When I want to jot down my thoughts in free write mode, this is really helpful. I can carry it around without any fuss. The only drawback is the battery there is no way to switch off the pen when you are not using it, so it is a waste of battery. If you are planning to use the surface with the keyboard, my suggestion is to avoid purchasing this.
RHeite –
I picked up the Surface to use as an easily portable Windowsbased tablet that could also work as a means to use as a digital notetaking device. This pen works great for that, fits in the hand well, doesnt cause fatigue and the sensitivity has been great. The only complaint is the nib of the pen takes a bit to get used to if you are used to Android based pens such as the note, sometimes it is a bit weird to not see a clear protrusion, but there are thirdparty replacements that are more pointed than a round tip and more akin to using a regular pen on paper.
DannyD –
I probably dont love this pen as much. As funny as it seems I lost my pen in between the couch. I had no idea it was even there. I went crazy looking for it then gave up. So I had to purchase another one. luckily It was at a discounted price online during offer. The pen that was lost eventually was found. Now I have two pens and there some members of my household were being accused of taking my first pen. Oops. The Surface pen works great I have some issues with my Surface Pro 7 reading my surface pen but, overall great. The battery life is good. I prefer using batteries than using the slim pen and using a charger adapter.
Shden –
Very smooth. The buttons have zero lag….they respond instantly. Feels good in the hand. The top eraser is very convenient and can alternatively be used to click on things and swipe up and down. Its also magnetized to you can stick it on metal surfaces. The only con is that you need to use a little pressure before the pen tip registers on the screen. Overall a great pen.

Bought to give as a gift to someone with a surface laptop. Works great for the most part. I use this pen on a surface tablet and it seems to work better because of the detachable keyboard on the tablet. If anyone is looking to draw on a Microsoft surface, I recommend this pen as you get fantastic use out of it beyond just drawing. Great pen for those who sign and review documents on their computers as well.
theAristocrat –
End up having to buy a new one about every 3 to 4 months, repairing and professional Microsoft help still cant get it to work. All the buttons work, but the tip just eventually stops responding. Im in about 500 worth of pens over 3 years not. I stopped trying to fix the ones I have because it cost more in professional help I just smash them on concrete and buy another one. Great plan to take all my money though NEVER remove the tip for any reason, the pen will immediately never write again, but all the buttonspairing will work.

Our youngest was undertaking some online leaning which necessitated writing on the screen of her Surface Go. The finger works, but not easily. We decided to bite the bullet and get the Surface Pen. So glad we did. It makes not only writing, but general navigation much easier. And, of course, the 12 year old is now a master after just a couple of days. The magnet attachment to the side of the screen is inspired because, lets be honest, kids lose things Takes batteries which is great. Will be interesting to see how long they last.
DarthShader –
Makes interacting with the Surface tablet touch screen easy and more effective. This version requires a AAAA yes that is quadruple A battery thatbis included. I originally bought this back in 2016 for my Surface 3 and thought that I needed a new one for the Surface Pro 7. All it needed was a fresh battery.
jaybobski –
I use the Surface Pen primarily for taking notes on my Surface Go 2, so the experience may differ slightly if youre using a different Surface model.Having both a 2nd gen Apple Pencil and the Surface Pen, I can definitely say the Surface Pen has an advantage in that the tip has more give for lack of a better term making writing feel a bit more natural on a solid glass surface. I also love how the Surface Pen allows use of the opposite end as an eraser, just like an actual pencil. Seems like common sense to me. Although the design isnt as sleek and elegant as the Apple Pencil, its far more functional. That being said, I dont use it to draw, so I cannot speak to its drawing capabilities.
Wysteria –
I bought the pen online shortly after I purchase my laptop. However, when it came in, the side of the box was damaged as if someone had dropped it before packaging it for delivery. Other than that, the pen works well. Had to manually connect it, but it is responsive and does all of the things Microsoft has advertised it too. Some of the things Ive noticedThe tip of the pen isnt sealed in like the Apple Pencil. There are times where it does wobble and makes clicky noises. No replacement tips includedOnly one side of the pen is magnetic if you test this out, the flat side of the pen has the strongest magnet. The pen works smoothly, though it will make squiggly lines sometimes, which does irk people if they are an artist or do math.
EWind –
Feels great.Works flawlessly across Surface Duo, Go, Pro and Book, using the same unit the single stylus works for all levels.Feels much better than the flat stylus. The only brand that takes advantage of all stylus features. The replaceable battery is a musthave. But, the tips wear out too quickly and are difficult to find in stores.
Knightdaleshopper –
Love the way this works with any Windows laptop. Its soooo easy to use. Just turn it on and go I have a similar product by Lenovo, and I cant get it to work with my Lenovo laptop. Frustrating. This is a much better product to use with any Windows laptop especially with Zoom calls now. Im tutoring someone in math using this pen to write on the whiteboard in Zoom. Works extremely well
GeorgeD –
Good pen does the job as its supposed to. However, I dont see how its better than the older version with a clip. Perhaps artists who draw in specialized application might find a noticeable difference, but when inking with OneNote it performs the same as the previous model. By the way, absence of the clip in this generation adds one shortcoming to it. I feel like upgrading wasnt worth it. The good thing is that it uses only one battery. Hope at least the battery life will be better compared to the previous generation.

Full disclosure, I do work for Geek Squad. But that doesnt stop me from being quite happy with the Surface Pen in a personal, professional, and creative capacity. I really like the new Surface Pen. Its more technologically capable, comes with an erase button on the back that doubles as a quick launch button, and is pretty slick looking, even if my ideal colour wasnt in stock. Its compatible with most recent Surface devices, like the Surface Pro 3 and newer. Not all devices will support the tilt detection, though. And it uses a kind of hardtofind AAAA battery, but it lasts for months. It doesnt have the clip like the older pens, but it does have stronger magnets to stick quite solidly to your Surface device. As a digital artist, its quite the improvement over the Surface Pro 3 pen that originally came with my Surface Pro 3. And the best part I got it for free, thanks to an accessory exchange through Best Buys Geek Squad Protection Total Plan.
Jayyy –
The pen is pretty cool. I like how bold the poppy red is. My initial thought was that this pen was expensive. I dont know if I would say that the pen is worth the money but it is a cool pen. I like that the eraser on the pen works like an actual eraser, which comes in handy when utilizing the pen.
jennyd –
so despite my low rating its a pretty good stylus, pretty accurate and gets the job done. i dont really have much to compare it to besides my 70 drawing tablets in the past. but for how expensive it is the nibs break like cheap plastic. which is exactly what it is. i didnt thick it would be much of an issue but it completely messes up your line quality AND DONT EVEN TRY OUTLINING unless your going for the art style of a 5 year old. i didnt even drop it or anything i probably have used it for drawing for 20 hours total in 2 months. like it may just me pressing to hard on it but if im paying 90 bucks for something that was practically free with the previous model i expect it to be made of diamond. like at least give us spare nibs in the box instead of having to buy them separately. Oh also i get MAJOR paranoia that i left my pen somewhere i was working on campus because there is nothing to hold it with then a sub par magnet. like at least give it a clip to put on the key bored the tracking device for it is kind of cool but still want to prevent losing it then to be expected to lose this 90 stylus. so im just mad about how easy the nibs break and how easy it is to lose
Jane –
Worked fine at first but the tips break very easy and then you cant use the pen. Replacement tips are pricey and at the rate I would expect to need to replace them you will end up spending a lot. Lots of other pens come with replacement tips included so I find it weird this does not. If I could go back I would have gotten a cheaper generic pen that is compatible with the device.
bgrant –
The pen works great overall. Sometimes when you first use it after a while for some reason it changes the screen brightness and color, but maybe thats related to my power settings, Im not sure. The only downside and what Im disappointed about is the very top of the pen. Its a little piece of rubber supported by plastic which broke while I was writing notes. The pen still functions, but there is significantly more rubber exposed from the tip which is not starting to bend to one direction from use. I cant find the warranty information anywhere on here, so Im not even hopeful for an exchange. Overall its a good product, feels nice and has a good weight. Its magnetic and attaches on the left side of the tablet. Im left handed, so this is perfect for me, but I could see that being somewhat annoying if I were right handed, but certainly not a deal breaker by any means…it has to go somewhere.
collegestudent –
Surface Pen is good for normal tasks such as note taking, writing, and light drawingdesign. The pen design is kept the same. I wished Microsoft included the other pen tips for its price but they didnt. Bluetooth connects seamlessly with the computer. Ive used it lightly for 3 weeks and its now at 98, so I was rather surprised at the speed of battery drain, but its understandable. There are some jiggles when drawing straight lines slowly, so that is something to keep in mind if you are an artist and youre buying this to do some digital work. Otherwise, for normal use it works fine.
guitarpete987 –
Theres no comparison. I believe Microsoft has designed the most comfortable and wellperforming active stylus on the market. This is the perfect way to do notetaking or art on a mobile device. Its also great to use just to have a precision pointing device for your Surface. It makes navigation a breeze. Ive tried the Apple Pencil, and in my opinion this accessory is superior.I love the intuitive and natural turn over to erase functionality and I love the accuracy and smoothness you feel when you write with this. If it breaks, I would buy it again without question.I highly recommend this accessory. My only qualm is that it is a bit expensive, but I still recommend purchasing it.

