I used the camcorder for the first time today. It had a beautiful image. It is easy to use after you spend time learning all you can about the menu and special button. Mimi Garrard

I love my DVX200. The number of internal codecs, 43type sensor, the body design in general size, handle, side grip, servo zoom, individual FIZ controls, layout of buttons and instrumentatio, IO options, choice of LCD or EVF, scene file customization, underovercrank capabilities, DCI 4K 24.00 fps, among other things, make the DVX200 a highly versatile camera. As of this writing May 2016 I have the latest firmware v1.65 installed. The new color matrix, smoother highlight rolloff in VLOGL, negative gainlower ISO, addition of more userassignable buttons and other tweaks, has greatly increased the usability, capability and image quality of the camera. The fact that Panasonic continues to support their products long after theyve hit the street is a huge factor in making the decision to purchase the DVX200 in the first place. I find the DVX200 an absolute joy to use. Though I hadnt used or owned a camcorder in years, once I held the camera it was like shaking hands with an old friend. Also, just looking at it on a heavy tripod with a bunch of tech sticking out of it, the camera looks like it means business. Professionally, Ive owned it less than a month and the camera has already paid for itself. Thats the point of owning a camcorder show up, take it out of the bag, put it on a tripod, shoot, edit, get paid. Move on to the next project. Having used everything from Amira to iPhone, using a camcorder that works perfectly fine naked as a runandshoot videography tool, and perfectly fine as a compact cinema camera with a few external additions, is a refreshing arrangement that I realized I missed very much from my earlier DVXHVX days. As a professional videographer, cinematographer and photographer, the Panasonic AJDVX200 is the best camcorder Ive ever used. Im happy I bought one.

After much research this was my choice. I am happy with it so far.The picture looks gorgeous and lets be honest, thats what counts with a camera and i created my own LUT for use with the Vlog Mode and it really looks amazing.THE LCD TURNING OFF IS NOT A DESIGN FLAW IT IS A FEATURE THAT WORKS so dont be alarmed and return it because you think its shorting out. it turns off when your eye is up to the OLED view finder to save battery. i like it. low light capabilities are ok, totally usable, but if you just light your scene well enough it will give you outstanding results. especially wit vlog LShoot 4k all the time why because it looks better to downconvert from UHD to FHD than to shoot in FHD from the start…plus stabilizing in post works best if you have some extra res so that your final product is still full after stabilizing and cropping.which brings me to my next thing… the stabilizers are great in this camera well done. also having a servo zoom is a big plus.would have loved it if if were a constant aperture zoom but then it would have been a 6000.00 camera.i am buying an external recorder to take advantage of the 10 bit 422 output. probs the video devices pix e 7the Jello effect is present, especially in 4k, but its not often that a shot requires such fast panning or horizontal motion that its not really an issue. Was thinking about buying the BM usra mini, but my fullframe lenses would have been marginally useful due to the crop factor. Also if you read reviews for their other cameras A LOT of users are unhappy with the company wanted their money back but to no avail as BM kept promising better firmware that made the camera work as advertised, meanwhile professional videographers are stuck with a cam that was faulty.so this was my choice and so far its really nice.have not tried the Infra red stuff yet but ill get around to it. Got the orca 21 bag. couldnt be happier with the combo.

I had posted a review of my 90 minutes of experience in the store with this camera and I was impressed. I decided to give it a go and finally bought it after a lot of thought and consideration. I have to admit this camera has its own flaws. But hey, no camera is perfect. Youre getting more than your moneys worth with this camera. CONS Its a bit heavy low light performance could be better The menu, settings, and multiple options could take you to a lot of time to get used to it. PROS Image quality is outstanding Cinema 4K meets DCI specifications all up to 2.391 UHD 60fps Variable frame rates OIS Well built To anyone who feels this camera is incomplete, please download Barry Greens ebook its free. It is a complete life saver, and practice because this camera will take a lot of practice.

I have only had the DVX200 for a few weeks, but Im learning it. This is my first camcorder, so a lot of new things to learn. Im going to write this review for new people not familiar with a Pro camcorder on this level. My background is mirrorless and DSLR cameras for video. Let me say this about this camera upfront. Its a very nice and well built camera, With tons of options to learn and use. It does have its Cons, which Ill get to later. What I like The Lens is superb Its not as fast as one would like, but sharp, sharp I have always used all the cameras I have ever owned in full manual mode, except when AutoISO was available. I love having the large circumference of the lens, and using the 3 different Lens rings for exposure and framing composure. The focus ring is exceptionally smooth. It has many buttons to access a lot of functions with out having to go to a menu all the time, many of which can be customized. Customizing these buttons will take some time. Its not hard to do, its just learning what all the options mean and how they interact with all the different shooting modes. The image quality for me is very, very good. Im happy with it. Could it be better in low light, what camera couldnt But for me I dont shoot very many scenes in low light. But it still can hold its own, acceptance of low light quality is pretty subjective, I think. As far as looks and a functional layout go, Panasonic hit a home run here. with just a few things that I would like to have seen. Like, I wish the EVF was a bit bigger and had firm ratcheting positions. It would be nice to have a folding sunshade for the LCD. Its pretty hard to see in the sun. There are alternative sun shades. This camera has excellent post support from Panasonic, Many FW Upgrades, and very good forums, There is also a very good Free Ebook from Panasonic, and a Great youtube channel by Barry Green. Its so good, it is what inspired me to step up to a camcorder of this caliber.

I really liked the fact that this camcorder has 43 sensor…can get really good shallow DOF shots….I really dont like when f stops move from 2.8 to 4.5 when zoom in…I wish this has constant fstops all the way….

very frustrated with panasonic. have ordered 2 different agdvx 200s and they appear to have a design flaw. Very simply when you take the camera off tripod and move it around the viewfinder shorts out. Not good. Was all set to buy 2 of them, My camera guy liked a good deal of it, said the scene files were a learning curve. But I need to have confidence in the camera. May look toward the Sony FS 5. I am so disappointed in Panasonic. Hard to rate the other parts of it when a key component has malfunctioned twice.

This is a great camera for documentary filmmaking focus assist is excellent, image quality is superb, and the ability to set up the user setting to switch between the LCD or EVF adds efficiency and speed.

I cant say enough good things about this camera. The image quality blows me away every shoot, and isnt that the most important thing I see people complaining about strange things with this camera, such as I hate the red color. Really Ive had mine for about 6 months, and Im still saying wow every time I shoot with it. The LCD is so good, I am using my SmallHD AC7 monitor less frequently, which saves setup time and weight when holding the camera off tripod. I loved my AF100, and this camera provides a similar experience while adding many of the things that the AF100 was missing. Dont fear the fixed lens, it is very convenient while still delivering excellent control of depth of field. If you are looking for a more streamlined experience that still delivers on creativity, it might be the camera for you. And Panasonic put this camera at a price point that is an excellent deal for everything it delivers.

No information given in manual for importing or saving scene files to card.Has a weird magenta shading on imageWhen using scene file 1, the default setting, with corrected white balance, the camera comes up with a yellowish tinge on the image. No instructions given on how to fix this.Camera has NO exposure meterUnless you are Experienced professional with access to color charts forget it.. Not recommended

I had Hands On at NAB. The JVC LS300 is the CamCorder I expected to see in the Panasonic Booth as an upgrade to the AF100. I was not happy with the lack of MFT lens mount nor their choice of an intergrated lens. The apparent top usable ISO seems no better than a GH4 with a similar kit lens. I did not like the RED side cover.

hello consider this Panasonic DVX 200 an excellent machine even I have not tested but be fourthirds I think it will work very well say this assuming that panasonic in the last years has shown that you can trust your equipment is While reliable and quite sure you never deceives too good price greetings

I had to film a documentarie in Hawa and the DVX200 was imposed to me. The experience was not happy. Its not a good camera overall. Poor compression in camera 420. A menu that is counter intuitive. The LCD is not good in sun condition and the eye viewfinder in not better. There is only 12 stop of latitude and I believe it is less in truth. If the macro fonction is not engaged, the minimum distance for your focus is like 4 feet. Well, I had 6 days of shooting with it, in many different condition and it fail all the time. If you can avoid working with this camera, well…avoid

