This is a brilliant ultra wide lens from Sigma. I was a little skeptical about purchasing a third party lens for my Lumix S5, but the Panasonic lenses are just too expensive for hobbycasual use. The online reviews have done this lens justice however. It has excellent build quality, produces lovely sharp images, and the button on the side is a useful addition when the Lumix S5 is a bit short on extra buttons to customise. It is pretty heavy and bulky at approx 1Kg, but its a price worth paying. Overall a super lens that I highly recommend for ultra wide perspectives.

This lens is small and easy to carry for a 1052.8 Macro. I like it because I often shoot straight downward to capture automotive fabrics with subtile and intricate patterns and color designs. I use it on a Sony A7RIV and it is the only AF Macro able to fully resolve that cameras 61 meg FF sensor. After doing my first job, this kit replaced a Medium Format kit Id used up until then. Its a keeper

Using this on my s1. I primarily shoot short films and dabble in photography with this lens. Well built, fantastic image, but suffers from a few issues that make me feel like sigma is phoning it in on their L mount releases. Currently, the manual focus has a habit of randomly ceasing to respond. Its intermittent, but nearly every time Im out shooting it happens at least once. The other issue, is that even though the s1 allows me to set the focus ring to linear, which should allow for repeatable focus pulls, the lens behavior doesnt seem to respond at all to this change. Hopefully these issues can both be solved with firmware. I contacted Sigma twice now. No response to the linear issue, in regards to the unresponsive focus ring they basically said Id have to send it into them, unfortunately right now they arent receiving shipments and I cant send it anyway since I have upcoming shoots and this is my only lens. If they solve these issues I would most likely give this lens five stars.

As sharp and wellbuilt as reviewers say it is. Typical recent Sigma quality, which is very high. And as a nod to EBAYsellers, far cheaper than some big name camera eretailers. For a Sigma lens, relatively compact their best lenses tend to be very largeheavy, but this one is manageable. Only downside is that this lens has been on the market for several years now, and no firmware update for Sony Emount. Thankfully, then lens seems to work wellfine on version 1.0

I own several Sigma Art, Sport and Contemporary lenses, so it wasnt a great leap for me to buy the Sigma 40mm f1.4 DG HSM Art Lens. Yes, its heavier than the Nikon AFS Nikkor 35mm f1.8 G ED lens that I used as a partial trade for this lens. But, I REALLY like a sharp lens, and while the Nikon was a nice lens, I wanted something better. And, even though Im 73 years old, I dont mind the heft of my Sigma lenses. I think too much is made out of lugging around an extra pound or so. Although, I did buy the Cotton Carrier CCS G3 Harness1, which I also love. The hardest decision for me was did I go for the Sigma 35mm f1.4 Art the Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art or the 40mm I already have the Sigma 1424mm 1.4 Art, the Sigma 24105mm f4 Art, the Sigma 50100mm f1.8 Art, the Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art, the Sigma 70200mm f2.8 Sport and the Sigma 100400mm f56.3 Contemporary, so my thinking was a combination of thinking that the 40mm would fill a hole that I wanted to fill, AND I knew that my fetish with sharp lenses would always make me long for the Sigma 40mm Art. Its not for everyone, but its a great lens and I love it.

Image quality is excellent and this is a very capable lens. EyeAF works extremely well and nails focus every time and the lens is sharp even down to f1.2. The color and contrast are great and the bokeh is smooth. The build also feels solid and I love aperture rings. It isnt perfect though. Unless you really know you will use f1.2 a lot, I wouldnt recommend something this big. Its almost as heavy as my old Nikon 80200 2.8 and is heaver than a 2470 2.8. Given how good Sonys 35 1.8 and the Voightlander 40 are, you really ought to consider if that heft is worth differences that generally will only be seen in pixel peeping at more normal apertures if then. If you want f 1.2 then go for it but otherwise think twice. In addition to the most obvious con, which is the giant size, the biggest issue this lens has is flare that makes it a worse landscape lens than my Voightlanders. The autofocus sometimes will also pulse in and out in a way that my other lenses dont do and struggle to lock onto focus in landscapes with fading light.

Not too much to say. If you really love photography as much as I do, Sigma is for me a 100 no brainer. I own several Sigma lenses NIKON mount Art, and Sport versions. To this day I have never had to use the sigma doc, to make any adjustments of any kind to any Sigma lenses that I own. I use Nikon full frame camera bodys and the images I receive from my Sigma lenses are simply outstanding. Thank you very much Sigma, as well as my friends at BH, excellent lens and service as always.

Despite the obvious size and weight issue, this lens is special it is rendering and sharpness. Fantastic for portraits, and even as a landscape lens if you dont mind the heft. Large size also makes for expensive filters. The tripod foot is great and when you take it off for hand held, Sigma provides a comfortable rubberized ring to slide over the notch left when the tripod foot is removed. The case that comes with the lens is top notch. Beautiful Bokeh as advertised and fast focusing too. Hard to fault it optically.

I couldnt wait til BH had this in stock so I had to get it from whoever did have it. I got their last copy. If you are someone who doesnt like a heavy lens and trust me, this lens is heavy, just move on. I dont understand some reviewers crying about the weight of the lens. Did they not read the specs before buying or renting the lens Anyways.. from using the lens on a few low light and outside portraits I am blow away. The sharpness is on par or better with any Canon mount medium telephotos out there except for maybe Otus 85mm I have never used that lens Milvus probably also outperforms this lens in terms of micro contrast and sharpness. But lets face it no one is buying this lens just for sharpness are they Who is this lens for A portrait shooter who wants great compression of 105mm A portrait shooter who wants mind blowing creamy bokeh for subject isolation. I see a little bit of cats eye round balls on the edges of the pictures but absolutely none in the middle. Also zero onion rings Having said that Ive read somewhere that this lens was made to compete with Zeiss in astro photography as well, but thats not really something I know very much about. Bottom line is this lens just delivers.. That large front element is forcing me to add lot more vignette in post than any other lens I own LOL If you dont mind the weight of the lens I am somebody who doesnt mind the weight as long as there is performance and build quality that justifies the weight you are going to love this lens period.

The Sigma 28mms build quality is on another level when compared to some of the earlier Art lenses. Everything from the internal and external weather sealing, newly designed lens hood, and the overall Global Vision design. From a resolution standpoint, this lens is incredible Auto focus for the most part is good on my Canon 5DS R. The lens did require some adjustments, and the auto focus can be quirky at times. I look forward to eliminating these issues with a Canon full frame mirrorless camera. Although an entirely different focal length, it compares well to Canons 35mm f1.4 ii. Overall, the Canon has the better focus performance DSLR and slightly better image quality due to the Blue Spectrum Optics. With that being said, the Sigma 28mm Art is a great lens with a very useful focal length. If at times 24mm seems a bit wide and 35mm isnt wide enough, and you want one of the very best, then Sigmas 28mm prime lens will complement your kit as it does for me.

I had been eyeing this lens for a while. I knew that when I moved to a full frame camera that I would need an epic lens to go along with it, and as someone who has spent years shooting on a manual 12mm, this Sigma is absolutely wonderful I love the dimension and options that a wide lens gives, and paired with my a7r IVa, it is absolutely perfect for my needs. I have used it on landscapes, and I have even tried it on close up shots of flowers and insects. It has excelled at everything Ive thrown at it thus far, and I couldnt be happier. It feels durable in your hand, and it dials in smoothly. Most importantly, it produces beautiful shots.
