it is not compatible with the iPad Pro usb C you cannot get the advanced settings . WORKS WITH MY IPHONE MINI 12 . But not much better than onboard mic . Overpriced for what it is

There is no doubt that Shure has become a legend in audio. However, attaining that status comes with the price of exceptional expectation. Well, they delivered on this product. Recommended to me by one of my writing partners Steve Forrest Placebo, AOKs, and this product has rocked my world regarding my iPhone 11. The blend of versatility and quality of this product is insane Well done yall…

I did a lot of research when looking for an external mic to improve my iOS products. There are many good options but I found this one had the best build quality and to boot was built specifically for iOS devices. I am a drummer and I have a hard time trying to record drum related situations with the built in mic on an iPad or iPhone. The hi hat and snare are usually the first things to overdrive a built in mic. Well, not with this little guy I am so pleased with the results you can get with this little easy to use mic. Just based on the fact that you now have a high quality mic that can handle any musical situation makes this a winner. Plus, with the app shure has made for this setup you have total control of your mix. EQ, compression, several polar patterns for the mic and easy to use recording software. Also after you open the app and set the mic as you want, when you go to the camera to shoot s video the settings are maintained while you shoot. This is definitely a winner in my book. Of course I am speaking more to musical situations and not so much about interview type situations.

MV88 leaves no chance for the recording quality of the Iphones builtin microphone. The embarrassment of the builtin microphones is an automatic adjustment of the sound level, whereas for MV88 the sensitivity is adjustable and it does not jump during the recording. The MV88 is incredibly easy to use, so you dont need to spend too much time installing and configuring it, instead of enjoying the great time. MV88 Digital Stereo Condenser Microphone connects to any iOS device with a Lightning connector. After a little testing and comparing the audio recorded on the internal microphone of my iPhone and MV88, I realized that with the new microphone I would be able to catch every breath with maximum clarity. MV88, of course, did everything necessary to record the sound of my video, but at the same time I got some important lessons for myself that I want to share with you. Rule number 1 activate the flight mode in your Iphone Each of you have heard before a strange electronic impulse that appears when the phone is next to the speaker. At the moment when the mobile device receives and transmits data, it can create radio frequency interference. Any microphone connected to the phone will be susceptible to such an influence and the creator of sound defects on your recordings. If you activate the flight mode in your Iphone, you can completely avoid this problem. Rule number 2 I am sure that you have a suitable windscreen. MV88 comes with its own windshield and application, which has wind suppression, but if you plan to record in particularly windy places, you should definitely consider buying deadcat. This special accessory helps many professionals and helps block any gusts of wind on your recording. Rule number 3 check the compatibility of the Iphone protective cover. The MV88 is attached directly to your Iphone. Many protective covers are not adapted to use an additional microphone. In any case, just remove it and the problem disappeared, but if you are very worried about protecting your own device, then the tick is that the cover will be adapted to connect the MV88.

Great quality sound from this microphone. Practical and easy to use. Just plug into the iPhone lightning socket and either put it down to record your sound or carry it around to record a walk talk. The ability to control the mics settings via the app is nothing short of brilliant it means you have a wide stereo mic and a mono mic all in one. The stereo image is amazing.Only down side is you cant monitor your sound while recording as newer iPhones dont have a headphone socket. This is a pretty vital feature especially if you are not able to record your sound again. This is the only reason it doesnt get the fifth star.

I love this mic. It sounds very good and requires so little effort. Very good for streaming from remote locations or if you dont have a good interface webcam setup. I actaully made an entire solo drum album using this thing. sweepstakes

Loved the simplicity of setting up this mic directly to my MacBook with the USBC cable. This simple addition makes a huge difference to me.The participates in my classes and video meetings love the audio quality. My workspace has many hard surfaces and a substantial echo, this mic has done a great job of picking up my voice and not the huge echo. Thanks for this great product.

My daughter is a pre collegiate but very serious violin student. Pandemic conditions have required everything be recorded from home. This device was recommended by several of her teachers and works wonderfully It has associated software and is almost instantly ready to use once this software has been downloaded. Her teacher noticed the improved sound immediately sweepstakes

I use this product to record audio for my youtube videos and do it all from my iPhone if you use a non apple case you will need to get a lightning port extension like I had or go for the higher priced Motiv MV88 if you plan to use it with a gimbal. Overall it was a great purchase and have no buyers remorse. If you have a gimbal than i would definitely go for the MV88 Videographer kit instead.

I use the shure mv88 as a recording device for clarinet. I am an amateur musician that was fed up with bad iPhone mics over the years and decided to buy this. The sound is clear and crisp, no background noise unlike the built in iPhone mic. Would definitely recommend.

I purchased two of these to give to vocalists to record their parts from home due to covid. The app is easy to use and the quality is great especially for the price point. Works exactly as I needed it to.

I was hesitant to buy this mic because its a good lump of cash for some of us that dont make a bunch of money But 1010 worth every penny. I use it to record my podcast Prairie Ramblings and it even works great with recording audio from zoommy computer. the app is free and easy to use. also dont have a studio so makes my travel lifestyle and dynamic super easy and portable love it. sweepstakes

I wanted to see if I could improve the audio quality on the videos I do of street musicians, and was trying to avoid carrying a second device for better quality audio than my iphone 6s can provide. If you want to just record audio, and can setup the miciphone correctly and leave it in place while recording, this item performs well. The design of the mic however, with a unsecure connection via the lightening plug, can become disconnected easily, which distupts the recording and resets the device. You need to unplug the mic, and reset it to resume recording. I made a workaround to firm the connection, by using rubber bands over the top of the mic to the bottom of my iphone, and this worked fairly well. You had to choose what part of your screen to obscure but they helped with the disconnect problem. The mic is pretty large to rely only on the nonlocking lightening connector to secure it. Ideally, this would record directly with any camera app, but all of the camera apps I have either did not recognize the mic as a source, iphone camera, Camera, and ProCam, or recognized the mic, but crashed often when in use, FILMiC Pro. The lightening connection comes into play when recording video, and rubber bands across the screen to secure the mic make the video apps unusable…. forget about moving the camera with this mic unless you want to further juryrig something to hold the mic better or buy a cage of some sort. Nevertheless, I did use the mic to record some things, and had to go through a roundabout transfer with my macbook pro photos software, whereas with a standalone recorder, its much simpler to transfer the files via a card. My takeaway A phone is a phone, and asking it to perform one semiprofessional function is enough… record video or record audio…. Its too much to expect a phone to do both at the same time, and still maintain control and make changes during a recording… which of course is usually called for. All of the video apps I tried didnt work well with the mic, and file management is simpler with a card based recorder. Ill continue using the iphone for video, but will invest in a second set of travel pants with a spare pocket for a separate audio recorder, probably something with a stereo capsule and also a pair of xlr micline inputs for flexibility. Id rather spend a little time matching the files later, than a lot of time trying to mess with things at the moment Im trying to record. Had one for a year or two and it was stolen. Researched and couldnt find anything else like it in the price range so I bought another and couldnt be happier. I use it to record practice sessions, zoom, video etc. Does well with singing voice.
ElizaFran –
You have to download an app. When youll use it. Its the same thing using your microphone on headphone. Waste of money.
Virginia D –
The microphone quality is quite good. Useful features in the dedicated app include the ability to control gain, change polar patterns and use compression. I like the fact that you can use it while recording video. The only reason that it didnt get 5 stars is the fact that your battery will deplete from full to nothing in 75mins iPhone 6s, whilst using video. Unfortunately there is no way to charge the phone whilst recording. For this price tag I would have liked to have the option of external power.
David R –
Bought this for a coworker who had been using a mic built into his laptop for our company Zoom calls. The sound was awful and ruined the productivity of our meetings The MV5C turned his audio 180 degrees from worst to first It sounds outstanding for video conferencing. Buy one now sweepstakes

I am a professional voice actor. Sometimes I get asked to do auditions with a very quick turnaround. I keep this little gem right in my purse. When Im on the go, I just plug it right into my phone and have a pretty good quality sample to send to prospective clients. Its very portable, fits right in your hand, and the sound quality is lovely The only small drawback for me is with the editing software. If I trip up on a word, I cant go back and cut it out, I have to completely rerecord my take. You can only cut the front and back or split the clip up completely. Id have to import it into my editing software to do any more extensive edits and sometimes dont have my laptop with me to do so. But for a portable mic, it completely delivers on quality and portability. And its adorable.

