Wow. I am in love. Just so many options and capabilities. After half a dozen photoshoots now, I feel like I have grown another highly functional appendage. I moved from Nikon DSLRs to this camera, and am convinced to go all in on associated kit for this wonderful piece of technology.

Over 60 Megapixels. Excellent auto focus. be careful which setting you use. Decent battery life. Smaller size then the A lens line. You can buy an adaptor for your A lenses so you dont have to buy more glass. The adaptor doesnt allow all autofocus functions, a bummer There are 2 adaptors out there one allows the auto function to work, but leaves others out. So, you can buy both or eventually buy lenses in the C line. I have some of both. Due to cost, I dont plan to replace all. Sony has some A lenses that are smaller in size and much more reasonably expensive. That is highlighted by the 600x lenses that can run into the thousands vs the A 8500 which is in the low hundreds.

In order to take great images you need the combination of both a great camera body and fantastic lenses. There needs to be a balance…and this is it.Buy this with Sony GM lenses. Youll amaze yourself.

I shoot a ton of ice hockey. It requires fast focusing in some of the very worst lighting conditions. In the past I used the Canon 5Dmkiv 5Dsr and the Sony A7R II III with the 70200 f2.8 L and Gmaster lenses respectively. I have not tried the A9 but I have to say the autofocus on the A7R IV tracking very fast moving subject that move in an out of other subject is the best I have used yet and it is very far ahead of the A7R III. Once a moving subject is in focus using continuous autofocus it is lock on to focus and remains locked on as the subject moves behind other subject the reemerges. Tracking a hockey player as they move down the ice advancing behind other players, around the back of the net, then back out in front is incredible since the focus points continue following and appear to accurately anticipate where the subject will reemerge. Simply incredible, bordering on unbelievable. In my opinion a huge improvement over the A7R IV worth the upgrade by itself and you still get a larger better designed grip and ergonomics, vastly more detailed viewfinder and 62 megapixels to boot. This upgrade is a no brainer based on the autofocus improvements alone. So happy Sony rescued me from Canon after 35 years of loyalty. Its a great time to be a photo hobbiest.

Camera software has many bugs. Focus tracking and other focus settings do not work correctly, hopefully it will all be fixed in firmware update soon. Other than the focusing problems the image quality is really good. If you really need the camera now get it otherwise I would wait till they update firmware. Ive owned all the a7r series cameras and this camera has the most focus issues of them all.

Love this camera. The beat autofocus i have ever seen, so fast. The resolution in the market. I recommend this camera to photographers and hybrid shooter who wants decent video quality.

After using both Nikons and Canons I switched to Sony to lose weight while hiking. This is my 4th Sony A7r and each improved on the previous model. the first was primitive. While having a lot of pixels is great when cropping is desired, the big change is with the autofocus. The people or animal eye focus is amazing. But, the trackingexpand flexible spot is a game changer. The camera is new in my hands, but so far the flexible spot sticks to the subject well. The 61 MP seems like a lot, but I programmed a custom button the APSC mode and now my 200600 MM lens is a 300900 And, with 27 MP. So, more MP is useful. After all these years I still get excited when there is wildlife action. On my first venture with the A7r4 and 200600 zoom, I was looking for birds. Small and fast, the focus worked fine. Ive never had so many keepers. But, the light was poor and I dialed up the ISO to 12,800 to get a shutter speed to freeze the birds motion…and forgot about it as I was shooting and light got better. As I loaded imaged into Lightroom I saw the ISO and cursed a little. But, I was surprised the grain was not all that bad. My guess is, with all those pixels packed into the same space, they are smaller and therefore the grain is finer. So far my night images look great, but not enough time with it yet to have any opinion. One final note. Ive been a photographer 50 years, but I dont make a living from it, or try to. Im just having fun.

Have been doing a lot of research. This camera is truly a jack of all trades, and master of many of them I love landscape photography mostly, but also love to take pictures of architecture as well as people. Yes, 60 odd megapixels is amazing, I like the double UHS I or UHSII cards that can be used. I read reviews that said the Menu is terrible. I came from Canon and still use it. That said, I did not find the Sony Menu as bad as people said I actually like it more than my canon, but everyone will be differentThe autofocus is spectacular especially with humans or animals. I love the ability to be able to have 3 quick selects with my own favorite settings automatically brought up. So I can select C1 for my landscape, and if I want to take a picture of a human I just click C2, and that will switch the camera and settings to use eye detect and other primary settings for shooting people, I love that. I will be using the camera for photography, the odd time, video and for me, it is the perfect set up. I think I spent a year looking at many cameras. If you buy it, Enjoy

After owning a Nikon D7200 which I sold and a Nikon D850 which Im keeping as a backup camera, I decided to go back to Sony when they came out with the Sony AR7IV.I shot Sony for a number of years and love the ease of learning and use of their cameras. The same is true of this camera. Its pricy when you start adding multiple lenses to go with it, but it has been worth every dollar. The picture quality is also superb

Great camera. Just used it for a photoshoot and the next day for a coorporate conference video. It allowed me to do a full 2 hour shoot without stopping. I could have easily done 3 to 3 12 with a battery grip. I was shooting inside but also at 4K 30. Better than expected performance and it was nice to match my other Sony A7R III vs mixing with 5D IV and having to deal with the Canon codec. I used the MC11 and 100400 with 35 crop to extend to 500. With stage lighting I was able to shoot at 125 ISO, 60fps, 7.1 manual focus due to nonnative glass. I would love to see this in video with native glass but I have yet to get longer lenses for the Sony platform. File sizes are HUGE for photos. Why cant sony provide a smaller option. I would be okay with it buffering longer to shoot at 24 or 30 mp when shooting real estate but 120 uncompressed and 60 compressed is a pain. I have to use a different body. Tired of rolling through Terabytes of data every month. I know, this can be solved by me deleting files but I hate deleting source files.

My other camera is an a7rii, so I liked to think I was already familiar with Sony mirrorless cameras. Sony has taken the great foundational elements from that camera, identified the opportunities for improvement… and really delivered in those areas. Two of particular note for me are extended battery life and the focus tracking. I am often photographing moving subjects and the focus tracking really delivers. It locks onto the part of the subject often an animal eye and follows it around the frame until Im ready to press the shutter. With so many pixels available, great focus is crucial, and the a7rIV really delivers.

Grippy is the only way I know how to describe the latest of the Sony lineup. After trying a friends rIV, I left my rIII in a week. Its the grip itself. I fits my hand perfectly. But, that wasnt enough for me. The grippy, sticky autofocus is simply phenomenal. It stays on eyes, faces even when turned away from you.I simply couldnt go back to my rIII knowing I could have so much control.Even in video…I hadnt realized this during the trial but even the video tracking is sticky as can be. Even if the subject falls out of frame.I love this thing. I swore I wouldnt buy a megapixel machine because I didnt need it. But the autofocus, yes please

I watched this camera for a while and when its on EDU discount, I ordered it with no hesitation. This is an update from my old A7III.I mostly shoot landscape, so this definitely worth it. You do need to purchase more USH II card if you come from A7III and they are not cheap, also you will feel some of the lens are no longer sharp enough for the high res.Basically, if you buy this, you will spend a lot of more money than the camera body. I would say think twice before you make the order.

This is my first mirrorless camera. I bought it with the sony 20mm 1.8 and the quality of the pictures are outstanding. Couldnt be happier with this purchase. The build quality is great. It doesnt feel plasticky like my 2 canon DSLRs rebels. I chose the a7Riv over the a9 and I have zero regrets.

So many times with other Sony cameras the exposures were blown out as I had not noticed that the compensation dial on a corner of the camera had moved unintentionally. Sony has fixed this with a lock on the knob. Great news Everything about this camera is an upgrade and of course 61 beautiful megapixels and excellent vibrant color I love it.

I have been researching this camera body since it came out and finally took the plunge. Have used Cannon cameras for the past 20 years but I liked what Sony had to offer. Bit of a learning curve from what I have been used to but its worth it.

The A7R M4 has been awesome ever since receiving it. Ive done multiple time lapses and the results have been great. Im just waiting on a great sunset now.Photos are the sharpest Ive ever taken on a digital camera. All my existing FE lenses are finally being used to their potential. I appreciate the bigger battery for added shoot time.

I upgraded from the A7III mainly because I wanted to be able to crop my photos and still get great detail I was NOT disappointed Although, the noise seems to be more, I can live with that. If overall sharpness is what you are after, this is the camera you want. I use for video as well and the video seems sharper then the A7III. Maybe thats just me but it seems great. And I dont see the noise issue with video that I get with photo. Very happy with the images Im able to get with thisThe downside is the file sizes are huge To be expected but still. Not everytime you want ALL the detail. I wish they would come out with a firmware that changes to 24megapixel mode. The way around right now is to go into crop mode but that does take away from the focal lengths you may want.

I actually held off upgrading my original A7R until this model came out. The previous jump from 36mp to 42mp wasnt quite enough more me to justify, as I mainly do landscapes. Now that I have the A7R4, I also am enjoying the other features. Animal eyeAF is amazing for my foster dogs, the shutter is amazingly well damped, and the overall handling is better than any previous DSLRs Ive used in the past 1215 yrs. There is always a lot of fuss made about needing perfect lenses and a reinforced steel tripod to maximize the resolution. A vast majority of my handheld shots with the 24105 are tack sharp. And the Tamron 1728 is also stunning on this camera. IBIS, the damp shutter, and good technique are sufficient to benefit from the added resolution.

Using this with a cannon 815mm fisheye and metabones adapter on a nodal ninja pano head to create beautiful highresolution 360 panoramas for real estate virtual tours. It makes 20,000×10,000 panos in 4shots at 12mm or 13,000×6,500 in 3shots at 8mm. Now that the new a7r4 is out, the previous version is an even better value than it alre was.

I had placed myself on the wait list months ago and was fortunate enough to be able pick one up last Friday. The IV has an improved control layout and even the sound of the shutter release make this a massive upgrade to the Sony Alpha AR7 IV. Out of the box and with a non G lens the camera produced amazingly crisp and large and images. Menus and UI also seem faster, quick startup and expanded image buffer. Wonderful focus options, in the same realm of the A9.My only concerns are future wear scrapes and scratches, coming from a Canon 5D ecosystem I wasnt accustomed to Sonys terrible paint. This camera is so new that there are few if any protective wraps or cases.Overall, an amazing rig, and so glad I made the leap.

Awesome camera… not an easy 1 2 3 as you may think. You have to know what youre doing. Besides this is a PRO line camera, not for go to the yard item. 61MP with amazing AF capabilities. Great endurance of power battery life plus all the features we are used to from previous Sony cameras. Great ergonomics, dual SD slots, great and better viewfinder compared to its predecessors. If you are a serious photographer… this is a great mirrorless camera for you.

As an advanced amateur I am VERY impressed with this camera. Under good light conditions the detail captured with the 2470 Gmaster lens is astounding compared with the Horseman 4×5 with Schneider lenses which I used to use.

I have been shooting Sony for a decade now. For both professionals and serious photographers Sony is the best choice in the full frame mirrorless world. Their G Master glass is equal to or better than any other lenses with more being added regularly and on the A7RIV the combination is breathtaking. The ability with the 61 MP sensor to crop pictures down to small little areas and still have stunningly sharp details is amazing. Please do not take my word for it. Just rent one for a week if you have any doubts. The results speak for themselves. I couldnt be happier. Even the A9II, although it will be better for sports, does not entice me. After becoming used to having the high MP sensor there is no going back. And the improved general features such as the grip, EVF, buttons, dual higher speed SD card slots and the latest AFEyeAF tracking makes other cameras seem boring in comparison.