Ok so to be real…150 is a lot for a pen in my eyes But after reading some reviews and asking friends about it, I bought it for my kiddo for his birthday To see his crusty eyes light up that morning like it was Christmas in June was priceless The functionality is great, it holds a long 8 hour charge we havent used it longer than that, smooth transition on the screen, and it matched the mouse we got to coordinate. So this has been our best buy yet Even if a little on that bougie side.
Anonymous –
Smooth style and great functioning…I love to use it with my surface pro My daughters are both really creative and use it create amazing edits and they both love the way that it connects to your device, which they like to use when gaming I like to use it for my design work, as well as sketchingcoloringpainting The pen connects to tour device and senses the amount of pressure you apply when drawing so that it is as close to using an actual pen or pain brush I couldnt ask for better
doeservice –
i feel bad giving this only 1 star but its more a review about packaging, labeling and education in store because i would NOT have bought my laptop if i had known it was the only microsoft surface that did not come with a microsoft pen. it was the crux of my choice to pay more for the surface. i was told that it was a must have item and even got a lease for the whole thing…. but alas. mond you nowhere was it mentioned on either laptop or pen that they were not compatible.best buy should have done better by me on this one. it is very frustrating as a designer yet ludite. i trusted and i should NOT have.you live and you learn i guess.
Tony –
It does well drawing in painting programs like photoshop on my surface I dont need to calibrate or download any special drivers I just insert the battery sync it with the surface and it is good the go.The battery life on the pen lasts a long time I have been using it to draw since may about an hour a every other day on average and it has 79 percent. My only two gripes with it are that it only has one button and you cant make it function as right click. The second is a nitpick but after a while you will get residue on where the magnets are when you attach it to the tablet however if you use a case with a clip its avoidable.
ADDISSYN –
I am a college student and creative writer working on long projects as well as essays. I also happen to be taking art classes at this time. This pen works great for my Microsoft Surface Go because it allows me to best utilize all the functions of my tablet. I use it for editing, drawing, taking notes, and scrolling when I am in a small space without my typecover. The magnet in the pen attaches the pen to my tablet, and it never falls off. It takes some getting used to to move from writing with paper and pen to writing with a stylus and tablet, but its definitely worth it for the Surface.
ZEUS –
This is a sort of niche product. My daughter loves to draw so I bought it for her to doodle on my Surface Pro. The only reason I gave it 4 starts was because I think its a bit overpriced and the button sometimes doesnt open the app like its supposed to. Overall it is a great product and writesdraws really well.
billing1 –
The surface pen works reasonably well. However, it doesnt write EXACTLY where you aim. Its very close, though. One very nice feature about the Surface Pen is that the battery lasts forever. I use the Surface Pen for 4 hours per day, 4 days per week, and at that usage rate, I have only had to change the battery once in 1.5 years. One small complaint is that the color is not really ice blue as it appears in Best Buys photo. The actual pen is just plain silvergray.
LilBoosie404 –
This pen is great and I have the Matte Black color. This pen does the job for me especially when using it for graphic design, drawing, writing notes, and using it like a mouse… it is compatible with Adobe if youre wondering. It is powered by a battery and it is not rechargeable so if the battery runs out of juice you would have to purchase a new one. The pen I have has no lag and like I said it does the job. It has a strong magnet so it does connect to the side of my Microsoft Surface Pro 7 laptop and sticks on pretty good because of the strong magnets and I dont have to worry about it coming off my laptop. It feels good to hold has some good weight to it but not heavy. It has two buttons one on the side and one on top and you can customize each button to perform different duties.
Gerald –
I am new to the Surface Pen but glad I got it as part of the bundle when getting the Surface Pro. It feels good in your hand with just enough weight so you know something is there but not to heavy. It has a magnet and attaches easily to the Surface Pro so it can be found easily or store when placed in a backpack or carrying case. I am still getting use to the functionality of what it can do.
kltmom –
This is the best accessory for the Surface Pro it can even take the place of a mouse with all its functionality. It uses a battery, so you dont have to worry about keeping it charged. It conveniently magnetically attaches to the side of the Surface Pro to keep it on hand for easy access.I like the feel of it in use when writing or drawing on the Surface Pro it feels surprisingly natural and smooth. It is a must for anyone who purchases the Surface Pro
ACreativeMind –
I just purchased the surface pro 7 for school and lite editing away from home, and the Surface Pen has been a good accessory for both. I can easily a effectively take notes using the Surface pen with the one Note app. The only drawback is I wish there were more buttons for setting up actions I use frequently, and its a bit pricey. But other than that it a good aaccessory to pair with your surface pro once you get used to it.
OnTheSurface –
Great feel and response, but having to purchase a second pen since the first one stopped responding to the point drawing etc. Bought new tips first to see if it would fix the issue negative. Tried unpairing and repairing negative. Eraser and buttons still worked as expected. Hopefully, this one will not have the same issue.
Alex –
This pen is amazing It makes school work super easy and I love the features it includes with the button on top if you click the button then it opens up apps for you. The only fault I found is that the locator for the pen does not work. I ended up losing it for about two weeks until I finally found it behind the couch and the locator feature would have saved me time. Other than that, I love it
TK33 –
Expensive for what it is but makes using the Surface so much easier. Very easy to set up and use and makes using the Surface much easier in tight places like an airplane or train. Unfortunately, I keep having to replace mine since it is very easy to misplace dropped one on a plane and couldnt find it and another is somewhere is my house, safely hidden away by my 2 year old. It would be nice if there was a Find my Pen feature since these are connected via bluetooth anyway. I use it with my Surface Pro 4.
User –
Users 2 report they are pleased with the performance of the pen. They are using it for drawingart projectsanimation on the tablet. One of our first was defective and required 2 trips back to BB to replace… annoying but it happens.Only rating 4 stars as they are expensiveeven on sale. Samsung must be making a boat load of s on these but Apple is no different. Understand there are alternate manufacturers but do your research to ensure quality before purchasing one of those.
DoorAssembly –
Excellent response and captures all that I need to use the pen. It is a bit pricey but I got it on sale. I need to see if there is an accessory carrying pouch. It does magnetically attach to surface but when I place it in my carrying bag it sometimes comes detach. Overall I like it.
BioMed –
The pen works flawlessly with the Surface Pro 7 Had no issues connecting to Bluetooth and paired super easily. The only thing Im a little disappointed with, is the battery. I was expecting the battery to be a rechargeable lithium ion battery however, it uses replaceable AAAA batteries. I would much prefer a stylus with less waste, but hopefully the batteries last a long time
Anonymous –
I had the original grey pen from a while back. The new one writes so much better. It was definitely a learning curve from the last pen which is the only reason I gave it an average for ease of use. It pretty much sets itself up though. Writes really well. The buttons on the side are a little hard to use, but I dont really use them so it doesnt affect me.
BulbaSword –
My friend and I both have Surface Book laptops but he got the previous generation Surface pen with it. When I got my Surface Book I was somehow able to pick up this new version cheaper than the older version in this beautiful ice blue color. The older version needed a lot more pressure to get it to work. With this new version the lightest tap is registered and I love that It just feels a whole lot better. I can just write more naturally than before. I love the fact that it has an eraser too I also have the Apple Pencil for my iPad pro and I would take the Surface Pen over the Apple Pencil any day Not to mention its a whole lot cheaper especially when it goes on sale. While it works out of the box you need to set it up via Bluetooth to take full advantage of the built in eraser button.
TimmyTimmyJohnJohn –
This is the best kind of pen that you can get for the Microsoft surface, its just really expensive. The thirdparty surface pens dont really work as well. Theyre not bad but theyre not as good as The ones that Microsoft makes. That said, I ended up returning it because of the price. I had a serious case of buyers remorse.
lpn0729 –
My hubby loves this pen. It is a bit pricey, but Microsoft stuff generally is. Hubby says the pen glides smoothly. If you have a Surface, you should have this pen. He uses the pen with OneNote as well as other programs. The magnet is also nice.
EBMarysville1 –
Great pen. Very precise and has many features. I especially like that it takes AAAA batteries, because they last an extremely long time and can be switched out in seconds Compared to not being able to use it if it needed to be recharged. The convenience of quickly replacing them and keep working is fantastic.
Trigger –
I own the SP 7 and the pen makes it much easier to use the touchscreen than using my fingers. It works as advertised. It is not as smooth as similar items such as the Apple Pencil, but it gets the job done. The one thing that annoyed me was that if you hold the pen a little away from the screen, it still works. Sometimes, it would unintentionally click on something before I had a chance to physically touch the screen with the pen. Other than that, its worth investing in if you want the full Surface Pro experience.
JD2641 –
The surface pen is about as good as a stylus can get. It writes great on my surface book and the features it has allow you to do a lot of cool stuff. I particularly like being able to program the buttons on it for different actions. If you have a surface computer you really should get one of these to go with it or else youre missing out on half the functionality. The only gripe I have with the pen is its cost. The 100 Microsoft wants for it is pretty steep, I found one at my best buy for 50 on sale though
Anonymous –
I got this for my Surface Go to use One Notes and its great So easy to write all my university notes in One Notes with the pen and the interchangable tips makes note taking easier. This is my second pen because the orginal pen landed on the tip on floor which stuffed the sensitivity of the pen became more sensitive to the point the pen is not touching the Tablet but is rendering that it is Highly recommend for a student using surface go for notes its a must have.
R T. –
I bought this to use with my surface go and it works great, it sticks to the side of the device using strong magnets which is a nice feature. Its nice and responsive. Its really fun to use and got me into drawing again. The side button is used as a right click when you hold and tap on the screen and the eraser end actually works as eraser when drawing which is cool. The eraser is also a button which can be used to open a selection of apps depending on how you click it, for example, double click takes a screenshot or press and hold to open sticky notes its all customisable. Its a feature I thought I wouldnt use but actually comes in handy a lot. I did have one minor issue where the eraser button stopped working but I just had to unpair pair it again and it works fine now. It runs on AAAA batteries which arent that common but easy enough to find look for E96 battery and the battery lasts for ages anyway. It is a bit pricey for what it is, but if you are into drawing or want to do note taking its really handy. Although technically it can do everything a mouse can do its not a mouse replacement in my opinion. For file management or anything like that its quite clunky, the trackpad on the keyboard cover is much easier to use for that.

This is a very good digital pen, just make sure it works with your laptop.I originally tried an HP Envy, for which this pen worked very well. However, I just didnt like that particular 2in1. I returned that laptop for the Lenovo Yoga 6 and it is Wacom compatible. That meant back with the Surface Pen to be replaced with a Bamboo Ink. I believe I like the Surface pen a bit better, but it isnt compatible.I did return the pen, but not based on its merit, because of compatibility.