I just bought my DVX200 4k and I shot on 2 productions Dance and Theatre and for the same production. My settings were generic..Scene 1 3200 preset. Why is the camera putting out a Green Tint I have used my HVX200 on these same productions for the same production and never had this issue. Has anyone experienced this problem or is my camera a lemon Thanks in advance for any advice….Jimmy

Im an old Sony guy then graduated to HD with a Nikon DSLR. Once I got my hands on a demo of the DVX200, I was totally blown away. It does EVERYTHING that I need. Im a corporate, talking heads, video kind of guy as well as event video. This camera has held its own on every occasion. The VLog is AMAZING and when edited with Film Convert, you cant go wrong. I did a corporate video, shot in VLog and gave them an option of the Video look and a nice, classy Film look. Of course the film look was the winner. Thank you Panasonic. Looking forward to the next version. Until then, Ill be picking up a 2nd one of these BAD BOYS. I call my camera BIGRED

We bought the Panasonic DVX200 to be part of an update for the 5 Sony EX1s,EX1Rs and EX3 we have. Most of our work is for Trade Shows where the requirement is for great low light performance and high quality images. The appearance of the unit is striking with the red accents and the 4K branding adding to the professional looking shape. In a well lit situation the 4K picture is very good. The viewfinder is exceptional. The ability to use SDXC cards was required for us as we have no intention of using proprietary expensive media. The extreme contrast range even in normal settings is very pleasing. The shape and weight is more conducive to handheld than the Sony EX camerasWe did find however that there were a few things we believe can be improved. The menus are tedious and it is difficult to find and change settings. The wideangle range is not wide enough for a portion of the work we do and the lowlight capability is perhaps the biggest drawback. To be useful in run and gun trade show work this needs to be improved. Footage taken with one of our EX1rs at 12db gain and F4 provided a much better image than the DVX200 with ISO set at high sensitivity 1000 and a required gain of 18db wide open. The DVX200 had more grain and less detail resolution. We were recording at the highest 150mb 4K 60P setting and perhaps because of the 60P this has an impact on low light sensitivity. When we shot at 30P in an unrelated test, just visually it seemed to perform better. We also tested the camera in a duplicate green screen setup with one of our Sony EX cameras and again it required high sensitivity and gain while the Sony shot at 0db with the aperture at F4f4.8Because of all the features and settings this camera has, Im certain we havent tweaked it to its best potential. However at this point, because its new, there isnt a lot of guidance on how to do that and we are open to suggestions on how to maximize quality in low light action situations.

This is by far, the most advanced fixed lens camcorder in the market as of today. With such a huge menu and amazing image quality, this is a professionals dream tool. Ive had this for about 2 months now and Im still learning more and more about this camera. The more I learn, the better I get while operating it. The best part which suits my needs is that this camera meets with the DCI specifications. I can choose from various aspect ratios up to 2.391. The Vlog L is what makes this even more amazing because you can play around in post to get the best possible image out of your movievideo. The only downside for me is that I find it a bit heavy for handheld use. Other than that, its perfect. Built quality is excellent, and at 4200.00, every penny is worth it

This camera has many great features. Not so good in low light, because its a 43 sensor. I just have to figure out how to cover that ugly red plastic It fits in the Pelican case I got for my HVX200.

About to go overseas w this camera and 1manband a corporate video. More opinions after that. Not good in low light but any noise introduction is filmic looking. Infrared in lowlight is a bonus and not offered on many cams. It has that green look but definitely works well. Would be fairly fantastic for documentarywildlife work. Bokeh is real and easily achieved very cool. This is unlike any camcorder in terms of being able to achieve that. And the bonus is internal stabilization. You get hybrid stabilization in HD and electronic stabilization in 4K. They both work well. And the new firmware has offered a fast scan function. This allows you to get rid of the JellO effect when shooting faster moving situations, like aerials. We purchased a couple of GH4s in the past year and a half. We have found that Panasonic in terms of camera manufacturers, just give you more overall in the camera. Not afraid of cannibalization of other product lines.
Deacs –
We have received five camera several weeks before. This camera provides exceptional quality for shooting online lecture and interviews. We did not touch VLog yet, but will use it when we need to do some short promotional film. The important thing for us is that the camera is easy to use.

This camera has a very steep learning curve. Out of the box, it might bite you if you rely on the factory scene files. Expect a yellowish cast on your footage, especially skin tones if you dont pay strict attention to exposure. You will not find rave reviews of this camera because most reviewers dont have the time to delive into all its features and set them up properly. There are more color controls on this camera than any other in its class and they must be set up properly. Panasonic released scene files that looked terrible. There has also been a software update to its operating system which improves its out of the box capabilities. Early releases of this camera should have been kept in Beta. I have experienced a grinding when rotating the focus wheel. Others have experienced it too.

Picture detail is outstanding… As good or better than the GH4. Its a complicated beast with tons of adjustments… Im just starting to get use to it, but it has already served me well on a full day shoot in challenging lighting. Only gripe is that the color needs to be adjusted a bit WB preset. Be sure to set zoom to access the faster speeds default is set to slow.

While some of the functional design might be slightly less than perfect, the images are great. Overall, once we mastered the operation of the unit, we have been quite pleased with the results. We came up thru the Panasonic ranks from a DVX100B, HVX200, to an AC160, and now the DVX200. Going from the 100 to the 160 was a breeze, but moving to the 200 has been a little slower.Again, the images have been very nice sharp, deep, rich color, incredible Bokeh, and plenty of headroom for editing. And the ability to output 422 at 10 bits is awesome. Footage recorded this way to our Atomos Ninja unit was stunning. Cinema quality all the way.The unit feels plastic and lightweight, so a good padded case should be had. Some of the connectors are awkwardly placed, but can be found. Again, the quality of footage at this price makes for a high value purchase. In the theater or living room, no one asks what your camera looked like. The bold red case panel reminds me of that old JVC videocam from the 1980sControls the menu system was not as well thoughtout as wed like. It can take a long time to find the setting you are looking for… but with time, the ones you need will be known.Slideout LCD monitor A little unconventional for Pany, but still a nice sharp screen. We output to a cameratopmounted Ikan monitor, and it looks stunning.USB function direct copy to a USB drive is a nice extra. It would have been a spaceaged home run to be able to record directly to that drive, but, well… maybe in the future. And why the USB does not also provide voltage to power an accessory is beyond me this was low hanging fruit they missed. And, no, you cant just buy batteries with this function, because the camera buries the battery in an enclosed section of the body out of reach.Overall, a great purchase, and well worth the cost, for our first foray into 4K. We probably would not buy a second one… but we like the one we have.
The Harv –
As good as the HCX1000 is, it does suffer from a small sensor. Sonys wonderful PWXZ100 has the same problem. Both struggle in low light situations. This camcorder should fix that. Personally I think the red color was to distinguish it from the HCX1000. Also, instead of getting a GH4 and the interface unit and lenses just to do video work, this seems a simpler option.
Nirav –
All I can say is that, this is the best run and gun camera for multiple purposes. I shot an entire feature film titled PRIMARY HITMAN with this camera in 4K DCI. The image quality is stunning. Its very well built. The menu is simple and clear. The functions are very useable too. The integrated lens has a powerful motor. You can get wide shots, zoom shots, and touch a button for macro shots. This camera did everything. If there is a drawback, Ill say it can feel heavy on shoulders and arms if shooting handheld for a long period of time. But thats just a small excuse. Eventually, you will get used to it. Im planning on shooting my second feature film with this beast.
Russell –
I have owned a pair of DVX200s for a few months now. The learning curve is not insignificant due to the rich feature set. And there are a few quirks that you need to work through in understand the matrix of options. Depending on the format you are shooting various options may or may not be available and the list is just too long to describe here. This is not a negative, just a caution, you will need some practice with this camera before you are in front of a client. I am editing a multicam interview right now and had to stop and write an update to my earlier review. I am absolutely blown away by the color accuracy and flesh tones delivered on a properly light, properly color balanced, properly exposed shoot. Forget color grading, what I am looking at is as good as I have ever seen. Some background for this comment. Multicam UHD editing was beyond the capacity of my old video card. It just lock up Premier Pro and the computer it was running on. I installed a new GTX 1070 card to deal with the problem. And at the advice of a friend, replaced my multi monitor array with a single 43 10 bit Sony 4K monitor. 1920×1080 x 4 3840×2160 which is in fact the typical 4K TV. The difference is that there are no borders between the screens. And, and this is not insignificant, 10 bit 4K monitors are about a close to a color perfect studio monitor as you are going to get on a budget. I bought a floor model from last year that I got for around 500. It is hard looking at the flesh tones while I edit this shoot without weeping with joy. Its that good and I shot internal 8bit 420 UHD.

