I have been a Canon guy for 10 years. I have worked on many other cameras RED, Sony a7s ii, Blackmagic 46K etc but I always come back to Canon. My last feature GOD SEND Amazon won 2 film festivals last year with my old 2014 1400 6D 1080p, beating films shot on 30,000 Alexas. I have only used this R6 on two photoshoots but I am blown away with the results and am excited to shoot narrative asap to see what is possible. The R6 focusauto focus has been soft full wide on the 24105 on a few shots here and there but I would say most of those is probably user error since I have never usedrelied on auto anything and am trying to learn to flow with it. I have trust issues I guess. Im still trying to figure out what the best configuration is for me so Im still learning. My one note to Canon is that I wish I could customize of have a favorites screen in the menu with my most used settings. There are so many menus and submenus and I have watched piles of videos on what everything does. I feel like there are so many parts that I might never go back to once they are set. That is incredibly nit picky on my part. Overall, amazing camera and I feel like its a huge bang for not much buck. The 4K is crispy and beautiful. The Slow Mo 120 fps at 1080 is amazing. I plan to get the C70 next.Thank you BH for being the ONLY folks who has this R6 in stock when I was ready to buy. It got to my place in AZ less than 48 hours from time of purchase. Ill be back to buy more soon

I have been using Sony mirrorless for some time but wanted better response out of my Canon EF 300mm f2.8. The adapter didnt deliver decent autofocus. I tried the EOS R but really needed IBIS so I sold it.The EOS R6 is everything I was hoping for Fast shutter speed, amazing Servo focus and the Eye Focus is simply fantastic. The low light response and quality are also great. I am one happy camper

So far so good I LOVE the upgraded viewing screen inside the camera itself. There is a learning curve when it comes to focusing though, I havent had it that long. One thing also, if you are pairing it with your previous fill frame lenses, you will need an adapter. This is going to put your lens in a further out position than normal, so you will most likely have a tendency to switch the lens into manual mode because the placement of that switch isnt close to the camera body anymore. I am currently looking to purchase RF lenses because this issue is actually really annoying. Still worthy of a 5 star rating though.

I recently decided to upgrade from Canon 6DMarkII to Canon EoS R6. This camera is excellent when it comes to auto focusing. There was hardly any learning curve from my previous camera. It is a bit light weight with the L lens as oppose to my previous camera. The pictures are spot on and love how silent and quick it is. I am waiting for the adapter to use my EF lenses with this bad boy. Overall super happy

Ive owned Canon DSLRs for 12 years and have been waiting for a decent mirrorless to switch for. R6 overall exided my expectations, I really like the AF, it just made shoting very easy process that allows me to concentrate more on a scene. Im using it only for stills and before buying it considered Sony and Nikon since I anyway had to switch the system not a fan of connectors. For and old Canon guy it is simply the silver bullet. I dont mind sensor size, its plenty for my tasks, but Im impressed with its quality and speed. The only thing that I miss is additional display on top, but actually its absence thought me how to very efficiently use main display and now Im 5050 between it and a viewfinder.

Awesome Upgrade. I mainly shoot action and sports photography and the inclusion of eye AF has been amazing, took it out to the river to shoot wake surfing and the AF snapped quickly to the eye or head if eye was not in frame of the subject. Upgraded from 7DMII and the new processor makes for a lot clearer adjustments in post. Very good feel in the hands, the buttons are where your hand naturally falls on the camera. 20fps shooting is ridiculously fast and realistically the 12fps mechanical is perfect, but its nice to have that extra boost if you wantneed it. Overall im loving it so far

This camera feels like the pinnacle of Canon cameras. Ive been shooting with Canon with some sony and Nikon pitstops here and there since 2011 with my t2i. Upgraded through the years to the 5d4 and EOSr. I wished Canon could take the best of those cameras and combined them, and they finally did it with the R6.Huge update to ergonomics from the EOSR and RP, much more similar to the 5d controls. And of course you get canons INCREDIBLE mirrorless focusing system. The Human and animal EYEAF is literally the biggest improvement to my photography workflow since upgrading to full frame. The sensor is fantastic, image quality is wonderful. I literally cant find a bad thing to say about this camera. So happy with the purchase

Never thought that I would consider another camera body that was not EOS1 line but happy that I purchased this jewel. The technology leap from an EOS 1DMK IV to this camera is night and day difference. With that being said the same camera layout and setup does seem familiar. It is hard to give an accurate review due to the backlog of lens and accessories I have not yet received. I have adapted several FD lens for video and pictures and very much enjoy getting to use some vintage fd lenses. I mounted a fd 800 5.6L to shoot some video and test IBIS, all I can say is it certainly helps with this lens. The amount of customizable settings in the camera are a bit over whelming, I guess that is to be expected when being accustomed to ten year old technology in the 1DMK4. I am very happy with the camera and purchase, cant wait till a couple RF lens show up or a converter for the EF glass to get a real assessment of the cameras functioning.BH experience top notch as usual.

I purchased the R6 mid January and what a delight it has been to use it. First the whole setup and ergonomics of it are all laid out to be fluid, from how it holds in the hands all the way through the menu system, its all been thoroughly thought out. With these two new mirror less cameras the R6 and R5 you can tell Canon is now engaged and on board creating world class leading mirrorless Cameras, the autofocus is spot on and its tracking capabilities leaves your jaw on the ground. Image quality is superb, with excellent white balance and color rendition, high ISO performance is world class, you can really push this up into 12ks and easily have very usable images with little noise. The last thing Ill say, the camera is just a pure joy to work with, you can tell Canon listened to its customers and gave them what they were looking for. This Camera comes produced by the worlds number one camera maker Canon, its manufactured in Japan, by leading craftsmen and craft woman and you can tell their love in their craft went into manufacturing this amazing camera. Thank you Canon

Fast shoot, fast AF, eye AF is awesome technology thanks to sony for pushing the industry toward this.I sold a sony A73 and went back to all Canon as I found the sony harder to use. Great photos, but wasnt as easy to quickly change settings as the canon. And I gave it a real good, 1 year try.Sample photos were with sigma 135 f1.8 ART and canon RF 50 F1.8.The canon is easy to use, laid out well, and great touch screen implementation as many cameras before it by Canon.Lens selection is good and will have a full complement I assume in the next few years.HOWEVER… there shouldnt be much difference when using adapted EF lenses, and theres not glass in the adaptor, all it does it hold the EF lenses the right distance away from the sensor.Image quality is also fantastic. What you think some other brand has a slightly better sensor Even if that were true, that means this is the 2nd best sensor out there in a camera thats likely faster and way easier to use. No brainer for me.

Let me start by saying that I came from a 1Dx MkII. This body is a game changer. If you are on the fence about buying a high end Canon body, order this one yesterday. You can read about many of its features here httpsglennwoodell.zenfolio.comblog20211thoughtsonthemirrorlessrevolutionAfter getting this body, I realized I no longer picked up my 1Dx MkII or my 7D MkII anymore. The AF is simply amazing. I am shooting less but bringing home more because the AF rarely misses, especially moving subjects. And the image quality is better than anything Ive owned before.
RGat –
Coming from an EOS R, I was a little worried about the 10mp tradeoff by switching to this body. The EOS R6 makes up for it with undoubtedly more consistent autofocus, memory card melting speed, and predictable ergonomics. Dual Pixel AF 2 has made significant improvements in how sticky and astute the tracking is. The sensor is impressively clean and less noisy at higher ISO in both video and in photos. There have been some overheating issues when recording video in 4k 10bit, but a firmware update has been issued to provide a good work around. 10bit 1080p is a welcome offering and is an improvement over the already great EOS R 8bit 1080p.Im glad I made the jump, but there are some downsides. First, most computers dont know what to do with the 10bit 4k 422 so expect to use proxies side note the file sizes monstrous. Second, for photography the EOSR is 90 the same camera for 70 of the price. Lastly, in backlit situations, while using eyeaf in video the camera has a tendency to hunt for focus hoping they fix this in the next firmware update. I dont know where to fit this one, but if you like the Canon Color Science it seems like they have a different formula for this camera body. Its noticeable warmer than the EOS R, and should be kept in mind by those will be trying to match images from different Canon bodies. The colors are very pleasing and preferred, but they are different.Overall this is an excellent camera that feels like it shouldve been their first offering maybe thats just conditioning and expectations. As a photographer this is the camera to get if youve been waiting to jump on the RF lens system. Its fast, its consistent, and it has all the bells and whistles for most professionals. If youre a videographer that shoots primarily long format 4k, than this isnt the one for you. Anything more than 2530min bursts will have you pulling your hair out, no matter how beautiful the image maybe.

I love this camera. Very reliable. Very versatile. Amazing technology. The IBIS, especially coupled with an RF lens with its own IS, is almost cheating. The quality of relatively high ISO photos continues to amaze. And the f4 lens is better than I expected. I use it for landscapes, waterfalls, etc. and it excels. I bought the lens with the camera only because the R6 bodies werent available separately. But this really is a fine lens

My focus pardon the pun is trying to create artistically appealing to me photographs, not technical specifications. Compared to my Nikon D7000, my Canon R6 is far better at helping me do that, with far more ease and fun. The R6 photos are cleaner and sharper, with even more pleasing to me colors and nuances of color. Ive been using the RF 35mm f1.8 lens made in Taiwan and the RF 85mm f1.8 lens made in Malaysia for a couple of weeks, and find them both to be excellent especially the bokeh and nearmacro capability of the 85mm lens the only caveats being that the 85mm lens seems to me to be a little noisy as is the R6 and a little slow to focus. I do very little postprocessing, but appreciate Canons free Digital Photo Professional software for viewing and editing RAW files its system requirements are minimal. The R6 is part of a complete package. Full disclosure I have very little experience in photography.

Im just a regular photography enthusiast and this is the first camera Ive ever bought on my own. Ive always just used my phone or my parents point and shoot to take photos. Everyone told me I have a keen eye and should get a proper cameraFinally went for this as this is one of the latest in the market and Im hoping it doesnt get outdated for a few years atleast PIve had this camera for a week or so and have taken some good shots with it and received good appreciation, so Id say this was well worth the investment. It was super easy to setup after watching some Youtube videos. The AF and MF is so brilliant that I hardly have any out of focus shots. All I need to worry about is the composition and the settings, and the camera figures a lot of the salient stuff on its own. Ive added a few images I took. And these are by someone whos just used their camera for a week.Love this camera, its inspired me get out and take photosPS I am not a professional photographer so have limited my review to the experience.

I upgraded from cropped sensor Nikon DSLRD7500 to this camera. I think I made a huge leap. First, the body feels great in my hand. its weathersealed too. I dont mind at all having a 20MP sensor. it has a great high ISO performance and dynamic range. The Image Quality looks great to me. The autofocus is just awesome. Canons Dual Pixel AF II is the Best. once you halfpress the shutter button, it tracks moving subjects perfectly. The face and eye detection are sticky and work great from far away, even in low light. The camera has two UHSII card slots. if you use that card, youll get 240 RAW images buffer in case you need it. I love the viewfinder quality. finally, I have the exposure preview and I can disable the blackout, that I didnt have on DSLR. 4K video is gorgeous and the camera supports internal 422 10bit with LOG. I dont use it at the moment, because my computer cant handle it , but its great to have it for future plans. and the lovely variangle Touch screen. I can shoot vertically from a low angle easily, finally. Nikon seems doesnt care about it, which is annoying. The Menu is easy to navigate. what I miss from my ex DSLR is battery life, but its okay. I purchased the 2nd LPe6NH battery and Im planning to get the battery grip. I definitely recommend this camera. its not cheap, but worth it.

A new era in event action photography. The number of keeper shots you can capture with this new AF system is hard to believe. Ive owned or shot with every Canon dSLR since 2005 and without hesitation Ill report the R6 is a real leap in performance especially for such a small camera. The size, weight ergonomics are all excellent and the customization is vast it took me a few weeks to get the custom buttonsdials set to deliver the quickest shooting experience but tweeting with it so worth it I photograph over 100 weddings a year and with the R6 I never want to stop. Its that good.

Is it perfect. No. The inability to save custom video settings on the dial is annoying and seems like an option a firmware update can easily provide given that the R5 does it…so why Canon left seriously useful feature out of the R6 feels intentional. Aside from lacking that feature, this is the best allaround videophoto shooter available for the price given youre a committed Canon shooter. I am moving towards RF glass and using an adapter for my EF lenses and there arent any issues to speak of in doing so. A great camera, you wont be disappointed…unless you want to save a custom camera preset.

Love this camera I loved it so much I bought two of them I had been shooting with the Canon 1DX before. That is also an awesome camera but its a beast. Its heavy and loud. The R6 is soooo much better in low light its insane. I rarely see noise even when Im shooting at 10,000 ISO. You wont regret this purchase.
Jeffrey –
For the average user me this is more than enough camera to suit my needs. Ive had excellent shots and videos with all of the features that this camera has to offer. I took a deep dive into the advanced manual and watched some YouTube videos to get set up and photographing ideas to put it all together. In my opinion for normal users the 20 megapixel sensor is more than enough on a full frame sensor and for sure saves you 1400 over the 45 megapixel sensor on the R5. And again, for the average user, having 1080P and 4K video is more than enough as most people dont even use 8K and have the capability in order to process that amount of data.
Ramon –
This is an entirely new system for me. I bought it because of the lighter weight. Lots of buttons, dials, and menus to learn how to use. Once I figure all those out I think it will move up to 5 stars. I am very pleased with the bird shots I have managed to capture and the few macros I have taken. Currently using only RF lenses as there is no EF adapter available. This does not matter to me as I have no other Canon lenses but it may matter to some as no date as yet when to expect the adapter.
NAIRBOY –
Ive barely scratched the surface, but this camera blows my old T3i out of the water to infinity and beyond….Never overheated on me except once when I tried to run the Eos Utility for remote sorting from my laptop. Crazy thing is, the same task initiated from the Canon CameraConnect App caused no such issues.I was recording 4K 24FPS, so havent had a chance to verify the overheating claims on faster FPS.I think the Sunny still has an upper hand on heatless 4K recording, but the color science of Canon is hard to beat.If you can afford the extra 99 spent on RF adapters, the R6 is a great hybrid camera that can work with all your older lenses. My 1855 IS and 50MM just got a new lease of life and work great on the R6.No regrets yet.

While I owned the original R for about a year, Ive never really liked using Canon cameras because I always felt like I was giving up too much relative to what the competition was offering for it to be worth it. No longer. The R5 and R6 are the closest thing weve seen to the perfect hybrid camera from any camera manufacturer yet. The R6 does everything everyone, until recently, wanted a camera to do. Here are a few marquee features of the R6 Big upgrade from the 5DIV sensor that was in the 5DIV and original R. It has fewer megapixels but the technology is so much more advanced that the photos look as sharp or sharper, just with FAR superior dynamic range. Its very likely that the R6 uses the same sensor as Canons flagship, the 1DX III.Canon did an amazing job with IBIS on their first try. It is legitimately one of the finest offerings on the market right now, one of the best Ive used. Its honestly as good as PanasonicOlympus micro 43rds IBIS, which is amazing considering how much larger the sensor is in the R6.4K 243060fps video using essentially the full width of the sensor. Not only that, but all 4K modes even 60 are downsampled from 5.1k, which produces incredibly sharp footage.Dual UHSII SD card slotsBoth the mechanical and electronic shutters are incredibly fast a massive upgrade from the original R.The autofocus is nothing short of amazing. 100 coverage over the entire sensor. The eyetracking autofocus is better than it has ever been, and it now works on animals of all kinds not just cats and dogs. It even works on insects. Whats more It all works in video mode as well. Sony cameras, which have always been my jam, CANNOT do animal eye AF in video not even the new A7SIII.Does this mean that the R6 is THE perfect camera, though Well, no, there are a few shortcomings although Im happy to say that MOST of them can be fixed with future firmware updatesYep, 4k overheats. These limits are almost certainly artificial in nature and its likely that Canon will extend them with firmware updates. Thermal imaging shows that even when the camera says its overheating, no part of the camera even the sensor is over 4045 degrees celcius. Canon may very well have been on a time crunch in getting these cameras out and decided to be incredibly conservative with their overheat algorithm on initial release. The R5 has already had a firmware update that has helped a bit in this regard, and I expect to see more in the future.Shooting 4K actually DOES have a slight crop. It looks like about 10 in all 4K shooting modes.Low light performance is pretty goodbetter than the R5but still behind where Sony was even with the basic A7III years ago. The R6s sensor is NOT backside illuminated like Sonys sensors are these days. From what Ive seen of the A7SIII, neither the R6 or R5 are going to be able to compare at all… The SIII is like some weird IR night vision device that can see in the dark… in full color. There are no partial auto modes IE, aperture or shutter priorty when shooting video. Its either full auto or full manual. You cannot set video presets to C1,2,3. The R5 can do this but for some reason the R6 cannot. The joystick doesnt allow you to go to the nextprevious photo when in playback mode. The R6 does not allow you to record video to both cards at once, nor can it write proxy footage to one card and the full thing to the other.Setting white balance is still the same process as other EOSseries cameras, where you have to take a picture, go into the menus to ingest the photo, then set the WB to custom. Canons lowerend PowerShot cameras do it like every other manufacturer select custom WB, point a circle at your grey card, and hit set but for some reason not the EOS series.Overall, I think Canon knocked it out of the park with these cameras. The R6 may be the little brother, but it has several unique advantages over the R5 that you should consider carefully. It has better low light performance, it has traditional dials that I think are actually faster than the R5 and original Rs implementation, the R6 has oversampled 4K60 whereas the R5 only has pixel binned 4K60, it uses the same storage media between two slots, it can do 1080p 120fps the R5 can only do 60fps for some reason, although it can do 4K120…, etc.

