The camera is a decent step up from 5D Mark III better autofocus, better low light performance and higher resolution.Tested Nikon D850 with Nikon 2470, 70200 2.8 lenses and Nikon despite of higher megapixel and impressive review it was rather a disappointing result when I used it in a wedding event. The skin tone is something Canon is the leader, the focus was hit and miss, the low light was the biggest underperformance since the higher MP captured more details it came with worse noise. Mind you I was shooting with a Canon 6D, now my back up. The 5D MK IV is a little heavier but the hand grip, size and feel are comfortable. I noticed the GPS drains the battery pretty quick so I turned it off and I dont use the WIFI, problem solved. When Adorama put the Mark IV on sale, it was a game changer for me. I purchased the body with free accessories. The salesman was professional, patient and polite. Got my camera after two days, and went to a horse farm.

You may need to get new SD cards, new computer, new software, new monitors and the list goes on again for any 4K camera. It crops the image in 4K which people complain about but many expensive video cameras crop as well RED to name one. OK Enough about video. This camera is meant for taking stellar stills. Why I didnt get the Sony A7RII or A9 1 That darn electronic viewfinder, A7RII slow to write to card which is not useable professionally, already owned several Canon lenses which yes you can use with the Sony. Actually looking at sidebyside comparison between the two cameras, there is very little noticeable difference in quality of the photos. Canon color is superior straight out of the camera which saves time for me and the 5D Mark IV allows previous Canon users to feel immediately at home. Additionally the build quality of these cameras is superior. I dropped my Mark II once on Castle stone in New England, camera remained almost completely unscathed aside from a scratch. What I love about the new 5D Mark IV compared to Mark II Its just a joy to use and produce content with. Makes me and my clients happy. Autofocus improvements are enormous. Using Live View, and touch screen to focus has been much more helpful than originally imagined. Face tracking is very very good. Lowlight capability is improved Pictures are that much sharper with modest increase in MP. Remember guys gals, if youre pictures aint sharp with this bad boy its probably not the camera, make sure youre using a fast shutter speed and fast lens if you dont have IS. WiFi GPS are actually very nice additions which I didnt really care about when I bought the camera. The WiFi tethering aside from being able to see photos quickly on my iPad no need for WiFi network can tether directly to smartphone and also allows me to setup a live viewing table for guests to view the photos of the night as theyre taken I finally stopped being stubborn and used the EOS Utility software which I never used on my Mark II. Features some good additions for the Mark IV such as GPS logging shows path explored as well as saving preset metadata for your photos etc. Now, while I would like every camera to have 50MP, amazing lowlight, 5000 focus points, etc. we have to remind ourselves that Canon does need to make a profit somewhere and at some point you gotta ask yourself how many MP and focus points do you really need. The 5D Mark II even though its almost 10 years old is still a phenomenal camera. Advertising at work. Cons Price but I will say that you can make back the money you spent with this thing if you are using it professionally. If you are not using it professionally and money is a big issue check out some more reasonable cameras where the quality is almost just as good. 6D Mark II should be coming out soon. 6D is a great camera while price is low. Even the Rebel SL1, t7i etc. are phenomenal cameras. If you have the money, are debating between Canon, Nikon, and Sony, and dont want to have to worry about being gentle with a 3K5K camera setup like with Sony, just buy this thing, its just a great camera.

I have owned a 7D for the past 67 years and still the quality of photos and ease of use. I simply thought it was time to upgrade. I have had the 5D Mark Iv package now for just two weeks. Comparing many photo providers, I believe that BH offered the best price, plus I have had great satisfaction with their products and service in the past. Even though the camera was purchased just after Christmas, delivery to Maine was in three days, very safely packed. I have not yet used the video mode, but photos thus far are excellent quality, sharp and with a very wide range of settings. I am an amateur photographer, shooting birds, wildlife, and outdoors sports, especially free style skiing. Could be happier with this purchase. Many items in the package have already been put to use. Would highly recommend to friend or family, or even to YOU Thanks

I really enjoyed using the camera for bird photography. The high MP is great for cropping and the camera has good sharpness. I paired this camera body with the Canon 100400mm lens which is a good fit for taking bird photos. I recommend the camera overall, but I think you could probably find a more suitable fit for the 100400mm lens. Ive heard the Canon 7D Mark II is a good option because of the crop sensor body, giving you that extra reach. The Canon EOS 5D Mark 4 may or may not have an electrical energy shielding issue as I will explain. Bought my Mark 4 from BH shortly before my second three month journey to France in 2017. I love the camera but it was affected by a problem that still worries me.Likewise I still love and use the older Mark 2 that I carried previously on a 2011 Paris journey. I had no major problems with either camera except the one I will describe.In 2017, I was using my Mark 4 to do tripod shots mostly all over the streets of Paris. I was hauling a lot of fast and heavy glass, i.e. about 6 or 7 good Canon lenses every day, doing mostly high resolution raw still shots and a small amount of video at FHD full high def1080p and lower resolutions. I rarely use 4k when traveling since video is not my primary application.Less than a week before my three month 2017 journey ended, I was on a train coming into Gar Est East Station from the Paris suburb of Le PerreuxsurMarne. I was doing scenic video of the trains slow approach into the large station in the last few minutes until it stopped at the platform, just as I had done before when approaching the same station. In the last few dozen meters of the ride, the train was at crawl speed.Within seconds before the train fully stopped, my video image began breaking up. There may have been another train operating on an adjacent platform, I dont recall.Thereafter many if not most video and still images from this Mark 4 were likewise broken up and worthless. The distorted images were shown in both realtime and on computer playback, so it was not an issue with the fast compact flash card or the camera display.Luckily this was near the end of my 3 month journey after I had shot countless thousands of great images. The camera was under warranty.When returning the camera for repair, I proposed to Canon my near certain theory that the cause of the damage had to be electromagnetic field EMF energy from the train station. I believe that these electric regional trains have electromagnetic regenerative braking systems. Hence, when the train stopped, it may have generated a lot of electrical energy that was not or could not be properly shielded from release at the trains, and was perhaps the camera was not properly shielded either. Additionally, an adjacent train may have been a source of damaging EMF energy.Considering that I had shot countless thousands of still images and much video without problem until the exact moment that this particular train stopped at Gar Est, I feel almost totally convinced that my train EMF theory is correct.Canon honorably repaired the camera under warranty at no charge with no comment on my EMF damage theory.On that basis and my inability to know if camera shielding was deficient, I cannot be sure that this is a problem unique to Canon or the 5D Mark 4. Nor do I know if electrical shielding incamera, can reliably prevent damage from high energy EMFproducing trains.This may be a rare problem since most users do not do video until the very last moment that an electrically powered train is stopped.It is commonly assumed that all cameras are well shielded against EMF. But Im not so sure that the shielding in any digital camera is adequate to prevent damage in all situations. I was unable to find much about the topic of EMF damage to cameras. I would suggest it needs more attention.Given that the problem may or may not be unique to the 5D Mark 4, I dont have enough evidence to pin down the blame. Thus, I would still give this camera 5 stars.

Late to the show, but cant resist the price. I have way too much Canon glass to make the leap to mirrorless. This will last me a few years while the mirrorless market matures. I am impressed with the focusing ability and the increase in resolution over my 6D. Also happy to add anther Flashpoint Speedlight to my small collection. Great combination.

My Canon 5D MK IV is a Llemon. The camera has excessive battery drain. After 50 photos and the battery drops to around 50 I use the same batteries on my 7D MK II and there was no issue at all 242 photos last week and the battery had 70 left I took the camera in as it is still under warranty. they kept it for a week and told me it was repaired. I took the camera out yesterday and it was the same thing 49 photos and the battery was drained to 62. They are now saying that all three of my lenses, SD, and Flash Cards, and three batteries need to be left off and tested even though they work fine on the 7D MII. I told them that was not possible so they said they will not replace the camera. Clearly they cant find the power problem so they are trying to blame the problem elsewhere. I dont know who can afford to replace all their batteries and lenses so the camera will work properly. Although Canon products are generally outstanding beware they will not back a defective product.

Recently purchased this camera and I absolutely love it Granted I replaced my 5D classic with this camera but none the less the quality of the photos it captures is great. The high iso capability is great for dark event rooms and I havent had any focusing issues in low light situations yet. The battery life is great and I can get through an entire reception on 1 battery and still have power to spare. This camera is also packed full of settings and features. Canon really went all out on this camera. If you are a canon user, you absolutely need to have this camera in your bag.

The high iso capability is great for dark event rooms and I havent had any focusing issues in low light situations yet. The battery life is great and I can get through an entire reception on 1 battery and still have power to spare. This camera is also packed full of settings and features. Canon really went all out on this camera. If you are a canon user, you absolutely need to have this camera in your bag.

Ergonomics much better, feels more secure inhand. Shutter sounds much more solid and quiet at same time. I know the Video guys were looking for a 5D with output of 4K to external drives. This is a stills first camera. Im guessing Canon will give us an EOS Mirrorless in the 5D size with all the options video folks want and I think we must realize that proper production 4K will need a dedicated body. That said, the Mark IV, gives you the abilty, for a short time, to capture really good 4K. I think this is there for pros who know 4K video of some crazy event will provide more Money on the marketplace, and Canon will let you profit from the plane crash

After also considering a 7D Mark II due to price, I decided to purchase the 5D Mark IV and I am so happy I did. This is an amazing camera Ive taken indoor photos in low light without a flash and I am really impressed with the quality of the photos. A handheld photo from 30 away at ISO8000 is so clear when zoomed in on the sheet music one can read the notes. Even at ISO12800 the photos are remarkably clean. The autofocus is fast and accurate. First let me specify that I bought this camera to take photos of my kids, to capture 4K home video and sometimes shoot short video pieces for the web. I am not a wedding photographer or someone who has to make a living with this camera day in and day out. The fullframe stills absolutely live up to the Canon reputation the quality is, as expected, fantastic. There have been many critiques on the internet about the 5D mkIVs 4K video file format however, it works in my specific case. As a professional editor, I already own the computer power and software to deal with the cameras unusually largefilesize motion Jpeg format, so for me thats not a big issue. Id say that if you have a good working knowledge of transcoding, and you are not on a tight deadline, this is nothing to be afraid of, and the visual quality is impressive. Of course, if you intend to shoot hours and hours of footage of sitdown interviews or weddings, you will need to invest in more drive space that you otherwise would with a camera that uses a more efficient video codec but for me, whatever Canon needed to do to not undercut their highend video camera sales is fair and the large file size is worth it to me to ensure that 4K would be a feature on this camera. Now, there are the usual DSLR issues with rolling shutter, but if you just watch one decent web tutorial about rolling shutter, you will be able to work around it. Of course, if your MAIN gig is shooting 4K video, handheld, of people running around at top speed or playing tennis, I would recommend a dedicated video camera, and not any of the existing DSLRs unless you are trying to be stealthy and look like a tourist. Overall the Canon 5D mkIV totally works for my needs which includes being stealthy and looking like a tourist. You cant really sneak a RED camera into Disneyland, after all.