I shoot portraits, night sky, wildlife, architectures and streets. With the help of corresponding lenses, A7R4 can have excellent performance in almost every topics. Good feeling when holding. My first camera was in sony a7 series so Im pretty accustomed to sonys menu. I was a little bit worried about its highiso performance before purchase, but now I find its good enough. Therefore, I believe the next years a7m4 will show a even better highiso competence. If you have a high requirement, if you dont like to shoot landscape nor wildlife, or if you just dont have a good financial budget, you can wait for a7m4. Otherwise, a7r4 is the top among all the mirrorless fullframe cameras.

I took delivery of this camera about 4 weeks ago to replace Nikon 810. After 3 weeks between set ups there was a small spot on image. Turned out to be dust. Not sure how it got there Camera is a studio camera sits on Foba stand I have not taken lens off. Now there is lots dust all over around sensor and inside of lens I,m now cleaning it twice a day and most times I cant get all the spots off I feel Im just chasing them around. I do shoot mostly at f20 and backgrounds are usually a solid color making dust more prominent. But, I used the Nikon daily for 2 years and never once cleaned or touched the sensor manually. Something to be aware of if your going to use this camera for shooting products.

A fantastic camera and for me was worth the upgrade from the A7R III due to many factors such as Grip comfort, 61mp, allows larger crops and APSC files, and better focus tracking system, just to mention few.My couple issues are that Sony is fully aware of the crappy menu system and clunky touch screen it wouldve been nice to see these two things revamped and upgraded for camera body, cmon Sony its almost 2020. So Sony, if you truly listen to your customers, then fix it

There are a lot of megapixels crammed into this little camera, but there isnt much sacrifice involved. I havent had a chance to make video with it yet, but the body physical redesign with weather seals and more robust feel are very welcome. Im looking forward to spending more time with it, but very satisfied so far.

I come from a canon body and I always hesitated on converting into Sony because I invested in so much money on different canon lenses, but both Canon and Nikon has fell far behind on the fullsensor mirrorless body that it forced my hand to convert to Sony and I am not disappointed. The feel is like a true DSLR body, before the A7RIV, I didnt like the feel of the smaller body, but this version just feels right and I have big hands too. All my old canon lenses works fine with this Sony body thanks to the sigma Mc11. The autofocus works fine even with an extender of 1.4x that suppose to loose one stop of light. Even on my old canon body with the extender, the AF would not work properly but on this Sony body it did This camera is so smart with the eye autofocus, whatever I want to shoot I point at it and it starts tracking without any problem. It even has animal eye detection so if you shoot wildlife, this is for you. Especially with that larger buffer, you can hold down that shutter Button like a machine gun and it just keeps going and going. The images are sharp and beautiful with that crazy 61 mp, even on crop mode it is still one of the highest mp on the market. Low lighting didnt have any issues even with all that mp. The EVF is very sharp and beautiful with more than 5 million dots. Two things I didnt quite like is 1. the Touch screen is still fairly old tech, canon did a better screen so displaying the pictures looks better, the zoom doesnt take you all the way in, and touch and drag is smoother on the canon. 2. I did wish they put a door in front of the sensor when turned off, otherwise changing between lenses you will eventually get some dust particles in there. Other than that, its an amazing camera, I am now officially a Sony fanboy

I previously used the A7R2 for many years, which served me well, but had a number of issues that made it slow to use. The A7R4 has solved all those issues slow clearing of the buffer, slow previewing images, limited buffer, EVF lag, and in addition added many more useful features and extras, including advanced video settings that make it a joy to use. The shutter is highly improved, as is the EVF. I have nothing but good things to say about the handling, not to mention noticeable improvement in dynamic range. Kudos to Sony

I bought an open box A7Riv from Adorama and chose next day shipping. UPS misdirected the package so that it took two days to get to me. Adorama immediately refunded my entire shipping charge Great customer serviceThe camera came to me in pristine condition. Its not possible to distinguish it from new. I checked and it had 8 clicks on the shutter when I got it.I since taken a few thousand photos with it wildlife, sports, events, groups and portraits. It is a wonderful piece of kit. Its so great to be able to crop heavily on those bird shotsThe only thing that is a bit negative is that it does have more noise at high ISOs compared to my Sony A9. I expected that. But I wouldnt recommend it if you need to shoot at ISOs 12,800 and above on a regular basis because once you control the noise you wont be getting the resolution youre paying for with this camera. But if thats not where you are shooting most of the time. its amazing.

Paired with a G Master lens you are assured of great results. Low light performance is excellent. The colours when using 2470 GM are wonderful . The crop sensor 26mp works particularly well and comes in very useful. Most shots taken are perfect first time, a result that not many other cameras can achieve. The size and weight will now allow me to take this on holiday as my main camera. A 70200 f 2.8 GM balances well no need for a battery grip. I would however recommend a grip when using a a 200600 G. This is the best camera I have ever owned and a worthwhile step up from the excellent A7R mk3.

I sold my a7R3, which I thought was an exceptional camera, to get the a7R4. It is a definite step up. It has phenomenal resolution, a fast burst rate, and very good Auto Focus capabilities. Its thorough menu system allows you to program the camera to your specific needs. Sony has knocked it out of the park. Others will be working hard to equal the a7R4s capabilities.

  34. blank

    Kinhang

Some might argue that the A7R3 is already quite enough with its 42 MP and an even slight better dynamic range, however they dont take into account of Pixel Shift function. With 61MP and a tripod, this machine combines 16 images into one, producing 19008 x 12672 EFFECTIVE PIXEL, which gives 63×24 inch in 300 dpi. It might seem expensive, but with a huge discount I received, its a very budget choice for large format inkjet printing. Granted that Sony pays no bloody attention to the ergonomics, but it is still a very useful machine for professional work.

I call it a pro mirrorless because 99 of people will never need 61MP, and that crazy high resolution isnt without its drawbacks. Ive shot mine now for a few weeks and a few scenarios. I wouldnt do any serious paying work at higher than 6400 ISO, and at 6400 there is significant noise. I try my best to stay at 1600 or below. Strangely this has more noise than the Fuji GFX 50R. On the other hand, IBIS plus image stabilized lenses means I can handhold, for example, second at 70mm and have tack sharp focus, even with a moving subject. This allows me to use lower ISOs than I would in another camera. In good light, this camera cannot be beat. The resolution, image quality, clarity, are off the charts. Id definitely pick up this camera over the GFX 50 for studio work. I know… it pains me to say that. The sensor is simply better, and the lens lineup is superb. For action, it will work if you have enough light. The autofocus with tracking and eye AF are ridiculously fast and accurate in my opinion better than my D5.Long story short, unless youre shooting low light sports, this camera beats everything else out there at the moment.

This camera is probably the best mirrorless camera from Sony. 61 megapixels produce breathtaking photo quality. I use it with 85mm f18 prime for portraits. Have had it for about 2 weeks now. I got an open box for good discount and it came just like new. Very happy with the purchase.

Prior to this A7R IV, I had the A6500 and the A7RII. I was very happy with both cameras, so I was a bit reluctant to make the upgrade. I am so happy I did. Others have commented about focus, eye recognition, sharpness, etc., and I also give high marks to all features of this camera. The one thing you may not think about is using this powerful camera in APSC mode. Shooting in APSC mode on the A7RIV only drops the megapixel count to 26.2 MP which is higher than the A6500. Shooting in APSC mode makes my 70200 G a 105300. Customize one of your buttons to change from FF to APSC and you can quickly move in and out of APSC mode. In most situations this is now the only camera I carry. Go for itI You will not regret the upgrade.

Purchased as new but received it with a significantly scratched up mount. Either it was a used item or sony needs to do better quality check. This is not the first time Ive had this issue with BH, buying something new and receiving it looking like its been used or missing items that were supposed to be in the box.

This is my goto landscape camera because its pictures have great colour much improved on previous models, fabulous resolution and access to a great range of lenses. The files it produces give me a lot to work with in order to produce images exactly as I want. Also when a client wants the highest resolution I can offer, I can use this instead of medium format.

When you thought the A7R series couldnt get any better, it delivers once again with a 61Megapixel sensor. This camera is made for professionals and it really shows through the results. The body feels fantastic It actually feels like a real camera now. The previous versions werent as comfortable when it came to the grip and buttons. This camera will change your workflow. Im impressed with both the build and technology.

I bought this camera coming from the Canon system because I needed an auto focus system that was just flat out superior. My canon kept missing focus at a regular rate, and I needed a camera system that was much more reliable in terms of auto focus. The Sony a7R4 provides me everything that I need for portrait photography. I see a lot of folks saying that this camera is not for portraits, that its more of a landscape camera system. Because of the high megapixels its not as good for portraits because it introduces more noise at higher ISOs. I just havent found that to be true. I am a wedding photographer and have had no issues whatsoever with the Sony a7R4. It works perfect for all my portrait photo shoots. I love the flexibility of being able to significantly crop into a photo with that 61 megapixels of glorious resolution. I can see how one might be hesitant to get the a7R4 if they are already in the Sony system. But for me coming from the canon universe, It made more sense to just jump to the high end, most current version of the camera. Im not disappointed, I have no regrets, and I absolutely love it.

I started out with the A7 years ago then upgraded to the A7R II and was extremely happy with the image quality of both. Originally, I thought Id get the A7R III but took the plunge and splurged on the IV.Everything is better on the IV…focusing, speed, ergonomics, etc. One thing that I really love is the ability to switch back and forth on the fly from full frame to crop mode set up a custom button to do that. At 26MP the crop mode is incredible quality. I think the II had this but I never used it. In full frame mode, the 61MP sensor gives you a lot of freedom to crop in and recompose and the image quality superb.Ive toyed around with video and even shot a short video for a museum…I was impressed by the focusing and quality. Looks professional.Cant recommend the camera enough.

Ive been happy with my A7R III for a couple of years, but decided to make the leap. Its more than just 60 megapixels. The improved EVF, deeper grip, 15 stops of dynamic range, eye autofocus human and animal, etc. make this a serious tool as well as fun to use. And the results are excellent, as expected.

Dont let the negative reviews discourage you. Lots of those are from folks complaining about not being able to shoot at a lower resolution and all the issues of having to deal with big files. Like why did they buy a high resolution camera then Thats like buying a V12 truck and then cry about fuel economy, does that make any sense to you. The other group of complainers cry about the menu and controls being difficult to use. Like whats so difficult about it Seriously I never got this charade of Sony user interfaces being horrible, and I shoot Canon as well which is supposed to have the best interfaces of all camera manufacturers. Maybe Im a genius. Or maybe Im just patient and put some time into reading manuals and watching user videos. And finally dust in the sensor. I have months with the camera and still havent had to clean the sensor once, even after changing lenses outdoors. I do blast it with air sometimes but thats about it, I havent noticed anything particularly horrible about this, its like any other camera, just need to be careful and use common sense, dont swap lenses during a sand storm. Overall this is a magnificent camera at an excellent value, so dont listen to senseless negative reviews.

