easy to use and very sharp. Used on a Canon EOSR with 600mm sense
Lee –
This is the ideal and perfect accessory for a RF100500. You get virtually NO loss of IQ. If you in half way decent light you wont even notice the focus speed slowing down. The 1.4x is the sweet spot to get results without a penalty. Highly recommended for that tad bit of extra reach.
Robert –
As long as the wildlife is stationary, the images are very sharp. However, the theyre in motion, youll need a faster shutter speed, andor higher ISO. Much sharper than the EF 1.4 extender.Be aware that on the RF100500L lens, you can only use the 300500 focal lengths since the protruding tube will prevent you from using below 300mm.
Louis G –
Pictures with the RF 100500 are tack sharp with this RF 1.4x Extender, even better than theEF 100400 mark ll EF 1.4x Extender. Money well spent.
Joseph –
Seems like a design flaw in that you cant fully retract zoom lenses like the RF 100500. But it gives you extra reach when you need it at the cost of only 1 stop.
Layton –
I added the RF 2x teleconverter to my Canon Eos R5 camera along with the RF 100500 F4.57.1 L is lens. I can not believe how fast that this combo will snap Animal Eye detect focus, on flying birds at 1,000mm. Seems just as fast as the bare Rf 100500 lens.
Willy –
You need good light to get a good picture. But when the conditions allow it the extra reach is nice to have.
Dik –
I bought one of these to use with my RF 800 EOS R.It causes a slightly offset ghost image of high contrast edges. Unusable for BIF. Returning to seller.
Dick –
RF 800 lens is great by its self, adding the 1.4 extender gets you up to just shy of 1200. the lose of one f stop is not that noticeable. Mostly use shooting nature Video. Brings the small birds in close. Not so good for motion in low light, but was not expecting anything different.
Elizabeth –
This just arrived but am looking forward to using it.
Judith –
RF 1.4 extender for my R6 camera is excellent and I get very sharp results.
Bill –
The Canon Extender RF 1.4x is sharp but use is limited to only a few RF lenses and in particular, does not work with the 70200 and only from 300mm on the 100500.
Regis –
Fantastic sharpness using my EOS R camera.
Gary –
I bought this to extend the RF100500 lens. It does a really good job as you would expect providing crisp, clean images. It has some plusses and minuses. The plusses are its optically fantastic no degradation of image quality. The minuses are only minor. 1 The autofocus works well but does not perform as well quickly during any sort of tracking autofocus activity, think moving animals, sports etc. But will pick up static targets very reliably. 2 the connected to camera size is nice the white part and keeps the overall extension of your lens to a minimum. The internal extension the black part in the image that extends into your lens prevents you from using the full extent of the lens restricting the operation of my lens to the 300500mm range and keeps the lens in the extended position physically. 3 Would be nice if you could stack this with the RFEF adapter to provide a bit more utility across the line of lenses I have, since the number of lenses is still quite limited in the RF line at least lenses youd want to extend. Right now the only way to do it is to use the RFEF adapter and an EF 1.4x or 2x extender on your EF lenses. Works fine but just have to have both EF and RF extenders and that gets expensive. So I give a 4 star rating because it does exactly what its supposed to do but wish it had more utility across the line of EF and RF lenses.
Michael –
This extender does just what it was designed for and works very well. It is tough and does not degrade image quality at all as near as I can tell. Just what you expect from Canon optics
Benoit –
Ive had the opportunity to pair this extender with the RF 100500mm lens, and the RF 800mm lens during a few outingsIt gets me the extra reach required, and autofocus seems to work just as well. The tripod becomes necessary when paired with the 800mm lens.
Chris –
I was hesitant to pay for an extender that I can only use with one lens. I will say it works well with my 100500mm. The combo together is over 3k which is a lot of money. I could find some really good used L glass for this price. Anyhow, not BHs fault but Canons. So how does it workThe RF 15 focuss just as fast with the extender. F10 is no speed demon and youll need good light. The R5 is great with low light and high ISO, but dont fool yourself and think that will make up for F10 and low light. If you have good light, then 700mm looks great. Im sure your aware that the lens will not retract with the extender on. This is a bummer and can be a hassle to pack with the extender. Also its been a learning curve to put it on in the field as you have to extend the lens first before adding the extender. Not really a big deal, but can be cumbersome to juggle in a rush. Still wish the 15 was f6.3 like my Tamron and the Sigmas at 600.Overall, the glass is L Canon quality and with the combo its still WAY lighter and easier to carry around.I also had the Tamron G2 1.4x and 2.0x Extender for the 16 G2 and the lens was so slow with focus I returned them. The Tamron 16 still would focus slower than the 15 w14x.It does what its supposed to do and gets me the little bit more reach with good light. Maybe someday I will be able to gift myself one of the new Long RF primes that will be coming out and Im sure the 1.4x will work perfect on them as well.
Lee –
This is the ideal and perfect accessory for a RF100500. You get virtually NO loss of IQ. If you in half way decent light you wont even notice the focus speed slowing down. The 1.4x is the sweet spot to get results without a penalty. Highly recommended for that tad bit of extra reach.
Elmer –
easy to use and very sharp. Used on a Canon EOSR with 600mm sense
Steven –
The RF 2x takes sharp photos on the R5 mirrorless camera. It is good for photographing small birds with the Canon RF 800mm or new zoom lens. It also works with auto focus on these lenses which is a big advantage.
Knut –
Using it with my RF 100500. Works great, as expected really with auto focus still quite quick. Weird that the lens only works from 300500 due to mechanical limitations with that particular lens. In a way not a problem as I want as much magnification as possible and I rarely use the 100300 range. Problem comes when you want to fit your lens in the camera bag. The converter has to come off and invites dust to enter your camera.
Pierre –
I love bird photography. Unfortunately most birds are far awayI use this extender with my Canon RF 800mm F11 allowing a reach of 1120 mm f16. I am amazed at the quality of the images, even hand held, as long as the lighting is good f16 fixed to allow a quick shutter speed and the lowest ISO possible R5 body. There is some narrowing of the focussing area but I do not find this to be significant.
Julius –
Works extremely well with the RF 100500mm Zoom lens, perfect comliment.
Robert –
I bought this to combine with my RF 600mm f11 lens. It does an admirable job of magnifying the image. I do not give it five stars because it costs 100 more than Canons latest version of its EOS EF teleconverters, and it has much less utility. As I understand it, it is not usable with the RF 70200L lenses, and its length deprives the RF 100500 zoom of a significant portion of the enhanced zoom range it ought to provide, were it not for its interfering with the full used of the zooming device. I expect to use my R5 primarily with my EF lenses, rather than with RF ones, since those lenses work with all of my cameras and the EF teleconverters do not interfere with the full utility of the lenses to which they are attached.
Jun –
I purchased this for my 100500 mm RF L IS USM. However it works only from 300 to 500 mm for the lens with F14 aperture. It makes the lens extended very long and really hard to carry. The picture quality is not sharp as well. Dont buy it
Rob –
Shame on me for not reading the details of the lens compatibility but bought this extender assuming it was obviously made for the EF 70200. After unboxing and trying to setup find out that it is in fact NOT compatible. Bummer as Canon missed the obvious market for this extender as is the case with the old line of SLR extenders. Now staring at a 600 paper weight. Thanks Canon. Sharing this review to hopefully alert others who may not be reading the fine print.
Taylor –
Allows me more reach when doing bird photography. Light and easily added to my telephoto lens
Christi –
I like bird photography and with this 1.4 extender on my 600 mm RF lens, Im able to get close enough to see details while not scaring them away with having to be too close. Perfect
John –
Ordered the RF 1.4x to use with an R5 and the new RF 100500 to shoot wildlife. The pictures using this extender are really nice and crisp. Only drawback is the lens cant be collapsed below 300 mm with the extender in place. If youve got the extender on, then youre probably not interested in wide angles, but it doesnt quite fit in our backpack without taking the extender off to collapse the lens. Really not a drawback, but something to be aware of. Overall, very satisfied and would recommend to anyone looking for more reach.
Layton –

