At the moment after a few days in, I am currently disappointment as I was hoping to overclock this chip, but as of now its just running too hot.. I have an noctua nhd15 and its idle temps are 5963c, on my water loop it is 5763c, my 6 core ran at 35c idle. Just doesnt make any sense. Also the way that AMD marketed this chip was very misleading. I still think it is good value, hoping there it is a chipset issue or something where these temps are coming from, if it stays as it is I will not be purchasing another AMD processor. Hope AMD didnt rush this one and leave me with another room heater.

I upgraded from a highly overclocked 4.4Ghz 6850K which ran fine for over a year but at high temperatures and voltage. I wanted to move away from dated X99 platform.I bundled this 1800X with Asus Crosshair VI and to my surprise performance was on par or better then 6900K which cost twice as much. AMD has made 8 Core CPU available to masses for half the price. XFR boost two of the Cores to 4.2 GHz automatically. Idle temp stay at around 42c and Max stress temps stay at around 69C. My 6850K used to reach 89C when pressed with similar software prime95.AMD has done a fantastic job with RYZEN R7. BTW this was my very first product from AMD and I am extremely happy with its performance in content creation software. Looking forward to Zen2.

I was kind of skeptical about the performance of the Ryzen chips but after building up a new system using the Ryzen 7 1700X I can say this with heart…WOW. I have two 8350 setups and there is a big difference between the chips. It is noticeable when streaming from the web, pages fly in with no lag.I also like MSI motherboards, so I used a B450 Tomahawk the 1700X is working great on this board. I dont OC, which is fine by me.So YEA, if youre in the market for a new build by all means go for it. The Ryzen chips are excellent.

This is the first build Ive ever done with AMD, and I was pleasantly surprised. I upgraded an HTPC running Plex from an i52500k to this 1700X and its amazing how many more concurrent streamstasks its able to handle granted, previous technology was nearing 9 years old. Very satisfied and no longer gunshy about going AMD

Just replaced my aging Intel i7 950 OCed to 4.2Ghz since its installation 7 years ago. Yes the Intel 7700k beats this by 2fps in single core gaming performance but I own a COMPUTER for not only gaming but COMPUTING. If I wanted single core performance for gaming Id get an Xbox. Seriously this CPU ROCKS Super smooth performance while playing BF1 in 4K resolution when Im video encoding it blows the doors off anything Ive ever used, ie Handbrake just flies while encoding HD video. Definitely would recommend. Just get Samsung B die memory, sadly I had to order mine from Newegg because someone at Microcenter who does the memory ordering should be fired for not stocking proper memory for AMD RYZEN systems. Its been months STILL MICROCENTER DOESNT HAVE THE CORRECT MEMORY in Stock Get your act together, youre losing business and its a disservice when inexperienced builders struggle to get their system optimized because youre selling them memory designed for intel rigs Okay rant over love my new AMD rigThe memory Im using G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 16GB 2 x 8GB 288Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 PC4 25600 Desktop Memory Model F43200C14D16GTZR

I dont upgrade very often but this was the best time. My 8 year old phenom was still better than most of the shelf PCs on sale but this Ryzen is doing more at idle than I thought possible. Im going to try serious gaming to see if it wakes up. Perhaps multiplayer solitaire LOL Z

My unit was poorly packaged when sent to me. The box suffered a substantial amount of damage. Luckily, the processor survived but if this is how they were treating my package others might not make it to the destination. Also, remember this unit does not have a stock heatsink. Make sure you have a heat sink ready for this.

I already was running a Ryzen 5 1600 in my machine, overclocked to 3.9ghz. I decided to buy this CPU at a great price on Black Friday, and I am amazed that I was able to tell that this CPU is faster than the Ryzen 5 1600.I mainly use my PC for daily use, gaming, and photo editing.I have yet to overclock this CPU because I am happy with the performance out of the box. Stays nice and cool with a Corsair H100i v2.Paired with my Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 1070, I can play every game possible at highultra settings on my 2560×1080 219 ultrawide LG monitor.I love my machine

This was used in a build for a customer. The install was easy and it worked flawlessly. Great cpu for a budget build, when you want plenty of cores for those games that are designed for multi core cpus.

Was delivered an empty package by outletpc and now its on me to file a police report and claim that it was empty. Even though outletpc knew it was delivered minutes after, with no contents. Its been terrible service so far and i have never expected this in 14 years of using outletpc. Good luck to anyone that orders this processor.

This Ryzen 1700x is exactly what AMD needed to come out with. I came from using the AMD FX series and never was satisfied with how well it worked with high CPU usage games. I set up a new build with the 1700x, MSI x370 motherboard, and 16gb ram. After a small over clock with MSI game boost I am out performing an 1800x and this is 100 cheaper. No lag, no CPU usage spikes, and low power consumption. Dont waste your time wondering if this is a good chip…..Just buy it and enjoy it.

I closely considered this, the 1800X, and the 1700. Personally i think the 1700X was the best of both worlds from a performance and price comparison. I have it overclocked to 3.6 and memory running 16GB 2660. I have had some fun getting the memory faster that the 2660, however as far as I can tell it is either the motherboard or memory issue. Im not an AMD Fan boy, but have had quite a few AMD systems. They provide good performance and at a fair price point in comparison.

I love this processor, it has been performing VERY well since I got it I give the processor an A.I did have to knock off a star due to the cooling. The processor did not come with any kind of cooling which was expected, and it required an external adapter to allow most regular coolers to attach to it, and that adapter was not particularly easy to use. Once i got it all screwed on, it worked great, but it was a minor headache. One small hiccup on an otherwise great product. Using a cooler designed specifically for AMD sockets would alleviate this issue.

I bought a 1700x on release day and its a great CPU, plenty of power and dont believe its not good at gaming, it is just fine. The problem is you are better off buying a 1700 over the 1700x, or maybe a 1800x if you really want to push the OC. I downgraded to the 1700, but can achieve the same overclock 3.9Ghz with less voltage, less heat and less cashThis is basicly a 1800x that didnt make the cut.

The 1700x is an excellent processor with 8 cores and can easily play any game as long as your GPU is good enough. Instillation is easy enough and uses a great socket that allows for great upgradablilty down the line. The CPU is unlocked and can be pushed a little further than recommended as long as your cooler can compensate.

I purchased this chip as the centerpiece of my first new build in 5 years. I went midrange on most of my previous build parts and wanted to go a little more high end this time around. I also picked up the ASUS ROG Crosshair VI Hero Motherboard, which I will be reviewing as well since I also got this from Microcenter. Other specs include32 GB 2×16 Corsair Vengeance 3000 RAMSamsung EVO 960 M.2 NVMe 500 GB SSDASUS ROG Strix GTX 1060 GPU I know there is better but this will have to do for now. Waiting for RX Vega to be releasedPioneer BluRay burnerDIY Skyline 06 caseThermaltake RGB 850W PSUCorsair h100i v2 CLC taken from previous buildI also swapped one of my older 24 1080P monitors for a new ASUS 32 1440P monitor.I have been able to successfully OC the chip to 4.05 Ghzcore. I am hoping this can go a little higher on water cooling with more BIOS optimizations in the coming months and that I will be able to fully utilize the OC on my RAM speed as well as I have to keep it at 2666 Mhz currently to POST at the time of this writing.I feel that for the price range, this chip offers a lot of flexibility in builds. I know that most people are able to get the 1700x up to similar OC speeds, but hopefully with optimization in the coming months, this one will still be able to surpass them as far as top end OC numbers. If you dont want to mess with any OC, the higher 3.6 base speed is still very nice an this chip performs very well. One note if you do OC and monitor your temps There is a 20C offset in the monitoring software, so high end temps you can generally knock 20C off of that to get your actual numbers. Hopefully this will be accounted for in future updates as well to get more accurate reporting for benchmarking and general usage to keep the fans quieter when running under load.

Fast. and reliable. Great value at under 200. 8 cores 16 threads. An amazing time to build PCs. Wish it came with a cooler. The Wraith Spire cools this just fine. I run the at 3800 MHz no issues. Have tried to get to 4000 MHz. no luck but very happy with these. They are my go to.

This processor rips through everything. I ran my Fx8350 Black for almost four years and it is still a very good chip, but it was time to move on. Timing was curious with the new Ryzen 2 coming out weeks after purchase. The new ones do not seem to cost much more and have slightly better numbers, as expected. I dont regret the purchase though. I wasnt really in a position to wait for the new gen to come out MoBo needed to be replaced and there was no way I was purchasing an outdated socket type. Besides, how could you ever go three weeks without a rig I would like have to talk to my family and stuff then Ryzen master is an easy way to Overclock this beast. I have a few issues with Ryzen Master, but nothing worth ranting about. Overall, unless you are doing some crazy high end enthusiast stuff or using your rig as a 3D modeling work station or something wild, this card will excel for you just fine for a few years. But I would probably recommend buying the 2700 at this point.

For the price, the overall performance you get from this CPU is just fantastic. Truly AMD hit a home run here. While I know some might complain about 1080p gaming performance not being quite as fast as Intel, the truth is that most people wont be able to tell the difference and even still, with the Spectre and Meltdown Intel flaws and the fixes that slow things down, and also given that this platform has now been out a year slight performance enhancements etc, things have pretty much evened out. If youre looking to build a new system, Id put this on the short list. Its a great CPU. I havent once regretted my choice and this is coming from someone who used to only use Intel

This CPU is amazing. Its multi ore processing power easily beats out intels 6900k but it is worse in single core applications like gaming and at the pricing of sub 500 it was an easy choice for me to make. OC potential is a lot lower than intels chips with my 1800x only being able to stable oc to 4.1 ghz. This chip is not the best choice if you are looking for pure gaming performance, rather it USA chip that is Kent for heavy workloads with price to performance that hasnt been seen in awhile.

I had been looking forward to an upgrade to Zen2 Ryzen next year, but since my 4 year old Intel motherboard died, I had to upgrade a bit sooner than expected. I bought this CPU to hold me out until I can get a good deal on a Zen2 3rd Generation Ryzen in the future. I managed to overclock mine to 3.9 GHz stable. I could almost squeeze 4GHz out of it, but its not entirely stable and would take a huge step up in voltage to get it there, and the heat that would come along with it… its not worth that extra 100MHz. 3.9 is still very respectable performancewise. My previous CPU was an i54670k. I never delidded it so it ran hot with Intels poor performing thermal paste between the die and heatspreader, regularly getting into 90C degree territory under load. I have a more than capable AIO liquid cooler but it didnt improve temps over a Hyper 212 that I previously had on it thanks to that thermal paste. Now I have 2x the amount of cores, 4x the amount of threads, and it runs significantly cooler at almost the same clockspeed… Im blown away at how terrible Intels paste really is, and they used it for so long. I love that AMD never compromised in this area, not even on the lower end Ryzen chips. All of them are unlocked and have a soldered heatspreader. Thats value if Ive ever seen it. For those of you looking to build a Ryzen system, as of right now, Zen2 looks like its right around the corner. 1st generation Ryzen isnt far behind 2nd gen in terms of performance, but the upcoming 3rd gen should be a much better improvement. I would suggest scoring a good deal on this CPU instead of an R7 2700X in the meantime and put that money saved towards a future upgrade, or holding out for a little longer until the next generation arrives. Im not regretting my decision one bit.