Ive wanted this camcorder for a really long time, and now I finally have it There is a bit of a learning curve, as this is probably the most professional camcorder I have ever owned. And it is a lot heavier than other camcorders Ive owned in the past, although this can help to get a steadier shot. It is really great in low light I did notice that it doesnt have the dynamic range I was expecting, but again, this is probably an adjustment I can make, I just have to play around with it a little bit more.

I have shot from a DVX100a to Canon 5DM2, RedOne Mx to Sony A7s and A7s3, now back to Panasonic DVX200 with fixed Zoom. Im a run and gun PromoDocumentary shooter. No set time and it covers what i need in a 4k cam. I sold my A7s3 because I felt I didnt need it with still having my A7s1. I am very happy with cam. very solid build and performance.

As I use this beauty more and more, I realize what I was missing shooting in HD on the trusted, very reliable HMC150. Switching to 4K on the 200 was a revelation. The clarity The color depth The screen grabs And I have old eyes One of the best purchases I have ever made in terms of camcorders since getting seriously into video over 20 years ago. Now, I wonder, what will 16K look like forget 8K
diego –
I love the DVX200. Its a versatile camera, with plenty of functions and a low price point. I would buy it again if I should. The only problem I noticed is the visual echo or ghosting that may be seen in some low light footage. This issue is well documented on the web, but still not addressed by Panasonic firmware 1.72. Its not the end of the world and many clients probably will never notice it.
Kenneth –
This is one of the best looking cameras Ive ever used, but unless you read the manual and really understand video, you may get lost. Those who simply want to grab the camera out of the box and begin shooting will have trouble. Panasonic has built in a lot of professional engineering features that make the 4K picture one of the best on the market. This is not a lowend point and shoot camera it is intended for professionals. But when set up properly, you and your clients will be thrilled with the results. And remember, if you are producing documentaries the story is still king. Most of your viewers dont count pixels … the will be captured by your story.
Jacy –
I was let to believe and strait up told by several people staff included that this camera could output 10bit 60p UHD. It DOES NOT. now I own it and cant shoot professional quality 60p even with an external recorder. bummed. It caps out at 29.97p UHD 10bit. Log or no log makes no diff. DarnOtherwise its pretty darn good Kinda poor lowlight need neat video for NR parfocal doesnt work right. Focus transition is great Sharp video if you can get it all in focus shallow depth of fiels is still kinda weak. Overall good. But sad.
PHILIP –
Pros easy operation tons of remappable user buttons nice imaging solidbutlight build quality takes SD cardsCons color is a little wonky under certain lights, especially if youre used to Canon color science variable aperture lens outputs limited to SDI or HDMI, not both

We purchased the DVX200 for our production company primarily as a lightweight runNgun camera and for live productions. We have several other Panasonic ENG cameras, including HPX500s and HPX170s. The one live event weve done, mixing this camera with a couple of HPX500s, it really matched up well. We have not experienced any of the problems described by some of the other reviewers with this system. Obviously the lens is not a piece of glass, but the images weve been recording are really outstanding. The 4K capability is not something well be using a lot of right now, simply for speed in post. But having 4K capability gives this camera a longer usable life. For projects where we have the time and budget, I still prefer using our Canon Cinema EOS system and prime lenses. But for any gottogetitrightnow kind of shooting, this is a really nice solution.

Ive used Panasonic camcorders for the past 25 years. This is a solid professional camera with a lot of different options. If you dont like the way it looks, you can change it. There are many options to customize the unit the way you want or you can select the standard default settings. For best results youll have to spend time to get comfortable with it. The only reason I didnt give it a 5 star is because it might struggle in extreme lowlight situations…and even then, it has a high sensitivity mode that gives more light. There is a lot to like about this camera.
Harold –
Let me begin with the good of the camera This camera is very beautiful inside out. It has what you need to grab and shoot. I mostly use fully automated function instead of manual. For only few works I have used it manually. I do have problems with Cine Files. These are really not that good and the extra ones about 18 more dont help became you have load and upload which if you are using automation does not please you at all. This is a keeper for me because it is strong camera and has all the plugs and buttons that I need in a camera like this. I do appreciate the extra large battery and charger they sent me for free that added to the value. This gives me a good full day shooting. I used this with Atomos Ninja Flame for 422 output and external lossless recording, to be hones with you, in the post it did compete with larger file size and 422 of Atomos. Atomos NInja Flame may be really good product but for me, it shuts down sometimes. So, not much luck with that. It is not good for low light but reasonable. Indoors using for green screen with Dracast lights, I have found this to be good enough for keying on Adobe Premier CC and XSplit. I am so much fan of GH4 that when I saw this, I thought let me buy this for a companion and I dont regret. Yes, overall, it is a good product and a keeper for me.

I am an inhouse videographer in a PR department and I typically work with your run and gun cameras as it take a lot of the leg work out from having to bring A LOT of equipment and lenses. As my first jump into 40K this was a very easy camera to pick up and play with. In short, I love it. The picture is great and just does so much before editing that I rarely have to do anything in post to fix up the picture. Great color, AMAZING depth of field shots. A really good buy.

tried to post this earlier but it didnt make it in there appears to be a design flaw with the flip out monitor it keeps going in and out. We are now sending back our 2nd camera to bh. My cameraman was running it thru , and everytime he removed it from a tripod it happened. He didnt feel it was a great run and gun Very disappointed in Panasonic , its hard to believe that we got the only 2 cameras with this problem

I bought this camera back in March of 2017 and kept having mixed feelings about it so I waited to write my review. After practicing and working with the scene files, I finally got a picture that I really like. I had the Panasonic HMC150 for 5 years and it was my work horse camera. Ive also been using a Canon 60D for video and that DSLR look made it hard to go back to more of a video look. But after going through Barry Greens guide and trying some of his Scene Profile settings, Im really digging the look thats coming out of the camera now. The 4K is so sharp and Ive been using the Variable Frame Rate at around 90 fps because the quality really lessens at 120 fps which is pretty unfortunate. Ive been thinking of pairing this with a GH5 and I think they will go well together. So far, it seems wellbuilt and sturdy, well see if it can take a beating over the years like my HMC150 did. One of the big things Im also getting use to is the weight I do a lot of run and gun and even just lugging it around with a tripod is a workout especially compared to the 60D. When you turn on the macro, you definitely get way better rack focuses. I know this is a video camera and not made for a film look out of the box, but with the vlog and a lot of practice, this is a really great camera. I havent used vlog much because my clients want something they can have right out of the bag so finding good scene profiles was a must. The image stabilization is pretty good, but your only get the best when youre shooting in FHD. I had to learn to love it at first and learn how to make the picture look better and it took me a little while, I was use to footage right out of the box with the 60D, but now its much better and I think well have some great years together.

Ive grow to love Panasonic, first with the DVX100, then HMC150, GH4 and now the DVX200. I shoot a lot of theatre and hand held stuff and this camera is definitely heavier than the HMC, but the 4k quality is a vast improvement My favorite features so far For the most part, the 200 feels a lot like the HMC150 and the DVX100. The focus peaking something I enjoy on the GH4 is by far my favorite feature. The 43rds sensor takes some getting used to on a video camera, but its worth it I also like the IR feature, although I havent fully implemented it yet. A few complaints The XLR ports are in 2 different places. I find that the one in the back gets in the way of my hand in the hand strap. The iris ring feels loose. I would have preferred more resistance. Switching from auto to manual is a bit of a chore and is tricky to do in a dark theatre during a live performance. I recommend getting to know your DVX200 before running and gunning.

