I owned the RX100 mV and thought it was a fine camera. But I said I would upgrade when it had a longer zoom and a different means of popping out the viewfinder. My glasses kept pushing the viewfinder in and it was bothersome. So the VI came out and I thought about it since it answered both of my issues with the earlier model. But, I figured the V was working great and I had no real complaints so why rush And now the VII is here and I am very pleased. In addition to the things I wanted it now has super fast focusing with eye focus and animal eye, has the mic input which is another thing I wanted. Ive had it for just over al month now and its a definite keeper. Great job Sony

So far this is the best compact camera Ive ever used however in lowlight its still nowhere near a full frame camera. My biggest gripe is that for 1,200 it does not include a charger I had to buy that separately I also bought the stick on grip which makes the camera much easier to handle that should come with the camera or be built into it in my opinion so taking off one star for these minor inconveniences

After days of being skeptical I finally purchased it and when it came I fell in love Im someone who goes off of reviews and if there isnt that many I wont get it. There was one review that stood out and after watching her granddaughters YouTube video I decided to just go for it. Let me tell you this is the best purchase Ive mad in a while. Camera is amazing and Im so pleased with the price and the amount of other things that came with it. I wouldve been paying same price for the camera just alone anywhere else. I hope this review helps you purchase this cause its definitely worth it

When I dont feel like carrying my A7R III I grab my RX100 VII.This camera takes video footage and photos the fit it well with footage and photos taken with my A7R III but its a lot easier to carry around and less intimidating to others when Im out and about.Well it use to be less intimidating to others when Im out but now Ive added a small cage to it so I could also attach a light and an external mic to it.The high quality footage I get from this camera is awesome I also own the older RX100 V an and the RX100 VI. 24200mm is great for all day walk around camera Touch screen perfect for use when vlogging Most welcomed upgrade is the port for plugging in an external micOnly thing missing is that the older V was 1.8 and this one is 2.8 which should mean the older version V should be better in low light but so far without testing I havent really noticed it.

I received it as soon as it was available. It was as I expected it. I had a Canon G7X Mark2 and was used to the grip. I ordered the grip separately because I felt the camera was easy to drop without it. I also bought a Peak Design Clutch to use as a hand strap to give it a more secure feeling. I felt that Sony could have at least had included the grip for the amount I paid for it. I do like the eye autofocus and plan on using it as an all purpose travelvacation camera for both still photography and videos. I also feel that this product is overpriced, but I was willing to pay for it to get all the features. I would recommend this product if you dont mind spending the money for the features.

I have had several A7xxx and currently A7iii but even with its smaller size than competitors, it doesnt fit a pocket. The RX100 does and captures really great images Great autofocus, 24200 optical range with added electronic zoom rangeMy only improvement wish is a wider low end maybe 18mm and more battery life. But it is a Fantastic pocket fitting camera

I like this new camera for only one reason its Bluetooth. I ordered it right away the moment it was told that it has Bluetooth. Yes, now I can take family pictures that also include meWith my other RX100 I have to use the Vello Plus Remote control which is too inconvenient to carry around. Its AF is may be a little bit faster than my RX100 VI. But most of all its picture sharpness is what I really love Sony brand name. I sold all my Canon gears Canon 5D III and loose tons of money as well and switched to Sony AR7 III since last year and have no complain at all.

So far I love this camera. There is always a learning curve for me and a new camera. I pretty much had the basics mastered in just a few clicks of the shutter. I use the camera mostly for backpacking trips. The lightweight and compact size make it perfect for hiking. And the pics I get are very satisfying. Looking forward to the next trip to put this camera to use.

Ive been a professional photojournalist for 40 years, used all the topof theline models from both Nikon limited to film and Canon up to the 1D Mark IV.With few exceptions, such as needing a very long, 300mm or more, at f2.8, lens, this camera can shoot ANY assignment a photojournalist is handed and do it with an image quality equaling or surpassing a top of the line full size DSLR. It has a learning curve you must master, but so does every highend digital camera. After 40 years shooting, having a camera of such immense capability, stunning image quality and in size and weight equivalent to large bar of soap, cant be beat. If youre a veteran shooter, remember the size and quality of the Leica rangefinders. This camera is on par with the Leica and easily meets the requirements, and in many instance, surpasses the uses of a D5 or 1Dx. Think small, unobtrusive, amateurlooking to the common folk and able to produce a stunning, high quality digital file.If you , like me, are at the point where you where to point your camera, and need not sport a huge DSLR with a equally large zoom, buy this camera. You will achieve what you see by using this highly advanced digital camera.

Full featured 1 sensor camer that fits in your pocket. I wish the laws of physics allowed it to keep the fast speed of earlier versions AND the loger focal length of this version.

Ive had great results. But too expensive, OIS is less effective than other cameras, menus are not easy to understand, battery life poor. I bought this camera for one purpose and that is for concerts. Most concert venues prohibit camcorders and cameras with interchangeable lenses. I previous had a first generation RX100 and used it for concerts but it had limited telephoto range. This model has a much better range and 4K video. Just waiting for the vaccine to be invented so concerts can resume.

I was disappointed that the newest batch of Sony APSC cameras did not include BSI sensors. They really make a difference for my a7R2. The newest RX100 includes a 2.7 crop factor a9style sensor. BSI technology should provide a one stop and maybe a two stop advantage in light detection for a super dynamic range. Comparing the RX100m7 to an a6300 with the kit lens, the light gathering ability etendue of a RX100m7 pixel is about 0.8 stops less than an a6300 sensor pixel, but the BSI sensor of the RX100m7 should more than make up for that deficit. The RX100m7 is truly coat pocketsize, so it is my carryaround camera. Results are pretty good as long as you use the RAW format. JPEGs are overly compressed. I still use my a7R2 and GMaster glass for serious work, but I no longer have any reason to keep using my a6300. Performance and flexibility are a cut above that of my iPhone 11. In summary, I think Sony made excellent choices as they made the inevitable design compromises when they designed this product. This is not a professional grade camera, but its worth considering as an everyday camera for an enthusiast.

