To cut a long story short, someone else reviewed this model who was in a similar situation and I decided to give it a go. Im glad I did This shaver is great, cuts really well and leaves the skin nice and smooth. I dont even bother with cream or anything. Trimmer is ok for side burns but thats about it. Get plenty of shave time out of the battery too.

I have only used this shaver a couple of time having purchased it recently but have found it to shave much closer than any Phillips shaver I have had before. With the Phillips shaver that I have previous if I shaved in the morning I would have to do it again in the afternoon but with this shaver it lasts all day. Controls are easy to use and the 2 year warranty is a plus.

I have been using Braun razors for a very long time and have always found they shaved better than other makes, so when my last one started having battery problems, it was not a dilemma for me to get another one. The razor should prove to have been excellent if it lasts as long as all my previous Braun razors.

I have had about three Braun razors over the years but this one is far the best at giving me a close shave, it shows how the technology and features have improved. Good looking unit, however I purchased this for my son and on his bum fluff it doesnt seem to produce a good clean finish. I found that on slightly course hair it had a better finish. I would recommend this unit for a quick trim but is difficult to get a consistent clean shave.

I bought this to replace a 12 year old Braun which couldnt be repaired.So this new Series 5 5140s is about my fourth Braun foil shaver and they just keep getting better.Handling it is very lightweight and feels well balanced.Battery life is very good so far six shaves on 2day growth each time and the battery charge is about half.Closeness it provides a very close shave if used properly and is probably slightly closer than my old shaver and with less effort. The shaving head has 3 cutting elements, its quite slim and very easy to maneuver in tight spots.Comfort it always provides a perfectly comfortable shave. It is very forgiving and gentle to the skin and I have not experienced any discomfort or irritation.The long hair trimmer is positioned on the back of the shaver and its very handy for sideburns etc. However it has a curved profile I think that a straight edge would work better, but its not a deal breaker.Cleaning this shaver must be cleaned manually. Gently tap the shaver head on the countertop, foil side up, follow that with brushing, follow that with a flush under the tap. Let it air dry and then reassemble and use Shaver Shops Shaver Guard every time. The combination cutter and foil cassette is a bit harder to clean than previously when they were separate, but this seems to be the norm nowadays.The overall build quality is very good, with no visible defects or unsightly gaps between the various surfaces.Highly recommended

I was impressed by the ease of the shave and that, by the end, my skin did not feel hot and strained. Purchased to replace an old 8000 series which had gone past its use by date,, over 12 years. I like the run under tap cleaning in place of the cycle cleaner, mind you the cycle cleaner also charged the shaver as well so that is a loss, which does not concern me. Overall very happy with Shave quality and performance of this 5000 series shaver is very good on par with the old 8000 series.

Had S5 about 18 months and has suddenly will not work. It is fully charged , but when I switch on for shaving a small red lock signal appears and I cannot find a way to restart the razor which up till now has been good.

My series 3 died last year, was using a five blade razor and thought was ok but I was getting fed up with cuts etc. Bought this yesterday and tried this morning, wow, better than the 3, even after four days growth. Very easy to use and love the pivot head, Id recommend to anyone. Very impressed. Not going to throw the blades out yet but theyre on the top shelf now. Grew up with electric, glad to be back.

I purchased one of these from Amazon on 30th December 2018. After just over 6 months of daily use wet rather than dry, always left stood upright after rinsing out it just simply failed to work. A very well made shaver that gets as close as the best to removing the bristle. It comes with its own case, which is not large enough for the charger, although this will not be an issue normally as a charge has lasted over a week. Money well spent, and no regrets.

I have used Brauns for the last 40 years. This is an excellent shaver. I also have found the trimmer on the side doesnt work as well for some reasons as previous lower models but it just works so Im happy. The on off button is a lot more sensitive than my previous Series 3 so I often accidentally turn it off while shaving which is annoying but I just have to hold the shaver differently. The battery charge lasted a week so much better than my old. I was surprised when I opened the box that there was only the shaver and the smallest cleaning brush I have ever seen. Even cheaper models used to come with a cheap plastic case plus a bigger brush and a bottle of lubrication oil. So I had to buy a travel case on Ebay for 4.50 so surely Braun could have supplied one there was room in the box, saving costs no doubt, and what would they cost to make 0.50 at worst. Overall still an excellent shaver and I would recommend it. Check what accessories are included before you buy.

My first electric shaver and Im really happy with it after having used it for a few days. The convenience that comes with dry shaving is not to be underestimated. Cleaning is pretty straightforward too. This does sprinkle small pieces of hair under where you are shaving, but thats more of a minor annoyance than a dealbreaker for me. Wasnt too impressed with the closeness of the shave the first time I tried it out. However, this was more due to my faulty technique than a problem with the shaver. Would highly recommend reading online for proper technique if you havent used one before. The model at PbTech is also an older Series 5 which is objectively better than the newer Series 5 thats being sold in most other major stores. Its more ergonomic, has a movable head as opposed to a fixed one on in the newer Series 5, a more powerful battery, and is supposed to be better with longer hair. It is also significantly cheaper due to it being older. Grab it while its still available.

Not what I expected from what used to be a premium quality manufacturer. Poor quality plastic, and no case provided, the cleaning brush is tiny, easily mislaid without case. Adequate no frills shaver, dont expect Braun quality of 20 years ago. It was cheap, not necessarily good value.

First real electric shaver Ive bought but needed one as Im currently having Radiation treatments after cancer surgery. This shaver is gentle enough that its caused no irritated skin on my face at all, having been a razor blade shaver all my life 56yrs the finish is good not as smooth but very passable. The battery is lasting up to 2 weeks before a recharge cleaning the shaver is a breeze. Im extremely happy with the result everything about this shaver. I highly recommend it especially for other people having radiation chemotherapy.