I havent had much time to play around with it but it seems to be built well. Takes a nice picture. The logarithmic shooting works well and gives a lot of latitude. The cards whole a lot of video so if you run and gun you can shoot a lot before you run out of room, unlike some other cameras that shoot a nice rob picture but take up a ton of space. Has builtin and D which is great. A good run and gun camera if youre shooting on the fly plus it doesnt weigh a lot.does have a lot of settings so you may want to know what youre doing if you choose this camera. Get the free Barry Green book online.

Its a great camera. I am only a few shoots in with it, and I may come back and update in the future if that is possible here. Read your Barry Green book, and the manual. Setting up scene files or installing them from download takes some time. Scene 5 out of the box does okay. I work in education and basically needed some cameras that could do everything, liveevent, narrative, etc. I have several DSLRs, and a Blackmagic, and needed something that could do this duty as well. In a word, I am so far, very impressed. Also, needed a camera that recorded in mp4 for our streaming server, and YouTube use for stuff we were not going to edit. The camera really serves well in all roles, working very well as a traditional video camera for live events great zoom control, Varizoom input control for focus and iris, and also seems to play the DSLR role well. The stock lens is very impressive for factory kit very little CA, easily focusable using the screen and fantastic focus peaking function and the big chip gives you depth of a much more expensive dedicated video camera. All in all I am impressed. There are some annoying bits like the auto EVFLCD switch why was this needed, and no your camera is not broken out of the box when the LCD blinks on and off. And a few other items about the way the menus are set up could be better, but for me, the camera seems to fit my needs very well, and do what it promises. And so far, after getting it setup with some downloaded scene files, I am VERY impressed with the quality of the image. I know its apples to oranges, but it destroys the Sony AX100 I have been using to play with 4k.I will update in the future if I can get back here.

We bought this for runngun documentary shooting. Plan was to get two more DVX200s. Probably because it is new there is ZERO support available from Panasonic. In 2 weeks of testing I dont have more than about 1 minute of video that I would consider good enough to deliver. I was hoping this camera would be a more developed and 4K version of the Sony PXWEX series. NO WAY. Using CINELIKE D Gamma and CINELIKE Matrix Im getting scenes that start out ok and within a minute get supersaturated to the point of skin tones looking posterized and as if a chrome effect was applied. NOT GOOD. Highlights get blown out in very undemanding situations. The images have problems that I havent seen in the digital age in years. Seems like 8 stops of dynamic range to me. I havent seen anything near the 12 stops claimed. In dynamic lighting situations, shooting UHD, where it would be difficult to set a single white balance this camera is nowhere near as good my Samsung NX1. Inside during the day, given the slow lens, the DVX200 shoots at ISO 1000 when the Samsung can use ISO320. Big difference in image quality. The internal processor seems woefully underpowered. Show waveform AND normal overlays at the same time NOPE. Use a wired remote and have touchtofocus capability at the same timenope. The list of if you are doing this, then you cant do that, goes on and on. VERY surprising and disappointing after using so many other cameras which dont have those issues. MAYBE the menu structure makes sense in Japanese but it is very very difficult to find needed functions. I own many brands of cameras so normally a new menu structure is no big deal. The main menu headings are SCENE FILE OK SYSTEM MODE OK I guess… USER SW OK I guess.. SW SETUP what AUTO SW what RECORD SETUP OK I guess.. wasnt that covered in SCENE FILE AUDIO SETUP OK OUTPUT SETUP OK DISP SETUP what isnt that OUTPUT SETUP again OTHER FUNCTION MAINTENANCE Really the worst menu hierarchy Ive ever seen. Formatting a card proceeds in a way that the card you are formatting is only shown one time. Not a very safe method. The scroll wheel easily makes navigating the menus 3 or 4 times slower than Canon, Sony or Samsung cameras. The Op Manuals come on a CD labelled Windows only. Fortunately I retrieved the .pdfs on my Mac. Searching the manuals using conventional terms for things usually results in nothing found. You must learn Panasonics unique vocabulary to find simple things like touchtofocus. Im gonna give it one more week of research and testing but not too hopeful so far. Id suggest to a friend dont buy this camera unless you do some test shooting with it first to make sure it can handle your shooting style. Might be OK locked down in manual in a windowless studio. not even positive of that I like the form factor and overall concept. Maybe since I have one of the first ones there is a problem with the camera If anyone has had a good experience PLEASE let me know how you handled dynamic lighting situations happening within one take. And also what settings yielded deliverable results

very much wanted this to be my goto camera for the next two years or so. i do a lot of runandgun documentary type work and this really seemed to check all the boxes for things i needed in a camera… at least on paper. returned it after 1 day, with a big job looming on the horizon next week. first off, its poor in lowlight. i put it side by side with my old ex1 and the sony blew it away by at least 2 or 3 stops. this was wide open on both cameras with gain set to 0. this really surprised me, since the dvx has a much larger sensor, so i would have expected it to perform better. expect to use gain with the dvx in most any indoor lighting situation. up to 9dbs seemed to look fine to my eye… the other thing is the horrendous picture profiles that come loaded onto the camera. wow im sure that there is a way to tweak away at them using the many many layers of color correction menus that are offered, but im no expert at that and dont know where i would even learn that kind of info. im a GH4 owner and was hoping they would have some of the same preset color profiles, but no such luck. very poor yelloworangish tint. i fished around online looking for answers, but all i found were people in other forums complaining about the same thing. returned it today. on the plus side, the macro function seemed to work great

Does what I need a run and gun camera to do Im glad they finally made a 4K camera modeled after the dvx100. Love that you have different recording options available and the variable frame rate feature up to 120fps. You can get some nice slow motion in this camera. The footage also matches my GH4, so I dont have to do any extra color grading to match between the two. Only small critique I have is the lens has a variable f stop, so the iris closes as you shoot more telephoto. I knew that before buying so it wasnt too big of an issue. Make sure get the latest firmware updates as well.

I urgently needed a 4k cam immediately. I had a positive history of purchasing bcast gear at BH so I turned to them for the first time in years. I discussed with the pro gear advisor the choices available to me. I was leaning toward the HVX 1, but it is new on the market, and there were no reviews available. The bh guy steered me toward the much more expensive dvx 200. He warned me that the others were being returned in droves, and that they had serious audio problems. After hearing his horror stories I spent an extra 1200 usd for the 200. Out of the box it had a horrific audio problem, screeching and clicking. It happened twice in the first day of using it on a bcast set. Then I came to realize that the menus are nightmarishly complicated. After shooting ten days with it now I still have not found a way to use the manual iris ring. One of the worst features is the fact that the molded top handle prevents one from reaching over the lens with the left hand to operate the zoom servo. I was really looking forward to an excellent af after reading about the highly upgraded and sophisticated af systems in the 200. Instead of an improvement it is terrible, unusable. Maybe this camera is a lemon. Maybe bh knew that and unloaded it on me. 4 days after I bought my cam for 4200 they dropped the price to 3700. I feel somewhat misled, and therefore swindled. I dont recommend this camera. It is a bitter disappointment. I will call bh and see if they will accept it back. Ill keep you all posted per the results of my consultation with bh, and or Panasonic.

I have owned every Panasonic handheld pro camera from the original AGDVX100 to the HVX250 and the new DVX200 is a definite step up from those cameras. The pros better zoom rocker the older cameras would not zoom smoothly. This camera is quite smooth on zooms. Better picture resolutionespecially shooting in 4K and compressing down to HD in post. Better flip out monitor and focus assist. Cheaper media.Cons The camera only records an 8 bit image to the cards in order to get full resolution you have to record to an external device like an Atomos Shogun using the SDI port. This adds another to the cameras cost. Not everyone will need or want to shoot full 10 bit but I want the best image I can get. Also the 8 bit the camera records is Long Gop Groups of pictures instead of independent single frames. All in all though this is a great camera and Im very happy i upgraded from my HVX250 to the new AGDVX200

The Panasonic AGDVX200 is an exceptional 4K Cinema Video Camera with all the features you could possibly need for great footage. Yes it has beautiful bokeh. Try the macro mode and fall in love with this camera.