One of the best mic for iPhone with lighting connection. Create much better sound compares with original iPhone mic

This microphone for smartphones delivers crisp and awesome video and audio. Through the Motiv app which is free from Shure, I can adjust settings of the microphone for recording speech, singing or instrumental recordings. Without this microphone, recording with the builtin mic of my smartphone delivers distorted sound. For video, I can adjust lighting, lock the setting, zoom in and out with no difficulty. I recommend this product for any serious musician who wants to post their recordings with professional quality sound.

Having owned a few iOS connected mics, this one is definitely the best sounding. Its versatile and has the unique feature of retaining its settings within the hardware when using it on another app in my case, video apps. As a first generation device, I personally think it could borrow two features from the competition. For example 1. An external gain knob or slider. When recording video, having to switch back to the Shure Motiv app will usually pause a video app. Sometimes you just need to make slight adjustments on the fly due to loud sources easily and quickly. 2. A power inlet. Some other iOS mics have a power pass through to charge the iOS device. With batteries getting better in each subsequent device, its not a totally necessary feature. However, it always makes longer video recordings a bit of a guessing game whether the device will make it. That said, the sound quality itself makes for a good trade off. Normally I use an Audio Technical AT2022 stereo mic connected to a Tascam iXJ2 for my needs, but that can cumbersome, however the sound quality is excellent. Something small, directional, multi patterned, and ingenious was needed as well. I found it in the MV88. Its worth it.

It was recording great quality sound, app was very customizable however, it was obnoxious having to take my phone case off every time I wanted to use it, and after a while the connecting part became lose and eventually snapped off. Would not buy again.
Roman, R. –
Its great for being such a cheap alternative. This connection doesnt fit the newer apple devices which is a bit of an annoyance, and although the sound is nice next time I will splurge on a more expensive and even nicer microphone setup.
JamesD489 –
this is a great microphone no doubt and the tripod looks nice although slippery just like the manfrotto who i suspect actually manufactured that piece. the phone holder bit is no good thoughdrops phones too easily luckily i tested it with a broken iphone first. at this price its extremely overpriced. had to replace the phone holder section with a better phone holder off eBay cost 5 that has a worm drive to screw the phone in place. mics great 5 stars tripod nice 3 stars, holder lacking 1 star
Simon –
This mic makes a huge difference in audio quality over the builtin mic in my laptop or headphones. When youre working from home, it relaly helps to have a quality mic which makes your voice more understandable. Its very reasonably priced for what it does, and is true plug and play no drivers are software needed.
jim –
Im disappointed with this product as it is not the quality I expect from Sure. The sound from this mic is satisfactory. First and worst is that the hinge that allows the mic to move is very loose and will cause extreme handling noise as it wobbles. Second, with a wind screen it is difficult to tell which way the mic capsule is rotated. There should be a mark on the back of the capsule and or some indicator light to show which way the side capsule is pointing. Third, there doesnt seem to be a way to simply do a MS recording so that the decoding can be done after the fact. The software always wants to revert to some other mode mono, cadriod etc Forth, Id like to see a power passthrough. The onboard EQ is a nice feature, but not very useful in most cases. It is difficult to make good choices in the field and even with the big iPhone the UI is too small. A simple highlow boostcut would have sufficed with the graphic EQ an advanced option. This along with the compression and limiting clutter up the user interface.

Im an actorsinger, and Im constantly having to submit selftapes auditions for television and stage much more so since the start of the pandemic. You always want to find ways to stand out to whoever is viewing your tape for a possible gig and I think stellar audio is one of the best ways to make your tape and you shine. You can have the most pristine tape VISUALLY, but if the audio is choppy, itll definitely hinder what youre trying to showcase. Ive been incredibly impressed with the MV88 and its easytouse interface through the app. It enables me to be a lot more confident in giving a colorful and dynamic range of sound within a tapeI can TRUST that the work I put in will be showcased accurately with this mic as opposed to a builtin iphone mic. And I think we can all agree, anything that helps reduce the stress of filming selftapes is well worth the money.Additionally, if youre someone in the VoiceOver realm, Ive found this mic incredibly useful for submissions fo that kind as well

Excellent kit for audio and video recording. The Shure mic records voice in superb quality. Ive used it connected directly to a laptop for handsfree and headset free conference calls and recording of video blogs. Also with the phone holder and tripod kit for mobile video blogs. Simple to use, very portable and great quality recording. Recommended.

At first, I was ready to put this back in the box and return it. It takes a bit of work and patience to understand how to get the best qulaity possible. In the end, I was happy with it and comparing it AB to recordings with the builtin iPhone mic it was night and day. A couple of watchouts to note which may frustrate you if youre like me and want it to work instantly out of the box 1 the Shure app that comes with it does not recognize bluetooth headphones for realtime monitoring. You must plugin regular phones into the iPhone jack to get that feature. It will record either way. 2 UNCHECK the Wind Reduction option in the app this will cause some terrible side effects like the bass warbling in and out. I thought the mic was broken until I shut this off. It may be good for vocal recording, but recording guitar this simply made it awful. After unchecking this it performed as expected. 3 There is an odd design flaw where the unit will block obstruct the headphone jack if plugged in a certain way. This is a problem as this is the ONLY way that you can angle the mic at 90degrees upwards toward the face of the phone. in other words, if you want to angle it up vs. toward the back of the phone and see what youre doing you cant plug in headphones at the same time.I highly recommend experimenting with the different settings for a bit in the app this programs the mic so the things you choose will carry over to the mics use in other apps ie. the native Camera recording or Memos app in iOS. Overall a good mic, solid value and sound if you use your iPhone for selfrecordings for social, YouTube, etc.

This tiny little mobile microphone is very well functioning and its quaility is good. clear even from quite far distance, and also mobile apps are working pretty good w this mic. only one thing that mattered is its shape. every time I use this mic. i have to place my phone upside down or 90degrees left pr right. except that. I like this mic. very much.

I bought this for dual purposes both to take quick recordings of guitar practice and also to use on hikes to record forest sounds. So far I have been very happy with both the quality of the recordings and the construction of the microphone. The slip on holder is tighter than any I have ever used I have not taken it off since putting it on, because it is too tight a grip. This is not too big a problem to me though. The small tripod is fairly solid, and works well. As does the phone holder, which is functional, but definitely built to a low price. The software is also quite usable. My only complaint is that trying to get a longer cable is difficult. I have tried several adaptors, and finally had success by using the included Shure cable and plugging an extension into itthis has lead me to think that the Shure cable is proprietary, in that it is not wired as an off the shelf cable with those ends would be.

I have a YouTube channel so this mic was a must have for me. Once i installed the Shure MV88 on my phone i noticed a big difference. The sound quality is crisp and clear. What i like best about this mic is that you can change the settings on in for my guitar playing. Sweepstakes

It gets great quality audio and the shure motiv audio app is an excellent companion to the recording experience. There are many settings within the app to adjust the import sound while recording. Very high tech setup sweepstakes

The MV5C is the optimal addition to any home office setup offering high quality and excellent voice clarity. sweepstakes

My initial response is very positive. I had been concerned somewhat about the reliance of the mic to my ipad solely by the lightning jack to hold the device in place. A couple of review videos Id seen hadnt identified this as a problem, but I was still concerned that it might be rather delicate. In the event it seems sturdier than Id feared. I do still, think, though, that an accidental sharp knock when mounted could snap off the connecter.I have so far only used it for videocasting not interviewing, etc and very pleased. Easy to get to grips with the various options modes and Ive tested it both indoors and out. Much sharper and more sensitive than the builtin ipad mic. Very pleased.
Ryan K. –
I got this mic to use for online gaming, streaming, and work purposes. Its super easy to set up and sounds great. Its small enough that I can carry it around my apartment with my laptop as well, and the aux jack in the back is perfect for my shure headphones.sweepstakes

Very easy to connect to phone, great sound quality, and very intuitive setup. The only downside is you cant connect the microphone without taking off your phone case. sweepstakes