Used with a Surface Go 2 The Surface Pen is not a necessity, like the keyboard, but is definitely nice to have for taking notes and doodling. Since I use OneNote for keeping class notebooks, journals, and planning a pen is essential to allow full use of the software. The pen sticks very nicely to the side of the Go 2, and I have discovered that the pen tip makes it much easier to touch those small icons on the taskbar. I had an older model second generation pen has the eraser tip with a clip on the barrel already in use, and this newer version is pretty much the same except for improved sensitivity to pressure, and the tilt function which is VERY nice to have when doodling. Those two improvements would make it worth the cost of buying this newest model pen if you do any drawing or doodling. If you are just taking notes and only interested in handwriting, the older model pen works pretty much the same for writing and recognition. The AAAA battery comes with it, and from what I have read does not need replacing very often. Pen automatically turns off when not in use, so no button clicking needed for it to be instantly ready to use when needed. Also picked up the 3pack of assorted size tips to try out but havent tried the different sizes yet to see if there is much difference. There are other pens out there, but check to see if they have Bluetooth most do not and check for eraser on top function most have buttonpush erasing. If you need the Bluetooth and like the eraser on top method, then this pen is going to be the best solution. An OEM pen is usually the best device to use, unless you have a very good reason to try something else.Stay Safe
Queencityella –
I am only giving three stars because I dont use it. Its simply an extraneous gadget that wasnt cheap and I certainly didnt need. For what I need, I can use my finger touch just as well as that.Im sure that for those who draw or do special projects it may be well worth it, but unless you have a real need for it, I wouldnt waste your money. Mine has been on my bedside table almost since the day I bought it.
marionfamily2011 –
I was looking to get a pen for my SB2, and researched all the pen models before my purchase. The 1776 model was the preferred model. Once that was out of the way, I looked for the right price. Since owning the pen, it does everything I expected and a must have if youre into note taking, drawing or coloring. I highly recommend this pen
dusty –
Really top notchI have used it extensively with builtin Whiteboard and it is wonderful you essentially use the combination of Surface and Pen as the best substitute for note taking, quick sketches, etc.It replaces you paper notessketches in a way I never thought would feel SOOO natural. And some features like using the back end of the pen to erase are so natural that you discover them on your own, without reading any guide.
vmiller –
I love this pen I use it for digital art with my surface, its very comfortable in the hand which is a huge plus since I use it for long periods of time. The color is so pretty, I was expecting it to be a bit brighter red but thats okay haha. the only reason I gave 4 stars is because I already broke a nib which they seem extremely easy to break and the replacements can be a bit pricey. so until it fix it Im using my husbands pen.
1a2b3c –
Love this pen more than I expected. It is much better than Samsungs tab s6 in two respects. First it is much thicker and easier to hold. Second, no buttons so there arent any accidently touches that cause unwanted features to popup.Being able to turn the pen upside down and just erase your mistakes is amazing. Also, there is absolutely no visible lag when taking notes I am not an artist so I cant speak to drawing. In short, this is great pen that meets all my needs. Finally, save yourself some money and buy an openbox excellent condition pen.
HiFiBlaster –
Phenomenal and necessary investment if you own a Surface I purchased this color to hopefully help my absent minded child to not forget it somewhere.Quick and easy setup. Only negative is it takes an AAAA battery. No. Thats not a typo. Its a quadruple A battery. I didnt even know they existed.
MonicaL –
Great product. Sturdy and easy to use. I like it attaches to the laptop case I purchased. I like the color and the material is made. Its not too light and not too heavy. I would definitely recommend this product. My son takes it everywhere and use it often to write on his laptoptablet.
mahalo1774 –
The pros are the colors and ease of functionality. The cons are its compatibility with Microsoft Office i.e. Word, Excel. Ive noticed that when I write with this pen, the text would appear at an angle, even if I change the Microsoft certified tips. I still dont know if the issue is with the pen itself, the software programs, or both, but as long as I am able to write my notes and complete my projects, I am still satisfied.
Bradley –
I have tried several pens from different brands and this one was by far my favorite. It has a good weight, it looks great, and it writes well. It is a little pricy, but I was able to get it on sale. The eraser is great and I really havent seen that on other pens. My only wish is that the side button would be a little easier to find and click.
benb –
Ive been using the same surface pen for awhile… It was worth spending some money on the upgrade, thats about all I can say, that and that if you need a pen and own a surface, the surface pens are the best pens to buy, I own a pen that works on surface along with other devices and it doesnt come close to the quality for writing. I wish it was rechargeable or more likely I wish they would have come out with a case for the slim pen for the pro 7 as that one is better but not better enough without the keyboard case to get that one instead. Also it takes an AAAA battery so make sure to buy one or two spares of those, the battery lasted me about 4 to 6 months in the old pen and I dont expect much different from this one.
Zer0Divine –
Very high attention to detail with the different pressure levels and easeofuse on your art projects and even for writing. Feels good in your hand and has an incredible battery life. Unfortunately it is not rechargeable but Im not complaining at all since Ive heavily used mine since I bought it and im still at around 95 battery This also has shortcuts to apps that you can custom assign yourself.
KJ86 –
Highly recommend getting this pen if you are doing any sort of drawing or signing documents. My daughter needed a laptop for virtual learning, so we purchased the Surface Pro. The majority of her assignments were much easier to execute due to the fact that she could physically write on the assignments with this pen rather than print them out and handwrite everything.
Axel –
The Surface Pen is a great tool in place of a mouse for the Surface, if you want to draw, or edit photos. However…this is my 2nd one after 2 days. The first started having a powerconnectivity issue even though it had new battery and I also bought more. It would show 4 Battery on the computer, then disconnect. Then the pen would not turn on. After Id fiddle with the battery and cap portion it would finally come back on showing 100. Then the next day Id go through it again. Side note This takes one AAAA Battery, which is a little steep on price and limited availability in stores but lasts a year. Overall, get one of these if you have or are getting a Surface.
Jimbo –
The pen is very useful especially if youre a student. The only problem is the tip. In the beginning, I give it a small use and in less of 6 months the tip broked. At that time I didnt care about the tip because again, I didnt use it very often but then I discover the great functions of the pen and then I decide to buy the extra tips. I consider that the extra tips are way better than the original tip. It is more comfortable for writing and drawing and it seems more resistant. If youre going to use the pen very often, you should buy the extra tips because you will definitely need them.
Cyrus –
Works great but I get annoyed if you touch screen to long it brings up a menu. When I drawing it does get annoying but works great otherwise. The color is more of a silverish blue does not match what the picture shows. It was great for me because Id rather have silver. Also magnet is great sticks to the side of my surface pro great.
mjab87 –
This on works very seamlessly with the Surface Pro 7 touchscreen. As a college instructor teaching online for the first time, this has been a great help for my recorded lectures with PowerPoint. What I like most about it is the fact that it works intuitively. Then end erases like a pencil. Because of this, I dont have to think much about what I need to do during the recorded lecture. I HIGHLY recommend.

Do you really need it Maybe. Should you buy it YesIf you are new to the Surface product line then you need to experience all it has to offer and that includes the Surface Pen. The Surface line up offers many ala cart addons and options one of which is the Surface Pen. With the ability to physically digitally write on your Surface it is worth investing in the Surface Pen even if it is not a part of your daily routine. What you need to keep in mind is the Surface Pen is far more than your typical stylus. Its customizable buttons are great shortcut tools for taking screen shots or navigating through presentations. You can reprogram them for various different actions in most of your applications. Bottom line is the Surface Pen is not necessarily a novelty accessory it can be a great tool but you also need to take a few minutes to learn how it will best work for you.Check out YouTube for some great tips, tricks and hacks for your Surface Pen.Just like the other great Surface accessories the Surface Pen can be pricey. Especially if you dont really know qll that you can donwith it other than writing. Luckily just like the other great Surface accessories you can find it on sale regularly.

Blows an apple pencil out of the water. I needed a small device for college and started off with an ipad and apple pencil until icloud lost an entire presentation. I switched to having a Microsoft Surface with this Microsoft Pen and its been such an improvement. The first time I flipped the pen over and it automatically erased a mistake I had made as if it were a real pencil I was excited. Every time i needed to erase with the Apple pencil was a pain. Vastly superior product in my opinion.

This pen just opens up so many more options on a surface go, especially as a student. Writing notes and multitasking on the surface go has become so much easier than using it with just the keyboard. It is especially useful when using the surface go as a tablet. An absolute must buy as a student

Nice feel. Writes okay. Sometimes requires multiple taps to choose things. Not quite as good as your finger but more precise when that control is needed. Not the greatest for right clicking but that could be do to my lack of experience with a stylus.
Rudy –
Feels nice in your hand, writes nicely too However whats up with not having a rechargeable battery Otherwise, no regrets buying it. However, I got this on sale and would definitely not pay the full msrpVery useful for photo editingMine didnt sync automatically, so 1 point knocked off for ease of use.

There was some confusion as to what color was on sale. Why, I have yet to figure out. Apparently if you purchase a type cover of one color, the pen must match. Didnt fit for me and I ended up paying more than I should have. BB needs to review their store policies for conflicts and make it easier for the customer to purchase what they need rather than what BB wants to get rid of. I needed two colors to differentiate the pens while using my SP and my Surface Book 2.

I bought this to go with my surface pro 7 and I cant say too much bad about it at all. It matches the black computer and Ive used it in several meetings very effectively. I got it on sale for 60, which I really liked. I do a lot of online meetings that I used to draw on white boards for. The surface pen has helped to make the change to digital more smooth. There are some great chrome plugins you can draw on any screen you share now. If you need to present online, this is the tool to buy.

I could barely keep mine in my hand. Its so freaking small and slippery.Wouldve been better if Microsoft offered some kind of highfriction sheath accessory for this thing to make it easier to hold onto. I likely wouldve bought it.Ive had an Apple Pencil, so I was used to its larger, lowerfriction tip and prefer that, so I wanted one for this stylus, but of course, Microsoft doesnt include any more tips with this device. For other tips, youll have to pay another 20.The tip selection scandal wouldve been more forgivable if this thing MSRPd for less, but at 100, its a bit much. Good thing I got my as an Open Box item.Really, Microsoft needs to mimic the design of the Apple Pencil, which is so easy to use.
MathTeacher –
The Surface Pen is really the reason I purchased a Surface. At my previous school we used iPads with Apple Pencil, and although I wasnt a fan of my Apple apps, I loved the ease at which the pencil worked. However, the Apple Pencil, would need charged daily, and I had the first Gen that had to be plugged in to charge. The Surface Pen has a battery, so you dont need to charge it. I wont know how long the battery will last until later, but it is very nice to have it ready to go whenever. The pen is also very responsive to use, which is what I need for math lessons.

