I only wish Id gotten it sooner Ive owned this gem for about a month and its farexceeded my expectations. The sharpness, color, contrast and bokeh are stunning. a couple of examples attached The images from this lens look more like what Id expect from a prime lens. This lens has replaced my 24105L as my primary walkaround lens. On a FullFrame body I dont mind giving up some wider shots in exchange for the additional zoom and crisp images this lens gives me. Pair it up with a crop sensor and youve got an even more powerful zoom but you may find yourself having to continually back up to get the photo you want. This lens a 5dMKIII with battery grip starts to get pretty heavy. Think about getting a good monopod to help out with that. Note that the tripodmonopod mounts to an included bracket on the lens barrel to reduce strain on the camera. Something to keep in mind if youve got multiple bodieslenses. The weight may also be an issue for international flights originating outside the US, on which some airlines restrict the weight of your carryons. This lens does attract more attention when out shooting so dont expect to not be noticed if thats a concern.I have not used the earlier generation of this lens or the F4 version so I cant make direct comparisons to those models.

Oh this is my favorite lens of all times. It works for a lot of photos. You can do portraits with it and also some amazing zooms when you dont want to get too near. The only con of course is that it is super heavy, but totally worth the weight

This lens was expensive so I held off for a while. Looking back, I should have prioritized getting this over some of my primes. This has been a great addition to my kit and I really love it. Sharpness competes with some of my primes and it has the versatility of a zoom. This lens is working beautifully for sports. I cannot believe the detail I am getting, even at high ISO, wide open at dusk. I have shot a few portraits with it and know I will be using it during portrait sessions now as well. Totally subjective, but it has very beautiful qualities wide open that I did not expect to see in a zoom. Save your pennies. I waited a couple years to get this and have no regrets.

Love this lens for bug weddings when I dont want to be in front of all the guests and intrude on the wedding. It has great quality photos. I love that I am able to get close shots during ceremonies and dont have to crop them later losing the quality of the photos.

I have taking absolutely beautiful photos with this lens. I love getting the opportunity to shoot with one of these is makes almost any thing i shoot look 100 x better. The image stabilisation also is very helpful for following movement on the go without a tripod

I am plugging this lens with my t2i. I would say this lens is a beast Its quality built design and performance worth for its price. It produces very sharp image. The ultrasonic motor provide very quiet and very fast focusing. Also the significant of Image Stabilizer is a Plus feature if you like taking photos in low light condition. I was in dilemma on whether I should get the IS or NonIS version, but I feel no regret of it for spending couple more hundred bucks. It is a very good lens.On the other hand, this lens is heavy. When i hook up my battery grip, the canon speedlite 430 EX II flash with this lens, i feel like i am carrying a 20 lbs dumbbell with me all day. Also the 1.6x crop sensor from t2i will have to make you step back a little more in order to achieve the desire angle and same focal length you want when comparing to full frame equivalent.Other than that there is no problem with this lens I would recommend this lens to everyone. It is a good lens for investment

My goto wedding lens This stays on my camera 99 of the wedding day. I use the 50 1.2L to get the grooms face as the bride walks down the aisle and the 100 macro for details. Other than that, this lens is it I have it on a 5d mk iv and also record video with it. Kids from the back of the church Check First dance Check Its the perfect complimentary lens to the 2470 which my husband uses we are a husbandwife wedding photography team

I do not use camera lenses. I will in the future for my YouTube channel. But my husband is a photographer and filmmaker and he is all about lenses, cameras, accessories. Coolest feature is the 2.8 opening. It is overall a great lens and they make gorgeous photos with it.

Tack sharp even down to 160s handheld thanks to outstanding image stabilization. Bright 2.8 aperture perfect for creamy bokeh portraits or darker indoor venues. Autofocus is lightning fast and silent even going from 5 feet away 50. At first I thought the AF made some noise far less than any other lens Ive used, still but it turned out that was the IS. With IS off, there is almost ZERO noise out of this incredible lens.Every part feels of quality. Focus and zoom rings are grippy and dont slide around without outside input like on olderlower quality lenses.

Im an amateur photographer using this len for family portrait and kids school activities. The focus is so fast and the image is so sharp, although I dont have the stable arms. Thanks to the 4 stops IS, it helps me create many sharp images. The only thing I dont like about this len is the tripod ring. It gets in the way when mounted on the tripod. It kinds of awkward for me to use the zoom ring when mounting on the tripod. Other than that it is awesome len. Infact I mount it on my 5d2 ever since I received it from adorama. I dont have the previous version so I cant compare the performance between the two versions.

This lens is just amazing I was debating to buy this lens for a long time. When i started using this lens, it really amazes me in many aspects. The reach is really wonderful in a stage shows where you get the ability to take portrait shots. The quality is excellent and 2.8 is really have the advantage of another Fstop in low light conditions. The focus and speed is too good with Image stabilization. I will definitely recommend this product.