As a magazine photographer, this camera seems to really bring home all I am looking for in a camera. First, I have been shooting with 8mp all the way up to 50mp. Back in the day, 8mp certainly worked, but Ive quickly realized that 20mp really helps in all categories for my work. The 36mp in my friends D810 was always a pipe dream, but that camera is really slow to work with by comparison. Canon has 50mp in the 5DSR and older sensor technology but it was, at least for me, a one trick pony. It too was slower to work with and the poor dynamic range recovery really never appealed enough for to open my wallet and buy a camera that couldnt fully replace my 5D Mark III. In a studio, the 5DS is a beast, but I dont have the luxury of that all the time. The Mark IV, on the other hand, shipped with 30mp. My first week with the camera back in September I shot a race and 6 magazine features and REALLY pushed the cameras performance. The sensor performance has been nothing short of phenomenal. Its able to really bring Canon into the modern era of noise, shadow recovery, and color depth all while providing that genuine Canon look thats both faithful and accurate to life….unlike the weird greens, blues, and reds seen from OTHER sensors. Yes, including RAW. I edit my second shooters Nikon files and images occasionally have a truly funky color palette. The WiFi was a feature loved on my 6D for real estate and this camera was finally able to replace it. It was recently discovered on a shoot just how useful WiFi was as I was shooting a magazine cover and downloaded test shots to my phone then sent high resolution files to the editor to review remotely on a computer to provide his input marvelous The speed is even FASTER than my 5D3. THIS is where the camera shines versus its competition. Nothing comes close to its speed to file size ratio. Use an A7RA7RII, D800810, and a 5DSR and the FIRST thing you notice at least I notice is how slow the cameras feels. The file sizes from these cameras are certainly large and helps explain why they seem to bog down in various shooting scenarios the Sonys are a total joke to shoot with rapidly, but the 5D Mark IV manages to find a sweet spot of performance where it still feels snappy, responsive, and dareIsaysporty even in high demand shooting. At a wedding, 30mp works very well. The 5DS scared the heck out of my hard drives should I use one at a wedding or event, but this really is a sweet spot. The AF performance is rather good. Coming from a 5D3, the low light AF is vastly improved. Coming from a 1DX Mark II, the AF feels a bit lethargic, but it also doesnt use a dedicated processor just for the autofocus like the 1DX series and 7D series so thats to be expected. But the module itself is plucked from the new 1D and it shows. In all but the most demanding situations, this system will track subjects reliably and work very well with fast lenses even in very dim light. The 5D3s autofocus was…good for its time, but simply didnt work in some light situations. I havent found that to be the case with the 5D4 in normal working situations like dim weddings and night racing. Is it all good No. You will always want more and while I dont notice much difference in performance from a Nikon D750, the D810 still crushes this sensor in dynamic range and color depth, but not necessarily color performance see above. Could they have delivered a better 4K Codec, a better SD card slotCFast, 8 or 9fps, a better all crosstype AF module Yes. But nobody else does or did at the time for this kind of money. I shoot commercial advertising work and have been using the 5d MKII and MKIII since both releases so this was a really exciting upgrade. I was hoping Canon would deliver on specs but knowing theyre conservative nature I was not expecting anything mind blowing. This camera may lack some of the bells and whistles that Sony or others have but as far as solid, beautiful, big images this camera is a huge leap from the MKIII. The autofocus improvement is huge. I like the MKIII system but this is so fast and so precise its amazing. I have only shot with it 2 times now as the Camera RAW for Lightroom was only recently released but the files I have gotten back are fantastic. Compared to the MarkIII theres more usable latitude, highlights recover very nicely and shadows lift great as well. If you became accustomed to a grading workflow with your MKIII files you will have a learning curve with these. I had a very definite preset that I could apply to 95 of my images as a starting point that I now have to relearn. Probably the biggest thing for me is the wifi. With the MKIII I was using USB 2 to tether and the buffers would always fill transferring RAW files, I would have to constantly restart lightroom and recently Lightroom and EOS Utility were fighting over the USB connections so I had to delete EOS Utility. However with the wifi now I can use my MacBook Pro as an FTP and transfer a 17MB medium jpg straight to the computer, then autoimport to Lightroom and we have a great file for clients to review as we shoot. The speed is similar to what I was getting with USB 2 transferring RAW files. This for me is huge. Once you get it setup it is actually pretty quick to reconnect and get up and running. Having a preplanned folder setup helps with the import as it is a bit of roundabout way but it works great for me. The battery life is severely impacted of course but Im still getting 23 hours of straight use per battery. This camera is 100 worth the upgrade.

The sensor is pumping out more megapixels, 4K video with great video autofocus, builtin timelapse, touchscreen, fast frame rates, still fantastic weather sealing, great body construction, perfect feel in the hand and the best menu settings in the camera world. Plus, I love that it takes the same batteries as the previous generation not same battery grip though.Those simple things to me make this still a great camera. Have you tried using the Sony menu functions I can pick up this camera and start shooting with it in the field right out of the box. No learning curve. No weird color profiles that limit functions randomly here and there. Just straight shooting.And speaking of color, the mkIV has great color science. The skin tones are great, but more importantly, the colors look so natural. Not a lot of postproduction color work with the Canons.My only complaints are the video features. Yeah, I would like to see 4K 60fps, 1080 continues at 120fps, fullframe 4K and not the clunky MJPEG codec. But the CLog profile is so great to work with, the autofocus is fantastic and the ease and usability of this camera in video makes my life so easy while out shooting.So for me, its still the best pick out there. The other mirrorless cameras out there getting the hype are great, but theyre still 1 or 2 generations away for me to replace the DSLR.

The EOS5D Mark IV is not a specialized camera, it is a Swiss army knife, a jack of all trades and master of some but not all. Still uses the obsolete CF interface as opposed to CFAST, the SD interfaceis slow and limits the cameras performance. Battery grip only uses one battery at a time power from two batteries cannot be combined to speed up AF drive Focusing screen is fixed. VF illumination is only black, unlike EOS1D X Mark II which is red making it much easier to see the focus points. DualPixel RAW although in its current form it has very limited use for avian photography.

Battery grip only uses one battery at a time power from two batteries cannot be combined to speed up AF drive Focusing screen is fixed. VF illumination is only black, unlike EOS1D X Mark II which is red making it much easier to see the focus points. DualPixel RAW although in its current form it has very limited use for avian photography.

I upgrade from my 40D after my wife signed me up for a birdwatching course. Its like night and day. Ive been immersing myself in manuals and YouTube videos learning how to use as many features of this camera as I can and I am very impressed with how easy it is to use and the quality of the pictures I am getting. Its not fair to compare this with the 40D, but its all I have to go on. Owning a 40D for so long meant that the learning curve was not too steep so if you own another Canon you can probably make the leap to this model without much issue that is if I am not the last person to buy a 5D. In the past, I was a Basic Mode shooter, but the 5D doesnt not have those. It has an automatic mode, but not portrait, landscape, etc. This forces you to learn more about how to use a camera properly. It was daunting at first, but after a couple of weeks, I feel comfortable using all the features.Its a dated camera now so there are other options. For my needs, I dont feel like I am missing out by not getting a newer model or a mirrorless camera. I feel like Ive bought a very good camera at a good price because of its age, but thats OK for me because I dont need cutting edge. Loving this camera.

The WIFI connectivity enables me to use my iPhone as a live viewfinder AND a shutter release remote.I put this to the test in my shower stall for an image I had wanted to make for a while, but couldnt because the composition I had in mind would put my camera only a couple inches from the back wall, making it impossible for me to see the viewfinder or live view monitor. Within a few days after receiving my Mark IV I had the image I wanted.I am very pleased with the image quality, and was pleasantly surprised by the exposure latitude I had in postproduction. This interior shot was made in front of an open window with objects silhouetted against it. I had expected to have to decide whether to sacrifice shadow or highlight details as a result. However, when I looked at the histogram, it was all there. Pulling it into in Photoshop, I can see detail across the entire tonal range. I was able to boost clarity and contrast a little without clipping shadows or highlights. I believe this exceeds the dynamic range I had with the Mark III.In short, I was a happy Mark III user for five years, and I would have been happy to keep shooting with my Mark III. I do not regret upgrading to the Mark IV, and am very pleased with the added features, resolution, and dynamic range I now have in the Mark IV.Johnny Kerr

I stepped up to this camera from the 7d for my real estate photo and video business. Let me start by saying that I love this camera. Just as the 7d, it is well built and is very reliable. The upgrade in image quality is quite noticeable and the video function is much more robust. However, I gave this camera 4 stars would have preferred 4.5 stars instead of 5, not for reliability, but for features I think should have been no brainers to include of course, this is very subjective and a few technical issues specific to the way I take photos. Here are the reasons No flip screen Come on Canon, you have such wonderful flip screens on other DSLRS, why not here I have needed one soooo many times at uncomfortable elevations or in tight areas. Massive 4k video codec. I understand the advantages of the codec included, but it would have been nice to include a lighter 4k coded… not every application needs all of that quality. No flash shooting from the hot shoe when taking bracketed shots… Really I know this is common, but for a camera of this ability this function should be included. I have a work around using a PC sync cord, which allows me to use flash on bracketed shots. Maybe Canon could change this in a firmware update… I could only hope. Some AWB white balance issues when shooting interiors with mixed lighting. Overly warm images. Maybe this is something I am doing wrong, but my 7d nailed it 99 of the time. This is something that I have created a work around for, so not a big issue for me. Of course, shooting raw and correcting in post works just fine too. Despite these issues, I love the feel and performance of the camera and can whole heartedly recommend this camera to others.