I purchased the mark IV as a preorder, I didnt use it much at first as I was use to using my mark III. I received the mark IV in September and first used it sometime in late October. Most of the pictures were out of focus, so I called Sony and the rep had me reset to factory settings, the focus seemed to work, but I didnt take any pictures. Again I went out to take pictures and again most pictures were out of focus. Apparently, I got a bad camera as it is taking pictures out of focus. Also, when I get it in focus it pushes it out when the shutter releases. I have or had 4 other Sony cameras a7, a7Rii, a7Riii and RX1Rii and not one of those would allow the shutter to engage when it was out of focus. So I called Sony again, this time they provided me with a free shipping label to send it to Precision Camera for repair. I was told by a Precision rep that they are waiting on a part before they could complete the repair. That was over a week ago and still waiting for that part. That part must be in high demand right Being that I was correct that I received a bad camera, you would think they would send me a new one Hopefully, one that has been checked out via QC. I still give this 3 stars and would still recommend the camera as my experience with Canon was much, much worse, the Canon camera never got fixed. It is a toss up between 2 or 3 stars, so lets say 2.5. So now I am without a camera for over 2 weeks so far, and so far it looks like it will be a lot longer. Just my experience. It would also be nice if the mark IV had the same new sensor protection option as the a9 Rii, ie a firmware update for a shutter close when camera is off.Im guessing that because of the large amount of preorders and to make their release date, quality control was pushed aside I think I will wait awhile when the next version comes out.

Absolutely love the improvements with the A7RIV. Its a bit heavier now and the improved grip is much appreciated. The focus capabilities are outstanding for very crips photos. Be sure to have a fast card because these file sizes are HUGE especially when shooting raw. The 61mp come in handy when using crop scenarios. Also bc of the fact that its a 61mp camera there is a lot of improved lens versatility with super 35.

With 60 megapixels, this camera is an absolute beast when it comes to resolution. Sony has improved the feel and ergonomics of the body so that it is the most comfortable yet. If youre looking for uncompromising image quality, this camera is it. Be warned, the file sizes of the raw images are huge around 100MB each. You may need to upgrade your storage situation.

I have been using this camera for a few months now and love it. I switched from Canon to Sony and it hasnt disappointed me so far. The autofocus never seems to miss. However, you must know that the auto eye detect focus struggles a bit if rest of the face is heavily covered. It seems to handle well in cold well below the specs as well. The menu and settings may be a little bit of a learning curve coming from a different brand but once you get a hand of it, you can fully customize all the buttons

The Sony a7RIV is an amazing camera. This thing is light years beyond my previous camera the Nikon D7200. I know its not really a fair comparison, but this camera and features were everything I was looking for in my next camera. I have definitely noticed a higher quality overall shot using this camera. To be fair the camera is just a tool, and its up to the photographer to understand how to use their camera and get a good usable shot. I have found that using this camera has made it easier for me to get sharper images of my subjects

I have used this camera for nearly a month. It is a great camera in general. Battery life is not bad. The auto focus is much better than my Lumix S5. Resolution with Sigma 100400, Sony 85mm 1.8, Sony FE 20mm 1.8 is astounding. But I hate the blurry screen from Sony which is even worse than a 1000 USD camera.

A7R4 is great. I bought it online for a price of an A7R3. Following are the Pro 1. Hight resolution images even when you have to crop the raw. 2. Have 2 SDXC II slots for fast recording. 3. able to use my existing APSC lens at 26MP. 4. Wireless tethering no more wire or tethering cable needed. 5. Eye AF is fast and snappy. Con 1. slow buffer clearing for continuous shooting. 2. more expensive card for better performance.

From someone stepping up from a Nikon beginner D3300 it made a huge difference. Yes Virginia, dollars and mega pixels do make a difference. The resolution difference reminds me of the difference from a 35mm SLR vs a medium format camera back in the film days. This could compete with a medium format camera. The only complaint I have is what they call touch screen enabled is NOT what I would call it. Dont expect touch screen like what you get from a cell phone. No selecting menu items on the screen like you would on a phone. It is pretty limited and not worth using. Otherwise, it is a great camera.

This camera is awesome, finally Sony hit all the marks. Ergonomics, menus, sensor quality, it is all here.As someone that has been in the A7 lineup since the first A7s, I can tell you that every camera series has improved, but this is perfect, and a great place for people thinking about still making the jump to land.Is it worth it if you already have a A7R Mark III, I think so, all of the comfort features are greatly improved and you get an amazing 62MP of sensor quality.

Unreliable autofocus, locks out many menus and optionsbogs down while writing the buffer to a memory card. The resolution and EVF are spectacular but this camera is halfbaked in my opinion. To bad this camera doesnt live up to all Sony s marketing hype . I worked hard learning how to use this camera but in the end i didnt think it was worth 3500 .The auto tracking did lock on reliably as well as the metering was at time over exposed due to back even with the small spot . Perhaps i just got a bad copy but anyways B and H were great about allowing me to return it for a full refund.

As an owner of Sony mirrorless cameras since their inception, the A7R Iv is a real game changer. For me, it serves all of my needs. I shoot both landscape as well as wildlife. Image quality is excellent. Great for beautiful landscapes Resolving power is superb.. The ergonomics are better than my previous nex 7, A7, and A7Rii. Autofocus is better and more responsive. Love the crop lense feature at 26 megapixels. Nice for bird and wildlife. Eye focus works well. Build quality is overall improved from previous models.

This is a pretty amazing camera. The files from the 61MP sensor are super detailed with great dynamic range and low noise. Ergonomics are also improved over earlier generations of Sony bodies, although I never had issues with the A7III or A9. The viewfinder is great, and a big improvement from the previous Sony bodies I mentioned. My only real nitpick is its lagging some features that are present in its competition, for example Id prefer a flip out screen instead of tilt and the touchscreen is pretty useless. That said, overall its a great camera, I just have to learn to take my time and get the most out of it, as a side effect of having 61MP is that youll see any potential camera shake more in the final image.

Just got my A7r4 and A9ii .. I love both but the image quality of the a7r4 is top notch. If your a portrait or landscape photographer this camera is a must have. It has all the features of a great Sports and wildlife camera as well. In a couple years every camera will be just like the a7R4 . The only thing that could possibly be better is it could be a tad bit bigger .. but thats probably because Ive been lugging around a 1dx ii for a couple years . Honestly I loved canon for so long but I am kicking myself for not switching soon. Canon cameras are like a Apple 2e and Sony is the MacBook Pro .

This camera does what I need it to do provides me with much better cropability when I need it that does not visibly degrade the image, and gives me better autofocus tracking capabilities than the A7R3t, all while providing me with better ergonomics. I can understand powerusers complaints of buffering issues, but hey, 61MP will DO that. I have been a Canon user since film days, starting with the F1n when I was a photojournalist in the US Army. More recently, Ive been using the 5D MkIV. Ive been shooting more and more video lately and was not getting the results I wanted with the 5D. The autofocus was hit or miss no matter how I tweaked it and the massive 4K files were pretty useless. I had been hearing good things about the Sony mirrorless cameras, so I took the plunge and purchased the a7R IV and a converter to use my Canon lenses on it.I was impressed with the still photo performance using adapted Canon lenses, but autofocus did not work in video mode. So I picked up a Sony 24105 to see if I got good results shooting video. I spent this past weekend shooting a modern dance concert series with the Sony camera and lens. Lighting ranged from very contrasty to extremely low. The autofocus never lost track of the dancers during the entire 35 minute performance. Video quality was excellent, even though I was shooting at higher ISO than I would have dared with the 5DIm sold on Sony. Im packing up all my Canon glass and purchasing all Sony lenses. The attached picture was shot using a Canon mount Sigma 150600 Contemporary zoom lens using a Sigma MC11 mount converter and is heavily cropped the original .jpg is over 25 megabytes.

I thought long and hard about what camera to upgrade to now that there are so many nice mirrorless cameras on the market. I liked the new Canon but when I weighed all the pros and cons… the Sony A7Riv just came out on top. I have used it on a couple dedicated photography trips now and am very happy with my purchase. I pair this to the new tamron 70300 zoom and it does a very respectable job. Eventually… I plan to get a 200600 zoom but for now, the smaller lightweight tamron has decent reach and is a breeze to carry. I especially like the ability to program the A7Riv. It allows me to set it up so all the settings I need to change on the fly are quick and simple. I also like the improved grip over the A7Riii. This camera is so much nicer to hold. With the previous version… it was too cramped to hold comfortably but the Riv gives just enough extra grip for my right hand to make it comfortable to shoot even extended wildlife sessions. Ive bought 4 of my cameras from Best Buy now and try my best to support the local brick and mortar shops rather than just mailorder. We all need to remember buying local means jobs and tax revenue for our local towns.

Im a Sony user since 2015.Ive had the A7R II and still have the A7R III and two A6000 these were reliable camera bodies with which Ive traveled numerous times, used in diverse weather conditions and I never had an issue. The A7R IV, which I bought beginning of December 2019, was not used often over the four month period of possession since I switch workplace around that time and was busy with the new working environment.I took a total of 1545 photos until the sensor suddenly was nonfunctional. It had an issue on March 18th 2020 while I was taking photos of the dusk view looking out of my apartment.I tried resetting the camera settings, ejecting the battery and leaving the body for 24 hours. Nothing changed the fact that the sensor was not receiving any light with or without a lens. The back display screen and the EVF were still functional I was able to access the menu, view the photos, change settings. But neither the back display nor the EVF were showing a preview it was completely black. It seemed like the sensor was not receiving or interacting with light.Ive send it in for repairs but due to the current situation of workfromhomestayathome, they told me it would take a few weeks until they can start to repair it. This is fine given the current circumstances.I was surprised that from one frame to the other the camera sensor would suddenly malfunction given the fact that it was a as good as new camera.

This camera has insane resolution with good lenses. Just an example if you crop 6MP out of the frame you still get very good picture and effectively extends a range of your telephoto by factor of 3. But it is not all that you get with this camera. Because both slots are UHSII you can setup one for JPG and other for RAW and it allows you shoot medium or small on JPG but still get what I call negative or full resolution RAW. This way you can spray and pray all you want, quickly review your jpegs and process RAW of selected shots.AF is fast and accurate, tracking is great and 10 FPS shutter is more than enough. Love this camera.

This is really a great camera. There are a few quirks that will hopefully be improved when Sony does its expected Firmware upgrade but it works great when you get it going. The quality of the photos will blow you away. Its important to understand though that the diffraction limit of this camera, due to its 61MP FF sensor means that you really need to shoot quality glass that is F5.6 or better for Color, and about F8 for BW. Of course you can use F8 lenses, but due to the physics of light, you will not be able to really take advantage of the extremely high density of the sensor. If you do, your photos will still look great, but the higher you go in your Fstop the more it will look equivalent to cameras with lower Mega Pixels.

Traded up from my A7Riii and have to say after having it now for 4 days.. its a very worthy update even though my now used A7Riii will soon be in the hands of someone at a heavy discount. Resolution with Sony GM glass and especially the 24mm 1.4 GM and the 135 GM is astounding.. ergonomics and even something as small as the sound of the new shutter are highly welcome. The autofocus is so fast and the tracking is so good yes slightly slower than the A9 but at 61 Mega pixels is outrageous at this price range. Set a custom button to switch to APSC for further Focal Length reach at 26 megapixels and you have practically two cameras in one.. so you can carry fewer lenses and still get great resolution and AF at 61Mp and 26MP.. Note however, that the 61 mega pixel resolution will be degraded at ISOs above base ISOs so keep it whenever possible below 800 ISO.. this camera is an absolute monster when you have good light, fast glass and if you provide your own light via flash or strobes in very low light. Get the A7iii when shooting in very low light without a light source..