I bought this for my daughters surface pro. It works great and she uses it all the time. Weve had it a little over a month now and havent had any problems. She uses it to draw on her surface and its smooth and works just like a pencil or pen would as far as drawing but on the computer of course. If you have a surface youll definitely need one of these.
Jerry –
I like the pen in general. It has some weight to it so that it doesnt feel flimsy. Seems to be responsive as well.My biggest disappointment though, is that it really can only be used on the whiteboard. What none of the literature says is that to get full use out of it to make notes on documents and other applications, you have to purchase the 99 per yr. Office 365 package. That kinda sucks
wvfiddler –
This is a terrific pain, and it works perfectly with my Microsoft Surface Pro 7. I looked at cheaper, knockoff pens, but they werent as intuitive to use. The flip over erase function is worth the additional cost alone. My only complaint is that the pen is always on, which goes through batteries much faster than I would like. I bought a set of rechargeable AAAA batteries, so I always have a fresh one at the ready. There is also a hack which I am using that involves using a hole punch to make a circle of paper which you drop into the battery compartment in order to prevent contact.
NewM1AirUser –
Works as advertised. Would be 5 stars if it werent for the price differences in different color models. Its not hard to do premanufacture data collection on color preference from users and reflect that on what they pump out. The platinumsilver is obviously the most popular color choice but functions the same but costs more. In all, this review is mostly a gripe about costs but pen works as should.

This has a similar weight and feel to a traditional refillable ballpoint pen. However, I feel that it slides across the Surface Pro 6 screen a little too smoothly compared with a traditional pen and paper and slightly more so than the Apple Pencil 2 on the new iPad Pro. I anticipate that Ill get used to this. There a few settings you can adjust for reasons I cant explain, turning the cursor off made my handwriting much neater. So far Ive used the Pen in a few different apps, including third party ones. Its fully integrated into Microsoft Edge, Word, Excel, Powerpoint and crucially, OneNote. Drawing diagrams, writing maths equations and marking up is much quicker, easier and gets better results, compared with using a mouse or trackpad.Overall Im very pleased with my purchase and plan to use it a lot on my upcoming teacher training course
Computerchick –
Ive had this pen for a few months now and I love it. It works great and it looks just like my handwriting good or bad thing. There have been a couple of times it glitched or was a little slow but it was a short term thing that didnt cause too much issue may even be a computer thing. The other thing is that the covering around the tip of my pen broke. The pen still works no problem but I worry about the tip breaking without that covering. Ive also struggled to fine replacements.

I do design work both professionally and recreational and this pen makes my time spent with digital design both easier and fun. Its accuracy to the screen is incredibly useful and makes drawing digital feel natural again. Super simple connection and once I got it I was hooked. I find myself doodling in my down time with it since it has such a pencil to paper feel. Artists of all abilities should give this a shot and see for themselves how much theyd enjoy it.
Gibbi –
Be ware the jitter I bought this and while for some time it worked perfectly the pen has a crazy litter. Ive tried everything to fix it but somehow it just does not disappear. I cannot draw straight lines on my surface, although I can do pretty well on penpaper. My advice research other options. Its a pretty pricey purchase to be disappointed on.It can still work, I have to work fast and use the automatic pen smoothing option to get clean inks when drawing, but my sketches leave something to be desired.
Mot0wn –
When I got my surface I decided I didnt want this product and I was going to go after market. Although the aftermarket one works well, the small things such as flipping over and erasing and smaller lines made it a great addition. Now this has some cons. Non rechargable less open but theres work arounds for everything. Had to add this to the art tool set
Tbyte –
The Microsoft Surface Pen is sleek in design and great for using on my Microsoft Surface Pro. It synced easily onto my laptop and was ready to use instantly. The durability of this pen is phenomenal as this is only my second one after a time span of about 2 years. The touch of the pen onto the screen of the laptop does no harm but instead is an extension of my finger with pinpoint accuracy which I use to draw or simply move around folders and files. The Microsoft Surface Pen is the pen to get if you are looking for a great design and state of the art functionality
Kiki –
This is my daughters third pen. She loves it It is a musthave for taking notes in college. She wore out her first pen and lost the second pen. Thank goodness this replacement pen was on sale as the pen is a bit pricey, and she is on a college budget. Would recommend this product.
Raysandshine –
This is my first experience with a Microsoft surface pen. I got it for my surface book 3. I am fully enjoying the smoothness of writing and drawing with this pen as well as the one click function to bring up the whiteboard. I have small hands and have no issue with this pen being bulky.
zapperabbado –
I bought the MS Surface Pen for my 11 yr old granddaughter and she loves it. I have notices she is using it for her school work as well as creating a variety of graphics of her own design. I was going to show her how to use it and by the time I got there, she knew more about it than I did. It is a nd excellent product and is well built.
KKT1 –
They have improved the technology in this pen than from earlier versions. It works well. It is Easy to use. Tip is still breakable. Not rechargeable. It is expensive for what it is. However I would still recommend. Almost as good as the Apple Pencil.
kagey –
This is a must have if using any version of a Surface Book. I purchased this along side a Surface Book 3 and it does exactly what its suppose to. I like the fact that it magnetically attaches to the side of the book. Makes it really easy to grab and use when I need to capture something or do an annotation.
WaterBottle –
Cant really say how well it worked. I bought it and 4 days later my Microsoft Surface tablet was stolen, along with the Surface Pen. It seemed like it would be good but I really cant say. Unfortunately, I dont have enough money to buy another Microsoft Surface tablet because they are too expensive.
ThisGuyHere –
Its fine. Could use more buttonsfunctionality. Would be nice if it came with extra tips. It has a nice feel in hand, and the storage on the side of the Surface Pro is satisfying.Poppy Red looks nothing like any of the pictures online though. Its nowhere near as vibrant. Even the packaging shows it as a nice bright red, but its actually a fairly ugly dull red color.
mwseniff –
I admit I havent got the hang of the pen yet. Its obviously more capable than I can presently make use of. I like the fact that it is like a fine point pen. It can select a very small screen object. If the keyboard is connected you can choose with the pen and select with the enter key.All my tablet experience is with iPads. But my computer skills are from the MSDOSWindows world. I was hoping to bridge the gap with the pens precision. It does that admirably. The rest is up to me to learn and practice. So I suppose its me that is responsible for the 4 star instead of 5 star rating. YMMV
red66stang –
I bought this while on sale to use with a new 2in1. I had used Surface devices in the past and knew the pen was responsive and high quality. It paired quickly and works extremely well with my nonsurface 2in1.I have also tested the same laptop with another brand stylus but came away unimpressed. The other stylus was not nearly as responsive and lacked the overall quality feel of the surface pen.
Metalastic –
I find the pen only useful for tasks that I would normally hand write. This means tasks like marking up a pdf or word document, taking notes during meetings, or annotating screenshots or photos. Some people say they use it for Windows operation moving files, selecting things on the screen, games, but I find the pen more cumbersome for those. If you want to right click, you have to find the little button on the side, or wait a second after you contact the screen and it will eventually register as a right mouse click. Trying to grab a corner of a window and resize it takes extra patience. I find it better just to use the trackpad on the keyboard. I think the Apple Pen works better smoother flow, better palm rejection, but then you have to use the whole Apple ecosystem. For those saying the Wacom Bamboo is better, I have one word for you eraser. Having the back end of the Microsoft Pen as an eraser is as natural as using a pencil to write notes. Yes you can program one of the buttons on the Wacom pen to erase, but then you have to find it on the side of the pen as youre writingdrawing. Overall a good pen. Only needed for specific uses, but the best solution if you want to takes notes, write on photosscreenshots.

I am a tattoo artist that was brought up in a time of pencils and paper. I was reluctant to shelve my ole tried and true 2 but, its a new era and leading the way I can say with out a moments hesitation is the Surface Pro7 and its multifunctional Pen. An issue Ive seen with other brands and even earlier models of the Surface Pro tends to be lagging. I went in with very little expections and left a true believer. They hit the nail on the head this time. Take it fromSomeone who uses it every day to put food on the table. It stands Right next to any after market Pen out there today.
DebG –
I bought this for my 12th grader to use with his Surface Pro tablet. He loves it. The color is a match with his keyboardcover, which red and black combo is his favorite colors. He showed me how he can click the pencil and the drawing screen on his tablet appears to use the pencil. Magic.
Pandooby –
I struggled a lot while choosing a pen for my new Surface Pro. I considered a few generic ones approved by Microsoft but the reviews discouraged me and I am glad they did. I got this pen a bit cheaper than the usual price and it was worth every cent.If you are an artist or an avid notetaker, buy the Microsoft pen.The only drawback that I gope Microsoft fixes, is that it needs a battery.
DrHdwGuy –
Five stars this thing works well. Really would like a clip of some sort for clipping to a shirt or coat pocket. When Im moving around, the pen can be easily knocked off the edge of the tablet no practical way to make the magnet strong enough. Maybe some sort of aftermarket clip
JCOLEMAN –
I have had three Surface pens for my Surface Pros. This pen was the best iteration to date. I didnt think that the pen would make such an improvement but was a great improvement over the original and the second model. This product makes your writingdrawing experience much better.
brecklundin –
I love the color, it works perfectly with my Microsoft Surface Book 3 15 model. It is easy to hold but did take a while to get used to the locating the button. There is a flat side where the rubber flat button is found as well as the way it attaches to the tablet section of the system where there are magnets along the side edges. It attaches pretty firmly too.The tip is nice, writes smoothly but not so smooth as to feel slippery. I like that part. I use it several hours daily. In about four months of use the tip shows little if any wear. I still would buy a few extra tips for back up and to see if you prefer a different hardness.Oh, the battery came at about 99 charge left. These are AAAA nonrechargeable batteries. MS says they should last about a year or more I would imagine that depends a lot on how you use it and how often.
Cody –
The pen is often the only accessory I use with my Surface Pro, moreso than the type cover. I use my Surface Pro for note taking and drawing a lot, so this makes sense. The pen works really well, feels premium, and has a battery that you only need to replace once or twice a year. The only downside I can think of is the fact these are no longer included with the Surface Pro itself.

This Microsoft pen stylus is good for people who havent tried drawing with a Wacom pen or an XPPen stylus. Id highly recommend getting either of those two over Microsofts pen and tablets if youre really serious about drawing or painting on a tablet screen. The main issue I have been running with this stylus is that its not accurate enough, every stroke has a type of jitter effect that will have you moving and rotating the canvas around until the wave effect is minimized on the stroke youre trying to get down. Microsofts pen is great for quick sketching, just dont expect to get any serious work done without fighting with the pen to land the stroke exactly where you want it. For example, drawing perfect circles freehand is near impossible with this pen. The stroke starts running off to the sides as if it was expecting you to keep drawing a straight line only to realize that youre trying to draw a curve and then it jumps back to the pen. But by then youre left with an oblong shape instead of a nice crisp circle. Overall Id say its a good Pen Stylus for sketching and prototyping or taking notes but it will fight you along the way when you try to get detailed strokes put down. If you already have the previous version of this pen Id say dont bother upgrading to thisone, wait until Microsoft releases a new version to hopefully have a better experience.