I moved up to a fullframe DSLR with the Canon 5D Mark III, bought right after it became available in March 2012. Very pleased with the Mark III, I didnt think I was in the market for a new camera until I saw the Mark IV announcement, watched the BHhosted panel discussion of it soon after, and checked whatever reviews and videos I could find. Preordering the Mark IV from BH became an easy decision. Having used it for a month now, paired with a halfdozen Canon Lseries lenses 3 zoom and 3 prime 2 with a 1.4x III extender I am very pleased with the results. The jump from 22.3 to 30.4 megapixels provides a nice boost to resolution and allows severe crops when caught with too short a lens for a subject that presented itself. Autofocus is fast and accurate. Using continuous shooting, capturing RAW images of my granddaughter playing tennis, delivered about 7 frames per second, all perfectly sharp and clear. But all this was expected. Some features I hadnt thought of wanting are turning out to be among my favorites. One is the touchscreen interface completely redundant, it stays in the background if traditional controls are used, yet is instantly available when touch control is desired. Another great feature is wireless connectivity. I particularly like being able to use my iPhone with Canon Connect app to shoot in live view, seeing on the phone what the camera sees, and controlling the camera from the phone very nice for low camera angles. Although not a huge matter, having builtin GPS is much more convenient than the accessory GPS receiver I used with the Mark III. Im delighted with the 5D Mark IV.

I primarily take personal photos but do volunteer as a photographer for charity events mostly cycling as well as some galas, take pictures of rocket launches, have assisted on one wedding, and have used macro photography as a quality inspection tool in the production of high precision electrical cable components. My wife and I have a new baby and twice this year I have been tempted to go with a Sony a7R ii. We had a 5D mk ii but bought a Canon M3 to take home videos. The touch screen capabilities for video were fantastic, but the photos were obviously not on par with a full frame camera. I preordered the 5d mk iv because it was reported it would improve on dynamic range and believably would focus better than the 5d mk ii. It does all of this and I am happy that it focuses on hard, straight lines very well in low light and can also find my infant sons face, albeit a bit slower, in the same low light without an external flash focus assist. Observationally, I agree with third party review sites that shadows can be brightened by a couple of stops and highlights can be somewhat more recoverable than the 5d mk ii, so dynamic range has been improved. In unprofessional use, I think the Sony would make a better walk around camera by being smaller and offering sensor based image stabilization. However, the 5d mk iv allows me to best use my existing lenses and external flash without concern for the performance of a third party converter. This includes use of 400mm 5.6L with a 1.4x teleconverter for rocket launches and birding. Still, I wish I could have a camera the size of the Sony with built in image stabilization to make my 1740mm F4L non IS lens more useful. Its a shame that I recently had to use ISO3200 at the Naval Academy Crypt of John Paul Jones even though ISO3200 appears considerably cleaner from the 5d mk iv than I am used to from the mk ii.

To start off with lets get this out of the way .. it was never meant to be a front runner for video get over it already Canon is pushing their video camera line As a still camera, it is very good. The auto focus is excellent rarely does it ever miss. I used to shoot weddings but now mostly landscape. The dual pixel touch screen for focusing is outstanding. It is true that its noise and dynamic range characteristics do match up with the likes of a Nikon d850 but is still good in its own right. You can definitely lift the shadows with less noise virtually no banding unlike the 5 d Mark III where the banding was a real problem. Ive tried it. Also check out some of the pro reviewers on Youtube and they will show you exactly what I am talking about. In very contrasting scenes you can of course bracket or use the built in hdr function, if you need extra dynamic range. A number of pro reviewers including Tony Northrup have given this camera high marks as a still camera. Since I am without need for video, I am very happy with this as a still camera. For the record we own two of them If you are looking for a great still camera not heavily in need of video I highly recommend this camera.

I had been using the 6D and have been waiting for the Mark II, got sick of waiting, so started looking at the 5D Mark IV. The reviews were great, and when I went out one morning to take photos of lupines, I talked to 3 photographers there. They all had 5D IVs, and they all loved it. So I ordered one the next morning. The learning curve from the 6D was negligible, the only temporary problem being figuring out one of the AF menu settings. Ive only had the camera for a few days now, but Immediate advantages I see over the 6D include better image quality, larger image size 6720 x 4480 pixels allowing for more cropping potential, more AF points, touch screen, and more intuitive button layout. I like its small separate remote port, as opposed to the 6D where it shares a larger port area. The batteries seem to deplete significantly faster than with the 6D I dont use GPS. I thought maybe it was because I was using the auto brightness default setting for the LCD, so changed that to manual. That didnt work well for me on auto anyway, as it seemed not bright enough for daytime shots and too bright for night shots. I had a couple of software problems because the 5D Mark IV uses a new RAW format. I had been using Lightroom 5.7 and had to upgrade that to 6.0 for RAW support. I had been wanting to do that anyway for the LR improvements, such as panorama support. I also had been using DeepSkyStacker for Milky Way photos, and that does not directly support the 5D Mark IV RAW files. Not an issue with the 5D, but I never shoot video, so have always wished that Canon supported cameras that did just photos, as I assume those could then be offered at a lower price. Im sure some people shoot just video. Why not offer 3 lines e.g. photo only, video only, or both. Ive attached my first photo small size taken with the 5D Mark IV and the Canon 2470 f2.8L II, my goto lens for landscape photography. Love the camera. Highly recommend.

I have tried many cameras Sony, Leica, Nikon, Fuji and several Canon models including the new R series. The RF lenses are, for the most part awesome awesome prices too but the camera cant keep up with the 5D Mark IV. Out of the many thousands of pictures I have taken the 5D Mark IV has produced more outstanding pictures than the rest combined. Paired with classic EF L glass in the crunch when speed, focus, light ,color and clarity need to combine to create art the 5D comes through If you have time to set up, plan, use a tripod , get the best light , operate in good weather, experiment with lenses and shots good photographers can make great pictures with many cameras. But in the crunch in funky weather, or when you cant ever get that shot again…..give me the tank.Yes, your mileage may vary, but make sure youve tried one before you doubt….

I have tried many cameras Sony, Leica, Nikon, Fuji and several Canon models including the new R series. The RF lenses are, for the most part awesome awesome prices too but the camera cant keep up with the 5D Mark IV. Out of the many thousands of pictures I have taken the 5D Mark IV has produced more outstanding pictures than the rest combined. Paired with classic EF L glass in the crunch when speed, focus, light ,color and clarity need to combine to create art the 5D comes through If you have time to set up, plan, use a tripod , get the best light , operate in good weather, experiment with lenses and shots good photographers can make great pictures with many cameras. But in the crunch in funky weather, or when you cant ever get that shot again…..give me the tank.Yes, your mileage may vary, but make sure youve tried one before you doubt….

The way I see it is if the L glass and 5D4 were and still are being used by the pros, its good enough for this amateur. I have used the 5D4 before and loved it. And no, Im not missing the flippy screen on my 6D2. If I find the need, Ill use the Canon Connect app as my display.

This Canon 5D Mark IV is my go to full frame camera The improvements over the 5D Mark 3 are quite astonishing. Also, the 30 mega pixel sensor is absolutely wonderful when cropping a shot in post processing. I can perform a major crop during post processing and still have enough pixels left to keep the picture sharp. The touch screen display is a very nice touch. Bought this to take over as my main body for my sixyearold 5D Mark III and was expecting a significant upgrade, but have been a little underwhelmed. This is a very capable camera, as is the Mark III which has performed well with heavy professional use, primarily commercial, photojournalism and nature wildlife still photography. I rarely shoot video, so my comments are only photo related. Initial impressions after several jobs and lots of testing are Most important features, similar to the Mark III, are lowlight high ISO shooting and silent drive which are great for available light events similar to weddings. The Mark IV does well in these situations, but not significantly better than its predecessor. I comfortably shoot at 3200 ISO with the Mark III, and might go 23 to 1 stop higher with the Mark IV. Autofocus is good, but still has familiar issues. There are so many different patterns and options, and they all seem to work well in certain conditions but then fail miserably in others. I have the same issues with long lens wildlife photography in quick changing circumstances as with the 5DIII. Tracking is a bit faster but accuracy isnt much improved. Both cameras produce great files, and added pixels arent a big priority for me. New Mark IV features like touch screen LCD and dualpixel raw dont add much for me, either. Color balance is noticeably different on Mark IV, which is a slight bother in processing. Overall, this is a great camera, but only a modest upgrade from the 5D III. Hopefully it will be as durable and reliable.

I got this to play with the dualpixel raw output. Thats a unique ability and the camera deserves 55 for having it, except there are some issues with how its implemented…. Thats actually the story overall. The 5D IV is a very finished product that could easily be mistaken for any of a half decades worth of Canon DSLRs which is a good thing, because it means it is very familiar and pretty. It also is a good thing that this has Canons best sensor to date, delivering 30MP images that have nearly as much DR dynamic range as my older Sony bodies. However, overall we are talking about a rather huge camera body with a clutter of controls that make sense mostly because theyre familiar. I also do a lot of manualfocus work and the OVF screen is bright, but completely unusable for judging focus. The rear LCD is very pretty, but again live view manual focus is a pain. BTW, I have three AF lenses for this two of them AF faster on my Sony A7II using the metabones adapter, the third is about the same on both bodies, but sometimes gets lost on the Sony its a Tamron 90mm f2.8 SP Di Macro, so theres quite a long focus range to seek through while the 5D IV almost always eventually finds focus. The hitormiss AF using some EF lenses on Sony bodies makes this the best DR sensor to deliver reliable AF with EF lenses… although Sony does better with some most EF lenses. In sum, this is a workhorse camera with huge potential, but I think only the Canon faithful will love it as it is. Magic Lantern is working on porting to it as I write this, and I think that will be the real game changer the ML additions should qualitatively improve this camera, also making it the best reprogrammable consumer camera ever made. It really depends on what lenses you have as to this or an A7RII being the better way to use your AF EF lenses….