In the short time that Ive had this camera all I can say is wow. For me it was worth the price. I previously owned a Nikon D7500 and wanted to switch to a full frame mirrorless. The quality of the photos are phenomenal. It was a bit of a learning curve switching, but I feel like its fairly simple to use. I paired the body with a 24mm G master lens and Im not disappointed with the results. Im by no means a professional photographer. Im a hobbyist so Im sure there are more things for me to learn to fully utilize this 61mp beast. But for now I am getting great quality pictures. I really like the shortcut buttons feature and that you can save your settings depending on the scene youre trying to shoot.

It is a great camera. Best follow focus ever. Use it for very active grand daughters and it works perfectly. Virtually every shot is tack sharp, no matter how fast they move. Camera also is ergonomically perfect. Finally, large sensor makes cropping easy to get good shots, even with 40 mm walk around lens.

Having moved from the A7iii, the learning curve was short. Having the ability to crop a 61mp photo is great, but the ability to have the extended reach in crop mode is better. All my lenses now have 1.5 times the reach all with 26MP.Yes the RAW files are large, but I have a custom desktop thats primarily for photo work, so the processing power or file storage isnt an issue. I have owned the camera for about a month now and used it during wedding photoshoot as well as several headshotportrait sessions.Despite my not being completely used to the new camera yet, not a single one out of the thousands of images turn out to out of focus. Autofocus in general and Eye AF are incredibly fast and accurate. Eyeglasses do not prevent accurate focusing unless ambient light is really low or glasses are really dirty.I have used a camera with the Sony 85mm f1.8, Sony 70200mm f2.8, and Tamron 2875mm f2.8. In all cases, autofocus is incredibly fast. And resolving power is sufficient for the camera and I have seen no softness at all.The resolution is incredible. You can see every single dust particle on the dark suit or missed hair on the grooms chin. In most cases, this amount of detail is not needed and demands a lot of editing. Yet freedom of cropping can come handy for wedding photographers when you can not get in perfect position fast enough.Similarly, wildlife photographers would appreciate the extra resolution as we all know animals never where we want them to be. Autofocus works fast enough for birds in flight and work very well on dogs in dim light. In general, Im very pleased with my camera. But new buyers should be conscious of their actual photographic needs. I would strongly recommend the camera to wedding and wildlife photographers but you must be prepared for editing and storing very large files.

I own the A7R II, III and the IV. Although many reviewers say that the difference between the III and IV is not huge, I ended up buying the IV due to its snappier response, higher resolution and small improvements here and there.I quite often reframe my photos taken in a horizontal composition. The II and III were great due to the high resolution. Now with the IV, I have a little bit more room to do this.I have a high end workstation and a lot of storage so that I do not mind the larger file sizes. For slower machines, the larger file sizes definitely can be a slow down issue of your workflow. The only thing I wish Sony would add to existing R models is the ability to choose the RAW file size. L for maximum resolution, medium and small. Shooting in crop mode is a workaround but this changes the focal length which is not always what you want. Now that I have the III and IV with the newer larger batteries, I might end up selling the II due to its slow performance and low battery life. I dont have to carry around two types of batteries anymore. One thing Sony did for the IV, making the focus point appear in red or white, this should also be implemented onto a firmware update for the A7R III. The grey color on the III is something I really dislike..

The camera shoots very nice images. Colors are very good. Nothing really to compare it to in compactness with 60MP. I will say you can get better results if you shoot RAW using Capture 1. The eye autofocus is great, works 90 of the time. The menu system is very awkward, and frustrating to work within. Just formatting cards requires many steps. Why no touch back screen is confounding for such an expensive body. I find the large G master lenses too large for a small body. IMO there should be a smaller set of native auto focus lenses. The buffer speed and closed system during buffer is another issue. Overall, I like it, but not keen on investing yet into the system. Love it, no. Will I sell my D5 or D850 yet, no. Not fully convinced until the overall industry matures and I see what the others can bring.

Firstly I want to say this camera is absolutely epic and the results can be also. With enthusiasm I bought it and upgraded from a A series.. I didnt realize what a leap it was until I tried tracking wildlife and sorting through the plethora of options and hundreds of dud shots 1 week in I thought I had made a massive mistake, 2 weeks in and I thought the equipment was faultyincompatible.. 4 weeks in and many many test shots, seeking advice and forum surfing, I concluded its amazingly capable and only limited by the owner. That said I am now taking the best pictures I have ever taken Highly recommended alternate is A9ii if your more a wildlife focussed kinda person… This is highly competent but as an all rounder.. landscape, portraits, street, astro, wildlife and sport.

Before I give my review about this camera, I have to mention that Im a Sony A7III owner, and also a D810 owner. I use the Nikon D810 as my event photocamera and the A7III for Movies and Photos as well. Now, since I invested into Sony lenses and felt like its time to upgrade to the A7RIV, I did the move. But since I got it, only 2 days past and here are the main issues with it Does not focus properly in Low light Im not talking about focusing in dark night scenarios. Im talking about focusing in well lit conditions where A7III and D810 has no issues. Sony claims has made improvements with the grip. Well, not unless you buy the Battery grip for this camera. Its still very front heavy when having a 2470mm or 85mm Gmaster on it. Itll be great to have a deeper grip. 10 FPS is great but only if the focus can keep up with it. Experimented with different Fucus techniques AFC, AFA, etc, for some reason even when the focus is locked on the eye or simply an object that doesnt move, Youll still have only 2 of the 10 pics locked. Finally, THIS IS NOT A CAMERA FOR EVENT PHOTOGRAPHERS. Im a part time Wedding, Event photographer. Since mirrorless cameras dont have a way of using the AF beam coming from Speedlights that works perfect in DSLRs these cameras would not event be useful for events. Only 2530 of my images could be useful since on the rest the focus is way off. For instance, it takes a D810 a couple of miliseconds to lock the focus, where an a7rIV will still be hunting. So what is the use of this camera on low lit events, I cant turn on an LED to ruin the vibe on the dance floor only because I want to take a picture, Or ruin a moment when I want to take a candid shot.

I own a pair of a7rIVs and an a9II I dont like to change lenses on a shoot, unless I could close the front curtain. Preordered. Received mine on Friday the 13th. I am still adjusting to the camera but I can give my initial thoughts. First off its definitely a big improvement over the A7R3. Not life changing but since I have owned the two A7Rs prior to this I can say its the best to date period. Sony listens to the photographers and makes the upgrades. They didnt chose to upgrade everything requested but they definitely put some thought into what they did upgrade. Yes I am am glad I bought the camera with no regrets. One suggestion I would give is get the 128 GB cards if you can. The pixel shift can eat up a card really quick. A uncompressed RAW file is 117MB. Mix a full day of shooting and add pixel shift several times you will be changing cards. Overall performance is just better. Handling is much better. I noticed the image quality was better immediately. Definitely better images than I expected. I do it all from landscape to portrait and so far all I can say is that it is a beast. Totally happy with the purchase. Only negative right now is Adobe RAW Beta for the camera profile and its slower to perform than I like but they will get that updated soon. Always buy what you can afford and if your considering this camera and can afford it you wont be sorry. Also try to shoot with Gmaster Lens they will give you the best results.

As a mostly afield action shooter I debated on purchasing another a9ii or the a7r4. In the end I went with the a7r4 and set it up to primarily handle afield portraits and landscape shots. In a pinch it can handle some action shots if needed. With GM glass the detail of these images is amazing and because of the image size you can easily crop. If you want more reach move to apsc mode and you can still crop a bit.

I have used canon cameras all my life starting with an AE1 most recently a 5Dmkiv with L glass. I never expected I would enjoy a mirrorless mostly because of losing the visual viewfinder for an EVF. I bought this a7RIV based on reviews and a small amount of time holding one in a store. It only took a day or twos use of the camera to be sold. The big advantages over my DSLR easier to take photographs This is a big win Some reasons are Great tracking continuous autofocus, visual indication of DOF, visual indication of potential overexposure, and ability to visually evaluate the level of detail when chimping at 100 could never see detail on a DSLRs back screen, particularly when outside. easier to hold steady without mirror slap or shutter opening. lighter and smaller. Also a good win. My previous DSLR with 24105 walkaround was a real bother to carry around and hold up. much sharper both body and lenses. I probably dont need all the sharpness im getting but its really fun to see and the high cropability does support my more relaxed shooting style. The disadvantages ive found The EVF does show obvious artifacts when imaging bright, detailed, high contrast scenes. Im learning to look around them. battery life isnt as good. I can get 4 hours of shooting with a lot of reviewing in the EVF on a battery thats sufficient. cannot figure out how to get the blinkie overexposure warning even close to the raw clipping point. Its so conservative its basically useless to me now. occasionally the individual color histograms show clipping when lightroom processed raws do not havent figured out how to press the lens release button with the same hand as is holding the camera facilitating changing lenses while standing.Allinall Ive very happy with this camera. If you need the 61MP, this is arguably the best camera for the price point, hitting well above its weight class.I own an a9ii and while the a7rivs autofocus isnt on the same level, its still fantastic, especially considering its 61MP sensor. The camera is small, light, and powerful. The images it produces are out of this world. The IQ and color produced are unmatched in a full frame camera, and its dynamic range puts to shame even some medium format cameras.I wouldnt say it replaces medium format, but the a7riv comes close.

Upgraded from the 7R2, huge improvement. Great focus. This camera is very user friendly I have been shooting with Sony for 10 years, if you are familiar with the Sony menus you will not have any trouble getting familiar with this camera. Great battery life, the upgraded grip is much better then what the 7r2 had, it feels more secure in your hand.

had the old a7r2 for 3years ,reliable and works well, but slow. old one is 60100g lighter. got this cam for 60M I like APS c cam for it extra reach and lighter body . This cam works 3 cam in one for me . 1st is I can use 60M max resolution for serious work . 2nd for scouting wide animals shoot.which 28M give me good final quality images .That I cannot do with my old cam. 3rd travel light cam which I can bring with a small lens and light gears even my kid can take pictures with. I rediscover the extremely compact 16mm50mm kit lens which so well design for compactness which give me very good color and contrast image .I remember sharpness is not everything which u can get a best composed image to show,. Pro..faster work flow due to improved menu .wish it has 2 more programmable buttons on left side next to C3 …more accurate and faster focus than the old ,even with adapted lens …color and contrast perceivable better than old cam …batteries last longer 40 than old cam. Con..AEL button easily activated by mistakes ….price 2030 higher on lens but improvement is not 30 better than the old cam . …screen is not top class, function limited rotation limited which it can rotate. …price on the high side.

This camera has definitely given me back my photographic spark. The image quality is superb and the build is excellent. I am still getting use to it in studio because it is a little slow on the firing but I only did one shoot so I will see if I just get use to it. Other than that I think I am going to be a Sony fan for a while.

I shoot portraits, weddings, landscapes, so the a7r4 made a lot of sense for me. I honestly wasnt going to upgrade from my a7r3, but after trying it out at a Sony store, I felt that the af, ergonomics and quality of life improvements made the upgrade worth it.Shooting in studio, the AF was a lot more accurate than my R3, didnt have any missed shots. Shooting landscapes, the 16shot pixel shift function created a gorgeous 240mp shot with phenomenal amounts of detail even to the point of being able to crop a 200mm frame shot on 28mm, and still have it be print worthy.Ergonomics are fantastic, feels way more solid of a camera than its predecessor. Still falls short of Nikon and Canon dslr ergonomics, but for a Sony, its excellent.Definitely recommend this as an extremely solid flagship pick for literally every kind of photography commercial, action, portraits, landscapes, you name it.