If youre comparing this to Intel for gaming with a high end GPU, consider thisThe 8700K will do slightly better NOW, but as core optimization improves with games, the edge will disappear especially if you consider the 2700X.No one cares about 1080P performance. It has been proven NOT to predict future performance, so there is that. You get two extra cores with AMD for less money, and all the memory issues have now been fixed.I dont see any reason to buy Intel, and Ive used plenty of them including devils canyon to 5930K with 980 Ti SLI.I now run 1080 Ti SLI and am very pleased with the performance.

Dont pay any attention to the one claiming this isbad for gaming. This will handle any game you throw at it no sweat. Notice the person cherry picked the only productivity application where it doesnt dominate the competing companys processors. It competes plenty well in games with the competing companys high end processors and clobbers any but the top end processors in games which makes it absurd to claim it isbad. The only reason it doesnt dominate in games is because game publishers have been optimizing for the competing companys processors for the past 5 years. When they optimize for Ryzen also, WATCH OUT

Coming from an i56400, I was pretty much bottle necked always by that processor. Soon as I booted the Ryzen 7 1700x for the 1st time it was a night and day comparison. Everything was snappy and never got bogged down. Overclocked to 4.0 Ghz with a cooler master 120 MM AIO. That was with a slight bump in voltage. Im sure theres more room to push this thing, but Im content and REALLY happy with this purchase.

AMD finally stepped up to the plate. I am glad I went with this processor. The processor does not come with a stock fan, you would need to get your own cooling solution. Since I had a TT case, went with the TT 280 mm radiator. Paired this with the ASRock Taichi X370 with some overclocking. I am running this bad boy at 3.9GHz. The processing power is second to none. This is the best bang for the buck in terms of coresthreads. You do not lose a lot for gaming or productivity. Had this processor for over a month now. No complaints so far. This is a better deal compared to the 1800. Benchmarks werent far off when comparing to my buddys 1800 setup. As of review time, the processor price has dropped. Jump in and prepare to be amazed.

8 core16 threads makes for a great desktop vm farm workstation cpu.Id get it with a water kit, install is less of a headache. When I initially bought it I was pointed at a this really big 20 evo air cooler, that thing was pretty annoying to work with. Hit the ram so I had to bend the fins, and the block had a weird chemical reaction with the thermal compound I used which made it go brittle and leach what looked like carbon out of the metal. Just go with the water kit

Coming from intel x99 background, and boy what a headache that platform was. Used the most expensive motherboard and parts, but it was very unstable and flicky. I had to reboot bunch of times, it didnt like lots of hardware and had to right hardware combination just to get it stable long enough. Then i got this chip and asrock x370 tiachi, u know the hard drives intel was rejecting They worked without an issue and 100 stable I was able to clock this baby to 4175 ghz with perfect stability Now thats what i am talking about. Also, unlike intel, u dont have to worry about bending pins on the motherboard or cpu. Amd fan for life . Only reason i switched feom 8350 fx to intel x99 cause amd just didnt had anything to match intel. I should have stayed up with amd, at least it was stable Dont trust x299 platform, already getting reports how intel released the chip too early without fixing all the bugs Whats the point of having speed if system is unstable Go with amd

Very impressed with the CPU. Its been a few years since I upgraded my computer, so the jump is noticeable. Cinebench score was 1600 without any overclocking. 1600 might not be class leading, but for a stock system Im impressed. Just comparing scores between some friend with more expensive systems the Ryzen 1800X was the clear winner overall.

Upgraded from the AMD FX 8350 to this and what a difference. Temps are cooler, frames are higher in games and streaming is better for me. Ive had no issue and even have this ocd to 4.0. At the time of typing out this review and watching the Apple 2017 keynote live, the cpu is running at 49.5c and Im not sure if the whole 20 degree thing AMD has going hs been changed or if it still reports you are running 20 degrees more than you actually are. I have a BroadwellE workstation at the office. Its a Core i7 6900K with 64GB of RAM and a 1TB NVMe drive. Total cost of the Intel computer was about 3000. I built this Ryzen 1800X machine for under 2,000 and its faster at stock speeds. I recreated the Blender benchmark that AMD demonstrated in December on both machines and the Ryzen computer beats it by about 3 seconds about 7 faster. When both machines are overclocked to their max setting though, they are almost identical. The only complaint I have with this new Ryzen build is that my DDR3200 RAM will not work at anything other than stock speed of 2133 and surely this is holding back my benchmark scores. I hope the motherboard makes get this figured out soon. They really dropped the ball on this Ryzen launch. GG Asus. Oh, and by the way I ran the Rise of the Tomb Raider benchmark that Guru3d did they scored 117 FPS in that benchmark at superlow resolution which was quite a bit a less than the 141 they achieved on Kabylake. Well when I recreated that benchmark on my Ryzen build I scored 138 FPS and this was on a Radeon RX 480 So whatever they say about its lackluster gaming performance is highly overstated in my opinion. I would way rather have twice the cores by giving up a smidge of gaming performance. But I game at 4K anyway so it doesnt matter because Im GPU limited. And on top of that, when running the gaming benchmarks the FPS is sikly smooth and does not stutter at all on the Ryzen machine like it does on my Kabylake computer As for overclocking, I am only able to get 3950MHz stable on all cores overnight at 1.40 volts. 4GHz it reboots within about 15 minutes and Ive tried cranking up the voltage. Ive run some benchmarks at 4.1GHz all cores with 1.55 volts the but the air cooler I have is no match for it and will probably melt the socket at that speed. You need water if you plan on going to 4GHz and beyond. Very very happy. I will be purchasing some 89 motherboards, Ryzen 5s and Radeon RX 460s for my childrens computers in the coming months. Glad to see AMD is back

A lot of people keep saying AMD fanboys this and INTEL this blah blah blah. Well Im relatively new to the scene only about the last year or so and Ive only really helped others on builds. This was my first true build completely by myself so Ive got a pretty objective point of view. For 499 I can now run any IT programs and simulators for my course lightning fast, I can game however I want to, I can edit the professional pictures and videos I take, my dad can work on it also for his engineering software at what feels like twice the speed, and Im loving it. A lot of people dont NEED to do all these things but I do, so guess what, I love it.

I loaded windows 10 Pro on a bench chassis, with a Heat pipe cooler, then remounted in new case and applied an Alpha Cool water block with an open loop XSPC 240 radiator and reservoir., CPU automatically went from 3.4 gz to 3.85 gz. It auto detected the change in cooling and upped the multiplier. I cant say enough about how phenomenal this new system is, with the 1700X at the heart of it. Heat reported in RyzenMaster is 50c in idle, and 6065 under load. Subtracting 20 degrees puts it right where I expected it to be, 30 Idle and 45 load.

I was watching my usage data, using MSI Afterburner, on different games with all settings maxed out. It was not even close to bottlenecking my GTX 1080. The 1800X is sold out right now, but the 1700X is only 200mhz slower for 100 dollars less, and still much faster than the 8350 I was using. Im quite happy with this purchase. Update on temperatures After reapplying thermal paste and turning up some fans I got the idle temps down to about 37C. Also, Ive found, the much more important, load temperatures to be better than with my old boardCPU while playing games the temperatures of the 8350FX would pass 60C even with liquid cooling, and this boardCPU the temperatures have stayed under 50C.

Aside from needing to deal with Windows 10s lack of personalization relative to Windows 7 its been running nicely in 24×7 operation relatively minor use, I just dont shut it off. When I do ask it to do something big, like convert a batch of old video files to h.264, it converts them much faster than my old 2010 Mac Pro tower did while consuming less wattage.

I sold my i76700k and Z170 motherboard in favor of the Ryzen line of processors. In gaming at 1440p, its no slouch. Matched with a gtx 980ti, Im getting minimum 60 FPS in all major titles. For productivity purposes such as video and photo editing, video encoding, and code compiling, this processor is a monster.Dont think this is only for the 16 thread processors of course. For those who do not know, the Ryzen 1500X, 1600, 1600X, 1700, 1700X, and 1800X all share the same exact architectures and memory caches L2L3. The only differences they have is moreless cores. Gaming performance will be almost identical across the board for all of them.Overall the 17001700X processors are giving the same if not better performance than Intels 1000 i75960X or even their 1500 i76950X.

If youre looking for a value CPU, I think this one will be the best choice for anyone looking to build a PC.The reason Ive given the CPU 4 stars is because of overclocking. If youre looking to overclock this CPU, it wont get that much of a boost. 1st generation Ryzen Processors dont overclock that well. Go in to the BIOS and turn off boost or turbo mode. When you need it boost it hickup vs it off. Plus you have so much power it not needed. Also try and get close loop water cooler can make a difference. Less heat in the case the better this one is using mid tower. I can say it rocks even if it more closed then I like.

It is possible to get this chip to be fairly stable under Linux, although it requires compiling a custom kernel with several workarounds. Specifically, in memorymm.c change the Randomize the address space line to read int randomizevaspace readmostly 0 And enable CONFIGRCUNOCBCPU and CONFIGRCUNOCBCPUALL in the .config The kernel must be compiled on a different system, as without the custom kernel the Ryzen system is not stable enough to compile anything. Oddnumbered memory timings also cause various issues, its best to set the memory timings in the UEFI to even numbers, but not tighter than what the memory is rated for. These workarounds will not produce a 100 stable system, but it will be much more stable than before. Additionally, If the option is available in the UEFI, disable the OpCache. This will almost completely solve the issue, but it will reduce the performance and increase the power consumption slightly. If the OpCache is disabled you may not even need a custom kernel. Disabling the OpCache is also the only workaround if you are running Windows. These workarounds are not necessary if your CPU was manufactured after week 25 see above

Ive had K62 500s, a Phenom x4 I still have and it still does work, the FX will finally replace it, and then the FX. Its been 20 years since ive built a pc. I wanted to show my son how to do it. The processor was easy to install on the mb just drop it right in. The cooler we bought was another story… make sure you look up youtube vids showing how to. We used a b450 mb, 32 gb 3200 dram, and a 1050ti graphics card. The machine flies. Its a great cpu for the price. Of course people are going to knock the previous gen, but ive had no problems thus far. Installed window 10, and running fortnite at max frame rate and highest res without a glitch. Cant wait to try some other games.

