Ok I’ve used this for a couple months and here’s my assessment – what is GoPRO on? Many hardware problems, ecosystem of greed, look for better alternatives. Where do I begin? At first the camera worked perfectly fine, I record my runs in a POV style and around about 7km will have me recording 40mins no problems. About 2 months down the line this overheats and it’s unreliable so it’s a mixed bag in how long it actually records for. I have purchased (an extra) 256gb micro SD card and take very good care of my equipment in general, I format the SD card so I know it’s not full. Somehow it magically stops recording whenever it wants so it’s unreliable. I’m not too bothered about the microphone – it’s fine, the picture quality – it’s decent. It’s just so unreliable! Battery life – not great. But to charge multiple batteries you have to buy a charging block. You get 2 batteries included. So I was under the impression this is supposed to be smooth and have in-built stabilisation. I bought (again bought extra) a chest strap to run with this but the video was swaying side to side that much, it didn’t make a difference. So I had to stabilise in post production. But again, the official software to do this costs a yearly subscription (this is madness). There’s an open source alternative which works fine (god bless open source). I also purchased a gimbal and accessories to connect to my chest strap to make the footage watch-able. So let’s reflect, all this (including accessories) has cost me near £1000 and what do I have to show for it? A faulty flagship camera which overheats, is temperamental, is a mixed bag in how long it records for, unreliable 2 months in. I feel ripped off. This isn’t right as a consumer. Surely there’s manufacturers warranty or something to protect consumers. On a final note, I don’t mind paying for something knowing I’m getting quality, but where I draw the line is paying excessive money for something that is broken. 2 people found this helpful
