To my untrained eye, this lens is very sharp. I use it for wide angle automotive shots. I do wish however it had a focus lock button like other Sony prime lenses. Other than that its a great all around prime lense for street photography.

Do you have a sony crop sensor Forget carl zeiss 50mm 1.4. Get this. Image quality identical. Only difference is 34 stop in apeture which is indescernable. Same angle of view as cz 50mm on full frame. Beautiful sharpness, bokeh and saturation. Most of the shots take my breath away. Better than my sony 1650 2.8 in picture quality. Just dont drop it. What a gem thank you sony

This is a very compact lens compared to a lot of other 35mm primes from other companies. The autofocus is loud, but it is fast and accurate on my a6300. Wide open, this lens is a little on the soft side, with maximum sharpness being found at around f5.6Despite its slight issues, Id still recommend it over the Sigma with similar stats, mainly because the Sony is stabilized.

I love this lens. Ibwas looking for a lens to start some portrait photography and after some research decided on this lens. Eventhough it is a 35mm, on an APSC camera like my A6400, the focal length will be closer to 50mm full frame. The lense lets in plenty of ligh for daytime indoor pictures and is great for outdoor portraits as well. If youre looking for more scenic shots, then consider an 18mm lense. Build quality is superb, and pictures are sharp. The lense is the perfect size for a grab and go on the fly session which is what I tend to use it for. And portraits of my young toddler.

This 35mm 1.8 is wonderful addition to my NEX lenses. I am currently using my 1855 kits lens and a Voigtlander 40mm 1.4 prime lens. Sharpness is up to par to my Voigtlander if not better. Main difference is this lens is autofocus and the Voigtlander is not. So far Ive used this lens for about 2 weeks, the one thing I do notice is when using this lens in low light that in some occasions, it tends to hunt the subject when focusing. I dont know if this is more because of the NEX7 or the lens itself. But once the subject is in focus, the subject is incredibly sharp when zoomed in. During daylight, the lens is fast. This will probably be my main walkabout lens and the Voigtlander as my backup, mainly because it a manual lens. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to add to their NEX lens collection.

Our camera group set up some top digital cameras on the same tripod for a side by side comparison at same f stop, iso, and crop. The Sony 35mm fixed lens clearly delineated a power line 0.5 miles away. A premium not kit zoom lens on a full frame camera did not. Not expensive at all when you factor in performance. And I like moving around to the best location to shoot more thinking, better pictures.

This is an incredible lens. Ive always dreamed of being able to take photos that actually resemble the same image Im looking at through my eyes, even when its night out. Taking a picture of a litup restaurant sign in the dark, I had to set the aperture to 2.5 because 1.8 made it too bright. I am so happy I bought this lens. The images it produces are sharp and can be quite vibrant even on my Sony A57. I suppose the focus ring could be a bit bigger, but that is really only a minor complaint when I think of what this baby is capable of. It makes for some awesome video quality as well, which is the main reason why I wanted it. It will definitely be on my camera the most out of the lenses I have.

I purchased at Best Buy along with an a6000 with the 1650 kit lens. I found the 35 an essential walking around lens, as 35 and or 50 primes are the most recommended for first time lens upgraders. This lens in compact and light but finely not insubstantial, as it is designed for the APSC sensors a6000, a6300 cameras and not for the fine full frame SONY a7 series. I knew what i wanted based on another DSLR system and various lenses for it.If you are skilled at selecting focus modes and points, you can use it opened up fairly wide and get a sharp shot, or stopped down somewhat and get nice bokeh which is contrary to what is commonly first though of as what fast lens does, but that is what good glass can do.

This lens is great for an older set of eyes, the autofocus feature insures a sharp image every time. I normally use old Leica lenses with adapters on my Sony, but for catching an image on the fly, this is the ticket. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this product, the lens image quality is wonderful.

Just took it out for a two day trip in the mountain. There was a lot more smoke there because of nearby fire. But, it still performed well. The images are sharp. I like this lens.

I use this lens for everything right now, and i havent met a task i cannot complete. I have done 2 model shoots with this lens exclusively, and countless other general photography projects. The best things with regards to this lens are the build quality, auto focus, and image clarity. First off the build quality… this Lens is SOLID but not heavy at all, nice all metal body and really smooth focus ring for when you want to go all manual. Next we have the auto focus, this is a big thing for the sony mirrorless line, and on my A6300 it is easy to see, so many different options for focus area size on the camera alone, and no matter where it is set the lens is super quick to pick up and hold focus. Lastly the image quality, Sony is newer to the lens game but by god they are fast approaching Nikon and Canon quality lens. While they dont have the wide range of various lens availability, most of what you need is available as a sony native lens, and this prime is a Prime example of the great quality, the tack like sharpness is amazing. For me the only draw back is the price point, and its only because i am a broke college student so i was only able to buy this one lens… but if you can only get one lens this is the jack of all trades in the sony line that can take you all the way.
Life in motion –
The lens performs wonderfully. The IQ is good the focusing speed is fast it also focuses quietly, which is good for video although my standard is low, coming from a Canon 50mm f1.8, which is noisy as hell. The only turnoff is the high price. I compared my copy against an SEL50F18 of my friends. Here is my take, for whatever its worth.Pros 1 smaller and lighter than SEL50F18 2 The focal length is friendlier to indoor shooting than the 50mm, which is a tad too long on a crop body 3 focusing seems to be faster on my a6000, but keep in mind that is probably because I didnt update the 50mms firmware to the latest version. Cons 1 You cant escape the fact that, for two similarly built lenses, the 50mm is cheaper than this one 2 the 50mm also seems to be a little sharper based on my limited and unscientific testing. I ended up with more infocus pictures of my oneandhalf old daughter with the 50mm.Overall Im happy with mine, but can only give it 4 star for the comparative disadvantage against the 50mm. But the focal length ultimately won me over.

Great lens. Nothing to complain about, as it does its job perfectly. My only nitpick is the manual focus is reeeeeeally slow and takes several full turns of the knob to get the focus where you want it, so stick to auto focus. Otherwise, this is the lens you want if you are taking pictures indoors and dont really have ideal lighting conditions, as the F1.8 lets in as much of the available light as possible, and the 35mm is great if you are less than 10 feet from your subject I would use the 50mm if you are 1020 feet from your subject. I use this for birthday parties with my family, which are usually at night and indoors.

This prime lens makes the perfect companion to my Sony A6000. It works great in low light conditions, AF works very fast and accurate. The build quality is great, and the manual focusing ring feels smooth and very responsive. The color rendition and the bokeh from this lens is absolutely beautiful. I spent many hours reading reviews comparting this lens to the Sigma 30MM. I chose this over the Sigma 30 because of its compact travel size and optical steady shot. I am glad I did….the whole purpose of a travel size A6000 series camera is to keep it light during travel.

For the price, this lens is excellent. I bought mine second hand and it arrived in near mint condition. The body is plastic but still durable and makes the lens very light. The glass takes great photos and the f1.8 aperture is quick. Ive also found the SAM on this lens is quick as well. For comparison, I own a 24mm Zeiss and while this lens is not as good as the Zeiss, the difference isnt that great and the Zeiss is a lot more expensive. All up, its a great lens that gives you a lot for the money, that I love to shoot with and dont plan on selling.

This lens is just average. The Sigma 30mm is sharper at f2.8, and at nearly a third the price its a much better value. If you can do without the extra stop and image stabilization, skip this one until the price comes down if it ever does.Additionally, I think the color of the lens is ugly. Its somewhat shiny so it doesnt really match the matte finish of any of the black NEX bodies. You end up with a shiny black lens, silver lens mount, and a matte black body. Ugly. And if you have a camera body that isnt black it just looks ridiculous. Why did they start making lenses that only come in black while still releasing different color bodies with a silver lens mount It doesnt make any sense at all.

Quality Sony Lens with all the advantages of the E mount for NEX and a50006000 sony cameras. OSS and Auto Focus work flawless with this lenscamera. In comparison to the kit kens, f3.5 the f1.8 allows for more light reaching the sensor thus enabling faster speeds in low light, making it an ideal indoor lens without a flash. It is not a telephoto lens, but a great lens addition to your DSLR as a primary lens.