One of the best digital cameras Ive ever owned And Ive owned many in the past 30 years Ive tried the Nikon Z Mirrorless camera and can honestly say that this Sony Alpha camera beats it hands down Sony has done a remarkable job with the engineering of this camera. I havent discovered anything negative to share about it yet. Do your homework on this camera, I believe you will be very happy if you purchase it.BTW, if you were a Nikon DSLR owner like I was, you can purchase an adapter to utilize your lens for this camera

The Sony A7RIV is the best camera Ive used to date This is considering it main purpose, Photo Quality However when it comes to video, its missing features but its very useful for hybrid shooters, for sports where capturing that extra frame is needed, the 10 FPS and other features are great, but for main use I would go with the A9II or A9 for the budget.ProsPhoto QualityPhoto ProcessingFocus FeaturesConsVideo Rate, no 4K at 60pVideo Output, limited at 8 bitBig Raw Files, no Small or Medium optionsOverall You really cant go wrong with this camera, Highly recommended. This is my third generation Sony Mirrorless camera, the second Full Frame and I couldnt be happier.Sony has the edge in Mirrorless technology and it just gets better and better. The camera and corresponding lenses have elevated my game and given me more opportunity to challenge my photography with new subject matter. With the extremely quick AF and amazingly huge 61MP RAW files, you have the opportunity to crop heavily in the frame or in post edit and not lose any quality because of the size of the data files. The menus are extremely detailed because Sony actually listens to its user feedback. I highly recommend searching some of the photographers with similar subjects that you may wish to shoot who post setup for the A7Riv as there is much detail in the setup that you might be missing.Ive had this body for a month after trial testing this against the A9ii and after creating a comprehensive spreadsheet of both bodies opted for this one as the best value for my needs.I will begin collecting donations for the A9ii as they each have their own special feature sets and you should spec them both prior to your investment. The resolution on videos is superb, the lightning fast AF amazing, the shutter speeds can fill a memory card if youre not careful, so suggest you use the Sony Tough cards, theyre worth the investment.Im am pleased with the direction Sony is going with this technology.

I like to shoot with lens setting as wide opened. I like to shoot with low angles to exaggerate the poses of a model. A few year ago, with my Canon 5D mark IV, I typically kneed down or lied on the floor using optical view finder to take the shot. I like to shoot movements, I have to use the backbottom focus because of the focus system cannot keep up. With my Sony A7RIII, I relied on the back screen using eyefocus and moving the focus point to the models eye if the eyefocus fails to check the eye. It is much better but it is still slow if eyefocus is not working. With the firmware updated of Sony A7RIII, eyefocus is much better but the object checking is NOT working. So I did not change my workflow much. When I saw the initial preview of the A7R IV at the release announcement , the improvement of the eyefocus teased me to preorder this camera. I have only two model shoots so far, I am super happy with this camera with eyefocus and object tracking. Now I can just point and shoot, even in a dark urban environment see the uploaded photo. It really improves my workflow and let me to catch the Kodak moment.PRO focus game changing I dont own a A9 61MP Yes, I do crop of the pictures a lot and I like shoot movements. However 42MP is good enough for me too new EFV looks better but not significant.CON The grip I dont feel much improvement and it is still uncomfortable for me. I ordered vertical grip but it costs another 50 extra comparing to A7RIII for no new features Navigation of the camera manual system is still outdated. No Smart phone like interface.

I had the a7RII for almost 4 years and it was just starting to feel a little slow particularly when tethering in the studio. All the updates I wanted are here. For a 10year pro switching from Nikon DSLRs, the Sony a7R IV is the first mirrorless camera that satisfied me as an upgrade path I subsequently bought a a7 III as a second body and I think the a7R IV is way beyond it in terms of autofocus, body, and ability for custom menus and buttons. For the limited time I kept a Nikon D7200 as a second body, not being able to immediately see the photo in the viewfinder after taking a photo made the D7200 unusable. The electronic viewfinder EVF does take some getting used to, but now I see how much better it actually is. The large, very large, files of the a7R IV do slow down my editing process especially when using a 4K monitor connected to even my now latest and most powerful available 16 MacBook Pro. The eye detect autofocus works very well with most of the 5 lenses I have for the camera, only the Sony 90mm f2.8 G Macro has trouble getting the eye tack sharp in AFC, other lenses I can leave the camera in AFC for nearly everything and it works great. I have large hands and the a7R IV feels fine, big enough to get a grip on and feel like a solid tool. Do not hesitate to make the transition to mirrorless cameras if you are thinking about it. Better to be ahead of the curve than behind it in upgrading. Being a Nikon loyalist, I have no regrets now even 6 months later leaving Nikon, as they still have few native mirrorless lenses, and still no body with 2 card slots. I also switched to Capture One 20 for Sony and quickly learned a new editing workflow in that app. Sony has great third party lens support from Sigma and even Tamron. Again, I would not hesitate as a pro commercial photographer to make the a7R IV your main body. Also, dust on the sensor has been virtually a nonissue and 25 of my work is rural land real estate in the deserts of New Mexico. Hit the sensor every now and then when you change lenses with an air blaster, and you will be fine.

I switched from the canon 5D1Ds series a couple years ago to the sony a7riii and that camera was far superior at the time to anything else on the market. This camera is even better than the a7riii in terms of AF, ergonomics and speed. The only downfall is that you may notice more noise at higher iso due to the higher pixel count on the sensor, it is always a trade off. Still if you know what to expect and can control the light, you will get great results. I will also say that the high resolution demands the better quality glass as well.

Its a great camera, everything I need weather sealed, phenomenal image quality. But the file sizes are huge 122MB which makes them unusable for people who travel. Even if you have a minimum of 16GB ram youll experience lag which is counter productive to the process. 61MP is overkill, and shooting portraits, clients start noticing their skin pores and it turns them off.I doubt I will buy it unless Sony introduces lossless sRaw and mRaw files. This camera will only suit a few people.

Moving from decades in Nikon land to Sony has proven somewhat of a challenge but after about two weeks I think I am getting the hang of the EVF and menus. Still, straight out of the box, the results were spectacular. Ive never had a Sony camera, so I cant compare this to other cameras or versions in their line, but if you are thinking of making the switch, this camera will amaze you. Im coming from a Nikon d850, D3 and D500. I tried a Sony A7III and it was ok but this camera is what made me switch from the Nikon system. The details are incredible. I take lots of wildlife photos as well as portraits.Pro1. High Megapixel allows a ton of work in the post especially cropping. This is useful for wildlife photos when you are limited by the lens. High pixels is useful for me because I do a lot of composited images.2. Autofocus is better than a7III. It is substantially better than Z6. The accuracy is very reliable for most situations. The only time it failed was on the fastest of my four dogs. It works for most wildlife situations. For sports, I would still recommend the A9.3. The body is a huge step up from previous generations.4. EVF is incredible at 5.76m resolution. It also allows me to see the exposure live.5. Compact, light, powerful and incredibly sharp.6. Low Cost for this quality and performance is insane. This competes with the medium format hybrids from Fujifilm and Hasselblad.Cons1. low light focus still isnt perfect. By this, I mean I had a very fastmoving dog running around in a cloudy evening. Invest in a good Speedlite or strobe. The ISO does pretty well for most situations.2. You better have a fast computer. These are very large files if you shoot raw. I purchased a diskless raid array3. Im still not 100 on Sony colors. It appears underexposed and less on the magenta and yellow. I will say this is not oversaturated like the A7III.4. The body still feels cheap next to the NIKON Z7. It almost feels hollow but light. I realize it is still an improvement on a7iii. LCD Resolution of 1.4M doesnt cut it in 2020. It also lacks pinch zoom and touchable lcd. This is a very critical review and in spite of all of it, it is still the best allaround professional mirrorless camera on the market.

Pros I choose this camera for its versatility, you can shoot in fullframe or APSC 61 and 26 megapixels respectively. The focus tracking is very good. I was initially put off by the 61 megapixels but for shooting landscapes its brilliant, has lots of detail, and the compressed raw file size although big is easily manageable.Cons it can only do one thing at a time ie if its writing to the card you cant switch from fullframe to APSC if you are focusing you cant switch from fullframe to APSC. The menu system although initially quite daunting you do get used to it, But it could be improved.

This is my second copy of the camera. My first response to the other copy was disappointment at the apparent high noise at relatively low ISOs. However, a second chance for me, not the camera has convinced me of the value of this high MP camera. The noise is not what I first thought and can be controlled either by using lower ISOs or in post. It is basically fine up to even 6400 with good light. The cropping ability and improved autofocus have sealed the deal for me.

I also used it on Sigma 500mm4 Sports lens for Canon. With and without the 1.4X extender, the combo work well for BIF shots. If you are a sports andor wildlife shooter, attach a 100400GM and prepare to be amazed by the detail in your images. Punching into APSC mode still a 26MP file gives you an effective 150600 mm lens. The Sony 90mm f2.8 macro also pairs beautifully with this body. I prefer the 24 MP a7iii or a9 for portraits, street, landscape, etc. as the files are so much smaller and, for my needs at least, the additional resolution of the a7iv is necessary you, of course, may love the extra resolution in these genres as well.

I upgraded from the A7R2 for usage in my studio work. I will acknowledge that I had sharp images with the R2. Nonetheless, the R4 has been a joy to use in many ways. Auto focusing now is almost 100 dead on, with relatively few soft shots. And I can tell the camera which cornea to choose. Second, the level of detail in skin and fabric is subtlety but definitely better. No matter how much I crop the shot in post, I can really appreciate the finer details in resolution. It works so well with Capture One Pro and the tethering time is quick given the USBC higher speed cable. True, the files are large and I had to upgrade a tethering computer and some USB thumb drives to get higher speeds ports, but this camera will be all I need for years to come. Very happy.

I would highly recommend to research this camera before buying to first understand its strengths high MP gives greater crop flexibility vs its weaknesses high MP gives noisier images as ISO moves up. It is not the ideal camera for those night images where one thinks to compensate by bumping ISO to extremely high levels. On the other hand taking images of landscapes or wildlife from afar, this camera has no current competition. What impressed me most was the richness of the colors in images when I compared with another Sony a6000 and a Nikon d5600.

I have gone through A7R, RII, RIII and just upgraded to the RIV. To get the most out of this particular model, the lenses you plan to use on it are very important. I have been using the Sigma 35mm 1.2 Art and am blown away by the amount of details this combination produces. Bigger grip is a much welcomed addition along with the slightly larger body, the camera feels much more balanced. The autofocus on this thing is absolutely amazing, the RIII was already very good, but IV has an amazing combination of speed and precision. Still testing the waters in terms of video, but I expect most people who are considering the RIV are more image focused folks. There is an upgrade coming from RIII, but not considerable to be honest. Still, for a professional, this was totally worth the upgrade.

I love the Sony A7RIV system for its outstanding performance as well as its small size. This camera is well suited for almost any type of photography. This is clearly the system I take with me on my travels because there are so many lens options, I can fit into my carry on baggage. There are so many small sized wide to mid tele manual focus prime lenses that I own that are now offered in the E mount or for which there are appropriate adapters. Many of the newer E mount lenses are able to electronically communicate with the camera making it simple to accurately focus. The menus for the most part are intuitive to use.