After trying two iPhones and one iPad and consulting with a professional sound guy we decided it was a defective unit. The instructions even on Shures website were mostly non existent. I have return this item.
Gustavo P L –
This product has been an absolute delight. It feels solid and exact. Nothing is flimsy and every aspect looks like top quality. The sound I recorded is rich and clear, the app useful, the stand study. Very happy customer.
Rebecca K. –
On first use it appears to be a fantastic item. Fairly easy to install software on my phone. Being the Shure brand the microphone is excellent quality. As I have other Shure products I was not hesitant to purchase knowing their quality.
Leroy O. –
I use this product for videoconferencing from my PC laptop. The design is sleek and elegant, and the construction is solid.
DP24 –
I use this for recording my son in theater as well as recording commercials for my live high school football radio show. We are trying it soon for our podcast as well. I have found the mic to perfect for interviewing coaches and players. I have recorded my commercials on my qupac as well as the MV88 an used it for every one over the total digital board. I could email the file to myself and cut the audio so fast. I would say this is one of the most innovative products on the market.
Mark VH –
The sound quality is awesome. Easy to use and I love the apps that work with it.One tiny issue I have is that in order for me to use it in my phone, I have to take my phone case off. I have a phone case for a reason and thats obviously protect my phone. Not sure if there are adapters available or not. Ill take a look but would love to plug in the mic without having to take the phone out of the case.
Ian –
Ordered this during quarantine times to improve my audio and video recording process. The accompanying shure app is super easy to use and the mic itself improves the audio quality of your iOS device. It pushes it up to wav quality and also enables you to save directly to a cloud service which is a nice add on. Definitely worth it and BH had it out in the mail ASAP within the restrictions which was great and just in time for some projects. Comes in a smart little case and includes a few wires and a fuzzy pop cover.
John K –
We bought this to use with our iPhone 11 for live streaming, and its absolutely perfect. Setup was super quick, and the app has lots of valueadds, the sound is great, and its a nice looking and feeling product, right down to the carry case. Definitely highly recommend.
Andrew W. –
Super easy to set up and use. Check the type of phone case you have first though. Some are not open at the bottom. Awesome DJ city service as per usual.

This is my second unit in a week The first I received I had a major sound issue with, and after various conversations with Shure Technical Team, it was agreed that the mic was faulty. I was concerned in case it wasnt the mic but my iPhone 5s and iPhone 6s were the issue. I immediately arranged a replacement with Stationery Packs, who were brilliant in handling the issue. Thank youToday, I received that replacement and plugged it into my iPhone and SUCCESS.I desperately wanted this to work as it is a beautiful piece of kit.It is everything in a box that you need to create selftapes, video content or voice over or podcasting. Its a clever piece of equipment that has presets for Speech, Singing, Music, etc.. It comes complete with the cables, micro B to USB and Lighting, the phone holder with cold shoe and Pixi Manfrotto tripod desk top stand. The entire set up can easily fit inside a case or even a handbag. In fact there are various ways the kit can be set up for whatever use you require it for.As I said I wanted this to work and am delighted that it now does. The only other cable I had to additionally purchase is an AMVUSB, which will allow me, should I wish, to use the mic with my iMac.Shure also produces two free apps that work seamlessly with the MV88 MOTIV Audio and Video, these ensure the content you create is easily shared. All in all an impressive kit that I look forward to familiarising myself with and creating and sharing professional work related content in the months and years ahead.
Tim B –
Love using this mic with my iphoneSE. Shure should promote and link to their excellent free MOTIV Video app more prominently. The mic worked with the regular video app on my iphone but I wanted to be able to adjust input volume while was recording. The MOTIV allows this and a lot more like9x zoom. Finally found the app via a readers forum but Shure should make it easier to find this excellent app.
Diem T –
People rave about this and I can only assume my unit is faulty as I get intermittent static on mine and thats with the phone in airplane mode and do not disturb enabled. It works fine for doing voiceover work but as for using it for film making I have zero confidence in it. I paid a fortune for the windjammer but still had no joy using it outside.
dyymdad –
This Microphone works good. Recording sound quality is perfect. Unfortunately, you need to charge your phone fully first before use Mic.
Wendy –
The Shure MOTIV MV88 made a tremendous difference in the quality of the audio of our church service videos. For very little cost and easypeasy setup, it turned out to be perfect for us the inexperienced at livestreaming.
Alex227 –
Tangible improvement to the inbuilt iPhone microphone. Ive recorded violin music with it, and it can be difficult to maintain the sound quality of the instrument so Im really pleased with how this microphone has worked out. The audio and video apps are really great to use, too.

Still experimenting. Bought it for use on iPhone to conduct Facebook Live session. At the beginning, had problems because when I launched a Facebook Live session it would resent mic gain levels to 0. Struggled with this and called Shure. They didnt have any answers. I then when through a process of updating a bunch of different apps on my iPhone and that seemed to resolve the issue. Definite disadvantage to not being able to listen to audio through a 18 jack or any other way, particularly for doing something like Facebook Live. Ended up doing a number of tests and then just held my breath and had someone checking while live. In the end, the Facebook Live video sounded good. You can go between Facebook Live and the app, but that is not ideal particularly if you dont have the iPhone on a tripod.

I am just believing it is better than just my phone because it is supposed to be. It does not come with any instructions. You have to look it up online, download an app and then try to figure out how to use the app on your phone. If you want to access and print the manual, after you have found it online, you will probably have to buy ink for your printer because it is 33 pages. It was pretty bad not to include a manual.
ProudFlamingo27301 –
This was the best price on the internet for the Shure MV88 Video Kit. I jumped on it, and it arrived within a couple of days Couldnt be more pleased.

We stumbled on this microphone via friends who were using it for Live Stream events, and its been a great tool. Were learning to navigate around all the settings and features and having good success.

Needed to boost my voice for some Zoom recordings without the headaches of a headset. Was using the Mac internal mic but when I plugged this in the difference was fantastic.Thought is was a bit much purchase until I heard the difference not think it is a totally worth it WOWPlug n play set up, select in the Zoom audio pull down and away you go
Stacy HL –
The Shure MV88 is versatile and has a good, warm sound indoors and outdoors. I use it to record acoustic violin. Its fine close and further away. The app that comes with it helps a great deal. The one downside is I have to take off the phone cover to use it
Henry F. –
Dont rely on their inbuilt microphones.Whilst the playback sound can handle 20Hz20,000Hz…….the recording mikes cant capture anything below 50Hz.YouTube can upload and playback the full HiFi spectrum of 20Hz20,000Hz so do yourself a favour and buy a small professional clickin mike like the Shure Motiv MV88.Youll never regret it…..

Our usual schedule of singing and playing our guitars in Senior Care Homes has been interrupted by the recent pandemic so we decided to use technology to bring music to eldercare residents. We needed a good microphone for that purpose and my research of various products concluded that this mike was the best. Our first two distance performances sounded good at the other end and on playback. Also, very easy to use…
Jenn –
Tested out the MV88 this last weekend.. I love it. I recorded on the roof top deck where you could hear the breeze off the ocean rather a lot. You could not hear any outside noise only me and my interview subject on the mic. I highly recommend and will be purchasing a few more. Definitely, a lot beeter than I expected for the price..
John –
I purchased it to live stream my Church Service, a Catholic Mass. The building has a lot of echoes, with this mic I was able to focus where the sand was that made it a lot more intelligible. My congregation has been every happy with the new sound of this mic.
Philip E –
Its been a fantastic way to enhance quality of recording. During Covid I am spending a lot of time recording music for church services and social media. Your Shure mic has made the quality of hte recording 100s of times better.
Paul S –
I use my Shure mv88 to record live acoustic performances and nature videos for you tube and my own recollection purposes. It sounds amazing. Very sensitive so the thin walls here where I live become more apparent like hearing neighbors ac kick on. Almost need own home for silence. sweepstakes shure

Sound quality is excellent and the software program for this microphone works great and it is very easy to use. This is an excellent package. Highly recommend.

The shure MV88 is a good sounding smalllight weight microphone.Super easy to use.Plug it into your IPad IPhone and use the MOTIV software to make some very good recordings. I like to use mine with IRig software to record video audio of guitarvocals. You can post on Facebook or YouTube with ease.Great little microphone Along with software is incredibly easy to use.Makes very good sounding music videos.
Tommy J –
Just plug it in and the software asks to be downloaded. Once installed, it is super easy to create videos with high quality stereo sound. I am using the rig to record my small band in an outdoor setting and the microphone is sensitive enough to record Every nuance of the guitars and vocals from 1015 feet away. This was a good buy for me.
staurosjohn –
I have the earlier model lightning connector and itt a great mic This one works with my iPad Pro 11 C connector also connects to camera brackets…
SethParr –
I bought this not really understanding its use, at first other than knowing I wanted to film myself practicing and playing music.Heres what I learned and what I wish for to be changed I wish to be able to power the mic outside of the camera as the mic is dependent upon the phones battery. Its my understanding the software App changes arent saved in the software but rather in the speaker itself and the software reads that information. As such, I wish the mic could be used separately from the phone. At 250 300 it doesnt have the cleanness of a 200 ZOOM H4N PRO Field Recorder given distance to the mic, but at the same time, the ZOOM isnt three mics with a large area of control for those mics and its not integrated with a camera either.Personally, video aside, for better audio quality less noise, I would prefer a field recorder. If you need an all in one package, then this is a great package and youll probably be most pleased. Its pretty impressive what SHURE had done with this package. The Shure MV88, definitely has its place for less equipment carry around, fast results audio and video together, etc. but youre limited with it because youre tied to the phone. I understand this is what it was made for but the question really boils down to this Are you in the niche market of making videos with the upper smartphonestablets that this product caters to If so, youll probably be most pleased. If not, then you may find that despite its amazing feature set, this device can be claustrophobic in relation to other audio equipment given cost to price performance.Im looking forward to Shures future with further developments of this type of technology.