So finally I got my hands on this camera at the BH store. I played around with this camera for about 90 minutes during my visit and noticed quite a lot. Picture quality is amazing. The images are crisp and sharp. The rings on the lens move around smoothly. I found the vlog L mode the best to shoot 12 stops of dynamic range especially if you want to spend time color grading. The servo zoom fits nicely towards your fingers when using it. I loved the variable frame rates. 4k at 24fps, UHD at upto 60fps is a nice option. The flip out screen lcd display is amazing and the touch screen is smooth and very responsive. In the settings menu, there are many options in Gamma Mode and Matrix, when it comes to color, tone, and contrast. However, I couldnt test the camera in low light since I was inside the store. The build quality is superior compared to cameras in the same class. The plastic feels solid in your hand, and the camera feels perfectly balanced. SD cards slots make recording at low cost. For the downside, This camera feels heavy. The viewfinder is quite sensitive when using it or when you are a few inches close to it, the lcd flip out screen goes blank. There are endless settings on this camera. I mean endless. If you are not familiar with panasonic camcorders then this one goes well ahead of its past camcorders in the settings area. It could take me a month of excessive playing around to master all of the settings. Overall, this beast has its ups and downs. Its the perfect camera for events, documentary films, and also for indie filmmaking. My review is based on 90 minutes of in store testing and personal thoughts only.

This camera cant get here soon enough. It has everything Ive been waiting for internal 4K, larger sensor, greater zoom range, improved stabilizer, timecode IO, SD cards sorry P2, Im done with you, and better EVF placement. Panasonic finally made a future proof one piece camera. But why the hokey looking red back I dont know who you thought that would appeal to, but Ill have to get used to it. PLEASE offer color options. Its definitely gonna be a target for ribbing on set…

Ive had the camera for nearly two weeks and have to say its a great runngun camera for what I do. This is going to be a great camera for documentary and ENG work. I shoot mostly in manual model for everything, but the auto focus works good for those times you need. Panasonic just released a new firmware update for the camera and it cleans some of the fine noise in the shadows in lower light situations. I shoot only in VLog for the best DR. Internal 8bit 4K looks really good, but I mostly shoot in 10bit 422 mode via HDMI paired with the new Atomos Ninja Assassin 4K recorder. Love the image.

Best bang for the buck of professional features and ease of use. The menu structure takes a while to master. Just read the manual and watch all the online videos.
Ahsan –
This camera is effectively useless when it comes to actual shooting. First the focus is herrendous, Panasonic claims it is parfocal when it is not, the camera frequently looses focus when zooming. The auto focus is just bad, it will focus on random stupid things and then go bezerk and just go to full blur. Unless you plan on stop filming, refocus and then resume filming you should look else where. there are far cheaper alternatives when it comes to recording, also the 43 sensor is misleading as heck because the it crops down to a 1 sensor when shooting UHD 60 fps so your no better than the hundreds of camcorders out there. To prove my point Panasonic support actually told me to get the UX180 as it has better focus, what they should say is that the UX180 doesnt have BROKEN focus like this camera. 1.83 frimware was what I had, returning camera after just 2 weeks of use. Will go with a GH5 wAtomos workflow and a B4 Broadcast Lens true Par Focal

We were using a Canon XF300 as our ENG camera for our small TV station on the west coast. We use a Canon C300 for our beauty shots and we had a Blackmagic Ursa Mini on order for almost a year. After losing yet another batch of shots to the XFs moodiness, I decided it was time to replace it. Saw this camera, specs looked good, so I gave it a chance. To say that I am impressed is an understatement. After using it every day for two weeks all I can say is this camera is fantastic. The output is nothing short of glorious and it is the most forgiving camera Ive ever used, even in full manual mode. Ive cancelled the order for the Ursa and am seriously considering ditching the C300 as well and buying another one of these nearperfect cameras. The lens is incredible and quickly dispelled my fear of the fixed lens stigma. While it cant do super wideangle shots, there are inexpensive lens adapters you can attach that will give you that ability. VLOG is incredible. If you can adapt to adding a few simple steps to your post workflow, youll reap the rewards of 12stops of dynamic range and some of the most incredible footage youll ever shoot on a camera in this price range. VLOG makes the DVX200 a legitimate cinema camera as well. Combined with the true 4K resolution, this camera blows away my C300 with a prime lens. But even just using the stock picture profiles, the images are impressive. If youre on the fence about buying this camera, allow me to push you over to owning one. You wont regret it. That said, theres a few quibbles and suggestions I hope Panasonic might take to heart on a future revision The viewfinder seems to have only two positions all the way up or at its default perpendicular position. I like it somewhere in between the two, yet it keeps wanting to snap back into one of the other positions if I put a little too much pressure on it with my eye. It would be great if there were conventional ratchets in the elbow to keep the VF in place. Playback is achieved with the thumbnail button that is hidden under a little door over the LCD compartment. Besides being such an outoftheway place to have a frequently used function, the door is way too close to the cold shoe. If you have a wide light or audio receiver in the shoe, that door will be difficult to open, let alone push the thumbnail button. They should consider moving this button elsewhere, or at least make the cover removable so you can ditch it if its in the way. A standby or sleep button would be really helpful when you have to wait between shots and want to save battery life, but dont want to go through the whole startup sequence when its time to shoot again. A fullauto switch would also be great for quickly going into idiotproof mode for fastchanging shooting situations but then being able to quickly jump back to your preferred manual settings for the beauty shots. In any case, none of these minor setbacks are dealbreakers. I really love this camera. Youll really love this camera. Go get it.

Although I have purchased many items over the past 20 years from BH, I bought this camera from my dealer in India. However, I thought I would review it here for the benefit of others. Im a professional cameraman with over three decades of imaging experience, and have owned and used many cameras. I was excited about this camera, and bought it after reading many positive reviews. To make sure I was using it right, I read Barry Greens excellent guide thoroughly, and familiarised myself with the camera and all its settings completely. But no matter how meticulously I tweaked the settings, I simply could not achieve picture quality comparable to a CINE D, Standard or Natural setting on my GH4. The color science on the DVX200 sucks big time, and, as another critical reviewer has pointed out, the highlights blow out under even undemanding conditions. As for skin tones, they were simply awful. Vlog was hit or miss. Sometimes the results were sublime, and at other times they were horrendous. I was making a film on a zoo and found that whenever I filmed certain animals, such as Asian elephants and gaur a kind of wild ox, I got huge magenta blotches on large portions of their skin that simply could not be eliminated in post. The weird thing was that these large blotches moved around when the elephant moved. Go figure I showed these shots to a professional cameraman colleague, and he noticed the patches instantly and was horrified. He too tried his hand at correcting this in post, but couldnt. Meanwhile time was ticking away on my project, and my frustration was mounting. So, I put my new DVX200 away and completed the film using two GH4 cameras this was a year and half ago, with wonderful results. After the 40day shoot ended, I started a long dialogue with Panasonic, first with their Delhi office, and then with their engineers in Japan. But to no avail. The engineers in Japan kept writing back that they couldnt see the problem or replicate it. When I invited a nontechnical Panasonic official in my city to view the problem footage on my colorcalibrated NEC monitor and on my 27 inch Imac, he noticed the issue right away. To cut a long story short, I sold the camera at a loss and washed my hands of this potentially good but useless camera, which created so much stress and wasted so much of my time. I would buy it again if Panasonic would correct the color science to match the GH5 and provide 10 bit 422 internally. But until then, buyer beware

Ive been shooting with this camera since early 2016 and find it as useful today as I did when first purchased thats saying something for any piece of technology I primarily produce promotional videos for businesscorporate clients with the occasional broadcast job thrown in. This camera has proven very dependable and rugged, while giving me the quality and feature set my clients require. Highly recommended.