AMD has definitely and finally stepped up their game. It was time to ugprade my i7 920, so I opted to go with the 1700x, instead of overpaying for an Intel chip. I am 100 satisfied with the speed of this processor and my machine has been running stable from day 1.Please ensure to update the firmware on your motherboard with the latest one, to get the most out of your processor. I paired mine up with the Asus B350F Strix motherboard and it has no issues at all running this thing stable with 2933Mhz Vengeance ram.Go with this Ryzen over the similarly priced Intels. Youll get a ton more for your money and wont regret it.

I upgraded from a FX 8350 and could not be happier. Was going to buy an Intel but waited for reviews on Ryzen. Happy that I did. I not only play games, but also edit videos and other productivity tasks. Ryzen if great for me. Went with the 1700X because of the 30 off sale and the fact that it is only 46 less powerful than the 1800X. All for 100 less than the 1800X. Great CPU Videos render much faster and games play great, could not be happier.

Ignore the intel shills The Ryzen line is a monster at production and produces better minimum frame rates then its intel counterparts. Min frame is a much better indicator of user experience. Its almost guaranteed that max FPS will see gains as operating systems release updates for AMDs scheduling requirements. The platform is young and presents an easy upgrade path, AM4 will be around for a while. You will not be disappointed

Overall, I am very happy with this CPU and platform. Its fast, stable, and its a great way to get 8 cores on the cheap, and if youre like me and you do a lot of rendering, encoding, and development work, this CPU is an amazing value. Some folks slam it for slower gaming performance relative to the 7700k, but its still faster than the older 2600k chips for this, and Ive no complains there. So if youre sitting on an older Sandy Bridge system, looking for a viable upgrade path and you can use the extra cores Ryzen is a phenomenal buy. All that being said, understand that Ryzen is unusually picky about memory. Dont freelance on this and just buy whatever. Carefully read the motherboard compatibility lists QVLs and find a RAM kit that works for you, at the speed youre looking for, on the list for your motherboard. Youll find its easy to get a kit that does 2666 out of the box this way. Kits that do 2933 are also doable mine successfully hit 2933. For 3200 youll have to get much more specific, and that may be difficult for now. Ryzen appears more sensitive to RAM speeds clock rate more important than CAS latency than the i7 line, so get the fastest RAM you can find on the list, in the size you want. One other minor gripe, specific to the 1700X and 1800X only… AMD uses a temperature offset for these of 20C. So your monitoring applications may report the wrong temps. I.e. if the CPU is 30C, it may report 50C. Apparently even Ryzen Master may do this. Its a little annoying, because its hard to tell if the monitoring app is showing the right temps, or the 20C offset. Apparently the regular 1700 doesnt do this. This CPU is a great value for folks doing multithreaded work… who dont want to pay 1000 for an 8 core Intel rig. And its still good enough for gaming, if you do that on occasion too. Ryzen may be the best value on the market for mixeduse, CPU intensive computing. Do your homework on memory and motherboard compatibility, and youll be very satisfied.

For gaming on a budget, Id advise looking at the Ryzen 5 series. The extra cores on the Ryzen 7 series are great for encoding, encryption, running a bunch of virtual machines, doing simulations, etc, but right now not many games can take full advantage of the number of cores and threads this processor can provide. Though I do hope that improves in the future. Id been waiting almost 9 years to upgrade off of my Phenom II 955. Id started to get lag spikes while gaming because my poor phenom II just couldnt pump enough data to my GPU and deal with running the game. Also newer games started requiring newer processor instruction sets. I had originally planned to upgrade to bulldozer, but wasnt impressed with the offered price to performance ratio. I had almost went Intel with my latest build, but Im really glad I grabbed this instead. Ive been really happy with this processor.

Bought with Ryzen 1700X combo. Had no problem upgrading BIOS and overclocking to 4ghz at 2666mhz mem thats 3200mhz DDR4 Corsair. If using Deepcool case, or other with video side mount, do not side mount video as the extended cable affects timing making any overclock unstable.Follow BIOS upgd inst. at ASUS support down load site and should have no problems upgrading bios. Install latest chipset driver from AMD site. Board works great running 1700X at 4ghz water cooled with minor tweaks seen on Facebook, just search web. Using Corsair 3200 DDR4 running at 2666 which is the hardest part of overclocking Ryzen. If using air cooling I think 3.9ghz is max on 1700X, so go with 1800X which is still good combo deal, but 1700X I have with water cooling is within 3 if not same of 1800X water cooled. Ryzen is outstanding even with gaming like this Outstanding price, performance and features

This CPU can do it all Its a productivity monster. This is the best thing weve seen from AMD in a very long time. I love a good value and I think this is the best value option on the market right now.1080p Gaming performance has been disappointing and controversial for some people not for me. Heres the thing, I upgraded from an i7 3770k. Still a great CPU. It overclocks well and its great for gaming and some video production tasks. The platform was just getting a bit long in the tooth, so I wanted an upgrade. The 1700X, with twice the cores and threads, is better in multithreaded applications, of course. As far as gaming in 1080p, the performance is about the same as the 3770k. Sure, I was hoping for at least a bit of an increase in gaming performance, but this is by no stretch of the imagination, bad. In fact, the word I would use is great. 3770K, great gaming experience. 1700X, great gaming experience. Just because it is not what everyone expected, or what AMD hyped it up to be, does not make it bad.IPC seems to be on par with Kaby Lake. A 1700X overclocked to 4Ghz, with 4 cores disabled is about equally matched with a 7700k clocked at 4Ghz. Of course thats not the whole story because the 1700X has more cores and just about maxes out at 4Ghz, and the 7700k reaches 5Ghz easily, putting the 7700k ahead in 1080p gaming and single threaded workloads.Overclocking was a bit disappointing for me. I was hoping to see higher attainable clock speed, however, this appears to be the standard limit for 8 core processors.I also wish there were more PCIe 3.0 lanes on the CPU. There are 24 total. 4 are bound to the chipset, and 4 for an NVMe SSD. That leaves 16 for the graphics cards, making SLI or Crossfire 8x8x. Real world, you should only see a few fps performance hit, but for a CPU of this caliber, it would have been nice to see full bandwidth SLI support on the chip.Lastly, there are some bugs and performance issues that need to be worked out. Thats to be expected with a brand new CPU on a brand new platform. Im confident these bugs will be ironed out with future firmware and software updates and, even further ahead, Im excited to see what future generations of AM4 chips bring. Will there be a new and improved lineup in the next year or 2So, would I recommend this chip Absolutely. But not for everyone. If you already own a 6 or 8 core CPU from the blue team, theres really no reason to get this. If ALL you care about is gaming at 1080p, then this isnt your best option. If youre running Ivy Bridge or older or any AMD chip thats not Ryzen, then this would be a good upgrade. If youre building a new computer and want a well rounded CPU with great priceperformance, then this is a great choice.Dont take my word for it. Do your research. Look at the benchmarks. Read reviews. For me this was a great buy and a great upgrade. No remorse. Its on sale right now. Snatch it up

I put together a build with this cpu being the centerpiece and it worked very well for quite a few months, however tonight when i shut down the computer and gave it a good dust cleaning with some air, when plugged back up it wouldnt post. I scoured the internet for information and remidies to try and fix this. After hours of looking reading and trying different things the diagnosis was the motherboard is not posting because the cpu isnt communicating. I carefully undid the contained liquid cooling unit from atop the cpu and it looked fine. Carefully cleaned the thermal past off and gently removed it from the socket and inspected the pins and pin inserts on the mobo and i could find nothing physically wrong. Im not sure what has happened but its fortunate i dont have editing work to do right now or this would be deviststing. Hopefully my warranty claim goes through quickly for repair or replacement.

I overclocked the CPU to 4GHz paired with 16GB of DDR4 RAM 3333MHz. My main PC has a Core i7 5960X 4.4GHz. Most of the time the performance difference was too small to notice. In most cases I would have no concerns about using this CPU over an Core i7 7700K or Core i7 6800K. The only significant exception is if you play poorly threaded fast paced games on a 1080P 120Hz monitor. In this situation an overclocked Core i7 7700K or Core i5 7600K is a better option. This is not a problem in games that can effectively utilize more threads. especially DX12Vulkan titles

This is a solid new CPU architecture, providing exceptional multithreaded performance, solid singlethreaded performance and very good power efficiency. In my opinion the 1700X is the best value if you dont plan to overclock. The 1800X is slightly faster but significantly more expensive while the 1700 at stock is clearly inferior, especially in singlethreaded gaming performance. Even if you plan to overclock, all Zen cores are limited by design and current process technology to at most 3.94.1GHz so the gains can be relatively limited, even if you have a lot of patience and a good quality chip.Compared with Intel, the Xeons or the 6950X are faster if money is no object 1500, the 7700K is faster for gaming but slower for most multithreaded tasks and the 2011 Intel platform offers more memory capacity 8xDIMM but is significantly more expensive. All KabySkylake overclock much better, but cannot compensate in multithreaded tasks. To make it short in this price range, if you only game, get the 7700K, if you also do other stuff, especially compilationvideo encoding, consider the 1700X. Be aware of some minor difficulties with the maturing platform before buying and be prepared to tune RAM clocks, update the BIOS a few times and adjust a few settings here and there. For example, Ryzen seems to operate better with an AMD power plan instead of the default balanced provided by windows. You can easily find it online. Similarly, confirm that you have an AM4compatible cooler. Ideally, plan for Ryzenspecific RAM.My personal experience with this processor has been stellar until know, especially for compilation ultrafast and video encoding.

Its great that this thing has 8 cores, and maybe someday some games will make use of them. As it stands now, they dont. The games I play barely use 3. The Ryzen also doesnt quite clock as high at its competitor, which makes it lack performance a bit in games. Also, these are heavily binned, so my 1700X did not overclock nearly as high as I had hoped, only reaching 3.7GHz. The 1800X does overclock better on average, so it is worth the extra 100 if you want to get to 4GHz. If you want more than 4GHz, go with Intel.Still, for other things, this CPU rocks. I have a VM using 4 cores for some majorly processor intensive tasks running almost constantly, and can still game on the same system without issue. I could not do that with my old quad core 4790K. So, Im pretty good with that.