This mic is great, especially for its price Its not the cheapest piece of equipment, so I had high expectations for it, and it did NOT disappoint. The wind reduction feature really impressed me There is a lot of wind where I live, and the wind reduction cut out SO much Also just a clean sound all around. 1010 recommend.

I bought the MV 88 and its only a very little better than my iPhone X without it. Im disappointed. I tried every setting. I only use it for a simple one man podcast. The quality is fine. Youll have to remove your phones case every time you use it. I hate to be a Debbie Downer but its not worth the money. I would say maybe mine is broken but it does work. It just makes the sound a TINY bit better. I was really looking forward to it being better.
ALEX –
Using it strictly for vloggingsocial media. So far so good What a drastic and dynamic improvement over the traditional 3 stock mics on the iPhone11. Whats even better is the ability to customize the range and frequencies. My setting is obviously for mono and directly in front of filming. App is user friendly and very helpful. Overall very pleased for the price and delivery.

A nice little tripod stand that works well with our android and iOS phones. Only criticism is that there should be the option to tilt the upper section and even elevate it an inch or two more. Found we had to go Jenga style and build platforms for the tripod to sit on to get to a reasonable height

Im the Station Director for BigReggaeMix.com, and I researched a lot of different external mics for an iPhone and this is the one I chose. I just received it today, and tested it out and its PHENOMENAL. It literally produces studio quality sound, and the app is pretty easy to use too. The wind protector also doubles as a very effective pop filter, and it really makes music live or recorded sound amazing. I would highly recommend this mic
Dolores –
The quality of the audio that this mic provides is excellent. The only drawback is that IF you are using an iPhone 7 plus phone, there is no way to monitor the audio input via headphones because the mic is in the same Thunderbolt input where you would put your headphones. Also, the adapters that allow you to charge your iPhone and connect a 18 headset cord do not work. I know, I brought several different models. Yes you can see the small bars as the audio is modulating, but for professional use, you need to HEAR it while you are recording it. I also liked that it works outside of the settings in the downloadable software, though without all the additional bells and whistles.

I tried the Rode video mic me first and got terrible interference crackling while streaming live video, this little mic is much more expensive but has been completely flawless. If you are a Mobile Journalist streaming from events or news stories, this is the one to have. It uses the lighting connector on the iPhone and the quality is perfect.
Brandon –
The hardware itself was well made, the problem came from the app that is downloaded to the phone. The app constantly had to be forced closed and the mic repeatedly dropped out and reverted to the phones internal mic. Audio would record in when using the audio only function, however audio would record while using the video app. At the time of my purchase the it had been three months since the app had been updated. I am using an iPhone 11 Pro.
mchs –
The sound quality and ease of use are excellent, far better than the yeti and other microphones we tested. But we purchased mostly for zoom lessons and with a flute there was some difficulty for the instructors audio to be heard without disconnecting and reconnecting the microphone during a lesson, making the lesson a cumbersome process. For voice lessons it was a big improvement but it was difficult to have it angled properly for optimal sound. Zoom music mode helped when using a laptop, but this device is not compatible with a laptop. We may try the shure mv51.

I got this for film making with my phone. I run a blog that gets 400 people visit every day and so sound is really important. I have also recorded music artists and found it great.Comes with a foam windshield and nice case. The app for this mic is great it allows you to control spread of mic direction and gain controls. It also allows different file types when recording.Love it.

wish it could be used on iPad, but u derstand limitations, nowalso, app remains upside and WIIL not turn right side us.difficult tomsave tomkcloud easily, but have developed some better or new ways of saving easily.take a hint from Apple files, they make creating and accessing files so easy

A superb device. Pro sounding stereo with variable width and polar fields. A very excellent solution to any in the field recording needs. I take mine every where. I send raw recordings to Dropbox from where I can access the recordings for any editing and use on any platform.
Wacko G –
Definitely a great buy. Worth the price. Its very easy to use and comes with a great variety of features through the recording and video apps associated with the mic. May be challenging when you want to charge your phone and use the mic and the mic may not fit with some iPhone cases. But for me personally its not a big issue.
Texan75 –
I use it with my phone to record videos I am doing. Only thing I wish is that the prong were longer to accept my otter box. I have to take my phone out of the case for it to fit in the slot.

This is my first decent microphone in so long that Id forgotten what it was like to be able to capture the audible world in high fidelity. Its a lot like comparing images from a really good 35mm DSLR with your smartphone camera no comparison. Its not just the sensitivity and the inexplicable liveness of the sound…its the stereo rendering, and the ability to tune the degree of stereo spread that leads to a really different sound capture. The sensitivity is nearly spylike…you can hear and capture quiet conversations from 200 provided there isnt a lot of other background noise. And the brightness and clarity to the average person like me sounds better than a lot of commercial streaming music quality.
WDWDuncan –
Great microphone for vocals. Be sure to check the best settings for your app i.e., Zoom before thinking it does not work well. Sound quality is very good. Any compression or input range limiting may be thru your app, not just Shures MOTIV apps settings.
Jeremiah –
I was recording orchestral rehearsals with my iPhone and the quality was OK but not great. I bought this microphone and now the quality of my recordings is superb. Theres much more detail and clarity in the recordings than what I had with the builtin microphone that comes with the iPhone. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs to make detailed recordings.
Hctor F –
Used for mainly for recording live music rock, blues, folk concerts and home instrumental and vocal recordings, not tried for purely classical concerts yet, although my last recording is of a rock band with full orchestral accompaniment. This is the type of item were you certainly get what you pay for having tried cheaper alternatives, the Shure MV88 is head and shoulders above the rest, as you might expect from the Shure brand. Once you have mastered the mobile phone app I use the iOS app on iPhone 6s and iPad Pro 9.7 which is worth taking some time over as the various setting are for very different recording environments and recording targets.Monitoring through headphones whilst recording can be a bit hit or miss with connection sometimes works straight away sometimes not but Im not sure whether that is due to the app or my iPhone, but whether monitored or not the recordings are accurate, crisp and clear with a very good frequency range and response, with little to no extraneous noise, even though the microphone is highly sensitive.Microphone gain is adjustable up to 36dB boost, as are other settings, microphone setup there are actually 3 mics within the head stereo width, compression, limiter, high pass filter, equaliser, wind reduction and leftright swap, with 5 recording environment presets. This microphone only works with Apple products fitted with a lightning connector and cannot easily be used if iPhone or iPad is in a case that restricts access to the lightning connector. Overall I am quite happy with this compact microphone.

Ive been using this Shure MV88 microphone for about two month now, primarily to record videos with high quality audio of my sons rock band performances. It does the job very well. I tend to use the 120 degree stereo setting and when I play it back on my surround sound system it sound awesome, as if Im back at the show listening amongst the audience. I have a more expensive Rhode VideoMic mic that I use on my DSLR and to be honest I usually get better results with the Shure MV88, at least prior to doing any editing. I find that Im doing almost no editing of the output from the MV88.My only complaint would be that the Motiv video app that goes with it on occasion really drains the battery quickly. In fact, the second time I used it my iPhone battery went from 90 down below 20 in a matter of a few minutes. Ultimately it turned out that something with the app messed with the battery display because a few minutes later when it got below 2 it still kept recording for about 30 more minutes, but still it went dead well before I would have had this happen without running the app. Draining that dramatically has happened only that one time, so far. Be aware that you can use the mic with the iPhone camera app to shoot videos and it will use the settings you last used in the Motiv Audio or Video app Ive tested this to be sure, and Ive had no similar issues with the camera app draining the battery. But you do lose the ability to change settings and see the audio levels real time if you use the camera app.

A nicely designed product suitable for quick and short recording when you are outdoors. Even with the protection pouch it is only the size of my palm super portable. If you have relatively newer version of Mac, then transferring to Mac for editing purpose is really easy. But for PC it would take a bit of detour when you want to transfer a recording to your PC
Chris C. –
I use this mic with simple projects for the institution I work for. From sound editing to private lesson recordings, its a quick and easy set up for without lugging out heavyexpensive equipment.