I was hoping for my Holy Grail nature photography camera one camera that was perfect for landscapes and perfect for birds in flight. The Sony marketing had suggested this would be the one. I found the expanded dynamic range sensor to be super. Put away that graduated ND filter for landscapes Photographing high contrast birds, such as eagles in full sun provides detailed unblown out whites and low noise dark areas. Great However, I found the autofocus less than impressive, but perhaps it was unfair that I was comparing it to a sony A9 The A9 blows it away with birds in flight. The A7RIV auto focus struggled with low contrast movement, like most every other camea. Most concerning was loss of live view viewfinder functionality at 10 fps. Says so right in the instruction manual. Oh. So, its really a 5 fps camera. Just like my 5 year old Canon. I admit I did not use the Sony long enough to feel totally comfortable with it. Part of the problem is that there is a lag from the time you press the shutter until the shutter trips. A very short lag, but a lag…and if you are old school like me and used to catching the peak action rather than pressing the shutter and holding it down and hoping the high frame rate will make the capture, it is disconcerting. I realize this is a mirrorless issue and not unique to this camera. So, I think it is a superior landcape camera. For wildlife, not so much.

As everyone knows, this is a highly capable, pro level body. With 61 megapixels the detail is amazing and noise is held to a minimum. Autofocus is among the very best. However, the way the body feels in hand definitely was a let down. It is a bit larger than the third gen bodies which is great, but if feels really plasticy and cheaply made. The thumb dial is mushy and feels cheap. The power switch around the shutter release button is made of cheap injunction molded plastic instead of metal like the third gen bodies. Considering this body cost almost double that of my A7iii, I expected it to feel at least as good. Instead, it feels as though a huge amount of it is made of plastic where metal should have been used. I expected greatness but received a compromised body. So much of the enjoyment of photography is the actual process of using ones gear to capture the images and I am now deliberating if the amazing sensor and autofocus is worth the cheap body.

I love the details this camera output. You essentially get two cameras in one. One full frame and APSC Mode at 26mp for the extra reach or the option to use APSC lens for lightweight kit. The shutter is super quiet. I cant even notice it and the ergonomics of the grip is much more comfortable to hold.

This Is an excellent camera with very high resolution. The camera has great dynamic range and the raw files are easy to edit. The new features provided an excellent upgrade over the R2. This results in the photographer having to take more care and accuracy focusing their image.

This is the second Sony camera purchase Ive made and it has not disappointed I love the tones it produces, along with all the other technical aspects Ive come to expect from Sonys. I also shoot medium format and love the ability to change the ratio in camera to match my other files. Overall its a superb piece of equipment to add to my arsenal.

I have really found this camera is 2 in 1, a great landscape general purpose camera, and in crop mode a killer 27 megapixel birding camera. EVF is amazing and light years ahead of my old A7R2. The fit and feel is better and the Z battery is unstoppable. One caveat is USE GOOD GLASS, any imperfections in cheaper glass will be very evident in your images

If you dont own an A7R3 and have or want to purchase GMor equivalent glass, the A7R4 is generally worth the premium. There are some caveats from my experience with 2 copies of this camera. Pixel shift PS did not work correctly on the first copy and is better but still flawed in the second copy. 4 shot PS is equal if not worse than the A7R3. 16 shot PS has artifacts that make the photos of glass buildings look awful. Instead of a shiny surface on glass, it looks a little more like etched glass. There is also less contrast in the 16 shot PS. Certain surfaces including the sky look more like a grid of dots and these flaws are apparent even if you are not pixel peeping. Edges of things are very soft. Too many PS artifacts to mention here. OverallPS on the A7R4 does not live up to the hype.Using GM glass, the 60MP really shines. Truly awesome quality. Images do seem a little more noisy as others report but I consider this minor. The shutter is significantly improved now and does not cause vibration induced flaws in the images.Focus accuracy is better on the A7R4, but still not good enough for challenging subjects like BIF. Using the 1.4TC, focus accuracy drops dramatically, even in bright conditions with apertures 46.3. Using the TC, there were far too many frames where nothing is in focus. The focus algorithm gravitates to the most contrasty element of the frame instead of the BIF. Accuracydoes seem to improve with successive frames of the same subject, but thats really not acceptable. I have not seen the animal eye feature work on the A7R4 for birds. This does work marginally on the A7R3. I could not test face and eye recognition on humans, but I hope it is significantly improved. I miss a lot of shots on the A7R3 because face and eye focus doesnt work properly. All said, both cameras are the best available and Sony compatible glass is phenomenal. IMO Sony is the market leader for good reason. Wishlist for Sony fix PS, fix operation with TCs and implement global shutter.

Where to start I began shooting 8 years ago and have always loved the idea of a smaller camera, but I never once thought I could get BETTER photo quality, too Its incredible, the detail you get is something beyond, and if you want to, you can drop the resolution to save some space on your memory card. Most importantly as a semipro shooter, WORKFLOW IS MUCH BETTER on this, eyeautofocus works like magic, I find myself being able to focus on the shoot and composition, instead of having to readjust the focus to find the models eyes all the time. Extremely happy with this purchase. Getting an Alpha 7RiV is the best decision youll ever make in camera choices.

I was surprised how few changes there are between the A7R3 and the A7R4 compared for example with the A1. All the changes are incremental improvements much like when you upgrade your software everything overall is improved but one thing usually stands out. In this respect it is resolution. if you are already a Sony user you are buying this for the resolution and the jump makes a huge difference.

I have owned SONY Cameras for the past 8 years A77, A99, A99II, A7R III that were really great for many reasons. But the new A7R IV is truly a fantastic camera. The focus features are far superior to all cameras. I can hand hold the A7R IV with a 150600 lens and get incredible shots of birds. The incredible large sensor with 61 MP takes one to a whole new world of possibilities.

Mirrorless cameras are hard to get used to, harder to follow fast moving subjects, gotta remember to turn it on before you raise the camera up or youre looking at a black screen until it jumps to life. The Nikon D850 seems to have just as sharp photos if not sharper unless its just the lame software of Sony or it could be just my old computer, needs more testing. The brand new camera had a blob of dust or something on the sensor, shouldnt have to clean the sensor right out of the box. Nikon has a better setup as far as the controls on the camera and it will raise the ISO automatically if needed but will otherwise keep it at the ISO you set it at.

Sony just steps up every time they release a camera. This A7r IV is no exception. The eye auto focus is fast and accurate. Barely after so many many years that Sony has been out is Canon barely catching up with the R5 they released. Yes the R5 sounds like a great camera but its too little too late. The a7r IV files are clean and beautiful and if you need to crop your image then its no problem at all with 60 megapixels.

Great mirrorless, full frame camera body. Moving over from Canon, so new to the Sony line, but first impression is that the a7R IV is a monster, with amazing resolution, speed, focus and enough bells and whistles to learn for the next few months The menu system takes some time to get used to I recommend watching one of the many YouTube tutorials available online

Love this camera, was concerned about low light performance coming from an a7 III but was still blown away.It is a little more finicky as the noise is more noticeable, but mostly I dont see more noise shooting them side by side. It is more that the noise is easier to see see with the high resolution I feel. The photos that I feel I cant use seem to be photos I wouldnt have even had on the a7 III.

Ive had this camera for several months, and am still getting used to all of its advantages. It appears that the color accuracy is also modestly improved. For me, the ergonomics, better continuous tracking and the flexibility offered by larger file size are the main improvements. I find this camera is well suited for wildlife photography as well as for landscapes, and sold both my A7rM3 and A9. So, now I have one goto camera for everything I photograph. For wildlife, I can go to Csize images to get an effective reach of 900mm on my Sony 200600mm zoom before even using the 1.4 teleextender. Yet I still have 28 MP to work with. I can also make brilliant prints of my landscape images of any size that I could conceivably need. Maybe this is the ultimate camera that I keep promising to my wife.

Ignore the detractors who whine about no one needing a camera with 61MP. The A7R IV is likely the best camera at the price available today. The R IV exhibits outstanding resolving power when matched with GM glass and the ergonomics are significantly improved over the R III. The killer feature for me though is the 29MP APS C crop mode. Ive set custom button C1 to toggle crop on and off. My 135mm 1.8 GM becomes a 200mm 1.8 instantly without taking my eye from the viewfinder. All in all the R IV is more than the sum of its parts and fully justifies the price of entry.

This camera is able to resolve incredible amounts of detail and it still has the best photography sensor in its class, as well as shoot some extremely crispy 4K. And even though it shoots the same 4K video codecs as the other Sony models, it does so with unlimited record times, video eye autofocus, a digital hot shoe to be used with Sonys digital shotgun mic and XLR adapters for improved audio quality. Right now its my favorite photography leaning hybrid camera on the market. I enjoy the ehnahcements made to the body over my old A7III and A7RIII, as well the better EVF.

This camera just blows me away, I did extensive research on this camera and decided I wanted it. I had an a7iii which is a fabulous camera in its own right but this is a significant leap in technology. I have the 24mm g master and The 55 Zeiss And my pictures just look extraordinary. Is 61 megapixels overkill Not necessarily. I feel like even if you dont need that many now, you could in the future and you could always use the super crop mode which still gives you 26 megapixels. I shoot landscapes and environmental portraits and the details just blow me away. The battery life is great, the camera feels much better to hold if you have big hands and if youre familiar with the Sony menu system, youll be fine navigating the camera. The camera works well in low light and focuses very quickly but there is some noise if you shoot above 640 iso. It really becomes noticeable after 6400 but not so much that its irritating. If you purchase this I dont think you will need another camera for at least 10 years. If you have the money get it, if you dont, save up and get it.

There isnt anything u really cant say wrong about this camera. I love everything about it. Everything u hear about it in a good way is exactly what it is. If u here anything wrong its probably from a person who is used to what theyre used to and havent given it a real chance. The great thing about this camera is the megapixels and so much more but that is also the only downside. The files are soooo big. Luckily i have alot of memory space and if you dont then youll need it. You can make the files smaller but at the cost of losing some image quality, and there may be a time to do it if its not a professional job but the average person wouldnt notice a thing. I wanted a highres body and better ISO performance. Moving from Canon, I wasnt excited about mirrorless, but after a period of adjustment and customization, the camera is great. Startup is slower than canon, the flash shoe is super tight makes me nervous removing stuff, and the highISO noise isnt as great as Id hoped, but with the extra resolution, downsampling a little smooths it out and Im still ahead of where I used to be.For anyone who is less excited about the color compared to their old system Making a custom color profile was also a big help and means Im not adjusting as much in raw images look fantastic.I wasnt super excited to get this camera I bought it out of necessity. But now that I have it, I really do like it. Being able to customize the controls to access common functions quickly is also a great help.

I was delighted with II, thrilled with III, and astounded with Mark IV. No complaints of any kind, even with the menu system which is customizable for special needs. Yes, you need big, fast SD cards and a fast computer to process the large files. A point with respect to specs the published px count is 9504 x 6336 60.2 Mpx, which is what you get when shooting jpg. Shooting ARW raw gives you files that are 9600 x 6376 61.2 Mpx. The 16frame pixelshift feature yields files that are 4 times larger and resolution that is unprecedented in a camera of this size and price.

