My comments below address only still photographic aspects of the body. I dont use this or any of my camera bodies for Video. Some shortcomings in video have been expressed by other reviewers.I was attracted to the 5D Mark IV by the 30 MP sensor, which was claimed to deliver the increased over the 20 MP Mark II resolution without losing, and possibly gaining 1 EV of, dynamic range. That meant I could crop to make up some of the lost effective magnification of my cropsensor, 7D Mark IIs, and enjoy the dynamic range superiority of the 5D.So far I have tested the 5D Mark IV attached to a 500 mm f4 with a 1.4X Mark III Extender. One thing I noticed, almost immediately, was a significant increase in autofocus speed and consistency. This has been reported by other reviewers, and I can confirm it. I tried the combination on Lesser Canada Geese taking off at 300 yards range, with excellent results in ideal lighting conditions. As for the increased resolution without loss of dynamic range, that seems to be true also. Using the same 500 mm x 1.4 combination, I shot Rosy Finches in harsh backlit conditions I was able to push shadows 2.25 stops in processing and still maintain excellent color gradation and contrast, as evidenced by the attached picture of a Hepburns Grey Crowned Rosy Finch.Ive a lot more tests to do, but so far I am very satisfied with the body, and I have no regrets at all for making the purchase.

Bought this to take over as my main body for my sixyearold 5D Mark III and was expecting a significant upgrade, but have been a little underwhelmed. This is a very capable camera, as is the Mark III which has performed well with heavy professional use, primarily commercial, photojournalism and nature wildlife still photography. I rarely shoot video, so my comments are only photo related. Initial impressions after several jobs and lots of testing are Most important features, similar to the Mark III, are lowlight high ISO shooting and silent drive which are great for available light events similar to weddings. The Mark IV does well in these situations, but not significantly better than its predecessor. I comfortably shoot at 3200 ISO with the Mark III, and might go 23 to 1 stop higher with the Mark IV. Autofocus is good, but still has familiar issues. There are so many different patterns and options, and they all seem to work well in certain conditions but then fail miserably in others. I have the same issues with long lens wildlife photography in quick changing circumstances as with the 5DIII. Tracking is a bit faster but accuracy isnt much improved. Both cameras produce great files, and added pixels arent a big priority for me. New Mark IV features like touch screen LCD and dualpixel raw dont add much for me, either. Color balance is noticeably different on Mark IV, which is a slight bother in processing. Overall, this is a great camera, but only a modest upgrade from the 5D III. Hopefully it will be as durable and reliable.

Probably the last in a line of great cameras with a lineage going back to the Canon T90 which laid out the path of camera design right up to the dawn of the mirrorless age. Whilst there has never been a perfect camera and probably never will be the 5D Mark IV is the pinnacle of 30 years of SLR camera development from Canon. Its ergonomically almost perfect, supremely rugged and reliable with superb picture quality. While with the possible exceptions of ergonomics it may not lead the pack in any category it has risen above the sum of its capabilities and is a truly classic camera. It can be taken anywhere in the world, in any environment and take consistently excellent pictures without fail. What more could be asked of any camera. Just as well I have no interest whatsoever in video

As a Canon user and owning the 1Ds MKII prior to purchasing the 5D MK IV, this was a bit awkward moving down to the smaller body camera. I purchased the battery grip for the extended battery life and the availability to shoot portrait orientation. People have issues with the cameras video function, but i could care less about the video features and the file sizes it creates. This was a stills photography purchase and High ISO performance and image quality was what I was looking for in the camera. I made the correct choice. First Canon has the best glass period. Second, Canon Speedlites are top notch for flash photography, Third, the addition of a full function touch screen is outstanding. Canons menus are easy to navigate and the addition of WiFi and GPS is a bonus. Indeed Nikon has set the mark with the D810 with 36 MPs and Canon has fallen short in terms of resolution but at 30.4 MPs the image quality is fantastic. Canon has the rich color and pop in the photos that I was seeking. If your in the Canon camp and are looking for even better image quality then the 5D MK IV will hit the mark. Has Canon left a bit on the table No doubt as I am certain they are already working on the 5D MK V. I am curious to see if Canon posts a Firmware update soon that will improve or add features to this body. Do to the timing and release date, Im sure Canon needed to get the camera out ASAP. Once the smoke clears you will see the ratings on this body improve. More time in the hands of knowledgable photographers will prove this to be a worthy contender.

I am not an early adopter, so there is little to say that has not been said before, by others. I will emphasize the most significant reasons I added a 5D Mark IV. The most important factor is the AF, which has not disappointed me, and notably, I have a Nikon D5, for a frame of reference. UnlessUntil we can afford a Nikon supertelephoto, perhaps next year, my best bird combo is the 5D IV and EF 100400L II. My wife shoots Nikon, so it would make sense for our one really expensive telephoto to be a Nikkor.A secondary reason to add the 5D IV is the ability to detect flickering light sources, and synchronize the shutter, for consistent exposures and WB. I already had this valuable capability in my 7D II and 5Ds R cameras, and now have it in my newest generalpurpose DSLR.These two factors were sufficient for me to add a 5D IV. I had skipped the 5D Marks II and III, and while I appreciate my 5Ds Rs resolution, and still love it, the 5Ds R can be quite demanding as a generalpurpose DSLR.I believe my 5Ds R and 5D Mark IV and D5 complement each other quite well.

So I know the reviews for this camera arent so hot. People are upset about Canons innovation and lack of fancy features in the latest generation of the 5D. But for me, this camera is still handsdown a top pick. Its a true everyday professionals working camera and I would take it any day. From going from the 5Dmkiii to the mkiv this is a great upgrade. The sensor is pumping out more megapixels, 4K video with great video autofocus, builtin timelapse, touchscreen, fast frame rates, still fantastic weather sealing, great body construction, perfect feel in the hand and the best menu settings in the camera world. Plus, I love that it takes the same batteries as the previous generation not same battery grip though. Those simple things to me make this still a great camera. Have you tried using the Sony menu functions I can pick up this camera and start shooting with it in the field right out of the box. No learning curve. No weird color profiles that limit functions randomly here and there. Just straight shooting. And speaking of color, the mkIV has great color science. The skin tones are great, but more importantly, the colors look so natural. Not a lot of postproduction color work with the Canons. My only complaints are the video features. Yeah, I would like to see 4K 60fps, 1080 continues at 120fps, fullframe 4K and not the clunky MJPEG codec. But the CLog profile is so great to work with, the autofocus is fantastic and the ease and usability of this camera in video makes my life so easy while out shooting. So for me, its still the best pick out there. The other mirrorless cameras out there getting the hype are great, but theyre still 1 or 2 generations away for me to replace the DSLR.

The touch screen and wifi alone make this 5D the easiest I have seen for working with models. I no longer need to use external expensive and often inoperable means of bouncing my images to an IPAD or IPhone. I can not only take the photo from the device, but I can chance focal points and the camera settings, from the iPad or phone and take the photo, remotely. Looking at the images on the camera is much like using your iPhone. You can swipe and pinch and zoom in on details…etc. The images are slightly sharper, they new features are convenient, and the new weather proofing, seems a little safer, but I honestly didnt shoot in severe weather, so that wasnt that big of a deal for me. I have been using canon bodies for 17 years and I loved a few of the features on my daughters T4i, like face tracking and touch screen focusing and shooting. I know some photogs will find this gimmicky, so those folks will not like the upgrades, but once people try it out, they will realize it saves time between images that require constant focal point changes. Of course, you may still need to know how to do that because those images are slower and for burst, sports and moving subjects, it may not be useful. For models that are not moving…it is amazing.

Im a volunteer photographer with my local Rodeo Court. I shoot portraits, casual shots, parades and grand entries on horseback. Ive only had the camera for about two weeks but it is a wonderful incremental improvement over the 5D Mark II. I probably wont shoot much video but the camera so far has exceeded my expectations. Most of the shots are outdoors and the dynamic range is much improved over the Mark II. I spend much less time in Lightroom fixing the basic shots. On the flip side that may be because Im getting better at getting it right in camera. I was torn between the 5Dsr but decided to go with the Mark IV because the Mark II at 20 Mp was more than I needed and I wanted the option to take a burst of photos which the Mark IV does splendidly. As is usual I gave a great regional store a chance to earn my sale. They were informed that BH was including a 64 GB memory card, an extra battery Watkins and a small camera bag. They were told the Camera Bag wasnt needed and I would be happy if they threw in a memory card as well an extra battery. They refused so BH got my business. The order arrived promptly and in good shape. I couldnt be happier.

Ive shot on 5D Mark IIIs for years, I bought a Mark IV when the shutter died on one of my Mark IIIs after nearly 500,000 shutter actuations. I shoot mostly photojournalism and in tough shooting environmentsconditions and toughtoshoot lighting. I will compare the IV to the III when able to as some of you are probably interested in upgrading and want to see if its worth it. Im not gonna mention much with technical specs, its gonna be more from a photographers point of view. I got a Mark IV the second week it came out so Ive had months to play around with it. ISO The Mark IV ISO 16,000 is similar to what the noise is on the Mark III ISO 6,400. Im able to shoot at 51,200 ISO with usable results, though I dont like pushing it past 16,000 unless I absolutely have to. Focusing The biggest improvement for me over the Mark III is the ability to focus in low light. The difference is night and day vs the Mark III. The Mark IV focuses almost instantly on the subject. Video Tracking When shooting video the Mark IV will automatically track the subject and keep it in focus. It sounds great and works ok, but when the lens is focusing its really noisy even with an external shotgun mic I use cheap mics so maybe its the quality of the RODE I was using. the focus also seems to slip off the subject when tracking so it needs work. Pixels Its a noticeable difference over the Mark III. Dynamic Range Seems to have a better dynamic range. The colors seem to pop out more over the Mark III noticeably. Frames Per Second The Mark IV isnt all that great with fps but it makes the Mark III seem slow when shooting in highsped continuous shooting mode. Wireless THIS has saved me a ton of time when shooting on deadline. Its my favorite part of the camera, I used to think I didnt care about wireless on a camera until I used it. Its confusing to set up and connect at first but once you figure it out it works great. If you shoot on a deadline this is something you might really want. You can also use a cell phone when shooting in Bulb Mode for long exposures and that works well. The only complaint is the camera will disconnect from a cell phone when sending photos. Overall Im really impressed with the Mark IV. The ISO is a huge improvement over the previous model and with the improvement on dynamic range I feel like my Mark III is lacking never thought this till I had a Mark IV. I thought the ISO and fps is all I would care about in the Mark IV but there are too many improvements to list them all. The wireless has become a serious part of my workflow when uploading to editors and getting images out as events happen. I can completely skip uploading images to my laptop. I send images to my phone, edit in Lightroom on my phone, then export the images. All that takes 10 minutes or less. I would highly recommend this camera to serious shooters who are in the market for a new camera. Its better in every area over the Mark III I hope this helped, sorry for any spelling errors.

Was looking at a digital back for my Hasselblad H2. Review not very good for an expensive back. Phase One also out of range. Found reviews on the Canon EOS 5Ds 50.6mp. This camera bridged the gap from medium format, and in addition, I already have several lenses that work perfectly. This camera is Not for Video, It is an extremely wonderful camera for landscape still photography. It is easy to use and comfortable to hold and carry. This is a camera to keep.

Recently purchased this camera and I absolutely love it Granted I replaced my 5D classic with this camera but none the less the quality of the photos it captures is great. The high iso capability is great for dark event rooms and I havent had any focusing issues in low light situations yet. The battery life is great and I can get through an entire reception on 1 battery and still have power to spare. This camera is also packed full of settings and features. Canon really went all out on this camera. If you are a canon user, you absolutely need to have this camera in your bag.

I own the 6D Mark II and the 5D Mark IV. They have about the same picture quality. The 5D is a workhorse made to last and full rich features. Focussing system is complex and powerful. The buttons layout is top of the line. My only deception I would have been pleased with more megapixels. For the rest I give 5 stars.

I received a request to review this camera about a week after receiving the mk4. I felt that at the time, it was unfair to do an honest review because I have not had the opportunity to run it through its paces. Another factor was the late release of RAW support. Well, after several events and most recently a wedding I have to say that Im extremely happy with the purchase of this product. So here is a list of my favorite features 1. the touch screen dual pixel AF is an absolute Joy to use. It is EXTREMLY accurate Its at number one for a reason 2. full touch screen functionally So much easier to scroll through the menu and scroll through your images 3. the autofocus has greatly improved, although its the same 61 points found on the 5d35dsr it feels snappier and locks on quicker. 4. wifi Social media almost in real time. The ability to transfer files to your Mobil phone, edit and quickly send it out has been so much fun and is a breeze to do 5. although I do not do video, the 4k video is sharp and my favorite part, pulling the perfect expressions with the ability to pull high res frame grabs My two year old son will have the greatest memories and expressions captured by this 6. the improved file handling Dynamic Range though not a big deal for me, The behavior of the RAW files handle so much better and the ability to recover files have much more versatility Kinda of a bonus for me While there are a few more features not mentioned above, these are my top most liked features My 5d3s have been my workhorses for several years and this camera is definately worth the upgrade. I have tried other systems as well and while they are all great Nikon Sony, there are a few things that canon has, that keeps me with them. Speedlights Lenses As a portrait wedding photographer this is definately worth the upgrade or purchase if you are considering buying.

Getting the perfect picture can often be very difficult, however the Canon 5D Mark IV can make it so much easier. The camera is used by many professional sports photographers, having a 30 to 18000 shutter speed makes it easy to capture that perfect motion shot. Whether taking pictures on a beautiful hike or at a baseball game, this camera can capture an amazing shot. The Canon 5D Mark IV EOS successfully captures the beauty of a moment with a shutter speed of 30 to 180000 which is an amazing quality in the use of capturing inmotion pictures. This amazing camera can take 900 photos per battery, ensuring that it wont die on the move. . The camera also has dual memory card capability, giving the ability to take as many pictures as wanted. Another amazing quality produced by canon with this camera lens that comes with it. The zoom capacity makes for beautiful, clear, and highquality shots. The zoom capability of the camera is 70300mm, perfect for long distance shots. This camera was released in 2016, and although many people say that it is not worth the price, all the amazing qualities, along with the items provided with the camera, make the high price worth paying. This amazing canon camera has many amazing qualities. The camera comes with two lenses, a flash connector for the top, a microphone for high quality videos, and many other items. The Canon 5D Mark IV is also user friendly, so even without camera experience, it is easy to use for that perfect picture.

This review is based on my experience with the 5D Mark IV, nothing to do with the specs.Ease of Use The touch screen works like a smartphone. The touch screen, the custom quick control, the custom mode C1C3, and the reassignable buttons, work so well together and make this camera a joy to use. The wireless, NFC, GPS, existing flashes, and batterycharger are all working.Creativity Tools The HDR, multiple exposure, and others give you ways to try different approaches. The HDR has many options and allows you to save the original RAW and JPG. I also shoot in RAW and play with the picture stylescolors with my imaginations.Peace of Mind I use both CF and SD and record to both and no need to find a computer to copy pictures for backup. The weather sealed body is another plus. Now the not so good The battery grip is less than satisfactory. It cannot quickly attached or deattached, and it offers no battery configuration options like using 1, or 2, or even 3 LPE6s, or AAs.And the bad The camera box was slightly damaged and looked like it was opened and repackaged. I dont know this is the result of BH packaging or Canon quality control. Anyway, this is the only reason I give it 4 stars.

Been a Canon shooter my whole life and this is the camera Ive been waiting for I have previously used 5DMKII, 5DMKIII, 5Ds, 6D. Things I absolutely LOVE The touch screen Its not just a gimmick, it really helps navigate the menus and pinchtozoom is so cool The additional focus selection button Shutter actuation is like warm butter, and the FPS is a welloiled machine The improved series II lens is a big step with ergonomics plus it has a zoom lock WiFi and GPS are actually usable thanks to touchscreen text input Vastly upgraded video capability Cons None. This camera is a keeper. Additional note about the touch screen There may be some folks out there who dislike the touch screen but I feel its been too long coming and should finally be a standard feature on ALL bodies moving forward. Nearly everything else in our lives is touch enabled, our pro gear should be no exception. Menus and selection should just be able to happen without having to fiddle with scroll wheels and awkward joysticks. Touch screen enables this. Plus, in the real world, I was shooting a family and kids and of course, one little boy was being grumpy and shy. I was able to snap a photo of him, then let him see the screen and swipe through the other shots with his finger. This little interaction, only possible with the touch screen, opened him up and saved the shoot

I find the Canon 5D Mark IV to be everything and more than I had expected.I am a professional wedding and portrait photographer. This body is perfect for my needs. There are so many ways to customize the functions of the camera that it will definitely make my job easier both in the field and processing the images.I always purchase the battery grip for my Canon bodies. I love the fact that I know I can shoot all day and not have to worry about replacing batteries. Its also nice to be able to have two memory card slots available.Shooting weddings always involves lots of changing lighting and action conditions. This body makes it easy to transition from bright outdoors to dark indoors and more.I like the sensor, focusing system, ISO range, GPS capabilities and more. For me the pros are too many to list. The only Con is the price, but even at that this is a great body.I have been a Photoshop die hard, but I tried the Canon processing software for my nature work. I will probably begin to use the Canon software for all of my nature processing. With this body I also purchased the Canon EF 2470 2.8 and EF 100 2.8 macro lenses. With this equipment and the equipment already in my bag I should be set for many years to come.Ive been shooting with Canon equipment for more than 20 years. This looks like another winning body to me.

I bought the Canon 5D Mark IV as an upgrade to my main camera originally the 6D and so I can expand the type of work that I do namely weddings dual card slot. So far I have not been let down. I could easily seperate this body from the pack and detail every nuance but there are billions of reviews for this body so Ill stick to the oftenly unmentioned. Amongst the community this body is seen as an incremental upgrade to the Canon 5D Mark III and for the basics of function they wouldnt be wrong, the video capabilities although sporting 4K recording are lackluster certainly not momentous enough to spur filmmakers or television to film episodes or movies on it like with the Mark II. 4K is cropped and limited to standard film speeds and for good reason, as canon opted to use the archaic MJPEG codec for video recording, I wouldnt however completely discount it as a pro video option for achieving very high quality 1080P content as this model now offers CLog if you pay for it unfortunately. Low light performance is about on par with the 6D and Mark III with a tad better DR for detail recovery. A however momentous upgrade is to wireless protocol for this model, although both my 6D and 70D offer wifi as an option it is often left off and untouched because its interface as well as limitations in the Canon mobile app leave a lot to be desired, problems abound from unstable connections to the clunky setup and menu system and inability to send full RAW images over wifi. The wifi direct and NFC make sending shots to my phone a breeze allowing me to send content to the cloud for backup.

This is a high powered camera for professional photographers. NOT for beginners as theres no real auto mode. Is water resistant. Takes some getting used to the controls but if you buy this you should already be comfortable with complex controls. Beautiful photos Lowlight amazing, Astro, movement. All of it

I have shot Canon since my first 35mm AE1 Program in the 80s. Moved to the T90, a camera ahead of its time. Then to various eos cameras the past 15 years. My 5d Mk ii has around 200k frames on it and still going strong but it was time to upgrade in case the mkii failed.Working in a small town I have found the need to be very versatile. Weddings, portraits, news, commercial, real estate. I do a bit of everything and this camera is rock solid and produces fantastic RAW files. I also am starting to do more video work and the 1080p video from this camera is very clean, looks great. The focusing system with the touch screen works fantastic. I was filming a wedding in a low light church and the camera tracked everyone well coming up the isle. If it did miss for a second it was not ugly, it gently found focus again without jarring focus hunting I have seen on other brands. How is the 4K Dont know, dont plan on using it. Ridiculous large files, heavy crop, awkward codec. I feel like Canon is saying to everyone we will give you 4k but we wont make it easy. The continuous protection of the Cinema line is starting to get annoying. I bought a used C100 and am very impressed with what Canon could do with a tiny AVCHD file in 2012. The Wide DR profile is perfect for my type of projects, a little flat to give some room for mild color work in post. I put the 5d mkiv on Neutral picture style and dropped the contrast as low as I could, still not a good match to the C100 Wide DR. I have read others that say that matching the cameras is almost impossible, and I dont want to shoot CLog, I am not a pro colorist.. I think Canon should stop seeing the C series and EOS series as completely separate product lines. Put Wide DR on the EOS line, give us focus peaking and zebras. Think about someone like me..am I going to buy a C200 for 7k Nope.. The tipping point will occur.. Sony, Panasonic and Fuji are throwing everything they can into their mirrorless cameras. 4k, variety of bit rates, peaking, zebras..the list goes on.I bought into Samsung with the NX1, I really thought that could be my future brand to replace Canon. Obviously, bad decision on my part, so I am back to Canon for now. Happy..but certainly not thrilled..

Ive only had the camera for a couple of weeks but I have done several tests that show this is a significant step forward for the 5D camera line. I do mostly landscape and nightscape and was really hoping that Canons new sensor was capable of competitive performance as far as dynamic range. I was not disappointed. The Mark III is an excellent camera for nightscapes and does very well at high ISO, but the Mark IV is a little less noisy at high ISO and you can really push the shadows without generating too much noise. Raw files underexposed by three or four stops can be recovered with very good results, something that is just not possible with the Mark III or even the 5DS. The highlights are also easier to recover. The raw files are less saturated and less contrasty than the Mark III files but if you add 5 clarity and about 20 vibrance during raw processing in Lightroom, they are essentially identical. If you shoot JPG the files are very nice right out of the camera. The autofocusing is very sophisticated and fast and the touch screen focusing is almost instantaneous in Live View. Very impressive. I dont often do video so I cant comment on that aspect of the camera, but if you shoot mainly stills, this is a great camera with a lot of latitude for processing to taste. I am most impressed with the touch screen and the dynamic range. Also, if the dynamic range of the scene is just too great, the camera will do incamera HDR processing. You can also do up to seven bracketed images if you would rather blend later in software. Last but not least is the nice bump in resolution from 22 to 30 megapixels. Its not a huge difference but it is definitely nice to have for large prints and cropping. This is a sweet spot between the Mark III and the 5DS that doesnt overtax your computer. In all, a very good all around camera that allows you to concentrate on the scene and not worry about technical shortcomings. Other brands may be a tiny bit better at one thing or another but this camera does everything very well and is a welcome upgrade to the Mark III.

Recently upgraded from Canons 5D Mark III to the 5D Mark IV and those who say that the 5D Mark IV is just an evolution of the Mark III couldnt be more wrong. While I enjoyed my years with the Mark III and still consider it to be an excellent camera, the Mark IV is light years ahead of the Mark III. Better resolution, better dynamic range, better AF, better LCD screen, touch screen and dual pixel AF, better ISO performance, better lowlight performance, WiFiNFCGPS. I could go on and on. Bottom line is that the Mark IV is a prolevel camera capable of producing outstanding images. I cant comment on the video capabilities because I dont do video. And now BH. I have been purchasing my photography equipment from BH for the past several years, but I wish I would have known about BH much earlier. Their selection of photography equipment is huge, their prices are competitive and their customer service is absolutely the best. Although at first I was reluctant to make such high dollar purchases from an outofstate retailer or online, you just cant beat BH.

Core functions of the camera worked fine, sensor was cleaning, processor functions normally however there were some things that have been bugging me since receiving the item. There are some scratches on the top screen which were pictured in listing, shutter button is mushy making it difficult to take consecutive photos accurately, this was also not mentioned in the description. Also the included battery had a pretty terrible recharge rating remaining. Additionally the top scroll wheel is slightly unresponsive, requiring it to be pressed down and scrolled to sometimes register input. With that being said the camera still mostly works well producing great images, and being responsive despite the relatively high usage from previous owner.

I am a professional wedding photographer and bought this camera last December. I started having major focusing problems in April which continually got worse and started missing focus MORE often than not. Sent it in to get fixed along with my 24 70 lens. They repaired the lens but the focus problem remains with the 5d. Super bummed and not sure where to turn but I will not be repurchasing.

Though I havent purchased this camera, I shot with it for a month on a job I did. I find this camera a very well put together price of equipment. It has a nice balence between resolution and high ISO capability. Burst speed is decent, but could definitely be better. If canon could put 5fps in the 5Ds, they could probably have stuck 89fps in the 5D Mark IV. I come from a 7D Mark II, so Ive been spoiled with its autofocus point arrangement. In 7DMII, they are spread further across the viewfinder than the 5DIV, which has them condensed in the center. After updating the 5D with a better autofocus system they might have finished the job. The touchscreen is much more useful than youd think, especially on live view and video modes. I found myself tapping my 7Ds screen whenever I was using its screen. The gps I find useless. Wi Fi I used some, but it would not have hurt to have done without it. The Image quality is great coming from at this time canons newest full frame sensor. I like that the rubber flaps protecting the ports are separated into what you would probably use together. Dual pixel auto focus worked like on my 7D, that is, very good. The shutter was louder than I expected, my 7D is quieter in both normal and silent shutter modes. I liked that the 5D had built in time lapse. Though I played with the video capabilities, I mostly used it for photos. I would this to a friend.