I purchased this lens to take graduation photos of my daughter from college. I love this lens with my Sony A6000 The images are crisp and clear giving a beautiful bokeh. 35mm is a standard lens for both photo video. The clarity and stabilization provided by the lens, along with the low fstop and lightweight makes this a great buy to add to your camera bag. Highly recommend for those who often shoot in low light and on a budget.

Pros Did quite a bit with photography as a youngster, but just coming back to it. To begin with, I wasnt sure if the improvement over the kit lens would be worth the cost. Then I read many reviews saying the lens is amazing, they were glad they bought it, and they just dont want to take it off. Now I too think its amazing, I really am glad I bought it, and I definitely dont want to take it off. No zoom, so I move around quite a bit to frame the shot, but its more than worth the tradeoff for the image quality, shallow depth of field, and overall subject proportions. Everything taken with my smartphone looks slightly weirdly fisheye now. Really great for video, my primary use case, which I had some doubts about. Im using it on an a5100.Cons Not quite sure why the price point is that much higher than the SEL50F18

While I could get low light shots, that was great. But I wanted a wide angle lens and this is not, in my opinion, a wideangle lens. So this is not a bad review by any means. I was looking for a walk around lens for my Alpha 6000 and, although there are some less expensive normal prime lenses out there, I chose the Sony 35mm f1.8 OSS. Build, fit and finish are beautify. But most importantly, the photos are superb. I wanted to discipline myself and not use a zoom lens since I felt myself getting lazy. I made a good decision.

Used this 35mm lens on an A55. Creates beautifully soft images when wide open 1.8 fstop with center area remaining sharp in low light. At around 5.6 fstop and up, corners become very much as crisp as the center. Shallow depth of field shots low fstops yields gorgous blurs, a smooth wonderfully supple quality in the way it intermingles colors next to one another. This lens has really met my expectations so far. I have not had time to use it a lot, but the pictures I have taken are fantastic. The lens is very quick to focus, the image is very sharp, and the colors are vivid. Close ups seem to be as good as a macro lens might achieve. I dont have a macro, so I can do a accurate comparison. I would buy again for sure.

I upgraded to this lens from the Sigma 30mm f2.8 DN lens. While the Sigma was great, I was looking for a faster lens with higher build quality and image stabilization. This lens was a big step up. The build quality is very good. The image is clear with beautiful contrast and color. Excellent bokeh and a great focus ring that allows smooth, quick focus pulls much better than the ring on the Sigma. The autofocus is fast and accurate. The OSS is enough to allow for handheld video without shakiness and Im sure will help with stills as well. I was primarily concerned with its benefits for shooting 4K video on my a6300 which lacks internal OSS. There is a very clear improvement. The small form factor coupled with a great focal length and robust features make this the perfect everyday lens for any of the NEX, a5000, or a6000 line of cameras.

I read many lens tests and review before settling on this as my starter lens. It seems to live up to the professional evaluationsit is fast and sharp. It does have a plasticky feel. Perhaps I notice this more because I started in phorography when everything was brass and glass. On the other hand, the lens is light, and the total package a6000 and lens is very portable and easy to handle.

Over more than 5 years of NEX5R and now Sony A6300, I have been using kit zoom lenses . I decided to try this prime lens. I have not had the lens very long but i think it is great.1. Since, it is not a zoom, i have to learn real photography step up or away from my subject.2. Good bokeh3. Sharp photo.4. I can get in pretty close.5. I use this with the Sony A6000. The lens itself is beautifully made. The size is nice and compact. The focal distance is versatile enough that you can take portraits and some mid shots. Produces beautiful, sharp images. the built in OSS helps a bit when I try to take short video clips although you still have to consciously steady your hands when youre not using a gimbal or steady cam.

This reliable little lens is such a gem I did take the plunge with this one, as at the time there were very few reviews and photos that I could use to see exactly what quality I would get.Having bought it primarily for low light street photography, Im over the moon with the OSS and the results Im getting from it. Very stable results, even on handheld lowlight, which is great as it means no tripod to carry around town. Video also looks very polished and very little to no noise, depending on what modesettings you are using.I would recommend it, although I do think the price is a bit much… But if you like it, why not

This little lens can produce fantastic images in terms of sharpness, CA, light fall off, bokeh, etc all despite of its very affordable price.That said, its made of plastic and feels rather cheap and fragile in your hands, but if you think about its retail price… its really not that bad, and definitely worth every penny when you see the images it can produce I only wish there was a window for the scale, but those only appear on higher priced lenses.Being a prime lens, the sharpness in its images are fantastic and if you dont need the SSM, definitely save yourself over a grand and buy this lens instead of the G series 35mm.

I bought this lens because I do photography at night and needed the wider aperture and a lighter lens. My other emount lens is the Sony Zeiss 1670 mm zoom lens. Because the 35 mm lens is a prime lens, I expected better resolution. My findings when shooting a lens test image using a tripod are as follows comparing to the Zeiss zoom set at 35mmAt f4 maximum aperture for the 1670 lens the 35 mm lens was sharper, but had a large amount of chromatic aberration. The Zeiss zoom lens had no CA.At f8, the 35 mm lens was somewhat sharper than the 1670 zoom lens, and still showed chromatic aberration, but less than at f4.at f11 the two lenses had similar resolution, but the 35 mm lens still had slight chromatic aberration.at f16 the lenses gave indistinguishable results, and were diffraction limited. Resolution was less than at f4.The sharpness of this lens wasnt quite as good as I had hoped, and the chromatic aberration was large. On the other hand I now have a lens that opens up to f1.8 and has OSS. Another option Zeiss Touit 32mm lacks OSS and costs 80 more than the Sony 35mm lens. Check photozone.de to see whether it is worth the extra money.Adorama is definitely the vendor to buy this lens from. The other popular large New York camera store and the largest online retailer are selling the same lens at the same price, but Adoramas bundle is a real sweetener for this deal. The filters are necessary, and the lens case from Lowepro is useful, if a bit large for the 35 mm lens. It is just right for the 1670 mm Zeiss zoom lens.

Really sharp pictures from this lens, you wont be disappointed with it. 2.5 inches in diameter, 1.8 inches long without hood and super light weight. The lens is made of plastic but its the glass elements that matter. Superb Bokeh and super at infinity, If you can get it for around 90 its a no brainer.

The SONY 35mm F1.8 is a great lens because it is close to what the eye sees. 35mm is a natural focal length and the lens features a fast aperture at F1.8. I used the Sony 50mm and found the focal length to very narrow. Making it difficult for wider angle. The 35mm makes a decent portrait lens as well. In low light conditions the lens shines and produces nice bokeh.

Im relatively new to photography but i did a lot of research before purchasing this lens and i gotta say it was worth every penny. I currently own an a6500 and this lens absolutely does the trick for me. Impressive auto focus i know the camera helps too, great low light capabilities, and great bokeh all for under 500. I actually bought this after trying the canon 35mm f2 USM, and i definitely prefer this one, as well as the rest of sonys native line for apsc cameras. Definitely check this one out if you get the chance.

I decided to go with the 35mm lens over the 50mm. 35 lets you get more in the shot while being closer. I mainly take pictures of my daughter, playing, at Disney or just regular still shots of her posing for me. The light this lens allows in is amazing. I love how much more this lens looks than the lens I got with the camera bundle. Everyone ask what camera I am using. I tell the its Sony A6000 but I tell them its the 35mm lens as well.

Love this lens My goto lens as the images are super sharp, even in low light, and the bokeh is gorgeous 35mm on APSC forces me to fill the frame indoors, which is a good learning tool for a beginner like me. Also small and light so great to have on my a6400 body for street and travel photography too.

I purchased this in January when there was a sale. So far the lens takes great photos on my NEX 7 sharp, vibrant color and contrast. The only issue I have with this lens is manual focus. I also have the Zeiss 241.8, 55210, 1855 and 162.8. The focus ring is good to work with on all those lenses especially the zeiss 241.8. There is a huge price point difference maybe that is why the focus ring on the 351.8 is not great or maybe it is just my copy. The auto focus is slower than the zeiss as well and hard to get in low light scenarios when manual focus would have been great. I work around this with the flexible spot auto focus option that the camera provides. If the focus ring was easier to use, this would be a five star lens.