Then, I moved to the 5D Mark III, which had a muchimproved autofocus system with a central focusing point sensitive down to an aperture of f8 but did little to improve lowlight image qualityor many of the other deficiencies of the Mark IIand, furthermore, in my opinion, shot softer images than the Mark II with the same lens. Now, in the 5D Mark IV, Ive found a camera that is a significant upgrade from its predecessorsin most respects.The 30.4 MP resolution has proven valuable for shooting distant subjects. Since the focal range of my lenses extends up to only 600 mm, I often need to crop photos of distant subjects, such as birds or bears, in order to get closeups. In doing so, I retain more resolutionand therefore sharpnessthan I did with the 22.3 MP Mark III.At first glance, the autofocus system in the Mark IV seems just like the one in the Mark III and, in fact, the layout of the focusing points is pretty much identical. However, all 61 points of the Mark IV are sensitive down to f8. And this, coupled with some other underthehood improvements, makes a WORLD of difference while focusing in lowlight In many scenarios where the Mark III would take seconds to focus, the Mark IV focuses practically instantly. While shooting with available light indoors or outdoors in the early morning or late evening, this often makes the difference between getting the shot and not. So, this is, in my opinion, the most substantial improvement introduced by the camera.The autofocus system also incorporates a Canonspecific technology called dualpixel autofocus, which allows the sensor to be in autofocus mode and imaging mode at the same timeso that, for example, when you put the camera in Live View mode and tap your subjects position on the screen, the camera immediately focuses on the subject and takes the photo. Furthermore, I often tinker with astrophotography, using an attached telescope and the GPS data is useful for determining the relative position and timing of a particular event.And everything else. The camera does achieve the advertised shooting rate of 7 photos per second, which is nice when needed. Though the controls are identical to those of the Mark III, I find using the touchscreen to be more efficient when activatingdeactivating functions that have been embedded within the menus. The wifi capability is awesome for remote shooting no more cables but, as expected, it substantially reduces battery life. Ive loved the versatility and quality I was getting from the full frame sensor in the 6D, and wouldnt consider anything less than full frame again, and Ive invested a TON of money in decent Canon glass, and so this seemed to be a good choice, on paper. Coming from the 6D, many of the controls and menu options were familiar. It took a few days of general messing around to start getting the hang of the additional controls and options I now had. Oh, and the ISO selection button on top of the camera is in a different position. The first thing that struck me was how much more solid the shutter sound was in this camera, and how much better weighted and balanced it was, in comparison to the 6D Once I started taking pictures in earnest, I was blown away. Compared to the 6D, this thing produces incredible pictures. Colors look closer to reality colors are appropriately warmer and more accurate. The dynamic range that this machine can cope with are astounding, as I discovered on an outing to take photographs along the nearby coastline. Low light capability is also an order of magnitude better than the 6D. This is a very expensive camera, but oh so very worth it. Highly recommended

One thing I was surprised about is that you can set it to keep taking pictures so that you could set up a tripod and be in some photos. This is the only camera I know of that you can set how many and how often you want it to take pictures. I set it for every 3 seconds it takes a photo up to 30 photos. Extremely helpful while capturing our Christmas card photos with dogs Also, Connor at the Niagara Falls Blvd location was extremely helpful. He wasnt even in the camera section but he came over and helped. He is knowledgable and I was thankful he was there to answer questions.

I am a Canon guy have have been for years for everything from my pointandshoot, to my video cameras, to my projector, to my DLSR. LOVE THEM and love their products. Ordered the 5D Mark IV to replace my 60D which Ive had since 2012. Its a great step up in a lot of ways, the biggest for me being its video capabilities. Like all cameras in this range, it shoots amazing stills but its ability to get amazing video has really set it apart. I use it for both myself as a photography hobbyist as well as the production work I do as a career. Excellent camera

There are some scratches on the top screen which were pictured in listing, shutter button is mushy making it difficult to take consecutive photos accurately, this was also not mentioned in the description. Also the included battery had a pretty terrible recharge rating remaining. Additionally the top scroll wheel is slightly unresponsive, requiring it to be pressed down and scrolled to sometimes register input. With that being said the camera still mostly works well producing great images, and being responsive despite the relatively high usage from previous owner.

I tried a 3 shot bracketed exposure and then combined into HDR it came out really good. But then I took the darkest of the three exposures and adjusted the shadow setting on it in Lightroom and it came out just as good and in my opinion even better since the colors looked more natural. Conclusion dont bother with HDR, just shoot for the highlights. There is so much latitude for adjustment with the RAW images this camera shoots. 24105 lens This is a great multipurpose lens. I use it for outdoor weddings among other things. I like it better than my 2470 2.8 because of the added telephoto range which is good for portraits, plus this lens has image stabilization, which makes up for the slower speed. This lens is even better on a cropsensor camera for portraits. I just wish canon would come out with a 40160 f4. That would be perfect for shooting people outdoors with a fullframe camera. Some people argue that Sony and Nikon have better sensors, but I think that they fail to realize that Sony cameras preprocess their RAW files down to 12bit, so they are not true RAW. Canon shoots 14bit RAW which is Way more info than 12bit. 64 times more info in fact. Sony supposedly is starting to offer true RAW, but I havent seen any comparisons between that and Canon yet. BTW sony makes Nikon sensors so they are very similar in quality. IF you are a Canon guy you will like this camera. IF you are NIkon guy, the controls might seem backwards at first.

Also, the ability to easily pull stills from this 4K footage. The dualpixel autofocus is also stunning, and totally changes the way you shoot videos. Especially when shooting wide open with a fast lens, its incredibly easy to keep things in focus. Now, what about the negatives Im not finding anything truly negative about this camera per se, only things that could have been better the 4K video files are huge although you can transcode them down to a quarter of their original size the dynamic range has been improved in the shadows, but the recovery of blownout highlights appears to be similar to the Mark III which isnt bad in this category at all and the higher ISOs are equally as grainy as those on the Mark III, although as mentioned, the color rendition has been improved the lack of an articulating screen is a little disappointing, although when you consider the amount of use and abuse a workhorse like the 5D needs to be able to withstand, perhaps its for the best. There are, of course, a host of important video features that are absent from this camera focus peaking, zebra stripes, a flat log profile, etc. But frankly, the 5D has never been a true hybrid camera its always been a great stills camera that can also, with a few workarounds, produce great video too. In conclusion, the many updates make this camera a joy to use. Also, like the earlier 5D cameras, it feels fantastic in the hand, with lots of subtle refinements that make it the most ergonomically satisfying 5D yet. Compared to the earlier 5D cameras, it almost seems to have a brain, and you constantly feel that its helping you to make images.

I am very happy with the upgrade from the 5D mark III. My recreational photography has been stills. One part of the reason I shot little video was the lack of good focus tracking in video. I was frequently dissatisfied with my ability to manually pull focus. Usually my attempts at video were not much better overall than video from a cell phone because of focus issues. The DPAF removes the worry. Now videos of grandchildren are a snap. No hassle of one camera for stills and a different one for video. I envision using 4K only occasionally. The hassle of the large file size and the advantage of a good still from any frame seem to me to balance out. I like the mark IV better than the mark III for stills as well. The ability to use exposure compensation while in Auto ISO is very helpful when the subject moves into different lighting but is always darker than the general scene. The greater ability crop and to pull the shadows matter only occasionally for stills, but these are nice to have now and then. The ability to crop at editing and the wireless connection make it easy to get a good picture to my wifes cell phone while on site. The remote shooting from an iPhone was not hard to set up and is great for that family picture when I need to be included. The controls feel just the same as the mark III for routine stills, no fumbling around while learning a new camera. This is not the camera for production of large amount of video, but for me it makes video a real option in the same camera I use for stills.

This camera is a proven workhorse. Very solid build quality and the ergonomics are great. If this camera had a builtin stabilizer, it would be perfect with the extensive prime lens selection Canon offers. Uses a tripod is not always the suitable choice. I purchased an 85mm 1.2 that is very sharp if used with the tripod. I guess Ill get the 2470 2.8 IS andor the 70200 2.8 IS lens for handheld situations. Still a great camera BH service is second to none.

They are not all super new technologies, but first time ever incorporated in the 5D series, so since I had no plans of going back to cropped sensor camera, for me it is a game changer.Besides that I do agree that this upgrade is not even close to what the mkii and mkiii represented when they came out, but for a professional photographer the new and better 5D mkiv is the way to go, it is a better overall camera and like I said it will ALWAYS get the job done.If you are a professional and ask me if it is worth it, Id say yes everytime. If you are an hobbiyst or enthusiast Id only recommend if money isnt an issue, because the mkiii is as good as the mkiv but today a lot cheaper.In the end, after testing and working with this camera I couldnt agree more with what is being said, the Canon 5D mkiv is not a revolutionary camera but definately evolutionary. The buttons and dials are very crisp, the touchscreen and that new auto focus selection button are killer. Coming from older Canon DSLRs the myriad of options and new features can often be a little overwhelming. There are multiple ways of accomplishing the the same interaction and therefore the learning curve with the 5D Mark IV is mainly about discovering whats important to the way you shoot.For me the two best new features are the GPS and Capacitive touchscreen. These are indispensable to me, because of their ease of use and the time they save me. I use the GPS to tag the location of each photo I take. Then when I transfer them from the camera to my iPhone, iPad, iMac etc the location and street names are automatically assigned to them in software. Canon has done a really fantastic job on the touchscreen. Its glassy smooth, the colours are rich, vibrant and accurate while the resolution is beyond what the eye can perceive.I highly recommend going for a Compact Flash card as the camera feels like it was designed to work with one rather than an SD card.

It is fast and a very snappy autfocus system is probably the best you can get overall, apart from the twice as expensive 1DX Mark II. However, it is the overall image quality that is by far the best. Colors are accurate without being flat, and as a photojournalism student who still has to make prints, the quality is spectacular since that becomes the test as images degrade in the printing process and often look much better on a screen than when they are printed. 30 megapixels is the sweet spot, large enough for gallery style prints, w ithout amount of grain that you start to get at 40 or 45 megapixels, Im often sizing down to only 3000 pixels at the long edge because Im making 10 inch prints on standard photo paper and start to see how sharp the photos when sizing down. It takes both great jpegs and raw files that are quite easy to edit. If youre a professional photographer this probably the one you want. As for video, I dont use 4k but at full 1080, the quality of the video in terms of color and sharpness far exceeds any other dslr or mirrorless by a long shot.