Theres a lot pros and cons so many more qualified folks have commented on but I do agree Canon did not do a very good job with 4k and thats a shame. It is a certainty a lot of Canon video shooters are disappointed and will jump ship for the other companies offering better video solutions. This is why I only gave the camera a 4 star rating. Canon is capable of better and sadly it seems we are going to lose a good portion of our Canon community because of these decisions. However In my view this doesnt make the 5d4 a bad camera or investment depends on what your using it for. I appreciated the BH recent price reduction on the 5d4. No doubt the lower price is a result of Canon releasing an upgraded 5d4 with Canon log soon. My understanding is Canon will eventually offer or already is offering two flavors with or without Canon log. Also appreciated BH throwing in a SanDisk 64GB SDXC a Watson battery and a camera bag FREE. Although it might have been nice if they kept the bag and offered larger capacity SDXC or CF card instead. Most folks ordering a 5d4 body probably already have several camera bags. Still it was nice to get the discount and the goodies thank you BH Upgrade I recently upgraded from a 70d to the 5d4 its been a excellent experience. So far the only thing I miss is the flip screen. I really wish the 5d4 had this feature. Everything else is a HUGE improvement coming from the 70d to the 5d4. Work Flow and Usability As for my work flow Im using the 5d4 70 for still shots of people 15 are scenery shots sometimes with people in them and about 5 video. The 5d4s quick accurate focus is hard to beat especially in some of the low light situations I am in. I have always liked the colors Canon cameras produce again very hard to beat it in my opinion. The 5d4 is no exception the color is great, image quality and dynamic range is decent but more importantly you can count on the images the 5d4 takes to be in focus unless there is a user error some kind. I found the 5d4 menu system terms and layout to be very familiar to that of the 70d so my learning curve was much easier. The button layout is a little different than the 70d but very intuitive easy to catch on to. I really like the way this camera feels in my hands control buttons easily accessed on the fly and customization is easy. I was surprised the 5d4 is lighter than the 5d3 and only about 4oz heavier my 70d with batteries installed. So I dont feel like Im hauling a tank around all day. Also the shutter on the 5d4 is considerably quieter than my 70d. After dong some research I found competitive mirror less cameras were not all that much lighter if your using native f2.8 zooms or your Canon zooms with metabones adapters. Mirror less sensors may produce sharper images but get dirty easier so you can end up with spots on your image. If you change lenses a lot like I do thats real deterrent. Dont have time to clean a sensor on the fly while missing some great shots. Service One other thing I might mention is Canon service and support. Early on I had some real annoying focus issues using the center focus square on my Canon 70d. It was hit and miss. Sent the 70d and the lenses I was having trouble with all under warranty to Canon Service. It took three days shipping each way three days to repair the camera. Canon kept me posted by email through the process . Nine days after shipping the camera to Canon received it back been working fine ever since. So those are a few reasons I decided to stay with Canon for now who knows what the future will bring. The 5d4 should serve me well for the next two or three years do not regret the purchase.

I made the leap to medium format with the Fujifilm GFX 50s back in April, but in order to fold it into my workflow meant giving in to restrictions on what software I could tether to, and adding a step or two getting up and running with adapted lenses, etc.. Not ideal for a working photographer. Good advice from a colleague Dont add any unnecessary steps between arriving to a shoot and starting production, so I ended up moving away from the GFX and wandering back to Canon with my tail between my legs. I wanted to LOVE the GFX and for the most part, I did. It felt great in my hands, the files were impressive, and being able to adapt lenses to a mirrorless system is often tempting. But, for all practical purposes, I am a Capture One user and since Phase One wont support other medium format cameras other than their own I wasnt able to tether to, or edit Fujis .RAF Raw files in Capture One without some EXIFworkaround. I did, however, have the option of tethering to Lightroom Classic CC, but the handling of Fujis raw files on LR is so darn slow, and not that impressive. Also, Im an architectural photographer, so adapting Canons tiltshift lenses was necessary if I were to keep this system. But, right off the bat I did not like what happened when the sensor was able to see more of the lens image circle. I thought it would be a benefit, the angle of view of the 24 TSE was closer to a 19mm, and the 17mm TSE a 14mm, but I learned that Canon never intended for us to see that much of the image circle without shifts. Corners were soft, at f13 mind you, and there was some warping happening near one of the edges.I dont have time for all that. Too much of a headache, and my clients arent going to be impressed by my ability to fix all the things that shouldnt have been an issue in the first place. Also, mind you, batterys on a mirrorless dont last nearly as long as an DSLR.So, back to Canon I went. Ive been a longtime user of the Canon system, since the AE1 and through. Digital for me started with the 20D, then the 40D, 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III, and now the Mark IV.Impressive camera, the Mark IV Not really. Its becoming the Toyota Camry of the early 2000s. Reliable, not too pretty, will go the distance, and you get what you pay for.Design has not been Canons strong suit. The 1D X II is a pretty looking camera in my book at least for the Canon line, Im considering. But, still, its just a pair of a 58 year old white mans New Balance walking sneakers. A 20MP sensor on the flagship And, selling for 5500 and up Who at the meeting for that cameras design was asleepAt least they are incrementally improving the 5D line… slowly. And, the price point is a bit more accessible. Are their better cameras out there, for the price Yup.Not the 5DSr, though. Again, what were they thinking Another analogy… I love Crayons, my daughter loves them, too. Growing up, a 64pack was the gem of their offering. Imagine that same 64Crayon box today, crammed with 128 Crayons. You guessed it, all the same Crayons cut in half to make space because the box didnt get bigger. Try coloring now, with your swollen, overly large man hands. Doesnt work.Anyway, does the Mark IV do a great job when matched with their top lenses, and those from well made thirdparty glass Yup.Will it just plug right in and get rolling without any hiccups Yup.Thats all, though. Enough said. One thing that does annoy my about the camera I rely on a level camera to get me started during the compositional stage of shooting, and the electronic level on the viewfinder is annoying to say the least. Its very small and doesnt do any better a job than a large bubble level. liken it to an auxiliary audio jack in a prebuiltinbluetooth car… cool.Do better Canon. You have the means and the users.

I am a professional photographer and provide corporate photography work all over the nation and my choice is Canon, not that I dont like Nikon but that is what I use and I am passionate about this brand. Canons consistent drive to develop and produce cameras that are always rated the highest in my opinion is what keeps me buying their products. What I like about the Mark IV is the following30.4 CMOS Sensor If you like to shoot large files this will be more than satisfyingDual Pixel CMOS AF with minimum focusing brightness of EV4 In laymans terms Focusing in Low Light during Live ViewTouch Screen functionality You can take shots by tapping the LCD Screen to focus and release the shutter, enlarge the image playback and see the next frame. I received my Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR a couple of weeks ago and I feel like a professional again. Its got some good weight to it which helps with steady handling. My other camera has literally fallen apart over the past few years with all the plastic parts. I may as well have been using my phone, which is embarrassing. The Canon gives me my confidence back as I will be shooting, probably, my last wedding next year at age 75. So glad I made the purchase and thank you to the BH experts who helped me through 55 years in my business with each and every piece of equipment I have gotten. Its been a great journey.

Im using this camera mostly for real estate and architectural still photos. I am pairing it with the new Canon 1635mm f2.8 Mark III lens. Its a major upgrade from my previous setup an 80D with a Sigma 1020mm f3.5. The improved sensor along with a fast wideangle lens handles low light interiors very well. The touch LCD screen is very convenient, and it would be hard to switch back now that Ive used it. The autofocus features are a significant improvement, and the new AF field select button on the back is very useful. Like everyone else, my main negative comment is in regards to the 4K video. I dont even mind the 1.6x crop factor that much, but the motion jpeg codec produces file sizes that are completely unusable for me. It fills a 128GB memory card in less than 30 minutes. The 1080p footage looks great, and its easier to work with in post, so Ill probably never use the 4K. I had high hopes for the WiFi features as well, but it needs work in my opinion. Its difficult to connect the smartphone app, and the app itself seems like a beta version. Hopefully, it will improve, and we will get a firmware update soon. Overall, its the best still camera Ive ever owned or used, and it provides a major image quality improvement to my work. Its not perfect, but it is the stateoftheart at the moment, so Im going to keep it around for awhile.

I used it for a few days and found it just wasnt for me. I knew the file size would be big, but didnt realize how humongous. It would fill up my hard drive very quickly. While I found it does take awesome images, its very sensitive to the least bit of unsteadiness. For my 74 yr old arms, it was difficult to hand hold and get a decent image. Its a fabulous camera, but not for me.

Terrific image quality for the most part, and good features. A real workhorse that I use for portrait, landscape, architecture, photojournalism, and family photos. I appreciate the step up from the 5D3 in resolution, dynamic range, and lowlight performance. Autofocus also is noticeably better, though I still have trouble in difficult situations like photographing flying birds. Tapping on the screen to focus video is tremendously useful, and navigating settings menus with the touch screen also is a lot faster. My complaints battery life is significantly worse than with my prior camera bodies, the 5D2 and 5D3, and WiFi image transfer is extremely slow. Canons software is a bear to set up and use, too, for setting up the transfer. For the price, that should all work much better. Finally, its a disgrace it isnt able to shoot 4K video with the full frame. I love Canon SLR ergonomics, but Sony is pushing the technology much faster. It was worth it for me stepping up from the 5D3, but may not be for all 5D3 owners.

I bought the 5D to replace a 6D and I havent been disappointed. Its quite a big jump up in price compared with the 6D, which reflects the general robustness of the camera as much as the additional features, resolution and the boost in dynamic range. Unlike some other manufacturers bodies it doesnt feel overburdened with features Ill never use it just works. For me the measure of a good camera is that it doesnt get in the way of what I want to do, and the 5D fits this requirement. As a longtime Canon user, the menus and button placements are all fairly familiar from the start, which helps a lot.I like the touchscreen a lot, particularly for navigating menus and the touch focussing in Live View, and it work well with gloves on too. The focussing is clearly a lot more sophisticated than Ive had before, with focussing points available across a much wider area in the viewfinder. The twin card slots are very useful too, although I dont understand why Canon didnt fit two SD slots rather than one SD and one CF.So far, the camera has just done what Ive wanted and has performed perfectly even in very cold conditions cold enough for there to be a layer of frost on the body and lens.

My fullframe experience began with the 5D Mark II, which shot supersharp images with the right lens but was marred by shadow banding, too much color noise, a slow buffer rate, and a very limited autofocus system that struggled in the shadows. Then, I moved to the 5D Mark III, which had a muchimproved autofocus system with a central focusing point sensitive down to an aperture of f8 but did little to improve lowlight image qualityor many of the other deficiencies of the Mark IIand, furthermore, in my opinion, shot softer images than the Mark II with the same lens. Now, in the 5D Mark IV, Ive found a camera that is a significant upgrade from its predecessorsin most respects. The 30.4 MP resolution has proven valuable for shooting distant subjects. Since the focal range of my lenses extends up to only 600 mm, I often need to crop photos of distant subjects, such as birds or bears, in order to get closeups. In doing so, I retain more resolutionand therefore sharpnessthan I did with the 22.3 MP Mark III.At first glance, the autofocus system in the Mark IV seems just like the one in the Mark III and, in fact, the layout of the focusing points is pretty much identical. However, all 61 points of the Mark IV are sensitive down to f8. And this, coupled with some other underthehood improvements, makes a WORLD of difference while focusing in lowlight In many scenarios where the Mark III would take seconds to focus, the Mark IV focuses practically instantly. While shooting with available light indoors or outdoors in the early morning or late evening, this often makes the difference between getting the shot and not. So, this is, in my opinion, the most substantial improvement introduced by the camera. The autofocus system also incorporates a Canonspecific technology called dualpixel autofocus, which allows the sensor to be in autofocus mode and imaging mode at the same timeso that, for example, when you put the camera in Live View mode and tap your subjects position on the screen, the camera immediately focuses on the subject and takes the photo. By comparison, with the Mark III, the camera first had to focus on the subject, then change to imaging mode, and then take the picture. The intermediate step introduces a lag, which is almost always noticeable when photographing a moving subject.Down to noise performance. According to the average professional review, the Mark IV is between twothirds of a stop and one stop better than the Mark III. However, my unprofessional comparisons show that theres very little practical difference between the two. Note that I have not gotten down to a nittygritty numerical analysis however, at ISO 1600, 3200, and 6400, my eyes perceive just as much noiseperISO for the Mark IV as for the Mark III with the same object, lens, and lighting. BUT, at ISOs beneath 1600, the Mark IV does appear to have an edgebut just barely. The dualpixel raw capability is nice if you want to have a little more latitude for editing a particular photo. I tried it with some flower petals at f1.4 and was able to readjust the focal plane by a few millimeters closer and farther. While this may help in some finicky situations, I dont see myself using it very often. I does slow down the buffer rate quite a bit.I often travel, so the GPS is nice for cataloging photos by location. Furthermore, I often tinker with astrophotography, using an attached telescope and the GPS data is useful for determining the relative position and timing of a particular event. And everything else. The camera does achieve the advertised shooting rate of 7 photos per second, which is nice when needed. Though the controls are identical to those of the Mark III, I find using the touchscreen to be more efficient when activatingdeactivating functions that have been embedded within the menus. The wifi capability is awesome for remote shooting no more cables but, as expected, it substantially reduces battery life. Furthermore, transferring photos to a computer is still much faster with a card jack.Disclaimer Im a stills shooter so Im unqualified to comment on the video capabilities of the camera. In all probability, my Mark IV will never shoot a video.

Purpose Portrait, Street, and Landscape Photography Other Cameras Owned Rebel SL1 for travel and casual photos Previously Owned 5D Mark II Rebel t2i Important to Note Canon Log or CLog as it is known will be available in July for 5D Mark IV for video grading. It is true that the 4K file sizes are enormous in any camera for sure but this camera certainly. You may need to get new SD cards, new computer, new software, new monitors and the list goes on again for any 4K camera. It crops the image in 4K which people complain about but many expensive video cameras crop as well RED to name one. OK Enough about video. This camera is meant for taking stellar stills. Why I didnt get the Sony A7RII or A9 1 That darn electronic viewfinder, A7RII slow to write to card which is not useable professionally, already owned several Canon lenses which yes you can use with the Sony. Actually looking at sidebyside comparison between the two cameras, there is very little noticeable difference in quality of the photos. Canon color is superior straight out of the camera which saves time for me and the 5D Mark IV allows previous Canon users to feel immediately at home. Additionally the build quality of these cameras is superior. I dropped my Mark II once on Castle stone in New England, camera remained almost completely unscathed aside from a scratch. What I love about the new 5D Mark IV compared to Mark II Its just a joy to use and produce content with. Makes me and my clients happy. Autofocus improvements are enormous. Using Live View, and touch screen to focus has been much more helpful than originally imagined. Face tracking is very very good. Lowlight capability is improved Pictures are that much sharper with modest increase in MP. Remember guys gals, if youre pictures aint sharp with this bad boy its probably not the camera, make sure youre using a fast shutter speed and fast lens if you dont have IS. WiFi GPS are actually very nice additions which I didnt really care about when I bought the camera. The WiFi tethering aside from being able to see photos quickly on my iPad no need for WiFi network can tether directly to smartphone and also allows me to setup a live viewing table for guests to view the photos of the night as theyre taken I finally stopped being stubborn and used the EOS Utility software which I never used on my Mark II. Features some good additions for the Mark IV such as GPS logging shows path explored as well as saving preset metadata for your photos etc. Now, while I would like every camera to have 50MP, amazing lowlight, 5000 focus points, etc. we have to remind ourselves that Canon does need to make a profit somewhere and at some point you gotta ask yourself how many MP and focus points do you really need. The 5D Mark II even though its almost 10 years old is still a phenomenal camera. Advertising at work. Cons Price but I will say that you can make back the money you spent with this thing if you are using it professionally. If you are not using it professionally and money is a big issue check out some more reasonable cameras where the quality is almost just as good. 6D Mark II should be coming out soon. 6D is a great camera while price is low. Even the Rebel SL1, t7i etc. are phenomenal cameras. If you have the money, are debating between Canon, Nikon, and Sony, and dont want to have to worry about being gentle with a 3K5K camera setup like with Sony, just buy this thing, its just a great camera.

I have used 6D, 7Dii, then the 5DsR and just now the 5D Mk IV. To me, this is the goto camera but i do miss the 50MP awesome sensor if i crop. In short, this is IMO the best Canon camera to date for stills photographers. You get all the stuff you know and love from the 5D, plus a betternewer sensor, a very responsive touchscreen that works GREAT, a couple more pretty useful buttons on the back, great image quality and DR, the best IMO user interface i have used Sony quite a bit and Nikon a little but Canons UI is by far the best IMO. BUT .. you also get that low pass filter that Canon needs to get rid of already. I dont shoot fabrics all day long but i NEVER got moire from the 5DsR. So, remove that AA filter already Canon Dont disable it, remove it For the videographer, in a nutshell, Canon just wants you to buy a dedicated 4k camera. Thats about it. You do get 4k from this 5D camera but it is MJPG i.e. extremely huge files that are very slow to work with and no real gain in quality. With that said, you can extract 8MP stills from that video and they look good for their resolution. I personally am ok with the crop in 4k since i dont take much video in closed spaces and do not need the wide angle, but it can be a real problem for some Those that wish fullframe 4k read out from this camera, forget it it is not something we will see in a firmware update. Now, in FHD the video is pretty good actually and in very usable MP4 or MOV files with various frame rates and less crop, almost not at all. I just wish for a firmware upgrade that will add MP4 format to 4k. Finally, also for video, it has to be mentioned that the Dual Pixel AF works GREAT and it is an amazing feature to be able to touch the screen and pull focus in such a smooth way Of course the 70D and 80D can also do that in FHD for much less . Other things you probably know already, is that you can use the same battery as your other 5D6D7D cameras but the extension grip wont work and you need to buy a new one. The GPS works great and the logger is cool to have. NFC is extremely easy to use with the cellphone app, but WiFi to cellphone connection, for me, has been a hitormiss thats for iPhone Android. I just use NFC, tap the cellphone to the side of the camera and done everything is connected automatically thats for Android. You can also email or upload pictures and videos directly using WiFi, this is also easy to setup email, Canon Gateway, Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, Google Drive, etc. In conclusion, i think this is the best Canon camera so far for stills and anyone that is ok with FHD video. 4k is there but .. the huge files 8GB for 2 min can be a pain to use. Canon please add MP4 for 4k video in a firmware update

To upgrade my kit to the full frame Canon, this camera is a beast compared to my 7D Mk II which in MHO is also amazing when Im doing birding. The 5D Mk IV is probably about to be updated as this model is years old in production, but it is no slouch and can run with the best out there.Quality is impeccable and it fits in my large hands like a pair of custom leather gloves and the functionality is top notch. Menus are accessed easily thru the touch screen or buttons and wheels. Programming options to personalize things are many.I can highly recommend Canons 5D Mk IV to anyone with large hands and the desire for a full frame DSLR they will not outgrow.

As reference, Im a professional videographer whose footage has been featured in numerous network sciencenatureeducational documentaries and museum exhibits worldwide. I specialize in extreme macro, micro and tele footage.I really wanted to love this camera having shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 7D for close to 10 years and owning a slew of Canon glass and accessories. But, sadly, this camera can not compare to the Sony A7R III in 4k with which Ive done extensive sidebyside testing and which Im keeping instead. Here are the Canons three biggest limitations for 4k video1. It shoots in the archaic and highly inefficient MJPEG codec which creates gargantuan file sizes that required me to purchase multiple 256 GB cards at 300 a pop right out the door and wouldve required the purchase of five times as many storage drives compared to Sonyshot footage. Whats worse it shoots at a bitrate of 500Mbs which wouldve required me to purchase a new, more powerful computer or an expensive external graphics card for smooth playback.2. It uses a 1.74 crop in 4k which effectively turns a 24mm lens into a 42 I was forced to purchase Canons 1,000 extrawide 1635mm lens to compensate. Actually, I loved the idea of the 1.74 crop since I shoot a lot of extreme tele and macro and this gives me a lot of free effective length, but the Canon locks you into 1.74 so youre forced to swap lenses any time you want to go from long to wide and back to long again. By comparison, the Sony A7R has a 1.5 crop that is OPTIONAL. You can instantly go from wide to long with the push of a button. Whats more Sony has an additional feature that gives you an additional 1.5 zoom factor which gives impressive telephotomacro results, and believe me, Im very picky. With the Sony I can effectively turn a 400mm lens into 900mm with no apparent deterioration. I can achieve an effective 1,260mm when I add a Canon 1.4 extender, with virtually no loss in in quality. BTW, while many reviews site an additional 1.2 crop on the Sony when shooting at 30 fps, that only applies to the A7, NOT the A7R which uses a different 42 MP sensor. There is NO additional crop difference between shooting 30 fps or 24 fps on the A7R.3. Rolling shutter jellocam artifacts are much more severe on the Canon compared to the Sony A7R. I was amazed at how minimal they are on the Sony having shot with cameras with rolling shutters for close to ten years now. This was not necessarily a dealbreaker since you always have to pick your shots carefully when shooting with cameras with rolling shutters, but the reduced artifacts of the Sony opens more shot possibilities.Bottom line, Canon has been resting on its laurels since the introduction of the 5D Mark II where did that genius gowas it a fluke and can no longer compete with Sony I regret to say. I get the sense that the Sony A7R is much more of a video camera, while video is becoming an afterthought for the Canon DSLR line. Sony has zebras, peaking, time code generation and external 4k recording Canon does not. Sony shoots 120 fps at 1080 Canon can only do 60fps at 1080. Being mirrorless, I can actually look through the viewfinder on the Sony while Im shooting which is great for bright light conditions not so the Canon which requires a 3rd party viewfinder like the Zacuto when shooting in bright light. Sony has a titling LCD screen Canons is fixed. I can run an external monitor from the Sony without losing picture on Sonys LCD screen or viewfinder the Canon LCD shuts off when connecting to an external monitor so theres no sharing with another crew person. Sony has Slog AND HLG Canon has only Clog. One hit on the Sony as far as Slog and HLG, though, is that the milky images typical of uncorrected log gamma are difficult to see on the Sony LCDviewfinder, while the Canon has a feature, if you select it, that enables you to see enhanced color and definition on the LCD even when shooting in CLog. I have not found such a feature on the Sony.I should point out that the Sony A7R does NOT have antialiasing, which results in sharper images which I love, but also leads to moire artifacts in some subjects. The Canon has A.A. which practically eliminates moire artifacts, but at the expense of very slightly reduced sharpness. Why cant Canon and Sony have optional A.A. so you can pick when you need itBTW, Im keeping all my Canon glass, etc., and using a Metabones adapter, which loses some lens functionality, but Ive always shot manual anyway, so this is not a big concern. I will also keep the awesome Canon 1635 wide angle zoom for my gimbal work. There is still much to love about the Canon 5D Mark IV the look, the rugged feel, the build quality, easy menu navigation, larger buttons, the exceptionally bright LCDviewfinder, the robust builtin timelapse capability, the fact that it is true 4k, not UHD like the Sony and this has not been an easy decision, so if 4k is not a concern, I would say absolutely go for for the Canon. Sadly, I will have to return mine with the hope that Canon will eventually introduce a DSLR or mirrorless camera that can compete with the A7R in 4k.BTW, some argue that Canon has purposely crippled the 5D Mark IV so it wont compete with their cinema line. That makes no sense to me since it really only pushes people like me toward equivalent priced but superior cameras like the Sony A7R. Wake up, Canon

I finally made the decision to go to a full frame camera after years using a crop sensor. The increase in dynamic range is stunning. The 5D4 sensor can pull up color detail out of shadows that was lost on my old crop sensor. The increased light sensitivity is also great for birds hiding in the shadows of the forest. Probably my favorite feature of this camera is the dynamic range available. This isnt a beginners camera. You can automate everything if desired, but youre wasting a lot of money if thats your thing. This is a pro camera that readily allows you to control all aspects of your shooting. Paired with a 300mm f4L and a 1.4x teleconverter, this camera will give you amazing pictures.

First I must say how BH will from now on be the only place I go to for all of my photographic needs. Their customer service is unequal. Abes of Maine, is a disaster, BH is the only way to go.Ease of use and reliability is exactly why I buy Canon, the Mark IV is no different. We can agree the Mark II was disaster, this camera more than makes up for it. The wifi feature was the first I took advantage of. Taking photos and immediately sending them to my clients phone upped my game, or at least the client thought so. Once she has the photos on her phone, she can text or email her boss and get instant confirmation that their images or on the right track.

I have tried many cameras Sony, Leica, Nikon, Fuji and several Canon models including the new R series. The RF lenses are, for the most part awesome awesome prices too but the camera cant keep up with the 5D Mark IV. Out of the many thousands of pictures I have taken the 5D Mark IV has produced more outstanding pictures than the rest combined. Paired with classic EF L glass in the crunch when speed, focus, light ,color and clarity need to combine to create art the 5D comes through If you have time to set up, plan, use a tripod , get the best light , operate in good weather, experiment with lenses and shots good photographers can make great pictures with many cameras. But in the crunch in funky weather, or when you cant ever get that shot again…..give me the tank.Yes, your mileage may vary, but make sure youve tried one before you doubt….

I come from a video background, but have recently moved to photography. So naturally I was torn between this and the Sony A7sii. The reason I chose the 5D MkIV is that it has an edge on photos while also performing as a great video camera. There are a few things in video that you do sacrifice over the A7sii, like the x1.7 crop factor when filming 4k the Canon 7D has similar crop factor, so doesnt concern me, not as great grain structure in low light and not the same slow motion capabilities. However, you would be hard to deny that in an average video setup, this camera records great video and has certainly been undermined since Clog is now available for this camera. I see this camera as a best of both worlds I guess to be able to have your cake and eat it too. This camera works wonders for video and photography, and to get that from one camera is fairly great for its price.

About one month ago I sold my 7d and 5D MkIII and purchased a new 5D MkIV. Having used the MkIII for several years, the transition to the MkIV was straightforward. The menus are very familiar and easy to navigate, and I was up and running within minutes. The camera is very solidly built and just feels great in my hands. So far, the things about the MkIV that impress me most are the resolution of the new sensor, dynamic range of the RAW files and vastly improved image quality at highISOs. Although I rarely shoot above ISO400, recently Ive been shooting cities and landscapes from a doorsopen helicopter, handheld. This is pretty demanding shooting, requiring fast shutter speeds, fast glass and excellent highISO performance frequently ISO6406400 in sunrise or sunset light. The dynamic range and highISO performance of the MkIV are incredible vastly improved over the MkIII. I can shoot at high ISO and pull detail from shadows or highlights in the RAW files with little to no visible noise. The new sensor also gives incredibly sharp images excellent detail throughout the tonal range. Couldnt be happier with this upgrade.

This canon 5d Mark IV is one of the best autofocus selection systems Ive used in a while. It has just the right amount of everything. I typically shoot convert with my 70200 IS 2.8L and this lens connects so well with this body. One of the flaws Ive found is when you have your right hand on the camera, your nails scratch against the body and end up leaving scratch marks. Now, the marks are easily rubbed off but the coating or black paint they used this go around seems to be a little less strong and without a good and luster finish coat. For me, customization is huge and the 5d Mark IV has all of that. The amount of customization you have with how the AF works and how much you can control what each button does and you home screen where you look at your settings, you can customize that layout too which I find very handy. Its nice to have my kelvinsWB easy to access as well as switching shooting file formats or folders. My overall rating, 74100

Preordered this camera to upgrade my 5D Mark II, so all the features have been vastly improved from my vantage point. Im primarily a stills shooter, but also shoot some video too. Tons of in depth reviews online that would be more insightful, but here are my thoughts. The AF system and touch screen functions, especially in Live View with video, are great. The higher resolution sensor is welcomed, lower noise, higher dynamic range and faster burst rates are nice too. The builtin WiFi GPS are helpful, but should have been a given. Most shooters on a budget do wish this was an allinone still and video workhorse, but Canon is reserving coveted video features for their dedicated cinema cameras and lenses. Although Im invested in Canon glass, I continue to monitor the other options like the Sony mirrorless models as they continue to make gains in options and quality. Overall, I love the camera as its a major upgrade from the Mark II, but Ill be curious as to what competitors come out with in the near future since a Mark V is years away.

