As you would expect from a brand like Nikon, the Coolshot ProII Stabilized comes well packed in a very nice box, that would be more than suitable should you be wishing to present it as a gift. In the box was the Coolshot ProII Stabilized rangefinder, a canvas carrying case, a battery and an instruction manual. The palm sized rangefinder measures 10cm long, by 7.5cm tall and is about 4.2cm thick. It weights about 195g (including the battery). It is well built, and looks good, although I have to say that I think the choice of a glossy plastic for the main body makes it look and feel a little cheaper than it would have if they had used a matte finish instead. The rangefinder is powered by a single CR2, which is easy to replace. There is a battery level indicator icon on the display, which is handy. The unit shuts itself off automatically after 8 seconds of not being operated. The rangefinder feels very ergonomic and fits in the hand well. The controls are simple, with just two buttons on the top that fall naturally under your fingers. One which changes between the four main modes of operation and one that doubles up as both the Power On button and the Measurement button. There is also a ring around the eyepiece which adjusts the focus. There are four main modes of operation: regular mode, slope adjusted mode, height mode, and width mode. When not in slope adjust mode, a green light lights up on the front of the device to indicate that you are ok to use it in competitions/tournaments. Measurements can be taken either as a one off reading, or by holding the button down you can take continuous measurements. There are options that allow you to change the brightness level of the display, set the units of measurement (meters or yards), and turn on/off the electronic confirmation sound. As you would expect from a Nikon device, the optics are stunning. The magnification is 6x and you get a crystal clear image on the OLED display. The stabilization is also extremely good, making it much quicker and easier to lock onto your target, as well as making the experience of using the device so much better. If you golf in windy conditions, or have shaky hands due to age or other issues, as in my case, it makes all the difference to being able to use such a device. In use, the rangefinder is very fast. It would consistently lock on in the claimed 0.3 seconds. When locked on you get both a clear visual signal in the display as well as an audible signal. The OLED display was excellent, and all the information on it was clear and easy to understand. Accuracy was also good. The device is rated to be used between rated at 7.5m -1,090 m and is said to have an accuracy ±0.75 m at shorter than 700m; ±1.25 m from 700 to 1000m; and ±1.75 m at 1,000 m and over. Whilst I can’t claim to have measured every time I used it, it certainly corresponded with the distances I did know about for sure, and seemed to prove accurate at all other times as well. The device is said to be fog and waterproof and it has certainly stood up to the rain in the time I’ve been using it. The canvas bag is ok but nothing to shout home about. I personally would have preferred a hard shell case, especially at this price point. The only real negative I have with the rangefinder is that it doesn’t have a magnet so you can’t affix it to the side of a golf cart. In conclusion, this is a well made, fast, accurate rangefinder. The quality of the optics and the image stabilization make it stand out above its competitors and I can highly recommend it. My only reason for giving it 4 stars instead of 5, is that for the price at the time I received the item (£499.00, March 2022), I would expect excellence throughout. So whilst the niggles I have with it (the glossy finish of main body, non hardshell case, and lack of magnet) are relatively small and don’t affect the overall performance of the device, for that kind of price I don expect it to have any niggles at all. ~ Gadget Tree asked me to review this product and to give my honest opinion about it. That’s what I have set out to do, so I hope you found it helpful. ~

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 February 2025 Verified Purchase Works flawlessly. No reason to buy the overpriced Canon version. Note that it has no glass in it, so there is no need to worry about optical quality. It is a spacer, as the sensor in mirrorless Canon cameras is further forward, as there is no need to leave space for a mirror. It does pass through electronic signals between camera and lens, which it does well. For focus stacking the comms are more complicated, and it does this too.