I had an older version 1 of this lens and it served me well for years. I rarely ever shot it at 2.8 just because it wasnt really good wide open. I finally sold that lens and bought this and wow, what a difference. Now I shoot at 2.8 all the time Super sharp I also like the clicklocking lens hood. My old lens hood system was not great. It would get loose and twist during a shoot, causing vignetting, or fall off entirely. Not this one I shoot it with my 5DMKIII and did not need any microadjustments of the focus. Love this lens.

Well, Im in love with this lens. Compression, image quality, CA, sharpness, contrast all of it is on point. Its well built, balanced, feels solid, has a nicer whiter finish than its predecessor, takes a 77mm filter, comes with lens hood as I think all lenses should and did I mention this thing takes some seriously crispy photos I dabble in portraiture, but Im way more into nightscapelandscape photography, and let me tell you this lens is now used more than the 2470 or the 85mm. Simply put, if you have the spare cash and want a phenomenal tele, get this lens and thank yourself later. Pat yourself on the back, you made a sound investment.

Great lenses. This one is a little heavier than I would like but it is a wonderful Lense other than that Definitely well worth the money.

Okay, so it isnt the II version of the lens. High street costs for that would be close to 1900. This version of the lens mostly go for under 1000 for a pristine lens. It is going to be a few years old, since they dont make them now but you can get a real bargain. If you must have the II version then expect to pay closer to 1500 on ebay. You can get lucky but not many go for below 1400. The crazy thing here is that, if you look around on the web, a brandnew import can be bought for 1470 You get a warranty from the seller check the positive comments about this on many photography websites and save about 400. Why do people pay about the same for a secondhand product with NO warranty The II version would need to be amazing but I think the I version is superb. Pin sharp and great contrast. Add a x2 extender and you have a 400mm f5.6 that will still autofocus on every body. Excellent

This was my favorite camera when I had a canon 5d Mark II. It has a beautiful bokeh and wide zoom range. I love using it for sports and portraits. It was unfortunately too heavy for me so I switched to a mirror less system.

Oh how do I love this lens. It give the creamiest backgrounds at 200mm. The only lens I have that is even creamier is the 135mm. It is very heavy, so be prepared for sore arms by the end of the day. The images are sharp, no chromatic aberration, and this really helped me step up my game.

Ok. This is my REAL favorite lens but I sadly dont own it anymore. Definitely pricey but the images its captures is incredible. I used it for the pictures below in Jackson Hole a couple years ago.

The Canon EF 70200mm is ii usm lens already has MANY reviews raving about the clarity and precision of the images at every focal length. What makes me give 5 stars to this particular purchase is Adoramas bundle price including 3 excellent filters, a great monopod, a flexible lens screen and numerous other accessories that I would have purchased separately and paid much more. The bundle is why I chose Adorama over competitors.

The Image Stabilization keeps things so steady that you can shoot handheld at down to 160s, maybe further. The bright f2.8 aperture makes this a great lens for all occasions sunlit outdoors, dim indoors, and it leads to beautiful bokeh for portrait shots in the wider apertures. The Autofocus system is nearly 100 silent and by far and away the fastest Ive ever seen out of a lens, even going from the minimum focusing distance to far out. Internal zoom means no moving barrel, which means no dust is getting inside this thing. If you cant get tacksharp results out of this lens, you wont get them out of anything. Theres a reason its in nearly EVERY Canon wedding photographers musthave list.

This lens is over engineered, very much like Mercedes of old. The price you pay for that, I should say immediately, is WEIGHT. I havent checked the specs, but this lens feels heavier than the 100400 mm Canon zoom, and this lens is a bit of a monster Having said that, however, it is extremely well balanced, especially on Canons 1D series of cameras after all, that is what its really made for, isnt it Having got the cons out of the way, this lens ticks every pro box in both senses of the word It flicks noiselessly into crisp focus at full aperture, and I find that I can hand hold it easily 3 stops slower than should be comfortably possible, with absolutely no camera shake whatsoever, when IS is operating. The standard bimodal image stabilisation system allows for full IS, when the camera is being used for normal functionality, but also, one of the settings disables lateral IS when the camera is being used for panning. In the latter mode, only up and down movement is inhibited, as regards camera shake prevention. Once you get used to the weight, and the fact that ice packs and a personal physiotrainer are needed the next day, you will find that stunning images are produced in the most difficult lighting conditions. The last comment is obviously tongue in cheek, and the mass of this lens, in many ways, aids stability, provided you have the muscles to use it properly If you want a technical assessment of the lens, I would refer you to the web, where Canon itself, amongst others, provide excellent performance comparisons, as regards resolution, sharpness, blur and Bokeh etc. I will be using this lens whenever I can justify the weight versus performance penalty. You will find it becomes one of your favourite lenses for short to medium telephoto work, provided you are close enough to civilisation to sit down and rest from time to time If unsure, go to your local photography supplier and try it better still, rent one for a few days to make certain that the lens is totally comfortable in your hands, and in your life, before making that inevitable, deep hole in your pocket