I almost got caught up in the madness with the mirrorless systems coming out. Im coming from the 6D Mark ii. The retail price of the new models coming out are not going to be cheap. Why should they be Canon charges too much for their gear, and people buy it. I did purchase the EOS R and shot with it for a week and took it back. It felt like a toy in my hands. And even though theres an adapter for all my EFs to mate up, at some point I would have bought the RF lenses for the sake of using the lens system that camera was made for. They say the adapter for EF to RF is without sacrifice of quality. Well then they should have built the mirrorless with an EF mount. Think about that… I did. Then I spent 2500 on the 5D4. and will use L glass with it. Just picked up a used 70200 F4 IS for 500. How long do you think it will be until the RF lenses show up on ebay The 5D4 is not obsolete and the L glass is the perfect match. The way I see it is if the L glass and 5D4 were and still are being used by the pros, its good enough for this amateur. I have used the 5D4 before and loved it. And no, Im not missing the flippy screen on my 6D2. If I find the need, Ill use the Canon Connect app as my display.

I mostly do corporate photography and video so I was looking for something that did well at both. For photography this is my favorite camera with a perfect balance of resolution and low noise and a perfectly laid out body design and easy quick menus. I can now do single shots in landscape photography that I had to do HDR before to get enough DR. Now I can expose for the highlights and pull up shadows with no noise something people have been practicing on sony and nikon cameras for a while. I dont care that much about the huge 4K file sizes and thats all anyone talks about on this camera so I wont bother talking about it… I shoot a few broll shots in 4K and it does quite well for me. I dont want 4K on interviews and other long shots even if it is a better codec because its still too much. If you shoot it right you dont need it. This camera is also a great option for architectural and real estate photography. DR is almost always a problem for both and the professional connections in canons bodies are great for flash and computer connectivity. Built in level in both viewfinder and info screen are essential for this type of work and they do the job perfectly. Things I love autofocus system pentaprism viewfinder body design dual pixel cmos sensor resolution touch screen Things to improve DR is still not as good as a couple of other cameras on the market. Dual pixel lightfield tech could be further refined. Video features codecs, higher frame rates, zebra, focus peaking, etc. burst rate up to at least 10fps would be good.

I upgraded to the 5D Mark IV last year it was the best decision I could have made on a camera purchase. I love the feel of the camera in my hands the ease of navigation between settings. The touch screen is a great added bonus saves time and makes photo sessions run a little smoother. This camera has dual card slots wifi so when needed, I am able to quickly transfer images from the camera to my iPhone with ease. I feel like theres plenty of features and that I learn something new that I can do with it all the time. I love the HDR mode and just the general options the creativity boundaries are endless. Great focus system with this one Great professional buy. The battery life with this camera isnt as great as other Canon cameras that I ownuse, but I just keep a couple of extra handy for long days of shooting. Highly recommend this buy if youre looking for a top of the line piece of equipment for professional photography or video. Pair this with a luxury lens wow

I shoot commercial advertising work and have been using the 5d MKII and MKIII since both releases so this was a really exciting upgrade. I was hoping Canon would deliver on specs but knowing theyre conservative nature I was not expecting anything mind blowing. This camera may lack some of the bells and whistles that Sony or others have but as far as solid, beautiful, big images this camera is a huge leap from the MKIII. The autofocus improvement is huge. I like the MKIII system but this is so fast and so precise its amazing. I have only shot with it 2 times now as the Camera RAW for Lightroom was only recently released but the files I have gotten back are fantastic. Compared to the MarkIII theres more usable latitude, highlights recover very nicely and shadows lift great as well. If you became accustomed to a grading workflow with your MKIII files you will have a learning curve with these. I had a very definite preset that I could apply to 95 of my images as a starting point that I now have to relearn. Probably the biggest thing for me is the wifi. With the MKIII I was using USB 2 to tether and the buffers would always fill transferring RAW files, I would have to constantly restart lightroom and recently Lightroom and EOS Utility were fighting over the USB connections so I had to delete EOS Utility. However with the wifi now I can use my MacBook Pro as an FTP and transfer a 17MB medium jpg straight to the computer, then autoimport to Lightroom and we have a great file for clients to review as we shoot. The speed is similar to what I was getting with USB 2 transferring RAW files. This for me is huge. Once you get it setup it is actually pretty quick to reconnect and get up and running. Having a preplanned folder setup helps with the import as it is a bit of roundabout way but it works great for me. The battery life is severely impacted of course but Im still getting 23 hours of straight use per battery. This camera is 100 worth the upgrade.

Let me start this review by mentioning that I have been a Canon user since 1996 with my first SLR purchase and since then I have owned 4 DLSR cameras and many lenses. My primary interest is in nature and wildlife photography. I purchased this 5D Mark IV camera after I accidentally dropped my Mark III in ocean water on the beach and I have owned this camera since Nov 2019. Few weeks ago I was getting the camera ready for use and I started getting this error which basically said that the camera cannot communicate with the battery. Camera will then ask you if you are using original Canon battery. I have always used original Canon batteries for all my cameras so I tried to see if it will fix the error by using my other older batteries and I kept getting same error. This experience with a brand new camera has been very bad for me and I have sent it out for repairs and I am hoping that the warranty covers the repair cost that is estimated at over 450.I will update this review after my repairs are done and I get back my camera.Canon, I am hoping you will take care of your loyal customers like me.

A current owner of a 5DMKIII, I was attracted to the extra perks of having a touchscreen on the rear which I found to be exceedingly helpful and expeditious and as well the wireless transfer function. Besides those, the MK IV ROCKS Great focus AIAE…obviously all 7 my Canon lenses love the addition and vice versa Ive only hsd the MKIV a month and yet feel VERY comfortable shooting Canons Customer Service is 10 stars as well when it comes to having inquiries on a specific function andor not knowing what a function pertains to I love my Canon equipment and I always will

So we own 2 1dx mark iis and a 5d mark iv and I FREEKING LOVE THIS CAMERA for sooooo many reasons. Photo quality is super super accurate and clean. I love the images. Video is the game changer for me. Check out our work at shutterfreek.com but take my word for it, when you shoot video looking through the eye glass at the digital display, youll see things in an entirely new and creative way The in camera stabilization is ROCK SOLID The ONLY THING lacking on this camera…is 120p HD. If it had that, I would have no qualms using it as much or more than or 1dxs. At first I was frustrated by it not having a joystick…but being able to slide my thumb around the back lcd to adjust the focus point is potentially faster than a joystick. Shooting liveview is flawless. The motion tracking is superb. Really cant say enough good things about this camera for the money. Cant wait to shift our entire line to mirrorless in the next couple of years. OH AND LETS NOT LEAVE OUT THE FREEKING FLIP SCREEN Must have for vlogging. sick camera

I waited about a year and a half for this camera to come to market, and it was well worth it. After shooting with a 7D II and a 6D for a few years now, the 5D IV was my goal. When it was finally released, there was a lot of disappointment expressed about it especially those who shoot video. Even still shooters groused that it wasnt a big enough improvement over the 5D III. As a result, I hesitated ordering it until it had been used by professionals who wrote reviews about it. After that, I was confident that it was the camera for me.Now that I have used it, I can tell you that I am very pleased with the higher pixel count sensor, the new dual pixel autofocus system, and other new features. I also find the touch screen to be very fast and reliable, even though I have large hands. I havent experimented with the dual pixel image capture feature, but I look forward to trying it. I have not used it for video, but I would have bought the camera even if it didnt have video.I have customized the control buttons for my way of shooting, including back button focusing. The ability to create multiscreen custom menus and custom shooting modes is very advantageous. Overall, I spend much less time making the necessary adjustments to the camera between scenes, and spend more time shooting.I think this camera is a good match for anyone wanting to step up to a proquality fullframe camera either from the very good 6D or one of Canons crop sensor bodies. I hope this helps encourage anyone who isnt sure about the 5D IV based on the harsh press that this camera received early on, to take a leap of faith and give this camera a try. I am very glad that I did.

I purchased the original 5D way back in 200506, but I didnt adequately justify the purchase to my significant other, and sadly, I was compelled to return it. That was almost 15 years ago. Jump to 2020. With a much better presentation on my part I was given the thumbs up to acquire the 5Dm4, and Im very happy. Lots to learn however, and will require some studying to get up to speed. I guess this might be the last version as mirrorless takes over, but stoked this one is ready for my creativity and quite helpful that it is robust but lightweight.

Hi Have had my Mark IV since December as an upgrade from my old Canon T4i. What a difference The speed, focusing and low light is 10 times better. I know that I am comparing apples to oranges but I love this upgrade. I purchased this camera for photos, but have done some video on it. The focusing is amazing. I shoot all of my daughters indoor volleyball games for the club, where most of the games are in darker gyms. Even bumping the iso to 6400 I am totally able to get excellent photos as the higher shutter speeds 1800 11000. I am still learning all the functions and focusing points with the new system and I am sure I will get better with practice. With respect to Video I had videoed my daughter during a practice so she could watch it afterwards to see what she needed to work on. Using the focus tracking, I selected her and started to record, I was amazed that it was able to track her 99 of the time, even when others got in her way and with her moving around on the court. I have done most of the recordings at 1080P 64fps. I have tried the 4k a couple of times, but dont have software to edit it properly. I have not yet tried the frame grab from the 4k, but will update when I do. I also picked up the Battery Grip for the camera, along with additional batteries. This has been a huge saving on my wrist as the T4i was smaller and lighter than this 5D.

I am a Canon guy have have been for years for everything from my pointandshoot, to my video cameras, to my projector, to my DLSR. LOVE THEM and love their products. Ordered the 5D Mark IV to replace my 60D which Ive had since 2012. Its a great step up in a lot of ways, the biggest for me being its video capabilities. Like all cameras in this range, it shoots amazing stills but its ability to get amazing video has really set it apart. I use it for both myself as a photography hobbyist as well as the production work I do as a career. Excellent camera

I have been a Canon user for many years. Every few years I add another camera to my collection. My hubby has wanted me to get the Canon 5D Mark IV, but I have been hesitant because of the cost. The Christmas price was too good to let pass by. It is more technical than my 80D, but so far it has been great. I can see I am going to spend more time with the manual before I master my new toy. Photography is strictly a hobby for me. Looking forward to hitting the national parks for some wildlife shots It is a bit heavier than I expected, but handles well when out on a shoot. Although I have the Canon 100×400 lens, I added the Tamron 100×400 to this camera. This is going to be a great addition to my equipment

This has been my dream camera for many years. I had the original Canon 5D for over 10 years and it finally quit on me. I was devastated, but decided it was time to trade up.There is a bit of a learning curve with the Mark IV and I am still getting used to some of the differences but it is an undeniable upgrade. The photos I have taken so far have been beautiful. It seems to bring out the best in my lenses and has amazing low light capability. The biggest problem I have run into so far is that the RAW files from this camera cant be read by my Adobe Lightroom program so I had to download the Canon RAW file converter. Im sure I will come up with a new work flow in time. For now, Im just not shooting in RAW since the file size is much larger than with the original 5D anyway. The camera arrived very quickly, a day ahead of schedule, and was well packaged. I had to sign for it, which is good considering it wasnt an inexpensive item.Overall, I am very pleased with the purchase and look forward to several years of use.

A lot has been said since the anouncement of the 5D mkIV, so my expectations were not very high, but as soon as I started testing the camera I was very surprised with the experience. For professionals, I guess the most important thing is reliability, and from my experience having owned many of its predecessors I know for a fact this is a camera you can count on, it will never let you down on the field, and for that only the 5D mkiv is worth it.About the specs I think most of the people are taking for granted, I mean, for my workflow Wifi, dual pixel sensor, touchscreen, extra resolution, better overall AF performance, better noise control and dynamic range have definately made a huge difference. They are not all super new technologies, but first time ever incorporated in the 5D series, so since I had no plans of going back to cropped sensor camera, for me it is a game changer.Besides that I do agree that this upgrade is not even close to what the mkii and mkiii represented when they came out, but for a professional photographer the new and better 5D mkiv is the way to go, it is a better overall camera and like I said it will ALWAYS get the job done.If you are a professional and ask me if it is worth it, Id say yes everytime. If you are an hobbiyst or enthusiast Id only recommend if money isnt an issue, because the mkiii is as good as the mkiv but today a lot cheaper. In the end, after testing and working with this camera I couldnt agree more with what is being said, the Canon 5D mkiv is not a revolutionary camera but definately evolutionary. Canon is known for playing safe sometimes but before we only had a competition between the two major brands, now we have so many others and each one of them with pros and cons, so choose whatever platform better suits your workflow and line of work, as long as you keep productiveGood clicks to you all

I purchased this camera two weeks ago as an upgrade from my Canon 7D. I love the 5D Mark IV and found it fairly easy to switchover from the 7D. it is lightweight, I love the touchscreen, it works well in low light with low noise at the higher ISO 16,000 settings. It has excellent color rendition, accurate and flexible focusing and has been a joy to use. Although expensive, it is clear that Canon had listened to the criticisms regarding the previous 5D models and smartly took steps to correct those problems. On the downside, I found the wireless software and connectivity a bit obtuse. The free Canon software is required to connect to a computer and I would have preferred simply using a basic wireless connection in which I could simply put in the network password and have the camera connect to my networkdesktop to be used like any other device which connects to it to access and transfer files with the Canon software being optional. Also, it does not seem to be able to connect to the computer and then to my phone without having to remove all previous settings and starting all over again with new settings, I do not shoot much video preferring stills. From time to time I will shoot video. Still, given the high cost of this camera, it is incumbent upon Canon to resolve several wellknown issues with its video capabilities, particular with regard to the video codec, file sizes and video file usabilitycompatibility with major software producers video editing software. Perhaps a corrective software update by Canon is in order. To be clear, overall, I am quite pleased with my purchase

As a professional portrait photographer, I need a reliable camera that provides high quality photos obviously. I tried the R6 which was great in terms of eye tracking and tack sharp focus at least initially until the focus started going wonky on me but the R6 froze twice on me during photo shoots. So I got the 5D Mark IV instead and coming from a 5D Mark III, its a great upgrade. 30 megapixels, better dynamic range and just a plain old reliable workhorse. I feel so much more confident in my equipment with the 5D Mark IV than I did with the R6. And of course… the optical viewfinder is just fantastic.

This camera has been worth the wait I have a few highlight points in this review. I just finished a week long commercial shoot at The Greenbriar in West Virginia this week and this camera performed like a race car Its fast, the colors are more brilliant than ever, it controls light much better than previous models. The viewfinder is bright and sharp, which helps see the camera controls much better than any canon ever It performs well in low light, yet high ISO in my opinion is best below 3000 as I dont like noise.I tried some shots at 10,000 ISO but it will take a lot of work to reduce the noise, LR did pretty well at repairing the noise, but it does soften the image. Im not sure if going to 25k ISO will be acceptable for stills. I did not shoot any video at night or low light on this shoot, so Ill have to report later on that. This camera is fast, which seems to reduce image blur from camera shake when using prime non IS lenses, I can shoot at 1000 ISO and shoot a faster shutter speed and open my lenses to f1.4 and not worry as much about camera shake.Shooting at 30 megapixels is great, and choosing medium size at 17 megapixels was great for shots that did not need such a large file. The touch screen controls are also blazing fast, helping me make menu adjustments on the fly with confidence. Changes in the menu before were slow, touch screen changes are a breeze.Ive been using wifi on the 6d, so having this on the 5d is a plus. One odd thing that I could not resolve is the focus lock sometimes would blink red and sometimes it would not blink, so I had to turn on the beep which is annoying and problematic on set using video and shooting stills, as beeping noises interfere with audio recording. Not sure whats going on with this. The images coming out of this camera are simply beautiful. I dont know exactly what Canon did, but the images are jawdropping Much more inline with medium format cameras. Sorry Sony fans, this may be the big distinction. These images look like film, less digital right out of the camera.Oh, the touch screen review of images and pinch to zoom is amazing. Being able to shoot and confirm the image is properly focused down to the catch lights in the eyes is soooo niceThats it for now Im in love with this camera

I am in awe of this camera Its my first full frame DSLR camera which I selected after many hours of research. Research can drive one crazy as theres so much material ads, videos, reviews, reviewers and personal preferences, etc. to read before making a decision about such a large purchase. Do the research though to make sure you get the right camera for you. After nearly 3 weeks in Europe Im sure I made the right choice. Performance was flawless and operation was easy on this featurerich camera, Menus are complete, concise and rational. This is hugely important as making adjustments is fast no searching through excessive or confusing menus to find what you need. While some camera menus systems are good some are absolutely Byzantine Canons is, IMO, the best. This is also my first Canon after being a lifetime Nikon shooter. Solid construction and great materials are evident. Button layout and overall ergonomics provide me the easiest handling for a camera of this size and weight. Other cameras of this level which were all great just didnt seem as easy to handle or were as nimble in my hands. Not having any full frame lenses made the brand change easy for me. As is said One buys a camera but marries the lens system. IMO it is difficult if not impossible to beat Canon L glass. Some reviewers did not rate this camera at the top for video performance but the few videos I experimented with looked really excellent to me. Im not a skilled videographer so take that into account. Still shots are off the chart amazing though. The features of this camera are mindboggling I was able to learn a limited number of features and modes before my trip so I was able to get some amazing shots. I expect better after Ive read the rest of the 600 page owners manual. This is a serious camera one grows into and it will remain functionally relevant for a very long time. I LOVE THIS CAMERA..

Ive put more than 250,000 actuations on my Mark III and Im just glad it made it until my Mark IV came in. It is this amount of experience that IMHO allows me to comment on my early observations with the Mark IV. Ive had six assignments in the first ten days with this camera with more than 3000 shots. I shoot everything in raw and am proficient in Adobe Camera Raw. The increased shadow detail is impressive and long before a photo is washed out by ACR adjustment, the near perfect amount of detail is revealed. Have not noticed as much improvement in the highlight end but I tend to expose to best cover that. This past Saturday I shot a Fall Sports Festival for a local college. Simultaneous playing of mens baseball, womens softball and mens soccer games along with coed tennis matches offered a shooting environment I dont have a lot of experience with I primarily shoot slow moving corporatecollege events. I was blown away with the focus speed during action shooting and captured shots Ive never quite gotten in proper focus before. Just yesterday, I shot a lecture in a beautiful old hall at a Chicago University. It is a very dark room and it was my fourth year in there. I have always been impressed with the very acceptable noise levels of a higher ISO setting 4000 6000 with my Mark III but would only shoot in the 8000 12,500 range when it was the only option I had. I have always shot this event on a tripod, very cumbersome while moving around a room. Yesterday, I shot this event totally hand held with ISO settings ranging from 2500 to 10,000 with the majority of shots at ISO 8000. Every single shot presented very acceptable noise levels and any one of them would make a great 8.5 x 11 gloss magazine page. I read the manual twice before my camera arrived and continue to tweak camera settings to get the most out of a specific shooting environment. I expect the results will only get better. The response of the touch screen is awesome.

First let me specify that I bought this camera to take photos of my kids, to capture 4K home video and sometimes shoot short video pieces for the web. I am not a wedding photographer or someone who has to make a living with this camera day in and day out. The fullframe stills absolutely live up to the Canon reputation the quality is, as expected, fantastic. There have been many critiques on the internet about the 5D mkIVs 4K video file format however, it works in my specific case. As a professional editor, I already own the computer power and software to deal with the cameras unusually largefilesize motion Jpeg format, so for me thats not a big issue. Id say that if you have a good working knowledge of transcoding, and you are not on a tight deadline, this is nothing to be afraid of, and the visual quality is impressive. Of course, if you intend to shoot hours and hours of footage of sitdown interviews or weddings, you will need to invest in more drive space that you otherwise would with a camera that uses a more efficient video codec but for me, whatever Canon needed to do to not undercut their highend video camera sales is fair and the large file size is worth it to me to ensure that 4K would be a feature on this camera. Now, there are the usual DSLR issues with rolling shutter, but if you just watch one decent web tutorial about rolling shutter, you will be able to work around it. Of course, if your MAIN gig is shooting 4K video, handheld, of people running around at top speed or playing tennis, I would recommend a dedicated video camera, and not any of the existing DSLRs unless you are trying to be stealthy and look like a tourist. Overall the Canon 5D mkIV totally works for my needs which includes being stealthy and looking like a tourist. You cant really sneak a RED camera into Disneyland, after all.

THIS IS NOT A 4K CAMERA FOR CINEMATOGRAPHER OR FILM MAKERS. Now that thats out of the way, lets talk about why I love this camera as camera. Note Im writing this after adobe has updated its software to support the new RAW files, so dont put any weight behind others saying cant open files RAW files in Lightroon Anyway, the Mark IV is pretty much in every way slightly or even greatly improved from the Mark III. Resolution Love the 30mp. Feel like it really hits a current sweet spot, especially if youre working on high res monitors. Ive been using a 24 4k monitor for a couple years, and 20ish MP files already start to look a bit small when working in lightroomphotoshop. With good L glass the images are beautifully sharp. Yes theres an AA filter, so yes images do look a hair less than a hair bit soft when comparing 100 view to cameras wo an AA filter, but its pretty lighthanded as far as AA filters go, so the difference is seriously so small its almost negligible and can be compensated for with the tiniest bit of sharpening. Mind you, Im not the most critical pixel peeper, so maybe someone who REALLY likes to compare that closely might not agree. Dynamic Range There is definitely an improvement here. Its not a huge 4stop increase, but the it is a noticeable improvement. Gives more room to adjust in post and not see any noticeable ill effects. AF If you are a live view shooter, than this is a HUGE improvement. If youre a Viewfinder shooter, there is an improvement but nothing earth shattering. Focus Points are more spread out and very accurate. Focusing speed feels a hair bit quicker. Dual Pixel AF tracking is awesome, but Im mainly a viewfinder shooter, so it may take some time to get myself to shoot in live view more often. Speed and Performance a max of 7fps to me is perfect and maybe overkill for most situations. Maybe slowish for sports, but for everything else its almost too fast. Note that certain features can reduce FPS.

I am an advanced amateur, shooting landscapes, waterfalls, flowers, old cars, and some people shots. I moved up to a fullframe DSLR with the Canon 5D Mark III, bought right after it became available in March 2012. Very pleased with the Mark III, I didnt think I was in the market for a new camera until I saw the Mark IV announcement, watched the BHhosted panel discussion of it soon after, and checked whatever reviews and videos I could find. Preordering the Mark IV from BH became an easy decision. Having used it for a month now, paired with a halfdozen Canon Lseries lenses 3 zoom and 3 prime 2 with a 1.4x III extender I am very pleased with the results. The jump from 22.3 to 30.4 megapixels provides a nice boost to resolution and allows severe crops when caught with too short a lens for a subject that presented itself. Autofocus is fast and accurate. Using continuous shooting, capturing RAW images of my granddaughter playing tennis, delivered about 7 frames per second, all perfectly sharp and clear. But all this was expected. Some features I hadnt thought of wanting are turning out to be among my favorites. One is the touchscreen interface completely redundant, it stays in the background if traditional controls are used, yet is instantly available when touch control is desired. Another great feature is wireless connectivity. I particularly like being able to use my iPhone with Canon Connect app to shoot in live view, seeing on the phone what the camera sees, and controlling the camera from the phone very nice for low camera angles. Although not a huge matter, having builtin GPS is much more convenient than the accessory GPS receiver I used with the Mark III. Im delighted with the 5D Mark IV.

I upgrade from my 40D after my wife signed me up for a birdwatching course. Its like night and day. Ive been immersing myself in manuals and YouTube videos learning how to use as many features of this camera as I can and I am very impressed with how easy it is to use and the quality of the pictures I am getting. Its not fair to compare this with the 40D, but its all I have to go on. Owning a 40D for so long meant that the learning curve was not too steep so if you own another Canon you can probably make the leap to this model without much issue that is if I am not the last person to buy a 5D. In the past, I was a Basic Mode shooter, but the 5D doesnt not have those. It has an automatic mode, but not portrait, landscape, etc. This forces you to learn more about how to use a camera properly. It was daunting at first, but after a couple of weeks, I feel comfortable using all the features. Its a dated camera now so there are other options. For my needs, I dont feel like I am missing out by not getting a newer model or a mirrorless camera. I feel like Ive bought a very good camera at a good price because of its age, but thats OK for me because I dont need cutting edge. Loving this camera.

The Canon 5D Mark IV with 30.4 MP fullframe image sensor, 61AF points autofocus system, and 3.2inch touch screen sold me. It was like going from a Volkswagen to a Bugatti. Mind you I was shooting with a Canon 6D, now my back up. The 5D MK IV is a little heavier but the hand grip, size and feel are comfortable. I noticed the GPS drains the battery pretty quick so I turned it off and I dont use the WIFI, problem solved. When Adorama put the Mark IV on sale, it was a game changer for me. I purchased the body with free accessories. The salesman was professional, patient and polite. Got my camera after two days, and went to a horse farm.

I remember the hue and cry when Mark iii came. In the Prosumer age, it is good to voice your opinion, but from XL1 to now Canon knows are needs way ahead of time and jn advance. Once again rumors of this and that. Listen if you tell me a mirrorless camera is as good as hirange sensor camera than I would tell you that iPhone 7 Plus is as good as mirrorless cam with much less hassle and way more cheaper.Long story short I love the real cinematic 4K of Mark iv. It is a giant leap forward in every sense of the word. I was sick of Magic Lantern and the attitude of developers with endless process hassle when I should be spending time with my creativity. The touch screen has changed the DSLR game forever. I love the way you can rack without having to trust your eyes or focus puller or even the LCD. Charismatically accurate. My life has just improved dramatically as my job has improved tremendously while I have to put less effort in tech and more time for art.Big thumbs up. There is no better cam for those who want still and video at a time I guess today everyone wants it. No specialist videographers or photographers anymore. At least you cant earn a living or run a kitchen just doing one. Thanks Canon for so much fun.