Awesome lens and a huge upgrade from the standard 1650mm kit lens that comes with the a6000. Being a prime you cant zoom in but the amount of light this thing is able to get fr that wide f1.8 aperture is insane Again, comparing this to the kit lens, its like night and day. Kit at 35mm is f5.6 vs f1.8. That alone is a huge difference.Very sharp as well, great color rendition and looks and feels great doesnt matter parts of it are plastic, its good quality.Also with the optical steady shot OSS, this thing is the real deal.It is pretty pricey, specially comparing it to the 50mm f1.8 prime which is just as amazing but as I understand it, the 35mm is more complex with more glass elements which is harder to make etc. I think its worth the money. I thought about off brands which are half the price, but you lose the OSS and its not as fast and bright. This lens has been my goto throughout the past year for street photography and general video purposes with my a6500. It is the perfect form factor for travel photos and performs fantastically with an ND thrown on the front if you want incredible looking DOF in video. The only complaint I have isnt really against the lens itself, as nearly all lenses in this category suffer from this, but the focus ring just is not very useful for capturing critical focus, and any amount of fiddling will not let you get perfect focus, even under the most controlled circumstances.

When you first pick up this lens you can see and feel where the compromises have been made to get a prime in at this low price point. Lightweight plastics and a plastic mounting plate not a lens that will take much abuse. But at this price its almost disposableOnce actually on the camera the cheapness in not apparent. The image quality is excellent what you would expect from a prime costing many hundreds more Pounds.The SAM focus motor is neither faster nor quieter than the screwdrive AF motor in my A700. AF speed seem to be more or less the same as with my 50mm screwdrive AF lens.The 35mm is ideal for Sony APCC cameras. I find my 50mm f1.4 to be too long for my primary use of indoor, lowlight shooting of group events. 35mm is much better for this sort of work.If you only buy one prime for your Sony, buy this one.

Performance This lens produces sharp images. The focus motor is quiet, iso is kept low with the wide aperture. Ergonomics This lens is lightweight, so it does not throw the camera out of balance or cause hand fatigue. The focus ring is wide, smooth, and easy to turn. Value Mediocre 30mm 2.8 other brand lens could be had for half the price, and would produce decent images. I see no real reason to own both 50mm and 35mm lenses, as they are both portrait lenses. I prefer the 35mm, but its not worth double the price in my opinion. Buy again I would never pay full price for this lens. If Sony ever comes out with a wider low light OSS lens at a reasonable price not zeiss price, Id buy that one in a heartbeat.

I know that many people who own this lens seem to get issues with color fringing, etc but in my experience this is often overstated.The lens itself is extremely well made, has decent sharpness you can get better, but it is still very good and has very little in the way of chromatic aberrations, distortion, etc especially once you get to an aperture of f2.8 or higher.The only issue I have with this lens is the price. When compared to other lenses of the same class for mirrorless cameras, its actually not too bad. But when compared to Sonys own 50mm 1.8, with the same features and possibly superior sharpness.. double the cost is a little difficult to swallow.That maybe harsh given that the wider the angle, the more costly it becomes to produce a high quality lens, but given this is a prime therefore simpler to construct than a zoom, given it is not a G lens and given that there are imperfections, 400 is too much.The Sigma lens it far better value. In mitigation the lens does have built in OSS, but some would argue this is completely unnecessary when the camera itself has image stabilization built in. Lens OSS is only really necessary if you intend to shoot video rather than take photos.If you dont have the funds to buy a wider angled lens of the same quality or a high quality zoom like the 18135 18105 then this is your best bet. If you can afford a bit more, then Id go with a 24 or 28mm for the increased versatility. If you really only want to shoot portraits then the 50mm is a far better option.. maybe even the 85mm. If you are very short on funds.. still the 50mm and liberal use of your legs. If you have exactly 400tax.. this lens.My personal choice is this lens and the 18135 or 18105 because it is the perfect frame size for the photos I take. If I was more of a landscape shooter Id replace this lens with a Sigma 19mm or the Sony 20mm. If I was a portrait shooter I would just get the 50mm or 85mm depending on how close I wanted to get to my target.

This is now my go to lens. I absolutely love the quick autofocus on this emount lens. It provides a nice bokeh as well. Not as precise as the 35mm Zeiss equivalent glass but at nearly 200 cheaper I couldnt justify the marginally better performance.

This is a very good lens for the price. Sonys higher end version sells for 1500, and doesnt offer 7 times the performance.Physically, this is a small lens thats made of plastic. The mount is plastic and that may be a turnoff to enthusiasts. This makes it super light weight.As for image quality, its not so great at f1.8 because of the soft corners and minor light fall off around the edges. But once you stop down to f2.8, its heaven. Great overall sharpness there and no light fall off at all.. Thats still plenty good for lowlight situations. My Tamron 2875mm f2.8 needs to stop down to f4 to match this lens. Distortion is minimal.The AF motor makes a fair amount of noise. Its not bothersome at all, but its obviously not good for video. Focus speed is good.It doesnt work on Full Frame, but thats a good thing because this would probably be horrible on a FF camera.If youre using a Full Frame camera, you probably wouldnt be looking at a 200 lens.

This is my first Prime lens, it took a little while to get used to it but once you do you will be rewarded. This lens works really well in low light situation, it does a terrific jobs at giving your subject a crisp outline, the Bokeh is very creamy and the colors are vivid. Because its a prime lens no zoom and is 35mm its best suited for shots which composition is the same as the eye would see. Its a bit pricey but the quality is noticeable and pleasing.

I had wanted a nice walkaround lens something like the 50mm everyone had on their 35mm cameras in the 70s. I tried the 303.5 Emount but was disappointed with the fstop limitations. So the 351.8 sounded just like something Id find useful. So far thats exactly the case its lightweight, the black finish is more subtle, and the f1.8 max aperture is just what Id needed.The big surprise has been the focus speed. Way faster than the other earlier Emount lenses I have. It still has the same issue as all AF systems in that it doesnt always agree with me about where I want it to focus, but then Ive come to accept thats just the way it is with contrast detect AF. A little tweak with DMF and Im good to go.I had thought Sony was going to build all NEX cameras and accessories in Thailand, but the SEL35F18 lens is from China. Looks like its going to set the bar for Emounts that follow.

The Sony SEL35F18 is a great lens for my A5100. I had the 50 but return it for this lens. In my opinion the 50 was a little to tight for everyday use. The 50 was a little sharper. But not by much. Both are excellent for video and low light. I know its a little pricey. But Im more than satisfied with the purchase. Im not a beginner. I do shoot pro photography. I highly recommend this lens.

Wow This thing takes GREAT shots. I use it with my Sony a6000, and it almost never comes off I would argue that the Sony 35mm f1.8 is the must have lens for taking shots of people with the a6000. for someone just starting out, if you can afford it, get just the camera body and this lens. the kit lens isnt that great at all unfortunately this thing is fast also, the focusing works brilliantly on this thing. its a little soft wide open but the colors are vibrant with little chromatic aberration. honestly, unless youre willing to spend 1k, this is the lens I would recommend for your daily go to, pull out the camera and shoot lens.

Havent fiddled with this lens too much yet, but the little I have, Im impressed, and already planning more photooutings with it.Attached to my NEX6, this provides a package that is just fun to use, especially with the camera set to A aperture priority. The f1.8 is fast, and means that this lens can take great images when light is low, and no flash is possiblealloweddesired. It also means great bokeh, and with the 35f18 lens, it is beautifully blurred in the background, while your subject is incredibly focused, meaning the subject is what you look at not so much the background.With its fixed focal length, you the photographer is the zoom. Move closer or further away to get the perspective youre looking for.Some have said elsewhere that the lens isnt the sharpest at f1.8, but my limited experience with it so far hasnt revealed any issues. Bought this lens on a recent trip to NY from London. BH is a real gem and one of the few places you can actually speak with staff who know their stuff and try different options. Ended up deciding on the 35mm lens which is the right balance of size, price and versatility. It is sharp, quick to focus and the pictures are a step up from the kit lens. Works great for portrait and general photography, although I sometimes wished it would be wider angle. I suspect this is a bigger step up than spending the same amount to upgrade for the latest Sony alpha camera.