I moved up to the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV from Canon EOS 40D and the difference is night and day. I expected a big improvement over that good but somewhat dated body and this one exceeded my expectations. Image quality from the 5D Mark IV is so good it is the first camera Ive seen that regularly delivers images that visibly and obviously benefit both from the sophisticated detail enhancing raw conversion mode in Adobe Camera Raw, as well as being able to be processed and sharpened as much as you care to without bringing up distracting noise or artifacts. I was concerned that an older keep on the camera at all times, its that useful 28135 Canon zoom I got back in 2000, wouldnt be sharp enough for the higher photosite density in the 5D Mark IV, but I guess the dual sensor photosites are doing their jobs as I am surprised at the great level of detail even in the full frame 30.3 megapixel captures. And the body is clearly built to last. Prices have dropped in 2020 dontstunt your photography by missing out on one of these awesome cameras.

I moved up to the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV from Canon EOS 40D and the difference is night and day. I expected a big improvement over that good but somewhat dated body and this one exceeded my expectations. Image quality from the 5D Mark IV is so good it is the first camera Ive seen that regularly delivers images that visibly and obviously benefit both from the sophisticated detail enhancing raw conversion mode in Adobe Camera Raw, as well as being able to be processed and sharpened as much as you care to without bringing up distracting noise or artifacts. Yes the 4k files sizes are huge, but the colors are absolutely amazing, and the quality is almost better than real life, honestly. Yes you will need an amazing computer just to watch the raw video at full render, but it is amazing I have a intel 20 core, 64GB ram, 1070 video card and can only watch at half resolution with no hicups, but the next investment is the dual video card 1080 setup that can keep up with those bit rates. You will need to use spotting scope at a power over 25x to avoid vignetting at 4k, and pictures1080p will always have vignetting. The pictures are flat out amazing. I almost bought the 1DX ii, but since the batteries and SDCF cards would work from my 7D this was the more sensible route. This camera is everything I wanted in a camera and truly is amazing. I have had 0 issues with it, but did take an hour just to set the camera up like i wanted it. It does not take as many pictures before buffering as the 7D can, but will still take around 20 RawJPEG before it starts really seeing the buffer. I use San disk Extreme Pro 128GB for CFSD and will do the 4k video with both no problems, just keep in mind the CF is almost 2x faster downloading the enormous amount of data to the computer. 128GB is perfect card size for 4k video and 1 battery life. Yes it is around 30 mins of 4k video, but now i am way selective of what I video which is a good thing now. The low light is amazing being a full frame versus my 7D ii. Now if I never used this camera, I would say the 7D ii is awesome, but this camera blows the 7D ii out of the water no doubt. Way to go canon. As more of video grapher, I want all the raw data and really manipulate the colors.

And it just feels like I could throw it out of a moving car, pick it up, and keep shooting. A friend of mine recently bought an A7III, and when comparing their size it is almost comical. Looking at them it is hard to believe they do the same thing. Its like seeing Shaq with Kevin Hart together.Next thing I noticed was the sound and feel of the shutter. This is another purely preferential observation, but this is the 8th camera Ive owned, and it has by far my favorite and most satisfying shutter sound. A lot of you wont care, it doesnt affect the quality of the image in the slightest, but for me its just a small thing that makes the camera that much more enjoyable to use.If you are used to the canon ecosystem the menu and buttons present a few new things, but overall it is very intuitive and you will feel right at home.I wasnt initially very excited to buy a new camera, it was simply a necessary business purchase, but unexpectedly I kind of feel like a kid with a new toy again. Its just enjoyable to use and feels like a reliable tool in my hands.

First off i am a Photographer Filmmaker, so my first box i needed to check off for a new camera was for it to be highly capable in both shooting environments. On the photo side of things, I started my professional fullframe photography journey with a nonfunctional Canon 6d that i purchased off of craigslist that i was able to bring it back to life long story lol anyway the 6d become the first full frame camera i ever owned and completely changed the way i took pictures emphasis on pictures.Although it does shoot video, if you are serious about your video work you soon realize the limitations of post production when it comes how pliable the footage is before it completely falls apart. You know the usual suspects Easily blown highlights, unrecoverable shadows, artifacting. In comes the Mark IV with its dual pixel autofocus technology, 18000 max shutter speed for shooting fast glass in daylight goodbye heavy color shifting Neutral density filters, 4k video up to 29.97fps i was certainly eager to trade up my 6d but the cost difference was significantSo i toyed with idea for a couple of months Longgg months and upon waiting a rumor came out that suggested canon would add their Log Profile to the camera. The announcement certainly added more fuel to the fire but i was still not ready to fork over so much money for a camera. In came the Canon 6d Mark ii, hmm definitely closer to the budget i had in mind. With atleast some of the newer tech inside which would help me out alot, atleast on the photography side of things.I went for it did a few jobs and quickly realized everything was upgraded except for the most important part, the SENSOR Even small lifts to shadow areas or pull downs from overexposed highlights showed just how unforgiving it was especially for event shooters. If you are the portrait and studio types than no worries you have time to get more favorable working conditions. I tried to like it but unfornately i returned the 6d Mark ii within 2 weeks By this time though, the Mark IV w Canon Log had already been released. As i went back to return the 6d Mark ii after downloading and playing with the 5d Mark IV files, for comparison, i was convinced. I needed the 5d Mark IV in my arsenal.I purchased the 5D that same day and never looked back The raw photo files are highly recoverable. There were multiple times when i thought i lost a photo and to my surprise the lightroom sliders brought it right back to life As for video, People complain about the 422 4K MJPEG Codec but if you handle the files properly it is absolutely beautiful footage, especially when shooting in Canon Log be careful not to underexpose though as Canon Log seems to favor holding on to the highlights over saving the shadow areas. It is almost magical how the highlights are held onto in Canon Log versus the standard profiles.For editing purposes i immediately transcode the MJPEG footage using a program called MPEG StreamClip to a DNxHR low bitrate file which matches source exactly by providing a output file that is 422 8bit but at 13rd the file size of the original. I will end this review with these words of caution if you are considering this camera for shooting video.1. That 1.74x crop factor can be a really stressful adjustment. Id consider purchasing the Sigma 1835mm to help gain back some focal length on the wide end giving you a full frame equiv. Of approx. 31mm.2. Which kind of ties into the the first point. Jello cam is definitely a issue you have to be aware of, especially when shooting in 4K. I can see why they chose such a high croo factor any sudden jerks to the camera or sudden movement from your subjects and youll quickly see the rolling shutter monster rare its ugly head. Not showstopping but depending on your level of production it can be unacceptable.3. 4K video shooting eats LPE6ns for breakfast. So either buy them like candy or figure out a shooting solution such as using a dummy lpe6 battery and run the cord out to a sony Npf etc.4. 4K recording is only internal. If you go external however you can record an 8bit 422 1080p as opposed to the internal 8bit 420 1080p file.5. To maximize editablity id suggest picking up a white balance tool i.e. color checker passport etc so that you can capture the most acccurate picture possible. Therefore youll have more wiggle room for color grading without wasting it on color correcting footage that is way off. Since its still an 8bit file at the end of the day.I hope this helps tremendously for anyone who was or is in a similar position as i was. Sometimes its hard to get all the info you need in one place.

Now I look for any excuse to take pictures.A little history I borrowed and tried other brands along with Canon before making purchases and resuming my photography hobby just over a year ago with a new Canon T5i. I outgrew that in a couple months and found a verylowshuttercount Canon EOS1Ds Mk III, and its fullframe viewfinder optics were like coming home for this old man who used to shoot when 35mm wetfilm cameras were still widely used. Still, it was tough to get good images during indoor sporting events that prohibit flash. After several months of searching, I tried the Canon EOS 5D Mk IV.The Canon EOS 5D Mk IV is the answer, for me at least. Im so pleased with the lowlight capability of this DSLR camera body. My EF 28300mm IS L and EF 100400mm IS L lenses gain the newfound ability for me to be used freehand with no monopod or tripod during indoor concerts without a flash. Canons noise reduction at high ISO numbers amazes me when I first selected ISO 25,600, my first thought was Oh, this is just for advertising it cant possibly shoot a decent image at such a high ISO selection. Well, I can say the resulting images are still truly usable The AWB automatic white balance easily beats my ability at managing it manually I may eventually gain greater skill at selecting white balance color temperatures, but for now, AWB is what I use most of the time, happily.My EF 28300mm IS L stays attached to this 5D Mk IV about 95 of the time, its a true goto and do most things combination for me. Yes, its definitely a heavy setup, but Canons BGE20 grip assists controllability marvelously. Freezing motion with excellent clarity during flashprohibited indoor sporting events is more easily attainable, and Im no longer hampered by dark frames due to indoor 120Hz lighting flicker here in most of the Americas this EOS 5D Mk IV can also take care of this in the many, many countries that use 50Hz power, ergo, the resulting 100Hz flicker of some indoor lighting power supplies.7 FPS continuous shooting is easily enough for my sporting event uses, the touch screen is very intuitive, and I appreciate the high ISO performance. Nice images from my EOS1Ds Mk III are 75 Canon, 25 me. Very, very nice images from my EOS 5D Mk IV are 90 Canon, 10 me. I just love when technology makes me look like Im doing a better job taking pictures.

I bought the 5D to replace a 6D and I havent been disappointed. Its quite a big jump up in price compared with the 6D, which reflects the general robustness of the camera as much as the additional features, resolution and the boost in dynamic range. Unlike some other manufacturers bodies it doesnt feel overburdened with features Ill never use it just works. For me the measure of a good camera is that it doesnt get in the way of what I want to do, and the 5D fits this requirement. As a longtime Canon user, the menus and button placements are all fairly familiar from the start, which helps a lot.I like the touchscreen a lot, particularly for navigating menus and the touch focussing in Live View, and it work well with gloves on too. The focussing is clearly a lot more sophisticated than Ive had before, with focussing points available across a much wider area in the viewfinder. The twin card slots are very useful too, although I dont understand why Canon didnt fit two SD slots rather than one SD and one CF.So far, the camera has just done what Ive wanted and has performed perfectly even in very cold conditions cold enough for there to be a layer of frost on the body and lens.