Excellent for playing and singing with acoustic guitar, especially with many folks doing livestreams these days. Easy to set up and really good sound for both voice and instrument. A great tool for someone who wants to make a simple decent performance video on their phone.
John W. –
We purchased the MV88 to create better sound quality in live streaming on FaceBook Live, when we updated our iPhone Xrs to iOS 14, the MV88 no longer worked on FaceBook Live Neither Shure nor Apple had a satisfactory solution WILL SURE CREATE A SOLUTION FOR THIS PROBLEM WE WANT OUR SOUND BACK Worked fine on iOS13… were not going back to iOS13 just to have our expensive microphone work HELP

I have been using Shure mics for decades. With the pandemic situation bringing playing out to halt, I was looking for an easy way to do online music videos. This is fast, easy, portable, and sounds great I am impressed with the sound unamplified on the acoustic setting, and using this on the loud setting close to my PA. With a bit of EQ, either way sounds MUCH better than the iPhone 11 Pro onboard mic. I did add a 6 USBC extension cable in order to place the mic in front of the PA and still have the phones video at a decent heightangle. The MOTIV video app makes doing a video a piece of cake. I run the video through Apples iMovie to trim the beginning and end, and add a title screen. Two enthusiastic thumbs up
Jazzt –
Make sure you check microphone input. Ive been a big fan of Shure products for years. This one is no exception. It has incredible frequency response. If you have a iPhone 10 or 11 you will not need a separate camcorder, Go Pro etc..
Mark O. –
I have this attached to an iPhone 10 and have used it to record a bands rehearsal, live vocals in the studio, ambient sounds at a live show and conversations. The dynamic range of the mic is surprisingly good, the quality is pro and the ability to adjust the mic pattern is very effective. Love this mic and will be using it on many other applications
Sam, N –
When I started using this product, I was not only glad that I didnt have to deal with any more audio dropouts on my regular phone mic, but I was also impressed with the high fidelity quality of the recordings Plus, the handful of presets that comes with the app makes it useful for any application I can use it to record scratch vocals in my bedroom, performances at live events, etc Overall, this mic has great quality and convenience for a decent price I would recommend this to any musician or audio engineer
Dean A –
After researching lots of microphones of several different makes, I was deliberating between the MV88 and the MV88 Video Kit. Even though the info pointed to the mics being used for iphone and ipad, I wanted the option to be able to connect to my macbook pro but I wasnt sure it would work as it was unclear from the Stationery Packs info. Only when I received the micvideo kit did I see in the info that it is compatible.I am a professional classical musician and wanted a decent mic that I could also record and teach online with. I would highly recommend. The video kit comes with two cables Lightning cable, USBC cable. I found them a bit short for what I need as I also use a separate tripod to the one included. I therefore purchased a longer USBCable.SHURE MV88 USE WITH MACBOOK PROIf you are using the MV88 with an iphoneipad, you can adjust the mic patternssettings in the SHURE MOTIV app. The MV88 works perfectly with my macbook pro. However, mic settings cannot be adjusted when used in conjuction with a macbook as you need the app as noted on the Shure website general info. However, the microphone does retain its last settings as configured by the MOTIV app which is great.MIC PATTERNSThe Shure MV88 offers various mic patterns and other advanced settings including Stereo, MonoCardioid, MonoBidirectional or RawMidSide pickup patterns.N.B When you record video on an iPhoneiPad, be aware that you will not be able to hear play back unless you remove the microphone wire.
Landry C. –
This mic sounds incredible. I wish it was a little easier to holdprop up for recording, otherwise would definitely recommend

Purchased the Shure MV88 Kit to produce livestreams during Covid 19 work layoff. Microphone and the Shure Motiv App performed beautifully for my needs. I really liked that you could change the settings for the microphone to fit whatever your audio source might be. Played a few outdoor shows and the foam windscreen was sufficient at minimizing wind noise. I shared some video to a good musician friend of mine and he had to buy one as well. Great product, highly recommend, thanks AMS

What an absolutely amazing mic for your iPhone. I use this mic for our band rehearsals and it records our band live as a whole with amazing quality. We cant believe how much clarity and response it has. We can hear all of our instruments blended perfectly. It almost sounds like a studio cut demo. Worth every penny
Jeff S. –
DONT listen to those other reviews. Ive tested the MV88 and its an absolutely AMAZING piece of kit for mobile video production. I can easily recommend it to anyone looking for a flexible, professional mic setup for creating digital content, and this kit just adds a pair of legendary Shure IEMs to the setup. This mic is unlike anything else Ive plugged into my phone, and is easily worth adding to anyones mobile setup.
Scott R –
This is a great setup There is no better portable mic for phone on the market.. Cheaper and better does not belong in the same sentence. Love this mic and the apps that accompany it. Thanks for all your hard work Shure. Thumbs up from me
Shayne H. –
Makes a difference to voice capture and the app has various modes to capture the right sound. Tried and tested these and they are really good. Eg I went outside and it was windy and recorded on iPhone 7 without the MV88 and with and you couldnt hear the wind in my balcony va iPhone. In extreme windy conditions though you did hear some but that was expected as we were in NZ Milford sound and the wind that day was in all directions even my Osmo2 was in all directions coz the wind was strong So overall really good product and fit for purpose

This mic is great Ive used other Shure products before, but this is the first for a desktop microphone its great The quality clarity is awesome And easy to use just plug play like it says. 1010sweepstakes

My church is worshiping online because of the corona virus. I expected a better sound than my iPhone microphone, but the recording of the sound at 4 meters in front couldnt feel any difference in performance than the iPhone microphone. I am not using it, but I am wondering how to handle it.
Steve L. –
Well made product which comes in a a very robust and handy storage case. Easily plugs into the lightening port of the iPhone and has a green light which indicates when it is in operation. I use it for Zoom calls, Facebook Live and simple video recordings using the inbuilt camera app when playing the piano. On playback, it is noticeable that there is a much greater dynamic bandwidth to volume and expression, which makes for a superior listening experience. Worth the money imho.
Courtney H. –
Eh. It works ok. Reduced some of the tunnel sound I get without it, but not sure its worth the price. Not a huge difference. Also have to remove my iphone case to plug it in.
mathewwaynekoenig –
Its a great microphone. Its 100 perfect when using with your iPhone or iPad. With the Mac its good but I wish SHURE had an app to control the sound on the Mac for the microphone direction like it does for iPhone and iPad. Either way, glad I got it.
Kit B –
NOTE and this is a big one the microphone WILL NOT FUNCTION if you try to use it on FaceTime audio nor video.BIG BUMMER I teach piano remotely via FaceTime and was looking for a good microphone to enhance sound quality. OOPS
Brittany R –
This was exactly what I was looking for. Plug and play into my iphone. Nothing fancy. It has presets that work for me with my podcast recording. Or you could really dive in and customize. Perfect for me. sweepstakes

I bought the MV88 because I needed something for voice work on the roadI travel a lot but I often need to submit recordings for various projects and its too much of a hassle to carry all of my equipment. With the Shure MV88, this is no longer an issue. I pair it with the Dolby On app for professionalgrade audio clarity and more flexibility in file sharing. The biggest surprise for me was how often I use this tool for more than just gigs. I often take it to concerts or local performances to record the full experience, and its small size makes it the perfect buddy for these outings. The only downside is that you cant use this with most cases on your phone, but thats easily fixed with either a lightning extender or a special case for microphone attachments, such as the Moment filmmaker case. All in all, a wonderful gift to myself.sweepstakes
Mark H. –
If you thought the microphone on your Iproduct was excellent, youve never listened to a video with the Shure MV88 it takes it to the next level and then some….Do a lot of teleconferencing with the pandemic lately If so invest in one and your customers will thank you.
PleasantOctopus31274 –
The mic does not improve the audio recording of the music videos I make on my iPhone, it merely is just another method of recording. No better than the mic that is already built into my iPhone. I wasted my money.
Judson –
I use this exclusively with an iPad for Zoom and FaceTime. For image size, I only use the horizontal Orientation. The microphone only seems to adjust in one plane so, leftright is the only adjustment possible when using the horizontal orientation. Since I also play the guitar and sing for these online chats, it is difficult to tilt the microphone up toward the mouth and away from the guitar. The stereo adjustment in the horizontal orientation will be updown and not leftright.Much better than the builtin mic in all aspects. App very helpful and effective.
Jon –
Used this attached to my iphone for YouTube and Instagram recording and it eliminated all of the hollow echo issues with my recordings. BH promised it to me in 2 days on the West Coast and they delivered Great expereince with BH and Shure
sighingflosser –
Helps substantially with room echo and thin sound when producing podcasts or other online materials. Great sound for the home officeproduction studio on a budget.
Alex –
I have a new iPhone SE 2020 and I would say the overall sound quality of the MV88 is not much of an improvement over the recordings I got just using my builtin microphone. Good on Apple.I would say the primary benefit to the MV88 is the directionality multipattern options, which are helpful if you want to gain more control over how you capture audio in stereo.
Tracie P –
I purchased the MV88 mic for my iPhone 8 Plus to use when recording my vocals when Im creating a new song, to zoom and record videos for IGTV, Facebook and Youtube channel. The sound quality has been greatly improved when recording just my vocals for singing, speaking andor playing my acoustic guitar. The mic was very easy to install, use and I love the portability in the carry case