Its a perfect fast normal lens on my Sony EA50 and FS100. Light weight and plastic but the video camera are heavy enough so thats a bonus for me… although for the price I figured it would be a little more solid feeling. I normally use a tripod but with the OOS its great being able to get some shoots on the shoulder that I may have missed setting up support. Absolutely razor sharp even at 1.8 1920 x 1080 I would expect I would need to stop it down a bit with high resolution still images… I can say it is sharper than my Nikon 50mm 1.4 wide open and even stopped down to 1.8 again in video Great little lens so sharp and so tiny I really should have bought one sooner

Must have lens for sony mirroless cameras, I have the Sony A6000 and have purchased multiple lenses for it. I found the 35mm to be the best in capturing clear and close up photos. Sometimes the camera can be fickle in focusing, so its very important to have a good lens like this one

I use this lens as an allpurpose walkaround lens. Its field of view in my NEX is about the same as a classic 50mm lens on bulky fullframe cameras. Thanks to a large max aperture and optical stabilization, this lens has been great for photography without flash in low light for example, outdoors in the evening or night, or indoors in softly lit areas like bars and restaurant rooms. Images are sharp at all apertures, although corners are a tiny bit soft in corners at f1.8. Bokeh is beautiful. Autofocus works well for me except in really dark or tricky situations. The lens feels solid.

Im a newbie to the photography hobby. With that being said, Im also strapped for cash so I am cautious on spending. This lens is definitely not on the affordable spectrum in my opinion but it is definitely affordable compared to higher end lenses.I have no regrets purchasing this. The lowest f stop this lens can handle is 1.8 which is great. Thats one less thing for me to work on in Photoshop. The colors are phenomenal and can auto focus pretty quickly. This also is quieter than the lens kit that came with the Sony NEXC3.This lens is great for close range photos. For portraits, its better to get the 50mm which is actually cheaper.

I spent a couple of days with this lens and several times the AF would freak out and lock up. Would have to turn off the camera and then it would work again for a while. The kit SEL1855 never does this so that rules out the camera body. This lens looked sharp when working though a bit too clinical for my tastes. The price is too high and with the issues I had I have little faith in the QC to try another. Ill stick with the kit lens, the Minolta and Voigtlander manual lenses I have aquired.

I am primarily a videographer, and purchased this lens for shooting video. The quick autofocus and image stabilization is perfect for the handheld gimbal shooting that I primarily do. The lens looks quite sharp even wide open, and for my purposes is more than adequate. Great depth of field and pleasing bokeh for a modern lens. If I wanted something more cinematic I would use a vintage prime manual lens, but the main draw for me using this lens is that its a Sony lens and it works flawlessly with the autofocus on my A6500 camera. Bottom line, I highly recommend it for videography when you are shooting a moving subject and dont want a more involved followfocus setup.

great lens. The focus is a little soft on the nex 7. I was expecting sharper but that could be adjusted on the camera settings. One problem that I have noticed. Even if I set my focus point on center and even if I repress the shutter button. The lens sometimes doesnt focus on the subject. After I try to refocus with autofocus 34 times and the lens cant seem to focus. I always keep the focus setting on DMF and manually focus on the subject. This is my second lens and first prime lens. At 35mm fixed, you really need to move around a lot to get different shots, and sometimes you might need to get really close to people. I shoot M.

This is a great lens for the money. Used on a crop sensor Sony camera its close to the standard lens focal length of the 35mm film format so perspectives look completely natural. Its the fastest lens I own, though at its widest aperture of f1.8 it can be a little soft at the edges of frame and youll notice some chromatic aberration and some loss of contrast though for portraiture this might actually be of benefit. I often shoot at f4 and the sharpness is really good far better than any kit lens youll have used. Wide apertures obviously emphasise shallow depth of field which is good when you want to isolate your subject, just make sure youve got the focus nailed. I regularly shoot closeups using this lens, at closest focus Id say the area covered field of view is about 7.5cm by 5cm so you can use this lens for macro work as well. I look after my camera gear so I expect this lens to provide many years of good service even though the mount is plastic like many other kit and inexpensive primes. If youve yet to try a prime lens Id definitely recommend you try this one.

I just got one of these. Been waiting for it for my Nex7. I was amazed. When I pressed the shutter there was a loud ZICK ZICK noise which had me baffled. I finally tracked it down to the aperture blades. They are stopped down to allow viewing of the depth of field but they jump open to meter and focus. Then they stop back down. ZICK ZICK. Hardly silent. You can hear it easily across the room. As in SOMEONE TAKING PICTURES OVER HERE Seems to kind of negate the purpose of a nice prime fast lens on such a camera format. It is present in manual, priority and speed modes. In manual it is more of a ZICK CHATTER sound also very nonsilent. Nice format, seems well built, good match to the Nex7, but a street format camera with a built in buzzer seems ill conceived.

I love this lens I use it mostly for mountain biking because its small and fits easily in my backpack. it takes great pictures. They are sharp. My only complaint is that it has a plastic feel and feels cheap, even though the build quality is great. Over all its a great beginner to intermediate lens.

The Sony lens is great. Very fast and sharp. Took on a trip and got good pictures. The accessories, however, are not so great. The ProOptic kit doesnt work well with this kit. The UV filter caused ghosting to occur especially in wideopen apertures, defeating the purpose of the lens. Often I had to take off the UV filter to get a good picture in lowlight situations. I would recommend the lens, but skip out on the bundled accessories.

The Sony 35mm 1.8 OSS is the best 35mm prime for the Sony Emount cropped sensor cameras for several reasons. First it has image stabilization which is a big plus for handheld lowlight photography Second it supports the hybrid autofocus system on newer Sony NEX cameras and future Alpha mirrorless cameras. Third, it is pretty sharp, has great bokeh, very little distortion. The lens is not perfect though. Lateral CA is higher than the 50mm 1.8 OSS, but lower than the sigma 35mm 2.8. The lens is also not as sharp as the 50mm 1.8 when wide open. To be more specific, the 35mm 1.8 at f2.8 is equal to the 50mm 1.8 at 1.8, in terms of sharpness. However the focal length of the 35mm on APSC cameras is better suitable for everyday photography, compared to the 50mm 1.8 OSS more suitable for special face only portraiture. Compared to the DT 35mm 1.8 for Amount, the 35mm 1.8 OSS is marginally softer at 1.8, but has lower CA. Also the bokeh of the 35mm DT is slightly more smootherbuttery.

The image quality from this little lens is simply outstanding at all apertures. The sharpness, contrast, and color from the SEL35F18 are simply outstanding. The bokeh is pretty nice, but you have to either get fairly close to your subjects or have a fairly large distance between the objects in the field of view for the bokeh to really pop. I have not used this lens much indoors, yet, so I cannot say much about this focal length in tight spaces nor how well it works in low light conditions. Since I have primarily used it outdoors, Ill observe that even at ISO100 on the a6000, there are many times in bright sunlight that the picture is overexposed if taken at f1.8, and you will have to stop down to f2.2 or f2.5. The physical form factor of this lens is superb, and a great match for the a6000. The combination is very nicely balanced together, and the lens itself is pretty small and unobtrusive. If anything, the petiteness of this combination does not look serious, which I suppose is a plus for the street photographer.

I wanted a better faster lens for my Sony Nex6 and this seemed to fit the bill, unfortunately thats the downside, for what it is its quite expensive. Having said that I am delighted with it.Within the range f2.8 to f11 I find it extremely sharp with very good contrast. At f1.8 it is a bit soft and that would not be my chosen aperture to operate at.No problems with the focusing.I made an A3 image of a stately home with this lens then cropped an A4 image out of it and when I showed it at my club, without telling anyone it was a crop, they thought the A4 was a good full frame image.

Ill start with the pros excellent for low light photography, including city shots, milky way, etc. Though it is only 35mm, I feel like you do achieve a pretty good bokeh effect for closer shots and photography. I use this with the Sony A6000.Major limitation that I do not like is the lens is not wide enough for landscape. In retrospect, I wish that I paid 100 extra for the retractable kit lens. Outside of joint cameralens offer, I dont think that lens would be worth the 200 plus they charge.

The Sony E 35mm F1.8 E mount lens performs as advertised. It is larger and heavier than I expected. It is larger than the kit 1855 zoom lens and heavier. But the extra glass pays off in low light and in street photo situations. It is a good lens for portraits as well.