I have been a Canon user for many years. Every few years I add another camera to my collection. My hubby has wanted me to get the Canon 5D Mark IV, but I have been hesitant because of the cost. The Christmas price was too good to let pass by. It is more technical than my 80D, but so far it has been great. I can see I am going to spend more time with the manual before I master my new toy. Photography is strictly a hobby for me. Looking forward to hitting the national parks for some wildlife shots It is a bit heavier than I expected, but handles well when out on a shoot. Although I have the Canon 100×400 lens, I added the Tamron 100×400 to this camera. This is going to be a great addition to my equipment

As a longtime Canon user, the menus and button placements are all fairly familiar from the start, which helps a lot.I like the touchscreen a lot, particularly for navigating menus and the touch focussing in Live View, and it work well with gloves on too. The focussing is clearly a lot more sophisticated than Ive had before, with focussing points available across a much wider area in the viewfinder. The twin card slots are very useful too, although I dont understand why Canon didnt fit two SD slots rather than one SD and one CF.So far, the camera has just done what Ive wanted and has performed perfectly even in very cold conditions cold enough for there to be a layer of frost on the body and lens.

I have been a Canon user for many years. Every few years I add another camera to my collection. My hubby has wanted me to get the Canon 5D Mark IV, but I have been hesitant because of the cost. The Christmas price was too good to let pass by. It is more technical than my 80D, but so far it has been great. I can see I am going to spend more time with the manual before I master my new toy. Photography is strictly a hobby for me. Looking forward to hitting the national parks for some wildlife shots It is a bit heavier than I expected, but handles well when out on a shoot. Although I have the Canon 100×400 lens, I added the Tamron 100×400 to this camera. This is going to be a great addition to my equipment

While shooting any type of event, a photographer will try to be silent and not noticeable, but that was difficult with the Mark III even with the silent shutter turned on. The Mark IV has had a great improvement with its silent shutter feature. When showing my clients their images, the ability to zoom in and show detail right from the screen is something I never knew I needed. Touch screen allows you to quickly zoom in on details, and make sure that what youre shooting is sharp. To summarize, if youre able to upgrade to the Mark IV, I would do it immediately so that you can be the next person to recommend this camera to any Canon user.

Ive been using a Canon 7D Mk II for a few years now, and upgraded to the 5D Mk IV for better low light capabilities. Was I ever surprised when I saw the increase in image quality of the images from the 5D compared to the 7D in good light, this was a huge upgrade for me I do miss the reach that I lose with the full frames sensor of the 5D versus the 7D, and also the 10 frames per second of the 7D. However, the image quality from the 5D is so much better that I want to shoot everything with the 5D now that I have it.I can use all the focus points when I have the 1.4 X teleconverter behind the 100400 mm L series lens at f8, either moving a single point to where I want it or using them all for birds in flight, although I seldom do that. I did test it to see if it worked, and it does.The shutter is quieter than my 7D, which means that Im less likely to spook a bird when Im close to it.The color reproduction of the 5D is much more accurate than the 7D.The 5D has two stops more dynamic range than the 7D, which helps in every image that I shoot it seems.Of course theres much less noise in images shot at higher ISO settings, Id say that Ive gained two stops in that respect, meaning higher shutter speeds in low light for better images, or I can keep the shutter slower for less noise.Since this is my first full frame camera, I cant comment on whether this would be a good upgrade from something like the 5D Mk III, but coming from Canons best crop sensor I have to say that Im blown away by how much better my images are already, and I havent had the time yet to live with the Mk IV to be able to get the best from it. I wish that I had made the upgrade sooner.

Ive only had the camera for a couple of weeks but I have done several tests that show this is a significant step forward for the 5D camera line. I do mostly landscape and nightscape and was really hoping that Canons new sensor was capable of competitive performance as far as dynamic range. I was not disappointed. The Mark III is an excellent camera for nightscapes and does very well at high ISO, but the Mark IV is a little less noisy at high ISO and you can really push the shadows without generating too much noise. Raw files underexposed by three or four stops can be recovered with very good results, something that is just not possible with the Mark III or even the 5DS. The highlights are also easier to recover. The raw files are less saturated and less contrasty than the Mark III files but if you add 5 clarity and about 20 vibrance during raw processing in Lightroom, they are essentially identical. If you shoot JPG the files are very nice right out of the camera. The autofocusing is very sophisticated and fast and the touch screen focusing is almost instantaneous in Live View. Very impressive. I dont often do video so I cant comment on that aspect of the camera, but if you shoot mainly stills, this is a great camera with a lot of latitude for processing to taste. I am most impressed with the touch screen and the dynamic range. Also, if the dynamic range of the scene is just too great, the camera will do incamera HDR processing. You can also do up to seven bracketed images if you would rather blend later in software. Last but not least is the nice bump in resolution from 22 to 30 megapixels. Its not a huge difference but it is definitely nice to have for large prints and cropping. This is a sweet spot between the Mark III and the 5DS that doesnt overtax your computer. In all, a very good all around camera that allows you to concentrate on the scene and not worry about technical shortcomings. Other brands may be a tiny bit better at one thing or another but this camera does everything very well and is a welcome upgrade to the Mark III.

Ive upgraded from a 5D3. The 5D4 upgrade is so superior to the 5D3 and the image quality is so much more excellent that looking at the images just leaves me speechless and breathless. Also, the focusing is just magnificent. It has greatly improved my BIF keeper rate. If you dont want to upgrade to mirrorless and pay the ridiculous price increase, then this 5D4 is the best camera on the market. Dont believe everything you hear about the mirrorless wonders. Considering the price difference I would put this 5D4 up against any mirrorless Canon offers. Buy the 5D4. You wont regret it.

Low light performance is about on par with the 6D and Mark III with a tad better DR for detail recovery. A however momentous upgrade is to wireless protocol for this model, although both my 6D and 70D offer wifi as an option it is often left off and untouched because its interface as well as limitations in the Canon mobile app leave a lot to be desired, problems abound from unstable connections to the clunky setup and menu system and inability to send full RAW images over wifi. The wifi direct and NFC make sending shots to my phone a breeze allowing me to send content to the cloud for backup.

After that, I was confident that it was the camera for me.Now that I have used it, I can tell you that I am very pleased with the higher pixel count sensor, the new dual pixel autofocus system, and other new features. I also find the touch screen to be very fast and reliable, even though I have large hands. I havent experimented with the dual pixel image capture feature, but I look forward to trying it. I have not used it for video, but I would have bought the camera even if it didnt have video.I have customized the control buttons for my way of shooting, including back button focusing. The ability to create multiscreen custom menus and custom shooting modes is very advantageous. Overall, I spend much less time making the necessary adjustments to the camera between scenes, and spend more time shooting.I think this camera is a good match for anyone wanting to step up to a proquality fullframe camera either from the very good 6D or one of Canons crop sensor bodies. I hope this helps encourage anyone who isnt sure about the 5D IV based on the harsh press that this camera received early on, to take a leap of faith and give this camera a try. Ill start off by mentioning the Focus System. Although it has 61 focus points, 41 being cross type, like the 5D Mark iii, it is not the same focus system merely spread out more and rated at lower light levels. Its a far more intelligent system, the same one thats in the 1DX Mark ii. The RGBIR metering also changes things. There are far more ways to customize the camera than before, I wont go into that here, but check out the video on Youtube, Back button focus on steroids. 30 Megapixels seems to be the sweet spot. Ive had other cameras that have more megapixels but with out in body IS or IS on every lens you have, more than 30 and it starts becoming hard to get it sharp at 11 handheld. You can see a major resolution difference at 30MP vs 20MP for example, however once you get to 30, they all have that high resolution look and its harder to tell the difference in 30 MP and 46 MP. VIDEO I dont believe Canon dropped the ball here as some are thinking. In 4k you get a full readout from the part of the sensor that records the 4k video. That means no pixel binning. This causes a sharper image with no alias and moire. Take the Sony cameras for example, the A7Rii shoots 4k in full frame, however most will not seriously use it in full frame because it pixel bins, the image is much more dull as well. So, most people put the A7Rii in, Super 35mm, mode, which is a 1.5x crop, they then get a full readout of that part of the sensor, as the Canon does. The Canon however is a 1.7x crop, for comparison, the Canon 7D is 1.6x crop, the Sony A6500 1.5x crop, the RED Epic cinema camera 1.7x crop for 4k, which is around Super 35mm. I highly doubt your eyes will be able to tell the tiny difference in 1.5x and 1.7x. Another thing that was complained about all around the web was the .MJPEG codec, which is a codec that creates an 8.8MP JPEG for every single frame, so if youre shooting 30FPS, youll get 30 JPEGS a second. This causes the video files to be HUGE. For example, a 256GB card gives you an hour of 4k footage. That is a disadvantage if youre doing a lot of video, especially event video. However, for those of us who are hybrid shooters, who are photographers but like to do video as well, we mostly shoot smaller clips that are edited together later. I use a few 256GB and 128GB cards and have never had a problem. Also, SD cards do work for 4k if they are fast enough. If you compare the 4k image to other camera manufactures it is really hard to argue against the Canon 5D Mark IV. As most hybrid shooters, youre probably a one man operation. It has dual pixel auto focus for video, it shoots even at 4EV which is almost pure darkness. It tracks everything including faces very well. If youre doing a video that involves you being in the video or away from the camera the app on the iPhone or iPad works great, you just touch what you want to focus on, if you want tracking you turn that on and it does the job with very few mistakes. DPAF is far superior than any other focusing system in video right now, to me, that alone is worth dealing with the huge file sizes if thats a problem. Last but not least if you plan on doing any video, get this camera with CLOG. CLOG is not a gimmick and it does make a difference. You get 12 stops of dynamic range in video at ISO 400 or above. That is more dynamic range than the 6D, 6D ii, or 5D Mark iii has even in its photo mode. Final thoughts Its amazing the quality of video and photo you get out of this thing, its built like a tank. I wouldnt make decisions from spec list, Id use one yourself. The added dynamic range for photos has proven to be quite good as well, especially for underexposure and shadow recovery. You can under expose more than 4 stops and bring it back in post and have no noticeable noise or banding. There are quite a few test doing just that in video and photo against other cameras in which the 5D Mark IV ends up winning out, even against cameras that have a stop more dynamic range. Those cameras end up winning out on pulling back highlights, the Canon does well at pulling back highlights but it does amazing at pulling up exposure and shadow, so as long as you dont over expose more than likely you can get it all back in post. Ive had this camera since February and every time I pick it up Im still stunned at the accuracy of the auto focus with both the mirrorviewfinder and live view DPAF. IMO, although it doesnt have a tilt out screen, your smartphone or tablet is far superior at doing that anyway, there is really no lag to worry about in the Canon app and its very easy to set up. It has GPS as well, I do not use that. The battery life is great as usual with Canon.