I went from a Canon 7Dii and sold all my Canon gear because I jumped on the Sony train and got the A7Rii. What a mistake that was. Took nice photos, but extremely slow and lousy autofocus for moving subjects and the buffer sucked too. So I sold my Sony and went back to Canon and got the 5DIV. Yes I know… bonehead move and an expensive one too. But life is short and I wanted to get my Canon equipment back First of all, Ill say this… Anybody who knocks this camera is an idiot. Yes it has its flaws on the video side as for the size of the files, but honestly who cares Who really takes hour long videos all at once As for stills, this camera is really really amazing. Its fast, crisp, great buffer, fast autofocus… and the color rendition is really amazing. Yes, Nikon and Sony have slightly better dynamic range straight out the camera, but the Canon is just fine in that regard. The build quality is excellent its built like a tank and the touch screen makes the menu and controls so much easier. And the best part about Canon is that they make fantastic lenses Lenses that are over 20 years old and still functioning perfectly is a testament to how good Canon lenses are And finally, Canons customer service destroys Sony. The customer service of Sony is enough to shy you away from any product they make. And Sony comes out with a new camera every 5 minutes so the 3K camera you buy today will be obsolete tomorrow I truly love my 5Div… Its truly an amazing camera

HDR is now dead This camera is literally so good, you no longer need to shoot multiple images and combine in HDR. Just expose for the Highlights and then bring up the shadows in Lightroom or Photoshop. I recently shot a home interior for a realtor in the middle of the day. I tried a 3 shot bracketed exposure and then combined into HDR it came out really good. But then I took the darkest of the three exposures and adjusted the shadow setting on it in Lightroom and it came out just as good and in my opinion even better since the colors looked more natural. Conclusion dont bother with HDR, just shoot for the highlights. There is so much latitude for adjustment with the RAW images this camera shoots. 24105 lens This is a great multipurpose lens. I use it for outdoor weddings among other things. I like it better than my 2470 2.8 because of the added telephoto range which is good for portraits, plus this lens has image stabilization, which makes up for the slower speed. This lens is even better on a cropsensor camera for portraits. I just wish canon would come out with a 40160 f4. That would be perfect for shooting people outdoors with a fullframe camera. Some people argue that Sony and Nikon have better sensors, but I think that they fail to realize that Sony cameras preprocess their RAW files down to 12bit, so they are not true RAW. Canon shoots 14bit RAW which is Way more info than 12bit. 64 times more info in fact. Sony supposedly is starting to offer true RAW, but I havent seen any comparisons between that and Canon yet. BTW sony makes Nikon sensors so they are very similar in quality. IF you are a Canon guy you will like this camera. IF you are NIkon guy, the controls might seem backwards at first.

This model has so many new features that I hadnt used before and I am not sure I will ever use them all, but I am having fun exploring the options. So far, my favorite new things are the touch screen very similar to a smartphone screen love the tap to focus on a particular spot. Also happy to have the builtin timer it eliminated my old addon accessory.But…..my decision to purchase this camera was sadly due to an issue with Canon. I have a very expensive EOS 1D Mark IV, which developed a problem. I contacted Canon to get it serviced and found that they no longer support this model. Found a private repair place, but they couldnt get the parts from Canon….so….now I have a 6000 paper weight. I have been a loyal Canon purchaser for 20 years and I did not expect this…..should I need another camera, I will look at other brands that will hopefully be compatible with my Canon lenses.

Iv used the camera only a couple of times and I can see a difference in the focusing system as compared to the 5d III. I never really had a problem with the previous model though. The 5d IV is giving me more detail with the higher megapixel count. The touch screen is a great feature changing settings is almost instantaneous. I love my two 5d IIIs and plan on keeping them. The button systems are the same so I am able to change settings without taking my eye from the viewfinder. The 5d IV needs to be put though its paces before it becomes an extension of my minds eye. The 5ds are the best cameras ive ever used in my over 40 years of shooting. Everything from button placement to the cameras layout is so intuitive. They are an asset to my lifelong journey with photography.

Ive been upgrading my Canon gear since my first favorite the Canon FTbn Im dating myself. More recently I upgraded from the Mark III and the older version of the 24105 mm. I shoot mostly portraits using the 85mm 1.2, landscapes, and nature with the 1635mm 4.0 and 70200 2.8 and 1.4 extender. I dont shoot video and I feel that Im paying a hefty overhead for something I dont use. Was the upgrade worth it Yes. The Mark IV provides greater control and customization and to fully appreciate all the features you must take the time and read the manual beginning to end. The transition from the III was easy and Ive customized the camera for portraits, landscapes, and HDR. I use the touch screen very often as well as the custom settings. I do find that the image from this kit compared to the Mark III with the first generation 24105 is a bit softer as some have indicated. I post process in Lightroom so I dont find it to be an issue. I do enjoy the larger image size for cropping and comments about improved dynamic range are correct. Ive gotten incredible photos with the Mark III and it was simply time to upgrade and this iteration should serve me well for the next five years. What are the cons price ouch, especially the video that I dont need. Weight as one of the other reviews stated these cameras are getting heavier as I get older. And I enjoy the shopping experience with BH quick order execution and delivery.

My name is Ari and I am a professional avian photographer, I bought the 5D4 as a backup to my 1DX II. I published an extensive review of the camera for bird photographers on my blog, you can find it online. Here is the verdict and my conclusion The EOS5D Mark IV is a worthy upgrade to the EOS5D Mark III which improves upon its predecessor in every measurable way. The 4th generation 5Dis packed with new features that make it even more productive and fun to shoot with. There isnt really anything else on the market at the time of writing this review that can directly compete with the EOS5D Mark IV. There are camera bodies with higher resolution sensors but they are slower and lack the advanced and capable AF fitted in the EOS5D Mark IV. There are cameras with even better AF and faster performance but they cost twice as much as the EOS5D Mark IV. The EOS5D Mark IV is not a specialized camera, it is a Swiss army knife, a jack of all trades and master of some but not all. As a primary actionBIF camera the EOS1D X Mark II or even the now discontinued EOS1D X are both better propositions and will get you more dynamic frames. But for perched birds plus some BIF work withbare supertelephoto lens plus the 1.4X Extender, the EOS5D Mark IV is on top of my list. The EOS5D Mark IV delivers excellent resolution and sharpness at pixel level across the ISO range and at the same time is just fast enough for many things that you throw at it. Overall the EOS5 Mark IV is an excellent complement to the EOS1D X Mark II for the wildlifeavian photographer, I would recommend it with no hesitation. Pros 30 Megapixel lownoise CMOS sensor delivers excellent image quality, dynamic range and details across the ISO range. Flagship 61point reticular II AF module delivers fast, reliable and accurate tracking of BIF at f5.6 or faster. 61 AF points at f8, makes this body ideal for longdistant shots, accurate AF at f8 builtin WiFi with NFC and FTP support, Canons smartphone app is robustand provides many functions including image review. builtin GPS that doesnt drain the battery like some earlier EOS models. Reduced weight and improved weather sealing. LCD with responsive capacitive touch. Host of video features, 4K video with minimal compression. Rapid dualpixel CMOS AF in live view, makes it possible to track moving subjects reliable when shooting video. silent shooting is available even at 7fps, great for blind useor shooting skittish wildlife. Cons 7fps isnt slow but isnt fast either, sometimes it is not fast enough the capture the best pose or wing position. AF drive at f8 not as fast as Id like, becomes very slow in low light. Still uses the obsolete CF interface as opposed to CFAST, the SD interfaceis slow and limits the cameras performance. Battery grip only uses one battery at a time power from two batteries cannot be combined to speed up AF drive Focusing screen is fixed. VF illumination is only black, unlike EOS1D X Mark II which is red making it much easier to see the focus points. DualPixel RAW although in its current form it has very limited use for avian photography.

I am pleased with this camera and been with Canon over 25 years. There are a host of features it has over the previous 5D series. Also, I am just as excited with it being used because it feels and look as it is new. I taken a few images with it and they have turned out to be as expect… great. I will continue to inform folks that Canon has never let me down and the 5D MK 4 has continued that for me.

I have been using Canon cameras for years. The mark IV has several improvements over its predecessor that makes it well worth the purchase. 30MP fullframe image sensor. Fast 61point autofocus system. 7fps continuous shooting. Unlimited JPG shooting buffer. The build is solid as is with all of the 5ds, that I have used. Dual Pixel AF Live View focus system. 3.2inch touch screen. Integrated GPS and WiFi. Like the Mark III it has both CF and SD card slots. I have had a chance to use the WiFI and it down loads raw images at around 10 per min. My tablet is an surface pro 3 and has a USB port so I can just pull the card and plug it in. but for you IPad users with no USB port this feature should work great. It took about 5 min. to download 49 images. The GPS is a nice feature especially if you are out shooting the country side. AF points now go out to the edge of the focus points giving more options. Live view is also available for single shots which is really nice when you are down on the ground with a tripod. It also has a face recognition so you and use the touch screen and the focus will follow the face keeping it in focus. The touch screen works great and once you realize you can use it instead of the joy stick makes adjustments simpler and faster. The only thing I have a problem with is lightroom I have 5.7.1 does not recognize the new .CR2 file format, so I have to use the Canon Professional 4 to down load from the camera and either post process in Professional 4 or down load to profession 4 and convert the files as TIFF to use Lightroom. Photomatrix pro 5 reads the new .cr2 format and seems to work fine. I did not try any of the dual pixel photos in Photomatrix. I tried to use the NFC function, but the App is not compatible with my Windows 10 phone, but it did come on and try to down load it. A lot of reviews state that they are not happy with the 4K video, its a nice feature but, I am more interested in stills not the video.

Ive owned the 5D MkIII, as well as the 7D MkII and used them with my EF 500mm f4L IS II and my EF 1.4x and 2.0x TCIII. These were excellent combinations in many regards, but all were frustrating to use when the 2.0x TC was added to the lens. The AF system were slow to acquire initial focus and then, if you lost focus, it would take around a second to reacquire focus. With the 5D MkIV, initial AF acquisition was almost instantaneous. If I lost focus, it was quick to reacquire. Previously, I only experienced this level of AF performance with the 1D X and the 1D X MkII. Another area of much improved performance is AF performance in low light. The first night that I had the body, I shot it with the 500mm and the 1.4x TCIII, thirtyminutes after sundown, with a whitetail deer buck. I got several very nice shots, while two experienced shooters that were with me got no usable shots with their 7D MkII100400 II combos. One final area of AF improvement is shottoshot consistency when shooting at series at high framespersecond. When in AI Servo mode, the 7D2 will often have one or two shots out of a series of 6, slightly out of focus. The Mark IV isnt perfect in this respect, but much improved. Compared to the 7D MKII and the 5D MkIII, id guess that the 5D MkIV has about onestop more dynamic range. Also, the quality of the noise is relatively benign and easy to clean up, without losing too much detail, in Raw conversion. Im retiring my 7D MkII and using the 5D4500mm combo with the 1.4x TCIII as my default longlens setup and no reluctance to move to the 2x TCIII when I need more reach. The added pixeldensity vs. the 5D3 give a substantial increase in pixels on the subject in focal length limited situations, that bird and wildlife photographers often encounter.

This launch had a many skeptical reviews based on the specifications. What they failed to point out is that the improvements are mostly based on workflow and the Mark IV ability to improve as a photographer Key points 30MPs, so say not as much as 50, true. The files will also be not as much of a headache, and the 30 does alow a lot more crop in, giving your primes much more zoom in post. That combined with the MUCH better autofocus means more keepers, less need to shutter ride, less post. Touchscreen, still getting used to this but it is way faster than rolling the dial, Time saved less chimping more headsup time getting the photo you missed last time you were scrolling through menus almost 2X better screen w finger spread zoom instant focus check WiFI connected to my 12 iPad Pro mobile studio w remote focus and so much more connectivity to the creative process, anywhere 4K video Its there if I need it, I think the HDR video will be more useful for a small unit use, but the 4K for sports and frame grab may be huge to get crazy ball off bat or ball leaving hand moments In Camera Lens adj seam to make a great difference, again workflow savings. Ergonomics much better, feels more secure inhand. Shutter sounds much more solid and quiet at same time. I know the Video guys were looking for a 5D with output of 4K to external drives. This is a stills first camera. Im guessing Canon will give us an EOS Mirrorless in the 5D size with all the options video folks want and I think we must realize that proper production 4K will need a dedicated body. That said, the Mark IV, gives you the abilty, for a short time, to capture really good 4K. I think this is there for pros who know 4K video of some crazy event will provide more Money on the marketplace, and Canon will let you profit from the plane crash

This Canon 5D Mark IV is my go to full frame camera The improvements over the 5D Mark 3 are quite astonishing. I take lots of wildlife and Nature photos and many times they are in low light conditions. I have no worries using this camera up to ISO 3200 Higher than that, you can still get good shots if you use post editing noise reduction software. Also, the 30 mega pixel sensor is absolutely wonderful when cropping a shot in post processing. I can perform a major crop during post processing and still have enough pixels left to keep the picture sharp. The touch screen display is a very nice touch. The 5D Mark IV is certainly not a cheap camera by any means and how it fares in terms of value to you will depend on your priorities and expectations. Having previously owned its predecessors, the II III, allows me to appreciate the developments of the 5D genre over the years. I also own the Sony RX1 Fuji XT1 XT2. The 5D IV in my opinion is suited to enthusiasts professional photographers who put photography first, video less of a priority. The IV is not a contender to people who cannot or will not tolerate the bulk weight typical of an SLR set up. For people who can live with the above constraints, I can say the 5D IV is possibly Canons best general purpose most versatile consumer camera for now. I have heard some reviewers say Nikons 810 has slightly superior image quality due to omission of the anti aliasing filter on the 810. Others have commented on Sony A7R II sensor being higher resolution offers slightly better dynamic range. There is truth in some of the statements. The IV may not have the very best sensor or image quality freshness that is associated with cameras without the AA filter. But whatever components it does have is either amongst the best or the best. It is packaged in a most synergistic manner that using the camera is a delight. Userinterface Touch screen intuitive amongst the best Ergonomics Excellent Build quality Excellent LCD view finder Excellent GPS wireless High ISO Very good significantly lower better noise management than III Image quality Excellent improved dynamic range Image colour quality Excellent Focusing Precise, fast reliable. Significant improvements in low light focusing continuous tracking Handling Faster than III Video 4K Good but not excellent

Ive waited some time before reviewing this camera, as I wanted time to really get to know it before just spouting off my thoughts. Coming from a 6D, I was terribly disappointed to have shoveled over this much money, and the autofocus was terrible. I used it for a wedding and the camera was missing focus a LOT. I calibrated lenses but still had intermittent problems. I finally sent it in, and Canon identified a problem with the AF system and corrected it. Since then, the camera has been fantastic. Some of the benefits that dont get spoken of much include Better metering and color interpretation. Indoor shots have faithfully reproduced color balance. Also I was used to having to use exposure compensation a lot more on my 6D the 5DIV seems to nail the metering a lot more. The touchscreen is incredible. Being able to tap to shoot is great. The DPAF is fantastic for video, and the face detection keeps my kids in focus all the time. The WiFi is great. I was out taking some Aurora Borealis shots, and I set up my camera, enabled the Wifi, and then controlled the rest from the comfort of my warm truck using my phone. I will say the battery life is pretty bad compared to the 6D… Perhaps draining twice as fast. Not a problem if you have spares or use the battery grip. Quality at high ISOs is great. Dynamic range is great. The ability to customize some of the button functions is also fantastic. If you want to set your minimum shutter speed in Av mode with Auto ISO enabled, you have a lot more options than just up to 1250, as on the 6D. The benefits are fantastic. I took away one star for battery life and the autofocus issue I had. I know Sony is doing great stuff, but being invested in the Canon ecosystem, I didnt feel like changing everything over or messing with adapters. This camera does what I need it to do very well.

This camera is fantastic. The autofocus is amazing, particularly for shooting video. If you have to follow action as part of your job, the touchscreen autofocus alone makes it worth the purchase price. You can trust itIf you use an external recorder you can used the uhd camera setting to zoom you in by 1.7x on the chip and send it out thru the hdmi. it bumps the codec to 422 in uhd too. Still 8bit but Nice. You need a wide angle lens to offset the uhd sensor crop, but so what The feature set in this camera is amazing.optional Canon log setting requires post grading but adds a stop or so of overexposure to your image. Nice but not necessary all the time. The basic picture profiles look great on their own too and dont require much post. Are there features this camera lacks sure.wed all like it to have a Rotating screen, uhd output, 10bit, I get it….but the features the camera does have make it an amazing piece of storytelling equipment. Can this thing see in the dark Yeah.Clean image Super clean.Dont minimize the creative uses for falloff characteristic of the full frame sensor. It was the original feature that attracted many of us to the 5d in the first place. As a Profesional Photographer and Cinematographer, I was hoping for a hybrid for 4K video and stills. I pre ordered the 5D Mark IV and tested it. The stills are great not a drastic difference from the Mark 3, the focusing was slightly better than the Mark 3. However, when I tested the 4K video, I was very disappointed. When you shoot 4K video with this camera, you are shooting with a crop sensor smaller than a GH4 with a speed booster. Your L series lenses focal length are all screwed up when shooting 4K video because of the crop sensor in 4K video mode. You loose the sweet shallow depth of field and creamy booked most Cinematographers like me love. One more down side is Motion jpeg format besides requiring a lot of CF cards to capture and archive K video, it is not friendly to edit in post unless you transcode to ProRes or some other format for your NLE. This is not just the full frame hybrid DSLR for shooting 4K video and stills for me so since I have two 5D mark 3s, I sent it back. For the same price I paid, Id rather get and Ursa mini 4K and get great 4k or UHD video with 12 15 stops of dynamic range.

After having the opportunity to try the 5D Mark III at work for several months, it became my favorite camera body. Upon returning it I decided that if I were to purchase a fullframe I would go ahead and get the most up to date model and go for the 5D Mark IV since Ive never used it. After having this camera and shooting with it for over a month I am glad that I splurged and went with the Mark IV… I love the fact that the 5D Mark IV has an extensive ISO range. This comes in handy when I am shooting in poorly lit areas indoors and outdoors without a flash. There is some noise the more you increase the iso as with any dslr, but in comparison it stills produces amazing raw files. Although there is a small increase in the AF points from its predecessor I wish there was more coverage vertically, corner to corner would be great. Overall, I really enjoy shooting with this camera. The quality of images that it produces is exceptional. This camera has met my expectation and I am excited to embark on this new journey… I have attached two photos I was able to take. The tiger was coupled with a 100400mm IS II and the second image was coupled with a 2470mm f4 IS.

I ordered this camera after watching a BH webinar. The professionals this camera really made it sound like the greatest game changer since 5D Mark II. I disagree. For me they were too huge features that made it worthwhile to upgrade from my 5D Mark III. The first was that 4K video. Though this camera does shoot 4K, it does so in a codex that create huge file sizes. It also lacks basic video features such as zebra stripes and focus peeking. It also lacks facial recognition which would assist when doing shots that you cannot see the screen on. Also the monitor on the back of the camera does not tilts or swivel. I realize that Canon maybe saving these features for their Real video cameras but in doing so removes much of the impetus to purchase this one. The other musthave feature was the focus shifting with using the Dual Pixel feature. As I am a wedding photographer, being able to slightly shift the focus from an eyebrow to the front of the eye could be a very handy feature when shooting wide open. However in the few test that I did that minute difference in focus could not be changed. The eye was still out of focus. The 5D Mark III has been a rocksolid performer and I do not see a reason to upgrade to this camera at this time. Considering this camera is retailing for an additional thousand dollars over the 5D Mark III if I did have a camera permanently break Im still not sure if I would purchase this camera as opposed to another 5D Mark III.

What 35mm camera has this touch screen, awesome AF None. This is the 2nd DPAF dual pixel AF that has a full frame sensor, the 1st coming out a few months ago the flagship 1dx2 with only 20 mp so this 5D4 is better at stills. The 1dx2, having only 20mp means the center 4k pixels is a larger space, meaning better control over DOF Depth of field than the 5D4 which has to use a smaller center 4k area since there are 50 more pixels on the sensor. The 5D4 records gorgeous 1080p video from the entire center and as i touch mentioned captures 4k from the center 8.8 million pixels. The 4k looks awesome too, but of course everyone wanted a full sensor readout. You MUST buy a really fast CF card to record 4k, otherwise I only got 6 seconds using my fastest SD sandisk ultra. 128GB lexar 1066x card works well and will give you about 32.5mins at 4k 30p crazy right might want to spring for the dual pack or single 256gb. Im assuming I can get about 4.5hrs at 1080p on max 1080p settings. I also picked up the lexar us 3.0 reader as its built for professional use and fast. I use the 5d4 on a glide cam 1000 but i would recommend the 2000 version, along with a canon 1740mm as its pretty light weight. You dont need IS image stabilization on a glide cam. The time can be set using GPS which is ultra accurate, and nice with a multi camera setup for video and stills. So far I love this camera I bought it here, as a guest, but I really did buy it, and from BH reason it doesnt say verified buyer

I bought it for low light photography, northern lights, milky way, night scenic landscapes, etc., but returned in within first 30 days.I did saw reviews on Focus not working well, but once I experienced it myself, I finally understood those reviews.I always have 2 cameras with me so that I cannot change lenses in the field and get the dust problem, one for wider angles the other for zoom. My cameras are Mark 5DSR, but because of low light necessity I went for this model. The first Northern Lights night in Lofoten and could not focus, both automatic and manually. There was a light house far on the ocean, that I had no issues focusing with my 5DSR, but not this one, I did try manually and disappointed with the results. That round of Northern Lights photos were lost, luckily I had my second 5DSR with me, so I switch lenses, and two hours later I went for another Aurora Borealis display, this time the photos were fine. That night I went right away to my computer and started the return form with BH, so when I got home a week later I dropped it in the mail.Something not right with the Focusing System on this camera. This is the best purchase I have made I love love my new Canon 5D Mark IV. I have no regrets whatsoever. After using my first Canon T3i for many years, this 5D Mark IV was my dream camera. It has great features. AF is good and provides great deal of flexibility in adjusting sensitivity and focus mode to scenario you are in. Designed to be a good all around camera. I would definitely recommend this for anyone who wants to move from a crop sensor to a full frame.

If ever there was a camera that is a joy to use the Canon 5D MK IV is the one. I use this cam camera professionally in my real estate photography and product photography. It doesnt disappoint. The auto focus and clarity are excellent. I do a good amount of HDR photography and this system is excellent. I am sold on Canons color algorithms and if shooting JPG this camera is the top of the line. RAW shoots are phenomenal. Its 30.4 megapixel full frame sensor gives enough resolution to home in on a subject close in in post. The menus and layout of the exterior controls are perfect for my hand though there are other lighter weight Canons the MK IV is a balanced system with many Canon EF lenses.Bottom line this powerhouse is a joy to use and has a use life of many years to come.

I have been using Canon digital cameras for years as a serious amateurstock photographer. My 5D Classic did a great job most of the time but had issues with noise and focusing. When I got my Mark IV, the changes were astounding. So far, shots with ISO 800 are clean, and when used properly, focus is deadon. Live View is perfect for focusing static shots. Ive also noticed that exposures are more accurate. The extra resolution certainly helps with cropping and largeprint files. Along with these improvements over the Classic, comes a host of new features, like the Live Viewtouch screen, video, customization, shutter operation, etc. Also, the build quality is solid. My use with videos is limited, and this review is based on still photography. The downside is that the battery usage increases, especially when using the Live View, GPS, WiFi, and AI Focus modes. However, there is a menu item that shows the battery percentage left much better than relying on the LCD bars. This enable me to use the batteries more efficiently. Also, older software does not process the RAW files. At this writing, you would have to use the supplied DPP. It converts the colors perfectly, and you can see how the many camera settings affect the images. Ive found for casual shots, its good enough. For professional quality images, I convert to TIFF it can be done in batches and use the existing Photoshop programs. For Classic owners like myself, I strongly recommend reading the manual first. The menu is complex, to say the least. Of course, a spare battery is a must. Learn to use the different focusing and exposure modes I love auto ISO. Customize per your needs. To summarize, this model is a great update from the older models. This is the start of a beautiful relationship

Ill start by saying the the 5D Mark III was my favorite camera. Versatile, robust camera. It could take on nearly any task and do it well. I see the 5D Mark IV fulfilling all of those roles and doing it even better. The new sensor is a step forward for the 5D line. My impressions so far is it has better dynamic range, can handle pulling extremes from the darkest shadows and of course at 30mp, more resolution. The dual pixel raw feature, while receiving a lot of press, has not shown me anything of use for my photography. Maybe it will in the future. AF system is great and a little more responsive than the 5D mark III, but not by enough that it would make it worth the upgrade. Im giving the camera 5 stars. Id give Canon 2 stars for a couple of really annoying things. The body on the Mark IV is so close to the Mark III that they could have easily made things like the optional battery grip fit, but they didnt. It is off by just a fraction and then to add insult, the tripod socket screw is in a slightly different place on the body so it darn sure wont fit. My view is that is just a sales technique to force a purchase of another grip if you wantneed one. More than annoying. Ive purchased the new grip and while it fits nicely, the materials for the battery drawer are clearly inferior to the materials in the battery drawer from the grip on the Mark III, yet the grip is even more expensive. So while I think the camera sensor AF system are great, Canon should really consider the costs for the overall system with things like the grip. Oh… and since the grip doesnt fit, a new LBracket is also required. Great camera, inconsiderate engineering and marketing.

I am very happy with the upgrade from the 5D mark III. My recreational photography has been stills. One part of the reason I shot little video was the lack of good focus tracking in video. I was frequently dissatisfied with my ability to manually pull focus. Usually my attempts at video were not much better overall than video from a cell phone because of focus issues. The DPAF removes the worry. Now videos of grandchildren are a snap. No hassle of one camera for stills and a different one for video. I envision using 4K only occasionally. The hassle of the large file size and the advantage of a good still from any frame seem to me to balance out. I like the mark IV better than the mark III for stills as well. The ability to use exposure compensation while in Auto ISO is very helpful when the subject moves into different lighting but is always darker than the general scene. The greater ability crop and to pull the shadows matter only occasionally for stills, but these are nice to have now and then. The ability to crop at editing and the wireless connection make it easy to get a good picture to my wifes cell phone while on site. The remote shooting from an iPhone was not hard to set up and is great for that family picture when I need to be included. The controls feel just the same as the mark III for routine stills, no fumbling around while learning a new camera. This is not the camera for production of large amount of video, but for me it makes video a real option in the same camera I use for stills.