Im trying to find a replacement pen for my surface pro 2. Although beautiful and a nice weight and color this pen does not work with surface pro 2. It synced but was unresponsive on the screen. I would recommend for other compatible devices but not for the surface pro 2.
Elaine –
Pros The pen works great with the Surface Pro. I can use it to draw and to write on documents. Its great for my work as well as for my own use.Cons The cost price of the pen is expensive. Luckily I got a great deal that meant I got 13 off.
krose –
I purchased a MS Surface Pro for everyday computer use and drawinggraphics. After extensive research I determined this device would be the best for what I was looking for, which was correct all but this pen. Even before they break and they break VERY quickly the applied pressure is inaccurate to the settings you put in place on the computer. The pen doesnt match up to how you set it, and its not just the applications fault, as recalibration of the pen with the tablet doesnt help the inconsistency. My biggest peeve with the item though, is that for an electronic pen thats made specifically for the device youre using it on, thats priced at upwards of 80, to be such poor quality that the plastic coverings on the tip crack with hardly any pressure placed on the tip of the pen at all makes it pretty clear theyre manufacturing these things as a gimmick to make some extra bucks on an already expensive tablet. Ive already exchanged the pen once for the malfunctioning, opened the new one to use it but ONCE before the plastic tip at the end has cracked again, the sensor is bent because this plastic is supposed to protect it, and with absolute minimal usage pretty much unusable for drawing at this point. Hopefully I can still return this and find another brand with better quality pens.
Port –
Going on six months now since buying into the Surface. So far this pen has been great. I do tons of school work on my surface and so far the pen has not displayed any issues. The tip still works flawlessly. My only gripe is that I wish the different tips were included with the pen when you bought it. And for that I will remove one star. But outside of that it has worked great and I am sure it will last for a long time as I am a bit careful with my gear.
Steenah –
I got this Surface Pen in the color Black, along with the Microsoft Surface Pro 7. I wanted a tablet for beginning my learning process of Digital Art.This Pen was easy to learn the functions of, especially for someone who had never touched such a device. Very comfortable to hold, as comparable to a normal pen or pencil as Ive found since working with these things.I love it. The pressure sensitivity is fantastic and more responsive than others Ive since tried.Youll love how easy of a transition from paper to digital this is
CoryM –
I love a great ink pen. The smoothness of a great ink pen writing on high quality paper is satisfying on a very fundamental level. Writing people know what I mean. The experience of using a Surface Pen on a Surface device is like taking the smoothest pen youve ever written with and using it on the best paper you can imagine. Theres a solidness to the feel but since you are literally writing on glass it glides like you wouldnt believe.
Troy –
This is the best Surface pen. Despite the various colors, this model of pen is the best that the Suface offers. Great battery life and easy to replace batteries. Make sure you invest in a couple of AAAA yes, quadruple A batteries when you purchase, not sure you can get these at your local grocery store.
Crude –
Overall, wonderful surface pro pen. Works just as well as similar to the Apple pen but for Windows Surface Tablets. No issues so far and it has a feature where you double click it and you can set it up to open any software, I usually set it to Adobe Photoshop to do my graphic design. I believe the tips are changeable, if you do want pressurized tips youd have to buy a set.
toni –
The Surface Pen works well, it makes opening sites easy and it has an easy flow when in use. I almost returned it thinking there was a problem with the pen because it would not open anything on the computer, but when I took it to the Geek repair they found that the problem was not the pen but the computer, after adjusting the computer the pen worked just fine. I also love that it has a magnet to avoid losing the pen.
InvalidCommand –
My 3rd one out of 4 years it appears that at every year it improves. I love the double tap to depiction anything on the screen and afterward you can compose, underline and feature. Anything. I have utilized it in gatherings to write notes and afterward it adjusts with my One Drive and the notes are accessible anyplace, even using my Android telephone. Its an extraordinary pen. Would recommend for anybody hoping to improve the composition or drawing experience on their Surface item. Quietly hanging tight for the additional capacity for drawing with the side of the nib.
Lora –
I use this for art and illustration. Its quite sensitive and I like that when paired with the Surface Pro you can customize the settings. Im quite heavyhanded so its nice to be able to tell it adjust for that.I find the buttons on the side to be nearly unusable. I feel like half the time it doesnt register my clicking it, which is frustrating since its very useful to be able to register that side button to a rightclick or undo in art programs. Maybe its user error, or maybe I got a bad pen, but its something to keep in mind.
NorthernCyclist –
Works well with the Surface Pro. Attaches firmly to the side, and stays attached when in my bag which is a bonus. Has a flat side so it doesnt roll off the table.Has a button at the eraser end and on the side that are configurable to launch applications. This is really useful for me to easily take a screen grab and mark it up. Good responsive drawing speed and range of pressures. The thing I find distracting though is that the Surface detects then pen when its some distance above the screen, so you dont always feel like you have to touch it to do anything. The on screen cursor for the pen tip is really distracting, but I turned this off in Settings. This is quite a contrast to the Apple Pencil on iPad where it does really feel like youre drawing on the screen. Perhaps something Ill get used to.Overall very happy with it so far.

I used it for 10 days and exchanged it for a bamboo ink. This pen has its issues. READ THIS Link has more details httpsanswers.microsoft.comenussurfaceforumsurfpronewsurfdriverssurfaceprointermittentpeninaccuracywhenhand28ef856600034c68a9646c2562423eb0If you want to use this for note taking then I would suggest to go for bamboo ink which is 30 cheaper. I really liked the surface pen but it has its issues. For me it manifested in the form of a noticeable offset in accuracy around the corners of the screen while writing. Almost every other line, I had to erase the last 1 or 2 words near the edges of the screen on the OneNote app. Drove me NUTS For note taking, I believe Ipad Pro Apple pencil are the best hands down. However, if you want to stick to the windows ecosystem like me and you want to mainly take notes, then WAIT for Microsoft to FIX THE BUG with the tilt sensor in the new surface pens. Until then, you will be happy with the Bamboo ink.
jbeaves09 –
Ive had this pen for a couple of months. I use it 2 to 3 times a week for note taking and the rubber covering the tip is already fraying and coming off.Im afraid Ill be replacing it soon but for 80, I would have hoped it would last a bit longer doing what it was made to do. Overall the pen feels great, heavy and of very high quality, but some corners were apparently cut in designing the tip which is going to be the part making the most direct surface to surface contact.Overall, it syncs up easily and is extremely user friendly. Just very poor durability but if youre fond of writing or doodling graphs, its the only option that Im aware of.
HockeyGod719 –
Awesome pen just wish these were rechargeable like apple pens or like the new ones for the pro x but either way love the weight and the feel works amazingly and takes 1 quad A battery first time ever using one lol. And got mine on sale even better Bought batteries off Amazon 6 pack for like 6 bucks have on hand.
skaerwer –
This pen is essential if you have any type of Surface device… period. Having the Surface without the pen makes no sense imo. I was able to annotate on a document with ease, highlight, underline, circle, you name it so easy with the Surface Pen. Being able to right click with it is a cool feature and Ive only touched the surface pun intended with the uses of the device.
TW1216 –
So I got this basically because it was a good deal and my case came with a pen holder anyway. Didnt think Id have much use, but better to have it now then pay full price when needed later. I have used it every day for work notes. Great way to save some paper and deciliter my desk. The handwriting recognition works great. I like that you can perform 3 functions based on how you click the top, plus the eraser end actually erases Very worth it.
Sophia –
Overall the product is compatible with the Surface computer and works well with Onenote, but the design of the pen tip is poorly done. The tip can easily bend overtime, and can cause the black coating over the thin tip to break which causes the pen do be basically unusable. I already had an replacement with Microsoft warranty, but it broke again. Therefore, when purchasing this pen, please consider the tip may break easily.
drunkndisordly88 –
Cannot purchase the Surface Pro 7 without one of these 80 stylespens. I however lost the first pen within the first week then decided to retrofit the computer cover using some speaker wire like a leash havent misplaced it since. These work great on this computer. A little pricey but isnt anything Microsoft.
SdotJoe –
Good but easy to lose, would it kill them to put some sort of Find my Pen feature on this dang thing where itll make some sort of noise so that I can find it on the chance it falls off the surfaceIm on 2 and I can still see that my PC sees my other surface pen and it wouldve saved me 60 if it could make a dang noise so that Id know where it is. But I guess thats how they keep you coming back to buy more 60 losable surface pens.
theAristocrat –
Im close to 500 in just replacing these pens at 120 a pop they all eventually stop working. Doesnt matter where you buy it Bestbuy, or Microsoft, the tip eventually just stops writing but all the buttons and pairing works. The longest I could get one to go is about 8 months. This is with professional Microsoft troubleshooting on ALL of them. I just smash them on concrete and buy news one now. Makes me feel a bit better about losing hundreds of dollars for lousy quality but expensive products
Abult –
It takes a little time to get use to it but it works well. I would of gave it 3 stars as I run into a lot of quirks but I also only have lower end surface. Likely computers fualt. Writes accurate but I wish it autopopulated more. I seem to have to press keyboard more often then not. Scrolling is also to be desired. However, fine accurate details its spot on. Lastly for stylus that does not have ton of features its pricy.
KayDee –
This was something I actually hadnt planned on purchasing, but they were running a package deal on accessories for the tablet I bought so I ended up getting it. Im so glad I did I love this pen, it works great I use it way more than I ever thought I would, it really comes in handy. I would recommend it highly.
APFLORES413 –
The surface pen is a great addition to my Surface Pro 7 experience. I love that it magnetically attaches to the Surface. The magnets are strong enough that it will not haphazardly fall off. The tip of this pen is nice and smooth, I dont have that tapping sound and feeling like the Apple Pencil. It feels like I am writing on paper which does enhance the writing experience. On the back end, it can be used as an eraser when writing. Also, tapping the button will also bring up Windows Whiteboard, an easy tap when I need to take notes.Again, the Surface Pen is a must have if you own a Surface computer.
estze9 –
The pen is great, super responsive, the tilt and preasure level detection work phenomenally well with my surface pro 6, its comfortable to handle for extended periods, and the ability to erase with the back like you would with a pen is great. Opening software or taking screenshots with the button is extremely convenient too Battery life is great as well. Its a little pricey when bought at full retail price though.
Surfaceuser –
My first pen was lost and so was I. My Surface was purchased with a Keyboard and no pen. After a few months of owning my surface the pen became a must have accessory. It makes note taking amazingly easy and quick with a small click of the pen. If you have been thinking about it, trust me, its worth it. You and your surface will never be the same without each other. A must have to use your Surface to its fulll potential.
Tribbletribble –
This was purchased as a gift to accompany a SurfacePro but will probably be returned. The sales associate suggested it to complete the package but the gift recipient has sloppy handwriting normally and the pencil replicates that. There might be programs that smooth the motion for you but for him the pencil is just unnecessary, as it probably is for anyone who is not drawing freehand on their tablet. I have my own pencil for my ipad and I find it MUCH more difficult to draw with this than with a lead pencil on paper.
Phillyslix –
I bought this to use with my Surface Pro 7. It came with the battery already installed. It writes very smooth. You flip it over just like a pencil to erase. I opted to buy this open box to save additional money. It came with everything that a new would. If you have any if the Surface devices, then this pen will complete your purchase.
Kmiku604 –
A delight to use. Feels like an actual pen in my hand, The body is cool to the touch. Great to use for taking notes or drawing on the screen. The nibs are a bit slick on the bare glass, but if you add a screen protector that has some texture to it, it feels more like writing on paper. The flat side lets me find the dual button easily and the eraser end makes it natural to use.The AAAA last me around 6 7 months. The magnet on the flat side allows the pen to attach to the flat side of the Surface and is strong enough so that I have not lost it nor has it fallen off when I put my Surface into my messenger bag or taking it out.The pen also works with my 15 HP Spectre x360.A must if you want the full Windows experience.
cab123 –
Works great Very easy to set up. I just purchased this for my new Surface Laptop 4 and the set up was a breeze. Literally just held it to the screen and it pairs right up. Writing with it is a bit awkward as the screen isnt a tablet but I imagine Ill get used to it. The pen itself fits great in my hand.Overall would recommend.
Ashveen –
Nice item. Magnetically sticks to the side of the tablet. Works really well.Theres two model of these surface pens. This one works with a replaceable battery. I feel if i noticed earlier I would have gone for the newer model which is rechargeable. The 4xA battery is still unavailable where i live.I will update my review about its utility. Thanks
Leonardo –
This pen works well.Since this is the first time using something like this, I have to get used to controlling my hand on the smooth glass surface, without much friction. So my hand writing looks terrible.I havent tried painting or anything.I like the eraser on the topYou can also press the top to create a chalkboardStill learning how to use it properly from videos people have posted.