Pros If you are a Canon user it doesnt take much adapting. It doesnt have a flash so if you are used to photographing in flash its going to take some getting used to or you can attach an external flash… which Im yet to try. So far without much effort my photos have been an improvement from my 7D 100D and latest iPhone.Cons I do miss the flash but its early days. Timer only takes 1 shot ….on the cheaper canons you can change the timer to take multiple shots so you can choose your best one. There is no availability of the Ef lens converter so if you want to use it now you need to factor in the cost of a new Rf lens…. I went for the 24 to 240 which as an amateur does most things. But expensive … I had only budgeted for the 100 lens converter It is quite fussy and doesnt always let you take the shot. I think its quite expensive for a 20 mp camera.
Jeffrey –
This camera sits in the sweet spot of what you would spend on the various iterations of the 5D back in the day, only in the mirrorless realm. The body is smaller than those, but more capable. Everything that has evolved in the last decade or so about the Canon line is here, with incredible dynamic range, insanely good autofocus, and video capability that is quite good. Theyve abandoned the small LCD on top since you can see the settings onscreen, though I wish the number were bigger. Battery life is more than adequate for stills, but you may want a second if you shoot a lot of video.Ive not had any overheating issues doing a lot of short bursts of 4K at 24fps, but its not likely representative of what a video person may expect from the camera. Video quality seemed good enough for vacation video.
Michael –
This camera is a definite upgrade from the Eos R. The autofocus and white balance are exceptional. You will not miss the 10MPs that you lost from the R. Getting rid of the touch bar and incorporating the joystick was the best design upgrade that Canon could do. A little on the expensive side but a great still shooters camera. Simple to use and if you are a Canon user the menus make sense.
Hgrbr –
Great camera but have not seen many updates to this expensive camera. Why have a limit on recording Why not have more 4K options that dont overheat. The c settings need fixed for video. Make this a great hybrid with an update. Currently it is less of a camera then the Sony a7s3 and almost the same price point. Add the lens cost and it is right there at cost with less features.
William –
I have used quite a few different camera systems over the years, and sometimes its hard to see why you should upgrade.I have used Canon for many years, though I am familiar with and have shot with Nikon and Sony systems. I really prefer the Canon menu systems. This new R6 doesnt disappoint. Everything is where you expect it to be if you are used to the way Canon menus are set up. That made it easy for me to get out and start shooting right away. The real impact this camera made on me was the quality and clarity of the images. They are extremely crisp and detailed. I also shot with the auto ISO setting on to see how the camera did in low light. And the images at 25600 ISO our really quite outstandingThe second feature I was surprised by is the minimum focal distance. I combined this R6 with the Canon RF 24 70mm 2.8f lens. With this combo, I can literally set the edge of the lens on something and get focus. The shallow depth of field and macro capabilities puts a huge smile on my face.I attached a low light image and an image where I set the edge of the lens on the edge of my keyboard at my desk. Im really impressed. Definitely a great buy and worth the investment.

Photography is my hobby, I preorder the Canon R6 and just shipped to me couple days ago. My primary reason to pick the canon R6 is the new eye auto focus and the 20fps, because I like to shoot wild life and outdoor activities. My have been using the 7DmarkII over the year, I love this camera, but its an APSC sensor. R6 is a full frame and I can just use my existed EF lenses with the EFRF adaptor. My first impression of this camera is the ergonomic grip. It provides you a Canon feels, but much lighter than the 7D mark ii. When point it to a bird or animal, it locks up in to the animal eye, and that is a sure focus. Lots of reviews talk about the overheat issue on this camera, but I dont shoot much of video, so I am not worry about it. Canon will come up with latter firmware to fix it just like the issue on the EOSR. I plan to make some videos with the Canon R6 in the future, and hope by then Canon will find solution to the heat issue. At the main time I am excited to put it to more test in wild live animal shooting.Button line coming from 7Dmark 2, this camera is also 20mgpixels just like 7D mark ii, but it is far superior in every aspects. When you put an EFS on this camera it automatic crops the lens into 1.6 reduction so the 20mg to 10mg, but thats OK. The beauty about it is that I can use all my existed EF lenses in this camera with no issue.

I film and photograph weddings as well as adventures, and this camera really delivers when it comes to any occasion. The sensor for astro is amazing, the low light capabilities are phenomenal, and the lightweight of the camera body is perfect for backpacking and light travel. I love this camera.I was deciding between this and the Nikon z6, but Ive always been a canon die hard. Im glad I stuck with canon, however the z6 seems to deliver similar results for almost a grand less. If youre deciding between the two, either one seems a great option. My friend has the z6, and I tried it out but it doesnt feel as durable or rugged as the canon does. Overall, they both have fairly similar image quality, so its really just how you use it.The battery for this camera, as well as most mirrorless cameras, doesnt last a whole long while. I have to replace my battery more frequently than with a DSLR, but to me its a sacrifice worth making with this mirrorless system. The digital eyeviewfinder is a great touch as well, I love seeing how the photo will look before I capture it as compared to the older DSLRs with the standard viewfinders.

I use this camera professionally for over 6 months for photo and video work. It blows me away and has never let me down. In my opinion, unless you absolutely need a higher megapixel camera, this camera is a far better value than the R5. The RF mount and lenses are a wonderful upgrade but the ability to use all my old EF glass without any compromises allows me to invest in new RF glass at my own pace. I have used Canon equipment for almost a decade and I havent always been pleased with them but this camera has really restored my faith in Canons commitment to advancing camera technology and quality.

After several months using the Camera in different situations, I think it is a Camera with incredible potential even with 20MB on the sensor, but without a doubt something that I have found unfortunate is the limitations to change some functions or buttons on the camera, for example the rate button, which could be customized or could be used to create voice notes.Additionally, I believe that the video functions are unfairly limited, for example, the limitation of being able to record video internally not only in the two memories but not being able to record internally and also externally as the R5 does, it does not seem fair considering the price of this camera.Regarding the body of the camera, the way to switch between video to photo does not seem appropriate, where in the video as a wheel does not let you have your options saved in sections C1, C2 and C3 something that could be done even with cameras like the 6D Mark II, so I think this should change internally with a software update. Now aspects to highlight is that the AF is undoubtedly the best in the market, both in video and photography, the possibility of having SERVO and having it automated with eye detection depending on the situation in the same configuration, allows you to have a point Focus in the middle that you can use to later compose without having to use the joystick or the touch screen, that is, you focus with the centre of the camera, it recognizes the body of interest you compose by holding the shutter button and voila, this is called speed, but if you can detect eyes at the same time this is a gamechanger. If you are looking for a camera for documentation, weddings and even reporting, this is your camera. If you do video and stock photography this camera can cover quite a few jobs and even help you get to the next level.I recommend it for other aspects but if I wanted to mention these.

Well well well, the Canon R6 has actually been acquired with that stock scare many individuals were experiencing. After about 4 months of use, this camera has been absolutely amazing. The Canon menu as usual is very easy to navigate through. The overheating issue has not been apparent with my use. This camera body certainly is pricey but if you are in the market for an upgrade, this camera is highly effective in both stills and shooting video. The native RF lenses are very expensive but you can use the ef to rf adapter created by Canon to use EF lenses that are much more costfriendly.

I had the canon 6D mark ll. With many EF L glass. So I bought the canon R6 with the RF 24105mm F4L and the EF to R adapter. This camera Makes the 6D mark ll tracking ancient. The eye detection for people and animals is crazy good accurate and fast. Glad I made the move to mirrorless. Although the mirror dont have anything to do with it. Its the advanced technology in the R6R5. Ill never look back except to use my EF and EFS lens with the adapter. As far as the RF 24105mm F4 its better than the EF 24105mm F4L mark ll in every way as far as sharpness and the control ring is a bonus in technology.

Pros 1. Inbody image stabilisation.2. Fast shutter speed. 12fps mechanical shutter, 20fps electronic shutter silent.3. Amimal, people and eyedetection AF.4. Fast AF.5. Two card slots.Cons I believe this camera should come as standard with a canon lens adapter so you can use your EF lenses and Prime Lenses.

I was debating between the Nikon Z6 II and Cannon R6. Did a lot of research and decided on the Cannon R6 for several reasons. Built in stability. Auto Focus capability. FPS capability. I also purchased a 2470 F2.8 and 24240 F46.3 with it. Excellent in low light with F2.8. Excellent in depth of feel. Excellent in capturing actions with kids playing sports. The 20 FPS in electronic mode is amazing. Overall, this camera has a ton of capability for me.

I upgraded my personal kit with this camera after having happily used the Canon 6D for about 7 years. It was definitely time to upgrade. I wanted a camera that had a quick autofocus, two SD card slots and compatibility with my previous lenses. When the R launched, I thought about jumping onboard, but the lack of dual SD card slots was a killer. Ive shot a wedding and the SD card failed in the middle of peoples speeches. It is not an experience Im willing to live through again for myself or my clients.I was very interested with the announcement of the R5 and R6. Both of them started to check every single one of my boxes. Incredible autofocus, and most importantly two SD card slots. They also ditched the stupid bar thing from the R and gave us a real joystick. In fact, the back of the R6 reminds me heavily of the 5D MKIV.Choosing between the R5 and R6 was difficult, and mainly came down to cost. I used the extra 1000 I saved on a Sigma 35 prime art lens, and thought the tradeoff was worth it. The extra megapixels werent a huge draw, but the fact that I lost out on access to the new memory cards was a bit of a bummer. 4K 120FPS on the R5 would also have been nice, but other than that, the R6 has just as much capability for my needs.I did think about knocking a star off for battery life, which is quite noticeably poorer than the nonmirrorless cameras, but thats really just a function of the technology more than the camera itself. Just be warned if youre switching over from a DSLR, its not like the good old days where one battery was definitely good enough and the second one was just insurance. Im not comfortable unless I have a minimum of three fully charged LPE6 batteries with me for a half day. I am very glad that my old batteries work with this camera, which is a major plus, and stopped me from having to spend another couple hundred dollars on batteries.Overall, its a great camera, and you cant go wrong if youre a Canon shooter. It feels great to use, and is a welcome addition in my bag.

I received the R6 camera as promised on time from B and H and unpacked it, charged the battery and tried it out with all my RF lenses. It worked flawlessly. Had to get use to the placement of the buttons and some new menus, but not difficult. I tried it with my RF 600mm f11 IS lens, which seems to have some focusing problems with this camera. You need good light and and good contrast for this lens to focus quickly. Using it handheld, I got some pretty sharp pictures of the Moon and some small birds. One problem is the small bird images captured on the 20 Megapixel sensor seem to loose sharpness in post editing when cropping in to enlarge the bird images. The moon photos came out extremely sharp. I was very pleased with the results. I have not tried any video yet. No problem with battery life or any overheating. I need to do more testing in order to give the camera a full evaluation. But so far I am happy with my purchase. BK

Overall an amazing Photography camera, It has a lot of limited potential on the video side hopefully Canon fixes this with firmware updates i found just shooting 1080p CLog Neutral BT2020 works the best then upscale to 4K to avoid the overheating issues also changing your AWB to AWBW gets a crisp look. Some R6s are Lemons might want to check that out as well. overall very happy with my camera Best Buy has great customer service much appreciated

The R6 is the fastest camera Ive ever used. The 12contact interface has opened up a huge range of incamera processing options and tappedinto some serious horsepower. The RF 20105 L kit produces a camera that is unbelievably fast. Low light conditions become beautiful scenes with this camera and lens combination. The autofocus has become so fast that it seems the sensors know what you would like to frame. Ive now used the eye and face detection AF photos only and am amazed at the intelligence of this camera. Its a good thing that Canon did not rush this camera to market. Clearly, the R6 is miles above any Sony Ive tried. While I tend to favor Canon glass, Ive used many other lenses and can say with confidence that the RF lens series perform very well and seem to be married to the camera body. It truly feels like you are holding one device in your hand rather than just a camera body and a lens. The integration of the RF glass to the R6 body is seamless and my nonIS EF 50mm f1.2L has become a stable and dependable lens now with the IBS in body stabilization. I cant say enough about the quality and abilities of the new sensors. This is illustrated by the sharpness Im getting with only 20 Megapixels. Unless you plan on making roadside billboards, you dont need more than 20 Megapixels. While I havent yet used the incamera processing, Im impressed by the level of control Canon has given us with this camera with a big brain.

I was impressed with the Canon EOS R which got me into the R system, but I feel like the R5R6 cameras really deliver.I am a pro photgraphervideographer and am pretty much spit 5050 photo and video. I picked up the R6 because I was waiting on the R5 and saw it was available. the kit was only 200 more so I bought the lens with the intention of selling it with my EOS R but have enjoyed using it because of its sizeweightfilter size. the lens is much smaller than the L version 24105 and is a great starter lens on any of the R bodies. As far as the the R6, its autofocus is so incredible. Its such an improvement over the R and I can fully rely on it for portraits. The 20mp sensor is very beautiful and Ive found the low light capability is really good, both with the improvements of ISO noise and the IBIS. I havent noticed the wobble some have mentioned but the widest I shoot is 24mm.As far as video, I think the quality is exceptional. I was concerned about the IPB but the truth is, I havent noticed a quality loss and Ive welcomed the size of the files. If youre interested in the video quality, I have quite a few samples on my YouTube channel httpswww.youtube.comwatchvPOeu9yCbIot8sOverall, theres not much I dont like about this camera. I have noticed when you plug in an HDMI cable, the screen shuts off, which makes the touch screen unavailable which can be annoying. Also, I would welcome AllI for the video, even though Ive really enjoyed the IPB files. All in all, theres really just a few minor things that arent so great and really its just personal preference. Ive found this camera actually grants me so much creative freedom Ive found myself loving creating more lately I would highly suggest the R6

I have not used the camera yet for video, so will confine my comments to taking stills. I also have the R5 that I have used for 6 months. Obviously there is a difference in resolution, but on my monitor I do not see it, even when cropped significantly. With printing, probably would make a difference. Autofocus works well with both RF and EF lens up to 600 mm 1.4 extender. Maybe even a little faster than the R5 Tracking and eye detection are truly remarkable. Totally changes how I compose in the field. I have taken wildlife primarily birds from the minimum focus distance of 15 out to 150 feet. Amazing speed and accuracy. Not quite as customizable as R5, but still great. Although I purchased this primarily as a back up camera for long international trips, I find my self using it as a first choice camera at times. Certainly files are easier to work with.
Michael –
When you get comfortable with certain programs for viewing and editing, you just do not want to switch. Still use Photoshop 6 and view my photos on ACDSEE just because easy to use. Got the R6 and love the camera, focus is amazing, but the files are CR3. Not a lot of programs open these files. So now have to upgrade all my editing stuff. If any issue camera wise, was just so use to the bigger bodies with Canon and this is like holding a Sony.

This is my first mirrorless camera and I cant imagine ever using my DSLR again. The AF was fast and spot on. I shot with the RF 24105 f4L lens and the RF 600mm f11 lens on my trip to Yellowstone and The Grand Tetons and I was amazed at the quality SOOC. The IBIS coupled with the IS lenses allowed me to shoot everything handheld. Ive had issues in the past with camera shake but not any more. Dont let the 20mp deter you, it concerned me initially, but after shooting with this camera solely for the last 12 days Im convinced that this camera has everything I have ever needed or wanted. Im also very pleased with the dynamic range.

I love everything about this camera. The feel, the ease of use, the menu, the clear natural color photos. Very intuitive. Amazing in low light as well. The kit lens is great. The battery life is wonderful and it charges quickly. Easy to transfer photos to my phone. Two USB card slots. Great video with image stabilization. Just over the moon with this camera. Looking forward to all the compatible lenses coming out this year but I really get a lot out of the kit lens at the moment. Just thrilled. I highly recommend.

I have been contemplating changing from my Canon 5d Mark ii to a mirrorless full frame camera. But the first few canon models didnt review so well and being a long time canon user I didnt want to switch brands. In July my years of standing holding a heavy camera ended up with me having spinal fusion surgery so switching cameras became even more important. When the R6 was announced, I read so many great things about it in the prerelease reviews and I was so ready to put down my wonderful but oh so heavy 5d that I decided to take the plunge.I was warned that it would be a big learning curve, there were lots of new buttons, the focusing was more complicated etc etc. When I got the camera, I was almost afraid to start using it sure that it would frustrate me. I had a pretty big photo shoot scheduled for the next week and I wanted to be able to shoot with the R6. I spent a few days learning the new buttons, and setting it up.When I went to the shoot I was all set with the R6 but had my 5D with me just in case. I had nothing to worry about, the R6 worked beautifully, I had no problems whatsoever and the best part is the photos are amazing. The clarity, the sharpness, the bokeh is more than I would have hoped for and the light weight makes the shoot a heck of a lot easierI am so glad I listened to my heart and my aching back and made the switch.

If I had to sum up this camera in one sentence, it would be I love this camera Granted there are some issues with the camera that Canon needs to address, but if we discount the issues for a second this camera provides a wealth of features for a much more affordable price. Before you go further into the review, I myself am videocentric, so this will be a videocentric review of the R6. As the title of this review states, this is a goldilocks camera. It is not as expensive as the R5, but provides much more capabilities than many of Canons cheaper alternatives in a format similar to that of the Rseries cameras. Below I have provided a list of pros and cons to the camera based on my experience with the camera.Pros4K Full Frame Up to 60 fps There is a negligible 1.07x crop in 4k1080p at up to 120fps With 24fps of course4K uses 5.1K oversampling for a richer imageCanon Log is available 12 stops dynamic rangeInBody Image Stabilization 5 to 8 stops depending on the lensH.265 10 bit 422 video when using CLOG or HDR PQ mode Very difficult to edit without proxiesDual Pixel AF II tracks subjects very quickly and smoothly. Eye detection works for both humans and animals, and head detection works even if the subjects face is not visible.Very familiar and comfortable Canon ergonomics. If you come from another Canon hybrid camera you will feel very comfortable with the holding and using the R6.Much lighter than the typical DSLR yet sports more capabilities than most of Canons DSLRsCapable of USBC charging Power Delivery is RequiredIf using Anker charging products, do not use PowerIQ 3.0 products with the R6 as it will not work. You must use the standard Power Delivery chargers.ConsNeeds ALLI CompressionFix overheating issues Major problem of the R6 for videoNeeds Aperture and Shutter Priority for VideoNeeds to be able to set video Custom ModesRemove 2959 record limitsNeeds to be able to Dual Record record to both SD cardsOverall, the R6 can fit the role of a general multipurpose camera for many users. The camera is very capable in photography and provides extraordinary video features compared to Canons existing lineup.