First off Im a photographer and videographer for a gear and endurance event company. Our events mostly occur at night in poorly lit areas, and Ive been stretching the capabilities of the 6D and 5D3 that Ive been using for the past two years.A lot of people have mentioned the unimpressive upgrade from the 5D3. This may be true, and the specs alone arent enough to necessarily justify the change, but if youre shooting on a body below the 5D3 like the 6D the upgrade is well worth it.It basically took the only features I really ever used on the 6D WiFi and added them to my preferred body 5D3. In addition, my 5D3 has been relegated to a meager back up, and after shooting with the 5D4 in dark conditions, as well as shooting video content, I can safely say that it is a worthy successory to the 5D3.Colors seem to pop more, theres less contrast between lights and darks, making outdoor images in harsh environments more even and leaving me with more useable shots. The autofocus in the dark is outstanding compared to the 5D3 and having tried to same shots in the same environment and seeing how much more quickly the 5D4 catches the right subject.Plus, Im not going to lie, being able to rack focus on subjects during an event by tapping on the screen not only made my focus wheel that I have for my shoulder rig nearly pointless, but it completely muted any need to find a better solution for rack focusing on event participants.I gave it 4 stars because had I not been upgrading from the 6D, it probably would have been an even more unnecessary upgrade, but Im pretty freakin happy with the new camera system.

I have owned a 7D for the past 67 years and still the quality of photos and ease of use. I simply thought it was time to upgrade. I have had the 5D Mark Iv package now for just two weeks. Comparing many photo providers, I believe that BH offered the best price, plus I have had great satisfaction with their products and service in the past. Even though the camera was purchased just after Christmas, delivery to Maine was in three days, very safely packed. I have not yet used the video mode, but photos thus far are excellent quality, sharp and with a very wide range of settings. I am an amateur photographer, shooting birds, wildlife, and outdoors sports, especially free style skiing. Could be happier with this purchase. Many items in the package have already been put to use. Would highly recommend to friend or family, or even to YOU Thanks

Ive been a long time Canon user and must say I am extremely impressed with the new 5D Mark IV. I was due for a new body having owned the 5D Mark II for quite a long while now, and a couple of 1 series bodies before that. I did a lot of research to make the decision to buy the Mark IV. At the end of the day it really came down to Canon just being so reliably good in every way as they have been for a long time now. When I look at other brands there are certainly things to be excited about, but they all have their shortcomings. What I need is a camera that performs well in every situation and never hesitates to deliver when the photographer is in a demanding situation. This thing is blazing fast and the AF system is fantastic. I loved the 5D Mark II and was always impressed with the results I got out of that camera, but the Mark IV is dramatically better in every way. Image quality is stunningly good and the raw file size options are perfect for me. Lenses from Canon are of course great and the selection is unmatched in my opinion. One intangible thing that is important to me is how easy it is to keep a cameras sensor clean. I was astounded recently when I checked my 5d II sensor via the f22 wall test and found that the sensor was amazingly clean. Ive never done anything more than rarely use a rocket blower on the sensor. Canon has this figured out and I really appreciate this. Some of the mirrorless cameras have major problems with keeping the sensor clean. This is a headache I didnt want. In summary, Im very happy with the 5D Mark IV and am extremely impressed with how well thought out it really is. Everything just works fantastically good and the images Im getting are stunning This is a highly refined machine that does not leave you wanting. Good work Canon

Let me start off by saying that this 5Ds biggest sellers for me were the 4K Video, continuous auto focus and the 30.4MP FullFrame CMOS Sensor. I use the camera almost everyday and it has replaced my 5D mark III. Now of course your wondering am I shooting Video Only or Photos or Both. The answer is it is a mix of both. While I do use it more for video I tend to do photo shoots quite often. Now when you read my biggest sellers you said wait… What professional uses continuous auto focus or What professional uses Auto Focus at all. The answer is quite simple, If you put this Camera on a Ronin 3axis Stabilizing gimbal, you probably wont want to keep messing with the focus on the camera and this is where the continual auto focus comes in handy in shooting video. This feature has become a must have for me in this environment and the continual auto focus for the most part makes minor and smooth adjustments so as not to mess up a shot. Combined the with GPS tagging and the wifi features this camera is a must have in a professionals backpack and goes everywhere i go. GPS is important because when i import the photos and videos using adobe lightroom it quickly organizes them by where they were taken and what time they were taken saving me time and money especially because when going from one shoot to another i no longer need to switch cards if the current card has space. All in all this is a great camera and you wont be disappointed.

My rating is solely based on still photography, not video. I didnt buy this camera to take videos. I could repeat all the glowing reports of other 5 star ratings but I thought I would consisely state why I like this camera 1st It has enough resolution 30mp so I can crop and still enlarge my photos to 16×20. If there were more megapixels, I would have to worry more about mirror slap and super, super stable support systems. 30mp seems to be the sweet spot for me especially since the noise performance and dynamic range have been improved as well. 2nd I like the control, menu layout, and ergonomicst of Canon cameras. I made the mistake of switching to Nikon a decade ago and I absolutely hated the ergonomics and returned to Canon this may not affect you because everyone has their own priorities, but this camera fits my style of photography. 3rd I dont like mirrorless cameras that rely on, a so far, inferior focusing system. Again, this is my preference and may not be yours. Canons focus system, speed, and tracking process work extremely well for me. 4th This Canon camera continues to be compatible with Canons excellent lens system and with their RF controlled flash sytem. All of my accessories work with the Mark IV. 5th I am happy that Canon did not switch to the Cfast memory system. As I understand it, the memory card is not the limiting factor in the Mark IV performance, so why shift to a more expensive memory system that hasnt been declared the standard as of now when it isnt needed. I am happy to be able to use my current memory cards. And… I also like the fact that the battery hasnt been changed as well no upgrading necessary. Again, there are many reasons why this camera is outstanding and all of them have been covered in other reviews. I agree with all of those pertaining to still photography and have added some of my personal reasons for liking this camera.

Purchased this Canon EOS 5D Mk IV barely a month ago, and now I cant stop carrying it to any venue where I might even remotely suspect a picture might be desired either by myself or for friends, or just because I like using this camera so much. Now I look for any excuse to take pictures.A little history I borrowed and tried other brands along with Canon before making purchases and resuming my photography hobby just over a year ago with a new Canon T5i. I outgrew that in a couple months and found a verylowshuttercount Canon EOS1Ds Mk III, and its fullframe viewfinder optics were like coming home for this old man who used to shoot when 35mm wetfilm cameras were still widely used. Still, it was tough to get good images during indoor sporting events that prohibit flash. After several months of searching, I tried the Canon EOS 5D Mk IV.The Canon EOS 5D Mk IV is the answer, for me at least. Im so pleased with the lowlight capability of this DSLR camera body. My EF 28300mm IS L and EF 100400mm IS L lenses gain the newfound ability for me to be used freehand with no monopod or tripod during indoor concerts without a flash. Canons noise reduction at high ISO numbers amazes me when I first selected ISO 25,600, my first thought was Oh, this is just for advertising it cant possibly shoot a decent image at such a high ISO selection. Well, I can say the resulting images are still truly usable The AWB automatic white balance easily beats my ability at managing it manually I may eventually gain greater skill at selecting white balance color temperatures, but for now, AWB is what I use most of the time, happily. My EF 28300mm IS L stays attached to this 5D Mk IV about 95 of the time, its a true goto and do most things combination for me. Yes, its definitely a heavy setup, but Canons BGE20 grip assists controllability marvelously. Freezing motion with excellent clarity during flashprohibited indoor sporting events is more easily attainable, and Im no longer hampered by dark frames due to indoor 120Hz lighting flicker here in most of the Americas this EOS 5D Mk IV can also take care of this in the many, many countries that use 50Hz power, ergo, the resulting 100Hz flicker of some indoor lighting power supplies.7 FPS continuous shooting is easily enough for my sporting event uses, the touch screen is very intuitive, and I appreciate the high ISO performance. Nice images from my EOS1Ds Mk III are 75 Canon, 25 me. Very, very nice images from my EOS 5D Mk IV are 90 Canon, 10 me. I just love when technology makes me look like Im doing a better job taking pictures.

Ill start off by mentioning the Focus System. Although it has 61 focus points, 41 being cross type, like the 5D Mark iii, it is not the same focus system merely spread out more and rated at lower light levels. Its a far more intelligent system, the same one thats in the 1DX Mark ii. The RGBIR metering also changes things. There are far more ways to customize the camera than before, I wont go into that here, but check out the video on Youtube, Back button focus on steroids. 30 Megapixels seems to be the sweet spot. Ive had other cameras that have more megapixels but with out in body IS or IS on every lens you have, more than 30 and it starts becoming hard to get it sharp at 11 handheld. You can see a major resolution difference at 30MP vs 20MP for example, however once you get to 30, they all have that high resolution look and its harder to tell the difference in 30 MP and 46 MP. VIDEO I dont believe Canon dropped the ball here as some are thinking. In 4k you get a full readout from the part of the sensor that records the 4k video. That means no pixel binning. This causes a sharper image with no alias and moire. Take the Sony cameras for example, the A7Rii shoots 4k in full frame, however most will not seriously use it in full frame because it pixel bins, the image is much more dull as well. So, most people put the A7Rii in, Super 35mm, mode, which is a 1.5x crop, they then get a full readout of that part of the sensor, as the Canon does. The Canon however is a 1.7x crop, for comparison, the Canon 7D is 1.6x crop, the Sony A6500 1.5x crop, the RED Epic cinema camera 1.7x crop for 4k, which is around Super 35mm. I highly doubt your eyes will be able to tell the tiny difference in 1.5x and 1.7x. Another thing that was complained about all around the web was the .MJPEG codec, which is a codec that creates an 8.8MP JPEG for every single frame, so if youre shooting 30FPS, youll get 30 JPEGS a second. This causes the video files to be HUGE. For example, a 256GB card gives you an hour of 4k footage. That is a disadvantage if youre doing a lot of video, especially event video. However, for those of us who are hybrid shooters, who are photographers but like to do video as well, we mostly shoot smaller clips that are edited together later. I use a few 256GB and 128GB cards and have never had a problem. Also, SD cards do work for 4k if they are fast enough. If you compare the 4k image to other camera manufactures it is really hard to argue against the Canon 5D Mark IV. As most hybrid shooters, youre probably a one man operation. It has dual pixel auto focus for video, it shoots even at 4EV which is almost pure darkness. It tracks everything including faces very well. If youre doing a video that involves you being in the video or away from the camera the app on the iPhone or iPad works great, you just touch what you want to focus on, if you want tracking you turn that on and it does the job with very few mistakes. DPAF is far superior than any other focusing system in video right now, to me, that alone is worth dealing with the huge file sizes if thats a problem. Last but not least if you plan on doing any video, get this camera with CLOG. CLOG is not a gimmick and it does make a difference. You get 12 stops of dynamic range in video at ISO 400 or above. That is more dynamic range than the 6D, 6D ii, or 5D Mark iii has even in its photo mode. Final thoughts Its amazing the quality of video and photo you get out of this thing, its built like a tank. I wouldnt make decisions from spec list, Id use one yourself. The added dynamic range for photos has proven to be quite good as well, especially for underexposure and shadow recovery. You can under expose more than 4 stops and bring it back in post and have no noticeable noise or banding. There are quite a few test doing just that in video and photo against other cameras in which the 5D Mark IV ends up winning out, even against cameras that have a stop more dynamic range. Those cameras end up winning out on pulling back highlights, the Canon does well at pulling back highlights but it does amazing at pulling up exposure and shadow, so as long as you dont over expose more than likely you can get it all back in post. Ive had this camera since February and every time I pick it up Im still stunned at the accuracy of the auto focus with both the mirrorviewfinder and live view DPAF. IMO, although it doesnt have a tilt out screen, your smartphone or tablet is far superior at doing that anyway, there is really no lag to worry about in the Canon app and its very easy to set up. It has GPS as well, I do not use that. The battery life is great as usual with Canon.

Prior to writing this I noticed nearly 300 people have written comments about the 5d Mark IV and, if youre reading mine, it is likely you also have read some of them along with published reviews. That means you already know about the cameras technical merits, the extent of its evolution from the Mark III, and its perceived limitations. I want my comments to offer a different perspective, not only as professional photographer but as a journalist who has written over a thousand reviews. The 5d Mark IV is a topnotch professional tool with at least as many strengths and no more limitations than its closest competitors. Most criticisms seem to focus on features, such as the 4k video aspect ratio or lack of a Clog setting, whether its touch screen pivots, or whether its dual pixel focus meets expectations. As a pro, I find most such criticism unimportant wasted words. I want answers to only two questions How well will the camera work for me and how closely does it meet the manufacturers intent Anything else isnt a review. Its a complaint that the reviewer selfishly wanted the manufacturer to produce a different camera. That is irrelevant to a responsible review. As I evaluate the Mark IV, Canon came very close to producing precisely what it had in mind. In my hands I find it superior in very way to the Mark III and, overall, its handling, ease of use, and still or video image quality the equal of any competitor. I use very few features in my work. Instead, I rely upon my knowledge of how the camera operates, its strengths and weaknesses, and my own photographic ability. I have no favorites when it comes to a tool I choose the most appropriate for the job. I chose the Mark IV because, for me, it will produce the best results in a variety of applications, regardless of any feature list. As a professional camera capable of exquisite stills and excellent video, it is superb.

This review will be straight and to the point Lighter than the Mark III and feels good in the hands Color depth and clarity is fantastic compared to the Mark III and other Canon DSLRs Dark shadow detail adjustment in post processing has very little noise compared to Mark III 7 frames per second does not seem like much but it does make a difference Touch screen is very welcome but an articulating screen would have made it perfect. Come on Canon With all points at f8 now, I can finally use my 1.4 extender with the 100400 IS II in servoburst mode 4k video is beautiful but is cropped which is a bummer 4k video is choppy and I have a Lexar Pro 1066 card so not sure why Have not found dual pixel raw worth much. Fine adjustment is too fine so very little change. Maybe a future iteration will be an improvement but right now, it doesnt do anything for me Havent tried 4k frame capture yet but I hope it will be rewarding. It does make a difference in clarily with the newer line of lenses Mark IIs and Mark IIIs Very now noise shots now all the way up to ISO 3200 and beyond in some cases. Canon FINALLY added bulb and time lapse mode. Very nice I hope Canon can update the bios with focus stacking as well. I really miss that Magic Lantern feature from the Mark III and it would not be hard to incorporate. That also goes for Magic Lanterns Trap focus where the camera snaps an image if something comes into or leaves the frame. Really cool feature The changes seem subtle in some cases but all in all, I think it is a vast improvement over the Mark III for photographers. I cant say that for videographers but I rarely do video so that is not important to me. There are probably more things I can think of but these are the best points I wanted to make to help someone decide.

As a professional photographer I can attest to the fact that the 5d Mark IV is a great all around camera. To start off with lets get this out of the way .. it was never meant to be a front runner for video get over it already Canon is pushing their video camera line As a still camera, it is very good. The auto focus is excellent rarely does it ever miss. I used to shoot weddings but now mostly landscape. The dual pixel touch screen for focusing is outstanding. It is true that its noise and dynamic range characteristics do match up with the likes of a Nikon d850 but is still good in its own right. You can definitely lift the shadows with less noise virtually no banding unlike the 5 d Mark III where the banding was a real problem. Ive tried it. Also check out some of the pro reviewers on Youtube and they will show you exactly what I am talking about. In very contrasting scenes you can of course bracket or use the built in hdr function, if you need extra dynamic range. A number of pro reviewers including Tony Northrup have given this camera high marks as a still camera. Since I am without need for video, I am very happy with this as a still camera. For the record we own two of them If you are looking for a great still camera not heavily in need of video I highly recommend this camera.

I own a Canon 1Ds Mark II, and this new 5D Mark IV definitely is a step up in the following areas1. Automatic sensor cleaning2. increased ISO range, for in door shooting. This is more useful than I first expected, because for a high pixel camera at this level, any camera shake would show, so the shutter speed will need to be high, and having an increased ISO range with low noise capture would provide the flexibility3. high resolution, almost to the level of medium format4. higher color saturation and contract right out of the RAW file capture. The image I shoot with 1Ds Mark II were soft and flat, and needs quite a bit of post adjustments. With 5D Mark IV, the original image is already sharp, with very good contrast and color saturation, so I usually do not even need to do much post adjustments.5. Touch screen LCD screen makes it much easier to view and zoom in for played back images.

I take comfort in knowing that every new Canon professional camera is tested by worldclass photographers in the rain and cold and mud of the real world before designs are finalized. Canon doesnt ask me to find their bugs. My Canon 5D Mark III worked for 5 years without a glitch. I expect another 5 to 10 troublefree years. Ive only had the Mark IV for a few weeks. But I see no reason why it should be any less reliable. For the Mark IV, Canon didnt change what everybody loves in the 5D series. They just updated the technology. I can carry the Mark IV out on a moonlight night and bring back wellfocused shots without artificial lights. Every button is in the right place. The menu system is familiar. It feels good in my hands. In the attached photo, I shot into the rising sun underexposing by about 3 stops to preserve colors in the sky and push the shadows to black. In postprocessing, there were some puzzling red spots on the side of the hill. That prompted me to check the sensor for hot spots. Nope, no hot spots. So I went back into Photoshop, opened the image in RAW mode and drug the exposure up until detail appeared in the shadows. And there they were rose bushes. I included one of them here so you can see what they look like after being pulled up from deep black shadows and cropped 13X. The sunrise photo was shot at ISO 640 autoISO mode. But images out of this camera at ISO 25,000 are salable. Dont send them to Vanity Fair. But most newspapers would be happy with that quality in a newsworthy image. They look a lot like TriX thats been pushed a stop or two.

Outstanding easytouse hybrid camera. Pros AWBW allows for very pleasing colors in all lightning conditions huge step forward from Canon 6d and 5diii. VF AF is vastly improved and very accurate none of my lenses require and MFA anymore. Touch focus DPAFfollow focus is unbelievable The best video AF I have ever seen and that includes shooting with 50L lens at f1.2 absolutely buttery smooth cinematic There is nothing like this on the market Colors, colors, colors love cinematic colors in stills and video, a noticeable and unexpected improvement from 6d. Huge dynamic range boost, one of the most immediately noticeable differences between 6d5diii and 5div. 4k capture is stunning Cons 4k shooting comes with 1.8 crop makes it very challenging if impossible for WA or UWA video there is a workaround by using APSC lenses made by Tokina and Sigma but its not very practical. My workaround is switch to 108060p when UWA is desired rarely for me and conform to 4k upon editing. 4k files are huge and I found only CF 1066x card to work consistently well. My workaround is to convert mjpeg files to H264 100 mbps for archiving once editing is done. It is not ideal but it is worth for the nearly uncompressed rawlike 4k footage you get with 5div with no noticeable rolling shutter, moir or artifacts of any kind. Those cons are not deal breakers and I cant really think of anything else thats negative. Pros are so significant that the camera is worth the asking price, IMO. It is extremely user friendly and with touchscreen it is so easy to use for any level amateur, enthusiast or even professional. I have no reservation handing this camera to my family members and they are able to get great shots without even knowing how to use it It was never possible with 6d. I use my 5div for about 70 stills and 30 video. Get a video monopod and external mic for best results

I cant tell you if the 5D4 is a worthy upgrade from a 5D3.I upgraded from a 6D which is now my backupsecond camera, so I get to enjoy a bunch of 5D3 features for the first time dual card slots, 41 crosstype autofocus points, faster continuous shooting. If you shoot in several genres, dont need 10 fps, and youre upgrading from a substantially lesser body or one with deliberately hobbled autofocusing, such as the 6D, I think its worth the price. As for 5D4specific features, the touch screen is surprisingly helpful, and I miss it when I switch back to the 6D. Ive tried live view focusing a few times, and may use it in welllit situations, but I was disappointed to learn touching alone doesnt focus in stills mode. You still have to focus with another button, which is physically awkward. Touching alone does focus in video mode. I suspect the expanded autofocus point array is helpful, but I dont have a 5D3 or 1DX to compare it to.Things I wish Canon would address Button customization seems arbitrary and counterintuitive though again worlds better than the 6D. Let me assign buttons to whatever I want I wouldnt shoot video normally, but I definitely wont shoot 4K with this camera, because 1 minute about 5GB. Stop hiding features in the menus. Touch to focus not touch to define focus point in live view.

I stepped up to this camera from the 7d for my real estate photo and video business. Let me start by saying that I love this camera. Just as the 7d, it is well built and is very reliable. The upgrade in image quality is quite noticeable and the video function is much more robust. However, I gave this camera 4 stars would have preferred 4.5 stars instead of 5, not for reliability, but for features I think should have been no brainers to include of course, this is very subjective and a few technical issues specific to the way I take photos. Here are the reasons No flip screen Come on Canon, you have such wonderful flip screens on other DSLRS, why not here I have needed one soooo many times at uncomfortable elevations or in tight areas. Massive 4k video codec. I understand the advantages of the codec included, but it would have been nice to include a lighter 4k coded… not every application needs all of that quality. No flash shooting from the hot shoe when taking bracketed shots… Really I know this is common, but for a camera of this ability this function should be included. I have a work around using a PC sync cord, which allows me to use flash on bracketed shots. Maybe Canon could change this in a firmware update… I could only hope. Some AWB white balance issues when shooting interiors with mixed lighting. Overly warm images. Maybe this is something I am doing wrong, but my 7d nailed it 99 of the time. This is something that I have created a work around for, so not a big issue for me. Of course, shooting raw and correcting in post works just fine too. Despite these issues, I love the feel and performance of the camera and can whole heartedly recommend this camera to others.

This camera is a proven workhorse. Very solid build quality and the ergonomics are great. If this camera had a builtin stabilizer, it would be perfect with the extensive prime lens selection Canon offers. Uses a tripod is not always the suitable choice. I purchased an 85mm 1.2 that is very sharp if used with the tripod. I guess Ill get the 2470 2.8 IS andor the 70200 2.8 IS lens for handheld situations. Still a great camera BH service is second to none.

Ive upgraded from a 5D3. The 5D4 upgrade is so superior to the 5D3 and the image quality is so much more excellent that looking at the images just leaves me speechless and breathless. Also, the focusing is just magnificent. It has greatly improved my BIF keeper rate. If you dont want to upgrade to mirrorless and pay the ridiculous price increase, then this 5D4 is the best camera on the market. Dont believe everything you hear about the mirrorless wonders. Considering the price difference I would put this 5D4 up against any mirrorless Canon offers. Buy the 5D4. You wont regret it.

I moved up to the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV from Canon EOS 40D and the difference is night and day. I expected a big improvement over that good but somewhat dated body and this one exceeded my expectations. Image quality from the 5D Mark IV is so good it is the first camera Ive seen that regularly delivers images that visibly and obviously benefit both from the sophisticated detail enhancing raw conversion mode in Adobe Camera Raw, as well as being able to be processed and sharpened as much as you care to without bringing up distracting noise or artifacts. The amount of recovery you can do in a pinch to bring up dark shadowy areas or to rescue apparently blown highlights and have them look natural is great. And if you need a fast shutter in available darkness, just dial in ISO 6400 or higher and the fullframe imager delivers you get creamy smooth results. I was concerned that an older keep on the camera at all times, its that useful 28135 Canon zoom I got back in 2000, wouldnt be sharp enough for the higher photosite density in the 5D Mark IV, but I guess the dual sensor photosites are doing their jobs as I am surprised at the great level of detail even in the full frame 30.3 megapixel captures. And the body is clearly built to last. Prices have dropped in 2020 dontstunt your photography by missing out on one of these awesome cameras.

As a wedding photographer for 6 years, having shot both Canon and Nikon extensively, this camera is a very welcome update to Canons lineup. The high iso performance is very, very good, with ISO 3200 nearly indistinguishable from ISO 100 unless youre peeping at 100. 6400 is exceptionally clean as well, retaining good color and dynamic range. Even 12,800 looks surprisingly good. With some noise reduction 32,000 is even usable.Aside from the extra features like the touch screen, video, and extra buttons and button mapping options, the autofocus system has so far been the best Ive used from any brand. Its very fast, the side focus points dont hesitate, and its accurate. As a big fan of Nikons 3D focus, Im happy to say that Canons ITR performs nearly as well. This type of focus mode has been incredible beneficial for event photography and has become a favorite mode for many situations. And last, the extra resolution is very nice to have. You can apply noise reduction more aggressively when needed and still come out with a sharper photo than with lower resolution cameras.Easily the most versatile professional DSLR on the market.

Outstanding value for the prosumer photographer. It wasnt long ago the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV DSLR Camera body only was 3,500 without any additional lenses. Onsale over Christmas at 1,999 its a steal. Paired with excellent Canon Lseries glass lenses this camera is capable of awardwinning professional photographs. Firmware is updateable, which may add features in the future. This camera can accept both Secure Digital SD and Compact Flash CF memory cards. It is also WiFi and GPS enabled it is possible to use with your smartphone as a remote device helpful for portraits YOU want to be in without having to set up a 2second delay and scurry into the frame.Easy enough for an amateur to use, but complex enough to take SEVERAL advanced courses on, this is a fantastic camera.

I recently purchased the Canon 5D Mark IV to replace my Canon 5D Mark III so my comments focus on my observations of the IV over the III. Matter of fact, I shot a 16 year birthday party last night in a ballroom from early evening to late evening with lights coming through the windows to very little available light using both a Canon 2470mm f2.8L USM and the Canon 70200mm f2.8L USM which Ive had for a couple of years. It seems like both lenses respond even better with the Mark IV. In the early evening I really didnt need any additional light to get absolutely gorgeous photos. Its like the Mark IV can capture pictures the way the human eye can see in low light. I shot both auto and manual with exceptional results. Then later on, I used an onboard LED light rather than flash coming from a video background and had to dim down the LED light at times. I got lots of dancing photos with exceptional quality. Great depth of field, great colors and awesome smiles In the attached photo, I did use Portrait Studio 15 to smoothen the skin and remove blemishes.