I purchased this lens over a year ago and have loved it ever since. The image quality this lens produces on a regular basis is awesome I use the lens to capture images at little league sporting events and almost always hand held. This lens is always on my camera, and I never leave home without it. Ive even used it at a 6th grade choir concert with low light and no flash with really good results. I cannot say enough good things about my lens I even use this lens for portraits over my fast primes because I simply love the color and bokeh I get from this lens. The image stabilization system on the 70200L IS II is awesome. I think Canon claims the IS on it gives a 34 Fstop advantage, in practical terms, its the difference between getting an awesome shot or getting a bad one with a lot of blur. Im also very impressed with the speed of the focus motor, it instantly locks on the target and delivers excellent results. I guess if you want to look at some drawbacks to this lens, I could list a few. The first one is obviously the price, its a bit higher than most other options. I justified this purchase in my mind with the fact that it rivals most primes at any focal length in its zoom range and a lot cheaper than buying them all The next one would be the sizeweight issue. Ive just accepted it and realized that no other zoom will give me the razor sharp images I get from this lens I carry it for hours at a time without even noticing the weight any more, everything else just seems light on my camera I would and do recommend this lens to anyone for anything theyre shooting within the 70200 zoom range. Probably the biggest con for me with this lens is the fact that it has made me become a lens s n o b After using this lens for any period of time, you cant pick up most other lenses without some sort of disappointment. Im in the market for a wide angle lens to complement my 70200 and find myself comparing every lens that I test to the one I already have, even though the focal ranges are miles apart. If anyone is interested, Ill probably end up purchasing the 2470L II because so far its the only lens Ive put on my camera that didnt leave me with the feeling that it was missing something. Well see If youre thinking about buying this lens, just do it and become a lens carrying member of the elite 70200 f2.8L IS II USM fan club

This is a quality lens, sharpness and build quality is second to none. I decided to clear my camera bag out and go for quality instead of quantity. Having read all the reviews out there, this had to be my first choice. Yes the lens is heavy, but you know that your working with one of canons best ever lenss. This is a professional bit of kit, ideal for sport, landscape and picking out faces in crowds. In the short time Ive had the lens the results have helped take my photography tothe next level. If you are thinking should I invest in such an expensive lens I would say yes, its that good.

This lens is So heavy would only bring it along to sporting events or concerts, any event that you know you need the big guns. Wouldnt recommend for casual shooter unless your hobby potentially includes birds. Great quality, pretty much the only lens thatll do the job that this lens does. The rings take a second to get used to. Would also recommend some sort of secondary accessory to counterbalance the weight of it, unless you are already accustomed to that sort of thing

Its a great lens. The zoom is great and the quality is gorgeous. So sharp. Only issue I have..I use the lens for sailing sport events and I have to carry my cam by hand and the lens is very heavy and big. Its a bit difficult after time but you get into it.

The image quality of my new refurbished lens is astounding on my also refurbished 80D. It can almost see in the dark, focuses fast, and the colors seem to be better somehow. Hard to put my finger on it. Refurbished is the way to go indistinguishable from new but at a nicer price.

I just purchased the 70200mm f2.8L IS II. I took it out and hand shot about 100 pictures alternating between 70mm and 200mm for each shot, at f2.8. I then went back and downloaded them to the PC. I viewed them all and noticed that, for me anyway, that more of the pictures were sharper, not by much, but more times than not, at the 200mm focal length. I didnt shoot at the other fstops as I bought it for the 2.8 aperture. I didnt shoot at infinity, but at objects between 8 and 50. Since I cant see as well as a younger person does, I relied on autofocus for all of the pictures taken. I used a Canon Mark III. To see if what I saw was correct, I went out and shot a series of shots on one subject at both the 70mm and 200mm lengths, on my tripod. When I viewed the shots with the 70 and 200 pictures side by side, it appears as if the 200mm was still a slight bit sharper. Could just be me, but that is what I saw. The pictures were pretty sharp and definitely sharper than the 28300mm 3.55.6l IS II I have, which can give pretty impressive shots hand held or on the tripod, but it should be sharper. It is not too heavy to hold for a few seconds waiting to steady yourself at full zoom. If you like expensive lenses, that you will use a lot, this is one you should get. It is versatile and not too heavy for a walk around telephoto. I bought the 2x extension and found that I definitely need to lean against something at the 200mm length, which is really 400mm. Even with the IS on, I am too shaky, I may be just too old to hold things steady now, but thats just me. Use a good tripod or monopod with the 2x ext. and remember, that you will lose a few fstops at wide open, as I did. Happy shooting, I am sure youll like the results

I have owned the MK1 version of this lens for several years. It has always proved an admirable work horse doing everything it needed to very well. I decided to suffer the serious pain in my wallet and upgrade to a mk2. I have to say that as soon as I started to use the mk2 I immediately noticed the difference…its sharper across the whole focal range with a noticeable improvement in colour saturation. Where it really scored a bullseye was when you blow up to larger sizes. In short despite the frightening price I dont regret for a second spending the money.