We got this lens just before Halloween for our a6000 and I took it trickortreating with the kids after dark, obviously typical suburban Halloween, with lighting mostly from peoples houses. With the lens wide open and shooting at ISO 16000 or so, I was able to get some pretty decent pictures even without flash exposure times were on the order of 140 or 160. At smaller ISOs but longer exposure times I got some nice pictures of the adults in the party they dont move as fast as the kids.Auto focus in the low light was a bit slower than I would have liked, but I was pretty amazed I managed to get pictures at all.This lens has also been pretty good for evening indoor photography, even in more dimly lit rooms like our dining room.The one con Ive encountered is that the shutter click on this lens is pretty loud. But thats the case with other lenses I have as well.

I did a lot of research on the sony e 35mm f 1.8 oss lens before purchasing. I usually buy used equipment thru bh but this lens never came available so I strapped myself financially so I could have it for my trip to New Orleans in less than a month. I recently purchased a Sony a6000 for my wife and wanted to add a nice fast prime lens to her bag.On an APSC sensor like the a6000 a 35mm lens is equivalent to a 50mm lens on a full frame camera. This is a nice lens for street photography or portraits amongst other things. Because it can open up to f1.8, its great for low light work or for shots where you want a narrow depth of field along with bokeh.This lens is a nice step up from the kit lenses that came with the a6000 and is capable of producing some amazingly sharp and detailed photographs. Depending on your needs, I would definitely recommend putting this on your short list for a prime lens.

This covers street and some portraits so a very versatile lens. f1.8 gives great bokeh and lowlight performance that other alternatives might not have. The only real competitor for this lens would be the Sigma 30 due to its value, but for a little more, you wouldnt ever need to upgrade in the 30mm range if you bought this lens. I love the portability and size of the NEX6 and this lens is a fine acquisition. The stock zoom was really quite good and offered a nice wide angle for indoor and city shooting. I knew this 35mm lens would limit my wide angle shots but wanted to hone my composition skills with a very sharp normal prime lens. All my work with this lens to date has been a complete vindication of the decision to purchase it. It certainly satisfies the 16Mp of the NEX6. Without going through lab testing, the lens sharpness and lack of edge distortion for my fstop choices are totally satisfactory. I have complete confidence of capturing first rate images with this camera lens combo. The small lens glass within a large lens housing does look a bit odd.

The picture quality and depth of field coming from this lens is phenomenal. It can create amazing bokeh in portraits and also is wide enough to capture beautiful landscape shots. This lens is on my camera most of the time now. Great 50mm equivalent. Using as a general walk around lens, indoor shots with low lighting, and a little bit of portrait. Bokeh is nice. I have the kit lens and Sony 18200LE, but the image quality on this is far better. My first prime lens and it got me hooked. Now wanting other primes at different focal lengths.

Lets compare this normal focal length lens to others I have used for same purpose. This includes Leica Summicron and Summilux of 1950s, Nikkor F and Nikon DX lenses, and many in between. Not one of these other lenses had any advantage vs. the new Sony 35 mm. Handling and both autofocus and manual focus are on par with the best. Images are sharp and cropping proves this. I do not detect distortion or chromatic aberration. Weight is nicely light, and length is compact enough to suit all my needs, and would only have been surpassed by my 1930s collapsing mount Summicron. So I am fully satisfied. Compared to my last and most similar lens for its purpose, a Nikon 35 mm f1.8 DX, the Sony is more compact, has more solid feel, is optically equivalent, and has image stabilization, which the Nikon lacked, so I can hand hold for low light and stationary subjects out to about 15th second.

Adding the SONY 35mm f1.8 is a big relief since I photograph events where people are moving nonstop. Ive mastered manual focus since Ive done it for so long, but the accurate autofocus that this 35mm provides helps a lot. I decided to get it when I reminisced on how I used to love my Nikon 35mm f1.8 on the D3300 that I used to own before switching to SONY. I am so glad to have this lens and will put it good use. Upon mounting onto my SONY A7SMii, I noticed a hefty vignette around the edges of my frame when shooting video in 4K. This was for a impromptu shoot and I needed something fast. I ended up just shooting with the vignette and cropping in post. What I didnt know is that you can go into your settings and just adjust the optical zoom and crank out that vignette while still shooting in 4K. Might be worth it if youre on a budget and dont want to hit the 799 Sony 35mm which is fullframe ready.Overal, small compact lens. Lightweight. Sharper image than my old canon 35mm. Excellent in low light. Not a bad idea for photography.

I bought this lens just before the birth of my 1st daughter, for use with a Sony A6000 APCC, 1.5X crop body. Good bokeh, great with OSS and love the pictures it lets me take in low light conditions. Focal length worked excellent to take pictures in hospital of new born, mother 12 family members. Was considering SEL50F18 due to cheaper price so glad I finally went 35mm instead. 50mm would have been far too tight or distant interaction on many occasions in both hospital as well as home. With this experience my next lens will definately be a Sony 28mm f2.0 rather than 50mm f1.8. I definitely enjoy closer interaction and 28mm will allow for some wider context photos when baby grows older. Should also note I own kit lenses 1650mm and 55210mm, none of which I felt the need nor desire to use over the 35mm this first week with our new born.

Got it as a low light indoor event lens on my a6500. Would also like a 16mm f1.8 but do not see one I could use with auto focus. I am using the Sony f4 1670 which is great but need something faster.I am giving it 4 stars because It is very tight to mount. Not sure if this is a defect or normal plus I have not used it except around the house. After the indoor event next week I will have a better chance to evaluate it.

I wanted another lens to carry around for travel, and looked at the Sony 18105, read a lot of reviews and watched videos, and many of them mentioned the 40mm, as a fast, small, sharp lens. I finally decided that was the way to go. I took it on a 10 day trip, along with a zoom and a 12mm. The zoom never left the hotel, the 40mm did all but a few landscapes. It is great in many situations, much like the old 50mm that was on 35mm. You just reframe to get what you want out of it. The depth of field is fantastic stopped down or wide open. And the bokeh is quite nice. All in all very happy with the lens. Well balanced on the camera, and super sharp.

Im using the lens kit, sigma and MinoltaLens is light and very portable.Its sharpness is better than all other lens. He, its still not hair pin sharp. I like my Minolta 50mm 1.7f better,Color is OK.Anyway, its still a good and versatile lens with below 200, but Im not so crazy for it.

I bought my Sony a6000 without the kit lens and instead purchased this lens to go along. After much research, I found that this is a great upgrade from the kit lens for overall everyday use. So far Ive taken a students senior pictures, taken pictures of a vehicle for a for sale posting, and taken professional headshots. I found this lens to be exceptional in creating a pleasant, natural bokeh in portrait shots without compromising the sharpness of the subject. I have a backpacking trip coming up and I plan to take this lens along with me. I expect it to perform well. Overall I have no complaints with this lens and I think its a great addition to any a6000s camera bag.

I use this for a normal field of view on my Sony A6000. Fast autofocus, and nice bokeh, make the lens good for both capturing action shots as well as people shots. Small form factor complements the small size of the camera as well. At a wide open aperture, its not as sharp as some other prime lenses wide open, but sharp enough for nice people portraits. This lens is sharp, small, and fast.It is amazingly versatile, for taking portraits that pop, with amazing bokeh, and even in low light, this is perfect. For those with the a6000, it is also compatible with the fast hybrid autofocus, so is a must have lens.Main thing to consider when getting this, is the field of view can be slightly too narrow to use indoors, or when taking landscapes equivalent to 52.5mm, so its not the lens to end all lenses, but is definitely one to complement a wider lens.

I really wanted a sharp, bright 50mm equivalent Emount lens but didnt want to have to take out a 2nd mortgage to do so yes, Im looking at you Zeiss. This 35mm lens really fills out my prime collection. Its very sharp and has a flexible field of view. All my Emount lenses serve a particular purpose I wouldnt want to part with any of them well, I did part with my original 16mm in favor of the much, much sharper 20mm. I watched for a 50off sale and bought through Sonys EPP 10 more off, so I got what I think is a great bargain for one of Sonys best Emount lenses.