I had upgraded to a Canon R a year ago and regretted it as soon as I saw the announcement for the R6. It is marvelous that Canon finally decided not to downgrade a major feature or 2 in this class of camera in order to force the purchase of the 5DR5 class. I bought the R and the 6D before that because I take a lot of pictures in places like churches where there is low light, but the autofocus for sports was not as good. I just took some pictures of moving birds and the autofocus was fast and accurate. I was considering purchase of the RF 2470 f2.8 lens because the EF version does not have image stabilization, but the EF version works great with the IS in the R6. I can take reasonably sharp pictures in low light with the shutter speed at 14 second. I still need to experiment more with the R6, but its looking great so far.

Im a long time video editor, but only an amateur photographer. I decided to take the leap from the Canon M50 into the FullFrame world of the Canon R6, and I absolutely love it.Pros1. Feels great in the hand.Easy to hold.2. IBIS is great even for handheld video shots3. Overheating has not been an issue for me yet, and I have recorded a decent amount of 4k videos throughout 34 hour photography video sessions.4. CLOG looks amazing, especially through a CamLink directly recording from HDMI5. Autofocus is fast6. Eye autofocus is great on people, and works 75ish of the time on animals in my experience. Sometimes it will grab the fur back feathers instead of eyes.7. Dual card slots are great already saved me a day of shooting when my computer decided to eat a card8. Flip screen is easy to use9. Menu system is super easy to use and navigate. I can change settings on the fly and within 30 seconds be in a completely different shooting modeCons1. Battery does NOT charge in the camera without the very overpriced adapter. This also means its a bit of a bust for streaming. You can use a third party adapter at your own risk to supply power.2. EF adapter is required to use EF lenses, and those are quite hard to find right now.3. Lens lineup isnt huge in the RF market right now, but it looks to be expandingThese cons arent necessarily exclusive to the Canon R6, but I do feel like they bring the value of the ecosystem down a bit as a whole. That being said I am absolutely in love with this camera body and plan to use it for many years to come.I am currently using the kit lens as well as the RF 35mm, and both produce great images and videos. All in all, love it.

I come from a Canon 1DM4. Its a tank. I love my tank. Knew I would upgrade sometime but my tank rolled on. I shoot mostly action for my business, some theaterdance and some film set work and over the years I guess I just didnt realize how much I had to work the tool to create, until I got the R6 in my hands. After reading lots of reviews and watching a slew of YT videos, I pulled the trigger on the R6 and I couldnt be happier. The AF on this thing is insane Not having to reframe was actually disconcerting at first but boy do you get used to it fast Its lighter than my tank even with the battery grip but in the end thats not a bad thing either. My advice is if youre on the fence, do what I did, rent one. Take it out and shoot what you shoot I shot a HS Lacrosse game stone cold. It was very disconcerting…but in a good way Crazy technology. Do it.

I have had the R6 for a few weeks now. The camera was a breeze to set up, and the autofocus has been on point In the past few weeks Ive shot a ton of photos and a few videos, and have never experienced any overheating or anything of the sort. I just upgraded from the Canon Rebel t6i, so the usability was quite similar. The ISO performance from what Ive tested so far which is only up to 32006000 was still yielding a very clean image. I bought the Canon EF to RF adapter so I could still use all of my EF lenses, and I am happy to say that all the lenses have worked just as well. No problems with autofocus Overall, a great upgrade, and I look forward to potentially getting a second R6 or R5 later this year

So far so good. Exceptional IQ. Coming from a Canon 90D I did not have to relearn everything from scratch and that was nice. Auto Focus is fast and spot on for stationary objects. I have not had a chance to go through all of the AF modes for BIF. This will take some time as there are lots of options. Camera has a good grip and is comfortable to carry and use. Battery life is much better than expected compared to other models. I am totally amazed with the reduction of noise in high ISO images. I have taken pictures at ISO 6400 and above and have totally useable images even magnified up to 200 in post. That alone would be reason enough to keep this camera If the keeper rate for BIF is better than the Canon 90D then decision made
MettleGossett –
I love it. The 4k video on this camera is phenomenal. There are a lot of so so reviews on this camera online and I just consider them clickbait. The one feature I have found to be indispensable is the button layout during video capture. You can adjust aperture, shutter speed, and ISO all with the physical dials quickly. On the EOS R almost everything was in the menu and it was a real hassle to quickly adjust settings. On this camera its a breeze.
Andrew –
Pros I bought this R6 because with a converter I can use all my EF EFS Lenses. I have gone through a long series of Canon Cameras from the Canon AE to the EOS 7D Mk ii This is not just brand loyalty if you own a large number of lenses its wise to think how to keep using them their value. Plus though new, the style and feel of R6 is familiar.Cons Major complaint no EF to RF converter included had to buy 3rd Party and I couldnt see any of those in your stock list.At this price, I want and expect a Canon Original converter as part of the deal.

I dont know, but this camera is just fun to use. Ive owned Sony and Fuji cameras still kept my Fuji, but something about the feel of this camera just makes me want to pick it up and shoot pictures. The Sony never gave me that feeling, despite the awesome images it produced. The R6 just works so well with whatever you throw at it.The ergonomics have been upgraded from the EOS R with the addition of the scroll wheel and the replacement of the touch bar, with a tried and true joystick. Dual card slots, blazing AF it blows away the EOS R with this newest dual pixel autofocus. And in some ways I actually prefer the top mode dial on this vs the R and R5 top screen. Again, its just simple to use and produces beautiful images. You will not be disappointed. Unless you really need 45mp, this camera is amazing. Save the money and put it toward some RF glass
Julie –
I debated back and forth about investing in a Canon system vs the other brands, fullframe vs cropped, etc. I am 100 pleased with this camera for both photos and video. Autotracking is amazing for portrait work and fastmoving people in videos. Ive never had any overheating issues while doing video. This camera does really well in lower light situations where my previous 43 mirrorless fell short. I love it
Kathryn –
This is my fifth Canon SLR camera but as a small, grandmotherly person Ive always used apsc format. Very pleased with R6s small form factor, and light weight. R6s great lowlight performance is very noticeable, and a highly useful improvement over my previous 80D. Overall image quality is also improved even using the same lenses. Super easy to use controls. Easy to open up to control DoF or customize AF point, or etc on the fly. Very happy with this camera for both personal travel and professional RE photography work.
Keith –
Pros Backbutton focus builtin as a feature. IBIS which works on oldertype lenses. Frame capture rate for fastmoving subjects such as birds where the wing position is important. Very quiet shutter, or silent operation when needed.Cons I understand the need for a lower megapixel count due to image processing at highspeed capture, but I find that there is a noticeable noise apparent in lowlight, high ISO settings which Ive not been used to in previous cameras.

I got this a week ago. Keep in mind you are spending 2700 dollars on a camera that still needs to be in 1080p sometimes. It does an amazing job on 4K but when it overheats you have to drop down to 1080. At 2600 you would hope 4K some format would not overheat. With that said what you get out of this camera looks amazing. They need some firmware updates to help it out. I should be able to use my custom settings for video modes and not just photography modes. The R5 does this. The R6 should as well. We do need Clog3 and alli if it helps the camera not to overheat. Ipb uses lots of processing. Would like a hq 1080 p as well from a down sample of 2k maybe.

Took the camera out of the box, installed fully charged battery turned it on, proceeded to set it up like my EOS R, worked for 10 minutes then the back screen went black. All gone, returned it to BH and ordered another one hoping this was just a dud and a new one will be fine. Of course it was out of stock and I have to wait a few more weeks. Not a BH fault. Just hope canon did not produce a bunch of duds I have been using canon for 20 years hopefully this I my first and last problem with them.
Fernando –
I hastily bought this with the kit lens because the Body Only was not available. I honestly, at the time, thought I would be able to get the adapter elsewhere. Boy was I wrong It was nowhere to be found. Not even Canon had them So sadly it had to go back or it would sit in my bag collecting dust. This was back in August and it wasnt til late November that I was able to get a used Adapter here at BH. Soon after got the Body Only and let me tell ya…as it has been said over and over…the Animal Eye AF is amazing and has made me a lazy photographer Additionally, brought new life to my Sigma 150600 C

Extremely happy with the Canon EOS R6. Im a professional wedding photographer and was blown away by the speed and accuracy of this camera. I studied it all week before taking it to a wedding and highly recommend doing the same, it has some features that need to be set up but once I had it were I wanted it, it was a dream to shoot with. I hadnt shot a wedding since October 2020 and only shot three in 2020 due to the pandemic shutdown, so the tears of joy running down my face at the first of many weddings this year and the feeling of finally getting back to work, combined with my brand new camera, felt so good
Chris –
Im a portraitwedding photographer, but I also do professional video work. For a little context, Ive been shooting for over 5 years professionally, and in that time I have used Sony, Fuji, Nikon, Canon, Red, and Blackmagic cameras for photo and video back and forth over the years I love them all for their own reasons. Let me just say right off the bat that this camera is pulling its weight and earning its price tag in both fields. I never intended to use this camera for pro video work, but the image is so nice out of it that Im selling my Blackmagic Pocket Cinema 6K rig in lieu of my R6s now seriously, its that good. Canon Log 10bit 422 files are every bit as flexible as my 121 BRAW files from the BMPCC 6K, and they actually color down much, much quicker and nicer. Im seriously floored by the image out of this thing. Overheating IS a thing, but if you shoot smart and plan for it, its not a problem. Though I do have 2 of these cameras for photo work, so Im at an advantage there, being able to roundrobin the cameras if needed though I havent had to on the two allday shoots Ive done so far. Really stellar video out of this thing. Ive shot all 4k 60 and 4k 24, FWIW. On the stills front, its equally impressive. Faster FPS rate than Ill ever need, even for when I do sports work. Autofocus is an absolute dream for stills and video, especially for portrait and wedding work. The image quality is excellent even at high ISOs, raw files are flexible as much so as my coveted A7rIII files I used to swear by, and the overall user experience, ergonomics, etc are second to none. Plus, the dual UHSII SD cards are the perfect choice in my opinion. I love having the same media across all my cameras, and love that SD cards are such a better value over CFexpress. The R5 looks beautiful, but I have never seen the need for all that resolution in my field of work. Most of my work ends up online or on social media, plus the hard drive and cloud storage adds up quick already at 3TB on Adobe. Canon really did pull out all the stops for this new R lineup. And thank god, because the R, while interesting and a great gateway into the incredible RF lens lineup, was a halfbaked camera for professionals. This is just such a wellrounded package, and even weeks later Im still just swooning over these cameras. Highly, highly recommended. Also, Pictureline is a fantastic company. Definitely give them your business if you have the option.

Ive had a long line of Canon cameras starting with a T2i and including several APSC and FF EFmount cameras. With exception of a brief relationship with the original EosM, this is my first mirrorless camera, and this camera is SO MUCH FUN TO USE. The controls are perfect, so good in fact that Ive made the jump to shooting in Manual mode after being a dedicated Av mode shooter with my previous cameras. The autofocus is fantastic and quite magical to see the eyedetect follow birds around. Dynamic range and highISO performance are leaps above the 7Dii that I replaced. My EF lenses are working great with the EFEosR adapter sold separately. I havent tried video yet.

Great first full frame camera. I recently sold off my M5 and was on the hunt for something more prosumer. I was lucky enough to snag this body and combine it with a discount in my Member Offers to make the deal even sweeter.I was not thrilled about the prices of the RF lenses but after waiting a few weeks, I was able to snag a 85mm and preordered the 50mm. So far I am blown away by the results. My only complaint is I wish it had a top OLED screen like the r5 but I wasnt about to drop an extra 1,500. Images are crisp and the entry level RF glass if more than adequate to get the job done.

I just got the R6 after shooting on the Mark IV for a few years. The biggest differences Ive noticed areThe eye focus tracking on the R6 is pretty great. It doesnt work all the time but Ive used it for portraits and had good results.I set up the AFOn button to be my normal single point focusing and the button to be eye tracking, so I can easily switch between them if the eye tracking is getting confused or if Im shooting a building or object.AND this camera is SHARP I didnt know my 2470 could be as sharp as it is shooting on this camera. The electronic viewfinder shows your what your exposure will look like, which is pretty awesome So instead of taking a shot and checking the back of the camera, I can just adjust my settings and see the exposure change from the viewfinder. Its a little different so I still check sometimes but it definitely streamlined my shooting process more.It takes two SD cards instead of an SD and a CF. I love this feature Ive always hated having to use CF cards and pulling out my external card reader etc. BUT if youre going with the R5, it takes completely different cards which are like 100 for a 64gb.I was afraid that the R6 wouldnt be enough megapixels because I like to crop my images a fair bit when Im shooting wedding candids, but so far I havent had any issues. They are smaller file sizes when I export them, but the cropped images still look really crisp. Its quiet The shutter is much quieter when shooting normally compared to the Mark IV and when youre in life view you can barely hear it at all, which is great for quiet weddings. It definitely has more dynamic range than the Mark IV. I recently shot sunset portraits and really pushed it to expose for the sunset and then bring the subjects back in editing and it worked pretty well. I was able to get back a lot of detail from the shadows which much less noise than I would on my Mark IV.Editing was tricky at first because Lightroom doesnt currently have a color profile for it, so Ive been using Adobe Vivid.

The EOS R6 is not what I thought it would be. While it has a few good features for my use I do NOT include Video as I only take still photos such high fps, and I do like the silent shutter as it is truly silent and the EVF is not nearly as bad as I have heard some say, and while it does do a good job in low light I have to ask whats the point With the small 20.1 MP sensor you get no good detailed shots unless maybe if you are standing on top of your subject. And excellence in photos is in the detail. They Animal tracking is superb… when it hits. Which is in my experience about 60 of the time. There is a lot of room for improvement here.Overall I am extremely disappointed in this camera. Had I the opportunity to do things different I would have purchased an EOS 90D.I can not recommend this product to any serious photographer. And if you are not serious it is pricey.

Finally full confidence with Canon mirrorless Ive been waiting for this generation of mirrorless cameras from Canon and it did not disappoint The RRP line was almost there but with shooting longer events, the battery life just didnt do it for me. The new and improved R5R6 line is perfect. Awesome focusing system, colours are to Canons reputation, smart move with the extended LpE6 batteries and the RF lenses are incredible. Great for video too so the versatility factor is huge. Not disappointed at all with the R6 and and will be picking up a couple more soon

Shipped quickly and arrived undamaged and ready to go Ive been loving learning how to use it.There are a lot of different options for even the most simple functions like dozens of autofocus settings and adjustments, so Ive needed a lot more time to get used to this camera than I did when I bought my first DSLR in 2008. Im not complaining, I love the options Just plan on spending more time learning how to utilize most of them.

I have been doing photography as a hobby for 5 years. Before I used a second hand 2011 Canon 50D until I saved enough to buy something like this. I wanted the lowlight capability, fast focus, better handling of harsher light conditions and the image stabilization. The focus is intelligent and lighting fast, making it great when Im taking photos on outings for people especially kids and pets. The image stabilization works wonders because I move so much when taking photos I dont like reseting tripods.Im still in love the mechanical dials instead of a screen like the R5 has and I can control ISO, fstop and shutter without looking at a menu. Thats a very intuitive control for me.The video is great as well, very clear. The sound isnt terrible either without proper equipment I was on a cliff in light breeze.I highly recommend if you are wanting to spend the and this is either your first experience going mirrorless or getting a big upgrade. In sum… I cant even pick up the 50D now.Im very very happy with this camera I do photography as a hobby and do photoshoots on the side from my vfx profession.also almost bought the mark iv, Im glad I went with this

This camera was delivered about a month sooner than I expected. Thank u BH.This camera is very well laid out with every control in the right place. There are multiple options for each control so I can get it almost perfect. It focuses fast than any other camera I have had. I bought this to be my everything camera and I am very happy. I sold my trusty 7D2, my 90D and will soon sell my RP and my Ms. All of these cameras are exceptional but each has a slightly different set of controls and placement which drove me crazy. None focus as fast or have as good image quality. I shoot mainly birds, wildlife and macro.

I use this camera for wildlife, it is wonderful to shoot with The megapixels are high enough to do a little bit of cropping Autofocus is dead on most of the time using the 600mm lens with BIF Feels great in the hand when using the viewfinder I have the battery grip and it makes shooting all day long possible without having to worry about the battery going dead on you Love it Hopefully someday the R5 is in stock, will be getting it when it is Thanks BH, King of Beasts Inspirational Photography

Ergonomic issues. If this is going to be your only body, andor you primarily shoot hand holding, please try it before you buy it. Canon, IMHO, fixed something that wasnt broken, the body shape. Make sure you check out the camera grip with your usual lenses while shooting a bit. Canons new grip will probably not be a hinderance to those using a tripod or video cage.Canon significantly changed the grip portion of the body on both R5 and R6 compared to Canon DSLR full frame bodies. I have an R5 and R6 and they both cause my hand to cramp while shooting. Instead of the grip fitting in my hand as it does on my 5 Canon DSLR bodies, it is necessary to pinch the R5R6 grip with finger tips to hold onto the body. The new grip shape does not fit into my hand resulting in cramps after a while. This body style change also resulted in the trigger being in a little different, to me awkward, position. As soon as I put these bodies away and continue shooting with DSLR bodies, instant right hand relief. Yes, I did pick up a battery grip in an attempt to make these cameras more comfortable to use. The battery grip does contribute some relief because it is added to the bottom which allows my right hand to twist a little so I am not needing to pinch as much. If you have a small dainty hand, or shorter fingers, the shape of the grip may not be such a problem or if you shoot a very light lens like the nifty fifty.Since I only shoot stills there is no comment on video. Still picture IQ and focusing system makes both the R5 and R6 keepers for me despite the issues with the body, but I do have to bring along a DSLR body for substitution when on longer shoots to give my hand some relief.