Primary useLandscapes and panoramas, to which it lends itself admirably. Its easy to use, tolerates my astigmatism and the image stabilizer is just what a shaky 83yearold needs. My one negative comment is that when set to the 200mm setting before composing the shot it doesnt like to autofocus on infinate subjects mountain ridges, the moon, distant islands, and the like. I can persuade it to focus on those subjects if I back off the zoom to just shy of the 135mm setting, take a shot, then return to 200mm and focus on what I want. Being an untechnical amateur, it may be that Im doing something wrong, but the procedure is a huge pain, and shouldnt be necessary with a lens of this caliber and price. Canons technical support was very prompt and helpful, partially alleviating the situation with advice to clean the lens and camera contacts but the problem, now an unpredictable constant, persists. Canons offered to examine the lens, but Im shoving off on an extended trip and need the lens now. Ill try them again upon my return.

I mostly use this lens for portrait work and weddings on location with natural lighting. The fast f2.8 aperture, combined with fantastic image stabilization, along with razor sharp wide open performance all add up to a versatile, functional, reliable, accurate, and easy to use lens.I was immediately impressed with the IS I can shoot at 120130 sec., 200mm handheld with razor sharp results. With a lower keeper rate, it is possible to shoot with even slower shutter speeds. In addition to the IS, I was also extremely pleased with the sharpness of the images captured with a wide open f2.8 aperture. The images are sharp from corner to corner, not just in the center. Also, the color and contrast that this lens captures is remarkable. I now shoot with all of the camera image enhancements contrast, color, sharpness, etc. set to 0. I used to need to boost vibrance and contrast in post processing, now it is rarely needed.I went back and forth for a long time trying to decide if this lens would be worth the money. I am glad that I spent the extra and purchased this knowing that I will not need an upgrade in the future. This lens nails everything I hope to do.I would highly recommend saving the extra to purchase this model.

Works well, Ive only used this lens on one occasion and need to practice using it more frequently, however I need to find the right opportunity as its not for everyday use since its telescopic. Took this along on a jeep excursion and took distance nature shots.

At close to 2 grand, it can be difficult to let go of that kind of cash. It is very well worth it. Tack sharp and fast At wide open f2.8 through out the zoom range or as closed down as much as f32. Ive only had this lens a week and fell in love with it right away. I have it mounted on my 5D mk IV and I have used it on my old T3i. I get great shots with both cameras with this lens. If you are serious about photography, professionally or as a hobby, take the leap. You will not be disappointed.

Pros Rugged, Durable, Strong Construction, Nice Bokeh, Fast accurate autofocusCons HeavyOther thoughts This lens is great in every aspect. I use this primarily for portrait but does not end there. Wildlife and sports are amongst the few other field of interest in photography. The only negative thing that I can say about this lens is its weight. This lens is massive and really is built like a tank. I thought people are just exaggerating it just like how other people pointed out that 2470 is also heavy. And no doubt, people are right, this lens is really heavy. I love the output that I get on this lens. Very consistent and nothing to complain about.

Still by far the best lens I have used for landscape photos and adventure sports content. It is heavy, but thats due to the elements it has got in it. For the price it sells at, really a good lens to use. One of the most important lenses a photographer has to carry. Highly recommend this one.

I am an amateur enthusiast and use my camera for traveling and the odd avio show, fall fair, etc.Started out with a Canon T1i and the kit lenses and I keep upgrading a piece of my gear per year. The camera is gone, and now I have replaced my last lens as well.I like to purchasing the best I can afford once I know what it is, instead of making incremental upgrades. Ends up cheaper this way, and faster overall. This purchase was a big jump for me from the 55250 kit lens to this. Before I bought the 70200 f2.8L, I rented the 100300L and 70200 f4 L lenses, and this one beats them both. It is definitely sharper than the 70200 f4 L I used and has better colors and bokeh than the 100300L.It is heavy, but that is to be expected. Overall I am very glad I bought it. No need to spend money on renting lenses anymore and my pictures turn out great. So far I have used it only outside. With its large aperture, its fast enough to use even handheldVery clean, sharp lens with great contrast and colors. The lens I got is offwhite, maybe light beige even. It has the 10digit serial number and no dative code seems like Canon is doing away with those. The lens was clear inside, no front or back focusing that I could tell did the staggered battery test general shooting.