When first trying it out, I didnt see much difference between this and the kit lens 1650mm. As I continued to experiment with it, I loved the quality of the photos. It works great and it is amazing at taking portraits Would definitely recommend if your photo purpose is portraits. I have yet to try it with landscapes.

I got this lens for my Sony A6000 to have a good option for low light photography and get some nice background blur. Often I am using the lens for spontaneous moments of my children, indoors and outdoors as well. Autofocus speed is great this is difficult to compare, because it depends on camera setup and lighting conditions with the A6000 it cooperates with PDAF focusing. For video, continuous focusing also works like a charm. In low light, and when I need the 35mm standard angle of view, I am better off with this lens then with the Zeiss 1670mm. The very compact size of this lens is also appealing What is lessthanperfect about this lens Well, build quality is okay, but rather thin metal on the outside, and two different shades of black actually, I dont care about this. Manual focusing is by wire i.e. coupled electronically no mechanical contact between your hand and the focusing mechanism. Picture quality I think this lens delivers very nice images, sharp, good contrast, little distortion, little flare, little aberration. Aperture f1.8 is very usable, except for macro. The lens looks strange with the concave, and rather small front element, does not look similar to a large aperture DSLR lens, but the picture quality is in the same league as DSLR lenses with similar focal lens, aperture, and price range. Bokeh is sometimes strange usually soft, creamy bokeh as one expects from this kind of a lens, but occasionally, the aspherical lens element causes the bokeh to have that onion ring look search for aspherical lens bokeh images to see what I mean. I can live with that the aspherical lens element is there for a good reason… Overall, I am impressed by this lens, and I am using it very often, due to its size, low light, autofocus, and picture quality capabilities.

I had no preconceptions of this lens. However, after taking only a very few photographs with this marvelous glass, I can say Ive fallen…hard. Those who say it is too expensive youre entitled to your opinion, even if you are wrong. This lens feels expensive, made of metal, or not and frankly, the jury is still out on whether or not being metal is a good or a bad thing. The pictures dont lie. This lens is wonderful. AFAIK this lens is, for all intents and purposes, perfect.I will be using this lens for aerial video, on a radio controlled platform, with a Sony Nex system. This is pretty much the 3035mm lens you want for your A60006300NEX, but I wish it were better. The new Sigma 30mm f1.4 is sharper, but this lens comes out on top for its usability. Small and light weight. DONT UNDERVALUE THIS It makes one handed shots and fitting into small bags much easier than the Sigma 30mm f1.4. The Sigma 30mm f2.8 is also very compact and an awesome alternative if you dont need low light shots and dont want to spend 200 more for the f1.4. This is the only 30ish lens with OSS. I shoot in a lot of low light and this is invaluable to me. Autofocus hit rate is good. Id say 7080 on pretty much everything I shoot except the dog at full sprint. Build quality is good but is a finger oil magnet. COMPARISON PICTURES BETWEEN SIGMA 30MM, SONY 35MM, AND SONY 50MM Distortion pics included. Tested at f1.4, f1.7, f1.8, f5.6, and f7.1. Focus was on the CPU block. Shot on a tripod with remote app so there is no motion blur. First lets start off with the bad, its price. But with that out of he way, its the one of the best choices you can make for an all purpose walk around lenses. Sonys 1.5x crop factor puts this at a focal length of 52.5mm which is close to the perfect nifty fifty range thats just right for everyday and street photography. Its also pretty good in low light situations due to the combination of having an f1.8 and OSS, Sonys version of optical stabilization. If you shoot a lot of video, you will definitely want this for its quietness when autofocusing.

This lens has much improved performance for low light situations, as expected with a fast lens when compared to the 1855 mm NEX kit lens. I love that this lens is black looks much better than the silver kit lens does mounted on my NEX5N. But as for the advertized increased sharpness of this lens, Im just not seeing it so far when I compare shots of the same scenesame settings taken with this lens vs. the kit lens, pixel peep both images at full size they both seem identical in sharpness. At the price this lens sells for, it should produce images with noticeably better sharpness than the kit lens.

This is now the lens I keep on the camera most of the time. On the a6000 APSC sensor it is fairly tight when shooting my toddlers indoors, but I can still fit them head and shoulders in the frame in any room in the house with a good bokeh. The 35mm is not as much zoom, so the bokeh is not as significant as on the 50mm 1.8 of on a fullframe. The 1.8 makes for good lowlight shots. The steadyshot inlens is still not amazing like on a camcorder, but takes some of the jitter out of video.

When shooting video, its got a VERY nice stabilization effect. It works well on my VG20 and FS100.My only complaint is the price. Sony is demanding a bit too much for this little baby. I bought the Sony a6000 with the kit lens and this was the first lens I purchased. Its a lot sharper than the kit lens and the max aperture of f1.8 makes a huge difference in low light shots. Cons vignetting when shot wide open at f1.8 and the focus ring needs to turn far too much to go from close focus to infinity. Granted this is not a lens that has manual focus in mind. Overall great lens.

Previously I was using the Sony Zeiss 241.8 as my main lens on the NEX5N. I liked it a lot but always wondered if it really was worth 1100. About a month ago, I bought a MMount Zeiss lens and realized the 241.8 didnt seem like it was worth the money anymore.I played around with other Mmount lenses but missed having AF. Eventually I bought the Sony 35mm1.8. I wasnt expecting much from the 351.8 especially since it was a pure sony design I was blown away by how wrong I was.If you look at the two pictures I attached, the 35mm 1.8 is capable of some very nice details. At 1.8 its a little softer but once you stop down, it gets very sharpThe biggest thing I like about this lens, over the Zeiss 241.8, is it has optical stabilization. You can get sharp shots at 115s shutter speed and have a decent chance at 15s. So you can use lower ISO numbers indoors, compared to the 241.8.With the money you save from buying this over the 241.8, you can go buy another lens for your set.

This is a nice little singlepurpose lens for the classic natural angle of view that we tend to focus on things with. I selected no to is it durable as it is all plastic and doesnt feel as solid as say a Sony 70400, but that is to be expected. It is very lightweight and is a fantastic walkaround lens if you want to focus on the normal view. You wont find a sharp f1.8 lens at any better of a deal than this lens, used or new.

Id used the SAL50F18 for a couple of years before buying this lens, I was reluctant due to the close focal length between the 2, but I cant bring myself to take it off the camera after using it, the 52mm focal length with this lens is as close as needs to be to the commonly regarded most natural focal length. Razor sharp like the SAL50F18 from f2.8 to f5.6 with very little compromise wide open. Its even sharper than the SAL50F18 at f1.8 and from f5.6 to f10.Focusing is fast and quiet, with a surprisingly close focusing ability, it will get a business card to nearly fill a photo Twice as close as I can get with the SAL50F18.My favourite prime lens under 500 from Sony, fantastic for parties and group photos, a perfect pair to the in my opinion best value lens for anyone buying their first Sony alpha crop sensor camera, the SAL50F18.

I bought this lens as soon as it was available based on several online reviews and high hopes.It has not disappointed. I bought this to have an upgrade to the 1650mm kit lens on the NEX6 which is quite slow at the 50mm end. I have rented the 24mm Zeiss before and find this lens to be a great value for its performance compared to the 1100 price on the Zeiss. The build quality is great and matches the look and feel of the NEX6.I really like the camera in low light indoors. Its a great improvement over the kit lens in that regard both for stills as well as video.

Theres nothing bad about this lens. Pictures are sharp. Mainly due to the fact the antishake technology is in the camera, not in the lens like the competitors are doing which helps keep cost down. Whether you have an old Minolta or an old alpha series Sony camera you cant go wrong.

This is my first Prime for my a6300 and am very happy with it. I was looking for a lens to 1 Allow me to shoot more low light lower ISO indoors 2 a lens to achieve great bokeh 3 a lens that is not 1K and light and small so I am able to take it everywhere. This lens clicked off all these boxes above. I love the background blur and the fact that this lens is sooo light, but still feels durable and not cheap. Highly recommended for a reasonable prices low light prime lens.

This is a sharp lens and is highly reviewed for a reason. I can attest to that. It has been my primary lens for portraits and street photography. I use this lens 90 of the time on my Sony A7ii. It is intended for APSC but still fits this camera. It wont be 35mm because of the crop factor. There will be no vignette if you set it up on auto crop.