I normally use highend DSLR camera to take pictures. The problem is I need to carry the camera along with one or two lenses which are weighty. This camera is small to carry around and takes amazing pictures. It also has option of choosing the camera setting if one wants. It takes amazing pictures and also shoots 4K videos. Best to take family pictures such as sports. The only thing missing is Sony failed to include printed manual has it online.

My openbox camera was exactly as expected. I got a great deal on this camera, and it arrived exactly on time. This is a great camera with alot of functionality and it is easy to use out of the box, but to get full use of all the features I recommend watching some tutorials on YouTube.

My wife and I like to cruise travel by car motorcycle. Ive been shooting with Olympus, Ricoh, Canon and Nikon since the mid60s. For the past two years, Ive switched over to the Sony a6000, a7Riii, a7Riv a9ii. I love to shoot Radio Controlled aircraft. When I saw the specs on this palmsized wonder, I had to check it out. I truly expected to find some shortcomingscompromises. I havent yet. I keep this camera within arms reach at all times. Right now, its on the couch beside mejust in case the cats get cute Focusing is quick and accurate. Metering is spot on. Its solid build quality is everything that Ive come to expect from Sony. Its a point and shoot with a manual function. The popup eyepiece is a super feature. The 200mm equiv. zoom is handy. If I need more reach, my a9ii 200600mm is in my bag. The RX100 is an amazing camera. With the Kit, you should be able to blog to your hearts content. I am super happy with this addition to my arsenal. Princess, were ready for the next cruise Highly recommend Sony cameras, especially, the RX100series cameras.

This is an expensive pointandshoot. It was much anticipated. There will likey be an rx 100 viii next summer. Im sure the new iphone 11 pro can take similar quality photos. This camera is likely best for vloggers. The tilt screen works great for this and selfies. The video quality is great, very little shake. The sound is also good. You can record in slow motion and time lapse directly in the camera. These feature are fairly easy to use but you wont likely use them much. Stills had good resolution and the autofocus was on spot most of the time. Eye detect AF doesnt always stick to the eyes. There is also eye AF for video. It shoots a high amount of frames per second 90 fps. The focus on the subject is not as sharp as I expected at high frame rates. The optical zoom is 8x and gets you close enough for shooting sports action from the stands. The Sony app this camera connects to works great to send pictures and videos directly to the cellphone and television. This camera is a good fit for someone who wants a versatile camera on the go without having to carry a mirrorless, lenses or flash. I couldnt find a dedicated travel case for this camera. It is quite small and definitely does not belong in your pockets. If you want higher resolution pictures youll need a bigger sensor and camera So if youre fine with above average quality pictures and video from a pointandshoot, use this camera in Auto mode and it will work great. Sony has the best autofocus on the market hands down. I did not keep this camera, I found the a7riii was a better fit for me.

As a mother of 2 young children I wanted a professional quality camera That is easy to use, and could fit conveniently in my purse. The Sony RX100 Was a perfect choice to meet my needs. Its compact size makes it easily accessible and allows me capture unforgettable moments of my family. I no longer have to haggle with another bag specifically for my camera on the go. Its made travel and photography so much easier.

I really shopped around to decide what camera I wanted. My primary goals were great zoom, excellent image controls, small form factor, but lots of customization. This was by far the only choice to go with. Other cameras were much too large or lacked that zoom. The camera is spendy, but I love it.

RX100 VII is so fantastic to snapshot viewscenes beautifully everywhere. It is very easy to carry its lightweight with you plus good zoom at the farther distance. I have not had the camera but a few months I bumped the front of the camera and the cover around the lense dented causing the lense cover to stick and not close or open. The lense cover is thin and not strong enough to properly protect the camera. The metal is like a tin can and dents very easily the pain flakes off and also chips off very easily. For the high price of this camera is you are at all active the camera for me is falling apart too easily. I sent to have fixed under warranty and because of the dents and chipped paint sony would not warranty the camera they are charging me 360. to repair the lens cover. for the price I paid the camera should be bullet proof strong the camera is too fragile and apt to have problems and for over a thousand dollars the camera is falling apart after 3 months of use.

I have been using the camera for about two weeks. This camera is both easy to use and difficult. It can operate as a point and shoot. However if you want to make use of it many features, there is a steep learning curve. I like the view finder, especially on bright days. The only negative is that sometimes when I put the camera up to my face and tap the external screen, I change the focus point. There is probably a setting to turn off the touch screen focus, but I have to find it in the menu, which is not all that straight forward. There is an online manual, but the camera maybe obsolete by the time I get through the whole thing. The pictures look great. I already own the RX10 which has the same sensor size so the picture quality is about the same. I like being able to slide the camera into my pocket and carry it everywhere. I have yet to try out the video. I mostly shoot photos. I bought this camera because I wanted a great camera that I would not mind carrying around no matter what. I love my SLR but there are plenty of times it is not practical to carry it around. Most of the time mobile phone cameras just do not cut it for me. It is just to limiting and the camera wears down the phone battery really quickly. The camera is well built, Of course, given the highprice, it should be.