But thats ok, because Im crushing Intels top CPU in most benchmarks. Because of the software supportgame support issues, theres a lot of negativity, but thats a good thing since it just means AMD is back in the game with a much more powerful chip than Intel and its scaring the intel fanboys. Pros8c16TCPU can overclock 8 cores to 3.5Ghz and a single core to 3.8Ghz or 3.9Ghz with XFR while temps are low.Performance is equal to Haswell 5th generation from Intel. This CPU is supposed to match higher core number CPUs from intel such as 5960k 8C16T, they have different architecture than 7700k 4C8T that has lower base clock and worse single thread performance, and less Instructions per clock. It performs exactly the same and cost way less. Can run multiple Virtual machines if you sort out all the troubles with it. Current state 2017 May is full of bugs for VM. So if you plan on emulating something you will have to be patient.ConsNo integrated GPU personal preference for ease of mindNot much overclocking headroom. Depending on the silicon lottery and the board you can get this chip overclocked to 3.94.0Ghz maybe 4.1Ghz.Game performance is slower by 14 compared to 7600k and 23 7700k in single threaded performance.Keep in mind that some tasks cannot be split onto different cores. Also, coding for multi threading is much harder and requires much more efforts and funds. So transition wont be anytime soon.Architecture 8 cores are divided into 2 modules each having 4 cores. Those 8 cores are sharing L3 cache so there could be some performance penalty comparing 4 core workload, 8 core workload with Intel and if one core needs some information from another module there will be small performance penalty. Since this is R7 no cores are disabled unlike their R5 counterparts. Having slightly slower base clock speed than 1800x due to not meeting all standards for 1800x or just turning down clock speed to make a chip. Note that it does not cost more to make 1800x compared to 1400.ConclusionGreat CPU for good value. I advise to think what will be your use case. 7600k, 7700k are still superior in games by 14 23. Of course you will need Gtx 1080 or 1080 ti in games to make use of that. So if you are 2in1 user that wants to game a little and do content creation this is your best option. Otherwise go with Intel.

ProsGood speed for the price and easily overclocked while remaining stable.Solid multicore performance.Great for multicore rendering and heavy use applications requiring more than a quad core.Good thermals overall with a solid case and good cooling.Cost effective especially when compared with competing Intel products. Was able to buy a CPU, Motherboard, and RAM for the price of a similar Intel CPU.In real world gaming performance theres little difference between this and an Intel CPU. Noticeable improvement when used in conjunction with newer directX geared cards.Good selection of varied boards many with excellent BIOS and support. Ive found this especially true of my ASUS board and MSI board.Easily outstripped my i7 4770K in multicore performance and gaming. Per clock is just a hair behind it when rendering the same workload. However with more cores I can just distribute the same workload to achieve faster rendering.ConsIntegrated memory controller seems to have issues with anything above 2400MhzRAM becomes unstable even with much higher performing RAM. Tried 3 different kits and two Motherboards both of which yielded the same results.Still needs much improved memory support to find out why the integrated memory controller seems to have so many issues. All in all Ive found this to be a very reasonable and fun CPU to have for the price and far exceeds most of my expectations. I would like to see substantial improvement of the integrated memory controller and error control. Compared to the Intel side of things though this is excellent performance for a fraction of the price.

This is the latest technology as of early 2017 and is very powerefficient too. Very nice for a computer build.I was able to test it to 4100 MHz then backed down to normal speed. At 4000 MHz it runs faster measured by CPUZ than any intel desktop processor in single core and in multicore modes.Wanted to give it 4.5 stars but rounded up. Halfstar off for not being as robust as 1800X for running memory at fully rated speed. With 1700X I was able to get 320016 memory up to 293314 which is equally good datawise but still not the same speed as 1800X can get.Memory maximum attainable speed with any Ryzen is both memorydependent and cpudependent. I talked with the Knowledge Bar folks at Microcenter and they showed me the best memory to pair with this processor. With the April 2017 MC motherboard bundle discount it is the best bang for the buck. They also have a bundle discount for Windows when you get cpumotherboard.

I picked this over the 1700X because the prices were so competitive that I opted for the better silicon lottery choice. This is an awesome cpu that OCed to 4.1Ghz with no issues and reasonable temperatures. I will use it at 3.9 Ghz with voltage offset to 1.33 volts at idle and even lower under load. Temperatures are at 25 degrees C at idle and 55 degrees max under load in my loop. Paired with fast ram 3200 Mhz G. Skill it really screams thru the benchmarks. While it is not the best cpu for gaming, I do a fair amount of video editing and other productivity based work so multicore performance clearly makes the 1800X an easy choice and with AMD it should get even better over time as updates improve gaming performance too. Micro Centers price made the choice even easier paired with an ROG Crosshair VI board.

I believe that 99 of users wouldnt be able to notice any difference anyway. There are some issues with whole platform though. Memory incompatibilities and occasional strange freezes that disappear after reboot. Most of the problems already addressed by BIOS updates. And I was ready for this type of issues. Early adopters always experience issues with new platforms whether it is Amd, Intel or Nvidia.Anyway, this is really good processor with great potential once games start being optimized for Ryzen. To the people complaining the 1700 is the same that is just not true. The 1700 has a 65w TDP instead of 95W and it is binned lower than the 1700x that is even lower than the 1800x. Due to the lower TDP and lower binning there is no way your 1700 will ever perform as well as my 1800x. Period. This will overclock much further than a 1700. You get what you pay for and this also helps out AMD rewarding them for making a good product to compete against Intel. For that reason alone its worth it to me still considering it can best much more expensive cpus from intel.

Great deal for what is still a very potent contender in the allrounder PC market. True, it may fall short in core speed, but it excels in all other aspects. I can see it serving my needs for many, many years to come, which is not something I felt with my old i5Intel PC.My only inhibitor to giving it 5 stars is that even as a modest gamer, Ive already experienced some of its limits as a CPU, especially in terms of overclocking. Mine was MOSTLY stable at 4.0GHz on water to be fair, not the beefiest water setup for sure see my recommended cooler for reference, but the supposed smallthread gains to be had didnt really justify the risks involved, as the gains were minimal.Being able to game on 48 threads while allowing the rest of the coresthreads to be utilized elsewhere by the system is enough of an enabler on its own compared to what was possible with older 4 core systems.

This product would be great if it was optimized out of the box with the recommended bundle that Microcenter provides. Windows 10 pro 64 bit, 8 gb hyper x 2300 mhz ram and 6 tb hard drive. Constant lagging issues even after updating windows, updating bios, updating the amd chip drivers, and using ryzen master not to mention the 1213 difference turning on high performance mode. This is a very poorly optimized option for the consumer and not every beginning gamer are going to know these things need to be changed. My current setup a Xeon x3470 2010 series 16 Gb of hyperx memory along with a RX 580 performs way better then this processor and I bought my x3470 for 20 on ebay again I cannot stress it enough this product was not ready to be used with the ab350m Asrock motherboard. I was very disappointed and will be returning this product later today. And yes I understand the product is new and there are new updates coming out but in order for them to sell this product it should have been optimized before it was released to the consumer sorry not sorry.

If you are looking for a CPU for video editing and content creation this is the processor to get. With its 8 cores and 16 threads, you will also be able to multitask do other things with your computerwhile your computer is processing your files instead of just waiting for your computer to finish processing your video or content. For PC gaming it also gets the job done and will also be able to handle any games current and future and allow you to stream your games to an online audience at the same time.

I bought this to build a VR rigrift. NO RAGRETS. Hz for Hz its everything an intel is for half the price. Do I wish it had the same or higher clock as an intel, YES. But, I dont really need the extra cycles for gaming. I overclocked to 4.1 and it made no difference at all in my actual FPS during gameplay, only a tiny bit on the benchmark.

Beware that NVIDIA still has issues in their software scheduler when using Ryzen CPUs, potentially causing significant performance penalties in some DX9, DX10, and DX12 games. Up to and over 30 performance penalties. Again this is not entirely the fault of the CPU, but to give an example of performance decreases in some games caused by NVIDIAs software scheduler and also old engines not liking the new architecture Crysis performs over 30 worse at 2560 x 1440 with this CPU and 2933 MHz RAM the most my CPUboard can handle compared to a modest 4.4 GHz i7 6700k with 3200 MHz RAM, making the 1700X GTX 1080 Ti combo perform slightly worse than an i7 6700k GTX 1080 combo XCOM 2 went from 110 FPS to 80 FPS average when switching from the i7 6700k to the 1700X at 2560 x 1440 with a GTX 1080 Ti. But the vast majority of modern games perform nearly the same on both. Needs a refresh and NVIDIA needs to fix their nonsense. A refresh with infinity fabric tied 11 with RAM speeds, faster RAM support, and 4.5 GHz and beyond frequencies would be killer.

I am considered a power user, and do far more than just gaming, which makes this the best choice hands down. Video encoding, programkernel compiling, dual headed QEMUKVM gaming machine, and more. Sorry Intel, AMD has won me over this time. If I can buy a top end CPU and GPU for the same price you were charging me for just the CPU, then its time to rethink that strategy.

AMD had 5 years to get this right and they blew it. Why have such a high end cpu only support dual channel and not even fully support all of the memory slots. The motherboard manufacturers all got the same data from AMD. I doubt this is going to get resolved and we are stuck with bad cpus that we cannot return for a refund. Developers are not going to go out of their way to take the extra expense to write code to support this CPU. A few that AMD pays to do it maybe. I had to buy another motherboard from a local store so I had one ready to test since the one I ordered from Newegg wont be here until March 6th or 7th. Updated the latest bios and still only 2 memory slots are working correctly. I should have known better due to AMDs reputation The Yugo of computer platforms. This cpu line should have been the iteration of Piledriver and code named Pileofcrap. At least I can make a file server out of it since I cant return it. Does not even deserve one egg to be honest but I cant post without an egg, so AMD gets one undeserved egg.

I would recommend this product. If youre buying it, you know what it is. What you need to know is that this is the place to buy it from. I had an issue that wouldve cost my client a lot of money with the product being delayed, and they resolved it immediately. Staples also price matched, and removed an additional ten percent off of the processor from a place who offered it at nearly half the price due to an overstock sale. I will definitely be buying the parts that I can from Staples.

Windows 10s task manager CPU utilization looks hilarious in logical processors mode. There are just so many threads For me, the 1700X from the Ryzen 7 lineup was the sweet spot. The 1700X is binned higher than the 1700 maybe an indicator for OC potential, omits a stock cooler since I was going for a highend water cooled AIO, and it is priced well below the 1800X. Combine that midtier price with a 100 motherboard combo discount from Microcenter, and you have yourself a great deal. I paired my 1700X with the Asrock X370 Taichi for its robust power phase design. Its been fairly smooth sailing with my new Ryzen 7 system.I upgraded from a delidded 4770k Haswell system which was running at 4.4GHz. I think Ive made out OK with the silicon lottery. Im able to run 247 stable 3.9GHz and 1.35V. Id really love to get to 4GHz because round numbers, but my chips thirst for voltage is insatiable at that speed. Ive been unable to get a stable overclock at 4GHz all the way up to 1.4V. Im wary of going much higher than that even with a Kraken X62 dissipating the thermal load. I mostly play games, edit photos, and dabble in video editing. The Ryzen system at 3.9GHz has been aces at all of those activities.