Overall this camera takes excellent photos that look great and I definitely recommend if youre coming from like an EOS RP its probably worth a look if youre looking for something a little nicer.Honestly most of the negatives are just part of being in the Canon ecosystem the 30 minute record limit on video isnt great and just seems to be there to make life annoying for hybrid or video shooters. Outputting over HDMI for webcam usage with an Elgato Camlink has some odd framerate issues I assume since the camera isnt recording it is doing its best to reduce heat generation. Attempting to use the EOS UtilityWebcam Beta did not work for me at all, I assume that still needs to be updated. That being said, as far as image quality goes its great even in Video so Im quite happy
Mark –
Ive had it a week after a two month wait. So far its a fine fun camera. Image quality has been excellent to very acceptable even at several thousand ISO.The menu is typical Canon but theres more there with multiple tracking options, etc. The face and eye tracking is mind boggling one of those things you have to see to believe. I shoot back button and theres nothing new there. The Fv is a lot of fun and its actually my C1 customization mode. My C2 is Tv for birds in flight. The buttonwheel arrangement is excellent with many many customization options. The viewer is so good one never has to look away.Ive paired the R6 only with the new RF 800 F 11 so far as I have been at a National Wildlife Refuge shooting birds. That combination is easily managed handheld because the total weight is quite low.I think that a lot of photographers will be amazed by this new addition to Canons mirrorless offerings. Negatives None but Im still trying to decide if the toggle is a plus or not. Its not in the way but I just havent used it much yet.
Mark –
The EOS R6 is everything I wanted in a camera. It is small, light, and solidly built. It handles difficult lighting situations extremely well, and its autofocus is fast and versatile. The 24105mm f47.1 lens works great for daylight photography. Its photos are sharp, and I appreciate the ability to focus on objects from the horizon to nearby.

I bought the R6 not too long ago through a different retailer because of inventory reasons. Anyway, the R6 to me is a great way to take pictures in a very lightweight format with great glass. I wished Canon did made this model into a 30MP just like the 5DMIV. Both of these cameras are great in their own right. They are both useful but the R6 keeps me light if I decide to do street photography, some landscape, portraits because of the eyeface tracking features and low light situations, the R6 will definitely achieve those situations. My 5DIV will still be used for landscapes because its higher megapixels and still useful for portraits. The R5 is great as well and maybe it made more sense to upgrade to that because it makes sense on paper but in the field, CFexpress are more expensive and 45MP is nice to have but I dont print. Also, Im not a vlogger nor a videographer so the 4K and 8k capabilities on the R5 will not be used for someone like me. The R6 to me is more reasonable add on to my gear because it still takes sharp images in such a lightweight format when I want to feel lightweight and only shooting for a few hours If I need to keep shooting for along time, that is when I pull out the 5DMIV to keep shooting because the battery life is longer. I would probably use the R6 as my primary and my 5DMIV as my backup. Thats just me though.

Several times I was out shooting wildlife with one of the two R6 cameras I have and my Canon 500F4.0ii. I have the battery grips with 2 batteries in each. After an hour and a half to two hours of shooting the electronic viewfinder suddenly gets completely washed out and everything locks up and I can no longer use it. When I get home after about an hour, Ill turn on the camera and everything seems to be fine. The batteries seem to be fine. With any of the other Canon cameras Ive owned, Ive never had a problem like this. Im using manual exposure with auto ASA. Even though I like using the camera, I dont know if I would ever recommend it.
Steven –
I shoot stills, not much into videos. So my opinion is slanted totally to still photography. You have more than likely already read a number of reviews that have gone into great detail about the various features of this sensational camera. Im not going to repeat all of that. First let me say that Canon did a fantastic job in designing and building this camera, but failed in its marketing.Ive been a strong enthusiast for over 20 years starting out with Nikon and converting to Canon. In my opinion the R6 is head and shoulders above my last two Canons a 5D MIV, to an R.The sharpness, the speed, the clarity, the features and especially the incredible IBIS and super fast auto focus system are sensational. Worried about the 20MP I was, until I tried the R6. Its 20MP sensor teamed with the incredible X processor delivers outstanding sharpness, color and definition. Is it worth trading up from a R or from a 5D MIVABSOLUTELYI highly recommend this great piece of kit
Robert –
I decided to upgrade from a Canon 7D and get more involved in astrophotography, landscape, and wild life photography. Waiting to take a trip for some nighttime photos but have experimented with taking pictures of my dogs using the eye focus. It works great. Even to the point that I can zoom in on his eyes and see my reflection. Havent taken any video yet but plan on doing that as well. If you are looking for a beginner camera I would definitely check it out. Menus are a little bit to get use to but once you learn its easy.
Nicholas –
Upgraded from my 5dMkiii and wow This mms technology has come a long long way since my 5d. I am using my EF lenses with the adapter as a professional photographer and this camera makes my job easier and makes the EF lenses feel new. Its zero effort to gain perfect focus, every single time. Everything about this camera is next level. I almost upgraded a year ago to the R but needed 2 SD spots. I was also torn between this and the R5 and ultimately decided to get this after tons of research. The 20 MP is more than enough for anything my clients need family wedding photography and the money saved is worth it. Best decision Ive made
Katheryn –
Waited way to long for this camera. Im not a professional but I use the camera in my business. That means Ill have a learning curve to function comfortably with my setup. I think the instruction manual is limited. Online instruction is my next stop. Id take a class but this covid thing is keeping me away from people. No books on a just released camera, yet. So far its a struggle but I see the potential.
JOHN –
Great camera. If you dont really need massive megapixels and most situations dont require it, especially since 90 percent of viewing is done on screens these days and not 300dpi printing then this is a camera to seriously consider. Lack of a top LCD panel like on the R5 is no big deal. Any info you need is on the rear panel or in the viewfinder. Nice to have stabilization for those RF lenses that dont have it when used on my R bodies. Dual cards is always nice as a safety backup on important shoots. Shutter is incredibly quiet. Very happy with this purchase.
David –
My upgrade path has been T3i, 7D Mark II, to R6. The R6 blows my mind. The eye detect autofocus is some black magic, voodoo creation that I will apologize for using when my day comes, but until then, I will gleefully capture photos I never thought possible. I have a very energetic 18month old so getting perfect focus was always a challenge, now I dont even have to think about it I can focus my attention to light, shadows, composition, etc. The most common response when someone uses it for the first time is, thats cheating. If youre looking for good lowlight capabilities and a rockstar focus engine, this is your baby.
Hemi –
This the first Canon camera purchased within the first few months of release. Great camera, very intuitive and easy to use. This came has the same interface as other canons I have owned. I have been shooting photos only for 2 12 years and must say this r6 does wonderful job. Im very happy with the eye focus on my animal photos. I never had any reservations about the 20 mg pixel sensor. This camera my go camera, I never leave home without it Very glad I bought this new technology from Canon.
David –
Im not much of a review guy, but the R6 has impressed me in every way. I shoot a lot of portraits, weddings, and sports and it handles everything flawlessly. For portraits, the eye af is spot on makes framing the subject my only concern. For weddings, I was a tad nervous to try the eye af with more people moving around, but it was again perfect. Occasionally it would grab someone I did not want, but it is very easy to touch and drag the screen to the person you want, not that it missed very much at all.Sports, just wow I can now shoot in the darkest gyms at 11000 of a second and Im getting great images. The high ISO performance is amazing 12,800, 16,000 never looked so good. The same for outdoor sports in badly lite schools. As for battery life, It doesnt last as long as my old DLSR but its pretty good. Ive done a 5 and 6hour wedding with both about 22.5k worth of shots and only had to change batteries once. I can easily shoot an entire soccer game and then shoot Volleyball after on the same battery. 1,2001500 shots with 2025 battery left.Duel sd card slot is a big win for me. The electronic viewfinder is very nice seeing your exposure before you shoot. Checking the viewfinder of your shots on a bright day is great. You can view images through the viewfinder on the r6, that was new to me. Not sure what else I can say the buttons layout and control are very easy to use and if your familiar with Canons menu you wont have any trouble. Okay, I think a rambled long enough, All and all I highly recommend the R6

I waited 5 years to get this camera. First I waited for the right Sony. Then I purchased the Sony A7III and soon after the Fujifilm XH1. Both great, outstanding and groundbreaking cameras in their own right. But I already had plenty of Canon Lenses and used these lenses with those bodies with an adapter. Although some lenses worked better than others, reliability was always an issue. No more. I am happy that Ive returned to Canon. Still love my other bodies. Life is good. Enjoy
John –
This is one of the highest camera systems Ive ever seen…The R6 makes taking good pictures really simple. The AF system is en pointe, and the body feels comfortable to hold. The kit lens is adequate but getting one of the new premium RF lenses will really unlock the cameras capabilities…One of the few things I dislike is the onoff button being on the other side of the eyepiece so its hard to operate onehanded.
IllegalImmigrant –
Amateur photographer that knows nothing. Ive been looking at and wanting a camera for a long time now and decided to go with this one for my first camera. Looking a reviews and comparing with other cameras, this is one of the best choice Ive made. Fantastic camera, takes really nice photos. Im still learning about photography and this is a great start. Will be buying more lens for this for this camera.
Emily –
This camera has STELLAR sharpness and clarity. The lowlight capabilities are out of this world. I literally shot at iso 32,000 last night in my kitchen and had zero noise. I will never go back to DSLR. Mirrorless forever I love that I can send the images straight to my phone to upload and share on my social media platforms. This takes a step out of running my business
Mark –
I wrote a positive review just a few days ago.Im afraid I have to modify my review. I spent the weekend shooting and, like Sarah, I started having major focusing problems. Very random success using two different lenses. Im contacting Canon USA tonight but I too am afraid that a brand new camera for which I waited two months is going to have to be returned for servicing. Not satisfactory Canon.
Anthony –
My first review of this camera was one star because it was dead on arrival. I sent that one back to BH and ordered a new one and had to wait 3 weeks because it was out of stock. It was well worth the wait the new one arrived with the new firmware installed and it works better than I expected. I was worried about the 20 megapixels as opposed to my 30 megapixel EOS R not having the same resolution. After 100 test shots my worries were over this camera has better resolution than any of my previous canon cameras that I have owned the past 20 years. I was amazed at the difference. I guess that having the same sensor as the flagship 1DX mark3 does make a difference. I am very happy that I returned the dud and got this one. I have never had a problem with my canon gear in the past and was pretty confident that it was just a production fluke that happens with all manufactured products. So do not worry about the megapixel size it is more than enough. The auto focus system is awesome, eye focus for people and wildlife works flawlessly. Very impressive, best in the camera world. Try it you will like it.

Awesome mirrorless camera with a ton of features. Upgraded from a Canon T6s and the switch was much easier than expected. The R6 is easy to use and customize. The interface is streamlined and makes adjustmentscustomizations simple. So setting it up to what youre familiar with is quick. Definitely, a lot of options for customization which allows for faster setting adjustments to take a shot.Havent used this camera with the RF lenses yet, but using the control ring adapter with the EF lenses has been seamless. The addition of the control ring also allows for another quick way to make adjustments. The electronic viewfinder is fast, clear and accurate.Images come out super sharp with the quick and smart autofocusing system. Shutter is relatively silent.Havent used the videorecording features as extensively yet. So far, they seem fine for some casual videos.Looking forward to seeing what else Canon comes out with

This is my 9th Canon camera. The latest 3 is the 5dIII, the M50 and now this R6. Immediately, I love it. The camera feels solid and professional. It takes wonderful photos If i know what I am doing and it is complicated. Many, many buttons and they dont work like the 5dIII and the m50. The lens is different, too. I called Canon help to find out how to focus manually. They didnt know and it too several minutes to find out how. For a full size camera and the 24105 lens, it is not very heavy. The 5dIII desk weight. But to reiterate, I love the camera
Mr Andrew Lovibond –
Ive waited a long time to buy my first mirrorless full frame camera. Ive only had chance to use it a couple of times in the 2 weeks Ive had it but Im amazed with it. It certainly lives up to my expectations both in the studio and for wildlife photography too. In the studio in low light situations its low light focusing is amazing and focuses fast in extreme low light situations where older DSLR cameras would never have got a focus lock. For wildlifenature photography the animal tracking ability of the autofocus is fast and reliable and the colours and sharpness of the as shot JPEGs are fantastic.
Halconespiritu –
Powerful camera major upgrade from RP, 90D M5M6 mark ii. Autofocus is quick accurate, extremely impressive iso performance unlike anything Ive used in previous models. Perfect with RF 35, makes the 24105 f7.1 kit lens quite useable, EF 1635 F4, stellar with EF 100400 mini. Definitely the best camera superb investment for me, excellent choice for any hobbyists or enthusiasts
John M –
Traded in all 3 of my cameras, including an R, for this R6. So far it lives up to all the great review comments about it.I was worried that it might be a little small for my large hands because I found the R to be but its just big enough to feel more like my 7D MK II and grip. I also bought the battery grip for the R6 and find the combo to be comfortable. The buttons and controls are very well placedas much like the SLRs as can be.I feared the 20 mp sensor but have found it not to be a problem because of the IBIS and very high ISO clarity hence allowing faster shutter speeds. Photos are clear even when zoomed as far in as the camera allows when previewing. Very cropable I would say.Im still learning AF. Its potentials are mind blowing.
Daniel –
Its safe to say in todays world it takes a lot to be impressed. After all most cameras are pretty good. With all of the reviews I thought I knew what I was getting. Plus Ive been a live long cannon user. Ive had a xti, T7i, rp, and 1d Mark iv. Saying Ive been blown away is an understatement. The eye focus, and focus speed is amazing The ibis is great and a welcomed addition for panning shots. Then there is the iso capability. I cant wait to get into a concert and use this camera It was well worth the wait and worth the cost

Dont listen to the naysayers out there complaining about heat issues. Your computer will melt down trying to process 8k video anyway. I am always amazed that the majority of complaints come from people who are always standing on the sideline with endless complaints about any camera. Never buying anything…..just complaining. The instant auto focus is in a class of its own and that feature alone is worth the price of the camera, not to mention the stunning video and stills.
Trent –
I finally bite the bullet and bought the R6 and boy oh boy is this thing a beast. Im coming from using the canon 6D so this thing is amazing. The autofocus works flawlessly Dont worry about the 20mp because the digic X processor gives your photos incredible dynamic range and sharpness The 4K video quality will have you shooting movies like your name is spike Lee Incredible quality. Unless you are willing to pony up for the R5 or 1DX this camera has you covered, trust me
Heidi –
I preordered the r6 in July and just received it a few weeks ago. I was getting quite impatient, but its been soooo worth the wait I was wanting to upgrade to a full frame camera and the r6 was released right around that time. Im so glad I went with mirrorless rather than the Mark 4. I love how compact, light, and nifty the body is. And the focus In love. So sharp and precise. Im so happy with my new camera
Carl –
I have just received my new EOS R6 w24105 F4 lens and its everything that I was hoping for.I will be giving my comments and perspective relative to the Sony A7III which I have been shooting with now for a few years.First off the R6 ergonomics. The R6 just feels right in the hand compared to the A7III. It has a great balance to it, the grip lets you hold the camera without your little finger dangling in the air and the camera feels SOLID in the hand. There is a good balance to the camera when paired with the 24105. It is slightly heavier than the equivalent A7III combo but I actually prefer that. I am really impressed with the R6 build quality as well. I have read its not quite the same as the R5 but I still think its a very good build as compared to my A7III. I would rate the build quality on the R6 slightly better than my A7III.The R6 MenuI have already found that the menus are organized much better than the Sony system. Even after a few years of shooting the Sony A7III I still had trouble finding some menu items. I have been only using the R6 for a week now and I am already becoming very comfortable with the menu layout and know where all of my goto settings are.The Articulating Flippy ScreenYES Not having an articulated screen on the A7III was its biggest dealbreaker for me. The articulating screen is one of the main reasons I am jumping ship to Canon from Sony. Oh and I am not even a videographer I use my camera 99 of the time for photography. The ability to articulate the screen is important. Why Its because I take a lot of vertical orientated photos where I stand my camera on its side. I shoot many photos low to the ground and high in the air street and cityscape photos. The articulating screen just makes it so much easier when shooting my photos in that vertical orientation. I am a big fan of articulating screens since getting to use a friends GH5 years ago. I was hooked and it suits my style of photography much better than the standard flip up screens on most camera brands. The Touch ScreenI did not even realize the R6 screen supported touch. In the short time I have been using the camera, I have found myself using the touch function more than I thought I would. Pretty cool.EVFThe EVF is really nice and better IMO than my A7III. No problems with it so far.Photo QualityFirst impressions of photos taken with the R6 are really nice. Skin tones look to me more natural out of camera than my A7III. I have been shooting both JPG and RAW on the R6 and I am really impressed with its color science. I can now appreciate much of what I have been reading for years now about Canon colors. The 24105 captures some very impressive photos. I have taken some portraits of family and some outdoor shots and I am really pleased with the photos.IBISI am VERY impressed with the IBIS system,. In my opinion, it beats the A7III stabilization hands down. I used the R6 in video mode and was seriously impressed with how smooth the video was when walking around. I can see why vloggers will love this camera. I have used IBIS to help take some test photos at low shutter speeds and so far its yielding very sharp images down to 15 secondAFI was a big user of EyeAF in my A7III and actually think the R6 FaceEye detection might even be a little better. Autofocus is very very good from my testing so far. I was spoilt with the A7III autofocus but the R6 is definitely on par with the A7III from what I have experienced.BatteryI have been using the camera now for a week which included a trip up to San Francisco last weekend to try out the camera. I took over 300 photos and I have just lost one bar on the battery from a full charge. I have read the R6 battery does not match the A7III capacity but I will see how that goes as I continue to use the camera.OverheatingI have tried out the video function on the R6 but not in any heavy use sense. I have been using the R6 primarily for photo and so far I have not experienced any overheating. I will update my review if any overheating happen to the camera. The 24105 lensThis lens is solid and built really well. Oh and it takes really nice photos. It is larger than the Sony equivalent. Optically I cannot complain it takes high quality and sharp images note I am not a pixel peeper and do not get down to pixel level analysis. I do miss the programmable button that Sony has on their lenses I had that configured to enable EyeAF however, I do like the control ring on the Canon lens. I have that currently configured to adjust exposure control. I do like that the Canon 24105 has stabilization built in. That when coupled with the IBIS makes this really easy to use. So far I have shot down to 15 second and still getting very stable shots out of the camera.Overall FeedbackIts only been a week since I got this camera but I am really enjoying the R6. I have made my mind up that I am going to be trading in my A7II and Sony lenses and jumping back into the Canon ecosystem. I was a critic of Canon for many years and felt they had lagged behind their competitors especially Sony. However, the R6 brings them back with a highly competitive camera system that ticks off many boxes for me. This camera is a beast and I am looking forward to getting out there with this camera and capturing some great photos. A quick shoutout to BH who were amazing as usual in getting this camera to me quickly.