I bought this thinking Id use it on my RF 70200 2.8 and quickly found out that wont work. I will keep it for use on a couple other lenses Ill be ordering in the near future.
Daren –
I am using this with my RF 100500. Pictures have great detail, no degradation detected. Biggest issue is not being able to fully use my 100500. I do a lot of bird in flight pics and the extender works great until the bird gets to close and you can no longer retract the lens due to the bad design. Taking the extender on and off all the time is a pain. Carrying my camera around with the lens hanging out 300mm all the time is annoying and makes it much harder to not hit things and more cumbersome. It will also not fit in any storage system with the extender on. If it was not for the great pictures I get using it, I would return it.
Norman –
Works great with the 80mm and the 100500 just as I expected
Knut –

I use Canon R6 with 800mm 2x, ok to use but focus little slow. if you use custom make EF adapter 2x on Canon 100400mm MII focus fast.
Morris –
I received this before the RF 100500mm arrived so I was anxious to try it out with the R5. I was a bit concerned about DLA with the high meg sensor and the f10 with the combination but the results were more than satisfying. Even the AF eye tracking worked like magic. And the stabilasation of the system lets you do everything hand held.
Eric –
Impressive sharpness. But note this extender does NOT attach to many of the new Canon RF lenses. Check first to see which lenses this extender fits.
Michael –

I have this on my R5 and RF 100500 almost all the time. Camera focuses just as fast with this on as it does with it off and I can definitely tell an improvement in image quality vs zooming in.