I find that the Ryzen 7 1800x is a great cpu for the price. Its performance is excellent for someone with my workload, allowing for almost no lag while running multiple productivity applications. The only real downside at this point is purely down to the silicon lottery, my processor simply will not hit 4 Ghz at this point but I suspect its more due to my motherboard than the chip, but is rock solid at 3.9Ghz.I recommend pairing this with the fastest memory you can up to 3200mhz as it has marked performance increases with faster memory.

I really enjoy the versatility of this processor. I understand that most people are underwhelmed by the gaming performance of the Ryzen chips however I feel like the gap between R7 and the i7 Kaby Lake is mostly trivial being roughly 38 FPS in most cases. However on the other side with production and content creation side the Ryzen holds a substantial lead over anything Intel offers in the same price range.I was fortunate enough to pick this processor up at 350 and couldnt be happier with the priceperformance ratio. The downsides would be only two fold for me1. The processor did not come with a fan, so it was another 3035 added to the total cost.2. The architecture is still quite new and as a result the motherboard bios are not yet mature. Ive built two systems for daily use one using a Gigabyte motherboard and the other using an ASUS motherboard. Both have had separate issues with things like RAM timing and general peripherals but after a few weeks now they have moreorless been resolved. I do look forward to better compatibility and expect to see more on this as the R5 series is released in the coming weeks.Overall, if you are buying a system and do more than gaming I couldnt recommend this processor enough. The dollar to performance ratio is fantastic and the throughput for content creation is beyond anything Ive been able to previously achieve in this price range. Great work to AMD and kudos to Micro Center for the good price.

Due to the motherboard shortage, it took me a while to test this thing out. I still havent had time to test overclocking. I heard rumors of possible memory problems and saw DDR4 prices were spiking so I bought some DDR42400 memory on sale. I will probably replace that memory when prices drop. I am a casual gamer, but I dont play the types of games where I will care about or notice 4 FPS difference. I probably will end up underclocking this CPU except when I need extra horsepower.

The AMD Ryzen launch has been a rough one, not as bad as Intels i9 announcement, but I digress. The performance to the price is amazing for this.First off, the gaming performance has been pretty amazing. I have it paired with a Nvidia GTX 1080. Most games run pretty well even able to get to 4k resolution on some. Most games work as expected only a few games dont work as expected, and for those few pulling down the graphical fidelity usually fixes the issues.Secondly, the editing performance is crazy. The extra cores really show their power here. I use Premier Pro and the timeline playback has no issues when editing 1080p30, 1080p60, or 2160p30. Then when doing the export its very quick at 1080p, and at 2160p its reasonable speed. The more RAM you can give to Adobes editing software the better itll run.Lastly, the support has slowly increased and keeps getting better. Initially the support was terrible and most motherboards didnt know what to do with RAM XMP profiles. In the last couple weeks Asus and MSI have updated their motherboards to support even more types of DDR4. To get the best performance out of your motherboard check the website for what RAM it supports. One other thing to note about temperatures is that all software, other than the bios, will show plus twenty degrees celsius for processor temperatures.TLDRGreat processor for editing, Decent one for gaming, theres still some small quirks.

1800X allows most RAM which is on the motherboard Qualified Vendor List to run at rated capacity. This means that this 1800X will communicate with the computer memory as fast as possible when installed in the motherboard which allows it. Each motherboard maker has a published list on their website which shows what memory was tested working with their boards. This is usually in the motherboard description under Support. Better read up on that list first to save time.As example, 320016 memory ran at the rated 3200 MHz. Slower CPUs 1700X and 1700 have much less chance to run memory at its fully rated speed. 1700X and 1700 are still excellent deals with 8 cores, but if you want top speed and stability, you may want 1800X.The best deal as of April 2017 at MC is when CPU is bundled with a motherboard.

If you are a video gamer, which is much more likely, it is probably best to wait for ThreadRipper but then get a lower core one. Then you will still get all those PCI lanes to make your video cards hum. And with the bigger contact surface, you can probably cool it better. If you have a tighter budget, Ryzen is a good choice, but perhaps the 1700X. Then again, when ThreadRipper comes out Ryzen prices may come down, and this 1800X might be a great option even if it is the top Ryzen chip. The particular waterblock you choose can have a major effect on cooling. I had to modify my OCZ Technology OCZTHYDF HydroFlow HFMK1. And not just a new mounting plate. The contact was too small. It was limiting my overclock to 3800MHz. But I sanded down the bump and got it flat and shiny, and that is why I am getting got temps and a stable 4000MHz and much less than dangerous voltages. You want the whole surface of the chip covered by the waterblock. I used a power sander I put in a vise to grind it down most of the way. Then I did the rest by hand with wet silicon carbide 800 grit, 1000 grit, 2000 grit and 2500 grit. You tape the paper to a very hard very flat surface like a mirror. Mostly use the 800. The rest is just to get it very smooth wit no deep scratches.

I make electronic music and this CPU is a life saver. I had a 4 core i7 before that would barely chug along when I had too many plugins open. With larger projects Id have to do the composition then render each stem to do the mixing in another project. It was a major pain bouncing around projects and losing the ability to make small tweaks when mastering. Now I do everything composition, mixing, and mastering in one project. My latest track only hits 80 CPU load with dozens of plugins running a mastering chain on the master track most sounds being synthesized in real time. I have it paired with a Noctua NHD15 and some extra case fans this thing stays VERY quiet which is excellent when working with audio. Long story short, this CPU is godsend for multithreaded work. I HIGHLY recommend it to any doing audio work.

This went into a new computer build and new motherboard, of course to replace an AMD Athlon III 3.1 Ghz. Despite only a modest jump in speed, this processor races past the older CPU in notable ways. Installation was easy. Dont force it into the AM4 socket. Get the golden triangle aligned and move it around lightly until it drops into place. It has many thin pins to connect to the processor socket on the motherboard, so take your time. I am dual booting this computer like the last one, and the computer feels very fast in Linux and very fast in Windows. While they might not be the best CPUs that money can buy, I think the AMD Ryzen CPUs offer the best value for your money. Speaking of price, two things The price on this dropped 50 the day after I purchased it. Grrrr Compared with the Ryzen 7 1800X, this was clearly a better value. The 1800X offered just a 0.2 Ghz speed jump, but the price difference was about 150 when I purchased September 2017. I havent delved into overclocking. Maybe in the future. Im watercooling this CPU with the Corsair H60. No problems so far. Im very pleased to have selected the Ryzen 7 1700X for this build. I have no complaints about this. UDPATE Just wanted to add that Ive been running this CPU at 3.6Ghz. I am going to run it as this speed for a month and then maybe step it up to 3.8Ghz. UPDATE II Ive been running the CPU at 3.8Ghz for several weeks without any issues. In fact, it runs so soothly that I dont even think about it. I dont like how Microsoft got its partners to drop support for Windows XP78 to the point that installing any of these OSs becomes a major undertaking. I run this CPU on a Linux build about 90 of the time and spend my time in Win10 for multimedia production. When rendering video in Magix Movie Studio 14 the series was formerly a Sony product, there is support for multithread CPUs. Ive found that rendering times decreased when limiting the number of threads. When using all 16 threads, rendering a onehour video stalled on multiple attempts roughly at 18 completion. When limiting it to eight threads, the video rendered in about 45 minutes. When limited to four threads, the time was about the same. I need to do some more experimenting with this. When rendering short three or fourminute videos, this CPU combined with a CUDAcompliant GPU, the computer handles those tasks easily. Really easily. UPDATE Ive been playing around a bit with overclocking. I first bumped the speed to 3.6Ghz and this week boosted it to 3.7Ghz. So far, no problems. IMPORTANT NOTE One thing that I want to mention is that you should not run the Ryzen Master software at the same time as your motherboards overclocking software. It could cause a conflict that prevents your computer from running.

This cpu is okay for gamers, and is great for content creators such as you tubers or streamers as it allows enough cores and threads for fast render times and multitasking but also manages enough single core performance to run any game you can throw at it some highlights of my time with the cpu so far, ArmA 3, hoi4, metro series gta v etc all ultra 60fps, and I have worked with sony vagus and blender on it for great results Who should buy this Any one on intel 7th gen or before though an 8th gen i7 or any i9 cpu will likely be better overall then this ryzen Anyone on any amd platform that isnt am4

So, most of the reviewers online tech tubers like Linus, Gamers Nexus and the like, are as one could predict reres. They will make the statement that the 1700 or 1700X is the better value and this chip is superfluous, etc. They clearly dont seem to understand how any of this works. So, lets break it down 1 The techtoober tardos say you can OC the cheaper 1700 to match this ones clocks. While technically true, see point 2. 2 In research done by Micosoft and many OEM partners, including ASUS, it has been publicly noted and discussed that less than 1 of 1 of system builders thats you guys, reading this review will actually Overclock their hardware. Be honest Youre probably reading this thinking Yeah, well, I might OC… and then youll buy hardware, build your PC and decide that an overclock, while fun to play with, is probably not the best idea for daily driving and youll reset your stuff back to factory defaults when youre done playing. Because you know factory defaults, while not exciting, dont void warranties and pretty much guarantee stability. All of which is saying that the techtoober tardos should probably shut up about regular joes like you and I needing to OC our gear. Theyre getting paid the big bucks by advertisers, so they dont care if their warranties are voided and their stuff which they are often given for free fries like an egg. But this is your hardearned cash and you probably do. Plus, OCing equipment not only takes time, it takes knowledge and, if anything goes wrong or crashes, youll be digging through settings, temperatures and tweaking and testing until it is right again. 3 Clocks per model are where the chip tested at its highest available while keeping the desired temperature and wattage outputs. In other words, out of the box, 1800X has better clocks, XFR, etc. than the two lower models because it tested better, which means it was binned higher. Which is like winning at the slot machines for the silicon lottery right off the production line. In short, these chips are better all the way around than their lowerbinned brothers. 4 Truth Price to Performance, this isnt the best Ryzen 7 the 17001700X will be better deals for a lot of folks. This chip isnt for them. Its for the person that wants the best stock clocks available without having to worry about endless tweaking and overclocking. If that sounds like you, this is your chip. Personally, I didnt pay the semipremium price for this particular chip on launch which is when I got it because it was the best or anything of the sort. It was the topend model really wish I had know about Threadripper, dagnabit available, it is the brainchild of Jim Keller who is the rock star of rock stars in CPU engineering, its AMDs first core with SMT and most importantly Im sick and tired of Intels monopolistic bullsugar and Intel Hammer Legion Members. If this hadnt been such an absolutely stellar performer, I might have slunk sulkily back to my Ivy Bridge Extended 4930K build and just waited for the next big thing, but it IS rock solid it IS completely stellar it is a party in your PC case and everyone is invited. I upgraded from my ancient 2600K Sandy Bridge CPU, and the primary reason I held off upgrading for so long was that every Intel chip since Sandy Bridge has not been soldered as it should have been and gets too HOT with only minor performance increases. I actually bought a 7700k and associated components but was horrified to discover the temps that it can reach while awaiting its arrival during shipping. I decided to send it back unopened and shopped until I got a good deal on the Ryzen 1800x. Im aware the 1700 is the bargain of R7 chips, but I got my 1800x with a game for just 319 and decided Id just get the better binned chip for that hugely discounted price. Please note The temperatures reported in BIOS and HW checkers for the 1700x and 1800x are not correct junction temperatures. There is an additional 20C offset temperature applied for the two X models due to the XFR feature. This isnt a big deal and canwill be fixed in time. Once the AM4 socket has a little time to mature there will be greater optimization in Win10 and other tasks. All in all, I would buy this CPU again.