Best compact camera available today. This is a Photographers Camera. Pricey, but worth it. Extremely capable. Not for nonphotographers and snap shooters who should just use their phones. In the hands of an experienced photographer it is a joy. Easy to use in Auto Modes, but deserves to be handled by someone willing to learn the features and exercise them. See images shot in both RAW and JPEG, PS2020 for edits

After not owning anything other than a iPhone for shooting photos, I finally decided to purchase a good travel camera, Sonys RX100M7. The price was right on this one, since it was 200 less than anywhere else.I am really enjoying this thing although there is a lot to learn to really get the most out of it, and I continue to look at YouTube videos to help with that. The camera does not come with a printed manual, a problem since it requires web access to learn how to use it. You can download a document with web links to different features and usage, but thats not ideal when youre out traveling and have no access. So read and watch everything in preparation for using this thing. You can keep the Sony RX100M7 in full Auto mode if you want, although I recommend a less expensive camera if that is your end goal. This camera can do all sorts of neat things if you know the fine points of its features, and I recommend that you do. It takes nice steady videos, can be used for Vlogging although you would need an external microphone and a bracket to affix it to since the camera does not have a spot for an external mic. So thats a negative, but one of the few for a camera in this class.Other negatives include a very complex menu system of all the features and options, and the back video display screen only allows for very basic touchsensor use, none of which are related to menus. The touch screen is used mostly for setting a focus point when you are taking a photograph, so extremely limited use. Also, the menus builtin Help features are very basic.Another negative is the battery life. Plan on purchasing an additional battery or two and an external charger if you will be shooting a lot during the day. Also, the photos andor videos can get quite large depending on which settings you use, so have a fast, large SD or compatible memory card or two or three if you know youll be taking a lot of photosvideos during any day of use. Finally, heres what else youll probably need to be happy with your RX100M7 a screen protector for the rear video screen, a carry case of some sort to house the camera when not in use, along with its batteries, extra SD card, charge cable, etc. You might buy a pricey video gimbal if you do a ton of video work and want extreme steadiness, as well as a tripod to use for night photos, action, etc. Thats a start, anyway.Good luck with your new RX100M7 camera, its a good one if these conditions fit your profile

There are times you just dont want to carry your big camera in my case if Im gonna be in a theme park all day or other such location or when its important to be a little discrete. This little fella with its small size, 200 mm zoom and 2.8 lens is perfect You can put it in your pocket or hang it off your belt in a small case. Pop in a couple of extra batteries and youre set for the day. It makes great pictures and video to document your activities. It is pricey but as Ive found over the years you get what you pay for. This is my 2nd in the RX100 line and it is an excellent alternative to carrying your dslr gear.

So Ive only had this for a couple weeks, but Ive used it quite a bit. It took a minute to get used to how small it is, but the plastic grip add on is helpful. Ive been shooting Nikon for 30 years, but I found changing settings to be pretty intuitive.I like everything about it… except macro shooting. And I shoot a lot of macro. There is a scene mode for macro, but you cant control focus or exposure. So its basically useless. If you shoot 24mm no zooming, you can get fairly close but not full frame close. It has trouble focusing if the subject is moving at all. But I have other cameras I can use for macro work, and this camera is great at everything else. Image quality is fantastic

Five stars for the gentleman in the camera department. This fellow really knows his business. Ive been into photography for many decades and I know when someone really knows their stuff. I wanted to remember his name and of course Ive forgotten it. I believe it was four characters and it was a Hebrew name. He was terrific, and this camera gives me many expert functions in a very small form factor, which is what I was looking for. Hauling around lenses, etc, has become tiresome for me. Im old, but Im not naive.

If you, like me, dont want to always carry around a DSLR and all the lenses etc needed to get the best shots possible but still want a decent zoom and have it still take great pics and video then look no further than the RX100 Vii.While the RX100 Vii is small, when holding it in your hand you can feel the heft and quality, it just feels solid in the hand. The zoom works flawlessly and can take you from 24200mm with F2.84.5. The 2.8 is somewhat challenging in lower light conditions but the versatility given from the long focal range more than makes up for it in my opinion.Pics are FANTASTIC, it can take great time lapse or slow motion shots and the 4K video and color are unbelievable. With the flip up screen you can use to Vlog and create other content, all in a form factor that fits right in your pocket.

I bought the camera several weeks ago right before a two week trip to Europe Netherlands, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar. This was an upgrade to my previous travel camera, the RX100 M2. It was time for an upgrade. The autofocus capability is superb but the key feature for a travel camera is the 24200 mm F2.84.5 zoom lense. Along with the compact size, the zoom, the autofocus features, this is the perfect travel camera. Add to it the great video capabilities and you have everything you need.I carried my RX100M2 all over the world, shot thousands of pictures and videos and the RX100 VII is the perfect replacement. The only downside is the shorter battery life vs the M2, but on the plus side I can use the batteries and charger from the M2 with the VII, thanks Sony for not changing those.

Camera work really nicely. You can focus the camera really fast. It can focus automatically or you can touch the LCD screen to focus on any point on the screen. Its really nice to be able to carry this camera in your pocket and not get in the way. This camera produces amazing pictures and videos. Very easy to use either automatically or with different camera settings. I added a Lensmate system to add a polarizing filter or a ND filter. It works really well with this camera and is not affected by the zoom lens. This is a great travel camera

Ive been looking for a point shoot camera that I can take to venues that dont allow cameras with changeable lenses or for when I just feel like slipping it into my pocket. Not much available unless you want to sacrifice a lot of quality. I tried this camera in the IV version but found that the 2470 was too limiting although the low light performance was pretty good. The VI has it all and most important Im very pleased with the images even if raw files need to be converted for use in light room. Im generally a Fuji user. If theyd come out with something like this with a larger sensor Id be all over it

Yes, its expensive, and yes, its no longer an f1.8 at the wide end, but the added audioin means its now perfectly acceptable for using in tight situations or really any situation where getting the shot is the priority over it looking perfect. I bought this for a documentary involving travel to match with A7IIIs and I ended up using it as an A cam almost Having a 24200mm equivalent in that size is hard to beat, and its got all the same picture profiles as recent Sonys and the autofocus system you get from the brand new A7RIVA9II. I mean, its crazy how well it matches in good lightCONS Not great in low light. Looks more like a smart phone if you dont have adequate lighting. Its got no NDs This sucks. You can buy a kit to make it accept screwin filters, though, so its not actually a huge deal. Not constant aperture. Tough for video. Basically, this camera is for we just really need this shot even if its a little rawNo headphone jack. Gotta just look at the meters and pray.Needs a lot of light.Pros Has practically all the features of an A7III including Picture Profiles, slomo, autofocus actually slightly better, and it matches perfectly.Zoom range makes getting the shot basically guaranteedits tiny fit in your pocket and take it anywhere tiny. Finally has a 3.5mm audio jackThe little multifunction ring can be programmed for almost any adjustment. I had mine set to either aperture or exposure compensation.Great for both photo and videoGreat dynamic range and resolution