I previously had the MV88 with the lightning connector. That was much smaller and neater than this MV88, but it had two drawbacks that are corrected in the version handling noise and the limitations of the Lightning connector. The MV88 has USBLightning connectivity that futureproofs it and the mechanical noise, mainly generated by the connector on the non version, as you pan around taking videos, is much reduced. There is a significant price reduction on this microphone at the moment, less than onefifty pounds, and the kit you get in the pack is top quality.Although Shure specifically says this will not work with an iPad Pro I have successfully used it. It may possibly be buggy and you cant use the Shure Motiv app to set up the microphone you need a phone for that, but it does make recordings. I shall update this first impressions review as I gain experience.I have also used it on my Windows 7 PC. After plugging it in it took a long, long, time to find and download the four or five drivers it needed from Windows Update, but it eventually got there and the quality of sound on my Zoom meetings and recorded notes are vastly improved.
nosp12 –
I first bought the MV88 for IOS only for witch I paid about 125.00 not a great bargain, then I thought it might be that my IPad mini 3rd Generation might be the problem, so I went ahead and bought the MV88 pro for android and PC as well the issues are the same its hard to adjust halfway to where you can hear half decent sound then when you lock the settings they wont stay lock needles to say about close to 400.00 dollars on microphones and the sound recorded by my iPad or my Samsung mote9 is by far better quality than either microphone nothing but wasted time and especially money, I gave it two feeling generous but honestly it would be about 1
Ron B –
I do campaign consulting, mostly local and regional and weve began doing our own inhouse video work. The MV88 meets our needs perfectly. I used it last week on a busy loud roadside and it got just what I needed. Filtered out passing loud motorcycle and pickup with loud mufflers.

In terms of audio quality on an iPhone for a pre record its great. The sound is eternally better than the interval mic it is a robust mic with lightning connection which saves a lot of faff with wires and conversions . The biggest downside is that the mic ONLY works using the motiv app and ONLY when the phone is in flight mode. I tried to do a live radio interview and it wasnt until after did I realise the dropout was awful. It simply does not work on calls, video recordings, zoom FaceTime Skype or any other form of video and audio calls. Its good for pre record only, its terribly expensive for what it is given this limitation in functionality. So do your research on what you need a high quality microphone for. If you need to impress or raise your live game, this isnt the one for you. Sadly Ive only given 3 stars to what is a 5 star built mic.
UnderCurrents –
Weve avoided iOS recording because it has has seemed sketchy and not up to our broadcast standards. The MOTIV MV88 though sounds pretty darn good, its key benefit being that it is a take everywhere device. The MS record settings are a real plus and the app is good, though switching between screens to get quickly to RECORD requires fussing with a tiny menu. This can be a bit tricky out in the field with other things going on. We may switch to Twisted Wave as our recording app as it is perfect for our needs. The physical design is impressive, made with quality materials, though one must be careful not to torque the Lightning port by bumping the extend mic profile. So far, this hasnt been a big deal. Downloading through a normal iTunes sync seems impossible, always jamming iTunes. So instead, well be using DropBox, which offers a much more professional environment for offloading, syncing and sharing big audio files. The MOTIV app offers this option. One request for a future version would be the choice to record 2444.1 not just 48. Bottom line it wont replace the Nagra or Sound Devices, but will always be in the backpack every day for spontaneous situations andor broadcastquality backup.

I used the MV5 Mobile Recording Kit to stream our worship services on audio. Once we figured out how to adjust the equalizer and the compression in the app, the sound was great.
Techsavy3 –
I was never able to turn on the mic as there is no turn onoff switch. I downloaded the app as it says and recorded thru it but the light from the mic never turned on. So never used the mic I even ordered twice because I thought there was something wrong with it but same thing. Not even the associate from best knew how.

Have used this device on my Macpro laptop and the PS5 works flawlessly. Had some problems interacting with an integrated headset and streaming, but likely due to some discord and headset interaction.
MR J C –
Very nice, feels well built and produces much better sound than the iPhone 7 internal mic. Does it produce excellent sound like a larger Rode Well, no but then you cant expect it to when you compare sizes. It is fairly easy to use with the Shure app installed on your phone but do remember to turn your phone onto airplane mode or you will get cellular signal noise on each and every sound recording you make. I use it with iMovie or just record sound using the iPhone native sound app its dead easy to export recordings into iMovie when youre done. I did read in other reviews about some compatibility issues with third party apps but I dont use them so cant comment.Really good quality sound though.

At a troubling time during the covid19 break, all of my studies were moved to an online format. As all students this presented many troubles, but as a music performance major it seemed almost impossible How was I supposed to continue receiving and giving lessons when all I had was a cellphone After talking with some people I was recommended the MV88 and I do not regret my purchase. It comes in a perfect carrying case which I wish was a little more squared off than rounded but thats personal preference that fits nicely into any backpack. Having to record myself for the lessons I was receiving, those that I was giving, personal projects for myself AND others, as well as drumline auditions for my university. Within the first week this product was a life and grade saver. I live off being able to record myself and watching it back to get better at my craft and having the ability to quickly record with my phone and have amazing quality is such a plus. Paired with the two apps I can get crisp audio quality that is synced perfectly with my phone. The mic has many components that are metal and I have no doubt in its durability. The only downside is having a thicker protective case on my phone I did have to remove it from the case to record. Maybe Shure can come out with a product thatll be able to attach to or grab hold of a phone case and have the mic mounted and connected to the phone via a cable. Overall I love the product and will use it for years to come sweepstakes

This product is easy to operate to get quick quality audiovideo recording using your phone. Also good for boosting tour mic during zoom calls. Wish there was a USB included

Looking to improve the onboard mic on my Apple iPad 4 mini, I opted to give this Shure a try. As a gigging musician, I have used Shure microphones exclusively over the years for my vocal and instrumentamp applications. Using my iPad as a portable recording device, I wanted a quality condenser mic that would perform well and be easy to setup. Wow, I wasnt disappointed Basically, this mic sets up as a plugnplay and can literally be used immediately straight out of the box. Sounds fantastic especially when using headphones. Look forward to getting more into this mic in different situations, environments and applications to see it can really do.
DavidM –
Yes it does but ONLY in specific conditions and circumstances. You will appreciate this mic if you are an audiophile WITH specific purpose… like when you need to apply a specific recording pattern in an environment where the recording conditions are not optimal. Other than that, most average users will have rather hard time to notice the difference between results provided by this vs regular mic on latest iPhone models.
Kevin K –
I purchased this for my daughter but havent had a lot of time to play around with it. It seems to do exactly what I had hoped, and that is for her to be able to record vocals in Garage Band with better quality.
Fin R –
I bought this for my home office plugs straight into the mac and off you go. I use all the video conference platforms Teams, Zoom, Google etc and it works perfectly. Also needed a voice over recorded for a promotional video we were producing we used the MV5C with GarageBand and the quality was perfect.Great value highly recommended

I got the small mic for my iPhone Its a huge improvement over the built in mic Its worth the price Small and portable Nicely made With quality case
Arkle –
Seems pretty good. The only glitch I found was that the software, MOTIV Video recorded the video on its side when I had fixed my iPhone7 to maintain a portrait aspect ratio. Probably my mistake but it would have been helpful to have known in advance.
Erik B –
The MV88 kit got me some great sound outside for audio and video on a recent trip. Its easy to use and the apps give you lots of options. I recorded really clear birds in the jungle, crickets at night, and it picks up a lot of subtleties in the human voice for narration or singing.
Boyd –
I use this to record my church services. I use the software to configure cardio sound waves and select alternate sound types to optimize my recording sound. This mic has been a great solutions for me recording church services on my Iphone.
Sarah, P –
Very high quality microphone easily plugged in to your work from home setup. It took me a few days to figure out all the features, but now that Ive got it set up Im very happy with it. Im just using it for zoom calls, so cant comment on its quality for recording podcasts or videos.
Hunter S –
In terms of microphone quality, this is the best you can get for a phone microphone that Ive seen. The integrated audio app MOTIV audio is fairly robust and works well with various needs for specific uses. My only critique is that I have to take my phone case off in order to attach this microphone, so I wish the connector base had a farther reach to eliminate this hassle. However, this is still a very good quality microphone. I love the case that it comes with as this makes it easier for me not to lose. sweepstakes
Jimmy –
If you are looking to improve sound quality wether you are streaming your church service or recording it. My only complaint is that you have to take your phone case off in order to use it. However, I was able to find a lightinging extension cable online Cellularize and a hot shoe mic mount Boya and now I can mount it on top of my iPhone. While the MV88 was not meant to mount this way it works fine. No more taking off my iPhone case, just mount and plug in. Now it works like the MV88plus.