Upgraded to this model from a cheaper brand and wish I did it sooner. Been using it for just over a month. The battery life is awesome. Gives a quick shave in minimal time with minimal effort. Only issue is it does take a few extra passes around the neck and Adams apple. I use shaving cream to avoid redness and its been working well so far. No problems with skin irritation. Its a very sturdy unit that feels well made and will last a while.

If it stops working, then you need to change the headcutters Read the manufacturers instruction. This shaver is built in such away to stop working after 18 months unless you change the cutter

I bought this Braun Series 5 model 5140s shaver to replace my Braun Series 5, 360 Complete, model 8975 bought in 2006, which recently bit the dust due to a failed circuit board which Braun no longer supplies.After 12 years there doesnt seem to have been much in the way of improvements in handling, ergonomics, battery life or shave closeness.The two shavers perform very well, but nevertheless pretty much the same.On the minus side for the new model the integrated cutterfoil cassette doesnt seem to be an improvement having them separate on the earlier model meant easier manual cleaning and replacement. Also, the popup trimmer is slightly more difficult to use due to its curved aspect.

Long time rotary head shaver user Went in looking for new blades, gasped at the price and thought Id give the Braun a try at only a small amount more than head replacements. I wasnt sure if I had made a wise move while they were being delivered. On first shave it was definitely faster and a lot closer shave over the rotarys. Having the trimmer on the back is so much better than swapping heads. The replacement heads are half as much also The only area which it isnt better is that it vibrates fairly strongly and is also noticeably louder at the same time.The speed of cutting, closeness of shave and the straight edge cutting I feel is better then triple rotary cutters. I am much happier in the cutting and usability of this model over the most expensive rotary one I have had experience with.

I have had several electrical shavers. This is the best Ive had. Better for short stubble shaving it is much closer shaving that rotary shavers. You get less in grown hairs and its much gentler on your face. Managed to pick this up for 99 which was a steal. Only thing closer is a razor.

Over six months in and the shaver is still going strong. Its a solid unit with practical features. The mesh pulls occasionally but catches my hair much better than my old series 3 shaver, although I suspect the Optifoil mesh on Series 7 shavers would be even better. The battery lasts nearly a dozen uses before needing a recharge. Battery light indicator is very useful. Long hair trimmer is located in a good spot, extending out the top rather than out the side of my Series 3 which made it awkward to get the angle right. Long hair trimmer width could be wider though. Could still be easier to clean, particularly underbehind the long hair trimmer, but still easy nonetheless.

This is my fourth Braun and second Series 5 shaver, which probably indicates I am a loyal and satisfied customer of the brand. The 5 in my view offers a fine balance between features and price. This one appears to provide a slightly bettercloser shave than my previous model, and the first charge lasted 3 weeks a threefold improvement. The cassette head is easier to clean than the separate cutter and foil in the old one. The trimmer is perhaps the only weak spot, being somewhat ineffectual. Also, there is no travel case, just a plastic protective cap for the head, but the body is rubberised and looks like it could take a knock or two in a bag.

I changed to this shaver after years of using a 3 head rotary type. This is a better design for my beard although nothing electric shaves like a safety razor. This shaver was quite a bit more noisy than the other design but I have become used to it. It is easier to clean with a simple foil cassette removal and a dust off of the cuttings. Length of shave time seems more than adequate before the battery needs recharging. I have not tried it in wet shave mode.

Very difficult shaving under chin and neck, even when shaving everyday. My adult son who has a genetic syndrome has a tented top lip and the space between his top lip and nose is smaller than usual. The head on this shaver is so big its also very difficult to shave here. Everywhere else is fine. I had it on too high a setting the second time I used it on him it made the skin under his chin neck bleed… worst shaving rash hes ever had in that area. Easy to rinse clean and charge lasts a good time. Shaver probably ok if youre not using on someone with a severe intellectual disability.

I bought this a few weeks ago on sale for half price at 150. The S5 was a quick seller and I ended up ordering online to secure one. It feels great in the hand and the head is highly manoeuvrable. I used it in the shower as the wetdry feature is fab. Unfortunately, the motor is a bit underpowered and lacks the finess of the S7 shaver but that was considerably more in price. I really wanted this to be a compelling review for customers, I really did. However, after weeks of use I find it quite disappointing that my Braun Mobile Shaver M30 30 yields a closer and cleaner shave than the Braun Series 5 5140S both wet and dry shaving. Ive watched lots of video howtos, allowed my skin to acclimate to the shaver, used different products and Im left scratching my head and chin as to why the M30 gives me a far superior result than the Series 5. It is wet and dry. You can lock the swivel head to get under your nose without contorting your face or pulling at your lip and the charge lasts forever. This was my first electric shaver purchase so I have little to compare it to. However, I am pretty satisfied overall. I will note there is no way Id pay 250 for a shaver, so my choice of product needed to fall around the 125250 range.The cut is pretty close and doesnt catch at all. The battery and waterproofing are this units best features. Ive owned the unit for 2 months and shave every two days and Ive recharged it once Cleaning is a breeze under the tap and being able to use water andor lather to shave provides great choice.The only shortcoming I can mention is that it has trouble picking up hairs that grow flat across the skin, and for some reason Im finding that I have quite a few of these.

I have used this on and off for a couple of years and all in all it below average. With the lubricant spray it can perform ok. when I say ok, it does give a very close shave but its a bit of effort. the lubricant spray often gets taken away at airport check in unfortunately and without it I am at a lost as performance with water is useless and shaving cream similar.