You will want to take this everywhere. It takes sharp pictures with brilliant color the Zeiss zoom now reaches 200mm. It has a touch screen and there is a popup viewfinder if you want to use it. Both focusing and writing to memory card is fast. This is the seventh iteration hence the VII. It has evolved into a superb camera. Some dislikes it came without a handgrip why Sony probably saved 2 cents on each camera and I looked at two 20 addons that werent satisfactory. Its tough without the grip. Small and slippery like a bar of soap. The little doors to access USB etc are cheap plastic junkvery easy to snap off. NO RAW . Sony menus are not intuitive. The onoff button is recessed but is easy to turn on when you put the camera in your pocket. Needs a safety or lock. If accidentally activated in your pocket the zoom tries to open.

This camera is my always carry camera, I have a 2 Sony Alpha cameras and a 6300 but, this fits in my pocket. It has a good zoom range, focuses rapidly and has a good view finder. My one criticism is the documentation. I think Sony really has to get its act together in providing good instruction manuals and good quick start guides. That being said, if you are a beginner or just want to make it really easy, set the camera on automatic and it will do an excellent job in providing you with pictures you will be proud of.

Ive only had it for a few weeks so I really havent had time to put it thru its paces. I previously owned the Mark III model, and from a use perspective, Sony hasnt changed much of anything. So Im quite comfortable with it. I am blown away by the quality of the images when zoomed out to 200mm. Its the zoom range that partially sold me on this camera. Auto focus is fast with a lot of flexibility in how to set it. Have only tried the slower continuous mode so far. Need to get some real action somewhere. I shoot just about all the time on continuous mode.I pretty much take it everywhere. Much preferred to using my Samsung phone. I still had to buy an addon grip for it just as I had for the Mark III. Still dont understand why Sony doesnt build that into the body. I am just getting into video and the capabilities of this camera may take me deeper into that field.

Havent had it for long, but it seems like a great point shoot. Small yet feels very well put together. It is very slick, so I suggest always using the wrist strap, or adding some sort of grip. As a lifelong Canon user, I am learning the controls, but they arent too difficult to figure out. Will be using this as a travel camera when I dont want to lug around my DSLR.

Its an excellent bundle including extra batteries. The only problem is that the external charger for the extra batteries has a car attachment and a European plug making it somewhat useless. THe camera case is ok, but a little larger than necessary for the camera,

I use the camera for journal video clips in 4K. The new tracking on the M7 that locks onto face and eye is a marvel. No more focus hunting in the takes as I move about. The camera always keeps me locked in. For vblogger or enthusiasts, or pros who need a B camera journal tool, this is the best and only one out there for now. The only drawback is that the camera still utilizes X batteries, which drain down quickly. Still with a couple of spare batteries, this is a great tiny workhorse. Thank you, Sony.

Great little camera, its small for my big hands to buying a third party grip, but the camera does come with camera strap eyelets so you can attach a camera strap not included super fast focus, love shooting at 20 FPS.The issue I had was the sometime magenta when shooting contrasty images like,if I focused on a dark area of the frame the white or very bright sky was magenta, I never got an answer after several attempts from customer support, so had to figure this out on my own, finally thought to check Sony for photo software to use, they had one free and that issue was solved. The 24200 lens is sweet too. I think a 2.84.5 so not a nighttime camera I dont think. You should consider extra batteries and maybe that external charger, I got one with two charging ports.

I bought the DSC RX100 VII to have a camera that is more functional and gives better image quality than a phone or waterproof camera and is easier to carry, especially for hikes and travel than my DSLR. It has met those needs wonderfully. The compact size makes it a joy to carry, especially with the Sony LCJRXK Jacket Case. With that case, it is like carrying the ancient Leica I used in my youth. The compact camera rides almost unnoticed at your side, but can be deployed for use faster than I can get out my phone, especially if you let the top of the case dangle from one of the snaps while shooting. The case also makes holding the camera far more secure as it is much easier to grip than the bare camera, plus the strap limits any drop. The camera is extremely capable and flexible. I doubt I will ever fully master all its functions. But the ones Ive needed so far have been there. It can be a bit frustrating finding needed items in the main menu, but the most important ones can be accessed through the Fn key. I carry the pdf manual on my phone. It doesnt have an index, but it does have a very extensive, clickable, table of contents so I havent had much trouble finding what I want. The image quality has been very good and it seems to handle focus and exposure well. I often have it in the mode where you can move the focus point with your finger on the screen. I have discovered a few times that somehow the focus point had migrated to a corner which got rather confusing until I figured it out. One thing I wish it had is an option for DNG raw files. Also, I have had some trouble showing the movies on my homebrew web site my Firefox on a Mac wont play the versions directly off the camera properly. Safari and Chrome manage rather better. I have no idea why. In summary, this camera provides a wonderful combination of quality and capability in a very small package.

The best part go VII is the fast focus. We have Version I and people would be standing there posing and you would be holding down the shutter for so long before it took the picture. This thing is amazing I can finally just give it to the wife and she can use the full auto settings all by herself. I had to alway run the old one on Manuel and set everything for her. The only thing a little annoying is you have to manually open the flash where the old one did it automatically. Love everything else about it. A little pricey but the old one served us very well for 6 years and still going.