This is a fantastic starter lens for Emount cameras. I bought it with the bodyonly a6000 option because I figured it was worth the extra few hundred to get what I was told was a vastly superior lens to the kit option. After shooting with it for a couple of weeks, I can say that it definitely lives up to the hype. First, what this lens is great at closeups in both high and lowlight situations. There are other primes that perform great in daylight, but this one really takes phenomenal photos in lowlight situations. So if you think you may want that capability and are deciding between the 35mm f1.8 and something like the Sigma, you should probably go for the Sony. Now, this may not come as a surprise to experienced photographers, but at 35mm, this lens is not going to take very clear wideangle photos. So if you are thinking youll buy this as an allpurpose lens, youll be disappointed as that is not what this lens is designed for. A photo of your wife and kids in front of the ocean will look crystal clear and like a professional photo. A photo of a mountain range wont be distinguishable from your iPhone camera. Again, thats not a criticism, because the lens is optimized to perform highly in a midrange focal length, but just offering that in case somebody is thinking this will work as an allpurpose lens. I gave it 4 stars simply because the lens quality is superb, but the value is perhaps a little lacking at 400, as all Sony lenses tend to be a bit overpriced in my opinion. I do think that the Sony lenses are the best for Emount, but at twice the price of competing options, Im not sure they are twice as good. That said, the OSS feature is going to be more useful in this lens than say a wideangle lens. The reason being that for most wideangle shots youll probably be using a lower shutter speed and a tripod anyway.

I only snapped a few photos. They look okay. I am not sure if all I read on the internet is true about this lens. Jury is still out, but I do not like the fit when I mount it on the camera. It feels a bit tight. What I thought was a travesty was the package it came in. It came just in a bag with bubbles inside. I was shocked. 400 and best buy threw it in a onelayer bubble bag. I purposely didnt buy the lens from Amazon because it required shipping didnt want it shipped. However, I ended up buying from best buy since I could physically bring to store if there were any issue.

Well I no longer own this lens but I will leave my honest review. If you have any NEX series cams, or even the A series, get this lens. Super light weight and tact sharp. Note this is not full frame. I shot with this wide open all year round, no complaints. I am no photography expert but this lens did the job very well. The bokeh was awesome.

Really happy with this lens and the sharpness. If you have a kit lens, you should really invest in this. Its great in low lightIve used it for low light indoor stuff at night, havent tested night shots yet, and I havent had issues with blurry focus at all. Nice and light as well, which can feel a little flimsy when you compare it to say a manual lens, but if you have a sony e mount camera you are probably looking for lightness and portability.

I love my NEX 5 and although the kit 1855mm is adequate, it has significant short comings compared to a good prime lens. I have been getting by quiver of legacy primes and adapters my favorite Hexanon 40mm 1.8 until this lens came out. The Zeiss 32mm1.8 is too . I demoed and was pleased with the Sigma 30mm2.8 is sharp and a good value, but no image stabilization and not as fast or having as good a build quality as this new Sony lens.The lens is fairly sharp. Some reviews are critical of sharpness. I doubt that you will notice any deficiencies in real world shooting. I use this as my all purpose walkaround lens and keep my Sony 16mm in my pocket.

Its hard to beat a prime lens for quality and I love the large aperture. I have used this mainly for portrait shots due to the focal length. On a APS C size camera it makes the focal length a little too long for general shooting. I dont use this one indoors much since everything ends up being too close. The quality is great and it takes amazing pictures.

Im just an amateur, but I wanted to see what other lenses offer besides what came with my kit. After reading reviews, I landed on this one.The shots are beautiful. This lens very easily creates a bokeh effect, where my other lenses struggle to do so. Its a tighter shot, not as wide as the zoomable kit lens. But its more crisp and clear than the kit lens. It can also focus faster than the kit lens.On a recent trip to Disney World, I used both to great effect. For wider shots, I used the kit lens since this prime lens has a more narrow view. But when taking pictures of friendsfamily, I swapped to this one and got great shots every time. Im just an amateur, but Id recommend using both for different reasons.It can be tougher at a convention. This lens is great for portrait or halfbody shots. But often, I want to see the whole body, including shoes, for great cosplay. This lens requires standing farther back to get the whole person, so for a con, I stuck to the kit lens which has a wider angle since the further back I go, the more people walk inbetween. But when its a group shot and Im already further back, or in a hallway with breathing room, this lens takes the cake and makes every shot look amazing

Very good portrait and travel photography lens. Nice bokeh, small size and generally well built. A bit hard to shoot indoors but other than that its a very good allround lens. Produces sharp images though you probablt dont wanna go as low as f1.8 I usually shoot portraits at f2.8 and it works well. I think it focuses slightly better than the 50mm in dark environments, though it is still a bit slow and sometimes misses the target and has to focusdefocus all the way to finally lock in. Other than that I am happy with it and will definitely use it a lot.

Im very happy with this lens. I love the 35mm since I am able to get some3 great shots indoors where I was often limited by my 50mm. The focus is excellent and I have been able to get some very sharp photos when within 6 feet of my subject. My only complaint is that if my subject is farther than 6 ft from me I cant seem to get as sharp a focus. But, for the price, I wouldnt take a star away for that.

I originally purchased the FE 28mm thinking it was a better piece of glass. But VOW was obviously smaller and lack of image stabilization was a downer. This lens is a nice prime lens to have. The focal length is just right for walking around with but its also a good length for video use. I use this in tandem with the E 50mm.

Forget about zoom lens. That is going to be my only lens for travel, party shots, family shots. 35mm is convenient for portrait and group shots. Sharpness is excellent at any stop. Bokeh is very good test shot was about 6 ft away. I wish I had this lens earlier. It is way better in sharpness, colors, contrast vs to zoom lens 18105. I exchange 18105 for this lens and very happy about it. Although colors are a little cooler.

Bought this lens as the sole lens for my a6000 and it has held up wonderfully thus far. I bought at the urging of other reviewers who had good things to say about it and am not dissapointed. I am using the lens to take travel photography as I explore the country and have not had any issues so far. Got some great landscape photos, potraits and even some night photograohy of the stars in the Utah desert. Worth every penny.

lovely lens, im glad to have itremoved points because best buy doesnt give a care how they ship a camera lens of all things. just stuck the original box in a small padded envelope and called it a day.bought this open box excellent, but accessories were missing. good job vetting your items. if you ever buy expensive items like these in open box, consider picking it up in store and save yourself some frustration.

Ive had this lens now for a few weeks. Ive put this lens through its paces. I wasnt expecting a lot from the lens considering the low price. I was WRONG This lens is EXCELLENT in low light. When I say low light, I mean outside dark with a tiki torch burning can appear daylight with very little noise. A quick stop in post I have some great photos. This will surely be my walking around lens as it can do it all. Stop it down and you get really nice, sharp images. Open it wide up and you have some beautiful bokeh.

The altenatove from sigma would be too big.Cons It is expensive for it is. The sigma is cheaper but larger and no oss.The new Sony option is twice the cost.

I use this lens for video work mostly. It has fast and accurate continuous autofocus which is extremely handy for gimbal work. The OSS is also a pretty good perk. At 52mm equivalent on the a6300 crop sensor it is a great focal length for most shots. At 1.8 its very sharp and has good bokeh. This lens wont preform like the new G Master lenses which should maybe go without saying, but if youre on a budget and can only get one lens this is the best bang for your buck. Delivers excellent shots and is a massive upgrade from the a6300 kit lens.

The lens is absolutely amazing, the reason I did not give it 5 stars is the bundle. I thought this bundle has actual stuff I will use so the value is great. Then when it arrived and I can fit two of these lenses in the enormous lens case it was not as great a value as I will never use this case. I would expect a bundle to contain the right size. Maybe if I wrap the lens in the lens cloth first it will work, but that case is big enough to put my camera in it with the lens attached. Just not what I was expecting, so the value is less because I have to spend more to buy a smaller case.

Almost everything is great about this lens. Its fast, very sharp and has optical stabilization. Manual focusing pretty much doesnt work unless it is to do fine adjustment from auto focus. When autofocus doesnt work such as when attempting a closeup with a bright background, you cant focus at all. There should be a pure manual focus mode.