Big fan of this Mic. Ive been using it to sample guitar recordings and on the go Ideas. Love using it for field recordings and anything I dont have time to set a mic up for. Would highly recommend.

I was looking for a mic to record myself doing acoustical music sets for FB live feeds as well as recorded videos. Im not a sound tech, but Im a good musician where I want some quality without the hassle of computer Setup and all the bells and whistles. After looking around I saw the MV88 product and loved the idea of it being quick, easy, and very transportable. I got the product within a few days. Easy to figure out and has an app that is designed for it. I did a FB live session that evening and made an immense difference. Ill be learning how to tweak it further in the app for quality. I highly recommend if you want something easy and quick
Raj R. –
Its nice and compact. Recording through the mic is pretty decent. The software app hangs often and prevents a quick start. Needs the phone to be rebooted.Sensitivity could be better.
Dave M –
Sounds great. Wish the design worked while the phone case was on. You have to remove phone from case to use mic. My other iphone recording software has more functionality. But for sound quality and portability, its good for a decent price. Id recommend but advisedly. If its what you need and you dont mind the limitations, Shure makes great mics.

Once I realized my issue was my phone case everything has been working perfectly. Great audio sound and I love all the different settings. I am mostly speaking directly into mic but am looking forward to picking up ambient sounds and some music. Thank you all so much and I definitely recommend for new iPhone with the video quality.

We have used this mic for recording the music for our church services. Have used it with vocalists, guitars, piano and a djembe. The MV88 has improved the quality of our sound. Love how compact it is and that it can be used on any iPhone. The app is good, but still trying to figure out how to get the best quality when using the mic. One downside is that I have to take off my phone case to use it. Overall, I would recommend this mic.

Great little mic that really improves sound. Love the fact it is small and just plugs right into your iphone. If you have a case on your phone you will have to buy an adapter so you can pull in. Overall. Good buy.

Solid. Does not have a dial to adjust inputgain but that can be done in app but then youve switched from your recording app if youre doing it while recording. Allows for a few different types of recording. Can be flipped to the other way if you need. Stores wont have this likely so youll need to wait for shipping… I should come ack after longer use and exploring. The case is excellent an egg with a zipper

This small mic captures sound perfectly. The app has all the settings you would need depending on what youd like to specifically record. Easy to use and perfect for its purpose. Showed it to a Sound Engineer whom was impressed. Thanks, Shure Sweepstakes

I was very impressed with this mics possibilities and once I got it home, I quickly realized some major flaws. First though, let me say that the mic quality is astounding I did some test recordings and it is basically a studioquality condenser. The app lets you set the pickup pattern form 135degree stereo to cardioid mono and everything in between. However, I am returning it because of some major design flaws. These things should have been thought out before releasing it and they seem like really easy things to fix. First, you cannot rotate the capsule, and it only bends in one direction, so you have to unplug it and turn it around if you want to point it away from you. The base also has a weird shape that blocks the headphone output if you put it on one side at least for the iPhone 6. For iPads and iPhone 7, this is obviously not an issue. And worst of all, there is no true live monitoring. Yes, the app has a live monitoring option, but only for the app, and its actually a monitor of the digitized input with a slight delay. So whats the point For this kind of money, I expect basic features to be fully functional. Try again, Shure.

This product is amazing It does remarkable things before you even mention its size and portability The variability with the app to adjust the sound quality is unheard of for similar products. Then when you consider the prize There is nothing that can be done to improve on the mobile videoaudio experience than to have this product in your arsenal.

Quickly shipped. This rig captures great sound for phone made videos. However, its not a quick set up. So, give yourself a few minutes to set everything up properly before you plan on using it.
KELLY –
Great product. Built real solid and sturdy. Warning will not really work well with DJI Oso mobile 3 gimbal as the mic is has some weight and throws off the balancing mechanism for the gimbal. Other than that the set up is super easy and the software is pretty straight forward. Definitely would recommend
MotoMan –
This is a great little mic to improve over the built in iPad or iPhone mic. Quality is great but included software is limited disappointing that it does not include editing functionality. 3rd party software is required to make recordings you can edit and share.
Brice M –
I really like the size and it helps produce a better sounding product. I wish there was a way to have it connect and be used via USB. This would let me use it with a computer and my phone.
Linzi E –
I really expected much more from this for the price tag. The audio is pretty much indistinguishable from the phones internal microphone. I thought this product would amplify the audio and allow stereo recording. Disappointed as I am a long time customer of Shure. Would not recommend.

This has made a big difference to the audio quality when I am recording video, there is far more clarity and a greater bandwidth picked up by this mic. The app didnt sync very well to begin with but once it had it now works well, with the software giving you some very nice controls over the audio you capture. The App allows you to save your different presets for different uses which is handy, and the ability to refine to width of the audio capture by the stereo mic is also very useful, particularly if you want to focus in on a performance. The guid is very rugged and it comes with a very good protective case to carry it around with no worries of it getting damaged.

This is a great kit for those that like to do at home experiments like mukbangs or asmr for beginners. I love this kit with everything it includes to help you get started. Its great for vlogs as well
A Google User –
easy to use, the sound quality is great compared to my other lapel microphone. The sound is awesome, once the room is set up to absorb any rebound sound wave. Really happy with this purchase. Disclaimer. I am not a vlogger but having to learn this technology during COVID19 Crisis. so far very happy. thanks

I am a novice with these type of products, but I did not see a huge difference in sound. I did notice the bass sound was more compressed and less muffled. However no difference with everything else. When I used it there was not much outside noise so I dont know how well it does with reducing background noise.

Im a big fan of this mic. Im using it to improve the volume and sound quality of videos that I take on my phone. I also bought a 6 ft MaleFemale lighting connector its like 8 so that I can set the mic up in front of my guitar amp for better qualityvolume instead of plugging it directly into the phone. Its been a great and reasonable setup for recording music.
Rebecca –
Pros The microphone has really improved my sound for teaching online from my laptop. Ive also been making use of using of it for recordings from my phone.Cons The cables are quite short which restricts positioning. I will probably get some longer ones. The box also arrived a bit damaged but the product was fine.
jpheavy –
Im using the microphone with an iPhone X for the sole purpose of getting better environmental sound capture with less wind noise. Initially, I was getting a clicking sound which seems to have vanished once I put the iPhone X into Airplane Mode. Its been pretty good since I figured out a potential solution. Search YouTube for Shure MV88 Clicking Sound April 2018 to see my test results.

The church I serve as communications director has found itself in the position of needing staff to record a large volume of material independently so that we can take advantage of reaching our people online particularly out of the COVID crisis. iPhones do great for video, but as you know, the audio is adequate at best. Frankly, we werent that impressed with this mic when we saw it online, but it came highly recommended. We tried one, and weve been blown away by how well it works. The Shure MV88 does a terrific job of isolating the wanted audio, and giving us a clear, highly audible audio track to use with very limited artifacts. The apps are great as well even if you use an iPhone, we recommend using the MOTIV video app. The functionality and ease of use is perfect for a novice staff, and they have quickly fallen in love with this mic. The deadcat filter does a tremendous job in windy, outdoor settings. I highly recommend this mic for use with your iPhone video.
VALERIE –
I used it for an instagram live but the quality of the sound wasnt as different as just using my iPhone mic instead. For social media live performances I would not recommend.