I usually shoot with the Canon 5D Mark IV and love it. Everyone raved that the focus on this would be so much better so I decided to try it out. It was super fast and the focus is pretty great BUT the colors are SO dull. The whites and highlights arent as vibrant as the Mark IV. The skin tones dont look nearly as pretty either. Super disappointed. A few photographers have tested this one vs the Sony A7Riv and the skin tones are GORGEOUS with the sony so Ill probably switch to that eventually.

This is my second camera purchase, I first bought an SL3. This camera is OFFICIAL My SL3 is a toy compared to this. I cant believe how clear the videos and photos are, even in really low light with high ISO I see almost no noise Im beyond impressed with how long the battery lasts, I havent had a single overheating problem and have been using it almost every other day since I purchased it. A built in flash would have been a nice touch but I can live without it. It is so quick and precise with everything, I am so glad I bought this camera Even my friends who have no interest in photography were in love with it and couldnt take their hands off of it. I feel like this camera will allow me to create even better films and ads, which in turn will bring in more business. Hands down one of the most solid investments Ive ever purchased. Id give it 10 stars if I could
Patrick –
20 Megapixels Doesnt matter. The photos that this camera takes is absolutely amazing. I love everything about this camera especially the ergonomics, its just pretty much everything Ive ever wanted in a camera and as I dont use 4k video, at least for long the over heating doesnt bother me in the slightest, I never even see an overheating warning.Im absolutely in love with this camera. People say you cant crop with this photo but the photo that I posted on here with the hot air balloon was shot with an 85mm lens and severely cropped in with no loss of quality. All of these images were shot with the r6.3 are edited, 3 are unedited jpeg.

I was going to get the R5 ,but I went to camera shop and took both R5 and R6 outside and indoors and shot both for a couple of hours. I picked the R6 over the R5 becuse of a few reasons, it wasnt worth the difference in money, I actually got better photos in low light and I think just as good Photos as tehR5. I have been amazed at how good this camera is. I have the EOS R too and even though it is 30 megapixels , I really got better show on R6 because of IBIS and better Auto Focus and Low Light. I love the features too. I really enjoy the Function button back on top, it is so quick. I did set one of my Buttons to record Viedo with one touch and then I can switch back with one tough. Fantastic Camera. I think the Color that comes out of the R6 is awesome too.

As a Sony shooter, I decided to look for alternatives since you cant get your hands on an A7Siii until 2021. After days of searching and talking with many mentors, the Canon R56 kept popping up I became intrigued and did my research. What it boils down to is Canon is here to party and they are double fisting two Everclear bottles to the face with ease. This cameras quality is just something to admire. The image sensor used for this camera is out of the top shelf 1DX which allows it to take OUTSTANDING photos and crisp video. The menus are easy to use and I was able to find everything with ease compared to my A7iii I was using for years. Im so glad I stumbled upon this camera and you wont be disappointed with your purchase.

First, technically speaking, this camera is amazing. It makes fantastic images. Full stop. I may spend the next year and a half learning how to effectively use it. I shoot mostly video, so my experience with this camera is limited largely to that. Im also an oldschool type, who likes to do everything manually, and that is where I find the R6 a little frustrating. I wish they put as much into emulating the oldschool manual style of photographyvideography as they did in creating ways to let the camera decide what a good shot is. I fully admit that I have not taken myself to Canon R6 school to truly learn this cameras panoply of features and options, but at the time of this review, I have found it pretty frustrating that I cant seem to easily and reliably figure out how to get past all the AI type features and just shoot what I see and feel at the end of my fingertips. I expect that I will master this camera soon enough and will continue to love it even more. But 5 months in, I still find myself cursing it from time to time for helping me too much even when I think that Ive turned all that stuff off.

After 6 years of heavy use from my Canon 70D, I decided it was time for an upgrade and wow is the R6 a huge step up from the 70D. While the megapixel count between the two cameras are the same, the image quality is by far much better with the R6, where my images are much sharper using the exact same lenses thank you in body image stabilization and EF to RF adapter and look better with more dynamic range in the shots. Additionally, the eyeautofocus is just as amazing as people say it is, with the vast majority of my images perfectly focused on my subjects eye, including animals Add in other features like a great electronic view finder, robust camera finetuning options, dual card slots, 1220 frame per second shooting, silent shooting, a completely rotating screen, and a long lasting battery just be sure to have eco mode turned on and the R6 is just a superb camera. There are time limits when filming in 4k due to heat build up so if thats your thing this might not be the camera for you but if you are just doing short broll style filming, or prefer to shoot in 1080p, then you might be able to use this just fine as a video camera. Anyway, if you are like me and have a worn out DSLR and are looking for a big step up the R6 is an excellent choice.

I already owned an R5. This replaced my 1DX Mark II yes, my 1DX Mark II. I got spoiled by the R5 vs the 1DX, but really didnt need 2 R5s. So I opted for the R6 this time.I shoot wildlife photography and like to have 2 cameras 1 for BIF attached to my EF 100400mm Series 2 with a 1.4X extender and 1 attached to my Canon EF 600mm f4 Series 2 lens. I have the R5 connected to the 600mm and use the R6 for BIF now, replacing the 1DX that I used to use for BIF. Having had some experience with the R6 its what my wife shoots, I felt confident that it would meet my needs. It has met or exceeded all expectations. When I originally purchased my R5, I debated with myself for a long time between the R5 and the R6.Well, after owning both, I have to say that neither is a wrong decision. I love the 45 mp of the R5, but really like the larger pixel size of the R6 for low light. Now the choice is yours. R5 or R6 Whichever you choose, youve made the right choice.
Jeremy –
I shoot professionally both photo and video and the Canon EOS R6 is an amazing tool to use. The overheating issues happen rarely and can easily be mitigated once you are accustomed to shooting with it. It only happens when shooting 4K 60FPS for a long amount of time. The video quality is sharp, crisp and the autofocus is bestinclass. Coming from shooting on a 1DX Mark ii, this Dual Pixel ii is telepathic. The hit rate is insane and it gave the confidence to shoot without having to worry which I think is all you can ask of a camera. Get this and pair with the awesome RF lens glass and youll find that this is one of best tools in the biz.

I had waited for a great Canon Mirrorless and was SOOO excited when this came out. I wish the articulating screen swiveled a tiny bit more even, but its still better than any Ive seen. Its so light wait. Shoots quickly, has so many incredible features and is the perfect camera to use for photo and video which I do. Definitely recommend. I was, and still am a 1DX mark 2 user. and I will say, this is SOOO nice to bring with me for trips, hanging with friends, or epic hiking shoots because how light it is. Its also way better for filming because of the articulating screen

This is a fantastic mirrorless camera Autofocus performances are unbelievable. Animal eye recognition works very well with birds and cats that I tested. The IBIS is awesome and allow to take pictures hand holding the camera at so low shutter speed that I never thought possible. Battery charge seems to be reasonably good but not outstanding. Finally a mirrorless camera from Canon at the same level if not better of the very best available on the market.

So if youre thinking about this camera, just buy it. I thought it would be an incremental upgrade to my Canon EOS 6D mark 2, but it was almost a game changer. The autofocus is light years better. The low light performance is noticeably better. The dynamic range is better. With pandemic, were indoors more. I primarily photograph my small children. My 6D would miss shots all the time. The R6 very reliably catches my kids eyes. It also works really really fast. They dont cooperate or pose. It still gets great action shots. The EVF is a game changer for me. I often screw up shots on my DSLR by not noticing a window in the background or low light fixture that kills the exposure. EVFs really help me catch exposure and white balance mistakes. It works great with all my EF lenses.I will admit I am underwhelmed with a lot of extra features, like the joystick that doesnt work in eye mode or the dual card slots that seem pretty wonky to me. I also was hopeful theyd improve the image upload capability. However, these are minor concerns. My photos are now tangibly better. I now only use a Sigma Art 50mm 1.4 prime lens inside. My flash is collecting dust. I can get good indoor shots that look so much better than before, both due to the Cameras improved sensor and the EVF helping me catch my mistakes before I press the shutter. I was nervous about buying this due to the cost, but definitely dont regret it now that I have it. It changed how I take photographs…making it easier and improving the endresult.

I upgraded six months ago to the Canon EOS R6 after owning and using the EOS R for two years while traveling around America. I was particularly attracted to the improved autofocus of the R6, along with several other upgrades including those that brought this camera closer to the feel and the controls of the EOS 5DIII that I had had previous to the EOS R. Today I find that I really like the EOS R6. It is a great camera the best I have ever had. I am a real proponent, and I am fully converted now to Canons mirrorless technology. I was unsure in making my decision on the R6 whether to get it or to get the very similar R5 with the much larger image sensor. My main concern about the R6 was that going from the 30megapixel R to a 20megapixel R6, I might find I was disappointed with the resulting quality of the images. On the other hand, I was equally concerned that going to the 45megapixel R5, I might discover that the really large images were creating a file storage issue for me one that I did not want to deal with. Today, after six months with the R6 and being very pleased with it, I have taken the time to compare image quality of the many images I have captured with both cameras. I find that I miss the image size and quality of the EOS R. I would have preferred that the R6 also had been produced with a 30megapixel sensor. That does not mean, however, that there is anything wrong with the R6 images. It is more a matter of not being able to crop the R6 images as aggressively as I have been able to do with the EOS R images. Today I have ordered a new Canon EOS R5. I have not decided on the disposition of my R6. I may keep it as a backup. Until I have some experience with the R5, the R6 remains the best camera I have ever owned. Thank you, Canon, for this really great technology.

Mine arrived yesterday so I have not had too much time with it, but was able to do two photoshoots so far. Needless to say as with any pro level camera these days, the image quality is excellent. I primarily do landscapes and 20mp is more than enough, and so far I have printed 13×19 and it is indistinguishable from higher res prints I have. There are many improvements over the R and RP which I love, such as the joy stick and scroll wheel. However, I have noticed things in the menu that are rather odd and hope they will be fixed via firmware, and not left to be forgetten like the RP having an intervalometer and not the R, or the RP having focus bracketing and not the R.I will include photos explaining but here is the issue. In order to record in C log you have to be in Movie mode on the top dial. Usually I would set C1,C2,C3 for my video options, one being 60fps, the other 24fps and the final one at 120fps. However, in movie mode the menu option to save C1,2,3 is not there. This posses a few problems. It adds extra steps to change FPS which is a hassle for run and gun video. Secondly, if you want to do a timelapse video, it needs to be in movie mode, with C Log off, so once again, an additional step is needed. This could all be resolved if canon added the register C1,2,3 option to the menu when in movie mode. Now you could say to just go into M mode and set my settings for each frame rate option and save them there, however, C log cannot be turned on unless in video mode there is no option and secondly, the dedicated record button just goes to some auto settings from what I can see. Very simple fix and I hope it does not get overlooked.

So far, I am having a lot of trouble quickly using the R6 interface. I have used 5D Mark IVs for several years. I miss having the screen on top right. I am also having very hard time with the focus options. Ive gone through them all multiple times and I cant get a consistent focus. At this point I am very frustrated and need some help Yes, Ive watched countless YouTube videos and studied the manual. At a wedding this past weekend I gave up ran to the car and grabbed both my old 5Ds and kept shooting. Thank God I had them as backup.

Canon got it right with their full frame mirrorless system. Ive had the R5 for a while now and love the image quality. As with any high MP camera, noise is an issue so I got the R6 as a second body but also to help control noise with night and other high ISO photography. The R6 doesnt disappoint. I can shoot up to ISO 3200 with little or no noise and 6400 with minor noise control needed. Build quality, ease of use, etc is excellent.

Pros Image quality including dynamic range, eye tracking for people and animals, in camera stabilization, very sharp images.Cons Camera froze on me first time on the job firmware update hopefully fixed that still not a fan of the EVF the projected image in the viewfinder still not nearly as good as an optical viewfinder I dont feel like this camera is as reliable or as ruggedly built as the Canon 5D Mark III and wonder if I should have gotten the 5D Mark IV instead. Also, 20mp is just barely enough wish it was higher at 2530mp.

I shoot for a local ESPN radio affiliate that covers local High School and College sports. The R6 is performing better than I ever expected, in all areas. The buffer is amazing and I dont have to worry about how many pictures are left if I need to take a long burst on an amazing play. The higher ISOs just dont look like they did on my older camera. The controls are a little different, but are so close that it is easy to get used to and I already have started building the new muscle memory for the changes I did have to get used to.

Ive only had the R6 for a week. Peopleeye tracking is wonderful which will be great for my people shooting, although Ive not tried sports. I am still on a learning curve with birds in flight. I had hoped my percentage of keepers would be higher. When it nails focus the shots are amazing. However, there are many unusable due to poor focus. Im still experimenting with settings. Focus gets lost when birds fly in front of trees etc. Open air is usually spot on. I just downloaded my first images and noticed quite a bit of noise and CA, much more than my 6D, which surprised me as all the reviews said how great it handles higher ISO. So, I am tentatively excited and hope to work through the kinks.

I have been shooting with a Canon EOS 1DX since 2013. After a shutter replacement on the 1DX and over 500,000 shots I decided to try a mirrorless camera, the R6. I am now using the R6 all the time now. It is small, light and fast. I find it very easy to photograph insects because of its small size and focus peaking. I am still learning about the differences between mechanical and electronic shutter. I love this camera The only thing I dont like is battery life but that is to be expected since a mirrorless camera is more dependent on battery power. I just have to carry an extra battery. Highly recommended

I rented the R6 for a weekend and never went back. I still use my 5DMK4 but the features of the R6 have simply gone beyond my expectations. I ordered the camera from BH along with its battery grip and…what a combo. I have tested all of my EF L lenses with the EFR adapter and they all work like a charm with excellent results. Last but not least, I thought the 20MP sensor was going to be the only draw back…negative…no issues at all. Tack sharp images with the superb focusing system and eye tracking feature.I simply love the EOS R6.

Ive been wanting to upgrade from my Rebel T4i for a while. With constantly changing technology, I was waiting for Canon to release a refined mirror less offering. The R6 was just the ticket I was a little hesitant with the 20mp, but Ive had no issues even when cropping. Focus and sharpness is superb. I debated for a while between the kit lens 24105 f4 or the 2470 f2.8. After having used the 24105 for a few weeks, I feel I made the right choice. As a hobbyist photographer the f4 if plenty for me. This was a huge upgrade from my previous setup and have been VERY happy thus far

My review is from the perspective of a photographer who at times will need to capture video. Ill address the elephant in the room immediately if youre looking at the R6 for mostly video work, its not the right camera. Yes, it captures 4K60, but theres a 30 minute run limit, 4K60 can cause the camera to overheat, and to get another 30 minute run time you need to let the camera cool off for a pretty long time. However, if run times are shorter, or you will use 4K at 24fps primarily, andor switching back and forth between video and stills, youll probably be fine and I have not had an issue. For what I do, with run times at 7 to 10 minutes in length on average it does fine and I havent even seen an overheating warning. My biggest complaint when it comes to video is the rolling shutter and without a BSI sensor, this will happen due to sensor readout speeds, so you have to be careful with panningmoving shots. Looking into the future, Canon probably develops a BSI or BSIlike sensor for newer models. Also, rolling shutter isnt horrible, but its noticeable if youre not careful. For stills, this camera is amazing. Ill break this down in sections… it wont be short, but hopefully itll be helpful.Ergonomics Build It has the Canon quality with a robust build. Even though its a polycarbonate shell, it feels durable with some heft, not cheap and plasticky. The size is comparable to a APSC DSLR, the grip fits well into the hand, the button layout makes sense and has some customizability. I also shoot with another brand and I have the camera buttons and dials mapped out almost identically. Its winter so I havent used it in rain yet, but in snow no issues with snow melting all over the camera. At its price point, I wouldnt take it into a massive downpour, why Its an enthusiastlevel camera, and the average R6 user probably wouldnt be out in those conditions this is a completely anecdotal assumption though. However, I heard the level of weather sealing is the same amount as the EOS R and EOS 6D which is less than the R5. Therefore my assumption is probably right. The joystick is back, but doesnt do much more than move the AF point, but by default it does nothing so turn it on in the menus even though it should be on by default. The rate button is there and you can assign what stars you rate an image I use 3 5 stars for likelove, and it bakes into the exif data and will appear in most raw editors when you import. I do wish video was next to or closer to the manual mode on the mode dial or even better, a simple switch to go from stills to video.EVF Its good, again for the price point, its what youd expect nothing more, nothing less. If you need to capture fast motion you can also up the EVF to 120fps. For those who havent used mirrorless extensively, 120fps does help with the transition from OVF to EVF. If you wear polarized glasses, you might have issues, as I cant wear my sunglasses that are polarized, but thats physics, and not the fault of Canon.Menus I have used and do own other brands of mirrorless, this is by far the best menu system. While you will get used to any menu system, this is one of the few that Ive had to look up very little to find features. There is a Q or Quick menu button that I wish could be customized, but it cant so youll have to setup your My MenuImage Quality Dynamic Range 20MP is more than enough for most, but I do feel the precedent is being set by other manufacturers that 2428MP is the standard being set for this price level. The RAW files have great detail both RAW and CRAW, and JPEGs have good colors that I have no problems using for proofing and for some jobs delivering. However, I also shoot another brand thats the gold standard for film simulations, and I hope Canon gives us some software to easily create Picture Styles. Dynamic Range this is where I used to think Canon was relatively weak, but not anymore when youre using the mechanical shutter. In first curtain electronic shutter FCES and ES, you can notice a degradation in quality of the RAW file. If you use the Low ISO ISO 50 it will also degrade the raw some too, as going below the native ISO is done artificially. Shadow recovery is good, but not great. I still expose to the right if Im in really challenging situations.AF if its not the best, its close to the best even in low light. I have yet to find an instance where I cant trust the AF and EyeAF. But just in case, Ive mapped a button to be able to put the camera in single point with a simple click, and when I go into manual focus I can rely on the MF tools.IBIS It works, and I can handhold at slower exposure times and get a sharp image, but do know its not a fixall and you do have to shoot a small burst of images. For video, where youre stationary, it does a great job too. However, I will say maximizing its ability and sharpness of your photos has more to do with your skills than the ability of the cameras IBIS.Battery Life the CIPA rating is under the most challenging situations, and even in cold weather, I had no problems getting 1000 photos in cold weather without having to swap out the battery. When I wrapped up the shoot, I was down to 1 bar of battery remaining. When I turned on the camera the next day I was back up to 2 bars of battery, which shows what 25 degree F weather does to battery life. However, this exceeded expectations. Why did I rate it 4 out of 5 stars Because I couldnt rate it 4.5 stars. Its a great photography camera, but is it that much better than others that have released in the last couple years at the same price or cheaper, probably not. I think this camera should have been released at the 22002300 price point, or at a minimum bundled the basic EFRF adapter with the camera at its current price point. Other influencing factors, is definitely rolling shutter, lack of a switch to easily go between stills and video for hybrid users, AF in video isnt perfect especially with tracking subjects, and 1080p120 isnt great but is usable. As you can see my complaints are with video. But I didnt downgrade the rating of the camera because this was never touted at the superior hybrid camera and at least to me was billed as a stills camera that can do video. However, Im also in the camp of, dont put features on a product thats an after thought, and I feel video was a little bit of an after thought. This camera is definitely not for video intensive creatives, but it is good enough for video as long as it fits your work flow. As for stills, probably the best around in the sub 30MP mirrorless category.