I bough this very expensive camera for traveling. It broke at our second trip in February within warranty year. Best Buy said I had to go to a Sony repair center. When I went the camera didnt show the defective issue so they sent me away. This is my second trip with the camera after 1 year and 5 days and the camera is broken again. On the screen it says to restart the camera but it doesnt and the lens doesnt retract and camera does not work.. I really hope when I come back home that they will honor the warranty but considering the reaction at my visit I am worried that they could not.. We will see how serious they are.. The Sony DSCRX100VII is the third installment of this line for me having the II and IV before it. Movies and still have exceptional color. the menu system is based pretty much on its predecessors, for good or bad. I have become used to the menus so it is not a chore. There is plenty of customization available. The Function menu and the My Menu provide me with enough quickly available commands so it is pretty easy to shoot with. The 24200 equivalent lens is in the sweet spot for travel or walking around shooting. The eye AF is quite nice. There are a ton of features I wont have occasion to use. ISO sensitivity goes to 12,800 but I dont think I will shoot much past 400 as noise starts to creep in. In my still life tests from ISO 10012,800 shots taken at 800 had an acceptable level of noise but in the field the maximum may be closer to 640 or 400.

I was looking for something to take when I didnt want to carry my Nikon D750 which is a GREAT camera, BTW, but heavy with all the lenses. I bought the Sony as a result of reading reviews and word of mouth from others who had purchased it. Ive been taking it along with me for everyday outings just to get a feel for its size and functionality and I have been very impressed. DO NOT except the same quality as a fullsized DSLR but for the size of this camera, I think its excellent. Video is fun and easy. I love the shooting grip that I purchased to go with it for me, thats a must have and terrific that the camera can be controlled directly from the grip. And it can be used as a tripod as well. Makes it very simple to take pictures of you and your buddy spouse SO dog etc. simply by turning it around and flipping up the screen. Ive read a lot of negative reviews about Sonys menu system and let me say this. Yes, there are a LOT of menus. But if you stop for a minute and browse through them, they are arranged very logically and not at all hard to use. You can also customize the Function button on back which I did immediately as well as setup your own custom menu with the functions you us the most which I also did immediately. It also shoots in RAW a MUST for me and allows full control of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed, again a must have for me. And if I ever do want a day off, it actually takes very nice photos in automatic mode. All in all, I highly recommend this camera as a pocket sized camera. I cant call it a point and shoot as it does so much more. Note that it is pricey, but for me, its exactly what I wanted and well worth it.

I switched to a compact camera because it was getting increasingly difficult to carry my SLR camera and lens and enjoy traveling. The pictures are amazingly sharp and I used the 200mm zoom quite a bit. The Sony was able to focus and take a clear picture even though our tour bus was in motion. When we visited a National Park, we were extremely lucky and saw a tiger appear briefly from the bushes, I was the only one on my vehicle that captured the whole body of the tiger. The other people with smart phones and slower cameras got only half the body or tail before the tiger disappeared in the bushes. For me, it was worth the cost of the Sony to capture a once in a lifetime picture.

I was gifted the camera and will use it mainly for travel photography, as a bridge between my everpresent iPhone and my bulky full frame mirrorless and DSLR kits. The build quality, mechanics, electronics, and optics are all excellent. Hey, it is a SonyThis is an unbelievably versatile and diminutive camera which helps you create high quality stills and videos. Im very happy with it so far, especially after a couple minor modifications. These include adding the Sony grip AGR2 plus a small piece of Velcro to enhance grip, and a small tab on top of the shutter release to improve the halfpressforfocus function. These changes resolve my concerns about slipperiness and the flat ergonomics of the shutter release. The camera has the functionality and versatility of a much larger camera, which of course you are paying for. I would not recommend it if youre going to shoot stuck in the Auto mode. Youd be wasting your money by neglecting the cameras flexibility and creative options. If youre an Automode shooter, there are better options for you for a lot less money, or just stick with your smart phones camera.I rated it a fourstars mostly because of the high initial price. If it was a few hundred dollars less, it would surely be fivestars.By the way, some reviewers on other sites noted the lack of an internal ND filter and no external filter threads. You can buy an external filter kit for a few dollars, but it seems a bit clunky.

Maybe I purchased a bad copy with a softunsharp lens I was extremely disappointed with the overall sharpness and picture quality. The macro shots in particular were downright terrible for a camera at this price. My iphone doesnt zoom quite as far as the rx1007 but takes better photos and is also a phone. This Sony RX series I have been using from day 1 literally. I had every model up to the Sony RX100V and then stopped. I was always blown away with the image quality that came out of this tiny point and shoot and rivaled the files with my D800 at the time. This latest 7 series everyone talks about v blogging blah blah mic input. Yeah I get it the mic input is really welcomed and with that said now doesnt have a built in ND filter so kind of getting shorted now there. I think this camera shines as a still camera. When you just want to get out there and capture and lock in beauty that you can actually print and print large if you want. iPhones are great, but not if you want to print and sell to clients. This little guy allows me to lock in something without having to carry my D850s around, etc. and just a real pleasure to use. With that being said it is way too expensive even if this amazing. 1k I can see, but 1300 and really 1500 if getting batteries and after shipping and taxes is a lot to swallow for a little camera. The electronic viewfinder and lcd I find is way inaccurate when looking at images and gauging exposure and color and to me thats a BIG deal. Its very confusing to read images with the display I find and not sure why that is. I have it set to high quality too for the display and still really inaccurate with many colors such as reds at times.

Great balance in terms of mobility and imagevideo quality. A few things that make it stands out of its competition a viewfinder, a microphone jack, a BIG zoom for such a compact body, possibility to shoot vertical videos important for smartphone screen compatible content. And yes, if I have to be super picky aperture. But then this is a trade off of the big zoom and the speed of point and shoot. This camera is the absolute best camera in the point and shoot camera and easily puts the G7 X Mark III to shame on what that could have been. Granted both are premium but different price categories still the auto focus on this is well worth the price difference and the quality of the menus feels like a pro would easily enjoy with so much customization its nonstop of potential. When I invested in this for Our Micro Family vlog I thought noway would this be amazing but it really grabbed me and proved me wrong. The thing that I love most is that I have power of a 24 mm lens and all way out to a 200 mm zoom which is great. The 4k recording does not overheat after five minutes but instead around 30 minutes which is nice. Now onto the bad side, there is no wall charger in the box and that is a 49 dollar optional addon.YES that is correct me, Ryan the one who complains about everything can only complain about that. So call that a major victory for Sony.