If i were you and you have the money and are not one to over clock get the 1800 or 1800x or hell even the 1700x. All good options but if you have the money and want a little bit more computing and speed along with some faster loads and less load on the cpu and temps without the hassle and worrying of overclocking and messing something up learned first hand with my 4.04.36 ghz processor when i tried to over clock it a little more and its had temp issues ever since. Go with the 1800x and get you a good cooler, i recommend a water cooler, but noctua and cooler master along with cryorig and deep cool make some decent air coolers which run almost the same temps as an aio water cooler within1015c depending on what cooler you buy. I have also heard that amds 1700x wraith cooler is one of the best out there for stock coolers and even aftermarket and its RGB.. A lot of these coolers out you will need to do research on to see if they are already AM4 compatible or if you need a bracket luckily a couple corsairs, deepcools, and nzxts aio watercooling solutions are compatible.

I would highly recommend waiting a month or two to see what reviews come out to be able to choose a good STABLE motherboard as it looks like some boards are problematic right now. If you have to have this chip, I would recommend the B370 boards as ive seen ever so slightly better performance out of those boards in general in several benchmarks System info AMD Ryzen 1700x stock clocks for now MSI B350 Tomahawk motherboard Corsair Vengeance LED KZ8204 CL15 3000mhz ddr4 ram 2x8gb will only run at CL17 2133mhz Corsair H100i 54c idle 68c max Corsair CS750M PSU EVGA GTX 1070 SC overclocked to 1968 mhz Samsung 850 PRO 512 sata SSD 2x120mm fans in push pull For someone who is doing a first build i would not recommend this chip JUST YET as there are quite a few bugs that have not been worked out that will surely leave people with a bad taste in their mouth. For someone who is just looking to game at 1080p and will be upgrading their CPU yearly please just go buy a cheap Intel I5 and call it a day. If you plan on VR or 1440p and up gaming i would assume this chip will do just fine for the next two to three years. However if you are comfortable with tweaking and tinkering around, I would highly recommend this Thanks newegg

VERY good processor and AMD is back It doesnt compare overall to a 6900K or 5960x. The Single threaded loads are not as quick. But those processors are in a different price bracket all together. This swings above it price point.SMT is the best feature of the Zen architecture. Its more efficient than Intels Hyper Threading allowing for excellent Parallel load processing like Handbrake where it matches or exceeds a higher OC 8 core part. Excellent there.Single threaded…not so much. Its about 25 behind Intel BWE BroadwellE which is was designed to compete with. FAST memory can close the gap but not eliminate it.Overall use…theres some weird pausesstuttering while in use at random intervals. RAM timings appear to affect this the most. Most users wouldnt notice. So its an odd noticed issue…that isnt easy to replicate. But this architecture is less than a year old competing against Intels uArch that is derived from the 2004 CoreM design. So as it matures, I believe these issues will go away and it becomes even better.Easy choice if you need maximum bang for the buck and need more than 46 cores. Good enough for most gamers honestly…if you are NOT using 144240Hz refresh rate monitors and high end GPUs it matters not and a boon for those that multitask or do any kind of processor intensive task.

I built a new PC to replace a 2009 Dell running a Core i7920 and selected the Ryzen 7 1700X as my processor based on its price, performance and the bang for the buck. It has not let me down. I havent overclocked it or anything, but the speed at which Ive been able to edit and encode video files for DVD projects is night and day compared to my life before the Ryzen 7 1700X. I havent had any temp issues and my build is stable and reliable. I highly recommend this processor for the great value.

I will start this review by stating DO NOT BUY THIS CPU FOR JUST GAMING. Nobody needs an 8 core and 16 thread cpu just to game on with how current games are optimized. The same goes for the 6900k. Zen is lacking substantially in the game optimization department at the moment but that should improve in the future. Companies were only given a few weeks to prep for Ryzens release. Now when it comes to using this cpu for more workstation related tasks, it is fantastic. It easily matches and even exceeds the 6900k in some tasks while never lagging behind by more than 5 or so in my experiences. This kind of performance for less than half the price of the competitor is phenomenal. My old 5820k doesnt even stand a chance.I bought this CPU for use while streaming and playing in good quality and for video editingrendering with some game design on the side. So far it has done everything I could have asked for.At the moment, these chips dont seem to be the fantastic overclockers like I had hoped with previous AMD chips but hopefully some improvements can be made with bios and microcode updates.Overall, its a good chip but I dont recommend buying one for strictly gaming anytime soon. There just isnt enough games optimized to use more than 4 cores at the moment.

I would recommend. Built a new system to replace a couple year old i7 system. Sorry dont remember specifics, it is boxed away in pieces. First AMD I have owned. I noticed the 8 cores immediately as I am an insane multi tasker. Have crashed systems intel trying to just do what I do. Multiple photo editors, games, vid, and I have accepted that I cannot compile stuff while running everything else at the current affordable tech level. Ryzen stands up to my multi monitor, multi use stuff. I stream now and then and it aint no thang.

While it isnt the most current release of the Ryzen 7, the 8 core, 16 thread processor easily OC and is very stable at 3.77 GHz using the Asus tools that came with my MB.This combined with 16gb RAM and Samsung M.2 SSD has bootup to 20 sec. the MS login screen and another 10 sec. to load all of the background programs.Out of sleep mode is instantaneous.

first gen ryzen stuff has some jank. i bought the cheapest b350 micro atx mobo i could find and it wont be stable at 3200mhz on my ram. i can get to 3066mhz. which in actuality im totally fine with just not something you see on intel. i built a second computer with this 16gb of ram and a rx 570 in a super small cheap case. this is my extra pc and its going to do great for esport gaming at 1080p and some pubgBLOPS at medium to high settings. super happy. there was nothing better you could get for the 150 although if ur a gamer if you can get the 2600 or 2600x for 150 i would do that because the better single core performance and overclocking you can get out of that chip makes it slightly better. I just wanted an 8 core machine.

When compared to the correct Intel chip, the 1000 6900k series, there is no question that this chip is the better buy. It received some undeserved flack for single core gaming performance. But who cares if you get 10 less FPS, when its nearly even or beats the 1k Intel chips in multi core performance for HALF THE PRICE

I purchased the Ryzen 7 1800X after viewing all of the deals Microcenter offered on their site one day, as I browsed their lovely selection in search of PC parts for a build Im doing for a friend. Needless to say, I stumbled upon the 1800X selling for 200 Or perhaps it stumbled upon me… no matter. I ended up purchasing it faster than a college student running to a 9AM Physics Exam, as they just woke up 5 minutes before it started. Im moving from a Ryzen 5 1600X, which might I add, is a lovely CPU and gets the job done. The 1800X has it all Streaming DONE. Gaming DONE. Rendering DONE. Virtual Reality DONE. Multitasking DONE. I highly recommend this CPU, especially if its on sale. You wont regret itProof is attached that the Ryzen 7 1800X makes your PC run at the speed of light.

The boot times for at least MSI motherboard is terrible. It has got better since launch however you never get to see your bios screen, I find that very irritating. With an after market cooler I also cannot get precision boost to work. I have tried all possible settings, yet still my 2 cores will not boost… I am stumped on this. Other than the above issues it is a decent chip. One thing is for sure… at 1080p gaming it is not noticeably faster than my AMD FX 8350 was. Hopefully this will all change in the future.

I just got the Ryzen 7 1700x today. I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 1600.I thought that cpu was amazing and it was but I was shocked when I dropped this Ryzen 7 1700x in its spot. This thing is just simply amazing First thing I noticed was the speed fight out of the gate. Then I played some games and it was the difference between night and day. Ive had Intel Core I7s before I had the Devils Canyon i7 4790 and I thought it was great and it was but this chip is in a whole different league.I couldnt be happier with you AMD. Coming from the x99 platform, specifically a i7 5930k, I am not disappointed one bit. I am very happy with my purchase and the performance feels the same as what Im coming from. Only now, I have a little more head room with the extra two physical cores and 4 logical threads, just at a cheaper price. I also get to enjoy the benefits of a new platformchipset in the x370 and the features that it brings. I would absolutely recommend Ryzen to all but those that need the VERY best or those that simply demand it although, I still think Ryzen would satisfy many of those users needs. Whats stopping you Pull the trigger. I seriously doubt you will be disappointed.

something id like to see eventually is an led border either on a mobo..or the side of the die itself that protrudes light from the sides of the socket. aios tend to showcase their own designs with their leds..but they dont really show much light on the hardware you have it mounted on. most people use rgb strips or the leds included with their fans to give the lighting they want. id like to somehow showcase my cpu like how tvmonitors look when on a wall with an led strip behind it, lighting up the wall..giving your monitor a colored wall border. seems more practical with a mobo design..but..hey..i like to think outside the box sometimes

This processor was well worth the wait and the purchase. I had to activate XMP 2.0 on my motherboard for it to properly read my RAM, but this worked and its been smooth since. I have not attempted to overclock the RAM yet but I may down the line as Ive read that RAM speed ties into much improved performance of the Ryzen series CPUs. RAM was the major headache for most folks but I believe my motherboard choice has helped a lot as the company is consistently improving the BIOS Asrock X370 Taichi, highly recommended and read my review. Overall, this has been a very smooth CPU. Boot times on my 2 or so year old SSD are approximately 40 seconds from start button push to completely loaded and ready to go including typing In password. No discernible stutter on anything Ive done yet gaming, opening documents, web browsing. Everything is noticeably smooth on my machine now. Ive paired it with a GTX 1060 6GB from Asus and my gameplay at 1080p has greatly improved over my FX8350GTX 960. I wanted to take a chance on this processor as Ive been using AMD for years and I am not disappointed. I enjoy a little bit of a challenge when it comes to PCs and this was more than acceptable I expected to have to do a little homework. It is a new platform and was going to endure some difficulties in the beginning. Over time this platform will improve. I can say Ive never used Intel in one of my main rigs and perhaps they are great but I like that I paid less than half for similar performance over the I76900K and I have a system whose platform will be around for many more years.