This causes a sharper image with no alias and moire. Take the Sony cameras for example, the A7Rii shoots 4k in full frame, however most will not seriously use it in full frame because it pixel bins, the image is much more dull as well. So, most people put the A7Rii in, Super 35mm, mode, which is a 1.5x crop, they then get a full readout of that part of the sensor, as the Canon does. The Canon however is a 1.7x crop, for comparison, the Canon 7D is 1.6x crop, the Sony A6500 1.5x crop, the RED Epic cinema camera 1.7x crop for 4k, which is around Super 35mm. I highly doubt your eyes will be able to tell the tiny difference in 1.5x and 1.7x. Another thing that was complained about all around the web was the .MJPEG codec, which is a codec that creates an 8.8MP JPEG for every single frame, so if youre shooting 30FPS, youll get 30 JPEGS a second. This causes the video files to be HUGE. For example, a 256GB card gives you an hour of 4k footage. That is a disadvantage if youre doing a lot of video, especially event video. However, for those of us who are hybrid shooters, who are photographers but like to do video as well, we mostly shoot smaller clips that are edited together later. I use a few 256GB and 128GB cards and have never had a problem. Also, SD cards do work for 4k if they are fast enough. If you compare the 4k image to other camera manufactures it is really hard to argue against the Canon 5D Mark IV. As most hybrid shooters, youre probably a one man operation. It has dual pixel auto focus for video, it shoots even at 4EV which is almost pure darkness. It tracks everything including faces very well. If youre doing a video that involves you being in the video or away from the camera the app on the iPhone or iPad works great, you just touch what you want to focus on, if you want tracking you turn that on and it does the job with very few mistakes. DPAF is far superior than any other focusing system in video right now, to me, that alone is worth dealing with the huge file sizes if thats a problem. Last but not least if you plan on doing any video, get this camera with CLOG. CLOG is not a gimmick and it does make a difference. You get 12 stops of dynamic range in video at ISO 400 or above. That is more dynamic range than the 6D, 6D ii, or 5D Mark iii has even in its photo mode. Final thoughts Its amazing the quality of video and photo you get out of this thing, its built like a tank. I wouldnt make decisions from spec list, Id use one yourself. The added dynamic range for photos has proven to be quite good as well, especially for underexposure and shadow recovery. You can under expose more than 4 stops and bring it back in post and have no noticeable noise or banding. There are quite a few test doing just that in video and photo against other cameras in which the 5D Mark IV ends up winning out, even against cameras that have a stop more dynamic range. Those cameras end up winning out on pulling back highlights, the Canon does well at pulling back highlights but it does amazing at pulling up exposure and shadow, so as long as you dont over expose more than likely you can get it all back in post. Ive had this camera since February and every time I pick it up Im still stunned at the accuracy of the auto focus with both the mirrorviewfinder and live view DPAF. IMO, although it doesnt have a tilt out screen, your smartphone or tablet is far superior at doing that anyway, there is really no lag to worry about in the Canon app and its very easy to set up. It has GPS as well, I do not use that. The battery life is great as usual with Canon.

I tried the R6 which was great in terms of eye tracking and tack sharp focus at least initially until the focus started going wonky on me but the R6 froze twice on me during photo shoots. So I got the 5D Mark IV instead and coming from a 5D Mark III, its a great upgrade. 30 megapixels, better dynamic range and just a plain old reliable workhorse. This camera is EVERYTHING I didnt even know I needed. I upgraded from the 6D that Ive been using for about 5 years and it is amazing The quality of the images are even better. It is a bit heavier and I noticed my wrist hurting after using it all day a week or so after purchasing it. Still doesnt deter me from using it though. Definitely worth it. I can now use the 6D as my family travel2nd wedding camera. Its a pretty penny but you wouldnt be reading this review if you still werent considering it. You wont be disappointed in this luxury body. Whilst there has never been a perfect camera and probably never will be the 5D Mark IV is the pinnacle of 30 years of SLR camera development from Canon. Its ergonomically almost perfect, supremely rugged and reliable with superb picture quality. While with the possible exceptions of ergonomics it may not lead the pack in any category it has risen above the sum of its capabilities and is a truly classic camera. It can be taken anywhere in the world, in any environment and take consistently excellent pictures without fail. What more could be asked of any camera. Just as well I have no interest whatsoever in video

The touch screen, the custom quick control, the custom mode C1C3, and the reassignable buttons, work so well together and make this camera a joy to use. The wireless, NFC, GPS, existing flashes, and batterycharger are all working.Creativity Tools The HDR, multiple exposure, and others give you ways to try different approaches. The HDR has many options and allows you to save the original RAW and JPG. I also shoot in RAW and play with the picture stylescolors with my imaginations.Peace of Mind I use both CF and SD and record to both and no need to find a computer to copy pictures for backup. The weather sealed body is another plus.Now the not so good The battery grip is less than satisfactory. It cannot quickly attached or deattached, and it offers no battery configuration options like using 1, or 2, or even 3 LPE6s, or AAs.And the bad The camera box was slightly damaged and looked like it was opened and repackaged. I dont know this is the result of BH packaging or Canon quality control. Anyway, this is the only reason I give it 4 stars.

I got this camera for mainly stills and to be an excellent B Cam to my C100mkii, but after using it a couple times for video…Im impressed and Im preferring the quality of it over my C100mkii I do wish they gave the option for zebras and peaking on it, but I understand why theyre not doing it and thats because it is a stills camera first and foremost.The stills out of this camera are incredible, the autofocus is fast both in stills and in video. Seriously, the DPAF dual pixel autofocus, is the best AF hands down. I have been using it quite a lot for video since there really isnt peaking available. Aside from that the latitude this camera has for recovering shadows and highlights for stills is also very impressive. Theyve got the stills portion down4K on this camera is niiiiiiice The codec is ridiculously huge, and yes the 4K crops in on the image 1.7x, but it is still incredibly sharp. For me, I deliver everything in 1080p so its not a big deal, but one thing to note is when using the 4K the rolling shutter on this camera is quite horrendous. Have a lens with IS, a gimbal for those buttery smooth shots, or a tripod.I got the package with the battery grip so I really dont have to worry about battery life. Its really nice I like to think of it as a little brother to the 1DXmkii.Great camera and I cant recommend it enough. I specialize in extreme macro, micro and tele footage.I really wanted to love this camera having shot with the Canon 5D Mark II and the 7D for close to 10 years and owning a slew of Canon glass and accessories. But, sadly, this camera can not compare to the Sony A7R III in 4k with which Ive done extensive sidebyside testing and which Im keeping instead. Here are the Canons three biggest limitations for 4k video1. It shoots in the archaic and highly inefficient MJPEG codec which creates gargantuan file sizes that required me to purchase multiple 256 GB cards at 300 a pop right out the door and wouldve required the purchase of five times as many storage drives compared to Sonyshot footage. Whats worse it shoots at a bitrate of 500Mbs which wouldve required me to purchase a new, more powerful computer or an expensive external graphics card for smooth playback.2. It uses a 1.74 crop in 4k which effectively turns a 24mm lens into a 42 I was forced to purchase Canons 1,000 extrawide 1635mm lens to compensate. Actually, I loved the idea of the 1.74 crop since I shoot a lot of extreme tele and macro and this gives me a lot of free effective length, but the Canon locks you into 1.74 so youre forced to swap lenses any time you want to go from long to wide and back to long again. By comparison, the Sony A7R has a 1.5 crop that is OPTIONAL. You can instantly go from wide to long with the push of a button. Whats more Sony has an additional feature that gives you an additional 1.5 zoom factor which gives impressive telephotomacro results, and believe me, Im very picky. With the Sony I can effectively turn a 400mm lens into 900mm with no apparent deterioration. I can achieve an effective 1,260mm when I add a Canon 1.4 extender, with virtually no loss in in quality. BTW, while many reviews site an additional 1.2 crop on the Sony when shooting at 30 fps, that only applies to the A7, NOT the A7R which uses a different 42 MP sensor. There is NO additional crop difference between shooting 30 fps or 24 fps on the A7R.3. Rolling shutter jellocam artifacts are much more severe on the Canon compared to the Sony A7R. I was amazed at how minimal they are on the Sony having shot with cameras with rolling shutters for close to ten years now. This was not necessarily a dealbreaker since you always have to pick your shots carefully when shooting with cameras with rolling shutters, but the reduced artifacts of the Sony opens more shot possibilities.Bottom line, Canon has been resting on its laurels since the introduction of the 5D Mark II where did that genius gowas it a fluke and can no longer compete with Sony I regret to say. I get the sense that the Sony A7R is much more of a video camera, while video is becoming an afterthought for the Canon DSLR line. Sony has zebras, peaking, time code generation and external 4k recording Canon does not. Sony shoots 120 fps at 1080 Canon can only do 60fps at 1080. Being mirrorless, I can actually look through the viewfinder on the Sony while Im shooting which is great for bright light conditions not so the Canon which requires a 3rd party viewfinder like the Zacuto when shooting in bright light. Sony has a titling LCD screen Canons is fixed. I can run an external monitor from the Sony without losing picture on Sonys LCD screen or viewfinder the Canon LCD shuts off when connecting to an external monitor so theres no sharing with another crew person. Sony has Slog AND HLG Canon has only Clog. One hit on the Sony as far as Slog and HLG, though, is that the milky images typical of uncorrected log gamma are difficult to see on the Sony LCDviewfinder, while the Canon has a feature, if you select it, that enables you to see enhanced color and definition on the LCD even when shooting in CLog. I have not found such a feature on the Sony.I should point out that the Sony A7R does NOT have antialiasing, which results in sharper images which I love, but also leads to moire artifacts in some subjects. The Canon has A.A. which practically eliminates moire artifacts, but at the expense of very slightly reduced sharpness. Why cant Canon and Sony have optional A.A. so you can pick when you need itBTW, Im keeping all my Canon glass, etc., and using a Metabones adapter, which loses some lens functionality, but Ive always shot manual anyway, so this is not a big concern. I will also keep the awesome Canon 1635 wide angle zoom for my gimbal work.There is still much to love about the Canon 5D Mark IV the look, the rugged feel, the build quality, easy menu navigation, larger buttons, the exceptionally bright LCDviewfinder, the robust builtin timelapse capability, the fact that it is true 4k, not UHD like the Sony and this has not been an easy decision, so if 4k is not a concern, I would say absolutely go for for the Canon. Sadly, I will have to return mine with the hope that Canon will eventually introduce a DSLR or mirrorless camera that can compete with the A7R in 4k.BTW, some argue that Canon has purposely crippled the 5D Mark IV so it wont compete with their cinema line. This was not necessarily a dealbreaker since you always have to pick your shots carefully when shooting with cameras with rolling shutters, but the reduced artifacts of the Sony opens more shot possibilities.Bottom line, Canon has been resting on its laurels since the introduction of the 5D Mark II where did that genius gowas it a fluke and can no longer compete with Sony I regret to say. I get the sense that the Sony A7R is much more of a video camera, while video is becoming an afterthought for the Canon DSLR line. Sony has zebras, peaking, time code generation and external 4k recording Canon does not. Sony shoots 120 fps at 1080 Canon can only do 60fps at 1080. Being mirrorless, I can actually look through the viewfinder on the Sony while Im shooting which is great for bright light conditions not so the Canon which requires a 3rd party viewfinder like the Zacuto when shooting in bright light. Sony has a titling LCD screen Canons is fixed. I can run an external monitor from the Sony without losing picture on Sonys LCD screen or viewfinder the Canon LCD shuts off when connecting to an external monitor so theres no sharing with another crew person. Sony has Slog AND HLG Canon has only Clog. One hit on the Sony as far as Slog and HLG, though, is that the milky images typical of uncorrected log gamma are difficult to see on the Sony LCDviewfinder, while the Canon has a feature, if you select it, that enables you to see enhanced color and definition on the LCD even when shooting in CLog. I have not found such a feature on the Sony.I should point out that the Sony A7R does NOT have antialiasing, which results in sharper images which I love, but also leads to moire artifacts in some subjects. The Canon has A.A. which practically eliminates moire artifacts, but at the expense of very slightly reduced sharpness. Why cant Canon and Sony have optional A.A. so you can pick when you need itBTW, Im keeping all my Canon glass, etc., and using a Metabones adapter, which loses some lens functionality, but Ive always shot manual anyway, so this is not a big concern. I will also keep the awesome Canon 1635 wide angle zoom for my gimbal work.There is still much to love about the Canon 5D Mark IV the look, the rugged feel, the build quality, easy menu navigation, larger buttons, the exceptionally bright LCDviewfinder, the robust builtin timelapse capability, the fact that it is true 4k, not UHD like the Sony and this has not been an easy decision, so if 4k is not a concern, I would say absolutely go for for the Canon. Sadly, I will have to return mine with the hope that Canon will eventually introduce a DSLR or mirrorless camera that can compete with the A7R in 4k.BTW, some argue that Canon has purposely crippled the 5D Mark IV so it wont compete with their cinema line. That makes no sense to me since it really only pushes people like me toward equivalent priced but superior cameras like the Sony A7R. Wake up, Canon