The auto focusing tracking with animal eye detection works great. I took shots of several dogs at a recent agility event and the camera did a good job of following the subjects through weave poles and jumping over obstacles. The R6 does an excellent job of addressing the limitations that my RP has, i.e., much more robust battery life, faster high speed shutter capability, and the dual card feature for recording images. So far, I am really pleased with the R6 and only wish I had upgraded a little sooner.

I have to say it hurts to write this review. Ive done plenty of photos around the house, some video and finally got a chance to do 2 photoshoots. Meh at best. The short version is, get an EOS R, and a Canon M6 MKII for the same cost. You would have a better 4K experience with the M6 for video, and sharper images for photos.Granted this camera is very nice But for 2500, its not worth the price. Surprisingly my favorite part of the purchase is the cheap lens that came with the package, its small and light and a joy to pair with either body. What do you miss with the EOS R that you get with the R6Photo Pros Faster Eye AF but still misses Dynamic range 12 FPS IBISPhoto Cons 13 fewer megapixels softer when cropping HORRIBLE white balance hopefully its fixed with firmware Battery life this may just be perception but seems to be worseVideo Pros Full Frame 4k with caveat EyeAF even when subject is small in frame IBIS very good, but I wouldnt use it while walking, great for hand held stuffCons all ones youve heard before Over heating I know the YouTube said 1.1.1 fixed this but kind of.. question mark White Balance this one is the most disappointing… Its just bad, the solution of shooting log bring up the next issue… transcoding needed h265 files Eventually this will go away but until I get an m1 Mac or Canon releases a firmware that uses a different CODEC this is a painNow again, I have all these complaints as a Canon fanboy, I look for reasons to buy more Canon gear, after being burned by Sony a6300 grrrr Id never try them again. But this Canon R6 is going to leave a bad taste in the mouth for people new to Canon. I do think most issues can be solved with1. firmware2. slight price dropIf not just get a canon m6 MKII the unspoken of beast in Canons line up and the EOS R..another GREAT camera for the price.

I have used the Canon eco system for many years. My go to camera has been my Canon 1DX, and my secondary camera has been the Canon 7d Mark ii. I was hesitant after purchasing the Canon RP when it came out. Although the quality was good, the lag time was a deal breaker for the RP and I sold it. I do a lot of high school sports and I need the camera to be able to keep up with the action. After seeing the reviews for the R6, I was intrigued. The Canon R6 has performed spectacular. I have now done 3 high school games at night time with varying lighting from good to bad, yet this camera gets the job done. My keeper rate has also gone up. The only problem with that is a good problem you have more pictures to cull through. Another big positive for me is that its much lighter than the 1DX. I didnt know if I would like that, but I think this is the future. I will say that I am also using all EF lenses at this point. I have thus far used the Canon 300mm F 2.8 L with IS, the Canon 70200 L f2.8 II L , and a Canon 500mm f4 L with IS. Although I havent really used the eye detection I will when I start doing sports that do not have face masks. When I did use the eye detection for sidelines shots of the coaches, it was amazing I am still learning about this camera and have much more to learn, but this is everything I envisioned for a mirrorless camera. Cant wait to use it for birds in flight. I also think its going to be much more conducive for general travel photography because it is lighter. I am waiting for now to purchase RF lenses , but have no doubt that coupled with the in camera stabilization it will just be incredible. What a great camera Canon, and thank you BH for having the best prices and quality equipment for my photography needs.

I waited on making this purchase for some time as a timid buyer, but I very much wish I would have made it sooner. This camera is everything that Id hoped for and expected, and the process of ordering it was flawless and smooth through BH.Upgrading from an older body, the technology in the R6 is very helpful in increasing my keeper rate and the controls were familiar enough that I was able to learn them through just a bit of practice.I was also pleasantly surprised to realize that the camera will autofocus with both of my extenders on at f8, and it works incredibly well with my adapter to each of my EF lenses. Im thrilled to continue to learn and grow as a photographer with this camera as my goto gear.

Long story but I swear theres a point I fell in love with a 5Diii many years ago, as it felt like a part of my hand and I could navigate the functions I needed without using my left hand or even looking at the camera. As that camera aged I bought an EOS RP then an EOS R and found both cameras had a lot of frustrating issues, things like menu dives and two hands required to change simple things like focus methods, the auto focus tracking being overwhelmed even in great light if the image was under exposed or backlit, and image reviews showing up both in the viewfinder AND on the back screen, or else neither. When I borrowed an R5 I found that literally every complaint I had about the RP and R were solved all needed functions and settings can be changed instantly and intuitively with one hand without even looking at the camera, the focus works AMAZINGLY in any light, and I can get previews on the back screen without interrupting the viewfinder. I found that the R5 was overkill for me massive file sizes so I bought an R6 and have been thrilled with it. In fact the R6 has been blowing me away in the low light department, its phenomenal The R5 and R6 brought back that its like a part of my hand feeling that I had with my 5Diii all those years ago, theres no feature lists or spec sheets that can beat that feeling.I do have to note that the first R6 sent to me arrived with the joystick broken off. I was devastated to open the box and find the joystick just hanging out loose in the little foam bag. BH handled it quickly and easily, though. The second one has been perfect.

I was somewhat curious to see if the R6 was a good as the several reviews that I read. I was concerned about the electronic viewfinder because my attempts to go mirrorless with Sony and Olympus cameras came to an end because I did not like their electronic viewfinders, their resolutions were to low. I love the electronic viewfinder on the R6, the 20 fps in burst mode, the great AF with tracking, and I can switch between full frame and 1.6x cropped, which I do frequently using the touch screen. I can now replace my 7D Mark II and 5D Mark IV Canon cameras with a single R6. If I decide that I need more megapixels, I can go to the R5. I do have to turn off the touch screen occasionally because I have a tendency to accidentally touch it, but it takes only a second to return to touch. Great Canon camera at a low price. I found the 24105mm RF lens to be comparable to my 24105mm EF lens and lighter. In fact the R6 with the 24105mm RF lens is extremely lightweight. The ring adapter makes all of my EF lenses work as well as on the R6 as on the 7D Mark II and the 5D Mark IV.
Michael –
This camera is a joy to use. The layout is similar to the 5D series. The auto focus is indeed better than the 5D IV and is simple to use. Once you get past the EVF it is remarkably accurate and fast focusing. The auto exposure and white balance produce accurate and rich colors. I have not bought an RF glass yet but I can attest that the EF glass with the adapter work flawlessly. The battery complaint is legit due to the EVF and the rear screen. Buy the grip and an extra battery and you should be fine. Cant expound about video because I mainly use it as a camera for stills. The amount of Megapixels are fine. Think of the R6 as a baby 1DX Mark III but cheaper and smaller. This camera made my 5D IV my backup. For 1400 less than the R5 you get a good camera and joy to use.

Bought this camera a few weeks ago and love it so much already. I upgraded from an entry level 2011 Nikon d5100 so this was a huge step up for me The body is very sturdy and all of the buttons and functions have been super fun to explore. The touch screen is awesome as well. The camera shoots flawlessly, super quiet and fast Cant wait to take this on trips this summer
Caitlin –
Never been happier with a camera body. I shoot weddings full time and have been with Canon all the way from my 70D starter camera, to the 6D, Mark IIIs, and Mark IVs the R6 is by far the biggest leap forward in technology and usability. The insanely fast and accurate focusing system is probably my favorite aspect. I didnt think Id like the EVF but after a brief adjustment period I love it and the articulating touchscreen. And the fact that I can use all my favorite EF lenses and theyre sharper than ever is amazing. If youre thinking of making the switch from DSLR to mirrorless, do it Youll never look back.
Mark –
If you are looking for a cheaper R5 alternative, the R6 is a somewhat cheaper yet capable camera that will do most of what you ask of it. The fewer megapixels can be seen as an advantage in some situations especially when high resolution is not called for, and the cameras internals such as autofocus and face detect work as in the R5. The downside to this camera is that it is still not that cheap really, so its still very much a prosumer camera and not intro level for most people, and for that price, you would want to think about spending that extra mile to get the R5. For both the R5 and R6, the documentation is terrible and you are left wondering what many of the menu options do.
Jack –
The Canon R6 is my first fullframe mirrorless digital camera. To summarize in a word it is fantastic. I could not have made a better choice. I have been a loyal Canon shooter for many years and have never been disappointed with any of my Canon cameras. Prior to the R6, I was sold on the M6 MKll camera system in which I own all the various lenses. I have and use most frequently my 1.4 50mm lens. I recently did a sidebyside comparison between the two cameras and found that even though the R6 has fewer pixels it took sharper images than my trusted M6 MK ll. The weight difference between the two cameras is noticeable. But I continue to grab the R6. A great camera, period. Thanks, Canon and BH Photo who I purchased the camera through.

All manufacturers use different file extensions for their RAW files. Canons extension is .CR3. There are free software programs for PC and Macs that convert these various extension to .tiff and so forth that Photoshop and Lightroom can read. However, if your computer is more than four 4 years old, none of these conversion programs will work your computers operating system cannot be upgraded after a while, and you will not be able to work with RAW files until you get a newer computer. The camera is great. Just be aware.

I havent updated my camera in a long time. I was researching this purchase for the longest time before I made a decision. I tried hard to hold off till the rumored Canon EOS R1 was released, but I decided to get the R6. I am glad I decided on the more affordable R6 than the R5 because this camera is fantastic. I pushed this camera to the limits of processor power, and I wanted to see that DiGC X go to work. I am impressed with how will and quite this camera works. You get so much for this price point. Like I stated before, I am still saving for the rumored EOS R1, so that is the only reason why I didnt get the R5.The sharpness is just incredible for a 20 megapixel fullframe CMOS sensor. The tracking of people and animals using deep learning technology is on par with other market cameras. I havent tested it in sports yet, but I cant wait to see what it can do in the field. I used the camera on animals running and flying and got some great shots so far.I do not regret this purchase at all. I hope all who decide to go this enjoys. This economic route is a great choice compared to its big brother, the R5. Its a great camera to hold you over until the new R1 Flagship comes out this summer. Before I forget, this is an excellent professional camera and not just for photo enthusiasts.

I would have given the Canon R6 5 stars if Canon had not left out the top LCD display from this model. That feature is so valuable for quickly changing settings and it was on many of their previous, less expensive models. Now its gone to save cost and or to make space for other controls. The top mounted LCD display is included with the R5 model.I made the Canon R6 purchase mainly so I could make 4K video using my existing Canon EOS lenses with adaptor Overall, I love what the camera puts out for 4K video and photo quality. Autofocus is so vastly improved improved over my 7D body. I dont regret the purchase at all… and I use it to make money with both video and photos.I held off purchasing previous mirrorless models from Canon due mostly to reports of their 4K not being super sharp. The 4K video from the R6 is excellent and very sharp. This camera has so many new features theyll take a while to learn and master.

I returned to Canon after using another mirrorless brand. I had an older Canon DSLR and lenses before upgrading to this mirrorless. I was used to the idea of manipulating or developing my old images. I have found that this particular image processor does a much better job and after shot processing is more of adjusting crops and not color balancing. I went ahead and purchased the EF to R lens adapter too and my old EF lenses work great. You can operate the camera fully auto or any of the programmable modes. The kit lens is not bad either. But while you are at itget one of the F11 telephotoswow

I really wanted this camera for its fast focusing capabilities and it did not disappoint. Compared to my 5D IV bodies, it is much faster and can focus to the far edges in the viewfinder. The mechanical shutter is extremely quiet making it perfect for shooting in situations where you need to be unnoticed. Im glad it has the two card slots which is a must when shooting professionally. While I wish it had a larger sensor than 20 meg, I am very satisfied with the files coming off the camera. The 24105 lens is light weight and I find the image quality very acceptable for a kit lens. The control ring is perfect for instant access to F Stops, ISO or other functions.

Love the R6 Everyone is complaining about the 20MP sensor. All of my bodies 5DMIII, 7DMII all have been 20MP. The reason to buy this mirrorless body is everything else. IBIS, dual card slots, Full Frame sensor, no micro adjustments on EF lenses, and AUTO FOUCUS The autofocus is simply AMAZING. You will forget that its just 20MP. Autofocus alone is the main reason to get this body.

I love this camera. I do event photography and lifestyle and its amazing. the quality and use of the camera are very easy to learn.ONLY issue I have experienced was it overheated on 4k 24fps after using for 45 mins straight recording pastor in church but then i put it into 1080P 24fps and i could shoot all day long.if you shoot 4k 24fps in small clips here and there b roll it works greatThis is my hybrid camera so as I shoot video, I switch over to pictures, get a couple of shots, and back to taking video. Handels any job so far that Ive had it. I love it its perfect for what I do.I have it paired with a canon 2870 F2 its heavy but a beast amazing set up
Eric –
Im a passionate hobbyist that primarily shoots wildlife and long exposures. Im coming from a Canon 60D and the R6 almost feels like cheating its so good. The AF speed is fast, focus tracking is razor sharp, and the low light performance is far beyond what Ive been used to with the old 60D. Im using an adapter with my existing EF lenses and so far no issues.A feature that isnt too commonly discussed, but I was pleasantly surprised with was the ability to use my phone as a remote shutter, review photos, etc. I no longer have to use my old infrared remote, nor be in direct lineofsight of the cameras IR sensor.

I absolutely love this camera, I use it for everything now. I dont touch my 5d mark3 anymore. The auto eye focus for portraits is game changing. I cant say enough great things about this camera. Also with for the videos dudes, you now get Canon Log 3 with the latest update. Get this camera if you make money from it or now. The moments you will capture will amazing. Bruh, I have 11 year old EF lenses that feel brand new with the adapter sold separately.

Although less portable that many of my other cameras, I really wanted to get back in to photography. My last digital SLR camera was Canon 20d, so this is quite an upgrade, but feels very familiar. I love the handling. Images are as sharp as a knife at all speeds and apertures, but still working through all of options. Double memory card not essential for me but is a great backup. Only downside is the wifibluetooth. I had a hard time getting connections to work and currently have a call in to Canon tech support because I cannot upload images to the Canon cloud. First contact with support was not successful. Im looking forward to good travels with this camera

I went back and forth a lot between buying this versus R5. I am glad I bought R6. best allaround camera for the money, amazing performance. I am a serious hobby photographer since 2004 and went from 5D Mk III to this. The pixels are enough for any unless one wants to blow up pics so large or crop, where R5 would do better. I absolutely do not use the video portion of this. Can only recommend it.

Bought this body along with the 800mm lens. I was not sure about the lens, at f11 I had low expectations. I was WRONG First time out, heavy overcast, late in the day. Images were silhouetted using Auto ISO and capturing at ISO 12800. In post, I was able to recovery exposure with amazing detail and color This camera is out of this world I highly recommend this body. I have had this combo out four additional times since the maiden voyage, and it has performed flawlessly. This body outperforms my 1Dx Mk III. though they are rumored to have the same sensor and processor. I am extremely, and pleasantly happy with this camera. Way to go Canon I would give six or seven stars if available

While not as fullfeatured as the R5, the R6 is quite a massive upgrade from the R. Some may not enjoy the fact that it is only 20 MP, it is really more than enough. Moreover the very fast Continuous shooting modes leaves the R in the dust. It also, like the R5, has good IBIS and an improved Dual Pixel AF.Two things hold it back. One is that there is no ALLI video shooting which, while IPB yields smaller files, they are more difficult to edit. The another caveat is that you cannot assign video settings to any custom mode. But at least they have separated the video settings from the stills modes, thus, you cane have for example a different Picture Style for video which doesnt get changed when you switch to stills.Allinall, a not perfect but nearperfect camera..