Ive been meaning to build a new computer for about 3 years now, and the 1800x is wonderful. I have a small youtube channel and do some light editing work. Compared to my last PC the actual editing sees very little difference, but rending a 30 min clip takes a lot less time than it took with my i5.The thing I like about it the most is that when I stream my friends no longer complain about frames stuttering, so not only can I stream at a higher resolution than my old i5, I no longer drop as many frames.Overall Im very happy.

Overall a still potent CPU in mid2019, especially considering price and performance. Its 8 cores16 threads configuration proved to be a fantastic performer, so much so that 8C16T is quickly becoming the new standard configuration in the 2nd half of 2019 with both AMD and Intel. Gotta admit that with the 1700Xs great performance its hard to justify upgrading to a 3rd gen Ryzen until prices finally drop a bit.

I am not a avid AMD nor avid Intel fan, but a best for the consumer fan.Dont believe all these reviews saying this is a bad processor, it is not. AMD has finally since the Athlon series released a great processor. Actually let me rephrase that AMD has finally released a great OVERALL AFFORDABLE POWERHOUSE processor. As a logical consumer this is what we want, value and competition from both Intel and AMD.It does wonders for production and is great for gaming. All these peoplereviews talking about how bad it is for gaming… 510fps… that is not real world experience, but synthetic benchmarks. Keep in mind that game companies for years developed their games based on Intel. IF you think 510fps is going to make you a better gamer… sorry it doesnt. Also remember that of all these benchmarks, Ryzen never got close to 100 CPU loads, games will get optimized and coded for Ryzen now that it is here. With this new platform and architecture it will only get better as developers start developing their games and programs for what is now finally accessible and affordable to the regular consumer A Powerhouse Processors.

I would buy this chip or the newer iteration of it for all my systems if I could. I would also like to say, I dont write reviews for a product until at least 6 months of owning it. So we finally see some competition in the high end CPU space. This is seriously a great chip at a great price, theres a few teething issues which is why I only gave it 4 stars but its all cosmetic minor things most people wouldnt notice. They added 20c to the temperature showing so fan curves need to be adjusted or might be a bit loud and there is some memory speed compatibility issues at the moment, but that should be sorted within the next few months. Would recommend in terms of bang for buck and also that competition benefits all consumers whether Intel fans or AMD fans.

AMD really nails the PricePerformance ratio with their processors. The Ryzen 7 1800X is no exception to this rule. These processors almost all are able to hit 3.9GHz without much trouble, and many are able to hit 4.0 GHz as well. Going any higher you are playing the Silicon Lottery but even without Winning the Lottery you still get amazing performance at an incredible price. Find yourself a nice motherboard to accompany your Ryzen processor and away you go, I myself am partial to the ASRock line of motherboards but there are many other good choices. I also recommend getting a quality AiO liquid cooler to go with your CPU to keep the temps down and increase your overclocking headroom, just remember to make sure your case will fit the radiator Also when it comes to choosing memory I recommend getting a kit that used the Samsung BDie, you can often spot these by them having a speed of 3200MHz while maintaining a CAS Latency CL of 14.

I just cant complain If you were previously running an FX processor, as I was, there is just no comparison. This chip is well worth the money. If you dont need the bells and whistles of the X370 chipset, save some money and go with the B350 motherboard I opted for the MSI B350 PC Mate and it works great with this chip and the GSkill Flare X Series RAM supposedly designed for the Ryzen. Pros Excellent multithreaded performance for workstation applications. As a sports photographer, I use RawTherapee to process dozens or hundreds of highresolution raw images and this processor blasts through the job. Its about twice as fast in batch image processing as my Haswell 4th generation Core i7 laptop, and the image preview updates much faster than before as I work on each image. When every second counts, this processor delivers.Gaming performance in the latest titles is excellent, too. Assassins Creed Origins is highly multithreaded and very CPUintensive, and the Ryzen 7 1800X runs it like a champ. DOOM runs beautifully, too, with the Ryzen never skipping a beat when the action gets intense.Even in daytoday tasks like Web browsing and email, Ryzen delivers superb responsiveness and performance. Web pages load quickly, applications start up fast, and the system never feels like its starved for CPU power.Very efficient at full load. The 95W TDP is consistent with my systems observed power draw under load. Its quite remarkable what AMD has achieved.Even in the face of Intels new 6core Coffee Lake 8th generation Core processors, the Ryzen 7 1800X delivers great value for money. While AMD has processors that can deliver even better value when overclocked, if you need every last bit of performance, this chip is your best bet.Cons Singlethreaded performance can be higher. Ryzen suffers from both lower IPC and lower clock frequency than Intels processors, and this can hurt performance in some games and applications. If you play games that are very sensitive to frame rates, like CounterStrike Global Offensive, you might want to pick a highclocked Intel processor instead. This is generally not an issue with newer, more heavily threaded games, especially at higher resolutions.Ryzen processors tend to have limited overclocking potential. I was unable to get a Prime95 stable 4.1 GHz overclock at 1.4125V, and Im not willing to push the voltage much further than that. Itll probably do 4 GHz at a reasonable voltage, but thats not as good as Id like it to be.Other Thoughts This is my first fullycustom PC build, meant to be a highend system with emphasis on longterm performance and upgradeability.

I had both a 1700 and a 1700X. Performance is similar, the 1700X is faster at default an overclocks a bit more. Overclocks range between 3.9 and 4.0 GHz for the 1700X. I could not get AMDs Ryzen Master utility to work properly with the 1700, but it did work perfectly with the 1700X. My ASRock B350 motheboard had a faulty BIOS that would not correctly implement Core Voltage settings so I used Ryzen Master for overclocking. 100 recommended for anyone coming from the X58 platform. 100 recommended period, honestly. Reviews compare this pretty favorably to Intels HEDT offerings for significantly less money, so its got upper end potential for productivity and future gaming when VulkanDX12VR likely push the average game to make effective use of all 16 available threads. Pitted against Intels mainstream Kaby Lake offerings, I dont feel like Im missing anything here. The 1700X hits a sweet spot especially with that 30 off NewEgg promo code I got on it where its not negatively impacting my singlethread limited experiences while its using its sizable core count to improve my every day experience, and I strongly suspect 23 years from now this will stand as the superior solution. Most of what Ive offered in this review was applicable to all R7 models, but I do want to specifically pat the 1700X on the back for offering a solid mix of frequency and value. 3.4GHz on a modern CPU architecture is snappy, and I dont feel a need to overclock right now. I dont know if Id feel the same way with an R7 1700 at 3.0GHz base. Since I am using this PC for work, productivity, and gaming, I want it to last my i7950 survived six years, so getting excellent performance without requiring an overclock is a definite benefit for me, but is one others may not care as much about.

I replaced my FX8370 system with this about a month ago, and I dont regret it one bit. While my previous system wasnt really giving me any problems I only game at 1080p anyway, I have to say that my performance in the one online multiplayer game I run has improved significantly. I went up several levels in just the first week or so of switching to Ryzen, when I was stuck at a fairly low level for months before that. I will say that for most people, the 1700 or even the 1700x is the smarter choice. All three of the Ryzen 7 chips are essentially the same, save for base clocks speeds 3.0, 3.4 and 3.6 respectively for the 1700, 1700x and 1800x and the lack of automatic XFR clock boost on the nonx 1700. If youre willing to manually OC, then the 1700 makes the most sense budgetwise, as some people have been to push it to 3.9GHz. If you want to let Ryzen automatically OC, then theres not a huge difference between the 1700x and the 1800x, apart from the maximum turboXFR boost speeds. Having said all that, I knew that ahead of time and do not regret buying my 1800x in the slightest.

In todays world, I think 4ghz should be the standard clock speed to attain. AMDs Ryzen is hard pressed to make it to that benchmark and even harder still to clock past that. I have mine settled on a smooth 3.95ghz. Its not ideal for gaming. There are faster chips out there that offer a faster gaming experience for sure. But tomorrows world is looking like more threads will be more useful. Moreover, if you arent running a 1080p monitor, the CPU will likely not be your bottleneck. I have an ultrawide 1440p monitor and a 1080 ti. PUBG runs around 90 fps most of the time and gets into the 60s in cities and during high demand moments of the game. Its not lacking at high resolution is my point here and the bigger benefit of having an 8c HT CPU comes when I edit videos and clip scenes together. Its a work horse. Its capable of so much more than similarly priced intel offerings and even more expensive offerings from intel. Not to mention the whole platform is cheaper to buy into, not just the CPU. You could save 300400 dollars on a equally powered intel system. On water after 30 minutes of AIDA 64 stress testing, the chip got up to 57C measured by the Ryzen control center 1.35V overclocked to 3.95Ghz. Im happy with it and can wholeheartedly recommend this chip as the best bargain CPU on the market today.

Not looking to upgrade this till 2019 when 7nm LP Leading performance node is released, which should improve on the IPC and give more overhead to the frequency limit current RyZen has of 4.1Ghz safe. Do not go 1.4v or higher with ryzen for sustained periods as it has been attributed to degradation of the hardware after a few weeks. Be careful. I have a Ryzen 7 2700x and also bought the Ryzen 7 1700x and seriously there is very little difference in performance and the cost savings justifies using the 1700x if you are watching your dollars. I was able to drop in a higher RX570 GPU to team with this and I get screaming fast games and no lag. The new Ryzen series so vastly outperforms the older FX series CPUs. I would definitely recommend this to those who want VR, Gaming, and multithread operations.

Picked this up for 130 on their Black Friday deal. Had been waiting to upgrade to a r5 16002600 but when I saw this deal I had to grab it.Temps have stayed under 75 when gaming on the stock Ryzen cooler that came with my old r3 1200. Waiting to pick up a better air cooler or AIO before attempting any overclocking.Install was quick and easy.