Its already a highly rated lens. Im not sure there is anything I can add that others have not. The picture quality is nothing short of stunning. It makes an amazing portrait lens, the bokeh is absolutely beautiful. If there was anything that wouldnt make this the greatest lens ever is the weight, but thats par with a lens of this quality. Its worth the price, and your unlikely to find anything that compares allaround. You may find a lens with similar picture quality but with slow autofocus, there is always some tradeoff when saving money on this type of lens by trying to get an alternate brand. There is a reason you see so many of these hanging from a professional photographers.

Great lens, Quiet fast, excellent clarity and light gathering with edge to edge clarity. I dont use the IS much but it is a vast improvement over the previous version allowing users to hand hold up to 3 more stops of light over the first generation. With todays ISO handling that is astounding to think about. Love the lens, wish it came in other than white, but you can always get a lens jacketsleeve for it. Perfect midrange lens.

Ive been using this lens now for about 3 weeks and have to say that I agree with all the hype around it. The reviews that rave about this lens are spot on. Very crisp focus using AF on my 6D and very fast focusing at the same time. Im a hobbyist and it may sound silly but one of my favorite aspects is that I cant accidentally go wider than 70mm, Ive had sessions before where I end up shooting too wide angle and kicking myself afterword. One thing to be aware of though is that this thing is quite heavy, I was expecting that, it is just something to get used to. Lastly I love that all the zooming is internal, no tube to extend out the front

This was a huge decision for me due to the cost. I am very happy I chose to purchase this lens. It is already evident that it will be one of my favorite lenses. My first photos with it were in Yosemite National Park, a favorite place since it is not too far. The results were great. The bokeh was exactly what I expected from reading reviews. The clarity is very good. It is definitely heavy, but I expected that, so it doesnt bother me. I have both a monopod and tripod, so I dont see it as a negative. I look forward to using it for portraits and weddings.

I thought about this purchase for many weeks, but am now glad that I did bite the bullet and go for it. The build quality is great however all that glass and metal work comes at a price though, and thats weight. Just to be clear, the model I purchased is the 70200 f2.8L IS II USM, i.e. version 2 of the lens. Ive used it many times now and the picture quality is fantastic. It isnt discreet though and people do stare at it as you walk around. This did bother me initially, but I am used to it now. I used this lens successfully at an event that we hosted recently in low ish light conditions and I was pleased with how the pictures have turned out. I couple this lens with my 2470 f2.8L II IS USM lens and so I have coverage from 24200 now. Dont dilly dally about whether to buy this lens, just do it. No regrets.

Pros Upgraded from the f4 non IS version to this and am very impressed so far. Ive only used it for a bit of wildlife and random shots and have not used it for its intended use yet, which is motorsport.Images are sharp as expected and the IS helped when following fast moving birds. and no doubt rally cars when I get the chance to goWhen using a 1.4 extender the maximum aperture is f4.Cons Quite a lot heavier than the f4 non IS version but I dont mind, you get used to it.Price is quite steep so would suggest purchasing when there are offers on it.

First the bad The lens is somewhat heavy but this was known at time of purchase thus recommend using with a monopod or tripod if e.xtended use is expected. The good Everything else. The lens has been highly reliable and quick to focus. Mine has a tendency to front focus ever so slightly. This was easily resolved by adjusting my Canon 50D.This lens has been my main stay for shooting high school football and soccer low light conditions as well as beauty pagents and cheer competitions where flash photography was prohibited. The lens shoots well at F2.8 but better at F3.2. For the money I doubt you will find a better lens. If you dont need the F2.8 capability you can save considerably by purchasing the F4.0 version of this lens.

I bought this lens to improve upon lens collection. After discussing with many professional photo friends I was convinced this was the one. Aaah light shines THIS IS THE ONE. This beauty is fast and sharp with dreamy bokeh. Its everything I have been looking for. There are so many great things about this lens that I could go on forever, but I will leave it to you to check out and see for yourself. The only minor drawback is the weight but you get what you pay for. glass this good would have to be heavy.

Pros Bright, Fast Focus, Uniform, Solidly Built, SharpCons 15kg, Large, Stands Out In A CrowdOther thoughts I initially got this lens specifically to take photos during ballet recitals that by daughter is in. The f2.8 aperture and 70200mm reach are wonderful for that. At 70mm I get the full stange and at 200mm I get a single dancer on the stage, all while being able to shoot at f2.8 and keep the shutter speed up.However, this lens really shows its amazing image quality when doing portraits indoors with natural light and when doing high resolution plant and animal photography outdoors. This lens is so good that one can and would use it over a prime lens in the same focal range. Yes, some primes are faster than this or maybe a bit sharper, but nothing that one can usually notice, especially if the subject is moving at all.

