I use this as my moderately wideangle lens for my Panasonic Lumix GH3 and GX7 cameras. It essentially replaces the Panasonic 14mmf2.5 pancake lens, though I still use the 14mm on my GF6 pocket camera yes, it will fit in my shorts cargo pockets. The 15mm lens is long enough that its not suitable for droppping a small camera in your pocket, but it has both a faster aperture and better image quality than the 14mm, making it a preferable lens for the larger camera bodies. My usual assessment process of a lens image quality can be characterized as personal, subjective, and informal. With that in mind, I think this lens has superior image quality. The lens aperture control ring is a pleasant addition. While I havent fully explored its uses, at least in Apertutre Priority mode its use frees the thumb control to be used exclusively for Exposure Compensation. And, if youre not interested in using the aperture control ring on the lens, you can just leave it in the A setting and use the lens as you would any other. I very much appreciate Panasonics commitment to maintaining the 46mm front diameter in its shorter fixedlength lenses. Having most of my lenses use the same size filters is economical for me. The lens cap, while spring loaded, puts the finger grips around the edge. I know Panasonic has made millions of lens caps that place the finger grips near the center of the cap. In my opinion the center placement is a much more usable location. The bayonet lens hood and associated second cap makes the lens much more difficult to manage in the lens bag. I think it makes sense to keep the lens, front and rear caps, and hood in one place in the bag. As a result Im using a third party hood and older cover with this lens. In general, Im impressed with this lens, and along with the 25mmf1.4, it will be one of my primarily used lenses.

We generally pay too much for what really pleases us, but this jewel made a big impression on me. It feels, smells, and runs as the F1 of lenses. I compared with the Lumix DCGX9 for my sketch pad camera and it gives so much joy that some of the photos have become my favorites, especially because I use it in manual mode but just in case for street photography to keep it in my coat pocketthe auto focus is very handy. I often use ND filters and it is very difficult to use the original lens shade so I placed the filter on the Artisan 46 vented hood and now it is a perfect match.

The lens is very sharp and the autofocus is really fast, faster than the Olympus 17 f1.8 which was already relly fast, probably due to the fact that this lens supports the DfD autofocus on my Panasonic GX80GX85. I also like for what I typically photograph travel, cities, … that it is somewhat wider than the 17. Size is the same as my Olympus 17 f1.8. So the 15 now replaces my 17 as standard walkaround prime for lowlight. Fits also well into my collection PL 15 f1.7, P 25 f1.7, Sigma 60 f2.8.

I bought the Panasonic Lumix G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f1.7 for use with my Olympus OMD camera bodies. I previously owned and used the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital 17mm f1.8, but now only own the Panasonic 15mm. I replaced the Olympus 17mm because it had noticeably lower resolution than the 12, 25, 45, and 75mm Olympus prime lenses. I am very satisfied with this 15mm Panasonic prime. It has comparable resolution to the best Olympus prime lenses and works well with the OMD bodies focuses quickly and accurately. The Panasonic build quality is excellent too. The field of view is noticeably wider with the 15mm, even though numerically the difference is small 2mm. The only unique thing I discovered was that I cannot store the hood reversed on the lens, so I just store the hood attached to it. I would highly recommend this lens to Olympus camera users.

I need a fast semiwide for dark event work. Ive tried three versions of the Oly 17 1.8, and all have been pretty bad wide open and not that great stopped down. 20mm is not wide enough, I dont want the cost or weight of the 17 1.2, and the 12mm is too wide. At 1.8 this 15 is excellent in the center, and very good toward the edges. Stopping down to 2.8 sharpens things up nicely.

This lens has a very good imaging performance for which you pay more than twice for fullframe lenses.

Buying my first lens for my first camera made me constantly hesitant on which lens to buy first especially with money being a factor. I got the recommendation to get the 15mm, and I went with it. Since then, it has been the best decision ever. The pictures Ive taken thus far have come out incredible. Its a great overall all purpose lens.

i tried a lot of m43 lens and for me this is the best one small, good built, sharp, color, contrast. theres a little bit of Leica in the image it produce. the only thing i miss is the aperture ring that i cant use on my Oly body.