If you want a fixedlens camcorder in a pro formfactor with a large relatively speaking sensor, this is your only option. Even though its going on 7 years old now, it is still an absolute workhorse as long as you can put up with a few quirks. What I loveThis camera compliments my GH5 cameras very well.Great for live events as long as you account for Panasonics famous HDMI latency.SDI out.Leica lens is gorgeous.Surprisingly good lowlight performance with plenty of tweakable settings I expected more noise at high gainPro formfactor with builtin ND, smartlyplaced XLR ports, lots of programmable buttons and controls. Feels great inhand. My main gripesI wish the lens was a touch faster, and a constant aperture. No 10bit internal recording.Weird viewfindertouchscreen limitations cant be on simultaneously waveform not available in the viewfinder other minor weird thingsFirstparty batteries are EXPENSIVE.Youll probably want a shoulder attachment for long handheld sessions.

I still have its earlier SD predecessor and couldnt wait to get hold of this one when I heard it was coming out. Ive had it since late 2015, are still learning new aspects of how to work with her and love the features. Now that Premiere Pro has great proxy files for editing I can finally make full potential of the 4K capabilities and are loving the results. It is a very user friendly camera for my work which is mainly corporate and promotional videos. Panasonic have great online training videos giving you a full run down of all its features which is really useful, as there are so many features to utilise. I really look forward to using this camera for a long time. She just rocks
Steve –
Over all its a pretty good camera. But I have a bit of a gripe. The time code in is preset which means you can only sync your time code by going through the menu and syncinng manually AND only at that moment. After syncing, it is left to drift over the day. This is a pretty annoying inconvenience for those of us who record sound seperately which you should all consider if you are contemplating cameras of this kind. This is a replacement to our pmw200 another prosumer style camera which maintained sync with our tentacle sync all day long. Its not a huge problem but its 2017 and this just adds to an already huge list of things that can go wrong while in production. These are the reasons we pay extra for all of the user interface that has been added to what is essentially a GH4 with a fixed lens.

I love mine. There is a sensor on the eyepiece that when you put your face close to it will switch off the LCD Screen in favor of the eyepiece. If you put your hand close to it… it will switch it off. You can turn this off in the settings I believe. The screens ARE NOT SHORTING OUT.

I originally gave this camera a pretty tough review. Honestly I DO WISH it could shoot the similar image highlight, shadow and skin tone as a Sony PMWEX1 when recording internally. I have not been able to get it to do that. HOWEVER When teamed with the Video Devices PIXE5 this becomes a whole different camera. Be sure to update the PIXE5 to firmware ver 1.05 or later so that you can take advantage of 422 10Bit out. This is where you can finally see the cameras 12 stops of dynamic range and beautiful, sharp, very easily gradable UHD image. With the PIXE5 doing the heavy lifting of recording, the DVX200 is a dream. Touch to focus works flawlessly as does image stabilization. The DVX200 alone cant show peaking in touch to focus mode but the PIXE5 can. The DVX200 cant show waveform while other screen displays are on but the PIXE5 can show waveform while the DVX200 shows histogram, audio levels, white bal, etc, etc, etc. The other thing that is GREAT about the PIXE5 is that it takes advantage of the cheapest media currently available for recording 2.5 SSDs. Thats 15th to 110th the cost for media compared to some UHD cameras. And it is FAST to download those readytoedit ProRes 422 10Bit files via a USB port. No additional reader required. I believe the duo of DVX200 and PIXE5 add up to the best UHD runngun camera out there. The key for me is the combo of 422 10Bit and touch screen to pull focus. Once you experience touch screen to pull focus you will never go back to any other method. Also looking forward to the PIXLR to add Sound Devices quality preamps to my Lectro audio path.

I bought this camera primarily for documentary shooting its footage looks great and the handling feels great. It feelsfunctions like the legendary HVX200, but its footage especially 4K looks like a highend camera which it is. Absolutely worth the investment. Only downside is that, in indoor lowlight, its 1080p looks noticeably worse than 4K.

When this camera gets EBU approval for General Long Form I will buy it instantly. Had the same with the panasonic photocameras. As soon as I traded my analog Olympus cameras and exellent Zuiko lenses for a allinone panasonic Lumix early model with fixed 28360 zoom I dont want anything else. I am affraid this camera sounds too good to be true. esp the codec wich is still not mentioned

Ive been a still photojournalist for nearly 35 years, only recently working on short documentary projects. Ive shot video with the Canon 60D and the Fuji XT2 with fine results. A few weeks ago, I was sent to Mexico on a weeklong mission trip. Knowing I would be working long days in a variety of locations and would be required to shoot onsite interviews, I needed a run and gun camera. There would be little time for switching lenses or syncing sound files in post. I researched the Canon c100 Mark ii, Sony fs5 and the DVX200. I spent 2 weeks before my trip reading reviews like this one, reading Barrys Book and watching YouTube videos. I purchased the DVX from BH used. It arrived as described. After 1 week of testing, I traveled to Mexico and shot a total of 14 hours of footage. I chose to work with Scene file 4, which I flattened a bit, then used FilmConvert Pro to tweak. The images are truly awesome. Very close to DSLR with a bit more wiggle room working in wide apertures. The camera performed flawlessly in the field with really good battery life I had 3, but never needed more than 2 during my 1214 hour days. I was in some pretty tight spots, but the lens was wide enough to get the job done. And the throw on the Leica glass… incredible. If I had to do the gig again, I would use VLog and Atomos with FilmConvert. I had noise issues in low light camp fire that would have been helped with this combo, I believe. The DVX200 was the perfect camera for my documentary project in 90 of the situations I found myself in. Im really excited to do more of this type of work, now that I have a reliable tool to get it done.

Received the Panasonic AG DVX200 camcorder last week as I had one on pre order for over a month. I plan to use the DVX200 for a wide area of recording purposes. This will be my work horse and hopefully my first of three units where I can record long events or documentaries requiring multicam production. After extensive research and other manufacturers model comparasion i made my prucahse decision on the Panasonic AG DVX200 4K camcorder. There are many great camcorders and DSLRs I considered but the DVX200 had all of the critieria and features I was expecting along with performance. Having the 43 sensor was a must and the 12 stops of dynamic range was ecential for me. Originally I thought about cameras that would work with my Canon lenses. After using the camcorder with the 13X fixed lens I believe it is a better balance for what I will be using the camcorder for. The camera is not heavy and I was comfortable during the time I recorded 2 separate events. Though I did not have time to walk through all the setting and features I found the DVX200 easy to navigate and change settings. The touch screen is consistant and responsive when selected. The sound and picture quality options are very abundant, useful and easy to set up. Though I have not had time to puruse all of the features and functions I am amazed at what Panasonic has created in such a small but powerful ENG camera format. I cannot go back to my prosumer camera and the Canon DSLR I have will become my second backup and not used as much. The digital stills captured by the DVX200 is impressive and will change my DSLR photography camera use. Other than the lack of the abilty to change lens I feel I will be able to pack less equipment and do more with less time. Honestly so far I cannot find faults with the DVX200. I havent tried an event in low light yet. The 13Xs zoom lens is good although I would have liked a 20Xs but without loss of picure quality and low light capability. I will be pressing the limits of this camera soon and may return to report my experiences later. So glad I waited before purchasing another brand and model then have regrets. I look forward to discovering all of the 4K performance ability, features and picture quality. Patience was my virtue. The DVX200 will be a popular professional camcorder that videographers will trust and use for years to come. It is what I expected and more.

So far its ok, needs a few updates, like, being able to access the menu of colour setting when REC is on, and Expand Focus seems to be only working in preview. I think the colours see fine, some of the blacks will need some tweaking. httpsyoutu.beAZIk1vvLI8Q

Fantastic camera still learning all the manual settings, realising it gets better and better. For such a large camera it is quite light It is easy to use, especially if you leave it on auto settings, once manual settings are learnt it is also easy to use. Video light is a great addition. Yet to use the dolly but know it mounts well. The tripod that was bundled with the camera does not fit on this camera but I have another tripod that will work. Unless you are specified videography that requires the camera to be still for a long time, it has a great stabiliser, which can be stabilised further when importing to a program such as Premier Pro. Would definitely recommend this product it is quite inexpensive for how high quality the camera is, definitely worth the investment if you plan on shooting great videos.