Das der Konverter nicht auf das Trinity Tele passt ist eine Zumutung… jetzt darf man noch das 100500 kaufen oder das 600 mit schlechterer bildqualitt und F11…. nicht so gut geplant…

Eric –

Stefanie –
The extender itself works perfectly but its design could have been better when paired with the 100500mm. Limiting the lens focal length to a minimum of 300mm is annoying both in use and transport.
Douglas –
I did a test on a focus chart where I cropped into the same bit with and without the extender. The extender definitely provided increased resolution.
Christi –
I like bird photography and with this 1.4 extender on my 600 mm RF lens, Im able to get close enough to see details while not scaring them away with having to be too close. Perfect
Ichiro –
The combination of lenses that can be used now is 100500, but I hesitate to use it because the degree of freedom is a little reduced.
John –
I use the Canon Extender RF 1.4x with my Canon R6 and RF 800mm f11 IS STM Lens. The combination works great for bird and wildlife photography.

Works great so far. Like all the Canon R5 gear Ive purchased, this extender is beautifully made and functions perfectly.
Joshua –
I loved the extenders on the EF lenses. They were sharp and added 1.4 or 2x the focal length with only adding a few inches to the length, so it was easy to carry around. With this your lens had to be out to 300mm making it so unwieldy to carry. See image below. I had to return it. I hope Canon makes a different extender in the future that doesnt make the lens always stick out to 300mm.

I use this extender with my 100500 lens and, with enough light, it focuses pretty well and takes amazing images. I get images with this extender that I could not without spending 10 times the price, or more. Downsides Auto focus is essentially limited to the middle box in a ninesquare grid. And when golden hour comes, its time to think about removing the extender. Auto focus relies on having a lot of light with the extender. I have missed shots because I could not get the lens to focus without a lot of light.
Binh –
This is the best TC for EOS R system. I have tried canon RF 1.4 TC on canon RF 100500, and The image quality and auto focus still remain very good. I have canon RF 600mm f4 IS on order, so I cant wait to try it on.

Excellent converter for R bodies, one of sharpest I have ever used with either Nikon or Canon. Dont even notice any loss of sharpness with my RF 100500mm f4.57.1L. Autofocus on R5 still works just as good as without the converter. Love it

I just installed this on my RF100500 lens today. I had to remember that the lens has to be extended to at least 300 mm to be able to install this extender. Its operation with the lens is great, but I would have preferred that the 1.4x operation could be applied to the entire 100500 range of the lens.

I have replaced my EF 1.4EX with this new RF 1.4EX. It is the only available extender for my new RF 100500. I dont like the fact that the lens has to be at at least 300mm. I therefore can not carry it in my case or pack it for transport without removing the the extender. It also forces me to work from 420mm to 700mm and not have the advantage of working from 140mm as I could with my old extender. While it is a necessary tool in my kit I will uses it much less than I would have if I could zoom from 140mm. The additional removal and installations will also subject my equipment to potentially more internal contamination and dust.

I have ordered RF 600mm f4, RF 100500mm, RF 1.4X and 2x extender. I have only received till now this extender. To test it out I rented RF 800mm f7.1 and used it for a Bald eagles nest at 1600mm f15 which was two football field away. The results were disappointing more so because of limitations of 800mm STM lens. It limits the focus field in a square. I used single point focusing but the eyes were not sharp focused and image was quite soft. I will review it again when I had a chance to use with rf 600 mm or RF 100500mm.

This new RF 1.4 extender does the job better than past extenders that I have used. It makes my 600mm lens a 800mm lens and my 500mm lens a 700mm lens. The photos are sharp enough to use and the loss of one stop of light is insignificant. Higher ISO will let you use higher shutter speeds for birds and sports. I am happy with my purchase.

You need good light to get a good picture. But when the conditions allow it the extra reach is nice to have.

To enable me to obtain distant photos of a local Bald Eagle, I purchased the Canon RF 2X extender to go with my EOS R5 body, and RF 100500mm IS L lens.To my eye there was no loss of image quality, at twice the distance from my subject. Also no noticeable lag in AF.This was just what I needed.

I did a test on a focus chart where I cropped into the same bit with and without the extender. The extender definitely provided increased resolution.

Ik heb de extender nu een kleine 3 weken en veel gebruikt. Ik heb er goede ervaring mee. Snelheid en gebruiksvriendelijk. Wel een stevige prijs maar is zijn geld wel meer dan waard.

RF 800 lens is great by its self, adding the 1.4 extender gets you up to just shy of 1200. the lose of one f stop is not that noticeable. Mostly use shooting nature Video. Brings the small birds in close. Not so good for motion in low light, but was not expecting anything different.

The combination of lenses that can be used now is 100500, but I hesitate to use it because the degree of freedom is a little reduced.

I wanted to get a extender for my rf 800mm F11 lense so I could have more reach for subjects

This is the best TC for EOS R system. I have tried canon RF 1.4 TC on canon RF 100500, and The image quality and auto focus still remain very good. I have canon RF 600mm f4 IS on order, so I cant wait to try it on.

RF 1.4 extender for my R6 camera is excellent and I get very sharp results.

Ive had the opportunity to pair this extender with the RF 100500mm lens, and the RF 800mm lens during a few outingsIt gets me the extra reach required, and autofocus seems to work just as well. The tripod becomes necessary when paired with the 800mm lens.