Ive been wanting to upgrade my camera for years now and it was finally time. Switching to mirrorless was something I agonized over for a long time but in the end, Im glad I made the switch There are so many things about this that make it an upgrade 1 Having a setting that allows me to keep the shutter closed while the camera is off helps keep the inside clean when changing lenses. 2 The ability to literally touch the screen to pick where I want the focus and to also touch the screen to take the picture. Its so much faster than using the old button system to select a focus point. 3 The High ISO performance is greatI could go on and on about this but Im still learning all I can about it. No regrets about making the switch to mirrorless

I purchased the R6 body as a stop gap measure, while I wait for the R3 to become available. Many people overlook the R6s ability to capture great photos, concentrating more on the capabilities of the R5. I am so impressed with the R6s FPS, Ibis and eye focus tracking capabilities. I have mine mated to the RF 24105 F4L, a great all around combo and I was pleasantly surprised at the clarity of the photos. Cannot wait to explore all of its feature sets and was particularly impressed with the ability to assign custom functions to buttons and dials, especially the back button focus features. A very capable camera.

I looked at multiple cameras from Nikon, Sony, and Canon and I am really glad I chose the EOS R6 from Canon. It feels great in the hand, very well built. The image quality is great and the features are fantastic.I am not a professional but will be using this for businessconsulting purposes and I believe this will be a valuable tool for years to come.I bought the kit lens, it looks good but I am looking forward to exploring more lens options.

Fantastic Camera. Very Sharp and quality images produced by this camera. 20mp resolution is enough for the majority of people. FPS, IBIS, and the focusing system are topnotch. It is 1500 less than R5 which is 45mp. I love the picture quality even better than canon 5d mark iv. This camera has Image stabilization which helps people who have difficulty holding the camera still persons age like me. Very highquality product. After watching so many movies on youtube about the reviews finally end up buying this camera. If your concern is about movie making please watch youtube reviews. Good luck..

The dual card slot and the lightweight was the 1 reason why I made this switch to Mirrorless I mainly shoot weddings and my 6D was missing a lot of reception dancing shots. The Mark III was better but, was too heavy for my tendinitis. This R6 was perfect I follow Katlyn James on Youtube and she even raved about this camera. The 99 was the perfect pair for all my L lenses. No regrets at all

I have been a Canon user since the days of film cameras. Since I started photographing digitally, I have used the Canon Rebel XT, XTi, 7D, 7D II, 5D III and 5D IV and the R6 is the culmination of everything I wanted in a digital mirrorless camera. It focuses incredibly fast and accurately, has great dynamic range, it feels great in my hands, has dual memory card slots and inbody image stabilization IBIS.If, like me, you have several EF lenses, the fact that they work flawlessly with the EF to R adapter makes transitioning to the RF mount much easier. The RF 24105 f47.1 lens its quite nice for a kit lens. It has a nice smooth feel and is quite light. The only negative Ive found with the lens besides the fact that it needs a lot of light at the telephoto end is it struggles with eye focus in low light. That shouldnt be a big surprise because of f7.1 aperture at the long end it doesnt let in nearly as much light as my EF 2470 f2.8 II lens. The only thing I would have preferred in the R6 would have been a slightly higher resolution sensor. While 20 megapixels will work fine for most purposes, I would have preferred at least 24 megapixels.I waited patiently for Canon to produce a mirrorless camera that met my needs and my patience was rewarded with the R6 R5 cameras.

I have only had my Canon EOS R6 for one week, and it is amazing. I bought this camera for its main use, as a Photography camera, and have been blown away with the results. I have a heavy Film Production and Commercial production background, so all my cinema needs are met by more expensive camera systems. I grew up shooting Canon photo cameras, and in recent years used the Canon 5D series vs 14. I was debating heavily between the Canon R5 and R6, mostly because the 45 MegaPixels, but decided to roll the dice and try the R6 first, while I built out my RF Lens kit. And again, I stand by saying the R6 is amazing. At 20.1 Megapixels, and the better dynamic range, a well shot image can be blown up 300 before it starts breaking up. The EYE DETECT auto focus is insane, and the ergonomics of the controls on the back are very familiar if youve used any of the Canon high end DSLRs. The body is a bit smaller than a DSLR and fits in the hand nice. The RF lens are crisp and quick and have minimal distortion. The ABT crew was amazing in setting me up with a system I am in love with and a price that no one else could compete with. Its also important to add that I have been shooting on the same battery for the whole week. Not extremely heavy use each day, but it still has about 25 left on the first charge.

Ive been shooting with the R6 since October, 2020. Ive found it to be reliable and an outstanding piece of equipment. The settings take some navigating at first, but with the detailed manual save the pdf to your phone and YouTube, once you get it customized, its fantastic. Many seem concerned about the 20mp, debating on the R6 vs the R5 regarding the ability to crop. 20mp has been plenty for many, many years, and people need to keep in mind the computer power needed to process large batches of huge image files.Storage is another consideration. With the phenomenal AF in these cameras, you get a much higher keeper rate, resulting in the need for more storage, be it internal, external, or cloud. Another consideration when planning your next camera purchase, and another reason I love the R6s 20mp.As of the writing of this review 052421 Adobe still has not included color profiles for the R6 and R5 in its photography suite. Im hopeful it will be coming before the end of the year. Apples Big Sur 11.2.3 is not reading Canons native .CR3 thumbnails, but they do open in Quick View, and if you shoot dual in .RAW and .JPG, you get a thumbnail to view as a workaround. Hoping that will be addressed soon, as well. These are both very minor inconveniences that do not at all shadow my overall experience with this camera.

I had a Eos R and also own a 5dMark IV. The focus ability of this camera is great as well as the ability for use in a sport and wildlife scenario. Everyone says it has only 20 MPs but no one complains about that with the 1D series. This is a baby 1D level camera in a mirror less body. As far as the video goes if you use it for very long shots and are worried about the time limits or overheating issues then maybe a camcorder is what you need. It is very easy to use especially if you are a Canon shooter. If you dont need the R5 buy this camera, you will enjoy the features and performance.

Ive only been shooting with it for a few weeks. So far this is phenomenal. Ive d been shooting a lot of birds in flight, the hit rate with animal eye focus is incredible with the Tamron 150600 g2 attached.I debated for some time about weather or not 20mp would be enough. I have no issues with the 20mp, even cropped in there are no issues. I dont know that I would print a 50 crop but that is asking a lot.Low light stupid high ISO is amazing. Ive taken a few at 16000 plus that are usable.Ibis with lens stabilization, motion blur is something I barely have to consider at slower shutter speeds. One of the best features is how customizable the camera is. Just about every dial and button can be customized to do whatever you want so you can shoot the way you want.I still consider myself a rookie, and Im learning. This camera is making it fun to learn.

This is an awesome hybrid camera. The autofocus is next level from the R and RP. The tracking and eye detect for people and animals is something experience. The usable low light is amazing especially in video. The new firmeware has helped with the overheating issue. I so far have not had the overheating warning show yet for how I use the camera. If youre doing long interviews, I would get an external recorder or shoot in 1080p. Even though the video compression is IPB, Im able to push more with the R6 than R with alli. Picture quality wise compared to the EOS R, it would be tough to distinguish and do see some difference once you crop in like 200 or more. If you need the high megapixels for cropping or very detail shots or billboard sized pictures then I would go with the EOS R or something with more megapixels.

This is the typical Canon camera that I have been accustomed to. Touchscreen, IBIS, and menus implemented very nicely. VIDEO button in wrong place though and cannot remap RATE button. Excellent resolution and processing. This was the camera that if initially released R and RP would have been a Sony a7 III killer. Only problem is there is a premium in price. Glad to be back with Canon.

Please be aware that different camera manufacturers use different file names for their own version of RAW files. The Canon extension is .CR3. There are several free programs designed to convert these various extensions to RAW files you can then work with in Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom, etc. However, these programs do not work with older operating systems. Also, you cant upgrade your computers operating system after a while. So, I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that I need to buy a new computer in order to use my terrific Canon R6. By the way, my IMAC is only 4 years old and works perfectly. Such is life I suppose.

Dont be fooled into thinking youre missing out because it only has 20mp. 20mp is more than enough for any type of photography, sure it may limit cropping at times but it still gives plenty of resolution. For me personally, I really like this 20mp sensor its cheaper on storage and memory cards and it saves time when editing them, not to mention its dynamic range and high ISO are the best Ive seen. Now lets talk about combining the advantages of mirrorless with the autofocus of this camera and its a Game Changer. The focusing on this camera is simply outstanding. Once I learned how to use it my keeper rate for in focus shots has increased 100. Worrying if the eyes are in focus are a thing of the past for me, whether its a person eye or even an animals eye.The reason for 4 stars is because the I had to return my first R6. It had totally just locked up and Canon had no solution other than sending it in for repair or exchanging it. I chose to exchange which is one or the main reasons I exclusively buy from B H. Props to B H.

What can I say Im an enthusiast and the majority of my photography tends to be wildlife. Coming from a d7100 to this model has been a leap ahead of what I had in terms of autofocus speed, FPS, lowlight performance and so much more. The animal eye tracking is really like a cheat code for wildlife work and it constantly gets crisp shots focused on the eye. The IS is likewise amazing. I took a walk on the local park during bonfire evening to shoot some fireworks and using the canon RF 35mm f1.8 was getting crisp clear shots with shutter times of 2s. Personally its everything I hoped it would be and more. If I was being picky, not being able to override autofocus with the manual focus ring on the RF lenses is a little frustrating, maybe thats a setting I can change Ive not noticed yet. Not having this means that it can be difficult to focus on a bird in the sky. Previously I would get the focus in the right range with manual and then lock on with autofocus. Ive not figured how to do that on the R6 and it is a frustration at times when you miss that shot. Another slight gripe is after playing around with the app and taking some shots at my bird feeder remotely. Is that the lag between the camera and phone is ridiculous when you take a shot or two. I had initially hoped I could control the camera via the phone as if I was at the camera controls. Unfortunately you can do that until you take a shot and then everything slows up. I guess the camera processor cannot handle the streaming and all during operation so deprioritises the streaming. Youll get some decent shots like that but a huge amount of duds also due to the lag, it also seems to lose struggle focusing at times when you are using it this way and shooting. I found its somewhat workable if you fire a shot or two rather than any kind of continuous shooting. Anyhow I dont really consider these to be deal breakers for me. Im sure I can probably set a button to switch between manual and auto focus on the camera to fix that issue. And I think a cable release might be a better solution for what Im currently using the remote app to do. I really am blown away by the capabilities of this camera and Ive hardly put it down since I received it.

Pros1. Immensely improved autofocus system over the R. This alone warrants the extra cost2. Image stabilization is a life saver, giving new life to old nonIS lenses3. Knobologyergonomics is so awesome4. Very sexy and quiet shutter soundCons1. 30megapixel would have been much better. Personally I can live with 20. But I can see why some would rather pay extra to get r5.2. Cant think of more cons

Switched from the 6D to this camera, I was on the fence for a while. Somehow managed to score one and I am so happy with this camera. The auto eye focus itself is a game changer. The image quality is truly remarkable. Easily could be a pro camera for the experienced photographers out there. I was worried about the 20MP , but upon much research and actually using this camera. It is ENOUGH. trust me. Digit X processor. Same as the 1DX mark iii. Such a great camera. Great investment

I moved up to the R6 from the 6D and so glad I did. I was a little apprehensive about moving to an EVF from an optical view finder, but found the EVF a revelation. I shoot mainly wildlife with my Canon 100400mm mkii and found the eye focus tracking spot on. The House Sparrow image below is shot with the 100 400, a Canon 1.4x extender and a third party adapter still waiting for the official Canon one. I have also tried the Sigma 150 600mm Contemporary and that works well too, just need the weather to improve a little more. I used to shoot wildlife with my 7D mkii, but it now looks like that might be consigned to my backup as I am getting far more keepers with my long lenses, even with tc attached. No more microfocus adjustments to get focus spot on. Very impressed with the camera so far. The focus stacking ability is also great for macro, see the dragon fly exuvia below.

As a small time product photographer, most of my images get slashed and hacked into pieces by our teams designers. The R6 may not have the highest count megapixels but it makes for a manageable file size for our team. Its comfortable, easy to use, and the custom profiles on the dial make it a simpler to go from the studio to outside with my kids. A huge upgrade from my M50 and trio of Sigma lenses, the R6 with the 24105 L lens was the perfect stepping stone into full frame mirrorless. For my needs as a hobbyist and amateur but paid product photog, the R6 and L kit lens are fantastic.

coming from the canon EOS R, this camera feels like a huge leap forward. The eye tracking system is amazing and the low light high iso is unbelievable. A true gem for portrait shooters.20mp you cant even tell the difference between this and the 30mp canon eos R. Currently i use all EF lenses and the ef to rf adapter. Speed, tracking or focusing has not been an issue at all, the communication between the ef lenses, adapter and body is top notch. Definitely worth every penny spent. I tested eye tracking on a child tossing leaves and it stayed locked on the eye the entire time.
Roberto –
I also have an R5 and I use this as the secondary body. In photos, it leaves nothing to be desired. The autofocus is a real pleasure to play with, and all improvements of the R5 are here. I like the 20 MP it forces you to compose the final image incamera a little bit like when using primes. Its good for video too. The only disappointment is the overheating on 4k 60 with an external recorder.

I usually roll my eyes when people call something a game changer, but this camera truly is. Much of what this camera does has been enjoyed by Sony users for awhile now, and Im sure they get a laugh out of Canon users getting giddy over mirror less. My primary use is nature still photography, and this camera excels. Having focus points across the entire viewfinder is huge. No more focus and recompose. No more focusing on something close to the plane of the head because the head is outside the area of focus points. The animal eye focus works great in many, but not all situations. I switch between animal tracking focus and single point focus as need be. Switching on the fly is easy. When you move to this camera, its important to use it as a mirror less camera, and not try to fit it into your old methods. For example, I dont use back button focus on this camera. I use the R6 mostly with the adapted 100400 lens, but have had it on the 500 and 600. The EFRF adapter works like a charm. My second generation 100400 and 600 use all of the focus points of the R6. The older first generation 500 IS uses fewer, but still coverers way more area than the focus points on a dSLR. I highly recommend this camera. It makes my 1DX seem like a dinosaur.Do be sure to have an extra battery. I chose to not buy the battery grip because I want to keep it small.

I do not believe that there are any bad cameras today, so choosing the right camera for MY needs is, in more important than choosing the best specced camera.I am a wildlife photographer based in South Africa and most of my images have been shot with a 600mm f4 lens and a 200400 f4.So far, from the 40000 action images I have shot with the R6, here are some of the things that have impressed me most The autofocus is the best I have used to date this camera is useable with a 600mm and 2x converter, even for some birds in flight. Burst rates of 10 infocus images are not uncommon usually, 5 is about the best I can manage and I have a few bursts of up to 24 images. My meanaverage ISO over the last 40000 images is 5000 and I mostly used the range of 1600 to 10000. Good ISO performance is more important to me than high megapixels, so the drop to 20 Mpixels from the 30 Mpixel R I had before is not a drawback at all. I was shooting a lot of fast birds beeeaters and swallows and my mean shutterspeed was 13200 s, with very little being shot below 11600s, hence the need for high ISO. The images have been very pleasing indeed.Rolling shutter is greatly improved over the R. All round, this camera is a big improvement over the R and RP, both of which I have used extensively. For me, the R6 has been a gamechanger. Thank you, Canon.

I really like this camera except for the two joysticks That you have to use in order to go up and down on the menus when my older camera had arrows that were much easier to use. I am not able to shoot in camera raw because my laptop does not recognize the raw files. I tried to use the software that would get it to work, but the software doesnt work on my laptop. I upgraded to Windows 10 which crashed my laptop. You could say that buying this camera set off a chain of events that could have been avoided if Canon made it so their new raw format would work on previous versions of Windows. Therefore in order to shoot in raw format, I have to buy a new laptop which is very discouraging. I have thought about returning it but that is not an option because Best Buy would charge a 420 restocking fee.