The a7R IV is a very well thought out upgrade to the already loved a7R III. This camera features upgraded buttons, grip and finally, a locking exposure compensation dial.Sony continues to listen and innovate based directly on the feedback of their users. Their ability to listen and implement so directly and quickly is something the camera industry is simply not used to.The 61MP sensor is something simply incredible. Way more resolution than most people need, but not a downside in any way. Had reviewed many youtube videos on proscons of this camera before purchasing a7RIV. The 1st a7RIV I got was having AF performance problem images not as sharp, sometimes. So, I returned it to BH and got a 2nd one. The 2nd one works superbly. Love the AF tracking performance for BirdinFlight shots and the details of each image captured by the a7RIV. With some practices on AF system, shooting a super fast bird, such as swallow, in flight has been now an enjoying, as to a frustrating, experience.. Amazing machineEVF is excellent. Changing settings, shooting, and reviewing images all are done in EVF, and my eye never has to leave the EVF. I used to heavily rely on reading glass to review images, and have to constantly takeoff reading glasses during shooting and put the glasses back on again for reviewing. Such inconvenience is now all in the past, and this machine totally changes my shooting habit for capturing fastmoving objects.I was a Nikon DSLR shooter, so acquiring a new system is not an easy decision.

I want to first rate Focus Camera 5 stars, big time. Excellent customer service. Usually when you go third party seller it can be iffy, but this company is excellent. They deserve a shout out for their good business practices. Im going to rate this camera based on my previous A7R3 in comparison. The R4 has awesome auto focus. The difference is enough to notice. The R3 is great and no complaints, but the quickness of the R4 is definitely superior in this regard. Ergonomics are about the same. Nothing to write about. If you use Adobe Lightroom or Photoshop, on some computers the R4 files may cause the app to choke. Big big big file. On screen you can not tell any difference in image quality. Prints are another story. I have done two 24×36 prints, one of the R4 and one of the R3. R4 has the edge on sharpness in landscape and lit images. R3 has the advantage with low light photography. It sports a slightly higher IQ and reflects on the dynamic range in low light and night landscape shots. Was it worth the money Yes. But I am still keeping my R3.

Amazing simply amazing, Image quality auto focus speed with accuracy. I am migrating from Canons world of outdated technology. I have paired this up with Sony 24mm f1.4 and Sony 70200mm f2.8 OSS and will buy the 90mm f2.8 macro by Sony. Focus assist with zoom, eye detection with accuracy and fast speed with 10 fps mechanical and electronic was great for me, no they had IBIS…got to love it specially if you are shooting stills with manual lenses. This thing is both beauty and the beast in one package. You dont need a teleconveter it has apsc mode that gets you there with literally click of a button customize any of custom buttons but you images are reduced down to 24 megapixel. You you gain more buffer and now you whole screen is 100 covered with AF points. Low light performance can certainly be improved by Sony but it is impressive hands down. Canon if you are reading this you will lose more customers like me if you fail to produce affordable bodies to pair up with new amazing RF lenses line up.

That part must be in high demand right Being that I was correct that I received a bad camera, you would think they would send me a new one, hopefully one that has been checked out via QC. I still give this 3 stars and would still recommend the camera as my experience with Canon was much, much worse, the Canon camera never got fixed. It is a toss up between 2 or 3 stars, so lets say 2.5. So now I am without a camera for over 2 weeks so far, and so far it looks like it will be a lot longer.Im guessing that because of the large amount of preorders and to make their release date, quality control was set aside. I think I will wait awhile when the next version comes out.

The A7RIV is every bit as capable as its predecessor and adds features. Rather than repeat what plenty have already noted, it might be useful to address the medium format quality claims and refutations that are circulating about this camera.First, the camera isnt medium format and with a 36 x 24 mm sensor it never will be. However, it does have enormous resolution and capacity to capture brightness range. That enables users to make pictures that display fine detail, smooth tonal range, and subtle color rendition that is comparable to some MF cameras. Having compared Sony A7RIV files with both a Leaf Aptus 65 and a Leaf Aptus II 10 28MP and 56MP respectively, the Sony surpasses the 28MP back and is nearly on par with the 56MP back when the Aptus is used in ideal conditions. When considering the benefits of high ISO and low noise offered by the Sony BSI CMOS sensor over the older CCD technology of the Leaf backs, the gap widens significantly. Similarly, the Sony FE lens offerings are easily comparable to those available for SLR MF cameras. In fact they are often sharper. While many might scoff at such an assertion due to their heavy MF investment, the logic is sound. There has been a over decade of technological refinement since the first truly portable MF camera offerings. During that period of time 18, 22, 28, 33, and 40MP sensors have been surpassed by both newer MF options and FF mirrorless options. Now the benchmarks are 100 and 150MP for MF and we are beginning to see the features found in mirrorless cameras converge with MF. Its also worth mentioning that the 150MP BSI CMOS sensor in Phase Ones newest back is made by Sony. And, while there is no verification, its telling that if you calculate the ratio of sensor area versus resolution between the Sony A7RIV and the 150MP Phase they are equivalentthe sensor in the Phase One back is 2.5 times larger than the FF Sony. 60MP x 2.5 150. Coincidence Not likely. And lastly on this point its almost become a contradiction to refer to a 150MP file from a Phase One back as MF. When deployed on a technical camera with Rodenstock or Schneider glass, the results are probably better described as large format even though the sensor area is decidedly medium format. As second point to address is the issue of bit depth. While 16 bit files and 10 for video would be great, its easy to get caught up in those numbers as some sort of absolute. They are meaningful but they are not the only factors. It is important to note that the increased capacity to record brightness range mitigates the more limited bit depth for both photo and video. If the sensor can capture the full brightness range of a scene the bit depth can be more limited without compromising the capacity for post production adjustment. One only needs to look at drum scanners as an example for validation of this point. For years, flatbed scanner manufacturers foregrounded 48bit specifications as one of the primary measures of quality for their scanners. However, when it came to film, the limited dynamic range of the CCDs in those scanners made capturing full tonal range images challenging. By comparison, a 24bit drum scanner with its vastly more sensitive photomultiplier tubes could capture the full dynamic range, Dmax to Dmin, in a film original. The resulting file may have been limited to 24bit from the drum scanner but those 24 bits were superior to the 48 coming out of the flatbed. Following that logic, and reinforced in practice, the 15 stop brightness range of the Sony sensor make the lower bit depth less of a factor. Of course its still a factor and, especially for video, two more bits per channel would be useful, but its not the deal breaker that many claim if you actually weigh all the factors at play. The A7RIV isnt medium format. It does offer quality comparable to medium format when you are comparing it to past offerings below the 50ish Megapixel range. Personally, I am not done with MF and anticipate that most of the features that we are seeing in the A7RIV will end up in some manufacturers MF mirrorless body soon. Fuji is cresting that rise now with their GFX100 that sensor is also made by Sony and others are sure to follow.

Im a Canon 5D Mark IV and 1DX Mark ii shooter who bought a Sony A7III when it came out. While I really loved the eye focus and Sony colors even compared to Canons colors I just didnt quite dig the form factor of the A7III. It felt just too consumer. Also, banding I ended up buying an A9 with the battery grip, a higher resolution viewfinder, and faster focusing system. I was a bit happier, but still not ready to switch, so Ive been shooting weddings using BOTH Canon and Sony the past 6 months. Sometimes Id take my Canon kit and sometimes Id take my Sony kit. After using the Sony kit enough times I came to the conclusion that mirrorless is most definitely the future. While the DSLR is not quite dead yet, it probably will soon be. I then had to decide in which brand to invest. I love Canon and currently own some of the best glass for wedding photography that one can own, the 24mm 1.4, 35mm 1.4, 85mm 1.2, and 50mm 1.2, 100 2.8L and 2.8 zooms for example. I even own the 200mm F2, and while I dont shoot it often, its my favorite lens ever. The point is that I would go the Canon route if at all possible. However, the EOS R just didnt do it for me being even more consumer grade than the Sony A7III. That said, new mirrorless versions of the Canon 50 1.2, 85 1.4 lenses and lens innovations like a 2870 f2 are almost lust worthy. My only hope was that Canon would announce a pro version in its mirrorless line in time for the holidays, perhaps. Alas, not happening. What did happen was that Sony announced a new version of the A7R that took into account almost all of the nits that I and others had with the A7 and A9 and A7RIII cameras. Better still, 60MP of resolution with even 26MP in crop mode Well, I purchased the A7RIV and after shooting a single wedding with it ALL of my Canon gear has sold or is for sale on eBay. Ive used some of the money to fill in my Sony lens collection and bought the newly released 35mm 1.8 and the 135mm 1.8 lenses. The 35mm gets the job done and the 135mm makes me not miss ANY of my Canon glass. Its really that good. The A7RIV fits perfect in my hand. So much so, that I cancelled an order for the battery grip that was to be released a few weeks after the camera. Its just not needed. The eye focus is even better, the view finder is even better, the rear dial and joy stick are much better. This thing is an absolute joy to shoot I still have a couple of nits, but Sony has shown that they are committed to listening to pro shooters and continuous improvement. For example, that stupid exposure dial at the top rear that keeps moving by mistake Well, Id actually gotten use to it and now use it to adjust my exposure in real time while looking through the viewfinder. When I heard they put a lock on it in the new A7RIV I laughed because how ironic it would be that I no longer needed or wanted one. Well, get this They put a lock on it that allows it either to be unlocked fulltime or locked fulltime. So, now I have the option. Details like this show me that Sony is ready to dominate the professional market. Im in. When can I preorder the A9ii and what organ can I sell to get the 400mm 2.8 I love you Canon, but bye bye. Its not me, its YOU

The camera is remarkable and at this price, you end up saving in the long run since you wont have to upgrade to another device for many years to come. Sony is so ahead of the game in terms of pixels and quality of image and colors. I was a Canon user for years and the colors simply do not compare to what I am getting with Sony. Also, the camera is so great that the subject looks better than it does in real life. It makes memories of may life, travel and wildlife which is my primary interest that I am so happy with I not likely to ever change to another product for years. You will see your photography surpass your expectations, but you will also enjoy the options to crop and get close up images with its amazing 61mp You will also save money on zoom lenses because the pixels and image quality, colors and overall ability of the A7RIV camera is so great.

I just switched to the Sony system given that the Sony bodies are multiple generations ahead of Canon at this point. The Sony glass has finally gotten to a point where its a usable ecosystem as well. I am amazed at the results that IBIS and the increased dynamic range from the A7R IV produce vs my 5D IV. I can expose for the highlights and boost the shadows for DAYS before they start to look unnatural. The menu system is a little clunky but I feel like the Canon menus were also bad. I wish that the custom settings modes encompassed ALL settings and not just certain settings. For example, I want custom settings modes to modify the AF w Shutter setting, but it is just not included so I have to change that manually. Overall, I am very happy with the switch. I also purchased the 2470mm f2.8 GM. I was worried that it wouldnt be able to fully resolve the 60MP as its the least sharp of the GM lineup, but I was pleasantly surprised with the sharp results from that combo.