Pretty nice little pen. Feels good in your hand only issue for me is if my hands are dry it slides around a little but not to bad. Overall its a nice addition to the Microsoft Surface Go 2. It is intended more for an artist nut if you need to sign something this works really well. Battery life on the pen is really good.

The pen allows me to use the Surface Pro as a live working document and to share this with my students. Being able to show a maths problem and then show all the working in real time is great. I can explain as I go and it saves me having repeated diagrams and pages. It also allows me to erase a step and redo it to explain again if needed. Much more accurate than writing with a mouse or fingertip on the screen.

I recently bought the SP7keyboard bundle. I really liked the setup and was fairly content. I considered the SP7 an actual light laptop and mostly forgot about its tablet mode. Because MS marketing said that the pen was essential, and after seeing a couple of reviews, I decided to get it especially on the price that was being promoted.Well, I could not have agreed more with marketing for a change. This pen will change the way you look at and interact with your device.First, it is rather light but well built. It feels nice and comfortable to hold it. Unlike other digital pens on other devices, the rubberized tip creates a good, natural resistance on the tablets glass and is not loud at all while tapping on the screen. It is as if I was using a sharpie on glass.Mostly, I have been using it to manipulate and click on the screen instead of my fingers. However, I recently started using it to write notes and write on the screen and documents more often. At first, I was simply writing, which feels a bit strange at first but one gets accustomed rather quickly. As I learned more features, I became much more prone to use it pretty much all the time. I am now sketching a lot. The pressure sensitivity and tilt function are amazing and a joy to use. One great feature is that the top button works just like a pencils eraser. It is so well implemented that I have made the motion of dusting off the screen There is also a side button that mimicks a mouse rightclick. Both of these button functions can be customized easily if you prefer.I know that the MSRP can be a bit on the high side, but trust me, the value is definitely there. I can confidently say that the Surface Pen is essential for a complete Surface Pro experience.

The best device for surface pro buyers. Makes signing or in general drawing excellent and easy. Drawing is absolutely amazing quality providing you have the skills. Love the magnetic edge that attaches it to the surface although of falls off or bumped also very easy to get lost. Only fault is these used to come with the pro and now its a seperate add on which kinda sucks but the product itself has great quality

The first one stopped inking within a day, even at 100 battery power. Replacement very easy with Walmart also died within a day. We know its not the computer because it was tested on another surface with same results, and another pen was used on both surfaces which worked perfectly fine. Unsure if Walmart got sold the factory seconds or what, but 02 is indicative of something bad.

Great product. Easy to use. However, it does have a little more weight to it than I expected and it slips in my hand while using it. Will look for some type of silicone or Rubber case to keep it from sliding. Other than that, it is super responsive and easy to use.

Love the surface pen. Works great. Unfortunately, it is also easy to lose. Was able to replace again. Worth the investment to buy something to secure it. I use with surface book 2 laptop. I have both the Apple Pencil and this one. Compatibly I like both. This pen is a little nicer as you dont aways have to charge it up to use it, unlike the Apple Pencil.

The Microsoft Surface Pen works pretty well with the Microsoft Surface Book 2. There are no problems with skipping when you try to write, but nothing appears on the screen. However, sometimes it does not put what youve writtendrawn exactly where you are trying to writedraw it. This happens even right after calibrating it. The eraser feature is nice so there is no tapping the screen for eraser functions to erase, and it works well. However, it does not seem possible to erase only a small portion if what youve writtendrawn is small. Instead, it will erase the entire small thing that youve writtendrawn. Not a big deal, but it does differ from an actual eraser in this sense. It was pretty pricy, but supposedly the additional cost is so you have the ability to writedraw in color. It did not come with additional writing tips as most styluses do, which was a little disappointing for the price. Overall, it is a good product, though.

Have spent 4 hours trying to get the surface pen to write on the screen of my surface pro six. Scoured the internet for information. Went to Microsoft.com nothing. Changed battery. It pairs but will not write on screen. It is brand new out of the box for two days. I give up. This thing sucks.

I have owned both the Microsoft Surface Pen and Apple Pencil, and both are top of the line products. The Surface Pens eraser function is amazing, I feel like I am writing with an actual pencil when I am in the middle of the lecture and taking notes. Along with the eraser function, the clicking options is clutch because I can seemingly, without any hassle, screenshot a page or document and it sends the screenshot straight into One Note and I am able to start taking notes. There are quite a few options that you can set your pen to which makes puts it ahead of the Apple Pencil in terms of functionality and customizing options. In comparison to the Apple Pencil, the Surface Pen does not respond as smoothly as the Apple Pencil, but not enough to make a difference. A big difference between the two would be the eraser function and clicker functions on the Surface Pen. A must if you have a Surface Go like myself
David –
Pros Smooth and responsive writing. The top button also working as an eraser is a fantastic addition. You can customise the top button as well to do different functions I have mine set to open OneNote and also to be able to Screenshot and edit said screenshot which comes in super handy for taking notes quickly. Overall, it has massively improved my note taking for university. Well worth the purchase.Cons I wish that the buttons had more customisability. The options available are great, but I just wish there was more of them.
Stephen –
Pros Works seamlessly with my Surface pro 5, does exactly what I need in inking with extra functionality that helps like being a click in Power Point.Cons I had some definite syncing issues when I first acquired it, requiring multiple pairing and unpairing of the device, to the point I was considering returning it. It does now work fine. Also, it is slightly unintuitive in specific applications at switching between mouse and pen functions.

This is my first time using a stylus so I have nothing to compare it to. That being said, I can tell you that I havent experienced any issues with it so far. I love that it connects so easily to the side of my Surface Go 2 and automatically turns on when I remove it. I bought it primarily for note taking and it is comfortable in my hand for doing that. I imagine it will take more time for me to get more efficient with it and become more familiar with other ways to use it. I did hold a few other brands in the store and to me this one felt easier to hold like a pencil. It is also very convenient to use to click the very small icons at the bottom of my screen instead of using my mouse or finger. Finally it feels well made and I love the way it matches my other Go 2 accessories.

Im an old fashion note taker, but Im up to date on like Tronics This pen give me the best of both worlds. I was thinking of taking notes with my finger but then the thickness of the line is too thick. So this pen is just the right thickness It gives me the best of both worlds when I me im an oldfashioned notetaker, but Im uptodate on like Tronics This pen gives me the best of both worlds. I was told by the Best Buy associate that sold me the HP laptop, that this pen would work with it vs the Bamboo brand. So, it was gifted to me, but I could not get it to work with any of the programs on my HP I found out later that HP makes their own pen. Of course, one can never reach a live person HP or MS to find out what is keeping them from interacting with each other On top of all of this, there is no actual way to identifiably shut down the pen or turn it on….waste of battery power without physical removal of battery VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THIS ITEM, I want to make sure the world knows it is a waste of if trying to interface with other than MS computers. If you cant use an item, it is worthless.
mhm8070 –
The good is that this thing doesnt lose charge. As of this review Im still on original batteries a year later. Integration with Windows computers is pretty good with one exception. The clicker doesnt seem to do anything meaningful. The pen tip and eraser are easy to figure out, but the click button doesnt really seem to be useful. I may be missing something but seems like that should be intuitive.