As a longtime shooter of the 5D series of Canon EOS cameras, the 5D Mark IV offers the highest quality images and best low lightcapabilities so far. I began my relationship with Canon using the 20D then the first 5D and then the 5D Mark II which I shot with for 15 years. I wanted to change things up and considered switching to The Fujifilm mirrorless system. I was looking into the XT4 and the XPro3. After renting the XPro3 and shooting with it for a few days as well as reading endless reviews of these cameras, I finally decided to stick with the Canon DSLR system. Im glad I did as it offers a level of control I dont get with cameras with an electronic viewfinder. Being able to see what the lens sees as well as allowing me to control the aperture, shutter speed and ISO quickly and on the fly is extremelycomfortable and natural to the way I shoot. I do love the Fuji X series of cameras and I own the X100V, but to me, I dont have the comfort level I do with the 5D Mark IV. So far, Ive only used the camera for one professional shoot but I was able to customize it to how I had my 5D Mark II setup. The images created using the 5D Mark IV paired with the 2470mm L glass is phenomenal. Shooting in RAW, I have such wonderful control and the ability to fine tune the highlights and shadows. I could care less about the video capabilities and really wish this camera was available without the video feature. There doesseem to be a perpetual number of customizations that Ill need to work through. I wish Canon or any camera brand would develop a still photography only camera with very straight forward menus and controls. Basically, a film camera with a digital sensor without spending Leica prices. Having said that, the Canon 5D Mark IV feels great in the hand, is very intuitive, features a great optical view finder and is built like a tank. I held off upgrading my 5D Mark II for many years but Im glad I finally did as I saved several dollars overthe original price when it was first released.

Ive owned the 5d3s for a few years now as a professional photographer and was biding my time on the upgrade as it didnt seem that big a deal. Well after drowning a camera and forcing me to upgrade, Ive discovered I was wrong. The thing that really makes the most difference is the focus. Despite having the same number of focus points, the 5d4 is way faster in low light and with and with wide open primes. It doesnt always quite nail the focus at 1.2 or 1.4, but its pretty close and way more usable than the previous generation. The low light and megapixel upgrades while more modest are also very helpful for someone who regularly enlarges images to 50 and above. Im also very happy to have the battery and configuration of the camera almost identical allowing me to reuse my underwater housing without having to purchase a whole new case.

Very pleased with this having upgraded from a 5D Mark II. I was originally keen to upgrade to the Mark III when it came out but was put off by the initial negative reviews and the increased launch cost, only to see its reputation grow considerably in the time it was available making me regret my decision. The Mark IV again is not seen as revolutionary enough in some quarters exactly as the Mark III was initially but it substantially different to the Mark II and I decided it was time to ignore the naysayers and give it a go.And my first impression I have been really stunned by the performance and changes since the Mark II and a weekend with it has shown me what a considerable upgrade it is albeit quite complex in comparison.I probably shot around 70,000 frames on the Mark II covering wildlife, landscapes, weddings, astrophotography, timelapse and travel so I consider myself pretty familiar with the platform. However, the Mark IV is considerably more advanced and therefore has MANY more options. Consequently it has taken quite a bit of learning and fun experimenting with all the new options to see how it works. The manual is 700 pages But I was still able to pick it up without any of this and see how much of an advance it is.Favourite changes compared to the Mark II1 Autofocus stunningly fast through the viewfinder. Hugely better than the Mark II.2 Autofocus live view I never used this before because it was so bad, but now it is stunning. I can even accurately focus an F11 combo 2x extender and F5.6 lens, something not possible through the viewfinder even on the Mark IV which will only focus an F8 combo.3 Drive. The speed of the drive is incredible compared to the Mark II more than twice as fast. It is also nice to now have a silent shutter option at about half the noise level.4 Wifi. This is really fantastic, simply because I can get images of the camera so quickly. From taking a personal photo to sharing it from my phone takes less than a minute. Previously this would take 1015 by the time I had started the computer and Lightroom and imported the photo. Makes me more likely to use it for personal use rather than just serious photography.5 Resolution. The 50 bump in resolution is really noticeable. I can zoom in considerably more and the options for cropping are obviously much better. I also dont seem to have any issue so far with soft images which people have said happens with high resolution sensors although I have only used L series lens.6 ISO. It is great to have auto ISO with programmable limits now compared to the 5D II but I have been really impressed at how far I can push it. 12800 was something I wouldnt even consider going near with the Mark II but now the quality of this has really blown me away. More like an ISO 3200 image on the Mark II, maybe even better.7 Ergonomics. There are more controls on this which although I am learning are clearly going to be useful for switching settings even more rapidly. It was on the Mark III but for me coming from the Mark II the rating button is also very welcome making sorting the images in the field much easier.8 Timelapse. I do a lot of this and whilst I like my programmable external controller it looks to have enough features to make it practical to use the built in intervalometer instead.9 Touchscreen. This is actually really useful, especially when focusing in live view or zooming images. I am finding I am using the camera in a different way it feels like I am chimping a LOT but the focus is so darn good it seems a shame not toThings I need to get used to1 Battery life. I have been playing around a lot and GPSWifi have been left on for now, but it drops much more quickly than the Mark II.2 Awkward ergonomics using touchscreen. Because your right hand grips the camera you need to loosen that to pinch zoom inout. I have almost dropped the camera several times doing this. I guess the only option is to learn to pinch zoom with my left hand only or always use the strap3 Complexity. The camera has an order of magnitude more options than the Mark II. It has only been one weekend and I need to spend more time getting to know the camera but some bits I will probably never understand. This is probably less of an issue if your are coming from a Mark III.4 Dual Pixel RAW. I have yet to try Dual Pixel images as reviews suggested the effect was so negligible I havent yet tried. In summary I am really pleased I have made the change. I was concerned that the benefit wasnt going to be enough to justify the cost to swap but I can now think it is well worth it.

So far so good, I upgraded to this camera after using the T3i for seven years for semi professional commercial work at the small business level. It was a great starter camera that I got a lot of use out of at the tail end surprising a lot of people that I was using such an old basic camera to achieve the shots I was getting. Needless to say, time for an upgradeRealizing theres a lot of hype right now about mirrorless cameras, I went with the 5D Mark Iv for a few reasons1 EF lenses are at a better price point compared to RF2 solid build quality and battery life3 I like button layout and feel of the 5D M iv4 Dual Pixel autofocus5 Dual card slots compared to cannon Eos R6 Traditional viewfinder Im looking to get a lot of use out of this camera for many years to come, I gave a few mirrorless sonys a try that were a few years old and wasnt a fan of the electronic viewfinder style.7 Professional look and feel of this camera is great, as a 4th gen model in the 5D series its been improved each time so Im confident in using a camera thats been tested and improved8. Quiet shutter, Im starting to do more BTS work, and the dampened shutter sound is a great feature.

For Photos, the Camera is outstanding. First and foremost is the greatly improved dynamic range and reduced nose, particularly with regard to higher ISOs. This and the cameras focusing capabilities, options and tracking capabilities make so many more photos keepers. This camera is there for you when you need it perform and only get one chance to get that perfect photo. I love the touch screen and the live view as well. The touch screen speeds up making changes to and accessing all functions. The Live View comes in handy as well. The camera is incredibly customize able with countless options. I upgraded from a well used Canon 7D. The 5D Mark IV is a quantum leap in capability and functionality. The 30 meg. resolution is more than enough for all purposes including reasonable cropping. The wireless functions are very convenient and useful, although, I find switching from one connection phone to another computer a bit obtuse. On the down side, while only on occasion, I will use video, the 4K file compatibility and file size issues are problematic. Hopefully, it will simply require a software fix. Until then, I will stick with the 1080p video. For the most part, Canon, smartly, listened to its critics, improved the known deficiencies in the 5D Mark IVs predecessors, and produced an excellent product. I would buy it again.

My Canon 5D MK IV is a Llemon. The camera has excessive battery drain. After 50 photos and the battery drops to around 50 I use the same batteries on my 7D MK II and there was no issue at all 242 photos last week and the battery had 70 left I took the camera in as it is still under warranty. they kept it for a week and told me it was repaired. I took the camera out yesterday and it was the same thing 49 photos and the battery was drained to 62. They are now saying that all three of my lenses, SD, and Flash Cards, and three batteries need to be left off and tested even though they work fine on the 7D MII. I told them that was not possible so they said they will not replace the camera. Clearly they cant find the power problem so they are trying to blame the problem elsewhere. I dont know who can afford to replace all their batteries and lenses so the camera will work properly. Although Canon products are generally outstanding beware they will not back a defective product.

Having shot Canons from their many PSs to the 5D series from II forward, like its predecessors, I found this latest iteration to be not just another incremental improvement to push out just another model year like other manufacturers. It is a superior advancement in technology implemented in a familiar interface so as to not create another learning curve. The new double pixel sensor and tracking, as well as focus points, sticks to your intended subject with an almost spooky clairvoyance. Should it mistakenly veer off your subject, it is a simple matter of a button press to reacquire. I am not an exclusive Canon shooter, owning and shooting Nikon, Pentax, and most recently Sony, each have their strengths and weaknesses, and thus their unique purposes. I found the Canon 5Ds to be the cameras I am reaching for when I need a camera system for times when I am unsure of what shooting conditions and subjects I will be encountering and get those must have shots. This Mark IV achieves that purpose and more. I highly recommend Canon as well as their welldeserved reputation for superior customer service.

After renting this camera for a commercial shoot, I fell in love. Between that rental and using the mk4 for several shoots in the last few weeks, heres my list of proscons so farPros It performs significantly better in low light compared to the 5Dmkii and the 6D. Overall, the RAW colors are pretty nice straight out of camera. The dynamic range on RAW files is impressive, I thought I blew out some highlights in certain shots but that wasnt the case. The autofocus tracking is insanely good, and the touch screen trigger is incredible for layflats. Double card slots make it great for video.Cons You definitely need to go in and customize the focusing systems. Straight out of the box its pretty whack. I noticed this while renting it and when I bought it, the first thing I did was go in and set single point focus add custom menus for switching to motion tracking. I wish it had a similar button WB adjustment to the mkii

The skin tone is something Canon is the leader, the focus was hit and miss, the low light was the biggest underperformance since the higher MP captured more details it came with worse noise. Ive tried a number of cameras and keep coming back to this one. The magnesium body. Ability to record raw video, which lowers import times as you dont have to decompress from lousy AVCHD when editing is a huge plus. Make sure you read the supported memory card list. Stick to the fastest Lexar cards. Theyre usually the best. All sensors are cropped in video. They just call it line skipping. This camera does not overheat at all. Other cameras in the same class do and suddenly shut down recording. The ability to use L EF glass is invaluable. Theyre the most available type of lens. Autofocus is the best around.Canon battery life is the best. Not to mention support for widely available Speedlite flashes. Canon CPS is unmatched. I used original 5D and 5D MkII but skipped MkIII version due to lack of updates in sensor resolution and dynamic range, especially noisy shadows. Ive been using Canon 6D instead for the past three years, and I think that its one of the best values in camera world. I hesitated to even try out the new 5D MkIV and was contemplating jumping ship over to Sony and their amazing a7R II. Well, I can say Im extremely glad I went with MkIV. Camera is a huge upgrade from 6D in every sense, especially AF, but also enormous sensor quality upgrade compared to 5D MkIII. Im using 1DX MkII as well, and I prefer 5D MkIV. Camera body is very light, super responsive, AF performance is on par with 1DX MkII, but sensor is simply phenomenal. Dynamic range is 90 identical to Sony a7R II but you get to keep Canons beautiful colors and skin tones. 30Mpx is plenty Im printing 24×36 regularly and the files are simply beautiful. Im not shooting lots of video, but from what Ive seen so far, the quality is stunning. I bought this around a week and a half ago. I decided i wanted to step up to full frame and I wanted the 24105 f4 L 2 lens too. Got them as a kit. Great move. I have taken pictures that i am sure i could have taken on other cameras, but the setup time due to the lack of dynamic range on other cameras would have been far longer. The ability to crop while retaining so much detail due to the extra resolution is phenomenal. The only thing I did not like was that it came with only a single focus point on by default unless shooting in Auto, and not to sound a snob but who with this camera is likely to shoot auto It was an easy change but i would have thought that since one big draw is the 61 point AF system that all 61 would have been on by default yes, the AF system really is as good as it is made out to be.I went all out on this and as above got the 24105 lens, absolute magic. I got a Tamron 100400 which has shown amazing results also. Im now beginning to doubt Im the one taking the photos the camera just gets that good a result.Seriously though, the colours are awesome, my models have loved the results straight from the camera, im doing less editing now so they get their photos faster, and I get back to doing my day job faster, win win for everybody.

I primarily take personal photos but do volunteer as a photographer for charity events mostly cycling as well as some galas, take pictures of rocket launches, have assisted on one wedding, and have used macro photography as a quality inspection tool in the production of high precision electrical cable components. My wife and I have a new baby and twice this year I have been tempted to go with a Sony a7R ii. We had a 5D mk ii but bought a Canon M3 to take home videos. The touch screen capabilities for video were fantastic, but the photos were obviously not on par with a full frame camera. I preordered the 5d mk iv because it was reported it would improve on dynamic range and believably would focus better than the 5d mk ii. It does all of this and I am happy that it focuses on hard, straight lines very well in low light and can also find my infant sons face, albeit a bit slower, in the same low light without an external flash focus assist. Observationally, I agree with third party review sites that shadows can be brightened by a couple of stops and highlights can be somewhat more recoverable than the 5d mk ii, so dynamic range has been improved. In unprofessional use, I think the Sony would make a better walk around camera by being smaller and offering sensor based image stabilization. However, the 5d mk iv allows me to best use my existing lenses and external flash without concern for the performance of a third party converter. This includes use of 400mm 5.6L with a 1.4x teleconverter for rocket launches and birding. Still, I wish I could have a camera the size of the Sony with built in image stabilization to make my 1740mm F4L non IS lens more useful. Its a shame that I recently had to use ISO3200 at the Naval Academy Crypt of John Paul Jones even though ISO3200 appears considerably cleaner from the 5d mk iv than I am used to from the mk ii.

I hope for this review to be as well rounded as possible. First off i am a Photographer Filmmaker, so my first box i needed to check off for a new camera was for it to be highly capable in both shooting environments. On the photo side of things, I started my professional fullframe photography journey with a nonfunctional Canon 6d that i purchased off of craigslist that i was able to bring it back to life long story lol anyway the 6d become the first full frame camera i ever owned and completely changed the way i took pictures emphasis on pictures.Although it does shoot video, if you are serious about your video work you soon realize the limitations of post production when it comes how pliable the footage is before it completely falls apart. You know the usual suspects Easily blown highlights, unrecoverable shadows, artifacting. In comes the Mark IV with its dual pixel autofocus technology, 18000 max shutter speed for shooting fast glass in daylight goodbye heavy color shifting Neutral density filters, 4k video up to 29.97fps i was certainly eager to trade up my 6d but the cost difference was significantSo i toyed with idea for a couple of months Longgg months and upon waiting a rumor came out that suggested canon would add their Log Profile to the camera. The announcement certainly added more fuel to the fire but i was still not ready to fork over so much money for a camera. In came the Canon 6d Mark ii, hmm definitely closer to the budget i had in mind. With atleast some of the newer tech inside which would help me out alot, atleast on the photography side of things.I went for it did a few jobs and quickly realized everything was upgraded except for the most important part, the SENSOR Even small lifts to shadow areas or pull downs from overexposed highlights showed just how unforgiving it was especially for event shooters. If you are the portrait and studio types than no worries you have time to get more favorable working conditions. I tried to like it but unfornately i returned the 6d Mark ii within 2 weeks By this time though, the Mark IV w Canon Log had already been released. As i went back to return the 6d Mark ii after downloading and playing with the 5d Mark IV files, for comparison, i was convinced. I needed the 5d Mark IV in my arsenal.I purchased the 5D that same day and never looked back The raw photo files are highly recoverable. There were multiple times when i thought i lost a photo and to my surprise the lightroom sliders brought it right back to life As for video, People complain about the 422 4K MJPEG Codec but if you handle the files properly it is absolutely beautiful footage, especially when shooting in Canon Log be careful not to underexpose though as Canon Log seems to favor holding on to the highlights over saving the shadow areas. It is almost magical how the highlights are held onto in Canon Log versus the standard profiles. For editing purposes i immediately transcode the MJPEG footage using a program called MPEG StreamClip to a DNxHR low bitrate file which matches source exactly by providing a output file that is 422 8bit but at 13rd the file size of the original. I will end this review with these words of caution if you are considering this camera for shooting video.1. That 1.74x crop factor can be a really stressful adjustment. Id consider purchasing the Sigma 1835mm to help gain back some focal length on the wide end giving you a full frame equiv. Of approx. 31mm.2. Which kind of ties into the the first point. Jello cam is definitely a issue you have to be aware of, especially when shooting in 4K. I can see why they chose such a high croo factor any sudden jerks to the camera or sudden movement from your subjects and youll quickly see the rolling shutter monster rare its ugly head. Not showstopping but depending on your level of production it can be unacceptable.3. 4K video shooting eats LPE6ns for breakfast. So either buy them like candy or figure out a shooting solution such as using a dummy lpe6 battery and run the cord out to a sony Npf etc.4. 4K recording is only internal. If you go external however you can record an 8bit 422 1080p as opposed to the internal 8bit 420 1080p file.5. To maximize editablity id suggest picking up a white balance tool i.e. color checker passport etc so that you can capture the most acccurate picture possible. Therefore youll have more wiggle room for color grading without wasting it on color correcting footage that is way off. Since its still an 8bit file at the end of the day.I hope this helps tremendously for anyone who was or is in a similar position as i was. Sometimes its hard to get all the info you need in one place.

Ive been a shooter of the OTHER brand of Japanese camera for over 25 years but recently wanted to switch up my gear to Canon. And all I can say is that I waited 25 years too long The 5D Mark IV is incredible The clarity and reproduction of colors right out of the camera is like nothing Ive ever experienced before My postproduction workflow has been greatly simplified by not having to adjust as many parameters as with the other brand of cameraI mainly use the camera to take sports action shots and the autofocus system is superb You may be asking yourself Hey buddy, only 7 fps so its not really a sports camera Well, sir I beg to differ. Yes, you can go buy the 1DX if you want to spray and pray, but the 5D MIV is very well equipped with its autofocus which you can fine tune and knowing where your subject will be and when to shoot away is just as good as 15 fps and an extra After completing my first photoshoot in the park, this camera did not disappoint. Colors, IQ, sharpness, and exposure were all on point. It goes above and beyond what the other guys offer. And believe me, I knowTo all my fellow photographers out there that are on the fence about whether or not to switch gear and reinvest in another brand, I say DO IT I was in the same boat due to the amount of time, money, and shear knowledge of operating the other guys gear for so many years. I went for it and took the risk and that risk was TRULY worth it You wont regret it

I bought the 5D Mark IV from BH awhile ago and have had the opportunity to use it for corporate jobs, headshots, and travel photography. It is a beautiful camera, versatile, and compared to the 1DX mark ii, light weight. My policy is if the subject moves quickly like a speed skater, I shoot the 1DX mark ii. If the subject does not move as quickly, such as shooting a portrait, the 5D mark iv is a great choice. If you pair this body with a 2470 f2.8L you will have one of the most useful packages in your hand. You can shoot a lot of different things. A few nits. For this kind of money, Canon should include C Log with the camera, out of the box. While the camera has decent weather sealing, its not in the same league as the 1DX mark ii. But its a lot less money and a lot less weight. Overall, I think this camera is about as close to perfect as you can get. Im not an insane Canon person. I have friends who shoot Nikon as well as Sony and those are nice cameras as well. But if you have bought into Canon lenses, love to have quality support from Canon Professional Services, and enjoy weather sealing, this is the way to go.

I love this camera. The bundle was a good value. I think the value could be improved by ditching the software and replacing with two additional batteries, or including a CF card. The con The included usb card reader does not have a CF card slot. Thats it, the only detraction for the bundle.

The Canon EOS 5D Mark 4 may or may not have an electrical energy shielding issue as I will explain. Bought my Mark 4 from BH shortly before my second three month journey to France in 2017. I love the camera but it was affected by a problem that still worries me.Likewise I still love and use the older Mark 2 that I carried previously on a 2011 Paris journey. I had no major problems with either camera except the one I will describe. In 2017, I was using my Mark 4 to do tripod shots mostly all over the streets of Paris. I was hauling a lot of fast and heavy glass, i.e. about 6 or 7 good Canon lenses every day, doing mostly high resolution raw still shots and a small amount of video at FHD full high def1080p and lower resolutions. I rarely use 4k when traveling since video is not my primary application.Less than a week before my three month 2017 journey ended, I was on a train coming into Gar Est East Station from the Paris suburb of Le PerreuxsurMarne. I was doing scenic video of the trains slow approach into the large station in the last few minutes until it stopped at the platform, just as I had done before when approaching the same station. In the last few dozen meters of the ride, the train was at crawl speed.Within seconds before the train fully stopped, my video image began breaking up. There may have been another train operating on an adjacent platform, I dont recall.Thereafter many if not most video and still images from this Mark 4 were likewise broken up and worthless. The distorted images were shown in both realtime and on computer playback, so it was not an issue with the fast compact flash card or the camera display.Luckily this was near the end of my 3 month journey after I had shot countless thousands of great images. The camera was under warranty. When returning the camera for repair, I proposed to Canon my near certain theory that the cause of the damage had to be electromagnetic field EMF energy from the train station. I believe that these electric regional trains have electromagnetic regenerative braking systems. Hence, when the train stopped, it may have generated a lot of electrical energy that was not or could not be properly shielded from release at the trains, and was perhaps the camera was not properly shielded either. Additionally, an adjacent train may have been a source of damaging EMF energy.Considering that I had shot countless thousands of still images and much video without problem until the exact moment that this particular train stopped at Gar Est, I feel almost totally convinced that my train EMF theory is correct.Canon honorably repaired the camera under warranty at no charge with no comment on my EMF damage theory. On that basis and my inability to know if camera shielding was deficient, I cannot be sure that this is a problem unique to Canon or the 5D Mark 4. Nor do I know if electrical shielding incamera, can reliably prevent damage from high energy EMFproducing trains. This may be a rare problem since most users do not do video until the very last moment that an electrically powered train is stopped. It is commonly assumed that all cameras are well shielded against EMF. But Im not so sure that the shielding in any digital camera is adequate to prevent damage in all situations. I was unable to find much about the topic of EMF damage to cameras. I would suggest it needs more attention.Given that the problem may or may not be unique to the 5D Mark 4, I dont have enough evidence to pin down the blame. Thus, I would still give this camera 5 stars.

I love it for photos enough that Im still giving it 5 stars. For video, Id give it 1 star. I bought this camera with the benefit of a doubt that I can use it for video on occasion. It was not worth the extra money. Being an owner of the GH5, I would never recommend this camera for someone looking to shoot a lot of 4K video or even 1080p video with it over something more dedicated. Canon Log, although 8bit, is light years ahead of 10bit VLog L. You can really shoot with Canon Log all the time, and never have issues with pulling out good video footage. Try that with other log profiles and youre really asking for trouble. The biggest problem with 4K on the 5D4 is the rolling shutter. Its really bad. Peoples faces get wobbly for tight portrait shots. Couple that with the inability to handhold it because it lacks IBIS, you got a wobbly video camera with amazing Canon Log that only works in very select situations. The crop isnt too bad if you use zoom lenses, but if you use primes, it just doesnt make sense to bounce back from the crop factor. 1080p is very usable however put it side by side with the GH5s 1080p, its a few generations behind in terms of quality. But if you dont do sidebyside comparisons, youll be fine doing some occasional video work where there isnt so much movement and you need 2 stops of dynamic range.

I ordered this camera the week it was released about 2.5 years ago. Upgraded from the 5D Mk III, that I felt had some minor issues with less than stellar noise in low light photography, subpar resolution and dynamic range that leaves a lot to be desired, and too few AF points. Mostly using my camera for travel photography, I also hated that I had to use a hot shoe addon that needed a separate battery just to record GPS…Fast forward to the IV, and all these issues have been addressed with more, more accurate and faster AFs great resolution 30MP that in my opinion is just the right spot below 2224, its just too few, and above 35 the RAW files are just too massive unwieldy included GPS outstanding dynamic range good noise in low light that can be mostly removed in post processing and as a bonus, a visible through the viewfinder electronic level The latter can save you quite a bit of time in postprocessing, when you dont have to straighten the horizon in hundreds of pictures. The addition of an HDR shooting mode thats reasonably well customizable, is a big bonus over prior iterations of this legendary camera. In combination with the 2470 f2.8 L lens, this is an unbeatable cameralens combo that produces tack sharp, beautiful pictures, that look stunning after some minor postprocessing. Even if you shoot in JPEG, those come out spectacular straight out of the camera.Overall, no complaints with this camera, no significant features are missing the addition of 4K video is a bonus, but not a key feature of this particular camera, so I dont understand why people are complaining about it. Want a video camera Get one that is designed for that purposeOnly concern with Canon is that I have no real needs that Im looking forward to addressing perhaps with the next model Mk v so I wont be in a rush to upgrading any time soon.

My previous camera was the Canon T7i, which was rock solid for me. I wanted to upgrade to a Full Frame camera that would also handle low light better. The 5D has been a massive game changer for the Wildlife photos I take. My images are sharper with less noise. There is a lot to love about the camera. Extremely satisfied with the 5D .

I was always quite impressed by my 5D Mark ii, but this camera surpasses it by a bigger margin than I expected it would. For some reason the Mark iv feels much better than the Mark ii did, it has a very nice feel of quality and build quality. A lot of the controls are very similar or a logical follow on within the progression of the periodic Canon updates. The shutter sounds so much better now, as well as the mechanical feels that it transmits. The focusing ability is awesome and produces very sharp images virtually all the time. So far, the soft ones have probably been down to me. Adding to this, all of my lenses mostly Ls now seem to work even better than they did I was close to selling a couple of them prior to buying this camera, but not now.Im not bothered about the video capability I just wanted a topclass DSLR, which I seem to now have. I feel that I will own this one far longer than I had the Mark ii as it just seems so much more uptodate and complete as a package. From all the research I carried out before I bought this camera, it seems that technology has now levelled out a little, which should help to give this camera some longevity. There are some other impressive cameras available, but Im very pleased I went for this and have no regrets whatsoever. I have to admit that I did consider selling all my kit an and moving over to Nikon, but am glad I stayed with Canon and chose the Mark iv in particular.