That meant I could crop to make up some of the lost effective magnification of my cropsensor, 7D Mark IIs, and enjoy the dynamic range superiority of the 5D.So far I have tested the 5D Mark IV attached to a 500 mm f4 with a 1.4X Mark III Extender.One thing I noticed, almost immediately, was a significant increase in autofocus speed and consistency. This has been reported by other reviewers, and I can confirm it. I tried the combination on Lesser Canada Geese taking off at 300 yards range, with excellent results in ideal lighting conditions.As for the increased resolution without loss of dynamic range, that seems to be true also. Using the same 500 mm x 1.4 combination, I shot Rosy Finches in harsh backlit conditions I was able to push shadows 2.25 stops in processing and still maintain excellent color gradation and contrast, as evidenced by the attached picture of a Hepburns Grey Crowned Rosy Finch.Ive a lot more tests to do, but so far I am very satisfied with the body, and I have no regrets at all for making the purchase.

Been using a 70D since 2013 and love it but this 5D Mark IV is better than I expected. I only use L series lenses so once I hooked them up to this baby, it was like I had new lenses all over again. Great camera body heavier and larger than the 70D but the full frame sensor is a different ball game altogether. Getting the full 24mm wide angle on my 2470 L II has been a great help to my landscape shots I no longer need to shoot panoramas as much and the resolution is stunning.

I wanted to change things up and considered switching to The Fujifilm mirrorless system. I was looking into the XT4 and the XPro3. After renting the XPro3 and shooting with it for a few days as well as reading endless reviews of these cameras, I finally decided to stick with the Canon DSLR system. Im glad I did as it offers a level of control I dont get with cameras with an electronic viewfinder. Being able to see what the lens sees as well as allowing me to control the aperture, shutter speed and ISO quickly and on the fly is extremelycomfortable and natural to the way I shoot. I do love the Fuji X series of cameras and I own the X100V, but to me, I dont have the comfort level I do with the 5D Mark IV. So far, Ive only used the camera for one professional shoot but I was able to customize it to how I had my 5D Mark II setup. The images created using the 5D Mark IV paired with the 2470mm L glass is phenomenal. Shooting in RAW, I have such wonderful control and the ability to fine tune the highlights and shadows. I could care less about the video capabilities and really wish this camera was available without the video feature. There doesseem to be a perpetual number of customizations that Ill need to work through. I wish Canon or any camera brand would develop a still photography only camera with very straight forward menus and controls. Basically, a film camera with a digital sensor without spending Leica prices. Having said that, the Canon 5D Mark IV feels great in the hand, is very intuitive, features a great optical view finder and is built like a tank. I held off upgrading my 5D Mark II for many years but Im glad I finally did as I saved several dollars overthe original price when it was first released.

Upgraded from the 5D Mk III, that I felt had some minor issues with less than stellar noise in low light photography, subpar resolution and dynamic range that leaves a lot to be desired, and too few AF points. Mostly using my camera for travel photography, I also hated that I had to use a hot shoe addon that needed a separate battery just to record GPS…Fast forward to the IV, and all these issues have been addressed with more, more accurate and faster AFs great resolution 30MP that in my opinion is just the right spot below 2224, its just too few, and above 35 the RAW files are just too massive unwieldy included GPS outstanding dynamic range good noise in low light that can be mostly removed in post processing and as a bonus, a visible through the viewfinder electronic level The latter can save you quite a bit of time in postprocessing, when you dont have to straighten the horizon in hundreds of pictures. The addition of an HDR shooting mode thats reasonably well customizable, is a big bonus over prior iterations of this legendary camera.In combination with the 2470 f2.8 L lens, this is an unbeatable cameralens combo that produces tack sharp, beautiful pictures, that look stunning after some minor postprocessing. Even if you shoot in JPEG, those come out spectacular straight out of the camera.Overall, no complaints with this camera, no significant features are missing the addition of 4K video is a bonus, but not a key feature of this particular camera, so I dont understand why people are complaining about it. Want a video camera Get one that is designed for that purposeOnly concern with Canon is that I have no real needs that Im looking forward to addressing perhaps with the next model Mk v so I wont be in a rush to upgrading any time soon.

Jump to 2020. With a much better presentation on my part I was given the thumbs up to acquire the 5Dm4, and Im very happy. Lots to learn however, and will require some studying to get up to speed. I guess this might be the last version as mirrorless takes over, but stoked this one is ready for my creativity and quite helpful that it is robust but lightweight.

That night I went right away to my computer and started the return form with BH, so when I got home a week later I dropped it in the mail.Something not right with the Focusing System on this camera. Ive put more than 250,000 actuations on my Mark III and Im just glad it made it until my Mark IV came in. It is this amount of experience that IMHO allows me to comment on my early observations with the Mark IV. Ive had six assignments in the first ten days with this camera with more than 3000 shots. I shoot everything in raw and am proficient in Adobe Camera Raw. The increased shadow detail is impressive and long before a photo is washed out by ACR adjustment, the near perfect amount of detail is revealed. Have not noticed as much improvement in the highlight end but I tend to expose to best cover that. This past Saturday I shot a Fall Sports Festival for a local college. Simultaneous playing of mens baseball, womens softball and mens soccer games along with coed tennis matches offered a shooting environment I dont have a lot of experience with I primarily shoot slow moving corporatecollege events. I was blown away with the focus speed during action shooting and captured shots Ive never quite gotten in proper focus before. Just yesterday, I shot a lecture in a beautiful old hall at a Chicago University. It is a very dark room and it was my fourth year in there. I have always been impressed with the very acceptable noise levels of a higher ISO setting 4000 6000 with my Mark III but would only shoot in the 8000 12,500 range when it was the only option I had. I have always shot this event on a tripod, very cumbersome while moving around a room. Yesterday, I shot this event totally hand held with ISO settings ranging from 2500 to 10,000 with the majority of shots at ISO 8000. Every single shot presented very acceptable noise levels and any one of them would make a great 8.5 x 11 gloss magazine page. I read the manual twice before my camera arrived and continue to tweak camera settings to get the most out of a specific shooting environment. I expect the results will only get better. The response of the touch screen is awesome.

My grandad was always a huge fan of QVC when he bought coins and my Mother used QVC all the time when I grew up so I honestly never thought something like this would happen. Im going through the process of returning the device and I obviously would like a brand new one but Im not even sure if the third party company is trustworthy or even has these cameras brand new. Id like to hope it was an honest mistake but we will see. The quality of this camera isnt even open box quality.. this is 100 used. Sand, dirt, scratches, water stain on the most important internal part of the camera… Not sure how the distributor had the courage to even send this to a customer.