I have owned and used a few of these lenses over the years. It is one stellar lens to say the least. Build quality externally is top notch, image quality extremely good. The IS is effective and works well when it does work. Overall, you cant go wrong with this lens. However, durability is one reason I dont give it 5star.I mentioned I have usedowned a few copies of this lens over the years… Well, the first two I owned had IS units fail and had to be replaced by Canon… Both had developed a loud grinding noise that would come and go.Another one I have purchased arrived decentered badly and had to be exchanged. My most recent order arrived with broken IS and a zoom ring with excessive play. In the past I also had main barrels replaced internally within the lens when the MF ring would no longer move the focusing elements inside the lens when pointed upward. For being such an expensive lens, I find these repairs and issues unacceptable. I have used and currently own many other L lenses and none of them had any issues like this one. I baby all my equipment as well, so it was not abuse or heavy use causing it.So that is the only downfall with this lens in my opinion. They are supercomplex internally, so there is plenty to go wrong. This is why I rebuy this lens every year or two when rebates are best to renew my warranty and avoid any costly repairs down the road with this lens. It is the only one I do this with

I could see the difference in image quality on the back of my camera It must be illegal to love a lens as much as I LOVE this lens I dont think Ill be taking it off my Canon 7D very soon. All doubts about the big price tag were gone the minute I viewed my initial shots on my computer. I knew from reading reviews that this was a good lens…but I really feel its taken my photography to a new level. Even its hefty weight isnt a problem..so well balanced All in all, Im thrilled I finally bit the bullet and added this to my collection.

Pros 5D mark III user personally cant justify the cost in terms of affordability but reading all the reviews and comments accross the web felt i needed it. not had chance for a proper shoot yet, but so far no doubt an excellent performance sharp accurate fast and all the rest of what you read. having got it now after waiting several months for a price drop i would say to people the 2470 2.8 is a must have lens i have some amazing shots from it and its as much about how good a photographer you are in terms of skill and expertise. i am sure so far if your needs are not that specific you dont need to bash your mind in persuasion to get this lens. i do feel canon are probably making a chunky profit on this which is commercially acceptable these days but on a ethical level pretty perplexing. but dont be mediareview cohersed like i unfortunately was if you are not in a position to afford it comfortably i had to dig deep and sacrifice on other frontsso in summary a great piece of kit only very very expensive dont think you cant be a great photographer without it YOU CERTAINLY CAN if you comfortably afford then just get itCons price price priceok its heavy but thats probably the quality of materialsmake sure your bag can hold all your kit with this as well its huge

I used to have a canon 70300 IS USM 45.6 nonl and I was happy with absolutely everything about this lens but the focus speed, So I decided to sell it in adorama BTW they gave me 150 for it but not before taking some shots in my Manfrotto to compare later with my new 70200 f2.8L IS USM Mk1. Surprise, the 70200 mk1 was not even close in sharpness, yes it has a little bit of more CA and distortion in the 70300, but just a tiny bit, definitely not a better lens. Then I said, this is another bad copy, So I asked a friend of mine with a copy he owns for long time and he is very happy with and we exchanged, wow again, my friend came with the same conclusion. Finally I returned the 70200 mk1 and got a mk2, this is in another level, superb in every single aspect, but I would expect similar from the mk1 for 1.6K . Now the questions I haveIs the 70300 really that good lens My non scientific conclusions tell me the upgrade does not worth unless you are living on photography or you really really need a superb and fast AF.Why so many professional expended the last 10 years excited about the 70200 mk1 IQ is there any kind of addictive secret component in the red ring, the cream color or somethingIs there any possibility of a weird combination of a great copy of my 70300 and two really bad copies of my 70200sI was using a 5d mk2.

This is a killer lens and is worth every cent. With this and a short zoom you can do almost anything. Reviews say the F4 version is more crisp but you can not let that take away from the perfection of this lens. Put a good hood on it and the optics are protected. I had the F4 but only because this was out of my price range at the time. You cant go wrong with the IS either.

Damn big. Damn heavy. And thats all the cons of this lens. In every single sense, this is a fantastic piece of glass with which you cannot go wrong. It delivers amazing photos regardless of its position among the zoom range. 70mm 2.8 No problem. 85 The same. 135, 150, 180, 200… At every single point, even wide open this is just and simply a fantastic lens. Moreover, it is better than other 70200 lenses that are its rivals, including Nikons, making it an even bigger of a king for me. Its well known and respected, and it isnt without reason. Highly recommended.