I have owned this lens for a year or two. In the absence of direct sunlight it performs very well, A nice balance of center to edge sharpness. The shadows come out with good resolution. But flare is severe where the least bit of sunlight enters the optic directly, particularly low angle rays ruin the image. With that characteristic I have played around with various lens shades. They help a bit, but Panasonics Nano coatings fall far short of the Leica reputation. But in all fairness I have an expensive 35mm wide angle Zeiss lens from the the 1970s that, despite the T coating, that also flairs under similar conditions. Also, some have said this Leica has a metal barrel, it doesnt, it is plastic with metallic paint. The mount is metal and the threading for the filters on the front appear to be metal. Aside from these criticisms the lens performs well, images are crisp from center to edge and colors are rich. However, my Panasonic 1232mm provides a fine 15mm image with similar qualities but with far less flair and my 19mm Sigma shows almost no flair and good color values. Does the Leica image of this lens justify the price, no, but I own and I will use it just like all my lenses I have bought over the last 60 years or so.

Perfect lens when I am walking around. Love my Leica cameras, but this lens on the DCG9 is just an enjoyable experience. Never get into the technical side of things, I just enjoy shooting photos.

I would actually give it 4 12 stars great lens tack sharp light weight etc etc but… the lens hood is driving me crazy. It has got to be one of the worst as it does not lock on firmly removing the lens i often accidentally unscrew the lens hood. The lens hood plain and simple is to loose and has seemingly gotten worse over time. Poor design is the culprit had it been threaded like my voightlander hood this would not be an issue but the one turn lock sucks.

This lens is a delight to use. I find the aperture ring a useful facility. Image sharpness, good colour rendition and fine contrast make the lens a pleasure to own, as it is consistently good at making the best of any image. It would have been an advantage if the lens hood was reversible for compact storage, but that is a small point.

This is used to compliment the 12 to 35 Panasonic lens, mainly for landscape and architecture. Lightweight and excellent construction. I would like this in 15mm 1.2, but that is probably wishful thinking. Very happy with the lens.

I got this lens out of curiousity, with low expectations due to the somewhat odd focal length same essential FOC as an iPhone lens, but curious about the Leica cache and rendering. Result It stayed glued to my GM1 for the next six months, and is still my primary walkaround lens. I love the files that result from this lens on the GM1. I primary use this for city scape, and Im very satisfied with the DOF, corners, and rendering. I generally use this at f4.0 during the day, f2.8 at dusk, and f1.7f2.0 after sunset. This lens is smooth to operate. I love the Aperture ring. Manual focus with the GM1s focus peaking is smooth and useful. The only thing I would change about this lens, if I could, would be to combine the fantastic distance scale of the Olympus 171.8 with the wonderful Aperture ring of this lens, while retaining its incredible rendering.

Got this as a small, fast, wide lens for the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. Optically, the lens is very nice. Clean, but not clinical. It works great and becomes about a 40mm equivalent on the BMPCC. Downside on the BMPCC is that the manual aperture ring doesnt work with the camera, but that can be adjusted through the camera itself. If youre looking for a compact, lightweight lens that still has character and is reasonably fast for smaller sensors, this is a good go to.

I like very much this lens one of my favourite on Pana bodies. The colors, rendering and details are really good despite the fact that I use a 12MP camera. The nicest thing is the manual ring for the aprture. It reminds me the old times. The panan body is 100 compatible. If you shoot in A mode the camera will detect the aperture and will fix the time for the shutter. Instead if you put the ring on the lens in auto mode you can set the speed of the shutter form the camera and the lens will adjust the aperture. There is also a small button on the lens to switch from auto focus to maual focus. In case of manual focus you use a second ring on the lens which works ok and it is very smooth.

Primary lens on my Lumix GM1. This is the sweetest minicamera package. It is tiny but with big capabilities. The manual aperture and focus on this lens make for a rewarding shooting experience. No frustrations in handling. I use the lens hood most of the time.