The Canon R was my first entry in Mirrorless a couple years ago and, while a capable camera, it had its shortcomings. All of those issues have been addressed for me in the R6. The most difficult decision was choosing between the R6 and R5, my concern being the difference in resolution. After having had some quality time with the R6, Im confident that the 20MP sensor is not a handicap. If anything, I see it as almost an advantage. I had the opportunity to compare the performance of the two cameras side by side, and for 90 of what I shoot, the R6 handles the job quite nicely.I am an enthusiast, with 50 years of photographic experience. I continue to shoot film on a variety of different systems, including Leica, Nikon Canon, both their reflex as well as rangefinder systems. The adaptability of all of that glass is one of the features I most love about the Canon mirrorless cameras. I found that the R5 sensor was not kind to most of the vintage glass, while the R6 seemed to hit the sweet spot.My photography is primarily people centric, after a lifetime of realizing its the people I am most interested in looking back on. Landscapes are beautiful, but after tens of thousands of captured sunsets and vistas, I still treasure the photographs of people the most. The improvement in focusing tech is exponential over the previous first swing and the smoothness of operation is significantly better.I have several favorite lenses in the Canon stable, one of which is the EF501.0L. Its performance on the R6 is extraordinary and the pair has become my favorite goto run and gun setup. The image quality is exceptional, Canon color science still being the best reason for shooting Canon over its competitors. Consistency in exposure and white balance from shot to shot is the best Ive seen to date.I will shoot video with the camera, but 4K will be all the res I need for some time to come. Deliverables will never likely be greater than HD. My printing days are pretty much behind me and I dont foresee printing anything bigger than 11 x 14, well within the capability of the R6, so the advantages of a lower light sensitive sensor outweigh any resolution issues that I might have. For me, the wins are the AF improvements, better than even my 1DXII, the low light performance, the dual memory slots, the analog control dial and the smaller, lighter form factor. The camera feels better in my hands than any camera made in the last 20 years. Mated to its 351.8, it is almost stealth. What remains of the photo industry in its dying days is all good. You cant buy a bad camera today and, in all cases, the technology remains a tool that is only as capable as the artist who wields it. Bottom line is that regardless of sensor performance or optical excellence, the photographer is still the key component and has the greatest control of the end product. You can be good with any camera on the market today but, for me, the R6 checked all the boxes. At least until the next generation

I switched from the classic workhorse Canon 5D Mark III and this R6 is beyond words in terms of its focusing and low light capabilities. Ive been a photographer for 4 years and have spent many hours editing photos with some over exposed and some underexposed. I have never seen such forgiveness dynamic range with the 5DM3 or any other camera Ive used in the past compared to the R6. This camera has taken shots that I thought I blew out or way underexposed and made them look amazing after LR corrections. I dont have many of those way under or way over but when I do, this camera has saved my behind beyond belief Now for the details and sharpness just wow I love my 5DM3 but man o man does this R6 show detail that is a few steps above. My photos just look tight. The focusing has a lot to do with it. The focusing system just nails it and during a recent event I brought my 5DM3 as my 2nd camera and when I was focusing it felt like I was using a dinosaur of a camera with the struggle it experienced to grab focus. The R6 has so many customizable options to help with focus that I rarely ever miss now. I went from maybe 10 out of focus on a shoot to less than 2 easily. That may not seem like much but Ive shot over 3000 shots in weddings many times and with that amount the out of focus can really matter There is a getting to know it period to switch from the DSLR to the Mirrorless but you have to invest that time to really get the best out of the R6. Oh, and if anyone is worried about the lower megapixels compared to the R5 or even the 5DM3, put that out of your mind. The files are so jammed packed with data that even with the lower megapixels you wont see any loss in resolution for 95 of what most of us do. I think this is truly a case of quality for quantity. I even read somewhere that the dynamic range on this baby is even better in low light than the R5 due to the fact that the megapixels are lower on the R6. Thats all I need to know. Why would I want more megapixels for it to give me less low light capabilities I wouldnt With my work shooting weddings, Quinceaeras, and Sweet 16 events, I need as much low light dynamic range as I can get. With the R6, I am supremely happy Very happy

Ive had experience with mirrorless cameras I own an Olympus OMD EM5II, and had a Canon EOS M50 which I sold just as this was announced. Never really felt the digital viewfinder was the equal of a DSLR until now. This feels like a DSLR only smaller and without any real restrictions.Have not had a chance to really test the in body stabilization yet. Only gripe is the 30 minute recording limit cmon Canon this is insane why have 2 card slots if you are going to do this.Bought the 24105 L despite having 2 of the full size ones because its always cheaper in the package. The size savings are amazing. Also love that it has a lock on it. Super sharp.Ill be buying the battery grip although, hopefully an aftermarket one, since the Canon one is crazy expensive and was backordered. Ive had good luck with the BH Vello brand grips on my Canon 7DMKII which I also sold.Every still Ive taken just felt wonderful. The Canon controls match what Im used to and the touch screen is insanely useful like on my 6D MK II which Im keeping.Waiting for the replacement to the C100MKII to have the same feature set as camera and Ill be in heaven. As you can guess, Ive had a lot of cameras. This has been my absolute favorite so far.

Best Canon Camera I have owned yet. Traded in my Canon 1DX for the R6 and have not regretted it one day. The focus is incredibly fast and the eye tracking for sports is a game changer. I was able to keep all of my Canon glass and use the R6 with the Canon adapter. They all auto focus without a problem and the crop option in camera extends all of my lenses which is a huge bonus. If youre on the fence and you have an opportunity to get this camera do it. you wont regret it

Ive only had the camera a week or so and still have some more in depth testing to do. But my first thoughts are wow this camera is amazing. I shoot lots of low light concert photos and I can already tell this camera is going to take my game up a few levels. It is a major investment and not one I would recommend for someone just getting in to the craft but this camera is fantastic for the enthusiast photographervloggervideographer. And as you can see by my photos so far my tests have mainly been at home but I see tons of potential

Mirrorless, where have you been all my life I always thought I would hate mirrorless and the electronic viewfinder, but OMG it is SO, SO good The EVF picture is so crisp and bright, resolution so high, does not looks like youre looking at a screen. Except for the game changer, being able to see all kinds of info on the screen, such as shooting params, electronic viewfinder, LIVE HISTOGRAM, and you see the shot that you will actually capture with DoF and all. Also, the focus system on this is amazing, love being able to use the lcd as a track pad to quickly position the focus point on exactly what you want. And, the AI faceeye detection for people and animals is absolutely amazing. Putting it in Servo mode focus which was mostly terrible on 6D and face detection, I can capture crisp, sharp images of my kids moving all over the place that I could never get before. So happy with this camera

I have been photographing weddings with the 5D series since they came out. I worked the last few years with two 5Div bodies and various lenses and was really happy. I switched to the EOSR and it was great, but the R6 is just way ahead. It feels like the 5Div in many ways and I love having a joystick for single point focus speed. Im happy with 20 megapixels for weddings and so far after three weddings with two R6 bodies Im hooked. I use the 2870 f2 on one body and the RF 85 1.2 and RF 70200 2.8 swapping on the other and that covers most of the day. Its just so freaky fast. Even low light receptions the focus locks and tracks. The face detect is way ahead of the R and I enjoyed the R. Having the joystick for single point focus control at receptions is just awesome. Its amazing for kids photography when they are darting around too.

I am still getting used to all of the options and settings. Went to the central CA coast last week and shot both video and stills. The video came out very well although I use another Canon video camera for my video shoots. The stills came out perfect. The pic I uploaded is one that I took at Pigeon Point Light Station, Pescadero, CA. I am very satisfied with this camera.

I upgraded my EOS R to this, and it is hands down the best camera I have ever used for my needs. I do mainly wedding films, and this handles all day shooting with no issues at all. I havent put it through the ringer yet, but all day shooting for a wedding wasnt an issue at all. The image quality is amazing, especially having internal 10bit. I use the Panasonic GH5 and GH5s as well for their internal 10bit capabilities, but having the DPAFII on this is a game changer

My son cut his teeth on a Canon 6D Mark II and used it constantly for almost 3 yrs. He then tried a couple other models of the Canon and finally settled on the Canon R6. Its everything he loved about the 6D only perfected The only thing he does not like is that he cannot save video settings to custom profiles. He uses the Canon R6 for both video and photography and hopes to travel several places this year capturing the experience in both formats.

Bought this as a hoped for upgrade to my previous Canons 20D, 7D, 5Diii now 12 year old tec. Had a variety of Ef lenses so bought the adapter rather than springing for the RF and quite expensive ones. I also have an old 2x offbrand teleconverter I rarely used because the autofocus never worked with my previous camera bodies. Also own a 400EX flash gun, Kenko extension tubes and a Yongnuo setup to handle off camera flash. Much to my surprise and delight, they all work. The teleconverter now provides autofocus for my 70200 f4 L non IS but in body IS takes over nicely lens, though not the Sigma 140500. The handgrip doesnt fit smaller body than the 5D and my remote shutter releases dont fit the socket why Lord why change the connection. However, the Yongnuo can be attached to the camera to act as a remote release and it works. The manual says that the rc6 is compatible but other sources, including Canons own, doesnt list it as a compatible camera. Hmmmm. No cable to connect the camera to my computer is provided. Why is that left out In theory, I could connect using bluetooth. I prefer to use my card reader instead.I have only had the camera for about 10 days and havent had a chance to test it in all or even my preferred conditions. So far, image quality is very good, with high ISO images cleaning up quite nicely in Lightroom. My landscapes seem to need a bit more work than my 5D ones did, but that could be due to my changing notions about appearance and the lighting conditions I have had.I have never been one to test the various autofocus options available on my previous cameras. The controls on the r6 are much easier to find and work very well. My backyard songbirds seem to have a higher hit rate using the eye detect animal, servo, high ISO and shutter priority set 1500 second. This combination, esp with a tripod mount, might not be that different from what I would have gotten with my previous setup but I am satisfied, even it I am simply experiencing a placebo effect.Controls seem well organized, but it has taken me some effort to find them and learn to use them. After taking on that learning curve, I am pleased they seem actually simpler.Sample images are all worked over in Lightroom, not straight out of the camera Im an intermediate skilled photographer and Lightroom user. Your mileage may differ.

Bought the R6 as my bridge camera changing over to Canon mirrorless. Moving over to mirrorless has been a joy. Great dynamic range, super color fidelity etc. Its a real joy to see your results. I almost only have high end Rlenses and they work so very well with this body Fast and accurate AF, wide AF coverage, low noise at high iso settings, lots of fps, WYSIWYG viewfinder, efficient eyeAF and inbody stabilization Canon thank you for finally giving us these two big wins and touch screen. Such a long list of really useful improvements from Canon DSLRs that it has to be experienced to appreciate. Will all this help you get better shots yes Especially eyeAF will land you more portrait and animal keepers than ever before and inbody IS will help you to shoot at lower speeds than before. I like MPIX a lot and I used to shoot the 5DSR with more than twice as many pixels. However, the excellent sensor quality does compensate a lot for the missing pixels. When I sometimes need more than 20 MPIX I use software Gigapixel AI to upscale my pictures. Works great for my subjects YMMV so test first if important to you. There are great customization options but expect using some time learning how to optimize the camera to your exact use case. Less impressive is battery life and the cost of extra batteries. Battery life is not horrible, but I strongly recommend at least one spare. And if you do a lot of fast action shooting you will need several expensive original batteries as the camera slows down with the old batteries or when the new ones drop their charge. Build quality is as expected, its not a Dxmodel, but neither is the price. To me it feels and looks good for the price. Have no comments on video as I only take little. It does more than I will ever use and even has a nice slowmo setting. A fast SD card or two are good to get. I use two fast 258 GB SONY cards. SD cards are relatively cheap and these two hold thousands of 20 MPIX RAW shots each. As a nice aside you can transfer pictures fast from the camera to your PC via cable again much better than before. Allinall I love using this camera. The reason I did not get the R5 is that I am waiting for the high MPIX R to come out as promised and the price up to the R5 is not negligible because you need an expensive memory card and a special card reader on top bringing the extra price to 1.7001.800 USD with the only real difference being the extra MPIX. With Covid limiting my shooting options I did not feel it was worth the investment. I however do want my pixels back but for now I remain very impressed with this great Canon mirrorless camera that does so much so very well. Highly recommended

I like the focusing system, works great for wildlife, also scenery. I have the battery grip, so I have no issues with batteries running low.The EF lens work well on the R6 body although, I am switching to RF lens as they become available for my needs. This is my 2nd R6 body, So far no problems, with either body. I have the 800mm lens, and the 100500mm lens, both work surprising well, good quick auto focus, very sharp images, of various wildlife.

I have used every iteration of the Canon 5D lineup, along with the Canon R and, with each successive release, I have noticed only a slight bump in lowlight noise performance and dynamic range. Comparatively, the Canon R6 leaps forward in both areas. Night images captured at ISO 12800 are relativelyclean and usable with no filter, and image histograms are more amenable to manipulation without destroying details. The camera also improves upon the alreadyexcellent AF of the Canon R, but the change here is not as noticeable. I look forward to getting many, many awesome shots with this

I was looking to getting the R5 but got the R6 instead when it became available in stock. And I am really impressed. I have read tons of reviews online about the R5 and R6 but when you actually get your hands on it that you see what a beauty Canon has created. All settings are really just a quick access away, even better now then the already really good RP. Canon has expanded the use of the lens control ring and now I can change the WB using it. Changing the ISO is also as easy as rotating a dial directly. More than a year ago, when I reviewed the 2870, I mentioned about that for this system to be perfect for me, Canon would need to add a camera with IBIS, faster FPS, and better video, and now I finally have it Having 4 kids and a dog, the autofocus on this camera is really proving to be spectacular, both when doing stills and video. Having all these features now in a full frame body, I dont see me using the GH5 that much, and can concentrate now on just having one system. Competition is fierce, but for me Canon just have the better lenses, period The small size of the 70200, the unique primereplacer 2870, and even the kit lens 24105 are really a delight to use and produce outstanding images. Well done CanonJust a separate thing to be aware of I have always bought online from BH and have it delivered to my work place, where there was always somebody handling the mail. This time though, because of the pandemic, I had it shipped to home. I did not plan on leaving the house until the package arrived. Heard the Fedex guy rang the bell but, to my absolute horror, by the time I opened the door he was already leaving on his truck and my package was just left outside by the door. I thought a signature would be required. Just the thought of leaving a package outside so anybody could steal gave me the creeps. But this baby is safe at home with me now.

I have taken a few years off from photography, and just got back into it, started with the 90D which is a great camera, and stepped up to this. Feels great in the hand, and the quality of pictures have an amazing feelquality. Not totally convinced about the animal eye AF, but still learning the system. What I was excited to find is that you can change this over to a crop sensor camera as well, to give you a little boost in the telephoto abilities of it. Great piece to invest into.

I am a wedding videographer and was very exited to upgrade my camera to the R6. The quality of the videos is beyond what I expected, and I am in love with the Low Light performance.But…. the camera overheated on my second wedding I was outside, waiting for the Ceremony to start and have to make camera changes before the bride entered. Really mad about this. And it wasnt even on 4K. I gave it a second chance, and it overheated again, on my 4th wedding, this time at night, during Speeches. Thinking of returning it.

I have started doing more work that requires better low light performance but this camera shines in every situation.Ive shot in studio, on location, and recently spent an entire day shooting outside over 1300 images it never missed a beat and the battery life was great. The video performance, for me, is incredible. I am not a cinematographer but do like to do highlights for some of my shoots. This gives me incredible results right out of the camera.

This camera has extremely good image quality. Images are sharp and crisp. If youre worried about the megapixel count dont be 20.1 megapixels is more than enough and the eye auto tracking is second to none I havent missed a shot yet. The dual SD card a very nice add and of course the IBIZ is fantastic. I have a few RF lens and my EF lens work perfect and in some case better than they did with my DSLR.

I upgraded from a Canon 70D and wanted to get the best full frame camera that does well in low light but does not break the bank. This camera is a winner.Using the Sigma ART 35mm f1.4 lens Its taken impressive pictures. The IBIS works well with the old Signa EF glass and the EFRF adapter. I did have to disable lens aberration correction but thats not an issue specific to the R6.The video quality is the best 4K Ive recorded and viewed. I shot some birthday 4k60p clips. My 27 4K monitor which usually is very picky with video and image quality shows the video in sharp vivid detail. The colors are also great and the white balance controls excellent for getting a custom color look out of camera. The auto focus system is excellent and high shooting speeds can still render sharp continuous frames.Im a casual videophoto shooter and so havent been impacted by overheating.Other features like the built in intervalometer, excellent eye tracking clean signal out option make this camera a worthy upgrade for enthusiasts to professionals. This one is a winner.

As a 5050 photovideo hybrid shooter, this camera checks all the boxes for me. Coming from 5Dmk4, I see a significant quality difference in 10bit video as opposed to 8bit. On the photo side, I sacrificed 10mpixels, but if thats what it takes to get full frame 4k without crop, Ill take it.One thing to note when using EF lenses via the adapter, it doesnt do distortion correction in camera. Its not a problem in photo, but it could be in video. Also IBIS is supported in only select lenses when using EF lenses.

As a former Nikon film and DSLR user, I have been more than impressed with my new R6 camera. When I started watching the videos and reading the reviews about this camera, I knew it was time to ditch my Nikon cameras and lenses in order to make the switch. Once I started using the R6, its all true the ease of use, the focus tracking, the eye detection, 12 frames per second mechanical and 20 frames per second electronic shuttter speeds are amazing. And the RF lenses are fantastic. The IS, fast focusing and USM are impressive.

The R6 provides me with the speed of Autofocus and shutter speed that I wanted for capturing pics of my grandkids. they tend to scoot fast. Shortly after getting the R6, we had a birthday party outside, with social distancing. Using the R6 paired with the RF24105L lens allowed me to grab tons of great images, from flying wrapping paper to bubbles in the air. BB was prompt with sending the camera to my home. A great upgrade from my prior Canon R

This camera is phenomenal. The IBIS absolutely assists in photo quality and a lot less shots being sent to the trash. Having moved up from the 90D, this was one of the main reasons I made the switch. The 60fps at 4K is great as well for capturing 4k and being able to slow it down in post production. The 20mp is not at all a concern as we are not printing billboards but with Adobe now having Super Resolution blowing up images without losing quality is easier than ever.

I come from the 1Dx series of bodies but this is my very first mirrorless body. I purchased it primarily because everything I had read told me that the eye tracking was so fast and accurate. I had gotten tired of passing on great shots of wildlife solely because the eyes were not in sharp focus.Once I got the camera set up and I figured out how it all worked, at least well enough to take some test shots, I went into the field to shoot some familiar subjects. I was immediately blown away by this bodys ability to pick out an eye, even in a busy and obscured scene, and stay on it. Ill have to do more testing but I think I can say that some people may be urged into going back to shutter button focusing after handling one of these.I was shooting a Canon 500mmf4 Series II in Tv mode and auto ISO. The eye is dead on. I could have done this with almost any body but the acquisition was almost immediate and it stayed on target, even when I panned around the scene. Focus and recompose will become a thing of the past in many situations as this camera focuses as you compose and does it well. No more moving your focus points around the screen, PLUS the focusing area covers almost the entire frameWhen shooting my very first subject, a great blue heron, the animal eye tracking found the eye and locked on it despite the presence of so many obstacles. All I had to do was point and focus. No selection of focus points or areas. The camera looked over the scene and picked out the most likely candidate for its target and it did it so much faster than I ever could have done. And as I panned around the scene, the focus remained locked on the eye. Not on the same plane, but on the actual eye. In another example not shown here, as the bird turned its head, moving the eye closer to and farther away from the camera, the focus stayed locked on the eye and adjusted for the small differences automatically.I purchased the R6 solely to be able to acquire focus lock on wildlife quickly and accurately. So far, the tests Ive done prove that it does that and does it better than I had expected. This is a game changer for me.