This is not for the Joe average its an incredible video camera that when shooting fully manual is a remarkable tool. Guys if you have High sensitivity turned on and AGC above 18db you will get noisy video, its a great camera in low light if you know what you are doing. A frame of video off of a DCI 4K image at 16 bit colour are over 54 mbs tiff image.

The ND or Neutral Density filters for the Panasonic DVX200 will burn if you shoot video of the sun in certain conditions. Beware. A fatal flaw for my shooting abilities and needs. The ND filter will burn a hole and render this camera useless in a matter of seconds. Beware. I tested three different new cameras and they all burned. Sorry for the bad review, I was looking forward to using this camera. But the ND filters cannot withstand heat of the sunlight.

I was long overdue to update my starter camera an HMC150. Not being an early adapter I waited a while for the beta testers early buyers to sort things out. I did have to update the firmware on my first purchase and it was both effortless and painless. I had no problems with the menus being quite familiar with the Panasonic feel. Having a GH4 had preexposed me to many of the features. But there were a few new things, some of which I am wrapped around now and a few more I need more practice with. Most interest was the ability to set three focal points and move between them with a button touch. And, have the ability to control the rate of transition from point to point. A built in focus follow. Wow, was not expecting that. Everything I had in place, external monitors, shotgun mics, and verizoom wired remote controls worked fine, they just plugged into different places. There is a bit more control over audio, being able to put either port on either channel. The build in lens cover is a huge plus for me and the touch screen control and monitor quality are a major upgrade and work great. This is a big heavier beast. It does not fit into gimbles without extension kits. Controlling gain via ISO numbers was one of the first custom setting I made, giving me a sense of unity with how I work the GH4. I am hopelessly addicted to servo zoom something missing from all the GH4 glass I have. However, having a 1 stop f stop change in zoom extremes did not make me entirely happy. That said, I have built many slider rigs and when exposure of a face really matters, I slide in and out most of the time. The fine control with a slide is far superior to what I was ever able to do with servo zoom. So I am learning that I get better shots with a slide and no exposure change all of which is a good thing. Picture quality blows away where I came from. I quickly fell in love with the GH4 UHD format and this is a great match. Multicam edits can be done in full UHD on all cameras making it easier to shoot, sync and edit. I dont have to configure an audio recorder, I just go into the DVX200 with the mics for the usable track and shotgun the GH4 for the sync track. I just tried the AJWM50P. Configuration documentation is non existent. After about an hour I got it running. You do need a wireless network in the area. The iOS app gives you a great range of control over the camera, but unlike the GH4 wireless mode, you cannot see through the lens. If you want that, you will need a wireless HDMI transmitter. So, if your going to have to wire a remote monitor, you might as well wire the verizoom controls. Or dig in deeper and buy a wireless HDMI transmitter. It is not likely this will be knocking the GH4 off the wireless apps soon. But wired into that servo zoom it is a great crane solution. And some day soon we will have the Inferno with an HDMI 2.0 port capable of connecting to the DVX200 HDMI 2.0 port and the UHD 60fps 10 bit 422 ability will have a place to go. The price of SSDs keep falling.

Personally I like the familiar layout of the camcorder design and the ease of use. Its heavily menu driven so you will need to spend a good deal of time learning the many options it offers. I know Nikon, Sony and Canon all very well but this is my first Panasonic so there was a bit of a learning curve. Once you get those menus down everything works great. Good flexible Leica lens offers the clarity you need as well as a macro options as well. On top of that is the very reasonable price. A good product and bargain on all counts.

Just recieved our two Panny AGDVX200s and have a few first impressions that I need to get of my chest. Having a slick red and imitation carbon fiber finish is nice but an emphasis should have been placed on durability in the field. The rigors of run and gun will take toll on the compartment doors that cover connection points. Most notably, the door that protects the external power supply and headphone jack is sure to be broken. One would think a rubberized , more flexible cover would be a far better choice. The battery bucket is suspect as well. I dont get the warm and fuzzys when I open and close it. Using a VariZoom VZRockPZFI Rocker Controller, i never felt like I could dial in a nice graduated zoom speed. That might be something I just have to experiment with further. Having been fully warned about the complaints about the LCD viewfinder switching, I did point the eyepiece up to avoid the problem no big deal there. The video in 1080 was what you would expect from any vendor , nothing earth shattering. Just feel like Panasonic might be more interested in form over function.

Just received my DVX200. Opened the box powered it on and flipped out the LCD viewfinder and it immediately began to cut in and out of black when camera was moved. I imagine there is a loose connection somewhere. So much for Panasonics Quality Assurance. Putting it back in the box for another unit. The best I can say at this point is thanks BH for making the return process so easy. I hope to repost a better review of this camera when I get a working unit

This is a great run N gun camera that records beautiful images. Especially when outputting 10bit to my Black Magic Assist 4K.

Like a lot of people eyeballing this camera, I had a DVX100A and B back in the day and shot a TON with those. Mostly corporate stuff but also a bunch of HGTV and some other jobs for broadcast. They were work horses and, if tweaked right, looked awesome. Then I moved on to P2 yuk and eventually DSLRs. While I love the look of the DSLRs, running and gunning broll can be a drag when you have to change lenses all the time. They all want the look but no one wants to give you the time to make it happen. So, when this cameras specs were announced, I thought Id gamble on what I hope is a future proof camera. When I opened the box, I was surprised at how beefy it is next to my 170. At first I thought too beefy, but at just under 7lbs Im getting used to it. It is nicely balanced if using the side palm grip or a pistol grip. The monitors are a huge upgrade from previous Panasonic cameras to the point I feel comfortable relying on them for color balance and focus. The zoom range is more that I expected and the image quality is great. Shooting a lot of handheld, I was blown away by the image stabilizer, even at the end of the lens. Really nice The 4K Vlog footage I shot got great reviews from a few editors. The stock picture profiles look pretty good too. There are a ton of ways to customize the stock profiles. Way more control over the image than past rigs, to the point of needing an engineer to know what all the profile settings do. One thing I did find that never was mentioned anywhere previously, is the rolling shutter. Yikes If thats the worst thing about the camera, I can work around it. All in all, at this price point, it is cranking out some beautiful images, 4K or otherwise. Everyone has been wondering about achieving the shallow depth of field were all used to. Well, Ive had some luck, but it involves shooting wide open at the long end of the lens and, given enough light, adding some ND. Using Macro mode is really where you get the shallowest depth of field, but is only good for table top or ECU broll. Does nothing for a talking head. Heads up, you can not use your old Panasonic batteries This camera wont be for everyone, but like the DVX line prior, it will find its niche.

Very hard to shoot with outside in the sun. The auto switcher for the monitors is a thumbs down. With that said. Camera is easy to use, picture looks great and interface is easy as well I have used it on a mix of creative, corporate and commercial shoots

Camera with cinematic quality that will satisfy most needs Twelve stops dynamic range can guarantee image quality The only downside is the camera lens, the Panasonic company policy is nonremovable lens aperture is low Vdhanh Some images are not an issue in a strangely noise that is not easily visible but sharp images

I have seen all the opinions about the camera in youtube and NAB, and I would like to buy one, but I am not convinced completely for the red color, it doesnt looks very professional hopefully Panasonic present more options of colors, like gray or black, not red please.

long time community volunteer shooter editor. Local school productions, live concerts events. Like driving a Lexus after using my hmc 40p for yearsgreatly improved low light picture quality. Works smoothly zoom a little touchy, but hopefully I will adapt has a broadcast quality clarity to picture so farconcert footage, medium lighting. Had trouble getting dual codec to work, but hope to figure it out. Shot with slight in camera processing not vlog,Preset white balance, manual focus auto iris. Footage came out wonderful, ready to edit with no need for post color work. In this price range Im very happy. Have used cannon 70d in past find this so much easier to use the qualitys a giant step up.Of course so is price, but run gun ability is worlds above dslr. I have waited for a camcorder with these features price w4k for quite a while so far Im very pleased. Also heads up to BH for great service price.

For my whole life, I purchased Sony video camera. AGDVX200 is my Panasonics product. I have used it on two occasions and am happy with its performance. I have lot to experiment with it but so far I have no complaints. Good camera and recommend to purchase it.Adorama excellent service.