Best lens I own. Tack sharp, great in low light situations… the quality is second to none. Its a bit heavy… it weights almost 3 12 lbs., but I hear people complain about muscle soreness and I think its ridiculous. Its not THAT heavy. Im going to NZ to do some multiday hikes and will be bringing this along with me. Yes, itll add 3 12 lbs. to my load but its not THAT heavy. Ive used it at sporting and political events for my job and its not overly heavy….. dont let that intimidate you, unless you have some sort of muscle weakness problem or carpal tunnel syndrome.Love, love, love this lens. When zooming in on the computer, I cannot believe the sharpness and quality of the pictures I take.I would 100 recommend this lens. Its expensive, true, but well worth the price.

First off, I got my version from Adoramas USED department. It was rated E, which indicates flawless glass and minimal signs of wear on the barrel. It came with original box, caps, hood, case and tripod mount. When it arrived, I checked it over to verify the condition, and I have to say it exceeded what I was expecting. Apart from the product barcode being clipped off the box I assume from the original owner for a rebate, it was like it was brandnew Adorama did a great job of cleaning and preparing the lens for shipment. VERY HAPPY with the conditionThat said … WOW This lens is absolutely incredible It lives up to ALL of the hype youve heard. Insanely sharp glass at all fstops and, coupled with a fullframe sensor, gives your photos that ultradreamy DOF that makes them really stand out. With rare exceptions, the AF is fast and doesnt miss. Having the AF range limiting switch on the side of the barrel really helps. As youd expect from Lglass, the images have excellent contrast and are very vibrant. In my lens, I have noticed a tiny bit of frontfocusing on the wide end, but thats very easily remedied with the cameras AF Microadjustment setting.Yep, its pricey. But its topquality glass in a highprecision platform that will more than pay for itself. If youre a pro, THIS lens needs to be in your bagYep, its heavy. It can wear on your arms or shoulders after a long day of shooting. But that discomfort will be forgotten long after youre still marveling over the photos youve shot.I now own several lenses, including a few Llenses, but this one is the first one in a long time to really help me rediscover that insatiable creative urge to get out and shoot with wild abandon, LOL.

Used a Gen I lens for 13 years and it was my goto lens. Extremely versatile, and excellent performance with all my different camera bodies and environments. Well, as they say, accidents happen and my Gen I lens was rendered unusable and couldnt be fixed by Canon Professional Services. A friend of mine highly recommended the Gen II. Did lots of research and reached out to many friends in the business. I opted to buy the Gen II. I got it quickly from Adorama after purchase and after opening the box and fitting it to a Canon 1DX, I looked through the viewfinder and the amount of light there was unexpected and all I could say was wow I took it to an airshow the next week and the images and image quality of what I shot there were unmatched in my experience. Works well with a 1.4x III teleconverter as well. Just a superior lens in all aspects and I cant wait to use it for all the various genres that I shoot

I was looking through my desk for something unrelated and came upon the warranty card for my original version of this lens and was kinda shocked to be reminded I had purchased it in 1999. While nominally the same lens, I thought it might be wise to cash in those chips and replace it, and I did.I suppose its possible Im rationalizing the expense, but I really do see a difference. This lens, designed and manufactured in the digital age, is noticeably sharper than the earlier version. In fact, its razor sharp, and on the second day of using it I nailed a cover shot for the magazine I was working for. You could see the moisture in the subjects eyes.Whether you are upgrading as I did, or considering a purchase for the first time, this particular lens is often referred to as legendary. It lives up to the description.

Stop second guessing purchase prices on lenses opt for the good glass There is a major difference that will be seen in the quality of your photos when you purchase good glass regardless of the brand. Theres already a ton of reviews regarding this lens and its a highly recommended glass to add to your kit. So I wont do one here. I waited years to justify getting this and pulled the trigger on one of Adoramas open box lens listing. Lens came in absolute pristine condition Im extremely happy with it so far. Used it to take action shots for my sons sports activities. Im not a pro by any means. Cropped some of the pics I thought were good and handed them out to the other parents. The feedback I got was overwhelming regarding how great the pics were Im using it to take some pics of the super moon and pics are coming up great, better than my previous setup which was just a 24105mm L. Now Im getting a 2x extender. I want more reach This lens has got me hooked and given me new experiences with my DSLR. Love it Is it heavy Well, honestly, for me, it wasnt that bad for short outings. I can see if you do an all day shoot, it will be tiring. But for the 12 hours I used it, I had no tripod and wore it around my neck during the idle periods. It was no bother.. at least not enough to make me not want to use the lens. Im trying to use it every chance I get. Thanks Adorama for the great quality and service