Having owned an a7R ll and an a7R lll, I can honestly say the new Mark IV is a big improvement. Overall, the camera is more ergonomic. Sony increased the size of the grip just a bit making for a more comfortable handholding experience. I like the new implementation of Eye AF and action tracking. The EVF has been upgraded to the point that looking through the viewfinder, almost looks as good as an optical finder. All the buttons have been upgraded to feel more precise. 2 memory slots … big deal 61 MP of resolution What can I say … the files are beautiful and rich in detail, AND BIGThe addition of variable aspect ratios for me was a big deal and reason enough fopr me to upgrade to the new Mark IV. I came from shooting 6×6 medium format. Never really liked the 35mm aspect ratio. Now I have the ability to shoot squares 11 or 43 and see the crop in camera. I suspect 61mp and an increase in focus points provided an easier transition to crop images in camera. The touch screen option is only good for placing a focus point, not for menu selections. Dont know why Sony implemented touch screen this way, but maybe can be fixed in a firmware updateBeware, that Sony menus are not the greatest. The new IV attempts to improve the menus, but they are still a little confusing … you do get used to them over time.Overall … a great camera. If you shoot action portraits, you will love the implementation of eye AF and tracking … worth the upgrade in my opinion. For all of you landscape shooters … get ready for some amazing files

Great Camera but I rated it 3 stars because I myself dont need that high of megapixels. Out of the 10 Frames per second advertised 4 images are tack sharp in focus. That is mainly because of the high Megapixels of this Camera. Depends what you like shooting but I do own the A9ii which has twice the speed with much more AF points of each image 20frames per second no black out.

Let me start by saying. I have a Sony a 99 and a Sony a 99 mark ii full frame camera bodies. When The Mirror less bodys came out. My fat fingers and bulbous thumb, was way too big for that small of a camera body. Now that they have made it,So that my bulbous thumb fits the buttons and fat fingers can grab it easily I now have a lighter and easier camera to carry around.People have really not pointed this out, but The menu moves much faster now. Then a 99 mark II .The video focusing has much improved. I can now be in manual mode for Camera .start a video recording Record it whatever fstop I was in with focus. F1.4 f1.8 and so on . However I am not a into videoing .I just know that the fullframes didnt do that .So The display does not rotate .it only folds out to up or down. On my A99s The monitor was always facing the camera .unless I was showing somebody a picture. It Stayed fairly clean and was well protected that way. Touchscreen functions well .due to the fact I have fat fingers and the gigantically Bulbous thumb . I have the touch screen turned off .my nose Is on it all the time . And now it looks like the window of a car ,with the puppy dog in it. But on the bright side it doesnt have the flimsy Feeling like the A99 dose .The View finder is my preferred method of using this camera . The EVF and live view combined made life so easy. To see the out come . Black and white, sepia, long exposures Even better one can turn off live view , And have a InColor night vision scope .I have used it many times to find things.Lens covers, memory cards, I have dropped on the ground in the dark night club.It has already been said many times Auto eye focus , Focus tracking. all other Focus related Points of the camera work very well . This is true I got this camera without a kit lens. I picked up the 135 1.8 GM lens . Even with The camera bodys Focus mode speed in the middle it is fast and accurate . I had the focus lock on a bumblebee. The bumblebee was buzzing around a flower. I was so impressed with the focus speed, I forgot to take the picture .Ya its that good Crop mode very nice works well. I have mixed feelings about it. To me it seems simpler just crop in post . Crop mode with zoom wow. Works in a pinch, when you cant get close enough. So is this the camera for you. Honestly I dont know A friend of mine has this camera too . Had he not handed me his Camera . I wouldnt have got it , because the A7S does not fit my fat thumb or my fat fingers .

Wow. Where do I start with this cameraI finally mustered up the strength to switch to Sony after using Canon for years on end. I owned a Canon 6D for about 56years. Shot tons of portraits, events and videos on it. Ranging from fast paced photosvideos of live bands to nature and landscapes. A HUGE variety of work. In August of last year 2019 I upgraded my Canon 6D to the EOS 5Dmkiv.TLDR it felt like I went diagonal instead of a direct UPgrade had some issues with it I was not too impressed, and my only other options available were the EOS R or the large and expensive 1Dxii.I decided to bite the bullet and pick up the A7RIV, sell all my lenses and replace them with Sony equivalents. Very expensive, and very scary.THOUGHTSI think this camera is truly an allinone beast. I dont know how Sony does it, time and time again Youre getting a 61mp 15stop dynamic range stills beast WITH FULL FRAME 4k, that has crazy sharp 4k crop mode. Package this with top of the line phase detect autofocus, eye detection, and tracking you get a true allinone beast.Being able to take crazy high res and high dynamic range landscape photos, then switch over to video mode and get solid 4k30 video WHAT This is amazing. So happy with my decision. This camera has much better high ISO performance than the 5dmkiv according to DXOmark, and it has 61mp vs the 5ds 30mp.I still love you CanonThats not to say everything is all peaches and cream with this camera. Operating the menu, to say it nicely, is a pain in the butt.. Its laid out and organized in a terrible way which makes it the most unintuitive menu on a camera Ive ever used. The lack of the touch screen besides AF point select, leaves a lot to be desired from the cameraHowever I want to end this review on a positive note. If youre someone in the market for an allinone camera beast. You want the absolute highest resolution and still be able to shoot incredible 4k video and sports This is the camera for you, if youre willing to learn the menu system and are okay with some of the quirks of Sony cameras. There is something left to be said about Sonys menu systems and how they sort of feel like a knock off dated psp menu system.Hope this review helps ya out reader TBH no matter what camera you get these days whether its Canon, Panasonic, Fuji, Nikon, or Sony, theyre all fantastic. Thanks for you time of reading my long winded review.

I own this and an a7iii. This camera is incredible. I love my a7iii and didnt think the a7r4 would wow me as much as it has. Heres some pros and consPros locking dials, much better grip for people with big hands, buttons and joystick are improved, viewfinder is amazing, auto focus is insane and of course 61 mpCons this shouldnt be a surprise but some people dont think about it right away. The file sizes are huge so youll need some fast writing memory cards if you shoot continous drive mode. The average card that writes at 250 or 300 mbs is around 150 to 200 a piece. If youre buying this camera and arent shooting one photo at a time, just be prepared to drop 350 to 400 on cards that can keep up with the camera.I highly recommend this camera

A great camera but a very complex menu system takes quite a time to get to grips with. I have used cameras for over 40 years and fully understand the principles of photography but this camera makes it intially difficult to carry out fairly basic steps. However, it is has several features that make the transition worth the effort.

I am mostly into shooting landscapes and still lives. The large file she makes the camera less ideal for sportsaction, but not too bad really even for that. I shoot raw and the files can be processed in Lightroom, Capture One, Sonys own software and others. The button location and weather sealing is said to be improved. Seems solid to me. Dual card slots. The menus take some adjustment to but they are gradually being improved. The focusing is amazing.

This camera is a bargain for all the capability it brings to the table. I agonized for months over the best full frame performance value and it just came back to the A7R IV. Although a long term Sony user, I considered the Nikon Z7 II, Canon EOSR6 as well as the Sony A9. Not only was the A7R IV less expensive than the others, it just has everything I wanted. After using it for a few days, it is a beast. Yesit will take some time to personalize all the settings, but that is part of the process. Bottom line, I am getting fantastic results alreadyand the A6400 I just sold was no slouch.I paired it with the Sigma 35mm 2.8 and results have been outstanding.

What a fantastic camera. The image quality is fantastic and probably the best Ive ever seen from a full frame camera. The sensor is practically sliced from the medium format Fuji GFX 100 with the same pixel pitch. Where the A7riv excels is its autofocus and general usability. The Eye AF is unmatched and the tracking is very good. Its not quite as good as the a9ii or R5s AF tracking, but its very good. Especially for a 61MP monster. Highly recommended camera.

Pros The high resolution is superb, especially for Landscapes and Architecture. Being able to link exposure to a movable spotfocuspoint is both very useful and gives amazing results. The whole functionality includes many exclusive innovations. An Awesome Camera.

This is an awesome camera. If you are looking for a high end professional level workhorse, this is the camera for you. The biggest problem that Ive had is backfocusing issues, which is pretty common overall.

Wonderful pics. 61mp gives you alot to work with, if you need to crop. Excellent focusing and tons of features. Works great with all the sony lenses, especially the 135mm and 24mm Sony g master lenses. Also works great with Sigma 85mm 1.4 and Sony 20mm g.

The reviews I read called this model King of still photography. I was slightly hesitant. However right from day one I have never from being amazed. Superb picture quality . Color details is excellent. Always been a fan of Nikon d850, z6. This is go to camera for still photography. You have to crop significantly for motion photography. There are some good presets available in the professional blogs, definitely recommend getting it you have to be come a participant free. Sony lens recommended for getting the best out of the product.

Not having the ability to shoot lossless or medium raw makes it hard to recommend the A7RIV but other than that its a very good camera. Fast enough for casual shooting not sports and BIF and image quality with good lenses is astounding.

I own two a9 bodies and have had an a7R as well as an a7III. Thought I would try the RIV for image quality but found the trade off was extremely slow downloading of files. By slow I mean way too slow and time consuming. Unless Sony comes up with some kind of fix Im going to sell it and use my dependable a 9 bodies.

I upgraded to this camera from an A7 R3 that I have used for several years. I loved that camera but wanted the improved autofocus and increased resolution of the R4. I am very pleased. 60 MP lets me do severe crops of photos of distant birds and still get nice images. And the autofocus helps with birds in flightnot quite the A1 but at half the price I will not complain

I have the A7Riii and the A7Riv was strickly a new product purchase filled with preorder excitement. The A7Riv shutter noise is noticeably quieter and the camera feels great to hold. The buffering takes a long time to clear if youre trying to rush through taking photos then starting a video recording. You have to wait until the buffering clears. I dont have much to complain about and im enjoying being creative with the current tool of choice.

Incredible camera. I upgraded from the Canon 70D and I am amazed by the picture quality and the ability to crop the photos and still retain the resolution. Noise is definitely an issue compared to A7iii in low light situation. Also, menu could be better, hope they release a firmware update with Menu like a7SIII.

Sony needs to reevaluate the camera strap eyelet. Unfortunately the right camera strap eyelet is constantly getting in the way when you are using the camera. It also becomes a problem when trying to put on a hand strap as its placement and design makes getting to all the control difficult. An inbody attachment point similar to Canon such be adopted..Other than this Amazing camera

The improved ergonomics dont seem to help my slightly large hands, and it is taking a little getting used to slightly different button options. But everything else is great. The 60 MP sensor is sharp. The AF seems both faster and smarter than the III. The weather proofing appears to be much better as well.

Bottom line is I really like this camera. That said, Im a pixel peeper and noise is particularly annoying to me. If you want detail, I would not shoot over ISO 800, while I am OK with my A7RM3 up to ISO 2000. If there is not too much detail in the image, and there is not too much high frequency data in your image, good denoise software, such as DenoiseAI will get you up to about ISO 1250. Beyond that the detail I bought this camera for is just not there especially in shadows.

I love most aspects of the camera the light weight as well as the bright viewfinder are terrific and I also appreciate having the histogram in the view finder. There are some negative, however. It seems that some settings can easily and accidentally be altered. On several occassions i have found my ASA settings to be markedly altered unbeknownst to me. I only notice it in the view finder when the image is blown out. I have no idea how I have managed to inadvertently shift the ASA setting but this has happened multiple times. I have had similar issues with the shutter speed. Apparently the respective knobs are too easily turned. I have never experienced this with any of the many other cameras that I have had over the years and they have been many. Nevertheless I would recommend this camera. It has a good feel, is light, the viewfinder is great as are the resultant photographs.

At first, I wasnt sure if I should switch from Canon 5Dmk IV to Sony. But not a second of the regret. It is a great camera with a crispy quality. It is a little confusing and frustrating to learn how to deal with a lot of settings in the beginning but afterward, you get used to the settings and enjoying the images.