Great camera for field work and running and gunning. Its simple enough if you just want to get up and shooting but has good advanced capibities for higher quality work. Remember, like and camera, lighting is everything.

Everything looks great, but not the red color. It is a beautiful camera, the texture of the materials are fantastic, all the specifications are perfect, that is why I dont understand the red color, it does not looks very professional. My opinion is all black or the combination the black with dark gray

I purchased this camera specifically for documentary footage where much of the action of spontaneous. While the automatic features are very accurate, preplanning and use of the wide range of variable setting will result in the style and mood you demand. This is not a camera for amateurs, but it designed for professionals who understand the advantages of variable focal length, iris, shutter speed, white balance, gain, and an incredible number of technical settings available in camera costing much more. The 43 sensor provides excellent coverage for very low noise in low light situation if you know what you are doing Yes, there is a fully automatic setting that works very well, but you will want to take time with the user manual and practice until you understand the difference between this camera and those suited more for the amateur. If you are in a runandgun situation, you can still rely on the fully automatic selection just use caution in changes in white balance and focus. The only disadvantage, if you can call it that, is the learning curve necessary to maximize the cameras capabilities. Of course, that would be true for any professional 4K camera. I also recommend use a wide angle lens adaptor which will significantly enlarge the scope of the picture. The one caveat … use the cameras macro setting. It is best to establish your focus and depth of field without zooming. Bottom line, if you are a professional and looking for a fantastic 4K camera for the money, Panasonic seems to have engineered an excellent tool for the filmmaker.

Nice zoom. Great features. I am not completely satisfied with the lowlight capabilities. It seems more grainy even then my Panasonic GH4. I wish it had the GH4s preset looks too instead of the ones that come with it. Also heavier than my AGAC160 so not the best for hand holding for long periods.

I purchased this camera shortly after release and wanted to give it some time and usage prior to writing a review. Originally, I was also considering the JVC GYLS300 and Sony a7Sii. As of April 2016, there is still nothing which comes close to the DVX200 in terms of on board features for a run and gun camera in this price range. If youre concerned with size, the Sony a7Sii might be a good competitor if you only record for short durations or need extreme low light. Keeping in mind that even in perfect conditions, 30 minutes or so is the cap out. For anyone claiming their LCD is shorting out, its not. When you put your eye or your shirt, or any other object which blocks light against the eyecup, the light sensor turns off the LCD. You can disable this functionality in settings, or simply point the eyecup upward while its not in use. Another important thing to note, its crucial that you upgrade the firmware prior to production use, as many significant improvements have been made since release, including a significant reduction in video noise, which was already low to begin with. Overall, a combination of a great sensor, lens and on board capabilities make the DVX200 an easy choice for professional 4K video.

Weve had the DVX200 for a week now and little by little I am learning the insandouts. We predominantly shoot corporate videos for YouTube howto, product overview, etc. mostly using Canons 5D MKIII and XA10. The XA10 was a good starter camera but was a pain to use. With the majority of the controls buried in touchscreen menus we often found ourselves using the auto setting for most of or runandgun broll. This, along with the benefits of shooting UHD footage, was the main reason for our decision to upgrade to the Panasonic AGDVX200.My first impression of the image quality out of the box was not good. The default scene files from Panasonic are pretty horrid looking Firmware update 1.40 and these are the improved versions from the original release. If you are like me and not as technically hip as the superusers who can tweak the myriad of settings this camera has, then I suggest you download Barry Greens scene files you will find them much more pleasing to the eye httpwww.dvxuser.comV6showthread.php344924MajorcolorupgradecomingforDVX200page2It seems fairly easy to blowout the highlights on this camera so be sure to use Zebra, Histogram or Waveform monitor to make sure youre exposed correctly. I do like the programmable user buttons as well as the easy access to common controls Gain, ND Filters, Focus Assist, WB, etc… The image the camera produces is fantastic. Image stabilization is also pretty good, especially in FHD format where you get 5axis hybrid OIS.If you do not have a lot of experience using a professional camcorder then expect a bit of a learning curve. However, with some patience and a bit of selfhelp, you can expect to get your moneys worth. To help you get off on the right foot, Barry Green has written a fantastic guide for the DVX200 that you can download for free herehttpshop.panasonic.comaboutuslatestnewspressreleases12102015barrygreenguide.html

I have had the DVX200 for a few months now and I love it. I shoot a lot of reality travel shows, and it works very well. It replaces a Canon 5D Mark II as my main camera. Though I really like the death of field the 5D offers, the DVX200 does a pretty fine job also. It is a much better camera for the type of work I am presently doing. When a tripod I use it with a VariZoom VZROCKPZFI for zoom, focus, and iris control from handle on the tripod. I also pair it up with a vmount backplate and IndiPro Batteries. I have used the panasonic battery that came with it, which has pretty good life, but I prefer the longer life of the vmlunt batteries.I am impressed with the image quality. I was a little worried about its low light performance, but so far so good. I have been pleased with the low light images as well. This camera has so many modes I have not used them all yet. I cannot review the Vlog yet, but the HD, UHD, and 4k modes at 24p and 60 fps has worked very well. The build quality is very good. I really like the form factor, and I kinda dig the red color on the back.If there was any negative aspects to this camera, it MIGHT be the viewfindermonitor shutoff basic setting. I figured out quickly how to work with it, so its not a big deal for me. But I have read many reviews about the camera before my purchase, and some people take issue with it. It is such a minor thing, its almost not worth mentioning.I would defiantly recommend this camera based on my personal experience.

I bought this unit believing it would be great for a documentry project. Out of the box this camera was very difficult to get a clean picture with accurate colors. After a few days I had to return due to the fact I dont have time to become an expert on this camera in order to operate it. I believe the scene files need some work. I was able top get a better picture after downloading a few scene files from a Panasonic expert…Berry sorry I cant remember the name Decided to return and save more money for a Sony Fs7. I did not see many advantages over my GH4.

I have owned this camera for 3 weeks or so. My first shoot was an event for a school Choir. First I have to admit the images were outstanding. The ability to use scene files already built assisted in getting my shot were I needed. The XLR mic inputs locations and the on screen menus made it easy to get my audio levels. At first, learning to use the camera was a bit overwhelming, but I suggest the Barry Green videos and book.

the camera is not bad, but problems with sd cards, an auto focus points of an auto focus are too close located, often misses when it is more than 1 person, on the average and long end, the autobalance bad, is more 2124db not working, an expozamer bad. pluses the good picture, in case of good lighting. well blurs a background.

Just got this camera… WOW…. Sent in for the rebate and already got the dual charger and extra high cap battery… Will be putting this to work for runngun weddings and other video work…

This is an excellent tool for shooting most video. Incredibly sharp lens married together with a sensor that has the right amount of Bokeh. It makes sense for the individual that is shooting at events and doesnt want a crazy amount of Bokeh so things that should remaining in focus actually do so. Also put that together with a focusing system that works well and is dependable. Intriguing features such as integrated transitional focus and the ability to shoot for 4K and HD simultaneously onto two separate SDXC cards. The ability to store several customized Scene modes on my SD card as well. What else can I say this camera has everything you could possibly want in a video camera. Lots of video codecs, variable frame rates so you can over crank and under crank the video. Basically this beast has everything. But what I really love is that its heavier than a DSLR so when I stick this on a steadicam rig I have the weight I need to give really smooth video heavier is better for video. Theres no limitation for the recording time as it should be with a video camera. Also a little bit of noise isnt bad because this noise is filmic most of the noise is in the luminosity not the chromatic portion allowing me to create gritty video. This camera allows me to be creative unlike other cameras where I feel I am locked into a certain look for the video. I really like scene mode 6 because it allows me to have the cinematic feel but a dynamic range and flatness that I can push later in post or I can shoot VLog and bake the colour in DaVinci Resolve and go nuts.

The camera was as advertised. Like the image sensor which gives shallow depth of field. The form factor is such that it allows easy access to controls and yet is not overly big for ease of use in hand held situations. All controls are laid out logically. The touchscreen on the LCD is a nice touch. Overall this is a good camera at a reasonable price.