This latest Sony RX 100 camera has excellent advanced features. The optical zoom is increased, the viewfinder opens and shuts with a single click or push to close and maybe the best of all the autofocus is amazing. Depending on the shot, the lens will focus on the dominant object in the middle of the frame, unless you tap the screen to set the area you want in focus. If people are in the frame, it will lock on the faces and when possible, will lock on their eyes for amazing shots. I like the compact size with advanced manual features for creative work. The only negatives I found were The video button is very small and hard to find if you are using the viewfinder to take a video and the camera is somewhat slippery to hold. I tried the leather screwon case but didnt like the long neck strap and the large screw on the bottom caused you to lay the camera on the lens or LCD screen. I added the Sony stickon grip to the front and that helps. Ive had several Sony cameras and this is the best by far.

I upgraded from version 2 to 7 and the added reach of the lens is very helpful. Unfortunately the camera does not come with a paper users manual. You would think that considering the price, SONY would provide a paper instruction manual for this relatively complicated instrument. Like version 2, the low light noise is significant. On the whole, however, this little gem is great for travel and street photography and Im happy to own it, CmonSONY…get a little generous with your users who are certainly generous with their purchase. This is the kind of pocket camera that professionals would choose. It has a stacked BSIBack Side Illuminated 1 type sensor which improves low light capabilities. 24200mm Zeiss lens. Can be used in full manual mode, just like the larger DSLRMirrorless cameras. It has eye detection lock for both humans and some animals. and excellent tracking. 20 framessec for action photography. 4k video capture without binning. Very fast focusing and an electronic viewfinder for more accurate framing in bright sunlight. The complete list would fill several pages, so this is just some highlights and in spite of the huge amount of features and capabilities, it can fit in a jeans pocket. A perfect travel camera, whereby its diminutive size does not compromise quality. On the negative side, and because of its many features, the menu system can be daunting, if all these features are needed to be used. But until they are mastered or even needed, the camera can just be set up as a point and shoot, providing superior results compared to some of its peers. The other big negative is price, but then again, all that technology doesnt come cheap. I have owned the Mark III version for several years, with my only complaint being the limited 2470mm zoom range. The Mk VII has taken care of that.

I just bought the Sony RX100 VII and after trying out all the features Im very impressed. First the good. This camera has literally everything I want in a point and shoot 20MP, 28mm wide angle, excellent autofocus, amazing picture quality, great optical zoom, external mic input, 4K video, an excellent Zeiss lens and a size that will easily fit in my pocket for travel. Now two negatives1 The price. For me its worth it, but 1200.00 is a lot to pay for a point and shoot.2 The supporting software. Im a Mac user and most of Sonys supporting software does not work at all on Mac Catalina 10.15. The Windows software is abysmal as well. Example the Sony PlayMemories, which is the main software for importing photos and videos, simply does not install on Catalina. Id love to transfer my images wirelessly to the Mac, but so far, no luck. Im not sure if the installation support instructions are just poorly written, but after several hours of struggle I gave up.Since I usually transfer my images via USB or SD card, this is not a huge deal for me. The rest of the camera works flawlessly. Hopefully they will provide Catalina support before the next OS comes outI really appreciate the Sonys quick autofocus after returning a brandnew Canon G7X MIII. The G7X MIII has a fatal problem with video autofocus which even a firmware update could not fix. There are many posts on YouTube about this. I was a real Canon fan up to this point, but not anymore. So bottom line, even with the price and software issues, this Sony RX100 VII is exactly what I was looking for. Highly recommend.

Lets get rid of the most obvious con with this camera ITS SOOO DAMNED EXPENSIVE So why did I buy it, because for its diminutive size its a video and photographic powerhouse. Sure it has compromises sensor size, max aperture, the list could go on if you want to get silly if you expect the magicians at Sony to quantum engineer a full frame megazoom camera into a pocket camera. The image quality is as good as a 1 sensor currently gets, the zoom range is all you need for at least 90 of situations, the AF is amazing. The built in micsaudio not bad, plug in a decent external and its a game changer, Ive used with a Rode stereo videomic pro, Zoom H1n and blink 500 wireless lavalier mics, all with great success. The 4k video is very good, and for me, even up to iso 16003200 acceptable for my life and holiday vlogging. I had been using a Panasonic FZ2000 with an Osmo Pocket and Insta360 One X but the Panny just added so much to my bag that it started to interfere with the spontaneity of life events, I aim to record these events well but not go for a Spielberg production, The sony is small and stealthy enough to do just that, but its so damned expensive…, but its the most compact photovideo powerhouse you can currently get, so yes, I bought it and the only regret is the kidney I had to sell to buy it As a final note, the build quality, as with all the RX100 series from the original version I still have to this Mark 7, is excellent. The image quality is very slightly better than my original Mark 1 but were talking pixel peeping here so unless you want the zoom range 4k video and mic input, look at the other RX100s or the ZV1 I considered that for the latter two features but the short zoom range didnt cut it for me. Battery life is chronic, but having owned numerous compact and mirrorless system cameras over the years this becomes a fact of life but the greedy little Sony and its equally tiny battery warrants the need for backup batteries almost at all times.