It was a tough choice between this and the slim, but honestly, Im glad I went with this one. It feels like a no2 pencil in your hand, its easy to use, and its responsive I have carpal tunnel and I have been able to use it with ease without it bothering my wrist. I also love the feature that allows me to flip it around to erase. Game changer For all other reference purposes, I use this on a Surface Pro 2 and mainly use photoshop and illustrator. Im not a pro, definitely more an amateurenthusiast, but this does the job for me and it doesnt totally break the bank

This is my second Surface I have owned, and my first one I had the Surface pen. It worked beautifully. This new one is even better. I love the eraser at the top, just like a pencil. It is very comfortable in my fingers, and I love the magnetic function that secures it to the side of my surface with the case loop. Highly recommend this pen.
Ash187 –
I really love being able to digitally write with this pen I can electronically sign documents and use it with the whiteboard app for online lectures. It feels very natural when writing and you can even set it up so the end of the pen functions as an eraser Ive had this pen for almost a year now and still have half of my battery left after regular use. A must have accessory in my opinion
Heidi –
I needed a new pen when I sadly left my old one somewhere. The new one was easy to pair with my SurfacePro 7 and works as intended. Its always a little painful to have to replace an expensive, but vital accessory, but at least it was on sale I use it primarily for signing documents electronically and highlighting articles.
TECHFX –
This pen is okay. I have used it with digital writing apps and drawing apps such as Photoshop and Sketchbook. It does a good job but it isnt outstanding. I consider it another tool in my toolbox. Like that it is magnetized and sticks to the side of my laptop.
DoctorProcrastination –
Unless you have a surface mouse, you should get a pen to use with it. I use my tablet for a lot of school stuff, and I cannot imagine how hard it would be to use without the pen. I have used this pen for about a year now and it is still working great with the same battery. I did notice that the tip of the pen seems to be exposed a bit. There is a small piece of rubber at the tip that was supported with a bit of plastic right up to the end. Some of that plastic must have cracked off because now the tip is mostly rubber with a tiny bit of plastic remnants. I am pretty gentle with this pen, just for reference. Overall, I would still get it because it is still useful and it does what it needs to do.

This thing is seriously a life saver as a teacher trying to make diagrams for her kids. Everything has been digital for a while at our school so diagrams went from paper to the computer and editing any mistakes or making them more clear often meant redoing the whole thing. Not anymore, I love this thing.I wish it came with replacement tips though, those arent so easy to find.
STUGEMEISTER –
This is the second pen we have purchased. The first pen we had worked great until it stopped responding to our surface tablet. The first one lasted about a year. Hopefully it was defective because at this price point it is not worth it to buy a new pen annually. We will see how this new pen performs. As a side note I find it silly that this pen is sold at dramatically different prices depending on which color you choose. If you dont care about the color do yourself a favor and choose the cheapest option.
Tracey –
Thank you for asking for my feedback. Actually, the feedback is not good. I ordered a case, pen, screen protector and had it here in my office waiting for the tablet to come. Then you cancelled the tablet. I tried to return the items I bought and was told that they were past the date that they could be returned. They are only past because they were awaiting a tablet that you cancelled. I am beyond angry
Jasb –
This pen feels and writes amazingly. the rubberized tip gives it a more penlike writing experience Ive enjoyed quite a lot. the only downside to the pen is that sometimes it isnt as accurate as id like it to be, but this can be solved with a number of different tip options that are available for the pen. its right click functionality works very well, and the pen feels very sturdy and well built as a whole.
CJR200 –
Love the microsoft surface pen however Im honestly still trying to figure out how to use it best. The pen doesnt automatically open the white board when I double click the eraser top, however this could be user error since I am still learning its full capabilities. Overall I love being able to take notes with the pen.
jlawwww –
I found that switching from a keyboard to handwriting notes really helped my performance in school because I like writing things down to learn. However, I never used a pen like this one before because I thought I was only going to want to use a keyboard, but I was wrong and switch between both of them. This is great for people that want the enhancements that technology brings to notes but also want to be able to write their notes down. So helpful

I cant really say as 4 days after my I purchased this Surface Pen, my Microsoft Surface, my case, my pen all were stolen. My home was invaded and many things were stolen among them this pen. So I think it would have been good, but I honestly cant say because I only had it for four days. I am unable to purchase another Microsoft Surface, case and pen because they are so expensive that I cant afford it.
MizuNoHane –
This is the first Surface Pen Ive bought, and I chose it specifically because I wanted an easy way to mark up documents and textbooks while using my new Surface Pro 2017. Unfortunately, the tablet no longer is sold with the pen a huge knock on MSFT to start but the benefits of spending the extra 99 on one are substantial. Its very responsive, extremely easy to use and makes for a helpful standin for a trackpadmouse an issue iPad Pro owners are all too familiar with. Unfortunately, there are some issues with my unit. The button at the top only intermittently works immediately after pairing, it works perfectly, but then a week after Ill try to use it to pull up OneNote or take a screenshot and it does literally nothing. Im not sure why this is the battery is brand new. Its not a deal breaker for me as I rarely use the shortcut, but it is an important feature of the pen that I think should have been ironed out before it went on sale. Either way, Im happy with my purchase and it really completes the Surface Pro set for me.
Morgan –
This pen is easy to use. Feels more like using a real pen than other stylus I have used in the past. Also the end is an eraser. My only complaint is that to my knowledge you have to download seperate extensions if you want to use the pen outside the white board or microsoft office. I will edit my review if I realize I am wrong. It is still new to me.

The Surface Pens have gone through quite a few different versions since the Surface Pro lineup started. This model is my favorite. The magnet that adheres to the left side of the Surface Pro is strong. I also like that the battery is easy to remove and replace, and certainly easier to remove than the previous versions.

I originally bought the Samsung S3 tablet and the pen which came with it was brilliant. Easy to use. Had to return tablet as had WiFi problems.I then purchased the Surface Go, keyboard, mouse and pen.I have only had the product a couple of weeks and so far I have not used the pen as much as I thought I would. If you want it for sketching, drawing etc then great but I am finding it quite unresponsive when using it on the touchscreen to tap on websites.I resort to tapping screen with my finger or I use the mouse which is much easier.I never had this problem with the S3 pen so am unsure if I need to configure sensitivity or its just the way it is.So my advice is if you are using it for art, drawing etc great. If not then perhaps the mouse is a better choice and will save you some moneyI have

After about a month would no longer work. I have gone through two pens with the same problem. I am not sure what the issue is, would go through troubleshooting steps. the buttons would work but inking wouldnt. When it did work it was excellent, but I ended up getting the slim pen and a third party pen to use with my surface.
ToriPlatero –
This pen has everything you need to get started drawing digitally on the surface 7. After trying and alternative stylus and not having good results I bit the bullet and bought this one, and while the cost is something else, the usage makes up for it. Its much nicer than smudging up your screen with your finger and makes whiteboard in zoom a breeze to use. I set it up with my drawing app and it supports the pressure sensitivity and tilt features of the app, which makes it a universal tool. Definately worth the cash, though I hope it lasts me a lifetime from the price.
dalefax –
Although it is quiet expensive if you compare with other surface pen in the market. This is still the best one out there. The main reason is because I really like how it feel when you write on surface screen. Beside price point Microsoft really should use rechargeable battery instead of regular AAAA one.
Tepz –
Lighter, more comfortable to hold and comfortable to hold. Very responsive functions very well with drawing and writing works great when using the Surface Pro 6 in tablet mode. Use mostly for work, writingtranscribing notes and approving and signing forms works great Have used for some light sketching very accurate the pen shines when using shading and coloring, the pressure sensitivities of the pen operates well when using a worthy drawing program Definitely worth the price On a final note, was initially disappointed that the clip was dropped, however, in practicality, I seldom used the clip in previous models my UAG case has a great pen holder built, which works
AmyKH –
I didnt buy this pen for my Surface I bought my Surface to use this pen. Its not an accessory its the key to understanding and making actual use of the Surface devices.I have been constantly impressed with the quality and performance of this Pen. Handwriting is beautifully crisp and its got all the pressure and tilt sensors to make any artist feel right at home. This has completely revolutionized the university notetaking experience.I have not been able to spot any input lag, even while specifically trying to find some. The unique Windows cursor that shows where your pen is held above touching the screen will certainly drag behind, but it seems to have no bearing on the actual functionality as ink will appear in perfect sync with your motions.Just as paper needs a pencil, your Surface needs a Pen.
Free88 –
Got this on sale, and still I think its too expensive. This device should be closer to forty bucks. Wanted to stay matched with my new Surface Pro 6, so went ahead and took the deal price. For business use, I find that this pen is more than up to the task. It is accurate and the lag is practically nonexistent for this use. You flip it around and the eraser end actually works that way. There are two buttons. One near the write end, and the eraser is a button. Dont use them, dont know what they are for. The included tip seems wellsuited for general usage.I have since added a glass screen protector to my SP6, and this pen still works flawlessly for business use.For artists and people looking to draw, make sketches, and things like that, you will likely be disappointed. Just like with the Apple pen, these things are just not there yet. It can work. You can use it to draw within an acceptable margin of aggravation. But, its just not the real thing. Its just not. Although there are many people in denial over this, the Apple Pen is no better. Minute and insignificant differences. Minor pluses and minuses both ways.It does hold to the left side of my SP6 rather well, although, it also can be placed on the right side with less of a magnetic hold. However, I would not trust either side for transportation. You are better off storing the pen another way if you want to keep it.Overall, this is rather pricey, but it is a good product for business use and that is what I wanted it for.

Definitely a great pen to compliment the laptop. i love how its sensitive on the screen and fast. unfortunately, i had to return the black one for a silver one. nothing was wrong, i just was particular about the color i want. since my husband surprised me with a laptop and pen, he chose the wrong color for me. overall, great pen.
JeremyDerek –
Works very well, and have found myself using it more than I originally anticipated. I find it a very convenient way to take notes in OneNote. I do not use it for art at all. I also have not found it any easier to work with when editing photos with Lightroom than just using a mouse as Ive gotten used to. It does work better than your finger in terms of photo editing, in my opinion. One item of confusion, for me, was that using the eraser to open the set program was not working for me. I found that the pen has to be connected via Bluetooth for that function to work. I have also found the pen a little slow to respond with I pull it from the magnetic side of the Surface, if that makes sense.
Pris –
This pen has the perfect weight. It doesnt feel like a toy, and is highly responsive with the Surface Pro 6 screen. The end of the pen works perfectly as an eraser when using OneNote and other applications. My only qualm is that the buttons dont have more customization options.
kaimleung –
The main issue with the Microsoft surface pen system is how they implemented right click. You have to hold down the button and tap the screen, which is weird enough already, but the the switch is also very stiff. I understand why they did that as well since its on the flat side of the pen that snaps to the edge of the screen and you dont want it being clicked accidentally all the time, but the stiffness ends up causing your hand and wrist significant discomfort if you need to use it often i.e. when actually doing professionallevel work in Photoshop. It also doesnt draw quite as nice as Wacoms offerings. Overall its still a great device and works very well, but if you seriously need to use a pen for hours then you may way to reconsider relying on this as your main productivity tool.
Studiotk4 –
I wish it wasnt a separate purchase item from the Surface line. It should be included in the box. Its kind of gimmicky, unless you want to get a device to draw on. That being said, I like it more than the Samsung Spen. The size and heft of it feel good in the hand. the turning it around to use it as an eraser has made me wonder why Samsung hasnt incorporated the same feature into their Spens. Its more comfortable than youd imagine especially on the screens. I only wish you could use it like a wand on applications like web browsers and a few other places. For drawing and note taking, however, its fantastic.
Aaron –
I think this pen is a must have for the surface unless youre always going to use the type cover. Its a great mouse replacement for tablet mode, and its pretty good for creative uses too, with pressure sensitivity and a useful eraser end that some 3rd party programs actually know what to do with. It also feels good to hold, got some weight but isnt heavy, and its comfortable to use for a long time. Its just a bit pricey, but theres really no alternatives that offer the same quality and features, so it is what it is. I still think its a great product and its probably worth the price if you know what youre getting.