Ive been playing with the processor for two weeks now. My first impressions are very good The performance is as expected. There were never any errors with any of the tests I performed. Even when I run a torture tests like prime95 for a long time days the temperatures does not seem to go very high. Im using Noctua NHU12S SEAM4 CPU cooler. Unfortunately I cannot give values for the temperatures because the OS Im using still does not support the sensors but the fan speed stays around 1000 rpm and the noise produced is very faint.

if you currently own a current Intel Kaby lake and all you plan on doing is gaming this processor is not for you. if you own a Kaby lake and do gaming and content creation this processor is also probably not for you. If you want the 2 extra cores spend your money on the 1700 for 329 and overclock it to 1700x levels. Now if you dont own a Kaby lake and you plan on using this processor for anything gaming, content creation or both then this is a great buy if 400 is to much then go with the 1700 and save some money either way you wont be disappointed

Really seemed to have hit the silicon lottery with this chip and a AsRock Taichi X370 motherboard. OCd to 3.9 all cores with NO voltage increase. Tried 1.4v and went 4.16 first attempt. 4.2 was stable but could only max it out for maybe 2030 minutes before my Corsair 80v2 allowed temps to shut it down. This CPU gets HOT quick under load at that speed Have since returned all settings to Auto and now it fold 247 without a hick up.

I bought this on Black Friday and used it for a week but games kept crashing after a while unless I turned off 2 cores with Ryzen Master but otherwise ran fine on all 8, without power or even heat appearing to be an issue. That said, despite the performance tests you can find online, the 2nd Gen Ryzens will blow the first gen out of the water. After Upgrading my BIOS You MUST do this if going from 1st to 2nd gen I put in a 2600X and upgraded to the new Ryzen Master only to find that it AutoOverclocks it by default to 4.2 GHZ dynamically across as many of the 6 cores as needed and rests at 2.1 when not needed. It also runs much much cooler.Gamers, definitely skip the 1700X and go for the Ryzen 2 series, particularly if you are wanting to overclock but dont have much experience doing so. NonGamers, probably still a good idea to do the same.

I ended up returning this CPU because I was completely underwhelmed by its performance. I had been building systems with i77700Ks 299 and expected more from a 459 processor that had twice the number of cores. Using an Asus Maximus VIII Hero MB Asus GTX1080 video cards it was underperforming the 7700K systems in every single test I ran. I know there are some issues with memory and things that will get ironed out, etc. and I wish AMD had a better product to motivate Intel with, but I felt this Ryzen processor fell short of the hype and is not a good investment compared with the competition. If I wanted more cores than a 7700K I would go Broadwell i76850K, either that one at the same price with six cores and hyperthreading or a 7700K at 150 less with only 4 cores will run circles around this CPU. I did try some overclocking with it and got the immediate impression there is not a lot of headroom to overclock these AMD chips much. I got about 10 was all but didnt fiddle too much.

Finally bit the bullet and upgraded to this CPU for bang per buck. I dont game so dont need the extra frames. However I program and rip videos and this thing rocks. The stock cooler is a bit noisy compared to my previous build with the EVO 212. smaller but noisier. So far had this thing since Black Friday and it rocks. Plus now I can add a bootable M.2. My old ASUS motherboard Strix X99 ROG Gaming bought the farm so I decided to switch to a different MB brand. I had too many issues with it and ASUS does not seem to care if they fix product issues, no matter how many users have them. While I was changing the MB, I decided to give a newer AMD CPU a try.I am very pleased with this AMD Ryzen 1800X. Without any overclocking, it is very zippy with 8 cores and 16 threads. It runs very cool, even at 100 load on all cores. With the same water cooler and case, the i76800K on the ASUS MB ran into the 80s C at 100 load I did redo the thermal paste to make sure that wasnt the problem this CPU has not exceeded 56C yet. My backup program is set to maximum compression and CPU priority, so it does give the CPU quite a workout on a daily basis.I have not tried to overclock it yet, except with the MB MSI B350 Tomahawk presets, which did not work well, but that is probably a MB issue more than the CPU from what I have read. From a price to performance standpoint, I think this is a very good buy.

ProsThe 1800X is probably going to be out of stock by the time I submit this review, but if you can find one stocked for 240 or so, BUY IT I noticed that the price is only 220 now, which is even more ridiculous.Heres what youre getting for roughly the same price as a Core i58600K two more cores 10 more threads a socket that will be supported until 2020Its hard to emphasize how much better the 1800X is than the 8600K at multithreaded workloads, or rather multiple concurrent workloads.Of course, there is the matter of the motherboards upgrade path, which will support not only the 1800X, but Ryzen and Ryzen 2. If the rumors are to be believed, you can replace your 1800X with a 16core Ryzen 2 processor. The Core i58600Ks motherboard will only support up to 8 cores with the upcoming 9th Generation Core i series.ConsIf youre interested in only playing games at very high frame rates, the 1800X isnt a horrible choice even though it will get outperformed at times by the 8600K. But again, youre getting more cores and more threads for 10 LESS than the 8600K.The 1800X will use more power under full load although it can finish the same task as the 8600K in under half the time…, and it also cant be overclocked beyond 4.04.1GHz with sane voltage offsets. You dont have to overclock the memory beyond what Ryzen officially supports, but if you want to you will need to go out of your way to find specific memory kit that will have the highest chance of working with your motherboard.NoteSamsung BDie memory kits get mentioned a lot on internet forums regarding Ryzen memory overclocking because they are almost guaranteed to reach 3000MHz or above. The problem is that the Samsung BDie memory kits are 1550 more expensive than their non BDie counterparts take a look at the G.Skill Flare X PC425600 kit for example. You can usually identify a BDie kit by their latency timing, which should have three identical values like this14141434Any memory kit with values where the middle two values are higher than the first like this16181838are NOT BDie memory and has a lower chance of exceeding 2933MHz with Ryzen. That being said, it is very hard to justify spending 200 on a memory kit, so spend less money on a DDR43000 BDie kit or a nonBDie DDR426662800 kit. This rule applies with Ryzen, Ryzen APUs, and potentially Ryzen 2.

Overall this is a great product priced properly in the Intel dominated market. It has no competition in productivity, and builds an irrefutable argument for mixed use and even gaming. The biggest caveat in this launch however is the value proposition in the Ryzen lineup. When comparing the 1700X and 1800X to the 1700, there is currently no argument for the premium price. All 3 processors will overclock to about 150 MHz of each other and all cap out at an average of 4.0 GHz. I am slightly disappointed for spending an extra 80 on an identical processor, that runs slightly hotter, draws more power and is limited to the same clock speed. AMD need to acknowledge this flaw in the pricing, and offer a proper response. Otherwise, I will be more wary when buying the premium option in the future.

Before this processor, I had used Intel CPUs for the better part of 15 years. MicroCenter had some absolutely ridiculous deals on AMD processors, so I gave the 1700X a shot, and I wasnt disappointed. The single core speed isnt amazing, and the dual thread and quad thread performance doesnt quite match up with Intel, but under extreme workloads, it outshines just about anything out there at a fraction of the cost. With half decent cooling, it stays ridiculously cool as well. I havent had any problems with gaming or productivity applications.

CPU came with a few slightly bent pins on the grid array I used some tweezers and a very fine flathead screwdriver to reposition the pins into the correct alignment. Note I went to school for IT computer systems. Beyond that, this is a fantastic workstation CPU, and is very capable of multitasking. Your motherboard will very likely require you to flash the BIOS to get this CPU to run stably, which isnt that big of a deal if youre piecing this together and making your own build concerning tech knowledge. It runs well on Windows 7, despite the fact that Microsoft will hound you to the point of annoyance that this CPU isnt fully supported by this OS. Beyond said prompt from Microsoft, and with the appropriate BIOS update, this CPU runs like a champ. Where Intel CPUs excel at gaming, AMD excels at doing everything else… at the same time. Id easily give this CPU a 55 for what it is, and what it is is a beautiful little processor that excels at multitasking.

I recently made the jump back to AMD after years with Intel most of the Core years since 2007. This little CPU, matched with 3200MHz memory on an X370 board out performs the overclocked i75820K that Ive been using in a X99 board with quad channel memory. The i7 with all 6 cores at 3.9GHz comes back with a CPU bench around 14000. I ran this chip last night and it returned a score of more than 15000 at stock clock speeds. It does it using a fraction of the power, keeps lower temps, and was much cheaper. Happy I made the change.

While this is not necessarily a cheap alternative, the features that are key are beyond the price tag, and if you care to spend some time researching all the exciting technologies that AMD has introduced in this long awaited generation of processors then there is a lot to be excited.A processor that selfregulates performance based on the amount of cooling it is provided is one of my favorites. The fact that it comes unlocked if overclocking is your thing is another, I havent tried OCing before but might just now dare venture into these lands.Kudos to AMD for bringing technological advancements to the masses.

There is no reason not to give this CPU 5 eggs. Reviewers that dont are more often then not directing criticism at components other than the CPU. If your mobo doesnt support memory speeds above 2600Mhz, thats the mobo please feel free to give that a bad review. If you cant run windows 7 because MS pulled support dont down grade the CPU. For those of you that are strangely upset that you cant overclock it as much as you would like to, why do you care At stock speeds the performance is exceptional especially for the price. Who cares if it doesnt overclock well when stock performance is sky high Maybe AMD should ship this thing clocked at 100Mhz so the overclockers can really feel they get value when they push it to 3.6Ghz.

The PROs A surprising amount of computing power for the price. Power usage minimal compared against similar products. Futureproofing. Ryzen architecture should scale for another 35 years. Overclocks easily out of the box, although I have not stressed this processor personally. Eight cores. EIGHT. CORES.The neutrals Requires AM4 architecture and DDR4 RAM, which means you may or may not need to upgrade your motherboard and memory. The cons Doesnt come with any cooler or thermal paste bundled. Get your own. Nonstandard hardware installation for AM4 sockets versus other Intel or AMD architectures. This means you MAY need a special AM4 mounting bracket. Driver support not officially included for Windows versions earlier than 10.So far I have not encountered any problems caused by the CPU itself. Its been running smoothly since day 1. I can run Final Fantasy XIV and StarCraft 2 at the same time and still have CPU power to spare. In summary, a powerful generalist CPU for surprisingly decent cost, a good blend of price with quality that scales well for the foreseeable future, although youll have to deal with some minor issues if your OS is lagging behind or youre installing the processor yourself.

Using the pre included thermal paste that came with the cooler I proceeded to overclock the proc to a mild 3.8 ghz. It stays cool and quiet under load. All in 144.50 for 8 cores and 16 threads running at 3.8. Yes you can push the proc higher but for me the extra .2ghz wasnt worth the extra 40 You would spend on an upgraded cooler.