I own a Sony DSCRX100, the first of the line, and I do not see a substantial upgrade in the DSCRX100IV. The main difference is that the menu has sprouted at least 20 extra pages of nonessential features. As far as I can tell, it is the same lens, but I have to dig deeper to control what ought to be upfront settings like White Balance. As an oldschool shooter, I really prefer the simplicity of the older models. Here is what I like about the new model The LCD is jointed so that it can be held at an angle, the lens ring seems looser, The DISP menu is comprehensive about settings. On the other hand, it is bulkier and heavier. It has a builtin optical viewfinder, but I never did figure out how to set the diopter so that I could get a clear picture from it. Also, it is unnecessary. Both models take wonderful pictures It is amazing to have a pocketsized camera that will take excellent shots.

Truly amazing what Sony has done for the compact camera. Zero blackout during high speed shooting, huge Focus tracking is incredible…fast and accurate. I tracked my 4 year old running through water spray on slip and slide and his face was always in focus. This will be a great camera on the ski slopes, mountain biking and hiking.Camera feels solid but I would recommend the Sony rubber grip to prevent drops…not to big so it doesnt impact pocketability and worth the 1013 bucks.I upgraded from the RX100 III…yes, the 6 is expensive but everything is a lot faster, no blackout, longer focal length and the popup view finder are well worth the money. By far the best compact Ive every used.

This camera is designed for a very targeted group. You want a point and shoot, want high quality photos, but dont want to pay for all the gear for a DSLR.IMO, this has a slightly larger sensor than the iPhone 12 and as a result takes slightly better photos. Weve done some comparison shots with both and the difference is definitive, but not by a huge margin. The big advantage here is you can manage photos easier, do more with your photography, and upgrade your phone anytime. It is a little expensive, even on sale.

Faster startup, faster focusing, more functions, Bluetooth… this is the best point and shoot camera in the market. I have had all of them since the M1 and I plan to continue upgrading every time a new model comes out.

It looks great. I was looking for a travelpocket camera that still produces good quality images. My other camera is a full frame Nikon D750 and I have a bunch of lenses, etc. I did not want to be weighed down when on a walking tour. So far the Sony seems to work well, although I have yet to try all of its multitude of features. Both the pop up finder and the screen are bright and colors look natural. My first impression is that the photos are pretty good, but not up to the image quality of the full frame Nikon, not unexpected. I like the option to shoot in RAW, but I am not sure how much fancy editing I will do on the images from it. The eye focus following is fantastic, at least it is for the animal tracking.I wish I could give it 4.5 stars. My only gripes are the grip not being ideal. I found the camera a bit awkward to hold steady, perhaps because my hands are large. I bought an auxiliary grip that helps, and the camera still slides into my pocket IMHO, for the price, it should come with the grip as an option. Second, I wish there was full touch screen control. The camera seems like a winner, but Ill know more after my trip.

I have owned 2 previous RX100s and loved them both. This one tops them all. It is still slippery to hold so you need a grip but they are not expensive. I was shooting soccer game and saw some turkey buzzards overhead. I have tried shooting them in the past without a lot of luck. However with this camera it locked focus incredibly fast and I got great pictures.

Great point and shoot camera. Cant say that it matches up to a DSLR, but I dont carry the DSLR much. The higher end phones take arguably batter shots at normal focal length, but you of course cant zoom. I dont regret the purchase. Takes very fast snaps. See the attached photos. The close ups of the turtles are at max zoom, so that was punching the limits. I only put 4 stars because the price makes it a tough decision, I am happy with it though.

I have been using the DSC RX100 VA since it came out and while it is a great camera that I will continue to use in situations where the wider aperture is needed. The added features on the DSC RX100 VII are awesome I like the face and eye tracking on this model. It locks on so quick. The added focal length reach is nice to have also. The one step pop up viewer is easier and quicker to use than the two step one on the RX100 VA. The Video capabilities are unreal in both cameras. The added mike port is perfect. The nicest thing about all the RX100 cameras is that they fit in your pocket, so you can always have a pro level stillvideo camera with you disguised in a point and shoot format.I have been using 35mm format size cameras and lenses since the early 1970s and would never have dreamed that I would be so happy with a small point and shoot size camera. Isnt technology Great While these cameras have made me very happy and I love them, they also make me sad too Sad that the heavy camera bags with my full size bodies and lens in them dont get out and put to use as much as they used too

There are plenty of reviews for this product. Coming from an amateur with little to no photography experience, this camera fits my needs and is something I can grow with. Initially I wanted to get something for traveling. Easily fits into pockets and can last throughout the day. The M7 has been friendly from the start and only until you start to play with the setting do you realize what this unit is capable of. I really enjoy the ability to take highquality shots and have it transferred to my phone with the easy to use app. Makes for sharing with friends andor posting to social media a breeze. If budget is not an issue, then the M7 is top in its class. If price is a concern theres much better alternatives. Myself being an avid traveler looking for something more capable than a smartphone, I think the M7 is just the right product to last a while.

This is a great camera. One of the annoying things about Sony is the wait a year, add a mostly insignificant change to an existing camera, and up the price 200. I already owned the DSCRX100, but this camera has a better lens, albeit slower, and the slow motion video I wanted. It also fixed the finder that fell apart on some of the previous versions.

Ive only had the camera for a short time but it may be the easiest digital camera to figure out. Its menu is straightforward and easy to make customizations. Its small and I was worried about being able to hold it with arthritic hands. I added the Sony grip and havent had any issues. Ive owned just about every brand of camera made since 1974 and Ive used 4x5s, Minox minis and even a few instamatics back in the day. Im so happy to say that Ive finally found the one camera that I can have with me at all times that will produce outstanding images and give me the control needed when I want to be creative. How many times have you seen a perfect photo opportunity only to have your best system sitting at home in the case Buy this camera you will never regret it

This cyber shot is very easy to pack andor carry without adding bulk or much weight. I highly recommend also acquiring the shooting grip kit which not only makes it easier to grip and handle while traveling in a moving object like a boat, but also helps keep the pictures and video images steady. The high resolution of this camera, both in normal lighting and low light dusk conditions, is impressive as is the battery life after a full charge. This is now my goto camera device and preferred over my phone camera.