I bought this lens to use on my Nex6. I have tested it at most apetures and find it to be an excellent lens overall. It is a little sosft wide open, but closed down to 2.2 and it is fine through f11. The OSS does help, particularly in low light shooting. The lens seems to be well made, yet is light weight and makes an excellent walkabout lens. It is slightly larger than the 1650 kit lens, but balances nicely on the camera. All in all, though pricey, I would rate it a good buy.

The camera has multiple components to choose from for full utility of the camera. It is very light, takes really crisp outside photos, terrific panoramas and easy snap and shoot. I have used the movie feature, but havent downloaded it to see how it came out. My only criticism is with lens. I would like to see other lenses fit on the camera like my Canon.

Now, lets talk about the price Compare to Sigma 30mm f2.8 which is a very good lens also it is kind of steep, but we factor those advantages from Sony 35mm f1.8 in… OSS help maintain low ISO with proper shutter speed. Light weight and Sony name No rattling and quick turnon Compare to Sigma 30mm. But 4 stars because from my hard earn cold cash, its still expensive

After owning a nex6 my first proper camera for a few months, I decided it was time to add a lens to my collection. I knew that I wanted a fixed focal length lens that could be used in many situations. I decided on the SEL35F18 after reading positive reviews and recommendations on online forums.The SEL35F18 has exceeded all my expectations. The large aperture F1.8 allows for nice bokeh when wide open.The 35mm focal length is equivalent to 50mm on a full frame sensor. This makes it very versatile as a street shooting lens not too wide and not too long.Autofocus speed is great and images turn out nice and sharp.The lens is well packaged and comes with a hood in the box.I would highly recommend this as a first lens to other beginners looking to expand their photography skills.

Good, fairly sharp, well built, OK focus speed, but and this but is big. color fringing is an issue with this lens. I read reviews and overlooked that part of the reviews I guess. I took pictures of just plain white flowers up against its own green foliage in bright sun and when later looked at the pictures I had to go outside and look at the flowers again to see if they were actually the way I saw them on my monitor. Wow it was bad to say the least and getting rid of it was not easy and very time consuming. Other then that Im happy with the lens. Just be aware. Seems to only happen wide open though f1.8 above 2.5 pretty clean.

I purchased this lens for my a35 camera after it was recommended that I add a fixed focus prime lens in my bag. I read a number of reviews and Im extremely happy with my choice. The level of performance is fantastic. Hand held pictures remained clear in low light and the bokeh is awesome the pics I posted dont do it justice. I highly recommend this lens.Note, Im not sure whether a 35mm combined w a camera with an aps sensor is the equivalent of a traditional 50mm film lens, but I chose this lens over the 50mm despite many people saying that 50mm are almost mandatory. In any event, I love this lens.

This is an excellent lens for it low light performance.35mm x 1.5 crop factor 52.5mm making this a good general purpose lens for everyday use. The f1.8 very fast lens allow this lens to capture much much better low light picture compare to the stock lens.I regretted I didnt buy prime lens sooner.

I am not experienced neither very knowledgeable and rely on the camera to do its thing. With this lens, even though there is no zoom and, can be restrictive at time to take pictures, my shots have been improved towards professional quality. General portraits of people have been upgraded in color and skin tones, and generally sharper images have been taken of landscapes. I believe with some more reading of using the Sony A5100 mirror less I may be able to dramatically improve my family pictures. I use for family pictures and for landscapes. I like the sharpness, color and creative blur you can make with this lens. Dont like that I cant zoom but this is not the purpose of this lens anyway…. Dont like the price…. I read several reviews before purchasing and I think it was in my best to start from this type of lens.

So I have been using the stock lens for 45 months now and was getting pretty good results. I was having problems in lower light conditions when taking pictures of my kidspets indoors. I switched over to this lens and couldnt be happier. Much more responsive in tracking in lower light conditions and excellent sharpness. I debated getting the Sigma Lens but decided on this one due to stability.

I received this lens recently, but it will now replace the 1855 kit zoom as the default lens on my Sony NEX5r camera. It is a really sharp lens, and a lot of fun to play with including practicing my manual focus skills. The 35mm focal length is extremely useful on a camera with an APSC sensor like the NEX cameras, as it has the same field of view as a 52.5mm on a full frame camera, and is roughly equal to the field of view that your eye has. The lens itself is bright, with a maximum aperture of F1.8, which is very useful in low light situations, and when you want to shoot with a shallow depth of field in order to isolate your subject. The background blur is really smooth and pretty, giving a really nice dreamy effect to your photos. In addition, Ive played a bit with the video, and results seem pretty good. The image stabilization OSS helps dampen the jitters in my handheld video clips.This really is a musthave lens for anyone who owns an NEX camera.

This lens is slightly larger than the kit lens 1650 mm, making it inconspicuous and lightweight enough to always carry around. I bought it to take pictures of my baby and for traveling, and its perfect for that. It is fast and fast to focus, even in low light without a flash and with a moving baby as the subject The lens takes great shots on auto or P, so anyone can take great photos with this lens. A friend without camera experience snapped some casual photos with this lens on my Sony a6000 and Ive had people ask whether her shots were taken by a professional photographer

I purchased this lens a few months ago after much research and I am completely pleased. The lens is very sharp, renders good colors, and focuses quickly and accurately. The OSS really makes the cake. I can shoot in low light down to about 14 of a second without noticeable degradation if I am careful. Bokeh is smooth and pleasing. I looked at more expensive options and decided that the smooth quiet autofocus and OSS on this lens would outweigh any slight optical disadvantage and I think that judgment was correct. This lens spends more time on my Sony a6000 than any other in my bag. I think that, if you weigh the price of this lens against other options above and below its price point, you will agree that its native functionality on Sony Emount cameras makes it a good value.

I was choosing between this and the sel28f20 both had the same price, the latter being a full frame lens. This one, specifically has OSS. Its a perfect companion to my a6000. The sel28f20 does not have image stabilization. I love the DOF on this one and the light it brings in. Waaaaaaay better than the kit lens and I love prime lenses. I have the minolta nifty fifty f1.7 and the A mount adapter and that one is still good too, but on the a6000, its a little to narrow. This one I think is the perfect walkaround lens and the build quality is decent not much different from the kit lens. But the images that I get from this is insanely good. I think this should be a staple lens for people on the Sony cropped mirrorless systems.

Ive been an amateurenthusiast photographer for nearly 20 years, and chose this lens as my first prime for my Sony A6000 mirrorless camera. The image quality is fantastic, with all of the benefits youre looking to get from a highend prime lens. Nevertheless, I have noticed that I look at compositions a bit wider before framing them up in the viewfinder with the 35mm lens. On the APSC sized sensor on the Sony mirrorless cameras, I find myself needing to take a couple steps back to get the full composition set in my shots.

Ive had my A6000 for almost two years now and I was ready to get a new lens. Ive primarily used the kit lens and hardly ever used the 55210mm that came with my bundle. It was between this 35mm and the 50mm 1.8. This one was pricier but it fit my needs better than the 50mm at this time. I like to do portraits, especially of my kids. And my space is limited in my living room where most of the pics are taken. So obviously a wider lens was going to suit me better than the 50mm. Eventually there will come a time when I will need that lens but right now, the 35mm is perfect. Its crisp. Its 1.8 so it takes in so much more light than the kit lens and the bokeh is so nice. It took a bit to get used to not being able to zoom in or out but you just learn to move back or forward to frame your next shot. Im not a professional, far from it, but people have said the pics taken with it look professional lol. Ill take itAll in all, this was the best Christmas present from my husband and it stays on my camera fulltime. Eventually I would like to upgrade my camera but a new lens is sufficient for now

I bought this lens based on the reviews, and it is no doubt one of the best lenses Ive ever owned. Very sharp and has an almost ideal focal length for the NEX. The autofocus is a little slow in lower light, and Im more dependent on continuous AF than other lenses. While the lens is generally amazing, I think it is only marginally better than other lenses that cost much less, including the Sigma 30 though it doesnt have OSS. In my opinion, it is not as good as the SEL 50 1.8, which costs less as well. Granted, the 35mm focal length has a different look, but you have to question the price difference compared to the 50. In all, it is the essential prime for the NEX IMO and it stays attached to my NEX 6 almost all of the time, which says something.