The Panasonic Leica DG Summilux 15mm f1.7 is sharp across the frame even wide open, has great color and contrast with creamy background blur. The close focusing ability provides surprisingly good opportunities for subject isolation. Though the specifications and test results for this lens are solid they dont tell the whole story of why this is such a stellar lens. The Leica branded lenses including the PL 42.5 f1.2, the PL 25mm f1.4 and the PL 15mm f1.7 do have unique color and blur characteristics. The MFT system has some great wide primes and zooms but the 15mm 1.7 has quickly become my favorite lens in this range.

I like this lens better than the 25mm PannyLeica that Ive had for awhile, and not just because of the focal length. The focus ring is no longer rubberized which picks up a lot of dust and grime. But I also love the focal length This lens is very sharp across the range, a great size for a 43s lens, and it doesnt break the bank. For the price is outshines just about every other prime lens Ive owned or researched. Glad I waited for it …. The only odd thing is the hood. You have to remove the decorative ring in order to attach the hood, which uses a rubber lens cap type thing. So there are actually two lens caps that come with the lens, but you use them one at at time. I leave the hood on all the time so its no big deal but it is different. The hood works fine with the BW filter I use.

Ive recently got this lens as a companion to my 25mm f1.4 for when I need a wider angle shot. For that purpose it works fantastic but what really sold me is it build quality. The 15mm puts to shame my 25mm with its all metal body, fstop ring, and metal hood. I wish every lens was built like the 15mm. After getting to hold it at BH the Olympus 45mm f1.8 felt like a cheap toy by comparison. Even the Olympus 75mm f1.8 felt a bit lacking after using the 15mm. Im not saying either of those lenses are bad when it comes to optics only the 15mm really opened my eyes to whats possible with build quality. Speaking of optics the lens performs very well giving me sharp images even with the aperture wide open. If you have a Panasonic body and are looking for a wide prime do yourself a favor and pick this one up.

This 30 mm 35 mm equivilentis sharp and wide enough to be used indoors in a lowlight setting. This is the lens to mount for a party…you can get a wider view and still achieve a separation of subject from background by the proper use of the aperture ring. The aperture ring is very convenient and fully functional on Panasonic cameras. The lens can to be used on other Micro Four Thirds bodies, but the aperture will need to be set through the camera menu system on other than Panasonic bodies. This is a great addition to the GM1, but also great on the other Panasonic bodies.

The main reason for this purchase is to find an everyday fast prime lens that fits my GM1 without any bulkiness. I must admit that I was not impressed with this lens at first I was spoiled by its big brother the NOCTICRON F1.2 so if you are looking for the WOW factor then this lens is not it. Sharpnesswise it is just a tiny bit better than GM1s kit lens but not by much, only more visible toward the edges. Due to the m43 format, bokeh is hard to come by, you have to work and look hard to find them even at F1.7. The color is great, warmer than the GM1 kit lens. What I do love about this lens is its ability to gather light so the camera can stays in the safe low ISO ranges and picture remains sharp even at F1.7. I do notice chromatic issues in the RAW file with shiny reflective metal objects please see my sample photo but nonexistent in the same JPG file, more tests are needed. Overall this is a good lens but if you only shoot RAW then you might want to test it first.

It took me a while to appreciate this lens. Its not the fastest or the widest. Its a tween focal length that doesnt declare itself to be more like a 28 or 35 full frame equivalent. It has its own personality and its sharp very sharp, even wide open. If you have more than a passing interest in MFT and like to work with prime lenses, consider this lens. If you dont, youre missing something special.

Its the only lens of its length and aperture…so if you need it, you need it. With that being said, focus speed is slower than the Lumix 35100 2.8…its not ridiculously slow, but I hope it gives a reference. Pretty sharp…nothing that cant be tweaked in post. But know that I mainly shoot for the web and smaller prints 10×12 or smaller. What really disappointed me was the corner light fall off and corner distortion, wide open. A prime at this cost Come on Panasonic. I didnt even notice this as much on my 20mm 1.7. Color and contrast…pretty good Better than my 20mm 1.7, not as good as my 35100. Much love folks

There are plenty of technical reviews of this lens at this point. Ill just say that Im currently using it on the new Oly PenF, I like it. Its sharp enough, it renders in way that is pleasing to me, and the inbetween focal length is actually really nice if you like a wide view though you have to be conscious of the fact that youre past that 35mm FF sweet spot when it comes to distortion.