Great camera. Takes practice to master the various AF modes. Great walk around camera. You can find lots of help settings videos on online. The touch screen AF is great, you can even use the touch screen to move the AF point while using just the EVF. Highly recommend getting an extra battery charger. If shooting heavy , get a third battery. Also suggest the a screen protector for the LCD and the Sony grip that sticks on the front of camera. Or you can just stick some gaffers tape or velcro to give you a little bit of a rough surface to help prevent the camera from slipping in your hand while shooting. Again, suggest you watch videos about the camera to learn its many settings. Will take you a while to figure the custom settings out. Right now just using it for stills. No video yet. Camera does have a mic headphone inouts. Also, the clear view zoom JPEG only, is great. Only real negative is the price Feb 2020.

I am a happy owner of Sony RX100 IV. Decided to get the VII for the extra focal length. I shoot landscape so smaller aperture wasnt a concern for me. Unfortunately, when I tested the camera against my Sony RX100 IV the edges were soft compared to my mark IV up to focal length of 70 mm. Not horribly soft, but significant and immediately obvious when photos taken by both cameras using the same settings and scene were compared in lightroom. Hopefully just a one off, disappointed though and decided to return rather than exchange.

I am just beginning to learn how to use this. I do feel like there is a lot to learn before I get really good pictures with this. I had a Panasonic LUMIX compact zoom years ago when they first started making them 2006 or so. I feel like I was able to get good pictures on auto without knowing what I am doing. This one I feel like I am going to have to take some classes to get good pictures. It could just be that my subjects have changed from flowers and dogs that would stay on command to a busy toddler, but I am having a hard time figuring out how to get good not blurry pictures. I had eventually planned on learning more about photography so had wanted to get something with a decent zoom that I could use now on auto and that would have settings I could learn how to use later. I dont want to take too many stars off since it is probably still a really good camera if you know how to use it. I dont know if I would recommend it, but an experienced photographer probably shouldnt be looking for my recommendation.

This camera is beautifully made. But there are some challenges. I spent an entire afternoon figuring out the menu options and still only got half way through them. There are 38 folders each with up to 5 options and these options themselves have a number of suboptions. Good news is you get a huge amount of control, bad news is that you have to work your way through them and try and learn where they all are. For instance Color temperature choice is in the 11th subsection of the first of the 6 major menus.STILLS The first shoot I did at a live show with the Waterboys the stills were stunning. That 200mm end of the lens is remarkable.MOVIE The camera stops every 5 minutes. For the kind of work I do thats not ideal. I have yet to see how the footage intercuts with 4K from my other cameras.CONCLUSION Im not a supertechnical person and its going to take me some time to master this baby, but the initial signs are that, for a camera that fits in your pocket, it will deliver excellent results.

Expensive, but with an excellent lens and a lot of features packed into a possibly slightlytoosmall package. The size of the camera makes it difficult to hold although the stick on grip which has to be purchased separately, makes this manageable. PBtech werent the cheapest retailer in NZ, another company had the same product for a cheaper price, but PBtech had a much better reputation as a reliable dealer so the decision to purchase there, rather than somewhere else, was an easy one to take. The mailorder service provided by PBtech was efficient and quick.

I am totally amazed at this camera. The picture quality is excellent as is the quick and accurate focusing. The low light performance is excellent too. I was skeptical to buy this camera and considered the Sony RX100 VA as it has a faster lens but I wanted the longer zoom and touch focus. The V7 has performed wonderfully in all lighting conditions. The lens is still fast enough for me as I got great night shots, focused, clear, sharp. I did a few selfies and the photo was sharp as could be with excellent color. The features rival the Sony DSLR. Best Buy did price match so I saved a considerable amount of money which was one reason I bought the camera as I did not want to spend 1200 Dollars on a camera. After using this camera I can tell you it is worth the price. Best camera out there. Since I saved so much money on the camera I bought an extended warranty, fitted case and extra batteries. Great accessories if you buy the camera. I know that Best Buy will fix or replace the camera if anything goes wrong for 3 years. Extra batteries are a necessity. The case protects the camera. There are two different styles of cases but I am not sure if Best Buy carries both. You can get it at a well known photo retailer in New York City. However, Best Buy carries a very popular fitted case and excellent Sony case.I took photos in total darkness with the flash and the the photo quality was excellent. The camera focused accurate with correct exposure. Most camera would have a difficult time focusing in total darkness without a light assist. Not this camera. Read all about the features of this camera and you will see it is in a class of its own. I highly recommended this camera. You will not regret buying it.

Ive had three other RX100s….the 3, the 5 and now the 7.The 7 is by far the best pocket camera ever made so far.More reach than the 3 and 5 and the focus system on the 7 is better than any other camera except the A9 which it is almost equal to.I wanted a better camera than my Samsung note 9 has…and I did not want to buy another phone….especially in 2020. So I decided to sell the Sony RX 100 V and got the 7. Great choice on my part. This camera is just plain awesome. If you are looking at cheaper prices on this camera, be advised that certain retailers are selling import versions which Sony will not honor the warranty. They sell a warranty that costs anywhere from 100 to 300 bucks. So you are not really saving any money and their warranty may not be available if they decide to stop honoring it. Best Buy had the best price for this camera which they only sell authorized models in the USA.

The RX100 cameras are always excellent cameras. I have owned quite a few of them. This one is an improvement. Autofocus is fast. The lens seems to be very sharp, and I feel that the Sony colors are getting better and better. If you read books on how to use the camera, you would not believe all of the advanced features it has.The small optional grip that can be attached to the camera provides a better feel giving you a better hold.I compared the same photos I took with a micro four thirds and APSC camera, and I really dont see much of a difference in image quality especially sharpness. Its a great very pocketable travel camera. Whats good also is that its deceiving. People that are not knowledgeable would not realize how high end it is.
