poor light without flash on a recent assignemnt and the camera performed well with the battery lasting well. Not yet used extensively outdoors. Was able to transfer cover for the accessory shoe from D80. Camera did not come with lens hood or filters so had to purchase these separately. A high performance camera at a good value price. 3 people found this helpful

I’ve used this camera now for nearly 2 years and it’s amazing! Compared to most high-tech DSLR cameras this is a cheap option but don’t let that fool you, it’s lightweight, easy to use and can produce some stunning images, the image attached was taken with this camera. The lens that it comes with is very good for common use but if you are looking for close-up shots or better landscape shots consider buying a telephoto or wide-angle lens to add to it. Overall a great camera for enthusiasts that won’t break the bank.

Top notch
. Bought to upgrade from my D80, and in readiness for a forthcoming college course (mature student). It is smaller and lighter than the D80 for reasons to be revealed shortly. It has a very user friendly menu screen with on-screen help on some aspects. Very similar in design to previous D series cameras. The battery and charger are new EN-EL 14A. The control panel is now on the rear screen rather than the narrow panel on the top of the D80. There is only one command dial which defaults to shutter speed and a multifunctional button near it to use it as an apperture dial. This, like many features on the D3400 is also available in the rear screen. Whichever way you prefer works here. Now the warning. This camera, like most, if not all new models has dropped the focus motor from the body. Only AF-P and AF-S lenses will allow auto focus. All older lenses will fit but only work in manual focus. You will also lose i-TTL functionality with the older lenses. The camera comes with a very good kit lens and the (cheaper) AF-S lenses give you everything except VR and Super Silent zoom. I invested in a 70-300 zoom lens to complete the switchover Very good purchase and I look forward to happy snapping One person found this helpful

I have never had one of these cameras before and from the shots I got from my most recent holiday, I am happy with it. Easy to use both close up and far away and for the money it was great, there are also a lot of on line tutorials on this camera to help you set it up, I watched several. The battery lasted for a whole 5 days easy with moderate use. Over all until I am enlightened to something I don’t know this is as they say the best all round Beginners SLR. My friend recommended it to me as I am to you. 13 people found this helpful

New to Nikon and i love this camera , really pleased with the results and very happy with the Bluetooth connections to my iPhone , easy transfer of photo’s to my mobile phone , no problems at all , the camera’s easy to use and set up , easy to follow instructions , im just using it on the auto settings so can’t review it about all the settings but i am very pleased , ive added photo’s so you can see how good the camera is , macro and distance , so happy with it all , ive bought a SanDisk Extreme PRO 32 GB SDHC Memory Card up to 95 MB/s, Class 10 and a Crumpler Light Delight 2500 Bag for Camera for the Nikon D3400 . Build quality of camera is good and comes in different colors but i am happy with the black version , lense is easy to fit and gets very close to subjects and is a good lense for distant photo’s . A good starter camera and a good quality one at that , price is good and battery lasts well , love the fact that it has a separate battery charger and the battery charges very fast , just over 2-3hrs . Highly recommend this camera for any new starter in taking photos , its a good weight and not to heavy and comes with a good neck strap . 41 people found this helpful

I’ve always enjoyed photography and as my old camera used these past umpteen years gave up the ghost a few months ago l decided to look for a new one to replace it. So glad l purchased the D3400, a great piece of kit, love the snapbridge which works well, l can send captured pics instantly anywhere via email, and adjust pics via camera app, quality is excellent as is the price. The only gripe is the instruction manual that comes with it, beginners would benefit a read of Nikon D3400 for dummies to get the best out of this excellent product.