A seamless stereo mic upgrade for iPhone .. step up your audio to make your movies sound like they look . Shure is a company with a vast history making pro microphones of high quality for many recording and performance applications so they were a brand I felt the best choice . I was not disappointed. Sound quality is balanced and true , use with downloadable apps that instantly link your upgraded microphone to your iPhone with ease . Very reasonable price point as well .

Ive been using this to make short voice recordings for meditation, and so far its working great. The sound quality for voice is excellent, Ive used the motif apps for adjustments, but am doing the recordings in garage band. Just wish I had purchased the MV88 so that I could connect it to my mac to use as a live streaming audio input. sweepstakes

Got this microphone to cut out background noise while I am on meetings for work. Great directional microphone. Setup was simple.
A Google User –
Its great for recording voice up close. Playingsinging with my guitar while videoing I have to space the mic out further to get myself in the camera shot. I havent noticed that big a difference from the phone mic spaced out 3 feet or so. Although Im not a professional sound tech so Im sure theres specific things that are better. However to my ear theres not too much difference. I love the way the app functions and controls the mic. Its easy to use and very versatile.

So Im not misreading these reviews, in 2016, jimmy aka mrbeast wrote a review on this product. Thats dope. If he did that today, it would sell out.
Rebecca G –
.. really impressed with this mic so far .. bought it to improve the sound on iPhone videos .. really easy to use and the associated apps are good .. Im even using it to record vocals for music tracks now in preference to my more expensive condenser mic .. the specs state that its not compatible with the iPad Pro but it works fine on mine .. you cant set the pick up pattern etc on the iPad but if you connect to the iPhone first and adjust the settings when you then connect to the iPad it remembers the setting .. a bit expensive but it works really well ..

This microphone is very easy to use with iOS devices, just plug in and use. The sound quality is significantly above the iPhone built in microphone verified so far with my iPhone 11, iPhone XS and iPad Air devices. There are a range of microphone settings available to choose from, suitable for different applications, all easily customized with Apps provided by the manufacturer. I used it so far mainly for live music recordings, and it performed flawlessly. The build is solid and so far it survived several average 11.5m height drops.

Portable, versatile, can be used in different situation. Some improvement could be made to the mic with the whole bundle, its quite bulky compared to the previous version I wish I could change the mic settings directly from my macbook. The cable is too short for the macbook. Overall, its a good mic.

Far out, this is an awesome mic This is a must have guys. I left my studio at home to travel for a year, but I HAD to find another recording solution on the road. The mic itself captures my acoustic and vocals wonderfully. With the shure app to choose the mic configuration and options for compression, limiting, EQ etc, this is honestly an incredible package. Im convinced I could produce a studio quality acoustic album with this mic alone and do the rest in my DAW. This is THE iOS mic dont think twice
Don A –
I really like this microphone. When sending audio or a radio station I recorded audio with this microphone on my iPhone, while recording in a studio audio booth. When I sent both .wav files to guy he radio station, they could not tell the difference
John S. –
Great little mic for my iPhone much improved sound capture, solidly built Shure quality, Nice case to protect the mic. Only negative is that I have to remove my iPhone case to use it. Maybe an extender or not
shelsleybeauchamp –
This does capture the sound in a room with a singer and and acoustic guitar really well on video. The app does have a decent effect on the sound, i.e. you can here the difference when using the capsules in various modes. Good for having great sound on the video, but if you recording for a demo, use a battery powered condenser and use the lighting adapter. great for vids too hissy for multi tracking.
Liz G –
This mic is so perfect convenient for my business Excellent sound quality and not a bulky piece. Perfect
Travis S –
Ive been livestreaming our church services just using my phone. Some members said the spoken audio was too hard to hear. After using this I checked back with them and they said the difference is night and day. They can hear clearly even when watching the stream on a laptop with weak speakers. Im satisfied and wish I would have bought it sooner.
mistihd003 –
This Mic has been amazing You must get the app that goes with it to really get the full sound quality. From music to blogging or interviewing it is just absolutely fantastic. Highly highly recommended from a very tough customer to please.
Jan S. –
I was skeptical about this product but thought I would try it. It was pleasant surpriseGood pick up of voice and piano.I dont much like the MOTIV software because there are really no controls. Using thus mic with garage band is awesome.

At last, I am untethered from the weight of bulky sound recording equipment to get professional quality sound. As digital phone cameras improve so must sound. This is the solution. Thank you so much. Professional standards.
Anthony S –
I bought this product for zoom, skype, and microsoft teams. I was getting frustrated with the computer microphone and other PC to usb microphones. This product has exceeded my expectations on both performance and aesthetics.
Martin K. –
I bought this for high quality voice sound when vlogging and for outdoor natur reacording. A fantastic portable microphone solution. Highly recommended, great sound. I took off one star because the Motiv audio app has a bug which sometimes cuts off monitoring feedback you get when using headphones with the microphone on my Android phones
Charles P. –
I record music, and this phone microphone attachment is truly amazing. The software programs that it comes with are easy to figure out, and have made my phone a professional video machine We all have had decent video quality on our phones for a while, but thee sound was lacking in a big way. Now, this microphone has made the audio as good as the video. Bravo Bravo
Alison F –
As far as I can see the app will not allow selection of 2x zoom. All it will do is zoom in using the standard lens, resulting in far lower resolution than you would get with the tele lens. The instructions and service on this product is nonexistent and when I asked for help I got a reply blaming the iphone. This product is now being returned.

I bought this microphone to record myself and my daughter playing the piano. It is quite easy to use it plugs directly into an iPhone or iPad and makes recordings of surprisingly good fidelity, especially impressive since the piano is notoriously difficult instrument to record well. Does it produce recordings of professional quality No. There is a reason studios use mics, mixers, and preamps costing thousands of dollars. But if you are looking for the most convenient way of making a good recording of live music you are not going to do better than this small stereo microphone the phone you are already carrying around in your pocket.

I need to remove my iPhone case to use this microphone. Nowhere in the descriptions does this say this. I had to spend extra money to buy a lightning plug from Apple in order to use this. Very unhappy.
Daniel L. –
Very easy to use, great sound quality and a solid and compact design. Also, a reasonable price. Short of a professional setup, I think this is the best way to achieve decent sound quality with an iPhone.
C, P –
this is a very good compact, portable mic. 4 starts because its not perfect quality, but its the best you can get for the size and portability which is great. I dont love the apps the mic came with, especially the video app it drains phone battery and has a delay when startingstopping a shot.
Jesus –
The MOTIV MV88 is all around amazing. It super portable and comes with a case, so thats a plus. Super clean and clear sound with adjustments for every kind of setting. Definitely recommend.
EK –
The microphone does a great job conveying clear sound with my speaking voice on my IOS device. The wind guard is a a great accessory cutting out embarrassing ambient noise when I am trying to make a video on the fly while outdoors. Nifty little case. I use this often and appreciate it boosting a mire professional presentation that fits in my pocket. Keep up the good work SHURE
Cam M –
Excellent product. Easy installation and configuration with Zoom. Fixed an echo problem I had with builtin microphone on my Logitech webcam.
LarryT –
Just be sure to install the Shure apps recommended. You will probably need to make minor seeding adjustments.
Tamara G –
This is a really versatile mic, although may be a bit much for a casual user. Anyone who appreciates recording live stereo at 24bit on their iPhone will likely appreciate this mics capabilities and results.
Khanh –
I dont see any big difference between using Shure MOTIV MV88 and my iPhone 7 mic. I have tested multiple different ways but still did not convince me to have it. In additional, very important, there is no plug in to charge while recording in case your battery ran out because the MV88 is there, unless you buy any adaptor with 1 male and 2 female. But i dont see anyone test it like that yet
Nathan W. –
This thing sounds great and couldnt be easier to set up. I use it with GarageBand on my iPhone 11 to record raps to go with beats. The wind screen it comes with is fantastic and cuts my P. pops right out. This is my default mic Zipper case makes it easy to throw in my backpack too. Highly recommended.
mphat123 –
Absolutely love this microphone, and app that it comes with. Once you set recording pattern and gain in Shure app it can be used with native iPhone voice recorder and other apps just by plugging it in and settings remain. Didnt have much interference during wifi and mobile phone connection. Bought Zoom IQ7 before this one and Shure MV88 is by far superior in any regards. Absolutely recommend.

I have been using this for a few months now and I can see it greatly improve the audio and recording. The companion app really give you a lot of control over this microphone. Five stars for sure
STEFAN –
Great mic for quick demos or recording band practice. Sounds surprisingly good as a close mic on an amp as well. Very powerful combined with garageband on iPhone.