Coming from a 5D Mk III, I was a little skeptical about upgrading. After all, on paper, all I would get was a few more megapixels, a little more movie capability, and a number of small improvements. But the story on paper doesnt tell all. The new sensor is a step up in dynamic range exposure latitude over the Mk III, with an improvement at all ISO levels, but especially at the lower ISO range. While the advantage is a very modest half stop at higher ISO settings, the low noise floor of the new sensor affords at least a stop more latitude from around ISO 400 down to 50, its lowest setting. This has been a welcome improvement to Canons lineup as it allows extracting more detail out of dark shadows without having to fight image noise. Besides the sensor, the AF system has been improved. It is very fast to focus, almost as if the camera is eager to take the shot. It will AF with f8 lensteleconverter combinations across most of the AF region rather than just the center of the frame. This is helpful for sports and wildlife photography where longer lenses prevail. The dual pixel autofocus, used in live view, is an excellent addition. It is also welcome in movie mode as I understand. Ergonomically, a lot of modest improvements, some of which may be major to the user depending on the type of photography they do. The remote shutter release plug has been moved to the front of the body. The new LCD screen is a touch screen that works very well with live view dualpixel autofocus. The viewfinder shows considerably more information so that you can perform tasks like changing ISO, focus mode, or metering mode without removing your eye from the viewfinder. It includes WiFi and GPS, neither of which I have used much yet but I intend to explore these functions. As for video modes, Ill leave that up to others. I am not well versed in the world of moving pictures so it would not be my place to comment on that aspect of the camera.

My DSL progression has been as follows Canon 20D 50D 7D 5D Mark III and now 5D Mark IV. I say this because I believe that I am the second target demographic for this camera, the first being the professional wedding photographer. So, the question is Is this the update Ive been waiting forMy answer Yes mostlyMy update requests were Higher resolution, greater dynamic range, improved video ability to actually focus while filming, GPS because, why not, and faster shutter speed. Ill take these 1 at a time.Resolution I was hoping for 36MP. Same as Nikon 810. Why that number Maybe so that we I identify with Canon now, although I had been a Nikon film user can be on equal footing with Nikon. Or maybe the number 36 resonates from the film days. We got 30MP. Definitely enough, but leaves me with a little sigh.Dynamic Range We definitely got improved dynamic range in the shadows. I dont know if its me, or the camera, and I definitely did not do a side by side comparison I eBayed my 5D Mark III while this one was in transit, or use test charts Ill leave that to the pros, but the quality of the skin tones, whatever that means, seems a bit different. I am shooting in Raw and it may be that I may have to process the pictures differently in Lightroom, so Im not saying this is a camera issue, but something, to me, seems different about the quality of the skin tones. And I loved the skin tones of the 5D Mark III, and 7D for that matter. Also, seems weird to say, but the clouds look different too. I dont know if that means by improving the DR in the shadows, somehow we lost DR in the highlights or its operator error meaning me so I hope someone with acutal test equipment tests this out soon. FYI by different I mean I like it a little less.Video Awesomely improved. I rarely use video, but now we can actually focus using the touch screen and it will actually focus track Thats an amazing improvement and everything else oh I cant shoot 4K at 120fps is BS as far as Im concerned. But, the audio is not that great from the built in mic. So if I start doing more video, Ill have to get an external mic.Shutter speed 1 more FPS. Not earth shattering, but it is faster, and certainly faster. And, with the exception of sports shooting where I wish I had the 7D because, yes faster, but also to get closer to the action, its fast enough.GPS CheckTouch screen Not on my wish list. I couldnt care less if they added this or not. Or so I thought. WOW I didnt know how useful this was until I finally have it. It makes EVERYTHING better. I never thought I had a problem navigating the menus, but now, if I had to scroll through using the dial, I would be frustrated beyond belief. Adjusting setting with Q button and touch screen Amazing If you havent try this, you must. This makes operation so much faster and easier. AND, we can now touch to focus in video AND in live view. Im really excited about this because its a feature I never thought I needed and now dont know how I survided without it. Dont underestimate the usefulness of the touch screenFinally, this camera is a great improvement in so many ways to a camera that I still think is outstanding the 5D Mark III that it definitely deserves 5 stars.

Having owned a T1i, 70D and 90D, I like Canon.Debated long and hard when deciding to go with the 90D instead of the 5D. Opted not to spend the extra money. The 90D is an excellent camera, but, its not full frame. I decided that you only live once, so I bought the 5D 8 months later. Right move. The controls are highly customizable allowing you to make the complex features easy to use quickly, e.g. AF features by reassigning button function.I already owned several L class lenses and added the 2470L f2.8. Now Im pretty well set for landscape, travel and wildlife photography.BH is easy to deal with and their technical staff is very knowledgeable.Having the PayBoo card saves me on every purchase.

I upgraded from a 5D MkII, so I benefit from two generations of improvements. That said, it doesnt seem way better, particularly for the price. So negatives adobe didnt have dual pixel support ready, and in fact Photoshop CC couldnt even open the nondual pixel RAW files. Why did I rush The canon software isnt that great, and the dual pixel adjustments are very underwhelming and to me, not worth that huge increase in file size. There is potential down the road for dual pixel, but that was the case for video and the MkII but to really get good video you had to wait until later generations. That leads me to the video awesome that you can auto focus and target track while shooting video, and you can shoot 4K I dont need 120 fps. However, the audio is a real problem with autofocus even with a quiet lens because its autofocusing in real time right next to the mic the video is almost unusable unless you have an independent mic, which reduces usability of the camera in snap moments, like when you want to capture your kid riding a bike for the first time. Finally, I was hoping for more dynamic range that was the biggest thing on my wish list. So far and I havent pushed the camera enough to say this with confidence the bump in dynamic range above the MkII hasnt impressed me. All that said, I wouldnt rely too much on this review to influence you, as Im only a few score of photos in and havent tested in many lighting and subject environments yet.

I finally made the jump from my trusty Canon 80D to this body. I havent had much opportunity to use it yet, but was out on a cloudy day and got much finer detail on a distant Northern Shrike than Ive ever been able to get before at that low light level and distance. A very rare for northern Minnesota Barn Owl was in a field and seen only in flight, and although my shots werent greatthe bird was moving, I was shivering, and the 300mm f2.8 lens is heavybut my photos turned out much better than anything I could have taken with the 80D under those conditionsthe camera focused much faster than Im used to.Im going to thoroughly enjoy the full frame sensor and the superb light sensitivity for bird photography.

Im an amateur photographer and upgraded to this body from my 5D Mark II. Its a huge improvement in a number of areas. Of course the image quality and high ISO performance have improved significantly, and you can also shoot at a low ISO and do insane pulls in lightroom, even 5EV and get pretty clean results, much more than you could with the Mark II. The AF system is also leaps and bounds ahead of what I got on the Mark II, though I still dont find it quite as good as the Nikon D810 which I dont own but played with for about an hour in the store, doing comparisons to this camera. As stated in some reviews online, the intelligent tracking system just isnt as impressive as Nikons. That having been said, Im getting 70 keepers on shots with difficult moving subjects with this camera that would have been just 20 keepers on the Mark II. I also suspect that my older lenses AF speed may be holding me back somewhat. There are also huge numbers of small improvements to this camera that really add up. Wifi transfer of images straight to your smartphone so you can then share them online instantly, GPS, USB3 yes, it actually comes with a USB3 connector and I confirmed it was using USB3 mode when communicating with my windows desktop, HDR, high FPS mode, and the list goes on. Probably my biggest complaint is the video. Canon clearly intentionally held video back on this camera so it didnt compete with their Pro video products. Even my 1000 Sony rxv100 iv has 4K output over HDMI, what the hell, Canon And the 4K codec on this camera is ideal for grabbing stills which is nice, but the data rate is so high that its almost useless. Canon, please give us AVCH264 already. Again, my 1.5 year old 1000 Sony compact has 4K with this codec, why cant you So I basically just pretend this camera doesnt have 4K, and stick to 1080p. If you do that, youll be satisfied. Expect to use 4K and youll be frustrated. Overall, a huge improvement over the Mark II 4.5 stars.

I am a fine art photographer who regularly exhibits and sells my work in galleries. I have worked with Canons 5D Mk III since 2012 and have been absolutely satisfied. My decision to upgrade was based on the slightly higher resolution read the ability to print my fine art images a little larger, as well as the WIFI and GPS capabilities.I expected the Mark IV to be every bit of the camera as the Mark III with just a slight bump in image size and a few extra features to simplify my workflow. It has met that expectation, and then some. The two features that interested me most were the builtin intervalometer and the WIFI connectivity. I often work with longer exposure times and have had to keep an extra shutterrelease remote in my kit in order to achieve shutter speeds longer than 30 seconds when doing long exposure landscape and architecture work. With the Mark IV all I need is my camera.Secondly, I often have my camera in positions that make it difficult to see the viewfinder andor live view screen. The WIFI connectivity enables me to use my iPhone as a live viewfinder AND a shutter release remote.I put this to the test in my shower stall for an image I had wanted to make for a while, but couldnt because the composition I had in mind would put my camera only a couple inches from the back wall, making it impossible for me to see the viewfinder or live view monitor. Within a few days after receiving my Mark IV I had the image I wanted.I am very pleased with the image quality, and was pleasantly surprised by the exposure latitude I had in postproduction. This interior shot was made in front of an open window with objects silhouetted against it. I had expected to have to decide whether to sacrifice shadow or highlight details as a result. However, when I looked at the histogram, it was all there. Pulling it into in Photoshop, I can see detail across the entire tonal range. I was able to boost clarity and contrast a little without clipping shadows or highlights. I believe this exceeds the dynamic range I had with the Mark III.In short, I was a happy Mark III user for five years, and I would have been happy to keep shooting with my Mark III. I do not regret upgrading to the Mark IV, and am very pleased with the added features, resolution, and dynamic range I now have in the Mark IV.Johnny Kerr

If you are here looking at this camera i am SURE you have seen a ton of reviews and YouTube videos about it already, so i will keep this short. The new features are really great, image quality is awesome and i am comparing with the 5DsR, and 4k MP4 format is a must thats missing. In a bit MORE DETAIL I had a few Rebels, the 7DII, the 6D and the 5DsR so far. This camera is my new favorite. Sure i miss the 50MP of the DsR sometimes but only when i heavily crop. The image quality from the 5DIV is stunning. The new sensor is very good. Dual Pixel AF is just fast and accurate and works phenomenal in Live View. The touchscreen is a DREAM COME TRUE for me and it is fast and very responsive. I really love the new touchscreen some dont care, but if you wished or one, this works really great. WiFi and NFC are really not that hard to setup and they work. GPS is something only my 7DII had so far, and i personally like it and use the log feature when i go for wildlife photography. Again image quality is great, AF is sharp, all the detail i want is there. Finally, movies the only let down from this camera. Canon WTH 4k MOV is fine for pulling 8MP stills from video this works great BTW but for nothing else. Canon needs to add MP4 support for 4k. With that rant out of the way, FHD in MP4 works well but we already had that. Great camera overall and you know that you cannot beat Canon Lens in quality and price Also, i personally really love the userinterface, and actually is the UI and lens that keeps me going back to Canon cameras i have tried Nikon and Sony.

Where to begin What an amazing bundle, it comes with everything that someone could ever need, besides the lens of course. Which I have several L series purchased from Adorama. The camera is lightning fast and I use it for literally everything I shoot. I wish it had a flip out screen but other than that I am highly satisfied with my purchase. The camera responds well and even after years of owning it I still havent gone through much of the video aspects of the camera so if youre using it mainly for video I wouldnt be able to give you an honest review but for photo everything under the sun is great It even works really well for astrophotography with not a lot of noise at higher ISO

Recently I purchased Canon 5D M4 from ABT. I shop there all the time. I like the products that ABT offers but moreover I like the friendly and knowledgeable sales personnel. It is a hassle free experience. I was very pleased to meet Mariola Skoczek, a photo sales representative who had answered all my questions and explained which product is best for me. She went over quite a few cameras and lenses. I was pleased with her knowledge and recommendations. My part was quite easy, I just paid the bill with a very nice purchase experience. I will definitely buy more products from her and recommend to other customers. Great job Mariola I like my camera too, cant wait for Christmas to use it for taking family pictures. As a magazine photographer, this camera seems to really bring home all I am looking for in a camera. First, I have been shooting with 8mp all the way up to 50mp. Back in the day, 8mp certainly worked, but Ive quickly realized that 20mp really helps in all categories for my work. The 36mp in my friends D810 was always a pipe dream, but that camera is really slow to work with by comparison. Canon has 50mp in the 5DSR and older sensor technology but it was, at least for me, a one trick pony. It too was slower to work with and the poor dynamic range recovery really never appealed enough for to open my wallet and buy a camera that couldnt fully replace my 5D Mark III. In a studio, the 5DS is a beast, but I dont have the luxury of that all the time. The Mark IV, on the other hand, shipped with 30mp. My first week with the camera back in September I shot a race and 6 magazine features and REALLY pushed the cameras performance. The sensor performance has been nothing short of phenomenal. Its able to really bring Canon into the modern era of noise, shadow recovery, and color depth all while providing that genuine Canon look thats both faithful and accurate to life….unlike the weird greens, blues, and reds seen from OTHER sensors. Yes, including RAW. I edit my second shooters Nikon files and images occasionally have a truly funky color palette. The WiFi was a feature loved on my 6D for real estate and this camera was finally able to replace it. It was recently discovered on a shoot just how useful WiFi was as I was shooting a magazine cover and downloaded test shots to my phone then sent high resolution files to the editor to review remotely on a computer to provide his input marvelous The speed is even FASTER than my 5D3. THIS is where the camera shines versus its competition. Nothing comes close to its speed to file size ratio. Use an A7RA7RII, D800810, and a 5DSR and the FIRST thing you notice at least I notice is how slow the cameras feels. The file sizes from these cameras are certainly large and helps explain why they seem to bog down in various shooting scenarios the Sonys are a total joke to shoot with rapidly, but the 5D Mark IV manages to find a sweet spot of performance where it still feels snappy, responsive, and dareIsaysporty even in high demand shooting. At a wedding, 30mp works very well. The 5DS scared the heck out of my hard drives should I use one at a wedding or event, but this really is a sweet spot. The AF performance is rather good. Coming from a 5D3, the low light AF is vastly improved. Coming from a 1DX Mark II, the AF feels a bit lethargic, but it also doesnt use a dedicated processor just for the autofocus like the 1DX series and 7D series so thats to be expected. But the module itself is plucked from the new 1D and it shows. In all but the most demanding situations, this system will track subjects reliably and work very well with fast lenses even in very dim light. The 5D3s autofocus was…good for its time, but simply didnt work in some light situations. I havent found that to be the case with the 5D4 in normal working situations like dim weddings and night racing. Is it all good No. You will always want more and while I dont notice much difference in performance from a Nikon D750, the D810 still crushes this sensor in dynamic range and color depth, but not necessarily color performance see above. Canon could have taken the camera a bit further but truly held back to save other models like the cinema series and 1DXII. Could they have delivered a better 4K Codec, a better SD card slotCFast, 8 or 9fps, a better all crosstype AF module Yes. But nobody else does or did at the time for this kind of money. Unfortunately, design decisions made here and with the 1DXII have written the story for the new 6Ds shortcomings and other future Canon models.

This camera is awesome Totally exceeded my expectations. The image quality is amazing, and the video quality is better than any camera Ive ever used. Its nice that it is touch screen. One thing I was surprised about is that you can set it to keep taking pictures so that you could set up a tripod and be in some photos. This is the only camera I know of that you can set how many and how often you want it to take pictures. I set it for every 3 seconds it takes a photo up to 30 photos. Extremely helpful while capturing our Christmas card photos with dogs Also, Connor at the Niagara Falls Blvd location was extremely helpful. He wasnt even in the camera section but he came over and helped. He is knowledgable and I was thankful he was there to answer questions.

I couldnt be more pleased with the Canon 5D Mark IV. It has all the features I need for my style of shooting photographs. Paired with my Canon lenses 50mm, 24x70mm, 200mm and 100x400mm plus teleconverters. I have had no problems with AF with the Canon teleconverters on my 100x400mm lens as I have seen on other reviews. Over all great camera. I have had the 5D Mark II For years, just up graded and so glad I did

Late to the show, but cant resist the price. I have way too much Canon glass to make the leap to mirrorless. This will last me a few years while the mirrorless market matures. I am impressed with the focusing ability and the increase in resolution over my 6D. Also happy to add anther Flashpoint Speedlight to my small collection. Great combination.

I cant rave enough about this camera. If you are a working professional photographer and already invested into the Canon system then look no further because the Canon 5D Mark IV is a wonderful upgrade. The dual pixel auto focus is amazing You get a touch screen and the screen is sharper then its predecessor, the camera body is a little lighter then the mark 3, the ISO is much cleaner in high settings and the dynamic range has improved. The video side of things is great yet frustrating. If you plan on shooting in FHD 1080p then you got nothing to worry about. You get 24fps 30fps, 60fps finally and 120fps slow motion will be smooth as butter. This camera also shoots in 4k and produces amazing results However it does have its downside to that. There are only two major cons for recording in 4k but you can work around these cons. First, the 4k is cropped into the sensor by 1.74x. Meaning your wide angel lens isnt so wide anymore. For example a 24mm lens would get a felid of view similar to a 40mm lens. One way to work around this is to get a wider lens like a 815mm lens. The second con is that this camera will record 4k video in large files sizes, meaning you would need a larger capacity memory cards to get through the day. Color grading these video files are so much better then the Sony A7 series. Thats just my opinion. If you are a hybrid shooter and the video aspect is a concern but willing to work around these problems, then you wont be disappointed. The dual auto focus for video is a strong feature many videographers love. I will definitely recommend this camera to anyone who is already a Canon shooter that is looking to upgrade.

As a professor of photography, I use a lot of cameras. Its an amazing camera with great image quality and ease of operation, as you would come to expect from a camera of this caliber and reputation. But what really surprised me about this body is the dualpixel AF for video. Its a real game changer for working with video, as it allows you to do complex focus pulls and tracking that would normally require a cinema lens and several people to pull off. There are other cameras with better specs, but I feel that the tradeoffs that Canon made provide a better overall package than any other cameras on the market. In case anyone else is working with professional cinema projects, the 5D Mk IV video color grades seamlessly with footage from the C300 Mk IV. I just shot a project with my 5D IV and the C300 II, and it meshes really well.Well done, Canon.

Im puzzled by the poor reviewers my guess is they misunderstood this camera and why would you even bother comparing to the 5Ds seriesAfter renting the MKIV it was a matter of hours and it was purchased. Good ISO performance Fast focusing very good image quality gret shutter not loud at ALL even in normal mode and feels solid Excellent at weddingsAnd all the new features of touch screen is very nice and easy to use.The MKIV out does the Sony is far from good for event i.e wedding etc where as the MKIV is a far better performer all round. And honestly who really is shooting highre than 6400 ISO and why Point being in the right hands this is a very good camerawith great image quality, speed and performance.I understand if it does not meet video requirements to some, but in my world I could care less if it did and if I were Canon I would just make the 5D series all of them strictly photography only and save me a dollar or two by eliminating any video.Just my thoughts as a PHOTOGRAPHER incidentally we let a videographer try it at a wedding and they were unexpectedly impressed. We tested the latest Sony, the Pentax K1 and the MKIV and the only camera that handled all aspects of an 8 hour wedding day was the Canon.

After also considering a 7D Mark II due to price, I decided to purchase the 5D Mark IV and I am so happy I did. This is an amazing camera Ive taken indoor photos in low light without a flash and I am really impressed with the quality of the photos. A handheld photo from 30 away at ISO8000 is so clear when zoomed in on the sheet music one can read the notes. Even at ISO12800 the photos are remarkably clean. The autofocus is fast and accurate. Wedding photographers will love this camera. While I didnt purchase the 5D Mark IV for video, I found the quality to be very good. If you are considering this camera but hesitant due to price, buy it You will not regret it.

I decided to upgrade from my EOS 5D to the current model. I considered switching to one of the high end Nikons which have even more megapixels but elected to stay with the Canon in order to keep using the lenses I already have. A few days after the camera arrived I took it on hikingphotography trip to Great Basin in Nevada and Bryce Canyon in Utah. The camera worked flawlessly and took excellent pictures even in the fully automatic setting. Setting up the Canon software that came with the camera was straightforward, though I use Lightroom to process the pictures rather than the Canon software. I used the camera to shoot a number of pictures in Bryce at night with a full moon and the camera performed well. I used the Canon app to operate the camera in the dark which meant that I could dispense with a cable releaseremote. The app is not entirely intuitive, but it works well and allows you to operate the camera remotely with ease. I have had the camera for only a month, but so far it has been excellent and without defect.

Absolutely amazing camera to own. It does everything I need so hopefully theres no need to upgrade until the mirrorless generation of cameras become better and more affordable to non professional photographers. With the 5d Mark 4 I really like the personalised function button options as it allows me to quickly change from one style of shooting to another at the press of a button. This comes in very useful when photographing my dog out in the field. O can switch from a portrait to action for in a second.I have upgraded from the 750d which I still own and love as a lighter weight camera but I have to say theres a huge difference in image sharpness.

I have the highest quality lenses. I bought 3 5D Mark IV. One shutter stopped working. I have noticed a consistent lack of quality with the focus. I keep thinking it was maybe me. Maybe it was the lense. Bought I have been using it for about a year now. I am thoroughly disappointed. Both cameras have some inconsistency when it comes to focusing. pretty bummed. I own a 5D Mark II and have never had a problem with that camera. It has been consistent with my 5D Mark IV. I even sent it in to get fixed and it is still having problems.

Arrived well packed, clean and on time. I dropped my Mark iii at the beginning of a year, and was under a lot of pressure to get a new camera before a shoot the next week. BHs flexibility and customer service really saved my job. Im a low light photographer, and Ive already noticed a huge difference in lighting sensitivity and reduction of noise. The file sizes are considerably larger as well. Cant wait to see how prints from these files turn out.

Upgrading from the 5D Mark III, I wasnt entirely sure that Id see major differences when I purchased the 5D Mark IV. Boy, was I wrong. The first big difference I saw was the amount of megapixels, which made my portraits really stand out. The second big difference was in the shutter of the Mark IV. While shooting any type of event, a photographer will try to be silent and not noticeable, but that was difficult with the Mark III even with the silent shutter turned on. The Mark IV has had a great improvement with its silent shutter feature. When showing my clients their images, the ability to zoom in and show detail right from the screen is something I never knew I needed. Touch screen allows you to quickly zoom in on details, and make sure that what youre shooting is sharp. To summarize, if youre able to upgrade to the Mark IV, I would do it immediately so that you can be the next person to recommend this camera to any Canon user.

First off I docked one star because theyre not using the latest CF and SD technologies. For a camera in this market segment, at this price, this is, IMHO, and inexcusable omission. Not sure what the technical reason is for this, but its not like the competition arent using them. Ive been shooting on a 6D which I bought shortly after it came out must be almost 4 years now. Decided that, despite the gaffe with the storage technologies, there was enough in this camera to make it worth looking at. Ive loved the versatility and quality I was getting from the full frame sensor in the 6D, and wouldnt consider anything less than full frame again, and Ive invested a TON of money in decent Canon glass, and so this seemed to be a good choice, on paper. Coming from the 6D, many of the controls and menu options were familiar. It took a few days of general messing around to start getting the hang of the additional controls and options I now had. Oh, and the ISO selection button on top of the camera is in a different position. The first thing that struck me was how much more solid the shutter sound was in this camera, and how much better weighted and balanced it was, in comparison to the 6D Once I started taking pictures in earnest, I was blown away. Compared to the 6D, this thing produces incredible pictures. Colors look closer to reality colors are appropriately warmer and more accurate. The dynamic range that this machine can cope with are astounding, as I discovered on an outing to take photographs along the nearby coastline. Low light capability is also an order of magnitude better than the 6D. This is a very expensive camera, but oh so very worth it. Highly recommended

I have now been shooting with this camera for about 3 months and it has exceeded my expectations. I am definitely an amateur and use this to primary shoot landscapes, nature, and family pictures. The autofocus has been amazing. It has tracked subjects in very low light and been spot on and tack sharp on them. It rarely misses focus even in the most difficult of situations. The high ISO is great. I have shot up to ISO 10,000 in low light and had them be acceptable with minor clean up. The higher megapixel is nice and allows you to crop more in post processing. The files are not too large to make editting a problem though. The auto white balance is usually correct, or close enough to only make minor adjustments in post processing. The addition of the touch screen is very nice when scrolling through menus or using the live view to shoot. I dont use the live view, but it makes it very easy to hand the camera to someone else, and they can take pictures with almost no instruction. No more, look for the little box and itll light up red when in focus. Overall this is an excellent camera and well worth the money.

I have been using this camera for a little over 2 weeks. The camera takes amazing photos. My previous gear has been a couple of 5D Mark 3s and before that Mark twos. I dont use the camera for video work although it sounds like the 4K video is nice. I am a portrait and wedding photographer.Pros this camera does a great job focusing in low light and the expanded ISO makes the photos look great even at ISO 6400 which I would rarely use on the Mark 3. The touchscreen on the back of the camera is fun but I dont know that its necessary. That could just be the fact that I am a little more old school and dont really use the touch feature. The clarity of the LCD screen looks amazing.ConsI initially tried using the camera with an older 32gb memory card and the camera will not operate and gives me an error code. Apparently the write speed is not quick enough to handle the substantial file sizes. The battery life seems to be a lot less than the life on the Mark 3. Used the battery grip with an additional battery in my Mark 3 camera bodies. I can shoot for two weddings on one pair of batteries. With the Mark 4 The One battery lasts me about halfway through the wedding day. I went to buy a battery grip and the cost is substantially more than the cost of a battery grip for the Mark 3. A mark 3 grip runs about now and the cost of the new battery grip is about To buy or not to buyI bought this camera because one of my previous cameras went kaput. I needed a replacement ASAP. Instead of buying an older model I decided to get one of the Mark 4s. I was planning on upgrading to the new cameras next year but this made my transition a little sooner than expected. The quality of focus and images at low light makes this camera worth the purchase for me. If youre not shooting in that type of situation I think the Mark 3 does a fantastic job and can save you substantial amounts of cash. As I stated before if you are a video professional it may be good for you but I have no experience at this point using the video on the mark for. I hope this review helps.