I bought this about a month ago and I couldnt be happier. It is on the heavy side, but absolutely slays everything I wanted it to do weddings and portraits. At 200mm, the background just melts away. If youre thinking about buying this, you wont regret it. Mine is impeccable and I couldnt be happier with the purchase. It is a must have for weddings and portrait work, allowing for flexibility with focal length while melting backgrounds into bokeh goodness. I am OBSESSED with it. Ive recently purchased a 6 month old version 1 of this lens for 1200. NOTE The manufacturers 12 month warrantee is only valid with the original receipt of purchase, so any second hand lens without this will not be covered by Canon. Being one of Canons professional L Series lenses you would expect the 70200 f2.8 to be on the button and you would be right. Solidly built and beautifully finished this lens is a joy to use. I was sceptical about how effective the Image StabilisingIS system would be, but i can honestly say that its phenomenal, indoors, handheld and even at 200mm you can shoot at 140sec and the results are excellent. I have other shorter IS lenses and the benefit is, perhaps, not so obvious. I was tempted to buy the non IS version which is optically the same if not better, but Im glad i held out for the IS version, which has now been replaced by the IS II version, giving better results. Focusing is very quick and you can make it even quicker by selecting 2.4m min focusing distance, this starts at 2.4 not 1.2 which is the other setting, why they didnt make it 10m to for really long distant work i dont know There are 2 IS modes for subjects which move in either 2 planes up down or for panning cant say Ive noticed much difference as yet but it is early days. Dislikes hmmmm… none so far, it is heavy but you cant have lots of glass without the weight. If youre in the market for a top quality, short telephoto zoom lens around the 1200 mark then this is a must…the quality is outstanding. If you have 1800 quid burning a hole in your pocket then buy the Version 2.

Pros Sharpness is razor through entire rangeEven using at f2.8, its sharper than any lens I own 50 1.4, 85 1.8, 25105L, etc.IS is very quiet when kicksin Mark I model was very loud4 stops of IS the weight of the lens on the palm of your hand makes for outstanding stabilization even below 4 stops. No longer need my Canon 851.8 prime to get that look to portraitsCons Pretty heavy lens, you will need to use a strap that goes across your shoulder to the other side. A straight hanging neck strap will probably be a problem over time, maybe even just an hour or so.The width of this lens may make handling it difficult for smaller hands if this is you, try it out first via LensRentals.com or something.Price tag will bite a little but worth it if you make money from photos, or just want the bestinclass optics for your camera.Other thoughts

Wow, just wow Ive been shooting the 70200 mm lens now for about 2 weeks. The one thing that really stands out is how effortless it is to get a beautiful rich bokeh when shooting. What sets it apart from all my other red ring lenses is the field of depth is truly preserved even as the background is blurred out. The 70200mm lens really is a very different lens and now I can see why its a goto choice for portrait photography.

Ive owned this Lens for about a Month now. Im replacing a used Sigma 70200mm 2.8 which is a fine Lens, but in this instance, the Canon is worth the extra money. I have a Side Line Photography Business that is continuing to grow. As my requests to do Weddings seems to be exploding, I needed a Lens that would capture Images in a fast paced environment the majority of the time. The Canon far exceeds The Sigma. Im amazed at how tack sharp this Lens is. Of course, for Two Grand, it should be, and it doesnt disappoint. I use it with a 6D and a 7DMKII and both Bodies produce incredible Images with this Lens. Amazing glass The lens comes with a tripod collar, a nice padded case, front and rear caps, and a hood. You should get a plate for the collar. I am using a Wimberley P10 quick release plate, although Wimberley recommends the P20 plate both should work fine. I also use a BW UV MRC filter with a 77mm thread to protect the front element.I have both the Canon 70200 f4L IS and the Canon 70200 f2.8L IS II. The f4L is smaller and lighter. Both take amazingly sharp photos with a high keeper rate. Both have abovepar build quality. Both are handholdable, but the f4L is more mobile simply because it is smaller and lighter. I have taken one hand shots with the f4L, but I dont think I could do this with the f2.8L due to its size and weight. That said, the f2.8L lens is faster, the AF is faster, and its AF hunts less in low light. The quality of the shots is absolutely superb. The shots seem a little stylized in that they are super sharp, but they have a smooth, antialiased feel to them. The effect is very pleasing. The IS works very well in both One Shot and AI Servo modes.Overall, a great lens and a must buy if you have a Canon DSLR.

This is a really great lens. Duh. Over its predecessor, the main advantage for me is the closer focusing distance. I think its roughly 4ft vs 5ft on the old one. That lets you make some images you couldnt before. Its sharper than the mark I too and you dont have to pixel peep to notice the difference. The IS is amazing. In a impromptu test in the kitchen I hand held 200mm at 16th shutter with a sharp, usable result. I turned IS off and you can imagine what happened. The IS system is very effective. Its heavy and tiring on a long shoot but what can you do. The optics are great. Ive heard it described as a bag of primes and maybe that description is not too far off.