Ive studied this lens from a far for a long time. Finally I rented it and spent some time with it. Ive struggled to find a 35mm equivalent I felt strong about. You can tell Its tough to develop a wide lens for a smaller sensor. Ive read in the comments about its not sharp, that it has vignetting. After Importing what I shot from this lense into Lightroom I can say..There isnt a detail that this lens misses. Its not Olympus 45 sharp, more like Panasonic Leica 25 mm. This lens definitely stands up to the creamy sharpness you get out of the 25mm. I never really noticed the vignetting, nor was it an issue. Images are clean, crisp, vibrant. This will defiantly be my next lens. Even though Its slightly wider than I would like, Ive been very happy with this lens.

I love to shoot fast lenses without flash and I had a wedding coming up. I wanted a fast medium wide angle to complement my Nikon 321.2 since Nikon 1 does not have any wide angle that is fast. So why not adding this 151.7 to go with my GX7 to pair with the Nikon V2 with the 321.2. Well, I was not disappointed and captured some great pictures that would rival the professional at the wedding. The 151.7 is fast, sharp, and renders beautifully. I love it enough to get the 251.4 to go in between this 151.7 and the Nikon 32.2. I would love having the 42.51.4 but that lens is just too pricey and I am already happy with the 321.2.

I had the Oly 17 1.8 which was a fine lens but as I tend to shoot wide, it was often just not wide enough. The 15 has a solid build and edge to edge sharpness stopped down and nearly as good wide open. Heres something to consider I compared an identical scene shot with the PL15 alongside the P1232 both at f4 which is as wide as the 1232 gets at that FL and the differences were slight oh maybe a touch more contrast with the PL15, and a hair better in the corners, but really pretty close. But the advantage of going to f1.7 cant be overlooked, particularly indoors when you are trying to keep the ISO from climbing. I just like primes and I like the build so for me the cost was worth it.

I compared this lens to my Lumix 20 mm F1.7 Mark 1 bought way back in 2010 on my Lumix G9. This lens is sharp cornertocorner when wide open, the Lumix 20 mm isnt. The difference was astonishing to me given the wider field of view of the 15.And the 15 really shines when using it for 40 MP high res mode, even wide open. Its so good wide open I cant be bothered with any more testing stopped down. Just the tiniest amount of spherochromatism see Ken Rockwell that Im sure goes away at higher Fs.My problem now is this. I compared it to the Lumix 1232 mm F3.55.6 compact zoom that came with my GM5, and I gotta say that when I set the zoom at 15 mm F3.8 its quite hard to tell the difference between this marvelous little zoom lens and the 15 at F1.7.So I gotta ask myself do I really need the extra two stops and better bokeh for 600 That compact zoom is a terrific go anywhere do anything sort of lens, it does have more utility. I wish theyd bring back the GM5 with a finger grip, 20 MP sensor and better viewfinder. The GM5 exemplified one of the best selling points of Micro 43rds over full frame compactness. I love the G9 but the GM5 is still the one I carry more often. But Im getting off topic.I think if you love primes, youll love this 15 mm gem.

This is a fantastic lens. Its my go to when I just want one lens to walk around with and it definitely has some of that Leica magic to it.

I purchased this lens actually to use in model photography in order to provide more background area than what I was normally getting with my 50mm. Used this lens extensively for the first time a few days ago. Very pleased with the images. I can easily foresee this lens being well used.