There are two things Canon cant be beaten on. The range of unbeatable quality L lenses and their colour science. No competitor produces images with level of richness that a Canon DSLRs produce out of the camera. Some experts either forget or dont recognise that. Sorry Nikon, Sony fans. The 5D mkiv is no exception and as as one of Canons premium cameras it produces beautiful photos. If you know Canon cameras the mkiv is not a difficult camera to learn but if your menu and photo experience is limited to smart phones this camera will take time and effort to study and learn to master. Menu items are no intuitive and the features are spread all over a vast interface. The reason I would not rate the mkiv as good value for money is not the camera designers fault. It is a great stills camera but the company expects a hugely inflated price for all of its products and this one is no exception. If value for quality is what you are looking for spend the money on the expensive L lenses as they are more important than the camera body ehen it comes to quality. So is it a good camera You bet your aperture it is but…….if you want to make more than the occasional video look elsewhere. Canon has chosen, and it is a conscious decision, to equip the mkiv with video file sizes better suited to Pentagon super computers than the likes of we PC or Mac uses. Dont get me wrong the video quality is supreme but the codec is not suitable for public consumption. So if you are making video look to Panasonic or Sony but if you want to win photographer of the year the Canon 5D mkiv combined with a canon L lens will do you no wrong.

It really is a good camera. The 5D series is wellknown as all rounders. The auto white balance is very good, files are easy to work with in that they need less adjusting for white and black points in LR than ones from my 7D Mark II. Auto focus works well and has many many options and control points to manage it with. Camera operation is smooth, consistent and reliable. BUT It stinks that Canon does not include a popup flash at least for remote speed light control. I took a backlit shot today and had no way to add fill light. Why no tilt screen I took an over my head shot of a big crowd last week and had to guess at the framing. GPS comes on MUCH quicker in this than on my 7D MII. Build quality is high. DXO Optics rates its sensor score within 1 or 2 points of D810 and D750. This is a much better quality than the other less expensive Canon full frame models. I like this one a lot better than 7D MII, except for no popup flash. Noise on this is MUCH better than my 7D MII. I did a night shoot 2 weeks ago. Wellexposed images at ISO12,800 do no need noise reduction in post in my opinion. Cannot say the same about ISO 12,800 for my other less expensive Canon bodies. Face detection is there in LiveView but not through the viewfinder. Wish it had face detection and even eye detection automatic focus seeking through the optical viewfinder. Some DSLR brands do that with an advanced metering sensor for the higherend models that does not depend on live view. Burst shooting is 7 FPS on 5D M IV, 10 FPS on7D M II and 5 FPS on its direct competitor. So if you shoot dance or sports that may matter. Canon does a great job of customer service and support, especially premium support for Canon Professional Services. All in all, its good and solid but its not magic. Someone who is coming into the game without a lot of sunk costs in lenses and accessories should take a hard look at the other major brand and may very well get this one. The bottom line is you still have to have the skill regardless of equipment specs and features.

Been using a 70D since 2013 and love it but this 5D Mark IV is better than I expected. I only use L series lenses so once I hooked them up to this baby, it was like I had new lenses all over again. Great camera body heavier and larger than the 70D but the full frame sensor is a different ball game altogether. Getting the full 24mm wide angle on my 2470 L II has been a great help to my landscape shots I no longer need to shoot panoramas as much and the resolution is stunning.

I upgraded from a 5D Mark 3 and could not be more pleased. It was a difficult decision because I did not want to get caught up in the need to constantly upgrade equipment, but there are subtle differences which now make me confident that I made the right choice. The physical set up of the new camera is nearly identical to the Mark 3, so the learning curve is very minimal, but there is a learning curve with some additional and much appreciated features. Having the joy stick on the back is awesome. The clanky shutter sound of the Mark 3 is gone and the Mark 4 sounds so much nicer and more solid in that area. Like sweet music to my ears every time I take a photo. At some point I guess, someone will say Ok, this is sufficient pixels for a camera. I assume we will get there eventually, but when you are taking photos and cropping, youll appreciate the extra pixel count of the Mark 4 over the Mark 3. It is subtle, but definitely better. The lens upgrade for the 24105 is much appreciated. It is a little bigger longer and fatter and the lock is great. I have not truly put the lens thorough the drills to fully comment, but if you are going to spend the money on the Mark 4, just go for it. I do feel that the new lens does do a better job in low light, but obviously difficult to quantify in that the camera does much better in low light as well.Together they are just a beautiful and a solid looking combo that work together like peanut butter and jelly. I am sitting here looking at the camera and lens to the side of my computer and they are just a beautiful to look at. The Mona Lisa of camera combinations

What can I say that hasnt been said beforeIm just a hobbiest that shoots birds, wildlife, landscapes and other nature related images. Ive been using a Canon 7D Mk II for a few years now, and upgraded to the 5D Mk IV for better low light capabilities. Was I ever surprised when I saw the increase in image quality of the images from the 5D compared to the 7D in good light, this was a huge upgrade for me I do miss the reach that I lose with the full frames sensor of the 5D versus the 7D, and also the 10 frames per second of the 7D. However, the image quality from the 5D is so much better that I want to shoot everything with the 5D now that I have it.I can use all the focus points when I have the 1.4 X teleconverter behind the 100400 mm L series lens at f8, either moving a single point to where I want it or using them all for birds in flight, although I seldom do that. I did test it to see if it worked, and it does. The shutter is quieter than my 7D, which means that Im less likely to spook a bird when Im close to it.The color reproduction of the 5D is much more accurate than the 7D.The 5D has two stops more dynamic range than the 7D, which helps in every image that I shoot it seems.Of course theres much less noise in images shot at higher ISO settings, Id say that Ive gained two stops in that respect, meaning higher shutter speeds in low light for better images, or I can keep the shutter slower for less noise.Since this is my first full frame camera, I cant comment on whether this would be a good upgrade from something like the 5D Mk III, but coming from Canons best crop sensor I have to say that Im blown away by how much better my images are already, and I havent had the time yet to live with the Mk IV to be able to get the best from it. I wish that I had made the upgrade sooner.

I got this to play with the dualpixel raw output. Thats a unique ability and the camera deserves 55 for having it, except there are some issues with how its implemented…. Thats actually the story overall. The 5D IV is a very finished product that could easily be mistaken for any of a half decades worth of Canon DSLRs which is a good thing, because it means it is very familiar and pretty. It also is a good thing that this has Canons best sensor to date, delivering 30MP images that have nearly as much DR dynamic range as my older Sony bodies. However, overall we are talking about a rather huge camera body with a clutter of controls that make sense mostly because theyre familiar. I also do a lot of manualfocus work and the OVF screen is bright, but completely unusable for judging focus. The rear LCD is very pretty, but again live view manual focus is a pain. BTW, I have three AF lenses for this two of them AF faster on my Sony A7II using the metabones adapter, the third is about the same on both bodies, but sometimes gets lost on the Sony its a Tamron 90mm f2.8 SP Di Macro, so theres quite a long focus range to seek through while the 5D IV almost always eventually finds focus. The hitormiss AF using some EF lenses on Sony bodies makes this the best DR sensor to deliver reliable AF with EF lenses… although Sony does better with some most EF lenses. In sum, this is a workhorse camera with huge potential, but I think only the Canon faithful will love it as it is. Magic Lantern is working on porting to it as I write this, and I think that will be the real game changer the ML additions should qualitatively improve this camera, also making it the best reprogrammable consumer camera ever made. It really depends on what lenses you have as to this or an A7RII being the better way to use your AF EF lenses….

Wavered on buying the 5Ds or this model, and now I am glad I went with the Mark IV. MegaPixel count isnt quite as important to me as the CLog upgrade and all other things being pretty equal, I went with this. I usually buy whatever Canon is offering as their newer 5D line but waited through the mark III, so this was really quite a step up from the Mark II. Image quality is noticeably better, and the newer function controls are very handy, as is the improved focal point matrix. I dont know about the touch screen yet, though….seems kinda gimmicky and I havent had much trust in it to try during video taping aint no way that wouldnt shake the camera, so how is that useful for racking focus Otherwise it is not needed for the menus and such….I am too used to using the joystick to navigate the menus. Bottom line, though, is that the image quality is king here…and I was pleasantly surprised to actually see a difference I am enjoying the slight step up in MP count as well….although 4K video has me scrambling for cards and hard drives…..128 GB cards are just not enough for field work in 4K CLog. yikes I know full well that Canon will roll out a new , improved camera soon, but I will gladly stay with this one for a while to come.

Canon makes excellent cameras and once again it has distinguished itself by setting the new standard for the best, all round, do it all Full Frame Camera in the EOS 5D Mark IV.For me a DSLR is always for photography first and for shooting video a distant second. The Mark IV strikes the right balance between image quality, resolution and frame rate for my needs. I shoot a lot of landscapes, sport and portraiture. The body of a 5D has been honed over generations, the controls are excellent, better than any other Canon Ive tried and I like the layout better than that of the 1D Bodies. The buttons and dials are very crisp, the touchscreen and that new auto focus selection button are killer. Coming from older Canon DSLRs the myriad of options and new features can often be a little overwhelming. There are multiple ways of accomplishing the the same interaction and therefore the learning curve with the 5D Mark IV is mainly about discovering whats important to the way you shoot. For me the two best new features are the GPS and Capacitive touchscreen. These are indispensable to me, because of their ease of use and the time they save me. I use the GPS to tag the location of each photo I take. Then when I transfer them from the camera to my iPhone, iPad, iMac etc the location and street names are automatically assigned to them in software. Canon has done a really fantastic job on the touchscreen. Its glassy smooth, the colours are rich, vibrant and accurate while the resolution is beyond what the eye can perceive.I highly recommend going for a Compact Flash card as the camera feels like it was designed to work with one rather than an SD card.

This really is a fantastic camera all around. It is built like a tank, particularly with the added battery grip. It is fast and a very snappy autfocus system is probably the best you can get overall, apart from the twice as expensive 1DX Mark II. However, it is the overall image quality that is by far the best. Colors are accurate without being flat, and as a photojournalism student who still has to make prints, the quality is spectacular since that becomes the test as images degrade in the printing process and often look much better on a screen than when they are printed. 30 megapixels is the sweet spot, large enough for gallery style prints, w ithout amount of grain that you start to get at 40 or 45 megapixels, Im often sizing down to only 3000 pixels at the long edge because Im making 10 inch prints on standard photo paper and start to see how sharp the photos when sizing down. It takes both great jpegs and raw files that are quite easy to edit. If youre a professional photographer this probably the one you want. As for video, I dont use 4k but at full 1080, the quality of the video in terms of color and sharpness far exceeds any other dslr or mirrorless by a long shot.

This is my main lens for travel photography and landscape. I also carry an ultrawide and a 70200mm at all times. I owned the Series I version of this lens 2009. Uncorrected, both the Series I and this Series II version are a little soft out in the corners, particularly at the wide end. Despite that, Ive gotten excellent results. These lenses started me using DxOs Optics Pro RAW conversion program in 2009. I was about ready to send the lens back to Canon for adjustment when I tried DxO to see if it would fix my issue. It did. There was a huge reduction in Chromatic Aberration and softness in the corners, when applying DxOs optical corrections in RAW conversion. Adobe has since added digital lens correction to its Lightroom software and Canon added it to its Digital Photo Professional software. My review assume use of some sort of digital lens optimization in RAW conversion. If you do so, you should be able to print in very large sizes when using bodies that can produce the large files needed. I do a lot of night, street photography when I travel, so the two additional stops of Image Stabilization is very welcome. The new lens cap and lens shade are minor, but positive upgrades for me. This lens gets the job done in a very wide variety of situations. I cant imagine not having one.

I really enjoyed using the camera for bird photography. The high MP is great for cropping and the camera has good sharpness. I paired this camera body with the Canon 100400mm lens which is a good fit for taking bird photos. I recommend the camera overall, but I think you could probably find a more suitable fit for the 100400mm lens. Ive heard the Canon 7D Mark II is a good option because of the crop sensor body, giving you that extra reach. The one thing that I really do love about the Canon 5D Mark IV is the high MP count and I havent found a comparable camera in the canon lineup for the price, that is.

The reviews were great, and when I went out one morning to take photos of lupines, I talked to 3 photographers there. They all had 5D IVs, and they all loved it. So I ordered one the next morning. The learning curve from the 6D was negligible, the only temporary problem being figuring out one of the AF menu settings. Ive only had the camera for a few days now, but Immediate advantages I see over the 6D include better image quality, larger image size 6720 x 4480 pixels allowing for more cropping potential, more AF points, touch screen, and more intuitive button layout. I like its small separate remote port, as opposed to the 6D where it shares a larger port area. The batteries seem to deplete significantly faster than with the 6D I dont use GPS. I thought maybe it was because I was using the auto brightness default setting for the LCD, so changed that to manual. That didnt work well for me on auto anyway, as it seemed not bright enough for daytime shots and too bright for night shots. I had a couple of software problems because the 5D Mark IV uses a new RAW format. I had been using Lightroom 5.7 and had to upgrade that to 6.0 for RAW support. I had been wanting to do that anyway for the LR improvements, such as panorama support. I also had been using DeepSkyStacker for Milky Way photos, and that does not directly support the 5D Mark IV RAW files. Not an issue with the 5D, but I never shoot video, so have always wished that Canon supported cameras that did just photos, as I assume those could then be offered at a lower price. Im sure some people shoot just video. Why not offer 3 lines e.g. photo only, video only, or both. Ive attached my first photo small size taken with the 5D Mark IV and the Canon 2470 f2.8L II, my goto lens for landscape photography. Love the camera. Highly recommend.

Im no expert, but I really like this camera. Ive got to use it a couple times. Once shooting pictures down on the field at a football game, while the other was while out hiking for about 5 miles. In both situations, I found this camera to take fantastic pictures. The only drawback comes from the guy holding the camera. We all know its expensive, but this one should last me for a long time.

Blown away by image quality I bought this camera for its video capabilities, primarily servo auto focus while shooting video. I was happy with the image quality from my 5d mkiii and I didnt expect much of a noticeable difference in visual quality, I just wanted a better video auto focusing system. But, holy cow, this cameras sensor is much sharper, more clear and has incredible colors that Ive never received with the mkiii. The improvements in quality not only look amazing but make editing faster and easier. And, the video auto focus system is superb, it is all that the raving reviews say it is. However, for the best and smoothest results youll want to buy a canon stm lens. I bought the 24105 stm lens and its great, its only . Though the mkiii is a wonderful camera, if you want to shoot video, get the mkiv. If you just shoot photos, I guess it depends on your budget. The mkiii is pretty amazing, but if you have the cash, the mkiv is absolutely worth every penny For low light you probably get one stop more with usable quality. As far as the 4K video, it looks beautiful but has a large crop factor and also takes up massive amounts of storage with its mJPEG format, like ridiculous amounts of space, crazy space. Youll fill your cards and hard drives quickly if you shoot much 4K. One nice video feature is HDR video, works great for bringing in highlights that would otherwise be blown. Overall, an awesome camera that could benefit from just a couple minor tweaks, but nothing that is a deal breaker for me. Buy one, youll love it

This is my second additional 5D Mark IV camera body. I recently purchased a Tamron 150600 lens and was using the lens on a Canon 5D mark II. The focus was always off and not sharp. I used my first Canon 5D mark IV and the focus was sharp and correct the first time. I plan to carry both Canon 5D Mark IV cameras so I do not have to change out lens when taking landscape and wildlife photos.

Top 1DX2 AF system. More push to shadows for my wedding photography. Much less mirror blackout and new shutter design makes each snap feel so tight and crisp Ive shot a wedding the day after I got this 090916 and senior pics the next day. The photos are so clean and clear, like really clear. I have a wedding video shoot on Oct 15th Ill be shooting it 1080p and just bought a 128GB CF card the reason Im on the site right now. I will use my glide cam and 1740mm lens for a lot of my shots. The 1740mm is great, especially for weight with the glide cam. I used to have a big shoulder rig and follow focus, but after videoing with my canon 70d with dual pixel AF, all of that focus support went to some guy in FL who bought it from me via online auction. Now I have better quality, and face detection AF that works great It doesnt need to be better than what you get on the 70D, but it is, which makes it even better More on DPAF Dual pixel AF I only used my awesome Sigma 50mm F1.4 ART lens on my Canon 70D for its ability to focus it perfectly via liveview. Through the eye piece was way too inconsistent. Now I get to use the sigma on this full frame 5D4 and the results so far are stunning yes I used the sigma dock to get it perfect, but that doesnt fix inconsistent focusing. But Live view shooting does, and DPAF makes it very fast and 100 always always always perfectly in focus. I also highly recommend pairing this with the Canon 35mm F1.4 II for the most amazing photos youve ever seenones which will set you work apart. That is…if 35mm suits what youre trying to capture, groups, full body portraits, low light, etc. Cons 2 Battery life and slower SD card type, I hope they fix this via firmware upgrade. If I could email you photos, youd buy this camera today.

I bought this mostly for the 4k video and time lapse for our outdoor videos. I own a 7D Mark ii with the 1124 f4L, 2470 f2.8L, 50 f1.2L, 70200 f2.8L with 2X doubler along with a STS 2060x 80mm Swarovski spotting scope, and can honestly say with out a shadow of doubt this camera is worth every penny. Yes the 4k files sizes are huge, but the colors are absolutely amazing, and the quality is almost better than real life, honestly. Yes you will need an amazing computer just to watch the raw video at full render, but it is amazing I have a intel 20 core, 64GB ram, 1070 video card and can only watch at half resolution with no hicups, but the next investment is the dual video card 1080 setup that can keep up with those bit rates. You will need to use spotting scope at a power over 25x to avoid vignetting at 4k, and pictures1080p will always have vignetting. The pictures are flat out amazing. I almost bought the 1DX ii, but since the batteries and SDCF cards would work from my 7D this was the more sensible route. This camera is everything I wanted in a camera and truly is amazing. I have had 0 issues with it, but did take an hour just to set the camera up like i wanted it. It does not take as many pictures before buffering as the 7D can, but will still take around 20 RawJPEG before it starts really seeing the buffer. I use San disk Extreme Pro 128GB for CFSD and will do the 4k video with both no problems, just keep in mind the CF is almost 2x faster downloading the enormous amount of data to the computer. 128GB is perfect card size for 4k video and 1 battery life. Yes it is around 30 mins of 4k video, but now i am way selective of what I video which is a good thing now. The low light is amazing being a full frame versus my 7D ii. Now if I never used this camera, I would say the 7D ii is awesome, but this camera blows the 7D ii out of the water no doubt. Way to go canon. As more of video grapher, I want all the raw data and really manipulate the colors.

Just as a disclaimer, I am not a professional photographer, but I make my living shooting videos. Body fit and finish is fantastic, similar dimensions to the 5D3, but a bit lighter. Shutter sounds great, full frame images are wonderful, unreadable raw for the present time. Those features are to be expected. Lets go into the video side of things. Its lacking a EVF. After shooting on a A7S2 for the past few months, working with an EVF to both review footage in bright light or to stabilize the camera while shooting hand held, an EVF is so essential. Next, the 1.7x crop for 4K just kills me. To get a 35mm equivalent, I need to get a 20mm or the 24L. Need to buy new glass. Also, the wider angle lenses needed create image characteristics that im not a fan of. Finally, the file format and codec in 4K is just a huge consumer of space. I filled a 32gb SD card with just 15min of 4K footage. In review of the files, the images and footage doesnt seem to have the magic Canon colors that I experienced with the 5D3 or the 5D2 but im sure that can be corrected in post. Guess im just gonna need to wait for the 4K version of the C100. Probably a winner for photographers, but I was hoping for a revolutionary game changer for video, and its not a winner for me.

The 5D series has never been about being the most of anything. Its never been the fastest or highestresolution, nor the prettiest looking. Instead, the 5D has always been the Goldilocks camera just enough of everything you need to make great images, all beautifully integrated into a userfriendly camera. Having used the 5D series since the original 5D, I had high hopes for the newest iteration. So how does it fare First, the positives a gorgeous LCD with crystallike clarity and excellent touchscreen ability a brighter viewfinder that can be customized to contain more information lighter weight much improved dynamic range in the shadows cleaner colors in higher ISOs snappier autofocus ideal resolution I think 30 megapixels is a great compromise between resolution and file size builtin timelapse functionality much crisper looking 1080 video footage than the Mark III, and beautiful 4K footage. Also, the ability to easily pull stills from this 4K footage. The dualpixel autofocus is also stunning, and totally changes the way you shoot videos. Especially when shooting wide open with a fast lens, its incredibly easy to keep things in focus. Now, what about the negatives Im not finding anything truly negative about this camera per se, only things that could have been better the 4K video files are huge although you can transcode them down to a quarter of their original size the dynamic range has been improved in the shadows, but the recovery of blownout highlights appears to be similar to the Mark III which isnt bad in this category at all and the higher ISOs are equally as grainy as those on the Mark III, although as mentioned, the color rendition has been improved the lack of an articulating screen is a little disappointing, although when you consider the amount of use and abuse a workhorse like the 5D needs to be able to withstand, perhaps its for the best. There are, of course, a host of important video features that are absent from this camera focus peaking, zebra stripes, a flat log profile, etc. But frankly, the 5D has never been a true hybrid camera its always been a great stills camera that can also, with a few workarounds, produce great video too. In conclusion, the many updates make this camera a joy to use. Also, like the earlier 5D cameras, it feels fantastic in the hand, with lots of subtle refinements that make it the most ergonomically satisfying 5D yet. Compared to the earlier 5D cameras, it almost seems to have a brain, and you constantly feel that its helping you to make images.

Okay, so you see the specs and you can find countless Youtube videos comparing image quality and all that, so Ill try to avoid superfluous information.Very first thing I noticed is that this is a beefy camera, it definitely has some weight to it though I also have a battery grip on mine. For some people this might be a big negative, but personally I love the way it feels. Its purely psychological, I know, but to me it is very satisfying to hold, much like writing with a well weighted pen. And it just feels like I could throw it out of a moving car, pick it up, and keep shooting. A friend of mine recently bought an A7III, and when comparing their size it is almost comical. Looking at them it is hard to believe they do the same thing. Its like seeing Shaq with Kevin Hart together.Next thing I noticed was the sound and feel of the shutter. This is another purely preferential observation, but this is the 8th camera Ive owned, and it has by far my favorite and most satisfying shutter sound. A lot of you wont care, it doesnt affect the quality of the image in the slightest, but for me its just a small thing that makes the camera that much more enjoyable to use.If you are used to the canon ecosystem the menu and buttons present a few new things, but overall it is very intuitive and you will feel right at home.I wasnt initially very excited to buy a new camera, it was simply a necessary business purchase, but unexpectedly I kind of feel like a kid with a new toy again. Its just enjoyable to use and feels like a reliable tool in my hands.

I got this camera for mainly stills and to be an excellent B Cam to my C100mkii, but after using it a couple times for video…Im impressed and Im preferring the quality of it over my C100mkii I do wish they gave the option for zebras and peaking on it, but I understand why theyre not doing it and thats because it is a stills camera first and foremost. The stills out of this camera are incredible, the autofocus is fast both in stills and in video. Seriously, the DPAF dual pixel autofocus, is the best AF hands down. I have been using it quite a lot for video since there really isnt peaking available. Aside from that the latitude this camera has for recovering shadows and highlights for stills is also very impressive. Theyve got the stills portion down4K on this camera is niiiiiiice The codec is ridiculously huge, and yes the 4K crops in on the image 1.7x, but it is still incredibly sharp. For me, I deliver everything in 1080p so its not a big deal, but one thing to note is when using the 4K the rolling shutter on this camera is quite horrendous. Have a lens with IS, a gimbal for those buttery smooth shots, or a tripod.I got the package with the battery grip so I really dont have to worry about battery life. Its really nice I like to think of it as a little brother to the 1DXmkii.Great camera and I cant recommend it enough. If youre a stills person stick with the normal one, but if you do both stills and video then Id recommend the clog version Gives you better dynamic range in video and more room to play around with color in post, not a lot, but some

after 2 months of research I finally decided on this camera. I had the Canon Rebel T1I for 15 years and loved it I actually wore the camera out I take a lot of pictures in dusty dirty environments and I do lots of big events and weddings and our county fair every year and our fire company events with that camera so it didnt owe me anything. if I could guess I have taken well over a million pictures whit it. I know the last few years I had it I was maxing out what I could do with it. so when it came time for a new one I chose the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV I love the features like the built in WiFi and the 7FPS and the 30.4 megapixels. I paired the camera with a 24 105 EF Zoom Lens and a battery grip. love the touch screen especially when taking pictures of subjects I like that I can tap on the LCD screen on the subject and take the picture and my subject it clear and everything else is blurred. there are so many other great features. Over all this is a amazing camera upgrade from what I had. I am defiantly looking at some more lens for this camera and a highspeed sync flash. if anyone has any recommendations on a highspeed sync flash that would complement this camera please let me know.

Even after just a few days of shooting not too many days with good light at this time of a year I can tell the difference. It confirms that the decision to upgrade my camera was the right one. I am still waiting to see how the 5D MkIV performs when shooting birds in flight, but as far as I can tell the accuracy and speed of focusing are stunning. The photographs are cracking sharp. Looking forward to swifts and swallows coming back to us and some sunny days with them.

Here is a link to my full complaint with 10 pictures attached. httpscommunity.qvc.comt5CustomerCareQVCSentUsedDeviceWhenIOrderedABrandNewCameratdp5609985Just opened my order about 15 minutes ago only to be extremely disappointed. I ordered a Canon 5D Mark IV camera on 6 easy payments for a total of a little over 4,500 with expedited 2 day shipping. When I opened the box and looked at the device there were scratches and nicks on all 4 bottom corners, dustdirt all in the cracks of the device, the camera strap mounts were discolored and scratched, the flash mount is scratched and discolored, the internal lens mechanism had a clear looking film on it as if some type of liquid had gotten inside of it, and to top it all of there was DRY FOOD on the bottom of the camera by the serial number I understand some items are not handled by QVC and they hire third parties but this is horrible.. My grandad was always a huge fan of QVC when he bought coins and my Mother used QVC all the time when I grew up so I honestly never thought something like this would happen. Im going through the process of returning the device and I obviously would like a brand new one but Im not even sure if the third party company is trustworthy or even has these cameras brand new. Id like to hope it was an honest mistake but we will see. The quality of this camera isnt even open box quality.. this is 100 used. Sand, dirt, scratches, water stain on the most important internal part of the camera… Not sure how the distributor had the courage to even send this to a customer.