So first I bought the wacom ink pro but it glitches so bad that makes it hard to draw cause it clicks random stuff. I decided to but the surface pen slim , at first it works perfectly fine no glitches, no lags but then it run out of charge so I plug it in but its not charging. I tried everything I even thought its full charge so I tried reconnecting the pen but its not working. I ended up getting this instead but ended up just like the wacom its glitching so bad. Im so tired of going back to best buy because its a bit far from where we live. I dont know why its happening cause Ive read all the comments and it works perfectly for some people even if they use a different laptop like hp. Its my first pen stylus that could help me draw easier and now Im super frustrated that I dont feel like drawing digitally anymore.

Its a good product. Ive heard great things about the Microsoft Surface Pen. This one star review isnt on the pen itself, rather its on Walmart itself. I ordered this product, and got an email saying it would take one week to arrive. Fair enough. Two weeks later, it arrives in a pathetic bag, no original packaging to speak of, with the eraser end completely missing. So I waited an extra week for half of what I ordered Okay, makes sense. Thanks.

Beautiful pen. I felt the color matched my computer enough, it is not a direct match but nice and similar theme. It wsa easy to connect to the computer and works well. I wish my new computer was compatible with the first pen developed, but again great sale and I now have a cute color.
Free2bme562020 –
Works great Very responsive on the surface pro. Feels like a regular pen. I like the buttons that you can customize to open certain screens on the surface pro. I only wish the pen had a stronger magnet to attach to the surface pro better. Its fallen off a couple times and not something I want to lose.

Purchased the Surface Pen and a Surface Go 2 for my nieces 10th birthday. She enjoys drawing and the pen works smoothly with her Surface Go. Any tablet pen can be used with the Surface tablet, but the quality and feel of the Surface Pen is amazing If using a Surface Pro or Go, the Surface Pen is a must have accessory. Make sure to purchase extra pen tips
appsrica –
pen tip broke within a few months i bought this early october and the plastic that holds the tip has already broke. I only use this for school and very light usage. Disappointed, my apple products last longer. Only bought Microsoft computer so that it would work better with my school apps.

I have two of these pens. I use them to grade student essays using the Drawboard PDF app, a nice convenience with classes being virtual for now. You dont want to drop them on the tips because it can bend the tip and affect the writing, but the tips are replaceable, so if it does happen, you are not necessarily out the whole pen. These pens also connect magnetically to the Surface so you can keep track of them around the desk. And they feel nice in you hand. Pretty nifty.
Mike –
This pen is expensiveat least for me but it works amazing. Especially for my daughter. The shades and colors are amazing, especially if you are an artist. It works real easy for me with more basic usages It has heldup well the first year

This is great for using the on the Surface. Its a pen there really is not much to say about it. Overall it had little input delay and the software windows uses with pens works fantastic with this pen. The battery life is great. You can replace the tip if it gets worn even though it is high quality it would take a LONG time to get worn. I love the eraser on the back makes it really feel like a real pen. I would recommend this to any student with a touch screen laptop. The only bad thing I can say about this is its 100 a bit pricy but worth it.
BenA –
It works great, I love it. It writes more naturally than any other stylus that Ive ever used, and my handwriting actually looks almost exactly like it does on paper. We have two Surface devices in the house and it can easily be linked to both and used back and forth between the two of them. My only complaint is the price thankfully I bought this on sale, but I feel like it should be more in the 50 75 range than the 100 range. But overall it was still a good get.
sjmeakim –
Works as designed and wife likes it but its more of fun accessory and you could live without it. It pairs very easy and has never lost its connection. She has used it for editing photos in adobe and was pretty impressed. So do you probably need it, no, but its fun and very sturdy and feels good in your hand.
lsslimited –
The pen is great to use and has the magnetic attachment feature, which is useful even on my nonmagnetic older surface, because I can leave it securely on the steel body of my electric piano, or other nearby ferrous item and not have it falling onto the floor and being in danger of being crushed, like the nonMS compatible pens. Dont get me wrong… at the full price new, I wouldnt bother, but I would definitely recommend a good used MS pen at a similar, or slightly higher price. They are well made and hide their age really well. If it works at the point of purchase, it will probably outlast other compatible pens and the device you are using it on.
FraudVictim –
The thing worked great for a few days and then stopped working completely after 20 days. Went through all troubleshooting steps including changing battery and resetting. Return window is 15 days. HOW CONVENIENT FOR THEM Was told by Best Buy it was not returnable after 15 days and to contact the manufacturer. Go through the process on Microsofts website and it says out of warranty. Very dark and violent fantasies going through Best Buy customers imagination right now. Guess thats how these companies want to treat their customers. DO NOT PURCHASE. CROOKS
JimT –
I bought the pen with the Surface. It worked for about a month, then just didnt. I followed all recommended procedures to replace batteries, remove and reset the Bluetooth, and update all drivers. Not one of the recommended solutions solved the problem, and Microsoft had no answers except what I have already tried. Apparently this is a recurring problem for the pen. I would buy a new one, but numerous people online report doing so only for those pens to not work. If the pen is why you want a Surface, look elsewhere.
Carol –
I didnt even have my Surface Pro 7 bundle for a WEEK the first time the pen started fritzing. Updates were available on my Surface, so i did them hoping that would solve the problem. It did NOT. My surface ended up not turning back on AT ALL and I had to get a new one. My original pen worked, but only for once again for about 5 days. I take it to Geek Squad, they run their tests and find out the programming inside the pen was faulty. I got it exchanged. The 2nd pen I got once again went out, in about a week or less. THIS time around they said there was nothing THEY could do except give me their PartStore and have them mail me a THIRD pen. Im still waiting for that pen to be shipped to me. It has been a week. They said 912 days because it was out of stock. Go figure. WORST LUCK EVER with this device. I would give it less than 1 star if it was possible. Hopefully, this THIRD pen works or else Im storming back into Best Buy and demanding my 70 back Shouldnt have to spend this kind of money on something that doesnt work for more than a week…
Cdcruz –
Magnetically attaches to my Surface Pro, very accurate and sensitive when using. I have to use it to sign edocs and it operates so smoothly. Very easy to set up and it has worked perfectly for every situation Ive used it in. This just completes the package if you are looking at buying a Surface Pro
Cristian –
If I could give 0 stars I would. If you are buying from this seller DONT. This is my 3rd attempt at getting this item delivered. The first time it said delivered, when there was not a single item in my mailbox or porch and I was home the entire day and have a ring doorbell camera to capture all this just in time for the holidays, I called and had Walmart refund and reordered again, only bc this is the cheapest price Ive seen for the pen. The second time it showed delivered and this time I got a humidifier in its place needless to say I was irritated. She wanted me to try again and I told her no thanks, clearly this seller and the ups carriers in my area doesnt want the pen to make it to me I then was told I could get a promo code for the inconvenience which is just a few bucks off an order of 45 or more. So not happy about that either, I have to spend a certain amount to get a discount overall terrible experience to try and get my child a pen to go with her Christmas gift picture of what I got in place of the pen that showed delivered
Harli –
I lost my first one and I find the surface pen is a necessary part of my working experience in my surface pro 7. It helps make things more streamlined than just using my fingers on the screen. The magnetic feature that is supposed to stick to the tablet isnt super great, hence needing a second one. I lost the new one in a matter of days but it helped me find where the old one was as it went to the same graveyard So now I have a backup. As an artist, I use this for digital art on Photoshop and I much prefer having an eraser on one end over the Apple version, though the sensitivity isnt quite as good. Overall, if you have a surface pro you can get away without it but I would recommend the pen if you take any notes, draw at all or even have any dexterity issues with your fingershands, it helps fix a lot of problems I have not being able to touch finer details.

I am a fulltime college student and I cant imagine life without the Surface Pen. Instead of carrying around bulky notebooks and papers, I only have to carry my Surface Pro 2017 and the Surface Pen. The Surface Pen has allowed me to go completely paperless.Taking notes with the Surface Pen and OneNote is phenomenal. It feels very similar to using normal paper and pen. I am able to take notes in class and access them at a later time on my phone or at home on my desktop PC.The replaceable battery and tips are a huge advantage. I have owned the pen for over a year and havent needed to replace the battery or tip, even with daily use. However, I know it will be easy to do when that time comes. With other styluses, like the Apple Pencil, battery replacement is not possible. If your battery was to stop holding a charge with the Apple Pencil, you would be forced to just throw it away and buy an entire new unit.If you purchase any Surface device, this is a must have accessory for the price. You will be able to utilize your Surface device to its maximum potential.

I have been using this surface pen with my surface pro 7 for about a month now and I can say with confidence that it is a great investment. Signing things, drawing, taking notes, and more have been made much easier with the use of this pen. I saw some videos on YouTube that said to buy extra nibs because the nib attached breaks quickly, however mine has not broken and is still in perfect condition. However, I would recommend buying this when it is on sale or use a student discount if you can because it is very pricey

Responsive and adds a creative option for my wife who is a graphic designer. the magnetic side allows the pen to be attached to the side of the surface pro which is a good way of keeping track of it when not in use although it is not strong enough to stay on while being transported which in reality I would not recommend anyway. One would think that this should be included in the base package and not as an accessory as it works really well with the surface pro.

I havent utilized this pen to its full capacity. However with online schooling, this has become essential to my everyday homework assignments more so for math. This pen is pretty precise and is similar to my handwriting on paper. I would recommend this pen even if the price may be a bit much.