It is tiny, well built, super sharpeven wide open, great colors…what else could you want.I had the DJI branded version of this previously same lens, just branded with DJI name and packaged with zenmuse x5 drone camera and used that for several years with my Olympus em5 mark ii. Loved that lens. However, the DJI version doesnt autofocus properly with cameras like the Olympus em1 mark ii and em5 Mark III that have phase detect autofocus when shooting in caf so I had to sell that lens and purchase the Panasonic version. Love it. Focuses insanely fast and precise on my new em5 Mark III and makes lovely images.Highly recommend.

Panasonics marriage of Lumix lenses with Leica lens magic has yielded some fantastic lenses. I have several. Love them This one, though not used often, delivers very high quality. Clear, sharp, minimal distortion, not too contrasty. I shoot video and really strive for that more cinematic look as opposed to that video look. The LumixLeica lenses really help in that regard.

Got this to supplement the Olympus 17mm f1.8 for my Pen f. The images from this lens seem more defined than the 17mm, which seem smoother. Also, the extra image coverage is useful when using the cameras built in perspective adjustments which usesreduces captured image area. CA isnt as well contained software and the aperture dial doesnt function, but these tradeoffs are worth it. The images are very nice. Its interesting how Panasonic and Olympus realize images differently. Both good but different characteristics.

High build and optical quality in a small form makes this a very desirable lens. Love the manual aperture ring and the feel of manual focus when required. A great lens

Nice lens to film with on a Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera. It has nice focus ring. It does not have manual aperture controll, but works to change aperature in camera. Pros Nice colours and sharpness. Small and light Nice manual focus F1.7 Cons Slight barrel distortion, but not noticable when filming Lacks manual aperature control it has but only works on Panasonic cameras and it has hard stops This lens will be used a lot.

This lens is has extremely fast AF on my panasonic G7. Couple with Depth of Defocus, this special AF will only work on specific Panasonic Bodies. However, I hear its also fast on Olympus cameras. The aperture is wide enough to get some bokeh separation for half body shots. However, do not expect miracles since this is only a 15mm f1.7 on a four thirds sensor. Color and image rendition is fantastic. Wide open this is sharp, though it gets much sharper when stopped down peaking at f4. Having the aperture on the front end of the lens is a nice touch which means I can customize my wheels to something else. There is also a convenient manual focus switch that overrides the cameras focus settings. The manual focus ring is buttery smooth and makes manual focus during video a breeze. This is certainly a top 43 wide angle prime. If its in your budget, than I would recommend it, otherwise go for the cheaper 20mm 1.7 which is considerably tighter. Build quality is top notch. Its light, small, and delivers excellent overall image rendition.

Great lens for the GM5. Nice and compact, great optics, sharp, and perfect for scenicstreet photography. Now I can carry a tiny camera that takes great pictures and with an aperture of F1.7 can create a shallow depth of field.

This is a nice lens to have in the kit when you need wideish shots indoors. The fast f1.7 really helps when the lighting is dim. To get bokeh you need to be fairly close to the subject, but the results are nice. Metal construction give the product a quality feel as well.

I bought this because its the perfect match for my Lumix GM5. Small, light, yet top quality. And this has since been my gotocombination for allround photography. Build quality as well as optical is top notch, made in Japan. In direct sun, it shows some flare, that is the only weak point of this lens.

Sharpness is good, contrast is excellent, bokeh is good, CA is good, autofocus is excellent, build quality and ergonomics are excellent. This is one sexy lensThe Panasonic 15mm f1.7 is not the sharpest lens I own the winner is the Olympus 75mm f1.8, but its the best prime in this semiwide focal length. Optically it beats the 14mm f2.5 and the Olympus 17mm f1.8. The main difference I see are better corner sharpness and better contrast. The build quality is a lot better also. All in all a decent performer. You get what you pay for.

This is a very nice lens. I perfer it my be 25mm in terms of FOV. Very compact and the aperature ring is great is I mainly shoot in aperature priority. The close focus is excellent too. I beilieve the image quality is better than my 714mm at 14mm. Highly recommended if you want a compact lens at this focal length. AF speed is great too.

I used this lens on a BMD Pocket Cinema Camera. Its a sharp lens, but it has a really wide depth of field even when at f1.7.
